For the first time in 12 years, I'm updating my Tumblr profile pic. Not only has my use of Tumblr DRASTICALLY expanded since I joined (I originally signed up so I could RB and comment on the probably three dozen "Ask Twilight Sparkle" blogs that were running at the time), but I'm no longer all about the "All American Celestia" anymore. Not that I don't love my country (to borrow a phrase), but there's just so MUCH shit going on, plus we have new Trek that's really brought me back to my love of the show and its fandom, She-ra is my brain rot, and The Locked Tomb just has the perfect amount of "fuck the system" mixed with a love story and characters grappling with a sense of duty to a system they realize isn't necessarily built to serve them anymore...if it ever was.

SPOP And Queer Joy Tw for transphobia, the Daily Wire, and getting kicked in the nuts
I was watching the most recent video from Some More News about a deeply stupid and bad and transphobic film from the daily wire called Ladyballers, and there was a scene they talked about where one of the main characters who was a guy that has been disguised as a woman for a couple weeks in order to win a woman's basketball tournament realizes he might actually be trans, and confesses this to the basketball coach who is his old friend and came up with the idea. The basketball coach then tells the trans character that she doesn't understand her own feelings and that the coach will help her figure it out. When she continues to insist that she's a trans woman, the coach kicks her in the nuts. And this made me realize the whole conservative mindset is based on an authority figure convincing people under them that they don't understand their own feelings and they don't know who they are, but the authority figure does. And the point of it all is to make someone never trust themselves or their own feelings ever.
And then I thought of the ending of She-Ra.
And I finally get why it felt so right and so triumphant and so different. Catra and Adora have been living with Shadow Weaver their whole lives, and Shadow Weaver has constantly been telling them who they're supposed to be, and it hurts both of them so much over the course of the series because Adora keeps trying to fit herself into that mold better (is helped in this endeavor by light hope) while catra is trying to break out of her mold to put herself in Adora's as the golden child
And then hoard Prime shows up as the ultimate example of an authority figure insisting that you don't understand yourself with the chips, which are literally a direct physical implementation of that idea!
And in what both of them think are their final moments alive, they kill the shadow Weaver in their heads, trust themselves to know who they are, and do what they've wanted to do the whole time. Catra stops trying to prove herself and admits that she cares and wants to just be enough without having to try. She stops caring about whether she's weak and says she loves someone. Adora stops trying to be the self-sacrificing hero and acknowledges that she can care about other people differently than just having to save them and she finally takes something she wants without worrying about the consequences.
They both say "screw authority, I know who I am and I'm going to let that out" because they both think they're about to die. And that one tiny moment of rebellion and understanding saves the entire goddamn universe. It terrifies Prime to the point that he can't even comprehend what's happened, and then it obliterates him and frees everyone he's ever hurt. It fixes everything
That one moment of queer Joy, even at the very end of the world, is all that it took.

For the character bingo
Adora
Glimmer
Luz
Amity
Any of the mane 6 from mlp
I don't watch MLP so just doing the ones I know. First off, Adora:
Tumblr media
Before anyone gets confused by canon focus what I mean is. We don't really get an episode focused on how Adora feels about the catradora split like we do with Catra, or about her own trauma, which I think is a missed opportunity. Also she's just. I fucking love her. I relate to her so hard. She's so flawed and scared and just a kid who was taught to feel guilty for wanting to be happy and her trope subversion makes me eat GLASS. I love her so much. The fandom is so fucking weird about her. Good god.
Glimmer:
Tumblr media
I NEVER see fan shit about how fucking fascinating she is and it's a damn shame. The daughter of an immortal who was never prepared to be queen suddenly has to rule over an entire kingdom. Child general mistaking her mother's rightful concern for distrust. Has a black and white view of rebellion good, horde bad, no matter what either side does. Has an arc about learning morals and to be a good person and not let her rage cloud her judgement. She's so FASCINATING she's a ball of stress and insecurity and she's just. Such a good character. Where's my fics about her.
Luz:
Tumblr media
I'm not as insane over her specifically moreso I go !!!! over her in a part of a dynamic. But I do love her so much. I love how she foils Belos and how her dynamic with Hunter is to show that the wittebros didn't HAVE to end in tragedy. I love her dynamic with Amity, it's such a realistically healthy relationship that makes me so fucking happy that kids are gonna grow up with that. I love her dynamic with Willow and Luz, I love the owl family, I just love ALL of it. I love her so much. I will always read her as a trans allegory. You can't stop me.
Amity:
Tumblr media
Amity is unfairly bashed on and I will never forgive the fandom for it. None of the dudes are bashed nearly as hard as her. Leave her alone!!! Also I just. God. I love her. She's so good. She's trying so hard. I love my girl. I LOVEEEE my girl.

My Hero Academia
How to do last minute representation the right way
Tumblr media
A meta post that I’ve been thinking about for a while, and I think I finally have the right words.
First, let's establish the terms I will be using and how they apply to other shows.
