THE VOICE WILL BE WITH YOU, ALWAYS (#112, OCT 2009)

Scott Chernoff says “Hello there” to James Arnold Taylor as he talks about voicing Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: The Clone Wars along with hundreds of other characters, and the time he was nearly silenced—forever.

He’s the heroic Green Arrow Batman: The Brave and the Bold, erstwhile friend Harry Osborn on The Spectacular Spider-Man, Ratchet of the hit series of Ratchet & Clank videogames, and the new voice of modern Stone Age family man, Fred Flintstone.

But there’s one achievement that towers over the others for voice actor James Arnold Taylor: He’s finally fulfilled his life-long fantasy of playing a major role in the Star Wars saga, starring as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

“I lived and breathed Star Wars as a kid,” Taylor says. “We played all the time—but I was always Han Solo. If somebody told me I was going to be Obi-Wan Kenobi, I would have been like, ‘Wait, I’m the old guy?’”

But despite his tremendous success performing literally hundreds of cartoon characters and videogame voices over the last two decades, Taylor told Star Wars Insider that it nearly all slipped away. “About four years ago,” he reveals, “I lost my voice completely due to toxic mold in our home. When the doctor said, ‘You can’t speak,’ I was like, ‘Uh, that doesn’t work.’”

The incident was a stark reminder of just how precious Taylor’s instrument—his voice—is to him. “I had to start over and change my whole life,” he recalls. “I trained with a gentleman who trains opera singers. I had to learn how to re-use my vocal chords in new and exciting ways.”

EARLY INSPIRATION

Luckily for Taylor—and his fans—the hard work paid off. “I’m stronger now than I’ve ever been. Sometimes, you need something like that to break you down, just to rebuild yourself,” he says.

Now back in the game with three animated series on the air, Taylor is free to pursue the one thing he always loved. “I’ve known since I was four years old that I wanted to do the voices of cartoons,” he says, noting that he drew inspiration from legendary performers like Mel Blanc (who voiced virtually all the Looney Tunes characters), Daws Butler (Yogi Bear), and Don Messick (Scooby Doo and many more). “I was glued to all those guys and memorized their vocal inflections,” he recalls.

“I never had any aspirations to be an on-camera actor—I always wanted to be a voice actor. The truth is I’m the luckiest guy in the world to be able to make my living doing what I always wanted to do.”

STARTING OUT

Taylor started out doing impressions as a stand-up comic and radio disc jockey when he was just 16, moving south to Hollywood from his native Santa Barbara, California, as soon as he got out of school. His first break came in the obscure world of voice doubling, re-recording small bits of dialogue for famous actors who were too busy to come in when a small line needed to be changed. He got a job filling in for Michael J. Fox on the Disney animated feature Atlantis—and soon found himself taking over the lead role entirely for the sequel, Atlantis: Milo’s Return. “I just have a knack for picking up voices,” he shrugs.

Among the stars Taylor has doubled for videogames and feature film looping are Johnny Depp, Billy Bob Thornton—and Ewan McGregor. He started voicing Obi-Wan Kenobi for the first Clone Wars TV micro-series in 2002, then went on to Star Wars videogames and now the new hit TV series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

“Originally, it was to be an exact voice match for Ewan McGregor,” Taylor says. “We basically have the same sound, the same range. So I thought that rather than trying to sound like him, since I know I already do kind of sound like him, I’d just do what he did: try to sound like Alec Guinness. So I started thinking of how he would talk, and I tried to ‘young it up,’ and went, ‘OK, so if I was casually speaking as a young Obi-Wan, I might sound like this.’ I didn’t concentrate so much on sounding like Ewan McGregor as much as I concentrated on sounding like Obi-Wan Kenobi, the character we all know. That seemed to work.”

Taylor explains that for him, focusing too much on precisely matching a specific voice can get in the way of a good performance. “You can get hung up on a voice match where you try too hard to sound like the person and it becomes a caricature. It becomes more the nightclub comic’s impersonation. You want to relax in the voice. You really have to understand how that person would act, and you have to be able to act that way. I always have to envision how he would deliver the line. It’s more than an impersonator would do, because you have to understand the character and be able to say anything in that voice.”

That approach sat well with Clone Wars director Dave Filoni and Star Wars creator George Lucas. “After we’d started the series and done the film, Dave and George said, ‘You have the freedom now to take this and make it your own thing,’” Taylor recalls, adding, “Dave’s vision for Obi-Wan in this series is very specific. He’s trying to show Anakin the right way, but he’s also the calm in the storm. I’m always the straight guy. Most of the time, I’m pulling the reins back on Anakin and Ahsoka, so I’m like the older brother. Nothing really gets to him. But at the same time, I know people may think sometimes he’s a little too reserved, so I’m trying to give him some excitement. Every once in a while, I torture myself and read the message boards, and some people do think he’s got to lighten up. But I just think, ‘Give him time.’ There’s something that happened in a second season episode we did recently, and I can’t really get into it, but it made me think, ‘Oh, we get to see different facets of Obi-Wan in this.’ I’m playing a side of Obi-Wan that nobody’s really seen before.”

