Ok so this fucking drawing beat my ass fkfjckcn it took me a whole week (I usually manage to do a detailed colored illustration like this in 3 or 4 days), and I hated it for 6 of those days. I was kind of art blocked, and I decided to brute force this by hitting my head again the wall that was this fucking drawing until it worked- and it did ! After 2 failed attempts, and immense frustration at every step of the way <3

I find the older obimaul (around 50yo) dynamic much more compelling, because of the whole baggage desperation loneliness it has going for it, but after failing to draw it (this time, I will come back to it one day)- I decided to settle for the second best obimaul dynamic : young strangers hooking up ! No baggage yet, only fun :)

So they are drinking caned bear in a cheap hotel room (I imagine Coruscant having capsule hotels, being an overpopulated city planet ! Even tho I made it way bigger than a regular one-) to escape responsibilities and just enjoy a good time ! There is no chance to develop an unhinged hatred-obssession-love onesided dynamic here haha :)))

The yuri is not yet toxic, but we'll get there

I see all your “anakin was found by the sith as an infant” AUs and raise you:

Everything’s the same in Star Wars except the roles for the main cast in TPM are reversed (ie. Qui gon and obi wan are sith, while darth maul is a Jedi, though the Jedi order is still the same) but the events still play out largely the same (maul kills qui gon, obi wan takes anakin on as his apprentice, with palpatine keeping a close eye on his training, though the rule of two would be pretty much ignored by palpatine here, and padme is still saved, this time by maul). Basically the entire disaster lineage are sith in this, barring yoga and ahsoka. I want ahsoka to still be a Jedi in this, so maybe she’s mauls apprentice here.

I can see Obi wan still becoming a general, maybe he is masquerading as a regular military general, so he still gets to interact with the clones. When obi wan is sent to infiltrate the army, palps ends up taking anakin as his full apprentice. Also, I want ahsoka to be the one to

This can either make the prequels more tragic or less tragic, depending on how it plays out. The cast could have something like an almost redemption arc, only to have it ripped away at the last moment, falling back into darkness.

Or, by the end of the clone wars, with Padmes pregnancy and ahsoka convincing him, anakin turns back to the light, killing Palpatine. By this point, Obi wan would have already been secretly turned by either Cody or maul (yes I am a multishipper), so he’s also becoming a Jedi with anakin.

Yeah yeah jedi Maul au we've all seen him. But what about senator Maul au. Representing Dathomir, a neutral world like Mandalore that is still somewhat hostile to outsiders. Wearing fancy clothes that show a bit too much skin for the cold climate of Coruscant. Falling in hate at first sight with Padmé, the only other senator who brings a gun to the senate floor "just in case". The two of them having a weird rivalry because Maul doesn't trust the Jedi and is neutral in a lot of subjects that Padmé is a vocal defender of.

“Betrothed, actually,” Obi-Wan clarified, as if that changed anything. “The agreement between our families was finalized just the other day. We wanted to take some time to ourselves before the wedding preparations began in earnest.” Then he laughed, as if letting their guide in on a private joke.

No one was supposed to know they were two Jedi on a mission – what better way than to feign a happy, soon-to-be-married couple? It made sense. They were on some sort of luxury cruise, and two random bachelors with lightsabers just wouldn't cut it.

Maul hated every second of it. Obi-Wan’s smooth confidence was effortless, and the way his hand cupped casually around Maul’s own waist felt as natural as anything. It burned, in a way, and he wished his obnoxious friend would just…tone it down, a bit.

“Isn’t that right, dear?” Obi-Wan prompted, squeezing him gently. The burn intensified. They would really be acting like this for – days? Weeks? However long it took them to complete their mission? He would go insane if this kept up for another hour!

But if Obi-Wan thought he would win at being the most convincing, he was dead wrong.

“Of course, love,” Maul said, and then with a sly grin, he ran his hand under Obi-Wan’s chin – and definitely did not feel a shiver of satisfaction at the sudden look of surprise in his friend’s eyes. “Though we might retire to our room for a bit before the festivities. Your beard could use a little trim.”

