Basic Intro to Types of Divination
What is divination?
The definition of divination is “the practice of determining the hidden significance or cause and of events”.
In my own words, divination is a practice in which you can learn more about the unknown in your life and help others know about the unknown in theirs.
What are the most common types of divination?
The most common types of divination (and the ones that will be detailed in this post) are:
•Cartomancy
•Channeling
•Oracle
•Pendulum
•Shufflemancy
•Tarot
Cartomancy:
Origins on cartomancy
It is unknown exactly where cartomancy originated from, as the earliest deck of cards date back to the 9th century, but we have been able to trace this practice as far back as to Europe during the 1360’s. Cartomancy gained popularity in the time between the 18th and 20th century due to its “fortune-telling” abilities.
What is cartomancy?
Cartomancy is the practice of divination using a deck of standard playing cards.
How to practice cartomancy
Begin by acquiring yourself a deck of cards, it can be literally any deck in sight if you wish.
Cleanse your deck before use, and then you’re good to go!
Begin shuffling your cards in any way you wish, and as you draw cards (or as they fly out, depending on how you prefer to do divination) lay them in the order that they are drawn and once you feel you have drawn enough cards, begin to interpret them.
Interpreting cards takes practice, so don’t be discouraged if you find it difficult at first, it will progress and become easier as you go.

Channeling:
Origins of channeling
Channeling origins are genuinely the most blurry of all of the forms of divination presented in this post. Channeling began as a way to communicate with the dead, but grew into what we know it as today.
Around 1000 BCE, channeling was under serious assault because of monotheism, as the practice was considered dangerous.
Although, channeling does not have one specific origin (as with many other types of divination) it is thought that Ancient Egypt is the birthplace of trance-channeling and dream-channeling.
What is Channeling?
Channeling is a way to contact beings from other realities or even your spirit guides/higher selves!
How to Channel
There are many different ways to channel. Personally, I channel telepathically, but you can do it in any way you wish.
It’s wise to get confirmation you’re channeling the correct person when channeling.
My personal channeling method:
1. Affirm protection and cleanse!
2. Begin by meditating for a minute and visualizing the person that you are attempting to channel
3. Imagining connecting with the person and feel their energy
4. Let the channeled session happen and then cut the connection
There are many different types of channeling so please research into the type of channeling you’re doing before you do it.
‼️DISCLAIMER‼️
With possession channeling, I highly suggest you do your own research into the safety of it and how to do it, please don’t just ask someone else for advice or jump right into possession channeling because it can be dangerous without the correct knowledge of it.
Oracle:
Origins of Oracle
Oracle, similar to tarot and cartomancy, originated in western europe (mostly france) during the 19th century. The first printed oracle cards were the Lenormand cards. These cards where used for psychic readings and spiritual guidance. soon, they gained popularity and became more common for use.
How to do Oracle Readings
First step is to find yourself a deck of oracle cards! You can make your own or order a deck online!
([Here|https://thetravelingwitch.com/blog/2018/4/17/how-to-create-a-beautiful-oracle-deck-in-8-steps ]a good post about how to make your own oracle deck)
You will cleanse and shuffle oracle cards the same way you do with tarot or cartomancy and interpret them according to your own guidebook if you’ve made your deck or the guidebook that came with your deck. As stated with cartomancy, interpreting may or may not come naturally to you, but don’t be discouraged, the more you practice the better you will become.
Pendulum
Origins of Pendulum
Pendulum origins as a divination and dowsing device date all the way back to 400 BCE, having been used by the Pythian Oracle of Delphi.
In 1833 Michel Eugene Chevreul researched the movement of pendulums and came to the conclusion that it was an involuntary movement of the hand or the wrist, causing the pendulum to swing. Pendulums respond with what your subconscious already knows by having your subconscious force small bodily reactions to have pendulums swing a certain way.
How to use pendulums/what you can use them for
With using a pendulum, you will want to hold it by whatever string/chain/etc it is attached to and then ask a question. If you’re asking yes/no I often like to put my palm under my pendulum to balance the energy more. Your pendulum will swing in a certain direction for yes and a certain direction for no, ask your pendulum which is which before doing divination with it!
Pendulums can also be used with a pendulum board to find names, numbers, etc. As well as finding lost objects, or guiding your way outside of your home.
Shufflemancy:
Origins of shufflemancy
Shufflemancy is the newest type of divination detailed in this post. Although I cannot find the exact origins, I would estimate it has not been very long since the origin of shufflemancy, and it likely came along with the creation of more advanced technology.
How to do shufflemancy
Begin by compiling a playlist of random songs. Make sure you have a wide-range of music, and many songs with many different meanings. This will most accurately give you answers.
Once this has been done, shuffle away! Press the shuffle button until you are content with the amount of times you’ve shuffled and look at the lyrics. Write down anything that stands out to you in these lyrics, and begin interpreting them in relation to your question.
Tarot
Origins of tarot
Tarot originates from a card game in Italy around the 1430s. This game added a 5th suite to the original 4 suite deck of cards (this 5th suite is now known as the major arcana). Divination with these cards became popular in the late 16th and 17th centuries, particularly in Europe around these times. In the 18th century, people had begun to assign specific meanings to each card.
How to do tarot
You will first want to acquire a tarot deck. Once you have done this, cleanse and bond with your deck before doing readings.
When doing readings shuffle your deck however you like. You can shuffle until it feels right and pull cards from the deck, or you can shuffle until cards fly out for you to take.
When you have gotten your cards that are associated with whatever question you are asking, you will interpret them. When interpreting tarot cards you can do it however you like to. Jump around, interpret in order, whatever it may be.
Tarot meanings:

Astral Projection
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
what is astral projection?
astral projection describes an out-of-body experience, referring to travel among the astral plane. these experiences are intentional, whether it be subconsciously or consciously.
what is the astral plane?
the astral plane is a plane of existence that is considered to be the realm of dreams and spirits. this is the plane in which spirits, demons, deities, etc etc exist as visible beings. this plane could also be referred to as the astral realm or the astral world.
what is the silver cord?
simply put, the silver cord connects your astral body to your physical body.
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
astral projection can have many dangers to a someone with a vulnerable mindset. it’s important to know these dangers so you can be prepared to protect yourself.
there are different vibrational planes in the astral realm, the most dangerous of which is the lower vibrational planes. these planes are where you’ll find lower vibrational beings such as energy vampires, demons, and other negative entities and beings. these low vibrational beings and interactions with them can leave you feeling down and depressed and often discourage people from astral projecting.
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
there are many, many ways to protect yourself in the astral realm! there’s lots of defenses for you to keep safe in the astral realm.
astral shields
astral shields are meant to protect anything from getting to up-close and personal with your physical body while you’re out exploring! these shields are essentially just a shield of light that’s made by intention and your own vibrational energy.
you can also make astral shields for your astral body if you ever have an encounter with a low-vibrational being and need to defend yourself.
astral weapons
these weapons are created in the same way that astral shields are, with intent and energy. let yourself feel positive emotions and then think of the type of weapon you’d like. it should then be conjured!
astral guardians
if you are ever in serious trouble, there are always astral guardians there to protect you. these consist of archangels (angels of the highest rank), guardian angels (angels meant to protect and guard you), spirit guides, friends (anyone who you may be astral projecting with or may have met in the astral realm), and astral familiars (creatures on the astral plane that you can ask to guard you)
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
there are plenty of ways you can choose to travel in the astral realm, all of which can be useful in different situations. it’s just a matter of choosing which one you’d like
walking
walking is the method of travel that you would be most used to, and may be the easiest for the first time projecting. when walking in the astral realm, you’ll follow what your mind knows. you may see stairs and walk up and down them, but they aren’t truly there and you don’t actually need to.
floating
floating is kind of like the baby step to flying. it’s the slowest form of travel within the astral realm.
flying
this is a common method of travel among those who astral project. it’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like. this is a faster method of moving and can easily get you across the world to different places.
teleporting
teleporting isn’t the easiest of the methods to get ahold of but it is the fastest. imagine where you’d like to go and teleport there. it may be difficult at first because it’s not something we can even get close to doing in our corporeal form.
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
yes, you can move through time in astral projection. you can do anything in the astral realm. in the astral realm you become a four-dimensional being instead of a three-dimensional being. four-dimensional beings are not bound by time and space, you can go anywhere, anytime. the best way to attempt time travel in the astral realm is the focus on that intent before astral projecting and project with the intent in mind. this is something that needs time, patience, and practice. just keep trying until you get it right!
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
in the astral realm, everything is just energy, right? so you can move through walls, doors, windows, etc. these objects may seem to be there, but they’re more like a picture of what’s in the three-dimensional realm.
 •─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
one huge misconception is that astral projection is your soul leaving your body, but it’s your consciousness, the consciousness is what makes up the astral body.
getting possessed
you CANNOT get possessed with astral projecting, like said before your soul does not leave your body and there isn’t a vacant place for something else to enter, as well as the fact that your body will likely be protected by your energy or that of guides or other entities. things may come sniffing around but they can’t do harm to your physical body.
getting lost/disconnecting from your body
you cant get lost in the astral realm no matter where you travel to. if you have intention to get back to your body, you will. anything is possible in the astral realm for you if you’d like it.
entities can sever the silver cord
the silver cord can ONLY be severed at the time of death for someone, so there’s no need to worry about entities severing that, they just can’t.
 •─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
similar to shifting, there isn’t one specific way to astral project, but the most common way is to do it early in the morning or late at night when you’re alone and it’s quiet. lay down and let yourself relax and grow calm. have the intention of astral projecting  and focus on it. once you’ve disconnected from your physical body you can either roll out, or just sit up. then your fun in the astral realm begins!
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
if you have any questions feel free to comment and i’ll answer to the best of my abilities <3

as the flowers bloom and the weather brightens, i am only reminded of my perpetual darkness.
my mind swirls at the new brightness, colors, attitudes, and yet i still find an emptiness inside of myself. a void that i cannot fill.
it consumes me every day as i search for the piece that will fit. there is none.
that piece was taken and destroyed during my childhood. smashed to pieces.
now i’m left to be a black hole, forever consuming the light of joy that surrounds me.

love is memories.
you don’t find it in a person when you look at them.
you don’t find it on their face or in their personality.
you find it in the things you grow to love.
you find it in the hardships one may face.
you find it in the bonds and ties you create with those around you.
you find it in the memories of the best and worst times.

Shadow Work
This post is about shadow work: what is it? how do you do it? what are some shadow work prompts? why is it important?
What is Shadow Work?
Shadow work is defined as the process of exploring aspects of yourself that you keep locked away or hidden in order to grow, heal, and learn.
What is your shadow self?
Your shadow self “dark side” of yourself. This side of yourself is the unconscious that your conscious does not identify in itself. Your shadow self holds your primitive, negative emotions. This can detail impulses like rage, envy, greed, desire, and other things largely considered as negative impulses.
How Do You Begin Shadow Work?
Shadow work, like many things, should be done in the way that is best for you. Shadow work can be done through many forms, and it’s up to you to experiment and find which are best for you. Below, I’ll list common ways to do shadow work.
1.)Journaling
Journaling is the most common way to do shadow work, as it helps you to record your progress and fully answer what your subconscious mind needs you to know so you can begin a healing process. With journaling, you can look back on your prompts and further delve into them, or look at what healing you need to do.
Journaling does not need to be done on paper. This is a form that can be done on paper, in a notes app, in a google doc, basically anything where you write things down. For journaling it is best to use prompts that focus on the subconscious issues you’d like to target. Later on in this post I will put my list of shadow work prompts in case you are in need of any.
2.) Divination
Divination can be a form of shadow work depending on what questions you are asking. If you choose to do shadow work through divination there are spreads and specific questions that I find work best.
The questions I would personally ask would be along the lines of the following:
-“What parts of myself do I need to focus on healing?”
-“What am I subconsciously keeping from myself that is holding back my healing process?”
-“How can I best work on healing [whatever you want to work on]?”
Shadow Work Spreads
Spread 1
Card 1: A card to represent me now.
Card 2: What shadow am I avoiding?
Card 3: What am I projecting in my relationships?
Card 4: Where am I holding myself back?
Card 5: How can I be kinder to myself while I learn?
Card 6: What can I look forward to for when I start getting to know my shadow?
Spread 2
Card 1: In what ways am I restricting myself?
Card 2: Why have I put these walls around me? What am I afraid of?
Card 3: How can I best work with or release my fears to free myself and grow into my potential?
Spread 3
Card 1: What shadow behavior is preventing me from moving forward right now?
Card 2: What work must I do to uncover and resolve that shadow behavior?
Card 3: What parts of my self must I be prepared to face in this work?
Those are just a few examples of the many shadow work spreads that are out there!
3.) Meditation
Meditation can be a wonderful step in the healing process and discovering the parts of yourself that you’ve repressed. There are plenty of meditations specifically for shadow work and releasing trauma if you just look around! This is also a good way to contact spirit guides and get help from them through your journey.

