We know Lily rejected James because of his behavior. We also know that, from that point on, James made an effort to correct himself. Their close proximity during that time, as members of the same house, suggests Lily witnessed this improvement as it occurred.
That means it's possible Lily developed feelings for James prior to 7th year. Therefore, there could be another reason why she waited.
One theory is that she wanted to see if he could handle just being friends, and she got her answer during their time as head boy and girl. It showed Lily that James saw her as more than just a romantic pursuit. Knowing that, Lily felt comfortable pursuing him.
Another theory is that Lily was afraid to fall behind academically. She was a muggleborn; she knew that she had to work twice as hard as the other students. She didn't have time to be distracted by a relationship. Friends are one thing, but boyfriends are another.
(And if she fell behind, if she let down her parents and didn't meet their expectations, would it all have been worth it? Would the fractured remains of the relationship with her sister be worth some juvenile relationship with another "freak"?)
Skip to 7th year. This is when you are most comfortable at school. You know your strengths and weaknesses. You know yourself. With that added layer of security, plus the promise of a future outside of the school, Lily would be open to dating.
Overall, I just really appreciate how Lily waited until they were older and more mature to revisit James' past feelings. It gave them time to grow with each other.

My The Locked Tomb hot take: I don't think perfect lyctorhood is possible. I don't think there's any such thing as a perfect lyctorhood that's inherently perfectly balanced. I think lyctorhoods are about relationships (in a series explicitly about the "horrors of love") and about codependency and about relationships shaped by empire.
Like I generally think we're going to get a bittersweet, hopeful ending for Gideon and Harrow and their relationship but I don't think it'll be in a perfect lyctorhood. To me, that would be equivalent of them having a perfect relationship where they never hurt each other in mundane ways.
I sometimes wonder if they'll break the soul-bond and start afresh but I tend to lean towards "mutually choosing exactly how to eat parts of each other in exchange" just because I feel like that's better at literalizing the emotional codependency.

