#to be fair the little mermaid is my favorite movie of all time

Tell me friend, what was your favorite part of the new little mermaid movie? (Was it when she found a way to tell him her name because that was my favorite part) 👀
sadly, I didn't see it yet, tecnically. Bc of my job I don't have time to go out atm, so I had to pirate it, but it was clearly incomplete, missing a lot of parts and in terrible quality, so I can't really say what's my favorite part yet, until I watch it for real next week.
But I can tell you what I loved from what I saw:
Halle was PERRRFECT for Ariel, as far as I can tell, I don't think watching the whole movie will change my opinion on that, she captured her amazingly, her innocence, curiosity, bravery, determination, everything. And I believe I like this Ariel more too, since she seems to have more motivation besides love to want to stay above (not saying OG Ariel didn't have other motivations, I mean that it's clearer here), I can't understand people that say other characters stole the spot, when she owned the whole movie, (I really doubt I 'll change my mind about this when I watch it ful with the missing parts)
ERIC!! Omg if I was in love with his animated version, I am OBSESSED with this Eric. Like with Ariel, they made a better job at expanding the character and giving him depth. But like, way more noticeable than with Ariel, since OG Eric wasn't really explored besides being a good person and a perfect prince (again, I still love the OG, but this version is superior, I normally let nostalgia get in the way of a fair judgement, but I can't deny it this time, the live action won)
their relationship and love story was so sweet and soft, more that the OG, and it honestly surprised me. OG Eriel were so cute and amazing together, and I always loved them and always will, but Live Action Eriel made me feel these two were truly soulmates. After Kiss the Girl, I was so fucking obsessed and couldn't wait for them to be together, they made a great show in showing they fell in love for real, honest true love.
"my little mermaid" AHHHHHH
shirtless, soaking wet Eric was put on this movie specifically for me, thank you disney.
I died everytime Eric looked at her, I fucking melted, that boy was so gone for her omfg
The fact that this Eriel is the "Girl fell first, Boy fell harder" a favorite of mine, just, ugh I love this movie so much
OG Ariel cameo made me want to cry
I believe anyone that says the girl who played Vanessa should have been Ariel undermine the work she put into that character, she was the perfect Vanessa, I couldn't imagine her in any other role in the movie, fr, wasn't expecting much of her since I didn't know her and never particularly cared about her character, since it was a facade of Ursula.
I NEED A SEQUEL ASAP, I NEED TO SEE BABY MELODY PLEASE
I hadn't have time to open wattpad or AO3 in so long, but when I do I know I will consume any and all 2023 Eriel fic available.
TL;DR: Eriel were my favorite part of the movie, the live action is simply superior, topping Cinderella and Maleficent in list

Fifteen Days of Disney Magic - Number 7
Welcome to Fifteen Days of Disney Magic! In honor of the company’s 100th Anniversary, I am counting down my Top 15 Favorite Movies from Walt Disney Animation Studios! Today’s entry might be called an Underrated Mouse-terpiece. Ha Ha. Number 7 is…The Great Mouse Detective.
Tumblr media
This is one of at least two films on my list where, if you don’t know me well, the movie being in my Top 15 – let alone my Top 10 – will probably be a surprise. However, if you DO know me well, then you probably won’t be surprised at all. “The Great Mouse Detective” is one of those hidden gems in the Disney canon: it’s not exactly a hated movie – I don’t know anybody who dislikes it outright – but it’s a film that frequently seems to get overlooked. It’s the very definition of a cult classic: a movie with a small but devoted fanbase, and a lot of other people just sort of go, “Oh, yeah. That movie exists.” There are a few reasons for this, I think; one is that the film, in its own time, wasn’t necessarily a smash hit. Oh, it was a successful film, don't get me wrong, and a much-needed one, at that. The previous movie, “The Black Cauldron,” performed so poorly at the box office it lost to the bloody Care Bears Movie (yes, seriously), and didn't exactly get a lot of critical praise. This film was a modest commercial hit, and critics seemed to like it both then and now, but it wasn’t something that revolutionized the company or made people suddenly become die-hard Disney fans again.
The other reason is merchandising: this film just hasn’t had the level of ATTENTION a lot of other films, both before and since, have gotten, or so it feels to me. Disney doesn’t exactly make a lot of toys, coffee cups, t-shirts, and so on based on this movie today, and I’m not sure if they ever did. Even the characters seem to be quite forgotten in the annals of Disney moviemaking; I think Bongo and Lumpjaw from “Fun and Fancy Free” have made more subsequent appearances in comics and cartoons than any of the characters in this film. Heck, outside of a cameo in an episode of “House of Mouse,” and a few obscure children’s books, I actually can’t think of ANY real subsequent appearances for these characters, off the top of my head. Whatever the cause for all this, it’s fair to say that “The Great Mouse Detective” isn’t a movie with the same level of enthusiasm, from fans, critics, and the company itself alike, as something like “The Little Mermaid” or “Big Hero 6.” Which is a shame because, very obviously, I think it’s a great film! Admittedly, a big part of my love for this film stems from the story itself, and what it's inspired by. The film is a pastiche of Sherlock Holmes. The movie was based on a series of books called “Basil of Baker Street,” which I’ve admittedly never read; from what I understand, however, the film has almost nothing to DO with those books, and instead treats itself as a more or less straightforward Sherlock Holmes movie. It just so happens that the names are different, and all the characters are now mice, rats, dogs, cats, and so on. As a kid, this was my introduction to the concept of Sherlock Holmes, and anyone who knows me well knows how much I love the Conan Doyle classics and their titular detective. So you can absolutely blame this movie for that obsession: I wouldn’t care about things like “Sherlock” or “Moriarty the Patriot” if I didn’t first see “The Great Mouse Detective” many times while growing up. In fact, as an adult, my love for this movie has only grown, because I now love it for both different and similar reasons to when I was a child. The main thing that I marvel at with this movie, now that I’m older and have so much more experience with the source material, is just how much this film pays homage to the stories. Some elements are quite transparent, like the characters: Basil is very obviously Holmes, Dawson is very obviously Watson, and Professor Ratigan is very obviously Professor Moriarty. They are the three key examples. Another is the battle atop Big Ben, which is a transparent riff on the climactic duel atop Reichenbach Falls from the books.
However, some details are surprisingly subtle. For example, the whole sequence with Basil and Dawson disguised as sailors is based on a specific episode of the probably-just-as-obscure-then-as-it-is-now 1950s Sherlock Holmes TV show. Unless you happen to have seen that show, you won’t pick up on that detail. Another example is the use of Toby the Bloodhound: he actually does appear in the Holmes story “The Sign of Four,” where Sherlock uses him to track down a peg-legged villain. While I knew of Toby’s origins, it wasn’t until earlier this very year that I realized that’s EXACTLY what Basil does with the pooch in the film: use him to track down a peg-legged villain, albeit one unrelated to the tale. A direct reference to one of the books I somehow never picked up on before! When even a die-hard Holmes fan like myself can be surprised by the film all these years later, it’s clearly doing its job well! Even if you AREN’T a major Sherlock Holmes fan, however, the movie is definitely worth looking into. It has wonderful characters, with a superb voice cast behind them (VINCENT PRICE IS THE VILLAIN, PEOPLE), an atmospheric setting, a couple of good songs, and a lot of fun, adventurous shenanigans from start to finish. While at first it may seem like just a typical “cute little mouse movie,” it’s actually got some real nail-biting moments, including one of the best and most action-packed climaxes of any Disney motion picture ever made. If you haven’t seen it before, find time to do so. And if you have seen it already, watch it again: I can promise you there’s always something new to uncover with this wonderful little crime story. The countdown continues tomorrow with my 6th Favorite Disney Movie! HINT: “Most Everyone’s Mad Around Here.”

Hi, I loved all of the points you made with 2015 Cinderella. I haven't watched the original one in a while, but you reminded me of do many lovely things, and I completely agree with your take on her character! And I was wondering if you could write a little about all of the other live-action remakes, which one is your fave and which one is the worst (after Cinderella ofc) and why - compare the princesses' personalities a bit, and maybe say what was better than in the oryginal (if there was anything?). I'm thinking about Aladdin, Mulan, TLM and BatB - oh, and Maleficent, if you count this one :) I must say I haven't seen the new TLM yet, but Disney's remakes have been letting me down since Cinderella, so I'm in no rush and don't worry about spoilers! Love your opinions and blog in general, btw ❤
Thank you for being complimentary to one of my last posts! This question yields a lengthy response, though, so I'll try to be brief while covering all of the topics you inquired about:
In terms of favorites, I wouldn't say I'd rewatch any of these films? They're generally uninspired and bad rip-offs of a superior property that already exists. If I had to rank them though, BATB and Aladdin were the least unenjoyable to me, TLM and Maleficent really were not for me and didn't understand their source material, and Mulan was unforgivably bland.
To compare their personalities is a difficult assignment because the live actions essentially show us the same character, meaning all the live action Princesses are the same to me? They made them all display strength in the same way, made them broader/softer to appeal to more people, etc, so I wouldn't really say that Emma Watson's Belle and Lily James' Cinderella or even Halle Bailey's Ariel are different characters from one another. In the process of "fixing" the Princesses, they just stripped the characters of any individuality...but, if we're comparing the live action characters to their animated counterparts, there are quite a bit of differences.
Emma's Belle leans more into the snobbish vibe that we see from the animated Belle but also feels more vulnerable in certain moments? I've only seen this movie once, and it was six years ago, but I remember Emma's Belle having a one-off with the Beast about how the villagers think she's odd and I thought that was nice. Belle in the animated film never really questioned herself, though she did have a similar scene with her father near the beginning of the movie so...I don't know, I'm really not a good judge on Belle lol Naomi's Jasmine feels somewhat true to the animated counterpart? I think the difference here, though, is where animated Jasmine was locked away her entire life the first time we meet her, Naomi's Jasmine is someone we meet out and about the Palace grounds. So I guess Naomi's has less restrictions on her? I can't think of another difference. Halle's Ariel isn't really a character, it just feels like Halle Bailey starring in The Little Mermaid to me? That might be a marketing thing, because they pushed her pretty aggressively for years, but the best way to explain it is that she acts the way Emma Watson sings. She doesn't really emote, she sings along in Under the Sea when it doesn't make sense for her to, she just doesn't really feel fully emersed or like she's acting. And honestly it's not really fair to judge her on this factor because she's even admitted she's not an actress? So...I'd say Halle's Ariel is just a nice, agreeable girl that's generally palatable and can sing well. The original Ariel has more fire to her, a feeling of being marginalized, is definitely more flawed and nuanced, fully realized, fiery, emotional, realistic, and headstrong. Elle's Aurora and animated Aurora...whew. Elle's Aurora is a child- she's giggly and naïve and innocent and doesn't understand the world around her. She doesn't have the presence or the grace or the charm of the original Aurora, nor any of the romanticism that is so central to the character. Where, in the original, I had no doubt that Aurora was competent and essentially raised herself, I don't know how Elle's Aurora got by lol I think the original Aurora had a sense of love and duty and loyalty, where Elle's Aurora is more withdrawn generally but also blindly reactive. Mary Costa's Aurora is introspective and intelligent, with so many gears turning at all times, but also dripping with enigma and essence while Elle's Aurora is simple and assuming. The remake Mulan is written to be perfect, while the animated Mulan is loyal, persistent, determined, sometimes negative, humorous, with a hazy moral compass on a practical level but a very sound higher self that she taps into.
You mentioned what was done better...I'll challenge myself to say nice things about each, which will be easy since Lily isn't included lol it's a minor detail but I loved that Emma's Belle got the snowball thrown in her face- and I don't even mean that in a shady way. The animated Belle was beloved by everyone and the smartest and the prettiest and treated incredibly by everyone, so the fact that she also threw snowballs at the Beast while he kept missing her was too much lol the fact that the Beast was allowed to be more athletically inclined and get her back, so that they met more as equals, even in such a fleeting moment, was welcome by me. I like the inclusion of Jasmine having a female friend. The original Aladdin is down BAD for female characters, and while I would've preferred the older maid that Jasmine has in the spinoff books, the fact that we got more women in general in that universe is a win. I think it was nice that they gave Halle's Ariel more vocal screentime. In the original, there were so many moments I wish I could've heard Jodi's Ariel speak more (when Ariel doesn't have a voice), and while I think the scenes are incredibly effective in the 1989 film where she is voiceless and I support the creative decision, more Ariel is always a good thing. With Elle's Aurora...it's nice we get to see her at different ages? The live action Mulan...doesn't have Mushu? Which allows for a more grounded story??

