Leona’s not dumb, he’s aware of your career. He knows just how popular you are, but honestly he couldn’t care less how many fans you have or how busy you are, as long as you still make time for him. 

You’ve contemplated asking him to come to some of your concerts but have never actually brought it up because you thought he wouldn’t be too interested. But it turns out all you really need to do is ask. 

You managed to work it up to ask him if he would come support you at one of your concerts. He just looked at you, completely silent before giving you a small nod, and turning on his side to continue with his nap. You’re a little shocked cause you didn’t expect him to actually agree to go.

So when the day of the concert actually comes around, you’re pretty nervous, especially when you’re the main vocals. But Leona doesn’t disappoint. As soon as you step onto the stage with the bright lights and blaring music from the speakers abovehead, you scan the crowd and you see him standing in the front, arms crossed over his chest.

He looks a little irritated because of all the people moshing behind him, but he that signature smirk on his face, almost like he was telling you, “I told you so.”

Rook Hunt

Rook probably discovered you around the same time that he discovered Neige and he’s ecstatic. He’s one of your biggest fans and supporters. 

You two met through your numerous concerts and started talking because of one of backstage interactions with him. 

He's your most avid supporter and definitely attends every concert that you're at cause he loves hearing you so much, this doesn't change even after you guys get together.

It never fails to make you smile whenever you see him in the front row, calling out your name enthusiastically, giggling to yourself. 

When you’re asked during an interview who you value the most in your life, you mention his name because of all the support he’s given you.

Vil Schoenheit

Vil is well aware of the "circle of celebrities" (does this make sense??? idk but just bear with me). He's seen your promotional videos on social media and the streams of loving comments from your loyal fans following shortly after.

Because of your rising popularity, you were asked to fill in for a role, it wasn't a major role, just a small cameo. But Vil just so happened to also be acting in it as well.

The two of you started talking, and soon a friendship blossomed between the two of you. Vil admires your work ethic, and in turn you admire just how devoted to his roles whenever he’s given one. 

Jamil Viper

Jamil first finds out when he sees you practicing one of your dance routines.

He's mesmerized by your movements, watching you from thr shadows but too shy to say anything.

So when you find out that he also likes to dance, you invite him to dance with you. And that's when he finds out about your career as an idol. He's surprised that someone like you would even consider being with him considering his lower status, and with you being as popular as you are, but you assure him that no amount of fame or popularity could ever make you love him less.

Kalim also finds out about your career and takes Jamil to one of your concerts, buying up the most expensive ticket to get as close to the stage as possible.

While he's trying to keep an eye on Jamil, he sees you out of the corner of his eye. You shoot a wink his way and blow a kiss in his direction causing his face to flush and the crowd to go absolutely wild.

well don’t get me wrong, i boycott myself and i’m educating everybody in my family and close friends about it but the thing is with such sensitive topics that are discussed, educating should be respectful and what i saw happening especially on twt is far from being respectful

They Should Have Never Given You the Word “Queerbait”

It’s been 5 years and I’m still thinking about this, so now I am going to vent a bit. I hate when there is a Black female protagonist who is queer coded and seemingly in a slow burn setting, and the viewers flag it as queerbait and disengage.

I feel like I have seen so many shows where people can take a character who is never even suggestively queer and nit pick even the smallest glimmers to validate reading them as such and they will be able to ship and create and support all of the ways this is a queer character and trust the writers to possibly give more. 

But, when there are Black women in these areas, it falls down as soon as they aren’t given overt displays of wlw actions. I said its been 5 years, because I’m specifically thinking about Kiss Me First, but I also want to hit on Crazyhead, while I’m here because I feel like it got paid the same treatment in this regard. And both of those shows had such good writing, and as a Black queer woman WITH mental illness, both of these characters spoke to me and seeing them have potential for love stories for wlw stories was so rewarding, only to see the journey get bashed and the shows get cancelled. 

So. Let me talk a minute. Starting with Kiss Me First.  If you haven’t already watched it, you probably aren’t going to, so I’m not sparing potential “spoilers,” as I’ve said, its been 5 years.

Kiss Me First centers around this dynamic of an orphan, Leila, who recently lost her mom and is getting attached to a woman, Tess, that she met in this computer universe, who she also has befriended irl. Leila and Tess start off with some mystery, as you can’t tell what Tess’ intentions are for this woman, but you see very early on that Leila doesn’t necessarily trust people that are in Tess’ life. When Leila realizes that the person who Tess seems to care about the most is a dangerous and manipulative person, she does everything that she can to protect her.

The criticisms of the show were that people were “queerbaited” with the relationship between them because of the romantic and sexual relationships that these characters had with men and not with each other...

This is what is frustrating to me: So much of this series is realistic, INCLUDING the story arcs where these women are in relationships with men that don’t really serve them best. Real life queer people frequently have relationships with partners that they don’t really belong with before finding the love that they had been seeking. But, the moment it happens in media, especially with a Black woman, it is unbearable for audiences. They gotta see her eating box, or it ain’t real.

And it’s aggravating, because there is this fairy tale happening in which Leila literally is on a quest to save Tess. She knows that this guy is dangerous and her entire goal becomes making sure she rescues Tess from him. He lifts Tess on a pedestal and makes her feel like she is the most important person, but he is actually an abuser and preying upon this group that idolizes him, so Leila spends episodes working to get Tess out of his grasp.

In the end, they aren’t IN a queer relationship, but she has absolutely freed Tess and Tess is helping her to escape being framed by the enemy. They are “friends,” but if you have a queer eye, and are not racist, you’d be able to see that this is and was the entire time a fucking love story between these two women! If anything, they tossed in some dudes for the straights to pay attention. I’m livid every time somebody suggests that Kiss Me First is queerbait. To you, but not my Black, gay, bipolar ass. I loved it. I wanted to see them flourish. I wanted to be given the payoff, yes. But, I loved being able to see a beautiful love story between two fucked up people who were side by side at the end.

This happened in Crazyhead, as well.

Raquel is a target for an apocalypse and do you know how Amy saved her and the world? By telling her she loved her and giving her a kiss that brought her back from the brink of destruction...

Now... I will admit, the writers did a “no homo” type thing at the end... but the homo in me seen the homo in thee, so I wasn’t bothered by that. 

I just think that it is an unfair measurement, to expect everything to be served up for you in order to support representation, and not being able to detect subtext or to envision the potential coding shows a huge amount of privilege. I adore the fact that so much queer content as of late gets spoonfed to you, but I also enjoy a slow burn, and it’s not right that Black queer women rarely get one because you give up if there’s not an automatic tonguing and huge declarations. And in the cases of these two shows, there were very clear expressions of love and several moments of intimacy, but I guess they needed to trib for true love. 

Anyways, I love Kiss Me First and Crazyhead, and I consider them representation FOR ME.

