Ethically I know it’s wrong and therefore I won’t do it
But sometimes I come across posts about ships and I just want to go “You’re not original, you’re not special, you’re obnoxious and frankly childish. Keep your shit out of the tags if you’re going to just be hateful. Until you have the balls to say that George R.R. Martin is a freak who deserves to die for problematic content like you say about randos on the internet, you need to sit down and shut up so the rest of us can exist without your bull in the tags of the things we like.”
Like yes I block them, and the ppl who encourage them in the tags, but it never kills the urge to snap at them.
Like on one hand, curate my own experience by blocking, on the other hand if no one counters and tells them that they’re wrong in so many ways and have turned disgust into morality that they would never hold against mainstream art and they’re regurgitating purity culture bullshit they may never actually realize why so many older members of fandom hate them and gets so aggressive and will continue to think that they’re in the right to be hateful and attack real people

I truly believe that i never would've cared about the Batfam long enough to stick around the fandom til now and plan to stay as long as i can if they were like what fanon stans want them to be canonically.Jason is unironically one of the love's of my life as a selfshipper who started reading comics because of him but i detest the 'better' version of him they've created and same goes for the rest of the Bats and all the non-Bats they've ruined to prop them up
No,i don't want to hear about a white man adopting kids just because they have blue eyes and canonical good parents being bashed or killed off so he can replace them. No,i don't think it's right to reduce one of the most iconic and influencel character's in comics history to a chronically happy dumbass manchild who's obsessed with his looks and sex and as an irl eldest sibling i feel personally insulted by what they've done to Dick because they don't know how siblinghood works. No,i don't like that Tim is always either getting demonized and called a bigot and abuser and 'incel' for being a realistic teenage boy constantly dealing with nonstop bullshit thrown at him in addition to already having childhood trauma or woobified and bamfified into a white male power fantasy-Often coupled with sexualization which is just plain horrifying because he's a fucking toddler. No,i don't feel taking an extremely rough and tough and canonically uncomfortable with society's ideas of femininity and what should be romance chinese girl and literally silencing her wants by erasing that she learned how to talk and how even before that she had major attitude and not only feminizing her but having the audacity to not even make her feminine in a chinese way and instead go the white girl femininity route
No,i don't enjoy seeing a brown arab boy who's already a victim of islamophobic stereotypes in canon have even more added onto it by adultifying him either for bashing or simping and even fucking animalizing him so the white boys he's shipped with can 'domesticate'(an actual term i've seen used for him multiple times)him. No,i don't care that Jason being an angry goth asshole and morally gray is hot to you so you decided to erase his canonical trauma response of not being open to dating or sex unless it's with someone he's super close to due to how much hurt he's been through because you see traumatized men as a fetish instead of people and think you're not being ableist because you're a cis woman. No,i don't think i'm being 'too mean' by insulting and saying i fucking hate people who leave out the ONE black Batkid we've ever gotten in all almost 100 years of Batman comics for no real reason yet inserting the blonde white girl who's not even Bruce's daughter in any way because she DATED HIS SON and is basically dating his actual daughter now while doing it in the most mid fanarts and headcanons imaginable and when he's literally everything they love in white boy protagonists from other medias but they refuse to relate to autistic and queer black kids of any kind
I hope everybody who popuralized it back when the fandom was starting out rots and you're foul as hell if you perpetuate it too,i'm 10000000% serious from the bottom of my heart

I sometimes wonder if readers would understand acotar characters and character dynamics more if it wasn’t a fantasy romance but a regular romance. I can easily imagine how the characters would interact with each other in a modern day world, it’s easier to see when a character makes a bad choice vice versa
I agree, and I think that allows for some sort of excusability or separation because it's fantasy, so it's not supposed to be real. Even though the way SJM writes about trauma, relationship dynamics, and characters feels more fleshed out and, at least to me, real.
The mating bond is probably the most fantastical aspect of the romance, and also the most important. I feel like those who ship Elucien and Gwynriel understand what it means in ACOTAR's world, while those who don't underestimate it or think it's something that can be fought against. I had someone argue that Nessian and Feysand were already in love before they acknowledged the bond, even though it was already there from the beginning.
I'm not sure it's so much about understanding, but I do feel like lines are blurred between canon and fanon, especially when someone is more likely to read fanfics than to reread the same book over and over. Certain ideas and headcanons get reinforced.
Azriel, right now, has the biggest disconnect in my opinion, especially when people say that "it doesn't seem like him" when the author wrote in his own POV - the chapter reads like a bad fanfic, sure, but to say that the perspective of the character that SJM created does not align with what they thought of is a little arrogant.
The mating bond is the crux of the ship war. Azriel has waited 500 years for a bond to snap with Mor. Should he be with someone who seems like she wants to reject her bond to be with him, even though she will never fully be his, or should he continue waiting until the Mother chooses to finally reveal to him his mate?
To me, with how SJM explained the mating bond in ACOMAF, Az deserves his mate.
But I will say, even without the bond, SJM took the time to highlight each mated pair's similarities and complement what they are lacking. Each pair that she decided to team with works with or without the bond.
So it still stems back: Should Az be with someone who triggers these negative feelings of self-worth, or should Az be with someone who he is thankful for the distraction of said negative feelings?