Spring 2022 Anime Opinions
As always ranking the anime I watched this season based on my opinions don’t take it personally thx xoxo
Tumblr media
Bubble
Honestly as I was writing this I completely forgot I had watched this till doing the tier list so thats that. Its not like offensive or anything but its not a very fun movie, I cant really remember anything about it ASDFGH It had cool visuals I think? Like the little mermaid but boring sorry ;w;
Kunoichi Tsubaki no Mune no Uchi
I dont… I dont know about the one peeps asdfghj it seems wrong what I am watching, like its trying to appease to some sort of loli thing and it makes me very uncomfortable. I dont like that they just hate on man for (???) reason and that it seems more like a bait than anything. Some cute character dynamics but not enough to save it for me.
Aharen-san wa Hakarenai
this show is SO boring ASDFGHJ I am so sorry if you like it but like,,,, I really wanted to like it but,,,,, its just sO slow nothing happens nothing goes on no character stands out the animation is average at best… It gives ‘go girl give us nothing’ energy. Its like Komi san but without its two likable characters so its just boring as I have nothing to look forward to.
Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. 2nd Season
speaking of komi san ASDFGHJ I tend to not speak about this show here because I dont want an influx of hardcore Stans coming to attack but komi san is just…. An average show imo :// I dont like when shows romanticize in a way social anxiety and introversion because its something I deal with and the way they uwu about it makes me :/// iffy. Also Yamai may be toeing the line of my most hated fictional character ever. Every time she comes on screen I audibly supreme a groan, I hate everything she says I hate how she sexualizes Komi I hate that her whole character trait is being the “psychotic lesbian” so straight white boys can make fun of on twitter, I hate it. To be fair I hate almost all the characters here, they are almost all cringey and just, not real people whatsoever. The only characters savable are Tadano, Najimi and Onemine, the rest are trash. I dont like this show I am sorry ;w;
Otome Game Sekai wa Mob ni Kibishii Sekai desu
This show goes from being extremely boring to extremely mid, no in between asdfgh I like when Angelica and Olivia are being girlfriends and…. Thats about it. I think the princes are all boring, Leon has its moments here and there and its just very random lmao. I think the concept in itself has more potential than the actual delivery but hey I mean I am still watching it so thats that.
Dance Dance Danseur
AA PLEASE DONT HATE ME BECAUSE I REALLY REALLY REALLY WANTED TO LIKE AND LOVE THIS SHOW AND,,,,, I dont hate it, its just not for me ;w; I like the message but I am not gonna lie familia, I find Ballet extremely boring :( And this is no shade to anyone who enjoys it but I’ve never been a dancer myself so its just very hard for me to connect with whats happening. I guess its like someone who doesn’t like or enjoys art watched Blue period, they will most likely be bored half the time. And I don’t mean it in a way that you cant connect with something you haven’t experienced because I like learning about new things and stuff but asdfgh idk man most of the episodes are just kind of boring to me :( and the characters aren’t strong enough to keep me interested but I do think the message is cool so points for it ^^
Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san
This show is cute, in a boring way but still cute. Like,,,, nothing happens ASDFGHJ But I think the dynamic is adorable so I can forgive it. I normally like ships and dynamics that have a bit more banter and this one is pretty tame and easy but I mean its an alright watch, there are some good moments here and there.
Love all play
This show is like a rollercoaster because one week I think its amazing, poetic, a master piece, and then the next its cliche and nothing happens SKSKSKKS So I am not sure where to rank it. I think it started off not as my favorite and then I got to know the team and I thought their dynamic was really fun and then it died down again so I mean yeah, very okay-ish sports anime, nothing much more to say lol.
Gunjou no Fanfare
I dont know if I like or hate this show ASDFGHJ I have a love-hate thing with this because I don’t like horses so like whenever it dwells into horse territory (which is like, the main theme of the show) it kinda loses me but then some of the characters (shoutout to Hayato, Sakuraba and Aki truly the only ones ever) are interesting but then they go back to the uninteresting parts and idk ASDFG I do think the whole idol struggle with Yuu was nice and innovative but then by ep 7 it was lowkey resolved so like ?? Idk, watch it for Hayato I guess clink clink
Summertime Render
This show also goes up and down for me too lmaoo, because I went into it and I loved it, proceeded to read the manga in like a week and because of it my enjoyment greatly decreased ASDFGHJK I dont know how to delve into this without spoilers but the pacing of the show is,,,, weird. Weird in the sense that it leaves you kind of questioning things and tbh theres barely any character development to anyone. The animation is pretty tho and I really enjoy the eeriness to it but I think I went in with higher expectations than I should have rip
Kakkou no Iinazuke
This is a trainwreck, but I like train wrecks so I can cant somehow stop watching and I am flabbergasted each week more by it. As the good Latina I am, I’ve watched my fair share of telenovelas and this is the most telenovela esque trope ever but in anime format it makes it somehow 10 times more ridiculous. Tell me that the concept of being switched at birth only to be reunited years later by fate and THEN arranged a MARRIAGE (!!!!) by your parents with your switched person because they wanted to unite the families or something isn’t the most INSANE thing ever ASDFGHJ HOW DO YOU GET FROM POINT A TO B HELLO??? But hey I like mess so I mean I am all for it clink clink. The only thing I hate is the sister thing, I hope she is not a serious love interested because like I get she ain’t his biological sister but,,,,,,, my dudes she grew up as her SIBLING how do you go from that to crush like byE.
Tomodachi Game
Tumblr media
You know, I know that y’all like shitting on tomodachi game but its one of my favorite mangas so therefore I love it ASDFGHJ. The thing with tomodachi game (and I commented it in a previous note) is that an anime adaption is very difficult to do well because of the way its a snowball effect sort of story (idk how to explain it without getting into spoilers). JUST READ THE MANGA OKAY AND IF YOU WATCH IT DO IT FOR KEI THE MANGA IS SO GOOD. Be careful with the triggers tho, read them before watching or reading, it delves into some very dark topics.
Koi wa Sekai Seifuku no Ato de
Tumblr media
Koiseka is the ugliest romcom ever but I forgive it because its also the dumbest romcom ever SKKSKS I love enemies to lovers and secret dating so all the tropes are taken into account and I appreciate the flavor. I hate the animation but they are all so cute and its very dumb and the plot isn’t anything to really write home about but its cute so give it a go if you want a chill romance where you don’t have to think much other than the red power ranger likes villain.
Rikei ga Koi ni Ochita no de Shoumei shitemita. Heart
Tumblr media
Rikekoi is in a weird spot for me because there have been things I liked and disliked from this season but just because I love the concept of STEM people being completely awful at flirting it goes up skskks. People are liking this season more than the last but idk, I think I got to differ because I rEALLY liked season 1 ;w; not saying s2 is bad its just… The pacing seems a bit off and the plot seems to go around in circles at some points where it shouldn’t imo. Not enough Ibarada and Inukai either so //sad noises
Paripi Koumei
Tumblr media
This was supposed to be my gag show of the season but I gotta admit when I am wrong and this one really surprised me ngl. It’s like,,,,, crack,,,, but taken seriously,,,, but it somewhat works?? I think I would love it more if I was more into the music industry but it still slaps and the characters are very cute, I love Kabe, Eiko and Nanami and the latter two should kiss. Defo give it a watch ^^
Ao Ashi
Tumblr media
I am a weak bitch for sports anime and this wasn’t the exception and Ao Ashi did nOT disappoint everyone cheer. I don’t now if its because I actually understand football or what but I love this show, I am reading the manga and I am already like on chapter 140 lmaoo. The animation is great, the characters too, I enjoy the pacing and plot, although it seems a bit draggy at first its very good give it a go. Do it for Kuroda, Koi, Togashi and Otomo truly the only men ever.
Tiger & Bunny 2
Tumblr media
The following ones are all very ties to number one spot because they make me happy and are my comfort shows so I will ramble. Tiger and bunny is a show I discovered like, a month ago, and it consumed me completely asdfgh. I love superhero societies done well (not like ehemm other shows) and I think tiger and bunny nails it. The realism behind the struggles of actually building a hero corporation are shown and the characters on this show are SO good. There is not a single character from the main cast that is unlikeable imo and the way it follows each of their stories and struggles makes for interesting dynamics and storytellings. The ships are also top tier, we got no other choice but to Stan everyone go watch this and give Kotetsu some love he needs it.
Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic
Tumblr media
I don’t think I have much to say regarding love is war other than it slaps, it always had slapped and it will, as a matter of fact, continue to slap. The comedy on this show is AMAZINg and the dynamics are hilarious. The arc that is coming up is very good and yeah,,, I honestly don’t know why not many people talk about Love is War on Tumblr but its really good lol go consume good romance media.
Heroine Tarumono! Kiraware Heroine to Naisho no Oshigoto
Tumblr media
shoutout to like, the other 3 people who watch, enjoy and digest this show with me because I am ngl, its becoming a comfort show ASDFGHJK ITS SO GOOD OKAY I LIKE IDOL SHOWS YES. Is it technically better produced than love is war or had a more well built story than tiger and bunny? No, probably no, not really. Do I enjoy it and it makes me happy every single week I look forward to it? You bet it does! Herotaru is just a very idol show but I love the character dynamics and I love Hiyori my queen my everything and the silly little idol boys with their silly little enemies to lovers routine they are the entire circus and-….. I think its neat okay? Okay, now everyone reading this needs to go watch Herotaru, do it for Hiyori best girl.
Spy x Family
Tumblr media
omg can you say epIC proportions !!! I think everyone and their mothers has heard of spy x family at this point so I won’t ramble about how good it is but !!! So good !!! The storytelling is great and they’ve adapted the manga fantastically imo. I love Anya and the kids (Damian my soN) as well as the adult story line with Yor and Loid so yeah !!! Probs gonna be best anime of the year we got no choice but to ascend !

🧜🏻‍♀️mermaid - send me a description of yourself (personality-wise, hobbies, favorite things, physical characteristics, or all of the above, whatever you’re most comfy with!) and i’ll ship you with someone :) pls include gender preference and fandom!!
this is honestly the cutest omg!!! could i pretty please request a male dead poets society matchup <3
i go by she/her pronouns. my name is florence but most people call me flo or other nicknames. i’m a fair skinned 5’3 girl with long curly gold hair that is cut in 90s layers with long side bangs. it’s typically held off my face with a ballet pink coloured ribbon. i have downturned doe eyes that are constantly switching between blue, green and grey. i always curl my lashes and wear mascara because sadly naturally i have very straight pale lashes. i have a slim, slight figure. my face only has a few freckles but i have a lot on my body. i have a small ring of freckles on my knuckle which i love!!! my cheeks are always flushed and i have a small gap betweeen my front 2 teeth.
i’m extremely physically affectionate. my friends irl will tell anyone that because i’m nearly always holding their hands or looping my arms with theirs. my love language is definitely physical touch. i’m an infp and a libra. i also get told that my personality reminds people of miss honey or cinderella. so i guess that means i’m pretty soft spoken and kind. i’m very quiet when i first meet people but once they probably know me i can ramble for ages about my hyper-fixations.i can be kinda naive but only because i always wanna see the good in people!!! i don’t really get angry or when i am angry i just end up crying.
i really love classic literature and vintage books!!! along with vintage movies (especially audrey hepburn movies, i’m literally obsessed with her) i love alternative music from the 80s. think the smiths, blondie, echo and the bunnymen + not from the 80s lana <333 though to be fair i just adore anything from the past. but also i thrive listening to vintage love songs. i dress in a very typically feminine way with ditsy floral patterns and lace being a staple in my wardrobe. i love pressed flowers and journaling.
thank you so much i honestly cannot wait to see who you come up with <333
flo my lovely! i ship you with neil. i literally could not decide so i (metaphorically) flipped a coin between him and charlie.
i think you both would be very very genuine with each other. i can definitely see neil trying to break you out of your shell gently, because i think he really cares about being yourself and authenticity. you guys are both intuitive feelers (he's enfj, so you both share nf) so you'd pick up on each others body language and tendencies really quickly.
he'd love listening to you ramble about your hyperfixations. he's a talker more than a listener, and he's kind of an idealist, but neil can actually be a really good listener especially when it's people he cares about. he also really treasures how people treat others, and i think he'd be so smitten with your personality and how kind you are.
he'd also be so in love with the fact that you love vintage love songs. i hc that he plays the piano (its just such a neil thing to do) and he'd not only try to teach you teasingly but he'd also play you little love songs and sing (i also hc that neil's a really good singer). he'd also be obsessed with your hair and he'd get you different ribbons to try on :'))) he'd also absolutely adore the little ring of freckles on your finger and he'd use a sharpie to like draw flowers on them. neil is a pretty romantic person so i can also see him spending lots of quality time with you. his parents probably never let him watch an audrey hepburn movie in their lives (perry family hate club tbh) but as soon as you introduce them to him he's obsessed with her acting, and maybe it makes him want to act in movies as well as plays. he'll be rehearsing lines and you'll help him and if it's a romantic scene you can tease him a little bit and it doesn't matter how focused he is on the role but he'll get distracted so quickly and just pepper you in sweet kisses.

The Little Mermaid live action is so good and dare I say that it completely beats the animated version by a mile (and this is coming from someone whose favorite Disney princess movie is Beauty and the Beast AND who got let down by the live action.)
Changes were made BUT they WORKED.
Also the ultimate reason why it’s superior to the animated version:
The progression of Ariel and Eric’s relationship. And Eric actually having a personality instead of just being there. AND BOY IS THE CHEMISTRY OFF THE CHARTS AND THROUGH THE ROOF. THEY GOT ME GIGGLING AND KICKING MY FEET IN MY SEAT.
And you know what’s even funnier? The fact that I USED TO DOUBT JONAH HAUER-KING. I was legit like “… this bland white dude is supposed to play alongside Halle Bailey?” when they first announced the casting but BOY DID I WALK OUT OF THE MOVIE THEATER THE OTHER DAY JUST SWOONING OVER HIM.
Seriously, I recommend buying tickets to this movie. It’s 100% worth it. The way Eric looks at Ariel ALONE on the massive screen is worth the ticket price, trust me. Almost like it’s not acting at all but that’s a conversation for another time
Pretty much the reaction tiktok has. Lol
Like I literally watched like 95% of this movie on tiktok ( I know I'm missing a couple scenes ( like a couple scenes with Eric and his Mom) but the majority of the major scenes I seen because of tiktok) and its good. Lol I have a feeling I'm about to watch Across the Spiderverse the same way. lol
Halle is just amazing as Ariel and Jonah needs to be in Bridgeton asap!! Lol
Can't wait to watch it on Disney plus.
Also " For The First Time" is straight fire and "Wild Uncharted Waters" is up there with "Evermore" for a prince to have a power ballad.
Lin is was in his bag as always and Alan that orchestra was so damn good.
Yes the changes absolutely makes sense and some people was complaining about one in particular ( spoilers Ursula's demise which makes complete sense on who did it this time) .
I'm glad its doing well in the domestic boxoffice but internationally is not fairing to well. Which is not its fault by any means but lets just say racism is still very much alive. ( cough especially those Asian countries cough)
But I'm glad you enjoyed it!!

What’s the most depressing movie you’ve ever watched? Run Lola Run, because it’s not only stressful, but it never stops being stressful, and you know from the outcome of all those different scenarios that her future isn’t going to look much less stressful! Ack!
What’s the most disturbing movie you’ve ever watched? I usually switch the movie off if I get too disturbed. Like, if I feel like the movie is rubbing my face in some topic that doesn’t need more than a teaspoon of exposure to get the point across, I’ll turn it off. But I guess Nosferatu was the most disturbing one that jumps to mind.
An actor/actress you’ve seen in more than 8 movies? Name the movies. Tom Hanks! (He’s…he’s in everything.) Saving Mr. Banks, Toy Story, Castaway, A League of Their Own, The Polar Express, Toy Story 2, Toy Story 3, Toy Story 4! And many moooore 🎶
A film you could watch on repeat for the rest of your life? Too many! But we’ll go with East of Eden. (I can’t. Stop. Watching. It. I’ve seen the movie 5 times now of my own free will. And I keep popping up like a gopher next to everyone I know and asking them if they want to watch it with me.) Honorable mentions to Jurassic Park, Saving Mr. Banks, Captain America: The First Avenger, Rebel Without a Cause, Zootopia and Lilo & Stitch.
What’s the very first film you remember watching? The Lion King.
A film you wish you hadn’t watched? Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. I hate that movie.
A film you wish had a sequel? I’m starting to lose my taste for sequels! I wish it weren’t so. The best sequels are sequels to animated movies. So I guess it would be neat to see another Zootopia.
Which book would you like to see adapted into a film? I don’t know about film, but Wagner the Wehr Wolf would make SUCH a good miniseries.
The most aesthetically pleasing movie you’ve ever watched? The Little Mermaid.
What’s your favourite movie director? Living? Rian Johnson. Dead? Elia Kazan or Billy Wilder. I think you can tell a lot about a director by the way the actors come across on screen, and all the actors I’ve seen in the above men’s movies have been at their best under their direction.
Your favourite movie genre? I think animation, but sometimes I wish it weren’t a genre of its own. So with that in mind, my favorite genre is drama. But I LOVE old old horror.
A movie that holds a special place in your heart? Saving Mr. Banks, because I think, when Tom Hanks says, “that’s what we storytellers do. We restore order with imagination,” my whole heart exploded. But also The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, because everything in it is exactly as it should be for Narnia. And Lilo & Stitch just needs to go without saying for this ask game.
Your favourite comedy film? Fantastic Mr. Fox!
A music video you would love to see developed into a film? Is this a thing? …Jumpsuit by Twenty One Pilots.
A film everyone loves but you hate? I hate all Live Action Disney remakes except for Cinderella 2015, so far.
A film you love but everyone else hates I love The Last Jedi. And everyone everyone everyone else hates it! 😬 To be fair, The Last Jedi was easier to defend before Rise of Skywalker came out. But I still love it as a stand-alone movie.
Which cinematic universe would you like to live in? Midnight in Paris, but I don’t think that counts as a cinematic universe, so I guess the Universal Monsters cinematic universe! I wouldn’t want to live in the MCU, as much as I love it. But Universal Monsters? Think about it! You’re living in the 40s and 50s, and yeah there are vampires and werewolves and such, but oooo how cool! And Midnight in Paris is all about being able to visit the artistic “greats” of times gone by, and have them comment on your work and get a greater appreciation for your own time. And I just think that’s neat
What’s your favourite biopic? Saving Mr. Banks.
Mainstream movies or indie movies? …Mainstream movies. I know it’s not very cool to think that. But I basically think like Dipper: “The Top 100 are the Top 100 for a reason, darn it, they’re catchy.” I think if your movie can appeal to huge amounts of people and stand the test of time, it’s done it’s job as a great communication tool. Anything else is like whispering in a crowded room to get attention. It works, but it just makes you look self-absorbed and weird, and only willing to communicate with the people who lean in and make you the center of their focus.
Old movies or contemporary movies? Old movies! Old movies! I’m doing Bryan McDonald’s Film Diet, and I was just telling my mom, “I don’t know if they really don’t make them like they used to, or if I just haven’t been watching the RIGHT contemporary movies, but old movies are so much better than new ones.” There’s this thing. In Rebel Without a Cause. It’s the famous scene where Jimmy is arguing with his parents about telling the police what he’s done. And there’s all this tension surrounding Jimmy and his dad’s relationship, but they never talk about it to one another. And the mom keeps getting around in front of Jimmy and making him look at her and talk to her and interrupting the dad, but Jimmy keeps addressing the dad…but never turning to face him. And it’s like, that’s their whole problem. Jimmy won’t face his dad because he doesn’t like what he sees. And Jimmy’s dad won’t stand up because he knows Jimmy doesn’t like what he sees, and he’s a coward. And barring James Dean’s improv “stand up for me!” They don’t ever talk about it until the very last few lines of the movie. But you, the audience, know that all of that is happening in subtext because even though it’s not necessarily subtle, the way they communicate it is more realistic. It’s in the body language and the things the characters don’t say to one another and in their actions. But nowadays everybody just says exactly how they feel to each other in wittier and wittier screaming matches. Also the thing about Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park only shows dinosaurs for 11 minutes of screen time. The rest of it is pacing and suspense and real characters. The movie’s not about dinosaurs, it’s about trying to seize control of something you shouldn’t, and it’s about life (not dinosaurs, but hermit-like men learning to teach and take care of the next generation) finding a way. Contemporary movies don’t do it like that.
A film with an amazing soundtrack? Ratatouille! …what? It is