Hmm interesting I mean idk I guess to each his own I personally would never write anything for niki or even feel comfortable thinking of him like that but that’s just me plus I’m only attracted to heeseung so there’s that even the older members I’d never write smut for

As far as smut writing goes for the rest of the members I can say there is an extent that I’m willing to go and I know this is gonna sound hypercritical as a smut writer myself but I’ve seen things that just aren’t my cup of tea and I feel certain things could just be left unsaid especially assumptions about how the members are in real life it’s one thing to write fiction but to actually come up and state that (whatever’s being talked about at the time) is real that’s when I draw the line

Also this may sound dumb but I feel like most smut is just tasteless like there’s just no actual substance to what’s happening it’s just boom bang bam smut end and i feel those writers probably shouldn’t write it but this is all personal and I’m not claiming im a better writer in any way

Anyways to answer your question tho I’m 50/50 I do get why people don’t want the members being sexualized (even I feel that way sometimes when it’s just tacky) and I get that others just realize it’s fiction and entertainment that being said I do feel like there’s an over sexualization sometimes and that’s the 50 that I don’t like again I know that sounds hypocritical cause I write smut but there’s just a type of smut/hard thoughts that just disgust me at times (I hope someone else feels like this and I don’t just sound crazy lol)

So basically I like smut when it’s more vanilla and tame not just some wild fantasy that would 99% never happen (not kink shaming tho this is just my preference)

Oh one more thing it’s hard for me to talk about the whole niki situation cause even tho he’s young the people sexualizing him might also be young too it doesn’t make it any better but the fact is unfortunately this is an app that underage people can access as well as other apps with adult content it does suck cause these people are young and probably don’t really see the immediate problem with it but there is indeed things that need to be implemented to protect minors being exposed to this shit and that’s a whole other problem that doesn’t involve niki or kpop but fact is we live in a fucked up world with fucked up things going on and I guess what I’m trying to say is that atp there really shouldn’t be any surprise should we try to stop it? Yes will it happen? Probably not but unfortunately thats just the way it is same shit happened with other idols too I do appreciate the people who call out underage blogs tho it helps keep things a little safer for the younger folk here so yeah even I have thought about deactivating my blog cause I know I have an influence on my readers and minors might be accessing my blog so sometimes it just makes me wonder if it’d be better to stop writing cause if I could protect just one underage person from being exposed to content like this I’d delete this app in a heart beat it’s fun writing but it’s not fun exposing people to stuff they shouldn’t be seeing and I know the whole talk about it’s the parents responsibility to keep kids off sites like this and writers shouldn’t have to quit because parents aren’t doing their jobs and blah blah blah but if you have that understanding that these kids aren’t being taught properly now is where you step in and take that role to be better than the people who raise kids up like that

MY NEIGHBOR IS A REALTOR PART 2 (human Frieza & Reader)

It was an awkward moment in Starbucks. Not because you were having coffee with a rich realtor but so many people were staring at the two of you as if they were seeing a celebrity out and about in public. It made you wonder if Frieza was some sort of pop idol.

“Are you alright, dear? You haven’t touched your Carmel frappe yet.” Frieza spoke casually sipping on his vanilla iced coffee.

“I’m fine. It’s just the atmosphere here.” You smiled trying to keep your mind off of the many eyes staring at you.

Frieza looks at the people staring at them which in turn causes them to avert their gaze. “I see. Well my family is well known amongst the realtor community and further beyond that. Have you not heard of my father, King Cold or KC as he is mostly referred to as?”

“You mean Cold real estate? A bit but not too much. Sorry I’m not into anything involving realtors.” You said apologetically as you sipped on your frappe.

“How interesting.” Frieza raises an eyebrow. “I’ve never met anyone who didn’t know about my father or his business. But to get to the point of this, I am here because the…..President…..of my company has been concerned over the lack of development in this area.” He shivered at the mention of the president of his company.

You were confused about that but continued to hear Frieza out.

“From what he heard plenty of plans to turn those empty plots of land into a flourishing neighborhood were met with threats of violence and destruction of some construction tools including setting a forklift on fire. It has been going on for years and the President needed someone to go and ensure that there were no interruptions to the construction process and here I am.” Frieza said.

“Yeah that kind of stuff does happen further from where I am. But why are you telling me this and not someone else like the mayor?” You asked.

Frieza sighed before sipping on his iced coffee. “Ever since I had moved here with my son; Kuriza, I have been asking around about the reasoning behind it and I’ve been told that a drug gang rules that part of town. When I pressed further about they just changed the subject and even recommended me to build the new neighborhood elsewhere. Those fools had the gall to tell me that it was a lost cause to build anything there. Besides there’s been too much brown nosing amongst those other realtors who are asking to work with me to build the neighborhood in a more ‘ideal location’.” He air quoted in a sarcastic tone. “I had just gotten home to relax when you dropped off my son at my front door. It was when Kuriza told me about you that I decided to at least talk to someone who might know more about this area and why they fear this gang so much. Plus you were very kind as to take my son home to which I am thankful for and you seem easy to talk to.”

You took another sip of your frappe before speaking. “They sell drugs as well as make them. The police have tried to track them down numerous times but because of the wooded areas they always managed to escape. I’ve never seen them but I know some people who were threatened to keep quiet about it and those kinds of people made good on their threats. One of my coworkers had ignored those threats and reported to the police which led to several arrests of a few gang members and even raided one of the meth labs. But then when he went home to find his house broken into and his dog butchered. A note was left there saying, ‘We’ll get you next time.’ He moved away after that.”

“Damn. They’re not fooling around at all.” Frieza said in awe.

You nodded as you covered the left side of your mouth and whispered. “Plus I heard from a friend of mine in the police force that the gang leader is on the FBI’s most wanted list yet he’s been evading them for years now. He’s wanted not just for drug dealings but also first and second degree murder, rape, and assault.”

“Interesting.” Frieza hummed. “So this drug gang is led by a convict? I’m surprised that this small city is still afloat and here you are talking about it like it’s no big deal. It’s even more so that you’re taking a big risk in telling me this. Aren’t you also afraid of those individuals?”

“Honestly I don’t think they’d be interested in someone who doesn’t poke their noses into their business.” You shrugged. Then suddenly you were pushed out of your seat and landed on your side letting out a loud, ‘Whoa!’

“Good afternoon sir! I’m Margret Campbell of the Redfox real estate. Pardon my intrusion but I have a few proposals that you may be interested in.” A brunette haired woman who looked to be in her 40s had just stolen your seat and was talking to Frieza in an enthusiastic tone.

“Excuse me, ma’am! But I was just sitting there! So could you please find an extra chair to sit in?” You exclaimed loudly standing up.

Margret looked at you as if you were an annoying fly. “I’m talking to a very important person, can’t you see? Now shoo!”

You huffed and looked at Frieza giving him a ‘can you believe this?’ expression.

The purple haired man just sighed as he closed his eyes for a short time.

“As I was saying, there are a few spots to construct a neighborhood here in this city that is far more better than the one you suggested. For example if we were to build it near the mall-“ Margret was continuing but stopped as Frieza spoke.

“Not interested in your proposal, Mrs. Campbell.” Frieza looked at her with disinterest. “I have already made up my mind and I won’t be changing it any time soon.”

“Please reconsider. Plenty of construction plans had been attempted in that specific area but too many complications have arisen and we can’t afford to have any more delays.” Margret said. “Anywhere in this city is better than that place.”

“Are you finished? If so then would you kindly get out of my neighbor’s seat? I was talking to her first before you ungraciously shoved her onto the floor.”

Margret looks at you dumbfounded. “Neighbor? Her?”

Frieza stood up and walks over to Margret with a fake smile. “Yes, her. Now please get out and don’t bother me again.” He then gave her a chilling glare. “Otherwise I would have to report this to the police as harassment and quite possibly assault which is what one would consider seeing what you did to my neighbor just now. You don’t want that on your clean record, do you?”

Margret stuttered and eventually left with a flustered expression on her face.

“Terribly sorry about that, dear. How about we take a drive before anyone else interrupts us?” Frieza suggested.

“Sure.” You nodded following him outside. You bumped into him suddenly. “Sorry! It was-“ Your voice faltered when you noticed that Frieza was standing eerily still. He seemed to be staring at something which prompted you to follow his gaze and that’s when the blood drained from your face.

A trio of rough looking men were looking at the two of you with menacing grins on their faces. In each of their hands was baseball bats. This made you feel really uneasy.

“Can I help you?” Frieza asked curiously.

The men didn’t say anything.

“If you three have nothing to say then I will be on my way.” Frieza walks towards the limo.

One of the men charges at him readying the bat to strike him.

“Look out!” You screamed and the next thing you knew the man charging at Frieza was on the ground in a fetal position holding his stomach while groaning in pain. Standing over the man with a satisfying smirk was Dodoria.

