To celebrate RAINBOW!'s release today, I'm going to go over all the daydream references that have been made so far, since it's fun for me to sneak them in 💖 there's a lot of them though, so it's gonna be under the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 1-- Kiki's Delivery Service and E.T.! People focus on the Kiki reference so much that the other seemed to be missed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 2-- Princess Serenity and Prince Endymion, Sailor Moon. Another one obvious enough to be called out in some comments. It was referenced again in episode 54, where this panel was taken from.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 5-- Marceline, Adventure time. One of the few reference that isn't an outfit specifically, but a character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 11-- Revolutionary Girl Utena. Not necessarily supposed to be the characters themselves, just the outfits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 11-- Minako Aino, Sailor Moon. In hindsight, I don't remember why I chose this specific dress to reference and not the maid outfits from Sailor Stars or the fruits maid outfits from the manga... especially since I think the fruits maid outfits are adorable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 11-- Catra, She-Ra reboot. I kind of regretted this one immediately just because like 80% of the comments on the episode were "CATRA SUIT!!!" as a result...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 18-- Sailor Moon manga. I was always intrigued by the way characters would be dressed in dreamlike/ethereal sequences in the manga, so this reference was a must for me. I went with the version that is a full dress with straps rather than the dresses from other moments in the manga that have no discernible top half.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 30 and 31-- Not a reference to any specific film or character, but just film noir in general. I do remember referencing a female character specifically for this but sadly I couldn't find it again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 40-- Pomeranian scene, IT Chapter Two. Surely you saw this coming (or maybe not?) I don't think I got the camera angle good enough to really sell this reference, but I couldn't resist it anyways.
Tumblr media
Episode 43-- Adult Losers, IT Chapter Two. The only reference besides Marceline that references the characters themselves, since I normally use our other characters for background character purposes. Also one of the only references that isn't a daydream.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 54-- Disney's Snow White and Cinderella. I couldn't decide which to reference, so I ended up leaning mostly into Cinderella, but referenced the Evil Queen's crown as well. Boo's dress is also somewhat referenced from the the live action Cinderella dress instead of the animated version, just because I liked it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 54-- Treasure Planet and Treasure Planet 2 concept art. Treasure planet is one of my favorite movies, so there was no way I was missing out on referencing it. A few people brought up some wlw pirate webcomic(s?) in the comments of this episode, but the actual reference seemed to be mostly missed. The sash around Boo's waist is also meant to be fabric from her princess dress in the previous panels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 54-- Revolutionary Girl Utena. Another one I was kind of surprised wasn't called out just because of how iconic the whole clothed shadow/silhouette thing is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 55-- Saint Tail. I couldn't reference this one as closely as I would have liked since it probably wouldn't have been very readable as a magician's costume to someone who didn't know it, so it mostly references the brooch from the anime and her hat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Episode 61-- Jane Fonda in Spirits of the Dead. A super random and out there reference, especially to end on, but I liked the outfit so much that I couldn't help it. Maybe Boo used to fall asleep to old movie channels, lol.
That's it, at least for now! We'll have to see what shows up in future episodes~

At long last, my analysis on the down fall of the cartooning industry.
Cartoons have long been a medium of storytelling for all ages. You’ve got things ranging from Dora the Explorer to Family Guy.
And you’ve got all the in between’s that (while not rated for all ages) everyone can watch. Like Miraculous and The Owl House.
Cartoons (or animated series) as a whole have always been made for everyone. The use of beautiful and fluid animation is a great way to draw in viewers and get them engaged. And then in most cases, the plot comes through and gets viewers hook, line, and sinker.
Unfortunately as this form of storytelling gains popularity, the stigma around it continues to grow. That stigma being that Cartoons or animated series are only for children.
The idea surrounding that stigma is false. You wouldn’t let a child watch shows like Family Guy or South Park or even Camp Camp. And those are cartoons.
With the rise of more child friendly cartoons though, the misconception continues to rise as well.
The most prominent example of this in the Modern Animation Era? The Owl House.
Despite the creator, Dana Terrace herself, tweeting about her target audience for this show, many still believe that this show is for kids only.
This was only proven false though when Kids weren’t tuning in though. In fact, a majority of Owl House fans consisted of people ages 13-25. Not the audience Disney expected.
Unfortunately it wasn’t the audience they wanted either. In 2021 Disney announced it would be canceling the show and shortening its third and final season into three, hour-long specials.
A lot of Fans (and even the creator herself) speculate it has to do with Homophobia seeing as the show featured Disneys first WLW/ Sapphic couple in a children’s cartoon. And while I think that definitely contributed to their decision, I think there’s a bit more to it than that.
The Owl House, from the get go, set itself apart from other Disney Series. It jumped in with its darker concepts and art styles. The color pallet was different from Disney’s typical pastels. The character was relatable to audiences and portrayed the struggles of growing up different and weird.
Then, after a good Season 1 A, the second half came in. Here’s when the plot developed. This is where I believe Disney began to have problems with it.
Because of the complicated storyline and development of actual plot they couldn’t just air it on the Disney Channel on cable.
Which means they couldn’t get children to sit still and watch when it was on. Which means less people watched the Disney Cable channel.
Essentially what is happening is Disney as well as other streaming and Cable services are “kidyfying” Animation to make it cable worthy for children.
Hence The Owl House “not fitting their brand” and being cancelled while shows like Big City Greene and The Loud House have been, and traditionally are, aloud to run for multiple seasons one after another.
And shows like Infinity Train and The Owl House get cancelled or shortened.
I believe the act of doing this will truly be the downfall of the cartoon industry.
By reducing cartoons and animation to be kids only your depleting 75% of your audience. The 75% that is able to go out and buy mercy or go to see movies produced about the shows or convince adults to continue paying for services to watch these shows.
They’re killing their biggest sources of revenue and with it killing one of the greatest forms of story telling through television.

Streaming Services & LGBT+ Women Representation in 2024
Let's do a raking of where we stand and what has been going on in the last few months in streaming...
