pro tip: if you think you have adhd then don't start a master's program before you even get a diagnosis (also you need a stronger prescription, you have astigmatism, and reading glasses aren't gonna cut it)

Listening to a podcast discussing conspiracy theories and deconstructing the ideas behind them and it's reminded me of the coolest practical lessons in critical thinking I ever got, both in high school, both from the same teacher. One was a month long project on who killed jfk in which we could basically present any theory as long as we cited all our reasons and it got us really excited about research and interpretation, but it was the follow up that I liked best.
Our next project she brought us into class and showed us a documentary claiming the moon landing was faked. Gave us worksheets to do that sided with that stance. And at the end of class a bunch of us were like miss wait this doesn't seem right?? and she said okay, we'll discuss that next week. The next lesson, she showed us a mythbusters episode countering all the claims of the original documentary and gave us worksheets for that, and another bunch of people went wait miss you can't teach us two opposing things, which one is right? What do we put on the exam??
So she split the class in two and told us each to present a case based on each side, and to explain why our source was or wasn't the more reliable of the two. Got us to debate each other directly and use additional sources to back us up and explain why those sources were reliable and should be believed. And because they were randomly assigned there was no guarantee you'd agree with the stance you were presenting, but you had to present it like you did. At the end of the project she asked us all which stance we found more convincing and why, and the majority of us basically said "we think that the moon landing is real because most of the arguments against it seem like someone reacted to a confusing thing without testing it, but when you test it and ask the person running the test to explain the science it makes sense once you have more information. Also, one documentary was made with the help of scientists with qualifications and experience and the other was made by people who don't have that but like to write mystery books, which looks like a less reliable way to get an answer. But we still dont understand why you showed us both if one is wrong."
And she was like excellent. You've done exactly what you should do. At high school level, we as teachers are expected to filter for the reliable sources for you, so you know to repeat that to pass an exam, but if you want to be historians on your own, I won't be your teacher any more once you graduate. Lots of people have opinions and theories and research about times in history, and it's your job to learn how to look at them and decide who you want to trust. This won't be on the exam, but I need you all to know it. You all did a great job following the school's instructions to repeat information you were given, but for some of you, that information wasn't on a reliable foundation. I know you all know how to pass an exam. You're smart and you've been trained to follow these instructions. What you deserve to be taught is how to use all this once you don't have to do exams any more.
And then as a reward for us doing a good job at figuring out the value of checking your sources' sources she let us watch Bush get hit in the face with a shoe before we had to go to maths. Shoutout to you Ms Hannah you were a good'un I hope you're doing well ten years on from that class

“If you’re not gonna help, then leave my dorm!”
“Ehhhh, hell no! It’s cold as fuck outside; you want me to freeze to death?”
“They’re…still going at it.”
“Yeah…give it a minute, and we’ll just go to the library without them?”
It’s coming down to the last week of January; university students are finally settling in with their new schedules and getting used to the groove of the spring semester. Or some run around trying to keep up with the new semesters and the change of weather already getting on people’s nerves, wanting nothing more than spring to come quickly.
Three weeks in, and you already have stuff to do, one of them being an argumentative presentation assigned by Professor Yaga in your Contemporary Issues class. You and three other people are tasked to find sources for a topic issue you find interesting and then present a discussion-based presentation on two sides of the topic (two people in favor and two people against).
Unfortunately, the groups were to be randomly assigned. Luckily, two friends you knew in the class, Haibara and Ijichi, were picked to work alongside you! However, the bad part was that another person you knew was assigned to work with you, and he happens to be the guy getting on your last nerves right now, sitting on your couch while clicking through the television channels with the remote.
Your roommates weren’t home today. The club fair was occurring at the quad, so Mei Mei and Utahime had to go out and represent their clubs for the afternoon. Shoko is having an intense study session with Geto for an exam on the first of February, so they’re at the library now.
That leaves you alone at your dorm, using this as a perfect opportunity to invite your group over to work on the project.
“You can freeze your nuts off and become the next Jack Frost for all I care; if you’re not going to do your part of the work, get out!”
Well, minus you yelling at your partner, who clicks his teeth before turning to you. His round sunglasses shone from the light reflected from the living room windows.
Satoru Gojo was your number one nemesis within these campus grounds; this was a known fact to everyone, especially the other group members who nervously examined you two bicker. Being in the same space as him is enough to make you wish you could pull your hair out or put him in the nastiest headlock you could do. Worse, being assigned to the same group as him for your project almost made you want to rip your ears off.
But you had to suck it up; at least you were the first group to start a presentation. Better now than worry about it later, right?
“Pssh, fine, I’ll get up and—Oh! Wait, you guys have Digimon on Hulu? Ahhh, sick!”
Nevertheless, you can’t say that when your supposed partner acts like a child glued to your TV screen instead of doing the work he promised to do. You grit your teeth with a twitching brow, “Why you…”
Across from the common area was the kitchen, where Haibara and Ijichi sat at the dining table. The two sophomores could do nothing but feel the tension between you and Gojo grow with every passing second, suffocating the younger duo. Haibara eyes Ijichi from across the table and whispers, “Wanna make a run for it now?”
The black-haired second-year didn’t reply, only a hurried nod before the two grabbed their coats and stuffed their laptops back into their backpacks. The sound of their zippers alerts your ears, turning to them to question, “Huh? Where are you two going?”
