Headcanon that in order to make up for the fact the folk are night creatures and therefore unaccustomed to the bright daylight in the mortal world, Jude, Cardan and the court of shadows rock up to the mortal realm wearing sunglasses.

Bonus if other people mistake the heavily armed scowling group wearing an excess amount of finery (I’m talking about Cardan) and shades as members of rock band or smth.

I want to read about characters that aren’t quite human trying to use human idioms and expressions in an attempt to try and fit in and disguise themselves as humans.

A character that wants to fit in with young mortals having a knack for incorrectly using their expressions: “As you mortals say you drew the long stick”

Evie: “I’m currently being hunted by two different monsters, don’t you mean the short stick?”

Character:”what no! Carrying around a long stick is much more difficult! Much heavier than a short stick. (With a curious glint in her eye and a more solemn tone) And you my dear are carrying a heavy burden.

Writing Snippet- Fantasy

She settled down on the moist grass next to her and turned her gaze upwards to the stars littering the sky above. To think of the series of kings and queens before her who once looked up and saw the same thing she saw now. To think of the sheer energy required to hold onto such power. Draining. Corruptive power. The thought left her mouth dry. The turmoil of thoughts that rampaged through her head tumbled out of her mouth in small whisper, “How do you do it?”

The red head next to her replied in the measured language used by the folk,”The same way you will one day” 

“What if that’s not true” she breathed into the darkness that stretched above.

Hardened brown eyes turned to face her, glistening with an ageless arrogance that left no room for argument,”Then you make certain that the fates themselves mould the future to suit you’re every whim”

“It’s that simple is it” she retorted.

“It’s as simple as you make it but only with a determined head will you succeed” 

“Is that how you did it?”, her voice turned wistful.

The red head sat up, a glint in her eye as her jaw ticked. “No” her tone was quiet but there was no mistaking the agony that laced her voice.

Imagine that our first contact with aliens was actually centuries ago when we still huddled over a burning flame in order to keep ourselves warm. Picture the pure terror in their eyes as they watch us meddling with this bright devouring substance for which they have no name. They never made contact with our recklessly impulsive species again but the day to day habits they witnessed are the crux of horror stories told to their wide-eyed children.