Grades: A+ highest and F lowest/fail
Max C
Max has been having trouble getting any hits in recent years. Though they are not purposeful about giving us representation they do have some gems. There's no quantity but there's some quality stuff. First and foremost. Harley Quinn the Animated Series. The animated series, now renewed for a fifth season and with a spinoff, has gone where no series has gone before. Yeah, animated series have given us representation before there's been Adventure Time, Shera, The Owl House, Steven Universe and more. However, two popular, important characters that are part of a huge franchise getting together in an animated series geared towards adults? And the representation being romantic and sexy and a healthy relationship? Love that for us and at the same time should be the standard. Max also has The Last of Us which was the biggest hit of last year and is returning next year, the lead Ellie is gay and will have a stable relationship next season. However, there's serious lack of quantity. There's some side characters here and there in shows like Peacemaker and The White Lotus but most shows don't have gay women or if they do they get cancelled or leave or handled badly. The gay lead in The sex lives of college girls is leaving, in Vilma Mindy Kaling made us think she's giving us Vilma and Daphne only to go "just kidding she's in love with her guy best friend after all" and the new Pretty Little Liars show original sin? Has no gay girl in it. Hubris.
Apple TV+ A
Apple TV+. For everyone asking what's the best platform for gay girl content that is consistent and of high quality that is your answer. Apple TV+ is not just the place for Dickinson and For all Mankind. It is consistent in giving us wlw in its shows whether that's The last thing he told me, See or Invasion. It is also giving us leads in its big budget, important projects not some small show they made on a dime and nobody noticed while they were advertising straight romcoms. In The Morning Show one of the leads is queer, in Bad Sisters same and of course our best show you could be watching right now, Monarch legacy of Monsters. It also usually renews its shows for at least 3-4 seasons. So, yeah if ur a gay girl you can get an Amen. On Apple TV+. Yeah there's some good stuff here and there on other platforms, Max has Harley Quinn which is revolutionary and The last of us which is one of the best shows of the year, Amazon's best and most successful show Wheel of Time gave us a queer woman lead, Netflix...used to include us in its important projects back in the day when they weren't the Facebook of streaming? But the important thing is, Apple TV+ has the most quality and quantity in its recent projects we've seen in a while. The effort to cater to us is clearly there.
Amazon Prime Video C+
Amazon Prime tries. We have to give them that. They have greenlit some important shows with good budgets that included gay leads. Some of those were The Wilds, A league of their own, Paper girls, Shelter. Notice a pattern? Yeah, cancelled. To be fair that is not always the case. The Wheel of Time, one of their most important shows has a gay woman lead played by fan favorite Rosamund Pike of I Care a Lot fame. They also gave us a whole reality show about Latin American super couple Calle and Poche. However, their misses are way more than their hits and they never give shows room to breath and grow an audience. You can't trust them to do that. Hopefully, they will at some point give us stories that they can finish but for now their efforts are subpar.
Hulu: B-
Hulu has been ramping up its efforts for representation and it shows. While for a long time aquired content was their gayest content (movies like Happiest Season for example) they have some interesting stuff recently. They made a more inclusive How I Met Your Father, with a lesbian being part of the group and treated well, they of course have our fan favorite Killing Eve, and they made a gay romance movie, Crush, casting two actual bi women to play the leads (Rowan Blanchard and Auli'i Cravalho). They have some shows that have important gay women characters like Class of 09, Only Murders in the Building, Dopesick, Little fires everywhere and even their new big bet Death and other details. Hulu has only started focusing on original content in recent years so we'll have to see how it goes.
Netflix: F
Netflix as been very focused on straight people in their 30s over the past couple of years. Gone are the days when they first started with shows like Orange is the New Black, their flagship show, having a wlw couple as its main couple. GenZ, the gayest generation yet(and this research doesn't include genz under 18 or that number would not be what it is😂), will probably be their downfall so there's that but for now it's an important streaming service that has turned into network TV.
It's a shift we've seen happening gradually but became apparent in the last few years the most as there was not only very limited content for us to watch but queer characters have not been given important stories or romantic relationships. The few bright spots (like Fear Street and I Care a lot) are acquired content that they didn't greenlit themselves, they just happened to buy. On the other hand, they have endless reality shows about straight romance and straight romantic comedies. Big budget, well promoted series always have a straight lead (even if they have to straight wash her from the source material *cough archive 81 cough*). Gay women are the gay friend/side character if they exist at all. In the past few years there were some lead characters in shows with miniscule budgets that were not given any importance like First Kill (which they set up to fail by giving it a bad budget, unknown leads, untested writers etc.) and warrior nun that were swiftly cancelled. Similarly, some small budget foreign shows had some gay women leads like Feria The Darkest Light (which was very good but was not promoted at all), and Everything Now(ditto). There were some side characters here and there most notably the ones in The Fall of the House of Usher and Elite but little else. Sometimes they even make it seem like they'll be giving us a show in which the lead girl has an actual romance storyline with another girl (Chosen) only to out it's not that way and the girl is just one of her love interests, given 2 minutes of screentime and not treated all that well.
Good reenactment of how the Netflix experience has been for queer women in the past few years:
Netflix: straight romcom, straight romcom, straight reality show, straight lead, straight romcom...
Other streamers and networks: increased representation
Netflix: one lesbian side character, straight romcom, straight romcom, straight reality show, straight lead who was a lesbian in the original but was straight washed, straight romcom...
Other providers: Movies are becoming gayer look Scream, Mean Girls even the Purge movies got gay! In Yellowjackets you have a lead lesbian with romance and friends cheering her on, in NCIS Hawaii Our lead couple is two women, in Monarch legacy of monsters the lead is a queer woman and in meaningful relationships with women....
Netflix: In Chosen the lead sleeps with a girl, then sleeps with a guy, then has like two conversations with the girl before the season is done then the show is never heard from again. Also, we've been sitting on the rights of The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo forever. Plus we took a successful podcast with a lesbian lead and ruined its live action adaptation by making her straight and we're always willing to throw in a gay girl side character XO XO
Paramount+ C-
When you think of Paramount+ and gay women you think of Special ops lioness. And that is a good show to think about. However, outside of that Paramount+ is a mixed bag with not a lot of choices. They don't have a lot of original programming, most of their stuff is CBS stuff. Other than Lioness in the original programming category we got dating show Love ALLways, a fun bisexual dating show. In the CBS shows they have NCIS Hawaii, which is awesome and has a wlw as its most important couple. They also bought Paper dolls which is another hidden gem you should definitely check out. Star Trek: Picard gave us two lead women in a relationship only to break them up. You'll find some side characters here and there like in The good fight. What adds some value is some acquired shows they have that you can also find elsewhere, like Showtime favorite Yellowjackets and MGM+ gem From. Still, definitely not enough for anything more than paying for a couple of months to watch Lioness, From and Yellowjackets.