Open representation
Open representation, in this case, is a show that from start to finish is openly queer and never tries to hide that. The first ones that come to mind are Steven Universe, Shera, Sasaki to Miyano, or the owl house. They will have queer representation throughout the show, though may hook people in first by not making the characters openly queer in the first few episodes. This is usually done through a beard of some kind. Connie for Steven, the fantasy dude for Luz, bow for adora, etc. They don't necessarily have to be important to the MC's love life at all, (like how bow is glimmers love interest or that connie and steven legitimately are love interests) they simply have to make the illusion of a non queer show to prove that the show is STILL good, with or without it.
Tumblr media
Explicit representation
I think sasaki to miyano actually fits better here, as the thing that defines this representation is that it never tries to hide the queerness. BL usually goes here because of what the genre is born out of. Which is, usually, oppressed groups finding comfort in certain media. Not a lot of popular shows/comics are in the "explicit representation" section unless it's from an indie author. Or, on the rare occasion, published by a big manga company. The only time these works are easily published is when it's nsfw, because of the yaoi/yuri industry. These works aren't very popular most of the time because they have to appeal to a straight audience, and it's hard to do that with explicitly queer shows.
There are exceptions to the rule of course, like heart stopper or, once again sasaki to miyano, and that's because straight women are able to project and/or fetishize the characters. They will also have a token straight couple sometimes, like heart stopper, in order to appeal to the non gay audience. Or be able to fetishize the main couple because they have something that allows them to see the couple through heterosexual eyes. Like miyano and sasaki's height difference. Maybe they will add something onto them to make them more masculine to fight this, like miyano's hate for sweet things and sasaki's love of it. But ultimately people will just see this as "breaking gender norms" instead of just two gay men.
Tumblr media
However, it was also the only reason they COULD get the show green-lit. No matter what, these shows will have to find a way to appeal to a straight audience. It's just how the world works. It sucks, but it's true.
Queer coding or coded representation
This genre of queerness usually fits shonen/shoujo anime. Think death note, hunter x hunter, madoka magica, sk8 the infinity or kakegurui. Though it also fits a lot of western cartoons like infinity train, star vs the forces of evil, and gravity falls. The thing that defines this representation is that it's never explicitly said. It's what makes this representation so frustrating, as it directly appeals to a straight audience, while still grabbing a major queer audience. The straight audience can write it off as being accidental or even say it doesn't exist. That the queer audience is "looking into it too much".
What's even more frustrating about this is that it actually had to happen in order for us to have representation at all. Gravity falls laid out the footsteps so that the owl house could actually BE A SHOW! These shows fight tooth and nail for it to be written the way they want it to be, like making marco a latina trans woman, and in the end, they were never able to make it openly queer the way they wanted it to be.
Tumblr media
Accidental representation
On paper, this concept is hilarious, but it's also the most frustrating thing in the world. Accidental representation is honestly just a big phenomenon called "homosociality". angy-grrr explains this concept in this post (https://angy-grrr.tumblr.com/post/690891053818134528/bakudeku-in-bnha-another-case-of-the) But if you don't feel like reading that at the moment and just wanna know what this term means, I'll explain it. It is intimate social connections between the same sex, usually it's used to understand masculinity from a psychological standpoint. It's also used to understand hegemonic masculinity; the idea that there are different forms of masculinity across many cultures and points of time. Essentially, men who are in a male only space because they don't want women to "invade their space" feels inherently gay. (Edit, please look at the post right after this one on my page, I explained this a little wrong and was corrected, PLEASE READ IT GOD DONT SPREAD MISINFORMATION-)
Regardless, shonen anime usually falls into this category. Like Naruto, dragon ball z, or saiki. Sometimes western cartoons can also fit this category, like dipper being accidental trans coding, or rapunzel from tangled ever after being accidental sapphic coding.
What this representation is defined by is the author simply making a lapse in judgement for their own show. They accidentally make the rivals to friends a little too queer because they will show an intimacy the main character can not share with his female love interest, and instead give it to his rival. This is often born out of ignorance; when a straight person creates a show and instead of sharing intimate friendships, it shows intimate relationships. They will try to fight toxic masculinity by showing they can hug and be vulnerable with their male friends and rivals. Essentially, a "romantic scene" is not actually romantic because there are two male characters. That is the only thing that separates his rival/best friend from his love interest.
It boils down to men not being allowed to have intimate relationships and women can be as intimate as they want to be to practice for boys.
The gender binary is so interesting isn't it?
Last minute representation
FINALLY, we're here. Last minute representation. Last minute representation is honestly the most common one. Gravity falls, madoka, adventure time, shera, dead end paranormal park and many many more have last minute representation. This is because of two factors. One, that shows IN GENERAL have their characters get together at the end, a very common aspect in story telling. The "happily ever after" part. Of course happily ever after doesn't exist, there's always another day after the end of a story. This is just a general writing pet peeve, but making a kids show with yet ANOTHER "happily ever after" is kinda stupid as it doesn't properly teach children that relationships take work and are complicated. It shows a small portion into what goes into a relationship, the confession. It's part of the reason why I want to create my own children's show, but anyway, that's not really the point.
