Canonical Batfamily Birthdays
Here are all the birthdates I know of that are canon somewhere in DC, with a preference for the main comics continuities. I have included exact sources and image references when possible. I am not including character introduction dates, just actual birthdays.
If you find any other sources for Batfamily birthdays, please do share!
A moment of silence for Batfamily characters who don’t have canonical birthdays yet, so far as I know. This includes Damian Wayne, Stephanie Brown, Duke Thomas, and more. :(
Summary
Source images will be further down, but here’s an overview in roughly age order (I’m not sure of Kate vs Selina’s ages) with the dates the birthdays were introduced and used:
Tim Drake: July 19th (from 2003)
Jason Todd: August 16th (from 2004)
Cassandra Cain: January 26th (from 2002)
Helena Bertinelli: February 14th (in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold universe, from 2010)
Helena Wayne: September 7th (from 1984), potentially October 20th or the 22nd of unknown month or maybe October 22 or maybe Feb 28th (all the New 52 on passports from 2011-2012). These could also be New 52 Helena Bertinelli’s birthdays or nobody’s birthdays. who even knows.
Dick Grayson: March 20th (from 1995), October ~24th ish (from 1990), November 11th (from 1976), December 1st (on Earth-16 in animated Young Justice universe, from 2012)
Barbara Gordon: September 23rd (from 1976), sometime in fall (from 1987)
Selina Kyle: March 14th (from 1976)
Kate Kane: January 26th (in Batwoman TV series from 2020), March 21st? (word-of-god by J.H. Williams III from 2012)
Bruce Wayne: October 7th (from 2021), February 19th (from 1970s various to more recently), April ~7th (from the late 1940s)
Jim Gordon: January 5th (from 1976)
Alfred Pennyworth: April 8th (from 1976), August 16th (in the Injustice: Gods Among Us universe, from 2016)
Note: in this post when I say “main comics continuity(s)/universe” I’m referring to anything that’s been a “home” continuity for the comics at some point. For example, pre-Crisis Earth-2, Earth-1/New Earth, and Earth-0/Prime Earth, as opposed to Elseworlds or DCEU earths that are still part of the broader DC multiverse but have never been the primary continuity of the comics.
Below are further details and source panels.
Details and Sources
Tim Drake
Tim has only been given one canon birthday. He turned 16 on July 19th in Robin Vol. 2 #116 (cover date Sep 2003).

Robin Vol. 2 #116 (Sep 2003)
Jason Todd
Jason turned 18 on August 16th in Detective Comics #790 (March 2004). This is his only canon birthday.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Detective Comics #790 (Mar 2004)
In post-Crisis/preboot (1986-2011) continuity, there was a gap of six months between when Jason died and when he was resurrected (Batman Annual 25). Jason died April 27th according to his death certificates in Batman Annual 25 and Batman Files 2011, so he would’ve resurrected near late October.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman Annual 25 (May 2006)
So, it could be that post-resurrection Jason is biologically 6 months younger than he chronologically should be. But honestly, do we even really know what multiverse-breaking resurrection punches and then a Lazarus Pit on top of that do to someone’s body??? Either way it’s just much more simple to just use his chronological age.
Cassandra Cain
Much like Tim and Jason, Cass has only ever been given one birthdate: January 26th from Batgirl Vol. 1 #33. With that birthday, she turned 18 in Batgirl Vol. 1 #37.
Tumblr media
Batgirl Vol. 1 #33 (Dec 2002)
When Jan 26th actually comes, Bruce suggests David Cain could’ve lied about it, but Cass denies that idea and continues to treat the day as her birthday.
Tumblr media
Batgirl Vol. 1 #37 (Apr 2003)
Why it's likely her real birthday: Bruce initially believes Cain must’ve lied because he doesn’t think Cain could’ve known her birthday. However, we later learn Cain had lied about her origins and was actually her biological father. Batgirl v1 #62 and #73 show he was there for her birth and could absolutely know the date.
On top of that, in Batgirl #37 Cass remembers celebrating her birthday with him as a child, so he did seem to actually keep track of it. I honestly don’t see any reason to believe he’d lie (Bruce is just a jealous spoilsport).
Helena Bertinelli + Wayne
I’m combining them here because the New 52 gives me a headache.
Helena Bertinelli celebrated her birthday on February 14th in a spin-off comic from the animated Batman: The Brave and the Bold series. This is obviously not part of regular comics continuity and the characters differ from the usual comics in many ways. And yet, for reasons that will soon be clear, it’s my favorite for actually being about Helena Bertinelli the Huntress and for not being an utter mess.
Tumblr media
Batman: The Brave and the Bold #14 (Apr 2010)
In a character profile at the end of Infinity Inc. #7 (Oct 1984), Helena Wayne’s birthday was September 7th, 1959. Calculating back from October 1984, that would make her 25 at the time.
During the New 52, Helena Bertinelli was initially portrayed as a long-dead (secretly alive but don’t worry about it) mobster’s daughter and replaced by Earth-2’s Helena Wayne who got stranded on Prime Earth. This H. Wayne stole H. Bertinelli’s identity in the form of several forged passports and IDs, which had hints toward birthdates. The question is, can we take any of those birthdates seriously, and if so, which birthdates and for which character? (Cue my headache.)
Skip ahead to Dick if overthinking fake passports sounds boring.
When comparing to a real Italian passport, the date on H. Wayne’s fake Italian passport appears to be a birthdate. Note that the fake name is Carol Bertinelli, not Helena. H. Wayne said her IDs were inspired by H. Bertinelli but clearly she’s taking liberties for the IDs so that’s a point toward these being useless for H. Bertinelli birthdays.
Tumblr media
Huntress Vol. 3 #1 (Dec 2011)
I don’t recognize the month abbreviation as a real abbreviation, but from the visible letter O I’m going to assume it means October. If it is, then the date is 20 October 1985. Sidenote: a 1985 birthdate during 2011 could put her age at about 26, which is actually quite close to how old she could’ve been based on pre-Flashpoint! 1985 has been given as Helena Wayne’s death year before, so it’s an interesting choice of a birth year for her. (Thanks to DC’s sliding timescale, though, birth years don’t actually mean anything in the comics.)
They don’t show her complete US passport, but I can see a “22” in line where the day of the month should be for her birthdate. This already contradicts the previous passport. This one uses Helena Bertinelli’s actual name, though–does that make it more relevant than the Carol one or this all still ridiculous because of the discrepancies?
Tumblr media
Worlds’ Finest Vol. 1 #1 (Jul 2012)
We can try to glean the US passport birth month from the passport number at the bottom. The first two digits (“12” here) indicate the agency that issued the passport. 12 means the Honolulu agency. Right after “USA” is supposed to be the birthdate plus an extra number, in the order of year/month/day with the year being the last two digits of a year. Here we encounter another problem. It says 810228. This would imply her birthdate is 1981/02/28. That’s February 28, 1981. Since the earlier line indicated her birthday fell on a 22nd, this already contradicts itself.
Tumblr media
Interpreting a Machine Readable Zone (MZR) on a Machine Readable Travel Document (MRTD)
However, I’d bet comic writers and artists aren’t always well versed in passport numbers (it’s already a stretch for me to bother checking it…). If they put the extra digit before the birthdate instead after, and the date is formatted month/day/year (the most common format in American English, so probably their first instinct), then we can drop the first 8 and it’s 10/22/8[?] with the last digit unknown. This would put her birthday as October 22, sometime in the 1980s. The 22 matches the earlier line, the October might match the previous passport if that really did say October (but contradicts the 20th), and the 1980s year could be 1985 to match the Italian passport.
At the end of the day I’m personally just going to let Helena Bertinelli be a Valentine’s born baby and call it a day, unless/until she gets a better one in the comics. For Helena Wayne I’d easily pick September 7th.
(My question is: did they give the crossbow vigilante a Valentine’s birthday as a Cupid joke??)
Dick Grayson
Dick has probably had the most birthdays of everyone (unless Bruce has more I don’t know about). All of them have their drawbacks.
