“Red Robin, sound off. Status?”
“All good here, Oracle. Everything okay?”
It’s been a slow night, never a good sign. Pent up energy itches under his skin and he stretches when he stands, preparing for whatever Oracle is going to throw his way. It’s going to be something, he can tell.
“Good.” Relief briefly colours her voice answers, before she becomes serious again, keys clacking away in the background. “There’s been a report from Agent A. It appears that one Timothy Drake has been kidnapped and is being ransomed for five million dollars and a helicopter. I’m tracing the call now.”
“A helicopter, too? Kidnappers these days, used to be they just wanted their money and that would be the end of it… a fucking helicopter, wow.” Red Hood scoffs, and Red Robin can’t help but join in the laughter over the comms.
“Doesn’t exactly sound like these are the brightest tools in the shed now, does it, Hood? Wonder what poor schmuck they’ve got instead.” Nightwing says, slightly out of breath.
The smile slips off Red Robin’s face and clammy, cold dread shivers down his spine. A stone settles in his stomach. He wets his lips and clears his throat. “Oracle, can you pull up the CCTV on my apartment near WE? Any closer to tracing the call?”
“Still on the trace, they’re using a jammer. Agent A is cooperating so they should phone back soon, which will help.” she reports, falling into silence as he finds the video feed.
“You know who it is?”
“I hope not.”
It’s tense, he taps his feet on the rooftop, fingers tightening over his grapple as he fights the urge to fly off the roof and check for himself. It better not be him. Please, dear God, don’t let it not be him.
“What are you thinking, Red Robin?” Batman growls through the comms. Red Robin can hear the wind under his words, whipping fast as he no doubt makes his way over to his position.
“I had a, uh, a friend coming over tonight. From behind, he… he could be mistaken for Tim Drake.”
The jokes fall silent, the comms growing serious as they pick up on his tone.
“Well, fuck.”
“Eloquent as always, Hood.”
“Shut up, bat-brat.”
“You were right, Red Robin, it looks like it was your… friend they caught, instead. About two hours before the call came in. I’m following their van now, I should have the destination soon. In the meantime, it looks like they’re heading towards the docks.”
Red Robin throws himself off the building, shooting his grapple as low as he dares to get the fastest swing he can.
They have Danny.
Worry gnaws at his gut even as gravity pulls it into his throat with another swing.
Danny is… And Red Robin means this in the nicest way possible, but Danny is fragile. They haven’t talked about it, but RR knows that Danny has health problems. Something plaguing him since he was young, that’s landed him in the hospital more than once. A weak heart, far too slow to be normal, possibly chronic fatigue—he’s always so tired, falling asleep anywhere he can.
Sometimes, he doesn’t even need to put his head down. Once, when they had gone to the corner store to get some popcorn to enjoy their movie (which Danny had explicitly and repeatedly promised he wouldn’t snore through this time), Danny had rested his head on Tim’s shoulder while they were waiting and he’d just… gone. On his feet, asleep, just like that.
He’d laughed, when Tim woke him up. Apologised. Said Tim made him feel safe enough to fall asleep just about anywhere and—
Red Robin grits his teeth and corrects his course as Oracle updates them with more precise coordinates.
Tim had carried him home that night, piggy-back for four blocks, but by the end of it, he wasn’t tired at all. And that’s another thing, Danny’s just so light. It’s concerning.
They never did watch that movie, but it’s a night that Tim can’t help remembering fondly all the same. They’d ended up rewatching some old sitcom that Danny’s seen countless times but Tim’s never really bothered with, Danny drifting off to sleep again and Tim eventually following him, because… sleep is easy with Danny.
It’s the same for him, he thinks. He can’t explain it, but he feels safe enough to sleep with Danny, too.
He needs to be alright.
“So… Is this friend just a friend? Or a friend friend?”
“A friend, Nightwing. Now hurry up.”
He’s not in the mood to play these games, not now. There’s a reason why none of them know about Danny, and this is one of them. His family, as much as he loves them, are just too damn nosey for their own good.
“You know that doesn’t answer my question at all.”
“Then why don’t you ask something intelligible, rather than continue with your childish antics?” Robin snarks, and for once, Red Robin has to agree with him. Or, rather, he’s grateful for the distraction that it gives him.
Tim has secrets. He’s sure that Danny does, too, and so far—aside from the standard background check he always runs on new friends and friend friends alike—he’s done very well to respect them. He just can’t say that his family would do the same.
They can be overwhelming, to say the least, and Tim has tried his best to protect Danny from that.
Only to fail to protect him in every other way that it counts.
“How long have you guys been ‘friends’?”
“Nightwing, save it, please.”
“What’s his name?”
He ignores him.
Red Robin lands on the building first, thank goodness. He wastes no time in finding a skylight that can be pried open fairly quietly, slipping inside without a second thought.
“Wait for backup, Red Robin, that is an order!” Batman says, when he lets them know he’s in.
“Negative, Batman. I’m getting him back.”
“Red Robin!”
He weaves silently through the desks on the second floor of the warehouse, always moving, always keeping a trained eye on the shadows around him.
When he reaches the stairs, he hears voices.
“Looks like three of them, armed. The-the hostage is tied to a chair in the middle of the room, he…” Red Robin takes a steadying breath. The person has a burlap sack over their head is slumped to the side, from where he is, Red Robin can’t see if his chest is moving. There’s blood on the floor. “He needs medical assistance. Another two on the northside entrance.”
The comms explode in admonitions, everyone pleading with him to stay where he is, to wait for help, but fuck that. With a tap, he switches them off and he can finally, just about make out the words of the kidnappers as he creeps down the first few steps.
“—shouldn’t he have woken up by now?”
“I don’t know, man, you’re the one that hit him! Do you think he’s—”
“No! I didn’t even hit him that hard, I swear!” the man cries, holding his hands up in surrender. “I just couldn’t take any more of his stupid jokes!”
If there was any doubt in Red Robin’s mind that they picked up Danny by mistake, it’s gone now. Yeah. If you get Danny, you get his stupid jokes, too.
He creeps closer.
There’s some storage crates between him and Danny, if he can get behind there without being seen then that leaves him in a good position for when whoever’s next in takes out the guys at the front. He can’t do anything without them gone first, not without risking them taking shots inside and endangering Danny.
The man that hit Danny circles round behind him and grabs at his hands.
“What are you even doing, Pat? Who gives a shit, leave him alone.”
“I’m just checking! I just gotta see!”
“Fuck’s sake, guys, who cares? We just gotta get our money, that’s it—”
“And our helicopter!”
“And our—”
“Shit, I can’t find a pulse! Shit, Frank, I killed him, I—”
Jason told him once that when the Pits overtook him, he used to see green. Instead of blacking out, he’d be swimming in that putrid Lazarus colour and he’d slip into that rage and bad things would happen.
He’s heard of people seeing red, too, but really, he thinks that’s more of a literary device.
Tim doesn’t see anything aside from his targets.
A barrage of birdarangs take the guns from the guys at the front, the three around Danny startling badly enough that the guy that kil—that’s behind Danny—stumbles, losing his footing.
Only one of them shoots.
Amateurs.
There’s a round of curses on the comms as the shots come through. Oracle must have turned them back on.
“Fucking hell—Nightwing and I are at the front, Red Robin, don’t worry about them.”
Red Robin’s barely listening.
He spins, kicking the largest guy in the stomach hard enough so that he doubles over, wheezing. Following through the movement, another kick lands on the side of his head and he’s down.
The second one, Frank, gets his wits about him and raises his gun, spraying wildly. He’s a shit shot, going wide in panic, and Red Robin simply ducks and rushes forward, keeping low. Tackling the guy, he grabs the gun off of him and uses it to smash him across the face, once, twice, three times, before he stops moving.
“Oracle, get police and paramedics on scene, now.” Batman says, the displeasure in his voice evident. “Red Robin, Robin and I are coming in from the top.”
Pat hasn’t even made it up off the floor yet, scrambling backwards, fear plain on his face.
Red Robin stands, breathing heavily, gun still in hand.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I swear I didn’t mean to do it! Please—please, don’t, please!”
Red Robin doesn’t kill.
Well, no, Red Robin doesn’t normally kill.
No, that’s not quite right, either.
Red Robin has killed. Red Robin will more than likely kill again. Red Robin sees no problem with killing.
The gun is up, pointing towards the guy without any real thought about it.
Footsteps rush behind him, the familiar heavy footfalls of Batman and Robin, so he doesn’t bother turning around. The gun follows the guy as he keeps pulling himself backwards, snot and tears mingling down his face.
“Red Robin,” Batman says, softly.
It’s always weird hearing Batman’s voice like that. It’s not the first time, obviously—Batman can’t use his scary intimidating voice on victims or children, after all—but having it used on him is weird.
“Breathe.”
“He’s dead. They killed him.”
If hearing Batman’s voice was weird, Red Robin can’t even recognise his own.
Distantly, he realises he’s dissociating. There’s a tightness in his chest, it’s hard to breathe, a growing buzz drowns out any noise in his ears and he can’t think, he can’t—
A heavy hand squeezes his shoulder, jolting him out of his thoughts. Batman reaches around and gently removes the gun from his grip, and Tim feels the instant loss of it. He should have done it, why hadn’t he done it?
Robin takes care of the last man, his crying cut off by a swift kick to the head. Nightwing and Red Hood join them, zip-tying the men on the floor and starting to drag them back to the entrance of the warehouse one by one.
No one says a word.
Shrugging off Batman’s hand, Tim moves towards the chair.
Shaking, he takes a deep breath and removes the sack. The small part of him that was left hoping it wasn’t him, it couldn’t be him, please dear God let it not be him, shatters.
Even dead, he looks peaceful.
Tim’s seen death. He’s no stranger to it, he’s seen what it can do to a person. There’s some blood coagulating over his eyebrows, but otherwise, he looks peaceful. Is that comforting? That he didn’t suffer?
Danny’s head lolls to the side as the sack comes completely away, his hair flopping over his eyes. Tim’s been on at him to get a haircut lately, he thinks it’ll be nice tidied up a bit, just on the sides. It’ll get rid of that permanent bedhead. Help him with job interviews, he’s got to be thinking about that now that he’s in his last year of college.
It’s about the only thing that’ll hold him back, Tim thinks. Danny’s brilliant. Any employer would be a fool to turn him down because of his shaggy hair, but employers are stupid so it makes sense to put your best foot forward and—
Tim falls to his knees.
Fuck.
He’s dead, he’s really—Danny’s skin is horribly pale, cold to the touch. Gone is his bright, cheerful smile.
“Danny, I’m sorry, I’m so, so sorry, I—”
He stops himself with a deep, shuddering breath. He can’t break down here, he can’t, he can’t, he can’t.
Instead, he tips forward to rest his head in Danny’s lap, arms curling around himself. They were too late. They got here as fast as they could and they were too late.
“Danny, I’m so sorry…” he whispers. “I… I love you, I love you, I’m sorry.”
Dimly, he can feel the others standing around them. Someone crouches down beside him, resting a comforting arm over his back, but he doesn’t turn his head to see who it is. He squeezes his grip on Danny’s legs tighter.
“Come on, baby bird. Let’s—”
They’re interrupted by a huge, honking snore as Danny jerks himself awake.
Tim’s head snaps up, staring at Danny with wide eyes.
“You were asleep?” Red Robin springs up, several different emotions rapidly flip flopping through him.
“Wha… What?” Danny heaves a yawn, blinking blearily down at him. “Sorry, I’m just… they were shit kidnappers, man, really boring. Honestly, worst abduction yet.”
“You were asleep? I thought you were dead!”
“Not mutually exlusive, you know.” Danny says through another yawn. He rolls his neck around with an almighty crack and glances at everyone. “Didn’t think I’d warrant the whole Bat brigade, though…”
“The kidnappers thought they had Tim Drake.” Batman supplies, while Red Robin tries to work through the emotional whiplash.
“Ah, makes sense… wait.” Danny sits up suddenly, squinting at Red Robin. “Did you say you loved me?”
“No, of course not, why would I—”
“Tim? Is that—are you—are you Red Robin?”
“Everyone, hold the fuck up!” Red Hood shouts from the other side of the warehouse, having finished securing the perps to a streetlight outside. “Double R is dating Danny fucking Nightingale?”
Well, there goes his identity… Oh, who’s he kidding, Danny’s smart. There’s no way he could have salvaged that. This was not how he thought the night was going to go.
“Cranberry, is that you?” Danny twists in his chair, somehow delighted to see Red Hood rescuing him, too. “I thought I smelled you lurking about!”
“Shut it, you little shit. Since when were you dating this dweeb?”
“I’m sorry,” Red Robin pleads, hands in the air to try and slow down the onslaught of information and insults, “you two know each other?”
“Cranberry?” Nightwing echoes, looking as lost as Red Robin feels.
“Yeah, Cranberry—The Cranberries—zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie. Obviously. Also he’s wearing a big, fuck off red helmet.”
“Yeah, sure, makes sense.”
It’s about the only thing that does.
“And please don’t call my boyfriend a dweeb, Cranberry. Especially when he just said he loves me for the first time.”
“He only said it because he thought you were dead.”
“I am dead, so it counts.”
“Only half, so I’d say that puts you at a solid ‘like’. Tim’s—and savour this, Tim, because I’m only going to say it once—Tim’s intelligent, so I’m sure he’ll come to his senses soon.”
Danny just throws Red Hood such a shit-eating grin. A level of feral that Tim’s only seen before in Damian.
“That’s what I used to say about Jazz, too.”
Hood scoffs in offence, and to be honest, Tim’s not sure where he should go from here. What the hell is happening, how do they know each other?
“Come on, is anyone going to untie me or am I really meeting your family mafia-style?”
“Do it yourself, Slimer.” Red Hood laughs, crossing his arms.
“Ugh, you suck so much. I’ll fucking slime you, just you wait. Can’t believe Jazz even likes you, I preferred it when she was dating Johnny.”
And then, without Danny doing anything other than muttering obscenities at Red Hood, the ropes fall to the ground. In one swift motion, Danny stands up and stretches himself to his full height of 5’6.
“All of you need to explain, now.” commands Batman, and honestly, Red Robin’s very much on his side of it.
“I can’t believe it… Jason and Timmy are both in secret relationships? That’s… How come no one told me?” Poor Nightwing sounds the most shocked out of all of them. He turns to Damian and clasps onto both of his shoulders. “You’re not secretly dating, are you, D? Please tell me you’re not, please tell me you’re single, please?”
Of course, Robin just clicks his tongue and pushes his hands away. Really, Red Robin doesn’t think that Nightwing’s in any danger of that happening, he’d be surprised if anyone could stand Robin enough to actually date him.
He shakes his head and turns to Danny, who’s staring right back at him, worry clear on his face.
Fuck, he... He's alive. He's really alive.
Tim pulls him into a bone-crushing hug, fingers buried deep in his NASA shirt. Tucking his face into the crook of Danny's shoulder, he laughs wetly with the joy of it. He's alive. He hasn't lost him. He's safe.
“I’m sorry I haven’t told you before now, starshine, but…” Danny breaks the hug and softly pulls away from him to rise on his tiptoes to place a kiss his cheek. The skin burns cold where his lips touch. “I love you, too. Also, you’re gonna wanna sit down. This is going to be a lot.”

toaster waffles
in which spencer is woken up by fem!reader and their young daughter after being away on a case
fluff warnings/tags: none really, a bit of suggestiveness between spencer and reader but nothing explicit, their daughter is a genius duh, i love dad!spence so fucking much holy shit a/n: i wrote this in like thirty minutes so good luck! just needed to write dad spencer it just needed to happen idk
“No—baby, we have to let daddy sleep in,” you chide your daughter, jogging to catch her as she races down the hallway on clumsy little legs.
“No! I wanna see daddy!” She yells—and if Spencer wasn’t awake yet, he will be now. You give in, opening the bedroom door for Ada with a fond (exasperated) sigh.
“Daddy! Daddy wake up!”
He blinks sleepily several times, sitting up and grinning at his daughter as she attempts to climb up onto the bed.
“Hi, princess,” he laughs, grunting dramatically as he pulls her up onto his lap. “Oh my gosh, did you get all grown up while I was gone?”
He catches your eye as you stop at the foot of the bed, arms folded and mouthing an amused ‘I’m sorry.’ Spencer smiles and almost imperceptibly shakes his head, eyes sparkling as Ada attempts to use him as playground equipment. No apology necessary.
“I made you breakfast!” she remembers, grabbing onto his shoulders and springing up and down on the bed. His eyes go wide.
“You did? Where is it?”
“Oh no!” she claps her hands to her cheeks and opens her mouth wide, Home Alone style. Spencer laughs. “I forgot it!”
Then she’s wriggling off the bed and running as fast as her little feet will carry her, presumably to the kitchen.
“You like cold toaster waffles, right?” you tease, approaching the bed and filling the now empty seat that is Spencer’s lap. His hands find your waist as you wrap your arms around his neck.
“I would go so far as to say I love them. Hi, baby.”
“Hi,” you murmur, resting your head on his shoulder. “I missed you. I forgot how hard it is when you’re gone.”
He hums, running his hand over your hair.
“I know. Me too.” Spencer now only consults on cases, and very rarely is he actually obliged to travel with the BAU. It was never easy before, but now that you have a child, it takes more out of everyone. “Hey. Look at me.”
You do, lifting your head and meeting his soft gaze. He leans forward and captures your lips in a gentle kiss, brushing his thumb over your cheek before pulling away. “I love you. Thank you for taking care of the progeny while I was away. I know it’s not easy on your own.”
“Eh. She’s alright. She reads to me at bedtime.”
Spencer grins, eyes darting back to your lips. Several quick kisses are pressed there in succession, and it’s not exactly how he wanted to say good morning to you but that will have to wait until later.
“Ewww!”
Ada is at the door again, waffle in hand, making a half-disgust half-delight face before prancing back to the bed and receiving another airlift from Spencer up onto the mattress.
“What do you mean, ew?” he asks in mock offense as her legs swing in the air. “You’re next!”
You watch in unadulterated joy as he peppers little kisses all over her face and she pretends to hate it, squealing with glee.
“Is that for me?” he asks once she’s comfortably sharing his lap with you, pointing to the forgotten waffle. She holds it up, pressing the disk against his lips. Spencer takes a bite, makes an exaggerated yum sound, and kisses her forehead once more. “Thank you. That was delicious.”
“You have to eat all of it so you’ll grow up big and strong.”
“Oh, okay. I’ll do that. Why don’t you leave it on the nightstand and go find a book we can read together?”
“Game of Thrones!”
“No!” he laughs. “That book is way too grownup for you!”
“But I read the first three pages!”
“I know you did. And Auntie Penelope is still in big trouble for that. Go get Lord of the Rings.”
Full of energy despite the early hour, Ada skitters off again to find the book.
“She’s too smart for her own good,” you sigh, listening to her making up a song as she picks through the book shelf in the next room.
“Intelligence is generally more nurture than nature. If we act fast we could probably stunt her IQ to just two or three standard deviations above the average.”
You giggle, straddling him as he slips his hand under your shirt to rub your back. Then you try to school your features into a serious expression.
“Not funny.”
That big, lazy grin might never fade—and you’d be happy to look at it forever.
“You’re right. Not funny at all.”
“Hey,” you remember, grabbing his biceps. He raises his eyebrows expectantly. “I was gonna make you real breakfast. What do you want?”
“You don’t have to do that.”
“I know I don’t. I want to. So tell me what you want.”
“Anything other than a toaster waffle.”
You snort, moving to slide off the bed.
“We can probably make that happen.”
“Hey—" he catches your waist, pulling you closer. “Penelope is taking Ada to the park this afternoon. We’re gonna spend some time together, okay?”
After having an entire child together, you still get butterflies when he looks at you like that.
“What if I have plans this afternoon?”
Spencer doesn’t even look mildly concerned—just tilts his head, brushes his thumb over your lips.
“Then I’m asking you to cancel them, pretty girl. I owe you some undivided attention.”
You chew on your lip. It’s embarrassing how easily he can still fluster you.
“Right now I have to go find out why our child is being so quiet.”
He laughs, letting you slip from his grasp for good.
“She probably got into the Stephen King again.”
You pick up the waffle and gesture at him with it emphatically as you walk away.
“This is all your fault.”
“Mm… let’s call it a team effort.”