The other reason shows often have last minute representation is because a show can no longer be canceled. For example, SU was actually gonna have a whole other season after season 5, but because the show aired the first ever gay marriage on TV for children, cartoon network was banned from hosting the show in a lot of countries. That's why the ending arc feels so rushed; because it was. That's why shows leave it to the very last minute, so that they can finish their story while still adding the LGBTQ rep they wanted to add into the show.
How does this relate to My Hero Academia?
Simple, my hero is going to do last minute representation correctly for once. The problem with last minute rep is that it entirely is dictated by pandering to the company who publishes your work, along with attracting an audience it doesn't necessarily need.
MHA did create a beard character for their main character, yes, but it did so in a way that completely erases the idea of shonen. Shonen is inherently pandering to the male gaze, the heterosexual society around it, yet it has always tried to stand out against other shonens.
What makes My Hero unique, is the fact that it never tried to be anything it wasn't.
It always showed you the love interest of the story, it never once lied to your face. The entirety of izuku and Katsuki's characters have always been gay.
Obsessed with someone
The other half of them
Everything they ever wished to be is what the other person is
They envied everything that they stood for
It was always in your face, we just chose to ignore it.
Not only that but Katsuki and Izuku have acted like a troubled married couple FROM THE START! Their relationship has always been about nuance and learning to be better. They have always acted like they were in a relationship, and that's why they're such a popular ship.
Horikoshi has enough of an audience that if shonen jump didn’t let him publish the two of them being gay, he would just do it without a publishing company. He’s got the money, fans, and the show. Plus, shonen jump would just lose money. It would be a lose lose situation.
They stood as the "male couple that ended up having more chemistry than the love interest" AND as the "they might be canon" couple.
Horikoshi was able to show that men can be intimate by not fighting homosociality.

Reliving this is a trip. I was an interesting feeling the first time thru, and I'm not saying that to humorously downplay a horrific situation. It drew out a little bit of sympathy for Catra I really thought I'd used up by that point, if only cuz what Prime does is really that vile. That's super unusual for me. I went in rooting for Adora to take back someone she cared about, not necessarily cuz it was Catra specifically if you know what I mean, but this got me to want Catra rescued weirdly well. I almost never feel for villains at their nadir like this.
Twisted how empathetic paragon heroes like Adora are among my most treasured characters in fiction, yet I suck at extending the same sympathy they can. You're supposed to see characters like Catra (or Azula or Bakugou or whoever you please) going thru awful things as flawed people with interior lives and subject to exterior circumstances that the heroes are kind/strong/savvy enough to see and incorporate into their responses and my knee jerk is still "fuck off with the pity party, get to the atonement." Or in a lot of cases to laugh while they're down. I always sabotage myself by seeing the author making horrible things happen to the rival/villains, and contrasting them with worse villains, as a cynical tactic to get me and the heroes to sympathize before they've started changing for the better.
It helped that Catra already saved Glimmer at her own peril, and Adora already would've saved Catra no matter what, but still. This is a big reason why villain mind control is one of my least fave tropes. Manipulation and coercion are all good because meaningful agency and responsibility are still there even if characters can't see it, and that is everything in my eyes. To me mind control is the writer hitting pause on a character's growth til a more convenient time in the plot. Or just forever. *cough*🌊🦂🧙‍♂️.
Most of my appreciation for pre-s5 Catra only built up in retrospect through meta-posts and following fanworks like this. So seriously thank you for this series; it's like experiencing the series as it was intended for the first time, weird as that sounds.
You're version of this sequence is as skin-crawling as I think we all could've hoped/feared. Prime is the worst kind of living scum. Great work. Now I can start counting down to the "you miscalculated." scene. Aimee Carrero crushed that line. Can't wait for your version. Positively dancing with anticipation.
It is - at least to me - a really interesting point for Catra to be at, narratively speaking, because it shows the dialectic in her journey. She both did and didn't "bring it upon herself" - yes, she tried to get in Prime's good books, but no, she didn't ask to be chipped. Yes, she saved Glimmer against his instruction, but no, she didn't know the full consequences of what that would do. And when you get people on different sides of the argument, some saying "poor meowmeow didn't deserve this" and others saying, "She's reaping what she's sown", actually they're both right, in this way.
I don't think it would have worked going straight to the atonement, anyway. We don't have these scenes to revel in the depth of her lowest point, we have them to show how bad, how inescapable it was - and then we set up to escape them!
The whole story with Prime has been an interesting writing journey, too. Every time I review the lines, I tweak them to make them that little bit more realistic, that little bit more uncomfortable. I'm painfully aware that we're seeing a lot of similar rhetoric flying around from real people in the media these days (particularly with anti-trans bullshit), and it's no coincidence that Prime is a reflection of this. But my focus isn't on "Oh look, doesn't this character sound like the person trying to destroy our lives", it's on "This character, like the people you've seen on the news, might think they're right but they will never win. They will never defeat us."