In a main comics continuity, his most popular and most recent is “the first day of spring” so probably March 20th. This comes from Robin Annual 4 when his mom says she calls him Robin because he was born on the first day of spring. That presents some problems since there are other explanations given for the origin of “Robin,” including that his mom said he was “always bobbin’ along” (Dark Victory #12, page 17) or the original inspiration of Robin Hood (Detective Comics #38, p3).
Tumblr media
Robin Annual 4 (Jun 1995)
Before that, in Secret Origins Vol. 2 #50 (Aug 1990), Marv Wolfman wrote a version of Dick’s origins where Dick turned 10 a week before his parents died on Halloween. That would make his birthday October ~24th (presuming that “a week” before Halloween literally means 7 days here).
Tumblr media
Secret Origins Vol. 2 #50 (Aug 1990)
The first drawback of the October birthday is that it’s tied to Dick being 10 when his parents die on Halloween. Dick’s age and the date his parents die change a lot depending on the writer (Nightwing Vol. 1 #1 says his parents died June 27th, Dark Victory #8-9 says May, etc.). The second drawback is that few people remember this version of his birthday even exists.
Dick’s birthday is November 11th in Super DC Calendar 1976. Note: Despite being a non-diegetic calendar from almost 50 years ago, this source remains well known and used among comic enthusiasts (including those working at DC). Generally, I would say it should mainly apply just to pre-Crisis continuity, but it is also useful for characters that haven’t gotten updated birthdays ever since (like Roy Harper, Barbara Gordon, or Selina Kyle, for example).
Tumblr media
Super DC Calendar 1976
Sidenote: Since Damian doesn’t have a canon birthday, November 11th is favorite to steal for my own fan canon Damian birthday. Dick has plenty birthdays to share and I think it’s cute. @ DC, give Damian and Steph birthdays, they’ve been birthday-less for decades!
Indeed, DC writer Tim Sheridan and editor Mike Cotton debated whether Dick’s birthday was in March or November. They favored March 20th and wrote a birthday scene in Teen Titans Academy #1 (published March 23rd, 2021). The publishing time near Dick’s birthday was intentional, though the date isn’t mentioned within the comic itself.

The above birthdays were all meant to apply to a main comics continuity at some point. However, Earth-16, better known as the animated Young Justice universe (therefore outside of main comics continuity), says YJ Dick’s birthday is December 1st.
Tumblr media
Young Justice Vol. 2 #20 (Nov 2012)
Unlike Helena Bertinelli, Dick has plenty of comics birthdays to choose from, so personally I’ll only count Dec 1st as being the birthday for YJ animated/Earth-16 Dick Grayson until or unless it’s ever mentioned to apply to main comics continuity.
Barbara Gordon
Super DC Calendar 1976 says Barbara’s birthday is September 23rd.
Tumblr media
Super DC Calendar 1976
Since then, the only time I recall her birthdate hinted at is in Secret Origins #20 when her adoptive mom says her birthday is in the fall. This could support her birthday being September 23rd.
Tumblr media
Secret Origins Vol. 2 #20 (Nov 1987)
Although she has celebrated her birthday on panel since then (the end of Nightwing Vol. 2 #153), she hasn’t been given any other actual birthdate. So I’ll keep September 23rd and call it a day.
Selina Kyle
Super DC Calendar 1976 says Selina’s birthday is March 14th. Once again, although it hasn’t been mentioned within a comic, it’s stuck around in popular consciousness (see: Catwoman actress Zoë Kravitz wishing Selina a happy birthday on March 14th).
Tumblr media
Super DC Calendar 1976
Selina celebrated a birthday on panel in Catwoman (2002) #37 but the date was never mentioned. I don’t know of any other reference to her birthday, but my reading of Selina is thus far more sparse than my reading of the others.
Kate Kane
Kate’s birthday options all come from outside of the comics themselves.
In “An Un-Birthday Present,” season 1 episode 11 of Batwoman, a parallel version of her twin Beth had a driver’s license showing her date of birth as January 26, 1990. She and Kate later celebrated their birthdays on an episode aired Jan 26th, 2020. I don’t keep up with live action DC shows so I unfortunately can’t offer a screenshot (if anyone has one or the timestamp, please let me know!).
(I kinda wonder if somebody looked up Batwoman’s birthday for these episodes, saw Batgirl’s (Cass’s) birthday, and just ran with it. Batwoman and a Batgirl sharing a birthday is just. Ughhh.)
In 2012, one of her comic writers tweeted to choose a random date for her birthday and picked March 21st, which so far as I know has never been used as her birthday in comics.

Bruce Wayne
Bruce’s most popular birthday is February 19th, but his most recent one is October 7th from the digital-only comic Legends of the Dark Knight. I believe that’s the only time October 7th has been referenced, but I’ve heard the animated show The Batman said his birthday was in October (can’t confirm, haven’t watched it recently).
Tumblr media

Still, even associates of DC seem to remember his February 19th birthday better. In February 2023, Warner Bro’s Gotham Knights game did a sale for Bruce’s birthday. I’ve also heard the birthday was used in the Gotham TV show, but again, I don’t watch much live action DC shows.
The February 19th birthday appears to come from the 70s and 80s. It’s his birthday in the Super DC Calendar 1976, and in Batman Family Vol. 1 #11: “Suprise, Suprise!” (May 1977). Bob Rozakis (known as DC’s “Answer Man”) said Feb 19th was Bruce’s birthday in the letter column of Detective Comics #494 (Sep 1980).

Way back in the 40s, his birthday was in April, possibly April 7th. During a birthstone murder mystery, Bruce says his birthstone is a diamond, which is traditionally the April birthstone.
Tumblr media
World’s Finest Comics #33/6 (Mar-Apr 1948): “The 5 Jewels of Doom!”
Star Spangled Comics #91 (Apr 1949) might imply the exact date was April 7th but we’d have to assume the party is on his birthday and that “this month” refers to the publishing month of April. I believe this is where people get the April 7th birthday when they bring it up.
Tumblr media
Star Spangled Comics #91 (Apr 1949)
Early April also shines in Batman: Year One where it shows Bruce’s first night out as Batman being either the night of April 6th or the early morning of April 7th (Batman #405). So although the April Bruce birthday hasn’t been used in decades, it’s still a Batman birthday in a way.
I have also heard people say Frank Miller considered Bruce’s birthday to be in November. However, I have yet to find an original source of him saying that, and honestly (just like the “March 21st” birthday for Kate) if he never used it in any canon material I don’t put much weight in that.
Jim Gordon
The only birthday I’ve ever seen for Jim is January 5th from Super DC Calendar 1976.
Tumblr media
Super DC Calendar 1976
Alfred Pennyworth
Alfred’s birthday in Super DC Calendar 1976 is April 8th.
Tumblr media
Super DC Calendar 1976
In the Injustice: Gods Among Us universe (an alternate reality where the video game of the same name is set in), they show Alfred’s birth certificate, where it says his birthday is August 16th, 1943.
Tumblr media
Injustice: Gods Among Us Year Five #26 (Jun 2016)
Maybe you’ll notice that August 16th is Jason’s birthday. A little funny considering the issue features Alfred refusing to share his birthday only for us to learn it’s the same date as Jason’s. Still, annoying. There are so many days in the year! Stop choosing the same ones!
This Alfred birthdate runs into a similar problem Helena’s birthdates did: it’s not part of main comics canon, it’s an alternate universe, so it may not be applicable to the main comics universe.
Note: if we calculate that 1943 birth year from Jun 2016 when the comic was published, that’d make Alfred 72 soon to be 73. Does that mean anything in canon? Probably not, but oh well. Also...token British character born by Windsor Castle? …of course.
Personally, I would rather go with the April 8th birthday than the Injustice one, since Injustice is an alternate universe. Also, outside of the humor of it, the idea of Alfred and Jason sharing a birthday is a bit too much for me. Still, it’s up to people’s own cherry picking.
Chronology
The birthdays in publishing order alongside notable reboots. A soft-reboot refers to reboots that only changed a few details with minor consequences, keeping the overall continuity mostly intact. A major reboot has significant effects on continuity (too many to list).