A few comments on a recent post about RWBY I made got me thinking about something. Basically, I think that Rooster Teeth – and possibly by extension its parent companies – have artificially inflated RWBY as a media project and franchise rather than letting it grow organically. Therefore, it became a bubble that was bound to burst at some point. RWBY might never have been a profitable IP, which might be very relevant for its future.
This is not a problem that arose after Monty Oum‘s passing, I feel like this was already coming before that. Shane Newville‘s open letter (which absolutely comes from an emotional, mentally unwell state of mind, but has had many of its contents confirmed over the years, even beyond being one of the first descriptions of the toxic work environment at Rooster Teeth) makes a few points that support this impression. Whether you agree with the letter or not, you cannot deny that the first two volumes of RWBY, while they also had merch accompanying them and stuff, were not produced following industry standards – starting with the 3D software used, Poser Pro (Monty Oum‘s preferred tool for animation). This led to some really creative animation work that, while not always high-quality by industry-standards, was certainly pushing boundaries. It was creative and it worked for what RWBY was: a passion project created by someone who saw animation as his strongest suit – as his preferred medium to tell a story. I‘ve seen a lot of people claim that Monty Oum wasn‘t a writer, and while that‘s true, I feel like the implication of that statement is always that he couldn‘t tell stories on his own. I don‘t think that‘s true. I think Monty Oum was a great storyteller when it came to expressing certain things through animated action scenes. It‘s just that he wanted to tell a story that included more than just that and a few lines of dialogue – which is where Miles Luna and Kerry Shawcross come in, two at the time very inexperienced writers (who possibly had a fallout with Monty Oum over creative differences later), as well as some talented folks – people like Shane Newville. They were chosen to work on this because Monty Oum acknowledged their potential and liked to work with them, and I feel like that created an environment where they were really allowed to flourish. Volumes 1 and 2 are certainly not flawless, but I feel like I can tell the people making it had fun.
To Rooster Teeth however? I think RWBY (and by extension, Monty Oum as a creator) might have been little more than assets to them. RWBY was first created around a time when RT first tried to be more like, well, an actual company. At least from 2014 onward, but possibly even earlier than that, this included an effort to conform to industry standards more, mostly in order to be able to hire more people – very visibly so in RWBY in the form of the switch to Maya (my opinion about that is, the way they did it didn’t do RWBY any favors at all). I think they saw RWBY and Monty Oum as an opportunity to appear… More important, bigger, than they ever really were.
So what did they do? Again, I kind of have the feeling that they “upscaled” RWBY to a size where it appears like this big thing, but it became far too much to handle. Essentially, they created a mock giant, or a metaphorical quasi-star: something that can appear big from afar, but is actually very small / unstable (and if we go with the quasi-star metaphor, disturbs all of its surroundings). This is what I mean when I say that RWBY was a bubble bound to burst, because no star lives forever – and quasi-stars can only exist under very specific, very unstable conditions (I linked a Kurzgesagt-video in case you’re interested what exactly a quasi-star / black hole star is / was, cosmology is so fascinating IMO). Once these conditions exist no longer, they both fall apart and collapse into the black hole that is their core at the same time.
My main argument for this is that RWBY was essentially a huge money sink for RT (Source: Barbara Dunkelman’s unprofessionalism). They pumped so much money into this… Perhaps even more than they ever made from it. While this isn’t 100% confirmed, it is very much possible (and IMO not exactly unlikely) that RWBY was never profitable — which it might have been if RT hadn’t been so hellbent on creating the illusion of a multi-million-dollar franchise.
This is purely speculative, but this might also be why Volume 10 was never greenlit. We know that Volume 9 was to a significant part funded by Crunchyroll and in fact would not have been possible without them (probably because RT was already out of money at this point). They might have bought into this mock giant, then realized they had pretty much been scammed once Volume 9 aired. This might have led to Crunchyroll’s unwillingness to fund another season for something they knew now was effectively a money sink. Since RT at this point lacked the funds to produce Volume 10 alone and therefore was dependent on investors like Crunchyroll and Warner Brothers… Volume 10 was never greenlit, no matter how hard they attempted to get their fans’ hopes up and start a hashtag campaign on social media (as far as I remember, that was started by Rooster Teeth, not the fans. I don’t have my Twitter account anymore though, so I can’t check). Again though, this is speculation.
The worst part? This refusal of RT to just… Downscale RWBY again, this determination that it had to be this huge franchise… Was all put on the backs of the creatives working on it. We know at this point, from multiple sources, that RWBY and other RT productions have had an incredible amount of crunchtime, working overtime, employee abuse, … going on behind the scenes, which seems to only have gotten worse after Monty Oum’s passing. At the end of the day, all RT does and has ever done is blame others for their incompetence. Like, no shit, I’ve seen fans claim that it’s the FNDM’s job to “keep the show alive” (particularly in the light of #GreenlightVolume10), which… No, that’s not the fans’ job. It’s the job of the company who has been entrusted with this beloved IP, and said company has proven to be utterly incompetent on multiple occasions, which is unfortunate, but a sad reality for all those who love RWBY. And while Rooster Teeth has never directly said such a thing, they have certainly implied it and taken advantage of the existing sentiment within their fanbase, as well as their parasocial relationship with it (again, see #GreenlightVolume10 for reference).
To clarify, I’m not saying none of this would have happened if RT didn’t insist on making RWBY this big franchise (and biting off far more than they could chew in the process) – again, RT was far too notoriously incompetent at everything a company should manage – but I do think it might have played a role. It also isn’t an excuse for all the employee abuse. Again, what they should have done is downsizing the project, not inflating it further and further.
If I’m not somehow completely in the wrong (because IMO this just makes way too much sense to not be at least partially true – but let’s face it, a lot of this is just me connecting dots, and there is always a chance I’m connecting them wrong, even though I don‘t think so), then it kinda blows my mind that there are still people who believe in this scam. Though I will say, emotional attachment can do that to anyone. If anything, I’m honestly sorry that those folks lose something that means so much to them, and that false promises were made to them.
At the end of the day, the story of RWBY (the “franchise”) is twofold. It’s a story about an incredibly talented creator who passed away far too early, who was given the incredible opportunity to make his dream come true. It’s a story of people he trusted taking up his torch, and maybe getting lost in the dark along the way. It’s an inspiring story regardless, and I hope to see it continued at a downsized scale so it can grow organically, preferably in the hands of an indie animation studio like Dillon Goo (🤞)
But it is also a cautionary tale to both creatives and companies who employ them, a tale about false promises, abuse of both employees and fans, as well as how to not run a project. Don’t blow your thing out of proportion too early, don’t create a mock giant / metaphorical quasi-star. Let your ideas and projects grow and flourish organically and sincerely.