NSFW Pick-a-Pile
Hi! This is going to be a nsfw pick-a-pile. Please keep in mind that this is NSFW! If you are under the age of seventeen I am kindly (not so kindly) requesting that you click away. If it is discovered anyone under the age of seventeen has done this pick-a-pile, you will be blocked from this account.
Please keep in mind that this is tarot, but the majority of this will be done using things that I see or hear for the piles. Take what resonates, leave what doesn’t.
I will not list the things mentioned in this post but be warned it will be kinky.
Tumblr media
Seven of Wands Reversed, The Sun, The Devil, Two of Wands, The Magician, Three of Cups, Ten of Wands, Nine of Cups, Six of Swords, Five of Swords
Alright, pile one, starting us off strong on this pick-a-pile with the kinkiness. Your s/o wants to absolutely ruin you, there’s no doubt about it. They’re incredibly into overstimulation and they love the idea of your writhing underneath them while you’re tied up, begging them to stop (even if you want them to keep going) because it feels so good, but it’s too much.
It’s showing very much you being a tease and they love (and when I say they love I mean it) punishing you. Overstimulation and edging is a huge theme in this pile, although they definitely prefer overstimulation. I keep getting the image over and over of you on the bed with tears streaming down your face and you’re trying to get away from the stimulation because it’s too much and not enough at the same time for you.
Your s/o is someone who will take a lot of time in the first sexual encounters to get to know what gets you going. They’ll spend their time experimenting because with the pain of overstimulation and punishments, they’ll make sure you get everything you’ve ever wanted out of sex.
Your s/o gives major brat tamer vibes, and they’re definitely the more dominant one in this relationship. They will make sure you learn your lessons for misbehaving, and they will make sure you learn it well. They do well at restraining their own desire to make sure that you are thoroughly worshiped (or punished).
There’s also an element to this relationship where you partner wants to see other people fuck you, enjoying the fact that only they can make you feel as good as they make you feel, knowing they’ll always be the best at giving you orgasms.
At the end of every sexual encounter, they’ll be sure that you’ve gotten pleasure from it, and they’ll be even more sure that you’ll come crawling back for more soon.
Aftercare with your s/o will be very, very soft. Despite the sex being intense, aftercare will consist of soft words of affirmations and praises. “You did so good for me.”; “You’re so perfect.”; “I love you so much.” After everyone is cleaned up, it’ll be soft and comfortable and happy.
What I Saw:
-Your s/o has you pinned against a wall, kissing down your neck to tease you the same way you’ve done them, but they’re not giving you exactly what you want, instead deciding to suck hickeys along your collarbone and chest, wanting you to beg for what you’re wanting instead of just immediately giving it to you.
-You slotted between your s/o legs and they run their hands up and down your body, slightly tickling your sides, just to watch you squirm and arch away from their hands.
-In public, their hand resting on your thigh as they gently trace circles with their thumb.
-Their hand gently rests around your throat, putting a light pressure there before tracing their fingers down to your navel.
“You look so pretty tied up like this for me.”
“I love watching you cum for me.”
“You should have thought about the consequences before you were a brat.”
“Don’t whine, I could be a lot more mean if I wanted to.”
Pile Two
The Lovers, Six of Pentacles, Six of Wands, Judgment Reversed, Five of Pentacles, Two of Pentacles, Nine of Pentacles, Eight of Pentacles, Ace of Cups, Four of Swords
Alright pile two, let’s get into it.
It seems in this partnership that your partner is the submissive or is a switch with more submissive tendencies. I’m not even gonna try to ease into this one. Public sex. Your partner loves the idea of having other people watch them be torn apart by you. They love the idea that they belong to you and to you only. They also love the idea of semi-public sex, the thrill of getting caught dialing their senses to a hundred. While they’re a sub, they want to give you everything. They will work for any pleasure that they want to receive and they will work hard for it.
Your partner is someone who would follow your every order if you asked them to because all they want is to please you and make you feel as good as you make them feel.
When the sex is private, it seems to have the tendency to lean towards soft and loving. There’s soft praises and hand-holding. It isn’t rough or degrading like it is when it is front of others or semi-public.
They like when you tease them, knowing that you have complete and total power of them and their body during sexual encounters. They love when you run your hands up and down your legs or when you touch them just enough to make them feel something, but not enough to make them cum.
Aftercare for this relationship is all about affirming how much you love them and letting them cuddle into you.
What I Saw:
-Them on their knees with you holding your hand threaded through their hair, pulling them to look at them in the eyes.
-Them under you as you press soft kisses to their neck and face, praising them for what a good job they’re doing for you
-Them sat on the bed waiting for you to give them an order of something to do
“Please I’ll be good for you.”
Lots and lots and lots of tiny whimpers and moans with a soft “please” thrown in here and there
“I’m yours and only yours, I promise.”
Pile Three
Queen of Cups, Page of Swords, King of Pentacles, Eight of Swords, Seven of Cups, Five of cups, Queen of Wands, Death, Three of Pentacles, Queen of Pentacles, Queen of Swords, Ace of Wands
Let’s jump right in. Pile three your s/o gives major switch vibes. They love the idea of edging whether it’s receiving it or edging you. They like to see you squirm underneath them while you beg them to let you cum, and when receiving it they enjoy watching the way you coo at them when you’ve edged them so much that you can’t form a proper sentence. They love to worship you, leaving kisses and hickeys all over your body to let everyone know that you are theirs to fuck. The STAMINA that this person has is absolutely incredible. They could go for multiple rounds, and you’ll likely get tired before they’re even close to being done with you.
Your s/o likes to see you sweaty and panting underneath them, and they’ll take the time to admire the work they did at fucking you dumb.
This is someone who when they’re on top they will have you tell them every dirty fantasy you have about them so that they can play them out for you. They like to watch the way that you stumble over your words in asking for things from them, as it gives them a sense of power. Hearing all the things you think about them doing to you boosts their ego and they are happy to oblige in any fantasy that you have, as long as you tell them every dirty little detail.
They love to see you tied up below them, squirming and pleading for any sort of stimulation that you’re willing to give them. Similarly, they like to be the one in that situation, begging and whining for you as you tease them for hours.
Your s/o honestly enjoys being edged and then not being allowed to have their orgasm for the night or week or however long it is, the sexual frustration making it so much better when you do finally allow them to cum for you.
They like when you go against their rules because they enjoy punishing you, and they like to go against yours for the sole reason of being punished.
Aftercare with this s/o is always straight to the point. Clean up, affirm each other that you love each other, and then sleep.
What I Saw:
-Them fucking you doggy with their hand around your throat keeping your head up, and they’re whispering all the things they want to do to you in your ear and they do.
-You using them to make yourself cum, but not letting them cum. They’re crying beneath you begging you to let them.
-Their hands tied to the bedpost as they squirm and try to get more stimulation and you refusing to give into their pleading eyes and soft whining.
-Your s/o softly cupping your face with a fake sympathy in their eyes as they fuck you.
“Please, please, let me cum. I’ll do anything, I’m sorry.”
“Tell me what you want.”
“Look at you stuttering, I’ve fucked you dumb.”
Pile Four
Five of Swords, Nine of Cups, The Sun, Eight of Wands, Six of Cups, Three of Cups Reversed, The Fool, Ace of Wands, Ten of Cups Reversed, Queen of Pentacles, Seven of Cups, Nine of Wands, Ace of Cups
Pile four, I introduce you to your reading. Your s/o is big on experimenting, and they plan to do so if you’re comfortable. They want to find out your likes and dislikes with sex, just to makes sure that you get the best out of the experience. They are incredibly possessive and want you all to themselves. They will leave marks all over you just to let everyone know who you belong to and they will do so very, very proudly.
Your s/o gives very soft dom vibes. They have rules, but when you break them it won’t be harsh and degrading. It will be a soft punishment in which you’ll learn your lesson while being praised along the way. They have the energy to put up with your bratty attitude for as long as it’s around, although the energy and patience will slowly begin to dissipate until they have you bent over their knee spanking you for the bratty attitude.
They like to have an ever-changing dynamic with you, always finding something new to try with you.
This s/o isn’t entirely sure what they want in a sexual relationship, other than to try new things and to make sure that both of you are satisfied with the results.
The aftercare with this s/o will always be the softest and sweetest aftercare that you can receive. Soft kisses, warm baths, and cuddles under comfy blankets until the two of you fall asleep in each other’s arms.
What I Saw:
-You over their knee as they spank you and whisper soft words of affirmations on how good you’re doing and how there’s only a couple more to go.
-Them pushing your hair out of your face when it’s fallen over your eyes before giving you a soft kiss on the lips.
“Is this okay?”
“Just a few more, I promise.”
“You did so, so good.”