1935-1986: Pre-Crisis era (Golden Age begins ~1946, Silver Age runs from late 50s--early 70s)
Mar-Apr 1948: Bruce’s birthday is in April
Apr 1949: Bruce has a birthday party on the 7th of “this month”
Skipping a good three decades because I barely even know what’s in there. Sorry lol
Mid 70s to early 90s: Bronze Age era
1976: the super dc calendar says Bruce’s birthday is February 19th, Alfred’s is April 8th, Dick’s is November 11th, Babs is September 23rd, Selina’s is March 14th, Jim’s is Jan 5th
Jun 1977: Bruce celebrates his birthday on February 19th
Sep 1980: letter collumnist says Bruce’s birthday is February 19th
Oct 1984: Helena Wayne’s birthday is on September 7th, 1959
Mar 1986: the major Crisis on Infinite Earths reboot (begins post-Crisis/New Earth era, many previous comics are now considered Earth-2 instead)
Nov 1987: Babs birthday is in fall
Aug 1990: Dick turns 10 a week before Halloween (probably October ~24th)
Sep 1994: Zero Hour soft reboot (Batman and Robin become urban legends so Robin is not allowed on video, Bruce’s parents’ murderer is changed to unknown instead of Joe Chill, Selina is no longer a once-prostitute)
Apr 1995: Dick’s birthday is the first day of spring (probably March 20th)
Oct 2002: Cass learns her birthday is January 26th
April 2003: Cass turns 18 on January 26th
Sep 2003: Tim turns 16 on July 19th
Mar 2004: Jason turns 18 on August 16th
Jun 2006: Infinite Crisis soft reboot (Joe Chill is restored as the arrested Wayne family murderer, Superboy-Prime's punch retroactively resurrects Jason)
Apr 2010: In the Batman: Brave and the Bold universe, Helena Bertinelli celebrates her birthday February 14th
Oct 2011: the major Flashpoint reboot (end of post-Crisis/preboot, begins the New 52 and changes the primary universe to Prime Earth; significant character/timeline changes and erasures)
Dec 2011: Helena Wayne’s fake Carol Bertinelli passport seems to list October 20th as a birthdate
Jul 2012: Helena Wayne’s fake Helena Bertinelli passport lists some 22nd unknown month, Oct 22nd, or Feb 28th birthday
Sep 2012: Batwoman writer J.H. Williams III randomly picks Kate’s birthday as March 21st on Twitter
Nov 2012: Earth-16/YJ animated Dick Grayson celebrates his birthday on December 1st
Jun 2016: In the Injustice: Gods Among Us universe, Alfred’s birth certificate says his birthday is August 16th
Jul 2016: Rebirth reboot (restores some pre-Flashpoint continuity, some characters regain previous histories but now semi-synchronized with the New 52 era)
Jan 2020: Batwoman TV show Kate celebrates her birthday on January 26th
Mar 2021: Writer Tim Sheridan says he & his editor chose March 20th as Dick’s birthday, between the March or November birthdays
May 2021: Infinite Frontier holds all previous continuities as potential canon, restoring more of pre-Flashpoint
Jun 2021: Bruce says his birthday is October 7th in a digital-only comic
Feb 2023: Gotham Knights game has a sale for Bruce’s birthday

August 10th, 1976
Remus forgave Sirius over the summer. She wasn’t sure of the specifics, nor did she pry, but the four boys had apparently spent time together at Potter Manor and fought it out. James had invited her to visit, a few times actually, to which she politely declined each and every letter. She just couldn’t see Sirius. Though the incident had been months prior, the rage was still there, waiting just under the surface for her to break. She didn’t ask Remus why he had decided to speak to Sirius again, frankly she didn’t care, his reasons were his own. He had tried to explain parts of Sirius’ alleged reasoning behind the betrayal, calling it a “prank gone wrong”, but she shut him down quickly. There was no excuse for what he did, and the attempt to blame it on Sirius’ lingering trauma was a slap in the face after all of the time she had spent consoling and helping him heal from his family. The progress she thought they had made was for nothing. He had proven his parents right, he was truly the heir to the noble House of Black.
The summer was relaxing otherwise, and she was able to spend a lot of time with her parents, much to their elation. The three of them went on weekly excursions to museums and parks, soaking up culture and experiencing all that the muggle world had to offer. She hadn’t realized how much she’d missed it. In early August, they took a trip to the British Museum to see a new opening of a show on Impressionism. As her mother stood entranced by the pastel hued works, she snuck off to wander the halls. On one of the upper floors, there was a nearly deserted gallery dedicated to prints and drawings, and she almost sighed with relief at finally being away from crowds of people.
Posting up on one of the slatted wooden benches, she pulled out her sketchbook and began to draw. When she finished a delicate rendition of a Circe print that had caught her eye, she tapped the book covertly with her wand, showing it to Remus. A few short moments later he replied in his normal scratchy handwriting.
She reminds me of you.
She bit back a laugh, scribbling a note back to him, How so?
A few moments lingered again.
Powerful sorceress, good with herbs and potions, loves to hang out with animals.
I’m a witch, not a sorceress, Remus.
She could practically hear his laughter through the paper, You’re splitting hairs, love.
He followed the message with a crudely drawn doodle of a wolf, a stag, a little rat, and a dog. At least...she assumed that’s what it was.
———
September 1st, 1976
For the first time in her Hogwarts career, she sat with Lily, Mary, and Marlene in their compartment on the way to school. She had spotted the boys on the platform upon arrival, offering a small wave to Remus, Peter, and James. When she had turned to follow Lily onto the train, James yelled for her, voice laden with confusion. He must’ve thought the summer would have tampered her feelings. She looked back to see Remus whispering in his ear, James nodding to her in understanding.
Sirius stood behind them, watching her from afar.
During the feast that night, she ate amongst her fellow Hufflepuffs, the house that she loved and admired, but still did not feel quite at-home in. Across the Great Hall, her friends were laughing, and her heart began to break.
———
September 24th, 1976
Remus was practically on his knees begging. So far, he’d harassed her at breakfast, in the corridor after her first class, and again at lunch. Now he was caging her between his arms against a pillar in the central hall, pleading with her to come to a party in Gryffindor Tower that night.
“Please, please, pleaseeeeee!” He whined, “Please don’t leave me alone with them.”
She sighed, “I said no, Remus.”
“But it’s Peter’s birthday party, he’ll be upset if you’re not there.”
She cut him a look, “He’ll get over it, I promise.”
“Please,” he stooped down to her eye level, “I’m begging you. I’ll owe you for life. Just come with me to the party, you can stay by my side and I won’t even let Sirius near you.”
She almost winced at his name.
“Remus…” She didn’t want to think about Sirius. Didn’t want to breathe the same air as him. Just seeing him in passing was like being stabbed in the gut repeatedly. She wasn’t sure if she could weather it.
Remus’ eyes softened, “I know, I’m sorry. I just…I’ve missed you being around, and I know James and Pete have too. You can’t stay away from us forever, you’re an honorary Marauder.”
A laugh burst out of her mouth, “I’m sorry, a what?”
He smiled, “The Marauders. It’s the name we came up with over the summer at James’. Well, he came up with it, we all just went along when he wouldn’t stop saying it.”
“That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard,” she chuckled again.
Remus laughed too and hugged her, “I know it is, but you’re a part of it too. I need you, the boys need you. Please come tonight.”
She melted into his embrace, savoring the warmth that only seemed to radiate from Remus.
“Fine,” she groaned, earning herself a squeeze and a kiss on the top of her head.
“Brilliant, I’ll see you at 9,” and Remus finally let go and shot her a satisfied wink before he ran off to class.
———
She’d been to so many Gryffindor parties that she couldn’t keep track, and each one had felt like a house party filled with her closest friends, no matter the occasion. Tonight though, she felt like she was walking into the lions den (no pun intended). The rhythm of her heart threatened to drown out the booming sound of The Ramones blaring through the common room. Even though it was Pete’s birthday party, Sirius had clearly commandeered the music selection.
She searched for Remus, finally landing on his shaggy brown hair sitting next to James near the fire. Pushing through bodies, she dropped between her two friends with a dramatic sigh.