[ DON’T BE SORRY. ] : 5.1k words. 𖤐 LUCIFER MORNINGSTAR X FEM READER. — you’re dating the big boss of hell himself, but it’s a sticky situation when you’re also good friends with a tech-savvy overlord who believes the cause of your boyfriend’s daughter is absolute bullshit.
#tags. slight hurt/comfort, slight jealousy, nsfw (+18), fluff, smut, vox being a hell of a friend, lucifer being vulnerable as hell,
a/n. fuuuuck i forgot to post this under the request but this was the request that i wrote this for <33 didn''t even remember they wanted fluff which is lucky bc i suck at fluff so i don't write it too often but i ended up writing in fluff anyway bc it felt appropriate for the fic SO
masterlist. request something :>
Tumblr media
“Sir, someone is here to see you.”
Vox growled. His office would have been pitch black if it weren’t for the multitude of tv screens that stared right back at him, boring holes into his screen. They buzzed and whined with a cyan glare bright enough to light the entire pentagram. Claw marks left the edges of his head unpolished, his bowtie askew as his teeth grinded so hard he wanted to encounter a system error.
“Tell Val I am not in the mood for sorting out whatever’s got his panties in a twist this time—”
“Someone else, sir.”
“Well don’t just stand there you useless fuck! Who the fuck is it?” Static shocks ruptured from the wires on his head as he jumped out of his chair fuming.
The employee pulled one of the handles of Vox’s grand doors. In pranced a sunlit woman with a grin that stained her cheeks red. On her arms were shopping bags lined all the way down their forearms, marking their weight on her flesh.
You pulled your rose-tinted sunglasses away from your face as you cocked a brow.
“What, are you not happy to see me Vicky?”
“When are you gonna stop calling me that, you absolute slut!” Vox beamed, and as if a new line of code had entered his program, he shedded his jacket off to peel your shopping bags off you as he set them on his couch.
“What brings you back here after all this time, whore? And whose money are you wearing because I know there’s no goddamn way that’s all yours,” Vox laughed through his clearly lighthearted remarks.
“Whatever. Whore is right because you’ll never guess who I’m fucking.”
.
On the edge of the pride ring resided halls and halls of vintage red wallpaper and intricate gold decor. Knocking frantically at her father’s door just to ask where his partner had gone was never how Charlie would have imagined her morning to go, ever, but here she was, knees wobbling with her hands clasped together as she waited no longer than a second before she had her fist in the air again to—
“Charlie?”
“Dad!”
When Charlie had asked of your whereabouts, Lucifer simply frowned, though a hint of terror struck his shrunken pupils.
“Uh—I thought she was with you? Don’t you guys have that trust building exercise thing on today—”
“Yes! Yes that is precisely why I am panicking—she’s not in her room and she never misses our gatherings! Dad, how do you not know where she is?” Charlie screeched anxiously.
“Relax, Charlie I’m sure there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for—”
“For her not to tell her own boyfriend where she’s going?” Charlie seethed with dirt kicked into her tone.
“Let me call her, okay?” Lucifer pulled his phone out and speed dialed you.
Something in his room buzzed intermittently.
Charlie peered into her father’s room, only to find another phone rattling on the further bedside table.
Lucifer looked over his shoulder to the same view. His shoulders dropped.
“Ohhh no.”
.
“Face it baby, I got bigger bucks than daddy could ever conjure up.”
“Vox!” You punched him in the shoulder, unable to hold back laughs that pulled at the bottom of your stomach.
“What? Oh my god, you actually call him that in bed don’t you, you bitch? Holy shit, you really are a slut!” Vox cracked up after you both had left his building. “Where to?”
“A few blocks away I got something to show you in the ma …”
Your lips fell numb when your gaze fell on a certain man with a white overcoat tailing in the wind as he approached your direction with a storm in his steps. He had been looking at his sides—your hand moved to shove Vox even before your body could follow.
“Ow, what—”
“Go.”
“Babe, what’s—”
“Vox go GO! Back in now!” You spun him on his heel and elbowed him back into the glass doors of his building lobby.
“Honey?”
“Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck—”
He called your name, loud and clear as day that even the ruby skies of hell echoed it.
“That’s him, isn’t it?” Vox deadpanned.
“Hey!”
Both yours and Vox’s heads turned to the sound, Lucifer just a few strides away from possibly opening a portal down a ring.
“You!” Lucifer barked, gaze locked with Vox’s. “The fuck are you doing calling my girlfriend ‘babe’?”
“Oh, that’s not—”
“Lie to me and I swear to fucking god I’ll make sure they’ll be prying you for parts.”
“Luci.”
“What?” His head snapped in your direction.
A silent gasp escaped you.
His shoes hadn’t nearly been dragged through as much gravel as his voice had been. It was something he’d dug up from the depths of his chest like it was nothing—and it brimmed with the filth of his own disdain.
Lucifer blinked hard as he shook his head. “Honey, I didn’t—”
“We’re just friends.”
“I know that but—”
“It’s an expression.”
Lucifer blinked a few times again, and with each blink he lost more and more tension in his brows, his shoulders—even his lips parted, perhaps to say something, perhaps not.
You and Vox were frozen halfway through the door so Lucifer kicked him in and shut the door quickly to leave you and himself out on the street.
“Why didn’t you tell me where you were going?” Lucifer asked, and it was like he placed a pillow to your head with the way his tone softened. His thumb had somehow ended up stroking soft circles on the back of your palm as he held your hand.
Vox stayed inside but his prying eyes stared through the glass nonetheless. He crossed his arms.
“Don’t look at him, darling,” Lucifer consoled with a lowered voice. He delicately took your chin and pivoted it back to him. “Look at me.”
“Look, can we talk about this back at the hotel?” You asked, but with the tone you used, you were teetering on the edge of pleading. “I’m … I’m sorry.”
“Oh, honey,” Lucifer cooed, tucking away any small pieces of hair that hung over your face. “Of course we can.”
All you could do was give Vox a weary glance before you ducked down into Lucifer’s car and disappeared in the distance.
.
The ride back had not been short of thick silences that hung in the air. Everytime you looked to him for some sort of emotion, there was nothing for you to read; his complexion was a still pond resting under the moon’s grace. Not even anger bubbled up the surface—and this is solely based on your assumption of what he must have been feeling, because he was a blank page. It’s only reasonable.
Lucifer stopped at the newly built hazbin parking lot but didn’t pull out the key.
He looked at you expectantly, turning even his upper body to face you.
You bit your lip.
“You don’t wanna go inside first?” A squeak of a voice was all you managed.
“I don’t want Charlie to see us upset,” Lucifer reasoned solemnly as he frowned at the floor before he returned his attentive gaze to you. “Whatever it is, I’m sure we can work it out in here.”
“I’m … ashamed, okay,” you exhaled, folding your arms over your chest as you slouched forward. “I’m in hell for a reason. I know it looks bad but I’ve known Vox since he was alive. And I still believe in Charlie’s cause! I’m doing better … you know that, right?”
“Of course, I do, sweetie,” Lucifer blurted immediately, holding your arms like he was the glue to keep you from crumbling apart. “But why did you … did you think I wasn’t going to understand if you had told me?”
“Yes,” you admitted. “Even I wouldn’t have understood if I were in your shoes. I mean, I act like a completely different person around him. And I know what Vox has done, trying to send in Sir Pentious as a spy. It’s horrible. But he wasn’t always like that. Or, maybe he was but—never with me.”
“Honey, I trust you more than just about anyone in this hell. And fuck, that’s difficult in this side of the world, right? I mean—I just … you had me thinking the worst. Well, maybe not the worst but—”
“You thought I was cheating on you, didn’t you?”
“No, never,” Lucifer denied immediately as his eyes widened but his brows furrowed. “I knew it was some kind of mistake. I know you’d never do that to me. But you know … catching up with an overlord like it’s a regular tuesday still raises a few questions if—”
“I know that. I’m sorry. I should have told you. I’m sorry,” you repeated rigidly, curling into yourself so much that your head landed on his shoulder as he still held your arms.
Lucifer pulled back to hold your face by the cheeks, and you didn’t struggle against him as he pressed his forehead on yours, his hat tilting up to accomodate you.
“How about a kiss and we’ll call it even?” He smiled, and you felt his warmth spread to your cheeks.
You grinned back. “Okay.”
You tilted your chin up and gave him a kiss, and both of you had sustained it longer than either of you had expected. Your hand cupped his own over your cheek.
Your lips finally parted, but not much before you both reconnected again, then again, and the third time your mouth was a little more open—and Lucifer’s tongue slithered inside.
Your tongue met his, and they rolled over each other every time you kissed him. A few more kisses, and suddenly you were biting his lip lightly. He chuckled.
“I can see you’re eager to make it up to me, princess,” he said in that voice he knew drove you up the wall.
“I am,” you hummed, a little more innocently than you had intended.
“Well, what are you gonna do?” He asked, genuine curiosity brewing in a higher tone.
You slipped away from his flowerbud grasp and pulled the lever of your seat. The backrest declined all the way backwards, and you laid down comfortably while your thumb slid under your dress and hooked around something that was already mildly damp.
“I’m gonna sit back …”
You chuckled as Lucifer’s eyes followed your every movement like a moth to a lamp; he followed the way your underwear slid down your knees before you folded your legs up to your chest to fully rid yourself from the garment. You tossed your underwear in his face before he could get a good view of what he’s getting himself into.
He shook his head in a jolt, crumpling your panties and stuffing them into his pocket anxiously. But by then you were modest again, with your dress covering your thighs but still riding up dangerously high.
“And let you decide the rest,” you finished in a thin breath.
“Goodness, okay, woo! Okay—” Lucifer sputtered and fanned his overcoat as he averted his gaze. It didn’t last long when his gaze gravitated towards your core that had been concealed but outlined your dress.
You bit your lip. “Well?”
Lucifer’s shoulder emerged from his coat as he shrugged one side of it off, and your gaze magnetized to the view as it slipped down him like a snake traversing down a tree.
He planted his knee on the closer edge of your seat and it didn’t take long for him to shift your legs closer together, allowing space for his knees on either side of your thighs. Though, steadying himself naturally had his chest protruding as he held onto the car ceiling for support. His muscles peeked through the folds of his dress shirt, and the same can be said with his chest under his waistcoat. But that—that was no complaint.
He finally fell to you with only his forearms to keep him up. His eyelids sank, his gaze indecisive between your eyes and your dry lips.
He settled on neither when he ducked below your jaw and planted kisses along it before he strayed downwards.
The spaghetti string of your dress slid down your shoulder the more your squirmed at Lucifer’s nibbles. You knew the moment he caught sight of this because he hesitated for a tenth of a second.
He grinned. He took it between his fingers delicately and slid it down further.
“Whoops,” he grinned.
Glossy silicon mocked him as it peeked out from what had been peeled off you.
“Luci, careful with that, I’ll need to put it back on later—”
Lucifer tore it off you anyway, tossing it to the back with his overcoat. “I’ll give you my coat when we go in, you’ll be fine.”
“Luci!” You laughed as he did the same with the other, your nipples stiffened from the cold air of the car.
Lucifer sat on your pelvis, his hands traveling under your boobs to cradle them.
You both have had sex multiple times together, and yet every time he removes undergarments off you, he enters a dazed trance like it was something new. Something to bask in the wonders of.
He massaged your breasts gently, and it didn’t take long before he ducked down and had his lips wrapped around one of your nipples, one hand twisting and playing with the other.
A noise bubbled in your throat but you held your breath and bit your lip. Watching Lucifer hadn’t been any help; he cocked a brow at you, and a cheeky grin still made its way to the red circles on his cheeks as he quicked his tongue’s flicks against you. You gritted your teeth, a squeak making it past your lips.
His hand abandoned the other nipple, but before you could whine in protest a new sensation rose in your lower stomach as Lucifer shifted his entire body further down.
His fingers had already been deep beneath your folds, your clit sitting pretty between as he pinched it and rubbed it in his grasp.
“Luci … fuck …”
“Atta girl,” he chuckled. Hell, you hated just how raspy his voice gets when he’s worked up. That by itself had been a leg-opener all on its own. “That’s it. Let me hear you sing.”
Your legs flinched at the jolt of pleasure his fingers brought, and Lucifer took this opportunity to lift the hem of your dress for easier access—and perhaps, a pretty view.
Every so often, he’d bring the threat of pushing his middle finger past your walls, but through the haze of pleasure, it was impossible to read his intentions when he easily could have been using your juices to lubricate his ministrations on your clit.
It had been like the wave of a wand, the way his free hand undid his tie. It dangled loose below his collar that he used to straighten out so diligently; something once so clean soon turned into a crumpled mess in your name.
His wrist pivoted down to the buttons on his waistcoat. The faintest flick of his thumb and suddenly his waistcoat hung dead on his torso before he rubbed faster on your clit, making your squeal.
Cold air brushed past your arousal at the sudden absence of him, and your walls throbbed against each other in response; they bruised and ached and when Lucifer turned down the brightness of the car light, it was all you could feel besides the leather your nails were sinking into.
“Luci, please …”
“Please what, honey?”
“It hurts,” you whined. You didn’t mean to, and in fact a burning sense of shame rose up to your neck and cheeks as sweat tore through the pores on your forehead but all you could do was grab his hand.
“I’m coming, daddy’s coming.”
A slow zipping sound ensued and just as quickly, the head of his erection pressed into your folds and your dripping walls pushed back from the pressure.
You moaned and grabbed Lucifer’s shoulders out of raw instinct, which brought him closer to you.
“You want it all, princess?”
“Yes, fuck yes,” your mouth sagged numb from having to carry your writhing heart in your throat. The vulnerability of his skin on yours, the way his head was just so warm compared to the cold air earlier—your pussy throbbed once more.
 “Are you sure?”
“Please please please Luci I can’t—oh! Fuck!”
He pushed his length into you, your neck arching back as you grabbed a fistful of his shirt from where your hands hung around his neck.
Your throat clogged with the embarrassing sounds you knew you would have let out if you had no restraint left. You closed your eyes, knowing well that they were halfway to the back of your head.
Your stomach seemed to make way for his size in you, tossing and spreading the ache to your limbs as your entire body steeled to accommodate him and the space he filled in you.
“Are you okay?” He asked.
You nodded, and a hole punctured through your throat as you sighed shakily. “Yes, god—”
“Don’t say his name,” Lucifer breathed, his hand soft on your neck as he looked at your lips then back up at you. “If you have to say someone’s name, let it be mine.”
“I’m sorry.” Was the first thing your brain conjured, and the only thing you could utter when all else in there had been undone.
Lucifer kissed your jaw. “Don’t be sorry baby.”
He took your lips in his, his forked tongue brushing past your teeth once more. “Don’t be sorry.”
It was barely considered movement when he pulled out less than half his entire length and pushed in gently, as if you were something fragile he couldn’t afford to drop. You bit your lip and hummed at how smooth he slid into you, how your juices coated him beyond what was needed.
He pulled out quickly but reentered languidly, like a wave finding its way to shore your core clenched at the nerves that tingled in you, the bruises almost sated in what it yearned for as he thrusted again, and your heart spewed.
“Fuck, if you make a sound like that again I don’t know if I’ll be able to control myself,” Lucifer panted. “You’re so pretty, it makes me tremble.”
You reached up to give him another kiss, tilting your head along with the circles spinning in it. “Do whatever you want to me. You deserve that much.”
“Yeah? Well, I want to treat you like fucking royalty. Savor every inch if you,” Lucifer hissed through his pleasure. A choked moan left you, causing Lucifer to smile. “Yeah, see? Just like that princess. Fuck, taking me so well …”
With how soft his thrusts were, pressure subsided into more liquid pleasure that sloshed over your nerves. They lit up like christmas lights in your brain as you both moved in tandem to Lucifer’s pace.
A fire had started at your nape from the body heat that had nowhere to go, sweat dripping from your hairline and paving wavy lines of hair that caused your forehead to glisten. Your collarbones warmed up in a different way, Lucifer’s hot breath filling the space between the both of you.
His thrusts grew anxious over time, but his hips never once hit your ass which might have scalded your stomach further; the fact that this man possessed an iron grip over his control in his strokes, he had been careful not to taint you—he only took from places he knew both of you would be enraptured in—and absolutely nothing less.
“Honey, I can’t—” he hissed through gritted teeth as his fingers curled in your hair. His eyes wandered down to how your breasts bobbed to his strokes. He moaned your name, and if the car hadn’t been shaking from Lucifer’s rutting, it shook from the way he proclaimed your name and dropped his head like he was bowing to a god. “Holding me so tight—you worried I’m gonna let go, sweetie?”
“No—ngh! You just feel so good I c-can’t!” You yelped in time with each thrust that followed. “Luci, I—fuck!”
His head perked up, just like the bundle of nerves in that oh-so familiar spot. An old friend.
Lucifer gave a determined grin, sweat trickling down his cheek as he paused to wipe it away.
“Well, hello,” he greeted in a low sultry voice.
He resumed fucking you, but this time he had you screaming his name as his length rubbed up against that spot your body purred to. You shivered and your walls clenched, causing Lucifer to falter.
“F-Fuck, that’s it, good girl,” he grunted in between controlled thrusts that had your gut squeezing. He never once missed.
When your walls fluttered, Lucifer chuffed through his teeth and through the fog of your satisfaction, you indulged in the smell of cotton candy sweat.
“You’re close, princess, so close, I can feel it.”
You gritted your teeth with whatever strength you had left, even your hands had begun to slip from Lucifer’s shoulders.
“You?” Was all you could manage.
“Me? Baby, seeing you like this has me fucked out,” Lucifer huffed. “Shit!”
You squeezed his shoulders before he could pull out.
“In me, Luci!”
He froze, shaking his head to wave away his own daze to focus on you, the things your … request entailed.
“Darling, I don’t have a condom on,” he whispered as the inner corners of his brow quivered.
“You’d make beautiful fucking babies, Luci—I wanna carry them.” Your voice had been obliterated from the sounds Lucifer had fucked out of you. Wispy breaths was what it had become—but the red in your cheeks and your weakened yet felicious state made Lucifer smile.
“You’re not thinking straight,” he said your name and it was nearly enough to get you back down from the clouds. “C’mon, honey …”
“Luci …” you whined. “You’re so goddamn hot when you’re being responsible …”
“Yeah?” He laughed softly, cradling your cheek in his hand.
“Yeah …”
“Let’s finish you up, okay?” He reached up to kiss your forehead but you squeaked from the fact that his length slid deep into you in the process. “Ah, sorry—”
“Don’t be sorry, baby,” you quoted him from last time, and his surprise melted into a warm smile instead. “Please fuck me.”
“As you wish.”
You screamed brokenly as he continued his ruthless pace from before, and he remembered the exact angle to hit. Your nerves were about ready to jump out from your body as you skyrocketed back into the clouds, your orgasm coming sooner than you could warn him.
“Cumming!” He gritted through his teeth as his horns shot up from his head and you both came together with Lucifer’s cum hitting your dress instead.
Your head hung off the car seat’s headrest. Sweat shimmered on the leather you laid on, and your legs trembled from how long they’d been held at the same position. The only thing you two shared now was open-mouth breaths. You thought of moving, but your muscles were well past its limit to even be lifted.
Lucifer twisted around to grab tissues from the passenger seat compartment. In just a few seconds, he wiped out most of the evidence of himself on your dress. By this time, his horns were long gone and his eyes had returned back to its original form.
“Fuck … I didn’t think this through …” Lucifer grumbled to himself as he hit his temple with his palm. He ran his fingers through his hair before he mustered a weak smile for you. “Wait here, I’ll grab your clothes from your room.”
You exhaled audibly as he vanished with a swirl of sparkling red smoke.
A few breaths of silence by yourself wasn’t ideal, especially when you felt the whine and ache of your limbs in the fact that you were as good as scattered leaves across autumn grass.
Just then, your phone buzzed from the cupholder.
You winced as you bent to take it.
Brat >:)

Vox : ( typing … )
Your phone levitated out of your hands and when you followed where it zipped off to—
“Luci!” You sprung up from the declined backrest in surprise.
Lucifer squinted at your phone as he swiped his thumb down on your screen.
“First of all, I’m honored that you’re telling people how well I pleasure you. Second of all,” Lucifer paused, leaning into you as he used his free arm to hold himself up to you. “Vox is in a world of hurt if he thinks I’m gonna let him lay a finger on you.”
“Yeah?” You copied the way Lucifer says it and watched as his face reddened.
You noticed your spare clothes on his lap and you lifted the dress over your head and discarded it on the floor of the backseat.
You held out your hand for Lucifer to hand you your clothes.
He simply looked at your hand, then back at your naked body, then back at your hand as took it in his own.
You laughed. Hard.
“What—what’s happening why’re you—”
“The clothes, baby!”
“Oh—Oh! Right! Shit!” He finally handed you an oversized shirt, fresh underwear and a pair of shorts you used to at-home wear. “I thought you were asking for another round or something, holy shit—”
“I mean …” you smirked.
“Honey …” Lucifer warned, as if trying to keep a predator from attacking.
“Oh? You don’t wanna? My bad,” you replied innocently. “I was just wondering if Vox was free tonight—”
“I know you’re trying to get a rise out of me but honey …” Lucifer trailed off as he flipped your phone and shoved it into his back pocket.
He crossed over to your seat once more and pinned you back down where you once were, one knee pressed on the side of your seat as his hands ended up on either side of your neck.
“I hate to remind you that I am the fucking devil,” his voice dripped with a poison much worse than what you’ve heard from Alastor’s static. His horns hadn’t sprouted out yet but with his eyes aching red, it wasn’t too far from reappearing. “And if you love me as much as I love you then there is no goddamn way in this realm I am sharing you with anyone else let alone some overlord who thinks Alexander is worth anyone’s fucking time.”
“It’s Alastor and—” you paused, combing through your hair idly. “Luci, Vox is only a friend from the living world—“
“A friend who thinks he can fuck you.”
“He’s in hell for a reason.” You crossed your arms.
Lucifer sighed and closed his eyes, the red dissipating from them once they reopened.
“Listen, honey, I—” Lucifer’s gaze lifted away from you for a moment, almost like he’d been overwhelmed with the words clogged in his throat. “You’re someone I can’t afford to … mess up … again. And I know that means simply letting you be. But also, I’ve just—I’ve lost so much, and I only just got Charlie back so I …”
You lifted your arm as your hand fell on his cheek, your thumb softly stroking him back and forth.
He closed his eyes, letting out a shaky breath as he placed his hand on yours.
“I know Vox is just a friend. And I know it’s insane to think I’ll lose you to him, but … at the end of the day, this is hell. He still mocks the very thing we’re trying to achieve and I get that you’re not like that and that you’re not easily manipulated but I just …”
“Luci …” you muttered. You sat up and kissed him chastely on the cheek.
“I think about losing you a lot. I think about it to an irrational degree. So it’s not actually something you can fix. It’s something I have to do on my own.”
“Even if that’s true, I can still do my best to be with you and make sure you feel loved everyday. I really was a dick today, I had no idea you were … I’m s—”
“It’s okay. We …” Lucifer chuckled weakly. “We made up, remember?”
“Yeah,” you smiled. “Luci … you know I love you, right?”
“Like the sun loves the moon,” Lucifer said.
And you knew where it came from, maybe not its exact whereabouts but just how deep it was embedded to him, that statement; he himself had witnessed the creation of the sun and the moon. He knew the tides the two shared, the way their yearning for each other’s pull had been the natural way of things, the only way the people could ever experience day like they do night.
I know you love me because we love like its fate.
.
You and Lucifer walked into the hotel, your back slouched with Lucifer’s overcoat hanging over your shoulders as you folded your arms beneath them.
“Hey Charlie,” Lucifer greeted, and he told her daughter who was already making her way to you that you weren’t feeling well and that you needed rest. Of course, Charlie nodded and resumed her activities with her other friends.
You retired to Lucifer’s room, the left side of the bed while he took the right.
“I love you,” your chest exhausted what it had been used to holding for him, until you saw him.
“I love you, too,” Lucifer hummed back, a sigh escaping him like cherry blossoms in the wind.
“I love you for the soul you are beneath your bones.”

is that tax fraud?
for @corrodedcoffinfest warm-up round prompt ‘taxes’
rated t | 671 words | cw: language | tags: they’re just so stupid, and I love them, look Steve is here!
🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
“What the hell do you mean you’ve never filed taxes?” Jeff asked Gareth as they sat around trying to write a song.
Keyword: trying.
Now it looked like they were gonna be figuring out how to keep Gareth out of fucking prison for tax fraud.
“I thought our band accountant handled it!” Gareth exclaimed.
“We don’t have a band accountant! The label just handles our money!” Jeff exclaimed back.
“Okay, let’s calm down.” Eddie, the voice of reason at this moment, held his hands up towards them. “Technically, Gareth only turned 18 two years ago. That’s only two years of back taxes. And if he’s honest, it’ll be fine! He probably didn’t even make enough the first year for them to care.”
“Well, I did get an inheritance from my grandpa who died,” Gareth said unhelpfully. “Does that count as income?”
Everyone stared at him in shock.
“This is a joke,” Freak said from his spot on the couch. “Has to be.”
“Oh my god, our drummer is actively committing tax fraud,” Jeff put his head in his hands.
“Guys, it’s fine! I’ll just file it all this year,” Gareth assured them.
“We should call someone. Right? Someone should be told about this,” Eddie started pacing the floor, wearing a trail into the shag carpet.
Who even put shag carpet in here? Shag was terrible.
The door swung open and Steve walked in holding three large pizzas and a grocery bag full of sodas.
“They didn’t have any Mountain Dew, but that’s probably for the best. You guys have a conference call in an hour so eat up,” he said as he started setting everything on the coffee table. He looked around when he realized it was way too quiet. “Everything okay?”
“Stevie. I fear our drummer may be going to prison.”
Steve paled. “What? Why?”
“He forgot to tell the government he has money. For two years.”
“He what?” Steve looked at Gareth to explain.
“I didn’t know I was supposed to file my own taxes! I thought we had a guy!”
Steve looked between all of them. He looked at Gareth.
“You do have a guy. The label provides a guy. I think his name is Sam? Maybe Shane.” Steve shook his head. “Either way. You have a tax guy. He filed for all of you last year.”
You could hear a pin drop in the silence.
“What do you mean? We all filed for ourselves last year. Except Gareth, apparently,” Jeff was frowning at the floor.
“Uh, well, you may have given double the money, then,” Steve laughed, though this wasn’t exactly funny.
“So let me get this straight: the label provided a guy to do our taxes without telling us. We all file our own taxes after this guy already did. No one caught it. Gareth’s the only one who hasn’t double paid into the fucking government?” Eddie asked, face red with shame or anger, it was hard to say which.
“Yeah, appears so.”
“Fuck you guys. Had me worried I was going to prison and I’m the only one who’s done shit right!” Gareth laughed. He reached for a slice of pizza and sat back in his chair, smug smile on his face. “Feels good to have my taxes paid.”
“Shut the fuck up,” Freak rolled his eyes. “So how do we get money back if we double filed?”
“Not sure we can,” Jeff sighed. “Probably isn’t worth figuring it out anyway. It’s not like we were rolling in for last year’s taxes.”
“But this year…” Eddie started.
They all looked at each other and nodded.
Yeah. This year would be different. They’d skyrocketed after the release of their first album and their first tour. Money was…pretty fucking great.
“So…pizza?” Steve asked.
They all nodded and started grabbing for their food.
“If you guys want, I’m sure Nancy can try to find a way to get money back. She’s good at that stuff,” Steve suggested.
“Nah, she’d call us idiots.”
“Well, if the shoe fits.”
“Hey!”

pedro pascal is so daddy like… i genuinely dont know why this man doesnt have kids yet but I VOLUNTEER 🙋‍♀️
anywayss, i cant help but think about the domesticity of being married and expecting with pedro like we all know that man is old and is already daddy status but just imagining him coming home to you and your swollen belly after a day running around the city… to kiss on you and hold you like!!! you cant tell me that wouldn’t be the cutest shit ever
then you got the early mornings and late nights of him and you talking, watching movies together, laying on the couch in your spacious new york apartment, looking over on the city!!! and i just know no matter what, that man would just adore you. would always want to have you around, inviting you to come out with him while he’s working, always wanting to take you on dates, and events. i mean just utterly infatuated with you (especially if youre having his baby!?! like that man wouldnt know what to do with himself)
he would just take the best care of you… when he wakes up making sure your vitamins are all set up for you to take (so cant say you forgot!) and maybe writing little love notes incase you arent awake to bid him away for the few hours he’ll be gone. and he’d shoot you just random texts and pictures whether that be on set, in a meeting, driving/walking around, anything to let you know that youre on his mind… and when he comes home, oh lord. i wholeheartedly believe, after an extremely long day, he’d always come home with a little treat for you…
you’d be in the kitchen, getting dinner ready for the night, anticipating his arrival, as you hear the door open, and a loud and cheesy, “honey, im home!” to which he walks into your shared kitchen with a small little bag, holding a pastry he picked up for you on his way home just because he knows how much you love that bakery. you’d welcome him into your warm embrace and as you continue cooking for the two of you, nothing would make more sense than for him to rub that belly of yours…whispering all the praise you’d been aching to hear. telling you how beautiful you look, how strong you are, how grateful he is to have you, to hold you… and then ofcourse you’d enjoy the dinner you had made for the two of you. ending the night with the pastry pedro had picked up for you and a glass of wine for him…
ahhh! i totally rambled so much but i love pedro like UGH
Baby- p.p