Haibara takes it upon himself to deliver a half-lie as he zips up his jacket. “On second thought, Ijichi and I are thinking of taking the shuttle to the library to work instead.”
Huh? The library? Were they leaving because of the belligerence between you and Gojo? God, you hoped not. “Wait, you guys don’t have to do that. I already made you guys walk all this way here; it’d be rough to have you leave for somewhere else…”
Ijichi comes with the assist after putting the sling of his messenger bag around his shoulder. “It’s okay, Y/n. We found material from the library we could use as sources, so we’re heading up there to take some notes while they’re there.”
“Yup!” Haibara exclaims in agreement, and the two walk past you to put on their shoes by the front door. “Maybe you guys can find sources of your own while we’re gone, and then we can converse and share what we found when we come back. Sounds good?”
“I suppose so…” you couldn’t shake the feeling that they were leaving to avoid being in the same room as you and Gojo. The guilt is hard to endure since you didn’t mean to make the younger boys uncomfortable. “See you guys, then.”
“Cya!” And with that, the door closes on their way out, leaving you and Gojo alone in your apartment.
Well, this is just great; you’ve driven your group members and friends away and are now stuck with the nuisance of a partner who still keeps his attention on the television. It takes everything in your power not to pop a vein. But with one calm breath, you steady yourself and stand tall.
You walk in front of the TV, blocking it from Gojo’s view. The white-haired boy throws his hands up in exasperation, but you couldn’t care less. “What’s the big idea?” He questions you as if he has a right to at this moment.
You cross your arms across your chest with narrow eyes. “Haibara and Ijichi just left.”
“Uhh, yeah, I heard the door,” he maneuvers his body to try and see the children’s show blocked by your figure. “Doesn’t have to do with me—“
“It does have to do with you.” You interrupt him, taking two steps and bending to stare him down. Your face is a foot away from his. “You’re supposed to be here to work with Haibara on the ’no’ part of the argument while me and Ijichi do our part. You’ve only been here for thirty minutes, and the only thing you’ve done successfully is take off your shoes at the door and read your manga books on the couch.
Gojo chuckles – oh, how you hated his laugh – as he puts his hands behind his head, spreading his long legs from their crossed form. “You heard them, no? They’re going to research on their own and then come back. Besides, you know I’m not one to start stuff right away. I’m a procrastinator, remember?”
“You’re annoying; that’s what you are.” You straighten up with a heavy sigh.  God, I wish Utahime and Shoko were here. They’d help me out with this white garbage…
“Ahhh, lighten up, Y/n. It’s not like the presentation is on Monday; we got until Friday to come up with everything.”
“Yeah, I’m aware of that, smartass. And you’re right: I do know you. And I know you tend to do things at the last fucking minute. But not this time!” You watch him try to put his feet up on the coffee table, and you quickly intervene by kicking them off.
“Tch. Look, you knew what you were getting into being partnered with me. And relax; those two said they’ll be back to discuss the material later. They already left – nothing I can do about it.”
Your hands rest at your hips, tapping your foot with visible frustration. “Oh? And I wonder why they left in the first place, Gojo. Mind telling me how?”
He quirks up a brow with a smug grin — a telling sign that you’d get ticked off with whatever he’s about to say. “I don’t know, Y/n. Why not ask the nagging control freak talking to me right now, huh? Maybe their short height and angry temper are affecting the mood of those around them to be miserable like them.”
You almost did it — your hands nearly gave into your intrusive thoughts and were about to lunge at the snow-haired guy’s neck to wring around like a rag doll. But you played it off with a clap, rubbing the palms together to distract your temporary violent thoughts.
You sucked your teeth and turned on your heel. “Forget it. I’m gonna go take a nap.”
He scoffs, “Good, maybe your tiny brain needs it to calm down.”
“Choke and die, Gojo!” You say down the hall, already at the door of your shared bedroom. Before slamming the door shut, Gojo’s patronizing laughter can be heard to your dismay. With gritted teeth, you march to your bed to throw yourself on the mattress.
“Ughhh. That Satoru Gojo,” you curse his name under your breath as if he’d hear you through the walls. “So unserious…”
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
To be quite honest with himself, Gojo doesn’t necessarily hate you.
The white-haired boy lies on his side on Utahime’s bed, watching you nap. He did knock on the door – believe him, he did. He even gave you the good old ten-second rule, waiting for your response. But then you didn’t, which gave him the initiative to waltz in and see you in your slumber.
You slept so peacefully; your face at peace, and your faint snores were the only things his ears picked up on. It was as if your little nagging show from earlier was hard to comprehend when seeing your tranquil state in front of him. It used to be rare to see you like this. Keywords: used to be.
For the past two to three weeks, your relationship with Gojo has become more…intimate. Ever since he took your first kiss and drew your virgin curtains, the two of you have gotten a little closer than before — both platonically and physically. Something that Gojo never thought he’d experience with you, his tiny, cute frenemy.
Gojo has known you since freshman year; you were two in the same enrichment group to prepare you to transition into college life. Personally, he wasn’t much for the program; he found it a waste of time, a mandatory prerequisite that he felt he didn’t need. He’s all about experience, wanting nothing more than to get on with his day, go to classes, hang with friends, and repeat.
