What I think about Bingge

So, funny story: I did not start out liking Bingge. I doubt most people do. The first thoughts I had about him were "Damn, boy's fucked up" and "Who starts ripping off limbs without even asking questions first?" He seemed more like the final boss of a horror game than a fleshed-out character.

Then I finished the book and went "Ehh do I wanna read the extras?" Tbh, I skimmed a lot of them but the Bingge vs Bingmei one was one of the few I fully read, just because the premise sounded interesting.

And it was interesting alright, to see Bingge do something else than torturing people and ripping off arms. But none of it really made my brain light up until that little scene where Bingge watches Shen Qingqiu fuss over Bingmei. Then he asks him to come with him, to choose him, and Shen Qingqiu says no. Bingge returns to his own world, sad and alone.

"Well, sucks to be you," I thought, and "lol, I sure hope that doesn't awaken anything in me."

Two weeks later, I found myself lying in bed, thinking about Bingge with a single tear rolling down my cheek.

I really shouldn't be sad for him, I told myself. He has a big harem full of hot women to tell him how great he is all day. If he's not happy, then it's really his own fault.

But what if he's more the monogamous type, my heart wailed back. Or what if he's too fucked up to let anyone love him??

Ugh, alright, I gave in. Let's think about him then.

So, Bingge is a power fantasy made for incels. But even Bingge was Bunhe once. He shares a past with Bingmei and they are, at their core, the same person. And if you can say one thing about Bunhe, it's that he really has an undying hopeful streak. Sure, when Shen Yuan transmigrated, it took him a while to gain Bunhe's trust. But even after all the beatings and insults and humiliation, he did gain it.

Bunhe gave him his trust because he desperately wants Shen Qingqiu to love him. And, if not love him, at least like him. And if not that, then at least not hate him. When Shen Qingqiu actually showed notions of doing just that, loving him, he was all over that like a dog getting a treat and a head pat for the first time in his life.

But Bingge never got that. He hoped and hoped and kept hoping for Shen Qingqiu to show even a hint of affection and all he got in return was the firm assurance that, no, Shen Qingqiu would never feel anything but hate for him.

That has to give a guy issues. Probably makes him feel deeply unlovable. Hate himself, even. Binghe is a little dumb about things like these, he likely didn't give up hope until Shen Qingqiu physically pushed him into the abyss. He probably spent a lot of nights in the abyss crying into his dirty little sleeves.

But you gotta find ways to cope with heartbreak, right? So, eventually, lightly charred Bunhe stood up straight, turned his little determined protagonist eyes up to the sky and said: "I'm going to make him regret it! He will rue the day he cast me away!" And he went on to become stallion protagonist #1, demon emperor, conqueror, etc etc.

The thing is this: if you build your whole identity on the idea of making the guy who hates you regret his feelings, you're not really over him, you get what I'm saying? You're like, the opposite of over him. Not a good emotional state to connect to the hot women throwing themselves at you either.

So yeah, after that, Bingge did all kinds of things that aren't really that important, but eventually, he got Shen Qingqiu where he wanted him: in the water prison (also kneeling at his feet). And I'm sure I have an inkling of what went on in his dumb little head. It may have been something like:

"Aha!! Now I have the evil Shizun in prison, where evil men like him belong! Finally, people have told him how evil he is! I'm going to go and talk to him and make him see the error of his ways. And when the horror of what he did finally dawns on him, and he apologises, I might forgive him and give him another chance."

Shen Jiu being Shen Jiu, he probably laughed right in Binghe's face and also spit at him too, for good measure (as is, in this case, kinda relatable). So Binghe's righteous little plan didn't quite work out as he wanted it to. This procedure might have been repeated a few times but, well.

Binghe's emotions are already volatile on a good day. Add Xin Mo to that. Add childhood trauma and Shen Jiu to that. One time, he snaps and reaches out to rough Sqq up a little, just to make him regret his own behaviour. Underestimating his own strength, he rips off his arm instead.

Awkward situation, that.

What are you supposed to do after ripping off someone's arm? Maybe Binghe just went to bed and stared at the ceiling for a while, thinking about his life choices.

See, at this point, another person might have thought: "My life is going in the wrong direction. I need to change something, maybe go on a journey of self-discovery or something."