"baby, im home" you heard Pedro voice echo through your New York apartment. you had moved in with Pedro two years ago after a year of dating and now you were pregnant with your first child together. you were in the kitchen making a sandwich which you had been craving for the past thirty minutes but you were too tired to even get up off the sofa to make it.
you were 7 months pregnant and even walking made you out of breath, it was like the baby was purposely kicking your rib cage just to make you more uncomfortable than you already were. you heard his footsteps walking toward the kitchen and smiled at him when he finally appeared.
he had been out in New York with Bella, doing random interviews which obviously didn't take long so they also went for lunch then here he was back home with you. he walked up to you and opened his arms wide for you to hug him. his left hand fell so he could gently place it on your stomach hoping that the baby would kick for him, which it almost always did.
a huge smile formed on his face when he held the strong kicks coming from the baby. he placed little kisses on your head as you cuddled yourself more into him. "how was your day sweetheart?" you snuggled into him further and sighed in contentment. "boring, couldn't move for ages because i was so tired. i was gonna start packing the hospital bag and do laundry but i couldn't get off the sofa"
"don't worry about the laundry baby, i'll do it later" he kissed your forehead again and tried to hold you as close as possible. "wanna go watch tv? i'll even let you pick" he said making you smile up at him. with a small nod of your head he lent in to kiss you for the first time that day he let go of you. you picked up the sandwich which had been forgotten on the kitchen counter and waddled your way back to the sofa.
after a few minutes of you scrolling through the different channels you felt the sofa dip beside you and Pedro's arm go around your shoulders pulling you carefully into his side. you felt his hand stroking your arms softly as you finally picked "Bridgerton" and finally let yourself relax in Pedro's hold, feeling the small pecks on your head throughout the show.
-
"what do you think the baby is?" you asked as the comforting silence between the two of you filled the bedroom, the only thing that could be heard was the tv which you both weren't paying attention too. you had decided to keep the gender a secret until he/she was born and now you were growing closer and closer to them being here the nerves were growing and so was your curiosity.
Pedro looked down at you and smiled softly, he had thought about the baby every day and what it was going to look like, what the gender was, what it's first word would be, all the normal things a parent thought about. "i don't know but i hope it's a girl and i hope she looks exactly like you because you're beautiful" you smiled brightly and felt your cheeks heat up at the compliment.
"what if it's a boy?" you questioned, feeling Pedro's hand on your bump and the strong kicks coming from your baby who was still wide awake at this late hour for some reason. "then it's a boy, i'm still gonna love them whatever they are. but i do really hope that it's a girl. she'd be so cute. also all the names we have picked out are for girls so" you laughed, it was true, every single name you had were all girl names.
comfortable silence filled the room again and Pedro let his eyes fall onto the bed covers where your bump was. he just couldn't believe his baby was in there, growing beautifully. it was just the most perfect thing. "you are the most beautiful person i've ever seen." you looked up at him and saw him staring right at you, his eyes filled with adoration. your heart swelled as you listened to him.
"stop it" you said, turning your head so you could hide your blush which covered your cheeks. "i'm not kidding, you are so perfect. i love you" he said moving his head so he could place a few kisses on your cheek making you giggle as his beard tickled you. "can you come out with me tomorrow? want you to be at work with me. don't want you to be stuck in here all day by yourself" he let his head rest in your neck with his body just off to the side with his hand resting on your bump, again.
"i'll see how i am, they might keep me up all night and you know how i am when i'm tired" you kissed his head and felt kisses being placed on your neck. before you got pregnant you and tired just didn't mix well and it got even worse ever since you did get pregnant. you didn't mean to be mean but if you were tired you'd become snappy and annoyed very easily.
"god don't remind me" Pedro joked remembering how you snapped at him yesterday because he was just there, he didn't do anything wrong you were just tired and annoyed because the baby didn't let you sleep. "even though you snap at me i still love you so much. my favourite girl" he said, pulling his head out of your neck so he could kiss you. "yeah okay, i love you too" you said smiling at him.
-
Pedro got up before you every single morning just so he knew you'd have your vitamins ready for when you did wake up. it was rare for him to be there when you woke up unless it was a quiet day and he didn't have to work until the afternoon which was when you'd usually go to work with him. it put his mind at ease when he knew you had all your parental vitamins next to you so you wouldn't forget to take them.
he would leave little love notes next to them just letting you know he loved you and that he was proud of you, even if you didn't do anything but sit around all day he was still proud, you were carrying a whole child inside of you and you were coping so well. if it took the stress of you remembering every morning and it made your life a little bit easier he would do it.
as well as love notes he'd send you messages throughout the day just checking in to see if you were alright and if you needed anything. he always made sure he wasn't too far away from the apartment just incase something did happen. today in particular you were in a lot of pain, your back was killing you and so was your legs, just walking around was hurting you.
you had decided to start packing the baby bag just in case something happened you'd be prepared. the baby was kicking constantly and you'd gotten hardly any sleep that night because of the kicking and you just wanted them to be here so you could have a somewhat decent sleep. Pedro always woke up if you shook him, he was the one who could sort of calm the baby down with his talking but sometimes nothing worked.
he would always help you get comfortable before he would rest his head just above your bump so he could whisper to the baby. "need to stop giving your mama a hard time, she needs sleep baby" he would leave little kisses on your bump which made his heart swell with love just because he knew his baby was in there 'responding' to him. "we love you angel but give your mama a break"
it wasn't very often he had to do that but the nights you'd be overly tired from the baby kicking you he would do anything to make you as comfortable as possible. carrying the baby was hard, it felt like you were lugging around a watermelon and it was sometimes so painful you couldn’t even get up to brush your hair. Pedro saw how difficult it was for you when he was home and when he wasn’t there he’d always send you texts saying ‘he was so proud of you’ and that ‘you were doing so well’, the messages, somehow, always made you feel better.
-
it was late and Pedro was on his way home from filming. you were making dinner for the two of you and you were waiting for him to finally come home after a long day doing interviews. you had been craving your favourite pastry from the bakery which wasn’t too far away from your apartment all day. you had tried to get yourself ready but your feet were killing you and so was your back so getting there didn’t happen.
"y/n? i'm home love" you heard Pedro shout and then the door closing behind him. you turned to face the kitchen door and your heart melted once you saw the small bag with the bakery's logo on it. "i got this for you on the way home. i got there just in time, they were about to close" he said as he walked to you.
once he got to you, you wrapped your arms around his waist and placed a small kiss on his chest "how did you know i was craving something from there" you smiled, feeling his arms around you tighten slightly. "i guess i'm a psychic. i had a feeling" he kissed your forehead and rubbed your back before you pulled away, almost forgetting that you were cooking.
"how was today?" you said, your back facing Pedro as you focused on the food. "it was alright, wanted to be here with you though" he replied wrapping his arms around you from behind, making you smile and lean your head back against his shoulder.
"you look so beautiful, so so pretty" he whispered, kissing your cheek which was now a bright red shade. his hand was on your belly, rubbing it gently as your baby kicked. "you're so strong, carrying our baby. you're doing so well sweetheart. so perfect. i'm so lucky to have you" anytime Pedro saw you his heart swelled with love, you were carrying his baby and you looked so beautiful doing so. he couldn't wait for these last two months to pass because it meant he could finally meet your beautiful baby and he was so excited.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
do you think levi would grow his hair out post-war?
idk mahn but the vision of him with a short wolf-ish is really getting to me.
i feel like maybe he’d let it grow accidentally. with the healing process for his knee and the rest of his wounds i feel like he wouldn’t really care about his hair, and you’re totally in for it.
it’s a huge change. for years, you’re used to levi’s neat hair and infamous undercut, and you were 100% into it. but now as he finally lets you cut his hair for him instead of doing it himself, you kinda slowly fix it in a wolf cut and let it grow gradually.
you’d come up with excuses every time he asks you to cut his hair.
“i have so much to do around the house today, my love. maybe tomorrow?”
“oh, i’m on my period today. i can barely stand up.”
“oh! i forgot i have to go get stuff from the market! i’ll be meeting gabi and falco, i can’t be late, can i?”
once he gets frustrated with you, the raven silk was already down to his nape. it shaped his face beautifully, and once you caught him with a pair of scissors in the bathroom, your soul left your body.
“WAIT!” you dash to him, holding down the armed left hand. “you’re not left handed! you wanna ruin your hair??”
“shut up,” he rolls his eyes at you. “you’ve been putting me off for months. look how long it’s gotten!” he gestures with a hand to the mirror in front of you two. “i look hideous.”
you slip the scissors from his hands, and levi catches the little sly smile that slips on your face as you squeeze yourself between his body and the sink.
you watch the realization fall on his face while your hands slip in his hair.
“is this what i get for letting my guard down around you?”
“you look beautiful,” you tell him, love struck as you are, never missing the pink dust that rushes to his cheeks “everyone compliments you for it. you still wanna cut it off again?”
“i don’t give a shit about anyone else.” he grumbles and looks down between you both, leaning on his cane. “i don’t look representable.”
“you don’t have to look representable,” your tone lowers in sincerity. a thumb grazes the scar on the right side of his face. “you’re not a captain anymore, my love. you’re free to do whatever your heart pleases.”
he looks up at you, features blank, but you know well how your words are tossing and turning in his brain.
“besides,” your smile returns back to your face, and you pull him a little closer. “you look extremely hot.” a hand trails down to the hem of his shirt, your eyes following the movement, then you return your gaze back up to him. “like a hot dad.”
his eyebrows shoot up, playfulness making an appearance on the previous stoic features. “like a hot dad?”
“mmhm,” you affirm with a mock-nonchalant nod, and you slip away from him jjjuuust when he was about to pull you in. you look at him over your shoulder, mischief pure in your gaze. “i’ll go check on dinner for the guests coming tonight. feel free to join.”
only except that ten minutes later, the kitchen is completely empty and you two didn’t manage to make it past the living room. he was seated on the sofa, head throw back with his fucking hair framing his delicious expression like that, you swear you could cum untouched in your position between his legs as you get to work.
“like a hot dad, huh?” he mumbles, all breathless and shit once you were seated in his lap, his length stretching you perfectly. a hand reaches up to wipe away the remaining of his previous climax on the corner of your lips. you throw your head in the crook of his neck, the pleasure of your hips rolling skillfully against his hitting you bad. “you could’ve just asked, lovely. wanna make me a daddy?”
you manage a shaky nod when he begins to meet your hips halfway.
a hand trails up from your waist to garb your neck, squeezing deliciously as he pulls you away from his neck to take a good look at you. “words, my love.”
“yes,” you nod, eyes closed in bliss. one of your hands grab the wrist of the hand around your neck. “wan’ make y-you a…hhah… daddy.”
“fffuuck…” he groans out when you squeeze around him, letting himself gather enough strength before he throws you off of him and onto the sofa. when your thighs are squeezed together at the painful loss of contact, a palm falls on one of them, leaving a flushed mark in its wake.
“open wide, baby.” he grabs a hold of his cock while he holds the back of your opening thigh to keep the pair apart. the years upon years in the survey corps leave you as flexible as you can be, so when he presses your thigh back, your joints bend easily at his will. pumping himself a few times as he gazes at your glistening folds, another groan breaks out from deep in his chest.
“god, look at you.” he rolls his hips in, and you feel him slip through so pleasurably that you can’t hold back the loud whimper that escapes you.
because damn, how could you not from this view? this is a face of a determined, pussy-drunk man. sweat broke on his forehead, a few strands sticking to the skin while the rest of his hair falls around his face perfectly. you see a ting of pain on his features, and you scatter to try to change your position for a more comfortable one for him, but he is quickly pushing you back down to the couch, a hand falling to your lower abdomen.
the pressure he puts there makes you forget your own name, and it shows on the way your body shivers with bliss. his thrusts increase in velocity, the maddening roll of his hips against yours throwing you in a whole other dimension.
a hand reaches out to grab yours, and through the dizzying pleasure, you realize that levi is pressing your own hand to your abdomen underneath his.
“look how deep inside am i,” he grumbles, leaning down to press a kiss on your bouncing tits. you feel his length stroke in and out of you the more levi puts pressure on your hand. “taking me so well. always so well, baby.”
he takes control of your hand once more, feeling you squeeze familiarly around him, and he pushes your fingers through his hair. you yank on the strands immediately, pulling out a fucking growl out of the man as he leans down until your chests were touching, putting a bit of his body weight on you for support.
you latch onto him like a koala, the burn of your core muscles stretching as he pushes you in a mating press mixes well with your pleasure-high brain. levi kisses, licks, bites down on your neck to leave marks you’ll have trouble hiding later, but you don’t give a shit. you arch your neck more, letting out a long moan when he nips at a certain spot, the bliss turning you mad.
levi is breathless. his puffs of air fan your face when he brings his face on top of yours. a whimper escapes past his lips, his features twisted with pleasure uncontrollably, and you drown in the sounds he makes.
“wann’ make you a mommy too,” he mumbles, open lips landing on the corner of your lips. “wanna…hhah… fill you up. over,” he pauses, delivering an especially harsh thrust that you feel at your cervix. “and over again.”
“levi, i’m so—,”
your body begins to curl into him, eyes closing uncontrollably, and the poor man barely has any chance to ready himself for the way you tighten impossibly around him as you give him your first climax.
your body shivers and quivers, shaking as he overstimulates you chasing after his own pleasure. he leans back up, hands harshly grabbing your lips as he manages to pull you even deeper, and you tightness milk him.
it isn’t the first time he cums inside you, but this one sure hits different. after a few more thrusts that manage to abuse your cervix, levi stills stiffly with a strong groan, and you feel his warmth coat your walls .
he gives you a few more deep strokes as he leans down to kiss you deeply, making sure he fucks all his load deep enough.
his hips still once more, but you keep devouring his lips. weak moans are erupted from both of you as you two calm down gradually, before levi throws sway your attempts of calming down your still-raging arousal when he pulls away, leans up, and slowly pulls out of you.
and he watches the mixture of both your orgasams begin to pool out of you, and you watch as he takes two fingers to push everything back in. you shamelessly roll your hips against bis digits once more.
he looks up at you, fingers still engulfed, snd a smirk takes over his handsome features.
“one more time for good measures?”

Like you hold the world in your hands, and the stars in your eyes
Sirius Black x reader
Words; 1k+
Warnings; none really, just cursing
The beginning is kinda sketchy but it gets better I think There will be a pt.2, comment if you want to be tagged in it! (and if you want to be tagged in future marauders/harry potter posts, i want to start a tag list) Guys please request things I am begging you, please anything anything anything i need writing ideas
Tumblr media
It had been four days.
Four entire days since I had been pranked by the Marauders, or more specifically, Sirius Black. It had to be a record. However, the streak had just been broken as swiftly walked into the Great Hall, anger radiating off me with red goo covering my body. I marched to the Gryffindor table where three of the Marauders sat, Sirius leaning over James and Remus’ shoulders to gaze at the newspaper
James laughed behind his hand as he watched the me approach and Sirius slapped his back in joy. Oh, how the Black boy loved teasing me.
“Y/n, looking quite gooey there, did you forget to shower this morning?” Sirius asked with a smile as he straightened out his back.
“That’s a shitty insult.” I retorted, tilting my head up to meet the boy's gaze.
“Wasn’t a shitty prank though, was it?”
I pointed at Sirius, lightly poking his chest, “If you or one of your dimwit friends prank me one more time, I will punch you.”
“Do it.” He taunted, his smile turning smug.
Typical. Men always thought they knew everything.
I shrugged, “Alright.” I turned around, pretending to begin to walk away and rolled my eyes at Sirius’ triumphant laugh. I turned around, using my momentum in my fist and in a second Sirius was stumbling back, his hand connected to his nose as blood gushed from it. He looked at me with shock in his eyes and I smiled innocently at him.
“Holy shit.” James said as he rushed to his friend's side.
McGonagall marched down the aisle, “Miss L/n, Mr. Black, detention for both of you. Mr. Potter, do bring him to the infirmary, the blood will stain the ground.”
“What? Why do I get detention? She punched me!” Sirius asked as James helped him up. McGonagall glared at the boy and he looked down, accepting his fate.
“8 AM tomorrow, my office. I will see you two then.”
I tiredly walked into McGonagall's office, yawning the moment I sat in the chair.
“Right on time, Miss L/n. Thank you for your punctuality, a trait your fellow classmate does not possess. Biscuit?”
“Please.” I grabbed one of the biscuits and immediately bit into it, savoring the good taste. “Delicious as always.”
McGonagall smiled, “Glad to hear it.” The door finally opened and Sirius walked in. “Ah, Mr. Black. Five minutes late.”
He flashed her a smile as he grabbed a biscuit, “Sorry, Minnie. A lot goes into this beautiful hair every morning.”
I snorted, “Yeah, a lot of products.”
He touched my hair, “Oh, looks like you still got some goo in your hair. Didn’t wash well enough, I guess.” I slapped away his hand with a glare.
“Children, tread carefully, you're fixing for another detention. Miss L/n-”
“Yes?”
“Have you not visited the infirmary for your knuckles? Madame Pomfrey could heal your bruises.”
“It’s alright. I think it looks good, does it not? It’s my trophy, proof I made Sirius Black bleed.” I winked at him and he rolled his eyes.
“Sadistic bi-”
“I suggest you stop your sentence right there, Mr. Black. Hand me your wands, please.” She asked and I pulled it from my bag, handing it over to her awaiting hand.”
Sirius shrugged, “Sorry, Minnie. Forgot mine in my dorm. Truly a shame. I could go retrieve it now, I’ll be back in just a few moments.”
“You and I know perfectly that you will not be returning. And your wand in your robe pocket. Hand it over now, Mr. Black.”
He sighed and pulled his wand from his robes, “How do you do that?” She didn’t respond. “Seriously! You always know when anyone is lying. It scares me, Minnie.”
“Ah, yes, truly terrifying.” I mocked, rolling my eyes.
He looked over with a glare, “Are we talking about your face right now? Because if so, I agree. It fuels my nightmares.”
“Says you.”
“Both of you, be quiet. I expect my classroom to be free of every speck of dust by dinner. Go, children.”
“So, L/n.” Sirius asked after thirty minutes of cleaning. “You and Greenwood, huh?”
I shook my head, “What?”
“Oh, nothing. Just rumors going around about you and him.”\
“What kind of rumors?” I asked and turned to look at him. He was already looking at me intently.
He smiled, “People say you guys are snogging. Maybe even dating. They say you two are in love with each other.”
I snorted and turned back around, continuing with my dusting. “That’s hilarious.”
“Are you?”
“Am I what?”
“In love, dimwit. Are you in love with Greenwood?”
I paused my actions, seriously thinking over the question, “I’d be his, if he asked.”
“That didn’t answer my question.”
I turned around again, “I owe you no answer. I like him, I’m not sure yet if I love him but if I did you would not be the person I tell.”
He blew out deeply, “Well, if you want my opinion-”
“I don’t.” I said. “I have my own.”
He ignored me and took a step towards me, “Then I believe you deserve someone better. Someone who would treat you like you hold the world in your hands and the stars in your eyes.”
I hesitated, “And who would that be?”
He took another step forward and I tilted my head to meet his gaze. I shuddered as his breath fanned over my face. What is he doing?
He gently placed his hand on my cheek, “You would deserve better, but me. I would treat you like the world in your hands and the stars in your eyes. I would treat you like you have the ocean's vigor in your voice and natures beauty in your mind. I would treat you so much better than he would.”
My breath quickened and I took a step back as my mind went into panic mode. I quickly grabbed my bag and robe.
“I’m sorry, Sirius. I just- I can’t.” I said quickly and walked out of the classroom, deciding I’ll pick my wand up from McGonagall's office later.
I raced to the Gryffindor common room and quickly muttered the password.
“L/n, you’re back early? Where’s Sirius? Did you kill him?” James asked as I passed by him and the other two Marauders, I stopped to look at them, still in shock. James sat comfortable on the sofa as Remus and Peter played chest. Remus looked at me with his brows furrowed.
“Are you alright, Y/n?” Remus asked. Remus and I had always been close, his mom and mine being best friends, it’s a shame his friends suck.
“Y-you look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Peter mentioned, also looking at me in worry. Okay, Peter’s not that bad. (Not yet.)
“I-” I swallowed and nodded. “I’m fine. Goodbye.” I said and walked up the stairs to my dorm.
When I opened the door three heads snapped my way.
“Y/n?” Lily asked.
“You’re done with detention already?” Dorcas asked as her girlfriend, Marlene, looked up from her lap.
“Are you alright, babe?”
“What did Sirius do this time?” Lily questioned.
“I think- I think he confessed his love to me?”

‘kay we got a lot of Ethan being ghostface and all— but what if it was the other way around hm? Here’s the idea:
Reader is ghostface who is anonymous and neither detective Bailey, Quinn, or Ethan know who they are —
But reader is a lot more violent — so when Sam asks: “so who was the other one that attacked us?“ And they don’t know who she’s talking about until the reader appears as ghostface and they’re all surprised who’s under the mask.
Let me know if this makes any sense 😭
A/N: Ghostface reader...? SIGN ME TF UP A/N: Got a little confused because i was like, 'how is this going to work if none of them know who the reader is...' A/N: So Im thinking...WHAT ABOUT AN OG READER WHO WENT A LITTLE, YK, MAD? A/N: Reader is an OG who reveals themselves as ghostface and everyone is shocked because no one has seen them for years...YEA?? A/N: Btw, I forget some parts of the movie so i had to makeshift things and make them make sense but idk if i did a good job A/N: Ngl, i literally forgot half the lines they said in the movie too so i had to improvise
My Return...

"Ethan, Bailey...?" Sam eyed the other masked figure. "Mindy...?" The figure shook their head and pulled the mask off of their face. "Quinn.." Tara shook her head. "You're dead though..." Quinn chuckled. "It was all an act!" Tara backed up into the nearby brick, feeling the brick be loose.
"You're all crazy..." Ethan shrugged. "We prefer the term psychotic," Sam shook her head. "It was you three...the subway, the apartment, that goddamn old building!" Quinn, Bailey, Ethan quirked an eyebrow. "What building?" Bailey asked while pointing his gun furhter into Sam's direction. "What..?" Bailey rolled his eyes. "What building, Sam?"
Quinn raised a finger. "Hold on. We never attacked them at the old building," Ethan nodded. "Then who..?"
"Surprise..."
Tara and Sam swiftly turned around to meet another Ghostface, one that felt...off.
"Who the hell are you?!" Quinn shouted. "Is that a way to treat someone who has more experience with Ghostface than you ever will?" Quinn scoffed. "Who. The. Fuck. Are. You?" She repeated.
"Well, if you insist..." The unknown Ghostface slowly took off their mask, revealing...you. "[Name?]" All of their eyes widened. You, an OG, who had gone through for much shit trying to survive from Ghostface becomes Ghostface itself?
They all sat there in silence. When finally processed, Ethan, and Quinn feel a burst of excitement coarse through their bodies, an OG...helping them?!
"So you've been helping them...?" Tara grip tightened on the brick. "Helping them? Oh, no, darlin'. Im just doing this for fun. Im quite tired of being the prey, so why not the predator?" Their excitement died down.
"All those years of running away from Ghostface, and being betrayed by others. I just thought, 'well why not reverse the cards for a bit,' hm?" You laughed. "And oh, how right i was. this has been fun!" You turned to the three other Ghostface. "You three make good Ghostface, but not as good as Billy, Stu, and the others."
Hearing that gave Ethan somewhat of a boost of confidence. "Where's Richie in that list?" Quinn asked. "Richie? Oh...he was the worst Ghostface Ive seen," you slowly spat, enjoying provoking them. "So pathetic," Sam starts and you watch her, amused.
"Thats not true," Bailey retorted. "Yea. Your son, he is a man-baby, let his girlfriend do all the killing..." Bailey had gotten even more furious by the second. "Shes right," Quinn pointed her knife at you. "You, you stay out of this!" You only snickered in response.
"He was a strong, feral young man!" Bailey's voice cracks. "He was a limp-dick little fuck, who cried before i slit his throat." Bailey was one second from pulling the trigger, but before that happened, Sam had ran over to your side, missing the bullet.
Tara charged at Quinn, hitting her face with a brick. She fell backwards. "Damn," you moved backwards. You smirked, before swiftly walking up behind Bailey, kicking him in the back so he fell. "What?! " You crouched down, grabbing the gun and tossing it Sam.
Ethan began chasing Tara, while Sam busied herself with Quinn. Tara was running from Ethan, climbing away from him. "I've always wanted to stick something in you, Tara!" Tara turns around while Ethan Sticks his knife up. "Fuck you!" Tara shouted. "Fuck you!" Ethan shouted back.
"Gotcha!" You hear Ethan catch up with Tara after a few minutes. She screams before shoving a knife down his throat, twisting it while a smile grin ghosted over he face. "You're dying a virgin," He screams in pain while eating that knife.
You pulled out your knife before stabbing Bailey in chest, over and over after keeping him down with your foot. Bailey put up a fight, tackling you while you tackled him back.
You heard a crash, only to see Ethans head under a TV. "Shit looks like that hurts..." QUinn screamed at the sight of her father and bother being murdered. SHe charges at Sam, who puoints the gun at Quinn. "Looks like your down another brother."
Quinn's body fails down, after being shot in the head by Sam. Sam turned around, to meet you, but by the time she did, you were gone. "where did they...?" Tara shrugged at Sam, both of them just standing in silence.

Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

Fandom: Soul Eater
Character(s): Spirit Albarn, Franken Stein, mentions of Kami
Tag(s): Hurt/Comfort, Age Regression (SFW), Men Crying, Mental Instability, Stuffed Toys, Cuddling & Snuggling, Fluff & Angst
Word Count: 2 710
Summary: Stein sees a T-Rex stuffed animal, regresses before and after being allowed to purchase it, and shit also happens to hit the fan, because I don’t write for happy people LMAO
Note(s): I finally wrote more age regression like I said I would. I don’t like this a whole lot either, but I’m planning on writing some longer and better things, so hopefully that will happen. I am just posting this and Muse of Tragedy, because these are ideas I’ve had in my head for a long time that I simply never wrote. So, here!
The vivid, fluorescent lighting of the quaint drugstore left Stein internally grimacing, keeping his limbs close to his frame as to make himself seem smaller and further away from the blaring stimulus.
Going in one ear and out the other was the apparently endless rambling of Spirit, as he went on and on about Kami, and Valentine’s Day, and how he nearly forgot, and how he just has to buy her the cutest teddy bear ever. Franken merely hummed in response, scanning the aisles both curiously and indifferently, bored and more than prepared to exit the store.
As they, at long last, arrived at the line of shelves filled with stuffed-toys, particularly bears and rabbits holding non-anatomically correct hearts (Stein would much prefer to see anatomically correct heart candies) and lollipops, the meister spotted the best thing in the entire drugstore; a medium-sized Tyrannosaurus-Rex, greenish-brown in color, and without the glass eyes that left him suspecting whether or not it came equipped with a built-in camera.
Albarn grabbed on his chosen teddy, beginning to march away from the aisle and to the checkout area, as he glanced over at Stein conspicuously gazing longingly at a stuffed dinosaur, not moving, simply staring. The glint in his partner’s eyes was almost cute; childishly curious and desiring.
“Stein?” He called out. And before he could ask the boy whether or not he wanted him to buy the stuffed animal (he looked too intrigued by the toy to deny him of it), Franken turned towards him, not verbally requesting the stuffy, instead, pointing at it with an expectant and hopeful look to his countenance. He appeared as though he was preparing for disappointment, or to be yelled at. He honestly seemed to expect overly negative reactions rather often - too often - and something about that sent a pang of sorrow down Spirit’s tired spine. He’d never seen him look so childlike and tiny before.
Now he really couldn’t say no.
“You wanna get it?” Stein clumsily nodded his head once, a dramatic motion of his head as he pursed his lips slightly. “I didn’t think you were the type to like plushies. But sure, go ahead and grab it.”
“Dinosaur,” the meister said, holding the animal to his chest, moving to walk beside his weapon-partner, not ceasing his intense and elated staring content with it.
“Oh, yeah. You do like dinosaurs and all that science-y shit, so, I guess that makes sense,” the weapon shrugged his shoulders, grabbing it briefly from Stein, as he scanned the toy. The silver-haired boy seemed to subdue a pout, returning to his former blank state. “You want it back, right?” Spirit returned it into Franken’s hands, placing the bear he bought into a plastic bag, paying for the items.
“Thank you,” Stein mumbled, not exactly smiling, though the corners of his mouth were more upturned than usual.
“Yeah, I don’t mind,” he felt more like something of a parental figure to him everyday, or at the very least, when his partner would begin acting… like whatever this was. But the meister’s policy was ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell,’ so interrogating him about his quirks would more than certainly get him nowhere. “You don’t have to pay me back or anything, by the way. Knowing you, though, you’d definitely find some sneaky-ass way to never pay me even if I wanted you to. You’ve done it before, you bastard! So, I know for a fact you would!”
Stein giggled mischievously in a hushed voice, Spirit joyfully smiling and chuckling to himself as he listened to it. He hadn’t heard the male really laugh in a long while, he’d seemed rather morose and sort of lacking in any and all emotion as of late - even more so than typical, which he frankly didn’t think was even possible. And for what reason his partner was behaving more overtired and flat, the ginger did not know.
They exited the drugstore, Stein seeming more relieved in a sense as they were shrouded in the shadows of the night, the desert air much cooler than just a few hours ago.
<——————————————————>
Stein plopped swiftly down onto the sofa with his prized plushie, Spirit sitting beside him and placing the lovey-dovey teddy bear onto the coffee table, where the tissue paper and gift bag happened to be located.
Whilst writing thoughtful sweet-nothings on the sparkly and shiny card he had bought a little while back, he made repeated glances at his partner, of whom was merely sitting and staring into space, a more petulant, yet deadpan twinge to his countenance.
He looked awfully squeezable, however, with his stuffy tucked against his sternum, his knees holding the toy even closer. Perhaps this newfound affectionate feeling he didn’t think he’d ever feel towards Stein would dissipate once the meister said anything about ripping someone limb from limb.
“You okay over there?” He chortled, his brows pinching together in mild concern as he signed the glimmering card, placing it into the bag along with the heart and candy-holding bear.
Franken remained particularly unresponsive and immobile, it was almost as though he was entirely zoned-out of life itself, not present in the room with Spirit. Though there was something stirring within him, he could see it in his exhausted and narrow eyes, they were both decomposing and lively simultaneously in a way that only Stein could achieve.
“Hey. Did you hear me?” Albarn poked his arm, only to receive nothing back.
He inched closer to his partner, untucking and lifting Stein’s arm from the stuffed T-Rex as gently as he could, as to hopefully not startle him. Though, perhaps if he were to startle him, he’d scare him out of his current stupor.
As he raised his appendage, he moved it up and down almost playfully, stopping and leaving it to hang right in the middle. And his arm did not fall.
Spirit rose an eyebrow in the face of this strange behavior; Stein had gotten like this before - he’d refuse to speak, and would either move too much, not too much, or very robotically. But he had never done this before.
Albarn simply stared at the unmoving arm for a moment, confused and worried, not even noticing the salty tear falling from his meister’s right eye, or the way his chest made abrupt movements as noiseless sobs escaped him.
He gazed upwards, eyes widening at the sight before him, as he marginally began to panic.
“What’s wrong, Stein? Don’t cry,” he hadn’t realized before how much the sight of his counterpart weeping would both upset him and frighten him. “Was it something I did? I’ll never touch you without asking again, how about that? Please don’t cry.”
Spirit’s eyes flicked all over the room as he pondered how in the world he could possibly comfort his meister. He’d never seen him cry before, how was he supposed to know?
“Na’ yu,” Stein murmured under his breath, his tone sounding pained as though it was his first time attempting to speak.
“Not me? It wasn’t me, then? Can I touch you?” Spirit reached his arms out, retracting them, only to flail them outwards once more.
He didn’t reply again, instead focusing on trying to relearn how to move his body, desiring to position his arm back into its former place.
Spirit noticed this, grabbing his arm and moving it to tuck around his plushie just how it was before.
“T’an’ yu,” he whispered out slowly, mechanically.
“Of course,” the weapon reesponded with a polite smile, looking around the room one more time, before just pulling his partner over to him, essentially sitting him on his lap, shoving his head into the crook of his anxious neck.
This more than certainly alarmed Stein, his eyes bulging, as he acted on instinct - squirming and writhing out of his grasp.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. I didn’t mean to freak you out, I’m sorry,” he shushed his perturbation in the sweetest voice he could possibly muster. Stein sat up, perched on his thighs, as his bottom lip seemed to quiver lightly in response to his former statement. More tears bubbled up in his eyes, spilling over, as the scientist shoved himself right back to where the redhead had originally pushed him, choking on pitiful sobs.
“Shh…… I’m sorry. This is all so.. not you, I just don’t know what to do - I’m sorry,” he held his head, thinking to himself ‘Well, at least he moved for the first time in however many minutes he hadn’t.’ Spirit soothingly rubbed up and down his back, his nails dragging along empathetically. “And I know you never tell anyone anything.. You don’t have to tell me what’s wrong. I know this must be really scary already, isn’t it?”
Stein had evidently lost control of himself. It was clear as day to anyone that he had unwillingly began blubbering, as he repeatedly attempted to hush himself up, his efforts ultimately proving to be in vain.
He nodded his head in agreement with the weapon’s question, as he sniffled into Albarn’s shirt, his hands still maintaining their iron grip on the stuffed toy.
“Yeah, I know it is,” Franken was seriously the absolute last person he expected to be coddling. “I’m so sorry. I don’t know what’s going on with you, but I’m sorry. I’m always here, okay? You don’t have to tell me anything, but if you need to, you always can. Whatever was happening earlier didn’t look too comfortable or fun.”
Stein hummed in agreement once more, the noise reverberating within his overtired throat, as he huffed out another sob.
He brought one of his hands to his face, placing his thumb in his mouth, gently suckling on it, as his chest bumped up and down due to the suppressed wailing.
While it was a considerably strange thing for a teenager to do, Spirit couldn’t care less what Stein found tranquillizing, so long as it helped him.
“It’s okay to cry, Stein. I’m not judging you. I’m not gonna hurt you, I promise. You’re stubborn, so I know you won’t believe me, but I’m not gonna tell anyone, I swear,” he tenderly attempted to reassure the meister.
That only sent more tears running down his flushed face, as Stein glanced cautiously up at the ginger, whimpering into his finger.
Spirit grinned down at him, whispering, “You don’t have to believe a word I say, okay? I can see it in your eyes,” he adoringly flicked Stein’s forehead. “I don’t know what exactly is so hard for you, but I can see it’s hard for you. Stop arguing with yourself in there. Stop thinking about whatever it is for a minute. How about we play with your little dinosaur?”
He snuffled, lazily and begrudgingly removing his face from his weapon’s neck, making his stuffy more visible to the both of them.
As he did as such, Albarn could get a much better look at his blotchy, tear-stained face, a pout stretching his poor lips.
“Do you have a name for it yet?” Spirit prodded softly, restricting the urge to fondly crush the male he had seated on his femurs, as he stared shyly down at the dinosaur.
When he received no response, he assured, “You don’t have to speak, that’s okay. We can just play with it, or do whatever you want to do with it… Except dissecting it!” He earned another precious titter from Stein.
The meister held the T-Rex up to Spirit’s doting face, the ginger patting it jestingly on the head.
Stein chuckled, sniffling a bit once more, as he patted the scythe on his own head.
“Top hat,” the aspiring scientist vaguely spoke.
“What about a top hat?” He confusedly questioned.
The giggly meister pointed at the dinosaur’s head, staring inquisitively at his weapon, trying his best to temporarily forget about the bickering and the static and the inevitable.
“Oh, I see! We should get a top hat for your T-Rex, shouldn’t we?” Stein nodded his head, biting on his bottom lip in thought.
“‘N f’r you,” he elucidated, slurring his words in a baby-ish voice.
“Oh, really? Wouldn’t I just look dashing in one?” Spirit said in an overly and theatrically elegant manner, his visage contorting into a rather silly expression, leaving Stein to grin.
“No,” he was a menace, but at least he was honest.
The redhead feigned taking offense to his utter brutality, fake-crying with a hand on his chest. Franken heartily laughed, or rather, sadistically, and yet innocently, concurrently.
Abruptly, his giggles ceased, as a deep and troubled sigh escaped his lips, his countenance falling and returning to its earlier indiscernible oddity.
Spirit’s did just the same, his brows furrowing as he solicitously studied the meister’s body language and face.
“What is it, sweetheart?” He was hoping to Death that he would enjoy being referred to with touchy-feely nicknames in the state he was currently in, and that they’d relax him somewhat.
“Top hats and your dinosaur can’t really distract you, huh?” Stein sat still, blankly staring down at the stuffed toy. “That bad?” He nodded.
“Is there anything I can do?” His eyes watered once again as he processed the question being asked, moving his head from side to side, as he wanted nothing more than to forbid the tears from rolling.
“Not’ing,” he mewled. “I can’t ev’n do not’ing.”
“Aw,” he brought Stein in once again, warmly hushing his bawling. “I’m sorry you’re feeling so fussy, baby.”
Franken immediately looked up at Spirit, his eyes switching from wide-set at first to squinted and glazed over, his fingers immediately making their way back to his mouth, as his previously taut figure melted into the weapon’s chest.
“F’ssy,” he shakily repeated, hiccuping.
“Yeah, fussy,” Stein nuzzled into this shoulder, one arm holding his dinosaur, the other wrapping around his partner and gripping his shirt, as he sniveled even more so.
“Shh, shh, it’s okay.. It’ll be okay, Stein.”
“Won’,” he denied in a voice Spirit found it difficult not to coo at.
“Even if that’s the case, I’m always here, okay? You know that right?”
“M’no.”
Spirit delicately scratched at his scalp, primping his unkempt hair. “Hm…. That’s okay. I guess I’ll just have to show you, then, huh?”
“Don’ think I can live much longer,” he stumbled over his words, unsteadily speaking. “Na’ able.”
Albarn’s expression gave in to his sullen feelings, as he patted Stein’s back, rocking them both from side to side.
“No, you can make it through, you’re strong,” he encouraged the boy.
“You don’ get it,” he yowled. “Na’ my choice. Can’ do not’ing ad’all.”
Spirit continued to shush him, as that was all he could do, petting his hair, stroking his back, ensuring him that he’d always be there.
“‘M all gone. Bye-bye,” it was difficult to make much sense of what he was saying, but there was something at the bottom of the scythe’s soul that almost could grasp it.
<——————————————————>
Eventually, Stein’s eyes sluggishly closed, though he tried eagerly to hold them open. His sobs died down, his sniffling coming to a close, as he no longer babbled.
Spirit peered down at the male’s face, sympathizing with him as he witnessed how swollen and red his eyes were, his eyelashes doused in teardrops, cheeks completely damp. Even his neck was moist with the droplets that flowed downwards.
The weapon carefully and attentively pushed the meister’s bangs out of the way, caressing the side of his face perceptible to him, as he tucked the loose and free hair behind his ear.
“Please tell me what’s wrong,” he muttered, disquieted by the whole ordeal. “I hope you can learn to trust me. I’m sure that won’t be easy, though, huh? You’ve never trusted anyone your life, have you?”
And he hadn’t. That much was evident.
As he held Franken’s body in his arms, he didn’t dare to move, even as he groaned and whimpered in a distressed and distraught manner in his sleep.
Was he supposed to wake him? Or would that only prove to make him more fussy and irritable?
He never knew what he was meant to do when it came to Stein.
He could only pray that one day he’d finally figure the meister out.