“Is that all?” Obi-Wan said, his voice a little shaky. “I thought you liked it.”

“Oh, I do,” Maul smiled, showing his teeth. “But it hides all my love bites.”

Their guide scampered off as soon as they’d been shown to their room.

Obi-Wan was quick to turn off the charm once they were out of view. “Are you serious?” he snapped. “Love bites?”

“I was just going along with you,” Maul said, heat warming his face. “What’s the problem?”

“If you go around talking about giving me love bites,” the words sounded strained, “what happens if we go outside and I don’t have any?”

“Who’s going to be paying attention to that kind of thing?” Maul asked, the heat beginning to spread.

Obi-Wan glared at him – but there was something else to it, Maul sensed. Something that Obi-Wan didn't want him to see.

Something that Maul himself didn’t want Obi-Wan seeing, either.

“Who’s to say someone won't be paying attention?” he snapped back. “We’ve got to look the part.”

“So…” Maul swallowed heavily against the warmth that threatened to choke him. “You think I should…”

Obi-Wan got out his shaving kit and made a strange, unreadable face. “Before I shave, or after?”

Maul’s mouth went dry.

“Both?” he suggested, hopefully not sounding hopeful.

Obi-Wan paused for a second, then nodded. “Both,” he said. “Both is good.”

I gave him different tatoos, since a while ago I saw a post about a head canon they have that Maul’s original tatoos were stripped and replaced by Palpatine. I tried to follow similar markings, with the idea that his natural markings that had been accentuated by his tattoos were guidelines that Palpatine was forced to follow. I also gave him longer horns, since all the other adult male dathomirians we see have longer horns, and Maul likely doesn’t due to malnutrition, which he wouldn’t have experienced nearly as badly in this au. For the same reason I imagine he’d also be taller, probably around 5”8@-6”0

~King of the Dragonfish: Chapter 16 ~

When he returns from hunting treasure to find the cave empty of jedi, his scream of rage is enough to make the walls shudder and rain with scree. Maul reaches out in the force, throwing a wide net of energy out with the intent to hunt Kenobi and drag him back here. Retribution would be paid in blood for this-

He finds the jedi's energy signature just a little ways away, stationary. Lambent. The sith is brought up short, confused. Taken aback even.

Was this an escape attempt… or not?

Lashing down on his rage, setting aside judgment for a moment, Maul leaves his pot and box on the shore, and returns to the water to seek the jedi through the force. He swims fast and true for less than a minute, left and right and around…

The dragonfish sith breeches the pocket of his own bedroom cave, and rises up in a quiet rush of shedding water. Kenobi is here? Here? He went wandering, but not to his lightsaber or the surface, but here?

Maul sways his way through the caves and comes up on his own bed. There the jedi lies, buried under makeshift blankets, curled in on himself, shivering.

The sith looks around in disbelief. There on the shelf of his nightstand is his saberstaff, he leans close sniffing… not a trace of skin scent on it. Kenobi had not come looking for a weapon to kill him with then.

The last embers of his rage dowse themselves as he returns his attention to the cold little ball of stewjon.

“Jjjedi,” he whispers thoughtfully, running his claws through salt-crisp hair. “Always leaving behind the heat you need, awake or asleep. What a pathetic thing you are.”

Maul withdraws, considering the situation. Either Kenobi needed to be brought to heat, or heat needed to be brought to Kenobi. He ponders it briefly, but easily decides that he likes the jedi to be in his bed.

He goes, gathers the magma ball from the second prison cave, and returns. It is cooled somewhat, so he slices it in half with his saber like an orange, revealing the cherry red center. The freshly unmasked lava blooms with heat, rapidly forming a new black crushed shell on its surface.

Maul situates one of the halves just so, pointing it's radiant heat toward the bed. Then, he climbs in, finding his way under covers to drag his Kenobi to him. He discovers bare skin, offering him easy access to touch new places. The variety of textures is fascinating.

Predictably, when faced with heat and weight and a living body, the jedi seeks him out like a plant turning to the sun. Limbs unclench and the ball of him eases open. Arms come winding around his back, and a scruffy face presses to his shoulder.

