Disability Pride Month: Genre Fiction Recommendations
Noor by Nnedi Okorafor
Anwuli Okwudili prefers to be called AO. To her, these initials have always stood for Artificial Organism. AO has never really felt...natural, and that's putting it lightly. Her parents spent most of the days before she was born praying for her peaceful passing because even in-utero she was "wrong". But she lived. Then came the car accident years later that disabled her even further. Yet instead of viewing her strange body the way the world views it, as freakish, unnatural, even the work of the devil, AO embraces all that she is: A woman with a ton of major and necessary body augmentations. And then one day she goes to her local market and everything goes wrong.
Once on the run, she meets a Fulani herdsman named DNA and the race against time across the deserts of Northern Nigeria begins. In a world where all things are streamed, everyone is watching the "reckoning of the murderess and the terrorist" and the "saga of the wicked woman and mad man" unfold. This fast-paced, relentless journey of tribe, destiny, body, and the wonderland of technology revels in the fact that the future sometimes isn't so predictable. Expect the unaccepted.
Fortune Favors the Dead by Stephen Spotswood
It's 1942 and Willowjean "Will" Parker is a scrappy circus runaway whose knife-throwing skills have just saved the life of New York's best, and most unorthodox, private investigator, Lillian Pentecost. When the dapper detective summons Will a few days later, she doesn't expect to be offered a life-changing proposition: Lillian's multiple sclerosis means she can't keep up with her old case load alone, so she wants to hire Will to be her right-hand woman. In return, Will is to receive a salary, room and board, and training in Lillian's very particular art of investigation.
Three years later, Will and Lillian are on the Collins case: Abigail Collins was found bludgeoned to death with a crystal ball following a big, boozy Halloween party at her home—her body slumped in the same chair where her steel magnate husband shot himself the year before. With rumors flying that Abigail was bumped off by the vengeful spirit of her husband (who else could have gotten inside the locked room?), the family has tasked the detectives with finding answers where the police have failed.
But that's easier said than done in a case that involves messages from the dead, a seductive spiritualist, and Becca Collins—the beautiful daughter of the deceased, who Will quickly starts falling for. When Will and Becca's relationship dances beyond the professional, Will finds herself in dangerous territory, and discovers she may have become the murderer's next target.
This is the first volume of the “Pentecost and Parker” series.
Borderline by Mishell Baker
A year ago, Millie lost her legs and her filmmaking career in a failed suicide attempt. Just when she’s sure the credits have rolled on her life story, she gets a second chance with the Arcadia Project: a secret organization that polices the traffic to and from a parallel reality filled with creatures straight out of myth and fairy tales.
For her first assignment, Millie is tasked with tracking down a missing movie star who also happens to be a nobleman of the Seelie Court. To find him, she’ll have to smooth-talk Hollywood power players and uncover the surreal and sometimes terrifying truth behind the glamour of Tinseltown. But stronger forces than just her inner demons are sabotaging her progress, and if she fails to unravel the conspiracy behind the noble’s disappearance, not only will she be out on the streets, but the shattering of a centuries-old peace could spark an all-out war between worlds.
No pressure.
This is the first volume of the “Arcadia Project” series.
The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang
Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases—a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.
It doesn't help that Stella has Asperger's and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice—with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can't afford to turn down Stella's offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan—from foreplay to more-than-missionary position...
Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but crave all of the other things he's making her feel. Their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic...
This is the first volume of the “Kiss Quotient” series.

Don’t know if anyone will respond but I’m looking for a wattpad fanfic that’s about jhope from Bts, would appreciate it if anyone knew what the title was❤️
From what I can remember about the story is
Jhope and the reader (she has a crush on him) are child good friends but haven’t spoken for a long time but then she becomes the choreographer for Bts and helps them with dances, but then Bts goes on tore and she goes with them but she and jhope share a bunk thing in the bus. Then the next day she over hears him talking to another member about how humiliating it was and she gets pissed but after a few chapters they make up. Also further into the story the reader breaks her leg and then jhope gets her fired and she goes to work and another company with nct ( i think)
But the fanfic was unfinished and the last chapter was smut of the reader and jhope

I have been thinking and yknow what I would love to see? Especially on whumblr?
A toxic relationship where nobody is ~evil~ or cruel or even has malicious intentions.
Just two people who are drawn to each other and maybe even love each other but are not getting A’s in therapy and are being unfair.
I especially would love to see it in a Whumpee/Caretaker context where whumpee is, yes, traumatized, but that leads to them treating Caretaker poorly. And Caretaker isn’t a full-on whumper, but they don’t magically always get everything just right, and some of their mistakes or loss of patience or whatever is actually damaging.
Anyone know of any writing like that?

My 2023 TBR (5/12)
These are all classics I have yet to read (other than Wuthering Heights- this is one of my new copies). I included this copy of Wuthering Heights because I want to reread it next year since I might be doing my master’s thesis on it.