so. V absolutely knows FAR more than she's letting on.
"New body, same horrors, huh CYN?" at 16:45 in the new episode, specifically. for context, when N reboots in EP 1, the startup screen says "ABSOLUTESOLVER: BLOCKED BY ADMINISTRATION CYN" (roughly, but the CYN part is there).
she knows that the DDs weren't just sent to clean up rogue AI. the company found something they regretted finding, likely the mix of gravity manipulation (i think) and self-healing machines, both enabled by AbsoluteSolver and built into DDs.
the markers on Yeva's (now Doll's) bracelet and Nori's (now Uzi's) choker were used to identify the Solver test batch of Workers -> test batch gradually deteriorated due to overheating -> one probably caused the core collapse.
and then there's N's flashback upon finding the Zombie Drones training videos. which, uh. i'll update after i get home tomorrow and do a frame-by-frame analysis.

thinking about how ronance should play out in st5 again!
okay so hear me out... robin and vickie have a little moment and like they kiss.. but robin makes it all awkward and realizes that maybe she doesn't have feelings for vickie anymore and pulls away and is like "shit im sorry"!!!!
and then vickie just laughs it off and quickly scrambles away... giving robin a moment to process her feelings. and then like like next scene or interaction with nancy she like very obviously registers it and yaps to steve about it and steve is obviously very put down but not that bad because he wants his best friend to be happy! and he gives her such a like pep talk and like idk and hes like "go get em tiger" and robins like "never say that again.. 😟" and then like yeah! robin has a yap session with nancy and then they kiss and live happily ever after!!!

As fun as it could be to see FCG get Reincarnated into a flesh body, I ultimately don't think Sam will go for it.
I also don't think the rest of Bell’s Hells will give up on bringing him back unless it proves impossible. With RAW, they should be able to cast either True Resurrection or Reincarnate to bring FCG back, with the only real condition for failure being that the soul they're trying to call back refuses to return.
So unless Matt decides to impose a different condition to make resurrection impossible, FCG will have to actively decide to leave their friends behind and move on to whatever comes next. Which... maybe feels a little out of character for how devoted FCG is to his friends? Maybe? (Though he's thought about leaving the group before, so maybe I'm wrong.)
I think the easiest way to accomplish this is for the Changebringer to give FCG a new mission on other planes of existence. Especially if it's one that will help his friends on their mission to stop Predathos.
I feel like letting FCG ascend to the status of Celestial Being would be a fitting reward for his heroic sacrifice. It would also open up opportunities for them to keep making appearances in Exandrian canon as a messenger of the Changebringer.
Imagine asking your goddess for assistance in a tight spot, and instead of sending you a terrifying guardian... you get a chirpy little angel that greets you with "Smiley Day!"