‘I forgot they were with us the whole time.’ You thought remembering that after you took up Frieza’s offer for coffee and getting into the limo just to see Dodoria and Zarbon sitting in there too. You felt unnerved about earlier so you avoided looking at Dodoria before he gave you a small apology. When you had arrived at Starbucks, Zarbon and Dodoria both stayed in the limo and watched you both sitting beside a window to make sure everything was alright. Obviously they noticed the three men trying to attack Frieza and decided to jump in.

“Who’s next?” Dodoria asked while cracking his knuckles.

The two men were hesitant but went after Dodoria. Zarbon took one of them down with a swift kick to the face. The other man became frightened and tried to run but Dodoria tackled him hard to the ground.

“Going somewhere?” Dodoria asked amusingly.

Frieza chuckled as he approached the down man. “Did you really believe that you would get away with this stunt of yours? I don’t. Perhaps you can explain to me what caused you to attack me when I’ve barely done anything to you.”

“You’re better off building your fancy neighborhood somewhere else. If you don’t then you can kiss that swanky ass house of yours goodbye along with that brat of yours.” The man hissed.

Frieza glares and nods sharply to Dodoria who slammed the man’s head hard into the ground again.

“What are you doing?! Shouldn’t you leave the interrogation to the police when they get here?” You exclaimed.

“You saw what they tried to do. Don’t tell me you don’t feel upset about this.” Frieza said coldly turning his gaze to you.

“I am. It’s just that this is something for the police to do.” You retorted.

He sighed as he walks up to you with his piercing red eyes staring hard into yours. “I do not doubt the capabilities of the authorities, however; unlike the police I have no patience for those who get in my way. Of course I will leave the rest to the police but they first need to know that it was a mistake to attack the likes of me. You’re more than welcome to turn away if you get squeamish but just be glad that you’re not in their position.”

You couldn’t help but shudder at that last sentence. At first he seemed like a gentleman of business whom you’ve just chatted with over coffee but now he seems more like a mob boss than a realtor. Something moved behind Frieza and looking behind him it was one of the guys who had been knocked out by Dodoria and he was charging at Frieza with his bat. You pushed Frieza out of the way just in time as the bat came down on your skull causing you to black out.

Frieza landed on the pavement. “What the hell was-“ He was about to go off in a raging rant when he looked to see you collapsed on the ground and standing there in disbelief was one of the men who was holding his bat.

Dodoria body slammed the man into the wall of Starbucks knocking him unconscious. “Are you alright sir?” The pink haired man asked concernly.

“Just call an ambulance right now, Dodoria! She’s bleeding out as we speak!” Frieza hissed in an angry tone before turning to Zarbon. “Check her pulse!”

Zarbon ran over and knelt down over you as he grabs your wrist and presses his fore front fingers down on it. “She’s alive, sir.” He turns you over onto your back just as he started to notice blood coating your hair. “Hopefully it’s just a broken skin.”

One hour later…

You woke up inside a hospital room feeling groggy while your eyes adjusted to the bright lights. Instinctively you tried to sit up.

“The good doctors will have a fit if you move too much.” A familiar voice said.

You looked to your right to see Frieza sitting next to you. “Are you alright?”

“Of course I am, silly girl. But what you did was reckless.” Frieza said sternly. “Even though I appreciate the gesture, you should consider your own sense of self preservation in the near future. You’re just lucky that you have a hard head.”

You touched the bandages that was wrapped around your head. “So it’s not that bad of an injury?”

Frieza shook his head. “No but they’ll be keeping you overnight just in case and I’ve already taken care of your medical bill. Think of it as my way of both a thanks for your action and for the helpful information you’ve provided me.” He then stood up to walk to the door. “I wish you well, Y/n.”

10 minutes later…

Frieza sighed as he looks over a letter that made his brows furrow.

“Sir? Is she-?” Zarbon inquired as he drove the limousine.

“Apparently she is, Zarbon. Though I have no idea what hobby her aunt finds a waste of time. Besides now wouldn’t be the best time to tell our new neighbor about her aunt selling her out to settle her debts. For now we shall focus all efforts on ensuring that this neighborhood is built on this spacious land.”

“What about this meth gang sir? In all honesty I suggest we bring ‘him’ in to clean it up.” Dodoria said.

Frieza stiffened. “No. I’d rather not bring him in unless the situation is dire. And you already know how smug he gets everytime I call him for cleanup. ‘Couldn’t handle this on your own, eh Frieza? Seems only natural that you would ask for me, the perfect soldier, for help.’ Bah! I swear that man could go on and on about his ‘perfection’.” He air quotes irritably.

A phone vibrates in Frieza’s pocket causing him to pull it out. He smiles in satisfaction as he looks at the caller ID. “My dear Captain Ginyu, have you finally made it?” He answers.

“Yes sir! My men and I are at your new office right now.” Ginyu responded.

“Excellent. I will meet with you shortly then.” Frieza hung up and dialed Berriblu. “I’m meeting up with Captain Ginyu and his men for debriefing. Let Kuriza know that I’ll be home past nine o’clock if not later.”

“Of course sir.” Berriblu said.

Kuriza’s whining was heard in the background.

“What was that?” Asked Frieza feeling concerned.

Berriblu giggles. “He’s fine. It’s just that his favorite…..vtuber….just rescheduled their streaming session for a later date. Honestly though I still don’t understand much of it and why he’s so fascinated with it.” Her tone was laced with confusion.

Frieza scoffs humorously. “From what my son has said, vtubers happened to be people who would rather not show their actual face but would instead speak through these virtual avatars while playing video games. Most of the time they would apply some lore to their avatars to make them more interesting.”

“I see. Well I shall make sure that Kuriza goes to bed at a reasonable hour. Take care sir.” Berriblu said as Frieza hung up.

The next day…

You took an Uber home after being released from the hospital. Thankfully it was only a concussion and nothing serious. You sighed while looking at your discord chat that was asking if you were okay after you told them about getting whacked by a baseball bat. Assuring them that you’re fine, you climbed out of the car and thanked the Uber driver when you arrived at your house. You then saw a piece of paper sticking to your front door as you approached it. It read: ‘Watch your back. Snitches get stitches.’ A lump feeling began to form as you read the note and quickly ran into the house.

“How did they know? Did those guys saw me talking to Frieza at the cafe?” You asked shivering in fear.

Suddenly you heard someone knocking on your door which caused you to yelp. You grabbed a broom randomly and braced yourself as you opened the door and swung the broom at the person.

“Get away from my house!!!!” You screamed but the broom stopped mid swing.

“WHOA! WHOA! I’M NOT GONNA HURT YOU MISS!!” Exclaimed the person.

You looked at the man who apparently was six feet tall wearing reddish shades with blue hair. He wore a sports tank top and shorts with some shoes to match. “Are you with the meth gang?”

“Hell no! I just got here! Can you please put down the broom so I can explain myself?!” The man said.

You pulled the broom away from him but still kept it by your side. “Sorry I’m just on edge after finding a note on my door.”

“I know. I just took care of that guy for you.” The man smiled warmly.

“What? You did? Why?” You looked surprised.

“The boss told us about the gang yesterday and I decided to go on a walk to survey the area and as luck would have it one of them put a note on your door and I took him on my ‘walk’. Now you’ve got nothing to worry about.”

“Boss?” You raised an eyebrow curiously.

“You had coffee with him before you got injured?”

“Oh! You work for Frieza? So are you his elite bodyguards?”

“You can call us that.” The man laughed. “I’m Burter by the way.”

“I’m Y/n. It’s nice to meet you.” You smiled.

“I know this is sudden but do you want to join me on my walk?” Burter asked. “You look like you could use one.”

“Sure but aren’t you on duty or something?” You asked.

“I’m always on duty. Besides the boss doesn’t mind a little multi tasking on the job.” Burter said.

Back at Frieza’s house….

