supernatural s11e4 baby (w. robbie thompson)

i've seen a number of gifs from this episode and i've built it up in my mind as an episode i should enjoy which makes me nervous to watch it :S

enjoying the variety of shots being in baby's pov and the guitar man by bread, nice choice (night after night who treats you right)

very fic-ish slice of life domestic vibes. both jared and jensen seem to be leaning into their accents more than usual, i often wonder about that. what decides when they do it, if it's a choice (i can only imagine it is). anyway, it's very... homey. relaxed

very normal

ack making me cry with all these smiles and sweetness. robbie, this is the fanservice i needed (and deserved). goddamn what a breath of fresh air it's like concentrated version of old times with just the two of them, but being relaxed and happy for a minute as the cherry on top.

DEAN Piper? That's awesome. Heather. One-night wonders, man. Shoot, we're lucky we still get that at all. SAM Really? You don't... ever want something more? DEAN I'm sorry, have you met us? We're batting a whopping zero in domestic life, man. Goose eggs. SAM You don't ever think about something? Not marriage or whatever. But... something? You know, with a hunter? Somebody who understands the life? DEAN Have you not heard a single word Bob's been singing about? You're tired. I can tell. You're exhausted. Well, I'm still wired, so I'm gonna pull over, get some gas. You hop in the back, get some Z's 'cause, buddy, you earned 'em. Proud of ya! Piper. Mmm. Man, she smelled good, too.

yes, sam, you're right. dean should consider settling down with a hunter—oh wait. wonder what that "have you not heard a single word bob's been singing about" means though. i'm not that familiar with his catalogue of work :p

literally sobbing what even is happening. wish fulfillment that dean could get the parental approval and validation that he did a good job with sam, and acknowledging how much he did raising him.

so is this lucifer? show brought him up making a fuss in the cage with the darkness busting out, and the whole i never could fool you thing. like he showed up as jess (??) in a dream did sam figure it out? no, he didn't know. hmmm. surely not god though :p

SAM I prayed when I was in that church, and I saw... something. And now, here you are, whoever you are, whatever you are. What the hell is this? JOHN Dream. Vision. Call it what you want. The message is still the same. The Darkness is coming... and only you boys can stop it.

again, i rag on the musical score a lot but the foley and overall sound design minus the score tends to really be noticeably good. and i really like what they did with the sound and the filming in this scene. where there's kind of a low wavering thrumming hum and their voices sound more close up. and i really liked that they didn't do any noise hits when he flashes back briefly to the torture vision, it was just a little extra very low soft bass thumping with the flashes. all that combined with these super tight close shots of their faces kind of adds to the slightly uneasy/unreality feeling. very nice

dean really going in on the accent in this conversation in the car. i'm not one to anthropomorphize cars (i love cars and my car) but they're definitely getting to me with that whole.. baby has bore witness to so many conversations and fights and... like the hannibal quote

the wins keep coming, sam telling dean about being infected. thank you, robbie, good sir. to keep things reasonable dean blows off the visions because he's mad or whatever

DEAN Come on, man. That quote? "God helps those who help themselves"? God didn't say that. That's not even in the Bible. That's an old proverb that dates way back to Aesop. I read.

it's so hit or miss on whether dean is well read or it's a joke that he doesn't know about stuff. consistency! 🥴 he read the odyssey, didn't know who calliope is, etc. i know i've talked about this before but can't find it.