Indeed, the Save the Cat books (yes, this episode did remind me of them... It's probably where the name is from) talk about the 'All is Lost' point and the 'Dark Night of the Soul' - this is where we're at right now. It's bad, it's the worst - but it's going to get better.

please tell me more about wheelchair adora
Tumblr media
So originally I found wheelchair Adora from a friend's fanfic
^ go read its vry good and gay
Anyway
So in this fic Adora becomes wheelchair bound from the aftereffects of the Heart, her body had a lot of strain put on it and her legs burn and give out from under her every time she tries to stand up. So she has a lil wheelchair to help her get around.
I really liked this idea so I went along with it, but I wanted to put my own spin on it, so now because of this ask I brainstormed with my friends to figure out a way that Adora became disabled, in my own au.
-content warning for panic attack description-
(Set during early season 4) So sometime in Brightmoon, everything is all find and dandy at dinner, and Adora is just gobbling up her food like she hasn't eaten in 2 years, before she starts having a coughing fit. It gets the attention of everyone at the table and people start getting concerned, and Adora excuses herself to go to the bathroom, but before she makes it to the door she promptly collapses and passes out.
Everyone is obviously freaking out, so Glimmer teleports her friend to the infirmary, where Adora ends up staying the night. Adora wakes up in lots of pain (poor bb) and the doctors run all sorts of tests on her and find out that she's been poisoned.
When Glimmer hears about this, she's very angry and collects all the cooks in Brightmoon to ask who did it. And surprisingly, someone answers. One of the new chefs admits to poisoning Adora's food on purpose, and they are soon fired, after a long discussion on why what they did was wrong. The chef told Glimmer they believed that Adora was still loyal to the Horde, and was trying to off her by their own means.
Back to Adora, she's in the infirmary for a few days before she's allowed to go to her own room to continue her treatment. Bow and Glimmer try to do everything they can for their ill friend, including sleepovers, trying to find ways to cure her poison, and even try magical healing. But nothing works, it only serves to worsen Adora's condition.
It's been a week and Adora is deathly ill. The poison has been in her system for too long and it's taken a toll on her body. She has bad nightmares and bags under her eyes, she's barely eaten anything in the past week, the nagging paranoia in the back of her brain telling her that someone is out to kill her. It doesn't help her mental health. She can't walk without help, and her limbs shake involuntarily at times. She's on strict bedrest. She-Ra has been doing her best to take care of Adora when her friends aren't there. Opting to cuddling, getting her water, and helping her walk and eat, and even bathing together.
Tumblr media
Its been a rough week. She-Ra's worry for her friend only grows the worse her condition becomes. Until one day, something inside her remembers. Memories are hard to come by, so when She-Ra remembers Madame Razz has all sorts of medicinal herbs, she makes the descision of going out by herself to retrieve some.
She leaves a sweet note next to Adora's bed saying 'I'll be back soon, sweetheart. Keep the bed warm for me until I get back! <3' (Have I mentioned they're like a couple and use terms of endearment? But its like 'platonic' flirting and bantering, totally just friends) Adora reads it and blushes at the pet name, and cuddles her handmade She-Ra plushie.
She-Ra visits Razz and pretty much cries because she hasn't seen her friend in so long. They have a nice long hug and catch up a bit before she mentiones that Adora's been poisoned and is dying. Razz says to not worry and goes to her little shelf and grabs a few jars and mixes a few ingredients up in her little mixing bowl. She puts the mixture in a little baggie and hands it to She-Ra and gives her a warm smile. She-Ra holds the bag like her life depends on it. After a little more talking She-Ra thanks Razz and leaves to go back to Brightmoon. After inspecting the contents in the bag she recognizes it as tea. An old recipe that even she doesn't know.
When She-Ra gets back to the bedroom she notices Adora had fallen back to sleep cuddling her She-Ra plushie looking absolutely exhausted. She can't help but feel adoration for this girl. After standing there for a little too long looking at Adora, she goes to the tea nook next to the bathroom, and prepares some hot water. She puts the ingredients from the bag into a small tea strainer, and waits for it to seep into the hot water.
When the tea is ready, she gently wakes up Adora, smiling at her and saying 'Good morning, sleepyhead.' Adora gives her a weak smile, before looking what's in She-Ra's hand. She-Ra helps her sit up so that Adora can drink the tea at a better angle. Adora wordlessly drinks the tea and notices it had a slight bitterness to it, but its overall flavor is delicious. They sit and chat for a little, and Adora ends up drinking all the tea. She already feels better than she has all week. This stuff must be magic, she concludes.
Her eyelids fall closed, and they stay that way for a few weeks. Adora had fallen into a coma. And it worried all her friends, and the alliance. Adora had always been a key member at meetings and missions, it was strange to have her presence not be there. While Glimmer and Bow and the others were out fighting the Horde, Adora was in the infirmary, recovering from the poison in her system.