“Hello, my name is Y/n. It’s nice to meet you all!”
And then came you, the person sitting across from him at the round table your group would always meet at. He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t enamored by you the second he saw you. Gojo rarely finds someone who could easily pull his eyes to them — not saying the girls who’d usually crowd and admire him weren’t pretty. There was something about you that kept him wanting to know more – to engage more – about you.
One thing he knew from you was that you carried your character with pride. Your achievements, your personality, your kindness, and your mannerisms — all of which were displayed elegantly and were a breath of fresh air to look at. You stood out to him more than all the other kids in the group, his eyes always finding a way to steer from the professor’s advice to your alluring, listening face.
Another thing Gojo liked about you was that you weren’t afraid to stand your ground, especially when discussing with your peers or him. Sure, you were always respectful and would respect other people’s arguments. But, God, the way you said things so constructed and nuanced, it had the tall other glued to you whenever you spoke.
He’s not going to lie; he’ll admit that he’d try to tick you off and get you to get a little angry with him when it came to arguing. He couldn’t help it. He just liked the thought of you layering out of your poised appearance to the point you’d glare at him whenever you saw him in the halls. And it had him giddy knowing he’s the one that made you angry because you looked cute.
And that was the other thing he really liked about you. The more you two interacted, argued, hung out with his friends, or attended classes together, the more Gojo’s fascination for you turned into that of a school-boy crush. He wouldn’t admit to anyone of this (minus Geto and Shoko if his life depended on it) because it certainly wasn’t something to be known. He was okay with what you two had right now, being the friend who loves to push your buttons to see you nag at him.
That was until you two started sleeping together. Because holy fuck, the past weeks you two have been sneaking time to have each other’s bodies close made Gojo’s mind go crazy. So fucking crazy like the feeling of you on him is borderline addicting. Your whiny cries calling out to him when he scrapes your sweet spots, your nails scrape on his chest, your half-lidded eyes when you look at him, or how you whisper his name only for him to hear.
This was the kind of relationship you two brewed, a secret thing only between you two. And Gojo was satisfied keeping it like this because it was what you wanted. No need to flaunt it around; it was no one’s business. Besides, he likes having you to himself, seeing a side of you that only he could imagine and experience.
The sensations of your body under his touch, the various tunes of your voice, and the beauty exhibited in your gaze. It was all addicting. You were addicting.
“Who told you to lie on my roommate’s bed? You know she’ll kill you if she ever saw you.”
It was so addicting that he didn’t even notice you awake until you spoke to him, the erotic memories of you clouding his brain dissipating at the indication of your voice. He smirks, “Oh, I’ll be fine; not like she can hurt me with her tiny self.”
You’re too groggy to roll your eyes, sighing as you turn to your side to face him from across the room. “How long was I out for?”
“Almost an hour,” he replies, switching to sit criss-cross on Utahime’s bed. “I got bored watching TV and knocked.”
“How long have you been in here?”
“Maybe twenty minutes?”
“Just watching me sleep?”
“Yeah.”
You let out a scoff, shaking your head. “Weirdo.”
He snickers at you for recognizing his silliness. “Whaaat? There’s not much to do aside from looking at you. I got bored of the TV.”
“What about your manga?”
“Got bored of that, too.”
“Anyone on your socials that you’d wanna talk to? Girls? Friends? Your teammates?”
“Mmm, nah, none I’d wanna talk to right now.”
Your brows furrowed. “What do you mean?”
“Hmm?”
“What do you mean ‘right now’? You make it seem like I’m keeping you from interacting with your outside life. If you’re bored, talk with whoever you want. Maybe bother Geto…No, nevermind, he’d probably be annoyed since he’s studying.”
Gojo examines you, silently removing himself from your roommate’s bed and treading towards yours. He takes off his sunglasses and places them on top of your dresser before sitting on his knees on the floor. He rests his hands and chin on the edge of your bed, his sky-blue eyes locked in with yours. God, you were so beautiful to look at.
“I meant that I don’t want to talk to anybody.” Now that he’s closer to you, his voice dials to a whisper. “Not when I got you here to myself.”
He notices your brows drawing upward at the sentence. “To yourself?”
“Mhmm,” he hums, bringing a forefinger to trace your brow. A sensual touch not to startle you. “Just you and me.”
You give him a look as if you think he’s trying to pull something. “Don’t tell me you were making me mad at you earlier just so Haibara and Ijichi could leave, and I’d be stuck with you.”
His smile broadens with every word, his dimples out to see. “No, although I hate that I didn’t think of that myself.” His hand goes to your cheek for his thumb to stroke gently. “Would it have been a bad thing if I did?”
You don’t reply, only placing your hand on his. Your eyes are still on his blue orbs, and – you don’t know this because Gojo has the perfect view of you – the light from the window made them shine charmingly as it highlighted your face.
“No…I don’t think so,” you murmur, gaze gradually venturing down to his lips. “I like being around you…Satoru.”
He heard his name leave your lips, an invitation to what he wants to do, his eyes fixated on your lips before closing them and drawing in closer. “Me too…”
The kiss was soft and gentle like he always starts with, waiting for you to give him the okay to kiss you again. And when you meekly lick his bottom lip, he gives in to your request and claims your lips again.