DEAN I have that dream every couple of months. Kind of comforting, actually.

and dean's dream about john and having a normal life? i haven't felt this many feelings since probably s5. and all the little domestic canon tidbits they're feeding us, just wow

DEAN I know what you're trying to do here. You're trying to find some -- some greater meaning to it all. Right? Some fate to what went down. But I'm telling you, Sam. The Darkness? It's on us. And no one's gonna help us, certainly not God, so we'll have to figure this thing out, like we always do. But until then we hunt.

don't love how he's blowing him off (though i mean, not terribly unexpected), do appreciate that sam reiterated that he doesn't think it was just a dream

even in the fake recreated car interior sam looks so uncomfortably cramped. and as ever consider there's an actual roof over their heads to contend with when contemplating them full on fucking back there in fic :p

the deputy i looked up because he's a redhead and looks kinda like sheriff stilinksi from teen wolf, it's the guy that was in a different ep of spn (7x04) that i looked up because he's pale and freckly. and he was in altered carbon.

it's so interesting how natural the episode is flowing even with the rather large limitation of having everything take place in the car, and not feel gimmicky. even this little interlude with the girls on the joyride is lifted by an excellent song choice, and the scene seems to be referencing the video, and they're doing an actual car stunt that we get to see from the inside

was thinking last night that dean would likely notice his car being dusty as shit after doing donuts in a dirt lot :P but i'm glad she got to have her fun consequence-free, and Baby too

so pleased with himself. this is all very cute honestly. it could have gone over the top slapstick having to keep dealing with this were-pire that won't die, but there was some restraint. the muffled growling and snarling from the cooler is just the right kind of goofy for me (not having music i think helps)

During the filming of the episode, during the scenes where the Deputy Donelly attacks Dean, Jensen found the remains of the Impala that was smashed up at the end of 1.22 Devil's Trap.

i can't remember an episode i wholeheartedly enjoyed as much as this one in a long damned time. i needed that. along with some somewhat cathartic sobbing :p skin cleared, crops watered, etc

Ok, so. Danneel’s first con was a Starfury. Jensen said she shouldn’t brag. And a bit later Jensen said he had the dancing covered. (x)

“as long as there’s no dancing i’ll be fine” “it’s okay i have that covered” (x)

“we’ve got to develop some projects currently in development” (x)

Jensen saying he’s really proud of what they’ve been doing with the Winchesters and what’s in the work. (x)

“i wanna work with the people i know i trust and who are outstanding human beings” (x)

Dream projects? Jensen: “Ruth would obviously be the star.” (Ruth is watching from the balcony.) “Oh hey, Ruth, didn’t see you there.” He wants to work with the people he trusts, outstanding human beings. (x)

Jensen: “we’ve had 15 years to weed out the bad people, I’m not sure how Mark Sheppard is still here…” (x)

Jensen just wants to work with the people he’s got to work with who are just good people. It’s gotta be grounded in love, family, a tad of humor and a little magic. (x)

Jensen helping Danneel count for how many years they’ve been together when she started as Anael on SPN (x)

How was it working on set. Danneel struggles with how long she’s been together with Jensen. Jensen knows it would’ve been 12 seasons when she came in at 13 and is proud he knows. (x)

Jensen immediately asked “IS THAT ON THE GAG REEL” when Danneel fell during her first scene on SPN (x)

“i did not act like a husband in that moment” jensen too focused on getting danneels gag reel moment on film instead of helping her (x)

Danneel put together a whole playlist for The Winchesters before they even cast anyone, and a lot of it actually made it onto the show. They chose “I’d Love To Change The World” which in the pilot FIRST. (x)

Which scene with music from The Winchesters did they like most? Danneel put together a playlist before they even cast, a lot of it made it on the show. “10 years after”/I love to change the world” (?) really set the tone. (x) But a lit of songs they wanted were too expensive to afford. On SPN, as production got more expensive, they had to stop using music so much, used more score to save money (x)

“i get to go and destroy some robots in a warehouse? i’m in. i’m easy” (x)

Jensen is easy. When he heard he gets to come on the set and destroy a bunch of robots, he was in, but doesn’t play a lot of video games. Danneel snitches that he plays Mario Cart with the kids almost daily. (x)

Jensen said he doesn't play video game anymore but Danneel said he plays Mario Kart almost everyday with the kids (x)

