a/n: a little something quick that I thought of!

Recognizing that you had agreed to this, you had been prepared to accept anything. An affair, a drug addiction, secret ties to the mafia overlords like high society always suspected. That was your job as Bruce's spouse: contractually obligated to be okay with it and never let anyone find out about it. Whatever it was.

Even now, as your brain short circuits and the floor feels like you're about to sink right into it, you're looking for ways to be okay with this, and he's looking at you like he wants to kill you.

It's a fleeting look. One second there, the next vanished. Neither of you say anything but there is a world of things being felt, you're certain. One of you has to budge. "This... isn’t what I was expecting."

But Bruce doesn't laugh (and you'd never expect him to, not in your presence). He stands there, heaving slow breaths to calm himself down, the cowl still conspicuously trembling between both of his hands. He could've tossed it or let it go but it's almost like you've frozen him solid.

"Where did you get that?" Is all he demands, eyes trained on the key glimmering in your hand now. "The doormen have orders to-"

"To not let me in? I know. I had the key made myself. Your doormen are easy to persuade with the right amount of money."

Bruce's lip twitches and he scoffs. "I won't tell anyone," you assure him, about 75% convinced of it yourself, "It does me no good to have extra eyes on me, and I'm sure you've got contingency plans in place were I or anyone else to expose you. You were always very good about that. Plans."

"Of course you won't. Your mother wouldn't approve of the disruption in cash flow."

Your eyes narrow. "I am not interested in what my mother wants."

"Why not? She's a part of this marriage, too. Isn't she?"

"Can we talk about the suit?" Bruce stiffens when you bring back attention to the compromised position you'd found him in. "I have questions, and I suppose if you want me to be good at lying about your... hobby, you'll have to prep me."

"I think the less you know, the better. Personally."

"The 'my husband's just busy with work' spiel is getting old, and people are already starting to talk about us living apart. Now, when I married you," you watch him flinch as you take a step forward, "I promised that I would be with you in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, 'til death do us part. Your business is my business. Your secret," within arm's length of his cowl, you wrench it from his grasp and he relents rather easily, "is my secret. I will take it with me to the grave so long as you keep up your end of the bargain."

Up close, you take in the black paint smeared over his eyes, a fitting backdrop for his stunning eyes so cool. The fire in the hearth flickers off of them, reflecting back at you as you stand but inches apart.

Just as you stole his cowl, Bruce steals your key. He holds it up in the palm of his glove, "You want to move in."

You hum, "It would help with appearances. And my mother would be pleased."

"I thought you weren't interested in what your mother wants."

"I'm not, but she's interested in you, and given tonight's revelation... I think you'd like someone keeping her nose out of your business."

You punctuate your point with a touch to his chest, palm laid flat over his heart and the several layers of iron-clad padding in front of it. His hair falls into his eyes as he looks down at it, then back at you. There's discomfort there but... something else. Resignation, you'd wager. Defeat. You almost sigh in relief when it dawns on you that you've—rather miraculously—won this battle going in completely blind.

Later, it will dawn on you (or plummet on you) just what you've witnessed tonight. Just what you've agreed to. Just who you've married.

Bruce peels your hand away, placing the key in your palm before releasing it like a burning stone. "There are guest rooms on the second floor." He pauses when you're not fast enough to school your expression, his mouth turning down into a scowl, "This changes nothing else." And he stalks away.

Nothing else. This changes nothing else, but if anyone were to ask, the honeymoon was going great.

— trey is rather busy during the holidays, helping his family's bakery in the winter months. he's always thankful for your help in the kitchen, delivery orders to customers, or just keeping his siblings busy.