Peacock C
Peacock has had trouble getting any of their shows to resonate with viewers. Most of their shows are the NBC shows. With their limited selection of original programming though they have shown a willingness to maje a real effort to be inclusive. The Saved by the Bell spinoff, which only run for two seasons(most of their original programming are lucky to get that far), made one of its leads bi and gave her a girlfriend. Bel-Air, one of its few shows to survive, made one of Will's sisters gay. Their miniseries The undeclared war has a gay woman lead. Their NBC shows are the ones that add some more quantity. You can find Law & Order: Organized Crime, one of the leads is gay in that one and any NBC show with a gay character from New Amsterdam to Manifest. What they don't have is some shows that you'll really want to watch and get a subscription for but to be fair, that goes for everyone.
Disney+ D
To be fair Disney+ has started its efforts for diversity and we suspect this grade will change in 2025 but for now it's a D. Right now only some small (but important) steps have been made in the right direction. Big Shot was their first show to include a lesbian kiss on the platform, it has since been cancelled. High School Musical The series took an important step by making an important side character bi and giving her a love interest...in its final season 🙃 Andor is really our big win when it comes to Disney+. A successful, already renewed show that introduces two gay women, who are important characters, and in a relationship, to the Star Wars universe. Marvel show She Hulk also threw us a marvel bone by having a gay girl side character. They also have The Owl House which is not nothing. But we need more than that, way more.

Tumblr media
will not admit it but he has cried to multiple animated kids movies
definitely the classics like toy story 3, the iron giant, and inside out
but he also BAWLED at the end of finding nemo because he was thinking about gabriella
he thinks that toothless from how to train your dragon is cute
no i will not elaborate on that
secretly celebrates st patrick’s day
likes to wear something green under his suit or have one piece of decor hidden in the depths of his office
has really low spice tolerance BUT really likes it and also he has a reputation to keep up as the big and tough guy so he WILL try and hide how much water he is chugging
he likes the dad ice cream flavours like pistachio and rum raisin
but hates dad hobbies like golfing or collecting stuff like antique coins or dioramas
he just doesn’t have the patience for it
can cook and bake!!!! actually scratch that he can do all of the chores and is basically a househusband but is simply unwilling to do it
peter b may or may not have gotten him a kiss the cook apron that may or may not be the only apron he owns…
he could 100% have gourmet meals every day but he doesn’t have anyone to impress but himself so most days he just lives off of the sealed, pre-cooked chicken breasts from the convenience store and reheated rice that he makes in a big batch once a week
because yes chicken can be store bought but microwaved rice tastes too much like chemicals, especially for his heightened taste buds
is a shower guy
he thinks that baths are too inefficient and most tubs can’t fit him
but if you somehow manage to find one that’s big enough…oh boy he’ll act like you are waterboarding him but honestly he’s having the time of his life
competitive as hell, even when he acts like he could not care less
like he does not understand the concept of letting somebody else win, why is he handicapping himself and letting them think they’re better than they actually are?
he doesn’t mean it in a way to establish dominance or superiority
he just thinks that it’s weird to let someone win because wouldn’t lying to them be worse? now they can’t even improve
designed his own suit and probably gets a little bit self conscious when someone comments on it because he really isn’t an aesthetics guy but he worked really hard and is proud of his suit 🥺
was perhaps a little bit salty about the dark garfield comment but you didn’t hear that from me
please never trust him with naming or decorating though because if left on his own, it’s either going to be the most disgusting combination of items ever known to man or quite literally the bare minimum
don’t even think about a bed frame, there’s a chance that he doesn’t even have a mattress
he’s good with personal hygiene though
a slight germaphobe in the sense that he wants everything to be sterile (a habit he picked up from always being in the lab) but is more than okay with getting his hands dirty, just as long as he can thoroughly sanitize them afterwards
a terrible movie watcher
he either does not understand the movie whatsoever and keeps on asking questions that they just answered a minute ago
or he’s ripping them apart for their weird pseudoscience
honestly his ranting ends up being more entertaining than the movie at times
be prepared for a full lecture if you don’t stop him at some point though
i’ve heard a lot of people throw out spanish songs that they think he would listen to but might i suggest some non-spanish songs
he gives me doja cat vibes, don’t ask me, i just feel it
personally, i don’t think he would actively listen to kpop or be into the fan culture but he probably enjoys some songs without even realizing they’re kpop
i’m thinking newjeans and maybe epik high??
ABBA
mitski and hozier (where are my depressed wlw at) because you know that when he’s in his brooding self hating mood that he needs suitable bgm
HATES cruises
something about being on water does not vibe with his spider-catness
neither does the overall cruise ship experience
hot tubs and buffets just don’t really do it for him
there’s not much space for privacy except for your own room but even then the walls are fairly thin
so it’d be nearly impossible for him to get any sort of peace
me and the rest of the internet all seem to have agreed that he has insomnia and i feel like a cruise ship would not help whatsoever
would complain about how the mexican food is just what americans think mexican food is like
is too much of a workaholic to take an extended break, and it’s too difficult to jump back into work should there be an emergency

So, I’m sure everyone has noticed there’s a lot of hype around Velma coming out as a lesbian in the newest Scooby Doo movie  (Or at least wlw depending on your interpretation of her character. All opinions are valid and all that). But did you know that she’s not even the first character from Scooby Doo to be confirmed as such? One other character in particular springs to mind, and that character is Verona Dempsey from What’s New Scooby Doo.
Tumblr media
Meet Verona. She was the villain of the week in the episode Fright House Of A Lighthouse where she masqueraded as the ghostly Creepy Keeper.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, how do I know Verona is wlw? Simple. In the episode, there’s a point where Scooby pretends to be a female mermaid to distract the Creepy Keeper.
Tumblr media
This was the Keeper’s reaction to that costume:
Tumblr media
See what I mean? Hearts coming out of a person’s head is generally considered to be the universal symbol of attraction in cartoons, ergo Verona is wlw since she was attracted to Scooby dressed as a woman. But here’s where it gets really interesting...
Take another look at Verona’s appearance:
Tumblr media
Now take a look at what Velma finds attractive about Coco Diablo in the latest Scooby Doo movie:
Tumblr media
Verona’s got incredible glasses, an amazing turtleneck, she’s shown to be obviously brilliant in the episode she appears in, and though I don’t know whether or not she loves animals, three out of four ain’t bad. Plus as a bonus, Verona was slightly villainous which is perfectly in line with Velma’s other female love interests, Coco Diablo and Marcie Fleach from Mystery Incorporated. My point is in another life, Verona easily could have been another love interest for Velma. In fact, I hope someday she comes back and actually fills that role. It would work really well considering how similar and compatible the two of them seem to be in that one episode.
