I've been on a bit ob a Russell Crowe movie binge in the past few weeks and since he is almost sixty now, many of the movies I've watched were consequently older movies. and when I watched them, it struck me again, how much hollywood has changed in the last few decades when it comes to depicting men.
take Gladiator for example from the year 2000. Russell Crowe plays basically an action hero in it. he is a big, muscly dude, who is very strong and uses that strength to defeat his enemies. and this is what he looks like:
Tumblr media
looks like a strong man, right?
in the same year, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine looked like this in the first X-men movie:
Tumblr media
in 2013 the same character played by the same actor looked like this:
Tumblr media
it's a bit much, isn't it? I mean, he looks so skinny.
and if we go even further back: look at what the womanizer character Face from the A-team looked like in the 80s show vs the 2010 movie reboot:
Tumblr media
maybe the difference isn't that big but it really startled me when I watched that movie for the first time. in my mind there was no reason why Face should be particularly muscular since he is the charming one not the one known for being particularly strong.
if we go even further back, look at the charmin womanizer character Hawkeye in M*A*S*H from the 70's.
Tumblr media
I know he's a doctor and there is no reason for him to be ripped but I got the feeling if they did the show now, he would be.
I don't know what my point really is I'm just saying I got a bit nostalgic when watching these men. I cannot be the only one who'd rather see more of this:
Tumblr media
than this:
Tumblr media
also, as a sidenote: Russell Crowe gained a lot of weight for the nice guys and he is a fucking powerhouse in that film, like, when he punches someone, you really feel it because of the weight that is behind it and the shere mass of his body.
Tumblr media
(even if this may look different, he's about to break Ryan Gosling's character's arm. I couldn't find a gif of him punching someone but I swear it looks painfull as hell.)
so, in short: can we get big, heavy action guys back? cause I'm tired of seeing these skinny, despite being muscular dudes who look dehydrated as hell and on steroids.
and can we stop making characters ripped just for the sake of it? cause I'd rather cuddle with a guy looking like Hawkeye than one looking like Face from the new A-team movie.

i don’t think bakugou knows how attractive he is. i think he has a certain level of cockiness about his skills as a hero, (it’s very justified) but when it comes to his looks, he’s got nothing. he can infer that he’s definitely not hideous but he doesn’t think he’s anything special.
he doesn’t wonder why girls don’t come up to him and he chalks it down to looking weird and you’re just like??? wtf, no it’s because you always have that stank and unapproachable face.
when you guys start dating, you’re in awe at the fact that he ever thought he wasn’t hot.
he’s literally 6’4 of pure muscle with wheat blond hair and bright carmine eyes, perfect hip to waist ratio and even his scars make him sexy: the one he has going across his nose makes him look rugged and if you have the pleasure of seeing him naked, the one on his chest is mouth watering - never mind the littering of tattoos that cover the expanse of his arms and legs.
like aforementioned, mouth watering.
katsuki is such a funny guy because he genuinely thought that there was something wrong. meanwhile girls are dying for the chance to even have the attention of the man and when you make him aware of it, he’s just flabbergasted.
“hah? whad’ya mean you’re jealous? girls never look at me.”
“… are you shitting me, katsuki.”
i do believe that katsuki gets very jealous when guys ask for your number and definitely thinks you’re out of his league in the looks department: which is silly because you both get hit on a fair amount - it’s just that bakugou is very emotionally constipated and not very good at reading when girls are flirting with him… which gets annoying because now you’re fighting off touchy hands and heart eyes from other women and he has zero clue as to why you turn your noise up at him and get annoyed.
so when he does put two and two together and you explain that he is a) a very attractive and gorgeous man who happens to be a top, pro hero and b) women and men alike have always wanted him, you’re just not good at seeing it does he turn a bit red at the face and huff.
“i don’ really care if those people find me attractive or hit on me or whatever. i have you and that’s enough for me.”
another thing katsuki doesn’t realise is that he has a way with words and your eyes turn into hearts when he wraps an arm around your waist in an embrace. well, it doesn’t hurt to show him how attractive he is anyway…