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

Taylor thinks that the epic scope of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is allowing a far more personal glimpse of Kenobi than fans have ever seen. “He’s such an iconic figure,” he says, “but you don’t know anything about his personal life. We have many episodes, so now the writers have been exploring those areas. How does he act when he’s gotten up on the wrong side of the bed and he’s having a bad day? What’s his day-to-day relationship with Anakin? It’s been fun to work with everybody and create those parts of his life and his characteristics. I try to put a little of the reserved old Jedi living alone in this deserted part of a desert planet, and the young one who was in the world and so much a part of everything.”

At the same time, Taylor has gotten to give voice to a host of other Star Wars characters, from fan favorite Plo Koon (“Dave said, ‘Think Gandalf,’”— he recalls) to espionage droid 4A-7 (“A whiny, high-pitched guy”) and the medical droid from The Clone Wars movie (“That’s me doing kind of a Jeff Goldblum type voice”).

“That’s another great part about being a voice actor,” he says. “You get to be so many different characters all the time.”

A REWARDING ROLE

All those characters add up to more reasons Taylor is grateful to have re-gained his voice in time to continue his work in the Star Wars universe. “I’m a geek when it comes to this stuff,” he said. “I’m a fan as much as anybody else, so I get into the story, and to me, Star Wars: The Clone Wars is as good as Lost or any other great show. I can’t wait to see the next season, just like everybody else.”

Thinking back on his journey, Taylor adds, “It’s so rewarding. I get so much fan mail from people all over the world, and I’m not trying to sound corny but it moves me—because I’ve always been a fan, and I’ve sent fan letters to people I respect and gotten autographs before, too. So when I get letters from people about how they’re sharing Star Wars with their kids, and they’re thanking me for helping them see this whole universe in a different way, I kind of trip out on it. Daily, I go, ‘Wow, I’m involved in this world, and not just on the sidelines—I’m really involved in the Star Wars universe.’ It’s a great honor.”

(Third film. After “bad guys”. Uma walks into Professor Thatch’s office, ready to ask for a therapy appointment, only to find him talking to a boy about her age, maybe a little older, with long white hair and bright blue eyes)

Uma: oh uh. Sorry. I’ll um. I’ll just. Go. Sorry again.

Milo: Captain, it’s okay. This is my son, Prince Nedahk Thaddeus Preston Thatch of Atlantis

Uma: NTPT. Sounds like a radio station

Ned: you can call me Ned if you like

Uma: then I will. Ned. Um. Prof. Can we. Talk?

Ned: right. Sorry. I won’t take up any more of your time. See you at home dad

Milo: see you there

(Ned leaves the room. Uma watches as he walks away. The Milo clears his throat)

Milo: would you like a seat?

Uma: thanks.

Milo: so what would you like to talk about?

Uma: I let Ben put Harry, Cj and Harriet in the dungeon

Milo: oh?

Uma: they brought it on themselves really. You can only push someone so far until they snap.

Milo: right.

Uma: if it was me I would’ve keelhauled them. Including Harry.

Milo: and you feel like you let Ben take the opportunity from you?

Uma: no. He made the right choice. I’m just wondering if....I have

Milo: pardon?

Uma: is Cj right? Have I changed too much? I don’t feel any different. Except. Less alert. I guess.

Milo: that’s good. It means you feel safe.

Uma: you know what happened to me this past year right?

Milo: I heard. You did what you thought was best for someone you care about

Uma: and now he’s in the dungeon on my say so.

Milo: Uma look at me. You’re brave girl. Who was raised in a situation she was never supposed to be in. And who did whatever she thought was right to get out of it

Uma: I tried to kill the only person who ever wanted help the island. Twice. That’s not what you’d call “right” is it?

Milo: no. But you are changing. The very fact that you’re in this room talking to me about it proves that. You are changing. Repeat that to yourself whenever you think you’re slipping or doubting your current actions. It might help.

Uma: thanks prof

Milo: please. Call me Milo. Reece’s cup?

(Uma gratefully takes the sweet. This is when “I am changing” happens. After the song. Mal is dragging Evie to the ROAR arena. Once Evie’s inside Mal leaves to guard the door)

Evie: no no no no NO YOU EVIL BITCH!!!!

(She turns and sees Hades on the pommel-horse)

Evie: I’m not talking to you. So don’t even try

Hades: you don’t have to talk. But please just listen.

(In the library)

Ben: what do you want belle?

Belle: Gil’s upset

Ben: I’m sorry this is causing him pain but I have absolutely nothing to say to you

Belle: then can you please listen to me as I explain?

(In the grounds)

Facillier: I’m proud of you. It takes a lot of brass to do what you did

Uma: then why do I still feel rotten?

Facillier: because one little therapy session isn’t a quick fix all. Not for people like us

Uma: oh boy. Lemme guess. You’ve got some advice for me?