A Moment Backstage

Relationship: Sami/Jey Rating: Gen Summary: Sami and Jey share an interaction backstage before the Tag Title Rematch (set during Nov 13th 2023 Monday Night Raw) -- Did I have several other things to write? yes but this just would not leave me alone, so here we are.

Jey paces backstage, headphones over his ears blasting music as he pumps himself up for the tag match. What ifs and worries plague his mind and he’s restless about not just the tag team rematch tonight but the Wargames match ahead of them.
Finn and Damien had been trying to eg them on earlier, Sami was right about that, but all the things they said had been true, especially about him. Jey has betrayed every single one of his current team members in the name of his cousin and his family.
He’s been plagued by this issue ever since his return and debut on Monday Night Raw, the mistakes of his past refusing to leave him be. All the things he’d never really wanted to do that Roman had made him do anyway.
His mind flashes to Elimination Chamber, the clip they’d showed last week of him with a chair in hand, tears dripping from his eyes and falling onto the mat as Roman screamed at him. In the end he couldn’t do it, couldn’t take the chair to Sami in the same way he’d done to KO. But he wasn’t brave enough to put the chair in Roman’s back either. A failure on both accounts.
Sami had waved it off, said it was all in the past now, but sometimes when Jey looks at him all he sees are those moments. Flowers strewn across the ring from the tattered lei, red like blood against the canvas as Sami turns to him with tears in his eyes. Watching his brothers attack Sami as if the last year never happened.
Jey wipes a hand over his eyes as if that will wash the painful memories away, thinks about retrieving his water bottle from wherever he’s left it this time, trying to get back out of his head. Sami appears in the locker room before him, the soft smile on his face a hard contrast to the anguish in his memories.
“Hey, my dawg!” Sami says cheerfully, “Just wanted to-oh!”
Jey cuts him off by pulling him in for a tight hug and not letting go. The waves of emotion that had swelled since the top of the show threatening to overtake him as he clutched Sami to him.
“M’sorry, Uce. I’m sorry-“ Jey mumbles into the crook of Sami’s shoulder, keeping his face hidden for what it might show. “Never wanted t’hurt you.”
Sami’s arms wrap around to hold Jey just as tightly, and the ginger laughs nervously. “Hey, hey now- s’okay Jey. What’s this about?” His hands press against Jey’s shoulders to make some space between them but they stay there as to not let him get away.
Jey sniffles and rubs a hand on his face, trying to be discreet as he wipes the tears away. “I dunno, Uce, just thinkin’” He shakes his head. “‘Bout what those guys was sayin’ earlier. I did a lot of messed up shit, and like Cody n’ I talked it out right? And the stuff wit’ Seth is whatever, don’ really care what that guy thinks…”
“They were trying to mess with us, Jey. Don’t let them get in your head.” Sami’s face is soft, and the understanding look in his eyes is doing nothing to assuage Jey’s guilt.
“Sami, I messed up wit’ you. Big time.” Jey struggles to find words. “I was- nah you was the best thing that ever happened to me, Uce. Me n’ Jimmy was champs but being Roman’s pawn was eatin’ at me and I wasn’t good. M’not gonna apologize again for how I was actin’ before Wargames cause I know you ain’t gonna hear it, we past that. But Elimination Chamber? And all those months before Wrestlemania?” Jey hung his head in shame.
One of Sami’s hands moves to the nape of Jey’s neck and it’s all he can do not to lean into the warm touch. “Jey, I don’t blame you for that. You were in a tough spot, you were protecting Jimmy, I understand.”
He doesn’t and it hurts. “You don’ know, Sami. How hard that was. Seein’ you with KO, and feelin’ like I should hate you but I couldn’t cause you was right. And that night that I came back? I wanted to pick you so bad, Uce. I just- I couldn’t.” Jey lifts his head again to meet Sami’s eyes. “I just- I’m sorry.”
Sami’s face is unreadable, and he takes a moment to respond.
“I forgive you,” He finally responds. “I forgive you and I’m sorry too. I didn’t make that easy, I mean everybody told me I should leave you alone and I just couldn’t.” Sami bites his lip.
Jey feels the weight he’s been carrying for all these months fall off his shoulders. “You never gave up on me.”
Sami pulls Jey back into his arms and claps him on the back. “Never, my dawg.”
Jey stares as Sami releases him, the swirl of emotions in his head clouding his judgement as his gaze falls from Sami’s eyes to the flushed pink of his chapped lips. And for a moment he lets himself think about how good those lips would feel against his own.
He shakes the thought away, unwilling to jeopardize the progress he’s made tonight. “Me n’ Cody gonna kick Judgement Days asses but… I’d feel better knowin’ you’d have my back.”
“Even though I can’t be out there tonight, I always got your back, Jey.”
For a second Jey thought he caught Sami’s eyes dropping to his lips and his heart leapt but that same second Cody appears in the doorway.
“Ey Uce, it’s go time.”
Sami coughs and takes a step back. “I uh- I gotta head out,” He touches Jey’s chest playfully. “You’re gonna do great.”
The action, one both of them had done countless times, is charged with energy.
“See you after?” He keeps his voice neutral as he steps backwards toward Cody.
Sami nods, “We’ll celebrate with waffles!”
Jey walks out the door and follows Cody down the corridor towards gorilla.
“You ready for this?”
Jey nods, and for the first time all evening, he believes it.

"Ah, fudge!", John said, facepalming. They had just walked back into the changing room after their ice-hockey training.
"What's up?", Mike asked.
"Forgot my helmet at the rink. I'll be right back!"
John rushed out, grabbed his helmet from the bench right next to the ice, straightened up and-
dropped the helmet. It bounced a few times on the ice. It made loud thuds.
"Watson! You alright?", a voice from somewhere on John's left hand side yelled.
"Yeah, Greg, just forgot my...", John's eyes were fixed on the boy on the ice rink. It was a figure skater. A really beautiful figure skater. "Um..." His skating was... beautiful. His face was beautiful. In fact everything about him was beautiful. "My uh..."
The skater finished a flawless pirouette, in a half sitting position, his leg stretched out. How is that even- Wait- why did he stop- oh my god. Is he coming- what- wait that's-
"Your helmet?", the figure skater asked with a kind smirk on his lips. A kind smirk?! What the hell is a kind smirk?!
"Sorry- what?", John asked, after his brain finally registered that the figure skater had said something.
"You forgot your helmet?"
"I- uh... Yeah- I-", John let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding. He half recognized Greg smirking at him, bemused.
"Do you wanna go-", a side glance at his friend proved his suspicion. He didn't care. "On a..." Damn, this guy has gorgeous eyes. John gulped. "Date? With me?" Where did that question come from?
The boy raised his eyebrows. "Is that it?"
"Is that what?", John countered.
"We only just met. And we're gonna go on a date."
Oh, shit. He hadn't been thinking. He had just spoken. Come on, Watson. Get a grip! Confidence! Confidence is everything! "Problem?", John asked, feeling himself grin (hopefully convincingly).
The skater bandied looks with Greg, bemused as well as amused. He shifted his weight on one hip, then looked John up and down. "We don't know a thing about each other. I don't know where we're meeting. I don't even know your name."
Oh, right. Awkwardly John fumbled with his helmet, stuck it under his left arm, so he could extend his right, "John Watson. Speedy's. Tomorrow night at six P.M.?"
The boy shook his hand, with a suspicious eye. "Sherlock. And fine. But only because you're cute when you're flustered."
"Why- I am not-"
"See? Cute. See you tomorrow.", and Sherlock glided off the ice. There was a certain swing in his hips that made John drop his eyes...
"What. on earth. was that?", Greg asked with a disbelieving chuckle.
"That, Greg", John sucked in a breath. "Was me realizing, there's no way in hell I am straight." John said, still staring at the door through which the beautiful figure skater had left.

“Nile…,” your tone was lethally calm as you stood in the doorway of the editor’s office. Anger was buzzing through your veins and you were attempting to keep it contained, but when he refused to look up at you the cord snapped and you stepped inside his office, shutting the door firmly behind you.
“What the hell did you say to Annie? She just left my office practically telling me she was firing you and I would like to know why?”
He only bothered to give you a glance over his glasses before turning his attention back to his monitor and typing who knew what. “All I said was her next chapter was due.”
“And?” Your hands balled into fists at your sides and you took a steadying breath when he glanced up at you again.
“And that it better not be shit like the last one.” He muttered the words and said them in a single breath as he averted his gaze again back to the computer screen.
“You did not tell her that her last chapter was shit,” you said in absolute disbelief. But by the way he refused to meet your eyes you knew that he was telling the truth. And from your last encounter with Annie, who was absolutely furious, you knew he definitely said those words to her.
“To be fair,” he began defensively, “it was sloppy writing. It felt rushed and incomplete. We both know her writing is much better than that.”
“While I understand where you’re coming from and yes, that may not have been her best work, you should never tell our clients that their new writing is shit, Nile.”
He shrugged, which infuriated you, and then said, “I see where you’re coming from and I’ll apologize, but I can’t take you too seriously with that heart headband on.”
You felt your eye twitch, and you wanted to laugh, but you couldn’t manage the sound. Mostly because you forgot the stupid headband was even on your head, courtesy of Marco, for Valentine’s day. When you shifted your chin to glare at him, the springs moved with you and you felt just as ridiculous as you knew you looked. Especially to Nile.
“Apologize to her,” you ground out between your teeth, “today, Nile.” Before turning towards the door and storming off. You distantly heard a scoff from his office and you couldn’t decipher if he was amused or rather annoyed with your tone.
Instead of going to your office, you made a beeline for Moblit’s, whose door was thankfully open.
“I’m quitting,” you said before you had the time to even shut the door.
“Well, hi,” he replied, leaning back in his chair as you plopped down into the brown leather armchair he had across his desk. “Sure, have a seat. I wasn’t busy or anything.”
“Nile is going to the absolute death of me. I cannot stand his ass,” you complained, huffing out a loud breath and sulking further in the seat.
“I like your headband,” Moblit said, smugly entertained on the other side of his desk. You yanked it off of your head and threw it at him, watching as it hit his chest and fell somewhere beneath his desk.
“What did he do now?” He tried again, this time appeasing your childish behavior.
“The idiot told Annie that the last chapter she submitted was shit. Who says that?!”
“Well, he’s never really been one to mince his words. He’s always been like that. Honestly,” he chuckled, shaking his head as the laugh shook his shoulders, “you should ask Erwin what happened between them in college.”
“Ew, I forget you all know each other,” you grumbled, remembering that Moblit briefly mentioned that Nile and Erwin have known each other since high school. “I’m not sure I even want to know.”
“Oh, you do. Trust me,” he giggled like a teenager which captured your curiosity even though you hid it beneath an eye roll.
Tumblr media
You prepared dinner that evening. You left the office an hour earlier than usual and stopped at the grocery store to pick some ingredients up before texting the guys to come over at around 7. It was cold out and you had a long week and it was only Wednesday, so you were itching for something comforting. You decided on a pot roast, popping it into the oven as soon as you could since it would take at least two hours to bake.
In the meantime you tidied up the house, showered, and prepped the sides all while waiting for Levi and Erwin to come over. You heard the key turn in the lock, remembering how you had given them your spare when you accidentally locked yourself out a few weeks ago. They rarely used it, though, because most of the time you were always setting up camp at their place. You finished mashing the potatoes when you heard Erwin’s voice first.
“We brought the good stuff,” he called, kicking off his shoes at your door and hanging his keys on the hook hung on the wall.
“And what exactly is the good stuff?” You laughed, turning off the stovetop and pushing the potatoes on a cool burner.
“Wine,” he held up a bottle, “obviously, but also,” he pulled out a tin container from his sweats pocket, shaking it at you excitedly.
“Did you guys go to the dispensary?” You reached over and grabbed the container from his fingers, sliding the top open to reveal five pre-rolled joints. “Since when did y’all smoke?”
“Hardly ever,” Levi replied, slipping around you in the kitchen to peek into the oven. “This guy was in the mood today. Said it would be fun with you.”
“Only if you want to.” Erwin held up his hands, smiling that playful grin at you that always had you agreeing to anything he said. And the closer you became, the harder it was to even argue with him.
“Hell yeah,” you chuckled, plucking a joint from the tin and rummaging around your junk drawer for a lighter. Once you found it, you gave them to Erwin to light whenever he wanted and turned around to open the little window above your kitchen sink so that the smoke had somewhere to travel to, instead of being concentrated in the house.
“Right in time for dinner too,” you smiled, untying the apron from around your waist and pulling the loop over your head. The smell hit your nose before you noticed that he even sparked it, meanwhile Levi grabbed some oven mitts to pull the pot roast from the oven after the timer went off. You each took a hit as you waited for the roast to cool enough for it to be shredded. The slight high was already warming through you and creating a fuzziness at the corner of your eyes. When you grabbed the large forks to start tearing the meat apart, Erwin snatched the utensils from you to do it, instead. Levi passed the joint to you then to replace the forks that were once in your hands prompting you to inhale deeply a few more times allowing the drug to relax into your muscles and empty your mind.
“This is exactly what I needed tonight,” you said, smiling over at Erwin as you watched his biceps flex beneath his sleeves.
“Oh yeah?” He teased, piercing a carrot chunk and moving it out of his way.
“Mhmm, long day,” you responded, holding the joint out to him, expecting him to free one of his hands and take it from you. Instead he surprised you, much like he always did. He leaned down towards your outstretched hand, bringing his lips to the filter, lightly grazing your fingertips and wetting them slightly from the way he just licked his lips. Your face warmed, your body buzzed, and familiar desire coursed harshly down where his lips met your fingers to the pit of your stomach. He inhaled, eyes staying locked with yours as he took an exceptionally deep drag. You felt frozen in place, your mouth parting as you stared at him. His eyelids were heavy, pupils blown out, and cheeks were a pretty pink from the steam rising from the heat of the roast. You couldn’t even blink, your high intensifying as Erwin held you in place for what seemed like hours. Only for the moment to be broken when he pulled away and turned to blow the smoke from his lungs over his shoulder. You swallowed dryly, the saliva gone from your mouth the higher you got.
“What happened?” He asked, placing the utensils on the plate you had sitting on the counter beside the stove. Your brain buffered, your thoughts still stuck on the way his lips felt against your skin. You shook your head to clear it, but when you looked up at him again the image came flooding back into your vision and something tensed deep in your gut, forcing your breath to catch in your throat.
“Your day,” he said, leaning against the counter as he looked to Levi who was gathering bowls from the cabinet.
You coughed in realization, extending the joint to Levi who shook his head to indicate he’d had enough. “Nothing much, just Nile being an ass like always.”
Levi snickered at that, his scowl gone and replaced by soft features and upturned lips. You almost felt crazy because you swore they looked way more attractive now then they ever had. Softness and content controlled their gestures and motions, both of them graceful and solid in form, and you began to imagine what it would feel like to be sandwiched firmly between them.
“He really has always been an ass, hasn’t he?” Erwin shook his head in memory, serving the bowls with food when Levi handed them to him. You took a step away, the distance feeling necessary before you got overwhelmed by feelings you refused to allow to linger at the surface for too long.
“He’s never been an ass to me,” Levi shrugged, pouring drinks as he said it.
“Because you’re also an ass,” Erwin replied, handing you a full bowl of food and gesturing for you to take it to the couch where you always ate dinner when it was held at your place.
“That reminds me,” you started, opening the silverware drawer at your hip to grab a set of forks, “Moblit told me to ask about what happened between you two in college. He wouldn’t tell me because he loves to leave people hanging all the fucking time.”
“Of course he did,” Levi said, following you to your sofa and placing the wine glasses he carried impressively in one hand between strong fingers that your eyes stared at for longer than was appropriate. You curled up in your designated corner with Levi sat to the right of you towards the center cushion. “Erwin loves telling this story,” he added sarcastically, Erwin appearing then with two bowls and handing one off to Levi as he sat on the floor between you and Levi’s legs.
“Ah yes because my teen heartbreak is so fun to tell,” he said, bottom lip jutting out.
“You see,” Levi looked over at you with an exasperated expression and you couldn’t help but giggle as you handed each of them a fork.
“Well now I’m really curious.” You took a bite of your food, shifting so that you were facing Erwin with your legs crisscrossed on the couch.
“It really isn’t as crazy as it sounds,” he started before retelling a story of his past that spanned nearly a decade, including a love triangle, and infidelity. “So, yeah, have I spoken to Nile since he slept with Marie when we were 19 and she was my girlfriend? No. But no hard feelings.”
“You and Nile dated the same girl,” you said in disbelief, the idea of Nile and Erwin having even remotely the same taste in women making your face scrunch with distaste. “I can’t even imagine that.”
“I wouldn’t be able to either if I wasn’t there to witness the whole mess,” Levi said around his final bite of food, plate cleaned off completely and a cozy feeling settled in your chest at the sight.
“I can’t believe she chose Nile,” you frowned, staring at Erwin and waiting for him to say sike, but instead he laughed and dropped his head so that it rested against your knee.
“He really isn’t that bad. It just takes him a while to warm up to people and plus you probably intimidate him.”
“Yeah fucking right. That man can’t stand me because he’s a grouch with an ego,” you grumbled, recalling your last conversation with him.
“No,” Erwin argued. “Trust me, you’re smart, and successful, and pretty,” he said teasingly, taking your empty plate from your hand and pinching at your calf.
“Right, I’m sure my good looks really scare him off,” you said dryly, the high you were experiencing beginning its descent from its peak and turning your body into a weightless mass of relaxed limbs.
“They definitely do. That sucker never knew how to talk to hot women,” he laughed casually and mostly to himself as he stood and stretched out his back. Your mind stuck briefly to the word ‘hot’ and while it felt juvenile you couldn’t stop the idea of Erwin finding you hot from popping up into your head. But you squashed the thought when you reminded yourself that friends could find each other attractive and not want to sleep with them. Which made you feel nutty again, since you definitely found them hot and not in a platonic way whatsoever.
Erwin stacked the bowls on top of each other as he made his way to the kitchen, his comment lost to him as if he never said it, leaving you and Levi seated beside each other. At some point–and you weren’t sure when–you two had migrated closer to each other. If you shifted slightly to the right your knees would be touching. And not a simple grazing of your kneecaps.
You saw Erwin walk to your bathroom from your peripheral, the atmosphere falling into comfortable silence as you cuddled deeper into the cushions around you. When you allowed your face to turn to face Levi, you realized that your head was only a few inches from his shoulder. And he was close enough that you could smell his body wash and shampoo. It was a clean scent– masculine with a hint of citrus and you inhaled before you could register that you were even doing it. He looked down at you when he heard the sighed exhale you released. There was a deep look in his eyes, like too many thoughts were fluttering around and he wasn’t able to grasp a single one.
“Don’t let Nile get to you,” he said, sliding down the couch so his head rested on the back mimicking you. And instead of being a few inches from his shoulder, his nose replaced it. And you were too high and comfortable to consider moving away, even if it felt much too intimate for friends. “He’s harmless.”
“I know,” you whispered, voice slipping towards a rasp from smoking and very present exhaustion. Your eyes decided to trace Levi’s features when he closed his eyes for a few seconds. They started at his hair, and you noticed how long his bangs were getting again even though he recently got a haircut. Then admired the length of his lashes, long enough to nearly touch his cheek and lifted into a gentle curl at the end. His nose was on the slim side, and on anyone else it may have looked too small, but it fit his face perfectly. When your eyes landed on his lips, you stared with open longing. They were settled into a relaxed pout and a touch red from the way he had just been rubbing them together. The bottom lip was fuller than the top, and you could vividly imagine the way it would feel sucked between yours in a kiss. Your breath shallowed out and your eyes grew heavier. It wasn’t until he said your name, barely above a whisper, that your eyes snapped up to realize he was looking at you.
But you didn’t have time to feel embarrassed because when you looked up at him, you saw that his eyes weren’t locked back onto yours, but settled just below your nose. You parted your lips to say something, but nothing came out. And your mind was cursedly empty–or maybe it was a blessing–aside from the thought of him kissing you. All you could manage was a squeaky “yeah?” when you remembered he called your name.
You swore he leaned closer, his eyes jumping between your eyes and then back to your lips again. There was so much time filling the little space between you. Seconds seemed to stretch like melted marshmallows. And you couldn’t help but think that time was the least sticky thing about this situation. Distantly an alarm was going off in your head for you to pull back, or to say something to alleviate the very obvious tension hanging over your heads. But that alarm was much too far away for you to pay it any attention. Instead you shifted closer, not purposely or with intent. But naturally, like gravity itself was tugging you closer to Levi. Like you didn’t have much of a choice. It was simply the way the universe worked. Beyond any of your control.
Your noses met, and his breath puffed against your lips. The heart in your chest that was barely held together by loose threads and honey started to hammer in your chest. Hard enough to vibrate through your skin and you wouldn’t be surprised if Levi felt it too. You were distinctly aware of the circumstances, but the consequences weren’t glaringly obvious to you. Not until his lip hardly touched yours and the sound of the bathroom door opening down the hall startled you so fiercely, you jumped harshly away from Levi.
He remained in place, eyes silently watching you and a few strands of his hair fell across his forehead. He didn’t seem nearly as fazed as you were. The only thing giving him away was the unsteady rise and fall of his chest. When Erwin returned to the living room you refused to look at him. Guilt and shame rose high in your chest, only exacerbated by the floaty feeling of the weed still circulating your system. You felt Levi’s gaze stuck on you, though. As if he was urging you to look back at him, but you couldn't bring yourself to. Not when you were so willingly about to kiss him. With no regard for Erwin. The shame only grew when you realized that you were just about to do to him exactly what Nile did years ago. And while the circumstances weren’t the same, the consequences would’ve been.
Tumblr media
Much like you, Levi was avoidant. After that night on your couch the two of you haven’t spent a single moment alone. Which meant that neither of you brought up the kiss. Or almost kiss. It wasn’t until Saturday morning that you received a text from Levi– outside of the group chat you usually texted in. He was requesting some of the espresso chocolate chip cookies you stress baked last night, having accidentally baked nearly three dozen. The response was an automatic yes and you didn’t ask who they were for until he showed up at your doorstep in athletic wear with his hair pushed away from his face with a headband.
“They’re for my mom,” he said, following you inside as he watched you pack them into a glass container. “She’s moving today and I wanted to take her some to try.”
“Oh that’s fun,” you said, tone teetering towards awkwardness when you felt him come up beside you to snatch a cookie from the large mushroom shaped jar you kept them in.
“Mhmm,” he responded around a bite of it, “she’s making enough at the yoga studio she rents out to move into the apartment that’s attached to the top. The landlord was living there before but she’s too old to live alone now so her kids are forcing her out.”
“Is she excited to live near the lake?” You remembered that her studio was off of the boardwalk, a prime location for her clientele since it was mostly made up of young couples and other trendy businesses.
“Yeah,” he shrugged, “she’s a little worried though, says she feels like a fraud living in such a nice area.”
“That’s silly,” you chuckled, clipping the lid onto the container. “Why would she feel like a fraud?”
“Well, I grew up on the rougher side of town in a tiny one bedroom we shared and she’s lived there her whole life. She’s worried about scaring off the fancy people.”
“I’m sure she doesn’t have anything to worry about,” you faced Levi, leaning against your island. “Unless you get that scowl from her, then maybe she has a little bit to worry about.”
He rolled his eyes at that, but smiled at your teasing. “You should come with if you don’t have any plans for today. She doesn’t have much stuff to move, but an extra set of hands would be nice.”
“You want me to meet your mom,” you said, almost in awe and suddenly very nervous.
“Not what I said.” He finished the rest of the cookie, “but yes, she asks about you often enough, so I figured you should meet eventually.”
“You talk about me to your mom” you poked his bicep as you said it, voice sing-songy and playful. He grabbed your finger before you could fully pull away, tugging you closer to him, “who else am I going to complain about my annoying neighbor to?”
You were too close again, his clean smell flooding your nostrils and making you feel lightheaded from the memory of the other night. Your eyes flickered down to his lips, shining and smooth from the chapstick he probably just applied. When you felt your ears grow hot, you forced yourself to look away, pulling your finger back from his grip and attempting to feign nonchalance.
“Firstly, I’m not that annoying, if not you wouldn’t keep me around,” you said, taking a step away from him to increase the distance and allow the air conditioning to cool the skin on the back of your neck. “And secondly, I’d love to meet your mom. Just give me a second to change into something more appropriate for moving.”
His eyes fell to your outfit at the mention of it, your shorts short enough to barely be considered that and fit snugly around the curve of your hips. You wore an old sweater over the top, the neckline extremely stretched out so that one side hung off one shoulder. His gaze was scrutinizing. His eyes were hard and critical and if you didn’t know him well enough, you would mistake the look for something akin to contempt. But that wasn’t the case, not when they lingered at your collarbone and you felt the prickle of goosebumps rise on your arms.
“Don’t take forever,” he said eventually, the words spoken to your retreating back when you found the sense to walk away from him and his heated eyes. Something very important was shifting in your relationship with them. It was riddled with longing glances and lingering touches. All actions, but nothing was ever really said. Instead, it was a carousel that spun around endlessly waiting for someone to hit stop or make a move or do something. You could bring up the other night to Levi, ask him if he told Erwin, but you couldn’t bring yourself to. Because maybe he didn’t remember, which you doubted. Or maybe he just didn’t have anything to say to you. A mistake in his head that never actually happened. Better to pretend it didn’t then to talk about something that could potentially ruin the only good thing you cherished in this city.
You took their car today instead of opting for the train like you usually did. The drive to her current apartment wasn’t very long, but the traffic this late morning rivaled rush hour. Which is why you refused to drive in the city like some people did, and it seemed like Levi had the same sentiment when all he did was complain the whole way there. He pulled up to the curb of an older building, the concrete wall dirty and riddled with tiny cracks that small weeds were beginning to grow from. But he stopped in front of a floor level apartment that had a garden of herbs and flowers growing beneath the windowsill and you immediately knew that it must’ve belonged to Levi’s mom. The only other garden that blossomed in winter was Levi’s, and you swore it was witchcraft but he always responded snippily about how he just “knows what plants to grow for the season, it’s not rocket science.”
Once the car parked, a small woman came rushing out the front door and onto the sidewalk. Her hair was long and black, but pinned up with a claw clip. There were pieces that fell around her face and neck and you could only assume she put her hair up in haste when she saw Levi pull up. He was out of the car before you were, his mom already apologizing for the trouble of having to drive her all around town.
“You know it’s not a problem,” he groaned petulantly, and you bit down a smile at his whiny tone. “For the love of god, stop apologizing to me.”
“But–” Her sentence was cut off when she noticed you step out the passenger seat, the container of cookies held securely in your hand as you offered her a friendly smile. “You must be the lovely neighbor who Levi is always telling me about!”
She moved the chunks of face framing pieces of hair from her eyes that the wind kept blowing everywhere frantically and tucked them behind her ear. “Guilty,” you said, voice taking on a shyness you weren’t expecting as you held out your empty hand.
She was also far stronger than she looked, her petite frame deceptive when she took your hand and instead of shaking it, she pulled you into her arms and gave you a firm squeeze. You were so shocked you hardly had time to react and returned the tight hug by placing a tentative hand on her back. Your eyes met Levi’s over her shoulder and were startled again by the tenderness you saw in them. He usually held himself with an air of indifference. Like nothing really got to him. Or that he couldn’t be bothered by displaying his emotions outwardly. So, this expression, one that was so blatant with its fondness that it nearly bordered indulgence, was the last thing you ever expected to see on his face. Especially aimed towards you.
“It’s so wonderful to finally meet you!” Levi’s mom said against your ear as she squeezed your shoulders one more time before letting you go. “But I am sorry it’s under these circumstances. I cannot believe Levi brought you over here for manual labor.”
The words were stern and aimed firmly at Levi whose expression quickly changed to a glower and the knot in your chest eased with the familiarity of it. “It’s really no big deal, Ms. Ackerman. I’m happy to help.”
“Oh, please call me Kuchel. Ms. Ackerman makes me feel old,” she giggled, her hand moving to your elbow to give you another reassuring squeeze.
“You are old, mom,” Levi said from behind her, and her sweet and excited disposition faltered when she smacked the back of his head, adding a chastising, “be nice to your mother.”
You couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled its way up your throat, and you had to look down at your feet to keep the laugh from lasting longer than you wanted. You only looked up when you heard her voice and feet retreat back into her apartment.
“Don’t be mean to your mom. She’s cute and tiny,” you scolded him playfully as you followed her into the home after she called both of your names.
“Don’t underestimate her, she’s nuts,” he replied, a flicker of genuine fear crossing his irises as he rubbed the back of his head in obvious pain.
And while you personally did not think Kuchel was nuts, she definitely wasn’t one you needed to coddle or watch out for. For a woman who barely hit five feet tall she was strong as hell, carrying boxes that should’ve been too heavy for her to lift with grace and ease. And after moving all of them up and down the stairs to her new apartment, you were covered in a layer of sweat and severely out of breath, meanwhile she was still flitting around with the energy of a small child who snorted candy like it was cocaine. She even managed to rearrange the living room furniture that was left behind by the previous owner in the short time it took you and Levi to pick up lunch from the cafe a few doors down from the studio.
“Ok, maybe she’s a little nuts,” you whispered to Levi as you both stood in the doorway of her place, boxes stacked precariously by the door as Kuchel pushed the couch further from the wall so she could start building the bookshelf she planned to anchor there.
He gave you an ‘I told you so’ look before handing you the bag filled with your salad and sandwiches. “Ma, I told you to wait until we got back.”
“I don’t know why. If I waited for you, then I wouldn’t be anywhere near done,” she argued, shifting the long box around so she could cut it open. You smiled as you watched Levi wrestle the box cutter from her and slip it closed into his back pocket. The scowl that seemed permanently etched on his face now reflected in hers and the giggle you tried to swallow down came out in a burst of bright laughter.
“Come eat lunch and then we can assemble your bookshelf, yeah?” You offered, holding out a chipotle veggie wrap to Kuchel with a grin. She accepted it gratefully with a sweet smile, only to give Levi a scolding look two seconds later. He couldn’t do anything besides roll his eyes, snatching his sandwich from you and taking a large, annoyed bite from the corner.
The rest of the afternoon flew by, Kuchel entertaining you endlessly with stories about child Levi who she lovingly referred to as a tiny shit stirrer from the moment he could walk. “If I wasn't living out of boxes, I’m sure I’d have a million pictures to show you,” she said, looking around at the labeled cardboard scattered around the living room.
“And on that note, we should be heading home,” Levi interrupted, steering her shoulders when her eyes caught on a box with the word Levi scrawled in pretty cursive and a heart beside it.
“Aw, but we were just getting to know each other,” Kuchel pouted, then winked at you over Levi’s shoulder when you made eye contact.
“Next time,” he grumbled, finding your wrist with slender fingers and tugging you towards the door. “Erwin texted that he needs the car, so we better hurry.”
“Liar,” you and Kuchel responded at the same time, sharing a snicker once you realized.
“Yeah, we’re definitely leaving,” Levi grimaced, tugging on your wrist harder the closer you got to the door. “Bye, mom, call me if you need me.”
You waved with your free hand to Kuchel, who returned it fondly as Levi led you to the yoga studio. At some point during your descent down the stairs, Levi’s fingers shifted from your wrist and into your hand, his palm pressed securely against yours. It seemed as though he hadn’t even registered the transition. And you weren’t aware of it either until you reached the car, and the warmth that you so quickly became accustomed to left your hand empty. He was muttering something to you as he made his way to the driver’s side, but you were firmly stuck in place staring at your hand. The loneliness hit you like a freight train. The weight of your feelings bearing down on you with ferocity and your heart thumping rapidly in your chest. Your worst fear was manifesting right in front of your eyes. Love began to fester and writhe in your stomach. The worst version of it too. The kind that was unrequited and silent. The kind that needed to be kept a secret because the danger of it ever coming out would be far worse than harboring it close within your soul. Casting it off into a dark, isolated corner of your existence.
Because another heartbreak– this heartbreak–you wouldn’t survive.
“You getting in or what?” Levi called from behind the wheel, the window down a crack as he looked at you with familiar agitation that did nothing but make your heart grow and then immediately shrivel in your chest.
This was possibly going to be the hardest thing you’ve ever had to do.

