What "Starting Over Again" has taught me.

Star Cinema’s Starting Over Again earned a whopping 200 MILLION in 5 DAYS. Starting Over Again has taught me a LOT of things.

Communicate with each other Communication is a big factor in a relationship. You should always tell each other how you feel.

No regrets, Just love Even if your relationship would fail, never regret having it. Never regret loving him/her. It may have failed but surely it taught you a lot.

Be Honest Honesty is something you owe to the person you love. If you really love him or her, you should be honest to him or her. No sugar coatings. No half-truths. No little white lies. Just the plain truth which they deserve to hear from you whether it hurts them or not.

Life goes on Even you're heart is broken, even if you're depressed, in reality, life doesn't stop for anyone. Don't stop living just because your relationship did not work. Tomorrow is another day.

Let go, Let God Sometimes, we just have to let go of the things we have no control over. Letting go is not easy but it's the best thing for the both of you.

Don’t leave everything to fate Even if you believe in destiny, at the end of the day it’s up to you to make the choices and do whatever you need to get to where you want to be. You write your own destiny.

Remind yourself to be a better person everyday Remember that being in love means being inspired to improve and become the best version of yourself and not to be reduced to someone mediocre and complacent.

Be realistic Know when to stop dreaming and know when to be realistic. Sometimes, because of too much emotions, we fail to distinguish the reality from our dreams.

There isn't always a second chance This film has taught me that sometimes a second chance doesn't neccesarily mean that you'll end up together again but rather a better ending for the both of you.

There is a reason for everything Sometimes we would ask ourselves why all of these things happen to us. I realized that there really is a reason for everything.

You can always START OVER AGAIN You are never too late to start a new life, a new career, a new business, a new family or a new you. Starting over again may mean change but it's definitely for the better.

There are soooo many lessons in this film. Honestly, I can relate to Ginny in soooo many ways. My new favorite movie!! If you haven't seen the film yet, you are definitely missing half of your life. Kudos to Star Cinema, Olivia Lamasan, Toni Gonzaga, Piolo Pascual and Iza Calzado!! Thumbs up!

OJT

Para sa mga kapatid kong 3rd year psych students na mag uumpisang mag OJT this summer.

Ang OJT ay hindi lang basta training. Isa itong experience. Hindi ko pwedeng sabihin na pare pareho kayo ng maeexperience dahil iba ibang kumpanya ang mapapasukan niyo at iba ibang klase ng tao ang makakasalamuha ninyo. Sobrang daming pwedeng mangyari. Mayroong maganda at di maganda.

Ang OJT ang unang step para magbago ang attitude mo toward work. Syempre napakalaki ng pagkakaiba ng pag aaral sa pag tatrabaho. Maninibago ka, oo. Mahihirapan ka, sa umpisa, oo. Matututo ka, oo. Dapat matutunan mo ang tamang pananaw tungkol sa pagtatrabaho. Para pagdating ng panahon na magtatrabaho ka na, alam mo na ang dapat gawin.

Ang OJT ang isa sa mga pagbabasehan ng mga employers kung tatanggapin ka ba nila o hindi sa kumpanya nila. Kung naging maganda ang performance mo noong ojt, siguradong malaking factor yun for a company to hire you. Kaya kung ako sayo, gagalingan ko. I will do my best.

Eto yung mga bagay na ginagawa ko nung nag oojt ako:

Never akong nale late. Madalas kong maunahan ang boss ko sa office. Hindi ko sinasabi na maging OA ka sa pagpasok ng maaga, ang gusto ko lang sabihin is you have to show them that you're very much interested to learn and to be trained by them.

Dapat din, bibbo ka. Wag mong hahayaan na wala kang ginagawa dahil dyan mag uumpisa ang katamaran. After mo sa isang gawain, tanungin mo na agad ang boss mo kung anong next na pwede mong gawin.