Your moans were so sweet to his ears — his favorite thing to hear — especially when he becomes a little devilish and sucks on your tongue to make you whimper a little louder, turning him on even more. It serves as the perfect distraction for him to snake a hand into your shirt, his hand already making itself home and cupping your breast in your bra.
You break the kiss with a gasp, and massages to your mound make your breath shaky. “Mmmah…you sneaky pervert,” you name-call him sweetly.
“Can’t blame me; I just know that you like to have your tits played with.” Gojo sneers, tweaking your nipple to hear you gasp again. “Hey, remember you said you’d suck me off next time?”
“Huh?” The question threw you off before you could fall deeper into a euphoric haze.
“Don’t ‘huh’ me, you promised!” He whines to you like a hurt puppy. “After I ate you out for twenty minutes straight last time, can I just have your mouth on my dick once?”
“I never told you to eat me out for twenty minutes!”
“You crying and telling me not to stop said otherwise!” He stands his argument, even if you warn him with a glare. “Just suck it, please. I haven’t felt your mouth in a while.”
Oh, for fuck’s sake. You didn’t expect to deal with his childish tendencies, but it is Gojo we’re talking about. You sigh, “…Fine, Satoru.” And then the white-headed boy beamed at the confirmation, immediately standing up and heading to your desk. It was an abrupt change of pace for a second until he brought your desk chair out.
With glee, Gojo flings his jeans and boxers with ease, his half-hard cock out for you to see. He sits on your chair with spread legs, “I’m ready~.”
You roll your eyes, yet the smile on your face sneaks without you knowing while leaving your bed and crouching between his legs. “You’re such a big baby sometimes…”
Your hand finds its way to the body of his dick, gliding it up and down to feel the veins under your palm and fingertips. Gojo hums to your cold fingers, hitching his breath when you tease him with a blow of air.
Your free hand comes to his balls, massaging his testicles in a way that has his leg jerk. He tries to fight it, but the squirm on his legs says otherwise. “Hahhh, fuck…quit it…”
“Hmm? What, you don’t like it when I tease you?” You peer up at him with a smug grin before using your tongue to lick on the glans slowly, and he covers his mouth before a gasp comes out after lapping on his frenulum. “But when you do it to me, it’s not a problem, huh?”
“Mmmph, shiit, Y/n—Ohhh…!” Another jolt of the hips after you lick and kiss one of his balls, teasing the skin with a kiss and tiny chews that would have him choke on his breath. “Jesus, fuck! Y/n, baby, you’re driving me crazy….Aishhh!!
“Oh, really?” God, you were such a fucking tease. But he fucking loved that so much. “What should I do?” You ask him before sucking on his balls again, and a hand comes to your shoulder to grip.
“Mmmm…Blow me off, princess,” shivers crawl up his spine as you place kisses from the base of his cock towards the tip. “Please, I wanna feel you…”
You giggle at his reply, finally taking in his cockhead to your pretty lips and sighing through your nose as you hollow your cheeks to take in more of him.
Gojo sighs at your licks and sucks on his girth, his erection becoming accommodated to your oral cavity wonderfully. You unhurriedly prompt yourself to take in more of him until your lips reach his pubes, your throat now full of him, and the warmness of your gummy walls makes him squirm more.
Bobbing your head at a moderate pace, you suck him off to that of a pleasurable cadence. You still use your hands to stroke him, Gojo melting to your touch even more. He throws his head back when you attack his tip again with the onslaught of licks and laps, the hand on his balls roughly kneading them jerks him to moan aloud.
Fuck, it feels so fucking good having you suck him off like this. How your tongue moved up and down on him was so dangerous, prompting him to place a hand on your head for support. As if that would help, you don’t show him mercy when you suck him harder and faster. The noises coming from your mouth sounded so erotic and pornographic, the heat on his face brewing out more.
“—Khhmm, fuck, man, I can’t…Ahhh! Y/n, I’m gonna cum if you keep licking it like that. Stop, st—Ahhaaa!!”
But like he said before – you’re a tease (if not worse than him). You remove Gojo’s dick from your mouth and throat at once, the groan he exerts fueling the fire in your body. You stand to withdraw your shirt, bra, and panties to the ground, knowing Gojo’s watching every move. “Don’t get mad at me; I know how much you wanna cum inside.”
You pull out the condom from the pocket of your skirt, placing the rubber on his cock after removing it from the wrapper. He couldn’t help but laugh, “Seems like you’re more of a pervert than me if you had that ready while those two were here earlier.”
“Shut up,” you playfully kiss him with a sneaky bite to his bottom lip. Then, you mount and align your cunt on his dick, the glans kissing your wet labia. “Hmmm, fuck…”
“Relax, cutie,” he kisses you on the cheek while his hands fondle your breasts.
You slowly descend your slit onto him, the tip of his cock pushing into the entrance of your vagina. A couple of exhales and inhales keep you steady when inserting him into you, not letting the pain distract you from the task at hand. And the both of you moan in unison when it makes it in, your hips leisurely coming down on him until your ass rests on his thighs.
You grind on him with the roll of your hips, evoking choked intakes of air from him as a hand goes to your ass with vigor. His face to your chest while the other hand plays with one mound. His lips found a nipple to pop into his mouth to suck on.
With a slow pace, you rock your hips onto him. Your legs bent for your feet to be on his knees, the chair solid enough to withstand you bouncing on Gojo’s dick with repetition.