“There she is!” James yelled, spilling some sort of amber liquid on the floor. He grabbed her face and kissed her cheek aggressively.
She laughed and shook him off, “Are you pissed?”
James smiled, his eyes starting to become distant, “I’m gettin’ there.”
Remus leaned in to whisper in her ear “This is precisely why I needed you here. I can’t deal with all of them drunk off their asses.”
She let out another laugh as she noticed Lily stalking across the room towards the record player, stopping the needle abruptly.
The loud shout from the other side of the common room could only be one person.
“Oi! Evans! What’re you doing!” Sirius grabbed the record from her hands like a precious jewel.
Lily pulled out another album, flashing him a wicked smile, “I’m trying to liven up this party with some dancing.”
When the needle hit, Abba began to play, leading to a loud shriek from a few girls around the party, including herself and Mary. Lily met her eyes from across the room and held out an inviting hand.
She paused for a minute, knowing that Sirius was within earshot, knowing he would be watching.
Fuck it.
She leapt up and grabbed Lily’s hand, the two of them spinning and moving to Waterloo. Mary and Marlene flanked them, the latter dragging Dorcas along and coercing her to join in. She forgot about the party, forgot about the room entirely, and most importantly, she forgot about Sirius. All she knew was her friends dancing beside her, laughing and smiling. She briefly locked eyes with Peter, standing behind the couch and laughing along to their dancing. Wiggling her fingers in his direction she called to him, “C’mon birthday boy, dance with me!” Pete beamed and spun her around, falling into step easily. He was a particularly good dancer, much to her surprise.
“How’d you get so good at this?” she said over the music. Pete spun her wide, pulling back to have her pressed to his chest as they swayed.
“Perks of growing up with an older sister, I suppose,” he laughed into her ear.
She smiled, the first genuine one she’d had in a while.
“I’m glad you came tonight,” Pete said quietly, “I’ve missed you, it’s been weird not having you around.”
She reached up and scratched his head fondly. Pete leaned down and kissed her cheek, finally giving her one last twirl. As the music faded and the room stopped spinning, her eyes landed on Sirius holed up in a corner of the room, tossing back what she knew wasn’t his first firewhisky. His eyes never left hers as the glass drained down his throat.
When the next song began to play, she sat back beside Remus, out of breath but feeling rejuvenated. James had gotten up and was now talking to Lily, who it seemed had finally begun speaking to him again, a small blush creeping up her freckled face.
Remus put his arm around her, “It’s good to see you smile again.”
She leaned her head on his shoulder, listening as a few 3rd years began to sing along to Sitting In The Palmtree, and relaxed.
———
If James Potter was one thing, he was a man of his word; and that man was good and truly pissed within the first hour of her being at the party. Her and Remus watched him from the window, dancing and singing atop a table to Elton John.
“He’s actually not bad,” Remus mused, fishing a pack of cigarettes from his pocket. He held one out, which she accepted as they both watched James spin around, using a bottle as a microphone.
She hummed as Remus lit both cigarettes, propping open the window to blow smoke out into the cold air.
“So,” He took a drag and side-eyed her, “are you happy you came?”
She flicked at the filter, not wanting to give Remus the satisfaction of being right.
“Yes…” she mumbled, taking another drag and refusing to look at him.
She heard him laugh quietly beside her, leaning over to kiss her head, “I’m glad. I want things to go back to normal.”
She sighed a trail of smoke, the tendrils curling around her face as she stared out into the night. “I’m not sure if it can, Moony. Maybe it can get better, but it can’t be like it was.”
Remus didn’t push her, just stood in companionable silence as they watched the stars. She tossed her cigarette butt out the window, the embers dancing in the breeze.
“It’s fuckin’ freezing,” She rubbed her arms, “Mind if I borrow one of your jumpers?”
Remus took a final pull of his cigarette and nodded, “Go ahead, you know where they are, top drawer.” He motioned towards the boys dorm.
She weaved through the (now mostly drunk) partygoers, grabbing Lily once to twirl her around before heading up the stairs to the boys bedroom. The sound of people at the top of the spiral staircase made her cringe, she didn’t feel like walking through two horny 4th years trying to get off in the solitude of the upper levels. As she turned the corner to the top landing, she came face to face with a pretty blonde entangled with a dark haired boy. The girls’ hands were fumbling with his pants as he moved to kiss up her neck sloppily. Even from across the landing she could tell both of them were completely drunk.
“Can you two have intercourse somewhere else? Maybe somewhere more private?” She called, moving towards the dormitory door.
The boy looked up and she froze. Sirius’s blue eyes shot through her and for a moment, she couldn’t breathe. For what felt like an eternity, he stared at her, and she could have sworn something like longing flickered behind his drunken gaze. As quickly as she saw it, it was gone, replaced by a smug expression that she had seen Regulus wear too many times to count.
“C’mon Em,” he slurred, “Let’s go to my room.”
“You can at least wait until I leave, you know,” she shot at him, surprising even herself.
Sirius turned around slightly as he opened the dormitory door, “What’re you even doing up here?” His voice was cold, and it shook her to the core.
“Remus said I could borrow one of his jumpers,” she muttered, suddenly feeling so small under his scrutiny.
Without another word, Sirius dragged the blonde girl into the dormitory, collapsing onto his bed. The girl climbed on top of him and they resumed the exploration of each other’s mouths.
The last thing she wanted was to be seen as weak, let alone by Sirius fucking Black of all people. She squared her shoulders and strode to Remus’ closet, making a loud show of finding the right drawer containing his jumpers. As she aggressively slammed one of them shut, Sirius moaned loudly. He was playing the game too, it seems.
Ripping a green and brown jumper from the top drawer, she spun around to find him glancing up at her from beneath the girl, eyes challenging as his hands continued to roam her body.
She wouldn’t let him win this.
She tore off her shirt and tossed it onto the floor, standing in the center of the room in just jeans and a bra and stared back at him, face cool and expressionless. She stood there for a beat, watching as Sirius’ mouth went slack, causing his partner to whine against his lips. At the sight of his barely contained shock, his eyes briefly jumping from her face to her chest, she pulled Remus’ jumper over her head and stormed out, slamming the door behind her.
———
October 15th, 1976
Emmeline Vance had a death wish, though she didn’t know it. Apparently the fondling during Peter’s birthday party wasn’t a one time thing, and the blonde was now an almost constant fixture at their table in the Great Hall. The entire situation made everyone uncomfortable, but none of them had the guts to tell Sirius to cut it off. The little Ravenclaw sat in his lap, her favorite seat apparently, and her hands would be on him in some capacity at all times.
The sight of them made her physically ill, so after a week of trying to suck it up and just not look at his side of the table, she decided to sit with the Hufflepuffs, much to Remus and James’ frustration.
She didn’t like Emmeline, it wasn’t like when Sirius had dated Mary a few years ago. Mary was fun, and witty, and could match Sirius on his attitude any day. Emmeline was a parrot, just giggling and repeating everything he said, no real opinion or thoughts on any topic. The worst thing about her though, was that she was mean. Not cruel in the way that Regulus and his group of assholes were, but she was rude and stuck-up, especially to younger years. One morning, a small 1st year had accidentally bumped her with their schoolbag when leaving the Great Hall, and Emmeline had shot them a death glare and spat “Watch where you’re going, idiot.” The first year scuttled off, looking on the verge of tears.
She almost leapt across the table and strangled her. But if that was the type of girl Sirius wanted, then fine.
The rest of the group largely ignored them, not that Emmeline seemed to mind, she only cared about touching Sirius, kissing Sirius, groping Sirius, and licking Sirius (as they all had the pleasure of witnessing early one Wednesday morning; Peter had choked on his tea).
She tried to move on, tried training her heart to not reach for Sirius every time she passed him in the corridors. At times when he would creep into her thoughts, she quickly shut down an impenetrable wall of steel, blocking out the memories of him entirely; the color of his eyes, the sound of his laugh, the feeling of his chest rising and falling as he slept.
Eventually, Sirius became an afterthought, a bookmark in a chapter of her life that she had closed. And slowly, but surely, she moved on.