Cleansing and Protection
This post will detail when you should cleanse, ways to cleanse, and the important of cleansing. It will also detail ways to protect yourself and cast protection and why these things are important before engaging in many spiritual activities and rituals.
What is cleansing?
Cleansing is the action of clearing negative energy, entities, or beings from an area, tools, etc.
Why is cleansing important?
Cleansing is important for many reasons.
Within divination cleansing is important to keep your tools accurate and safe from trickster spirits and negative entities/beings.
In other aspects of your life, cleansing is important for feeling good and keeping yourself safe.
What are some ways you can cleanse?
There are many, many ways you can cleanse. I will list and explain a few of the most common ways, but always feel free to research or create your own ways to cleanse.
Candles
Candles are a good way to cleanse for people who don’t have incense or other cleansing items, since candles are a common household item. With candles you will set the intention that a candle is for cleansing/banishment/protection and when you light it, it will help to cleanse your area and your divination tools.
Crystals
Crystals are a wonderful way to cleanse by carrying them around or even just setting them with whatever item you are attempting to cleanse. The vibrations crystals give off cleanse and help to restore positive energy.
Incense
Incense is a common and amazing way to cleanse. with incense cleansing you just light an incense cone or incense stick and let it burn. Lots of times it helps to run divination tools through the smoke, but it is not needed. Incense tends to cleanse a large amount of things at one time considering that the smoke touches lots of objects when incense is burning.
Knocking
One way to cleanse is knocking. This type of cleansing is often used on tarot and oracle decks to easily cleanse between questions to make sure that your deck doesn’t collect lots of negative energy. This is good way for short-term cleansing and often a convenient way to cleanse when you don’t have anything to cleanse with.
Salt
Salt is used to cleanse and protect in many ways. Salt is a substance that you can easily use to cleanse your objects and keep yourself safe.
Sigils
Making cleansing sigils is a good way to cleanse specific items. sigils are generally very easy to make and are a good way to cleanse things that you can cleanse with smoke, knocking, etc.
Sound
Sound is a quick and easy way to cleanse! You can cleanse through certain audios or vibrations or even just music you enjoy that has a positive connotation to you!
What is protection?
Protection is a way to keep away negative energies and beings and to keep you safe and happy!
How can you protect yourself?
Many forms of protection are also forms of cleansing! so look at the list above!
Another way to protect yourself is by making protection sigils or setting wards!

the three fold law
╰━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━━✶━━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━╯
what is it?
the three fold law is a wiccan practitioners rule that states the energy that a person puts out into the world will be returned to that person three times. the three fold law (or the rule of threes) is a major warning when practicing magick, particularly baneful magic, as that energy would be returned, but it can also just speak to rude or mean actions in the world that will return to that person with three times the intensity. the three fold law can also be interpreted as energy returning to a person on three separate occasions, for example negative energy could be a car wreck one day, spilling your morning coffee another, and just a bad day on another.
•┈┈┈••✦ ┈┈┈✦••┈┈┈•
╭━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━━✶━━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━╮
origins
╰━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━━✶━━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━╯
the origins of the three fold law aren’t exactly clear, but they are generally traced back to gerald gardener’s novel “high magic’s aid”. the novel was fictional, but later on wiccans began to weave it into their craft and make the three fold law a widespread idea. raymond buckland is one of the most notable people to make this law widespread and well-known.
•┈┈┈••✦ ┈┈┈✦••┈┈┈•
╭━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━━✶━━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━╮
outro
╰━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━━✶━━ ⋅𖥔⋅ ━╯
many wiccans who have practiced baneful magick have said that it hasn’t come back to them, but others said that it is. the threefold law is generally just a reminder that karma exists and it will come back to you depending on the energy you put out into the world.
i know this post is short, but i didnt have anything else to say here akdjlagkdj

Evil Eye
nazar eye
what is it?
the nazar eye (commonly referred to as the evil eye) is a belief/tradition that is incredibly ancient. it occured in ancient greece and rome, and in jewish, islamic, buddhist, indigenous, and hindu traditions, as well as among peasants and other folk societies.
while people commonly refer to the nazar eye as an evil eye, it is actually protection against the evil eye.
evil eye
what is it?
the evil eye is said to be a look given to inflict harm, suffering, or something bad to happen to those it is cast upon. the evil eye can be casted intentionally or by accident. most of the time, the evil eye is casted by feelings of malice or envy from the caster to those they cast it upon.
origins
the evil eye dates back around 3,000 years ago to ancient greece and rome. in these ancient places, it was believed that the evil eye was the most threatening to those who were praised too much, mostly for prosperity and looks. it was said if you were praised too much you would become swollen with pride and doom themselves with an evil eye upon, which could cause physical or mental illness. they thought then that it was the gods and goddesses punishing those who had become too proud of their achievements.
even then, the evil eye has been common all around the world. islamic culture says that excessive praise will bring about the ill effects of the evil eye. hinduism says that it’s the most powerful point a body can give off energy. hindus believe jealousy is the root of power from the evil eye, instead of pride. in europe, it was said that envious or malicious looks could cause it, although they believed the largest source of the evil eye was witches.
how can you protect yourself against it?
nazar eye amulets are the main form of protection people use for the evil eye, and greeks would carry incense or the cross as protection.

MEDITATION
what is it?
meditation is a practice that many people do, spiritual or not. meditation can be anything that is considered the practice of mindfulness, such as focusing on a particular thought, object, or activity.
❀°•∘ɷ∘•°❀ ... ❀°•∘ɷ∘•°❀ ... ❀°•∘ɷ∘•°❀
HOW TO MEDITATE
guided meditation
guided meditation is an easy type of meditation that you can find on youtube or other streaming sites. these types of meditations are very good for beginners as they help to give a structure to meditation, especially if it’s something you’ve never done before. all you do is turn one on, get comfy and follow the instructions of the creator of the video.
unguided meditations to music or in silence
these meditations can be good for those who need to only hear their own thoughts or for those who are meditating to get into contact with entities. this type of meditation is usually done to theta waves or other calming music without words.
my personal method of meditation this way is to take deep breaths and slowly focus on whatever my intention for meditation is. then i begin affirming or reaching out to my entities that i’m contacting.
coloring
this is a type of meditation not often recognized, but it can be very calming and help to focus your intent onto something. like stated previously, meditation is any activity where you focus on a thought, object, or activity. with coloring you can focus on this active and have time to think.
movement
movement can also be a type of meditation. things like yogi and tai chi are easy type of meditation to help calm the mind. these help to focus on yourself and the activity at hand.
❀°•∘ɷ∘•°❀ ... ❀°•∘ɷ∘•°❀ ... ❀°•∘ɷ∘•°❀
BENEFITS OF MEDITATION
∘helps to better focus and concentration in every day life
∘helps to control physical and mental pain
∘reduces stress and depression
∘improves self-awareness
∘improves self-esteem
∘helps fight addictions
MANIFESTATION
what is it?
manifestation is the act of attracting things into your life through attraction and belief. you can bring things you wish into your life through thoughts, actions, beliefs, and emotions.
❀°•∘ɷ∘•°❀ ... ❀°•∘ɷ∘•°❀ ... ❀°•∘ɷ∘•°❀
HOW TO MANIFEST
there are many methods to manifest and you should do whichever works best for you.
369 method
there are two ways that people do the 369 method. the first way is to write the affirmation you wish to write three times in the morning, then six times in the afternoon, and then nine times at night until the thing you’ve manifested comes into your life.
the second method is to write what exactly you are manifesting three times, write your intention six times, and then write your affirmation nine times.
writing letters to the universe
writing letters to the universe is an easy and fun way to manifest. here you just write to the universe expressing what you’re wanting to manifest and how you’re ready for it, as well as the actions you yourself will take to get it.
write affirmations repeatedly
writing an affirmation over and over with the intent of that coming to truth is an easy way to manifest.
example:
”i have shifted.”
”i have shifted.”
”i have shifted.”
“i have shifted.”
”i have shifted.”
”i have shifted.”
”i have shifted.”
“i have shifted.”
”i have shifted.”
”i have shifted.”
55x5 method
for this method you’ll write your affirmation fifty-five times in a row for five days.