“Hoohhh, ohhhh, mmmm,” your hums are expressed in tunes. The curve of his cock is so fucking good, scraping your insides with precision. You couldn’t help but increase the speed just a little bit.
Gojo keeps sucking on your nipple; the grazes of his teeth and pushing the bud up to the roof of his mouth only fuels more quivers to travel down your bouncing figure. Both of his hands now under your skirt to feel the flesh of your ass under his hungry grasp. He kneads your asscheeks with every thrust to your chasm, and your shrieks get louder by the second.
“—Mmmph! Shit, shit, you feel so good, pretty,” he finally lets go of your hardened nipple, burying his face to your chest. “So fucking good for me…fuhuuuucck!
You could feel your cunt contract around him; every graze to your sensitive spots prompted your walls to grip around him. He hisses, looking up to see your expression as you ride him out. Fuck, you looked so good on top of him like this. He’ll add this position to the list of things to do again with you.
You peer down to see that Gojo is staring at you, and you quickly bring a hand to cover his eyes. “—Ahhahhn, d-don’t look at me like that! Yer soo embarrassing…!”
He only chuckles at your shy demeanor, especially during this. But he humors you, not fighting your makeshift blind for him to see you wholly. He’s seen it all already — felt it all, too. And he could never get enough.
“Ooooh, Satoruuu—Nnaaahh!” He loves how you say his name, your hand traveling to his hair to grab in tuffs. “Oh, fuck, ‘toruuu, I’m gonna cummm…!”
“—Hnngh! Yeah, baby?” Oh, he knows. The way you’re grinding to and fro on his pelvis tells him so. “Go ahead, princess. Clench on me and ride it out.”
And with that, your hips go to an erratic pace that has the both of you holding for dear life. The squeeze of your inner walls clenching on him almost makes him choke on his spit, the nails of his fingertips forming crescents on your skin. And you scream at it, slamming your ass onto him as you both climb up to orgasm.
Within seconds, it hits the both of you like a train. This had to be Gojo’s favorite part of the entire thing, experiencing having your folds clamp and flutter around him as you cry for him. It took everything in his power not to come with you because he wants to have you on him a little longer. You just felt too good to let go — too addicted to your body to be done with one round.
When the contractions subside while your slurred howls get quieter, Gojo gives you a few minutes to let your body be free from the aftershocks. He knows your body is extra sensitive now, rubbing circles on your back and placing chaste kisses on your clavicle. You hum under his lips, letting the wave of your crescendo exude out from you quietly.
However, since you wanted to be such a tease, why not be a tease back? At least, that’s what Gojo thought before he threw your cunt another snap of the hips, his cock jabbing into your delicate walls that haven’t recovered yet. A sharp cry comes from your puffy lips, the hand covering Gojo’s eyes finally freeing him to see you.
He grins with hooded azure eyes, “Sorry, cutie, but I didn’t get to finish. Wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t get to have fun of my own, right?”
You chew on your lip with trenched brows before bringing your face to his. “Don’t you get carried away like last time, Satoru.”
“No promises, princess~” he sings to your ear before humming into your lips.
As mentioned before, Gojo doesn’t hate you — he just hates that he can’t fully express liking you.
But having you on top of him like this, in his embrace, is a nice change of pace he’ll happily get used to.
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ───
“Okay, everyone, class dismissed! Thank you for your time, and see you all on Friday.”
Professor Naga closes up the last class for today, and the students all get up from the seats of their elevated rows to pack up and leave. The clock is ten minutes before seven o’clock, the winter darkness already claiming the sky with a sheet of night. Students are either famished and heading to the dining hall for food, going straight to their dorms or homes, or staying behind for last-minute conversations.
Gojo was one of the latter, deciding to stay behind to chat with the group for a bit. After packing his backpack and putting on his coat, he slings from the table to jump to the row below him, where you were talking with Haibara and Ijichi.
You watch his stunt, ready to lecture, “Jesus, Gojo, what’s all that for? You could’ve just walked around.”
“Ehhhh, why would I do that? That’s so lame.” He comes and bends close to you enough to slang his arm around your shoulders.
But you click your teeth and try to maneuver away from his tall figure. “You’re lame,” you mutter under your breath.
However, Gojo’s ears perked with furrowed brows. “What did you say?”
“You heard me, you lame white furby!” You repeat yourself with a huff and the snow-haired student gawks at your brazenness.
The two of you argue again; students passing by silently exit the class, others stand and watch, and Professor Yaga can only sigh at yet another altercation between you two.
However, it quickly dissipates when Haibara laughs from his seat. “You two, there’s never a dull moment.”
You and Gojo blink at the dark brunette before removing Gojo’s hand from your shoulders. “Hmph, it’s not like it’s my fault; he’s the one who starts it.”
“Oh, what could I possibly do to make Y/n so upset with me this time?” He pushes up his sunglasses, snickering at the scowl you send him.
Ichiji, being the passive second-year he is, meekly changes the topic from the row below you three. “On some brighter news, at least we did well on the presentation.”
“That’s right!” Haibara happily agrees with the statement, leaning against the chair with his hands behind his head. “Professor Yaga seemed really pleased with our arguments; I don’t think he intervened even once. Plus, he said many good things about how we handled the topic. Nice one, team!”