Thank you for coming to my gay as hell Ted Talk.

"Yes, it’s true that there are artists and animators that deliberately coded her as wlw, but there are also writers who deliberately coded her as into men."
Is there more info about this point in your faq in another source, or was that something quoted from the interview you mention with Eden after that sentence, or perhaps even something said to you personally from someone else who worked on the show?
I know it from a conversation I had with Ricky.
It's not secret that several (if not all, I don't have the numbers) board artists deliberately coded Cassandra as being into women, but Ricky told me that Kelly Hannon, who wrote "Under Raps," intended to show Cassandra being genuinely into Andrew, along the same lines as old gangster movies where a cop goes undercover to infiltrate the Mob, then finds genuine comradery amongst the gangsters there, and feels conflicted and bad when he has to do his actual job and take them down because they're his friends now.
As intended, Cassandra was into Andrew. However, this is where Death of the Author comes in. It means that a writer's intent isn't more valid than the viewer's perception. How the audience interprets a piece of media, even down to an individual level, is still valid.

Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Thanks....
In no specific order. Did i take this opportunity to post pics of these characters? Yes.
Revy (Black Lagoon)
Tumblr media
A dual wielding gunslinger from Roanapur. She is badass and deeply unhinged. A seriously traumatized woman with solid character flaws and a weirdly pseudo romantic relationship with the guy she kidnapped for a ransom and is now desperately trying to protect without realizing that she can't save his innocence, because he was never innocent and pure.
Fredrica Sawyer (Black Lagoon)
Tumblr media
A cleaner from Roanapur, uses a chainsaw as her primary weapon, cannot talk due to a severe injury to her larynx and uses a voice synthesizer. An adorable and creepy goth girl who may or may not have in universe ties to the Texas Chainsaw massacre. Which yes, implies that black lagoon is set in the same universe as the TCM movies.
Dazai Osamu (BSD)
Tumblr media
Love the depiction of depression and mental health problems with the guy. Love how he is constantly present everywhere and is seen through everyone else's perspective and yet we know so little about him. He is a dork and a brat and so annoying. He is usually aloof and distant but deep down has the capacity to be tender and kind that is only seen in the rare moments of vulnerability. But he is so hopeful and yet completely convinced he deserves nothing.
Chuuya Nakahara (BSD)
Tumblr media
He's such a tragic character like his life is one compromise after another as he gets pushed further and further into a bad situation but he will not let that stop him from making the best out of his situation. His compassion and empathy for even those who hurt him is so powerful but his brutality and intelligence is another aspect that makes him stand out against the other characters of his kind. And then you have his incredible loyalty where he will cross all boundaries to protect those he considers his people. Gorgeous characterization honestly.
Yato (Noragami)
Tumblr media
Another extremely tragic character and one who is trying so hard to change his fate despite everything. My guy does NOT catch a single break through the centuries he has been alive and he is still so hopeful. Not to mention letting Bishamon despise him for so long just to protect Kazuma, a guy he barely knew at the time. UGH. And his whole thing for Hiyori and his affection for Yukine. Kill me!
Yukine (Noragami)
Tumblr media
This was the first time I cried honestly. His backstory had me curled up in my bed unable to eat for an entire day. And his growth from an annoying unlikeable brat to one of the most lovable characters is crazy. Also no, I will never not cry over Yukine calling Yato 'dad'.
Jeremy Pascal (Tales from the Gas Station)
I didnt realize how much I liked him till I thought he died. In that regard I'm like Jack I guess, neither of us realised how much we cared for this adorkable himbo ex cultist. The fact that he is genuinely heartbroken that his suicide cult abandoned him and committed without him is so...oddly endearing and just the energy he adds is charming. He's also such a great friend to Jack, man better start appreciating him more.
Sorey (Tales of Zestiria)
Tumblr media
This is my son. And my sun. He is the most precious, sweetest boy to me. Aside from being ridiculously gay about Mikleo, the guy is what you'd think is a typical hero figure in such a setting. Pure, celibate, sweet and even tempered etc. But he is snarky as hell, constantly teases others, is NOT oblivious contrary to popular opinion. He is also irritable. I also love that he is an archaeology nerd.
Irma Lair (W.I.T.C.H)
Tumblr media
I dont remember too much about her but I always really liked her. Enough that she is still amongst my absolute favorites. It probably helps that she was made wlw in the tv series and has some shippy moments with Cornelia in particular.
Balalaika (Black lagoon)
Tumblr media
Listen, she is an ex military woman, who went MIA with her entire squad of loyal soldiers and now runs the fucking mafia in Roanapur. Woman is gorgeous and has acid burn scars all down her face and body. And she is terrifying. She will break necks with a smile and values loyalty and efficiency above all else. But she is such a deeply damaged woman who deserved better. But see, the people in Roanapur are there cause this is their last stand before they end up dead.

Random R.B. Headcannons
Yet again, throwing out hc’s that no one asked for cuz I’m absolute trash for one (1) Robin Buckley 🤷🏻‍♀️
Tumblr media
Robin is a book nerd and will always recommend something no matter what genre you throw out there
Has a deep love for gothic lit and Mary Shelley and anyone who Shelley was associated with
Has tried to find as many queer wlw stories as possible for the 80s (Annie on my Mind by Nancy Garden, The Color Purple by Alice Walker, The Hunger by Whitley Strieber, and Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu to name a few)
Robin is a HUGE Stephen King fan - loves The Stand the most and read all 1152 pages in 3 days because it was “just too good to put down”
Identifies a lot with the character of Carrie in King’s novel due to feeling like an outcast
Absolutely ADORES the 1976 movie with Sissy Spacek - will always recommend it when on shift at Family Video
On the topic of family video, Robin will 100% play the same movie over and over again for a week and just quote the entire thing while Steve just looks like “you’re ridiculous” to which Rob just keeps quoting even louder to prove a point
Nights where she’s working, you come in and sit on the counter until she and Steve are done cleaning and closing - you help out a little too especially with organization
After her shifts over, you drive her home and you rock out to whatever new playlist she made
You spend the night at least twice a week and have your own section of stuff in her room
Her room would be slightly scattered but everything would be in an organized mess ya know?
Like her desk would be messy, but everything has its *specific* space
Has a comfort hoodie she always wears and will let you borrow on days where you don’t feel well emotionally or physically.