Pick A Pile: Messages From Apollo
Tumblr media
Pile One
six of wands, page of pentacles, king of pentacles, seven of pentacles, eight of wands, six of pentacles, ace of cups
alrighty pile one, let's get started. you are such a generous and king person even if you don't realize it, and you really help the people around you to feel good and be happy. while you do an amazing job at making others feel good, you are constantly putting yourself down and bringing negative energy upon yourself, even if it's just subconsciously. you are worth so much more than you're giving yourself credit for, and it's time to step into who you are truly meant to be and give yourself the good that you give to others. take some time to find yourself, find what you love and who you WANT to be, and then work towards becoming that person and finding yourself in that place in life. in this journey to finding happiness and self-love in your life, you may find some difficulties, but you are strong enough to push through the tough times and come out the other side better and happier. you may also find yourself discovering new emotions, or old emotions resurfacing, don't fear them. embrace them. in this journey to finding what you want for yourself, you're going to have to revisit the past and work through the things that have hurt you. at the end of the journey, you will find yourself in a safe and comforting place where you are happy and content.
"take your time and focus on your goal."
a song that may resonate with pile one: savior complex by phoebe bridgers
emotional affair/overly sincere/smoking in the car, windows up/crocodile tears, run the tap 'til it's clear/drift off on the floor/I drag you to the shore/sweating through the sheets/you're gonna drown in your sleep, for sure/wake up and start a big fire/in our one room apartment/but I'm too tired/to have a pissing contest/all the bad dreams that you hide/show me yours, I'll show you mine, I'm a bad liar with a savior complex/all the skeletons you hide/show me yours, and I'll show you mine
Pile Two
ten of wands, ace of wands, queen of wands reversed, six of cups, temperance, four of pentacles, the empress
pile two, you need to start TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF. there is so much good in you and so much about you that is amazing, but your'e ignoring it in favor of listening to all the negative comments that people who envy you have said. you're going through a lot, or have gone through a lot, and it's been a huge burden that was put on your shoulders. it's likely that you grew up really fast because of whatever you've gone through and now you're struggling to keep your flame of passion and energy lit. you've been taking this out on yourself, as if your traumas and struggles are completely on you and entirely your fault, when in reality that isn't true. you need to revisit these memories to help yourself see that you are not at fault for every single thing wrong in your life, and that you are not always the person that is to blame for something. take some time and do some things like self-love affirmations or meditations to help you. you've got to find a way to balance those emotions so that you can continue your life on a healthy path instead of the way you're living it now. it may be a good time to try and find a creative outlet that you truly enjoy, something like writing, singing, reading, drawing, ect. ect. in the end these things will help your relight that light that's been dimming throughout your life.
"tap into your creative outlet and find your passion again."
a song that may resonate with pile two: new person, same old mistake by tame impala
i can just hear them now/"how could you let us down?"/two sides of me can't agree/will I be in too deep?/going with what i always longed for/feel like a brand new person/but you'll make the same old mistakes/i know you don't think it's right/i know you think it's fake/maybe fake's what i like/ the point is, i have the right/ not thinking in black and white/i'm thinking it's worth the fight/but you've got demons, and she's got her regrets
Pile Three
eight of swords, king of cups, three of cups, knight of cups, five of swords, the hanged one ten of pentacles, two of wands reversed
pile three, it seems you are all feeling a bit lost right now. you’re in a constant argument with yourself over what to do, where to go, how to feel, etc. you’re playing it safe in life and you’re avoiding taking any kind of risks, and it’s leaving you alone and trapped in a mindset that is not healthy for you. take a step outside your comfort zone and start looking at things a new way, a way that is healthier for you. you should also start confiding in your friends and your loved ones about your issues or your worries, no matter how big or small. these people can give you advice and an outside perspective about things going on in your life, a perspective that will help you to better yourself. this new and positive environment that you’ll be creating for yourself will leave you feeling like you’re in a stable place in life, a place where you are happy and safe. remember that you are powerful and you can do anything you’d like to if you put your mind to it. you’ll find your home and your family, and you won’t be lost, you’ve just got to put some effort into it.
“home isn’t always a place”
a song that may resonate with like three: tolerate it by taylor swift
i wait by the door like i’m just a kid/ use my best colors for your portrait/lay the table with the fancy shit/and watch you tolerate it/if it’s all in my head, tell me now/ tell me i’ve got it wrong somehow/i know my love should be celebrated/but you tolerate it, drawing hearts in the byline/always taking up too much space or time/you assume i’m fine, but what would you do if i break free and leave us in ruins?/took this dagger in me and removed it?/gain the weight of you then lose it/ believe me, i could do it