She-Ra had been by her side the whole time. She had nothing else to do, but she wanted to stay by her side. It was her duty to protect Adora. Even if she feels like she failed on that part.
When Adora woke up, her entire body was sore, but she felt a lot better. Her muscles didn't move on their own, she could sit up on her own, except-
She couldn't feel her legs, they didn't respond to her.
Adora's chest felt tight, and she spiraled at the implication alone. What will she do now? Can she even fight like this? Will her friends hate her for being disabled? Will they leave her? It was all too much for her, and she hyperventilated and screamed her lungs out. She-Ra was there to bring her back to reality, and comfort her like no one else could.
It wasn't the end of the world for Adora, but the news that she had permanent nerve damage to her lower half meant that she would never be able to walk again. It changed her life completely.
She soon got a wheelchair and when Bow and Glimmer saw her, she cried on the spot. She felt like a failure and a burden. They both gave her a hug and reassured her that everything would be okay, and she believed them.
If only things got better from there.
Anyway! I hope u enjoyed this little story, I'm definently going to be exploring it more and drawing more Wheeldora. She is everything to me. She-Ra takes care of her whenever she can but not to a suffocating degree, Adora still has her independence.

The Pride of June: Lesbian
Tumblr media
The Lesbian Flag is the Flag used for all Non men that love Non men. This mostly included only Cis/Trans women who loved only Cis/Trans women but recently had a definition change to include nonbinaries and others. It is the Second most well known Sexual Orientation and is the first letter in the LGBTQ+ acronym. The lesbian flag is also the Second most well known next to the Queer/Rainbow Flag
Fun History Fact: The L (Lesbian) did not use to be first in the acronym LGBT. It used to be GLBT. The fight for Lesbians wasn’t as popular as the fight for Gays were and Gay men often looked down on lesbians as they’re fight began the same time the fight for women’s rights were, meaning that most women still had no rights. Lesbians fought instead for women’s rights instead of their own rights while being looked down upon by their male counterparts. This changed however, when the AIDS crisis struck America. Gay Men were the most likely to have it, and since most people in America still discriminated against Gay people, nurses and doctors would refuse to take care of Gay Men. Lesbians however, being the least likely to have AIDS, stepped up despite the cruelty Gay Men had shown and took care of them, saving the lives of thousands. Gay men decided to honor the lesbians that helped them by putting the L first in the acronym, and began helping the fight for Lesbians. The started the term Gay/Lesbian solidarity (or also known as mlm/wlw solidarity).
Tumblr User: @outmaww
Media Character: Recent Media characters include Amity Blight from The Owl House, Catra and Adora from She Ra, and Arizona from Grey’s Anatomy.
Why the colors? The Lesbian Flag depicted in the Calendar is the five color one, but this one derived from the 7 color Lesbian Flag. The dark orange showed gender non-conformity, orange signified independence, light orange signifies community, white represents unique relationships to womanhood, pink signifies serenity and peace, dusty pink signifies love and sex, and dark rose showed femininity
Where can I find the calendar? The calendar is my pinned post on my blog @hecateisalesbian! This will be occurring all throughout June, and tags such as #The Pride of June and #PoJ Project can be used to find my post

Routinely eat weed edibles and tonic but that's it. Am interested in shrooms for the PTSD therapy though
5. How many people have i kissed
Hkbsknkbsojpsjkbekbsbjjdg technically 2.5?
The .5 comes from a coworker who kissed me on the lips (no tongue THANK FUCK LOL) on his last day of work??? It was fuckin weird lmao
The others were my ex and someone else

I try not to be jealous of people, but i tend to get jealous at people with supportive families/surrounding people and partners. I've finally got a friend group who supports me, but it's been very isolating otherwise
11. If i could teleport anywhere in the world, where would i go?
It depends, if i have a return teleport probably Japan? I've wanted to go for a loooooong time. If i have to get back normally, probably just to a friend's house nearby or to fuckin portillos since doordash IS DRIVING AWAY WITH MY FOOD

I would LOVE to get them pierced but I'm a big baby around pain t_t i would need lots of positive reinforcement while it's happening
17. Am i angry with someone right now?
Yeah, big time, no one who follows me here though
19. Would i change my name and what would i change it to?
I'm thinking of changing it to "Mika Adora Morgan"! Still up for debate though

43. What's my guilty pleasure?
Reading really shitty manga, especially isekai and c tier romance manga (and especially c tier
47. If i could marry any and celebrity who would it be?
None, I'm demi and unless there's a rich girl celebrity who wants to marry me for clout to say "look I'm married to a trans woman!" And give me the million dollars from earlier I'm not interested

🔥 is it cheating to give 3 options? anyways: sff, she-ra, or hollow knight?
oh, not at all I love rambling about things
Hollow Knight
idc how lore compliant or noncompliant it is, Hornet is transfem (transed her gender from genderless to female). to me.