The raven-haired one hums at the other’s exclamation. “I think most of it goes to how Y/n and Gojo bounced off each other’s arguments. How you two pulled up examples from the articles yet remained dignified with your viewpoints was cool to witness. I even saw some students be engaged with the conversation, many amazed with how Y/n refuted Gojo’s arguments elegantly and respectfully.”
But most of all, what the two sophomores wanted to mention was that there was no yelling. To them, the professor, and all the students of this class, you and Gojo presented your presentation without a single tone of malice, no pointless teasing, no name-calling, nothing! It was a civil conversation between two opposing sides. To everyone’s surprise — and thankful stars — today was a success.
You chuckle nervously at the praise. “Oh, come on, you two, don’t let me and Gojo take all the credit. You guys did your part. Especially you, Ichiji; you were an exceptional help for my side and finding sources I could build off from.”
Gojo, on the other hand, rolls his eyes. “Psssh, don’t butter them up like that; without us, they would’ve failed this presentation big time. No offense.” He was forced to say that when you called him by his last name and hit him with your elbow.
None taken, the two younger friends say to themselves unbeknownst to each other.
The tall one continues, “Besides, you were the one who did most of the work. I slacked off until the last minute when you whipped me into shape.” Gojo brings his hand on top of your head for a pat. The action surprised you enough to flinch a bit. “Nice work like always, Y/n.”
Were the stars aligned differently, or did Gojo just compliment you? It certainly took you aback, especially the two others who silently kept their observation to themselves.
You could only look at his complacent look for a few seconds before you realized the warmth of your cheeks became stronger. Averting your eyes, you remove his hand from your head. “Thanks, Gojo…” you express gratitude. “You weren’t so bad yourself.”
A cheeky smile, his dimples prominent to blind you. “Awww, would you two look at that? They’re complimenting me, too~” Another bump to the chest has him cackling like a child, and you shake your head with rolled eyes.
The two younger students observe the scene before Haibara forcibly stretches and yawns to catch the two’s attention. “Man, I’m so hungry; I skipped lunch to prepare for this presentation. Me and Ijichi are gonna meet up with Nanami at the dining hall. You guys wanna come?”
You instantly beam at the proposal; who are you to refuse a dinner with your friends? “Sure! I’d love to…Oh! Wait, let me use the restroom and fill my water bottle.”
You rummage through your backpack for your water bottle before exiting the classroom. The boys watch you descend from row after row, and Gojo says, “Don’t take too long; I’ll convince them to leave without you.”
“Hmph, go ahead and try! They invited me; I don’t know who told you to invite yourself.” You stick your tongue out at him before opening and closing the door behind you.
Gojo watches you with a smile still plastered on his face for a few seconds before Ijichi makes a tiny cough to catch his attention, the sunglasses-wearing junior turning to look back down to the other two. He notes the albeit cheesy-smiling faces they harbor, and he lifts a brow. “The hell are you two smiling for?”
The raven-haired sophomore squeaks at the sudden firm tone, “N–Nothing!”
“Pfft, oh come on, Kiyo; let’s not act like we didn’t see what we just saw.”
Gojo catches the nuance of Haibara’s comment. “Saw what?”
“You’re over here talking about our faces, but you’re the one who’s smiling at Y/n as they leave the door?” The brunette sophomore sends a wink to his junior, whose face doesn’t change at the comment.
“And your point is?”
“Well, it seems — to me, at least —  there might be something going on with you and Y/n?”
Gojo was prepared for that, opening his mouth to interject quickly. However, the dark-haired other beat him to the punch. “Now that you mention it, Gojo and Y/n have been kind of…stable? There's still the usual arguments, but those haven't happened as much since last week…”
“Right!?” Haibara points at Ijichi with exclamation, making the other second-year flinch. “For some reason, things seem to be a little quieter with the two of them now, not to mention them hanging out way more often. Everyone’s been talking about it; even Geto and Shoko asked if Gojo had done anything that made Y/n passive?”
“I asked Nanami about it on Monday; he thinks maybe Y/n finally knocked some sense into Gojo’s childish brain to have him be so civil to engage without yelling their head off.”
“Pffthaha, I wouldn’t go that far. Y/n did just kick him in the shin yesterday for scaring them from behind.”
“Ahh, yes, well, that was deserved.”
“You two realize I’m still standing right the fuck here, right?” No, they hadn’t because the two discerned the twitch of Gojo’s brow after conversing about the tall, white-haired boy.
“But it’s true!”
Another voice enters the set, making Gojo raise his head, and the other two turn to their left. It was some girl and her friend. Gojo knew of her; she sat next to him during class. Again, he knew of her, meaning she had no significance to his knowledge.
And yet, she speaks to the three boys. “You and Y/n have gotten a lot more close these past weeks compared to previous semesters—“
“Real close, too!” Their friend adds on from behind. “It’s as if you two are like a couple.”
“So…Are you two….a thing?”
Gojo could tell from a mile away what this was. Obviously, the first girl has a thing for him — he can see the anxiousness from the twiddle of her thumbs and avoidant eye contact. Although he wasn’t interested, he couldn’t even answer the question the way he wanted. What the hell could he say: that you two are in a secret relationship? He knows you’d have his grave ready before he could finish that confession.