One thing I really don't get is the 'argument' ZKs use that there was apparently supposed to be a scene of Uncle Iroh saying "Zuko and Katara are made for each other." in one of the final episodes but it was cut out by Bryke.
Like let's just assume for a moment that is true and they cut out a scene like that. So? Why is it such a big deal? I mean, having a scene like that would just be plain stupid. Why is Iroh out of nowhere just saying that these kids are apparently 'made for each other' when the Sozin's comet is a day away. What good would it do????
Bruh, that's a CLASSIC cope of obviously fanon ships that were never seriously considered as a possible endgame by the writers. "There was totally a deleted scene in the finale confirming these two were going to get together, but it was all changed at the last second because of the showrunners/network/audience pressure!"
A non-canon ship I really like, Robin and Raven from Teen Titans 2003, had a TON of fans that pulled that crap and kept insisting that their hug after the world is saved in the season 4 finale (that was originally going to be the last episode of the show before the Network decided to give it an extra season) was actually orignally meant to be a kiss, confirming they had romantic feelings for each other and were going to be a couple from now on.
I saw that shit EVERYWHERE for a long while, and even though they were my OTP at the time, I just never believed it - and eventually, of course, the writers themselves said they never really had any other endgame couple planned other than Starfire and Robin (even though Beast Boy and Raven shippers love to pretend the writers said BOTH ships were supposed to be endgame, even though, other than the few flirty moments he had with Raven, Beast Boy's love interest was clearly Terra, and he didn't end up with either of them because, again, the writers explicitly said they only cared about making ONE pairing endgame).
Even though season four is basically THE RobRae season since their dynamic is explored and treated as very special and important, it is still VERY clear that any shippy vibes between them were either accidental or the writers toying with ideas, but without ever really considering straying from the original plan - the episode before the season finale even had Robin and Starfire almost become an item before the plot interrupts their moment. There's just no way the writers would do that, then make Robin and Raven kiss at the end. They even had Raven turn into a little girl and Robin protect and care for her, telling her the story of her own life almost like he was reading her a bedtime story, and Raven explicitly says she was raised by her friends and they are her real family. It's just very clear that we were meant to think of them as having a sort of sibling dynamic - I'd argue the writers exagerated a bit and accidentally created a great ship´, but their INTENTION is easily identifiable in the text.
It's the same thing with Avatar. The Kataang falling out was clearly just the classic "main couple can't actually get together until the finale for extra drama", and just a few episodes before that we had gotten confirmation that, even though he felt leaving the Fire Nation was the right thing, Zuko was still very much in love with Mai - and her saving him from getting captured pretty much screams "They'll get back together once this conflict is resolved." Kataang was set up from the very beginning of the story, and we got our first hints of Maiko in the third episode of the second season.
Meanwhile, Zuko and Katara had only truly started bonding in the second half of the last season. No minimally inteligent writer or network would EVER consider making THAT pairing become endgame instead of the much more developed ones, regardless of it's popularity, because it'd just break the show's narrative.
And why would IROH, who had not seen Zuko and Katara interact and bond at all since he wasn't there when it happened, say they're perfect for each other, like he knew anything about how their dynamic worked? Iroh had no way of being sure if they were the best of friends, close friends, or just two people that had friends in common but didn't really have any emotional connection with each other.
It's just very clearly trying to take advantage of Iroh's image of "THE wisest character in the whole show" (which is debatable even if he is obviously pretty wise, AND would still not mean "always correct" even if it was 1000% true) to try and go "See? Uncle Iroh agrees with me, so you have to do the same." As an Azula fan, I see that ALL the time.
Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if they're also stealing from the Zuko and Jin romance, as Iroh was very encouraging of that relationship being a thing. Once again, Zutarians claim their ship was TOTALLY in the plans for being endgame, and all their proof for it is just stuff their stole from other pairings and slapped their own ship's name to it.

(1) I’ve largely erred on the side of not saying this because I don’t care to rain on anyone’s parade, but since you mentioned feeling like the friendship between Tomura and Spinner can get blown out of proportion, I can think of at least one concrete reason for why that disconnect might exist. I obviously don't blame people for taking the official translations at face value, but I feel like Spinner's line about "bonding" with Tomura over games is another example of sentiments getting
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ahhhhhh lot of good stuff here
Putting a cut for length but also people who just don't wanna see this type of response
I feel this way about a lot of peoples' interpretations of the League and their interactions. Not just Spinner and Shigaraki, but all of them. I feel like a lot of gestures get blown way out of proportion. Shigaraki's "I just want them to be able to live how they see fit" does not equal "Their happiness is my priority, and I'm going to work to create a world where they can be happy". I'm sorry but those two are not the same thing, and I haven't seen Shigaraki act in such a way either. Those two goals may point in the same direction (they don't because he's a fucking liar to his own face and so is Toga to her own face), but that kind sentiment did not suddenly mean that he is prioritizing their happiness and wellbeing above all else. If that was the case, well, they wouldn't have formed a giant ass army to take on the world at war and risk dying (which one of them did) and Spinner wouldn't be in the situation he is in now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .
I don't want to rain on people's parades either, but my opinions are pretty clear and have been for a while and people have had plenty of time to block/unfollow me as they see necessary. So at this point, I don't hold back (I try very hard to avoid being super negative though about any character in general). I used to hold back my not so popular (in the villain corner of the fandom) interpretations on the League up until recently. As we've gotten closer to the end, I've decided that I'm just gonna put my opinion out into the void even if many people--specifically in the little circle of blogs I occupy--don't like it. And many don't, and that's okay. My opinion doesn't change unless the manga gives me a reason to change it.
Spinner and Shigaraki--I have a lot of issues here, MAJORITY of it due to fandom hyping them up as more than they are. And look, I don't care when stuff is clearly fanon or headcanons. Posts that are meant to be taken that way are usually pretty clear about it. But these are whole analyses based off of this overblown bond/friendship that literally only Spinner seems to acknowledge/be so attached to.
I don't doubt Shigaraki views everyone in the League as a friend in some capacity. I don't doubt that at all. I don't doubt that he cares and genuinely wants them to live how they want. However, I would like for someone to show me where he pays the same type of special attention to Spinner that Spinner gives to him. Imo, Shigaraki treats them all pretty equally--Spinner included.
I didn't know that about the Japanese, and yet, I still felt this way. Assuming that someone who has a good understanding of Japanese can correct your statement, I'm gonna take your word for it since I can't say shit otherwise lol. But cool--yeah that particular line is used quite a bit. And I get it! It's fun especially if you ship the characters or just enjoy their interactions.
But I feel like people overlook the fact that Spinner's idolization and attachment is literally negative and is a challenge in his arc, not some cute uwu friendship that was just about video games (when would they have played video games in canon??? WHEN????).
Spinner decided to seriously devote himself to Shigaraki (which in itself is a weird not great thing to do) during MVA, because it looked as if Shigaraki had made progress and overcome a barrier and become this all powerful destructive god who can make dreams come true (dreams for someone who wants to lash out at least). But MVA was not any of that. MVA was Shigaraki doing exactly what AFO wanted him to do--get worse emotionally, spiral more mentally and become even more unstable, and hate himself to the point that he sees no point in thinking or hoping for change for the better. Perfect, all according to keikaku. And THAT is when Spinner was like "FUCK YEAH THIS GUY". I know Spin didn't know that, but come oN guys THE TIMING OF IT IS SO FORETELLING.
AND IT WAS. Because look now. What has turned me completely off to this dynamic is the fandom hyping it up as a pure devotion that isn't stemming from a lot of self-worth issues and negative idealization. Spinner associates Shigaraki with destruction, rage, anger, and misery. That's also what Shigaraki associates himself with, and that's exactly what AFO wants. And man, he sure got it out of both of them.
And I'd like it if people acknowledged that more for what it is, but it's just reduced down to "two gamers that AFO groomed and took advantage of". And I feel that is just super oversimplifying what actually happened. AFO didn't groom Spinner from the age of 5, he took advantage of a vulnerability he was able to pinpoint super quickly after Spinner made it painfully obvious.
I like Spinner more on his own, and I like the potential for him to face the reality that him ignoring his gut instincts in favor of that dream of destruction he associates with Shigaraki eventually led to him making things worse for Shigaraki--unintentionally. I mean he hasn't made shit hit the fan YET--but man if things aren't looking ominous as fuck right now. AFO is counting on Spinner? Oof. But the potential for drama here is exciting, and I'm ready for it.
But yeah. I agree--it's overblown imo. It has become a plot point in Shigaraki's arc in a negative way. So I feel people miss the mark when they focus on how devoted Spinner is to Shigaraki during all of this mess, because that's exactly why things look the way they do lol.