The Struggles of Being a Book Lover
There are three books in my backpack right now. All of which I am currently reading. 'Tomie' by Junji Ito (manga), 'The Tattooist of Auschwitz' by Heather Morris, and 'Doctor Sleep' by Stephen King. I'm not the type of reader who can read and understand three stories all at once, but this time around is different. I have a lot of downtime at work, which can lead me to become incredibly bored. I'll read one of those books for a period of time, get a tad bit bored, and move to the next one. However, boredom is not the only factor. I haven't read a book since 2020... I know... crazy. So maybe I'm having book withdrawals and just need alllll the books haha. I just picked up Dune. I should wait to finish the other books before I start the chunky one!

Just One More Page's March Photo Book Challenge
Tumblr media
March 3, 2023 - Intersectional Feminism
This one has been wandering around my TBR since I heard it had a Lipsn Apache asexual main character. There are few YA books about Native Americans and there seem to be even fewer about does who are asexual, so to have one that had both in the main character seemed a good place to start.
That, and a kicking magic system. This book, will unfortunately, probably stay on my TBR for a bit longer. Or I just might change my mind for the March TBR and see where takes me instead.
Have you read Elatsoe? What did you think of it? Would you recommend me adding it to my TBR for this month?

Read-Alike Friday: Atalanta by Jennifer Saint
The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec
Angrboda's story begins where most witches' tales end: with a burning. A punishment from Odin for refusing to provide him with knowledge of the future, the fire leaves Angrboda injured and powerless, and she flees into the farthest reaches of a remote forest. There she is found by a man who reveals himself to be Loki, and her initial distrust of him transforms into a deep and abiding love.
Their union produces three unusual children, each with a secret destiny, who Angrboda is keen to raise at the edge of the world, safely hidden from Odin's all-seeing eye. But as Angrboda slowly recovers her prophetic powers, she learns that her blissful life—and possibly all of existence—is in danger.
With help from the fierce huntress Skadi, with whom she shares a growing bond, Angrboda must choose whether she’ll accept the fate that she's foreseen for her beloved family…or rise to remake their future. From the most ancient of tales this novel forges a story of love, loss, and hope for the modern age.
Ithaca by Clarie North
Seventeen years ago, King Odysseus sailed to war with Troy, taking with him every man of fighting age from the island of Ithaca. None of them has returned, and the women of Ithaca have been left behind to run the kingdom.
Penelope was barely into womanhood when she wed Odysseus. While he lived, her position was secure. But now, years on, speculation is mounting that her husband is dead, and suitors are beginning to knock at her door.
No one man is strong enough to claim Odysseus' empty throne—not yet. But everyone waits for the balance of power to tip, and Penelope knows that any choice she makes could plunge Ithaca into bloody civil war. Only through cunning, wit, and her trusted circle of maids, can she maintain the tenuous peace needed for the kingdom to survive.
This is the first volume in “The Songs of Penelope” series.
Phaedra by Laura Shepperson
Phaedra has been cast to the side all her life: daughter of an adulteress, sister of a monster, and now unwilling bride to the much-older, power-hungry Theseus. Young, naïve, and idealistic, she has accepted her lot in life, resigned to existing under the sinister weight of Theseus’s control and the constant watchful eye of her handsome stepson Hippolytus.
When supposedly pious Hippolytus assaults her, Phaedra’s world is darkened in the face of untouchable, prideful power. In the face of injustice, Phaedra refuses to remain quiet any longer: such an awful truth demands to be brought to light. When Phaedra publicly accuses Hippolytus of rape, she sparks an overdue reckoning.
The men of Athens gather to determine the truth. Meanwhile, the women of the city, who have no vote, are gathering in the shadows. The women know truth is a slippery thing in the hands of men. There are two sides to every story, and theirs has gone unheard. Until now.
Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Sue Lynn Tan
Growing up on the moon, Xingyin is accustomed to solitude, unaware that she is being hidden from the feared Celestial Emperor who exiled her mother for stealing his elixir of immortality. But when Xingyin’s magic flares and her existence is discovered, she is forced to flee her home, leaving her mother behind.
Alone, powerless, and afraid, she makes her way to the Celestial Kingdom, a land of wonder and secrets. Disguising her identity, she seizes an opportunity to learn alongside the emperor's son, mastering archery and magic, even as passion flames between her and the prince.
To save her mother, Xingyin embarks on a perilous quest, confronting legendary creatures and vicious enemies across the earth and skies. But when treachery looms and forbidden magic threatens the kingdom, she must challenge the ruthless Celestial Emperor for her dream—striking a dangerous bargain in which she is torn between losing all she loves or plunging the realm into chaos.
This is the first volume in “The Celestial Kingdom Duology” series.

Hello my lovelies!
Someone messaged me saying they found it difficult to find certain older media, particularly Manga and Anime, so I figured I’d make a post.
This is far from everything - I’m good at finding stuff - but I can always make more posts or an updated post with more stuff on it.
So!
Gundam
The Giant F - You Gundam (of multiple types) Text Collection Archive (Downloads)
Gundam Wing Anime In Japanese With Subtitles In Various Languages (Remastered, 720p) (Free Streaming)
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Anime Japanese With English Subtitles (Download)
Sailor Moon
Sailor Moon Original 90s English Dub in 1080p
This looks like a good stopping point for now, but honestly I’ve got a lot of different stuff or know where to find it. The free App RetroCrush also has free streaming of a bunch of 90s anime, and there’s a few archives of movies and OVAs I can make a separate post about if y’all are interested.