In his old house pre-Danneel he had a special dark room with two TVs and two couches to play Halo with his friends. (Danneel snitches again.) He plays “blue shy guy” on Mario Cart. (x)

Fan asked if Jensen plays video game and Danneel went “well you play one every day”. And Jensen went “Wordle? … BACKGAMMON?!” (The answer is Mario Kart because he plays it with the kids) (x)

help jensen is so excited to introduce his kids to his fave videos games when they’re older and he also doesn’t always let his kids win video games which danneel finds mean considering he’s competed by 6 year olds (paraphrase) (x)

“I know your next question, it’s ‘what character do I choose on Mario kart’, the answer is blue shy guy. I’m a shy guy ” (x)

Q person reccs Red Dead Redemption. Jensen really wanted The Last of Us, but when he heard Pedro got the job, he knew he had no shot. (x)

Jensen really wanted to be on The Last of Us, then he heard Pedro Pascal got the part and went “oh no he’s PERFECT” (im paraphrasing but he was nerding out ) (x)

They’re talking about recreating the music video for their anniversary. Their friend did it first as a birthday gag. So he suggested they do it “for instagram”. Danneel was like “let’s go”. and they got into a serious fight over who would be Paul Simon (x)

Danneel says they do zero work for instagram content. Q was about the music vid years ago. The Ackles’s argued who plays Chevy and who plays Paul Simon. Jensen complains about having to be the short guy again. He’s gonna get a complex. He yells for Mark to come down. (x)

Danneel telling Jensen he was so good on their anniversary video, and telling him “you were made to play Paul Simon” (x)

“it was very rare for him to be home during the week… for 15 years” (x)

He also said he was really sad his kids wouldn’t get to experience the whole ‘taking the cartridge off and having to blow on it for it to work again’ (x)

Danneel didn’t wanna be in The French Mistake bc it’s “Jensen’s thing” (x)

Karaoke. Danneel only did it once. Sang “Band of the run” and there was a very long musical interlude. It scared her so much she never did it again. Jensen went with the Dawson’s Creek gang and sang “El Paso”. (x)

Everyone put their glass down either in amazement or shock. There’s a plate in a corner of that bar with an etching how great that night was, Jensen jokes. (x)

Editor, director, actor walk into a bar, you can only buy one drink? Danneel: Editor, they can make you look good. Jensen: Would buy himself a drink. (x)

Danneel once got handed a bag with her as a doll filled with fish hooks. She blindly reached in the bag and straight into a hook. (x)

They’re talking about creepy fans, and Danneel just said “they’re not fans of the show, fans of the show don’t do these things” (x)

danneel is telling a story abt her accepting a gift off a fan of her being made into a doll out of fish hooks and she accidentally got hurt and jensen said ‘you know how much i had to PAY for that doll?!’ (x)

Weirdest thing given to Jen and Dee, someone left a dead kitten on their door step (x)

jensens talking about how performing radio company concert for the first time was a very different experience to acting or performing other peoples songs bc with those other two you interpret it your own way but it’s still other peoples words but these were his and steve’s (x)

Playing in Nashville and performing words he actually wrote himself with Steve was “next level”. Danneel adds that he was nervous and he doesn’t get nervous. (x)

“to get out there and perform something you created it’s certainly more of a vulnerability” (x)

danneel watched the concert with the kids on stageit. “they thought it was cool” (x)

The kids were pretty impressed seeing him on stage, but they see him play a lot, because he plays them songs on the piano at home all the time. (x)

Kim Manners and Bob Singer, they both set the tone on the show. Micromanaged. Kim said “you’re gonna direct one day” to Jensen and it got him thinking. It was becausehe was interested in the lenses, lighting & such. (x)

Bob and Phil Sgriccia helped him a lot. Phil said “always have an answer, even if it’s wrong.” Because when you say “you pick” or “whatever” to a Q from someone working for you, you dimish the other person’s job. And you can always change your mind & that tells them you thought (x) about it, thus making their job even more important. (x)