ᯓ★Jams and Jellies
Chapter 2: Longing for You (part 1)
A/N: Another one, Another one. I've been so lazy trying to write this out, I should've done an outline first. Hope you enjoy chap 2!
Tags: mainly fluff, friends to lovers, post outbreak, yearning and burning, slight age gap (i decided reader is in late 30s, Joel is in early 50s), reader insert, mentions of y/n, cute nicknames, shy n awkward Joel, Joel x f!reader, passionate kissing, touchy touchy Feely (nothing too graphic), small description of reader's body (very vague),
chap 1 // chap 2 (part 2)
𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝
"Joel, I-- are.. are you sure this is okay? I mean.. Ellie is my student.. won't this be weird?"
"You worry too much, darling. The kid adores you." He hold your cheek in his hands, gazing longingly in your eyes. Suddenly, you see the immense love he has for you. His eyes are sparkling and glowing, and anytime he looks at you, you see flickers of love and warmth fly by. You turn your head slightly and part your lips, moving towards his face. Joel reciprocates this by pulling your face closer to his.
And then, your lips connect. A burst of colors and waves fill the room as you both slowly and softly kiss.
Holy shit you think, His lips are so amazingly soft. Oh God...
You grab the sides of his face, mushing your faces together, desperate for more. Your kisses get hungrier and hungrier. You explore his tongue with your own, changing the nature of the kiss. Joel is surprised with the sudden change, but immediately follows your pace. You both sit there, sloppily making out. His hands travel from your face to your body, not leaving any curve or cervice untouched. He's so desperate to touch you, feel you. It's clear he likes your ass the most, because he suddenly pulls you on top of him and firmly squeezes both cheeks. You yelp slightly, but it's lost in his mouth. He chuckles and pulls away, both of you gasping for air.
You both lock eyes with each other, and then...
"HEY TEACH---" you hear someone screaming your name, "ARE YA AWAKE???" Your eyes jerk open. You take a moment to finally wake up, heavily breathing. You look around and suddenly you realized--- it was a dream. "Oh fuck.." You whisper. You rest your hand on your chest, trying to calm down. God, was it all really just a dream? It felt so real.
I can't believe I'm already having wet dreams of a man I met ONCE, you admit embarrassingly.
"MISS!!! IT'S SATURDAY!" Shit. You completely forgot that Ellie was coming over today. You rush down the stairs, yelling "I'll be there in a sec, Ellie!" How could you forget? Your mind is running a mile a minute, nonstop thinking about your fantasies about Joel ever since you met him. "Aw, jeez..." You almost miss last step. You take a moment to regain your balance and stare at the front door, hoping that Joel wouldn't be there, yet simultaneously wishing he'd be there next to Ellie.
You take a breath, smooth your hair, and open the door. Ellie is waiting there, greeting you with an energetic smile and.. Joel is standing by the steps, visibly annoyed. You take a quick look and see he's leaning on the rails of the steps, buff arms crossed against his chest, which only makes him look bigger. God, he's handsome. The morning breeze hits you, and you just realized you're only in a flimsy tank-top and way too tight shorts. Joel turns to face you, eyebrows narrowing his eyes, but they quickly separate and rise up to his forehead. He was definitely staring at you. His flushed face was eyeing your body, and he had to turn away when your nipples started peeking through your top. You wrapped yourself in your arms, embarrassed and flushed, yet ecstatic that you managed to catch his attention. You begin nervously. "Oh, uh, sorry-- Ellie, I guess I overslept.." Joel notices your red face when you say that. "Come on in, guys."
"Oh no- I have patrol duty this mornin'" Joel quickly says. He clears his throat, painfully averting his gaze from your almost-bare body. "Y..Y'sure you don't want anything to eat?" You gulped, not wanting to sound to hopeful. "No--" He says sharply. "I'll see you at home Ellie." He briskly turns away and walks down the road.
"Jeez-- I don't know why he's so fucking mad. It's only 10am, I should've came later." Ellie suddenly said. You watch as Joel's figure gets smaller, until he disappears around the corner.
"It's alright Ellie, you're welcome here anytime." You said sweetly. "Now-- let's get this party started! Come on in!" You pulled her in, the both of you giggling and getting started for the day.
===========
Joel Miller's POV
He stood there next to Ellie, getting slightly annoyed that you didn't answer the door the first 500 knocks. He's a very punctual person, he expects every thing to fall into place at times he deems right. So when you don't answer your door at 9:30:00 AM on the dot, he starts getting frustrated. He was also hoping you all could grab some breakfast together, since his morning shift starts at 10am. What good is that now? He grumbles.
"Yer acting like a fucking baby, Joel. Just go if you're gonna act like this, it's embarrassing." Ellie teases
"I ain't acting like a baby, she's the one that gave this time. I'm expectin' her to swing the doors open with a huge smile." He says begrudgingly. He really wanted to see your smile again. It was cute and earnest; the sweet sound of your laughter fluttering his chest. He gets lost in his thoughts about you even if Ellie is banging on the door. After 30 minutes passed, Joel and Ellie were about to head out. He felt a sting in his chest, deeply disappointed that he couldn't see you today. Then he heard your sweet sweet voice filling the spaces of your house. "I'll be there in a sec, Ellie!", he heard you say. His heart started to bang heavy in his chest, and he never felt as light as he did now. Ellie rushes to the front door and Joel awkwardly leans on your railing, quickly crossing his arms to try and calm his pounding heart. He can't believe he's gonna see you again. He's acting like a teenage boy all over again, unreasonably ecstatic that he's gonna see his crush walking in the highway again. He hears the door unlock and then... you're there. Messy hair; clearly a sign indicating you just woke up, puffy lips, and... the straps of your top are slipping off your soft shoulder. Your collarbone protruding out, framing your shoulders and your sweet neck. His eyes travel down and he notices the way your small shorts squeezes your thighs; he's practically salivating at the sight of your pretty and bare legs. He feels the slight wind raise his head and his eyes fall on your breasts, your nipples slightly protruding against the thin fabric. He forced himself to turn away before he continued ogling at your beautiful body. His mind is already forcing him to think of how you'd feel under his hand, how you'd taste. Your soft voice interrupts his lustful thoughts,
"Oh uh, sorry Ellie, I guess I overslept..", Joel notices how your face quickly picking up heat. God she's so cute, Joel thinks.
"Come on in guys."
"Oh no- I have patrol duty this mornin' " He blurts out. Why did you say that? They can fuckin' wait.
"Y..Y'sure you don't want anything to eat?" Your sweet voice intoxicates him, and he has to get out of there before he does something he'll regret.
"No-- I'll see you at home Ellie." He rushes down the road, practically running down the street, and makes a sharp turn in the corner. He runs and runs until he reaches the stables, stopping to catch his breath. "Hey there, you okay?" Tommy, a younger version of Joel, asked. Joel turns to face his brother hating the way his voice shakes when he says "Yes".
"You don't look so hot man, maybe you should sit this one out--"
"No--, M'good I promise. Let's head out."
Tommy peers at him curiously, "Sure boss.."
Joel, Tommy, and other patrolmen go out, scouring the area for any threat. Joel and Tommy pair together and venture out West, paying close attention to their surroundings. Well-- Tommy is paying attention, Joel still can't stop thinking about you, your sweet voice trying to convince him to come inside, your beautiful body shining against the sun's rays--
"Hey Tommy, what d'yknow 'bout that art teacher?" Joel hesitantly asks. Tommy has been nagging him about engaging with the women in Jackson, but Joel didn't have much interest and wished dearly for Tommy to stop. His back is facing his brother, but he can see his lips mischievously curl up.
"Ohhhh, did she catch yer sly eye, brother?" Tommy was never going to let Joel live this down. The older brother turned and gave his brother a deadly stare, but it's not so intimidating when his face is flushing red. "I- M'just curious-- Ellie is at her house today. Jus' wanted to know who she is." Joel said that last part with such softness, it startles Tommy. The mere mention of you sends Joel through his wildest dreams, his heart aching and yearning for you. How long has it been since I felt like this?
"All I know is that she arrived to Jackson a completely different person. When we found her roaming the forest, she looked... scared. Then she started cryin', sayin' something' like 'Oh my God, people!' It was heartbreakin'." Tommy remembered how you fell to your knees, crying and smiling because you found friendly people, you found safety. Him and his wife, Maria, took care of you. They helped you readjust to society. They helped you grow and feel safe. Joel looked at his brother again, realizing how much he's changed, how grown up his little brother got. A twinge of guilt rises in his heart, "How is she-- I mean.., does she get uncomfortable 'round guys?" Joel sputters out. Tommy looked at his brother and said slyly, "Why? You interested or something?" Joel doesn't say anything, he just looks at Tommy with narrowed eyes and bright red cheeks.
"Okay, all I know is that all the eligible bachelors 'round here never got in her pants, cuz she's more friendly then flirty. I don't even think she knows half the time them fellas are hittin' on 'er."
Joel simply says "Let's get this shift over with."
"Eager, aren't we?" Again, Joel doesn't say anything, but his body language betrays him, and he leaves Tommy as he hears a hearty laughter.
=========
Reader's POV
You rest your paintbrush on the table beside you. You step back to take a long look at your painting of your tiny garden. The canvas is tinted with greens and yellows, skillfully stroked to form the grass, plants, and leaves. It's adorned with bright reds, oranges, pinks, and yellows, indicating the fruit and vegetables growing as well as the bright, mellow, midday sun shining down on you and Ellie. You glance at Ellie; she's squatted by your small flowerbed, expertly sketching each petal, each stem, each rock. "It's looking good, Ellie," You walk over to her, casting a shadow over her and her sketchbook.
"Thanks, teach" she turns her neck and smiles at you.
You look over at your garden, noticing your lemons are ripe.
"Hey, want some lemonade?" You piqued.
"Fuck yeah I do, it's fucking blazing out here." Ellie said with a grin. You laugh and start picking out the lemons. Ellie walks over to you and asks, "How do you know if they're ripe?" "Well..." You pick a lemon off of the plant and place it in Ellie's hand "..you give it a squeeze. If it's firm, then it's good." She squeezes it and smiles "This fucker is ripe as hell!" You giggled, and continue "Another way to tell is by the skin. It could be greenish yellow, or completely yellow."
"Where'd you learn that?"
You smile sadly, "I learned it from my.. my mom." She wasn't your real mom, but she was definitely a mother to you. You spent more of your life with her than with your actual mother-- but that's only because of the outbreak. You loved your real mom, but you called her your true mother. She raised you and your brother, taught you both how to survive. Those who can't do, teach.
"She taught me everything I know, she taught me how to live and how to survive. It's crazy how those both are synonymous but mean different things."
"Yeah, it is crazy.. I bet she was amazing." Ellie looked at you with empathy. It wasn't pity, she understood you. You smiled and collected the rest of the lemons. "Yeah.. yeah she really was. Now-- let's go inside and I'll show you how to make her lemonade recipe."
You lead her inside. The floor feels cool underneath your feet. It welcomes you from the scorching sun. You and Ellie spend way too long for a simple lemonade recipe. Your small kitchen wasn't built for 2 people; accidents were bound to happen. You both laugh as sugar and lemon juice spill on the floor, but it ends up tasting decent.
"So, what's your story? How did you end up here-- How did you end up with Joel?" Of course you wanted to know more about your student, but you'd be lying if you didn't ask to learn more about Joel instead.
"Well... long story short, we both ran into each other and saved each others lives." She says quickly
"Pff-- ran into each other??"
"Yeah, we did." Ellie becomes quiet, so you decide to drop the subject. I can't imagine what she has gone through.
You both spend the rest of the afternoon hours talking about favorite music, favorite artists, favorite foods. You show her collections of exquisite knickknacks, rocks, and minerals during your journey of survival. You share some of your fondest memories - memories before the outbreak, with Ellie. She gobbles it up with delight.
"Say, do you wanna go get some lunch outside?" You suggest
"Lunch?? Don't you mean dinner??" You looked at the clock, and it read 6:01. "Wow... I didn't know we were talking for that long!" Ellie laughs, "Yeah, let's go out for some LUNCH."