Facillier: of a sort, yes

Uma (chuckling slightly): alright then

(In the arena)

Evie (rolling her eyes): out with it

(In the library)

Ben (sighing wearily): what’ve you go to say?

(This is when “all I know so far” happens. After the song)

Hades: I mean that. I’m here. No matter what happens. I’m here.

Mal: yeah but. You can’t always be. And I’m fine with that. Really I am. So don’t go making promises not even a God would be able to keep. Mmkay?

Hades: okay.

Mal: now if you’ll excuse me popsy. I have to go punch some sense into my sister

(She leaves)

Hades: try not to kill her please

Mal: no promises

Hades: understood

(Near the communal sitting room Mal gets surprises by the smee twins fixing themselves to her legs)

Mal: hey guys. What’s all this for?

Gil: they want to thank you

Mal: is he here?

Gil: he got in 20 minutes ago

Mal: let’s go see him then

(In the kitchens)

Mal: Mr Smee

Smee (getting up to bow): your highness

Mal: I’m not a highness yet. Even after that. Mal’ll do

Smee: okay then. You can call me William

Mal: sounds like a plan William. Uma’ll be happy to see you.

Smee: I’ll be happy to see her too.

Mal: now I have small favour to ask you

Smee: anything

Mal: could you please pry these two off my legs. The sentiment’s appreciated. But it is a little hard to walk like this

Smee: of course. Boys. I think Mal would like her legs back now don’t you?

(Squeaky and Squirmy reluctantly let go of Mal’s legs)

Mal: so um. I don’t know if you’re aware

Smee: I’ll be fighting. I’ve lived in fear of James for far too long. I need to help put a stop to him.

Mal: well okay then. Say. Boys. Wanna go on a little trip? You do? C’mon then.

(On their way out. Mal summons two drumsticks and bangs on the doors of the suites)

Mal: Vks! Vks! Come one out and fall in! That includes you Quinn so don’t even try hiding!

Celia: what’s happening?

Dizzy: did Ben finally get rid of the tapioca station?

Mal:....he’s working on it.

Dizzy: oh for fucks sake.

(Once on the Green)

Mal: now. Some of you are being evacuated tomorrow

Dizzy: removed against my will

Evie: it’s for your own good Dizzy

Dizzy (indignantly): I can cause more damage with one half of my scissors than she can do with her attitude

Quinn: harsh.

Dizzy: I know. That’s why I said it

Mal (louder): anyway. I thought we could all do one last thing together as a sort of goodbye thing. Does that sound good?

(The Smee twins cheer in a agreement)

Persey: you gonna use the spell?

Mal: eh. Sort of. Now let’s see uh. Uma. Gil You two stand next to Carlos. Jay next to me. Evie next to Jay. Carlos next to Evie. There you go. Now. Everyone one ready?

(The younger children cheer)

Mal: good answer. Now lemme think. Ooh. I know. This may well be/our very last chance/so now we must all/get up and dance.

(This is when “revolting children” happens. After the song. Mal and Persey see two large streams of steam, one grey and one purple, falling from the sky and landing miles away in the north)

Mal: oh no

Persey: that’s not good

Mal: right. Change of plans. Hadie. Persey. Gather every kid in Auradon and take them to their assigned limps now!

Dizzy: WHAT?!?!

Mal: Dizzy. I know. I know it sucks. I know it’s too soon. But you and everyone who’s too young or doesn’t want to fight has leave now. Please. I need you to trust me on this. Do you trust me?

Celia: I trust you

Dizzy:....okay. Fine. I trust you

Mal: thank you. Now get in the limo, your luggage is already in Arendelle and look after the smee twins

Dizzy and Celia: got it.

(As they take the twins away)

Evie: are you gonna tell us what the hell is happening

Mal: it’s been three weeks.

Persey: now we’ve got three days

Evie: you’re shitting me

Mal: no. No I’m not. Uma. With me. We need to talk to Ben.

Anthony: I’m coming with you. There’s something I need to tell him

Carlos: so no one’s gonna tell us what just happened?

Persey: those two streams came from Olympus’s direction. And if God’s are starting to fall

Carlos: it’s bad

Persey: yup

Gil: but what could make a god fall from Olympus?

(Half an hour earlier. On Olympus. Zeus walks into the throne room to find Maleficent on his throne covered in blood)

Zeus: what poor soul did you consume this time?

Maleficent: Matthew Sykes. A sweet child. Only eight years old. Very snide. A son any parent would be proud of. But he failed. And I have no use for failures. Besides. I was hungry.

Zeus: right then. And you’re here because?

Maleficent: long ago you and king Adam LeRoi of Auradon made a contract. You brother and one of his children for your peoples safety from persecution.

Zeus: and what is it to you?

Maleficent: today he signed the contract over to my name. And I have come to collect.

Zeus: what?

Maleficent: I have come to claim you for the war effort.

(The king of the Gods bursts out laughing)

Zeus: pull the other one

Maleficent: oh you think this is a game? Oh my dear, dear man. I am afraid you are not understanding me. You see. You are mine. Adam signed you over to me. And you do not get a choice in the matter

Zeus: my answer remains the same.