9th October 1900 saw the birth in Edinburgh of Alastair Sim, the actor best known for his character and comedy roles.
He was the youngest of Alexander and Isabella Sim's four children. His father was a tailor who owned his own shop on Lothian Road, it is still a shop selling running gear nowadays. To use a suitable phrase for his father, I like the jib of the man, Alexander was one of a group of professional people in Edinburgh who noted the plight of wounded Veterans returning from the front who had little or no prospects of suitable accommodation or employment ahead of them. They founded the Scottish Veterans Garden City Association during the 1st World War and, under the chairmanship of Lord Salvesen, paid for the construction of houses for the use of returning servicemen.
Alexander Sim was offered, but refused, a knighthood.
For a time, the family lived above the shop, but as Alastair entered school, the business picked up enough that they were able to move to a house in Craigleith. Young Alistair was educated at Bruntsfield Primary, James Gillespie's High School and George Heriot's School. He worked for his father then another Edinburgh tailor but showed little aptitude and decided to enter Edinburgh University, studying analytical chemistry, but his further education was cut short when he was called up to the army. After the war he returned home and announced to his parents he was going to take up acting, this wnet down like a lead balloon and there was a falling out, Alistair left the family home and spent a year in the Scottish Highlands with a group of jobbing workers.
On returning to Edinburgh Sim took post in the burgh assessor's office. In his spare time, he entered poetry reading classes, winning the gold medal for verse speaking at the Edinburgh Music Festival. This led to him taking a job as a Fulton lecturer in elocution at New College, part of the University of Edinburgh.
Alastair Sim began working as a stage actor in 1930, taking on minor roles. His deep talent was soon discovered, and he was cast as Othello that same year. In 1932, he met and married Naomi Plaskill, his muse and wife for life. The couple had one child, a daughter named Merlith. It wasn't long before Sim moved to films in supporting roles. One of his more memorable characters was that of Detective Sergeant Bingham in the film series Inspector Hornleigh. His on-screen presence was so dominant that he has often been credited with "stealing the scene" from the film's star actors.
Throughout the 1940s, Sim was cast in several lead roles; he starred in the thriller Green for Danger, the comedy The Happiest Days of Your Life and Alfred Hitchcock's Stage Fright, among other major films. One of Sim's better-known portrayals was that of Captain Hook in the production of Peter Pan, a role he reprised six times during his career. In a national cinema poll in 1950, Sim was voted the most popular film actor in Britain.
I think quite a few of us will remember Alastair Sim in a slightly different role to those I have already pointed out, growing up before we had all the TV channels we have now and watching the old black & white films and the classic Belles of St Trinians where he played headmistress Millicent Fritton.
Looking through his other roles, I spotted he played the notorious Dr Knox, not once-but twice. For those who don't know, the doctor of note was a professor of Anatomy at Edinburgh University, he paid Messrs Burke & Hare for fresh cadavers to demonstrate the human anatomy at the University.
I mentioned Alistair's father refusing a knighthood, and it pleases me to tell you he too refused the offer of becoming Sir Alistair Sim in the early 70's.
He died of cancer in August 1976, insisting that his body be used for medical research - and that there should be no memorial service for him. His widow lived until 1999; she published a memoir, Dance and Skylark: Fifty Years with Alastair Sim in 1987. There is a plaque, commemorating Sim's birth, outside the Filmhouse Cinema in Lothian Road, Edinburgh, only a short distance from where he was born above his father's shop.

🆃🅷🅴 1987 🅷🅾🅳🅳🅻🅴 🆂🆃 🅼🅰🆂🆂🅰🅲🆁🅴, 🅸🅽 🅼🅴🅻🅱🅾🆄🆁🅽🅴 🅰🆄🆂🆃🆁🅰🅻🅸🅰
This write up is quite long, and explains in detail the formative events in Julian's life, as well as the events that directly contributed to his actions.
Julian Knight was born March 4th 1968 in Melbourne Australia. When he was 10 days old he was adopted by Pamela Anne Knight and Ralph Knight. Ralph was an Army Captain, his role was as an education officer in the Royal Australian Army Educational Corps. He was a qualified teacher who taught literacy, numeracy, and later on Mandarin to soldiers. Before retiring he would reach the rank of Major.
Between 1968 and 1975 the Knight family moved regularly, spending time in Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Melbourne. In 1975 the family travelled through South East Asia, before returning to Melbourne to settle down for good.
In January 1976, Julian is encouraged by his father to take part in Cub Scouts, and he does so until 1968 when he graduates from Cub Scouts to Scouts, which he continues until 1979.
In February 1980 Julian begins high school, and in March 1980, his parents separate, and the same month Julian's father gives him a Daisy Air Rifle. Then between May and November he works as a paper boy for the local newsagent, where he saves up enough money to purchase a Chinese Air Rifle.
In 1982 his parents finalise their divorce, and his mother moves the family from Hoppers Crossing in Melbourne's outer western suburbs, to Clifton Hill in the inner northern suburbs.
Beginning in June 1982 Julian begins training with the Norwood High School Army Cadet Unit, and in August he attends his first Army Cadets Camp at the Puckapunyal Military Base in Victoria. It is here that he fires an M16 for the first time.
In November 1972 he is involved in a fight at school and is suspended for the rest of the year (the school year in Australia finishes around December 19th). And in February 1983, he starts at a new high school. In March he appears in court for charges stemming from the schoolyard fight, where all the charges are dropped.
In May 1983, Julian attends the Army Cadets NCO (Non Commissioned Officer- Lance Corporal) course in Goonram, Victoria. Then in August he again attends Army Cadets Camp at the Puckapunyal Military Base. Then a week later he attends Army Cadets Adventure Training Award Course also at Puckapunyal. And in December he attends Army Cadets Senior NCO Camp in Bambara, Victoria where he is promoted to the NCO rank of Corporal.
In January 1984 he purchases a Crossman High Powered Air Rifle. And in April he begins training with the Melbourne High School Army Cadets Unit. In May, he gets a part time job at McDonald's in Melbourne CBD. Then in August he attends his third Army Cadets Camp at Puckapunyal Military Base. The following week, he attends his first Army Reserve Training Weekend, also at Puckapunyal.
In January 1985, he begins his final year of high school. In March he attends his second Army Reserve Training Weekend, this time in Sale, Victoria. In July, he applies for entry into the January 1986 intake of the Australian Defence Force Academy in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. In August he attends his fourth Army Cadets Camp, followed a week later, by his third Army Reserve Training Weekend. On August 13th, he attends examination day for entry to the Australian Defence Force Academy, however he fails due to poor school results and is told to re-apply to the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Canberra, for army officer cadet training.
October 1st 1985, Julian applies for enlistment into the Australian Army Reserve, before sitting his high school leaving exams in November. On November 26th he successfully enrols in the Australian Army Reserve as a Reservist Trainee Soldier. From December he trains as an Army Reservist Trooper.
In January 1986, he obtains his high school leavers certificate, with a C grade in 5 subjects. Then from February 1st to 15th he attends the Army Reserve Recruit Course at Puckapunyal. In March, he is accepted into La Trobe University, as an undergraduate studying a Bachelor of Arts degree, and commences studying French, German History, and Politics. However, he drops out in May.
On March 4th Julian turns 18, which is the legal age you can apply for a firearms licence, and the day after his birthday he applies for a Victorian Shooters Licence. He is gifted a German Ruger 10/22 .22 calibre semi automatic rifle, which is a family heirloom, by his uncle.
In April, he attends the Army Reserve Assault Troopers Course at Puckapunyal, and on the day of his return home he is issued with an A, B, and C Category Victorian Shooters Licence. Then from April 26th to 11th of May, he attends the Army Reserve "A" Vehicle Course, in Sale, Victoria.
On May 15th 1986, Julian purchases a Mossberg 12ga 8 shot pump-action shotgun from a Melbourne gun dealer.
On July 30th he applies for January 1987 intake to the Royal Military College Duntroon, and undergoes a series of aptitude tests and interviews.