Like, i get it that people can be frustrated that something they really like on a character, (ie. Glasses on Imogen) is not canon, and i get making shitposts about it or venting for whatever reason
The problem lies when people make a whole thread about how a player doesn't know their character and their canon decisions are bad somehow? And it's not like Laura hasn't acknowledged the glasses hc, she has several times in th show, she just doesn't share that canon for whatever reason she might have
It's a big problem with actual play podcasts that the viewers take away from the player's agency to play their own canon, CR has a big breach between the audience and the players, plus the fact that they are professional actors, so viewer opinions rarely influence the characters in a meaningful way. But MAN is it frustrating to see
So I agree with much but not all of this. Because here's the thing: this is not actually a breach of player agency. Like, to be clear, I think the people doing this sometimes believe that if they're loud and obnoxious enough they'll get what they want, but in the end what this means is that you might notice that the players of any podcast/show that's large enough that they don't rely on Twitter for connections anymore have become really hard to reach on Twitter. Like, no matter how much art people make of Imogen in glasses, in the end, Laura decides, and she can just block people she doesn't like. And frankly, even when Critical Role was live? So much was quietly decided behind the scenes. Like, Taliesin had decided Molly was not a character who could be resurrected from well before Molly's death; no matter how much some sad rando on Twitter screams and cries even to this day, it won't change that.
I think it's okay to wish your fanon were canon - I mean, technically that's all shipping is, right - but I think there's a point where someone with a reasonable relationship to fiction says "man, that sucks that this went in a direction other than the one I wanted" or even "I don't like how this was written/played out" but to say it's objectively incorrect is just...you don't know what's correct! There isn't necessarily an objectively correct answer!
I also think that while Laura creating Imogen as a character who doesn't wear glasses is not an example of this, two of the biggest examples of entitled fans I can think of recently are the current ACOC D20 debacle, and the incredibly misogynist and obnoxious way people talked about Madeleine Roux's Lucien book. The people screaming the loudest have all, truly, been people who created fanon, and who then saw someone else be hired to essentially create sanctioned canon as a collaborator and instead of saying "oh cool! someone else playing in my same space doing their thing" they threw a massive tantrum because the other person had different ideas. It's literally just people who are bad at understanding that other people exist separately from them and have their own feelings and ideas. Coincidentally, people who lack this kind of understanding also tend to come up with really stupid ideas.
Honestly that's kind of the guiding principle behind the vast majority of fandom bullshit:
People want to simultaneously have the scrappy independence and cool fuck-the-man vibes of the underdog [fanon], and the actual power of those in charge [canon]. Obviously, this is impossible. If you realize this you'll be able to strike a balance. You will also understand a lot of real-world political and social dynamics on the micro and macro level.
I keep going to metaphors of early childhood here and some of this is because I have three younger siblings so I've seen (and been a part of) this countless times, and some of it is because truly all of this is full-grown adults acting like the worst kid in preschool who is definitely going to have to repeat it because they are not kindergarten ready but like, the vibe is when a child is not playing with a toy but also if anyone else touches the toy they scream bloody murder.
Anyway though as I said yesterday, yeah it's frustrating because you're watching people who are, as I think I said once, like a dog in a crate where the door is open but they're too fixated on trying to somehow push through the bars to turn around. But also it's a great source of mostly meaningless schadenfreude, because like, I'd feel bad if someone actually had bad things happen to them but if like, a ship doesn't happen, or Imogen doesn't wear glasses? That's just funny and enjoyable. I think an important skill in life is to say "yes it's incredibly annoying how much people are whining about this, but also they didn't get what they wanted, which is very funny."