Here it is! My tradition of predicting what each song on a new Taylor album will be about, and being completely ✨wrong!✨
01 Fortnight [ft. Post Malone]
I was thinking about this this morning, and I have this feeling...A dance beat. Probably completely wrong, but I'll give my intuition this one.
02 The Tortured Poets Department
The thesis statement of this album. Will outline and explain the concept of the tortured poets department in broad brushstrokes. Contains many facets that will be explored individually on other songs. Biting, smart lyrics. Quick vocal delivery.
03 My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys
The second I saw this title, I thought of "why'd I have to break what I love so much?" from Afterglow. Scornful assessment of self-sabotaging habits of said boy. Possibly trying to justify why things Be Rough.
04 Down Bad
I'm excited for this one, because I think it will be a song about a relationship that the speaker is aware should end, but they don't have the heart for it. So instead sexy times.
05 So Long, London
I am terrified Taylor is going to cancel London, lol. Not sure if this is going to be a mournful goodbye or a biting one. It is so weird not having any idea what this album is going to sound like. This could be an upbeat bop for all I know. But I think it will swing back and forth between genuine hurt and bite.
I also think it won't only be about London specifically, but also cover the lifestyle, friends, and in-laws she had to leave behind. Been thinking about the post-jover implications of "family that I chose now that I see your brother as my brother." Pain.
06 But Daddy I Love Him
Justification of the procrastination of jover. I do wonder if this is a direct Little Mermaid reference, or just common terminology. If the former, maybe the audio clip from the movie plays at the beginning, and she never actually says the title in her lyrical content? I just can't imagine Taylor saying this for some reason, lol. Unless in a strongly country accent.
07 Fresh Out the Slammer
I think this might be a more carefree one with a sense of humor on display, or as carefree as one can be on the tortured poets department.
08 Florida!!! [ft. Florence and the Machine]
Probably about her eras dates there. I predict she will scream "Florida!!!" in a very like folky woodland fairy / spirit haunting the moors type of way.
09 Guilty as Sin?
For this one, I'm predicting a mock court case songwriting structure attempting to identify who is responsible for the problem(s) in a relationship. Maybe it will swing back and forth between "YOU'RE guilty as sin" and "I'm guilty as sin" and perhaps it will end on, "is either of us? Is it that black and white?" hence the question mark.
10 Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?
Maybe a commentary or consideration of how certain so-called grown men are scared of being written into her songs, and meditating on the power she holds from that. I'm just a writer. It's just songs. Why are you so scared of me? You shouldn't do bad things etc. etc.
11 I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)
The title seems pretty straight forward, but appearances can be deceiving. Maybe a to-do list of how to mend a fraught relationship. How You Get the Girl (Pain Version). A bit all over the place emotionally, and I don't mean this in a sexist "hysterical woman" way, but in a there will be a lot of different emotions way. Panic, sarcasm, hope.
12 LOML
This one holds intensely scary possibilities, but tbh, they all do. I've seen it theorized that the titular "loml" will stand for different things throughout the song. I don't know; and it's not my theory, so I cannot lay any claim to it if it's true. I'm going to say this one's a ballad, but I might be being influenced by the Queen song of the same name. What if she samples it? That's my wild card theory.
13 I Can Do It With a Broken Heart
Considering the language she used in the Time POTY article, I think it's fair to say this is about going onstage in the wake of jover. I'd say the moonshine/eclipse lyric is from this one. About recognizing your power and how you still have it, even when you may feel like shit.
14 The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived
Again pretty obvious...Maybe this album tells a chronological story and this is when she stops trying to justify her lover's actions and turns to putting them on unapologetic, well-written, scathing blast.
15 The Alchemy
I predict witchy, willow vibes. A list of ingredients on how to turn a love into gold. Another how-to song.
16 Clara Bow
I said the titular song is the thesis statement of the album, but I predict Clara Bow rephrases the thesis with the context of everything that comes before, like any good essay. Considering everything in her life and coming to grand, sweeping conclusions.
The Manuscript
A love letter? Maybe views the entire relationship through the frame of the manuscript is the accumulation of every single song she wrote about them? The story of us looks a lot like a tragedy now...Here is all the proof.
The Bolter
I've seen a lot of other fan theories about this one, and I do lean towards the prediction that it's about her tendency to bolt. How she frames that and what the conclusion of the story is: I should have bolted? You should have bolted? I was right all along and will be a bolter for the rest of my life?
The Albatross
The context of sailors capturing albatrosses and making fun of them being awkward on-land when they're so graceful alone in the sky...ow. Ms. Swift will definitely be doing something with that. Is SHE the albatross? Probably.
The Black Dog
This is one of the ones I'm most excited for because I think it will delve into really depressive topics really candidly and personally I could vibe with that.
It is kind of funny Taylor has not one but two songs named after animals on this album, and neither of them are cats.

Giraffe's Eye View: Christmas Specials Special (2023) | Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas
Chestnuts are roasting on an open fire. Jack Frost is nipping at your nose. Mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again. All the dogs in the neighborhood somehow learned to bark Jingle Bells in sync. Yet retail workers are still more annoyed with Mariah Carey. Snow is getting shoveled, tossed, and formed into sentient beings leading parades without permits. It makes for an excellent distraction as the Krampus abducts children for bad behavior. Fruitcake is exchanged only to find its permanent home in the garbage. Terrorists have hijacked the Holiday office party right before your boss can give you a Jelly of the Month Club membership as your bonus. And of course, the Turducken has returned to wreak its fiery vengeance upon an unsuspecting world! If all this doesn’t put you in the Christmas spirit, perhaps these following Holiday specials will!
Greetings people of today and robots of tomorrow! It is I, Santa Clark, your geeky giraffe friend with a deep love of Christmas! My obsession for the yuletide is rivaled only by Maleficent’s hatred for it, which is saying a lot considering she once teamed up with Mad Madam Mim to kidnap the literal Spirit of Christmas. Yes, that really happened. I know this due to my annual pilgrimage to the Island of Misfit Specials, home to obscure or nerdy festive media ranging from movies, TV episodes, and comics. It’s no easy journey. Constantly I find myself confronted by sinister snowmen, genocidal gingerbread men, and worst of all, crappy commercials. Getting stabbed in the foot by a candy-cane wielding cookie is one thing, but I swear I’ve seen that ad for Wilbur’s White Elephant Gift Emporium more times than I’ve seen Miracle on 34th Street! Sometimes at night I catch myself reciting that jingle. Wilbur’s White Elephant Gift Emporium: Where Christmas meets Convenience! Huh, maybe Maleficent had a point.
Nah, my deep-rooted appreciation for this time of year can weather even the most moronic marketing! It helps that most of the merry media I’ve seen have put me in the perfect Holiday mood! Examples include the time a Ninja Turtle found himself trapped in a truck full of stollen toys, a drunk department store Santa stumbling onto a wish-granting magic bag, Big Bird nearly becoming a popsicle, Gwenpool waking up in a world where Galactus took the place of jolly ol’ Saint Nicholas, a terrifying tree stump trying to slaughter some saps over a stupid ship war, and the year when Death gave the Little Match Girl the greatest gift of all. Needless to say, I thought I had seen it all. That is, until I took my friends on a trip to the Island, tasking them to find me new, strange, seasonal specials to review! Some of them were fair, finding me festive favorites as comforting as coco in front of the fireplace. Others were fiendish, wanting to feed off my misery like Gremlins after midnight. Regardless of how naughty or nice my companions were, I’ve compiled all of their suggestions into a makeshift advent calendar! So stay tuned everyday until Christmas to see how badly my buddies can shred what little sanity I have left.
On the fourteenth day of Christmas, my buddies gave to me...
Tumblr media
One of my oldest memories is watching Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas with my family every year when I was younger. Little Clark always got excited when his mom popped that tape into the VCR. There was always something so magical about this movie that drew me in each December. If nothing else it was one of the few highlights in Disney’s direct-to-video catalog. Much as I could complain about the follow ups to The Little Mermaid, Mulan, or Brother Bear, I’d gladly take any of these turds over the live-action remakes any day. Especially when said sequels exceeded expectations every so often. This festive anthology is such an example. Honestly, it's a wonder why I haven’t talked about it until now. Thank goodness the totally tubular Tiger (AnimatedTigerGirl) gave me an excuse to do so. Without any further ado, let’s see what awaits us under the tree.
Nestled neatly beneath an immaculate evergreen are three special presents; a boat, a teddy bear, and a miniature sleigh. Each represents an original short, the first being Donald Duck: Stuck on Christmas. Actually, putting the foul-tempered foul’s name in the title is a bit misleading since the story actually focuses on Huey, Dewey, and Louie (Russi Taylor). Like most kids on Christmas, they wake up early to eagerly tear into the presents, ignore their relatives in favor of playing with their new toys, then end the day by pigging out on a traditional turkey dinner. Wait, turkey?! Good lord, they’re cannibals! Between this and Woodstock from A Charlie Brown Christmas, my current theory is that all animated avifauna are anthropologists! Seriously, why is this a recurring trend in media? Another common cliche utilized is wishing upon a star, the boys begging for Christmas everyday. You fools! This is a Disney movie, doing that’s actually effective here! And unlike Timmy Turner or Elmo, these birdbrains end up with the same exact Christmas. It’s like Groundhog Day, minus the suicide montage. Instead we get Uncle Donald (Tony Anselmo) butchering breakfast, sloppy kisses from Aunt Gertie (Tress MacNeille), and Scrooge (Alan Young) singing hoaky carols on the piano. Give the geezer a break boys, these three ghosts gave him a hard time about being a humbug. No carols equals chains for the rest of his afterlife. Whether that’d be worse than experiencing the same day on loop is up for debate. Either way the boys quickly become bored getting stuck in a constant rerun. Not even adding their typical brand of mischief helps, so eventually they elect to plan a perfect Christmas for everybody. They even sacrifice the sleds gifted from Donald to craft him a crude one-man boat. A boat that falls apart almost immediately. Like the song says, he gets stuck with all the bad luck. Overall, Stuck on Christmas is fine, if not a tad repetitive. You’ve seen this type of tale told a million times before and know exactly what to expect. It’s not bad by any means, a lot of the jokes landing perfectly. Still, out of the three plots presented, this is the weakest one.
Fortunately A Very Goofy Christmas makes up for that! Max (Shaun Fleming) is confronted by a conflict of faith when his neighbor Pete (Jim Cummings) declares that Santa isn’t real. Pete, this is exactly why Peg packed up and left with the kids! How can you shatter a child’s dreams like that? Oh right, cuz like Yamai Ren and Lord Zedd, you have a permanent place on the Naughty List. Serves you right for kidnapping Minnie for all those years. Still, his words sting Max, much to the dismay of his father Goofy (Bill Farmer). Like always he’s the best cartoon dad, comforting his son as best he can while also providing a hot meal for his struggling neighbors. Y’know, whenever he’s not wrecking a mall or burning his butt. The absurdity of Goofy escaping a giant ornament Indiana Jones style balances out nicely with the drama centered around his son’s dilemma. It all comes to a boil when Max catches his pop pretending to be Santa, prompting the dippy dog to prove that the festive fatman isn’t a fake. All of his attempts fail, even sending him flailing off the roof. By then Max doesn’t care, just wanting his old man to smile again. Thus he turns the tables and dresses up like Kris Kringle to fool his father, nearly falling off the roof himself. In the end they embrace, happy that they have each other regardless of whether Santa exists or not. Given this is a cartoon produced by Disney though, Saint Nick naturally shows up to give Max a snowboard before burying Pete’s house in snow. A perfect ending to my favorite segment. Granted, Goofy is one of my all time favorite characters, so I might be biased here. Still, having been harassed over my own belief in Santa makes this story very relatable to me. The fact that Goofy nearly catches pneumonia trying to convince his son that there’s still magic in the world hits me right in the feels. Out of these three plotlines, this one’s easily the best.
In a close second is our last segment, Mickey and Minnie's Gift of the Magi. Both Mickey (Wayne Allwine) and Minnie (Taylor) are dreaming of giving each other the perfect present. Problem is neither of them have any money. A relatable conundrum if ever there was one. Each of them try to earn more at their crappy jobs, Mickey working for Pete as his tree lot while Minnie wraps packages at a department store. Sadly the former gets fired for helping a family find a cheaper tree as opposed to his boss’s ridiculously overpriced ten-footers. Again Pete, you should know better. What family actually wants a tree that tall? Asides from the Griswolds, I mean. Imagine the hassle trying to decorate the darn thing. I say as if he cares. Pete’s so furious he steals Mickey’s tips, which I’m pretty sure is illegal. Though the blow heart's gonna need that money after he sets his forest on fire. Maybe now that family can afford those ten footers! Things aren’t much better for Minnie, her boss Mortimer (Jeff Bennett) giving her a fruitcake as a bonus. Minnie proceeds to loudly declare him to be a heartless, brainless, dickless, fatass piece of monkey shit. Hallelujah! She then walks home with a fruitcake, no job, and in need of Tylenol. Left with no other options, both give up what they value most in order to give the other a gift, a scene that’s as sweet as it sounds. Adding to the cuteness is Wayne and Russi’s performance as the duo, the two having actually been married in real life. It’s killing me with cuteness! The only reason I don’t consider this the best of the lot is because of the admittedly simplistic story. Goofy trying to catch Claus was just more compelling to me. Regardless, Gift of the Magi is the perfect conclusion to this trilogy of shorts. That is if all the characters didn’t come together to sing a medley of merry tunes.
Here’s how you can tell someone watched something way too often: when they can sing along to the SheDAISY rendition of “Deck the Halls" that plays over the credits. Like I said, this was a seasonal staple in my house when I was younger and still is to this day. The same sadly can’t be said for Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas, but that’s a story for another day. For now, I hope I’ve expressed just how much this movie fills me with joy! It’s made so many wonderful memories for my family and I over the years. Just like I hope it will with my children, and their children, and their children after that. Regardless of what you watch this year, go make some memories with the people you love.
But seriously though, NO MORE NUTCRACKERS!