But Binghe has never been the best at things like morals and ethics, no matter what version of him we're talking about. Even Bingmei, who had a comparatively more stable home life, never really got the hang of that stuff (Turning some people into lifeless husks? Well, better than fucking someone, right? The man you love apparently just isn't as insane about you as you are about him? Time to destroy the world^^)

Anyway, you gotta go on, and I'm sure Binghe found some convincing enough arguments for why ripping arms off was an acceptable thing to do.

"But Zar," you may interrupt me. "How can anyone think that's an acceptable thing to do?"

See, in all honesty? I think, deep inside, Binghe knows it's not. But right next to that knowledge lies another knowledge: it's that he's unlovable. And if he's unlovable, it can only be because, at his core, he's already rotten. And if you're already evil? You might as well do evil things, doesn't make much of a difference anymore.

So things escalate, surely not helped by Xin Mo. Shen Qingqiu loses limbs with the same speed other people lose socks, and when even that doesn't heal him of his evil ways, Binghe comes up with the whole Yue Qingyuan plot. And when even that doesn't help, he loses his patience and kills everyone.

Then he sits there, on his throne, surrounded by hot women, fully charred, not so little anymore, and without a Shizun he can hope to one day convince of his worth.

There sits Shen Yuan, a world away, growing increasingly frustrated at how purposeless Bingge's life has become.

Then the extra happens, and Bingge gets transported to a world where another Binghe got everything he ever wanted: the love of his Shizun. And, all at once, the hope he thought he had killed and buried flares back to life, never having been dead after all, and burns Binghe up until he's nothing more than the bare bones of his desperation.

But the other Shizun doesn't love him. He only loves the other, inferior Binghe. He looks upon Bingge coldly before he sees his husband and his eyes turn warm. And it's like Bingge is looking at a funhouse mirror, at a world of dreams and wishes that never came true.

In the end, he's still as unlovable as he has ever been. And he goes back to his own world, and he feels flayed with the knowledge of everything he will never have.

And I just think it's impressive how Shen Qingqiu manages to break every version of Binghe without even trying.

WITCH HAT ATELIER CHAPTER 75 SPOILERS!!!

Okay so all that shit with Qiffrey’s eye? Holy shit???? Anyway here’s some thoughts and theories

I have a feeling the “cold gust of wind” Vinannia mentioned is connected to Qiffrey’s eye pain and Custas’s failing legs.

Vinanna only mentions the “cold wind” after Beldaruit pesters her for changing her stance about the healing magic idea. She says that because of the cold wind, she “had to do something”— that something seeming to be aiding in people’s recovery.

This is weird enough. What does the “cold wind” indicate and why would it make her rush to heal people against her own ideals? Perhaps some big danger that people need to be healthy in order to escape? Or maybe some spell that amplifies all injuries?

Then we see Custas and Qiffrey doubling over in pain that’s centralized in places of their injuries— Qiffrey’s eye and Custas’s legs. It seems strangely related, especially given how closely the two concepts are introduced.

But that got me thinking, maybe it’s even more specific than whatever the “cold wind” entails somehow effecting peoples injuries. Maybe it’s more related to magical injuries, or magical dangers

Custas grabs towards his legs, but more exactly at his augmented branches. His legs have very obviously been changed using forbidden/brim hat magic. While it’s harder to say if Qiffrey himself has been augmented, he clutches at the spot where the brimhat’s removed his eye.

Both of their brimhat related injuries react at the same time, while none of the other injured characters in the background react.

Additionally, Qiffrey says this:

Qiffrey’s body— through giving him killer phantom pains where he’s been affected by brimhat’s— is forcing him to avoid Custas. That alone is bizarre.

Then, Qiffrey notices Custas’s eyes have grown paler. This could imply a number of things— especially with the following line of

“Oh no… could he have… if so I have to tell Coco! If I’m right, we could be too late. There might not be anything we can do to save him!”

I’m not confident the first “He” (underlined in the image) is referring to Custas.

If it is referring to Custas, he might have made some sort of trade or agreement in order to receive help from the brimhat’s and they’ve placed some sort of spell on him— the side effects of which being his paling eyes and now failing legs. Perhaps he was even tricked into it.

That would mean Qiffrey is mentally admonishing Custas for agreeing to such a deal or falling for it. Or just expressing worry for him.

This is assuming the pale eyes are new based on the fact that Coco and Tarta didn’t notice.

If the “he” doesn’t refer to Custas… well we know one other brimhat that deals with eyes. One that also has ties to Qiffrey’s injuries that just happen to react at the same time.