Reasons why I`m not giving up on canon buddie after season 6
btw remember you always have fanon. And buddie is pretty popular ship. ao3 is always here to have your back
I'm just will hope till every last episode
Buck should have chose his couch by himself. But also thing he should have stopped to be scared to "make a mistake again". Buck decided to try it with Natalia. It doesn't mean they are 100% are going to be together. He just let himself to try to live without fear of making mistakes. Because you cant live without them. Because you always is going to make mistakes in something. But you should allow yourself to live and learn from them
Also Buck asked her "to help him to pick a new couch". Not picking for him. Not just bringing her couch. He wants to be active in relationship now, and he wants the person he consider as a possible future partner to be with him in this. But the word "help" is interested. Something telling me Buck sees Natalia as a way to deal with his death. And I dont believe he is accepted this fact.
Maybe Buck is ready to try to be active in relationship we still needs to see if Natalia is ready for be with Buck at his worst and let him be with her at her worst (but for now she just run away after bad dates)
Eddie never just date people. He never had fun. And all this years he was closed after Shannon. He needs to try to open his heart a little bit, try to date someone for himself and answer what he wants. For now he is just excited to make something for himself. And it's amazing. But you can't always make it easy. Problems in relationship sooner or later will be here (fantasy vs reality). It can't be just "magic" every day. Can't be the best day every day. And Marisol was here as a perfect answer for Eddie's attempts to find magic in "dream" T-shirt
Eddie is scared to be alone, but we never heard him to name what exactly he wants from partner FOR HIMSELF. Never said what love for him. He always tried to connect again/find a mother for Chris, not partner for himself. Dates with Marisol is a good opportunity for him to think about what he wants. And how to make it reality
And here we can remember the "so many excellent choices right under his nose". It's about both of them. Eddie for years was closed after Shannon, believed he wasn't good romantic partner ("I wasn't enough"). Buck was making mistakes trying to cling to people and then scared to make mistakes again so tried to close himself from romantic relationship. He wanted real love all his life but settled to less because never believed he could have more. They both were creating their partnership with hearts close to real love, close to even let them try to see it. So yes they don't see each other as a romantic partner for now. They can't see the answer right in front of them. And before see each other they need stop to close and hide themselves, stop to be scared to make mistakes. And they are trying to do it now but with other people. It doesn't mean this people are their engame choices
If 911 creators really wants people to like LI for Buck and Eddie they should give them normal screen time and backstories and really good development on screen. And I can't see how they can do it with Marisol and Natalia even if abc will make it 22 episodes. They both for now is just LI characters and it`s boring. Their works also can't be put in the show for them to be not Ali/Ana again. Because Taylor at least somehow could be close to calls and her job made sense to be shown.
I'm still see couch as metaphor for Buckley-Diaz family. Because what was the point of introducing it like that? Family dinner. And Chris first started conversation. If it's not about Chris and Eddie, they could make it conversation with Maddie, Bobby or just with Eddie while they drink bear and talk about life. But it wasn't like that. it was cute family dinner with family recipe, with a board game
"Dating someone from the call..." Both met their new LI on calls

my biggest challenge with regards to addressing the things i'm frustrated about in popular trigun fanon is that i don't necessarily think any of them are bad on an individual level, i respect everyone's right to create fanwork even if it's not so much fanwork as using existing characters as a template for their own personal proclivities. that's. fine. everyone does it.
i really don't want to imply that everyone who's decided they like wolfwood better if he's bulky and betitted and sexually capable is doing it because they need to check their internalized biases in regards to the expectations of masculinity for men of color and the general perception of latino men. that's allowed to be a thing you like. and 98 and trimax wolfwood do have some traits that vaguely resemble fanon wolfwood. it's not like it came out of nowhere.
but. if that's what everyone is doing, regardless of the canon being depicted. that's just a little bit weird!! that is a totally different guy from any of the versions of the existing character. and the specific traits that have been invented wholecloth for this fanon version have some. baggage!!! given the simultaneous redesigning that across the board darkens his skintone significantly.
and similarly i don't have anything against trans vash headcanons or even the tendency to have the trans character bottom, there is zero problem with that. i have literally, intentionally, written wolfwood the same way people write vash because i genuinely agree that the dynamic is hot.
but when "has a cunt" has replaced vash's entire personality in fanon because of course being a trans man means being a squeaky tearful uwu bottom and probably a virgin. i start looking around for who spiked the punch with terf koolaid. this is more than just falling for vash's bit this is just. wringing him of any individuality or canon personality.
complicating things even more is that a lot of this shit predates stampede, and it predates stampede because the original versions of characters did have some of the quirks that their new & fanon soup versions are assigned. but they had those as part and parcel of their characters, and that's just been repurposed into extremely tired and racist & bioessentialist tropes.
i know this is a bigger problem than this one fandom or just these two characters, but vashwood is my ship, so it's the place i've felt the most disappointment.

Hello haters!
Now if you know me you know I like two things:
HATING (and please don't call me an anti)
MAKING DISCORD SERVERS
So! I have decided to combine these two things
Now, some backstory:
(Spoiler warnings for Xtale)
Backstory~
I was coming back from holiday in Port U Gal (it was nice, other than the fact i burned to death a lot) and decided HEY! I DOWNLOADED THE LAST EPISODE OF XTALE TO WATCH ON THE PLANE! I SHOULD DO THAT!
Before this, I had slowly been dragging myself through xtale (adhd means i needed to spread it out). I liked it, other than the fact I had no idea what was going on 30% of the time. Anyway.
So I watched Xtale episode the last, and suddenly Sans was relevant despite only having about two speaking roles beforehand. And suddenly he and CharaFrisk were claiming to be besties. And suddenly FriskChara tried to make him kill them bc... it would force XGaster into reseting, weakening him (i think).
All of a sudden everyone's memories were back and they were about to kick XGaster's ass. WONDERFUL, thought me. THIS CUNT'S HAD IT COMING FOR TEN EPISODES. But then GUESS WHO SUDDENLY DEVELOPS MARY SUE SUPERPOWERS AND DESTROYS THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE, BECAUSE... I genuinely do not know.
Did he feel CharaFrisk betrayed him by overwriting him? Maybe, but I think their actions were justified. They didn't see any other way out and they genuinely thought sans would be willing to help bc theyre besties for some reason.
Did he feel for Gaster bc he raised him? Valid enough, but if that's the case why did Papyrus (who was also raised by XGaster), Mr Spare a Genocidal Maniac, join the Gaster torture?
And again, WHY WAS HE THAT OP? There is no explanation for where those powers came from and I think that it is ridiculous he destroyed everyone and everything with full control over his powers, and then had the gall to wail about it. Like dude. No one was forcing you to do that?? Jeez.
And then Ink, who somehow failed to notice the Ten Variations of Hell Gaster created despite multiversal watch being his LITERAL JOB, comes in like. Oh! Hi sans variant in a destroyed universe! You're invited to the main plotline now! ;D
Wow.
Nothing against Ink, but according to the poll runner server, Ink's inaction is kind of a thing that happens a lot in Underverse. Rip.
End of Backstory~
(Please don't hate on me if you like Cr#ss. If you are a fan of him, good on you! Enjoy the pleathora of fanon content, and feel free to block me. Just no hate pls)
To sum it up, I think Cr○ss Sans sucks but there is nothing on tumblr or ao3 or anywhere agreeing with me
So! I am starting a Cr♡ss Hate Club™ where we complain about him and make that hater content we've been craving, including shipping him with TECtale Sans (an oc of mine who is kind of the worst) and creating the "Cr□ss Sans is a Jerk" tag on ao3 (if swapfell sans gets one, SO DOES CR%SS)
The hate club will be a discord server, the link to which doesn't even exist yet. This is mostly a post to see if people are interested. If not, and I'm right about everyone's undying love for him then that's okay! I'll delete the post and move on with my life.
If you're interested but fear hate, feel free to dm me. But if anyone dms to yell at me for not liking Cr0ss, you're getting blocked.
And remember:
Me saying I don't like someone or something doesn't mean I'm saying you're not allowed to enjoy it, because guess what? People are allowed to have opinions! If he is your fave, good for you! Just please please don't send me hate.
Hell, send me Cr☆ss centered fics that portray him positively if you like, its good for me to broaden my horizons and shit. Also I like the Nightmare's gang found family stuff lol.
Yeah that's pretty much it. Will censor Cr◇ss's name so it doesn't come up when searched.

