Why I think blackwashing is becoming a much more dangerous threat these days:
First of all I am disappointed to see many people defend blackwashing and even worse SUPPORT it, it is becoming quite a lot especially in Disney side (Walt Disney would be rolling in his grave if he saw what they had done to Disney) and really if they wanted to put ACTUAL diversity they would’ve created new characters but they just lazily replace white characters with black versions of them, same name and same story just the character is completely different. Recently for pjo tv show Leah Jeffries was cast for Annabeth Chase an originally white blonde grey eyed Californian girl and no hate to the actor but she has NOTHING to do with Annabeth. She has zero resembles. Worse the so called creator of Percy Jackson series Rick Riordan defends the casting and continues to pursued the fans to like it. He even called many fans “racist” for disliking the inaccurate casting and stating their opinion. I was so shocked about him being so rude towards people who are just disappointed and heartbroken. Many people suspect he did this due to the “woke era” trend that Disney currently, he wants people to see him as someone who adds “diversity” in his works and thinks he is doing the right thing while he’s the racist in this situation for changing Annabeth’s race. Not to mention Annabeth being blonde has a huge role in books. Annabeth is a role model to blonde girls and to show them they are not just some “dumb” blonde. To prove blonde girls are smart and intelligent and to break the stereotypes. He just want approval and obviously more money. Same goes for the new little mermaid live-action Disney will be doing, they casted a poc actress that obviously has nothing to do with original Ariel who had fierce red hair, fair skin and blue eyes. I also recently heard tinkerbell is blackwashed in new Peter Pan remake which is weird to do another Peter Pan when we already had a live-action movie in 2003. Many fans were extremely disappointed with the casting tinkerbell having nothing to do with the original one. It is also highly suspicious that they blackwash either blonde or red-headed characters… we need to say stop to this situation and try our best to boycott it!! For the sake of Walt Disney’s legacy and to stop Disney from ruining our childhood movies.
Here is comparison of them. Down here there is official Art of Annabeth Chase, it’s on Percy Jackson site too. She as you can see below has blonde hair, fair skin and grey eyes and also I want to point out her small nose, thin lips and facial structure while the image next to her is the actress but she has has black braided hair, dark brown eyes and she is black. Her nose is also compared to Annabeth bigger and lips are also bigger as well, hee facile structure doesn’t fit too. She is clearly the OPPOSITE of her. Not to mention Annabeth’s race isn’t african american, she is Californian white girl.
Tumblr media
Here down below is original Ariel and the actress. As you can see Original Ariel and fierce Red hair and bluebell eyes, fair skin. Her facile structure is different as well. Not to mention she is Danish while the actress is poc, has dark brown eyes and has brown braided her. Nothing to do with Ariel. Ariel in the cartoon is also blackwashed for the live-action movie. It is so sad to see a character loved by many to have such an inaccurate casting for the live-action. There aren’t even a lot red-headed princess in fact only Ariel and Merida has fierce red hair. Red headed people get discriminated bc of their hair color and disney isn’t helping them even a bit by this action. Ariel is Danish, let’s not erase her race!!
Tumblr media
Lastly we have tinkerbell. There might be more blackwashed characters or course in fact there are probably many but these are just the ones I saw. Tinkerbell is blonde, blue eyed and fair skinned while the actress is poc, black hair (with braids again?) and dark brown eyes. Disney is clearly using the card “oh but fairies don’t have race🥺” here and the supporters are using the same excuse, they also use that for Ariel who clearly has a race. The fact is if you are doing a live action you need to cast the CLOSEST looking actress to play the character. Some random actress just because they did the lines good can’t play a characters irl form.

Series
Here's a list of series/franchises I desperately need to re-watch or start watching. Feel free to take inspo!
Star Wars (my childhood fr, I'm an Anakin defender)
Transformers, the movies and the original series (BORN TO BE A DECEPTICON, FORCED TO BE AN AUTOBOT also someone please give my boy Starscream a break)
The Tinkerbell movies (SILVERMIST >>)
Literally anything Dylan O' Brien is in (I've been on a DOB binge and it's starting to get concerning)
My Babysitter's A Vampire, the movie and the show (I have a type and it's dorks. Ask my partners, they'll tell you)
She-Ra and The Princesses of Power (my girlfriend has been begging me to watch this and I promised I would so Lili if you see this, I'm keeping my promise)
The Frozen movies (BORN FROM COLD AND WINTER AIR AND MOUNTAIN RAIN COMBINING-)
Julie And The Phantoms (hopelessly praying for a second season that we know damn well we aren't getting)
Pretty Little Liars (I started it but I didn't finish it)
The Eras Tour (I NEED TO GET MY DISNEY+ BACK)
Teen Wolf: The Movie (I've avoided it because of all of the hate I've seen of people saying it completely screws with the OG canon and now I don't know if I should watch it)
Schmigadoon (I'd re-watch it with my friend just to traumatize her with Aaron Tveit's pants, she's absolutely terrified of how high rise they are on him)
To All The Boys I've Loved Before Trilogy (Jordan Fisher.)
The entire TVDU (I'm never getting over Enzo's death)
Back To The Future Trilogy (MARTY MCFLY IS JUST THAT GUY also thank you Broadway gods for casting Casey Likes in the musical)
Riverdale (my guilty pleasure and canonically one of the few shows I actually see inputting a polycule and not using it to mock polyamorous people or make the butt of the joke. Obviously not the best representation but it's Riverdale so...)
Ghostbusters 1, 2, Afterlife, and Frozen Empire (can you tell I was raised with 80's/90's movies?)
This is Luna, logging off!