Greek Mythology: Creation
intro
the reason greek mythology is so recognizable is it’s the mythology as have the most information on. greeks kept many written records of their stories of the gods and goddesses that were close enough to modern times for us to translate the records of mythology through them. (which is incredibly lucky considering how many pantheons have so much mythology that we’ve lost)
small disclaimer
i am obviously not a professional in mythology at all, and i may be missing various iterations of stories. i am going off of what i have been able to read from various mythology books and pdf books. if you have anything you’d like to add that you know of, please feel free. i’m always open to learning more 😩
the beginning
greek creation has many iterations, as do many myths and legends from around the world. this is due to these stories being passed through families by word and/or different translations of stories. despite this, many of the creation stories for this pantheon are similar and don’t stray far from each other.
every version of greek mythology that i have read has started with Chaos. this is the formless and empty void that existed before any titans, gods, etc. from this starting point, the story may stray depending on where you’re reading it from.
in the most common version of greek creation, Gaea (Gaia, this spelling also depends on where you’re reading it from as the two are interchangeable), earth, is born from Chaos. nice Gaea, Uranus, the sky, rose. Gaea looks up towards Uranus and falls in love with him.
some versions of the story follow the previous, but instead of Uranus also being born from Chaos, he is birthed by Gaea. in these versions she also gives birth to Ourea (the mountains) and Pontus (the sea).
in other versions of creation, Nyx, the goddess of night, is the first being to spawn from Chaos. she lays a golden egg, and when it hatched Eros, the god of love, came out. the egg split into two halves, one half becoming Gaea, and the other becoming Uranus. Eros makes the two fall in love.
Gaea and Uranus
the next chunk of the greek creation story revolves around Gaea and Uranus. they give birth to (a mildly alarming amount of) children, all unique in their own way.
the first twelve children were the titans: Theia, Rhea, Themis, Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Thethys, Oceanus, Coeus, Crius, Hyperion, Iapetus, and Cronus. the next three children were the cyclopes named Brontes, Steropes, and Arges. Finally, she had the three hecatoncheires named Cottus, Briareos, and Gyges.
Uranus was disgusted by the hecatoncheires. in one version of the story he flings them and the cyclopes to Tartarus, while in another he shoves the hecatoncheires back into Gaea’s womb.
in both versions, Gaea is furious at Uranus for what he had done, and she calls upon her children for help to stand up to their father by throwing a sickle to them. Cronus (the youngest) took the sickle his mother made. Cronus uses it to cut off Uranus’s genitalia and throw it into the sea.
from the sea foam that is created, Aphrodite is born, and from the blood of Uranus’s genitalia the Furies are born.
before i move on i’m adding the small info that in some versions of greek mythology Gaea also gives birth to the Fates.
Cronus and Rhea
after conquering Uranus, Cronus takes power over the titans. he marries his sister, Rhea.
in one version, Cronus is given a prophecy saying that one of his children would overthrow him in the same way he did to his father. in another, Gaea becomes angry with Cronus because he did not set her children free after he began to rule and she waits for a child of his to be strong enough to overthrow him.
Cronus and Rhea give birth to Demeter, Hestia, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon.
both of these lead the Cronus swallowing his children whole as Rhea births them, hoping to prevent his downfall.
Rhea becomes pregnant again with Zeus. she gives birth to him in private, sending him off the Crete. to make sure Cronus didn’t notice the absence of a child, Rhea swaddles a stone and Cronus swallows it.
Zeus grows up on Crete and when he reaches maturity, he goes to confront Cronus. he tricks his father into drinking a potion that makes him vomit up all of the children he had swallowed.
Gods Vs Titans
Zeus frees Gaea’s children from Tartarus, and as thanks they agree to help him and the other gods fight against the titans.
the cyclopes forge three items for the brother gods. a helm of invisibility for Hades, a trident for Poseidon, and a lightning bolt for Zeus.
the gods were also aided in their battle by two titans who had sided with them, Themis and her son, Prometheus.
the war between the gods and the titans lasted for ten years, ending in a victory for the gods. the titans were sent to Tartarus, excluding Atlas (a titan who was not one of the original titans) who was punished by being forced to hold up the world for eternity.

How To Research
starting topic
your first step in researching is to pick a starting topic. i’m calling this your starting topic in case you’re like me and get side-tracked.
if you’re able to focus on one topic without delving further into things you find within that topic, stick to it.
my personal method is to begin by picking a broad topic, for this example i’ll just use deities. if you were to research a deity, you’d find connection to other deities, maybe even other pantheons. you may also find connection to historical events, and in spirituality it is important to make sure you know things before jumping into them.
all of that being said, let’s talk research.
begin looking for sources
now you’ve got your topic, let’s look for sources. what’s reliable?
im going to be real for a second, the internet is not an awful source of information, the issue is that no one knows how to find the things that are true. unlike published books, the internet allows for anyone to write on topics and easily get them out to the world, whether they’re giving real information or just spewing bullshit. so when using the internet you have to be careful.
google is not a reliable source. i’m sure everyone has heard their english teachers say this, but it’s true. anyone can alter the google pages pretty easily, and a lot of misinformation is spread through this. similar to google, blogs can be created and accessed by anyone, so the usual trick is the same as they teach you in school, anything ending in “.com” probably isn’t trustworthy.
another thing you can do is look into whoever is writing what you’re reading. do they have credentials? if not then you should probably click away.
this isn’t to say that all “.com” sites are bad, or that all people writing blogs that don’t have credentials are spreading misinformation, but it’s not going to be your most reliable and trustworthy source of information.
books, on the other hand, are usually incredibly reliable. this is because publishing a book isn’t as easy as uploading to the internet because it can be difficult to find editors, publishers, etc. it also costs money to make prints of books, which a lot of people who are spreading misinformation don’t care to do.
still, i recommend looking into all the authors of books you look for.
there are also a lot of pdf books that you can find through spiritual communities on amino, tumblr, and discord. you can even find pdf books of older spiritual books that may have set the precedent for some of todays references (ex. i found a pdf of “transcendental magic it’s doctrine and ritual” by éliphas lévi which is referenced in many books about baphomet).
cross-referencing
another way to make sure that you are getting accurate information is to use multiple sources. please for the love of everything do not use one source for all of your information, it will not work out well for you.
with cross-referencing i find the easiest thing to do is to take notes on books im reading by the title of the book, and then when i read a book about the same topic, i compare the notes to find commonalities, or to find things that a different that i need to look into even more. i personally like to do this with at least 5 sources per topic because i’m paranoid and like to be thorough 😍
upg vs spg
an important part of research, especially in a lot of spiritual things, is to recognize the difference between upg and spg.
upg and spg are two common terms to describe people’s experiences, most often with deities. upg stands for “unverified personal gnosis”, which is when someone is sharing experiences that are applicable to them, but you’ll find that it may not be accurate to you or anyone else you know. spg stands for “shared personal gnosis”, which is experiences that groups of multiple people have had.
you may also find that spg experiences are not always backed up by mythos or facts you’ve heard about spirits, and could just be a common occurrence between people.
how to take notes
this is another thing that i see a lot of people struggle with. taking notes can be super difficult, especially if you aren’t sure how to organize them.
if you’re using google docs or another website to take notes, i suggest beginning with an overall heading and then breaking up your topic into sections. (what is it? how do you do it? where did it originate from?). i’ve also very recently found that color coding my notes helps, so i’ll begin with an overall topic and then other topic that i research that are mentioned, i’ll place a header down for and then in my notes when i run across the header for the section on the other thing, i highlight it with the same color i’d highlight the header as.
i really hope that all made sense
personally, i find taking spiritual notes can be a bit hard when they’re handwritten (despite the fact that i take them handwritten and then transfer them over to a google doc HSKGLLG). there aren’t many easy ways to organize a topic and be sure that you’re done with your notes on it. the best thing ive found to do is to begin with the header, highlight things as you go to go back and research and keep going till you’ve finished your source, then write the source at the bottom so you can cross-reference it.
i also really like using happy planner notebooks for my spiritual research. my mythology teacher showed them to me and they’re really amazing because you can remove the notebook pages and place them back in without ruining your notebook, which means you can take notes on separate pages and then move them to where they need to be as you go. you can also order more paper or a hole puncher for when you run out of pages to write on, and if your notebook gets too large, you can even buy larger rings to attach it to.
when actually taking your notes, it’s easier and more efficient if you don’t write the whole sentence, even when researching on your own time. again guys, i’m saying a lot of things you’ll hear teachers at school say because they’re mostly right about how to take notes and find sources.
the best way to take them is to use keywords. try to stick to names, dates, etc. not every word needs to be in your notes. this even applies to when you’re taking notes on a topic that isn’t particularly relevant or important.
outro
i hope this helps you all take some notes and research on your own 😩