🔥 + any shipping discourse of your choosing :D
Oh boy, at a point I noticed that so many shipping wanks in fandoms just use the same circle of ad verbatim arguments just with a different coat of paint. And for the sake of enjoying my fandom experience I prefer to stay out of such discussions as good and often as possible.
BUT...
One development I don't get is the need of canonisation of shipping. I mean sure, who of us hadn't thought that a certain relationship would have improved/made more sense for a story, especially a character arc? Sometimes bittersweetness, unused potential, or unfullfilled longing makes sense for the plot, sometimes the author is an idiot (the eternal pain of enduring shounen manga endings written by men...). However... that is what fandom's for: The possibility of transformative versions, exploring ideas canon had space for, never intended, going silly, having fun. I would love to see my blorbos smooch each other but in the end that's free time enjoyment, nothing that I need to harass a creator/creative team over.
Whereas I do think that well written stories developing relationships that stray away from the standart het couple* can speak to people, and put a foot in the door for more stories being told by creators outside the standart Hollywood demographic, they are going to be usually not as popular in fandoms themselves. The reasons can be varied although my take would be it would be the invisible undercurrents of general dismissal of female characters, especially PoC female characters, a disinterest to engage outside of big IPs in first place. That's not me policing what kind of shipping would be the "🙏moral thing actually(TM)✨", fandom is for personal interest or fun in the first place. What I do find questionable is how the way that the language of social justice activism is coopted to argue why one's blorbos should smooch each other is beyond personal gratification actually also will singlehandedly be a deciding step in [add human right's movement of your choice here], adds another layer of annoying shipping culture. Certainly, it is mean how even acknowledgement of minorities has to compete against other demographic acknowledgement which also only has a chance to tolerated, and not even of large scale, in the accessible mainstream media. Still, I don't find it weird how, by example, the mere shipping (not even canon) of an interracial couple gets dismissed by other shipping groups as "no, the character is ✨gay✨, hun, no girls allowed".
I would maybe less irked by all that if so much shipping culture recently wouldn't push for "canonisation". having one ship next to the other or liking both ships could be a perfectly fine thing within fandom but the claim that one kind of ship would be better than the other in canon, without the consideration what cultural bagage comes with dismissing some kinds of relationships).
[*I mean two able bodied, cis, beauty standart guy and gal. Next to queer relationships (not excluding any intersection either),there's so much potential in talking about cross cultural relationships, dealing with disabilities or beauty standarts, or love in old age, generally love outside the model that "romance" occurs in fast food media only when the protagonist dude meets a conventionally attractive girl and they're obligated to fall for each other based on hormones boiling alone.]
In ill thoughts, I suspect that the wish for caonisation is only partly based of the distortion of fandom as activism space. (I mean when you spend all your life time on the web in fandom instead of going out creating or commissioning others to create the progressive work you want to see - or, very subversive, actually do activism and community support work yourself.)
Another the other reason I ill-mindedly speculate on is overindulgent wishfullfillment in two forms: A) A favourite blorbo gets so much projected on, they become a distorted fanon character yet have nothing to do with canon themes. This character then becomes a an altered Gary/Mary Sue doll the fandom created for itself, uses for dollplay whereas the canon does it's own thing. So what ever happens to thematical canon blorbo doesn't meet the ideal of fanon Frankenstein-blorbo and is met with anger. B) A Variation of the point above is selfprojection on the blorbo. Say when a blorbo becomes one's personal idol. Eg, like YA romance protagonists who're so suitable for reader inserts that one could easily think they themselves were the pretty sad girl with a hot love interest. The same can be observed in fandom where blorbos undergo the same doll-fication in a more personalized edition. Then character X isn't their canon self anymore, aggressive factions of fandom claim that X absolutely has to get together with the blorbo love interest - no matter the rest of the plot. (I wish the shipping wars during GoT season 8 were my only example but oh boy...!)
Speaking of the rest of the plot... I really dislike how overtaking shipping has become in fandom spaces. Certainly, makes more sense in romance centered fandoms but in in non-romance centered fandoms, it really bugs me how during the duration of shipping wars (and for all the flimsy excuses fandoms uses in the points above) it's impossible to talk about anything else, and how distorted fandom views can get about a certain kind of ship. Maybe, two blorbos smooching is not that world shattering as it personally feels.
(Yes, this is a reminder to myself by times when fandom gets too stupid. A reality check helps by times that people getting heated about two dimensional events is still leisure time whereas financial ends and deadlines need to be met, and honestly if something bugs me, the block function of users and/or tags is a great thing. Generally, we should log off more often but that's a topic for another day...)