If coco and Tarta just didn’t notice somehow and Custas has had pale eyes since he got the legs, that would be. Bad. Because that opens the possibility of Custas eyes themselves being tampered with— maybe even replaced. Do I think that’s what happened? Ehh, not really. But worrying still. (Also I trust Dalga would have noticed that even if he forgot immediately lol)

They seem to have asked him to babysit her! babysitting your assistant is surely a fun thing to do. what a nice master we have there ~ being a dad is pretty hard And... Tsu.. you sure? don't you babysit Mit 2.0, even now? "Do what your mom used to do". I really like Red koku this chapter. Hmm... Tsu doesn't seem to remember much from a long time ago. Though, I'm afraid I will be coming back to this... after Tsu's backstory to start crying... especially with how she might have treated him after he was 4...

After that, seems an idea came to your mind, Tsu? ♡

Yes lmaooo. Folks have lost their minds lol. Hell, sometimes it’s not even about the fic. Sometimes it’s just some idiotic college kid & their friends, pressed because I said it’s wild to ship the “he murdered her mom” fanon couple… in a post… on here… on my own blog, and so they try to come into my comment sections on ao3 being cunts unprovoked… Or it’ll be some unhinged Bucky stan, upset because I had the audacity to mention something that actually happened in canon, again, here on my own blog 😂😂 Anyway, that’s why my comment sections have restrictions on them now.

Hmm. I think I’m realistic when writing stories, or at least as realistic as the plot allows. Like, for example, you ever read a fic with a kid, and you can tell that not only has the author never talked to a kid (or even met a kid) as an adult, but they’ve also somehow forgotten everything about being a kid? Well, yeah, that’s not me lol. If there’s a kid in my fic, they’re gonna be more Huxtable than Griffin — not to use the word normal, but they’re going to be normal.

I also think I write family interactions pretty well. Plus I’m good at adding drama that’s soapy, but that could also totally happen. This is just a long winded way of saying, I can write characters that seem like someone you could meet, and that’s harder than one might think.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Smut. Definitely smut. Enjoy reading it, feel super weird writing it. (It’s probably my inner cradle Catholic jumping out lol.)

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Okay, I think I’ve done this like once maybe. Anywho, I think it’s cool; I just don’t really ever end up doing it.

don't think it's the case here really because killing nick seemed pretty darned justified at this point but have noticed when there is a moral quandary to be had over killing someone, it's usually someone else that actually does it these days. if blog search actual functioned, you could get a number of results for quandary :p

music while they're searching the cabin for jack/mary/dead nick is good. reminds me of hmm. modern thriller during a spooky/unsettling scene music. lol (it's christopher lennertz and tim wynn on music this ep. confirming yet again i am scores more likely to enjoy lennertz's score vs jay gruska's)

moments like this where it's like i can see the promise of what this show could be. a scene that's genuinely unsettling. slowing down and not focusing on this breakneck knee deep plot machinations, but setting a scene where the emotional tension that we know mary is dead and we're dreading them finding her, and finding this instead. dunno. it was very effective (and the music continued to be appropriate)

CASTIEL I know you know this, Mary, but, um, Sam and Dean -- they're -- they're glad to have you back. Whatever you still have to deal with and however long it takes, you should know they're happy. I mean, finally, they don't have to be so, um, so alone. MARY Castiel. They were never alone.

um, i think that's a bit of a stretch lol. cas was not around that much, and when he was it wasn't always good. they had bobby, lost bobby. have jody but see her even less. they've been hobbling between meager support systems for a while. cas only seems to really qualify in that way visibly onscreen in the past season or two at most? they talked him up but we didn't see it much.

DEAN Might have been Lucifer. Nick was trying to bring him back. SAM Yeah, but Jack said-- DEAN Who cares what Jack said? We don't know what happened! But I swear, if he did something to her, if she is -- then you're dead to me.

well. we know dean gets over shit pretty fast when it comes to the core group all things being equal, so i imagine he'd come around in a moderate amount of time. not like cas is ultimately culpable, not like when he broke sam's wall, for instance. it was a fuckup, but would jack have done something awful inadvertently-ish even if sam and dean knew right away when cas found out he definitely was off? ehh. everyone knew he wasn't acting quite right. but all bets are off when the person getting killed is mary (or heaven forbid, sam)