My little opinion on The Little Mermaid
Just got home from watching The Little Mermaid, and let's just start out with, I enjoyed the film. I thought it was good, or at the very least good enough. So, I wanna give my thoughts. I'm gonna go through various points, each discussing the things I didn't like with the things I did like.
Beware, it's gonna be spoiler heavy.
Classic songs
What I didn't like:
First, while I don't mind the song being cut, it does feel like it was missing from this film, and that was Les Poissons, though to be fair, I don't see how it would fit into the film.
I thought Under The Sea was really weak. It was just Sebastian and Ariel singing most of the time. The thing is, the song only works if it's an entire choir singing. This is also something that comes up more in the classic songs, the only ones singing are the main cast, but in Under The Sea, this is especially bad because the song relies on the choir singing, since that's how Ariel was going to escape.
Also, I don't feel they did my favorite song, Part Of Your World, justice, at least not the main version. The reprises are okay to actually really good, but I'll talk about that later. The thing is, the singing wasn't bad per se, it's just that, the articulation, the timing, all that just felt off, mainly because it was too perfectly timed.
The thing I liked about the original was that it was dancing around the beat, sometimes lagging behind, sometimes being ahead by a bit. It felt theatrical, but also, more natural. This just felt off.
But also, I love Halle Bailey's voice, but she didn't exactly pull off the right emotions. The beginning is supposed to be really small, then it goes more grandiose, until it dies off. I can't really explain it, but, it just felt like it ended too strong, the beauty of the original was that it just died down, became more fragile by the end. This was needed, because the reprises of this song were there to show the difference in confidence and resolve.
What I did like:
Kiss The Girl was good, it was fun. It wasn't as grand as the original, but it worked, they made it work. It felt more intimate.
Fathoms Below was also a good one, and, spoilers for the rest of the review, but the movie didn't start off with that song, that song was moved to Eric's birthday, which was what I expected when it didn't show up at the start.
But the one song I thought blew every other song out of the water was Poor Unfortunate Souls. Melissa McCarthy really blew that one out of the water. I loved it, it became one of my favorite songs of the movie. The way she sung it really felt like Ursula.
New songs
What I didn't like:
I thought Wild Uncharted Waters and The Scuttlebutt were pretty weak songs, especially the latter song, I really did not like that one. It's fortunate that that song was the shortest song.
Wild Uncharted Waters just felt like a cut song that they brought back for this film, which hopefully wasn't the case, but I don't know, I think the main problem I have with that song is that it was sung in a too low register. Only when it went a few semitones higher did it sound decent. I don't think there was anything really wrong with this song, it just felt boring.
What I did like:
For the First Time was a great song, almost being as great as the classic songs. Unlike Jasmine's song, this song actually added a lot to this film, and actually set the new tone of the film. I also loved how the tone shifted throughout the song.
Changed things
What I didn't like:
Honestly, just the first time when Ariel became a human. In the original, Eric found her. In this version, some random fisherman finds her. Sure it set up how the rest of the story would work out, but I just liked how the original had the meet cute, and it would be kinda mirrored in how Ariel originally left Eric, and also how Eric found Vanessa.
Also the fact that Eric doesn't play flute anymore. Him throwing his flute in the ocean was such a powerful scene.
Finally a minor thing, but the fact that they moved Fathoms Below to the birthday scene. Maybe how they changed Scuttle into a girl, but I didn't really care about this that much, Awkwafina was a fine casting for Scuttle.
What I did like:
Let's start with the elephant in the room, because that's one thing that will polarize people. In the original, Eric was the one who murked Ursula, in this one, it was Ariel who did it. I found it thematically more fitting than having Eric do it. Sure, Eric had a good motivation for killing Ursula, that motivation being getting it on with a mermaid, but by switching it up, they turned it into Ariel righting what went wrong. By changing it up, it turned into Eric having to swim back to shore by himself.
Also I did like how Eric wasn't the biological son of the king and queen, and that there was a substory about why Eric wanted to travel.
There were quite a lot of things they changed, but it was all for the better of the film in my opinion. One thing I really liked was how they actually developed the budding romance between Ariel and Eric.
Also turning the wedding into an engagement party made so much more sense.
Some other notes
Before going to the dislikes and likes, I just wanted to say I got jumpscared at two points. One where Ariel was grabbed by the thingies on her way to Ursula, and one in an earlier scene, where Eric was floating down and suddenly Ariel grabbed him from behind to save him.
What I didn't like:
The final battle. The CGI Ursula just looked bad. Sure, there was a lot of CGI that obviously looked CGI, but to me, they looked fine, or at least good enough. The final battle? That looked like shit.
What I did like:
Call it a hot take, but I thought Melissa McCarthy was really hot and sexy in this film. She put a certain sex appeal into Ursula that turned her from a bad guy into a "bad" guy.
Also, the underwater scenes weren't as dark and colorless as people made it out to be, or at least the trailers didn't do this film any justice.
Overall, I liked the film. Was it a necessary live action adaptation? Most certainly not. But was it enjoyable? Yes, I'd even go as far to say that I had fun.

So back in July. I asked my followers to recommend me what anime to watch in my free time. From the responses that I got, I compiled a list of animes that I either never got around to or simply never would’ve watched normally and promised to watch them all fully and personally review and rate each one. I finally finished them all so here you go!
Spoilers are below for the following:
Gunsmith Cats
My Bride is a Mermaid
Ping Pong the Animation
Dusk Maiden of Amnesia
Mushishi + all seasons and movies
Planet With
Kokkoku
Chikyuu Bouei Kigyou Dai-Guard
Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru
Blue Submarine No. 6
Future Boy Conan
The way I score things
10: All time personal favorite. Strongly appeals to my personal tastes and sticks with me. 9: Nearly Perfect. Very enjoyable. Sticks with me. 8: A Great show with flaws that hold it back from a 9. 7: A solid good show. Enjoyable. May have issues 6: Decent, fine, average. I don't have any strong feelings for but kept me engaged to finish it. May even be seen as a good show but personally disappoints me in some way. 5: Mediocre. No strong feelings one way or another. Slightly dislike it, forgettable, and or boring. 4. Bad. There are flaws and they are apparent. Frustrating. 3. Borderline waste of time. Almost few or no positive things to say about it. 2. Garbage. No redeeming qualities other than being bad. 1. Personally offends me. *Just because a show is riddled with flaws doesn't mean it can't still score a 7,8,9, or even a 10 if a show aligns with my personal interests.
*Also if you recommended a show and I reviewed it weird or scored it differently than you please don’t take it the wrong way. Different media for different people and all that.

Gunsmith Cats: 8/10
Rally Vincent knows her weapons well, while her partner Minne May Hopkins loves to play with explosives. The pair run a gun-shop illegally and one day Bill Collins of the ATF, blackmails Rally and Minnie May into working for the ATF. Little do they know, that they are getting involved in a mission larger than they could imagine.
Gunsmith Cats is short fun series that I personally treated as a movie (since it was only 3 parts) based on the manga with the same name. Good episode 1 and 3 but a phenomenal episode 2. Very good action animation with likeable character designs. It was fun seeing an anime take place in a surprisingly realistic Chicago and was pretty light on American stereotypes. Unfortunately, I found the ending to be very anti-climatic and left more to be desired. Had the ending been better, the entire experience would’ve been far more memorable.
It has been brought to my attention that the anime adaptation cuts out a fair share of content from the source material which is why characters with histories with other characters show up throughout and talk to each other casually as if the viewer should almost even know who they are. Knowing that doesn’t bother me too much since I never read the manga but knowing stuff has been filled over or removed is a little disappointing. Would’ve loved some more Rally backstory and development though but there just wasn’t enough time for it.

My Bride is a Mermaid: 7.5/10
Michishio Nagasumi's life couldn't be any more normal. In an odd twist of events, during his summer vacation he ends up almost drowning in the sea. Luckily, the cute mermaid Sun Seto appears to save him. However, Sun is from a yakuza mermaid family and according to their law, if a human is to catch sight of a mermaid, either he or the mermaid must die. The only other way is for Nagasumi to be taken in as a family member, marrying Sun. In attempts to save both of their lives, Nagasumi asks for Sun's hand in marriage. Nagasumi's summer vacation reaped more then what he would expect, as he must now protect Sun from others finding her secret out.
Went in with mixed expectations but I found it to be a pretty funny parody rom-com. Admittedly, it had a rough start for me and I didn’t really find it all that funny until the setting settled into the school but I’m glad I stuck with it because once it hit its strive it was very enjoyable. Though I will say that there is quite a few instances of no-homo humor that annoyed me a bit but the show came out in 2007 and that was very much a thing rampant in media back then and I’m also able to look past that stuff and enjoy the rest. There were some really stand out bits that are going to stay with me for a long time. Very catchy opening and the 2nd ending song is really good; watched through that credit sequence fully everytime and never got tired of it. The english voice cast was super solid and I’m glad I watched it dubbed. If I didn’t watch it dubbed I would probably score it a 7 instead because I feel anime comedies are multitudes funnier in the language you know best and when you can pick up on the nuance in the way voicelines and jokes are delivered. Maki’s voice got on my nerves though but I wouldn’t say that it was the voice actresses fault for the character being the way they are.
Funny show aside, the final arc bothered me quite a bit. It was fun that the main cast got together to fight a greater evil but the seriousness of it all felt extremely out of place. The threat of rape directed towards an unconscious and unresponding Sun was WAY too serious from the wacky antics of the rest of the show. The show skirted on sexual humor at times but nothing prior ever got close in tone for such a massive shift in story direction. The way the final arc started also didn’t feel right because it needed to have the main character Nagasumi act extremely out of character and be comically antagonistic towards Sun for no real good reason in order to set up the following series of events. I’m glad nothing bad came out as a result of the final arc but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth in what should have been a celebration of all the past episodes. I absolutely didn’t like it.
After I finished it, I looked up the writer for the series Tahiko Kimura, and apparently this was the last series that he’s ever created with Artifact Red and Yo no na wa Zushio being the 2 series that he made prior and it’s quite a shame because you could feel their comedic writing improve greatly throughout the series and I could imagine that their next work would only continue with this rising stride minus what he wrote in the final couple of episodes.
Tumblr media
Ping Pong the Animation: 10/10
Tsukimoto Makoto (nicknamed Smile) is a quiet high-schooler who's been friends with the loud and energetic Hoshino Yukata (nicknamed Peko). They're both in the table tennis club and are very good at it, though Smile's personality prevents him from winning against Peko. The club teacher however notices Smile's talent and tries to make him gain some sportive tenacity.
Ping Pong is an exceptional show. A beautifully and uniquely crafted coming of age story and one that certainly doesn't come along often. Nothing about Ping Pong felt ordinary while still telling a very human story and a very emotional and realistic one at that. It's hard to not recognize its artistic merit. Ping Pong also tackles an aspect about sports that you don’t see very often and that’s when does the sport you commit yourself to stop becoming enjoyable and how that not only changes you but how you treat other players within the sport and your loved ones as well. And that just because you’ve lost sight of yourself, your roots of what brought you into something, and your enjoyment of it. Doesn’t mean you can’t find it again, start all over, and still find happiness and/or purpose. In the words of tumblr user @pippenpaddlopsicopolisthethird who is way more versed in writing than I am, “how the tradeoff between talent, practice, and who you are outside of your achievements can scar the spirits of kids, and what it feels like to wrestle with the tension between your core understanding of yourself and how others expect you to be”. And that “Every major character goes through massive restructurings of their fundamental sense of self and how they see others, and that every single arc comes to a well-rounded and satisfying end”.
Phenomenal soundtrack except for the song in the opening which was.. not great and didn’t really fit with the rest of the soundtrack of the show imo. Speaking of music, this maybe one of my favorite Kensuke Ushio works to date. Every song of his has so much personality and freshness to it and adds a completely other level to the show and makes scenes incredibly memorable and engaging. Ping Pong can be a little much at times and has a roundabout way of doing things especially in the middle. Wish I didn’t wait so long to watch this show but in the end, I’m glad I finally experienced it. Hard recommend to anyone and everyone even if you don’t care about ping pong because I know I didn’t going in. Currently 2nd favorite sports anime after Hajime no Ippo. You got to fall before you know what it feels to fly.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia: 4/10
60 years ago, a young woman was left to die in the abandoned school building behind the exclusive Seikyou Academy. No one knows why. No one knows how. But the horrifying tale and the legends of the ghostly haunting that followed live on to this day. Perhaps it's not so surprising then, that among Seikyou's many school clubs is one for students interested in "paranormal investigations." What might raise more than a few hairs, however, is that the founder of the club is the ghost herself. Unable to remember how she died and trapped in the grey land between life and death, Yuuko latches onto Teiichi Niiya, a freshman who can inexplicably see her, and together they and the other unsuspecting members of the club begin to unravel the many dark mysteries that surround Seikyou. Will unlocking the secret of Yuuko's gruesome death finally free her? Or will her sudden close association with a mortal have even stranger repercussions on both of their existences?
It wasn’t going to be easy following up to a show like Ping Pong but dusk maiden of amnesia can be tldr’d down to I simply wasn’t the target audience for this kind of show nor is it the kind of romance story I tend to get invested in but even still, there were issues with it that were hard for me to ignore. Dusk Maiden is an oddly cutesy (if that is even the right word for it) show with a heavy paint layer of dark color pallets and a sinister atmosphere. While not a harem, it acts like a harem almost immediately off the bat with all 3 girls batting for protag-kun’s attention and affection for some reason for a good majority of the show. A lot of the deep meaning and seriousness of scenes are quickly undone by it’s inclination to fall back to boob fondling and ecchi tactics at any moment no matter the tone nor the seriousness of the scene prior. Everything just feels crazy out of place at all moments including Yuuko’s horny levels toward protag-kun and his varying levels of reciprocating love towards her.
For a romance-mystery-supernatural show, the romance between the members of the cast never felt genuine but rather convenient and unearned. Even though the main cast is a mighty number of only 4 characters, there is an extreme lack of communication between them at times and I feel a lot of the episodes get stretched out the way they do because of this on top of there being already a ton of miscommunication between them. The last 4 episodes finally get to the meat of the most important mystery which is Yuuko herself but by then my interest in it had already sailed.