— cater wants nothing more than to sit in front of a fire with you. listening to the quiet cracking of fire and your voices filling the room just add to the calming atmosphere. he would take a picture if he didn’t feel so comfortable with not moving, but maybe this is a memory to keep in his mind

— ace started a snowball fight with you. it turns out he’s very strategic in his plays and doesn’t just throw blindly. forts we’re built, words were said, and only one will remain victorious. despite his plans, he’s too easily caught off guard and you take the final blow

— deuce also takes you ice skating except he has no idea how. the entire time you guys are holding hands, trying to keep deuce from losing his balance. and if you can't skate wither? oh boy what a ride the two of you will go on. and if they’re are little kids who can skate better?? they will make it their life goal to teach deuce to skate

— leona drags you along with him to take care of cheka. his nephew wants to go to all different shops and restaurants, but his parents were too busy. now, because leona has to suffer, you do to. but cheka's so much fun to be around, playing with the other children in the snow, buying warm cookies from the cafe for you and leona to share. all of you are bundled up warmly you don't even feel the chilly wind pass by.

— ruggie invites you to charity events to help people in need. he knows how it feels, so he wants to give extra blankets and fold his grandmother made for the people. your extra hands and conversation make the moment more meaningful

— jack brings you sledding. he is a trained veteran in the art of sledding so you’ll be perfectly safe. the moment is breathtaking as you slide down the mountain with the snow flying past. no jack’s tail isn’t wagging from happiness, it’s just really cold okay?

— kalim will pull you outside with him to enjoy the early snow. as soon as he spots the first snowflake on campus he's already ready to enjoy the wintry scene with you. making snow angels, building snowmen, just simple enjoying the winter weather with you.

— jamil teaches you how to make traditional food from his culture even though he's sick. the cold got to him too quickly and despite your protest, he refuses to sit around sick and let you cook by yourself. it turns out to be a fun experience, even if you almost make a mess of the kitchen while telling jamil to get some rest.

— vil loves window shopping you with. seeing all the shops decorated with holiday decor, the flashing lights, the fresh smell of ginger in the air. he enjoys watching your expression when you see something displayed in the shop that caught your eye. and even though you're not "supposed" to buy something you see in the window, expect vil to purchase it for you.

— rook wants to enjoy the scenery with you by his side. it’s only once a year that the world Im has come together to help those in need, the snow falling ever so gently, and the flowers that bloom when the ground is covered in snow. such beauty, how marvelous! and he gets to enjoy the scenery with you by his side

— epel visits winter markets with you. he used to go to them with his grandparents when he was little, so he wants to bring you with him. the handcrafted jewelry, freshly baked goods, and live music for entertainment. he wants you to enjoy yourself, while showing you the places he went while growing up

— idia thinks this is the perfect time to binge an entire season with you. it's way too cold outside and what better than to spend the time to do something meaningful? he has snacks laying about his room so you never have to leave, the temperature is just right, all that is needed is you to say yes to his invitation

— ortho builds gingerbread houses with you. he’s interested in the architecture and creating little gingerbread people to fit inside the house. he loves decorating and playing festive music to fill the rare times of silence. 10/10 best experience and ortho would love to do it again sometime with you!!

— lilia can and will fight you with candy canes. it is a battle to the death and he is determined to win. he's going to poke you with the point he creates with the cane and it will be a duel to the death. hopefully, you are prepared.

— silver wants to take this time to learn to knit. if he’s going to be asleep for most of the time he would at least want to have something comfortable with him. he’ll come to you and ask if what he’s making is comfortable, he’ll come to you for color and pattern designs. don’t be surprised if you find him asleep in the middle of knitting because it’s just very comfortable

— sebek needs you help with baking. he wants to create something for the entire dorm so he goes to you, the most tolerable human. and despite his loud voice and the occasional bantering, sebek enjoys himself when spending time with you

I am OBSESSED with your colored in manga pages!!! They’re beautiful I can’t stop thinking about them, how do you do your TWST page edits??? I’m really wanting to color the chapters too! It looks so fun!

I downloaded the pages (of chp1) straight from where I read them, and edited over (im using krita! Maybe photoshop would be better??) but I can’t seem to make them look the way I want them to. The line quality is nowhere near yours, yours looks so professional! I hope I’m not stepping on your toes by asking but I feel like I’m missing something 😭 would you mind explaining where/how you download the pages with such high quality? Do you turn them transparent like coloring books or edit overtop of them? I hope this ask isn’t too much!!

