Had to redesign the Pink Lantern symbol.

It's inspired by [this paper lantern] in shape. It gives it a heart shape and makes it look like a lantern to better fit the rest of the lantern logos. (red looks like a flashlight lol)

A neat concept I have for the Pink Lanterns is that like.. They're all just called Pink/Violet Lanterns, however, Carol defected and encouraged some others to defect as well from the Pink Corps and created their own little sub corps, the Star Sapphires, and as a result, the symbol on the ring and their suits changed to the official DC design as it looks like the explosion of a lantern. It would be cool to see Carol's defecting cause the lantern symbol on her ring "burst" with light and become what DC has. It would be.. symbolic--

jokes aside, I'm quite proud of this although some lines could be more uniform and thicker, I don't have any program to make proper vectors to do that.

Ah, the garf. The lazy cat who loves lasagna and kicking the shit out of the mailman. While it may seem that there isn't enough personality in this cat to give Garfield a ring, there is one thing that proves there's more to him than meets the eye: his hatred of Mondays. Garfield doesn't have a job, or any particular reason to hate Monday over other days, except that Jon goes back to work then. Garfield misses his owner after spending the weekend together, showing just how much he loves him.

You’re all going to be seeing these back to back (thank you queue,) but I wrote the Star Sapphire Damian post last week and have been doing more research on the corps. And honestly, I like it even better now?

First of all, ever since I found out how Lantern rings work (that is, being drawn towards the entities most filled with/fueled by/capable of inspiring the emotion the ring represents,) I’ve been really curious about what happens if someone doesn’t agree with the main philosophy of the corps, but the ring was drawn to them anyway. Because the Green Lantern ring only cares about strength of willpower, but the Green Lantern Corps is a political faction with its own rules, principles, etc. What if someone had one of the strongest wills in the multiverse but when they find out about all the other stuff they’re just like, “Nah. I’m good.”  …I mean, in the case of the Green Lanterns, I’m sure they all team up to take that person down and take back the ring. But literally what is stopping the ring from just flying back to that person? Or one of the other rings just flying about? And some of the other corps seem to place a much higher value on their core emotion than the rules they have in place, so would they let that person keep a ring that had decided that person was worthy even if that person wouldn’t follow their rules? (I am 100% certain this has been addressed in the comics at some point, but I don’t know where to even start to look for it.)

What I’m saying is: Damian doesn’t have to agree with the Star Sapphires’ policies as an organization to get the powers. Which is good, because Damian definitely would not be down for the whole brainwash-recruitment strategy. But he is still full of love & loss, he’s still driven by it, he’s still willing to make huge sacrifices for the sake of those he loves (case in point: as far as Damian’s concerned, none of his family even know he exists at this point in time, and by pursuing such a dramatically different path Damian can never recover even a facsimile of those relationships—the context is just too different, there’s no way they’ll ever see/treat him the same way they did before.) (Which is just some delicious dramatic irony. Especially because I get to reward Damian with people who did live through many of those things with him, and who care about him & understand him the very way he thought he was giving up forever. Much more damaged, scarred, and emotionally shredded versions of those people, but those people all the same. Who will be just as happy to see Damian as he is to see them, because each & every one of them lost him before and probably thought they had again when they found out the League was burning & Damian was fully MIA.)

BACK ON TOPIC! Damian is filled with love & loss, and could absolutely draw in a Violet Lantern ring. And the Sapphires seem to be one of those corps who care more about the purity & power of the emotion felt rather than the rules they follow, so there is a solid argument for them letting him keep it. And it would give Damian the equipment to personally stop the invasion, because he could force the generic Evil Alien Overlord to experience all the pain they made Damian go through. Not in a brainwashy way, but more in a, “Let me help you make a more informed decision by showing you what you actually do to people in your quest for conquest. Let’s see if you still want to pursue the same path after witnessing the other side,” sort of way. (Is that more of a compassion thing? Yeah, but you can’t tell me the Sapphires can force feelings of love into people to bend their wills and not expect me to believe they can make them feel other emotions tied to love, especially when having loved & lost is one of the things the rings prioritize.)

This requires me to make the non-green Lantern corps a much longer-standing thing than they canonically are, but fuck it, that’s a retcon that should’ve been made long ago; it does not make sense for the Green Lanterns to be this centuries-old organization and all the other (supposedly equally powerful & important) emotions only getting rings & corps in the most modern last few years.  Plus, it means Earth’s primary Violet Lantern would be a very, very small child, and I think that’s hilarious. He’s gonna adopt Dex-Starr, and then they’ll both make Hal Jordon look like somehow the least competent Earth representative.

