Kim Kitsuragi - The bullet falls in the bag leaving a smattering of blood on the plastic. He raises the bag under his eyes and says:
Kim Kitsuragi - "Unknown calibre. Rifled. Some kind of brittle alloy, fractured on impact..."
You - "Can I have it?"
Kim Kitsuragi - "Of course. You've *earned* it." The lieutenant drops the bag in your bloody hand. It feels light.
Perception (Sight) - Your gardening glove is completely covered in the corpse's blood.
Inland Empire - Cold and absent of life.
Half Light - Lick your fingers.
Volition - What-
Electrochemistry - YES-
You - Um...?
Endurance - Uh, no. You barely got your shit together when approaching the hanging corpse. Your body will not be able to handle its dead blood inside it.
Electrochemistry - The dark liquid glistens on the yellow latex in the cold sunlight. Your fingers are *dripping* with it.
Authority - You outlived this sad, sad man. It's only right that you should feast upon his corpse.
Logic - No, you shouldn't. The corpse has been hanging outside - mouth open - for a week. In any case, it won't taste good.
Conceptualisation - That's because it's raw, unseasoned blood. This is just a little taste.
Perception (Smell) - You waft the odor towards your face. If you close your eyes, you can imagine it's a kebab.
Volition - We all know that the kebabs you ate were no better than a week-old corpse. Take the gloves off and clean them when you get back to your room.
Reaction Speed - You will never get this chance again, especially with how the lieutenant regarded you when you tried to remove the hanged man's boots.
You - Lick your fingers.
Perception (Taste) - You swipe the flat of your tongue along the back of your hand. Why did you do that? You could have just dabbed at it. It's disgustingly sour and tastes awful. You gag when your saliva washes the fluid down your throat.
Authority - You have bested this man. You have consumed him.
Electrochemistry - It's fucking vile. It's enlightening.
Logic - Great. Now that you've established that brain fluid and blood tastes bad, let's get back to the autopsy.
Kim Kitsuragi - He had turned to his notebook when you took the bagged bullet. He's still looking down at it.
Kim Kitsuragi - He was beginning to write the bullet wound's description. The pen has not touched the paper.
Composure - He *saw* you lick your bloody glove.
Empathy - It's not a surprise. He is still appalled.
Half Light - You conquered your prey. You are the predator.
Inland Empire - A four-legged beast with sharp claws and numerous teeth. Muscles powerful and flexing.
Shivers - In a grimy butcher shop in Faubourg, a rugged man pulls a thawed lamb down onto the somewhat clean counter. He grips the front legs and tendons crack. In the front of the shop, raw meats line the shelves. Red steaks with beautiful marbling, sausage casings stuffed full of spiced pork, pink breasts of chicken shining in the artificial light.
Electrochemistry - You recall the sweet ham of Gaston's sandwich.
Physical Instrument - Your muscles are also powerful and flex-worthy. Your meat would be highly coveted.
Volition - Right. Who would want to buy meat sourced from an addicted alcoholic? Take off the damn gloves.
You - "I wonder what I taste like."
Kim Kitsuragi - You pull him out of his silent stupor. After a second, he decides to ignore what you said. "We need to add an item to the injury list."

Bruce posting to the official Bruce Wayne Twitter account: I truly go into househusband mode when I'm someone's soulmate- like, I'll make you pancakes and bacon every morning.
Clark, responding: This is a lie.
Clark: I'm literally dating him. This is a lie.
Clark: HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO COOK A PANCAKE, WHAT IS THIS.

“Are you… cooking?”
Dib tiredly walked into his kitchen to find Zim in front of the stove wearing an apron. In order to reach the counter comfortably, the invader had to use a step-stool. Zim expertly flipped a perfectly round pancake in the air, and it landed with a dull plat.
“GIR likes pancakes.” Zim said simply.
He smooshed the pancake down in a motion that seemed completely natural to him.
Imagery of the alien cooking had never once come to Dib’s mind, and within reason- the concept was utterly ridiculous. Yet here Zim was, making pancakes for his evil little robot in some strange domestic display.
“… GIR’s broken.” Dib reminded him.
Zim froze momentarily and his magenta eyes blinked slowly as he processed this, as if he had completely forgotten.
“Oh, right.”
He scraped a pancake off the pan silently, setting it aside on a separate plate where a stack of pancakes had started to appear. Each one cooked to perfection.
Dib lingered awkwardly, unsure of what to say now, and Zim was in the way of the cereal cabinet which had been Dib’s intended trajectory.
Zim made a dismissive gesture with the spatula.
“You eat them then.”
Dib blinks.
Zim adds another pancake to the stack silently.
“.. what’s in them?” Dib questioned in an apprehensive tone. While the pancakes seemed fine, Dib’s deep seated paranoia and general distrust, while completely understandable given the circumstances, left him hesitant to try anything the irken invader offered.
Zim picked up the box of pancake mix on his left, squinting as he read slowly
“En…riched flour… bleached. Wheat flour… niacin, iron… thh-hiami-“
“Nothing else? Mind-controlling alien spores, perhaps?” Dib interrupted, lifting a pancake to examine it. It looked… normal enough.
Zim resumed his task, pouring more batter on the hot pan. It sizzled.
“Hmm… Water.” He replied after some consideration. The alien seemed distracted, completely lost in thought.
Hesitantly, Dib grabbed a plate from the cabinet. Keeping Zim in his peripheral, he plucked two pancakes off the top of the stack. After retrieving a fork, he made his way to the kitchen table- offering Zim a brief
“Thanks” as he passed.
Zim’s antennae perked up at this. He paused for a second, turning to peek at Dib over his shoulder, before returning his attention to the pan.
No other words were exchanged, and the silence was filled only with sizzling and scraping.
After pouring a generous amount of syrup, Dib set the bottle aside. Just as he did so, Gaz stumbled into the room tiredly- grumbling.
She opened one eye in surprise at the scene before her.
“Why is Zim wearing an apron?”
“He’s making pancakes.” Dib replied incredulously, poking his breakfast experimentally with a fork. Gaz stared at his plate suspiciously for a moment.
“Are they any good?”
Dib brings a piece to his mouth, chewing thoughtfully.
“They’re pancakes.”