( I have the very lovely @kimalysong to thank for encouraging me to post this bit of overthinking which I greatly appreciate!)
Now that we have a full line up of the EN release for the covers of the main story for MDZS, I was curious to discuss the running theme of them which consists of Wei Wuxian metaphorically looking towards his future (meaning Lan Wangji) throughout the art.
For reference, each of the covers:

MXTX fandom needs to stop having an obsession with making the straight dudes seem gayer than the actual protagonists.
Just saying, that washing of them (i.e Jiang Cheng, Feng Xin, Lan Xichen, Shen Jiu), to make them fanon gay and to prop them up over the canonical queer men, is highly disturbing on the English-base side of these takes.
You "making the work more gay" by doing this, is tone-deaf when you sweep away the leads just because you "don't like so and so" dynamic but slap that same thing on the straight men.

Lan Wangji could probably be chewing on Lan Xichen's forearm as hard as possible and the guy would still be going "He's the greatest and cutest little brother ever right?" All while everyone else stares in horror.

I will never get how some will read all the way through MDZS, get shown and told that all the lies based around Wei Wuxian were all untrue, and still tell themselves that Jiang Cheng was still wronged and his feelings are still "valid" by the end.
Jiang Cheng's feelings stopped being valid the moment he decided to be like his mother and choosing to hate people because that was easier than fixing the parts of him he disliked. It stopped being just a problem between his parents and him when he decided to use Wei Wuxian as a shield to name all of his wrongs to lash out against. You do not call someone just a support when you only use them as a scapegoat to say they are the reason for what you did not get in life. You do not call someone a friend or sibling and tell them they owe you for protecting them and then hold that protection over them as a price they have to buy into.
His story is tragic, but it stopped being empathetic when he dragged his projection of failings from just Wei Wuxian on to Lan Wangji and Wen Ning. He chose to project that his father and Wei Wuxian were playing favorites and always choosing someone else over him, when he himself did nothing to mature out of the angry sad child he had been. A child's feelings of being able to do nothing in the face of rocky parents fighting over control are valid. A grown man who continued to find a parental figure to rage against without ever bettering himself, is not.
Jiang Cheng got the ending he deserved because that was the effort he put into his bond with Wei Wuxian. You do not do the bare minimum and expect open arms after years of bitterness and hate that you created from your own insecurities and fed to the world. As an adult you do not continue to be hateful and expect unconditional love from the one you hurt constantly and belittle. Nor because you do one "good" action does it erase the pile of hate you put into the world and demand you are owed something from another. Forgiveness does not mean an opening to rekindle a relationship that is broken, it's just a door closing and sometimes it isn't ever going to be opened for you again.
You move on though and be yourself without excuses.

Separate Ways is a gross colonialist ‘white savior’ story. It romanticizes abuses too. And of course no one has ever called out the author, just heaped kudoses on them. Even though the writing was very bad too. Bet the author is white! Shyowl didn’t make Dinluke racist, PEPPER PRINTS DID. Shy’s first story is based on SWs and you can tell. If we say nothing to racist fans that are ‘too important’ then maybe we deserve to be seen as racist. What you said made me feel like maybe there’s hope.
It does feel uncomfortable to blatantly say "this person is responsible" but maybe we should. I don't have opinions on the author of SW, I don't know them, I haven't ever had a conversation with them. What I have read is SW and I agree with you. I actually read it before the end of Mando season 2, before the ship blew up, because before then there were like 8 fics on the tag of a ship that was basically a crack ship. And I remember reading it and having this feeling of dread the entire time. Yeah the romance and the feeling of novelty were what kept me hooked, and I don't agree that it's badly written, but I always felt like the "bajada de línea" (an expression that means the underlying political stance the author interests on a story) was basically Luke goes to Mandalore like a Missionary Baptist, has to overcome the trials the "natives" give him, and after he "wins" he's awarded with an ancient piece of their culture and become's Din's housewife. He's a doormat through the entire story, which is very out of character, but whatever. It never sat right with me how the fandom took this fic and decided it was the Holy Bible. And yeah, ShyOwl's very clumsy revamping of the story is better in terms of story, at least Mandalore has some political agency, but man it's very badly written. Like at some point I couldn't get past the typos, and English is not even my first language.
And you bring up a good point, that fandom putting fic writers on pedestals and taking their ideas as universal fanon is very messy. How many times did we read a fic that was incredibly well written that went unnoticed? And most fic authors are completely unprepared to properly process the amount of attention that having a fic blow up brings to them. It's almost random which fics will become the next Big Thing. 99% of fic writers are very young or very amateur or both! That's why I'm insistent that we really should start being open to feedback again instead of burying our heads in the sand saying "fic authors don't ask for unsolicited criticism" because that creates an echo chamber where everyone thinks they can get away with anything. I don't care if the fic is good or bad in terms of writing style I care if it's racist or sexist, lol.