Maleficent: so much for the easy way. Now let me remember....oh yes

(She clears her throat and her eyes glow purple. This is when “never enough” happens. After the song. Zeus looks at her in mild confusion)

Zeus: was that it?

Maleficent: yes

Zeus: well it didn’t work.

Maleficent: oh well. Back to basics.

(She shoves her hand into his chest and violently yanks out his heart)

Maleficent: there we go. Now. Let me make this. Quite plain.

(This is when “I’m number one” happens. After the song. Maleficent lands gracefully in a dusty rock face. Zeus, however, has been impaled through the abdomen, on a pointy rock mass)

Maleficent: oohoohoo. What delicious irony this is. A rock once saved your life. And now a rock has brought about your downfall. Funny how things work out is it not?

(Zeus tries to say something but he ends up vomiting blood instead)

Maleficent: shh. Shh. Try not to speak. It will make the process quicker. And you would not want that now would you? Now. Just let me take what I need from you and I shall be on my way.

(She conjures up a phial, fills it with Zeus’s golden blood and teleports away, leaving the fallen god impaled on the rock and slowly dying. Back in Ursula’s restaurant. Adam’s and Ursula are waiting for her)

Ursula: well?

Adam: did you get it?

Maleficent: indeed I did. But you know me. I love to play with my food. Has the princess softened?

Adam: infuriatingly, no

Maleficent (stroking Adam’s left cheek, which he leans into): never fear your majesty. I have one last recourse.

(She snaps her fingers and the room is engulfed in darkness with only Maleficent and Audrey inhabiting it)

Audrey: what. What’s happening?

Maleficent: it is alright your highness. You needn’t worry. You are among friends here

Audrey: blow it out your ass

Maleficent: do you know how I became who I am today

Audrey: you were hatched like it?

Maleficent: oh you are funny. You are a funny, funny girl. No. I am, or was, Persian. I wished to rule my people, the country I loved. They refused me. So. I slaughtered them. I made my way to France. And I have not looked back since.

Audrey: what’s the point in this little anecdote?

Maleficent: I loved my people. And they cast me out. The same has happened to you. Except you cling to it like a rat aboard the titanic. That is what I’m trying to disavow you of. Love.

(This is when “don’t fall in love” happens. After the song. Audrey looks witheringly at Maleficent)

Audrey: do you think I’m an idiot?

Maleficent: for the purpose of this conversation, allow me to answer, No

Audrey: it’s not love. It’s guilt. For some reason Ben and Mal feel guilty for me letting you out last year. But the only guilty one is me. Uma tried to kill me last month. And she was right to. What you’re doing. It’s my fault. It has nothing to do with love. They don’t love me as a friend or a family member. They feel guilty. But I’m the one who’s actually guilty. So if you want to kill me then kill me. But just know that in doing so you’ll be doing your daughter the biggest favour ever

(Maleficent’s speechless. She returns the restaurant to normal. Then drags Ursula into the office)

Maleficent: I have been shaken to my core

Ursula: you didn’t get stabbed again did you?

(Maleficent glares at her)

Ursula: ‘pologies

Maleficent: she used my tactics back on me. It was honestly really very rude.

Ursula: my niece tried to strangle me after I polyp’d my brother

Maleficent: yes but this is different. This is about me.

Ursula: understood. Carry on

Maleficent: these children. They have no respect for the old ways. If it was now how it was back then she would’ve ran and hid at be mere mention of my name. But now. She will not break. It is honestly rather infuriating

(This is when “class” happens. After the song. They leave the office to see Adam arguing with Audrey)

Adam: he would have in time

Audrey: he dreamed about her you stupid prick. There was nothing to be done

Adam: he ruined everything by letting that murder of crows into my beloved project. And you were on my side. You should’ve done something

Audrey: look at his mother. It was as inevitable

Adam: I fixed her. I fixed her

Audrey: you corrupted her. And now she’s better

Adam: oh I can’t do this anymore.

Maleficent: what the hell is going on?

Adam: oh nothing. Just having a chat with my daughter in law

Audrey: it was never gonna happen. Even if Mal was never in the picture. Once he was king he wouldn’t have to listen to you anymore. He would’ve dumped me and got with Lonnie or Jane. And he would’ve been right to.

Adam: a king does what’s right by his subjects

Audrey: and he is. By undoing every single piece of damage you caused.

Adam: I can’t do this anymore. I just. I just can’t. I never should’ve given Ben the crown

(This is when “viva la vida” happens. After the song Adam glowers at Audrey)

Adam: enough stalling. It’s time to end this

(He strides towards Audrey, tears out her heart, making her keel over in pain. He then kneels and hands it to Maleficent)

Adam: for you my lady

(Maleficent takes the offering. Then places her hand under Adam’s chin and guides him back to his feet)

Maleficent (gently stroking Adam’s face): thank you. My king.