Mushi-Shi: 9/10
They are neither plants nor animals. They differ from other forms of life such as the micro-organisms and the fungi. Instead they resemble the primeval body of life and are generally known as "Mushi". Their existence and appearance are unknown to many and only a limited number of humans are aware of them. Ginko is a "Mushi-shi" who travels around to investigate and find out more about the "Mushi". In the process, he also lends a helping hand to people who face problems with supernatural occurrences which may be related to the "Mushi".
Mushishi is an award winning anime that is also associated with having one of the highest ratings amongst anime even to this day. Now that I finished it, I can say it’s for a very good reason. I took my time with watching this one for it is told in a very relaxed and controlled manner but never does it step into being boring and uninteresting. Mushishi plays out a series of 26 very unique and stand alone tales like a storybook as we experience and solve each tale with the main character Ginko who is a calm, friendly, and well-versed Mushi professional. Mushi are spirit like entities that most can’t see but inhabit and interact with the natural world and with peoples lives. Ginko is a Mushi-shi who are travelers and free agents who treat said phenomena and help those who have gotten their lives entwined with them. The mushi range from being cute and harmless to being horrifying and nightmarish with each episode requiring different solutions in order to treat, prevent, keep at bay, and cope or live with.
Not every episode/story told is a happy one. Some are happy, many are bittersweet, and a couple stories are outright depressing and tragic. The show has been described by many as a cozy slice of life by many but I’ll be honest, I in good conscience can’t 100% share the same description lol. The show may give off unanimously chill vibes and it IS an adventure slice of life, but the show was ripe full of subtle anxiety inducing moments that glued me to the storytelling. I found myself being aware and attentive with my expectations prepared for the worst to happen at the end of each episode. Though I guess I still did overall feel at peace watching each episode despite this.
The show did a fantastic job pacing itself out. Telling 26 unique stories with each episode having a beginning, middle, and end without feeling rushed or too slow. Sorry that this mini review is getting on the longer side but it’s hard to talk about this show in a concise way because there is so much to unpack and talk about. 9 out of 10, would recommend watching but I’m aware it’s not for everybody. Wouldn’t be a bad idea peppering a little of it into your current watching schedule.
Mushi-Shi ZOKU SHOU: 9/10
The natural continuation of the series. Carries the exact same tone, vibes, pacing, and style of story telling of the first season. If I was put in a blind fold test, I wouldn’t know that this season was released 9 years after the first one. The set of stories this time around aren’t nearly as bittersweet as the first season and I did feel that Ginko was somewhat less involved with the cases this time around. I’ll just say it now, but I absolutely love Ginko as a character. Such a cool dude, love that guy. Before I watched the show I always pegged him as a dude that just keeps to himself, gets easily annoyed by other people, lays around and only spectates. But he’s like the complete opposite. He’s got so much going on, fantastic protagonist. He’s also problematic in that he makes smoking tobacco look cool.
Mushi-Shi The Shadow that Devours the Sun: 8/10
Hey the sun is pretty important dudes. When you see that frame of the doctors house and the sea, it’s an reliable indication that the story/episode is going to be a good one. I really enjoyed the scene where the show all the characters from the previous episodes viewing the eclipse.
Mushi-Shi Path of Thorns: 6.5/10
It was good although I can safely say that I won’t lose any sleep if there were no more Minai clan scenes or episodes from here on out. I think it was a good idea to make what would have been episode 11 and 12 into a special. Kind of disappointed in what I’m led to believe was the forbidden mushi or at least is the nature of the forbidden mushi. There was a lot of foreshadowing for it.
Mushi-Shi Second Season: 9/10
2nd season of the 2nd season. The clever bastard that recommended mushi-shi when I asked for a 26 episode or less anime full well knowing that I would get hooked into watching past the first season really got the most bang for their buck so far in terms of their recommendation lol. I kid though, Mushi-shi has been great.
Mushi-Shi SUZU NO SHIZUKU: 7/10
New lord dropped. Very bittersweet ending but still enjoyable. The quiet scene after the credits and not being given a title for the next episode invoked a unique sense of finality that I haven’t experienced in a long time.

Planet With: 5.5/10
Souya Kuroi has dreams of people with superpowers fighting a massive dragon in the sky, but his real life is almost as weird. He's had amnesia for about two weeks and been taken in by a maid and an anthropomorphic cat. When a UFO in the shape of a stuffed bear approaches Sorimasaka City and other metros around the world, he's startled to see seven rainbow-sparkling heroes zoom out to confront it – just like in his dream. Even weirder, the maid wants him to leave his shelter to confront these heroes and take the source of their power.
Planet With is a show that I otherwise would’ve never watched on my own accord but having finished it, I thought it was overwhelmingly alright. First, I need to get this out of the way right now; this show ain’t great looking. The CGI throughout the show is generally terrible, making action scenes have no weight to them in terms of actual combat and most actions that have the intention of looking cool and impactful end up feeling floaty and silly. The 2D hand drawn stuff is fine but doesn’t make up for the CG implemented in this show. Secondly, for a good chunk of the show the main character Soya sucks major ass. Imagine young Simon from TTGL but instead of being afraid and having low confidence he’s instead angry, dumb, and unfriendly. 60-70% of the time he’s either whining and complaining about something and we the viewer are stuck with him with usually no end to his whining in sight but luckily he does get better in the last 2 episodes when he becomes almost a carbon copy of a time skip ttgl Simon.
Another problem with having ugly action scenes is that this show tries so very hard to be hot blooded and almost Gurren Lagann-esq but is simply never cool and stylish enough to make it work. The intent is all there but it can never pull off the execution. You can tell this show came out in 2018 because it has aggressively bad bass boosted and out of place sound effects like fate apocrypha. On a positive note, Planet With was VERY bold in how it did it’s reveals. As weird as the plot was, Planet With somehow delivered it all in a easy to follow and engaging way, dropping a story changing plot point every other episode. Every character manages to get their backstory in even if it’s all done in a predictable and unremarkable way. Cramming all the elements of the story into 12 episodes as cleanly as it did is arguably one of the show’s greatest feats and honestly, I can’t believe it pulled it off. Lastly, I’m not sure how I feel about the way the show dealt with genocide and forgiveness but I think I’m simply not going to think to hard about it.

Kokkoku: 8/10
Juri Yukawa lives with her NEET father and brother, her retired grandfather, her sister and her young nephew. One day, her nephew and brother are kidnapped for ransom. Having only 30 minutes to meet the demands of the kidnappers, Juri, who realizes there is not enough time to prepare the money, decides to head for their rescue by herself with knife in hand when her grandfather uses a mysterious stone passed on in the Yukawa family to stop time. In a world where everyone and everything are inert, Juri and her father and grandfather run to rescue the two. But at the kidnappers' hideout, they soon realize they are not the only ones who can move about in this still world...
Took a month break after watching Planet With since I became more interested in playing videogames in my spare time but I finally managed to getting around to Kokkoku. Kokkoku is a supernatural thriller without the usual quick tense pace of a thriller. I found the premise and the hook in the first episode immediately engaging with each subsequent episode adding more clownery to the clown car up to the point where the climax felt like a final fight in a Jojo arc. There always seemed to be new problems arising with the exception of the last two episodes where the tension lessens and stuff finally cools down. The cast was likeable enough, maybe not the most exciting cast of characters but they all served their purposes. The villain was fun and everytime a bad guy was killed off it felt very satisfying to watch. And despite seeming like a weird confusing show at first glance, it was all very straightforward and easy to understand. I was hardly ever confused about what was going on and I greatly enjoyed the pacing of it all. I also watched the dub over the sub where I found the english voicework pretty well done even though I’ve heard better dubs before. Not once did I feel compelled to switch to subbed while watching. I overall really enjoyed my time with this show and found it to be fun watch despite its faults which I’m about to get into.
So first off and most importantly, the deus ex machina in the final episode is easily my biggest gripe with the show. A happy ending was well deserved but the way it happens is simply too convenient especially how well structured I felt the rest of the story was. Nowhere in the story was that blonde woman we saw in the first episode ever get hinted at being an un-aging wife of the man who made the stasis stone and the fact that she was there in Japan of all places to be pulled into Juri’s stasis and save her when she was about to fall into despair is the most out of nowhere plot development in the show. I kept assuming that blonde woman would show up and cause problems at the end of every episode since her entering stasis was one of the first things we saw when time stopped. Also the spirit dragon creature with the gouged out eye never appeared at any moment before the very end and it would’ve been cool to see that thing get hinted at beforehand for added mystery but there was never any mystery to it since it only showed up when the deus ex machina moment happened. I liked the happy ending but not like this lol. Dropping in such a virtuoso of plot knowledge at the very end is a big no no for me so I do feel like the well fought for ending that I was hoping for was stolen away in order of convenience.
Now some other random gripes. There isn’t a lot but there is a surprising amount of out place sex jokes for some reason and the credits felt a little tasteless opening up with Juri in her underwear for some reason despite that not being close to the tone of the show at all. A lot of the episodes end in dire cliffhangers that usually get de-escalated at the start of the next episode lessening their impact each time. I also felt that despite the high stake and dangerous situations that the family members found themselves in, I never felt that they were ever in any real danger. The superpowers of the family were too over powered for most of the bad guys to remotely handle and if things got bad I knew grandpa would teleport them out of there. Also unlike virtually every other review I’ve read for this show, I feel like I’m one of the few people that didn’t care much for the opening song and I rushed to skip it every time but it does stand out as an opening though I’ll give it that. I liked the show and had a lot of fun watching it all unfold but at the end of the day, I can’t help but feel like something was still missing from it all and I can’t quite put my finger on it.

Chikyuu Bouei Kigyou Dai-Guard: 6.5/10
Thirteen years after their sudden disappearance, an alien race known as the Heterodyne resurface without warning. To combat the Heterodyne, three office workers from the 21st Century Security Corporation operate Dai-Guard - a giant robot no longer regarded as an oversized paperweight. Unfortunately, Dai-Guard is somewhat obsolete and in disrepair. It's a tough job, but salarymen can also save the world.
So.. some of you may recall me praising Dai-Guard quite a bit when I started it and posting about it and such and I will still stand by that praise. This show has a very good start. It felt fresh, original, and fun to watch. Dai-Guard as a mech is a great design and is easy on the eyes even though it’s moveset was somewhat limited. It was easy to root for a shitty broken down mech described as a financial money pit mascot after it stopped being needed years ago. But Dai-Guard unfortunately doesn’t carry that momentum all the way through.
Dai-Guard isn’t a bad show by any margin, it’s pretty good for the most part but it plays it very safe and once it establishes its monster of the week formula it eventually gets pretty stale as it is predictable. You can jump from episode 11 to episode 23 and you’ll probably notice no changes in a characters dynamic to one another. You have a colorful cast of characters for the most part but they don’t really play off each other that much in terms of development. You’ll have an episode dedicated to one of the pilots sole character development and the next will be another and vice versa, never as a whole team. Relationships amongst one another mainly stay the same. They don’t seem to hang out with each other and for the most part are shown mostly together only when they are clocked in at work. And at the end of the day, while no ones positions in respect to another really change, everything else also doesn’t really change. The kaiju still do kaiju things. the military still does annoying military things, corporate higher ups be doing selfish corporate higher up things, etc.
The animation and the soundtrack is pretty good and while I noticed a drop in animation quality in some parts it never at all became distracting. I found myself also enjoying the Dai-Guard ownership politics between the company and the military and the fiscal responsibility for city and personal property damage after a kaiju is defeated. For a giant mecha show, the mecha fights aren’t always in the spotlight. Dai-Guard as a story is really invested in showing the power struggle behind the scene when dealing with city wide threats and catastrophes. It becomes quickly apparent that the biggest monsters are military boot lickers and greedy corporate suits that are so far removed from the common working class. Nothing is more dangerous for the protection of the citizens than big business cats calling the shots and an uncaring and by the code military choosing what’s best for themselves first and foremost. I do really like the idea of common workers being put into the role and responsibility of piloting a big ass mech and stopping kaiju but I just wish their side job as Dai-Guards pilots weren’t constantly challenged by the military higher ups believing that these three individuals that have consistently saved the day are some how not trained and practiced enough to handle the job instead of military dudes who have only simulation training. Also the show did jump between depicting the military as villains and heroes that it got hard to get a sense of where the writers stood when it came to the military. Some episodes the military were nothing but problem makers and others the main cast would smile and be relieved at the presence of the military. So that was pretty weird but I kind of got used to it.

Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru: 6.5/10
Yuuna Yuuki is an ordinary second-year middle school student. She gets up in the morning, gets ready for school, goes to classes, participates in club activities, and has fun with her friends. But there is one extraordinary thing about Yuuki - she belongs to the “Brave Hero Club”. What does the Brave Hero Club do? Who is the mysterious being called “Vertex?” Yuuki Yuuna and her friends’ story takes place in Year 300, Era of the Gods.
I won’t lie, I was a little hesitant to start Yuuki Yuuna. It didn’t scream all that interesting at first glance and the only time of the day that I had time to watch it was at work around others which made me super self conscious of my surroundings. But in the end, I can say that it was a neat show with very pretty visuals that doesn’t ask for much from the viewer nor does it really set out to be this crazy unique original story. Yuuki Yuuna isn’t my first magical girl soldier conscripted into life or death battles under dubious contract circumstances rodeo but that didn’t really bother me because unlike a lot of other post Madoka Magica magical girl animes. Yuuki Yuuna doesn’t do it with malicious intent or for the sake of the edge™️. In fact, it’s almost the opposite. Yuuki Yuuna wants to be a cutesy hanging with the gals slice of life show more than anything, there just happens to be messed up magical girl elements and consequences looming at all times or at least that’s how I viewed it.
Now why did I score it a 6.5 and maybe not something like a 7? It’s because frankly I never felt any real attachment or care towards any of the characters. Most of the run time of the show is spent doing slice of life things with the five girls while they’re not fighting the vertex but I never found any of the girls really all that interesting. Just five playdough characters that are molded into any kind of narrative direction just to make me feel something when needed. But I guess if I were to choose, I found the health nut tsundere girl Karin the most enjoyable and her bloom form was the most cool in my opinion. While I’m still talking about the characters, there was also a weird amount of fanservice/ecchi moments for what are some of the most un-fanserviceable cast of underage characters you can get and I was grossed out everytime the show decided to focus on the girls butts or chests as if catering to an audience I greatly not want to think about.
In conclusion, I thought the show was fine and it had some pretty great reveals that hooked me back in throughout. While enemy designs were whatever, the fight scenes still looked very good and they were a nice visual contrast compared to whenever they were just doing club activities. I’m also not sure how Yuuki Yuuna has like five other season/spinoffs not counting a sequel season that’s a prequel but unlike Mushishi, I’m content stopping at one season and it would take an incredible feat of persuasion to change my mind otherwise.

