I see a lot about making space when you lose someone for grief but acknowledging that it’ll lead you to someone better suited for you, but I don’t see a lot about how that goes for the other person, too. Human relationships are a two-way conduit. Sometimes it’s better for the other person as well.

#I’m thinking about this a lot lately #sometimes people aren’t totally bad #but something happens and you know you can’t hang out the same way #and as much as it’s important to recognize cases where someone else is totally in the wrong #I think it’s also important to recognize that you’re making space in their life for someone else #and that can also be a good thing #for them #and for you #Sometimes when I’m around people I feel like I’m inflicting myself on them #these people aren’t bad people #but sometimes they won’t pull away #even if they need to #and pulling away first will mean they’ll find better people #does it hurt? #absolutely #but I’d rather hurt because someone set a boundary with me #than hurt because they suffered in silence next to me without saying anything #even though we could both tell something was off #sometimes when something happens you can sense it was a long time coming #and that’s it’s own kind of scary

So the thing is, tonally John Constantine is probably not a great match for Danny in lighter funnier fics

Don’t get me wrong, John can have his lighter moments, especially in crossovers, and he’s got a sense of humor

But

Hellblazer lore is dense and weird, but more importantly it’s DARK

Like, extremely

John is a deeply traumatized man, people around him get hurt, he spent three years inpatient at a psychiatric facility. There’s a story line where he’s a homeless alcoholic who makes friends with a rent-boy and shows a grim reality of life on the street, substance abuse, addiction, and sex work. It also ends with John’s demon blood eating the face off of the King of Vampires who happens to look like James Dean

That’s not even getting into the serial killer plot or the multiple trips to hell

Sins of the Father involves John being forced to confront the soul of his father in hell, a man who was terribly abusive and blamed John for the death of his mother who died while giving birth to him, which given information revealed during this comic turns out to be very misplaced.

However, makes him a good fit for a “Jack and Maddie are Bad Parents” fic, and/or a dissection fic

And it would basically play out like “Loser Baby” from Hazbin Hotel

Because it is a shitty situation. Coming to terms with neglect, the trauma of them rejecting him for an aspect of himself he can’t change Phantom Planet does not exist and the emotional and physical trauma of a dissection, and then being homeless and having to find a way to survive on his own

But John can empathize and understand

His own trauma may be different but he gets it, can relate to it, and can say “mate, situation is fucked to all hell but you don’t need to be alone because of that”

And that’s not even getting into the trauma of dealing with supernatural weirdness, which frankly they would both understand pretty well

Just two traumatized people bonding and saying “yes, we may be damaged goods, but we’re not broken and we aren’t alone”

I still think it’s incredible that people blindly accept big brands = unquestionably good when regarding pet care. I’m one of those people that entered the batfam fandom through fanfics, and then later decided to read the comics.

And holy shit. Bruce’s relationship with Dick is so bad???? Like I knew it wasn’t GOOD, but I thought it would be better than this.

And also, Dick seems to have a great relationship with Jason??? In fact, it’s JASON that is initially rude and coarse towards Dick, not the other way around. They quickly enter a brotherly relationship, and Dick gives both encouragement and approval to Jason as Robin. (I’m referencing the Nightwing: Year One Deluxe edition comic and Batman #416 which both have Jason’s first meeting with Nightwing).

Anyway, I know some new comics sometimes have stories that contradict the old ones, but I’m still surprised by canon. If anyone has insight on where the whole idea of Dick hating Jason came from, I’d love to hear it. If it’s specific comics, I’d be down to read them.

So playing What in Hell is Bad? has been an experience— a mostly positive one, but also cursed.

It’s overall very enjoyable, though it’s very clear it wasn’t tested properly before release, or at least didn’t have a wide array of testers. Thankfully the team seems very open to criticism and is listening to the issues their players are encountering — right down to adjusting difficulty.

It’s great to see that they care so much, and in a way it’s heartwarming to think about how excited (and overwhelmed) they probably were by the influx of unexpected player amounts. As a developer, though, I do feel for them— can only imagine the pressure to fix everything they can.

I’ll keep playing while they fix things— honestly the gacha has been absurdly generous.

Even if my gacha screen is utterly cursed (Satan doesn’t have eyes right now, and I don’t know why)… has anyone else encountered that?

My boy has been carrying me through some Chapter 2 levels.

That said, a warning to anyone who gets it, the "Shiny Leather Gloves" artifact can break "boss fights." Or at least it did last time I brought them in. Took me a second to realize why everyone just suddenly stopped attacking. This was the culprit.

Not entirely gamebreaking— you can still use ultimates, but annoying and slows it down a lot. It also doesn’t happen every time, but I just stopped bringing Leviathan (Selfie) into them entirely to avoid it because taking it off was annoying.

Imagine putting your heart and soul into a project because you love the source material, but have to work around certain scenarios because they won’t really translate well to screen, which is fine because you’ve gotten help/blessings from the ORIGINATOR of said source material so you’re feeling really good about everything. Maybe you wish you could change somethings, but you’re proud of the story that you’ve told and how true it is to the HEART OF THE STORY…

Only to then read that some of the fans of said source material think the show is awful and (somehow??) worse than the bad movie adaptations that disregarded the heart of the material (the actually STORY), all because of a casino and either adding or dropping minor story beats.