She-Ra:
I think folks tend to make adora a little too perfect within catradora's dynamic lol it makes her less interesting like don't get me wrong I love her but for example let's take Taking Control (because it's the one where she's the most in the wrong)
ever since Corridors, adora is fixated on getting catra back to the extent that she forgets to consider the 'after' (sort of "if I can just rescue catra from Horde Prime [then everything will be as it used to be]", where 'as it used to be' is some version of perfect that exists only in adora's head and was never real), so when confronted with the messy aftermath (catra's reaction), adora reacts really badly. the resolution of their conflict that episode isn't as much catra asking for forgiveness as adora letting go of the idea of "perfect" in her head and taking a step back, and catra being given the space to figure out what she wants, and bridging the gap.
(pretty sure I wrote a post sometime ago about how Taking Control parallels Stranded that talks about this in more detail, but from my memory it's pretty bad lol so)
+ what I've said about the miscommunication in Promise. (the posts are from a few years ago but still mostly hold up)
like a lot of the actively fucking up is done by my beloved failgirl catra, but adora's not a passive agent. she has her own issues that conflict badly with both her feelings for catra and catra's issues (very clearly seen in Promise where the crystal castle plays them against each other)
SFF:
see, I have a bunch of opinions about SFF that's probably objectively unpopular, but if I say them on tumblr I'd probably get accused of saying anodyne things to clout-chase /j
(for example "I wish SFF, especially the ones with a focus on worldbuilding, would show more trans and/or nonbinary people bc a lot of them are rather fixated on gender, and it would've been soooooo interesting to see trans folks in there")
hm... here, have a few. one of these's got to be unpopular right
I don't think parts of a story being one dimensional/simplified is inherently bad I think the issue moreso comes from story elements with differing levels of simplification interfacing with each other. so for example I don't mind the Horde under Horde Prime being an evil empire that is evil bc it's the same level of abstracted and symbolic as everything else in She-Ra, but I hated the Liao Kingdom in Y u w u bc Y u w u at least nominally tries to flesh out a complex political system and to tell a story about a corrupt system, so any time the Liao Kingdom enters the story it acts as this vortex sucking out any and all potential complexity
a lot of the posts you see floating around talking about SFF books as a whole are clearly by folks whose only interaction with the genre is close to only LotR and GoT, likely not even the books but only the movies/show
a lot of the time, when folks here refer to GRRM, it feels like they're really invoking an idea of grimdarkness than anything to do with his work, I assume due to the show. like take the often mocked "what's Aragorn's tax policy" line. folks take it as meaninglessly pedantic when, if I'm remembering this correctly, GRRM's point is that a king being kindhearted and good doesn't always translates to that king being good at governing. shrug folks usually use it as a starting point to make good posts but yk. feels a bit unfair to the guy
in general, I have a rule of thumb that if something is often labelled grimdark but still has lingering popularity, it isn't actually grimdark (or specifically, 'grimdark as it exists in the popular consciousness'). it's worked more often than it didn't (malazan, berserk)
fantasy is watercolour. I have no justification for this but it just feels like fantasy should be drawn/animated in watercolour

Hacketteers Headcanons baby!
Abi and Emma
Abi is a tumblrina for sure and posts fan art of various shows there mixed with her ranting about American politics and how she's an anarchist (I headcanon her as a closet anarchist who is very quiet about it in public but on social media she'll just go ham).
Abi draws fan art of a lot of stuff but mostly you'll find Shera fan art there, where they (she/they nonbinary Abi babyyy) usually post Catradora art as well as just Adora (she may or may not have a crush on her because she reminds them of her blonde girlfriend).
Emma is a big influencer and after dating Abi learns that Tumblr still exists?! And then promptly makes an account there where she sends Abi so many dumb jokes as asks (a few of the ask posts get pretty popular).
After Abi gets Emma to watch Shera and Emma realizes Abi has a crush on Adora because she reminds them of her she instantly wants to cosplay. Abi is a little more apprehensive about it but Emma has her dress up as Catra while she dresses as Shera and almost drops Abi while holding her bridal style for a photoshoot.
Emma's blog mainly consists of reblogs from Abi and photos that Emma takes of her everyday life along with some asks she gets in her inbox. Some of her followers found her account and Emma finds it a much better way to interact with her audience.
Abi has turned their girlfriend into a tumblrina now and has no idea what to do about it, especially when that leads to Emma wanting to do way more cosplays, even making TikToks with them.
Abi also streams sometimes, and is usually joined by Dylan and Emma. They typically play Minecraft or, if they have the whole crew, Jackbox.
Emma is pansexual and a trans girl but stealth on most of her socials until one pride month where she fully comes out online.
Abi is autistic as well as Emma, who masks more loudly than she does.
Abi's nonbinary with she/they pronouns and is a lesbian after digging herself out of the comphet.
Kaitlyn
Kaitlyn loves bugs, as a kid they were one of the only things that kept her company when her parents were usually out at work or lecturing her about school.