Absolutely fuckin loves the Twilight Zone and could watch it for hours
Oh god the amount of times she can just quote the intro out of nowhere would be just so cute and endearing that you’d join in and just laugh and kiss her cheek after
Friday nights were nights for you and Robin (and sometimes Steve) to watch movies and just relax from the week. snacks, candy, pizza, popcorn - I mean they get a discount on it at work after all
Robin LOVES the fair. She will honestly act like such a kid when she sees that it’s in town. Low key she is good at EVERY game they have there and knows all of the ways to win. Balloon darts are her favorite and she will always win you as many stuffed animals as possible and you win her one that she cherishes and just holds the entire night
Has a deep deep love for funnel cakes for no reason
Will only go on rides if you go with her - packaged deal
Will deny it, but she gets really bad motion sickness and will have to play it off - maybe one too many slices of pizza before the Zipper ride 😬
Absolutely LOVES taking Polaroids because “the lighting is pretty” and that it “brings out the color in your eyes”
Secretly scared of the Ferris wheel because of someone rocking the seat when she was younger, but will gladly go on it with you if you hold her hand the entire time
——————————
Now I really want to write a fair fic because that just sounds adorable tbh
a/n: all of these are just my opinion and you don’t have to agree with any of them! I’d love to know some of your hc’s for Robin - throw em my way :)

I'm like 70% sure I sent the wlw dominated fandoms ask and was just feeling like being on anon that day (if I wasn't and just nearly submitted something super similar I'm so sorry original anon) the main fandoms I was thinking of were
The Owl House: Another anon suggested that so I won't bother with too much. Canon wlw ship and canon nblw ship, it took a while for me to even see a mlw or mlm ship come into the picture.
Revue Starlight: Absolute favorite anime/franchise, no I don't understand it 100% because you usually won't immediately. It was what I was really thinking of there. It has exactly one super explicit lesbian there (Mahiru, local winner of exactly one really big lesbian tournament I found on Twitter who stood alongside Hatsune Miku as the ultimate lesbian) and several wlw ships so heavily implied that they are pretty much canon. You also get your pick from the big ships (not noting Mahiru ones. Sorry girl), so you can choose between the childhood friends who act like they're broken up 50% of the time and like they've been taking for years the other 50%, the girls who look like the healthiest happiest practically married couple until you get to the eventual problems (mostly in the movie, despite the many mental problems one of the components of the ship has), the two rivals who were the only couple happy by the end of the movie and the focused on couple of two childhood friends who decided to define their lives around a play which is a tragedy and just met after years apart. Also it's one of the only fandoms where a really big ship I see (Mahikaren) is a poly ship so there's that. There's also two movies (one's a recap), stageplays, a mobile game which only 50% of the players like (the big suggestion regarding it is to just find videos of the stories/read them because there is some really brilliant writing there and another super explicit lesbian in the form of Rui and many more very heavily implied ones) and more.
Gundam Witch: This isn't the actual title just shortened. Anyways this series is a good entry to the Gundam series as a whole but works as a stand-alone series. The main character and the next most focused on one are both canonically sapphic and in love and I care about them. I'm trying to make this shorter than the Revue explanation since I just really love that series so much but this fandom also has other wlw ships which have popped up and generally is just great for wlw content.
Bandori: It's a gacha mobile rhythm game but we all have our flaws (and I really love the rhythm parts and all of the super good music. Like I need to clarify that I was only talking about the gacha as a flaw because I know it's the one bit which may not be loved. That's one one thing I left about the Revue mobile game too. gacha unfortunately is very good for ongoing stories). Very few men exist here, the ones who do are related to main characters usually and are outside of their age range and the characters are all very very sapphic. Plus there's exactly one super canon ship (Parechu) where one of the characters involved has an arc heavily relating to the lesbian experience (and who also writes what is basically a love song for her gf considering all of the lyrics. Basically what I'm saying is that they're super in love), more with canon crushes on girls, and generally there's a lot of wlw fanwork in the series due to how sapphic all of these girls are. and I love the writing very much.
There are others but these are the ones constantly in my head. If I can think of any more I might send in another ask, and I'm also happily looking through the other wlw dominated fandoms I see because I'm always looking for media which is sapphic inside and outside of canon

only the option with the LEAST votes will be eliminated. propaganda under the cut (and more always welcome!):
kit tanthalos and graydon hastur:
Classic arranged marriage trope but the she-hates-him part never goes away because she’s in love with her best friend/bodyguard Jade
alexa, liana, jeremy, and ian:
the Only barbie animated movie where the girl(s) do not end up with a guy. alexa & liana live together and enact a ton of romantic tropes together, the twin guys do flirt with them but then the girls are separated from them by... a magic rainbow. they do dance together at the end of the movie... before the girls leave to go live together again. wearing dresses that are literally the bi and lesbian pride flags. no joke. cottagecore wlw separated from potential male love interests by literal magic rainbow the gayest barbie movie
tobias funke and debrie bardeux:
Debrie starred in a series of softcore gay porn films called Straightbait where she seduces a guy but tells him he has to sleep with another man before he sleeps with her to prove how attracted to her he is, thus proving he isn’t gay. Tobias is also super gay. They date for like 40 episodes and raise a son together. Tobias gets left by his first wife for not being sexually attracted to her and then has an affair with a gay porn actress from a series called straightbait I just think it’s pretty funny.
haruhi fujioka and hikaru hitachiin:
Haruhi x Hikaru from ouran high school host club. Yes i know she technically gets together with another boy in the end, but there is something so Queer about this ship in particular. Their whole date episode is just screaming Not Straight. For both of them.
ash ketchum and misty:
They’re basically set up as a kind of enemies to friends story and they make recurring jokes about how she clearly has a big crush on him, but nothing ever happens My childhood, i shipped them when I was 10
cali and flynn:
It starts off as a one-sided crush on Flynn’s side, and later becomes mutual when Cali develops feelings for him in the Skylanders IDW spin-off comics, their romantic tension lasts for most of the franchise (five games, a chapter of a spin-off comic, and a few bits and pieces in the spin-off books and mobile games), so far they’ve never gotten together as the franchise is currently still in hiatus mode (says this while on extreme copium) I think we need to appreciate the tropes in Calynn: Opposites Attract, Tough Girl x Himbo, Smart x Dumb, “You’re stupid, I like that in a man” vibes all over this ship! Seven year old me didn’t see Cali calling Flynn her guy in the sky whilst Flynn looked at her with heart eyes to lose to some other pairing!
alec hardy and ellie miller:
They're your classic workplace enemies to lovers. Alec takes the job that Ellie was meant for, they're forced to work together on a devastating murder case, they bond. Over three series Alec becomes more human and lets his walls down around Ellie, and she begins to respect and trust him as a colleague and as a friend. Its a Big Deal when they hug. In most cases, especially when it's an m/f detective duo, they would end up together. But yet. Thee David Tennant and Olivia Coleman did not even have an aborted kiss or feelings confession. Neither of them end up with anyone else but they don't hint at anything at the end either. Queer Ally of all time David Tennant does straightbait ironically.
good luck everyone! now go vote!