“As we speak sir, Burter has neutralized one of the gang members and is keeping the young lady outside while Jeice and Guldo are installing cameras around her house.” Ginyu spoke to Frieza who was fixing himself a fresh cup of coffee.

“Excellent. Be sure to keep an eye out for any of those hooligans that might crawl around near either her house or mine.”

“Yes sir.” Ginyu was about to leave but stopped. “Pardon me sir but what do we do of the other one we have in the basement?”

Frieza chuckled. “It’s only been an hour so he should have had plenty of time to adjust to his new surroundings.”

The man screamed in pain as Dodoria ripped off his third fingernail with a plier.

“Do you still wish to not tell me what I need to know about your leader or your little drug organization?”Frieza asked amusingly.

It had been twenty minutes since he began to interrogate the man who had attempted to put up a warning note on Frieza’s door only to be tackled by Dodoria and Zarbon. So far the man only threw insults and threats to his purple haired captor. However, he would instantly regret it when the first of his fingernails was torn off. Frieza tried again asking him about the gang he was associated with but despite the pain he continued with the same routine. And again once more ripped off his second fingernail.

“E-even if I-I told……you….it….won’t matter…!” The man said in pain. “This fancy house will be….burned to the…..ground………..your people will be shot and stabbed! And your kid will…..”

“Dodoria!” Frieza snapped.

Dodoria immediately ripped off a fourth fingernail causing the man to scream again.

“I have been nothing but nice to you until now. You should know better than to threaten a parent’s child especially when the said parent can make you disappear in an instant.” Frieza said coldly. “Now I will ask you this question one, last time; why are you targeting me?”

The man groaned in pain as he slowly realized that Frieza wasn’t kidding around. “We know that bitch told you about us and the boss is furious. He decided to give you both a warning.”

“And what if we don’t heed that warning?” Frieza asked amusingly.

“You both would wish you had.”

Frieza hummed as he walked up to the man. “Are sure about that? You probably got away with those threats in the past but I’m afraid that it won’t work now. I came here to build a new neighborhood and I won’t be intimidated by thugs like you. Whoever your leader is will come to regret his mistake in attacking me.”

The man huffed. “You’re just a realtor. What could you do that would make anyone scared of you?”

Frieza snapped his fingers.

Ginyu then called Recoome to come in. The red haired man carried a limp body as he tossed it onto the floor.

“Jack?!” The man gasped as his eyes widened in recognition of the body. “What have you done to him?!”

“Not to worry you’ll be joining him when I send your remains back to your ring leader….in boxes.” Frieza laughed evilly.

Peach! I have a couple of questions around brands and BTS.

BTS has stood as the underdog and has stood for things that are important, that most stars don’t really speak about. Why then were they not more conscious about partnering with certain brands? For eg PUMA, The LV group? These brands actively support Israel and its actions on Palestinians.

Secondly, is the group not supposed to promote brands together? I’ve seen that JK and Taehyung are not in the Samsung campaigns and both own/use iPhones. If they can support different brands, does that not speak of individual activity contracts that they have with Hybe?

I’ve talked about this before but it’s possible you’re a newer follower so I’ll repeat it: I’m generally wary of ascribing the role of activists or crusaders for political or social causes to musicians who are neither. This is a view I have of musicians across the board and I’ve said so for Western and Korean artists. I know it’s an unpopular opinion in a world where people increasingly express their political views/affiliations through the brands they patronize, a world that’s become more tribal, but I think the reason this is happening more is due to a misdirection of responsibility borne out of political stagnation/dysfunction. When people feel unable to hold their actual political representatives responsible, they apply pressure where they can and that extends to expecting musicians they spend money on to become more politically aligned with their views and involved.

BTS have expressed personal stances on various topics and also acted as representatives for their country on other issues, but these are actions they’ve fulfilled in a contractual capacity. You’re free to view them as flagbearers for various causes, just don’t be surprised if they don’t live up to your ideal of those causes.

With that out of the way, I don’t know why BigHit isn’t more conscious/careful about the brand deals they get for BTS. On one hand it’s worth pointing out that BTS’s contracts with LV precede this latest escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, are kinda standard across the board (other outspoken artists and idols are linked to LVMH and most groups are involved with them), and all members are literally enlisted. Perhaps the contracts are difficult to break and the members being enlisted complicates the issue. But on the other hand, if they really wanted to break those contracts I’m sure they could. It’s not really an excuse lol. So it’s possible that neither BTS nor BigHit actually cares if a subsidiary they are partnered with is owned by a parent company that supports Israel. Perhaps it’s not even something the company recognizes is a problem or priority. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the biggest geopolitical crisis in modern times, but the reality is that for most people it has no direct impact and so it’s virtually invisible. Much of the world is still going on business as usual and this is the case especially in Korea.

But like I said, it’s not really an excuse and it’s perfectly fine if this is a hard limit for you that impacts the support you give to BTS.

And yeah, given the members have different brand deals it’s fair to assume it’s linked to their individual contracts. BTS promote brands as a group and as individuals. But in both cases, HYBE’s contract with BTS is exclusive, meaning HYBE runs both the individual and group contracts for BTS members. Hope that answered your question.

Okay to generally answer a question (+accusation) I’ve seen in some various tags that people have about fanfic, I’m going to explain it as simply as possible.

People may be wondering where all fics and art is for canon couples that exist (examples: Lumax, Jopper, Anidala as it is in canon, etc). They also may be accusing people of fetishization (sometimes this is absolutely true) over canon.

The answer: because there isn’t a need to be filled by fandom. It does not automatically mean they are simply fetishizing a character (or multiple) or want canon to be changed.

If a couple or friendship has a satisfying and good relationship that people believe is fulfilling to watch or read, then there is no need to expand on it in fandom spaces. Fandom spaces fill voids left by canon, more often than not. They allow people to explore alternate possibilities or even place themselves in to the world. It’s a place to continue where canon left off or fill in what it left out.

Steddie and Ronance outpace Vickie/Robin and Stancy and Jancy and even Byler now for good reason. There is nothing in the text that canonically makes those first two ships real beyond subtext and cast interviews. So people want to see them explored. See what it would mean if Steddie was canon or Ronance was canon or any other number of possibilities.

(Is there a possibility for fetishization in those ships? And/or racism? YES. Most noted by the fact that Steddie is everywhere while Jargyle is… basically empty.)

Destiel was so popular because all that was available was subtext and sometimes painfully self aware context but nothing that made it canon. Until the Spanish version, of course. 🥴

Sometimes fandom work is created to experience a character in every available way. Thats why the tags are (trait)!(character). To look at and write about characters outside of their set “limits” placed on them by canon. Gross! or dark! or deaf! or parent! or whatever character is purposefully different than just character. The tag is to indicate where outside the bounds they lie.

This is NOT uncommon or unusual. Even regular non-fandom people will impose their own views and headcanons on shows and characters (and real people). I’ll come back to link my communication analysis speech about how the Babadook became a queer icon and its impact on the community because I think it’s unbelievably important and I never thought it would be. It uses “Idol Speculation: Queer Identity and a Media-Imposed Lens of Detection” by Jimmy Draper as it’s framework.

To add as a final note, there was an increase in Lumax fics following vol 2 because something happened to Max and people wanted it fixed or explored, they wanted to fill the hole left by canon. There have been some Jopper wedding fics, as we haven’t seen it but they deserve it. Anidala has mainly “what if Anakin didn’t turn?” Or “what if padme survived?” AUs because those are possibilities not available in canon.

Hello! I've recently just found your blog and it's been such a ballast in the storm of this past week. Thank you for that 💜

I need to dump these thoughts somewhere because I basically don’t have anyone I can talk to about this in my Army group. I should disclaim that… I have tried over the years to NOT believe in Taekook, but the past two years has actually made it incredibly hard 😂 And the Dream premiere was when I was like, whoa, okay, maybe this IS something.