Do you happen to know the origin of the fantasy trope in which a deity's power directly corresponds to the number of their believers / the strength of their believers' faith?
I only know it from places like Discworld and DnD that I'm fairly confident are referencing some earlier source, but outside of Tinkerbell in Peter Pan, I can't think of of any specific work it might've come from, 20th-c fantasy really not being my wheelhouse.
Thank you!
That's an interesting question. In terms of immediate sources, I suspect, but cannot prove, that the trope's early appearances in both Dungeons & Dragons and Discworld are most immediately influenced by the oeuvre of Harlan Ellison – his best-known work on the topic, the short story collection Deathbird Stories, was published in 1975, which places it very slightly into the post-D&D era, though most of the stories it contains were published individually earlier – but Ellison certainly isn't the trope's originator. L Sprague de Camp and Fritz Leiber also play with the idea in various forms, as does Roger Zelazny, though only Zelazny's earliest work is properly pre-D&D.
Hm. Off the top of my head, the earliest piece of fantasy fiction I can think of that makes substantial use of the trope in its recognisably modern form is A E van Vogt's The Book of Ptath; it was first serialised in 1943, though no collected edition was published until 1947. I'm confident that someone who's more versed in early 20th Century speculative fiction than I am could push it back even earlier, though. Maybe one of this blog's better-read followers will chime in!
(Non-experts are welcome to offer examples as well, of course, but please double-check the publication date and make sure the work you have in mind was actually published prior to 1974.)

Favorite Fairies Tournament
It is said a fairy is born with a baby's first laugh. Disney had brought many laughs and fairies into this world, and now it is time to find our favorite.
Tumblr media
There are many fairies, pixies, and other fae across the Disney canon to submit below. From the classic Golden Age to the Modern Era, from hand drawn to computer generated to living humans. If they are on screen for a quick show of magic or to perpetually guide (read: meddle with) the protagonists, it does not matter. We accept submissions for both solo acts (the Blue Fairy) and clearly indivisible teams (Flora, Fauna, & Merryweather).
This is a mini-tournament, so we plan to have an official bracket of 16, and no one is guaranteed a spot (not even Tink) so please submit. You are allowed to submit as many different fairies as you wish so long as they have their own forms. And please don't bombard us with the same character. The rounds themselves will be 24 hours and each has a day between. Propaganda and a picture are not required, but are highly encouraged.
We also need to say that because there are so many characters from the Disney Fairies, these characters will be maxed out at half the bracket and could face harder criteria to get in depending on the overall submissions.
We reserve the ability to change these rules (we will inform you about them) as we see necessary.
credits: pictured are Tinkerbell from the 1953 movie, Nova from "Once Upon A Time," Dewdrop from "Onward," Lily from "Disney Fairies" books, Silvermist from "Disney Fairies" series, sugar plum fairies from "Fantasia," Puck from "Gargoyles," the Tooth fairy from "The Santa Clause 2," and the Blue Fairy from the 1940 film. Our first sentence is referencing peter pan.

The Disney Fairy universe gets insanely dark when you combine the books and the movies together.
The Disney Fairy wiki states that the Home Tree used to produce pixie dust before it was destroyed by a fire that consumed Neverland. (Most likely started by the dragon Kyto but I’m too lazy to verify) The only reason that fairies can still fly is because Neverland transferred its magic from the tree and into an ordinary dove and her egg. This became Mother Dove.
There are four seasonal realms in Pixie Hollow. In the books, only spring and summer exist. It would make sense for the cooler seasons to be completely eradicated by dragon fire.
The Disney Fairies movies ended before Tinkerbell met Peter Pan. My theory is that the fire hit shortly after the events of the final movie, (Neverbeast) and she fled after watching many, many fairies (including her friends and sister) die. This drove her to the outskirts of Neverland where she found Peter and the Lost Boys.
There are now fairies on the mainland year round to make sure that the seasons stay consistent. Not sure how this is carried out, because the winter and autumn fairies were killed in the fire.
Oh man, the freaking queen. The things she’s had to live through if you think about it-her kingdom’s been threatened multiple times throughout her lifetime and finally one succeeded in destroying it. She’s literally had to rebuild everything she knew from the ground up. Plus, if you’re going off of SOTW lore, she’s lost the same lover, Lord Milori, TWICE.
And yet, new fairies are still being born, ones who know nothing about Pixie Hollow, only the renamed Fairy Haven. A new era had begun but, if you’ve read the Gail Carson Levine trilogy, the dangers were far from over.