Kenobi sighs with contentment at his presence, and Maul feels… he feels…

The words for this. These too are missing from his memory of before. Or perhaps he never had them.

Darth Maul draws his prisoner close, and waits for him to wake. The other man’s force signature brightens at one point, perhaps touching consciousness, but he drifts back down again without a word.

It is hours before the jedi truly stirs, groaning at the back of his throat as he peers blearily around.

“Kenobi,” Maul says, catching the man's chin in his fingers and drawing that watery gaze toward him.

The jedi blinks a few times, focus slow to resolve. “Where am I?” he asks.

He hums, fingers playing through that ginger beard. Soft. So soft. “Where you are meant to be.”

With a muddled huff, Kenobi turns to look around, not satisfied with his answer. “I remember getting bored and going exploring, and then I found a cave with… things. Art and trinkets… was I dreaming?”

“Mmno,” the sith denies, “you have found my cave, and put yourself in my bed. This is... good.”

The jedi scrubs a hand over his face, and back through his hair. Maul runs a hand down his bare side, then back up again.

“Sorry. I'm… not really parsing anything,” Kenobi replies.

Maul scoffs, “Because you left the heat, again. You are too weak to survive the cold. I have scolded you before but you did not listen. Hear me now: I forbid you from leaving warm places again unless I am there to watch you.”

Kenobi sloughs back down, loose limbed in his hold. “...”

“Jedi,” he says warningly at the silence, leaning in toward the other man's face. “Obey me.”

That tired, watery blue gaze lifts to his. “Mmnnn?”

So unfocused. So soft and pliant. Irresistible.

Maul’s eyes are drawn to chapped pink lips where the lower one is loose and slightly parted from the top. He doesn't question the stray desire to taste the cracked texture of it. The sith presses close, licking those lips, slipping his tongue inside a slack mouth.

“Ah,” Kenobi says softly, letting him take what he wants. His smooth tongue slides against Maul's, reactive to the languid stroking of his.

The dragonfish sith runs his claws gently down the back of his prisoner, careful not to cut unintentionally, until back becomes backside. He cups the handful of curve, squeezes and pulls, drawing their hips closer together.

The jedi turns his head away, hiding in Maul's neck. “Please, I don't…”

“Hnn?” he asks, enthralled with the way Kenobi’s soft belly and scattering of body hair felt against his own smooth stomach.

“Just hold me and let me sleep. I just want to rest,” the man pleads softly.

He tsks, “If you would stay where I put you, your strength would not wane.”

Kenobi sighs gustily, relaxing when Maul's hand returns to petting the pale flesh of him higher up. Straying places that are personal, but not quite so personal. The jedi comes back out of hiding when the trend continues. His eyes look like they struggle to stay open.

“I have gifts for you,” Maul tells him, “To earn your favor.”

“It isn't something that can or should be earned with material things,” Kenobi mumbles.

“Jedi drivel,” he counters. “Nice and necessary things are a fair measure of who to show favor to.”

Unable to help himself, the sith's claw skim just a little lower, teasing the sensitive line of skin between the other man's low back and ass. Kenobi groans, and his hips rock.

“Nng,” the pale man says simply, brows drawing faintly upward in pleasure.

Maul kisses him again, far more gently than he deserves, then settles down. “Sleep, Kenobi. Regain your strength. When you wake I will show you your gifts.”

For once, the witless jedi does as he's told.

Top 5 ObiMaul headcanons 👀

Oooh that's a fun ship! Here are my top five headcanons that I've come up with over the last few years for these two! :D

One of my headcanons for these two is they have some kind of connection to each other ever since Obi-Wan cut Maul in half in the Phantom Menace. I mean that in the sense that they kept being drawn to each other at various points in their lives including the end there where Maul seeks Obi-Wan out on Tatooine to have the man end his life. Bc it could be no one but Obi-Wan to do this for him since it was also Obi-Wan that set his life away from Darth Sidious in motion back in the Phantom Menace, so it might as well be the same man who ends his life once and for all.