This season of Helluva Boss so far has been all about reckoning with the past. Every episode so far except maybe Western Energy has dealt with some aspect of it.
The Circus is an entire backstory episode about how Stolas and Blitzø met and became fixtures in each other's lives as we knew them in the first episode.
Seeing Stars has background concerning Stolas and Blitzø's relationship with their daughters.
Exs and Oohs is all about Moxxie and his past with his family/ex and even how he and Blitzø met.
I don't think there's really anything concerning the past with Western Energy unless we're counting the return of Striker as a presence of the recent past of the show.
Unhappy Campers gives us our first appearance of Barbie Wire, Blitzø's sister. And we see how she wants nothing to do with him and has a lot of anger towards him.
Oops gives us the story of how Fizzorolli and Blitzø broke apart from each other.
Mammons Magnificent Musical Mid season Special gives some backstory on Fizz's relationship with Mammon and fame itself.
A lot of us has speculated that Apology Tour is going to deal with Blitzø's relationship with Verosika.
So I am going to speculate that Full Moon is going to include a flashback or maybe multiple moments with Blitzø and Stolas that we haven't seen before that add more dimension to their relationships. In my mind that means more moments like in Seeing Stars where they'rye interactions are like when they're not having sex. Or maybe we'll see moments from different full moons they've spent together and how their relationship has progressed over that time.
I have been calling this the backstory season in my head for a bit and I just wanted an excuse to talk about that a bit. This has been such a prevalent theme throughout the entire season and it is really fascinating to think about.
Do you think we're gonna get any flashbacks during the full moon episode.