The pages I've been using for color edits are from turtlesoupscans' uploads – they're a scanlation group focused on TWST, and currently have stuff up for the manga (both the main story + anthology comic) as well as translations for the official novel. To my understanding, their scans ARE okay to use for color edits, but not for re-translations or mass-reuploads.

I do all my edits in photoshop using a lot of multiply & lighten layers! The coloring book method u mentioned is so enticing yet so traitorous…in photoshop, the selection + erasing method tends to damage the lineart, and the inverted channel method for removing white backgrounds quickly will keep a 'film' if the background isn't pure #ffffff. (Maybe krita has a more effective solution? 👀)

(Also bc I brought up using photoshop I'm ethically obligated to mention that photopea, an online equivalent to photoshop, exists and is free to use)

I've never used krita before, but from what I'm seeing of its layout/capabilities, the process I use should translate over fairly well–

(Added a black bg to the "fill" portion to make it easier to see)

First come the "fill" layers, which are for covering up halftones & similar shading techniques. This step isn't super necessary (and sometimes involves a lot more editing to replicate halftone gradients/patterns), but I heavily recommend it for scenes that involve a lot of dark colors. Leaving halftones in can cause colors to look darker & grayer than they should, the latter of which you specifically want to avoid when making color edits of darker-skinned characters. (They can also be really good for conveying texture tho, which is why I left the statues' shading alone in this example.)

Next are the color layers, where the bulk of the editing happens. As I mentioned above, I use a ton of multiply layers for this so I can just draw over the image. Darken layers also work, but I've found they tend to affect line density & smoothness. The shading and highlighting here is done using masking layers for individual objects/structures – I think quick group + choosing inherit alpha for the mask layer is the krita equivalent? Layers for darkening the overall lighting (like for nighttime scenes) would also go in this section.

Finally, the lighten layers are solely for the lineart. This is to help "soften" the the lineart, so to speak, making the scene feel a little more 3D/fleshed-out. This step is especially important when dealing with hard shadows, like on the Dark Mirror's frame, Pomefiore's windows, and Ignihyde's central pillar-thing. What I do is put down a bunch of lighten layers, typically at 50% or 75% opacity, and color-pick the darkest part of whatever feature I'm editing the lineart for. Because I'm using a darker color, the surrounding multiply layers will usually go unaffected by the lighten layers – if not, I just gotta zoom in and be careful about it. These layers need to be on top of/closer to the 'front' than the color layers, or else the multiply effect of the color layers will apply to the lighten layers as well.

Thanks for bearing with my kinda long-winded explanation! I've been learning as I go, so there might be easier/better ways of doing things that I haven't stumbled across yet.

That is a tough one to answer! I've been thinking of this project in phases as I don't think there will be a solid way of getting anything done if I don't, the first and current phase is around 75% done as it is been mostly getting the core systems down to streamline future development!! This phase in terms of actual gameplay will be mostly a multiplayer stress test to get rid of bugs and all that but it won't have the important mechanics that are vital to the actual game so I don't really count it as a big progress update? FNAF 1s gameplay is completely there, I revamped the AI System to be a fun json so I can easily edit and add things, it also removes some code bloat.

(SpeedMax is the time between movement checks. ActivityLevel is the number that the movement check has to use to see if the animatronic moves or not. The numbered AMs add onto the animatronics Activity Level when it gets to that time. Similar thing with the NightAI levels, they are what the animatronics Activity Level is on those nights.) I want to streamline camera movements to be a similar system but I haven't gotten to it yet </3 Most of the time as of recent has been learning blender for the renders that I've been posting and shown in game, speaking of that...