Small Writing
my entire body is alert as his fingers brush over mine. i try not to acknowledge his antics while i keep reading the paper-back book resting in my hands. he huffs when i don’t immediately give into him and put down my book. he seems to decide subtlety isn’t the answer as his hand covers the words my eyes were scanning and he gently yanks the book out of my hands.
his eyes sparkle mischievously as i turn to meet his gaze, a small smile painted on his face. i waste no more time with pretending i haven’t missed him in the time we haven’t had to spend together, the clock ticks flying by as they travel at supersonic speed.
my arms wrap around his torso and i find myself embraced fully in him. in all that he is. we are equally broken, equally torn, and equally in love with each other. all the stabbing pains of feeling unseen subside as he says he’s missed me before kissing the top of my head. i parrot his words back to him, but when i speak it’s entirely muffled.
he chuckles, the laugh making his chest shake and i start laughing too. somehow, we found ourselves in each other, and learned to love everything we used to despise.
finally, i lift my head to meet his gaze again.
“im so in love with you,” i say.
“darling, you are my universe, too,” he replies.

Romance Poetry
blood rushes through my veins, electrifying every feeling in my body.
my heart hammers heavy in my chest, a constant sound. thump. thump. thump.
my whole body vibrates with a feeling that i don’t fully understand. i can’t help but fidget with my clothes, my hands, my hair. i can’t help but bounce up and down on the balls of my feet.
her eyes pierce my soul, a feat that no one has accomplished before. she saw into my deepest, darkest pieces and she wanted to know more. she wanted to dig every piece of knowledge about me out and study it. she wanted to know me fully.
i want the same. i want to see into every part of her soul and continue to love her for all her darkness and all her light.
i want the weight of her world on my shoulders. i’ll be atlas for her.
i want her impossible challenges to face. i will take the burden of continuously rolling that rock up the hill, her sisyphus.
i want to walk her to the edge of this infinite universe, and beyond. i will carry her when her feet get tired.
i want to love the unlovable because with her it is nothing. if she wished to burn earth to the ground, i would be buying the matches.
her soul and mine are wrapped around each other for eternity. our love for each other immortal, impenetrable. it has no achilles’s heel.
we are both puzzles missing pieces that may never be found, but what is love if not forever searching and forever trying? i will check everywhere. i’ll search through all the homes, all the cities, all the continents. i’ll fly myself to mars, to venus, to pluto, even.
and, my gods, if i could stop time just to be with her, i would. we could spend forever suspended in moments alone with the other, moments where we can be ourselves, moments we can be happy.
i’ll take her every place i could ever think of. we’ll visit every state she wants to go to. we’ll tour europe, visiting every beautiful destination she wants to go. we’ll see all the catacombs, all the towers, all the buildings, all the beautiful that remains in this world. everywhere, anywhere.
if anything were ever to happen to her, i would travel all of the underworld to rescue her. i would refuse to turn back until i am sure that my eurydice is behind me. i would send a thousand ships for her. i would face all of the trials of heracles.
she is my world. a complex and incredibly marvelous being. she’s an ethereal beauty who no other human could think to rival.