Genshin Headcanons: Sibling Edition!
Traveler: has a burning passion for stealing all your clothes, big or small Theyre theirs now.
Aether: If you don’t label your food before you put it in the fridge, it’s his. Whether it’s a jar of pickles, or leftover cake, he’ll finish the whole thing in one sitting.
Lumine: wakes you up by death metal screaming in the shower and her annoying ass alarm.
Paimon: starts fights and then runs behind you because aw hell nah I ain’t fighting that bitch- she did once break your wrist when you were younger though so uH.
Amber: insists she’s not touching you, tells the worst best jokes, and will bring you bugs to show them off. Her favorites are scorpions it’s horrifying. Also has a pet bunny you share, his name is Philanthropy because you wouldn’t let her name him the Baron.
Noelle: she’s the sweetest sister ever. Baked your birthday cake, and it was delicious you almost cried. She also teaches you how to clean and broke a harbingers face open for attempting to enhance in combat with you. She scares and cares for you. Double edged sword.
Kaeya: Gave himself a mullet in the bathroom at your middle school, and has no sense of direction. You are his google maps. You spend everything nights talking shit and trying to get him not to steal your expensive perfume/cologne/teabags.
Diluc: Had no sense of style for a good while so you had to pick out his clothes for the longest time. If he can’t figure out an outfit he just robs your closet.
Lisa: exclusively shops at book stores and introduced you to several wlw books. You think she has a crush on Jean, but every timer you ask she smiles scarily. Good anime recommendations tho.
Venti: steals alcohol and bribes you with his iPod to get you not to snitch to your parents. Is also the only one with a car so you rely on him for transportation.
Jean: will fuck any of these bitches up in your defense. Doesn’t matter who or why they’re free game for pissed off older sister. Golden child syndrome and has higher expectations of herself then Mt Everest.
Barbara: purposely uses her hydro vision to make her rain drop win the race. Will win any bet you make with her and enforces a heavy interest fee. Also sings in the shower, and will kiss your bruises to make you feel better before bandaging.
Rosaria: owns serval copies of ‘Art of War’, books that discusses women’s suffrage through out history and where there rights stand now, and could kill a man with her pinkie. She also loses horrifically at uno though so she’s not that cool.
Klee: helps you make bombs to prank her siblings (Jean, Albedo, Razor). Also is the only reason you passed chemistry, but we don’t ask about why she knows those formulas.
Diona: use to spend her nights making complex cocktails for you to try with whatever is in the fridge. The best one was half milk, quarter apple juice, quarter orange and a hint of cranberry.
Razor: the younger sibling who brings you a bunch of random shit because he wants your approval. You’ll fuck up anyone who makes the baby sad.
Eula: if anyone fucks with you, they fuck with her. She terrified the majority of mondstadt citizens into leaving you the fuck alone. Please share your expensive tea set with her girly needs to relax. She also takes you ice fishing but it’s really just her diving into dragonspine lakes and catching them bear handed.
Bennett: absolute menace to society. This is the third time you’ve accidentally burnt down the kitchen. MAKING CEREAL. The two of you watch movie marathons together though, and you’ve trained him to be less chaotic for headpats.
Fischl: Your best friend. Doesn’t matter if you’re siblings the two of you talk so much shit together and so fancily too… it’s great. She also has a great taste in metal music.
Sucrose: is the only one you trust to dye and take care of your hair besides Aether. She has the most complicated but best hair care routine you’ll ever know. Her skincare too??? Immaculate.
Albedo: likes to show off your baby photos, and has a collection of photos of the two of you over the years. Also taught you basic Alchemy, and teaches you how therapeutic art is. Also would slowly close the fridge and try to balance the light switch with you.
Fakebedo: taught you combat and likes to take you out to throw rocks at passing bystanders. Venti fears you because whenever he tries to throw them back at him you appear with Diona held above your head. Instant god repellent.
Mona: You have a schedule of when to bring her food and will not hesitate to break into this mf’s house. You’ve done it once before.
Timmy: you might’ve broken Kaeya’s nose for fucking with your little brother. Only you can bully him, no one else.
————————————————————
Here’s the Mondstadt edition! Have a nice day y’all! :D

tell me about a piece of media you haven't seen anyone talk about :]
I hardly ever hear people talk about Given :(
It’s an anime and manga about this band called Given (hey that’s the name of the show!”) and it’s gay as hell and I love it for that. All the couples are mlm (wish there was a wlw shoved in there somewhere but whatever) and all these poor boys are so sad
The main character Mafuyu, starts as this really quiet kid and his eventually boyfriend Uenoyama starts to teach him how to play the guitar Mafuyu carries around with him but doesn’t know how to play.
Spoilers from here on out, pls go watch it/read it it’s worth it
WE LATER FIND OUT THAT THE GUITAR WAS MAFUYU’S DEAD EX BOYFRIENDS AND HE WAS IM A BAND WITH 2 OF THEIR MIDDLE SCHOOL FRIENDS AND MAFUYU HAD A FIGHT WITH HIM AND THEN YUKI (MAFUYUS BF) OFFS HIMSELF AND LITERALLY ANY MENTION OF YUKI HAS ME IN SHAMBLES
The whole show has a lot of metaphors where you play music with the people you love. One of the first lines of the show is “I later learned that what I was strumming were his heart strings” and later when Uenoyama pushes Mafuyu too hard (mentally) the strings on Mafuyu’s guitar break again. AGAIN THIS POOR FUCKING BOY NEEDS SO MANY HUGS
There are these other characters, Akihiko and Haruki, and I love them to death. I love AkuHaru but OH MY GOD DID THE MOVIE RUIN THEM
They got better but WOW WTF WAS THAT. I still love them, but AGHHHH damn you Akihiko DONT HURT MY BOY LIKE THAT
My favorite character is Akihiko’s ex Ugestu though, UGHHH HES A BITCH And also so gender….