Then, on July 31st he purchases a M14 7.62mm (.308) calibre semi automatic military rifle from a Melbourne gun dealer.
1st of September, Julian attends examination day for entry into the Royal Military College. He passes the examinations, and advances to the RMC selection board interview process.
October 2nd, he attends the selection board for the Royal Military College, in Watsonia, Melbourne. He passes and is placed on a short list.
October 3rd to 19th he attends Army Reserve Radio Operators Course, in Sale, Victoria, where he is the course's "Student of Merit". And on October 16th he is informed that he has been accepted into the January 1987 intake of the Royal Military College.
In November 1986, he attends the 4th/19th PWLH Regimental Annual Range Shoot Weekend at Puckapunyal. He attains the highest score in the regiment with the L1A1 Self-loading rifle.
On January 12th 1987, Julian begins his training at the Royal Military College Duntroon. During his time at the RMC, he states that he was the victim of continuous bastardisation and victimisation by senior staff cadets, beginning on his first day.
In April, 1987 Julian began dating a 17yo public servant named Meg. The victimisation of Julian, then escalated, and senior staff cadets would sexually assault Meg in front of him, on multiple occasions while socialising at civilian venues. The same cadets also assaulted another civilian female friend of Julian's named Liz.
By May, the victimisation and bastardisation had reached a zenith, where he would be given orders that were literally impossible to follow. For example, on a day in mid May, he was ordered to prepare tea, coffee, and toast for a group of senior cadets. The was initially ordered to prepare their orders while on the floor, having to crawl underneath chairs and tables, and then after 5 minutes the instructions changed and he was now to prepare their orders without touching the floor, being forced to jump between tables. They senior cadets then began to scream at Knight to hurry up, and when he was almost finished preparing their orders, they would change what they wanted forcing him to start over. When he hadn't finished their orders in 10 minutes, he was given a piece of toast slathered with butter, honey, and peanut butter, and ordered to force the entire piece into his mouth unbroken and to eat it. The senior cadets, then proceeded to throw the pieces of toast with butter and honey or peanut butter, up to the ceiling, in order to leave residue on the ceiling, which they then made Julian clean up. This is just a snapshot of the abuse he experienced while at RMC.
Between 26th and 29th of May, there was a field exercise, FEX. Samichon, where Julian was singled out for harsh criticism for making simple mistakes, that other cadets also made. At the end of the exercise, he received the lowest marks by a substantial amount. This left him feeling defeated. Upon returning to RMC, he had an incident with a senior cadet, and as a result of this, he left the base and drove to Belconnen mall, where he purchased a switchblade knife, with a 4in blade, as he wanted to be able to protect himself.
Over the next 18 hours, he was involved in a series of altercations with senior cadets, one which involved having a bayonet pressed into his chest, another involved a senior cadet pinning him against a wall and threatening to punch him in the face.
He was then informed by one of his senior cadets, that it was highly likely that he would be thrown out of the college, and that a better idea would be to resign before that happened. After receiving this news, he decided to desert his assigned duty that night, and instead attend the 18th birthday celebration of his civilian friend Deanne. He decided against wearing his uniform, instead dressing in casual clothes, and he placed his new switchblade in his pocket.
The celebrations began at the Ainslie Hotel, where they stayed until roughly 10.30pm, at which point they travelled to the Private Bin nightclub, which is the same nightclub that the senior cadets frequented. He had decided to resign on Monday, so he thought that he would just ignore anything that the senior cadets said or did. His group made sure to position themselves on the opposite side of the club from the senior cadets, however Staff Cadet Reed, repeatedly approaches Julian, and attempts to force him to return to base, but Julian refuses. This angers Reed who repeatedly places his hands on Julian, before security makes him back off. After Reed does this multiple times, at approximately 1.30am a scuffle breaks out between a group of 5 people, including Julian, Reed, Lance Corporal Thorp, an unnamed cadet, and a civilian who stood up for Julian.
Julian's group leaves the bar, and members of the group help calm him down. He is bleeding from the nose and eyebrow, after receiving multiple punches to the face. His girlfriend then says that she is returning to the club. Julian goes to the bus station to wash the blood off, and while there, he positions the knife so he can easily access it. He then joins the group back at the club.
After ordering a drink, another cadet approached him ,warning him that there was now a group of 9 senior cadets and a Drill Sergeant who were planning on assaulting him, with the intent of hospitalising him. This group is standing near the entrance to the main bar, staring and making threatening gestures towards Julian and his group.
Julian then formulates a plan to attack Reed and Thorpe first, as soon as they are in a position where he can quickly use the knife on them both. He watches the group, waiting for the perfect moment, and then at approximately 2.15am Thorpe leaves the bar. He then decides to attack Reed alone.
At roughly 2.55am Julian's group say that they are leaving the club, and going to one of the groups house. As they prepare to leave, he grabs the handle of the knife, and extended the blade. As his group began to head to the exit, Julian says he has to use the bathroom, and leave them together. He then makes his way through the club, and decides that it is time to attack. He approaches Reed from his blind spot, and when he is standing next to him, draws the knife from his pocket and thrusts the knife into the right side of Reed's head. The blade hit bone, and he withdrew it, and stabbed him again, behind the right ear, as Reed was collapsing to the floor.
As everyone looked at Reed in shock, Julian ran to the door, and on to the street.
He realised that he had accidentally cut his finger, so he wrapped it in his handkerchief, and made the decision to try and find a police car and hand himself in.
After running a few blocks he saw 2 members of the Australian Federal Police in a marked police car. He flagged them down and told them what he had done. He was transported to the Royal Canberra Hospital, to have the wound to his finger examined. While there he called the base and without identifying himself stated that "Lance Corporal Reed had been stabbed and Cadet Knight has been arrested". He was then informed that his wound required micro surgery, and that he would have Eto stay in hospital for 2 days. The police questioned him for roughly 90 minutes, before informing him that they were placing him under arrest for Malicious wounding with a knife.
3rd of June the RMC Board of Studies convenes and decides that Staff Cadet Julian Knight should be asked to "Show Cause" as to why his appointment as Staff Cadet should not be terminated, effectively ending his career as an Army officer.
12th of June, Julian appears before the ACT Magistrates Court on charges of malicious wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and assault in relation to the stabbing on May 31st. He is bailed on a $5,000 self-surety to appear again on November 10th 1987. He then returns to Victoria.
On June 19th, Julian resigns from his appointment as a staff cadet at the Royal Military College, and from the Australian Regular Army, in a letter to the Chief of the General Staff. And on July 13th he completes his discharge procedure at Watsonia Army Base.
Back in Victoria, he moved back in with his mother, however she had converted his childhood bedroom into a second living room, so Julian was forced to sleep on the couch in the front room. He was unable to find a decent paying job, so he accepted a menial position as a casual storeman at a clothing firm. However the wages weren't enough to pay back the $6,000 army loan he took to purchase a car, and he also had roughly $1,200 in other debts. He was also feeling isolated, as his Melbourne girlfriend had moved on, and his Canberra girlfriend was in Canberra. So he began drinking copious amounts of alcohol, approximately 5 times as much as he was drinking in Canberra. He also received the information that his biological mother was living in South Africa, and had not responded to a letter that had been sent to her asking if she was willing to have contact with Julian.
On Sunday August 9th 1987, Julian awoke at roughly 11.30am. It was 16 days since his discharge from the army. At 1.30pm he attended a birthday party for his mother, at his grandmother's house. He left the gathering at 4.10pm, and while he was there he consumed 2 cans of beer. He drove his younger sister home, before paying a quick visit to his former girlfriend.
Upon leaving her house, his cars gearbox jammed, leaving the car stuck in 2nd gear. He made his way home, where he parked the car, and changed his outfit. He also drank a third beer, before angrily walking the short distance to his regular hangout, The Royal Hotel, arriving at around 5.30pm. None of his friends were there, so he drank alone for the next 3 hours and 20 minutes. At this stage his severely depressed mood, coupled with extreme intoxication, manifested in a psychotic vision of a soldier being ambushed, which when combined with his intense anger, extreme stress, and agitation caused him to experience what he later described to detectives as a "call to arms".