familiars
familiars are beings that assist those who practice magick. the idea of familiars has been around for a long, long time, though they are mostly associated with 16th-17th europe, but they have roots all the way back to the paleolithic and neolithic concepts. this is found in cave art depicting scenes that are thought to represent magical themes. many of these ancient animals became popular animals for familiar spirits, which indicates that it may be ancient traditions and practices surviving through generations. it’s also seen that many familiar spirits are associated with animals of pagan deities.
most of the modern-world ideas of witchcraft stem from europe after this rise of christianity, and familiar spirits are no different. in 1233 pope gregory ix issued a decree declaring that cats are associated with witchcraft, which caused a mass killing of cats in europe. this purge of the furry creatures led to a rise in europe’s population of rats, which eventually helped to spread the black plague (1347) around europe. cats are often thought to be a similar energy as women, which is why they became such a prominent depiction of familiar spirits. in 1318 pope john xxii sent nine alleged witches to be be prosecuted for a multiple magical practices. in 1563 queen elizabeth issued a witchcraft statute that created a penalty for anyone who is found guilty of conjuring “evil and wicked spirits”.
in the witchcraft trials in europe, “familiar” was often interchanged with words like “imp”, “demon”, or “devil”. it was believed that these spirits sought after witches and attached themselves to them. the witch was then thought to have no choice but to keep the spirit. it was also thought that familiars had names and that the witches did not choose them.
the lore surrounding familiars indicates that witches receive a familiar spirit once they are initiated into the witches’ sect.
one common thing in literature involving familiars is them taking transporting their witch to the sabbat.
a familiar can choose you, or you can choose a familiar. when going about choosing a familiar, many witches use natural affinity. they wait until they find an animal they are drawn to, using their intuition to choose. some, on the other hand, do a journey quest through the astral plane for their familiar.
familiars being sentient beings, they may display inappropriate or unacceptable behavior (by human standards) on some occasions. as time passes in a relationship between a familiar and a witch, it’s likely that the familiar will grow independent and be less compliant. one way to fix this issue is by using seals.
the genesis seal creates a link for a familiar with the material realm. the snake represents the cycle of rebirth. the spirals represent the power of transformation. the number three represents the forces that bring manifestation: time, place, and energy.
the seal of calling is used to evoke/invoke/summon your familiar spirit. the cloud represents manifestation of spiritual forces. the spirals represent the portals to the otherworld. the hand represents the opening of a magical portal.
the seal of departing will send your familiar back to the otherworld. the cave pictured represents the gates to the underworld. the three spirals symbolize transformation. three is the number of manifestations. the fourth stars represent north, east, south, and west respectively.
the seal of protection is to call upon the protective power of your familiar.
philosophy
philosophy is often considered the science of estimating values. it is used to arrange things into order of priority. the mission of philosophy (a priori) is to establish a connection or relation between the visible world to the invisible world, as well as to find the ultimate cause or nature of events or things.
many philosophers have defined philosophy as many different things, so below are some of the most famous definitions of philosophy.
”the science of things divine and human, and of the causes in which they are contained” -cicero
cicero states that philosophy is to study humanity and it’s connection to the divine sources, as well as to establish a reasoning to our containment in corporal forms.
”the science of effect by their causes” -hobbes
this one is pretty self explanatory. hobbes is defining philosophical as cause and effect and the study of them.
”the science of things evidently deduced from the first principles” -descartes
descartes is defining philosophy as the study of things that originate from the divine, often being the first things to thought to have been conceived. many of these first principles revolve around the elements.
”the science of truths, sensible and abstract” - de condillac
here, we have it defined as the study of truth. this truth can be logical or reasonable, like how nature works or it’s components, or even how the soul was created. anything that could be deduced to be a truth.
philosophy is often categorized under six generalized headings which may be broken down further.
the first topic falling under philosophy is metaphysics. this is what is often associated with the study, as it is dealing with abstract, unknown topics, and things outside of the reach of human knowledge.
next is logic. logic is what helps to keep philosophy balanced in its ideas and keeps insane ideas that make no sense being thrown out. these laws that govern our rational thinking are often referred to as the “doctrine of fallacies”.
ethics is the science of morality, individual responsibility, and character. this is where philosophy begins to sink into good vs evil, what is morally incorrect, etc. ethics is concerned primarily with the nature of being good.
psychology is the study of mental phenomena.
epistemology is the science of the nature of knowledge and the question is whether it exists in an “absolute form”.
asthetics is the science of the nature of and the reactions that are “awakened” by beauty.
the ideal function of philosophy is to serve as the stabilizing influence in human thought.
there are many schools of philosophy, although few are known to the common public. the ionic school was founded by thales who believed the primal element to be water and the earth to float upon it. he died in 546 b.c., passing the school onto his student, anaximander. he believed infinity made up all things. his successor, anaximenes, asserted air to be the first element of the universe, thinking even the god(s) were made of it. archelaus, another member of the ionic school, thought all things to be twofold. mind and air, resulting in fire and water. heraclitus, who is sometimes grouped with the ionic school, believed the primal element of the world to be fire, and that the world would eventually be consumed back into flame.
pythagoras of samos founded the pythagorean school. he thought math to be sacred. anyone who came to learn from pythagoras was to learn arthimetic, music, astronomy, and geometry. he was among the first to establish a community where everyone was of equal use. archytas, a member of the pythagorean school, is credited with the invention of the screw and the crane. he declared pleasure as a disease, and believed that a man who does no deceive is “as rare as a fish without bones”.
the eleatic sect was founded by xenophanes. he believed all things to be eternal, and thought the world to have no beginning and no end. to him, everything could be corrupted. leucippus said the universe to be one part full, and one part vacuum. democritus agreed with this atomic theory, but expanded upon it with his own thought. he said the principle of all things was atoms and vacuum. he believed the soul was an atomic structure and could die with our bodies. he thought the mind to be made of spiritual atoms.
cryptids
a cryptid is defined as an animal that has been claimed to exist, but we have no proof of.
the australian big cat (briagolong tiger, jamberoo tiger, kingstown killer, nightgrowler, tanjil terror, etc.) they are said to be nocturnal animals, even becoming louder with their growls/shrieks during the night. they are reported to be i afraid of both humans and cars, although they mainly prey on sheep by beheading them. there are many possible sightings of this cat, although physical descriptions vary. sightings began in 1909 when a large, black cat was sighted in the hills around jamberoo, new south wales. in the mid-1930s to the mid-1950s, a big cat that could allegedly eat an adult sheep in one sitting was investigated near briagolong, victoria. in emmaville, new south wales, there was a large, black cat reported multiple times. in 1956-1957, 340 sheep were killed on a single ranch. the case was declared solved on at least two occasions, but the tales continued on. in the late-1960s, early-1970s, and mid-1990s there were resurgences of sightings of the panther-like creature. in cordering, western australia, there was a report of a large cat that could kill sheep with “surgical precision”. many of them had their skin peeled back and the meat taken of their bones. kangaroos were also found with fatal puncture wounds.
bar-manu is a creature of central asia. it is described as very muscular, and covered with dark hair. it has short, guttural cries, but does not speak. it’s behavior describes it as an omnivore. their tracks are human like with the feet facing inward. in in the hindu kush range in 1977, purdum khan watched one of these creatures. he described it to eat leaves and ant-larvae.
basilisk is a creature of europe and north africa. it is described as anywhere 12 inches to 20 feet in length with a bright white spot upon its head. it later came to be described as a bird sporting a rooster’s comb and a snake’s tail. it’s described as moving with its middle portion up. the basilisk is said to be born from a cock’s egg that is hatched by a toad or snake. in roman temples, its skin was used to protect from spiders, snakes, and birds, as it was thought to deter them. if a basilisk were to see it’s own reflection, it would cause the creature’s death. in italy (1212), a basilisk was said to have killed many people until pope leo iv destroyed it with a prayer. this same year another was thought to be found in a well. in 1587, two polish children were killed by what was thought to be a basilisk. they were found dead in the cellar by a servant.
demonology
everyone knows the idea of a demon’s name holding power. in the catholic rite of exorcism (roman ritual), the name of a demon is important. this importance comes from the gospel of mark and the gospel of luke. when jesus was confronted by a possessed man, he requests the name of the demon before exorcising it, which implies that the name of the demon has power over it. in fact, this idea goes back to ancient belief from babylon, sumer, and akkad. names of demons and devils are thought to act as a beacon, calling them to our world when their names are said. this idea is actually a large reason there are many nicknames for satan. in the middle ages in europe, they began to come up with names like old nick or old scratch, hoping this would give the the devil less power over their life. many demons are presented as fallen angels, meaning they keep the usual suffix for angelic names like -ael or -iel.
a large impact on european concept of demons comes from the testament of solomon. this book presents demons as a force that torments humanity with death, disaster, and disease, as well as showing them being compelled or bound by their names. the testament of solomon also introduces demons to be fallen angels or the children of said angels after they had come to earth. this knowledge was already present in many pagan religions, but it became relevant to christians with its introduction to the bible.
grimoires
grimoires are books of magick. their name derives from the old french word “grammaire”, which refers to all the books written in latin, but the term began to be used for books of magick specifically sometime around the 18th century.
these books have been viewed as possessing an incredible amount of power, and only those properly initiated into the mysteries were meant to read them. many early grimoires detail demons, angels, elemental spirits, and other beings.
many early grimoires are devoted to summoning and controlling demons. the spells in these grimoires are said to read similar to latin priestly orientations. this is due to the fact that many of the traditions in these grimoires were practiced by members of the clergy. members of the clergy were often the only ones with the literary abilities to read, write, or copy these texts.
despite members of the clergy practicing with demonic magick, western europe was being swept up in the persecution of witches. with the mania at the time, these texts detailing demons became known to be associated with witchcraft and satan.
the demonology of western europe came forth from many key sources like the bible, the qabbalah, hellenic magick (curse tablets, magical papyri, etc.), and the mythology of ancient middle east.
demonic possession likely comes from ancient sumerian ideas of demons of illness inhabiting the human body to cause disease.
egregores
an egregore is “a psychic entity composed of and influencing the thoughts of groups of people”. while this is a common meaning of the word today, there is an older meaning to it. in ancient practices, egregores were a home or conduit for psychic intelligence of a non-human nature. they were essentially defined as non-human humans. they connect the world we live in with the invisible world. for the word derives from the greek word égrégoros, which means “wakeful” or “watcher”. godwin believed these creatures to be originated from ancient greece and rome. their daily practices and lifestyles were focused towards preserving the harmony between the invisible world and the material world. an important factor is that egregores are created and sustained from belief, ritual, and sacrifice. egregores were formed to protect over important areas to the greeks and romans. as long as offerings and devotions continued to these beings, they would protect and serve those who served them. when new cults came into being and the energy of worship was directed elsewhere, however, the agreement is broken and the egregore will stop protecting the specified land and its people.