(Adam glows green briefly before faint dead away)

Maleficent: now. This is one last warning to those of you who wish to not participate in the upcoming battle. If you back out now. I shall not think any less of you than I already do. But if you fight then flee. No power on earth, Olympus or the underworld will shield you from my wrath. Is that understood?

The rest of the villains: understood

Maleficent: good

(This is when “are you in or out?” happens. After the song. Audrey struggles to her feet)

Audrey: so what now? You gonna kill me?

Maleficent: what good would that do? You are still of use to me. Seize her. Take the table

Audrey: what. What for?

Maleficent: I have your heart. I. Control you now. So now you have no other option except to do whatever I say

Audrey: go to hell.

Maleficent: only in your body my dear. Only in your body

(As Jafar and Hook are strapping Audrey down)

Ursula: how’d ya wanna do this?

Maleficent: it is not a simple spell. I shall require your assistance.

Ursula: my pleasure

(This is when “poor unfortunate souls/I put a spell on you” happens. After the song. Audrey’s eyes snap open. They’re completely and fully pitch black. That night. Back in Auradon. Persey’s outside the Kawena Club. Gil, Freddie and Diego are with them)

Gil: why exactly are we here again?

Persey: we’re all family here. And I haven’t spent a lot of time with you guys.

Gil: no seriously. Why did you bring us here boss?

Persey: can’t a deity just spend some time with their family without being questioned.

Gil: okay. Um. Fred. D. Why don’t you guys head over to Dalmatians Donuts. I don’t think the Dearly’s have evacuated yet. I just need to talk with our mutual relative.

(He walks over to Persey who’s currently trying to force open the locked and barred door)

Gil: spill. C’mon. Out with it

Persey: oh I’m not done. I can’t be done yet

Gil: done? What do you mean by done?

Persey: I made a promise to my mother.

Gil: okay....What promise?

Persey: last month. She made me promise. That when the time came. I would bring dad and Hadie to Olympus. And we’d make dad king of the gods

Gil: and you think that since we just saw a god fall to earth. That that is today.

Persey: or pretty Damn close to it yeah.

Gil: Freddie. Diego. Get back over here. I think Perse needs some coverage. Do you what you need to do.

(Persey uses magic and busts open the door)

Persey: the three of you. Get in now.

(This is when “blow” happens. After the song. The next morning. At the docks. Persey approaches their father)

Persey: we need to talk.

Hades: just need to do these last minute checks

Persey: no dad. Now.

Hades: okay.

Persey: first of all. Where’s Hadie?

Hades: making sure all the evacuation points are in order. What’s this all about? What’s happening? You can tell me

Persey: no. Not. Not until Hadie gets here. Can you summon him?

Hades: no. Not until you tell me what’s gotten you so fucking jumpy.

Persey: no. I can’t go over it twice.

Hades: okay....

Persey: Urgh....

(This is when “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for” happens)

I have two cats. Sunny and Jaci. They are twins when my mom adopted them from our local cat shelter she was volunteering at after my cat (Cookie) past away. Sunny is a male short haired orange hyper mess. He is ready to run towards anything that seems dangerous, but he is also super intelligent. He comes when I call his name, and he is pure muscle. Jaci is a female long haired mixture of grey tones ball of anxiety. She would rather lay down and nap than run around, and honestly she is a tad stupid (I say this with love because she is my favorite). She is super small, half of what you see of her is just fur.

tigerlily— do you have any favorite quotes from any movies, tv shows, books, or poetry? (or from people in real life)

It is a super short quote, but is something that I have always loved because of the whole entire story. "Hey Mr. Arnstein, here I am" - Barbra Streisand (Funny Girl) For me, I always looked up to this song because if she had just stayed with the group (the safe option) she would have never lived the life she wanted. She put herself out there and went for something that could have blown up in her face - yet she made the decision with knowing that. That is why I love it so much.

OMFG! Well, let's go on the list. Thin Smart (I am a nerd, and I adore listening to Tedtalks and podcasts....give me someone who can talk for hours on a topic they are passionate about? Name your top 10 fav character from 10 different fandoms.

Thanks for the tag, @subdee and @hxhhasmysoul !

Well, since i was tagged twice, i can write about 20 i guess?

But to choose a favourite character is extremely difficult for me - most likely i love several characters equally...

Ofc my obsession with Gon is obvious but mostly because i can see a lot of myself in this character, especially when i remember my awful acts i still regret about.

So i write about my favourite characters dynamics instead!

And since for now I'm obsessed with HxH fandom (funny thing one of the russian translated versions is XxX), i will reffer to it a lot!

So here the ch 2:

11) Hiccup - Toothless (How to Train your dragon) dynamic

The most adorable thing in their relationship is that they accept each other's personalities just how are they are.

Hiccup felt himself not belonging to his world, Toothless is the last of his kind. They helped to each other to be themselves and that was the thing that helped them to start belonging to the world.

12) Deidara - Tobi (Naruto) dynamic

Deidara is probably my favourite character from "Naruto" and the way Tobi acts while being his comrade leds me to the thoughts that Tobi actually is that part of Obito that wasn't affected by all those terrible things that happened to him and turned him into Madara's minion. Tobi is a "real Obito".