“Bye bye, Akihiko” lives rent free in my brain HE DID NOT NEED TO CRY LIKE THAT-
Anyways I haven’t seen the new movie yet but I have all the volumes of the manga that are out (WELL I LOST HALF OF THEM BUT THEYRE SOMEWHERE) and the manga is finished so I know what happened but UGHHHH I love given. I love given to death.

So I watched a 2020 barbie movie the other day and... I have mixed feelings
I can see the barbie essence in it. I appreciate the message that life is what happens when the cameras are off, that we shouldn't focus on our online image or care about what others will think of us, and we should fight to be heard, express ourselves freely... I truly think that the best thing about the movie is the ideas of social media, appearances and truth, which are especially relevant to the young kids that will/have watched the film.
The characters are nice, and Ken has my entire heart because oh his golden retriever energy is so endearing! I can confidently say that I like him better than 2010s Ken. Is he less funy? Ok, yeah, he is, but he is so sweet! Not sure if I can compare him to early 2000s barbie's love interests though...
Tumblr media
I liked the representation too, I appreciated the fact that barbie's friend group is more diverse than before, ALTHOUGH I'm still waiting for mattel to give us the wlw rep we deserve bc deep down we all know that barbie is sapphic. She has a pink dolphin that is the epitome of sapphic, I won't elaborate.
But come on are we using the "barbie casually finds a girl that looks exactly like her and become friends and switch places" plotline?? again?? it's the THIRD time
The music is honestly... bad. I'm sorry it's so terrible I couldn't stand it. I'm a big fan of the soundtracks of 2000s barbie bc they used classical masterpieces, and 2010s soundtracks were really iconic as well! (Queen of the waves, Can you keep a secret, Keep on dancing, Here I am) but this movie just gave us... nothing.
But what made me sad was the OUTFITS?? PLEASE they were so goddamn boring it made me mad. Where are all the sparkles and the colours?? They took all the fun and beauty of Barbie dresses and made them into the most basic clothes that could literally be found in any fast fashion shop ever. I'm sorry but I don't watch barbie movies to see her in a Zara dress??!! As a kid, I wanted every single piece of cloth that barbie ever wore, but I don't think I would've liked... this
Tumblr media
Especially when you compare it to THIS
Tumblr media
And I'm not going to lie, I didn't like the animation either. It was too... CGI-y for me, honestly.
So I started rewatching Barbie in a mermaid tale just to be reminded of the times when they used to make movies that were still based in the real/contemporary world but used loads of magic and good worldbuilding + main characters with very different personalities and goals.
(and btw, Barbie is supposed to be 16 in both movies but she is much more teenage-like in mermaid tale)
A lot of the things in the princess adventure movie (2020) just seem too unrealistic because there isn't really any magic involved, and while I know it's supposed to be a kids movie, I didn't feel like Mermaid tale (2010) had such incoherent plotpoints or resolutions.
Anyway, I appreciate the messages, but I wish they brought back all the fun and sparkles and magic from old movies!

To go with the penny and mischa headcanons could you do some for noel? I love your other ones smmm
Absolutely I can noel is literally my number one fav and he is rotating around my brain at all times like a microwave
- as a kid he ABSOLUTELY wore his mother's high heels/fancy dresses and had a little tea party on a regular basis with all his stuffed animals bc DUH. He would force his mom to participate but she loved it
- she would paint his nails as often as he asked her to and in whatever color he picked. She'd have a giant collection of colors/glitter/etc and some of his earliest/favorite memories would be of him sitting on her bed getting his nails done and watching reality tv or a devastating french film he's DEFINITELY too young to be seeing
- he is also a giant theater kid and is only in the choir because he was banned from being in the school's plays after the waiting for godot incident
- everyone loves "nischa where Mischa is oblivious to Noel's flirting" but in my heart and soul it's the other way around
- bro is clueless fr Mischa could literally walk up to him and say "I am in love with you noel gruber and I want to marry you" and he'd be like ha imagine. Obviously you'd never mean that though
- was definitely given makeup from his mother for a birthday or something and it's all subtle enough that he can wear it places without people REALLY noticing but he knows it's there (it's like, clear mascara and tinted chapstick but he definitely cried when he opened it)
- side note he definitely has one of the nicest moms out of everyone in the choir??? People hc that she's an alcoholic for some reason and it's like. Nah she's his number one biggest fan fr !!!! We would know if she was 💀
- she doesn't KNOW about Monique per se but she's definitely seen the outfit in his laundry and just never brought it up
- because I know for a fact he's had it in his closet for YEARS and wore it for funsies when he knew nobody was home. Definitely has the entire choreography of cell block tango PERFECTED
- even before he worked at taco bell he high key hated it and that was just amplified with all the shit he had to deal with at that job
- everyone else in the choir literally loves it and it annoys him to no end
- half of his texts with ocean are "hello!! How is my favorite member of the choir today 😄😄" "what do you want ocean" "Baja blast please" "okay."
- he loves ocean like a sibling your honor. They're literally mlm wlw hostility but in a best friends way
- ESPECIALLY AS KIDS when they were kids they were just best friends it was him ocean and constance. But then she beat him at duck duck goose and their relationship was never the same (this is canon to me)
- my favorite thing is making them all best friends with Constance even before the accident because of course they were
- she was the nicest girl in town!! I know her yearbook was signed with a bunch of meaningless "I never met you but you seemed nice" crap
- but my personal theory is that noel, ocean and constance were a lil trio in elementary school and then ocean and noel became mortal enemies (/hj) so they grew apart
- and that's why they're allowed to bully each other relentlessly bc they're basically siblings at this point
- titanic was one of his fav movies before he discovered french new wave cinema but he didn't cry much when he watched it (and if he did, it's because he was wishing a stranger he met on a cruise in the 20s would die for him the way jack did for rose)
[I don't know why I have titanic headcanons for basically every member of the choir I don't even like it THAT much???]
- also he insists there was no room for Jack on the door (he's right)
- he has a black cat named Lola. There isn't much to this hc but I just think it's objectively true.
- On the rare occasion the choir would hang out before the accident and the rarer occasion it was at Noel's house, Ricky would ignore everyone completely and make a beeline to the cat
- the first time Ricky came over he said "you have a cat, don't you?" And noel just kinda looked at him like ???? Before eventually saying "yes... But how did you know that?"