DEAN No, he knew. He knew something was wrong with the kid. He knew it, and he didn't tell us! He didn't even tell us! CASTIEL I was scared. I believed in Jack for so long, I I believed that he was -- he was good. I -- I knew that he would be good for the world. And he was good for us. My faith in him, it -- it never wavered, and then I-I saw what he did. It wasn't malice. It wasn't evil. It was like Jack saw a problem, and in his mind, he just solved it with that snake. DEAN The snake?! CASTIEL What he did wasn't bad. It was the absence of good. And I saw that in him. But we were a family, and I didn't want to lose that, so I thought I could fix it on my own. you know i was thinking about this last night. and i think about the same kind of thing fairly regularly. mary could see she had reason to be scared of jack after the cruel way he killed nick (which everyone is a lot more upset about than i anticipated but ok). yet she still wouldn't lie to him about not telling sam and dean. an unstable, infinitely powerful child, essentially. and i think about the way that some people respond to people that are being aggressive or whatever. and you know, when you're someone that has been abused (like myself) sometimes you come away with a pretty ingrained fear of anyone acting off to do anything to avoid setting them off. i know that's not everyone's experience, for sure. but that was kind of an essential survival coping mechanism for me that's carried through. it doesn't serve me well in a lot of every day social conflict potential situations, but it is one that i think can sometimes keep you from getting killed 🤪

MARY Sam, everyone here understands what you've been doing and what you've been putting yourself through. SAM Yeah, I know, but Jack's been through a lot -- you know, losing his powers.And I haven't really been there for him.Sorry, Mom. I don't mean to lay all this on you. MARY No. Are you kidding? It's nice knowing I'm not the only one with parental guilt. How much did the two of you go through when I wasn't there for you? well. i guess they get some closure at least, having a body. i think by rights this should be upsetting me, but it isn't? nothing like the this season's absolute disaster of jack dying originally and dean hellbent on committing suicide/eternal torture. that was like. 3 solid episodes of ugly crying my way through them.

Pain Relief - Edward Nygma x GN! Reader

Fandom: Gotham (TV)

Summary: You wake up on a bad pain day and Ed's there to comfort you.

Word Count: 1,250

Notes: I somewhat meant this to be a reader with chronic pain, but I'm just writing based on myself and I don't know if I experience chronic pain or if my back just hates me lol. So open to interpretation I guess! Gender-neutral reader, no pronouns used. I was imagining this with pre-Riddler Ed. This is also my first time writing him ever so he may be ooc.

You wake up slowly to a hand softly playing with your hair. You grumble a little, not appreciating being woken up. Then you realize you’re laying on your boyfriend's chest and you settle a bit.

“Mm, morning Ed,” you say with a yawn, nuzzling your face into him. His hand stops petting you for a moment so you can adjust, then goes back to playing with your hair.

“Good morning, did I wake you?” he asks. 

“A little,” you laugh. You’re interrupted by a wince though.

“Are you okay?” Edward asks. 

Being asleep is great because it means you’re blissfully unaware of your back pain. Now that you’re awake, you can feel the soreness of your muscles, cracking and snapping with every movement after hours of being still.

“Back,” you whine, sitting up. Your goal was to stretch and try to ease your back, but pain shoots up your spine and into your shoulders as soon as you’re up. “Fuck!” You slouch over in pain, feeling the bed shift beside you.

“Hey, hey, here, sit up straight.” He rubs your back, paying attention to your shoulders as you sit up with a wince. “I know love, I know. How bad is it?”

You roll your shoulders, assessing the pain. “Ehh…, a five or six. Worse when I move I think.”

You finally look back at Ed, rubbing the sleep out of your eyes. He’s in his white tank top and missing his glasses, meaning he probably hasn’t been up long. His hair’s all messed up from sleep and his eyebrows are drawn together in worry. Edward holds your face gently and you lean into the touch with a sigh.

“What’s the time?” you ask, wondering when the two of you need to get down to the station.

“It was nearly eight when I woke up,” Ed says, leaning in and kissing your cheek softly. “But I’m going to call in sick for us.”

You immediately try to argue with him; you hate missing work and you hate him missing work because of you even more. But he kisses you, at the same time working out a knot in your back and the worries melt away.

He pulls away and smiles at you. “Alright, what do you think about a hot bath and some tea?” 

You sigh, a lovesick grin spreading across your face. “You’re too good to me Eddie.”