13) Ahsoka - Anakin ("Star Wars: the Clone Wars" and "Star Wars: the Rebels") dynamic

There're no favourite characters in CW (except Kenobi, he's way better here than Kenobi in the actual movies) but these two's dynamic is the best for me here.

They're not just master and apprentice, they are brother and sister, they are best friends here. For me Ahsoka and Gon are really similar (to be more specific, 14 years old Ahsoka and Gon, they act and behave similar way, so i guess older Gon will be much more calm and gentle just like 16, 18 and 30 years old Ahsoka).

And of course the moment Ahsoka and Darth Vader met in the "Rebels" is one of the most painfull for fans.

*I hope our favourite boys won't reunite like this lol*

14) Kappa - Siren (Castle Swimmer) dynamic

They're just my favourite gay fishie dorks who wants to start living for themselves at last. They deserve happiness.

15) Milo Thatch - Kida Gagash (Atlantis: the lost empire) dynamic

This is one of the rarest moments when i do ship characters. These two are just perfect for each other, they could feel for each other from the very beginning.

16) Harry Potter - Draco Malfoy (all HP books and movies) dynamic

I was hoping till the very end that they would be friends one day :"((((((

17) Jim Hawkins - John Silver (Treasure Planet) dynamic

That's obvious, they're like father and son to each other.

18) Chiro - Antauri (Super Robot Monkey Team Hyper Force Go!) dynamic

I WAIT FOR HIATUS TO END AS MUCH AS FOR HXH DAMMIT

Well, another father&son relationship. The whole monkey team become Chiro's family, not only his mentors. (Especially when creator confirms that Chiro's parents are actually alive, so it seems that they abandoned him just like Gon's parents????)

19) Saitama - Speed o' Sound Sonic (One Punch Man) dynamic

Damn, i look forward for each their meeting in manga.

20) Jack - Aku (Samurai Jack) dynamic

That's the whole story plot actually. So if you don't like their dynamic - you don't like the story.

Loki (Thor, The Avengers, general MCU)

I mean...obviously, right? He’s got it all. A sympathetic villain with a tragic backstory, a snarky, sarcastic sense of humor, The Smart One, but also, complete and utter trash fire, emotional wreck; just wants to be loved. His redemption arc hits me right in the feels and I’m here for the disaster of a relationship that he has with his big brother. His angst and dramatics make him an utter joy to watch and write about. V pretty, too; makes me wonder if I am in fact just a little bisexual.

King Candy (Wreck-It Ralph)

YMMV but another villain with a sympathetic backstory. The way he turns on a dime from goofy and fun to kind of straight-up murderous is great. Another one where there’s a rich trove of angst and pain to explore in fic. Alan Tudyk’s spot-on Ed Wynn imitation made me fall in love with this guy before three words had left his mouth the first time I saw Wreck-It Ralph.

Stephen Strange (Doctor Strange, general MCU, yes I’m cheating because this is 2 MCU characters)

Okay, so my soft spot for Strange admittedly came about because I ship him with Loki, but I’ve come to love him in his own right. He’s a smartass and a jerk—plus magic! How can I not like a guy who has all the terrible qualities I love in a character, but who dies over and over and over again to save humanity? And in a weird twist, I vastly prefer Benedict Cumberbatch’s American accent to his actual English accent.

George Weasley (Harry Potter)

Though I came to be a huge Snape fan later, my first loves in Harry Potter were the Weasley twins. And George is the one I keep coming back to. Who doesn’t love the Weasley twins, right? But I appreciate kinder, gentler George, and imagining his life after Fred’s death has resulted in thousands and thousands of words of fanfiction.

Weyoun (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)

We stan one Vorta clone who presided over a genocide, got his neck snapped by Worf, eats pizza with chopsticks, and had to put up with both Dukat and Damar. Another villain for the list here. Weyoun (and the Vorta in general) are fascinating and it’s a crime that we never got to learn that much about them. The DS9 writers seemed to think we all wanted to know more about the Jem’Hadar, but I just wanted more of these weird, purple-eyed gremlins. Weyoun trying to appreciate art despite his lack of aesthetics? A+ moment from a guest star in a series that was full of them (both A+ moments and guest stars).

Megavolt (Darkwing Duck)

Ah Megavolt, the character that I’ve loved since 1991. He’s crazy! He’s definitely committed murder (he’s been sent to the electric chair multiple times)! And yet there’s something kind of sad about Megavolt; high school bullies turned into who he is, his memory problems are...a hindrance. He’s not all bad either—he has a friend group and sometimes he even works with Darkwing Duck.

Vinny Santorini (Atlantis: The Lost Empire)

(with bonus Audrey Ramirez, because I’m not going to lie to you, it was hard to choose between the two of them)

Vinny is the snarkiest on this team of looters and he blows stuff up, so how can I not love him? Atlantis does its best to give us character development for its ensemble cast but it can only give us the broad strokes (its runtime is only 96 minutes. 96 minutes!), but it’s hard not to see Vinny as someone who uses sarcasm and humor to cover up a pretty big heart. In a way, a character with a minor redemptive arc, since the team betrays Milo.