Theorizing Pt 1: repression
UP AHEAD: so much rambling about Orange. written very late at night and not the most coherent, sorry. (also, all uses of Thomas are referring to c!Thomas)
okay everyone talks about the dark sides being their opposites, opposing colors, colors on opposite ends of the wheel, but wanna know another term for it? complementary colors. I think the idea of "totally opposing, entirely contrasting, nothing alike" is not really accurate to the lore that we have been given? It's clear that it's important that all sides are accepted, and that there is no "solely good" or "solely bad" trait. Everything has complexities and different aspects to it, and the sides are no different.
I've never been particularly fond of the idea of wrath/anger/cruelty being orange because it seems like a scapegoat? I am more in favor of it representing regret (as most appearances of it are present in scenes or conversations with regret present) [forgot where i saw the theory first :sob:] and passion (impulsive acts based in emotions, a contrast to Logan's character while simultaneously rounding him out and forcing him and thomas to accept the parts that aren't all logical) [theory from @/dillydallydove] as these have more dimension and seem to fill out the gaps in the sides a bit more, especially considering the general theme going with remus, janus, and virgil. These are aspects that Thomas represses, and he knows them by names that aren't really accurate to their full purposes. He knows Janus as deceit, while he is more accurately described as self-preservation. He knows Remus as intrusive thoughts, when he is more accurately described as his repressed creativity. He knows Virgil as Anxiety (which is fairly accurate, though it still minimizes his functions) though he might be more accurately described as caution? fear? an aspect of self preservation? Regardless, perhaps orange could be known as wrath or anger because that's what he manifests as, but that doesn't mean that this is accurate to who he is as an aspect of Thomas. Remus is intrusive thoughts because that is the only way he can get recognized, the only way he breaks through the suppression. Janus is known as deceit because he has to manipulate the other sides to get them to prioritize Thomas's self-interest (as well as his personal responsibility to protect Thomas from what he can't handle at the moment; deceiving himself, sure, but at it's core, preserving his presently fragile mental state).
What emotion, what passion, does thomas repress the most? he's clearly open to expressing love and joy and, more recently, stress and anxiety, even some hints of sadness showing. but what has he been repressing the most? his anger! his frustration! his (and his sides') sense of inadequacy!! Orange is being seen in these contexts because that is what he isn't allowing himself (and the sides) to express as themselves.
Sanders Sides' whole thing is accepting the different parts of yourself, with underlying themes of c!thomas's upbringing causing him to repress, deny, or otherwise have an unhealthy relationship with "bad" aspects of himself (which, boy do i have some ideas for possible explorations of OCD in this, especially with the prevalence of intrusive thoughts- and the ways Thomas and the other sides change their language around Remus to prevent him from "getting ideas"-). Orange could be treated as a character foil to Logan, or Orange could be like Janus, but instead of protecting c!T from things he can't handle, Orange is the result of that suppression. Like how remus formed from thomas (patton) forbidding Roman from having "bad" ideas, orange could be formed from thomas (logan) pushing down "bad" feelings, feelings of passion that don't directly help other people.
Of course, this brings me to how Janus (a "gatekeeper" of sorts for Thomas) would interact with orange. this is reaching more into prediction territory. I suspect that Janus wants orange to emerge, as prolonged repression is harming Thomas (which i'm pretty sure he alluded to at least once, though i'm blanking on when). (also, an aside, is it not concerning that during the christmas special, Janus, c!T's self-preservation, was increasingly inebriated?? ooh and the occasional gags about Logan drinking wine too-) Notice how Janus has been watching Logan? this plus the general willingness to exclude Logan (further pushing his frustration and feelings of inadequacy) makes me suspect that he (as per usual) knows more than the rest.
I... don't really have a conclusion. I think Orange isn't an embodiment of aggression, moreso a result of repression? I guess? And I'm concerned about... yeah everyone involved, but especially Logan and Janus.