i already did this long ago (early TBC era i think?) and honestly idk who i got but Moonkitti posted a vid on this so i decided “why not”
here’s my supposed warrior cats favs from the Picker!
im sure if you asked me to list 42 of my favorite warrior cats characters i wouldnt pick half of the cats on this list bcus i forgot abt them or smth.... actually im gonna try that- 42 from memory w/o looking at the list above lmao:
Frostfur, Ashfur, Scourge, Thistleclaw, Bristlefrost, Frostpaw, Shadowsight, Rootspring, ghost!Bramblestar, Lightleap.... getting hard to think.... Spottedleaf? Willowpelt, Darkstripe, Swiftbreeze- Monkeystar (accidentally looked up lmao)- Sleekwhisker, Flipclaw (+Feather), Hollyleaf ig, Jayfeather too... uhh.... Duskfur, Berryheart, Curlfeather maybe... Ravenpaw sure, Brackenfur... Shellfur in Spotfur’s Rebellion, and I guess Stemleaf, Harestar, Tigerheartstar, Leafstar... background cats i just like for no reason: Willowclaw, Leafshade, Wrenflight (TBC), oh i do like Tree a bit, Turtlecrawl (+Kitescratch), Cloverfoot... five more so just- Hawkwing, Violetshine, Twigbranch, Finleap, aaaand Ivypool.
There! Not too different I suppose, mostly I was just grasping at straws lol. Every warrior cats character ever are all kind of just “I like them generally” to me, I don’t really have favorites. ‘Cept for the top row, and even then, I just mildly like them more.
Okay so! Explaining favorites below.
The red hearts mean I FOR SURE like them, and would 100% list them as favorites. The pink hearts mean I like a fanon/AU version of them more, but I still enjoy canon them generally. The yellow stars mean I would list them as my favorite leaders moreso than favorite characters, but I still like them as characters too. Also, Spotfur should be higher than Stemleaf- I’m not sure why the picker was so very eager to force him so high up for me XD I like him more as an extension of Spotfur and Bristlefrost’s stories than I do on his own. Turtlecrawl and Kitescratch are basically the same bully, but I do like Turtle a teensy bit more for no reason except that I hoped she’d redeem herself and be Root’s heteronormative love interest under the assumption that Bristlefrost was just a fleeting crush. And Snow the Sister!!! She straight up vanished from my selection, even tho I would have put her higher than Moonlight?? Maybe. Beetlewhisker should’ve also had a pink heart, as I have a hc ship of him and Redwillow for no reason lol. Similarly, Flipclaw and Feather are a duo for me, BUT, I do like Flipclaw more than Feather, since Flipclaw has more explored story and personality. Feather should be bottom row honestly. Whistlepaw too as she is also mostly only on there bcus I ship her and Frostpaw. Sunbeam also bottom row bcus i like her for the drama created around her only
here’s a reorganized version to fit the above better:
Tumblr media
hmmm... it seems like I really like bad/complicated/bad-fate-befallen mothers lol. BT!Frostfur, Fanon!Willowpelt, Duskfur, Curlfeather, Berryheart, Millie, Dawnpelt, Blossomfall, and even Moonlight.
im not gonna bother explaining what/why i like each of these characters tho, but if any of you are like “WHAT?! HOW COULD YOU LIKE THISTLECLAW HE’S A PEDOPHILE??? HOW COULD YOU LIKE MILLIE BETTER THAN SILVERSTREAM??? SHE’S A HORRIBLE TERRIBLE ABLEIST MOTHER!” im gonna stab you with a fork

The worst/most toxic shipping takes
As a person who often indulges and enjoys many ships found inside my fandoms, I often find myself irritated by the controversy that seems to be directed toward certain pairings. Don't get me wrong, it's perfectly okay to not like any ship as long as you're civil about it. Still, I've been noticing this insidious trend creeping up in fandom spaces where people feel the need to call every pairing they don't like problematic or harmful to ship instead of just ignoring it and moving on. In order to put this into perspective, I decided to go through some of the most common arguments I see and explain why they don't hold much water. "This ship goes against the themes of the original media!" - I'll often see this argument used for pieces of media that have a general theme of friendship and navigating through that with its characters. To use an example, some fans of the show Amphibia claim that shipping the trio goes against the general theme of friendship in the show, and I can't help but find that unreasonable. Having a headcanon or fanon that involves shipping does not remove the canon show's themes in any way. Your canon is protected by the fact that it is what's actually shown on the screen, and no amount of fanwork will change that. People having fun pairing the girls together doesn't make the themes of the show any less valid if ya didn't know :/ "These characters have never even met before!" - Welcome to the internet! I'm glad you decided to join us in 2023! I wonder where you were when people shipped Elsa x Jack Frost. But seriously though, crack ships aren't inherently better than canon ships. Canon is not some god that shall be worshipped by all lest you get ridiculed. Maybe someone likes the potential dynamic that two characters could have and enjoy making fan content to see that come to life! As long as it's not harming anyone I don't see the problem. Shipping is just supposed to be for fun, remember?
"Not everything has to be gay!" - Oh god this one. I'll usually see this whenever people seem to get upset that others are shipping a F/F or M/M pairing that are known as friends in canon, along with other glorious phrases such as "Friendships exist" and "Why can't two guys/girls just be friends??" among others. Like... that same argument could practically be used for the thousands of M/F pairings found in most of the media we consume, yet it's being used for queer pairings despite the fact that we've had significantly less representation for decades and its only just recently started to turn around for the better. Honey, your double standards are showing and it's not a good look. "The fans focus more on shipping than the actual media!" - Oh no! People are finding their own way to appreciate and participate in the media they consume and try to share what they create with other people! Surely that means they just aren't paying enough attention and should instead enjoy it the way I FEEL like they need to enjoy the media. "There's too much shipping content!" - Learn how to curate your online experience. Tumblr has a block tag feature for a reason, and I'm sure that other social media sites have similar features. If you don't like something, there are ways to ignore it so you don't even have to see it in your feed. Don't start crying about shippers being everywhere when it's up to you to personalize your experience in fandom spaces to what you personally enjoy. So those are some of the most common controversies I see related to shipping. Like I said, it's totally fine to not like a certain ship, but if you have to go out of your way to explain why shipping something makes you "problematic" (When it isn't Incest, Pedophilia, etc), There are naturally going to be people frustrated with you. Let's just be more civil in fandom spaces, alright? I'm getting pretty tired of others being attacked just for shipping something the majority may not ship.

Narita is completing his Fate series and says he plans on going back to DRRR and Baccano. After the Kaishin reveal I feel so exhausted by queer pairings that get merch but will never get together that I’m thinking of skipping out on DRRR’s comeback. I get the sense that Izaya/Namie is going to happen anyway and there’s also the possibility of Shizuo/Vorona or even Shizuo/Celty if Narita decides to go there. To be honest I’m not opposed to these pairings even if I don’t seek them out. It’s just that I spent too many years attached to a same sex pairing that will inevitably get with the opposite sex that even as a pan person it can feel annoying knowing why it ultimately happens. DRRR had 13 volumes and SH has 4 so far with 9 more potential volumes so anything can happen and I don’t think I can go through with this feeling again lol sigh
Being apart of fandom and enjoying queer ships means that most of the time it's inevitable that the ships we don't enjoy, the ones that are het and because of that are pushed, become canon but that's what makes fandom so special. We choose what we incorporate into our fanon, so if the author makes a decision we don't like, we ignore it.
I don't like how these creators will profit from the queer implications without having to follow through but that's as because we take any crumbs we can get. I'm not blaming fandom for that, it's just the reality of capitalism.
My advice would be to distance yourself from canon. We put this great emphasis on the importance of it and it is to a degree, especially when discussing the media, but when it comes to creating art or fiction? That is us just borrowing the dolls to make our own story, regardless of canon.
Hey and take heart, at least you won't have to worry about him making Shizaya cousins.