Emotional Spectrum thoughts

When it comes to the "Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum", you usually are told that Rage, Avarice, and Fear are the "bad emotions" and Hope, Compassion, and Love are the "good emotions". Will being neutral (of sorts). Well, with the exception of Avarice, each emotion has its good and evil (often times it's something disguised as that emotion) uses.

Anger

Good uses: Anger, when used constructively, can lead to positive change and the elimination of evil. If someone does something bad (not necessarily illegal), but doesn't get punished for it, you feel angry at that injustice. If something evil happens, you feel angry at what happened and would be motivated to help. Or even form a protest. Another good example of this good anger is when you catch your S/O cheating on you.

Evil uses: Anger that's not controlled or tempered leads to indiscriminate destruction. It's what causes people to justify their acts of violence, and escalation, all in the name of justice. It's how riots are formed. Or even being mad at someone for holding a different opinion than yours.

Fear

Good uses: A healthy fear is needed in day-to-day life. It's what helps keep us out of danger. Without this healthy fear, we would probably just go out and pet wild animals or play in traffic.

Evil uses: Fear becomes bad when it's used to control others, and not for their own benefit. Don't do this and you'll be safer (deterrence) vs. Do this, or we'll take everything from you (coercion). This kind of fear is the weapon of tyrants.

Will

Good uses: When used correctly, willpower gives you the ability to face the bad cases of fear. To stand up for what's right (not necessarily what's popular). To keep yourself going even when the going gets tough.

Evil uses: Willpower becomes a detriment when used to dominate others. Or you become stubborn and unwilling to change, even if overwhelming evidence shows you're wrong.

Hope

Good uses: When one has the right hope, it motivates them to persevere, be creative, and have the courage to pursue your goals and aspirations.

Evil uses: Delusion can disguise itself as hope. It can blind them to reality and prevent them from changing. It leads to denial, unrealistic expectations, and disappointment.

Compassion

First and foremost, I'd like to get this out of the way. You can be empathetic but not compassionate. And you can be compassionate but not empathetic. Too many people nowadays confuse these two.

Good uses: Compassion simply says, "You're suffering, here let me help you." Which can be done in a multitude of ways. It's kindness and altruism. You might not fully understand what the person is going through, but you still desire to help them.

Evil uses: Compassion goes awry when others take advantage of that for selfish reasons or enabling behavior "Do this or I'll kill myself". It leads to emotional exhaustion and being taken advantage of.

Love

Good uses: Love, real love, wants what's best for someone. It wants them to be the best person they can be. It's not just a chemical in the brain. When you love someone, be it a friend, family member, or even a spouse. You are sometimes hard on them when they're doing something to their detriment. You are patient with them, you forgive them when they've wronged you. Love is what motivates you to protect them, to put your trust and hope in them, to try and make things work even when aren't going the best. Love is more than skin deep.

There's a reason it's said "For better or for worse" during a wedding.

Evil uses: Lust frequently disguises itself as love. Sure you might have a physical relationship with someone, but that doesn't mean you love them. Lust tends to focus on the "instant gratification" of pleasure rather than making an emotional connection. And while the feeling of passion might be strong for a season or two, they're going to eventually fall away. It's so good at disguising itself as love because it preys upon our needs for emotional connection/intimacy. It can cause one to ignore red flags in the relationship. Lust is only skin deep.

Green Lantern Villain Movie Ideas, Part IV: Star Sapphire

Carol Ferris AKA Star Sapphire is best known as Hal Jordan's complicated love interest, but also as the main face of the Violet Lanterns, also known as the Star Sapphires, a corps of warrior women founded by the Zamarons, counterparts of the Guardians, who utilize the power of love for their rings. Carol started out as Hal's childhood friend, before having to take over her father's business following her mother's passing, creating a rift between her and Hal. Over the years, she has been both a villain and hero at different points in time.

Origin Movie: I would generally prefer her to be a sequel villain, giving us time to establish the relationship between her and Hal first and what drove her to join the Star Sapphires, but if, say, the origin featured both a Green Ring and a Violet Ring ending up on Earth at the same time, it could be a great character drama between the two.

Sequel Movie: I much prefer this, as we can set up Hal and Carol initially and the tension between them, having him face Atrocitus and Sinestro or something, and then have a post-credits scene where she is presented with a violet ring. Then the sequel could be a much more personally driven story between them.

Finale Movie: I guess you could build up to her getting the ring in the finale, it just feels like either of the previous two would be a better fit.

Supporting Villain: She could always simply be a supporting character, say in a movie centered around someone like John Stewart or Kyle Rayner, where most of the different corps are already established, and her corps appears among them.

Overall, her are my rankings of them:

Sequel Movie: In fact, that's my current leader for the series.

Origin Movie: Not as good, but it could work.

Supporting Villain: A little boring place for her, but it's there.

Finale Movie: There are better options.