2. Another headcanon that is kind of confirmed in TCW canon is that once Maul made his reappearance to the galaxy when Savage found him, Obi-Wan went searching for records about Maul. Just to understand why the Zabrak is the way he is bc I doubt that Obi-Wan had been able to take time right after Qui Gon had been killed and then taking on Anakin as a Padawan. I do think that he took every available route to find records that could point to Maul as a person and that it would lead him to Dathomir - which I would have loved an episode on that bc I'm a sucker for seeing how Jedi conduct research and all that. It is confirmed by a TCW episode, Lawless that he visited one of the villages and got Maul's story of being handed over to the Sith as a baby.

3. Another headcanon which is based purely on my Maul is Leia's Master au since that's fun to think about, but I do believe in that scenario where they're trapped with each other for long stretches of time they would talk/debate philosophy of the Light and Dark sides of the Force - at least their sects for it. It's inevitable when Leia and Luke spend time with each other and they're not changing their minds on why they believe in the Light or the Dark side, but a closeness that comes with it. An understanding that it's sharing pieces of themselves with each other since there is no one else to understand it with the lives that they had lived through before taking on the Skywalker twins as their students. Maybe a romance blooms between them in their old age, the kind that remains unspoken even if it helps with dealing with the realities of the Empire as two Force-Sensitive individuals.

4. This one's a fun, little personal headcanon for myself, but I could definitely see Maul and Obi-Wan being in an ace/ace relationship with each other. I would like to explore that more in a fic since there are ideas that I can't fully explain in an ask like this.

5. Last headcanon, but I feel that Obi-Wan carries the memory of Darth Maul once he buries the man's body somewhere on Tatooine. Not in the same way he does for Anakin or Ashoka, but as a way to push him forward to make sure Luke lives to be trained in the Force bc someone needs to take down Sidious for all that he has done. But especially to Maul bc Maul never stood a chance when he was given to the man to be trained as a Sith apprentice as a baby. It's a personal injustice, but it shouldn't have had to happen to someone who would have likely thrived if he wasn't subjected to the training and abuse that Sidious did to Maul for most significant parts of the Zabrak's life.

I think I'm actually going to answer both of these together? So I'm definitely not scrapping it entirely, but I do think I'm going to table the ObiMaul Sith AU for now, as there hasn't seemed to be a lot of interest in it and there's a new Codywan AU that I had an idea for that I've been talking to @meebles and @goddammitjim about (😘😘😘) that I'm getting pretty excited about. Picture this:

Sapphic T4T Werewolf AU within the GFFA. Obi-Wan was never a Jedi and the War never happened because the Vode overthrew Kamino before they were even discovered by the Republic. Cody moves out to a sheep and chicken farm on the foggy rainy moors of Stewjon for some Peace and Fucking Quiet, and after several frustrating weeks of trying to fix it up and constantly repairing the leaking roof, she finds a clearly injured wolf in her henhouse.

This is from my own Sith!Obi-wan AU! Where Maul is a Jedi, and Obi-wan was Dooku's padawan. Obi-wan follows Dooku out of the Order, they fake his death, and he becomes Darth Vain, a mysterious, masked figure that spreads fear and chaos for the "greater good." AU rambles below!

Oh my GODDDD this took so long! I really thought I was going to do rendering shortcuts for this piece, but I wanted it to be Dramatic and Extra.

A little context! Because this AU lives rent free in my head:

Maul and Obi-wan were best friends (and gay for each other) when growing up in the Temple together. When Obi-wan "died", Maul found it hard to move on, and so threw himself into training Anakin and finding Vain. He has a conspiracy theory board, complete with string, in their shared dorm and everything.

Maul has been looking for Vain for ages at this point. He's training Anakin, but more than that, became obsessed with the man who killed his master (Qui-gon). The timeline is a little switched, in that Dooku left the Jedi Order before Qui-Gon died, but the rest is pretty role-swapped.

Of course he never recognized Obi-wan's force presence during their many encounters, but seeing his face finally makes him realize that his friend is alive. And worse than he ever was.