To Danneel; how did you know he (Jensen) was THE ONE? Jensen; *cracks up* Danneel: It was on Ten Inch Hero, I always knew he was cute and all of that, but… It was one of those, we were driving back and forth, and just talking about our future, and our career (x) Danneel: I’m a girl who likes to do things first. (…) At the end of the movie, there’s a scene where I walked up to Priestly and gave him a kiss… That was NOT scripted.(x) Danneel: but obviously Jensen had read the script, he knew it wasn’t scripted. I just knew I had to do something else or it would be too late. (x)

danneel knew by the end of filming ten inch hero once they’d spent time doing long drives talking about their futures and everything and then in the scene where she kisses priestly wasn’t scripted and jensen was like “oh!!!!!! i caught a BIG fish let’s go!” (x) “i like your talent your cute your-” “you were like this one can give me good kids” “yeah i saw you with your nephews and-“ “and you were like this is a good pedigree!” (x)

J-yeah but after we dated when did you know I was the one to marry They went on vacation and her mum knew then D needed to marry him. J-i knew I needed to spend the rest of my life impressing her (x)

When did Danneel know that Jensen was the one? They were friends before but thought they would never be together. They carpooled to the Ten Inch Hero set. 40 mins each way, just talking about the future, how they were raised, carreer… (x) She always knew Jensen was cute, but those talks really did it. In the last scene of the movie, the little kiss between their characters wasn’t scripted, that was Danneel making the first move. (x) Jensen immediately knew it was a big fish snd went “bzzzz” (reeling in noise). Jensen prods when she knew he was the one to marry though. They went on a family trip. Then Jensen knew he’d spend the rest of his life trying to impress her. Danneel’s mom knew they were it too. (x)

Jensen: “I’m gonna try to impress for the rest of my life… Still hasn’t done it! I’m gonna keep trying to.” (x)

Danneel said she was really nervous up until she did her first photo ops and everyone was so nice to her (x)

Firstly, i have to say that since your banger amv, i 100% can only associate 'somebody to love' with spn.

So anyway, I was watching a mexican telenovela with my family (which is scored with mostly with like, novela instrumental music and a mexican pop song here and there), and OUTTA NOWHERE they have a dance number set to 'somebody to love. Absolutely jumpscared. Like really? In front of my abuela and god and everybody?

ok i will make my post about legends of tomorrow 5.09 “zari not zari” now. i liked this episode :) introduces charlie’s scary sister and reveals that the other lady is also her sister! the main storyline is a lot more of plot stuff than character stuff which is less interesting to me but it’s engaging enough to watch so that’s fine. of course i adored the zari b-plot as well. zari meets zari! and the ending of this episode....oh boy what a gut punch.

first off i thought it was soooo funny how they referenced supernatural and the legends went to where supernatural was filming. absurdly funny to me that sara is a spn fan and wants to fuck dean. it makes me wonder what tv or movie character ava wants to fuck, my guess would be carol from the movie carol but idk. also funny that neither charlie nor constantine are spn fans. i guess because their lives are already supernatural enough. the spn music cues in the score made me laugh. thanks blake neely and daniel james chan. when sara saw the dead spn production people and was like “if theyre dead then whos filming season 15???” it inevitably made me think of covid. though im sure that wasnt the intention at the time.