His face turns red and he smiles wide. Pressing one last kiss to your face, Edward gets out of bed. He slips on his glasses, turning back to you.

“I’ll go start the bath,” he says, leaning down and kissing your forehead softly. “I’ll be back in a minute or you can meet me in there, whichever you prefer.”

With that, he disappears to the bathroom and you can hear the water start. You sigh and roll your shoulders, trying to ease a bit of the pain before you have to get up. Higher pain days always suck, but they’ve been getting easier with Edward around to help. 

You slowly maneuver yourself out of bed, standing and stretching with a groan. Your joints pop and your back cracks, still not providing any relief. A laugh comes from the bathroom and Ed pops back into the room.

“I swear I could hear your back crack from in there,” he laughs, leaning down and kissing your head. “Not really, of course, but I could tell that it was bad.”

You chuckle at his antics. “Yeah, you’re not wrong.” He places a hand on your back and leads you to the bathroom. You both know him leading you isn’t necessary but it’s a shared comfort; he feels better knowing he can help in some way and you feel better knowing someone cares about you.

He moves away from you when you get into the room, checking the temperature of the bath. He looks satisfied and turns off the running water.

“A bubble bath?” you ask with a grin. He knows how much you love those.

“Of course, mental comfort is just as important as physical comfort.” He comes over to you and wraps his arms around you. You melt into the taller man, even more so when he rubs your back again.

He pulls away and you whine, missing his touch already. “I know, but you need to get in the bath and I need to make tea.” He presses a kiss to your cheek and heads out of the room, leaving you alone to get undressed.

You strip quickly and slump into the hot bath with a sigh. You can already feel your tense muscles relax and your mind wander off. The smell of lavender and citrus floods your senses, no doubt from the bubble bath solution. It’s so relaxing, you don’t know why you ever thought about passing this up for work.

You have no idea how much time passes before you hear Edward enter the room again. You crack your eyes open with effort, turning to look up at your smiling boyfriend, who’s now holding a cup of tea.

“Do you still want this, or are you going to fall asleep in there?” he asks with a little laugh. You know notice he has a stool in the other hand, which he brings behind the standing tub. 

He hands you the cup over your head with a little warning of its temperature. When you take it, his now free hands wander on your shoulders, rubbing them soothingly. He hums a tune you don’t recognize while you sip your tea. It’s your favorite, made just the way you like it.

“Ed, I don’t know what I ever did to deserve you,” you sigh as his hands move down to your back.

“You were you,” he says, words full of love. “You’re amazing and you deserve a life full of this. Hot baths and warm tea, affection and love, you deserve it all.”

You don’t reply, getting choked up at the sentimental words. You just bask in the intimate moment. Ed starts up his humming again and finishes his massage, now getting your hair wet and washing it for you.

After you finish your tea and you’re thoroughly relaxed, he leaves you to shower and wash up. You turn off the water when you’re done, slipping on a robe and heading back to your shared bedroom.

Edward is there arranging the blankets. “There you are. I put these in the dryer so the bed will be warm.” You smile brightly and stride over, tucking yourself into his waiting arms. “How’s your back? I grabbed pain medication if you need it.”

“A lot better,” you sigh, pressing your face into his neck. “Still hurts, but a lot better than it was.” He pulls away gently, holding your hands.

“Good, I’m glad.” He pulls you to the bed, letting you settle in before he lays beside you.

You immediately lean into him with a sigh. He gathers you in his arms, holding you close. 

“I hurt the most when lost, yet also when not had at all. I’m sometimes the hardest to express, but the easiest to ignore. I can be given to many, or just one. What am I?” You think for a moment before smiling wide at him. 

“Love.”

He smiles and kisses your forehead. He hugs you softly, running his hands comfortingly over anywhere he can reach. You drift back to sleep like that, warm and happy with the one you love.

I read your post on why you think utsuro is a poorly written antagonist and while you’ve made some criticism some good others ehh I understand that not every villain can be johan libert or Griffith and I think utsuro is a solid antagonist

While I do utsuro is a solid antagonist I would be lying if I said I didn’t think he was the best one in fact I can think of four antagonists in this series who I feel are better than him(takasugi kamui oboro sasaki) I’m writing or appeal and while I did find the finale satisfying I would be lying if I said I did think there was more to be done but that’s me how do you feel about this(comment not ending you’ve made your stance clear)

Hello! First of all thank you for taking your time to read that post and write me this message 🤗 I know some points weren’t clear enough because I usually prioritize getting to the point over thoroughness.