Blue Submarine No. 6: 7/10
The once famous and well respected scientist Zorndyke has bred a new genre of living being, one that thrives on the oceans and lives to destroy humans. Zorndyke believes it is time that the humans were relieved of their rule of the earth. It is up to Blue Submarine No. 6 and the rest of the Blue fleet to put an end to Zorndyke's madness and creations.
PS1 CGI GRAPHICS  PS1 CGI GRAPHICS PS1 CGI GRAPHICS PS1 CGI GRAPHICS PS1 CGI GRAPHICS! Blue Submarine No. 6 is an 1998 adaptation of the 1967 Blue Submarine No. 6 manga that has a little bit of everything. Within four episodes Blue Submarine has human struggles, out of place loud jazz music, sci-fi military submarines, gunboats, mermaid piloted mechs, talking whales, Warhammer goblins and orks, protags having trauma and existential crises, bad looking cg explosions, a girl in a skin tight bodysuit, very nice looking 2D hand drawn animation combined with incredibly dated ps1 cgi graphics, and violence. It’s like you take all these cool ideas and concepts and try to pull them all together into one cool experience. Now this might sound like one big mess of a show but I swear that it’s not, it was actually pretty enjoyable if you get into it.
That said, all the characters are kind of garbage ngl. They feel dated in how their written and some suffer being kinda 1 dimensional (sorry bodysuit girl). Zorndyke’s motives were sketchy at best but the way he’s presented, the presence he alludes, and the way others treat him. He very much reminds me of the character Kurtz in the book Heart of Darkness and I wonder if that was a possible inspiration for his character. Also I wasn’t expecting such cool monster human designs in this show and I felt that when the phantom ship crewmates were on screen I was watching warhammer ork boyz and it was very entertaining. The amount of promotional art of the mermaid humanoid girl made me think she was going to play a huge role in the show but I felt she could’ve done more honestly. She would show up like once or twice an episode for a couple scenes and that’d be it. Finally, the phantom ship has to be one of the coolest fictional ship designs I have seen in a long time.

Future Boy Conan: 8.5/10
July 2008. Mankind was faced with the threat of extinction. An ultra-magnetic weapon, far more devastating than any nuclear weapon known, destroyed half the world in an instant. The earth's crust was rocked by massive movements, the earth was thrown off its axis, and the five continents were torn completely apart and sank deep below the sea... The attempt by a number of people to flee to outer space failed. Their spaceships were forced back to the earth and vanished with their hopes shattered. But one of the spaceships narrowly escaped destruction and crash-landed on a small island which had miraculously survived the devastation. The crew members of the spaceship settled there, as if they were seeds sown on the island. After years, a boy was born. He was a new life in the desert, a ray of light in the darkness of the annihilated earth...
To end off the list, a highly influential but not necessarily highly rated show (during it’s airtime) amongst Japanese audiences in the late 70′s and early 80′s, Future Boy Conan. Though not made by Ghibli, it’s straight out of director Hayao Miyazaki’s animation sweat shop and knowing Miyazaki’s history of overworking his staff, it’s immediately understood that the artists and animators on board for this show were grinded to a pulp making this family friendly post-apocalyptic adventure beast of a story where the themes and story elements can easily be discovered in Miyazaki’s later works. If you know me well you’d know that I don’t like Miyazaki as a person but I admit he’s pretty good when it comes to putting out good anime. There’s a lot to talk about for this show because of how meaty and how much work and progression gets done each episode (each episode is 30 minutes). Out of the entire list of shows that were recommended to me, Conan has the most intensive amount of animation work done with nuanced and weighty animation from the way characters move, to the way character’s collide and interact with objects, and to the way characters traverse their settings. It’s all very visually impressive with a fun story to boot which makes me wish Miyazaki directed more series length shows before solely focusing on movies.
I don’t want to get into every narrative detail about the story because I’d encourage people to stop reading this mini review and go watch the show for themselves but the story is pretty simple and straightforward. Apocalyptic world, one island is nice the other not so nice, boy meets girl, girl meets boy, they really like each other, go to extreme lengths to save the other, some bad guys become good, lots of traveling, got to save super grandpa, you learn more about the world, human consequence and error, main boy is really strong, main girl has telepathy, bad guys want to harness solar power to resurrect world ending weapons from the past, etc. Nothing really extreme and complicated, in fact, it might be too straightforward for its own good. All the major plot points are predictable and expected. Aside from how Conan will get the job done you shouldn’t ever really be surprised how things play out. Like classic Miyazaki, there really isn’t really any narrative edge that hits you out of nowhere to keep things interesting or on your toes. Motives are clear and easy to see. It’s clear that this is a show that can be viewed at a young age while also enjoyed as an adult. And though I wouldn’t classify Future Boy Conan as a romance. The relationship between Conan and Lana is beyond endearing and is cute to witness. Many romance animes of today could learn a thing or two from Conan and Lana.
Personally, I found Captain Dyce while questionably stranger danger at points, stealing the spotlight with his weirdness and comic relief no matter how dire the situation. Aside from Dyce, no one’s character design really stands out and like classic Miyazaki, a grand majority of the characters present within the story are extremely plain and simple looking. You’ll get crowds of people but everyone in the crowd will have the same face and hair which gets a little uncanny to look at. I’d also like to mention that I was surprised at how violent the first half of the story was when it came towards the treatment of Conan and Jimsy. It didn’t shy away from child abuse and making sure Conan and Jimsy got ruffed up by the bad guys and put to work. Future Boy Conan also isn’t the show to watch if you have an intense fear of drowning because for a good portion of the show, they introduce a new terrifying and creative way of drowning almost every other episode either it being crushed under a sinking ship with no air, being lost at sea while hand cuffed arms to legs, somehow hand locked to a submerged anchor, trapped in a rapidly flooding mine, etc.
Finally and I need to stress this, Conan is a freak of nature. That boy may not be the most interesting of protagonists but the herculean level of physical feats he is able to pull off is wild and his insane physical strength though realized by other characters, is never once questioned. No surface too hard to climb, no ledge too narrow to grab onto, no object too heavy, no distance too far to jump or fall. You know they say all men are created equal. But, you at look at Conan and you look at Samoa Joe and you can see that statement is not true! See, normally if you go one-on-one with another wrestler you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But Conan’s a genetic freak, not normal! So you got a twenty five percent at best to beat Conan! And then you add Kurt Angle to the mix? The chances of winning drastically go down. See, the three-way at Sacrifice, you got a thirty three and a third chance of winning. But Conan! He’s got a sixty six and two-thirds chance of winning, cuz Kurt Angle KNOWS he can’t beat him, and he’s not even gonna try. So, Samoa Joe, you take your thirty three and a third chance minus Conan’s twenty five percent chance and you got an eight and a third chance of winning at Sacrifice. But then you take his 75 perchance-chance of winnin’ and then add sixty six and two thirds…percent's, Conan’s got a one hundred forty one and two-thirds chance of winning at Sacrifice! See Samoa Joe? The numbers don’t lie, and they spell disaster for you at Sacrifice.
Thanks for reading ^-^

Just found your blog, and I love it! May i ask for headcannons of Riddle, Vil, Malleus and Idia watching their designated Disney movie with their s/o?(akin Vil, Snow White, Riddle Alice in Wonderland, Malleus, sleeping beauty)
I’m going to assume that they would have the movies in this world since they canonly have The Little Mermaid adaksdjaksdjas
Riddle Rosehearts
Riddle is still getting used to relaxing and having fun, so watching movies is still rather new to him.
He sits rather stiffly on the couch at first, not really sure how he should sit, but he’ll slowly relax once you join him.
On the whole, I think Riddle would actually really enjoy Alice in Wonderland. It’s very colorful and whimsical and there’s something about it that gives him an almost nostalgic feeling.
He’d appreciate Alice as a protagonist, but I do think he’d find her a little annoying with how she thinks and does things at times.
“Who in their right mind just chases after a rabbit into a hole in the ground?” You hear him mutter and you can’t help but smile to yourself.
The Cheshire Cat immediately reminds him of Che’nya.
Riddle is immediately impressed by the Queen of Hearts entrance. She comes on screen and has this air of intimidation and power.
He points out some parts of the movie that reflect real life Heartslabyul rules! Like the rule about painting the roses, the rule about no cats at parties.
I think the part with the court scene he would find a little silly and quite exaggerated, however.
"So, it was all just a dream?" Riddle watched the credits roll with a rather confused look. "That wasn't satisfying at all!" You couldn't help but giggle at that.
"It's explained at the beginning! She wanted a world of her own, so she made one up herself~" Riddle just blinks owlishly at you at that, which just makes you laugh again.
He'll have to go and have some time to himself, probably having a mental crisis over what is real and what isn't.
Vil Schoenheit
Vil loves watching movies, so when you suggest watching a movie from your world, of course he’s all for it.
Knowing him, he’s no doubt seen the movie already, but he’s not opposed to watching it with you.
The Beautiful Queen summoning the spirit of the Dark Mirror scene makes a proud smirk come to Vil's face. He can't help but feel a bit of pride for his dorm watching it.
But immediately after, when Snow White comes on screen, his face drops into a scowl and he rolls his eyes.
Right off the bat, he comments about how annoying Snow White is.
“I just don’t understand why they gave her such a grating voice...” He grumbles, shaking his head. “It’s so irritating.”
Vil would point out how Snow White's dress and makeup, along with the Beautiful Queen's, is a reflection of the fashion from the period when the movie was made. (And if you pointed it out to him first, he'd be VERY pleased and impressed with you~)
"Oh, so THAT'S why they gave the Beautiful Queen pencil thin eyebrows?" You teased and Vil shoots you an unamused look.
"Of course. She's a product of her time, a staple for beauty and fashion from that era."
The dwarves do amuse him when they come on screen. He'd never tell you, but Dopey is his favorite.
He voices his admiration during the Queen's transformation scene.
"The lengths that she was willing to go is truly admirable..." He watches as she dips the apple into the poison. "But even the greats are capable of making mistakes. She should have ensured that Snow White could never be revived from the sleeping death."
He doesn't have much to say towards the ending, but he does look a little put out by Snow White being revived and getting a happily ever after.
"Such is the fate of villains..." He sighs. "Destined to die in the shadows while the heroes get their happy endings."
"Or is this case, getting struck by lightning and falling off a cliff." You remarked, grinning at the deadpan expression he gives you in response.
His rating for the movie is 9/10. The only reason it's not 10/10 is because of Snow White and the ending.
Idia Shroud
(I apologize in advance, Idia is one of the characters I'm still trying to get a handle on writing ;v;)
I feel like Idia and Ortho watched the Hercules movie as children and it was Ortho's favorite movie.
So watching it again with you was something nostalgic for him, even if he remarks on it being a kids movie. (You can argue that some of the anime he watches is also for kids, but that will upset him and he'll go sulk under his covers and you'll never finish the movie.)
"Uwehehehe...what a clumsy idiot." He's got that sharp smile on his face as he watches Hercules swing the column around and basically destroy his entire village.
Honestly, he's not really interested in Hercules' tale and he's not really a fan of musicals. The only parts that interest him are when Hades comes on screen.
The only commentary that he gives is to make fun of Hercules.
"It's not possible for people to get THAT muscular in such a little amount of time..." He mutters as he watches the training montage with a bored expression. "It's not scientifically possible." You shrug in response.
"He's part god, so maybe that's part of it?" Idia just snickers with a sharp smile.
"He looks like a car test dummy in a toga."
Idia admires how confident Hades is and how fast he can negotiate things. I think he secretly wishes he had that confidence too.
How does he feel about Megara? Mmmm, I don't think he's interested in her character either. She's the main hero's girlfriend and a pawn to Hades, that's it.
If Ortho is watching with you guys, he's really the only one that enjoys it besides you. Idia goes right back to what he was doing before you suggested watching the movie as soon as the credits roll.
Malleus Draconia
Of course, Malleus knew that there was a movie made about the Thorn Witch. He and Lilia showed it to Silver and Sebek when they were children. (Lilia had thought it would be good for them to learn the history behind the tale!) So when you bring up watching it with him, of course he wants to. He loves spending time with you and the fact you want to learn a bit about his culture warms his heart.
He does like the aesthetic of this movie. He finds the music and the hand-painted backgrounds to be charming.
He can't say he understands how animation works, but it's nice to look at nonetheless.
Malleus likes the three good fairies. He finds their antics and the way Flora and Merryweather butt heads to be rather amusing.
"You know, I've always wondered what the third gift would have been if the Witch of Thorns hadn't come in when she did," He muses as Maleficent makes her entrance. You hum in thought.
"Some people theorize it would have been eternal happiness." You look over at him with a slight smile. "You know....never needing to feel blue?" That makes him chuckle.
"Eternal happines....Yes, I quite like that idea for a gift."
If you remark on Maleficent being petty for cursing an infant, Malleus is going to pout.
"Well, quite frankly, I understand how she feels. It's rather hurtful not being invited to events." You look over at him and raise an eyebrow.
"Fine! Then curse the people who didn't invite you. Don't curse the infant child who had nothing to do with whether or not she was invited." Malleus just hurumphs and crosses his arms.
"In a roundabout way, the king and queen DID suffer for their actions. Having their baby cursed to die." A slight smirk breaks across his face. "I'm sure they'll think twice next time."
He doesn't say it, but he quite likes Aurora as a character and he loves the sound of her singing. He finds it very enchanting and relaxing to listen to.
Flora and Merryweather fighting over the dress color reminds him a lot of Silver and Sebek. Fauna's baking strongly reminds him of Lilia's cooking.
During the part where Aurora is being hypnotized, you suddenly gasping and clamping your hand on his arm startles Malleus. "OH MY GOD. I JUST REALIZED THAT THE CREEPY NOISE IS ACTUALLY SAYING HER NAME."
You both pause and listen again as the eerie note that played in between the music stings creepily called "Auuuroooraaa~" in a beckoning manner. Malleus blinked in surprise.
"Oh my. That would explain her expression as she walks up the stairs." He mused, putting a finger to his chin. "How clever. I've watched this film plenty of times and I never noticed that."
The part where Maleficent casts the thorns around Stephen's castle and turns into a dragon are Malleus' favorite parts.
"None of the other members of the Great Seven can do what she can do." He says with a prideful smirk. "She is truly supreme in her ranking."
Watching Maleficent back Prince Phillip onto a cliff and trap him with no protection is VERY satisfying for Malleus. But once the fairies bless the Sword of Truth, he pouts again.
"If it weren't for them, he wouldn't have been able to defeat her." He says. "It wasn't a fair fight." You raise an eyebrow at him at that.
"She turned into a huge, fire-breathing dragon. You call THAT fair?" His little pout in response just makes you laugh.
Overall, Malleus enjoys watching the movie with you and he'll gladly watch it with you again whenever you want to.