charlie’s character has always felt like it was about queerness in textual and metaphorical ways and that is especially present here. even her choice to change her name to charlie and her sisters’ insistence on calling her clotho feels very trans. and charlie’s fear that she is just like her family, and sara’s reassurance that she is a legend because she chose to be one. and this idea of found family. very queer themes. i did find them a little on the cliche side but honestly i didnt really mind. its a good theme and its especially nice to see with a character who is textually bisexual. when sara is trying to strand the bone knife sister in the temporal zone and the bone knife sister is trying to drag sara along with her and charlie shows up and saves sara and cuts her sisters hand off....oh that was wonderful. and the look on sara’s face afterward is great as well. yay for found family and choosing your own destiny :)

finally the zari reveal! love that it’s video games that does it LOL. i think it’s so fun how the scene where zari 2 meets zari 1 really shows the difference in how tala ashe plays both characters. truly girls who say hiii vs girls who say bruh. it’s so nice to see how zari 1 is so overjoyed and relieved to hear that her brother and parents are alive and they have a good life. and i like that zari 2 is made a bit insecure by discovering this past version of her, and worries that she’s somehow lesser. i just really like the identity discovery stuff with zari and i think the show is executing it well.

what a bold and heartbreaking choice to have behrad killed while zari is on her totem trip. i thought the scene where we see zari crying and mourning was so moving. and i loved that she marched up to constantine and said this is YOUR fault and YOU have to help me fix this. it wasnt really said yet in this episode but i suspect that zari is going to be blaming herself for behrad’s death bc she would think about how she could have protected him if she had just not gone on her totem journey. and that might lead to her rejecting the idea of self-exploration altogether. right now she’s lashing out at constantine but i bet she’s gonna lash out at herself next. another thing i found interesting was how atropos (thats her name right?) was saying to behrad about how hes not supposed to be there and he had evaded fate and she was correcting the mistake. i guess thats about zari changing the timeline huh. will be interesting to see how that shakes out.

oh i totally forgot about the mick & ava storyline lol. it was fine i guess. really funny that mick would take family relationship advice from ava who is a clone and did not have a family. not his smartest moment. but i like how ava is so supportive of him and just wants to help. i love that she volunteered to help him, the two of them are so different but she feels a kinship toward him. maybe because, just like her, he is a lot more complex than he first lets on. and also since ava never had a family of course she would want to help mick make amends with his. mick’s daughter seems fun and i will be interested in seeing how the relationship between the two of them progresses. when he was with her for halloween and she dressed up as captain cold.......ohhhhhhhh

How long have you been roleplaying?. Ten, fifteen years. I can’t remember when I started, exactly, but it’s been at least a decade.

What platforms have you played on?. LifeJournal, AIM, Skype, Discord, Tumblr, and chatzy, I think it was called? That’s all I can remember, at least.

Do you make other fanworks, or just roleplay?. I used to write fic; it’s been awhile since I’ve written straight fic, but I like making edits and graphics, icons, etc. when the mood strikes.

Do you prefer canon, divergent or au?. Canon is fun, but limiting in some ways. Divergent and AU allows for a lot more "what if" situations to take place.

How many languages do you write in?. I’m an American; all I know is English ;) (I do wish I connected better with the foreign language classes in school, because I’d love to be fluent enough to write in another, though...)

Where you do you get your inspiration?. Anywhere and everywhere, to be honest.

Do you write with music?. Sometimes; if I do, it’s gotta be instrumental (film scores, classic piano/jazz pieces, etc.) Lyrics make me wanna sing along and I can’t do that while I’m trying to write.

THE.MUSES

How many characters do you write?. Currently? There’s Sasha here, then Billy Russo on another blog, Lucifer on another, and a few lit muses on a multi from fantasy-ish books. I used to have another multi where I wrote several other characters, and an OC multi for a couple of my own creations, but they kinda... died.

Who was your first rp muse?. The first one I can really remember writing in great detail was canon-centric Lucifer in SPN. (My Luci has since long developed past canon things of course; he’s mine now.)

Who is your most recent muse?. Most recently created? Probably either Billy or one of muses on the lit multi. Most recently written was Sasha here.

Which three (3) OCs do you wish got more attention?. I wish my OC blog had gotten more focus. Then I might have kept it going, but the girls never got much attention and it was harder to develop them without that interaction. -shrug-

Which three (3) canons do you wish got more attention?. Rhysand and Lucifer and maybe... Feyre? Or Elain? IDK, probably some on the lit multi.