I feel like comparing Utsuro to villains from other series could set the bar too high or too low depending on how you look at it, especially since what a villain should be depends on the story being told. Although I admit it can be useful sometimes, so I'll do it to point out a couple of things. But first I want to talk about Utsuro as a villain in Gintama's narrative. Please bear with me, it won’t be short lol

Gintama has had many antagonists throughout the series, with a characterization depending on the role each one of them had. I make this point because I think it’s important to note that an antagonist that excels in one situation may be bad in another and vice versa from a narrative standpoint. From the audience’s point of view, it’s natural to expect something more from someone who’s supposed to be a relevant villain, especially if they’re the last one. 

I could say that Utsuro was a better antagonist than Catherine, for example. But she was never meant to be an important one (or even a recurring character for that matter). So, in this case it's best to compare his character with other Gintama villains. You mention Takasugi, Kamui, Oboro and Sasaki doing a better job at it, and I agree. I would also add other great ones like Itou, Hosen, Jiraia, Jirochou and Sada Sada.

To tell you the truth, I wouldn’t have minded if Utsuro was a comedic villain. Heck, he’s the type of villain Gintama would mock at the beginning. I didn’t address this before, but I find him so cliché… Sorachi tried so hard to make Utsuro look intimidating, but he ended up looking silly, and not in a funny way. Even the anime gave him a soundtrack with an organ that reminded me of vampire movies from the 60's 🤣

I made some points in the original post about how he doesn’t make sense because he ignores the easy solutions in plain sight, but there’s also the issue of how illogical his lack of action is for most of the series. To be precise, there’s a 10-year gap between the “death” of the Shouyo persona and the return of the Utsuro persona, but there isn’t a good reason why we don’t see him act until Farewell Shinsengumi arc.

If we compare him with Takasugi, it’s understandable why the latter takes time: he needs financing, manpower and specific alliances, among other stuff. In the grand scheme of things, Takasugi is just a small fry. But Utsuro already has all those resources, so we have to assume he doesn’t make any moves “just because”.

That’s a problem that comes with being the big bad of the story. Take for example Ozai from ATLA and Voldemort from Harry Potter. Both of those villains are often criticized for their lack of characterization; however, they succeed in a very important aspect in which Utsuro falls short: making their presence felt throughout the story. Ozai does despicable things that impact the entire world and the people close to Aang. Voldemort actively hunts Harry as he carries out his plans. In Utsuro’s case, he simply appeared out of nowhere.

One could argue that since he’s a twist villain he can’t be held to the same standards. This might work in some scenarios, however, with Utsuro this doesn’t happen because there’s no proper build up.

Let’s go back to square one. The surprising element of Utsuro’s reveal was that we knew this character before as Shouyo and thought he was good. However, when said villain isn’t the same character but another personality, the whole concept fails. You need to be able to look back on things and realize all the signs where there from the start for a twist villain to work. It all has to do with expectations. It’s different to have a plot twist you didn’t think would happen, than have one with no basis to even think it could happen, if you know what I mean.

I understand why Sorachi may’ve wanted a different villain than Takasugi to carry this theme of emptiness he wanted to portray, but Utsuro’s character was flawed from the beginning. In that sense, I think Oboro would’ve been an interesting choice as the final villain of the series. For starters, he wasn’t introduced at the last minute, and he checks the boxes of being affiliated to the big evil organizations that are the Tendoshuu and the government, as well as being connected to Gintoki and being the cause of his biggest tragedy. I haven’t given it much thought but wanted to include the idea for the lulz haha

With the comedy parts of Gintama (or any media really) I can turn off my brain and just enjoy it, but if the series wants people to take some parts of the plot seriously, I think it’s normal for there to be more serious criticism. Now, on the more subjective side, Utsuro is my “you killed my friends!” anime moment because he drove away a lot of fans at that time 😂😭

Aaaaaaaa I think I got a couple! Hold up lemme try to recall them:

When Isfan is doing something, he tends to hum soft lil tunes absently. Is it a particular song? Ehh, not really. Literally just no thoughts head empty just random tunes.

Zaravant whistles a lot. I don't know why I hc him that way.

Shapur has sung lullabies to soothe a smol Isfan countless times. Perhaps even every night. It helps little Isfan sleep, and calm down after nightmares.