StarscreamxReader-Sweet Dreams are made of Screams Ch.1
First ever lemon. Please give your input. Reposting from my Ao3.
You haven’t been able to sleep properly for weeks now. And frankly, you’re wondering if you ever will again in your lifetime.
Yet what caused you to have such a problem with something that once came to you so easily? Ok, maybe not easily. No, scratch that. It was never easy. You had to take some sleeping pills every night to even get a few hours in. Still, how did it happen?
Well, the trouble had started back not long ago. In fact, from what you could recall, it hadn’t even been a full month before your ‘problem’ started. See, you were a fairly average individual. You had your quirks, your habits, the little things that make each person an individual. One particular interest you had though was quite specific, and even more, came from a decade long before you were born.
Transformers.
Oh yes, your beginnings were humble when you first started with the franchise, and you looked with wide, awe-filled eyes. Your starting place was where you first discovered it, the one show that will remain in your heart forever. From that, you got into the characters, the story, the lore of what started as a toyline for young boys (though it was clear now that both sexes had a love for it), all of it. And from there, you went on to past and future generations from your starting point, and now, you were a certified Transformers fan! Hell, one of your favorite sites ever is TFWiki.
With this entrance into the fandom, you took to devouring everything that you could: the cartoons and animes, the books, the movies, fanfiction, fanart, fan comics, doujinshi, anything and everything that you could get your hands on, you did. And not long after, you began contributing yourself, drawing, writing, whatever you could to make your stand and have your place in the community. At first, it worked well enough, you weren’t exactly prolific, yet you were doing well enough. You managed to get a few requests for certain things to be drawn/written, believe it or not, but still, you weren’t overly big.
And then came your discovery of the Reader genre.
What is the Reader genre? Why, as far as you were concerned, only one of the greatest genres ever to be conceived! Well, to be more accurate, the form of writing wasn’t anything new, remembering the ‘Choose Your Adventure’ books. It seemed said genre now spread everywhere, you being very aware of the numerous games and dating sims that ranged from well done and engaging to outright ridiculous and stupid (but those were fun in their unique way). And since you didn’t have any knowledge or time to do that, you settled for writing them yourself. Your first piece was a simple Optimus x Reader with the standard plot and standard outcome, which was a declaration of love and a resulting kiss with the Autobot Leader. You were NOT expecting the overflow of response that it had gotten. You were quite shocked, but at the same time, overjoyed. Soon, you decided to try your luck with another one, this one being of Bumblebee, the scenario being mostly the same, albeit with a bit more cutesy fluff, as in your mind, Bumblebee was always the little guy. This one was just as successful, and you beamed, having finally found your calling.
Since then, you were getting requests left and right for more and more choices, all spanning different universes. From the animated cartoons to the comics, different universes, everything that spanned from the most well-known incarnations to the more obscure. It was through these that you managed to get even more into the Transformers multiverse as a whole and even discovered some truly overlooked gems. You opened yourself up to the people and declared that you would write whatever they requested, but you had some taboos that you wouldn’t touch. But any scenario, character, and universe, all of that was fair game.
You had originally begun working on more mundane, typical stories with expected outcomes (but sweet ones nonetheless), yet over time, the requests and your imagination began getting more creative and crazy. Soon, you were delving into several different areas that you had never touched. Elves, goblins, mermaids, vampires, forbidden love, love triangles, all of these were laid at your feet. And while it took a bit to find your rhythm, all of this having come on you so fast, you eventually got it and soon, you had a wide collection of X Reader stories, ranging from G1 to Prime and IDW’s run.
You mainly did Autobots, for you had to admit that writing for them, while they were still complex characters, came somewhat easier for you. True, each of them had their faults and quirks (both from canon and headcanons people had come up with), yet they were still the good guys, and even those with more questionable morality still came out as heroes in the end. But then one day came where you were asked to write about a Decepticon. This threw you for a loop, as, while the thought had intrigued you, you had been writing for good guys for some time, so a total shift in direction was somewhat off-putting and scary. Possibilities of it being too saccharine or sweet, or getting the characters wrong or out of character scared you a bit, yet still, you wanted to test the waters and see if you could do it. And if you could, this would open up so much more for you.
And judging from the input, you had just struck gold yet again.
Soon, not only were you flooded with requests for Autobots, but now their foes were also available, and, as you found out, people had just as much an attraction for the darkness as they did for the light. Again, the same scenarios were implemented, yet now, they had something of a darker edge to them, which allowed you to explore some subjects you couldn’t touch with the Autobots without toning it back somewhat. In a way, the Decepticons provided you with more freedom. Ironic, seeing as Megatron’s motto was “Peace through Tyranny.”
That said, you went through the list of available characters throughout the generations, and so far, those had been garnering quite a following as well, your Autobot and Decepticon stories neck and neck in popularity. Everything seemed to be going well for you.
Then that one question came.
‘Hey, where’s Starscream?’
Then another.
‘Could you write one about Starscream?’’
Then another.
‘Hey, hate to bother you, yet I think that Starscream could use some love here.’
More and more questions and requests for the particular Decepticon filled your messages, and frankly, you were at a loss on what to do. Truth be told, you and Starscream had something of a complicated history. When you had gotten into Transformers, you had heard of the character, yet at first, you never saw why he had gained such a large fanbase. True, he wasn’t a bad character, yet he wasn’t your favorite. But over time, as you wrote more and more for the Decepticons, as well as read X Reader stories from other people, you slowly began to, as one would say, gain an interest in the winged robot. And soon, you found yourself enamored by the smug jerk as well.
But this only made you reluctant to write for him.
True, when you started writing for the Decepticons, you were allowed to experiment with some more intimate and extreme situations, yet with Starscream...it was different. It was hard to explain, yet whenever you got a request to write for him, your brain seemed to seize up. Thoughts came to your head that you had tried to banish, thoughts that came every time you saw the Seeker’s name. You had no idea what was going on or why this was so difficult, yet it seemed the Silver Snake had taken to making your fingers not touch the keyboard.
You had no idea at all. Or at least, that’s what you told yourself.
And since you had gotten the slew of requests, your sleep problems began. The moment you shut your eyes, the scenario began all over again.
You needed no introduction to where you were or what you were seeing, it all quite familiar to you now. Around you were towering walls of a silvery mauve color, the only available light from above sparse and leaving several areas coated in darkness. This place was all too familiar, for you had seen it many times in your watching and reading of Transformers.
You were in Decepticon headquarters.
Your dreams had been filled with the base of the enemy faction of the Autobots, and at first, it had shocked you as to why you were here at all. But over time, night after night, you came here, and soon, you grew accustomed to the sight of it. You took on the form of your Transformers persona/OC or remained in your regular, human form, whatever pleased you as if you had some control over this environment. Yet as you grew more familiar (you were never sure if you’d be comfortable), you began to explore the place, finding that, to your surprise, there was no one here. No signs of any sort of life aboard the ship, and while it took a good while, you traveled everywhere you could think of, and still, nothing. No Megatron, no other Decepticons, no one but you had been aboard.
At least, that was what you believed when you first had this dream. Then, you heard it. The voice. His voice.
“Oooh, I’m the Boogie Man,”
Singing, serenading, just loud enough for you to hear, yet low enough for you to know it was far away. It always started this way.
“The terrible, horrible Boogie Man,”
Your ears/audio receptors registered the voice as it echoed throughout the ship. When the dreams had begun, you knew immediately who was singing, and then you were more surprised at how it sounded. Sure, it had its infamous high pitch, yet it wasn’t bad to listen to. Daresay, it was rather enjoyable in its own way.
“I come in the middle of the night and frighten bad little girls like you.”
The first few times you had this dream, it would almost always startle you, yet it led you to look down the other balls and corridors of the ship. The results were always the same though: no one was aboard. No one but you...and him.
“Beware, better have a care,”
The song changed each and every time you entered the dream, tonight being a track you heard on a video game you played not too long ago (Bioshock 2 you believed). Yet the songs always had the same effect on you.
“I’m going to follow you everywhere.”
Despite your trepidation, you wanted...needed to follow it.
“I crawl through the ceiling and the wall and call on bad little girls like you.”
Walking, then running, you traversed the winding path before you, taking several left and right turns, having no sense of direction but that voice. A voice that, despite its infamous sound, held power to it, a siren’s song in a way. Ironic, you thought. Still, you followed, for you had reached your limit. You knew what would happen if you didn’t find him.
“I’ll torture you and hunt you,”
And never leave.
I’ve got you where I want you,”
And never let you escape this dream.
“A victim of my dark and dirty plot.”
And he knew it too. He knew he had power over you. And you hated it.
“And at the slightest whim, I’ll tear you limb from limb,”
Or…
“In other words, I’ll put you on the spot.”
Did you?
“Oooh, I’m the Boogie Man,”
You were close. So dangerously close.
“The terrible, horrible Boogie Man.”
Just a turn around the corner.
“I come in the middle of the night and frighten…”
He paused, you stopping in your tracks at what you saw. There he was. Situated behind violet bars of energy in a cell, the Decepticon stood there with his arms folded and looking upon you with satisfied, hungry red eyes.
“...bad little girls like you.”
It was him.
Starscream.
Your favorite incarnation of Starscream, those ruby orbs boring into your own eyes/optics. You stepped back from the cell, eyes/optics wide at what was before you. Sure, if you were to go by dream logic, some part of you always knew that it was ‘him’ that awaited you at the end of this journey, but still, to actually see him, standing there so casually when it looked like he was locked up, it chilled you. As if he had absolutely nothing to worry about.
“My, my, so you finally found me,” he said, his voice perfectly matching the incarnation that stood before you. “Or rather, I found you. Whichever way it goes, it doesn’t matter,” he smirked. “For I already know the outcome.”
You blinked a few times, still trying to see if who was before you had truly been there. “St…” you began nervously. “Starscream?”
The Decepticon chuckled and stepped out of the shadows, allowing you to fully see him. “In the mesh,” he said. “And I see that introductions won’t need to be made either, will they, Y/N?” your eyes/optics went wide. “That’s right, pet, I know everything. This IS your mind after all.”
“Wh-What?” you stammered. “I don’t understand.”
Starscream’s grin only grew wider. “You will soon. You will understand EVERYTHING.”
Just what was he talking about? From the looks of it, he seemed to be enjoying your tension and trepidation, very amused. Your mind went into fan mode, recalling every fact you had known of Starscream and his various incarnations, which then led to you going on the defensive. “You…” albeit, it took you a try or two. “You’re the one that’s been doing this to me. Giving me these...these weird dreams.” the Decepticon didn’t answer, yet it was clear that he already knew that the secret was out (even if it wasn’t much of one). “You’re also the one that’s not letting me have one decent night’s sleep without being trapped here!”
“Or me serenading you?” he added in. “How do you like it? I don’t do it often, yet if I wish, I can stretch out my vocal components if I want.”
Your cheeks grew hot. Damn, this bastard was already making you too wound up, and you had only gotten a few words in! “Well...I’m here now,” you said, trying to sound confident, and, ironically enough, trying to channel Megatron’s dominating aura. “So, what do you want?”
This didn’t phase him in the slightest. Despite him being the one locked up, you were the one who felt like his prisoner. “I think you already know that dear Y/N,” he said. “But to put it simply, I’m feeling left out.”
You were confused. “Left out?” You asked. “Left out of…” you paused. Indeed, you knew well what he was talking about. “My...my reader inserts.”
Starscream nodded. “Quite an extensive library you’ve built up over time.” He told you. “Though your choices could be much better.” he scoffed. “Of course goody-good Prime would be on the list, along with the rest of the Auto-dolts.” Then he grimaced. “Yet there are those that actually want to FRAG Megatron? Ugh! No taste at all!” He then looked back at you. “You’ve written for everyone, from either faction, of every series,” he then pouted. “But none for me. Truly, Y/N, I’m hurt.”
You felt quite awkward. True, while you were known online for your stories, it was your username and persona they were seeing. They weren’t someone that was right around the corner that could walk in and see you writing these things. While you loved doing it, the thought of your family or friends discovering you wrote in this genre was a thought you dared not entertain, as you swore that you’d die from embarrassment. Thus, you were very careful whenever you did it, your room completely locked tight so you could focus without fear of someone barging in. The only times you left during your writing periods were for bathroom breaks and/or to eat/drink something. It was a big secret...and thinking about it now, it was a secret no more to the most infamous backstabber in all of Transformers. You had been found out.
“Well...so what? Are you going to keep haunting me until I do?” you asked. “You can’t do that!”
Starscream didn’t seem phased by this at all. That damned smirk of his both frustrated and made you excited, a combination that left you very unsure. “Can’t I?” he asked.
You didn’t like his tone. “What do you mean?”
“Well, let’s consider for a moment, Y/N,” he said. “You believe that I’m merely a figment of your imagination, yes? A stubborn thought that is lodged in your subconscious. Am I right?” you shifted a bit, knowing well what he was saying would lead to something else. Something that probably would flip everything on its head. “Well...who’s to say that I am?”
“I...I don’t understand.”
“Of course you don’t. But what I say might just jog your memory.” he then went on. “In your last X Reader, you spoke of multiple versions of the characters, such as Prime and...yes, even Megatron,” Starscream scoffed. “And how it would’ve been peculiar if they met. Then, one of your readers linked you to a page on the TFWiki.” Starscream then chuckled. “Quite an array of knowledge, I must say. Especially for a primitive species such as yourselves. Anyway, said page spoke of what is labeled as the Transformers Multiverse, which, if I may say, is an excuse for you all to toy with and shape us into what YOU want. But back on track, you did a small amount of research on that, then went on about your business.”
“...and what does this have to do with why you’re here?”
Starscream smirked. “Then, after some time, you went and read the entries of me from various series and incarnations. To get a better feel for what you were thinking of writing. What you wanted to write. Only, you never did.” You were about to speak again, but the seeker spoke again before you could. “There was one detail from my earliest incarnation that spoke of a ‘ghost’, an immortal spark that couldn’t be snuffed out. One that could travel through space and time.” He drew closer to the bars. “And then discovered a way to travel through dimensions. Wherein, I found out all about how so many humans have seen my reality behind a television screen.”
What was he talking about? What did any of what he said mean? It was then that it all clicked for you. Sparks were essentially the ‘soul’ of a Transformer, which Starscream’s was indestructible. You read that he made an appearance in Beast Wars, and had made cameos elsewhere. What was before you right now...mere feet away…” Are you.. “ you stammered. “Are you really…”
The Decepticon nodded. “Yes. Yes, I am, Y/N.”
You were left speechless. No. No, this...this was impossible. It...it couldn’t be him! It couldn’t be the REAL Starscream! He was a cartoon, no, a toy! A damn toy! A toy from the eighties that were made to be marketable to young boys (and the girls that were secretly into it) among several other toys that were made be marketable to young boys (and again, the girls that were secretly into it)! There was NO way he was in your mind right now! He wasn’t real! He wasn’t real! He wasn’t-
“You step out into the chilled air, wrapping your arms around yourself as you do.” the Decepticon suddenly began. “He’s there to pick you up. He’s there to pick you up. You’re both terrified and exhilarated, eager to start the night, but also to make it fly by just enough so nothing embarrassing would happen between the two of you.” your jaw dropped when you heard him say that. How did he- “Know that you recently read over your very first entry? The one that started it all?” he then ‘rolled’ his eyes. “The one that clearly displayed that you had little taste at first?”
Of course, you did! That was from your very first X Reader story! It told of Optimus Prime and you, a human, in a relationship. Odd start, you knew, especially given that Transformer x Human relations was sort of controversial, yet overall, it wasn’t a bad one. Still, the fact he knew that…” No.” you said aloud. “It can’t be.”
He smiled. “I am.”
You stepped back until you hit a wall. “S-Starscream.” you stuttered. “You’re him. You’re the...the real one.” he was quite satisfied with your reaction, you clearly flustered yet cautious at the same time. The sensation drove you mad. But then you remember, this was just a dream! You were just making up all this stuff! You were relieved by this revelation...yet at the same time, you were...curious. Just where would this go if you continued? “Well...well, what are you doing here? What do you want?”
“Exactly as I said before, I feel left out,” Starscream told you. “And considering my popularity in this universe, I’d think me being here should tell you something.”
You knew what he wanted. “You want me to write about you.” it was obvious. “I-I know. I mean, I’ve been wanting to. Really, I have. But...but I...I just…” you sighed. If you knew Starscream (and you had at least a decent enough faith you did), you knew that this could potentially earn you his anger. Yet, to your surprise, he didn’t try to order you around. Instead, he seemed like he already knew you were going to say that.
“You can’t,” he said for you. “Understand, I’m the one in YOUR mind. Thus, you could say, I know everything about you. A perk of being something that, in this universe, started out as a drawing on a piece of paper.” you were confused, this seemed to humor Starscream even more. “Oh, come now. Surely you know that concept art exists, right?”
All of this was so insane for you, yet it was then that you felt the urge to speak up and say something for yourself for once. “Well, if you’re here from the...well, YOUR universe, what are you doing here in the first place?”
“Why, this is one of the few places I win!” Starscream exclaimed. “Of course, when I first came here, I was quite perplexed about how I and many others were known as products from a company called ‘Hasbro’. But overtime, I discovered your version of the internet, and, well, as you flesh bags say, the rest is history.” he then continued, not giving you a chance to speak. “And bring that I am an idea in this universe, I can go freely as I wish, peering into minds,” his red eyes looked upon you. “Become one’s permanent muse or vice versa.”
God, you felt weird. You felt so confused and conflicted. You wanted to sink into the wall to get away, but you also wanted to know more about this. You had to know more. You needed to know more. “So…?”
“So, I’ve come to you, as you’re truly in need of some inspiration,” Starscream said. “As well as some changes in your thinking.”
“Like what? Worshiping the ground you walk on?” you ask, feeling a little bolder.
“Oh, you already do.” he said. “If you didn’t desire me, I wouldn’t be here.” he grinned at your shocked expression. “That’s right, Y/N, I know what truly holds you back from writing about me. Your fears, your anxieties, your loves and lusts.” you had no words. “You fear that you may get me wrong if you will. That I won’t be in character. Or you fear that you won’t be able to satisfy the wants of your readers, as I AM so highly anticipated. Or…” he leaned closer to the bars, the only barrier separating you two. “You fear exploring those more intimate pleasures with me. You’re intimidated and unsure. After all, writing for Autobots is easy, yet us Decepticons are more difficult. But it HAS awakened things in you that you wish to explore on either side. Things that you are dying to let out.”
You had no words, he was completely right. Damn him! The smug bastard knew he had you in the palm of his hand...and yet also probably knew that’s what made you so hot and bothered right now! “So...what? Are you here to force me to write those things with you in them?”
“Dear Y/N, I can’t technically make you do anything,” Starscream told you. “Oh yes, I can stay and torment you night after night until either I pass onto another universe or I grow bored of you, but my reason being here is for both our benefits.”
“How?”
“It’s quite simple,” he said. “We shall go through those scenarios in your head.” his ruby red optics bore into yours/your eyes. “Together.” he then reached out from in between the bars and traced a digit around your jawline. “Believe it or not, I want to help you, Y/N.” his voice was smooth and sultry, something you never expected from a voice like his. “But only you can allow me to do so.” he then stepped back from the bars. “This prison of mine is something you’ve constructed from your fears and insecurities. Allow yourself to embrace what you fear…” he then extended his hand again, yet stepped back as well, sinking into the darkness. “Only then, will you truly be free.”
You were at a standstill. You knew what he wanted, and, to your horror, you were wanting to give it to him. Deny it all you want, this was something that had been in your mind ever since you got the first request for the Seeker. You approached the bars, trying to get some sign that he was still there. Surely he hadn’t left you, had he? No, he hadn’t. He was still there, you could feel him. Watching, waiting, and perhaps, knowing what you would do before you did.
Yet would you do it? Would you bite into that forbidden fruit?
Some while after pondering this question, you looked at the cell, the energy bars vanishing. Why fight it when you could already taste the sweet tartness of said fruit in the back of your throat?