What song always reminds you of a character? Which one?. I’ve never really connected song-to-character that way. Sorry.

Do you have character playlists?. I used to make some when I was in the SPN and the OUAT fandom; I don’t anymore and it’s been a LONG time since I made one.

Do you have characters you used to write, but don’t anymore?. Oh definitely. Lucifer’s changed drastically, and there was a time I went without writing him (when I started playing with Sasha and Billy and all the Ben Barnes effects ;) ) but um... I wrote Killian Jones and Emma Swan for a while, while OUAT aired. I wrote Regina Mills, I’ve written Loki AND Thor at different times, and I know there’s others, but that’s what I’m remembering right now.

Any you’d love to bring out of retirement?. Maybe my OCs... one day.

Characters you love, but could never write?. I love LOTR, but I don’t feel like I could ever write any of them. Even if I wanted to. That’s probably the main one.

THE.SHIPS

Do you like shipping?. Definitely!

Single or multiship?. Multiship. I mean, I have faves, but definitely multiship on my blogs now.

What was your first ship?. Oh god, I don’t remember. Some of the earlier ones were Michifer (Michael and Lucifer) or Samifer (Lucifer and Sam); I liked the angst and drama and how messed up it all was, sue me. Sirius/Remus was a big one too. Hermione/Draco had an appeal to me too, when I was younger.

Which ship have you always wanted to try writing?. I don’t know, to be honest. I think most of the ships I’ve wanted to write, I find a way to do so? I mean, if I can’t RP it, I’ll write a short ficlet or something. -shrug-

Are there any popular ships you love?. Right now? Or in general? Because right now, Darklina takes the top. I’m also fond of Darkling/Zoya and Darkling/Nikolai. For reasons. General speaking, I’ve never really kept up with the popularity of a ship, so I don’t know for certain, but I loved Captain Swan for the longest time.

Ones you hate?. It wasn’t so much the SHIP, but the fandom that made it unbearable, but Swan Queen was one that for the longest time I couldn’t STAND. I don’t mind it so much now that I’m not deep in the fandom anymore. Funnily enough.

Any guilty pleasure ships?. I’m sure some of them are, but like, I don’t care? It’s a ship and let ship zone here. And if it’s something I don’t like, I just *gasp* ignore it!

Do you ship anything ‘problematic’?. Oh gosh yes. In one way or another, there are many. But like, I LIKE that aspect of them? Does that make sense? If it was all perfect and fluffy, I’d be damn bored REALLY quickly. I like exploring the mess and problems.

Do you have any ships you miss?. I don’t think so. I’ve had some Lusander (Darkling/Luda) that aren’t around anymore... I had some awesome ships with Lucifer too that aren’t around anymore.

Do you prefer common or rare pairs?. I don’t really mind one way or the other. As long as I can see the chemistry, it’s being shipped ;)

THE.FANDOMS

How many fandoms have you written in?. Hmm... Off the top of my head I can think of Harry Potter, Supernatural, Once Upon a Time, The Vampire Diaries/The Originals/Legacies, Grishaverse, ACOTAR series, Netflix/Disney+ The Punisher...

What was the first fandom you wrote in?. I think it was Harry Potter. I’m pretty sure it was HP.

What fandom do you wish more people knew? (And tell us a bit about it!). Um... I don’t really have an answer to this one.

Do you like crossovers?. If we can make it work, sure.

Which fandom have you always wanted to write in?. Shadowhunters. I liked the show well enough, and the books I HAVE read I’ve enjoyed, but I’ve got so many more to read and I just.. haven’t gotten to it yet?

Do you prefer animated, text, or real life media?. Not a huge animated fan, but otherwise, I really don’t care.

What is your favourite genre?. Fantasy. Easily fantasy. And angst. Romantic angst and drama!

Least favourite?. Fluffy romance all the time with now problems-- and comedy. I like a good snark, but that buddy/dumb comedy stuff--I can’t stand it.