I somehow can't get the mental image of Daryun singing something with an evil grin and Narsus trying to shut it out being all “STOOOOP YOU MONSTER”. I don't know what Daryun would be singing to get Narsus to react like that, but it's clear he's doing it on purpose to mess with Narsus.

Isfan tends to find a melody in nature— like say, the slow pitter-patter of raindrops, some frog croaking in the distance, stuff like that. His innate connection with nature also meant that he can feel out its melody. He thinks everyone else can do it too though. Oh and sometimes his humming can be influenced by whatever he hears out there in nature.

Merlaine appreciates a good singing voice. Maybe he'd prefer softer, quieter songs, perhaps to contrast his father's (very bad) loud boisterous singing voice?

Alfarīd likes to sing, and dance too. If there's a celebration or something she'd be one of the people dancing to the joy. I think she'd make quite a merry dancer, can't tell you why though.

I think Arslan would like to sing and dance too, but is too shy to do it, afraid people might think it's improper. Somebody should push him to do it.

Sam has a nice voice, but he often doesn't know what to sing so he just doesn't. What a waste!

It's been a very long time since Hilmes sang. He last did it for Irina, perhaps under the excuse of teaching her about Parsian music or something, lol. I think a smol Hilmes before the fire may have expressed interest in picking up an instrument or something. It's just the vibes I got.

Irina looooooves music. She sings and hums a lot too, and makes cute lil noises. She always asks Militsa to sing for her, and who'd say no to a face like that?

Ayyar always pesters his grandpa to sing for him. And he always sings along too.

In Winds of Wolfsong, the clan has so. many. things. centered around song and dance. Solstices and equinoxes? Let's sing and dance! Many of their history and myths? Songs! Celebration? Song! Funeral? Song! There are games played by families or just bored colleagues where they piece random songs together or come up with lyrics on the fly or stuff like that. Just... songs.

On that note, music is thought to be the bridge between worlds, the language of all languages that transcend barriers. It's used as a medium to communicate with spirits, and they have traditional dances— dances to old and ancient melodies endeavoring to sync up the body and soul to what the song is conveying, if that makes sense? It's also a form of magic. Not every clan member is a dancer, though.

Kazai's a dancer. Arslan is too. Gieve sings, and plays the oud as in canon, but with a magical twist of course. Maybe he too uses it to ask spirits questions. Ayunnen and Kashi used to sing together under the moonlight. In this AU too Farangis sings and chants melodic prayers— just not to the Parsian gods. Isfan sings a lot more in this AU too.

Ayunnen had the gentlest, most soothing voice you've probably ever heard. Kashi's voice was... hm, how do I describe it— stronger? firmer? Something like that.

Shapur seems like someone who'd sing for his beloved.

Snc and Kat should learn to drop some friends. I am talking about “friends” like Shea, Stas or Brennen.

I just don’t think that people who don’t respect you and want to take the biggest advantage of you that they can basically can… are your friends. Those are just people who are FRIENDLY because they see some opportunity to gain smth from you if they will play your friend.

1:07am: Just going to keep journaling so I don't go insane. My ex keeps jerking me around and I can't continue to care. He's so wrapped up in his own emotion, he will never be capable of actually being a good friend. He never asks if I'm ok or tries to make casual conversation, it's just all about him and his constant state of drama. I just can't relate to him anymore and I can't continue on the way I've been trying to. There's literally not much I can control or change about this situation, I can only be responsible for how I react to it I guess.

On another note, I finished my laundry! Tomorrow I will get up, take a shower, shaving is not necessary I just need to clean myself so literally no pressure. Drink some water, take my vitamin, hang out with my cats. Probably take a tums bc my farts are DEADLY rn and I don't know why RIP. If I do shave it would probably just be my coochie tbh. Some light weed whacking lmao. If I keep farting like rotten eggs I'm definitely not making any man plans tomorrow 🤣 I cantttttt haha

I think tomorrow I might clean out my closet now that it's clean?? There's so many items I never wear tbh. Maybe shave up to my knees and get a pedicure?? ahh thank you baby!!! no it's okay I didn't make a big deal about my birthday this year so it's fine 😊 it was the day after we got back from our road trip and I stayed with my sister for a few days and just hung out with her! she got me some cute lil harry coded fruit hair clips and made me dinner and we had cake and ice cream and watched a movie with her roommate!