And he can’t say the two of you are in any relationship either; it’s not what you would’ve told them. To everyone else, you and Gojo are friends who would preferably be caught dead rather than lying in bed together. So, might as well keep that facade up.
“Not that it’s any of your business,” he starts with the push of his sunglasses. “Y/n is a pretty good friend, and I’d like to keep it at that.”
Haibara and Ijichi turn from Gojo to look at each other and shrug. Before turning back, something caught their eye that caused the two sophomores’ skin to turn white.
Ijichi tries to prevent Gojo from speaking further. “G-Gojo—“
However, the tall one doesn’t listen. “I mean, sure, they got a nice personality and are independent…Kinda pretty, too, not gonna lie. But they’re not really my type. I mean, have you seen them? Just a little person who likes to find trivial stuff to yell at me over. Angry at the world around them, I’d say.“
“Go. Jo.” Haibara says the junior’s name through gritted teeth, bringing his hand up by his neck and drawing an imaginary horizontal line back and forth — a gesture for Gojo to not say anymore. But unfortunately, the sign wasn’t seen, and the words kept pouring out.
“And to be honest, can you imagine? Me and Y/n, a couple? Jesus Christ, that would be fucking exhausting to deal with, especially with someone so boring and too uncute like them. I’ve seen prettier, been with better. I feel sorry for the poor bastard who does end up with them—“
“SATORU GOJO!”
Now — that sudden burst of yell from a loud, masculine voice — that was what got Gojo’s attention. It’s what got the attention of everyone else in the room. The snow-haired student jerks to look at the professor standing at the front, the older man with a deep frown. “What?
The professor doesn’t answer him. Instead, he points to the left of him with his chin with a huff. With common sense, Gojo turns behind him to see where the older man points. And at that moment, he felt his very being drop to the soles of his feet. Haibara and Ijichi took a slow breath in unison at the immediate tension.
Behind him stood you, a lone figure holding their water bottle within three arm’s length away from the group. But that was sufficient enough for you to have heard everything said.
Breathing suddenly felt impossible for Gojo; his entire body was stiff under your gaze. His shades could hide his eyes, but he wasn’t sure it could shield the instant shame that slapped him across the face from you.
And that was another thing: the look you harbored was indecipherable — the true definition of disengagement. There were no widened eyes, quivering lips, or shaky hands. You stood plainly and looked as though you were detached from the entire situation. And that was what scared him the most.
This was strike one.
He dared not move when you began walking up, and your eyes then shifted to ignore his presence. “Hey, Yu,” the brunette straightened his posture at the use of the first name. “I think I’ll have to decline on that dinner offer. I’m a little tired and have a paper I need to work on…Maybe next time?”
“Uhh, yeah, sure, no problem.” He answers with a sweat.
Wait a second. Gojo tries to call for you, “Y/n—“
“Ijichi,” but you immediately shut him down and directed your attention to the other sophomore friend as you put on your coat and stuffed your water bottle back into your bag. “Be sure to submit the presentation template and sources to the course site before the end of the day, please.”
“U–Uhh, already done, Y/n.” He squeaks while reassuring.
Wait, please. The tall one tries again, “Wait, Y/n—“
“Good.” You sling your backpack on, refusing to look at the person trying to talk to you. “Well, I’ll be seeing you, then.” And with that, you turn on your heel and head down the row to leave.
No, wait, stop— “Y/n, wait!” This was strike two.
Gojo doesn’t hesitate to call out to you. At that moment, he follows you to the class steps where you were a row down left from the door. He grabs your hand without thinking, the size of your palm captured by his slender fingers. He knew it was a risky move, but he had to — he had to get you to talk with him right now, if not ever. Because the latter is something he isn’t ready for, something he didn’t think would be a possibility.
And yet, he will learn this lesson of being prepared for the impossible when you rapidly turn to him. Strike three.
SLAP!
Have you ever seen someone get smacked in the face so hard that their sunglasses come off? The remaining two girls who witnessed it know for sure now. Haibara and Ijichi won’t admit to it as they immediately turn to the other side of the room when they saw your hand move. But please believe they winced at the sound of the impact. The same goes for Professor Yaga, who was too stunned to speak, yet it was a valid outcome.
Gojo didn’t move a single limb, allowing the stinging feeling on his cheek to course through his facial muscles. His eyes were glued to the carpeted ground; he knew that’s where they were supposed to be. And you snatched your hand away from his grasp, leaving his fingers to suffer in forced loneliness.
“You…you think it’s all fun and games to say stuff like that when I turn my back for a few minutes, huh?” He can see your hand palpitate from his peripheral; the anger depicted alone was enough to interpret. And the tremble in your voice? It felt like an arrow to his being. “…Look at me.”
He’d be a fool to have you repeat yourself; he has lost that right to toy with you now. With a slow inhale, Gojo rotates his head at you, azure eyes tracking up your figure to your face. And when it lands at that destination, his heart is shot down.
Tears stream down vexed, watery eyes. Your brows furrowed, and your bottom lip chewed in a terrible attempt to stop it from quivering. The rise and fall of your shoulders as you moderate your breathing, trying so hard not to let your temper dwell into a deeper phase of ugly. It was bad enough you’re crying in public, in front of your peers, your teacher — and it was because of him.