Be friendly. Lahat kausapin mo, chikahin mo. Kahit pagbati lang ng good morning, okay yun. Wag ka mamili ng kakaibiganin, lahat sila kausapin mo. Kahit si manong guard, si ateng janitor at kung sino sino pa sa kumpanya. You'll be surprised sa mga words of wisdom na pwede nilang ma share sayo.

Don't complain. Kung halimbawa, sunod sunod ang utos sayo, sige lang. Basta wag ka lang matataranta. Chill ka lang. Relax. Kayang kaya mo yan. Ipakita mo that you cam work under pressure. Isa yan sa mga katangian na gusto nila sa isang employee.

At ang pinakaimportante, think of this as your first JOB. Wag mong iisipin na trainee ka lang. Isipin mo na nagtatrabaho ka talaga sa kumpanyang ito at gustong gusto mong matuto. Sabi nga nila, love what you do, do what you love! Mahalin mo lang ang trabaho mo and it will love you back.

When it comes to the different fields naman. (Educational, Industrial, Clinical) Pinakagusto ko sa lahat ng OJT experience ko yung Micro Teaching at Guidance. Syempre depende din to sa naging experience at kung alin sa tatlong fields ang naenjoy mo talaga. Etong ojt mo ang tutulong sayo para malaman kung saang field mo ba talaga gusto. Kung sa HR ba, sa Guidance, sa Clinic or lahat to gusto mo?

Sa lahat ng third year psych na nagbabasa neto, wag kayong matakot at kabahan. Normal lang yan sa umpisa. Basta galingan ninyo and i'm sure magugustuhan ninyo ang pag oojt. Good luck, Sikolohistas! Aja!

Open letter sa lahat ng single ngayong Valentines Day.

Ang Valentines Day ang tanging araw na nagpapaalala sayo na single ka. Yung tipong pag lumabas ka ng bahay, mapa school o mall, punong puno ng mga magka holding hands, magka akbay, at sweet na sweet na magboyfriend at girlfriend. Yung tipong may dalang flowers or teddy bear yung girl, yung puro heart shape ang decor sa mall, yung nagkalat ang mga PDA. Eto yung tanging araw na nagpapaalala sayo na wala kang jowa.

Para sakin, okay lang naman kung mag isa ka. Edi kumain ka mag isa, manood ka ng sine mag isa, mamasyal ka mag isa, mag enjoy ka mag isa. Sabi nga nila, paano ka magbibigay ng pagmamahal sa ibang tao kung sarili mo di mo kayang mahalin, diba?

This year, ayokong mag focus ka sa mga bagay na wala ka. Mas gusto kong pagtuunan mo ng pansin ang mga bagay na meron ka. Tulad ng pamilya at mga kaibigan. Di naman porket single ka, ibig sabihin malulungkot ka na. Sobrang daming bagay na dapat mong ipagpasalamat dahil meron ka. Meron kang pamilya, meron kang mga kaibigan, nakakapag aral ka o may maganda kang trabaho, madaming blessings ang dumadating sayo. Kung magfo focus lang tayo sa mga bagay na meron tayo, di na natin mapapansin ang mga bagay na wala.

In short, wag masyadong dibdibin ang pagiging single. Parte yan ng buhay. God is just preparing you to be the best person that you could ever be. Para pag dumating na si the one, alam mo kung paano mo siya mamahalin. :)

Friendzone among other things.

"Are we just friends? Nothing more and nothing less?" “… Friends.”

That moment where you gather all your strength and courage to ask him/her that question and then you get “… Friends.” for an answer. That sounds awful. I mean, for someone who’s hoping to be in a relationship, that hurts, especially if that someone exerted an effort to make him/her feel special.

They say that being friends with that someone special is better than being in a relationship with them. Cause at least you can stay as friends forever. Not when you’re engaged in a romantic relationship because those kinds of relationships are not guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Personally, i’ve experienced this twice. And what i’ve learned from those experiences, is that no matter how much effort you put into making someone feel special, no matter how much time and attention you give to them, there is no guarantee that they’ll love you back. Loving someone doesn’t give us the license to own them. We can only love them and hope that they’ll feel the same. I do agree that being friends with the one you love is better than being lovers. I also believe that loving someone is a risk. Why not try. You may lose the friendship but at least you tried. At least you won’t have any regrets.