Here is the stage render in-game! When I made the renders I forgot a camera completely, so sadly I have more work than I thought I did (rest in peace the east corner) Bonnie is completely done camera render wise, Chica needs her east corner render to be made and the rest cutout, Freddy hasn't gotten his renders other than the show stage done and I haven't even messed with Foxy yet as blender animations scare me!! But Its been quite fun to learn all of this, this little game has caused me to learn so much new skills and It's been very interesting! FUN FACT, instead of every combo of animatronics on cameras having a separate render this game uses cutouts instead, layering the animatronics on top of each other and the original camera render! You can't even tell the difference but it does help so much on development time!! It does have its problems as all things do but I have found some fun solutions to those problems >:D THANK YOU MELO FOR THE ASK!! I'm sure a long post was not expected but I do appreciate asks and I adore gushing about this project, go check Melo out if you haven't already as they have great art and very fun posts!!

another new toy

I've been planning to get a number of accessories for my new computer. A new monitor, microphone, maybe one of those vr headsets. But after having it for a few weeks, one thing jumped out as needing an upgrade more urgently than anything else - the stock full size keyboard that came with it was just too large and awkward for my little keyboard shelf. I was tempted to go back to the Microsoft Compact Bluetooth keyboard that I was using with the Steam Deck... but I haven't had a "real" computer, like a proper desktop computer in decades, I wanted a "real" keyboard to go with it. Like a proper mechanical keyboard with switches and buttons and such. And so I typed "mechanical keyboard reviews" into a youtube search, blissfully unaware of the rabbit hole I was about to fall down.

If you know then you already know, but it came as a surprise to me that membrane keyboards are so cheap and so easy to mass produce that they've taken over the casual market altogether, forcing mechanical keyboards into the domain of the ⋆ ˚｡⋆˚enthusiast⋆ ˚｡⋆˚

Yes, it seems proper keyboards are a hobby now, not a very cheap one either, and the very last thing I need is another expensive hobby. But every hobby has its more affordable and approachable on ramps, and there are a number of pre-built budget boards occupying this space in world of mechanical keyboards. After watching a few dozen hours of youtube videos and reading a bunch of reviews and tutorials, I eventually settled on the RK84 'limited edition' from Royal Kludge for us$80. Which is like twice what I expected to pay when I in my naive innocence began shopping for keyboards, but I've come to understand that eighty bucks absolutely counts as "budget" in this hobby.

Pricing aside, I really do love my new keyboard. The 75% form factor is ideal, better centering the typing keys and saving a bunch of extra space on my little shelf while maintaining all the functionality of a full size board save only for the number pad. While I do like to use a number pad, I don't mind taking one out when I need it, and the keyboard even has a couple usb ports to easily plug a mouse and separate number pad into, which is super convenient and such an obvious idea that I really have to wonder why all keyboards aren't doubling as USB multi-dongles at this point, with additional usb ports, sd card ports, and so on.

For $10 more than the regular RK84 wireless, the 'limited edition' version has better keycaps, factory-lubed switches, some filler foam in the housing to reduce the hollow sound, an additional layer of sound dampening foam sandwiched between the top plate and the pcb, and a snazzy color scheme, the version I chose combining a black body and mostly black keys with a white top plate that better reflects the swirly rainbow rgb backlighting. The sound is decent, at least to my untrained ear, right out of the box. Which is ideal, as I'd like to avoid the temptation to start modding it.

Because I've gone about as far down this particular rabbit hole as I want to go.

Though I suppose it is tempting to open it up, as some basic tape & band aid mods would be cheap and easy and might improve the sound a bit...

And as much as the pre-lubed yellow linear switches are nice, I did make sure to get a hot-swappable board so it's easy to change them out later if I want to try alternatives, and I do think I might prefer tactile switches for typing...

And the rgb lighting is nice enough that it really is a shame these caps aren't shine though. Yeah, yeah, shine-through is tacky, but Cringe is Dead, and some black top pudding caps might really make the lighting pop. Or maybe a mix of black, white and some accent color to match the color layout that the board came with?

The abyss, it tempts me so...

Whinging ahead.