- he loves rain and thunderstorms from the comfort of his home but will literally not be caught DEAD stepping foot outside in it without an umbrella + rain boots + jacket because he doesn't want his clothes to get wet. And he's real for this
- speaking of noel and being dead (I am a god of segues), before he left for school the day of the accident he said these exact words to his mom: "farewell mother. I'm off to die in a tragic accident, don't wait up for me, for I will not return to you in this lifetime"
- this would have been a common way for him to say goodbye to her, and she would always roll her eyes and say "oh how will I go on without you! Surely the grief would be too much for me to bear! I shall stay up at night, clutching an article of your clothing as a single limpid tear rolls down my cheek" And then laugh and tell him to be safe
- and then he actually dies in a tragic accident
- oops #rip
- I don't know why, but imagining Noel's mother after the accident always made me so much sadder than the rest of the choir 😭 I just imagine that they were super duper close for basically his whole life
- also, despite yearning for this whole tragic life I feel like he's super squeamish?? He cannot stand the sight of blood or vomit
- maybe in his fantasy part of that is he can actually handle the things that end up happening in the movies he likes
- also I refuse to believe that their favorite rides aren't somewhat related to something that happened the day of the fair itself
- what I'm saying is basically he rode the ferris wheel with Mischa and almost lost his god damn mind
- it would have been so romantic if he knew his crush was probably mutual
- and finally. Nischa holding onto each other for dear life when things started going wrong and having to be pulled apart post mortem
Thank you for your time this is literally so long and I could come up with so many more

Have you ever had hard time to enter a fandom that is your whole world in your childhood? So I first watch One Piece when I was 6 about 20 years ago, and I really love it (have the tshirt, shoes, manga, etc). And I followed it until I finished high school. But then I suddenly lose interest. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it, just don't want to enter to that fandom again. My anime/manga moots now, don't even know that I used to love One Piece.
What do you think is wrong with me? I still watch the new movie if it came out in the cinema and I don't mind to know the update or spoiler of the story, I just don't want to watch the series or read the manga again. I'm weird, right?
I found your blog because of your JJK posts (now I'm into JJK and have at least 4 ships that I really love) also from you I know that Law got turned to a woman (like really)...
And if you aks me, I have ships (mostly mlm and wlw) from any fandom of manga and anime that I consume, except if those series are from my childhood. Like, I can't seem to ship Zoro and Sanji or any other character from OP because in my mind they are all platonic. But you gave me anime/manga that have a little bit bromance, and I'll ship them of course.
After talk it out, I must look really strange to you right? Sorry for this silly ask. Thanks for your blog, I love them. Also, thank you for your anime/manga recs. As BokuAka shipper that last ask of yours really made me happy that they are at least canon-ish....
I don't really think this is weird at all because this happened to me with a different fandom lol. It wasn't a show, but from ages 11-18/19 I was OBSESSED with kpop. I bought the albums and the merch when I could, my original tumblr blog was an Exo blog with about 900ish followers, it was all I listened to for years. And then one day I just stopped. I certainly was sick of kpop fans but nothing major happened for me to lose interest, I just kind of moved on. It happens. And while I still listen to some kpop, it's all the old stuff that I used to like, I don't go and venture out for new music or interact with any fandom with it now. It's the exact same situation you described I think, I don't hate it! But I have zero interest to rejoin the fandom because I do have issues with it and any kind of interaction is just for me at this point. (The next part is about One Piece specifically so I'm gonna put a cut here cause I wrote a lot lmao)
In regards to One Piece specifically, I think I understand where you're coming from. One, it seems like a lot of fans have lost interest at some point (usually between Fishman Island-Dressrosa, or maybe even up to WCI) and some pick it back up, and some don't. And I get that! I think I came into it at the perfect time where even if there is an arc I don't like as much, I always had Wano and Egghead to look forward to, and the end is now in sight. And reading week to week is always going to be a different experience than blitzing through the series like I did. Fortunately Egghead is amazing week to week, this is some of Oda's best work, but if I had to read week to week during, say, Punk Hazard or Dressrosa, yeah I would have complaints and most likely lose interest lmao. I don't know if this was your experience, but you definitely aren't the only one to have lost interest.
The fandom...yeah I have issues lol, particularly with fans from the West. I went to Japan this summer (before starting One Piece) and looking back it stood out to me that One Piece is EVERYWHERE and it's something that everyone loves regardless of age and gender. There were One Piece themed stores I went into where old ladies and middle aged men and little girls were all clearly invested in this series, and from what I've heard the consensus in Japan is that this series is enjoyed by families. I bring that up because the conversation around One Piece is OVERWHELMINGLY dominated by cishet men, usually in their mid 20s to mid 30s, and it shows. I think it is starting to shift to where there's more diversity in the fandom (or at least seen diversity) but man does it have a long way to go. I'm not impressed by how the fandom has reacted to trans characters, in particular Yamato, a trans male character in Wano where you have people still to this day scream about how he is a woman and will die on that hill. I think the whitewashing should of started being a conversation ten years ago instead of the last year or two. I think the issue of sexism within One Piece is complex, and it's not afforded the nuance it deserves from either side. I've stated multiple times I'm not a fan of powerscaling, but oh god is it terrible here, where it has somehow become prioritized for so many fans, even if it doesn't make sense from a narrative or character perspective. And maybe it's an overall media literacy problem, and I really don't mean to come off as a snob here because I certainly don't pick up on everything, but it's insane how many fans do not pick up on the core themes of the series, and just like it for...the fights. All of this to say, I have frustration as well with this fandom.
With the shipping, just always remember that they are ultimately headcanons, and you never have to agree with a headcanon to enjoy something, even if the headcanon is popular. One Piece can be tricky because I very much understand the desire to view things strictly as platonic, and in fact in canon this is what I want, I don't want any of my ships to be confirmed lmao. Where I get hung up a little bit though is that I think multiple characters in the series are queer coded, whether intentional or not. Of course there are the intentional ones like Iva and Bon Clay and Kiku, but I do genuinely believe a lot of the strawhats are queer coded as well, in particular Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Sanji, and Franky. I would be happy to expand on that more in another ask if you would like. But with these characters being queer coded, or at the very least they can be read that way, shipping seems like a natural progression for many fans, even if there is no romantic subtext to speak of. So all in all, I totally understand why shipping is a no go for you with One Piece, but this is my general thought process as I do ship some characters in the series.
TLDR anon is that I don't think you're strange at all, we gain and lose interest in things all of the time, and your concerns with the fandom and the series as a whole are valid I think, I've thought about a lot of the same stuff you have listed here even though I am a big fan.