I guess i’ll end this by saying that even if you’re in the friendzone right now, never give up. ‘cause one day, you’ll find that someone special and all this pain that you’re experiencing right now will all be worth it. Just keep the faith.

The Essence of Being a Psych Major.

Most often than not, people associate Psychology to mind reading and predicting the future. Psych Majors are built to understand behavior. We are molded and sharpened as students to understand and analyze behavior in order to help other people in the future. Being a Psych Major not only makes you a keen observer, it also makes you a good listener and a very effective speaker.

Psych Majors are everywhere. From HR associates to Mental Health Advocates to Educators to Researchers to Counselors to Psychologists. We are everywhere.

I think the essence of being a Psych Major is to understand oneself in the hope of understanding others. Understanding other people could lead to a better understanding of oneself.

Personally, I took up Psychology because I want to understand why I behave in such manner. But I was wrong, I just realized that maybe I took up Psychology because I want to be able to understand why people behave the way they do. After almost 4 years of studying Psychology (Graduating in a few months, Yey!), I think i'm able to answer a few of my questions and I also think that what I learned is not enough. Knowledge can never be enough. That's why i'm planning to pursue graduate studies in the coming school year.

The essence of being a Psych Major is understanding. You should know to understand. You should study to know. And you should decide to study. When you understand why other people behave the way they do, it could lead to a better understanding of oneself. I think that's one of the main reasons why Psych Majors took up Psychology in the first place.

Tips on Moving Forward

1. Moving forward requires one step at a time. You don’t just one day suddenly feel alright at where you are and not get pulled/pushed back. It’s a gradual buildup of how you feel and the product of your hard work. So if you feel good one day, ask yourself what is it that makes you feel good and keep striving for the thing that makes you feel good. If compromises are necessary, do it anyways. Strategically weigh the prices you have to pay for the future that you desire vs the having to feel bad at this moment.

2. Leave all baggages behind. If you are waiting for someone or hoping that someone would turn around, don’t. Put a closure to it. If you must intentionally destroy all chances you have with that person, do it and say everything you need to say ‘good or bad.’ Just don’t linger on any expectations. If something is meant to be, it will be.

3. Always smile and have faith in your actions. Never question yourself and if what you do is right or not. Just believe in yourself and realize that you’re human. If you’re making mistakes towards your objective, don’t sweat it too much. The outcome will be the same regardless of how many mistakes you make as long as you are striving towards that ending you desire.

4. If you’re lazy or your work habit is a mess, start putting effort into things. Get in touch with the feelings of discouragement, unsatisfactions, and guilt for not reaching your goals. They are your callings. Listen to them, and use them to be the driving force of your productivity. Only productivity can make you happy.

5. Forget everything else. Put the less important stuff aside. Try to not procrastinate. Be conscious of your habits and slowly replace them with something else. For example, if you find yourself watching Anime instead of studying, while watching Anime, think about your work behind your head. Eventually all you’ll be thinking about is work.

6. Start slow. Don’t immediately throw everything aside, start small by working towards making greater and greater sacrifices. For example, don’t immediately decide that you are going to stop hanging out with friends, or stop watching Animes, instead, slowly remove one thing at a time.

7. Should the day come when you finally succeed, then you can rest if you want to. At least, you’ve already lived your life to the fullest and will not have any more regrets. You’ll be eternally happy and carefree

inTENse emotions.

It's been 10 days and I still feel elated over Erik Santos' inTENse performance for more than three hours straight at the PICC Plenary Hall last November 9, 2013. Everything was inTENse! The suit, the songs, the venue, the guests, the fans and of course the concert king of the next generation, ERIK SANTOS. I feel so blessed to have been given a chance to witness Erik's 10th anniversary concert. It was unlike any other concert. I really felt the sincere gratitude that Erik feels inside his heart. Let me take you back into that one night of inTENse emotions.