Five minutes later he was sprinting back to his mother's house.
When he arrived, he spoke briefly with his sister when he encountered her in the hallway. Once she had returned to the back of the house to continue watching TV with their mother, he ventured upstairs to retrieve his weapons that were stored under his mother's bed. He took the Ruger rifle, the M14, and the Mossberg shotgun, taking the Ruger and the Mossberg downstairs to the front room. He then collected the M14, and a steel ammunition case, and a leather shotgun cartridge belt from his mother's cupboard, taking them downstairs to the front room also.
He loaded the weapons, and filled his pockets with roughly 100 rounds of ammunition, including a "suicide" 7.62mm round which he placed in the front right pocket of his jeans. He placed a black combat knife down the back of his jeans, then slung the M14 across his back, and picked up the Mossberg and the Ruger in his right and left hands respectively.
At roughly 9.30pm, he ran out the front door, travelling west down Ramsden St and crossing the nearby train line, Julian reached the eastern side of the four lane major arterial road Hoddle St.
He reached the perfect ambush position, and began indiscriminately firing his weapons into cars travelling down Hoddle St. In a 15 minute period he fired 114 rounds from 3 weapons, killing 7 innocent civilians, and wounded a further 19, including 2 police officers.
After a 30 minute police chase to stop and find the shooter, 19 year old Julian Knight was arrested less than a kilometre away in Fitzroy North. His initial plan of committing suicide failed when he was unable to locate his "suicide" round, while surrounded by police, so instead he dropped his weapons, and handed himself in.
In the months following the shooting, Julian underwent a barrage of testing by a variety of professionals. He was then charged with 7 counts of murder, and 47 counts of attempted murder on June 6th 1988.
In early October 1988, following negotiations with the Department of Public Prosecutions, it was decided that he would plead guilty to all charges, in a plea deal. Julian believes that this deal was made with input from the Australian Army, as the main condition of the deal was that the abuse, victimisation, and bastardisation that he experienced at Duntroon would not be mentioned in court, and in exchange the Crown agreed that they would not oppose the setting of a minimum term to the life sentences he was guaranteed to receive.
On November 10th 1988, Julian appeared in the Supreme Court of Victoria for his sentencing hearing. Justice George Hampel sentenced him to Life Imprisonment for each of the counts of Murder, and 10 Years Imprisonment on each of the counts of Attempted Murder. The total sentence he received was Life Imprisonment with a minimum non parole term of 27 years (in Australia, Life Sentences aren't cumulative, and lesser sentences aren't cumulative on top of a Life Sentence, so people don't end up with crazy two or three hundred year sentences like in America. Also, nearly all people who receive Life Sentences will also receive a minimum non parole term, meaning that they have the opportunity to be released in usually 20-30 years, if they don't fuck up massively). Julian was eligible for parole in 2014, however his application has been denied at each parole hearing he has had.
Julian has his own website, where he talks about everything in depth, including his struggles in prison, which are too nuanced for me to get into. I highly suggest checking it out.

Born in Pasadena, California, on 1 August, 1936, William Bradford Bishop Jr. earned an American studies degree in Yale University before receiving a Master’s Degree in Italian in Middlebury College in Vermont. He married his high school sweetheart, Annette Wels, and the duo went on to have three sons. Bishop joined the army where he became a Foreign Service Officer. He was able to speak four foreign languages fluently.
On the 1st of March, 1976, Bishop discovered that he wasn’t getting the promotion he had been anticipating at the State Department in Washington D.C. He quickly left, claiming he felt ill, and went to a local bank and lifted out several hundred dollars. From there, he went to Sears and purchased a sledgehammer and a gas van which he filled with gas at a service station nearby. He then went to a local hardware store and purchased a shovel and pitchfork. By the time he returned it was 8PM and his children - aged 5, 10 and 14 - were in bed.
Lifting the sledgehammer from his car, he first of all bludgeoned his wife to death. He waited for his mother to return from walking the dog and bashed her across the head with the blunt object. Then he went upstairs and murdered his three sons. Bishop placed the bodies of his family in his car and drove 275 miles to swampland off North Carolina Highway 94. He buried them in a shallow grave and set the bodies alight. Bishop then disappeared.
In 2014, he was placed on the FBI’s most wanted and reported sightings of him have popped up worldwide. Some even believe he remained in California after the brutal murders. Bishop was, and still may be, an avid outdoors-man. He enjoyed camping and hiking as well as canoeing, fishing, swimming, and jogging. He is a licensed amateur pilot who learned to fly while posted in Botswana, Africa. He was described as being 6'1" and weighing 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a six-inch vertical scar on his lower back.
Despite and exhaustive and expansive search, William Bradford Bishop Jr. has never been found,

Others:
Sybil Trelawney was born before 1962.
Every member of the Order of the Phoenix were born before 1964.
Andromeda Black is the middle child and was born between 1951 and 1955. I personally go with 1953 so she is two years younger than Bellatrix  and two years older than Narcissa.
Even though Molly Prewett was born the year before Arthur Weasley, because of the month, she was in his year (just like Hermione, Harry and Ron).
I am not sure when Barty and Evan are born, but according to my research, Regulus and Evan are born in 1961 and Barty is born in 1962 but they are only a few months meaning that they are still in the same year at Hogwarts.
It isn’t really clear when Narcissa and Lucius got married, but according to my research it happened between 1976 and 1979. I personally got with 1978 (two years before Draco is born)
Ted Tonks was born in the 1950s.
Not sure when Ted and Andromeda got married, but I’m assuming it was when she left Hogwarts in 1971. After marrying him, she was disowned and then in 1973 Andromeda gives birth to Nymphadora.
I headcanon Pandora and Evan and twins
Amos Diggory was born in 1960 or earlier.
Frank Longbottom was born between September 2, 1957 and August 31, 1959 or earlier.
sorry if this is very messy and confusing
That was it for now but I will probably add more stuff!

Lately, I've been really reading the FF7 timeline to copy it down for reference and I've found some *very* interesting details. Here's a list of stuff so far:
Bugenhagen is apparently born in 1877?? This means he's 130 years old in OG!!
Pres Shinra is born in 1940. Palmer is 3 years younger than him.
Hojo was born in 1945, making him around 35 when Sephiroth is born.
ShinRa was known as "ShinRa Manufacturing" before it was an electric company, and we apparently don't have a date for when it was founded but know it discovered Mako energy on September 23, 1959.
Heidegger is born in 1949, making him a year older than Vincent.
Both Vincent and Lucrecia are born in 1950.
Red XIII is born in 1959, which is apparently the same year the Gi attacked.
Grimoire dies ~1970, which means Lucrecia was around 20 when it happened. Can you imagine doing undergrad research trying to get ahead of the curve and you get your advisor killed by the equivalent of a minor deity cuz you wouldn't stop poking it? She wasn't even a grad student when it happened 😂
Barret and Reeve are the same age, having been born in 1972.
Cid is actually 3 years younger than both of them, having been born on Feb 22, 1975.
Construction on the Midgar plate starts in 1976, and ShinRa is known as an electric company by then, but we don't know when that actually changed.
Tseng, Rufus, and Rude are all the same age, having been born in 1977. SOLDIER is initiated in the same year to help bring an end to a long-running international war.
Oh, Jenova is also found in 1977, which means none of the trio can even be conceived until that year. The Jenova Project also starts up that year.
At some point between 1977 and 1982, Vincent is assigned to guard the scientists running Project S. Yeah, we have no concrete date for that.
Somewhere around 1980, the trio are all born. No actual birthdates for any of them.
Gast leaves Shinra in 1980, which means, that even if Sephiroth is born in late 1977, he literally never knew the guy. He apparently meets Ilfana at some point before 1985, but we have no date for that.
We also have no official date for Lucrecia going crazy and Vincent getting shot. Wiki says it's somewhere around 1984, which is fucking wild. Cuz it's stated that she goes crazy during pregnancy and Vincent confronts Hojo as a result of that, which gets him shot. And yet, Sephiroth is supposed to be born around 1980??? Which means there's no chance he was born that late? WHICH IS IT SQUARE???