You, a troublemaker, have a chance encounter with Buggy when he and his crew raid the ship you’re on.
You were always the jokester on your ship. The rest of the crew tolerated it, but jokes were your bread and butter. As a pirate, the days were long and the work was hard and you’d be damned if you didn’t keep yourself amused with silly rhymes, one liners, snarky comebacks, absurdisms, whatever you could come up with, really. Usually you were responded to with a roll of the eyes, a suffering sort of smile, even silence, but sometimes you said a real zinger and got the crew to come together in laughter. Those were the best times. But you enjoyed some of the less tolerant reactions too. You found a particular enjoyment in being a menace.
When your ship was taken over by a group of theatrically inclined circus pirates, everyone in your crew was certain they would all be dying in strange, unusual, and possibly theatrical ways. That was what you were prepared for, too. And, sure, it was unfortunate, but at least the lighting was sure to be great and your inevitable demise was sure to be creative. Being a pirate, believe it or not, was often very tedious business unless you were actively in the middle of some mischief. Dying sucked, but at least it would be interesting and keep you occupied.
And your good humor, much to your captured crew’s chagrin, was there to keep you company until the theatrically inclined circus pirates figured out what to do with the lot of you.
When a certain clownish pirate captain made an appearance, sauntering around the deck of your ship as if he owned the place, a member from your crew elbowed you hard in the ribs and warned, “Better not be planning any funny business.”
If your hands weren’t already raised in surrender with the rest of the crew, you would have put them up defensively. But a mischievous smile was playing on your lips as you said, “Who knows what I’m planning?”
“Who said something about my nose?!” Captain Buggy’s voice was so loud that everyone jumped at the exclamation.
Your eyes moved over the fine yet intimidating figure that was the invading clown pirate captain. His outfit was flashy and makeup was unapologetically clownish. He moved with a grace and confidence that belied the outrage he clearly felt over a comment on his nose. You realize that he must have been insecure (and, overall, overcompensating) for something, but what really got your attention was the frown that defied how his makeup stretched into a smile. His makeup begged for him to smile and, aside from whatever insecurity he harbored, he looked like he could take a good joke. It would be a shame if he couldn’t take a good joke, after all, since he was, in fact, a clown.
Everyone averted their eyes when he stared them down, shining blue eyes roving over each member of the crew you belonged to. Everyone, that is, except you. You looked back at him, unwavering, an amused grin on your face.
“What’re you smiling about?” He questioned, taking a few lumbering steps over to you. He was so tall and moved with such unique grace, such intense purpose.
“What? People can’t smile when they see a clown anymore?” You asked back, daring to lower your hands only to be jabbed in the ribs again, this time by a member of Buggy’s crew. Your hands darted back up into a surrender, but you rolled you eyes as you did it. “I thought that was, like, the whole point. And, anyway, you should think about smiling more. A frowny clowny is a little bit of a contradiction, I would think.”
Buggy advanced until he grabbed ahold of your collar and said, head cocked and inches from your face, “Well, Captain Frowny Clowny is a little pissy-wissied because some fuck-twat should have kept their mouth shut instead of talking about something that wasn’t their business. And, come to think of it, I could have sworn that voice came from your direction. Do you know anything about that, princess?”
You could feel his breath on your cheeks, could feel how strong his hand was, and wondered in equal parts what it would be like to be kissed by someone like him and what it would be like to be thrown overboard by someone with such enthusiasm. When you smiled again, his eyes flickered to your lips before darting back to lock gazes with you. He was impatient like a man but as feral as an animal in his intensity.
“I do.”
“Oh, really? Pray, why don’t you share with the class what you know?” If he was an animal, he liked to play with his food before he ate it.
You felt everyone’s eyes on you and you knew that he felt them too: the captive audience for his performance. But he didn’t know that you liked an audience, too.
“All I was saying was—“
“—so it was you who had something to say. Why am I not surprised?—“
“Hush, I’m not done.” Your voice was a little choked from how the collar cut into your throat, but you pushed on anyway, smile as unwavering as the rest of you. “All I was saying was that why are you so upset about your nose when you have so much more to worry about? I mean,” you wheezed out a giggle at how the expression on his face changed, “I mean, you have twice as many eyes as you do noses and you’re acting like your nose is your biggest problem. What’s up with that?”
“What?”
“And don’t even get me started on your ears.”
You and Buggy stared at each other in silence. The whole ship seemed to be holding a collective breath. Your smile settled into a closed mouthed, triumphant smirk, and when he looked at you like he was trying to read another language, you wiggled your eyebrows. Then, just when you thought he was going to throw you overboard after all, a smile broke through the clown’s determinedly fierce looking scowl and you two started to laugh together.
He released his grip on your collar, smoothed down your shirt, and slung an arm over your shoulder. “You’re not half bad, princess.” He started to lead you away from your crew. “You know, I’m feeling generous.” He looked to his crew, “Take the loot, take whatever you want, but they get to live. Go crazy. Let’s give them some stories to take back to port about Captain Buggy and his dastardly crew.”
He waited for the chaos and carnage to start before looking back to you. “Have you ever thought about running away with the circus? Because do I have an offer for you…”

Ever think about the fact that most greek demi-gods probably don't plan anything past high school. I think many of them don't focus much on their grades or academics (besides Athena kids) because of the high fatality rate.
They just expect not to make it to high school graduation. I'm not hating on the Romans when I say this, but I think that's what makes the Greek demigods better fighters. They run in disorganized chaos in the eyes of the Romans, but, as we saw in Manhattan, there is order to it.
The Apollo cabin has the best archers + healers, so they normally stay further back to shoot and run the infirmary, w/ the exception of combat medics. (Obviously, after Manhattan, there isn't much leeway here.)
The Ares Cabin has the best fighters overall. They are the ones that charge ahead and go into battle. Hephaestus cabin is just as capable at fighting and forge their own weapons, not to mention traps and whatever else might be useful.
Aphrodite cabin has charmspeak for demigods and, despite what people may think, are capable of fighting. Hermes cabin has the speed to not only fight but also cover the backs of the other cabins. They're also stealthy and have proven themselves to be able to sabatoge and steal when necessary.
The Athena cabin comes up with the planning but also joins in to fight. I feel they help fight and cover Aphrodite cabin. Demeter cabin uses plants as a line of defense and uses them to attack. Obviously, they also have weapons, but their main way to attack the Romans is through plants.
Basically, while it looks chaotic, because everyone is constantly in motion and moving where needed, everyone knows what to do, like it's instinct, its actually their own way of thinking. They're prepared to die in every battle, prepared to go down like heroes. I honestly just don't think they can focus much on schooling with the thought that the closer you get to adulthood, the higher you get to either freedom or Elysium.