So the last week (and actually ever since Gurumi dropped) has been an emotional rollercoaster. I have no idea what to believe, I have to keep checking my biases, I keep thinking, “am I just unwilling to believe this because it’s not what I personally want to see?” And I’ve often returned to “Well, maybe the simplest explanation here is the truest one, and T/J really are dating.”

Except… there is literally nothing about T/J that makes sense. My easiest explanation for everything that went down in Paris is that they’ve been casual on/off for the past year, and neither are just willing to comment or commit. But that doesn’t explain the circumstances around the paps, the way the footage was dropped, the discrepancy with the light/time, the fact that there just happened to be a person walking around in Paris with Tae’s magazine cover… like, SO MUCH.

So here’s where I’m sitting: maybe the easiest explanation IS the truest one, and what have we seen in the past year? We’ve seen several undoubtable instances of Tae and JK being together outside of work, intentionally spending time together, making their affection for each other known. And if we’re looking at long-term protection here, if you ARE Hybe and you know these boys have something special between them and they have to release music and enlist in the next year… wouldn’t it make sense to do what you need to do to protect them?

The gaps for me are these: would Tae actually be willing to do this? Why would Jennie agree to this, even if it DOES lift her profile? Arguably, she doesn’t need any more exposure, she’s one of the most followed Kpop idols around. And where is Jungkook’s place in all of this? What is his role? And at the end of the day, isn’t this all too much trouble for something that can be easily hidden as “two bros just being bros”? (Although arguably a lot of the things they’ve done in the past six months ALONE has really toed the line with this one.)

Anyway. I’m sort of in between with all this, and I’m sorry for the messy ask. But thank you for giving us all a space to process this. 💜💜💜

Yes, that's where I'm at as well. A recent anon mentioned the possibility of Tae's music referencing his own life. I can very much imagine him singing about a relationship where you have to hide and that comes with struggles and distance... suits both situations perfectly.

If it makes him feel more safe, and confident about releasing his music. Than yes, I think he would. By association it would also work as sort of protection for Jk... so I strongly feel this could be the case. He would certainly not be the first.

While Jennie is huge, she is trying to break into new territory; the film industry. That comes with a whole new audience, so something big will certainly help her. It's great promo.

And where is Jungkook’s place in all of this? What is his role?

He doesn't perse need to have a role in this. I think he'll be lingering along the sidelines, being able to spend time with Tae without too much speculation.

Ah, but how much trouble is it really? You will find (if things go the way they have been going) that the actual trouble of cooperating isn't all that much. From what we've seen now, they met up for pictures a few times, they met for a walk once, they wear the same jewelry... that's literally it. Fandom and media take care of the rest. It's really not that much work for a few years of coverage.

so i’ve mentioned that i recently watched magical girl site/mahou shoujo site as research for an essay i’m working on and honestly i went into it expecting to just wholeheartedly hate it but like... it was honestly worse than that, i saw potential and it just... didn’t pan out.

this isn’t edited or properly formatted so i’m going to just be running through things as they show up in my brain so there isn’t really any real “order” here. just things i found disappointing.

major tw for rape, suicide, abuse, self harm, a transphobic slur and bullying

i found nijimi’s character to be one of the most disappointing since it hit kind of personally. i have anger issues related to my anxiety and autism and when i was younger i didn’t know what was wrong and would lash out for no reason, i was never offered solutions or anything, i was just treated like a bad kid and it sucked. that’s why i honestly liked nijimi a lot, yeah she gets insanely angry very quickly but she isn’t treated as evil or fake, she is a really cheerful girl who genuinely wants to make people happy as an idol, she just also has anger issues, which she recognizes and even if it’s too little too late she does understand she needs to work on. most of the time when a bubbly character has anger issues they’re depicted as being super fake and misleading but nijimi isn’t depicted like that and that had me really excited, i felt like how i did when i saw entrapta who was the first positive autistic rep i had ever seen on screen, but it’s just really weighed down by everything surrounding her. sure i felt bad about mikado’s death and i wanted to see nijimi come to peace with it but we saw so little of mikado and nijimi’s relationship that i didn’t care much. her stick being her underwear was gross and so was her implying that she bleeds down there when she uses it. like ew? was that really necessary? idk wouldn’t a hair clip or a bow or a pin have worked just as well? her crush on kaname was whatever, like ew ig. the whole scene where kaname got that guy to stab himself was disgusting though like i already hated him you didn’t need to make him put on a middle school girls underwear thanks!

next character i want to talk about is kosame who... is an offensive caricature! as i mentioned earlier i struggle with anxiety but i also struggle with some other stuff (yay) and i mean it didn’t bother me too much (if anything i laughed a bit when she took pills and then was immediately fine like lmao i wish) but i have concerns about the stereotypes she falls into regarding mentally ill girls in japan. i’m not going to go super into this here but the view on mental illness, especially of mentally ill girls, in japan is different in japan than it is in the west. she just... doesn’t sit right with me. also didn’t like the use of self harm for shock value and cheap jokes. now on to the missed potential :sparkles: i just think it’d be pretty hype to have a magical girl with an actual recognized anxiety disorder, like as someone with two whole anxiety disorders (like jeez calm down bro) it would be really cool to have a character who has anxiety and isn’t treated like a coward for it!! but alas that’s not what happened with kosame she just has a stick that is literally a pink box cutter and she has anxiety except for when it’s inconvenient!

next up is aya our lovely protagonist. umm there were a lot of things that bugged me about her but i did find her overall likeable. the stuff i didn’t like about her was more about the things that happened to her rather than actually about her. i think they should’ve either not included the attempted r*pe scene or they should’ve actually acknowledged it afterwards. like one of the things that made the show watchable at all for me was that they really tone down the edginess after the first few episodes but it still felt weird that they just... never bring up the fact that this guy tried to rape aya and then aya just? becomes friends with the girl who tried to get her raped? like that is a horribly traumatic experience, same with all the other abuse she went through at the hands of sarina and her friends and it’s just not super well acknowledged imo? i think it would’ve been for the best if the attempted rape scene just didn’t happen at all because it wasn’t executed well at all and was really insensitive. i don’t think having a suicidal or extremely unfortunate protagonist necessarily has to be a bad thing in magical girl animes but i feel like it was just played out with aya? like it felt like the writers were like “how can we make this girls life the absolute worst it could possibly be just for funsies” and she tries to commit suicide once at the very beginning and then she suddenly isn’t suicidal because she made one friend. 

i want to briefly talk about kaname. it seemed weird to me that they never went into the fact that the father was abusive to kaname? like i know a lot of kaname’s hatred was fueled by his fathers expectations of him but idk his entire character just felt odd. also that beach scene? gross.

i liked yatsumura, i thought she was cool and i liked her sticks power. i really liked her relationship with aya and honestly that was what kept this anime bearable for me to watch. i don’t have much to say about her but i do like her. it made me laugh a bit how she had this torture dungeon in her house all this time and aya’s just like “yeah. makes sense! sorry you didn’t get a chance to slowly and brutally murder that guy :(” my one complaint is that the guy would’ve died way sooner because something would’ve gotten infected since it didn’t seem like she was keeping things sterile but that’s just kind of me nit picking.