She starts collecting bug earrings after her grandmother gives a pair of firefly earrings to her on her 16th birthday, which was the day she was finally allowed to get her ears pierced according to her parents.
Kaitlyn grows up loving movies like A Bug's Life and even Antz and Bee Movie. Her and Dylan still watch that while getting high together in present day.
One of her parents was a cop and taught her how to handle guns properly, and upon growing up, learning more about what the police actually do, and already having a bad relationship with her parents, goes hard on her stance against the police. That's why she's such a stickler for gun safety because she's seen enough 'professionals' lack it.
Kaitlyn's style of comedy and joking comes from a combination of her grandfather's dad jokes and her families passive aggressive joking nature. It's how they show their love (debatable whether or not Kaitlyn's parents use it that way though). So when Kaitlyn is really close to someone, like Jacob, she's really biting and sarcastic, but her loved ones know she doesn't mean it. Her tough exterior definitely comes from being rebellious growing up and arguing with her parents.
Kaitlyn one day finds a really small praying mantis right outside her window and decides to keep it, but instead of just sticking it in a bug cage and forgetting about it like she did as a kid, she actually researchs keeping Praying Mantises as pets and makes sure she's following all the advice to a T.
She gets a nice vivarium for her mantis and soon after decides to name it Master Mantis after the praying mantis from Kung Fu Panda, which was one of her favorite movies growing up aside from animated bug movies. She just ends up calling him Master and really enjoys watching him hunt and stalk around the faux grass Kaitlyn had placed in the vivarium.
She also gets a spider and names him Peter after spiderman because I choose to believe she's a Marvel comics enjoyer who loves the Tobey Maguire movies with all her heart. As well as Star Wars. She's a closet nerd.
She's aromantic and sapphic as well!
Has never been allowed an actual pet aside from her bugs so she feels so weird around them, Dylan's cat especially. But after she gets used to Shrodinger, Kaitlyn starts to secretly spoil the hell out of her.
Dylan
Dylan starts streaming himself on Twitch, mostly music related streams where he makes some cursed remix or song combo and shows it to his small but loyal following who then pretend to be upset by it. He also streams himself 'teaching' quantum physics like he's a teacher and the chat is his class (think Professor Lando, talking about wacky things with sarcastic professionalism).
He also streams him and his friends playing games together, typically Minecraft with Abi and Emma, sometimes Max will also join.
I see Dylan as someone who's probably a kid of divorced parents and had to kind of witness the divorce, his mom getting sole custody because his dad was an asshole.
I imagine his mom as a kind of hippie parent as well as a 'crazy cat lady', so Dylan grows up surrounded by cats and loves them a lot. His mom and him look so similar aside from height because he literally towers over her.
She's a very chill parent and has always supported Dylan through his transition and coming out as gay. She will pay for all of it and after announcing that Dylan just bursts into tears and they hug for several minutes after.
His mom divorced Dylan's dad because of how he treated Dylan and his coming out, along with how emotionally abusive he was to her and Dylan.
They're very close and his mom is the one who actually introduces him to weed, letting him smoke with her on his 19th birthday.
Dylan's mom is the type of mom to put up a pride flag outside of their house and have shirts that say 'i love my gay/trans son'.
Dylan goes on Twitter for a day, posts an inconsequential hot take about whatever popular show at the time and disappears for several months only to come back to pissed off people in the replies which amuses him to no end.
Dylan is definitely one of those people who hates Twitter and complains about it but still uses it anyway because he thinks it's funny to shit post.
Probably went to the Area 51 raid specifically to record the event and the idiots involved.
Probably bleaches his hair every once in a while when he's bored and sometimes he may or may not add color to it.
Wears his contacts around other people because he doesn't want them to see him as a nerd but starts caring less when the others fully meet Dylan Dylan and wears his glasses mostly.
Vague posts about his boyfriend and never fully explains who he is aside from some vague allusions.
Has ADHD and frequently fiddles with his fingers and rubs them together as a stim. He wears a fidget ring that Ryan bought for both himself and Dylan to use.
Dylan is a city boy through and through, he didn't know what a trail cam is, he has never lived near the woods in his life.
Dylan kind of named himself after Dylan Sprouse because the name always stuck in his head as a kid, growing up watching Suit Life of Zack and Cody. He's also had people tell him he looks like the lost Sprouse sibling so he mostly does it for shits and giggles until he realizes the name actually makes him feel good.
Dylan gets more tattoos post game, most of them having a theme of freedom with some geometric designs, some involving music as well.
Dylan and Abi celebrate Hanukkah together every year and Dylan always makes Abi wear ugly Hanukkah sweaters. They celebrate at his apartment and have sleepovers where they watch old Christmas movies that Ryan will pick out.
Ryan
Ryan wears nail polish often, usually only black but sometimes he'll paint his middle finger red or purple.