Learning to Cook Like a Witch: The Absolute Beginning
So, you're looking to dip your toes into kitchen witchery, but you have zero experience cooking. Or, maybe you have experience that's not so great or that wasn't informative. Or, maybe you just don't know where to start, because no one ever taught you how to cook.
Great! Cooking can be intimidating to even approach when you're not used to it. I'm lucky in that I grew up cooking with my family and had the chance to take several cooking-based classes in high school. Not everyone has that sort of opportunity, so I'd like to pass on my experience to others!
(Note that you definitely don't need to be the best cook in the world to be a kitchen witch. No one's perfect! But it's okay to want to improve your skills, too.)
If you want to learn to cook, the first step is to familiarize yourself with the basic terms, measurements, and tools you'll be working with. Start with the following:
Learn the names and uses of the tools in your kitchen (for example, spatulas for spreading frosting vs. spatulas for flipping burgers)
Measurement conversions (how many teaspoons in a tablespoon, how many tablespoons in a cup, etc.)
Familiarize yourself with commonly used measurement phrases such as "dash" and "pinch," and learn exactly what they mean by that
Abbreviations for measurements (teaspoon = tsp = t, tablespoon = tbsp = T, etc.)
Various cooking terminology and the difference between terms, such as the difference between mixing, creaming, folding, and emulsifying
Read recipes and look up words you're not familiar with
Knife safety! Learn how to hold a knife properly and cut things without risking your fingers, and also learn how to keep your knives sharp. Remember, a sharp knife is a safe knife!
Once you've got knife safety down, learn how to cut an onion - dice, chop, and slice your way to delicious victory!
Learn fire, oven, and stovetop safety!
Familiarize yourself with what's in your spice cabinet; taste things if you've never had them, and look up common recipe usages for them
Learn about the Maillard reaction (this is what turns meat brown!)
Familiarize yourself with common substitutions, such as for cornstarch, buttermilk, and shortening/lard
Start with simple recipes; many chefs say you should start with omelets, white sauce, and homemade stock, and I tend to agree. Learning just these three things teaches a number of techniques that translate to a hundred other recipes!
Eat more food! Try new flavors, experiment with dishes from restaurants, ask questions about what's in what you're eating. Sample dishes and spice combinations from other cultures. Smell things before you eat them. Think about the flavors and how they're working together.
Watch videos from cooks on YouTube, or watch cooking tv shows! Honestly, Alton Brown's Good Eats was a foundational influence for me as a child, and I cut my teeth on Food Network. YouTube-wise, try Basics with Babish!
Pick a recipe you think looks good or that you've had before and just make it! Simple as that, just follow the recipe. Get the ingredients, follow the steps, eat the food!
Not everything you make is going to be good. And that's fine! Learn what went wrong and why. Figure out what tastes good and what doesn't. Let other people try your food and give you honest feedback. If you think your taste buds are biased or not "good enough," having someone else tell you "this needs more salt" or "this is really balanced" or "this would go nicely over rice instead of potatoes" is powerful.
Remember that you're learning. Look things up. Fuck up a recipe. Burn something. Realize you're missing an ingredient and figure out a substitute last minute. Leave something out, put something else in. Taste, taste, taste. Taste everything. Every time you put something in or complete a step, taste it. So long as it's not going to be a health hazard (such as with raw meat), taste it.
Take your time with it. Cooking is a skill that's earned over time via trial and error. Know that you're not alone in your worry and struggle. Millions of home cooks have stood where you stand, spoon in hand and apron tied tight. Practice, practice, practice.
Once you understand cooking by itself, you can more easily incorporate magic and weave spells into your meals, which I'll cover in another post, since this one is already quite long.
Happy cooking! 🍳🌿