i’m going to talk about kiyoharu, mikari, asahi and sayuki all in one go because uh! they weren’t that notable. i actually forgot asahi existed while writing this section. whoops. so uh kiyoharu, the wiki says she’s trans but the anime treats her like a crossdresser so idk if that’s a manga thing or just a fan interpretation thing but since i didn’t read the manga i’m going to talk about just what i know as an anime watcher. i am sick of the ambiguously trans crossdresser character, especially after watching zombie land saga recently which had a super awesome undeniably trans girl, i’m just sick of it, i’m sick of people calling characters “traps” i’m sick of the “oh my god? she’s actually a HE?” moments. it’s just exhausting. i personally chose to watch the anime reading kiyoharu as a trans girl for the sake of my sanity but that isn’t something the anime confirms so sucks ig. out of the four characters i’m talking about here kiyoharu is the one i liked the most, probably because she’s just the one with the most to do out of all of them? then moving on to mikari. um what the hell was going on here actually? like what was with the old man i’m so confused what the frick that was so uncomfortable to watch. her designs cute though! and i like the flying broom stick :D asahi, as i said forgot she existed, i like characters with lolipops tho! literally nothing else to say. sayuki... same goes for her, she’s just slightly more memorable for slicing up all those hachi clones. i think these could all be fun characters, just with more screen time, as it is though i felt like they drowned each other out.

now i’m going to move on to what i think of the premise yay. while i’m not a fan of the miserable magical girl boom post pmmm (i did like pmmm tho) i don’t think mature magical girl anime has to be bad (as i said i like pmmm) and i don’t think the idea of girls in really unfortunate situations becoming magical girls is a bad one (just without the overplayed exploitation of really serious topics pls!). i was sooooo excited when i first found out about the magic system! one of my very few gripes with the magical girl genre as a whole is that a lot of them have a battle format of “magic beam!... it didn’t work!... well uh... BEAM HARDER!” and i was excited to see how these clearly defined rules would inform battles... you’ll be unsurprised to hear that... that didn’t happen! 99% of battles is the characters shooting at each other once, pausing to talk and then something happens. which was SO BORING! like jeez. anyways the battles sucked no surprise there. i liked most of the stick designs though, especially aya’s gun. i also don’t think the idea of a limited use magic power that feeds on your lifespan has to be a bad thing (look at death note) but it just felt really plot devicey in execution. the amount you could use your stick was really undefined, nijimi is implied to have used hers basically every day since she got her stick to control her fans into cleaning her house and there was never a concern of her dying wheras yatsumura is implied to have been very careful with her stick and she’s constantly on the verge of keeling over and dying. like i think the “we won’t live to adulthood” thing worked for the same reason the shinigami eyes work, we as an audience know that and it’s consistant, wheras with the characters who randomly go comatose it feels like the writers were just like “uh crap, what do we do now?!” finally, tempest was boring. it didn’t feel threatening and i wasn’t interested in learning about it.

All Elijah knows about her is that she was an angel, he also has a best friend who he’s known since the age of 4 named Xane (we’ll come onto him) in a foul attempt to learn more about his parents ,as his father is very secretive, he ends up roping his friends into the worst mess imaginable; they get into the middle of a war between two mafias as a third party that threatens to reveal all their secrets and one of his friends is directly involved with one side and his father the other. He also meets his grim reaper who in an act of mercy gave him three lives because he didn’t want to take someone so young. Elijah has an idol, a famous detective with no name, he aspires to be just like her no

Xane

Just a lil’ ghost boy but not really, he wears a sheet over himself to look more like a ghost despite not being dead(the face on the sheet was drawn on by Elijah), although he does wish he was but not in a suicidal way. He is an orphan he was left on the doorstep of an old abandoned mansion and a married couple of ghosts took him in, the other ghosts weren’t pleased at first but soon grew attached to him. He’s very shy and doesn’t talk and he’s pretty much a wallflower. He does get bullied sometimes. No one has actually ever seen his face apart from the ghosts of course but no one else not even Elijah (he did get a glimpse but was knocked out immediately and forgot what happened). He also has a killer death metal voice. No one knows how he obtained that skill but you can always hear him at band practice.

Anaiah

She is a dog girl she wasn’t originally thought so technically human. She has two older brothers Louis and Vencel and Louis is a bit of a mad scientist and he was testing to see if his dog girl serum was working which it did but he also made it to be permanent. He was making this serum because dog girls are fictional and he’s lost taste for prosthetic tails and ears. One method of obtaining his dream would be crossbreeding werewolves until he got results but that would be very illegal and expensive. She is quite the violent girl and is currently dealing with anger issues she may also be crushing on her friend. She plays the bass guitar and was taught be Vencel, Louis also taught her how to DJ and mix her own songs. She is very punk btw.

She and her family are vampires and are very rich, her older brother is a famous pop idol and so to follow in his footsteps she became a popular influencer. He didn’t seem to pleased about it though. Most people recognise her from her brother which annoys her. When her brother got scouted and found out that dying his hair was in his contract she also dyed her hair the same shade of bright magenta. Her parent apply a lot of pressure on her to be perfect and get good grades but she likes hanging out with Anaiah because than she doesn’t have to be perfect she can do or be whatever she wants and she likes that same as when she’s making a video or on stream. It’s her dream to make as many people snails as her big brother does but she’ll soon learn why her brother doesn’t want her to take this path (he commits suicide). She is the groups lead female singer and she also plays the keyboard

she is the poor victim of a human trafficking incident everything you can imagine she’s probably been forced to do it or had it done to her. I don’t know why I gave her so much trauma. She is a werewolf and her master is a high ranking executive of the mafia and is able to cover up his horrible acts, he is also a sex offender. Lilly is quite young but the miserable life she was forced to lead caused her to mature much faster than the others. I think I may stop here because I gave her way too much trauma so let’s look on the brighter side of things. She is unable to speak and so uses ASL(American sign language) or BSL (British sign language) (the day I learn to draw hands) she quickly bonded with Xane over that fact she also has many dog or wolf like tendencies for example tail wagging. Her tail conveys a lot of emotions even though her face might not. She does make sounds such as whining, barking or howling. In her anthro or wolf form she’s more comfortable and Is more likely to bark. She is also a Siberian wolf and if you can tell from the name she is indeed related to the Siberian husky so she is quite loud also the drama queen. To show affection she’ll lean on you and she licks YET TO BE NAMED!!!! instead of kisses, she does it around his neck and ears the first time she did it he misinterpreted it as a sexual gesture.

Now this, this is a kitsune. You can tell from the number or tails he has he’s been around for more that 200 years. He’s also a major dick for no reason. He is worshipped and has a small shrine dedicated to him although it seems it’s most likely gone to his head. He’s an exorcist and keeps trying to exorcise the ghosts in Xane’s mansion Its the reason no one likes him. One day he was saved by this little girl who took him in and took care of him he did refuse he bit and scratched her but she seemed determined to show the fox affection even after he ran away she still loved him so he had no Choice but to settle down and be her new pet. The little girl is now an old lady and unknown to her a kitsune calls her ‘mama’ when no one’s around. He feels he has a debt to the woman but still hasn’t found a way to repay her even though he’s warded off all the evil spirits that could harm her resulting in her living a long, happy, healthy life but he still feels there’s he hasn’t done.

Alright, I’m gonna address this one more time.

As for my Narcissist sets (Taehyuns and Soobins specifically), I’ve been made aware that my coloring happened to lighten their skin in a way I never intended to. I do not and would NEVER intentionally whitewash any idol as I find it incredibly disgusting.

As a new cc, sometimes you try new styles and color themes and they don’t always turn out the best. I was made aware of that, and addressed it. I appreciated and still do appreciate the constructive criticism as it came from a kind and respectful place.

I have since then been making sure to double check my before and afters of my coloring before finalizing my sets and posting them bc again,, I never ever have set out to purposely lighten skin. I did so by mistake and I do apologize for it. And am making an effort to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

That all being said, why did you delete the ask? Why didn’t you delete the posts or edit them?

I deleted the ask bc it was addressed directly after the ask was sent and was left up long enough that I assumed it was seen. Which- clearly it was seen as I received another ask from the same anon-

I didn’t edit them bc people have already rbed it- fixing it at that point wouldn’t really have solved the issue. On top of that? GIFs take a lot of time and effort to make and I put a lot of effort into every set I make. I don’t want to erase my hard-work and I won’t erase my hard-work, especially considering I saw many others that were way worse than my one was.