About Me / Disclaimer
Tumblr media
Soft Xander ;w;
Hello!! You've found yourself at my blog, where I focus primarily on Fire Emblem content. You may call me Nohr, Minty, or my real name (Cassandra) as long as you don't shorten it! I'm autistic, with ADHD, major depression, anxiety disorder, trauma, and some childhood abuse. I'm aroace, and my pronouns are they/them or he/him. I'm still learning, but I'm a digital artist who loves to write. I also have two chihuahuas, Mango and Zaphod, who are my ESA dogs.
I come from communities where fanon and avatar oc's are the norm, and considering backlash I've gotten in the past from the FE community, I wanted to write a little disclaimer about my account and what it is I do. I don't expect everyone to agree with what I do here, but I do ask that you be respectful. I'm open to debate, as long as we can both remain open minded, objective, and accepting of others differences and opinions. I accept that the way you see the original content likely isn't the same as the way I do, that doesn't make your views any less valid than mine. I welcome interaction though, and you're more than willing to message me at any time. My asks will remain open, and I am on Discord. I don't mean any offense by this post of course! But I'd like to leave a disclaimer to avoid any misunderstandings and unpleasant interactions I've had with people in the past. Feel free to scroll past this.
Avatar OC's
One of my greatest joys is creating a balanced and complex character, and throwing them into an existing role in an RPG's storyline, while finding my ways to give them an arc of their own that holds tremendous meaning to me. I spend hours developing my avatars, figuring out how they work, what makes them themselves, and what their motives and desires are. Typically, by the time I decide to work on their relationships and arc, I already know what they'll do in almost every situation and I know what I want their story to be about. I first started doing this during my roleplaying days, then with Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, where avatar (hero) oc's were common.
I didn't really start to run into issues with this until I decided to jump on the Fire Emblem train. I've had people tell me that my avatars don't count because they're oc's, and others that they don't count as oc's because they're not original enough. This is extremely hurtful, as I spend weeks or months on these characters that hold tremendous value to me, then place them in a role that is intended to be a self-insert. It bothers me that I have been excluded from events and spaces for this reason, but not enough to stop doing it. My avatars have a piece of me, I often put my own experiences of neurodivergency, abuse, trauma, and mental illness into these characters.
I love sharing them with people, and will respect if you don't like them, but if you come to gatekeep or start drama, I would like to remind you that the back button is in the upper left corner of your web browser :)
OCxCanon Ships
I can understand why this might not be everyone's cup of tea. I've run into plenty of ocxcanon ships that I don't like. It can certainly be done badly, or it can be done very well. I do quite a few of these in my content, with my avatars in particular. You'll see it in friendships, too. This is the internet, and you're bound to find someone who disagrees with you. Which is fine! Again, though, if you don't care for it I would prefer you move on. My ships, like my characters, are very close to my heart for personal reasons. I do take criticism, yes, but it takes a lot for me to stop liking something, as I'm a very passionate person.
Character Interpretations
As I write a game's content, there is usually a singular character that I have my avatar focus their relationships on. Oftentimes, I may interpret or write their character differently than the fandom or even the original writers. It could be for a number of reasons... maybe I find their writing disrespectful or inconsistent. Maybe it better suits my narrative. Oftentimes, though, how I write the character will change over time as I become more confident and adjusted to writing them. The biggest examples of this are Xander and Dimitri. I do have some issues with both their writing (but will still talk about either on cue very passionately, as the good outweighs the bad) and as I've written them more, the style I write them in has changed.
When this is a conscious decision, it's not one I make lightly. I do plenty of analyzing and research and if I come to the conclusion that I want to interpret them differently or make a change, it's for a very good reason. For Dimitri, I find the way his mental illness is handled to be very disrespectful, and triggering for me, personally. Xander's inconsistent writing has been spoken of at length, and I make sense of it in a way I can understand; I try to prioritize his trauma, anxiety, and the soft sides of his personality. His relationship with my avatar is also a factor, as it's very different from his relationship with canon Corrin. Relationships with my avatar have the capacity to change the character's timeline or behavior, as different personalities will cause them to react differently.
Bear in mind, however, that I try to stay as close to the source material as possible! And I try not to downplay what a character has done, as long as it makes sense to me. It may not be what the writer intended for that character, but it's never done out of malice.
Headcanons & Fanon
When I write, I take the source material and mold it to fit my narrative. My characters have a separate personal journey that I want them to take. Relationships I want them to explore. I want to make them, break them, and build them back up again. Of course I recognize that my works are not part of the official canon, but I create a canon of sorts for my creations. I like to think of it as a parallel timeline. Mostly the same, but with a different character, with a different personality and history, where a few things are different. I value my ability to be creative. I implement a lot of headcanons into my work, and I absolutely love exploiting holes or reimagining things where I see an opportunity.
I can't speak for now, but years ago, this was a very common thing to do in the PMD2 community. PMD2 is a little vague and does have some holes, which the community as a whole loved to explore. Not everyone's take was the same, but that was the fun of it for me! I love reading everyone else's perspectives. The FE fandom is very different and I can respect that, but this is something I have been doing since 2010 and I enjoy it immensely.
Crossovers
I don't usually post these. Mostly because they're very self-indulgent and personal and I recognize that the majority of people won't care for them. But they do exist, and I put no less work into crossover content than I do anything else. Bear in mind though, although I like sharing my work with others, I write primarily for myself. I'm a hobbyist who creates what makes me happy.
You've reached the end!
Thank you for your time! I'll close with the statement that, of course, I am a human who makes mistakes. I try my best to learn from experiences and move forward. This post will probably change over time, but it will never be my intention to call anyone out or start drama. The experiences I've detailed in this post have been few, but for my mental health and others, I really need to avoid getting into arguments about fictional characters (outside healthy debate) anymore.