It was past 8pm of November 9 and fans are all excited to be a part of this once in a lifetime event. People from all walks of life gathered in the Philippine International Convention Center to express their love and support for Erik. The Erik Santos Friends Online arranged a mini exhibit at the lobby of PICC. The exhibit showcased Erik's journey for a decade, starting from this photo of him in a singing contest in Malabon year 1993.

The exhibit also featured some of the awards and recognitions given to Erik in the span of ten years.

Inside the venue, a white cloth in the centerstage made the audience curious as to what would happen. Lights out and there was El Gamma Penumbra doing what they do best. A shadow play of Erik's life story made all of us giddy and excited. VIDEO: Erik's opening.

I think this was one of the best opening number ever. Kudos to team inTENse. Erik then started the night with a mash up of Rihanna's "Fly" and R. Kelly's "I believe I can fly". The show lived up to its name, inTENse. This night was a roller coaster of emotions for all of us. Erik made us laugh, kilig and cry all at the same time. I was crying in my seat when I saw Erik cry for the first time while he was singing "Magpahanggang Wakas", a song he dedicated to his parents. VIDEO: Erik singing Magpahanggang Wakas.

I really felt Erik's sincerity and gratefulness to his parent's love and support for him through the years. Made me love him more! Enough with the crying, let's get kilig and all. One of the most applauded numbers in the show was when Erik sang three of the most favorite themesongs from the best JLC-Bea movies of all time (Now That I Have You, Miss You Like Crazy and I'll Never Go). In the middle of each song, a snippet from each of the movie was shown in the screen, starring Ms. Bea Alonzo and Erik playing the roles of JLC in the three movies. VIDEO: Erik with Bea Alonzo.

This concert was the longest concert Erik held in ten years. I think this concert also had the most number of guests and special appearances from Erik's friends. Frenchie Dy and Piolo Pascual acted out as Erik's Mom and Driver respectively, and Rufa Mae Quinto came out as a surprise guest. Everyone was laughing during this small segment.

Erik's special guests are also his good friends. His light and sweet duet with Pops Fernandez made me love the song, "A thousand years" more. One of the inTENsely powerful number was Erik's Meat Loaf Medley with Yeng Constantino and Angeline Quinto. Would love to see them again on one stage. Erik's counterpoint duet of "Kulang ako kung wala ka" and "Pangarap ko ang ibigin ka" with the Asia's Songbird, Regine Velasquez left us wanting for more. Erik's final guest was no other than the Comedy Concert Queen, Ms. Ai Ai Delas Alas. They brought the house down. Definitely one of the funniest parts of the show. Everyone was laughing! Watch a snippet of their funny moments here: Erik and Ai-Ai (special thanks to QritikoLTD for the video).

The night cannot end without showcasing Erik's vocal prowess. This was definitely one of my favorite parts of the show. Erik's Les Miserables Medley proved to me that he really deserved the crown ten years ago and he still deserves it up to now. He's still the best singer in town. As the night comes to an end. Erik sang the song that brought him to where he is now, the song that made all of his dreams possible, the song that helped him provide for his family.

We all thought that that was the end of the show. I was hoping for more of course, I didn't want the night to end. Thankfully, there was an encore. VIDEO: Erik's encore.

Change for the better.

Change is inevitable. That is probably the only constant thing in this world. If you really want change, you should start with yourself.

Right now, i'm in the process of changing myself for the better. New habits, New plans, New me. Before, I usually just go with the flow. I just do what needs to be done. Now, I have plans for myself. I'm actually planning to pursue graduate studies for the next school year. During our Research A Class, I hated research. It sucked for me. It was complicated and I don't plan to do another research. But now, I even volunteered to be Sir Benzon's research assistant for his next research this coming sem. I can't believe it.

I don't know what brought about this sudden change in me. But I guess, it's about time. If you feel like you've been a bad child to your parents or a bad student to your teachers, I think it'a about time for you to reflect and start changing for the better. Again, change is inevitable. You have to embrace it! CHANGE FOR THE BETTER!