That doesn’t make what I did okay even though it wasn’t intentional, but once smth is on the internet, it’s never truly gone. People still saw it and interacted with it.

A Dream of Coffee and K-pop

Sunlight shone through the window, the smell of freshly ground coffee beans wafted through the air, it was truly beautiful. You and your best friend had decided to stop for a drink break and found yourselves here. Honestly, you were thinking about becoming a regular here, the atmosphere has heavenly and the food and drink were delicious. Then you heard camera clicks and squealing. You let out a slight sound of confusion and irritation. Forced out of your state of serenity, you looked back at your friend to see what happened. Their face was red and they seemed to be holding back an almost terrifying grin. It didn't make sense to you, all that happened was that four men and a bunch of other people entered the cafe. "Holy archon of idol groups! It's 4NEMO!" Your friend was now shaking you, making you look even closer at the four men who had just entered. Even on further inspection they only looked like rich people with hair dye, you didn't see anything special. "Who?" You blinked, just annoyed that your peaceful coffee break had been interrupted. "I swear to God, you uncultured swine. That's 4NEMO, the hottest new K-pop group. I sent you a link to their newest album, you know, the one I've been going crazy over because they had a collab with DCKZ and Lumine from ABYSS?" They facepalm at your obliviousness to the literal celebrities that are in the same place as you. "Sorry, I forgot to check it out yesterday, I was studying." You apologize for not at least trying to see what was so good about these K-pop bands that were your best friend's newest obsession. But you did have a life of your own, you were studying to become a surgeon so you never really had much free time. "Hello, there! I was wondering if you two could share some space? seems that there's nowhere else for us to sit in this place." Out of nowhere, a young man with braided hair that faded from dark brown to teal and emerald eyes that almost made you want to trust him, was at your table, asking if he and his three friends could sit with you all. "Oh my lord, 4NEMO is asking to sit with us! Squee! Please say yes, my dear best friend who has brought us both insane luck, please?" Resistance was futile when your best friend was almost begging you to let them sit with you two, trying to do the best puppy dog eyes they could. "Yeah sure, you all can sit with us, just squeeze in." You relented and moved further into the booth to create space. The one with the braids and a guy with mostly white hair that had part of it dyed red sat on your side of the booth while a blonde with golden eyes and a man with an edgy vibe to him sat with your friend. The before almost empty cafe was now bustling with people and you swore you could feel a couple of people glaring at you. You gave a close-eyed smile and a small sigh, this could've been worse. The six of you ended up getting along quickly, talking the day away. Your friend was malfunctioning most of the time from being in the same room as their idols so you tried to calm them down from the shock but it didn't work. You found that the 4NEMO boys were actually quite sweet and easy to talk to, maybe excluding Xiao who wasn't one for small talk, or any talk. All of you exchanged numbers before you had to leave and even gave your super fan best friend some signatures. Kazuha then handed you both VIP tickets and backstage passes for their next concert saying that you could be his plus twos. But only because all the boys were allowed to give out two free tickets to whomever they chose. You all said goodbye and you made a mental note to check out their music once you got to the comfort of your apartment. But as you left, you just couldn't shake the feeling that something was off with your new friends no matter how many times you tried to brush it off. (On the other side.) Kazuha was the one to first notice you. A serene being in the middle of the cafe, face illuminated by the evening light. On your face was a beautiful smile more genuine than anything he had ever seen. You were the only one whose head didn't turn as they

entered, even ignoring the obvious adoring look on the person beside you's face. He confidentially alerted the other members of his group to your presence. All with some variation of curiosity and something that he could only describe as a breath of fresh air on their faces when they completely took you in. "I don't think they even know about our band." Aether supplied, you had a true expression of complete cluelessness even when he heard your friend explaining who they were just loud enough for him to hear. You were much too enticing and adorable, especially for someone who he just saw. "Why does it matter, we're here for public appearances, coffee and desserts, not some random person," Xiao mumbled, loud enough for the rest of them to hear. He didn't understand what was so special about them, just another attractive stranger. Though, part of him did understand why his group mates felt this way. "Who cares, I'm making a move," The lead singer of the group, Venti announced, making his way over to their table after looking around for anything they could use as an excuse. Ah, of course, because of their appearance, the little cafe was now packed. He brought himself and the others up to your table, acting charismatic in hopes you would let them stay. Though the idol group didn't even need an excuse as your best friend would have convinced you either way. Surprisingly, everyone in the group almost immediately warmed up to you, even Xiao. Kazuha was the one to give you his plus two tickets mainly because everyone else had already invited other people but luckily, Kazuha hadn't used his yet. The 4NEMO boys were a good distance away from the cafe and we're finally able to freely talk. "So, we're sharing them?" Aether asked, getting a nod or a yup from everyone in return. "We should do more research on them. What if they're already dating someone?" The composer of the group, Kazuha supplied. Noticing how the other boys' expressions got just a bit more malicious at that. Xiao looked around, being sure that they were completely isolated. "Then I'll give them a threat or a concussion." Xiao threatened, the other members were mostly in agreement with the statement. Any of them would already do appalling things for their new friend and future lover. "I'm sure as long as we don't scare them away they'll fall head over heels in love with at least one of us. We just need more time with them." Venti assured, not the fondest of using violence to settle his disputes. "Well one thing's for sure, they will learn to love us and will be ours." Aether voiced the idea on everyone's mind as they stepped into their shared studio apartment that could comfortably house about eight people. Leaving them all to individually plan how they would make you theirs.

On “Dead” Cultures and Closed Spiritual Practices: Why Colonialism Is Still A Problem.

Let me start this by saying that, as far as my knowledge of Paganism and Polytheism as a whole goes, I’m what the internet witch community calls a “Baby Witch”. I’m stating this out of the gate because I know there will be lots of people, including witches who have more experience on the craft than me, who might decide to ignore what I have to say based on that fact alone, stating that I’m not knowledgeable enough to give my opinion about this.

Here’s the kicker: I’m a ‘baby witch’, yes, but I’m also a twenty-six year old Venezuelan woman. I’m an adult. I’m Latina. I’m a Christian-raised Pagan,but I’m also a Latinoamerican woman over all other things including that. I grew up on this culture, these are my roots. It is because of this background than I’m writing this post today.

Looking through the “Paganism” and “Witchcraft” tags of this website, I’ve seen a few posts throwing indigenous deities and spirits’ names around on lists alongside deties of open cultures. Yes, you can know better by doing your own research and not going by what just a random Tumblr user wrote on one post (as I hope its the case with everyone on this website), but the fact that pagan beginners are still getting fed misinformation is still worrisome to me.

There’s nothing like reading a so-called expert putting Ixchen (Maya), Xolotl (Nahuatl) and Papa Legba (Vodou) on the same damn list as Norse, Hellenic and Kemetic deities and tagging it on the tags aimed at beginners who might not know better to truly ruin your morning. I’m not mentioning user names here: If you know then you know.

To quote @the-illuminated-witch on her very good post about Cultural Appropriation: 

“Cultural appropriation is a huge issue in modern witchcraft. When you have witches using white sage to “smudge” their altars, doing meditations to balance their chakras, and calling on Santa Muerte in spells, all without making any effort to understand the cultural roots of those practices, you have a serious problem.

When trying to understand cultural appropriation in witchcraft, it’s important to understand the difference between open and closed magic systems. An open system is one that is open to exchange with outsiders — both sharing ideas/practices and taking in new ones. In terms of religion, spirituality, and witchcraft, a completely open system has no restrictions on who can practice its teachings. A closed system is one that is isolated from outside influences — usually, there is some kind of restriction on who can practice within these systems.”