He's autistic and supernatural stuff, usually cryptids are his special interests. He stims in pretty small ways unless he's really excited, the only person ever really seeing his bigger stims being Dylan, Kaitlyn, Sarah and his grandparents. His stims are usually hand flapping or rubbing his hands over his face a lot, which sometimes does cause some stinging. Ryan's sister is autistic as well and frequently mirrors her siblings stims.
Ryan and Kaitlyn bond over being closer to their grandparents over their bio parents. They trade stories about their families and are the only two who truly understand each other's childhood trauma. Ryan is just as good friends with Kaitlyn as Dylan is.
Ryan and Abi make animations together and Ryan will sometimes help Abi out with their fan art when she sends it to him for him to comment on. They bond a lot, especially after she spends a lot of time at Ryan's and Dylan's apartment during the holidays.
Ryan casually uses he/they pronouns and slowly gets into wearing more femme stuff/styles as he becomes more confident after encouragement from his group of friends and his boyfriend. Ryan and Abi bond over their pronouns usually jokingly ('congratulations on the gender' 'nice pronouns ya got there').
Emma sometimes does his makeup, usually involving smeared black or gold eyeshadow, and they wear it pretty much everywhere he goes for the day. Dylan always tells him how handsome he looks in it.
Ryan takes Dylan to all of their favorite places that he's seen people go hunting for cryptids, especially Point Pleasant, West Virginia. It's practically a holiday/vacation spot for Ryan and Dylan (reluctantly (he secretly loves it)) at this point.
Ryan gets into watching people create and sew things onto their clothes and then immediately wants to get a sewing machine and go to town.
He ends up getting one from his grandmother and uses it to sew on patches to a punk battle jacket he's creating.
He gets tattoo sleeves post game, most of them dragons and related creatures, which he had as a hyperfixation growing up, being given a Dragon book by his grandparents.
Ryan's sister Sarah is living with her grandparents and he often goes over, inviting Dylan, to family game nights they've done since he was a kid. They play things like Uno and Monopoly almost all night.
Ryan is such a good big brother to his sister and frequently face times her, and sometimes takes her over to his and Dylan's apartment for a day. She loves Shrodinger much to the cats reluctance. Sarah also really loves Dylan and spends a lot of time with him when she's over at their place.
Ryan knows sign language because of his sister being nonverbal pretty much her whole life. They were both taught by their grandmother growing up, who is deaf and has been for several years.
Ryan has Dylan learn it to, teaching him himself in exchange for Dylan teaching him more about tech like he promised. It's also good to see him use it to try and understand his sister without needing her to write something down which typically overwhelms her.
Ryan is a person who secretly uses Tumblr and follows both Abi and Emma but never posts anything personal so they don't figure out it's him. He'll post some art sometimes and reblog important information that effects their life and the occasional post about his boyfriend, who they vague post about. Usually to gush. He also absolutely reblogs posts about cryptids and a ton of Buzzfeed Unsolved stuff.
Ryan is a very good leader when in a bad situation and typically is looked to for guidance by others around him because of that. He can be kind of blunt sometimes which people see as rude but Ryan knows what he meant.
Despite stepping up as a leader in dire situations, making sure people are okay like he always did with his sister, they're very introverted and avoid a lot of interactions. If your or his life isn't in danger, you might never hear a full sentence from the guy. He's just content to lay by his boyfriend with his headphones in, listening to a podcast or watching an old Unsolved video.
Ryan's love language is mostly actions, doing things for people that they need done or helping them out without being asked. When words and tone fail him, his actions help show others his true feelings.

Please consider: Shera and the Princesses of Power.
Ooh, I've seen all of SPOP. I enjoyed it. I've even cosplayed for it. I can't really say I've ever felt the urge to write fanfiction for it, though; I liked the characters well enough (felt a little old for the show a lot, honestly), but the world itself didn't really capture me as much as I wanted it to capture me. A little too disconnected. (Also, animation quality was distracting at times.)
That being said, I really liked what they did with Light Hope and the whole "Masters of the Universe" aspect of Eternia's effect on Etheria. I really, really wanted to see SPOP's take on Eternia and He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. I'm not at all surprised that they didn't get to bring in Adam (rights issues) and they probably didn't want to bring Adam in anyway (Adora is the focus, not He-Man), but I was actually a He-Man fan before I was a She-Ra fan, and would still love to see SPOP's interpretation of Eternia and the He-Man characters. (I think trans!Adam and trans!Adora are fun ideas.)
On that note, I would also love to see the 3D He-Man & the MOTU's take on the She-Ra characters (I know Hordak showed up recently). I've only really seen the first season of the 3D MOTU, but I really enjoyed it, especially the world and character design. Revelations was... fine, but I've always found the original design of He-Man disjointed (original show was designed around the toys, so it makes sense), so it was delightful to see just a complete revamp of the world and characters to all look totally new and like they really matched each other (reminded me of Kameo: Elements of Power which is an older game I've always loved). New backstories were fun. I don't care about "faithfulness" to the original in this context; I love seeing multiple versions of a thing.