The dog days of summer were ending and it felt more like fall the morning when they left Wildwood. He’d taken care of the cabin the night before and even cleaned out the fireplace. It meant there would be no heat running in the cabin, but he and Y|N had found ways to stay warm. Going back to reality would be an adjustment to both of their lives and he was confident they would figure it out together.
Before Y|N got to the cabin, he’d been so out of sorts. He couldn’t make any sense about what to do about his situation. Then, as time passed, he was beginning to wonder if she would find him. When he finally realized it was her walking down his road, the relief set in. The giant, swirling abyss dissipated. She, somehow, always would show up when he needed her most. Sure, he’d given her a clue, but she showed up. She still cared.
He looked over at the passenger seat where she sat in his truck. She’d only gotten more beautiful as time had passed. He couldn’t stop sneaking glances at her and she’d caught him more than once. Y|N would smile a little, tuck her hair behind her ear and look down. When he would catch her watching him, he knew she still had some kind of feelings for him, too. Even if it was pure lust, or just pent-up years of desire, he would take it because he had been holding them in, too. He really couldn’t get enough of her.
They were basically driving into the sun, but it didn’t bother her too much. She had her head down, writing in the notebook she’d forced him to stop to buy. It was bright enough that she still wore sunglasses as she wrote and the sun gave her hair a halo. His angel. Once in a while, she would whisper two sides of a conversation, or other bits of dialog before putting the pen back to the paper to continue the flurry of writing. She went on like that for a couple hours before she lost some speed.
She turned yet another page in the notebook and wrote something at the top of the page before she finally gave him her attention again.
“Okay, we need to talk about some stuff. I need your opinion on things,” she said.
“God, finally,” he said. “You’ve been so quiet, except for whispering dialog, I thought you forgot me.”
“Oh honey, I could never forget about your fine self. Look at you, you sexy sonofabitch,” she said. She smirked when she saw how pink his ears got. “I was writing so I could get the scene out of my head so I could get to you.”
“Get to me?”
“I’m starting a new book in a series I do and I want your input,” she explained.
“I thought you were never going to use me as your smut muse?” he said. “I think we have a pretty good story going.”
“Oh my sweet boy,” she said, “you really are adorable. Let me ask you this, have you read any good books lately?”
“Not lately, but yeah. It’s this guy, a lawman, who fell from grace, gets a job as sheriff in some backwoods area during prohibition, tries to take down bootleggers and other bad guys…”
“... encounters some weird shit in the woods and has an eye for the lady that runs the diner?” she finished for him.
“Yeah, you know the books?” he asked. When she didn’t answer, it hit him. “Are you telling me you’re Ross Black?”
You laughed, “Yeah. Honestly, I thought you knew. I did kind of make it obvious.” You waited as he thought it over. “It’s basically you and all of the cool western lawmen and broken lead characters. Dean, Clint, you, Longmire. Rolled ‘em all up to make Hobart Gibson. Hell, I even gave him your physical description.”
“Hold on,” he raised his index finger at you as he drove. “I need to process this.”
You patiently waited for him to think it all through.
“So, you’re Nova Scott, who, from what I can tell since I’m not allowed to read the books, is on par with Nicholas Sparks and Danielle Steel, and have published however many of those…”
“...about a dozen,” you answered.
“A handful have been made into major motion pictures. Not only am I not in any of those movies, I’m also not the muse. And yet, every single one had some big name in it and made a shitload of money.”
“Are you telling me you want to do a romance movie?”
“No. …I don’t know… maybe?”
“Well, what do you think of Whiskey Hollow and Bart Gibson?” you asked. You’d spent a lot of time and energy getting the character just right.
Jensen looked at you a moment, “He’s a total badass. I love how salty he is, but is soft for Lill.” He paused, “You ever gonna get them together?”
“Do you think they should?” you already had it in the plans but you wanted to hear his opinion.
“She’s obviously in love with Bart.”
“It’s obvious?”
“Every time Bart goes to the diner, Lill personally makes his favorite sandwich and gives him a cookie. If she didn’t love him…”
“... no cookie?” you grinned.
“No cookie,” he tipped his head, his eyes still on the road. “Sugar was precious in the depression. You don’t just slip random people a cookie.”
“Unless she’s in love?”
“Unless she’s in love.”
“Is that why you give me ring-pops, ‘cause you’re in love with me?”
He looked directly at you before switching back to the road and back to you again, “Are you fucking with me right now?”
“Depends on your answer.”
“Have I given you more than one?”
“Jay, you don’t forget much. I know you remember.” There have been many over the years.
He sighed. “I knew it was a trap,” he muttered. “You already know I love you.”
You nodded, “I know that.”
“Is Bart going to make a move on Lill? Are you getting any movie options offers coming in?” he asked.
“Lillian isn’t going to make the first move, I can tell you that much. If he has any kind of warm fuzzies for her, he has to tell her. Cookies and ring-pops won’t cut it. They’re gestures, she wants to hear him say it.”
“He’s not going to say it just because she wants to hear it. If he’s going to tell her he’s in love with her, he’ll do it when he’s ready.”
“Nearly three decades isn’t enough time to work up the nerve?”
“I knew we weren’t talking about Bart and Lill anymore…” he let out a sound of annoyance.
“Who do you think Hobart and Lillian are, Jay?”
“We were only able to get together a few weeks ago. I hadn’t seen you in person in over three years. If we, you and I, are going to be together, I want to do things the right way and that means taking things one step at a time, getting familiar with each other again.”
“Don’t I get a say in this? Relationships are give and take and I feel like I’m doing all the giving. I left my job to come find you. I know I don’t need the job, but that isn’t the point. That’s a burnt bridge.”
“Just like you can’t demand I tell you I’m in love with you. If I want to say it, I will when I’m ready. Individually, you and I have been through too much shit to not try to give us the best shot possible and that’s exactly what I want to do. Are you going to do the same or are you going to keep fucking pushing?”
“Knowitall,” you grumbled.
“That’s rich coming from you.”
“What the fuck does that mean?”
“It means you’re the same way. You’re one of the smartest people I know, but you also know you’re smart and don’t leave room for other people’s opinions.”
“Even if they’re wrong?”
“See?” he raised his index finger and wagged it in your direction. “That right there. That’s why it’s an opinion. Just because it’s different from yours, doesn’t mean it’s wrong.”
“Oh really? You sure were vocal when you thought I was wrong about things,” you countered.
“When?! Examples.”
“Every single guy I dated was either an asshole or a douchebag, as you were all too happy to point out.”
“But they were douchebags and assholes. Knew from the start Grant was a manchild freeloader.”
“That may be true, but in that case, your opinion was irrelevant because he was my choice. And not all of them were bad guys, they just weren’t a good match for me.”
“And that’s what makes them douchebags.”
“You married the one I told you was a stuck-up, snobby-assed bitch. What’s really got a bug up your ass, Jay? Seems like we both made dumb choices in the name of love.”
He went silent. You weren’t entirely sure if you’d really made him mad or not. He had both hands on the wheel and slightly tipped back, the expression on his face was changing from annoyed to resolve over and over again.
“Jesus, I can see you thinking in there. You're gonna say what’s on your mind or do you need to pull over and walk it off?” your tone was still snotty.
He clenched his jaw and you decided, maybe too late, to shut up and cool off, yourself, while you rode in silence. He needed to do the same, you supposed. You forgot that he liked to take time to think things through. You should have known not to push him so hard. He needed the time to consider all options and you were more in the moment and needing immediate action.
“Hey,” you wanted to apologize, but the truck began to slow down. He might have needed to walk it off after all. “What are you doing?”
He didn’t say anything, he only pulled over and stopped the truck, putting it in park. He got out and you watched as he walked around the front and came to your door.
He flung open your door, “I take it back.”
Confused, you asked, “Take what back?”
“When I said we shouldn’t try to be together because of our careers. When I said it wasn’t “our time” I was full of shit then and I knew it. I wanted you. I always wanted you. I knew that Christmas at my parents’ house that I didn’t want to let you go. When you told my mom we were just friends? I didn’t like it. All of those boyfriends you had were douchebags because they weren’t me. No one would ever love you, or treat you as well as me.”
He stepped on the running board, leaned in and unbuckled your seatbelt, then turned your knees toward him as he stepped down.
“I should never have let you get on that airplane. I knew I was in love with you then, just like I’m in love with you still.”
He took off his sunglasses and looked up at you in the truck.
Your hands went to his face and neck, touching him wherever you could reach.
“Promise me one thing?” he asked.
“Anything,” you whispered.
“Never be away more than a couple days,” he said.
You nodded.
“Honey, I need you to say it.”
You slid to the edge of the seat and out of the truck. Jensen kept his hands on you, helping you down to the ground, his arms around your waist.
“My sweet boy, I promise, never to be away more than a couple days,” you managed to say while looking into his beautiful green eyes.
The intensity that Jensen exuded could often be overwhelming or scary depending on the situation. He wasn’t one to throw away words. He said what he meant. He was in love with you.
His forehead rested on yours as you stroked his head and neck. “I could never give my whole heart to someone because you had it, Jensen, my whole heart, since the day we met. I was so scared I would never see you again. I cried when we left the hotel, just like I did when I got on the airplane. I shouldn’t have left.”
If he hadn’t been holding you so tightly to his body, you might have started crying. As it was, you felt like you could barely breathe. Putting words to feelings you’d held down so firmly and for so long seemed to have robbed you of oxygen. It was amazing to finally be able to say it out loud and to the man you’d loved since he was a boy.
He tipped his head down and to the side, his lips meeting yours with subdued passion. The occasional car driving by reminded you both you were still in public. Jensen had been extremely private in his relationship with Danneel. Making out with him on the side of the road felt somewhat out of character. It wasn’t until the last car that went by and honked their horn that he decided to come up for air.
“We’ll finish this later,” he said.
“Jay,” you stopped him. He came back to you, his hand cupping your face. “I’m sorry for pushing too hard. I didn’t mean to upset you, that was the last thing I wanted. I just get hyper aware of what I want and get too focused on it.”
“Mhm,” he grumbled, “you’re forgiven.” He gave you a quick peck.
“Hey Jay, remember when we did the photobooth?” He nodded, stroking your cheek with his thumb. “I was really glad to have you as a friend, but that’s also when you were more than a friend. No one has ever been good enough since then, because, whether I knew it or not, I was in love with you, too.”
“Now you’re just sucking up so you can see my half of the photo strip.”
“Please, can I see it? I didn’t even know you still had it,” you said. “I didn’t take you for that kind of sentimentality.”
He went to the back of the truck and hopped in with his usual athletic grace that still irritated the crap out of you. He barely put any effort into staying fit. Minimal cardio, minimal weight training, and he was good at everything. He went to the box you hadn’t even noticed he’d put on the truck. It was inside a bungee’d bin and he pulled out the box you’d seen at the cabin with “Nova” written on it. Sliding the box to the end, you were there to open the tailgate and join him when he sat down.
He opened the box for you to see all of the contents loose inside. Most of the letters that he kept were in their envelopes and only a few loose cards and pages. He’d kept a few things you’d given him, including a bottle of sand from the lake trip when you were kids, to the trinket you won at the arcade in Dallas. Something caught your eye at the bottom of the box, though.
“Are you kidding me right now?” you couldn’t believe your eyes. You immediately recognize the white and black material and black nylon straps.
“I guess it wasn’t so bad after all,” he shrugged.
“Now I know why you wouldn’t let me dig in the box at the cabin,” you said. “But why now? And how did you even sneak this out of my apartment? How did you find it?”
“When I was looking for stuff that belonged to fuckface to throw out. I had a moment of weakness. Look inside,” he said.
After you unzipped the main pouch, you looked inside to find a piece of folded paper. Opening it, you saw what might have been the first letter you ever wrote Jensen. You remembered the aquatic stationery that you’d been so happy to find. In the folds of the paper was the bottom half of the photo strip. The edges were worn and some of the edges of the pictures were damaged, but the important parts were still there.”
“I think you were laughing at some dumb face I was making. And that bottom one, that’s my favorite,” he said, shyly. “You still look at me like that, you know.”
It was the picture of your forehead on his that got you, the bottom picture. Your face had a happy smile, your hand on his chest next to his neck and your other arm around his shoulders. The look on his face and the body language of you both spoke volumes. You put the picture down and looked up at him, speechless.
“I thought about it… kissing you… really wished you had tried. I was too shy and scared of your dad to make a move,” he admitted.
You wiped your eyes, “Honestly, I wish I had too, but I was too scared and I didn’t know what the hell I was doing to even attempt it.”
“Me either,” he admitted, “but I was willing to find out, if you were.”
You couldn’t stop looking at the pictures. The top half was in your house and you’d seen them many times, but the bottom half was so different. There was an undeniable shift in the bottom. The top was just two kids having a good time. The bottom was two kids having a very intimate moment.
Jensen started putting things back in the box and gently took the photo strip from you. “Alright, let’s just pretend you didn’t see those.”
“Nope, too late. I already know the truth.”
“What’s that?”
You watched him put the box back in the bin and secure the bungee cords.
“Despite years of blatant denial, you are, in fact, a hopeless romantic, Jensen Ackles.”
He hopped down from the truck bed and stood directly in front of you, pushing your knees apart to stand closer. You locked your legs around him as your fingertips went under his shirt to caress his warm belly. His skin shuddered at your touch, his breath catching.
“Sweetheart… you tryin’a jump my bones on the side of the road?” he asked, not hating it.
“Maybe.”
“How long to your house?”
You eased up on him, but it was hard to not keep going.
“Not sure, but I think we’re at least four hours away, still,” you said.
“Grab on,” he said, then quickly added, “around my neck.”
You did as he asked, then he did the rest and carried you to the passenger side of the truck where he put you down. He did it like it was nothing, not even so much as a grunt. He took a moment to give your ass a smack before moving on to close the tailgate and get back inside the cab of the truck.
When you were back on the highway, your mind went back to Bart and Lill.
“Jay…I do need to talk to you about Whiskey Hollow and…” you trailed off. It wasn’t like one of your books hadn’t been turned into a movie before, but this time was different.
“Shoot,” he replied.
“You do like the series, right? And the characters? I mean, I did write Bart for you, specifically…” you really needed the validation from him.
“Yeah, I really do. Bart isn’t strictly me or any of the people you mentioned, but an amalgamation. I like him a lot. A good man who does the best he can and isn’t perfect. Bart’s backstory is good and it definitely explains why he is the way he is.” He gave you a pointed look, “I’d tell you if I thought it was shit.”
“Okay, good. Please always give me your honest opinion… when it’s work-related.”
“And if it’s not work-related?”
You smiled, “I always look good in whatever outfit I choose.”
He nodded once, “That won’t be a problem.”
“So… my agent was begging me to write a script for Whiskey Hollow rather than have another writer do it. She wants to shop it around to studios and see if anyone will pick it up. But I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing. I’ve never written a script before and have no clue about what’s important. I want to do a good job and I need your help. I don’t want to embarrass myself, especially on my own story.”
“You won’t embarrass yourself,” he said. “Alright, hit me. How can I help?”
Over the next two hours, you wrote as fast as your brain and hands would allow. Thankfully, you’d adapted a shorthand method that made getting your flow of words out quickly without losing anything. Eventually, Jensen needed to pull over for gas and you both took the opportunity to use the restroom and grab some food for the ride, especially since you were sure there wasn’t anything to eat at your house.
“What’s all this?” he pointed at your purchases on the counter.
“Milk. Bread. Jelly. Peanut butter. Chips,” you said. “Pretty standard stuff.”
“How are we going to make sandwiches in the truck?”
“Very carefully.”
You pointed him in the direction of the paper plates and plastic cutlery to complete your grocery shopping. You paid for all of the food and gas for this stop and were back on the road fairly quickly after. Jensen held out the keys to you and told you he needed a nap. Gladly, you took the keys and got comfy in his truck. It never failed to amaze you at how quickly he could shut off his brain and go to sleep. Before he was totally out, you let him know you needed to make some calls and he gave you a thumbs-up without opening his eyes.
When you got your earbuds in, you pushed a button on your phone, then said, “Call Jen.”
She picked up on the third ring.
“Where the hell have you been?!”
“I told you,” you spoke quietly, “I needed to find Jensen.”
“That was almost a month ago, Y|N.”
“It took a minute.”
“Does that mean you found his fine ass?” Jen asked.
“I sure did,” you still kept your voice low. “About three weeks ago.”
“Three weeks ago?! So you found him almost right away? What the hell were you doing? Were you doing him?”
“Shh! Yes, we were making up for lost time. I’m with him right now, in his truck, and we’re going to my house. I know I don’t have to remind you, but please keep this quiet. We’re going to need to go to Texas at some point.”
Jen was only just beginning to process what you’d told her. “How was the sex? Was he any good? Did you scream?”
“Jen!”
“I can hear your friend,” Jensen said, quietly.
“Oh my god, he can hear you,” the blush quickly rose to your cheeks.
“No, go ahead, tell her. I want to hear your answer,” he paused. “Tell the truth,” he cracked open an eye.
“I’ll talk to you later, Jen,” you were mortified. “I need to call Janice, too.”
You disconnected the call and turned down the volume in your earbuds. You were about to call your manager, but Jensen was curious.
“Well?” he asked.
“Do you really want me to tell you?” you countered, hoping he would drop it.
“I can take constructive criticism,” he said.
You decided to just say it. “You are the only person to crack the code. A few have gotten close, but you… are masterful,” you couldn’t bear to look at him.
He gave a sleepy little fist pump and grin before crossing his arms over his chest again and closing his eyes. You waited a good twenty minutes before you attempted to call your agent, Jan. The two of you discussed the books you had going and what you’d been doing, then caught her up to the details about the script she wanted you to write.
“Sweetie,” she began, “you know I love that you have two secret identities, but you need to give me more to do. You have phenomenal numbers in BOTH fan bases. When will you let me get you on TV for some promotion? We really need an author reveal. Also, I have a big-wig on the hook for your script, really need you to get that to me as soon as you can, sweets.”
“I promise, I’m making progress. I bought the software. I have a consultant. I just need a few moments peace to crank the sucker out,” you liked Jan a lot, but there were times you wanted to kick her, not super, hard, but enough to leave a bruise.
“What would it take to get you out on a promotion circuit?”
“A miracle.”
“Pretend I’m a magic genie. If we’re gonna do a reveal, let’s go big,” she said.
“I have conditions,” you said.
“Lay ‘em on me, sweetie. Genie Jan is ready,” she said.
“If you manage to sucker someone into buying the script… if the studio or producers give the green light… I will do TV with whomever is cast as Bart. I want it noted with emphasis that Jensen Ackles should be strongly considered for Bart. He is, after all, whom I was thinking of when writing Bart. I will do Seth Meyers with Jensen.”
“Jensen Ackles? Are you sure? Isn’t he kind of imploding right now? Aren’t they still looking for him?” Jan asked.
“He’s on my wishlist, Jan. He is the one who should play Bart,” you reiterated.
“Sweetie, I understand. I just want the best possible outcome.”
“Anyway, I’m sure he’ll be found soon. That woman’s story isn’t ringing true, either. I think she was just trying to scam money out of him.”
“And you want Seth Meyers? Why not one of the Jimmy’s?” she asked.
“I’m a fan and I dated a Jimmy, It didn’t go well. Besides, Seth is funny and the only late night show I’ll watch,” you explained.
“If I can get you on Seth’s show, you’ll do it and not back out?”
“My conditions are simple. I will do it, but it must be like that.”
“Alright, I can work with that,” she said.
You ended the call shortly after that and felt a lot better about things moving forward, not just with your career, but also with Jensen. When you did get home, you were going to look into that “hussy”, as Donna called her, and see what you could find out, maybe enlist the help of Shelley. You just wanted to ask the woman why she was targeting Jensen. You drove on in silence thinking of all the things you wanted and needed to do when you got to the house. Before you knew it, you were driving 25 mph down the main drag of your hometown and Jensen stirred awake at the speed change.
As you got closer to your old apartment, you looked up and noted the light was on in the living room.
“Mom is still up,” you looked at the clock, 10:09 PM.
Jensen looked up at the windows as you stopped for the stop light. “It’s weird not going to your apartment.”
“I know. Before today, now, it didn’t bother me, but it does feel strange.” The light changed and you drove on toward the bridge. “I hope you like my house, though. I did a couple things with you in mind.”
“You did?”
“Don’t get me wrong, it’s for me, too, but I thought you’d find them appealing,” you said.
“You didn’t have to do that. Your apartment was great though,” he said. Curiosity got the better of him, “What things?”
“I’ll give you a tour when we get there,” you said, crossing the bridge that went over the river. “I’ve had to buy a lot of stuff just to maintain the land, it’s ridiculous, and I had to have out buildings built. I’m a proper adult.”
He snorted, “Do you use the equipment?”
Sometimes it was annoying how he could see through your bullshit so easily. “Sometimes. Shut up!” you laughed. “I hired a guy I went to school with to come out to mow and plow once a week and as needed. I use the mower to keep my trail growth down and the snowblower is hella cool.”
Jensen just stared at you as you turned onto your road.
“Stop looking at me like that, weirdo,” you pulled up to the gate and entered the, very particular to you and Jensen, code. You’d embraced your secret life, the one where you were a notable author with a hot and famous best friend, who had become your boyfriend. It was something like your own inside joke. If anyone had ever guessed how you were able to buy land and build a house, no one ever said anything to you. You found most people didn’t ask questions if they got paid well for their work and you were a generous tipper. Every little bit helps.
The gate came to life and rolled open, enhancing the anticipation. You really wanted him to like what you had created. When it opened and you pulled ahead and stopped for it to close before moving on. The driveway to your house was lit with small lights to lead the way. The house itself wasn’t visible from the road and you followed the driveway to the left and through the trees around a small hill. After the trees, the land opened up into a clearing where your house stood. Every time you drove through the trees and the house appeared, it struck you that the modern appearance of the home was so well complimented by its surroundings.
“Whoa. That’s… I don’t even know what…” Jensen sputtered.
“Good, though, right?” you were quite proud of your home.
“Yeah, I like it. I honestly didn’t know what to expect.”
You pulled around to the side where the garage doors were and parked in front of the middle door. When you hopped out and went to the hidden keypad by the door, Jensen crawled into the driver’s seat and pulled into the open garage space when the door fully opened. You went to the inside control panel to close the garage and turn on the lights.
The stark white interior was nearly blinding from driving in the dark for so long. Jensen had gotten out of the truck by then and was looking all around the inside of the garage. It didn’t take long for his eyes to land on the classic car in the third stall.
“What have we here?” he said, admiring the car.
He was about to cup his hands around his eyes to peek in the window when you said, “My dad’s car.”
Jensen immediately stood up straight without touching the car in the third stall. “Your dad’s?”
You nodded, “Mhm. I started looking for it before the pandemic. It was a bitch to do, but my aunt works in the treasurer’s office and hooked me up with the VIN. Made it a lot easier to track down.”
“Wait, this is his actual car?” You nodded. “How long was it gone? And what condition was it in when you got it?”
You sighed heavily. “It was in pretty bad shape. Dad sold it before I was even born. He loved it.” It was impossible to not be a little sad and a lot mad. You had put these details in letters you’d sent to Jensen in Austin. “She kept a lot more from you than I thought… I put all of this in the mail, Jay.” You tried to keep the anger out of your voice, but you knew it seeped in. If anything, you understood why she did it. You and Jensen were so close, but it still made you mad since you both had tried so hard to stay platonic.
He stood silent for a few moments, “Alright. Can we go inside and talk about this?”
He grabbed the bags out of the truck and followed you inside. You led him through the laundry room and into the main house. You noticed he looked around to take everything in. The house itself wasn’t huge, but you’d also gotten creative with the design. Hidden spaces, secret doors, everything you’d ever wanted in a house when you were a kid.
Jensen put the bags on the counter in the kitchen and started putting things away. You got out a couple plates and started making the two of you something to eat. Silently, you handed him a plate with a pb&j on it.
He sighed loudly, “I asked her if she – misplaced anything from you. She denied it. It wasn’t just her jealousy. It was the lying and manipulation that hurt the most. I’m ashamed to say that I started to believe it. There was a lot more I wasn’t even aware of.” He took a bite of the sandwich. “I asked what her relationship with Dan was,” he continued. “She insisted nothing was going on and that he was stalking her.”
“Did you believe her?”
“At that point, I didn’t know what was real and what was a lie. After that, I knew not to trust her word.”
“I wouldn’t believe a single word that comes out of her mouth in the future, either.” Jensen looked at you with an expression that told you he was done for the moment.
“Finish up and I’ll show you around the house,” you told him.
He took another bite and talked with his mouth full, “All I’m interested in is the bedroom.”
“Your mother will be shocked at your table manners, sir,” you said. “Also, you’re a perv.”
“Stop. You’re the perv. I was sweet and innocent until I met you,” he countered.
“So now it’s my fault you’re like this?”
“I said what I said,” he smirked, looking you over, his eyes resting on his favorite places.
You didn’t know what to say either to his words, or his scrutiny. “Alright then,” was all you could muster.
Jensen woke you up in the morning in the most pleasant way. Eventually, you both made use of your extra large, spa shower. You couldn’t help but stare at him. You stood in the shower and stretched as the hot water ran over your body. You could see the reflection of Jensen behind you at the 2nd separate shower. He was already looking at you like you were his next meal…again. You turned to face him and returned the gaze. He’d always been fit, but the muscle he’d put on for The Boys, and the work on the mountain had maintained it, was something to behold. He stood staring back at you as he washed his torso, a little, pleased smile on his face.
“You’re staring,” he noticed.
You rinsed your hair, “It’s like looking at a marble statue.” You stepped across the stall to where he stood, reaching out to trace the lines of the muscles on his arms, shoulders, and torso. “Are you going to keep these?”
He stepped backwards into the water to rinse the soap. Stepping forward again, he flexed a little, “You like ‘em?”
“I don’t mind ‘em. It’s kinda hot, but you’re just hot anyway,” you said. Your fingers traced the ‘V’ that formed at his waist, loving the sounds it elicited from him. “Love the hair and beard, too. The beard needs a bit of a trim, but still, dirty hot look for you definitely works for me.”
“Depends on the next role, but the beard is driving me crazy. Takes too much damn time to maintain. Same with this mop,” he said finishing up his routine. He suspected if he didn’t get out of the shower soon, they would need to wash up again.
“Such little butt, though. Nice shape. Not flat, but little,” you observed.
You turned to grab your conditioner and Jensen shut off the water on his side.
“Do you want me to keep it?” he asked.
“It’s good for ‘sports’ but I would have climbed that scrawny kid I knew way back in the day,” you said. “That sounds terrible.”
“Not everyone can have a perfect ass like you,” he said and gave your butt a solid smack, the sound amplified by your surroundings.
Reeling, not only from the stinging of your buttock, but also from the rush of heat to your lady parts. Rubbing the now hot skin on your butt, you called after him, “I still have you!”
He just laughed and added, “Touche!” as he wrapped a towel around his waist and left the bathroom. Almost as soon as he stepped out of the bathroom, something felt off. His clothes were in the bedroom and needed to grab the bag. Brushing the feeling aside, he walked through her closet into the bedroom. His peripheral vision caught the small dark figure near the door at the same time as a soft gasp met his ears, making him freeze in his tracks. His hand immediately went to his towel to make sure it didn’t go anywhere.
“Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my daughter’s house?” the woman asked.
He pushed his shaggy hair back off his forehead with his free hand and turned to look at Y|N’s tiny mother.
“Hi Deb,” he said, feeling very, very self-aware as it took her a moment to recognize him.
“J-Jensen?! Oh my god!” She quickly covered her eyes. “I didn’t know you kids were back in town. I was just coming over to check on the house, water the mail and check the plants. Oh god, you know what I mean! Where’s Y|N?”
If it had been happening to anyone else, he might have found it funny how Y|N clearly got some of her more amusing traits from her mother. Instead, he was beyond mortified that her mother had now seen him nearly naked and obviously sleeping with her daughter. “Finishing up in the shower,” he hated the awkward pause. Pointing back toward the bathroom, he said, “I’m just going to go…” he trailed off and took long strides back through the closet to the bathroom.
Y|N was out of the shower in a robe and was putting her hair up in a towel when he walked in.
“Babe,” he waited for her to look up. “Your mom is here,” he pointed, “IN your room.”
You looked at Jensen and how pink he looked and nearly naked. One plush towel was the only thing saving his modesty. The image of your disheveled bed flashed into your mind’s eye and you’d obviously just gotten out of the shower right after Jensen.
“I guess I don’t have to tell her we’re together,” you chuckled.
“Do you have another one of those robes?” he asked.
You shook your head. “I’ll be right back, you told him and gave him a quick kiss. “Don’t worry, Mom loves you.”
Quickly, you went to your room and gave your mom the “one second” hand signal, grabbed Jensen’s bag and took it to the bathroom for him. He mouthed a relieved “thank you” and took the bag from you. Back out in your room, your mom was still standing by the door waiting for you to return.
“Oh my god, honey, I didn’t know you were both here. I came in through the front door, I didn’t even know you were home. What happened out there? Is he okay? I think we were both pretty shocked,” she said all at once.
Your mom was well aware of what had been going on in Jensen’s personal life. Donna and she still talked fairly regularly. “It’s okay, Mom, he’ll live,” you chuckled. Your mom had a funny smile on her face. “How about you? Are you okay? Did you get an eyeful?” you teased.
She put her hand on your arm, “Honey.”
“I know,” you chuckled again.
“So you two got together finally?” She looked hopeful.
You smirked and thought of all the inappropriate things to say. “Yeah, we’re finally going to give ‘us’ a try. Please, don’t make a thing of it. I don’t want to jinx anything.”
“Y|N!” she smacked your arm. Her eyes went wide then a little teary.
“You’re making it weird,” you told her. “He wants me to go with him to Texas and wherever else he needs to go. Guess I can quit the grocery store now.”
“You could have anyway. You don’t need that job at all,” she reminded you.
“I like the structure,” you told her.
“You know, I tried to call you.”
“I know. Soldier Boy threw me in the river and it was in my pocket,” you explained. “I made him buy me a new one.”
“Soldier Boy?”
“The reason he looks Hulked out. He was at his batcave and the physical work kept the muscle. It’s kinda hot.”
“I’ll say,” she mumbled.
“I’m telling him you said that.”
“Don’t you dare!”
“Okay,” you laughed. “We’ll meet you downstairs, okay?”
You shuffled her out the door and gently closed it behind her. When you heard her on the steps, you went back to your bathroom. Jensen stood in there, fully dressed, looking like he was finding stuff to do until it was safe for him to step out.
“Smells expensive in here. Did you try all of my products, or just the ones that you thought smelled nice?” you asked.
He was studying the bottles of perfume. Finding the one he was looking for, he picked it up and showed it to you saying, “This one is my favorite. Warm and spicy, like you.”
“That’s my favorite, too,” you admitted. It was one you had found in one of the little shops near your hotel when you visited him in Rome. “I told my mom we would come down to talk with her. She’s going to want to know what the plan is for Texas and after.” You took the bottle of perfume from him and opened your robe to spray it on your body and put it back on the vanity.
“If we make it out of this room,” he said, snaking his hands inside the robe and pulling you to him. His hands moved over your bare skin.
“Don’t start something you can’t finish, Ackles,” you warned him.
His full lips met yours, parting for his tongue to gently mingle with yours, stoking the embers that seemed to always be threatening to ignite around him. His right hand went up your back between your shoulder blades while his left reached down to grasp your ‘perfect’ flesh. Your heart raced in your chest despite the somewhat tender moment. He broke the kiss, but held you still, not wanting to fully break the moment.
“Love you like crazy, Nova,” his eyes were closed, forehead touching yours.
Despite the heat from your body and his, his deep voice and breath on your face gave you goosebumps. “Love you so much, my sweet boy.” You smiled with your eyes closed as your hand went up the back of his neck.
“You better put some clothes on before we go down,” he said, sounding a little like Dean, his lips brushing your forehead before he kissed you.
He left you standing there in a little daze to collect yourself and get ready as quickly as you could to meet with your mother.
Mercifully, by the time you and Jensen went down to the kitchen, your mother had rallied and was pretending like she hadn’t just seen Jensen nearly naked. She was looking through the cupboards for something.
“Honey, where’s your Keurig pods?” she asked after hearing you enter the kitchen, but she still kept opening cupboard doors.
You went to the pantry and showed her what you had for your selections.
“You don’t have any coffee?” she asked.
“I only keep that around for you. When you were here last, you used the last one. We only got here last night, so I haven’t gone to the store yet.”
You thought you heard a grumble from behind you.
“I didn’t know you would be here either,” you said over your shoulder to Jensen.
“Well, how long are you kids going to be in town? Do you want to put in an order at the store? I could go pick it up for you,” she offered.
You moved to the end of the island to stand next to where Jensen was sitting.
“We haven’t really talked about how long we will be here. Jensen needs to go back to Texas to deal with some stuff and I want to go with him. We’re not in a huge rush to get down there, but we do need to go, soonish.”
Jensen nodded. “We didn’t get much of a chance to talk about it on the way here. I was thinking we could ease into it. Take care of as much as we can here, then go down, maybe in a week or less.”
“I think it’s going to be crazy once we get into the full swing of your career,” you looked at him.
“Um, your career is doing pretty well. I’ll probably be the one keeping up with you,” he said.
Your mom looked at you with wide eyes. “Are you going to go public? You, Y|N, with who you really are? I mean about your writing.”
You nodded. “At some point. That’ll make my manager and agent very happy…and publisher.”
Your mom clasped her hands together. “Oh thank god. Please do it soon! It has been so hard to keep this a secret for so long, especially from your brother. I think he suspects something but I don’t know what.”
“Drug dealer,” you joked.
Jensen perked up, “You didn’t tell him that, did you?”
“No,” you admitted, “but he probably thinks that.”
“No, he doesn’t,” your mom admonished, “but he will draw that conclusion soon if you don’t tell him soon. He wondered how you were able to build this house. So far, he’s buying your NRC cover.”
“The government pays well,” you noted.
“Be that as it may, you’ve got to at least tell your brother the truth,” she said.
“So he can ask for even more money?” you grumbled. “It would be one thing if it weren’t so frequent.”
“I’ll handle him, even if you don’t tell him. His feelings will be hurt if you don’t tell him before you go public.”
You looked at Jensen. He shrugged, “Deb has a point.”
“Yeah, I know,” you admitted. It had been a long time since it all began. He didn’t really ‘deserve’ to know, in your opinion, but he should know, you supposed. “I guess I better make a to-do list of shit to get done while we’re here.”
“I know, and he’s terrible about keeping a secret. Anyway, I should go,” your mom said. “You two probably have a lot to take care of while you’re here.” She picked up her purse. “Let me know if you need me to run any errands for you.”
“Thanks, Mom,” you said.
She patted Jensen’s shoulder, “I was always rooting for you kiddo. I’m happy for you both.”
Your mom was going to leave it at that, but Jensen turned toward her. “Thanks, Deb,” he said and hugged her. “I feel like we’ve gotten closer today.”
They parted and your mom was blushing again.
“I’m so sorry, I was just so surprised,” she said.
Jensen chuckled, “Don’t worry about it. It was good to see you.”
“It was good to see you, too,” she said innocently. Then the realization of the double meaning washed over her features before she practically ran to the door.
“Now I understand where you get it,” Jensen smiled.
“She’s my mom, not blind. She’s always appreciated a hot guy,” you told him. You reached out to touch his neck. “This grizzly look is working, big time.”
“I don’t know if I can wait for Texas to get this cut. Do you have any scissors, razors, clippers or anything?” he asked.
“I do, but you’re getting the dullest ones I have,” you told him. You sighed, “We can probably get some at the store when we get groceries.”
You could feel the cosmic pressure to get back to work coming from your agent, publisher, and manager. You gave Jensen a quick tour of the house but you eventually ended up at your desk in your office. You tapped the ctrl button a few times to wake up your system. Jensen left for a few moments while you opened your emails. You knew he’d noticed your secret, but you waited and kept reading.
After you answered a couple emails, Jensen reappeared to ask, “What’s with this wall?”
You tried to look confused, “It’s a bookshelf? I think I need one of those cool rolling ladder things.”
“You should definitely do that,” he pointed a finger at you for emphasis, but turned back toward the wall of shelves. “But…something is off…”
“What do you mean? Is something out of place?” you got up to join him. He was so close to discovering your secret.
Jensen scanned the shelves until his eyes fell on a book that seemed out of place from the others.
“Nova, you are the coolest chick I’ve ever known.” He stepped forward and tipped his head to the side to read the spine of one of the books. “Aerospace Engineering. Now I know you do a lot of research, and are smart as hell, but I read all of the Whiskey Hollow books and Bart wasn’t engineering shit.”
“Okay, smartass. How about you check the inside cover. It’s inscribed to me,” you gave him a playful shove.
Jensen reached for the top of the book to pull it off the shelf. When he grasped the top corner of the book and began to pull, there was a soft click and the bookshelf moved.
“No you did not do a secret library door! Where does it go? Can I go in? There isn’t a trapdoor for me to fall through is there? I can’t believe you Scooby-Doo’d your office.”
You went to the bookcase and pushed on the right side while pulling on the left. The bookcase moved easily and quietly opened like a regular door. It locked into the open position and the lights inside the room turned on to reveal both a spiral staircase going down and a room you had turned into a quiet office for your zoom meetings. It worked great for the meetings where you needed to focus and not get distracted, looking out the window.
It was cute to watch him. He looked like a kid in a candy store. The walls in the open space of the room were covered in a mural of muted greens and grays, displaying a misty forest scene and the lighting was adjustable to your mood.
Jensen stuck his head inside the booth and poked around looking at the mic and camera, but his eyes kept going toward the staircase.
“There is a trapdoor next to the staircase, but it isn’t a drop door,” you said as you motioned to the stairs, “After you, sir.”
Jensen went to the spiral staircase and looked down into the darkness.
“Make sure you use the handrail,” you told him.
Eager to discover more surprises, he rested his hand on the rail and began the descent. The lights turned on and got brighter as he went down each step. He immediately stopped, lifted his hands and took another stop to test his theory. He then ran his hands up and down the rails and the lights dimmed or brightened with the motions.
“Coo-ooo-ool,” he said then ambled all the way down the stairs which ended facing directly into the big surprise you’d incorporated into your house, just for him. “You did this for me?”
He went to look at each guitar, instrument and piece of equipment you had gathered for his in-home recording studio.
“How? Why? Babe… this is too much,” he said, though his voice was still far away, exploring and marveling at the gift.
“I hoped,” you began, “I hoped, that someday, you would be here and could use it. And… that you and I would be where we are now… You probably don’t even know you sing along to the radio, like, all the time. If you’re not singing, it’s humming. I wanted you to have a place like this where you could be creative if you wanted to. You never know when inspiration might hit.”
He was still quiet looking at things, “I tried to involve you in this, but I called some guys you know and they helped me pick out the right pieces and equipment,” you explained. “I didn’t mean for this to be a surprise. I just wanted you to be happy here. Happy to come visit.”
Jensen put down the acoustic guitar he’d been strumming and crossed the floor to where you stood watching him. He stood over you looking down into your eyes. You saw they had gone a deep green color as he looked into yours. His hands cupped your face and neck as he spoke softly to you.
“I want you to hear me and take this to heart, my Nova, as long as you’re with me, I’m a happy guy. I hope I never made you feel like I didn’t want to be around you. Hell, I even asked you to move closer to me,” he pulled you to him, his lips pressing to yours, one arm around you, the other touching your face. “I’m sorry I wasn’t around when you needed me, but I promise, I’m all yours.” He turned his head to the side, leaning down to kiss you again.
He broke the kiss but didn’t pull away. You were still floating somewhere close to heaven with your eyes still closed.
“It was Steve, wasn’t it?” his voice rumbled, breath on your face. His fingertip traced your lower lip.
“Steve who?” you were in a love daze.
“Carlson,” he kissed your jaw near your ear.
“Mhm,” you ran your hand through his hair, “and Jason, too.”
He moved to your neck and you wrapped your arms around his shoulders. “You’re mine.”
“They really liked helping me,” you prodded. “They’ve even been here before you. …and stayed overnight.”
“Never again,” he said against your neck, his beard scratching your skin.
“You’re not jealous, are you?” you asked, playfully.
The way he rocked and swayed with your body, it almost felt like you were dancing.
“You’ll never have to wonder where I am, or how much I love you, ever again,” he said.
“Why are you so sweet to me?”
“I give back what I receive,” he said simply, kissing you softly. “You set a high bar.”
You composed yourself and remembered you needed to get back to work.
“Hey, give it all a try and the amps. I won’t be able to hear a thing with the soundproofing,” you went back toward the stairs. “I really need to get back to work.”
He gave you a look of longing, but also a thumbs-up as a signal that he heard you and was already looking at his options. When you got upstairs, you left open the bookcase so you could hear him anyway. He could sing the alphabet and you would want to hear him. Steve and Jason had both been at your house at the same time for one visit and they had their own little jam session down there to test out all of the equipment. With all of the soundproofing, being in the basement, and closing the bookcase, you’d forgotten they were even there until they emerged several hours later.
Once you’d gotten resettled at your desk, you were disappointed to find that your unread emails and open documents were still there, unread and unfinished. Resolving to at least get through your emails, you trained your focus to your computer screen.
When the emails were all read and responses sent, you decided to take a break at your desk and listen to the music coming from below. You heard the last of “The Sounds of Someday” before he started “City Grown Willow”.
The lyrics to “City Grown Willow” had always resonated with you and you didn’t know why. It just felt like it was mean for your ears. It just hit differently now. The video he and Steve had done… the lyrics… it was almost like he’d been calling out to you with the song. You passed off the notion as wishful thinking and got back to work on the screenplay. It would be the introduction of Hobart and Lillian to the viewers who may not be familiar with the books, but also, you wanted to stay somewhat true to the first book, while assuming the viewers half-way know what’s going on in the universe.
The software package you bought was a life-saver and you were flying through pages and pages of script. Dialog had always been easy for you. Hearing the character’s voices had always been very clear for you. Thankfully, describing setting didn’t need to be wildly descriptive and it was the content of the scenes that were more important.
Whiskey Hollow had lived in your mind for years, but it was somewhat difficult to reintroduce the characters because they had come so far since the beginning. Thankfully, you still had your written notes and outlines from your original book and that was an incredible help. With your notes handy, you wouldn’t reveal too much, too soon.
It wasn’t until Jensen arrived with a bowl of cereal and a drink that you realized how much time had passed or that he’d even left the studio.
“Figured you might need that,” he said, pulling up a chair to eat with you.
“I’m sorry, Jay, I got in a groove and I had to go with it,” you explained.
“No worries,” he waved you off. “I got carried away down there, too. You did great with it. Whole thing,” he waved his hand in a circle, “A plus.”
“Well, you can thank Jason and Steve. They were a big help.”
“It was your idea. So I’m thanking you. I can’t believe you did that.”
You only shrugged. It didn’t seem extreme to you. You’d only wanted a space for Jensen to be creative in a way you knew he would love and not be held back by anything it could be lacking…but you did realize the truth of it.
“I think that, though my brain knew we were not a couple, my heart didn’t listen and wanted…to express my love for you,” you couldn’t believe you admitted it out loud. “Some people’s love language is touch, mine is outlandish gifts.”
He nodded as he chewed his cereal. “I know you don’t love people touching you, pretty much ever, but I love that you let me. Touch is my language and… it makes me feel important, special, that you shower me with your attention.” He took another bite of cereal, “I put a lot of what’s going on in here,” he tapped his temple, “into the songs I write with Steve. It’s not a love language, exactly, but… it also is.”
“What do you mean?”
“I know you’ve heard me perform. I’ve seen your vinyls of mine…” he was getting shy. “Do you have a favorite song?”
“Off My Mind,” you answered quickly.
Jensen smiled, “Yeah, that’s a good one. We ran with that one. I was feeling a certain kind of way with that one.”
“Did you write that?”
“It was mostly Steve, but I put in my two cents. Any others, maybe off volume 2?” he asked.
““City Grown Willow”,” you answered.
“"City Grown Willow" is about you,” he said simply.
“What?”
“Us,” he said, pointing back and forth between you and himself.
When you just sat staring at him in confusion and disbelief, he continued, “That video call, that one in December 2019.”
“The one where you didn’t get my spot on Edna Mode impression?”
“I know who she is now. Good movie.”
“I know…”
“Can I tell you this or not?”
“I’m sorry, please, go on,” you chuckled.
“After that call, it kicked things in motion. You were on my mind a lot and I needed time to process. Wrote the song to kind of push things out and into being.”
You remembered that call quite well and what he’d just said made you ask, “So talking to me made you realize that you had love feelings for me. You tried to stay with Dee, ultimately divorcing. Then you write the song. Then you go out and shag everything with boobs. Get into a situation. Text me the most cryptic text you’ve ever sent, and that’s saying something, and went into hiding hoping I would come find you.”
“When you put it like that, it doesn’t sound as good. We can edit that when our grandkids ask us about our story.”
“We’re having grandkids?”
Jensen shrugged and took a drink of the milk in his bowl. “We’ve been ‘shagging’ like rabbits for weeks…I know I wasn’t using anything, were you?”
“Holy crap,” you said. “I didn’t even think about it. I’m getting a little – seasoned. We better get to the store and pick up some tests, just in case. I didn’t think you wanted kids, Jay.”
“I didn’t think I did. I didn’t think it would be a good idea until now,” he said.
“What changed your mind?” you wanted to know.
“The right partner,” he answered. He seemed apprehensive, “I want you to know it’s okay if we don’t. I know you went through stuff with Dan…”
“For the record, before you say more, you came for me when I needed you, too. And while I was very sad to lose that pregnancy, I didn’t want to have a child with him. I felt really guilty about that for a long time, but I knew he wasn’t the one.”
“--are we doing this?” he asked.
“I don’t know. This is kind of out of nowhere, Jay. I don’t even know if my body can handle it at this point. What if I decide you’re a douchebag and kick you to the curb? What if I’m not the best thing since sliced bread and you decide you want soup?”
“Sweetheart, I’m a sandwich guy and that’s not gonna change. Not now, not ever,” he said with finality.
“You’re such a dork, though! Oh my god. What if I’m pregnant right now and this kid gets your sense of humor? I don’t know if I could take it from two of you!”
“You’d love it,” he said playfully.
You avoided his gaze for a few moments, feeling a little overwhelmed. You hadn’t even thought about your cycle since before you left. You didn’t even know if you could have kids at this point in your life. It was possible, of course, but risky. “Jay, let’s not rush things, okay? I… I’m a little skittish after everything. Dan and Grant and all of the other disasters, I just… they all cheated on me and treated me like shit, used me for whatever reason… As my friend, I trust you implicitly…”
“I understand,” he raised a hand, as though to indicate, ‘say no more’. “I don’t want to rush either. I’m just saying if it happens, I’m going to be happy about it, and if it doesn’t, I’m good, too. I love what we have going on right now, too.”
“Are you sure?”
“Babe. I promise. You can trust me. Always.”
“Okay.”
“Let’s go get some groceries,” he said.
“Hold on now,” you said, finishing your cereal and milk. “How long do you plan on being here? I don’t want to buy a bunch of food only to throw it out.”
He leaned back in his chair, extending his legs to go across your lap. Absently, your hands rested on his legs. Jensen stretched his whole body shit his hands clasped on top of his head.
“How does staying the week and leaving on Saturday morning sound? IF we drive all day, we’d get there Saturday night.”
“Do you have your own place down there, or did you get to keep the house?” you asked.
“I let her keep the house,” he said. “It was never really mine. She picked just about everything. I got a little place on Lake Austin. It’s small, but it is secure, has a good view and access to the lake.”
“What did you do with the Impala,” you were suddenly fearful. “You still have it, right? Tell me she didn’t try to take it from you.”
“No, I made it clear there would be pushback if she tried. Clif is looking after it for me, for now. Also, she wanted a prenup and I signed it. I don’t go after her stuff, nor she mine. Another reason I didn’t want to have kids with her.”
“What do you mean?”
“If we’d had a kid, she could get half of my shit and alimony and child support.”
A thought sprung to your mind and you didn’t know if you should ask it or not.
“I can see your wheels spinning. Just ask.”
“Is there any-thing that is going to come back and bite you in the ass?” you asked.
“No?” he pulled his legs from your lap.
“Jay… I don’t trust her. I just get the feeling this isn’t over with her. She’s going to lose her mind when she finds out about us.”
“She can be mad all she wants. Divorce was final four months ago.”
“Okay, let’s go get some food,” you said, not wanting to discuss it any further. You just couldn’t shake that feeling of dread regarding anything to do with his ex wife. She didn’t strike you as one to give up on someone she wanted, or let go of a goal. She played the long-con for years and did what she could to keep you away from Jensen during that time.
“Can we make your pasta?” he asked.
You grabbed your bowl. “I told you you’d get hooked on it.”
Jensen drove you both into town to the local grocery store. Your little town has changed a lot over the years, including the grocery store. When you were growing up, there were two stores. Nowe there was only one and it was in a brand new building and location.
Jensen wore jeans, t-shirt, sneakers and a trucker hat. He looked funny with his hair smashed down and his beard sticking out. It was the little things that mattered though. He took your hand when you walked through the parking lot. Little touches as you shopped. The need to be separate, to hide your feelings, was gone.
People said hello to you both. Jensen got some second looks, but nothing to make them stop and ask questions. A few of the people you worked with stopped to chat and Jensen continued on shipping. When he found you again, your former boss, former classmate, and former neighbor, Brian was chatting you up.
“You look great, Y|N. You look really happy. What have you been doing?” he asked.
Apparently, Brian hadn’t noticed Jensen approaching. You turned at the sound of the cart and Jensen making noise as he got closer. Somehow, he’d taken on a rougher version of Dean, one who’d seen too much and he looked quite imposing.
“Me. She’s been doing me, Brian,” he said reading his nametag.
The blush in your face was rising. He could never just be cool when a guy was talking to you.
“Brian, this is Jay. Jay, this is Brian, whom I just told I quit. I’ve also known him since we were kids,” you introduced your guy to your friend.
“Huh. Me too,” Jensen said. “Good to meet you, Brian.” He extended his hand to the other man. “Baby, I got us set for the week. Are you ready to go home?” his voice was full Dean and half an octave lower.
Dominance Asserted.
“Yes, hon, I’m ready. Did you find what you wanted?” you replied.
“Sure did,” he planted a kiss on you. He pulled you and the cart with him, leaving Brian behind you.
The two of you went to the register and a high school kid you didn’t know rang up your selections. She was quick and friendly and barely gave Jensen any attention. You paid and thanked her and left with Jensen pushing the cart to the truck.
“Jay? You good?” you were putting bags into the back of the truck.
“Do you know everyone here?” he asked.
You nodded, “Kinda. It’s a pretty small town and I did work here… Didn’t like Brian, huh?”
He shook his head, “Nope. He was looking at you like you were a full meal after being half-starved.”
“Seriously? I’ve known him since his family came to town. Literally my next-door neighbor.”
“Yep, dead serious. Maybe he didn’t ‘see’ you then, but he does now. Does Br-i-an know how you wrecked your friend’s bike when you were seven?”
Jensen put the cart away with emphasis. It crashed to a stop in the coral.
“Jay!” he stopped in front of you. “Only my immediate family, Lance’s family, and you know about that accident. My love,” you patted his chest, “wild horses couldn’t take me from you, you know that, right?”
He grumbled, “Nova, I don’t think you realize how hot you are. You could wear a burlap sack and I’d still want to do dirty things with you. People are always drawn to you. Friggin Glen practically ran to talk to you.”
“Glen is an old man,” you laughed, “and you were being an aloof mountain man. I think he was worried for me.”
“Old, not dead,” he said.
“Ooookay, I think you’re blowing things out of proportion. I know who I’m going home with and it sure as shit isn’t Brian…who is a total douche, by the way. Constantly cheats on his wife. And definitely not with crusty Glen. I’m the one who is supposed to be neurotic, not you.”
He sighed heavily, “It’s just that… I’ll tell you later. Let’s get out of here.”
At your house, you and Jensen got the groceries put away and he’d gotten back to his normal self. You hadn’t forgotten what he’d said and your curiosity was killing you. It had gotten close enough to dinner that the two of you could start preparing food.
Jensen helped cut the tomatoes while Y|N did the rest of the food prep. She hated cutting the tomatoes and it was the least he could do to help out if she was willing to do the rest. By the time the water was boiling, he had half of the tomatoes done and in the bowl where she was steadily adding the green onions and other ingredients. When the tomatoes were added to the bowl, he excused himself to get cleaned up for dinner and grabbed the bag that held his purchases from the pharmacy.
Upstairs in the bathroom he pulled the boxes out of the bag and saw the pregnancy tests at the bottom. He wasn’t entirely sure he wanted to be a father, but if Y|N was pregnant, he was happy to be a parent with her. Seeing them also reminded him of things he didn’t want to remember. He had to tell himself that Y|N was not at all like Dee and wouldn’t do what she had done. Normally, he was a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, but the last few years had severely tested his resolve.
He set up the clippers and got to work. He didn’t take off too much since he didn’t know what the next job would need… if he got another job. He just hoped there would be a next job. Tomorrow, he would start making calls. Hopefully his career was salvageable.
Y|N had asked him if he wanted to retire. He supposed she asked because she already knew the answer. He didn’t want to retire and she had already pulled him out of headspace that had been quickly going down that path. It was hard being around her again and not think about all of the things Dee had been trying to brainwash him with. Despite knowing Y|N so well and trusting her, Dee had managed to cast doubt inside him.
“Everything is going to work out,” Y|N had told him. “Tomorrow, I’m going to show you how to use everything and you’re going to get back on track. Maybe you can finally start that production company you’ve always wanted to do, too. Maybe quietly start developing shows, actively look for new ideas and writers who are also in love with you.”
Dee had never said anything like that to him, never been so encouraging. He should have known not to doubt Y|N. She was always in his corner and had never waivered. He flipped on the clippers and set about taming his overgrown beard. There was no denying she made him happy. Hell, he couldn’t get enough of her. All he wanted to do was be around her, to touch her, to love her. It was nice to shower affection on her and have it returned rather than withheld. After all she had been through, it seemed like she needed it, too. Maybe they just needed it from one another.
You took the candle stick holders from the mantle and put them on the table in the dining room. The pasta definitely wasn’t a romantic dinner, but you wanted to make it special somehow. Jensen was probably going to be very busy in the lead up to going back to Texas and you had a lot of writing you needed to get done. That morning was a good start, but there was so much more to do.
You were busy getting the candles set up and the bowls dished when Jensen reappeared, looking very over-dressed for a simple home meal. And yet, also slightly casual. He was rolling up the sleeves on a white, button down shirt, which was neatly tucked into black dress pants. No belt. No socks. Somehow, he’d managed to tame his glorious mane of hair and had it brushed back from his face. His tan skin enhancing his good looks and green eyes.
“Whoa,” you heard yourself say.
He looked up with his eyes and gave you a wry smile as he finished cuffing his sleeve.
“I am wildly underdressed…It’s really not fair that you make this whole combo look so fucking hot. Absolutely ridiculous.”
“You can take your clothes off,” he put his hands in his pockets, not moving from the dining room entry. He could see you thinking about going to change your clothes. “No. Not change. Off. Or as you are.”
Goddaaaaaamn. He raised an eyebrow in question at you. “I choose my modesty, I guess.”
“Hmm.” He entered the room and pulled a chair out for you to sit at the head of the table. He pulled the palm of your hand to his lips, your fingers touching his beard, which felt softer.
The man made you feel giddy inside. Of course, you’d been friends forever and he’d always given your heart a rush, but your relationship had shifted dramatically the day you found him at his cabin.
“Jay – you don’t have to try to be someone else for me, you know that, right?” you asked. “You don’t have to be Dean, or anyone else. I just want my friend and confidant.
Jensen seated himself to your right. “I’m not trying to be anyone else. Now that you and I are together, I get to show you all sides of me…the ones I couldn’t show you until you found me on that mountain.”
You took a bit of food and reached for his hand. He took it and held it on the table. “You held back?”
He nodded, “Mhm, big time.” His thumb stroked the top of your hand.
“Me, too,” you admitted. “Like every time. Was it like that for you, too?”
He nodded again, taking a smaller bite, “Had to.”
A couple of bites passed with him holding your hand on the table top. “Were you –in love–with me–the whole time, too? Cuz–I was–with you.”
Jensen let go of your hand, used his napkin, then leaned way over to kiss you. “Mhm.”
It took you a few moments to collect yourself after that. You knew you would never get tired of hearing him say things like that to you. When your heart and stomach stopped jittering, you got out your phone  and told your sound system to play music. You and Jensen chatted over your meal and you were using your elbow and the palm of your hand to hold up your head. You couldn’t help but stare at him. His skin was tan, hair somewhat lightened due to being in the sun, his green eyes shining. White button down shirt highlighting his already ridiculously good looks. The music was playing and invading your thoughts while you appreciated the view.
“Can you dance like John Travolta?” you asked.
His fork stopped before reaching his lips, “What?”
“You heard me.”
“Only John Travolta can dance like John Travolta.”
“Hmm,” you smirked. “Stayin’ Alive’ was playing when it finally hit you who Jensen had been reminding you of with his glorious mane. “Barry Fucking Gibb!”
“Maurice Gibb,” he said confused. “The hell are we doing, naming BeeGees?”
You sat staring at him, both shocked and proud of yourself for finally pin-pointing who he’d been reminding you of.
“Oh my god!” you laughed and clapped your hands over your mouth. “No! You’re reminding me of Barry Gibb!”
“That’s not funny.”
“Yes it fucking is!’ you laughed. “Oh god, do I think Barry Gibb is hot?”
“That’s it, it’s coming off tomorrow,” he grumped.
You sat considering his thick hair. You’d really gotten to like running your fingers through it. “We could really complete the look with a spectacular blowout.”
“Woman, if you come near me with a blow dryer, I swear…”
“You’ll spank me?”
He put his fork down and wiped his mouth. “You’re filthy. You’ve spent too much time around ex-cops and ex-military.”
“No, I’ve always been like this, I just couldn’t say it before. You always had a lady on your arm,” you paused, “Does it bother you?”
He smirked, “No. I guess not. Guess we need to get to know each other again.”
“In a new way,” you agreed.
When you woke the next morning, it was not to Jensen’s kisses. He wasn’t even in the bed with you. You’d reached to touch the spot where he had lain and it was cold. Still waking up. Your brain wasn’t processing information. You looked around trying to figure out where he’d gone. Only briefly, you wondered if you’d dreamed it all. Then the sound of a song softly sung reached your ears. It wasn’t quite the deeper tone of Steve’s voice, but you recognized “Off My Mind” right away.
Getting out of bed, you went into your bathroom and found Jensen in front of the mirror with the trashcan on the counter under him. He hummed the song when he was on his neck, then would vocalize the lyrics when he cleaned the counter of the bits that missed the trash.
Catching you watching, he said, “Good morning, Sunshine.”
You thought maybe you grunted in response. Jensen asked, “You gonna miss it?” He was taking off what was left of the beard. He turned the clippers back on and another soft plop of beard landed in the bin.
Moving to where he stood, you leaned against the counter with your back to the mirror. You’d caught a glimpse of yourself and were not impressed. You shrugged slightly, “It’ll be nice to see your face again. Are you taking it all off?”
“I was thinking I’d leave some. Dean still looks back at me sometimes,” he said. “I should have just taken it all off last night. Thought I’d be able to stand it a little longer.”
“Do you miss him?” you asked.
He nodded and continued taking the beard down to a thin layer.
“I miss him, too. It’s okay with me if he shows up once in a while. It was really hard watching that last episode,” you paused, remembering. “I probably won’t ever watch it again, though.”
“That bad?”
“That traumatizing,” you said. You could feel yourself getting emotional. “Not only did I have to watch Dean die, I felt like I was watching you die, too. You and Dean are so intertwined, it felt so real. To have Dean go out like that… the writers did you dirty. I get why they did it, but I hate it! Dean deserved to be happy and have a life, too.” The tears were welling up. “If you ever bring him back, please, let someone love him. Someone who loves him for exactly who he is.” The tears broke over your cheeks.
He took a step to the side to hold you, “Baby, I had no idea you felt that way.”
“I know!” you mumbled into his chest, still crying. “You had me on radio silence and I had to suffer alone.”
“He had to die sometime,” he rubbed your back.
“Not like that! Not so young! They barely left room for you guys to come back. And don’t give me that bullshit about COVID and needing to make changes. They did not need to kill Dean in a dirty BARN with a random piece of absurdly large rebar in shitty lighting. Give me Dabb’s phone number.”
He squeezed you once more before letting you go and resuming shaving.
“I’m not giving you his number,” he said.
“Well…okay,” you sputtered, “but I’m going to fix it. I’m gonna plot out a whole thing and my sweet Dean will live.”
“Like fan fiction?” he asked, still shaving. Large clumps of beard falling into the trash can.
“No, not like fan fiction, butthole. Like a fully plotted out, written scripts that will fucking resolve that bullshit.”
“Don’t you have a whole movie to write?” he asked.
“Listen, Ackles,” you gave him tone and he grinned knowing he zinged you. “O’ll make it happen. Just you wait.”
“Okay,” he chuckled. “You do that. Can I help plot it out with you?”
“Of course!” you were feeling better now and excited about the prospect of potentially bringing your favorite character back to life.
Jensen put the final guard on the clippers and ran it over his face. He made sure he got any long pieces he may have missed, then cleaned up the mess he’d made on the counter. You were patiently waiting for him to show you his face. It still surprised you how long his hair had gotten, though.
“How long were you growing out your hair, for real?” you asked. “You were up there a couple months, but this grow out is a good six months or more.”
“About that,” he agreed.
“Do you want me to take some length off? I have scissors somewhere,” you offered. “Can’t guarantee it’ll look good, but I’ll leave enough a pro can fix it.”
“Knock yourself out,” he agreed and sat on your vanity chair.
Grabbing a towel, all of your hair clips, brush and comb, you got ready to cut Jensen’s hair. You draped the towel around his shoulders and reached around from behind to clip the towel together in front of him.
She brushed his hair, running her fingers through with each pass. Her nails scratched his scalp as she seemingly massaged his head.
“Mm. Your scalp is tense. How is your scalp tense?”
“Might be because I have a nearly naked woman dancing around and touching me all over,” he remarked.
She looked down at her bare legs under his shirt. “So…if I lifted my arms above my head like this,” she flashed him, “that do anything for ya?”
It really did. He didn’t know why it was so hot when women wear their partner’s clothes, but it was. The shape of her ass just barely concealed.
“Yep. Like it. Like it a lot,” he was trying not to think about it.
“Oh…okay,” she said, and he knew she would tease him the whole time she cut his hair.
She brushed it back and tried his hair in different styles. He just let her do her thing until she could picture the style she wanted.
“Too bad, Barry Gibb is pretty hot on you,” she teased and got to sectioning his hair.
When she was done, he’d gotten his face full of her at least three times, and two views of her butt in the mirror. She took off about three inches of hair from all over his head. She brushed it again and checked her work, looking for missed, long hairs. She then got out the clippers and shaved his neck and evened out the line of hair. He was then given a mirror so she could check the final product while she cleaned up the floor gracing him with one luxurious view of her backside.
“That’s a lot of hair, hon,” she said, putting the clippings in the trash. “So?”
“Actually, not bad.”
“Really, or are you trying not to hurt my feelings?” she asked.
“Baby, I would tell you,” he assured her.
“Alright, let’s get some breakfast going. Then I can show you how to use all of the equipment,” she said.
After breakfast, you showed Jensen all of the things and where you kept your cheat sheets for him to use if needed. He seemed to catch on fairly quickly and you left him to it so you could get your own work done. Almost as soon as you got on your computer, you got a zoom call from your manager, Eleanor Mitchellhill.
“It’s very early in the day, Eleanor,” you answered the phone. An icy chill flowed through your screen.
“It’s not early here Y|N,” she snipped in her British accent. “Where the hell have you been? It took you longer than a couple weeks.”
“I was in an undisclosed location spending time with my friend who needed me,” you explained.
“Does this friend have a name?” she pressed.
“Elle…,” you stalled, “I don’t think you need his name yet.”
“Oh, I see,” she drew out the word. “It’s a he. Is this man the reason you’re practically glowing?” she wanted to know.
“You could say that,” you nodded.
“Well, whatever fuels your fire, I suppose,” she acquiesced. “We will come back to this soon enough.”
“I don’t need a background check, Elle,” you said, “but you’re right, we will need to talk about him later. I need a week. He needs to go to Texas.”
“And you need to go with him?” she guessed.
You sighed, “Elle, it’s complicated and yes, I’m going with him.”
“Can’t wait to hear about it in a week,” she said, dryly. “Right, let’s talk. For the love of all that is holy, when are we going to get you in the public eye? You’re cute as a button and the people will just eat you up. And my god, when they know about the mystery series…” she kissed her fingertips. “Perfection.”
“About that, I want to go public with the mystery series pen name first. The romance one, I don’t want to do yet. And I want to go public with the mystery one when the movie is about to release. Like, on the promotion circuit.”
“I suppose you’ve already talked to Jan about this?” she asked.
You nodded, “She’s aware. I also told her that when I get this script done, I want Jensen Ackles to get a shot at playing Hobart. So if he does, you’re gonna be okay with it.”
Eleanor leaned back in her chair, “Why would I need to do that?”
“He’s my friend, Elle, and I based the character on him. There really isn’t anyone better to play him.”
Eleanor sat quietly, just staring at you while she thought. “Alright. Now get that script done. And as soon as you get to Texas, I expect a call, immediately, Y|N.”
“Understood,” you confirmed.
After a few more calls and answered emails, you were able to get in some steady work and the words flew from your fingertips into the script. It was like you were putting what you could see so clearly in your head into the script. You still had the notes from when you wrote the first book so it flowed really well. The story of Whiskey Hollow was precious to you and it would have been hard for you to let anyone take over writing the script for the movie adaptation. You just hoped that what you were creating would be appealing to whichever studio wanted the script. Jan, your agent, would be working hard to find takers and you wanted to give it your best effort.
A few days later, you and Jensen had put in three very long days doing all manner of work on your script and getting his affairs in order. You had written a ton in the script and were nearing completion, but something had come up that needed to be dealt with. Your brother and mom were coming over and you were not looking forward to finally telling him your big secret.
You sat on the couch in your living room with a notebook and pen, jotting down a few words here and there as Jensen looked around while he waited. He liked to look at your things. He did it a lot when he would visit in the past. You supposed he just liked to get to know you by the items you kept, as well.
He turned toward the mantle. The light from outside shone on some glass pieces that had caught his eye. Stepping closer he realized the sparkle came from one of the crystal candlestick holders he’d sent her as a housewarming gift from himself and Danneel. Dee hadn’t wanted to sign the card, but he’d insisted. With one candlestick was the glass orb his mom had gifted her years ago and the Swarovski star he’d left for her at her apartment. Behind the glass art was a picture frame that held multiple pictures.
He needed to step closer to get a better look.
“Need my glasses?”  Y|N asked from the couch.
“Hush,” he returned. The pictures were of his family on various occasions through the years. He didn’t remember some of them.
“Where was I for this one?” he pointed to the picture in the top right location.
She put down her pen and paper to join him.
“Oh, I think you were in …shit…wherever Dawson’s Creek filmed… North Carolina?” she put her hand on his back. “Your mom said I was welcome to come by anytime I was in Dallas, so I did.”
“You did? How often did you go?” he was surprised she would go to his parents’ house without him also being there.
“Maybe once every two or three years. It was usually for work when you weren’t there. You knew when I was there for the conventions.”
He looked down at her, “I can’t believe you didn’t tell me.”
“Well, I wasn’t there to see you,” she smiled. “I went to see your mom and dad…and have your mom’s cooking.” She got on her tiptoes for a quick kiss. “You’re hot as hell, but even my world doesn’t revolve around you.”
She moved to go back to the couch and her notebook. He put his arm around her to keep her close. “Hey,” he waited for her gaze to meet his, “you know I don’t think that, right?”
“I wondered sometimes,” she admitted.
“When?”
Her demeanor changed and she looked uncomfortable.
“You can tell me,” he tried to reassure her.
“That time you asked me to move to Austin, or LA, or Vancouver to be closer to you.” A harsh blush rose to her cheeks. “It felt like it was only to make you happy. You were with Dee and it made me feel like your side-piece, especially when I was sure you knew how I felt about you.”
It shocked him to hear her say it, but it was hard to deny her viewpoint. Neither one of them had been very good at concealing their feelings for each other, he was realizing. It had been selfish of him to ask, but he’d truly just wanted her closer… maybe he’d just been lying to himself a lot longer than he thought.
“I didn’t realize what I was doing. I shouldn’t have asked to put you in such an awkward position,” he held her tight to his chest. “Forgive me?”
“Of course,” she said. Her hand snaked up the back of his t-shirt, her nails scratching the skin of his back. “I was so close to saying, fuckit, but I would totally have tried to be a homewrecker.”
He remembered asking her and he remembered that they had gone to the fair that trip. “I should have done something after you kicked fuckface to the curb. I thought I was doing the right thing. I didn’t want to make things worse. I thought Danneel and I deserved a shot. I did love her, but not like how I love you. Even she knew. It’s probably why I didn’t get any of the letters you sent to Austin. She kept them from me because she knew how much I looked forward to them, even before we got engaged.”
“You were right though. I didn’t know who I was or what I needed after the Grant situation. I thought about making a move on you, too, but I didn’t know if I just wanted to feel better or if I truly wanted to start something with you.”
“Remember that night I fell asleep on your bed?” he paused when she looked up at him.
“Yeah?”
“Totally watched you change your clothes.”
“Oh my god,” she hid her face on his chest for a moment. “You dirty dog,” she chuckled.
“Worth it.”
“You liked what you saw?”
He nodded. “You were my dream girl before I even knew what that meant. I should never have let you get on that airplane,” he lamented.
He released her from his embrace and watched as she went back to the couch to wait for her brother to take his sweet time arriving. When she bent down to pick up her pen and notebook, he got a good look. She still has a great ass, he thought.
There were a lot of pictures on the mantle. Mostly, they were of their respective families and some convention photo ops. Far too many with Richard, he thought. At the opposite end of the mantle held the matching candlestick and more pictures that included her travels and himself. His eyes fell on the picture of them at the lake on the deck. They’d had such a good time that trip. Young enough to be carefree, old enough to be left to their own devices. They’d gone to the tiny amusement park and rode the rides over and over. Of course, Nova had liked the Ferris Wheel the best because it overlooked the lake. She loved the water, Ferris Wheels, and me, he thought with a smile.
Finally, a half hour late, your brother, Jarrod, rang the doorbell and you let him into your house. He greeted Jensen and Jensen poured drinks for everyone while Jarrod got settled.
“Mom told me you two finally got together,” he said in his usual loud voice.
“Yeah, Jarrod, it’s true,” you said.
“If you two ever need security, I’m available. You know I’ve got that training…” he said.
You tried not to roll your eyes where Jarrod would notice. Jensen stood behind him for a moment and did it for you before coming around to sit in one of the armchairs and sip on his whiskey.
“Clif has his own guys that Jensen uses, but I will tell Clif that you might be interested if there’s an opening. But the reason I wanted you to come over is because I need to tell you something…”
“You’re pregnant?”
“Jesus Christ, Jarrod. No, I’m definitely not pregnant. I need to tell you that I don’t work for the government and haven’t for years. I did work for the NRC, but I haven’t for years.”
He just looked at you like it was old news. “You’ve been at the grocery store for a while. I assumed you just had a good retirement plan.”
Sometimes it still amazed you that you and he had the same genetic material.
“The government doesn’t pay well enough for me to buy a whole goddamned city block in town, Jarrod.”
“Don’t get pissy with me. So if you didn’t work for the government, who did you work for? You obviously had some serious cash coming in.”
It was all you could do to not attempt to strangle him. “I write books. Lots of them. And I sold a lot. I am Nova Scott and Ross Black.” You waited for it to sink in. All he did was stare at you blankly. Your brother was not known for quiet reflection and was beginning to scare you. A whole new list of worries sprinted through your brain. “I need you to be cool about this, Jarrod, and to keep it quiet.”
“Does Mom know?”
“Yeah, from the start. Like three people in the profession know, Mom, Jay, and my one employee, Jen. Now you.”
“He knew before me?” you could hear the anger rising in his voice.
Jensen said nothing but carefully set down his glass.
“Barely. I only just told him about Ross Black. He knew about Nova Scott a few years ago.”
“What about your dumbshit exes?”
“No, Jarrod. Dan knew I wrote, but he didn’t know what or under what name,” you explained.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me sooner,” his voice boomed despite your plush furniture.
“I had my reasons,” you said simply.
He was obviously angry and hurt. He stood on the opposite end of the mantle from you. The sheer size of him was daunting and he scared the hell out of you when he was mad. Even if you got the upper hand, you knew you couldn’t take him. He was 8 inches taller and 150 pounds heavier, severely skewing your odds of being successful.
“Boy, nobody fucks you like family,” his volume only increasing.
“How the fuck is protecting my privacy about you?! I didn’t tell you for very good reasons.”
“You always thought you were too good for this family. Always smarter than me. The favorite child.”
“For fucks sake, Jarrod. This childish resentment needs to stop. I’m not smarter than you. I just tried harder. You’re mad at me about shit you could have fixed but didn’t and that’s on you.”
You didn’t realize you had so much built up rage.
“How long have you kept this from me?”
“Oh my god,” you were getting a headache. “I don’t have an obligation to tell you jack shit. I’m only telling you now out of courtesy because the press is going to find out about me and Jay and they will dig into who I am.”
“If you’ve been incognito this whole time, why now? You’ve known him forever. Has no one ever approached you?”
You shook your head. “What about you?” Jarrod shook his head. You sighed deeply as you told him about the plan. “If I tell you, I need to know I can trust you not to tell anyone, and I mean anyone. Not even Jenna.”
“What? Why not?”
“I’m not risking this leaking before its time. If you can’t promise me, I can’t tell you and you can leave now. Once it’s public then you can talk.”
Finally, he agreed and you told him everything. Jarrod went from fuming to understanding and back and forth as you told him your plan.
“So let me get this straight. You find out Bob is doing sketchy shit and your ‘source’ agrees to get you evidence of said shit. You find out other methods of embezzlement, not giving Dad a raise for 20 years, dad dies, you flip out at the funeral… I’m guessing that was the tipping point?” You nodded. “Debbie tries to start shit and you said what you said to her… so, are you going to do it soon, or are you just going to hold it over her, or them, or?”
“As long as they mind their own business, we’re cool. If they want to come at me, talk shit, or say any disparaging words about me and/or Jay, I will burn those motherfuckers to the ground.”
“Holy shit,” Jarrod muttered. “Still sounds like you’re the smart one.”
“No, I just hold a grudge and am willing to play the long game,” you told him.
Jarrod turned to Jensen who had been quietly listening to the exchange. “What about you? Are you good with this?”
“I know better than to get in her way. I trust her and the plan and will back her up to the end …not to mention happy to stay in her good graces,” Jensen answered, picking up his whiskey again.
“Guess I better do the same.”
The rest of the week continued to fly by. You were writing like crazy and Jensen was working with his lawyers, and team, to start getting him back into auditions for his various interests. He was collaborating with Steve, sending in voice work for his various cartoons and other voiceover work, calling all sorts of people to get his interests turned into reality. Meanwhile, you were writing, researching, asking Jensen questions and fielding calls from people like your agent, Jan.
“Hello Jan,” you answered. “What’s up? I wasn’t expecting you to call again this week.” You’d sent her what you had of the completed script on Wednesday morning and she had called Thursday morning.
“Sweetie, I don’t know what you put in that script but the studio called back already and they want to have a meeting.”
“A meeting? About what? Is that good?” you asked, worried.
“In all my years, this has only happened a handful of times. You need to get over there so they can ooh and aah over what can only be a masterpiece.”
“Or they want to tell me to my face how it’s total shit and need to redo the whole thing,” you lamented.
“Sweetie, the studio doesn’t fly you out to talk about garbage. When can you be ready?”
“Um…I don’t know…I need to talk to Jensen, but I’m thinking we can go out tonight or tomorrow morning.”
“Is this a package deal?” Jan asked. “If he’s included, I need to know now. I can try to get them to pay for the ticket, but I can’t guarantee it.”
“Book it regardless. He’s coming with me,” you told her. “We can cancel if need be.”
“Please tell me you’re going to get away from that tiny town you live in. You need to either be in LA or New York. You’re killing me with all of these connecting flights.”
You chuckled at her exasperated tone. “It may happen sooner than later. Hang tough, Jan. I want to try out the London West Hollywood this time.”
“Why not the Beverly Wilshire? You love that place and you can walk to the studio, you love that healthy shit.”
“Jan, that’s the Pretty Woman hotel and I’ll be going there with my new boyfriend.”
“So what, put it in one of those books you write. You are a pretty woman and that new guy of yours is a hot piece. You have your Pretty Woman experience, sweetie, you deserve it. And for what it’s worth, I like him and I don’t believe a word of the allegations. Nail that bitch to the wall. I did check around and couldn’t find anyone who had a bad word to say about him.”
“It means a lot, Jan,” you admitted. “I didn’t know you didn’t like the other guys.”
“Sweetie, you’re like family at this point. I tried to like ‘em, but it wasn’t my place to tell you who to love. I’ll get it set up and email you the details.”
“Thanks, Jan,” you signed off.
You got up from your computer to go find Jensen. The last you’d seen him, he’d gone through the bookcase. Inside the room, you’d expected to see him inside the soundproof room, but it was dark inside. You were reasonably sure you hadn’t missed a smoking hot man leave through your office, so you went for the spiral staircase to descend into the basement studio.
Jensen was at the soundboard with headphones on. His eyes were closed and you would have thought he was sleeping if not for his fingers tapping the beat on his chest. Your fingertips touched his shoulder first. He merely tensed his body before relaxing under your touch as your hand moved across and down his body. He held your arm against him then pulled you onto his lap. He reached for the keyboard and touched a button before turning his attention to you and took off his headphones.
“This is a nice surprise,” he held you gently as you settled. “I thought you were working.”
“I could say the same about you,” you returned.
“I took a little break to listen to some tracks and a few caught my ear. What’s going on?” he asked.
“Jan called. There’s interest in the script and one of the studios wants to meet on Friday. She’s going to book us a flight either for tonight or early tomorrow morning.”
“That was quick. Told you they’d love it. You sure you want me to go with you? I’m looking like damaged goods lately,” he said.
You touched his face and noticed the chop job you’d done on his hair. “Diamond in the rough, maybe.” You leaned in to kiss his full lips. “Of course, I want you to come with me. No more than a couple days, remember? Plus, the hotel is across the street and there’s hella good shopping all within walking distance.” You were softly touching his face all over. “Do I have to twist your arm?”
“No, just making sure.”
“My sweet boy, I will always want you. I’ve always had your back, I’m not stopping now, so will you go with me? Did you have your heart set on driving to Texas? I promise your truck will be safe here.” You paused briefly, “We still can, I just didn’t want to rush.”
“We’ll figure it out,” he agreed. “I’m so proud of you.”
His warm hand went under your shirt and up your back, expertly unclasping your bra. You pulled the garment from your body through the arm hole of your shirt.
“You’ve done that more than once,” you noted, kissing him again and feeling his lips smile against yours.
“It hasn’t been worth it til now,” his hand covered your breast, kneading your soft flesh then moving to your nipple. “Have any other hidden rooms down here…with a bed?”
His voice had gotten deeper and quieter.
“I have a sofa in my office,” you offered.
“That’ll do.”
You sat at your desk, both working and waiting for Jan to get back to you with travel plans. You were still adding things to the script and tweaking scenes here and there when the email finally dropped in. Jensen was reading a book on the sofa. You couldn’t really see the cover from where you sat, but you thought it looked vaguely familiar.
“Time to get packed,” you told him.
He closed his book and said, “I think we can go to Texas from California. My truck will be fine here. What hotel’re we staying at, anyway?”
“The Beverly Wilshire,” you mumbled.
“The Beverly Wilshire?” he asked. Reveling in her suddenly shy demeanor.
“I’m gonna tell Jan to change to the London,” you blustered.
He sat up on the couch, “The one from Pretty Woman?”
“You know it is, jerk.”
“Nice hotel.”
“Yes it is.”
“Have you stayed there before?”
“Yes, I’ve been there before,” you told him, “For the romance movie deals.”
He got up and put the book back on the shelf and you saw he was near the section that held your Nova Scott and Ross Black books, but your mind was on other tasks and couldn’t see which one he put back. You didn’t want to assume he was reading anything other than Whiskey Hollow and let it go for the time being.
“Are we going to the mighty SooFoo tonight, or in the morning?”
“Tonight,” you answered. “Jan somehow managed to get us in with only a short layover in Denver.”
You left your office to go up to your room to pack what you would need for a few days and clothes for the meeting.
Jensen stayed behind, waiting to make sure she had gotten all the way upstairs before he went back to the bookshelf and pulled off the book he’d been reading. It was the first time he’d seen it in a long time, not since he was on set with all of the cast members reading the first #1 seller for Nova Scott. He tucked it into the back of his pants and pulled his shirt over to hide it. He thought he would bust it out on the airplane and take the consequences there rather than asking her to finally let him start reading them.