What tropes do you love?. Enemies to Lovers is a good one. (Or a good Friends to Lovers to Enemies to Lovers heh). I’m sure there are others, but like... I can’t think of their names right now?

Which do you hate?. Childhood Friends to Lovers just... bores me? I don’t HATE it, but it doesn’t hold my interest like the sexual tension of other tropes.

Do you write in any dead fandoms?. I don’t think so, right now? I’m not sure.

hookman redux? oh no it's just what's her face with the good hair and a sword. i don't remember jody's other girl *at all*. she also does not look remotely like a teenager. i know it's hard with casting young people. anyway, very cute to see jody so happy and proud.

why is there so much weird food content in this episode, please 😭 sam and dean are so bored at home, they should be cooking more. we know they can do it! (dean, you know how happy you could make sam with something simple like this, roast chicken and mashed potatoes and green beans is dead easy and tasty and nutritious!)

hey it's music reminding me of princess bride, i wonder if it's the same music as last time that reminded me of princess bride. that was a while ago (8x06 and 8x14 [which i included a clip of the music, dean setting up his room in the bunker with family pictures etc]). after comparing, the beginning is sorta similar but then it sort of mashes up into something else

i think a lot of it is jody/kim rhodes but the katherine/kathryns also did great making the whole family dynamic with sam and dean work - and the writing! like hey you all can still do a good monster of the week and have really nice, touching and funny moments with the side characters - two episodes in a row! and i didn't even get disgruntled over amara drama once this episode woot woot

watched car episode and to my shock and delight, it was good and ill be clear about why: they didn't do anything. for once in their by-then eleven year history they didn't overcomplicate the concept. nothing that's not a person got turned into a person, nothing got a weird voice or got personified, they just limited the location to "Being In The Car" and then said okay get to it .and that's why it works

#then you actually manage to achieve a tiny bit of atmosphere #bc like everyone's familiar with the experience of Being In The Car #but usually you do not have every single thing in your life happen while you are In The Car #so it gets a slightly cramped liminal energy that works #(although it would've worked better several seasons earlier when they didn't have a HOUSE)#spn #and AND there's no background music! none at all unless they turn on the radio #i almost didn't notice bc tv usually has this unspoken background score but without it and with a limited amount of set and useful angles #you're FORCED to do absolutely nothing but tell an engaging/believable story. the litmus test is. is it still good w/out bells and whistles #and im forced to conclude that yes on its best days. it still hits

I’m a sucker for original soundtracks, so I put together this compilation of original musical scores used in Supernatural available so far. It includes the official Supernatural soundtrack from seasons 1-5, Christopher Lennertz’s complete season 1 soundtrack, and 50 miscellaneous scores used in seasons 1-15. listen but. Not to be pedantic on main about the music studies thing or anything but. You can’t just slap parts of the track onto scenes. without considering the parts of the melodies you’re using and whether or not you’re actually using the leitmotifs, and also like. the leitmotif MEANINGS.

the original scene with the MoC Dean beatdown was really good! Dean’s family dedication theme from Americana came on at JUST the right time! (”Dean. Stop”). It plays thru with imo very effective instrumentation (viola, it sounds like? and something kind of plaintive, maybe a synth? a woodwind of some sort?)

it suspends and cuts off as Dean goes to stab down. there’s no scoring as he gets up. the scoring comes back as we see Cas revealed, with the blade next to his head in a book. a suspension note comes back in to ease it into the last few chords, which happen after Dean says “you and Sam stay the hell away from me.” the last few chords of the theme resolve as he says “next time I won’t miss” but the last chord resolves when we cut back to Cas, bloody, staring at the blade.

That’s incredibly effective! putting part of the “castiel’s theme + Americana” doesn’t... actually do much for that scene, especially bc you’d have to use the identifiable leitmotif to really convey meaning there.