Lost at Sea
Single Dad Spencer x fem reader
Tumblr media
Summary: This is kind of a little Christmas-adjacent fluff peice where Spencer is a single dad, completely clueless while Christmas shopping for his daughter. Reader sees him struggling and decides to help, completely unaware of where it will lead them. I imagined him sometime after the show ended, kinda with his somewhat longer curly hair and glasses. This story is completely fluff and I make no apologies.
Well, that was about the third loud huff from the man standing down the isle from me. This one was so loud it blew his hair around a bit, making it even messier. I try to focus on the task at hand, finding the perfect gift for my best friend’s little girl.
Diana was the closest thing I had to a daughter of my own. Despite Anne’s protesting, I took every opportunity to spoil her daughter rotten. The adorable and precocious little girl had me absolutely wrapped around her finger. I have to fight the urge to buy everything I thought would put a smile on her face, my favorite sight in the world.
But now, I was repeatedly distracted by the clearly frustrated man standing next to me, eyeing the girls toy section like it was an enigma. I decide to approach him, but he’s still to lost in his thoughts to notice.
I clear my throat while giving him a light tap on the shoulder.
“Can I help you with anything?”
“Oh I didn’t realized you worked here.”
“I don’t.” I smile sweetly at him. “You just look like you’re trying to solve the worlds most challenging puzzle over here.”
He meets my eyes with a sheepish smile, nervously rubbing the back of his neck. I try my best to ignore just how attractive this man is. He’s definitely not available.
“I guess in a way I am. I’m trying to buy a Christmas gift for my daughter. It’s safe to say that I know absolutely nothing about girls. I want it to be absolutely perfect, and I just know whatever I get won’t be half of what she deserves.”
“Well I can help with that. How old is she and what does she like?”
He pushes his glasses up his nose, giving me a moment to ogle just how attractive his hands are.
“Her name is Alice, she’s 5. I know she loves Disney princesses. Ariel is her favorite I think... but even once I narrow it down to that, there is still just so much. Who knew shopping for little girls could be so overwhelming.”
I can’t help but giggle a bit at his helplessness. He starts to laugh along with me.
“I’m Spencer by the way.” I see him hesitate a moment before slowly extending a hand. I look at his extended hand with a slight feeling of guilt, knowing he’ll most likely judge me based on my response.
“Oh I’m sorry I hope you don’t think I’m rude but... I don’t really shake hands. It’s not personal it’s just all the germs. I don’t deal so well with them.”
He lets out a soft chuckle, but I can’t imagine why. Is he actually laughing at me? Seems a bit rude.
“You know I used to be the exact same way. I suppose having a kid has changed me more than I realize sometimes.”
I nod, quietly, knowing I can’t really relate.
“I’m sorry you’re probably really busy. Are you shopping for your daughter too?”
Unsure as to the reason why, I’m suddenly embarrassed to admit that I’m not actually a parent. Just a single loner in their mid-thirties, living vicariously through their best friend and their.
“Oh no, just a friend. I’m more than happy to help you out with Alice. If you want my best ideas though, I’ve got to be honest, a lot of it is online. I can show you the links real quick, I’d you’d like?”
“I feel like this would be easier if we just... Would you like to grab coffee? I know a great place just around the corner. You can show me all your ideas and hopefully we can pick out something for her together.”
Up until this point I didn’t want to make assumptions, but it’s becoming more clear that Spencer is most likely a single dad. I don’t want pry, but I can’t help but wonder what happened to her mom.
I try to hide my excitement at his offer.
“You had me at coffee. And I almost forgot, I’m Y/N!”
————————————————
Three hours and several cups of coffee later, I knew a small part of the life story belonging to Spencer Reid. He was an FBI agent, part of a team who hunts down serial killers. A profiler. Or former profiler? He used to work in the field, until he had to raise his daughter alone. He had been fallen hard and fast for someone who left him as soon as another opportunity, or person rather, had presented themselves. They left him a single dad, all alone with his 2 year old daughter, Alice.
Being a single parent, he knew he couldn’t continue a job that put him in harms way on a regular basis. He never had a problem putting his life on the line for others, but Alice had become his number one priority, without question. Switching to a desk job had allowed him to continue as a consult for the team while also teaching at the University.
As I looked over his attire, I couldn’t help but notice that he didn’t quite give off professor vibes at first glance. His cozy maroon sweater and glasses, perhaps. But his curly mop of disheveled hair and goofy grin made him look more like a cuddly muppet character. The more I listen to him talk the more I notice his intelligence. I should have known, given his professions. It didn’t take long to realize he was well out of my league, but he was kind enough to give me the time of day for whatever reason.
I keep drowining in his eyes or getting pulled in by the movement of his hands as he speaks. Listening to his voice is like gently floating down like a river. I don’t even notice when he’s stopped talking.
“What about you?”
“Hmm?” I pull myself out of my daze, trying not to look as enchanted by him as I feel.
“Oh uhh, nothing to tell really.” I shrug, picking up my coffe, hoping he’ll change the subject while I sip on my caramel latte.
“I find that hard to believe. What do you do?”
“I just run a small cafe in town.”
I feel as though hearing about my life is about as interesting as watching water boil, but Spencer could have fooled me. He looks genuinely invested as I tell him about how I earned my bachelors and masters in business management, eventually opening up The Cottage. I didn’t have any experience in the food industry, but my friend Nicole had immediately been on board with the idea of coming on as my cook.
“It sounds wonderful. I’ll definitely have to stop by sometime.” He smiles at me before sipping on the last of his second cup of coffee.
“You’re welcome to bring Alice, only if you want to. And Nicole makes a killer risotto!”
“Of course! ...Oh! I knew we were forgetting something. Alice!”
“The entire reason you asked me here, just a minor detail.” I can’t help but snicker at our absent mindedness, how easy it was to be completely swept away in the tide that was Spencer Reid.
His face fades a bit, though I’m not sure why. He simply nods, folding his hands in his lap.
“Sorry if this is weird but umm... can I see a picture of her? It’s just, well, it might help me to get a better idea. You don’t have to, if it makes you uncomfortable.”
“Oh yeah!”He pulls out his wallet, unfolding a long strand of small photos, most of just his daughter, a few featuring him as well.
She was beautiful, brown eyed girl with soft, brown locks. She clearly had her fathers curly hair and soft, doe eyes. If it wasn’t obvious from the way he spoke about her, the pictures made it incredibly apparent that this girl was his whole world. Pure joy radiated from the photo of the two of them. I look up to to see the exact same look on his face, with a smile so big that his eyes crinkle.
That is the moment I knew he had me. I would follow this man anywhere, this adorable dad I had met on the toy isle only hours ago. The photos made it evident that she was just as crazy about him. It was almost too adorable for my heart to handle.
I take a deep breath before meeting his gaze, which is much closer now as we lean in over the table to look at the pictures.
“She’s beautiful.”
He looks down at the photos again with glassy eyes. “I know.”
He clears his throat and scoots back into his seat.
“So what did you have in mind?”
“Well, I have seen this online story that makes really pretty hand-made dresses that mimic the ones of each Disney Princess. Maybe a couple of her favorites? They also make knit blankets that look like mermaid tales. Or maybe a stuffed animal of one of her favorite characters? What little kid doesn’t like stuffed animals, right?”
Spencer nods along, absorbing all the suggestions I throw his way. After awhile, I help him settle on ordering a few we both like.
“I can’t wait to give these to her! She always loves Christmas morning. We open presents together and eat the cookies we made the night before while binging as many Christmas movies as possible.”
There was that smile again, the one he got when he talked about her. I wonder if she knows how lucky she is to have a dad that cares so much.
I can’t help but smile as well at the thought, which he quickly interrupted with “So what are your Christmas plans?”
I feel myself turning slightly red at the embarrassment of having to admit that I have none. Nothing much that is.
I shrug, hoping he won’t ask any more about it.
“Do you get to see your family?”
And there it was. The question I was desperately hoping to avoid. I know my inability to meet his gaze and consistent pulling at my fingers would be a dead give away of my uncertainty about speaking on the subject. I search for the best way to answer without seeming like I’m overcome with self pity. To be fair, I wasn’t. I didn’t mind spending the holidays alone. Not anymore. I had grown comfortable with the silence and comfort that comes from living alone.
The soft crackling of the fire, a fuzzy blanket, and a warm cup of hot chocolate had become my closest companions of each winter season. I spent many evenings curled up by the window, watching the snow dust the city as soft music flowed through my drafty, top floor apartment. Sometimes I’d dance and twirl around in my pajamas and socks, slipping and sliding on the wood floors. So yes, it was safe to say I truly enjoyed the time I spent getting to know myself.
“I uh, they’re not really around anymore. I was adopted by my parents when I was still a baby. They didn’t have any family but each other and then, well, me. I lost them to a car crash a few years back.”
I can tell he’s listening, but the one thing I always expect to see isn’t there. Pity. Instead I see kindness and understanding, and my heart welcomes it fully.
“Nicole is on vacation with her family for the holidays so it’s just me. I’m pretty used to it though, I make my own fun.” I give him smile to reinforce my point.
His eyes glaze over and I can tell I’ve lost him to a deep thought, as I see the gears turning in his head. He opens his mouth to speak before closing it again, and finally spouting out: “Come have dinner with us. On Christmas Eve.”
I had half expected a pity invite. A “why don’t you”. A “would you like to”. But Spencer hadn’t asked me. He had told me, in a way that left no room for arguing. I could tell he wasn’t going to budge on the matter. Whether it was the insistent but kind tone or the seriousness in his eyes, I don’t know. But I knew there was no use in fighting it. Not just the invitation, but the feelings quickly flooding my heart. Spencer Reid was like a fast approaching storm, but I didn’t want to outrun the rain. I wanted to dance in it, drenched in the downpour.
And that’s exactly what I did. As soon as I saw the look on his face when I said yes, it crashed over me like a wave, leaving me breathless and lost in the sea of my emotions.

The complete list of films featured in 2021′s “31 Days of Oscar” marathon
What follows is the exhaustive list of all 403 short- and feature-length films featured on this blog over the last thirty-one days for the 31 Days of Oscar marathon. This number is up from last year’s count of 327 and is the second-highest number of films I have ever featured in this marathon (behind the 410 films from 2016). Despite the number, this remains only a fraction of the nearly 5,000 films that have been nominated for Academy Awards. This year’s marathon was harder to plan than usual due to the fact it was presented in alphabetical order - with the exception of any write-ups I did.
BREAKDOWN BY DECADE 1927-1929: 7 1930s: 44 1940s: 63 1950s: 63 1960s: 46 1970s: 25 1980s: 29 1990s: 28 2000s: 25 2010s: 43 2020s: 30
Year with most representation (2020 excluded): 1940 (ten films) Median year: 1964