hii, i've been rereading both ttsbc and tt and i'm absolutely in love with both, they're amazing, you're easily one of my favorite authors :]
anyway, this might be a bit of a reach but while rereading Everything and More, in chapter 5 the way the director of the biotech institute talks in Zed's memories was oddly familiar (repeating parts exactly three times, the thing with hypotheticals, etc), so here's my current theory: we never actually see the (former) director of the labs die in Bleeding Sweetheart, only that she's injured and fell down into the depths. so imo she's alive, went to the surface, and became the director of the biotech institute (which is essentially what she's been doing before anyway) after her "death". now the last thing she wants is the undercity and the rifts to be researched as she wants them to stay locked down there and for that she needs the current image of hybrids and mutants, hell maybe she's still taking some to be experimented on, you never know. and so we also have a motivation for why the institute is so vehemently against zed's ideas when they seem to know he's right.
i'm probably overthinking this but it was fun to theorise at least lmao
Tumblr media
I'm glad you're having fun theorizing! I'm so honored to hear I’m one of your favorite authors! I absolutely love to see people trying to piece together what's going on in my AUs so thank you so much for sending this my way, I had so much fun reading it! 😁

My property of hate theory(spoiler warning!!)
Something I thought of- just mind wandering thoughts
If you mask yourself with a smile, although the eyes tell the truth, because
"Eyes are the windows to the soul"
Something I've connected just base on design between negative and normal RGB
Because with RGB you really just depends on his mouth to tell what he's feeling, although with negative he shows emotion with his eye since he doesn't have a mouth
you know how negative normally had the back tear thingys going upward last time? However this time it only happened with he was clearly annoyed
I think it has something to do with if what he was feeling was in terms a negative feeling, because the first one he had a lighter screen, and was surprised or confused, the next one his screen darkened when he looked unamused
And last time it was clear they were in some sort of danger too
This might make you see when negative was attempting to grab hero as dangerous or concerning
But two key details we really need to pay attention to
1. his eyes, first it was a lot smaller, but the second one looks a bit bigger, as in less whatever he was feeling at the time
2. negative during fighting stood up straight although with hero he bent down,, his wires were down when fighting but up when he saw hero
I think that indicated he wasn't going to hurt her, he was more or less surprised, plus it's kinda obvious that negative doesn't know what's going on beforehand, he only knows what's going on when he sees it
So this would mean that was the first time negative ever saw hero, or knew about her
It also makes more sense when you notice RGB doesn't remember or know anything when negative is in control, so it's probably that it's the same way with negative
Which in a probability standpoint, he’s not going to hurt Hero, mostly because he definitely could’ve and hasn’t, there's been so many times, each time negative appeared he could have easily hurt hero. And let's not forget about the newest page, hero is literally ON his shoulders
Although well have to wait for the next page to come out!

This is such a fucking crack post But
me and my brother have both been mad obsessed with Resident Evil and shit right, and like he kins Wesker and I kin Leon
so we often joke like “oh haha Wesker and Leon as brothers/best friends turned rivals” and it’s been eating at me so much that Tumblr has to know now too
the possibility isn’t zero.
According to my brother “it’s canon that wesker was just Taken from his real family as a baby so its totally possible”
and we know nothing about Leon’s family (or at least I haven’t looked deep enough to find anything)
what if… just what if it’s so insanely stupid and out of nowhere but What If, Man
Leon and Wesker having known each other at a certain point in their youth or just not knowing about each other at all, unknowingly becoming the opposites of one another in terms of morals and roles in life etc
They have never met face to face, but yet they have such a big rivalry
Just what if it was deeper… what if they were Bros…
^^^ insane crazy should be killed doesn’t know what it’s talking about

this is such an important scene, its sad it was deleted.
the lighting/shadows show that the outside world can see Hannibal's darkness and all the things that make him a criminal, and Will Graham can see the lightness in him, all the things that still make Hannibal a person. While for Will, the world can see the things that make Will a good person, how he just wanted to save people. etc. Then Hannibal can see the dark in him, his murderous aura.