Right so I have a thing where I react really badly to cold temperatures. Like, "swell up and chronic pain, rheumatoid arthritis is the start but not the end of it, it'll eventually kill me and oh yeah it also causes cancer" bad. I currently take a medication that makes that better a lot of the time, but that wears off about two weeks before I get my next injection on average... sometimes more, sometimes less. When I'm more stressed, it's more. This past month has been the most stressful and emotionally through-the-wringer month I have had in a loooooooong time. We're not going to get into why right now.

Anyway, years ago when I first started living with my then-girlfriend, now-wife, I said there was one non-negotiable aspect of living with me, and that was that the thermostat could not ever be turned down below 75 degrees. It's not that I don't "like" temps below that point, it is that temps below that point cause me profound, lasting (16-24 hrs after a single exposure) physical pain. It also wasn't a cutesy "oh he likes the thermostat this way she likes it this way" thing, it was something way more serious and I did not want my home to literally be hostile to my existence as a person. I wanted to be able to be comfortable in one place in the world, at the very least, to not need to wear layered thermals in my own house. She agreed to that.

Well, now she is on a medication that makes her feel very hot-natured. It's not painful, but uncomfortable if the temperature is above 72ish degrees. Thus, for the last 12 months, every single day I have come home the house has been 68 degrees or less indoors. That is a literally unlivable temperature for me without two sets of thermals, a hot bath once a day, and three set of blankets on the bed along with a heated blanket underneath those (yes, I realize that seems like overkill. Welcome to my life) at night.

I point this out to her, and have pointed this out to her along with why this matters - several times - and she acknowledges that it is important... and then doesn't change. Or, she'll change for a limited period of time, but go back to having the thermostat set low within a week or two. Or, allow it to slip into lower temperatures by passively forgetting to adjust it as outside temperatures change.

This is my life and my health that is being put at risk, and I have brought this up several times. I'm at my wit's end trying to fix this without being an asshole about it. I realize her health situation has also changed vis a vis her medication and that will of course impact things, and she much more readily agreed to the proviso back when she preferred indoor temps to be about the same as I did. But, still, there is a difference between finding something uncomfortable and finding something unlivable, and right now I have to go to extraordinary lengths just to make it so that she can sleep easily and comfortably at night and lounge around in the clothes she wants to wear at home, while I am dressed like I am about to embark on a trek across the Yukon Territories. It is becoming infuriating to me.

anyway here is my MC just before it all goes to shit. something something peacock feathers symbolising pride something something the height of pride before a fall—you get me?

BONUS!!!: here is a shitpost i drew as a real insight into how i felt for about 35% of the process.

You don't have to read this if you don't want to. This is my rant and criticism space, it's really more for me. Thanks 7 years of conditioned behavior.

I considered this piece abandoned a few months ago. Just as I was starting the first pass of shading I saw a massive error. I'm pretty vigilant with my layers, keeping copies in case I need to go back and fix something, but I thought I was all done and dusted. Ready for the next stage. So I had no backups. At this point I'm too far in to easily fix it without making a huge mess and it was a massive motivation killer. I couldn't stop thinking about it and I didn't want to continue, so I left it.

Months later I came back, the work I hadn't finished was perfectly fine, I thought it looked good. I decided that I was going to finish the piece even if it killed me even with the mistakes. It happens to all of us. And man I am so happy I continued.

I could've kept going on it to be honest, but I had to put a stop somewhere. There are problems, things I wish I had or hadn't done, but for what it is I'm damn pleased with myself. So I'd say it was a success :)

The last 45 minutes were spent on the background (look too close and I'll kill you). There wasn't even going to be one before then. Glad I stuck out the extra time even though I was fucking exhausted and ready to have my hand completely crushed by a large object.

Around 75% of the way done I notice that my auto-saves are causing my laptop to freeze. I know hefty files can do this but it's only a full body drawing, not what I'd consider hefty. Well it turns out that past me thought so highly of this piece, before it was even a sketch, to have it be in 4K RESOLUTION. That shit is crisp as hell, drink in all that clear detail, so long as Tumblr doesn't nuke it from orbit. (Future me here to say that yep, it got nuked. Guess I'll be the only one who gets to see it in high def, just what I wanted lmao 😒)

It sucks even more because I'm noticing the lack of clarity on another piece I'm doing, but I 1. don't need 4K quality and 2. my laptop can't take that level of a beating every time CSP auto-saves. Yeah I could turn off auto-saves but that feels like just asking for trouble.