A counter-argument I’ve seen towards this when someone wants to appropiate indigenous deities and spirits is to use the “dead culture” argument: Extinct cultures are more eligible for use by modern people of all stirpes. It is a dead culture and dead religion. It would be one thing if some part of the culture or religion was still alive, being used by modern descendants, but the culture died out in its entirety and was replaced, right? They were all killed by colonization, they are ancient history now, right?

Example: “If white people are worshipping Egyptian deities now, then why can’t I worship [Insert Aborigen Deity Here]?”

To which I have two things to say:

Ancient Egypt’s culture was open and imperialistic, meaning they wanted their religion to be spread. This is why Kemetism is not Cultural Appropriation, despite what some misinformed people might tell you. Similar arguments can also be made for the Hellenic and the Norse branches of Paganism, both practiced by people who aren’t Greek/Norse.

Who are you to say which cultures are “dead” and which are not?

Religious practices such as Vodou and Santería certainly aren’t dead, not that it keeps some Tumblr users from adding Erzuli as a “goddess” on their Baby Witch post, something that actual Vodou practitioners have warned against.

Indigenous cultures such as the Maya and the Mapuche aren’t dead, despite what the goverment of their countries might tell you. The Mapuche in particular have a rich culture and not one, but two witchcraft branches (The Machi and the Kalku/Calcu). Both are closed pagan practices that the local Catholic Church has continuously failed to assimilate and erase, though sadly not for lack of trying:

“The missionaries who followed the Spanish conquistadors to America incorrectly interpreted the Mapuche beliefs regarding both wekufes and gualichos. They used the word wekufe as a synonym for ideas of the devil, demons, and other evil or diabolical forces. This has caused misunderstanding of the original symbolism and has changed the idea of wekufe right up to the present day, even amongst the Mapuche people.”

For context, the Wefuke are the Calcu’s equivalent of the Familiar, as well as reportedly having more in common with the Fae than with demons anyway.

This and other indigenous religions are Closed because it is wrong for foreigners to just come and take elements from marginalized groups whom are still fighting to survive and that they weren’t born into. To just approppiate those things would be like spitting in their faces, treating them and their culture like a commodity, a shiny thing, a unique thing to be used like paint to spruce up your life or be special.

I know some of you are allergic to the word “Privilege”, but on this situation there really ain’t a better word to explain it. You weren’t born here, you don’t know what it is like, you are only able to see the struggle from an outsider’s point of view.

If a belief or practice is part of a closed system, outsiders should not take part in it. And with how many practices there are out there which are open for people of all races, there is really no excuse for you to do it.

Why Colonization Is Not “Ancient History”

If you have kept reading all this so far, you are probably wondering “Ok, but what does Colonization has to do with any of this?”

The answer? Everything.

With the general context of culture appropriation out of the way, let me tell you about why the whole “dead culture” argument rubs me the wrong way: Here in Venezuela, we have a goddess called Santa Maria de la Onza, or Maria Lionza for short, whom’s idol statue I have been using to illustrate this little rant. If you happen to know any Spanish, you might recognize the name as a derivative of Santa Maria, aka the Virgin Mary, and you are mostly correct: Her true indigenous name is theorized to have been Yara.

And I say “theorized” because it is a subject of hot debate whether she was really ever called that or not: Her original name, the name by which she was adored and worshipped by our ancestors, might have been forever lost to history.

That’s the legacy of colonization for you: Our cultures were stolen from us, and what they couldn’t erase they instead tried to assimilate. Our ancestors were enslaved, their lands and homes stolen, their artwork and literary works destroyed: The Maya and the Aztec Empire were rich in written works of all kinds, ranging from poetry to history records to medicine, and the Spaniards burned 99% of it, on what is probably one of the most tragic examples of book burning in history and one that people rarely ever talk about. 

People couldn’t even worship their own gods or pass their knowledge of them to their children. That’s why Maria Lionza has such a Spanish Catholic-sounding name, and that’s why we can’t even be sure if Yara was her name or not: The Conquistadors couldn’t steal our goddess from us, so they stole her name instead. Catholics really have a thing with trying to assimilate indigenous goddesses with the Virgin Mary, as they tried to do the same with the Pachamama.

On witchy terms, I’d define Maria Lionza as both a deity and a land spirit: Most internet pages explaining her mention the Sorte mountain as her holy place, but it is more along the lines that she is the mountain. 

You’d think that, with Venezuela and other Latinoamerican countries no longer being colonies, we’d be able to worship our own deities including her, right?

As far as a lot of Catholics seem to think and act, apparently we are not.

The Catholics here like to go out of their way to shame us, to call us “cultists”, to ostracize us, with a general call to “refrain from those pagan beliefs” because they go against the Catholic principles. Yes, the goddess with the Catholic-sounding name, a name she happens to share with a Catholic deity, apparently goes “against Catholic principles”. This is just an act of colonization out of many, of not wanting to stop until the culture they want to destroy is gone. Don’t believe for a second that this is really their God’s will or anything like that, they are just trying to finish what years of enslavement and murder couldn’t. They might not be actively killing us anymore, but they still want us dead.

So no, colonization is not some thing that has long passed and now only exist on history textbooks: It is still happening to this day. It is by treating it as old history that they can keep doing it, and it is by pushing the narrative that our indigenous cultures are “dead cultures” that they try to erase our heritage.

Because we are not dead. We are still here, we are alive, we have survived and we’ll keep on surviving, and our gods and goddesses are not yours to take.

Any tips for attracting old money types? Currently I've been socializing in different circles in my town and I am starting to build up connections with people that will help with many different things but right now it is mostly middle class and upper middle class. Also, if you have to have any methods of recognizing them? Thanks for your time!

There are many factors and I think it really begins with yourself and who you are at your core. Old money is extremely exclusive and private. If they sense someone not aligning with their values and their upbringing they don’t bother to associate with them. I’ve seen it a few times. There’s been girls who have conversations with us and as soon as they start to curse excessively or idolize modern celebs like Meg the Stallion they just look at each other awkwardly and don’t continue the conversation further. They are very intelligent people with a lot of educational background so if someone isn’t proficient with the way they talk and use slang it’s another easy indicator to them. I’ve picked up a third language and felt so accomplished until I realized that’s the standard for most of them and they tend to know more and have traveled a lot more than me. And I’ve traveled a lot myself. They consider travel to be educational and that is always one of their main priorities. They’ll buy long lasting sustainable items instead of buying trending items and use all the money they save towards their education or future investments. If you want to befriend old money, you pretty much have to live the same lifestyle. Do you really want that brand new car or visit five different states in Europe next summer? This is what it comes down to. And a lot of their valuable items tend to be passed down through generations and it helps them save a lot and use their money towards what they value more. Education, travel, compounding inheritance etc. I really believe that when I became more minimalistic and mindful of what I chose to do with my money befriending old money became natural. I wasn’t in a new flashy car anymore. My health and education were prioritized and that led me to meeting some of them in fitness studios, certain retail stores, hiking groups, and really any valuable social setting. Being a socialite and going to the clubs and mansion parties is fun and all, but it’s definitely not their vibe. Well, for the majority of them at least. I feel like I traded my old life for a new one. And I liked my old life, but I love my new one. I think deciding to evolve and see what else is out there was good for me. I could go on and on about this topic, but to summarize it lightly, take a look at where you are in your life at the moment and who you connect with regularly. Ask yourself if they are the average consumer or the more mindful one. You’ll start to realize that 90% of society does not align with old money. And they live for social media and not themselves. It’s a different mindset to settle into. There are millionaires and billionaires that will never be accepted into the exclusive old money world. And they keep it that way for a reason. I typically don’t recognize them, occasionally I’ll wonder if a person is old money. But I really never fully find out until conversations are made and details are gathered. There were times where I thought I was certain someone was old money and the person just happened to be wearing that certain brand or be at that certain place for whatever random reason. If you live the same lifestyle as them and just focus on improving yourself, you will more likely than not meet them out of the blue.