Fuck It Friday
I was tagged by @evcndiaz a whole week ago, sorry for the delay dear. Your story makes me absolutely feral by the way and I'm going to kidnap you and hold you hostage until you finish writing it.
Oh hey speaking of Buddie and illegal car things...
Eddie finally hits the brakes and they sit there, breathing hard. His heart is still fucking racing, faster than the car, almost like it’s going to come flying out of his mouth and down the street. Buck’s twisted around, staring behind them, an almost-manic grin on his face. “Holy shit, holy shit.” He thumps the underside of the car roof and whoops. This is the moment, he thinks. You’ve got him now. You’ve got his trust. Use it. It’s odd, how for a second, he completely forgot this wasn’t real. “You’re a badass under pressure, brother,” Eddie tells him. “You can have my back any day.” Buck turns those bright blue eyes to him and it’s like being hit by a spotlight. For the first time, all that bravado melts away, and Buck ducks his head down a little, suddenly soft and happy. Eddie’s stomach does something hot and twisting. “Or, y’know.” Buck shrugs, like he’s trying to be nonchalant. “You can have mine.” Eddie grins and throws the car into gear again. “I’d better get you back before your old man yells at me for bringing you home past curfew.” Buck laughs, head tipped back, the long column of his throat wildly distracting.
Eddie "maybe if I call him brother this'll feel less gay" Diaz, everyone.