Also yeah, I'm doing one for Hebe. It won't be as detailed as this piece because, unfortunately, that ability is on cooldown. Doesn't mean I won't try my hardest regardless, I just fear what might happen to me if I try that again too soon. I don't want another 3 month long shutdown. (As I write this I'm literally at the same point in her piece as I was with this one just before I gave up, lol)

In relation to the current discussion you were having about Jimmy sharing and reliving his trauma, based on interviews and behaviors, it definitely feels like both Jimmy and Robert dealt with some form of PTSD, especially in the 80s and maybe still now. Zeppelin’s end wasn’t like the Beatles’ breakup, it was personal tragedies and this horrible darkness compounded on each other over and over and it was a cohesive perfect unit being slowly and agonizingly torn apart which much have been traumatizing. Any of the singular events (Karac’s passing, Jimmy’s addiction and ED, the violent entourage getting into all kinds of trouble) alone would’ve been traumatic, but all of them stacked, especially after coming off of being on top of the world, had to have been extreme difficult to cope with. That might just be an extra layer of why Robert cannot do any more zeppelin, and why Jimmy desperately hypes up the good parts of it, and desperately sweeps the bad parts under the rug

“Hey, J.K. I feel like I might be trying to do too much at one time and it’s making it hard to focus on my reboot. I’m trying to quit smoking cigarettes, quit smoking marijuana, and quit porn, all while trying to navigate my feelings about separating from my partner.

“How can I navigate all of this and remain successful? Am I trying to do too much at once? How do you avoid falling into the trap of, ‘I’m not looking at porn so it’s okay to masturbate as long as I don’t use it’?”

Porn addiction problems are devastating for men to overcome. It leaves you consumed with shame and guilt for your behavior and separated from the people around you. When you struggle with more than one addiction, though, the problem becomes even harder. Plenty of men deal with other addictions alongside their porn problem. What is the best way to approach these issues? How to stop porn addiction along with other addictions?

First of all, this is probably more common than you think. A lot of brothers feel ending their out-of-control behavior creates a great opportunity to turn a new leaf in life. While it is a great opportunity to make some changes, it’s not a good idea to end every single compulsive behavior you have at once.

I’m not saying it’s impossible but it does make it much more difficult. It’s not the most realistic way of approaching a successful porn addiction recovery. You run the risk of overwhelming yourself by doing everything at the same time. In my experience, men who tackle these problems one at a time rather than all at once are far more successful in the long run.

You can still take on too much at once during your reboot even if you don’t struggle with other addictions. I see it all the time. Men in the Porn Reboot group are talking about doing 75 Hard, about reading a book a week, about losing weight, and about starting a business, all while trying manage their erectile dysfunction and end their out-of-control behavior with porn, sex, and masturbation.

Unsurprisingly, the wheels fall off at some point and they end up in a bigger rut than before.

I’m all for becoming a stronger man and building a better life. But that doesn’t happen by sending yourself into a tailspin by trying to juggle multiple major changes simultaneously. Instead, I believe that taking on changes one at a time and committing them to your new lifestyle is a far more effective approach.

This brother also mentions that he’s trying to quit all of these behaviors while processing the feelings of a breakup. This adds another layer of difficulty to the problem because he’s removing every coping mechanism he’s built over the years. Eliminating all these ways of dealing with his emotions at once will only lead to a harder relapse.

Handling emotions is difficult for anyone in the Porn Reboot program. It’s not something that comes easily; it takes time, practice, and dedication. You may think that ripping the band aid off all at once is the best approach but you’re only making things harder on yourself.

Unless your substance use is putting you in dangerous situations or poses an immediate threat to your physical well-being, I recommend starting with your porn addiction.