oh no I don't mind saying what happened! I honestly thought I had already said, I'm sorry! my mom and I were leaving to go grocery shopping and I got kicked by a horse. our road trip was only a few hours away but it was to see my little brother who we hadn’t see since december of 2021! we spent 4 days there and didn’t get to do a lot, but it was still great to visit him and his girlfriend. we hung out by the pool, ate at some cute little restaurants, saw the new little mermaid movie, and did some shopping 😊

Care to share some of your RoosMav headcanons about their relationship post-movie? 👀

Well I'm glad you asked! Because I've been thinking about this a lot and it's actually kind of challenging to figure it out haha. The TG movies are pretty light on story, which is fine, but the lack of background information for many of the characters does force us to fill the gaps in with our own fanon (and with this being an ask about them as a ship, everything I say is obviously made up by me lol), but I like to think that

With Mav getting closure over Goose's death and Rooster forgiving Mav for keeping him from the NA, both of them are in a place where they can begin to mend their relationship. I don't know how long it's been since they had their falling out, I mean, the movie tells us that Rooster went to college, but I don't know if he applied to the NA before or after college. You can probably figure it out if you take a closer look at the dates on his career file, but ehh, I just prefer to think that he and Mav were on good terms until Rooster was in his early 20s. They've probably had a few tense run-ins over the years, maybe Mav tried to reach out to Rooster once or twice a year, but Rooster didn't want anything to do with him until now, and things are probably a little awkward at first when it's just the two of them and there's no rank between them as a buffer. But maybe they get really hammered one night at Mav's place in Nevada and hash things out and wake up (in the same bed!!!) really hungover, but both of them are happy for the first time in years.

I like to think that Rooster moves in with Mav, but there's still an element of long distance in their relationship because of the nature of their work. Rooster is still so young that I see him working for the Navy like before and there will probably be long stretches of time when he's deployed somewhere far away from Mav. But hey, it's a great excuse to have steamy phone sex! 😏 I also really wanna see Mav slow down a little. I mean, I know he's Maverick and he'll always feel the need, the need for speed, but he's what, 57? That's pretty old for a fighter pilot/test pilot. Google tells me that the average fighter pilot is between 25 and 40, and most of them retire in their 40s or early 50s, because their work is so taxing on the body. I think I like to picture Mav in the role of an instructor. I know he's struggled with it in the past, but he did really well with Rooster and his other students! And the new movie makes it pretty clear that Mav was ready to settle down. Rooster's words about Mav not having a family seemed to hit him really hard 🥺 So I want him and Rooster to settle down and be their own little family unit and enjoy a life of domestic bliss whenever Rooster is home 🥰

And now that the guilt over Goose has been exorcised and Mav no longer feels like he has to be some kind of replacement father figure for Rooster, even the romantic side of their relationship can stand on a more balanced and healthy foundation. Don't get me wrong, I would read a dozen fanfics about a more messed up version of their relationship where Mav is full of guilt and Rooster is channeling his absent daddy issues into their relationship, but I like their post-canon relationship to be happy.

There's a pretty big age gap between them, though I don't think it's that significant when Rooster is already in his mid- to late thirties, but I bet there are still lots of little moments when Mav being a boomer really shows lol. It's such a cliche, but I don't think Mav is a very tech-savvy guy, not because he's a boomer, but because he just doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who'd have any interest (or patience) for things like Facebook or other social media. That man is old-school. Though he does text with Ice! I've DMd about this with a couple of people and I don't know if you're one of them, anon haha, but Mav definitely has a whole camera roll full of cute and unflattering pictures and videos of Rooster on his phone! He always picks the most random and awkward moments like Rooster with his mouth full of food or with his eyes half-closed or snoring on the sofa, and the only reason Rooster lets him get away with it is because he knows that Mav will never post them anywhere. Also, Rooster definitely has a secret folder on his phone that's full of pictures of Mav, taken in secret like Mav changing out of his oil-stained shirt and Mav asleep in post-coital bliss with the sheets barely covering the goods) and he jerks off to them furiously when they're separated.

Oh wow, this is already so long, but I just wanna end this with a headcanon I have about Rooster being really free and open with his affection, especially when it's just the two of them. I think he likes to touch and be touched and he also likes to be held, and it's a little awkward sometimes because he's so tall and big and it probably looks a little goofy, but Mav is happy to let Rooster cling to him like a limpet 😆