OC Interview Questions: Valerie Rose Barrère
Tagged by @ghostoffuturespast thank you! Love these little games and writing practices. Also needed to think how my V would actually answer these questions...
Tumblr media
[Mama Welles' on a Saturday night.]
V (reading a book on the couch with her feet up): "What are you two giggling about over there? It's suspicious and I don't like it." Misty (cuddling with Jackie on the opposite end of the couch): "Oh, we decided to make you a dating profile." V (initial confusion followed by a bit of rage): "A dat… The fuck?" Jackie (with the laptop): "You need some action, hermana." V: "No. Absolutely not. Delete that shit right now." [Jackie gives V his best puppy dog eyes.] V (waiting a moment): "Uggh. Fine… I'm gonna regret this." Jackie: "Heh, wasn't actually sure that was gonna work." (straightening himself out to look more serious) "Nickname?" [V gives Jackie a bombastic side eye.] Jackie: "Oh right!" (Types the letter as he says it) "V." Misty: "Height?" V: "5ft 3in." Jackie: "Gender?" V: "Seriously, Jack?" Jackie: "What? I don't want to assume." V (sighing, realizing he has a valid point): "Sure. Female." Misty: "Orientation?" V: "Straight I guess?" Jackie: "Nationality and… or… ethnicity?" V: "Uhh, my mother was Scottish/French and I think she said something about my father being Finnish. Anyways, born and raised in Heywood." Jackie (speaking the words slowly as he typed his version): "White. Very white. Heywood born and bred." Misty: "Star sign? I know this one already. Sagittarius." [Updating to Libra - forgot it's actually been official, and I stick with a lot of canon] Jackie: "Favorite fruit?" V: "Honeydew melon." Misty: "Favorite season? Autumn, right?" V: "You got it." Jackie (using his most delicate voice): "Favorite flower?" V (sharply): "Snapdragons." Misty: "Your favorite scent?" V: "Oh man… I have so many… cedarwood, jasmine, sandalwood, bergamot, books…" [Misty nods in agreement, thinking of her favorite incense in the shop.] Jackie: "Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?" V: "Tea usually. I'm… selective when it comes to coffee." Jackie (types and mutters): "Psh. I'll say. Can never bring you coffee anymore." Misty: "Average hours of sleep?" V: "9 to 10. I get cranky with less." Jackie: "You sure do." V (annoyed, raised voice): "Do you want me to finish these questions or not Jackie?" Jackie (puts his hands up in surrender): "Alright alright… I take it you didn't get your beauty sleep… princess." [V punches Jackie pretty hard in the arm.] Jackie (rolling over holding his bruised arm, laughing): "Oww…ahah… oww. Heh." V: "Misty, if you'd please take the rest of the questions… unless you want to drag an oversized bodybag out the door." [Jackie flashes V a stupid grin.] Misty: "Dog or cat person?" V: "Hmm… It feels like cheating to say both. Maybe I lean towards dogs. It's been awhile since I've seen one though." Misty: "Dream trip?" V: "Europe maybe? I don't know if there's anything left of my parents over there but I guess I'm curious." Misty: "I'd love to go back to Poland one day. Favorite fictional character?" V: "Probably… Edmond Dantes from The Count of Monte Cristo. It was one of my mom's favorites." Misty: "Number of blankets you sleep with?" V: "Zero or one… It's just too damn hot." Misty: "Aaand last one." V: "Oh thank god." Misty: "A fun fact?" V: "Uhhh. I guess… I enjoy retro video games?" Misty: "OK. Published." V: "Now will you two leave me be?" [bing.] Jackie (throwing himself at the computer): "Ooh! Look! Matches already, chica!" V (snatching the computer out of Jackie's hands): "Wait what? Lemme see." [V scrolls a bit, the reflection of the screen lighting up her face in the dark room.] V: "No. Noo. Definitely not. No." Jackie (takes the computer back): "Lemme take a look… I'll find you someone... Here! This guy looks promising, huh?" (excitedly turns the screen to face V.) V: "Oh. Damn. Lemme take a closer look… Nah. What a damn shame. He's NCPD."