Benjamin Linus (Lost)

The first thing you need to know about Ben is that he spent the majority of Lost looking beat up, which is a really attractive quality in a character. Ben is another one of those villains with a sympathetic past and a redemption arc—though unlike many of the villains I love, he actually survived! So he’s an exception to redemption=death. I loved Ben, I think, from the moment he hypothetically detailed how, if he were an evil Other, he would have tricked Sayid, Ana Lucia, and Charlie and lured them to their deaths, and then looked up at Locke and asked with that dead-eyed stare over his cereal, “Got any milk?” He was the one character who continued to get interesting on Lost as the rest of the show was falling apart.

Telemain (The Enchanted Forest Chronicles)

So I couldn’t find a photo of the back cover of Calling on Dragons, which actually features an illustration of Telemain, so you’ll all have to trust me that he’s My Type. His description from the Enchanted Forest Chronicles wiki:

Blue eyes, dark hair, and neatly trimmed beard and mustache

Plus he wears knee-high black boots and a giant, useless belt with a bunch of stuff hanging off it? Might I point you to another wizard on my favorite characters list. Telemain is a know-it-all wizard who doesn’t understand how to talk to others like a normal person. He’s very smart, fiercely solitary, and very snarky. Hm.

Éowyn (The Lord of the Rings)

How can you not love her? The absolute shit this woman has been through. Her parents are dead. Her brother is banished. Her cousin is killed. And her uncle looks like a ghoul and is going crazier by the day, all while she’s got freaking Grima Wormtongue undressing her with his eyes at every opportunity. I love Éowyn because she’s basically in the process of having a constant meltdown but dammit, she’s going to keep it together because what else can she do? And I mean, obviously, “I am no man.”

When I asked my sister to guess where my inspiration came from she thought Harry Potter. She was wrong. Jimmy and Milo are why I want round rimmed glasses. But my question to her made me realize that A LOT of people will think of Harry Potter when they see my glasses, they’ll be shocked when I tell them it’s actually NOT because of Harry Potter.

I love Atlantis and its lore.

In It was easy, Uma uses a ketak to mobilize in Auradon.

The funny story is that among all the options Uma could have, she always wanted one in the shape of a shark. Kida and Milo believed it was because Milo uses an aktirak (it's like a ketak but faster) in the shape of a hammerhead shark. But that's not why.

Uma just knew she was connected to sharks. And she chose a tiger shark because they always looked like sea pups to her, with their big eyes, soft noses, and a taste for playfully biting their mates.

Yes, it could be because of her genetic. Morgana has a shark as a minion, right?

But it is something deeper and connected to her core. Something that eventually Uma came to understand as she got to know Harry and his terrible habit of playfully biting.

Also, Huma is always endgame! It is destiny.

We also have to admit that the idea of Uma using a vehicle from Atlantis is insanely cool.

top ten favourite movies!

tagged by @raven-reyes-reads , and i am a film student so,,, ten movies gosh okay. i dont know what order they’re going to be in, but i do know that the first four are the top four.

1. Scott Pilgrim vs The World

okay so i literally love this movie, so, so much. when i read the plotline of it i thought it was gonna be terrible and cliche and argh. then i saw ramona flowers and it all made sense. i too would fight seven evil exes to date ramona. this film is cinematically beautiful and i never, ever get tired of watching it. also ramona flowers is a hottie with a hammer i want one.

2. Armageddon

if you dont cry when harry pushes ben’s character into the ship and says “ive always thought of you as a son”, then you have no heart and unfollow me. this movies always makes me bawl like a little bitch and i love it so so much. i know its astronomical inaccuracies should make me resent it but i dont. i dont think it’s possible for me to hate any part about this movie. also the characters are so fucking funny and it’s hilarious.

3. Safety Not Guaranteed

this movie is so beautiful and gives me a sense of wonder and hope and when i first watched it, i couldn’t believe that i had been blessed with something so beautiful. after i finish this i’m gonna watch it again. i cried so hard in this movie and most of them were happy tears. it had heartache and joy and pain and smile but the movie does such a good job and explaining why people would go back in time and change somethings and even if they should go back in time

4. The Godfather

countless times ive watched this movie and not only felt better about myself as a human being but had much more respect for the government and how hard it must be to make decisions sometimes. pretty much everyone in my family got so bored in this movie but i fucking love it to shreds, except the last one. i pretend that one didnt happen.

5. Sense8: Amor Vincit Omnia

sue me, this episode went for two hours and thirty one minutes (2hrs, 31mins) it can technically be a movie. i love sense8. like, so much. amanita caplan is everything i aspire to be and to receive. her ride or die relationship with nomi gives me so much hope for my future and their wedding had me bawling like a little baby. sense8 was so important to so many people and it made people so happy to see an inclusive and diverse cast literally from around the world. it was canceled for future seasons of thirteen reasons why which angers me to my very core. sense8 is a visual masterpiece and i could go on about this show forever. amanita caplan.