Something I find really interesting is this panel from "Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot" where the Phantom Blot explains why he didn't straight up kill Mickey even though he clearly overpowered him multiple times and could easily do so.
Tumblr media
I think this moment is interesting because it kind of adds a bit of depth to him beyond a generic killer/criminal. Plus it isn't that he is against death in general (as he still puts Mickey into traps with the intention of killing him) but directly being involved where he can see the person dying. What is even more interesting is how people interpret it.
Some people see it as a oddly wimpy moment for the Phantom Blot, with even some just straight up ignoring it.
Some interpret it solely from a Doylist perspective where they understand that the real reason Blot can't kill Mickey is because the story would be over and Disney probably wouldn't be okay with their main character being killed off.
Some take it at straight up face value that he doesn't like to kill, because he doesn't like to see things die and that's it. Just as he said.
And some people even add some element to expand on him as a character such as having some kind of phobia related to blood and gore or even a traumatic experience with death to further expand why he isn't comfortable directly killing someone.
Personally, I like to interpret it as a reflection of a key part of the Phantom Blot's character: His lack of accountability. If there is one thing that is common in many interpretations of the Blot is his refusal to answer for his criminal actions. His first thought when being placed in prison is usually to escape rather than reflect on what he did. And I feel like his aversion to directly killing someone is connected. When he indirectly kills someone in a different location. It is out of sight and out of mind. He can just easily move on to his next criminal action without even a care in the world. But that becomes a bit harder when he is more directly involved.
I like the idea that he constantly tries to separate himself from fault. You even kind of see this in the original comic in how he will sometimes place the blame on Mickey for getting involved instead of him trying to kill him. And while you could say he is just teasing Mickey, you could also see it as him trying to justify his actions. He tries to put up mental barriers to protect himself truly understanding the harm of his actions. And I feel like a part of him knows that if he were to ever directly end a life that it would be a lot harder for him to justify in his mind. He would no longer be able to just ignore it. Any mental barriers he made would crumble.
I also kind of wonder if death also reminds him how vulnerable he actually is. That no matter how skilled and above everyone else he thinks he is. He is not free from the eventuality that is death. That is one thing everyone has in common no matter who you are. His entire criminal career could end before he even achieves the amount of fame and success that he wants. He could be gone from this world and even worse completely forgotten in the sands of time.

Looking at this image, it looks like Mario and Luigi are in a bazaar of some sort in a desert. I REALLY hope they're in Sarasaland and we get to see Princess Daisy.
I've also been thinking about this: if Daisy is going to be in the movie, who would voice her?

WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS SMILE! THIS JOVIAL GRIN THAT PRATICALLY SAYS "I'M HAPPY YOU'RE HERE."
But how can Dong-soo be happy about Do-young just randomly showing up? The same Do-young that beat up his brother, the same man that cut his hand so badly that he had to go to the hospital, the same Do-young that threatened his family! How can he be so glad that he has now suddenly appeared at his door and come to his home unannounced?
Tumblr media
When Do-young called him out of the blue and showed up in his neighbourhood without warning before, Dong-soo wasn't the least bit excited about him being there. And yet with this house call Dong-soo doesn't even stop him from entering, he doesn't even tell him to leave, he asks him with the most delightful smile: "What brings you here?" Has if this man hasn't put him through the most insurmountable pain and suffering, like damn we get it! You love him geesh!🤣
Tumblr media
Then we got this smirk, this failed-to-contain joy at being asked on a dinner date! I mean what else can we call this, Dong-soo is clearly happy about something!😆
Basically what I'm trying to say is that Dong-soo's attitude towards Do-young has changed and from here, I can see him becoming more easier to manipulate. Because now there's no longer resentment in his heart, or fear per se, there's intrigue and also gratitude, especially after Do-young helped him win the trial.
And it's these emotions that will pull him down the rabbit hole, making him indebted to Do-young but also susceptible to his world of crime and immorality.
From this moment on, we will bear witness as Do-young crafts the perfect villain...