Reno is born in '79, meaning he's conceivably older than Sephiroth??
We have no concrete date for Zack being born, just the "around 1984", except we know he's 16 in '00, which means he was born early '85 at the latest since he's canonically 2 years older than Cloud and CC starts in October of '00.
We have no idea how old Kunsel is! I usually place him as being born in '83 and a year older than Zack.
Aerith was born Feb 7, 1985 and Gast was killed 20 days later on Feb 27.
Cloud was born on August 11, 1986 and Tifa was born on May 3, 1987.
we have actual years for basically all the Tsviets being born and yet no date for Sephiroth.
Yuffie's mom is apparently named "Kasumi"??
The Wutai war begins "around" 1992, which means Sephiroth could conceivably be, at the youngest, like, 8 when it starts up and around 16 at the oldest. We also have no concrete date for when he gets deployed, but know he's apparently a 1st class already by then?
Tseng is also only, like, 15 when the war starts, which leads me to believe that he gets recruited by the Turks in the early days of the war. He's also a rookie Turk by 1997 when the whole thing that results in Kalm being bombed happens.
Cissnei is hailed as the youngest ever full Turk, and considering Tseng is one by the time he's 20, and Reno is one when he's late teens, she's gotta be as young or younger than Zack. I usually put her as being born in '85 and thus 15 when CC starts.
Before Crisis is fucking wild dudes. We have at least years for all the events and it gets the Turks involved in a huge number of events in the timeline.
Rufus isn't made VP until after Genesis deserts. Seriously. The mass desertion event happens in October of '00 and Rufus isn't VP until December.
The Wutai war ends in Feb of '01 and Avalanche starts being a problem almost instantly (hmmm, I wonder why?? It's almost like someone started giving the group funding to start up 🤔)
Cloud leaves Nibelheim somewhere between December of '00 (when he makes his promise to Tifa) and April of '01 (when he meets Zack on the Modeoheim mission).
Cloud successfully kills a RAVEN (an enhanced Avalanche soldier made by Fuhito, a cheap Hojo knock-off) with their own sword in June of '01 when he's 14.
Avalanche attacks the ShinRa building in June of '02 and apparently almost makes off with Hojo??
Avalanche learned of Aerith and actually try to kidnap her in August of '02.
Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth arrive in Nibelheim on Sept 22 and are then there for a whole 9 days before Sephiroth snaps and burns the town to the ground on the 10th (October 1).
Marlene is born in late winter/early spring aka early '03, making her 4 at the time of OG.
Apparently, Avalanche and the Turks were involved in the failed Shinra No. 26 launch?? I actually refuse this specific thing as canon, but the failed launch happened on April 12 of '03. Cid is 28 at the time.
The Corel reactor is attacked on May 8, and the town is blamed for it and burned to the ground apparently the same day??
Red XIII is captured by Shinra on October 30 of '06. And apparently, Reno was one of the Turks who captured him??
Zack and Cloud escape the lab on Dec 18 of '06. It then takes him almost 3 months to make it to Gongaga (arrives in February).
Then, Zack doesn't make it to Banora until September?? And that's when he deals with Genesis. And then he's dead before the month is over.
An entire mess with a summon called Zirconiade happens in early October of '07, where Midgar is almost destroyed cuz Fuhito decided that killing all humans was the best way to save the planet and turns himself into the summon?? Idk BC is fucking wild. This marks the end of this incarnation of Avalanche.
Tifa also finds Cloud wandering the slums in October of '07 and then the reactor bombing doesn't happen until December. This gives us officially 2 months of time where his recovery was happening and zero details. I have fanfic ideas already.
It's incredibly funny to me that Avalanche as the Turks know it is done in October and then, 2 months later, another cell pops up and has the balls to bomb a reactor. Talk about the mother of all cockroaches.
Apparently, officially, OG takes place over around a month or so??
Edge is being built by the end of January '08 and the WRO is also founded very quickly. I don't know if I believe that, really.
Advent Children happens in '10, and we have very little knowledge about those 2 years other than some OVAs and light novels I think.
DoC happens in '11. The less said about that, the better.

SAINT OF THE DAY (September 1)
Tumblr media
St. Beatrice was born to Portuguese nobility in 1424 in Cuerta, Portugal.
She was one of the eleven children of Rui Gomes da Silva, the governor of Campo Maior, Portugal, and Isabel de Menezes, an illegitimate daughter of Dom Pedro de Menezes, 1st Count of Vila Real and 2nd Count of Viana do Alentejo, in whose army her father was serving at the time of her birth.
One of her brothers was Amadeus of Portugal, a noted reformer of the Order of Friars Minor.
She was raised in the household of the future Queen Isabel of Portugal and spent some time in her royal court in Castile following the Queen's marriage to John II.
She soon got tired of the empty life at court and joined a Cistercian convent in Toledo.
She lived at the convent until 1484, when she answered a summons from God to found a religious order.
The Congregation of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was begun, and with the help of the Queen, she founded a house outside of Toledo where she lived and served as superior until her death on 16 August 1492.
She was beatified by Pope Pius XI on 28 July 1926. She was canonized by Pope Paul VI on 3 October 1976.
Her feast day is celebrated by both by the Conceptionist nuns and the Franciscan Order and in Spain on September 1.
However, in 2012, it was transferred to August 17 for Portugal.

Ken Buchanan, arguably the best boxer Scotland has ever produced was born on June 28th 1945 in Edinburgh.
After turning pro in 1965 Ken Buchannan won both the Scottish and British lightweight crowns before traveling to the United States and gaining world-wide recognition.
In 1970, Buchanan, lost to Miguel Velasquez in Madrid, Spain, in a bid to capture the European 135-pound title. By year’s end, though, he’d conquer the world.
Buchanan challenged lightweight champion Ismael Laguna on September 26, 1970 in Puerto Rico. The temperature inside Hiram Bithorn Stadium reached 100-degrees as these master boxers put on a sterling exhibition. Buchanan rocked the champion in the 12th round and won the title via narrow split decision. He became the first fighter from the British Isles to take the lightweight crown since Freddie Welsh in 1917.
In 1971, Buchanan successfully defended his title twice, copping 15-round decisions over Ruben Navarro in Los Angeles and Laguna at Madison Square Garden in New York on a card ahead of Muhammad Ali and the late Joe Frazier A year later, Buchanan would return to the Garden for his most controversial and memorable contest.
On June 26th, 1972 Buchanan put his belt on the line against Roberto Duran (Duran scored an impressive kayo on the undercard of the Buchanan-Laguna rematch). Duran dropped Buchanan early and controlled much of the action. At the close of Round 13, the fighters swapped punches. Buchanan claimed he was kneed in the groin. Referee Johnny LoBianco, however, did not see the infraction. The fight was stopped before the 14th round could begin and Duran was rewarded with the victory and the title.
Buchanan came back three months later and stopped future Hall-of-Famer Carlos Ortiz in six rounds. In 1973, he decisioned future world champ Jim Watt to regain the British lightweight title. He lost in his only other world-title bid, dropping a decision in 1975 to WBC champ Ishimatsu Suzuki.
Buchanan was inactive from 1976 to 1978 and fought sporadically until retiring for good in 1983.
If Ken made money out of his boxing career it never made him rich, or he never held on to it going back to his old trade as a carpenter.. Many of my friends in the building trade have told me they worked on sites with him through the late 80's and the 1990's, he was described as an amiable man who was easy to get on with.
In 2022 Ken's family revealed he was suffering from Dementia, probably brought on through taking blows to the head during his career, he spent his last year or so in a Leith care home, In August last year he was able to make his final public appearance at the unveiling of his statue where he was serenaded with bagpipes in front of the crowd that was believed to be in the hundreds.
Ken Buchanan passed away peacefully in his sleep on Aplril 1st this year.
His funeral procession began in Leith and meandered its way past the former site of Sparta Boxing Club to St Giles on The Royal Mile where a memorial service was held a pair of white boxing gloves sat on his coffin.
The ‘Fighting Carpenter’ fought 69 times throughout his career, losing only eight and winning 27 by knockout
