There has been a lot of discourse surrounding the rat grinders and it's (mostly) been really cool and interesting

But while I love their complexity, and I think that it is important to remember that they are teenager who may have died in a very traumatic way before coming back, I also think that some people in the fandom are a bit too forgiving torwards them

There's a point where "They're teens,don't be so hard on them" doesn't cut it anymore.

They spent 2 years killing small animals in the woods before going to their spring break Adventure

Kipperlily complained about fairness and how the Bad Kids had an unfair advantage but then her and her party only ever picked easy adventures that would not challenge them or teach them anything

And also,while it can be understandable to want to feel unique and I agree that Kipperlily's anger issues are a sign of deeper problems;

we can all agree that a fairly wealthy girl with living parents being envious of a lower class boy whose mother can barely pay for food because she is jealous that his dad died horribly when he was little IS absolutely fucked up right?

Like, it's such a deeply entitled attitude; and it doesn't make her a monster, but her not being a monster doesn't make her an innocent little angel who never did anything wrong; a middle ground exists

Maybe the reason Ivy wasn’t shocked in seeing Lucy at Fabian’s party because she thought that maybe, MAYBE, there was a change Lucy could still accept the nameless rage god, even after all this time.

When she saw Lucy, or what she thought was Lucy, there was no shock or horror. Simply a nod. Ivy could interpret seeing her alive as Lucy giving in, coming back after agreeing to finish what they started.

What I wonder is if Ivy told anyone about what she saw that night. If the reason the rat grinders were able to take down prof Badgood was because they were coincidentally there at the same time to inspect Lucy’s body. Then they saw the same thing with Prof Badgood, a complete denial of the second life offered to her.

Now it’s spring, and it doesn’t look like Lucy has that chance anymore.

I saw a fleeting glimpse of a post about fancasting the rat grinders but tumblr refreshed and the post disappeared but I made my fancast anyway

Kipperlily - Vic Michaelis. Would bring the same rancid vibes (complimentary) to the role as they have to the role of Vic Michaelis on VIP.

Ruben - Zach Reino. Does Zach even play D&D? Regardless, their ability to bring little bitch boy energy in PIBE make them perfect for this role. Plus imagine the terrible emo songs Zach would make up. (Alternatively: Brian David Gilbert, who would lean into the unhinged chasing after Wanda Childa energy more.)

Ivy - Izzy Roland. No one does socially intimidating better than Izzy.

Oisin - Jake Hurwitz. I may have a soft spot for Oisin. But I think Jake would bring a "just a good guy" energy that would add layers of complexity to the character. Bonus: it would be hilarious for Jake "how many times can I get away with playing a fighter" Hurwitz to play a wizard.

Mary Ann - Rekha Shankar. Socially intimidating but in a different way to Ivy/Izzy, Rekha's Mary Ann would be sooo frustrating and absolutely make Gorgug fly into a rage.

Buddy - Caldwell Tanner. In many ways Buddy is just Beverley Toegold V with more religious trauma and less touching of hands.

Lucy - Surena Marie. Sweet on the outside but with a solid, steely, unshakeable core, and impossible to dislike. Also I just want more Surena.

because she's not nameless. her name is ankarna, apparently. adaine found it. adaine abernant, elven oracle, read it aloud to the cosmos and destroyed the oblivati mori.

but buddy does not follow ankarna. buddy follows a nameless god.

the rat grinders do not know the name of the god they follow. they do not know the cause in which they fight for. we were warned by pok, episode 13, that if someone began worshipping ankarna, it would be unsafe. but the rat grinders do not follow ankarna. they follow someone unnamed.

i wonder what would happen if the rat grinders learned her name.

Cause so far. Kristen started to doubt her god, started to question if it was good. She gave her god and made up one. Then another one. Then she revived one she could really love and worship and trust

Tracker loved her goddess so much and was so tired of the racism she was living that she started a religious movement to change how people was living their faith and how her goddess was perceived

Lucy changed gods on official paper and still couldn't give up her faith when threaten with death

I like to think out of everyone buddy surprisingly ended up being one of the easier converts to ankarna,,,, after all that relentless, sometimes forced positivity and repression, then suddenly meeting helio and finding out the god it was all for is Like That… I imagine that’s hard to respond too with anything other than rage, especially as a teenager