6. Love, Simon

again, i bawled my eyes out like a little bitch so many times while watching this movie. i did a whole review on it and despite simon’s friends making his coming out all about them, i whole heartedly loved everything this movie is, was, ever will be and hope and pray that it paves the way for so many more LGBTQ rom-com films. also abby is beautiful. also the soundtrack is literally so amazing and appealing to the young adult audience.

7. Breakfast At Tiffany’s

if you’ve ever met me you know that i fucking love audrey hepburn. this was the movie that made me fall in love with her and everything that she is. she’s fucking stunning and an amazing actress and she makes me so happy. this movie helps me get in touch with my “play hard to get” side which somehow always seems to work for any of audrey hepburn’s characters

8. Lemonade Mouth

baby kiyoko. need i say more? also the soundtrack is fucking dope i wish they were a real band.

9. Christopher Robin

I DO NOT NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE TO KNOW THAT IT WILL OVERTAKE ONE OF MY FAVOURITE FOUR MOVIES. PROBABLY THE GODFATHER. THAT DOESNT MATTER. I CRIED SO MANY TIMES IN THE FUCKING TRAILER AND I HAVE LOVED WINNIE THE POOH EVER SINCE I COULD REMEMBER. THAT MOVIES IS GOING TO BE EVERYTHING I WILL EVER NEED.

10. Atlantis: The Lost Empire

since i was so so young ive always been a sucker for any type of mythology and this movie was my religion between the ages of 5 and 11. i made me believe in impossible things and encouraged my expansion from egyptian mythology to also greek mythology. i think atlantis is real and i hope that milo is somehow involved in it.

We have brought down our 2017 INTP favorites to ten characters! Last year the winner was Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. Milo James Thatch of Disney’s Atlantis: The Lost Empire was the runner-up and has found himself in the final ten this year as well. Sweet Creature (Gil)

Prompt Request by themythaboutlegends: Could I please get 2 and 1 for the writing prompts with Gil and reader. With reader being the child of Kida from Atlantis, Giving them intelligent yet curious personality alongside healing powers.

Prompt Starter: “I like you a lot. I just thought you should know.” & “Can I tell you a secret?”

Gil x Kida & Milo’s Daughter

He was trying his best, you could tell from the side of the field that Gil was trying his hardest to play the game of tourney. He ran absentmindedly down the field, his attention completely focused on Harry across from him with the tourney ball.

You were on the side of the field near Coach, watching each player avidly. Being the medic for the team, you took pride in the survival and medical skills you’d inherited from your parents, Kida and Milo. Your medic bag hung across your shoulder, your hair braided on the side down your shoulder. You watched further as a player from the opposite team shot a puck at Gil who’d entered the kill zone.

Because of Gil’s lack of attention, you watched the puck soar across the sky and smack him square in the head, knocking him to the ground. He lay in the grass for a few moments, eyes closed when the time was held and play was stopped. You rushed out to the field with coach, being met halfway by Harry who moved forward to hit the shooter before being pulled back by Carlos.

“Gil, can you hear me? Wake up,” Coach tried before you pulled him out of the way and popped a smelling salt near his nose. He wakes up instantly, swatting away your hand and your already moving to get him off the field to treat his nasty cut near his eye.

“Don’t touch-,” he yells out but quiets when he spots you being the one to hold him up and get him off the field. When the game starts back up, Harry stares at you for a moment, his teeth sinking into his lip before giving you an approving nod and heading back into the game. You grab the cloth near your waist and damping it in the bucket of water you have at the tent before pressing it stiffly to his bleeding forehead.

“Are you feeling okay Gil,” you ask him, your eyes connecting. He’s got this faraway look in his eyes and at the sound of your voice, he wakes out of his trance and shakes his head.

“Can I tell you a secret?” Gil ignores your question and you aren’t sure if that was because he hadn’t heard you or chose not to. You pull the cloth off his skin and reach into your bag, grabbing an alcohol patch to disinfect the cut.

“Gil, I’m gunna need to give you a few stitches,” you ignore him with a smile, wiping away the remaining blood and noticing how deep the cut is. You push some of his hair out of the way and he half-smiles at you.

“Can I tell you a secret?” he asked again as you pulled out a needle and began to thread it. You stopped for a moment and glanced back at him.

“Sure Gil,” you said, “What do you need to tell me?”

“I like you a lot. I just thought you should know,” he told you with a grin, making you drop the needle on the table he was sitting on. You quickly attempted to pick the needle back up, your cheeks rosy. “You don’t have to say anything, I just wanted to explain why I’m always in a daze around you,” he says sweetly.

You lean forward and press a kiss to his cheek, making his cheeks go as red as yours. He leaned forward, catching your lips in a sweet and gentle kiss. You pulled back.

“I like you too, let me stitch you up and then we can kiss all you want.”