“From this day forward,” you fight your sniffles to say your statement as clearly as possible. “Don’t you ever talk to me, Satoru Gojo. Enjoy your life without something as boring as me.”
And with that, you dismiss yourself from him and the class altogether, the room silent even after the slam of the door closed. No one says anything, too shocked from the event to utter a letter.
The silence aids the ringing in Gojo’s ears, his breathing still having trouble maintaining a balanced front. The cheek you slapped burned with pain; he’s sure the skin is as red as a cherry.
Oh, fuck.
He brings a hand to his face, his body fighting the trembling. The ringing in his ears worsens, along with the pounding in his head that beats like a drum. His eyes stuck to the ground below him, choosing to focus on something inanimate and not living.
Fuck, fuck, fuck—
All he could think of in this time and place was you. Memories flashing right before him, of you and only you. He can hear the way you say his name, both in vexation and in sweet tunes. Your smiles, your frowns, your huffs, your whispers. When your eyebrows scrunch whenever you express worry for him, how you’re never afraid to stand up against him when making a point, the smile that’s been blinding him for many days and nights — the smile he wouldn’t mind seeing for eternity.
All those memories were one stab to his heart after another. And every time a recollection ended, a flash of your crying face would return to haunt him. Tears that weren’t meant to be there but were, and warm feelings you expressed with him were gone the moment he saw your eyes void of feelings for him. At least, that’s what he saw.
He hurt you. That was the only revelation that haunted him where he stood, making his voice falter from confidence. It was a revelation he never meant to bring about. And now that it exists and he sees the damage, nothing would be better for him now than the ground beneath him swallowing him whole.
“What…the fuck…”

are ya gonna give credit to the art teacher you're stealing from or... (it's one thing to post exercises from like, Andrew Loomis, but a whole class from a living teacher?)
This is a reasonable question and I've clarified some things in the pinned post blog that I created for that project.
I've taken several introductory drawing classes over the years and am very familiar with basic drawing courses. I'm not going to be duplicating any of the professor's materials, lectures, or assignments and will be modifying the projects that we're given each week for people who will have less time to dedicate to an art class or who might not have the same materials.
What I may be taking from the professor is the sequence of the class, but as I've discussed extensively in the past, the sequence of an introductory course of learning is not really something that can be copyrighted and is often something that has been in use by the discipline for a long time for good reasons (for instance, starting with pencil before moving onto ink is nearly universal in beginning art classes). I will be adding some things that the professor has not addressed in the class that are things I picked up in various classes over the years (things like "do warm-ups" and "here's how to stretch your hands" and "here's how different hardnesses of pencils work" that are also not things that I think are unique enough to attribute to a single teacher), and I will not be duplicating any of the professor's original lectures, slides, assignments, or work.
And, if it's any comfort, so far half of our technical lectures have consisted of videos by other art professors uploaded to youtube. That makes it pretty hard to feel like I'm plagiarizing someone's work.

Daily Check-in September 7th, 2023 🎀
Today was...not the most productive day for me if I'm being honest. When I'm using my Ipad to video call my boyfriend, I can't take notes like I want to, so I end up feeling like I'm behind on my homework. I'm genuinely thinking about buying a second Ipad to keep my personal life and academic life separate. I have a 2nd Ipad, but it's with my boyfriend, 1000+ miles away. My university sells one online for 300$ USD so I might buy it when I get paid next week.
🩷 What I Ate Today -
Breakfast - leftover burritos with taco bell Diablo sauce
Lunch - spicy ramen with shredded fiesta blend cheese
Dinner - McDonald's
Snacks - one mint choco chip yasso bar, two cups of coffee with creamer
Not my healthiest eating day but I have been incredibly stressed so I turned to easy, greasy comfort food though all its done is upset my stomach. Tomorrow will be better.
🩷 Personal Habits/Goals I Achieved -
nightly skincare routine
studied Japanese for 10ish minutes
took out my bedroom trash
made a workout plan for the week
made a goal setting plan for working out
got in touch with one of my two assigned registered dietitian mentors
got my three week grown acrylics soaked off professionally
I'm hoping to implement the workout routine tomorrow, but I want to take it slow ish because I'm still recovering from a back injury and whiplash from last week so fingers crossed I don't irritate the injury! Also, I'm super excited to be a dietitian mentee. The one dietitian I'm in contact with currently is absolutely the sweetest!
🩷 Academic Achievements -
finished my Fitness For Health and Sport module 3 notes
posted my discussion post and one classmate response for the same course
completed and passed the module quiz for the same class
completed and passed my Food Fundamentals Chapter 5 Quiz
planned for the next few upcoming days
My job has me scheduled for ~35 hours Friday thru Monday, so I am going to be so tired this weekend, but I need the money because I have rent to pay, I want to buy a Genki 1 & 2 Textbook and Workbook + Answer key & hiragana/sentence chart (and some other resources), I want some more stationary, and I need to buy more groceries soon. I am also planning to buy another Ipad, and add some language app subscriptions to my arsenal of language resources for my lazy days.
🩷 Song of the Day - TT Japanese vr by Twice
I love that there are so many Japanese versions of kpop songs that I absolutely love, so this way I can passively listen to the language while enjoying music! There's also a ton of J-pop songs I'm currently in love with. Some of my favorite j-pop artists are liSa, Kenshi Yonezu, YOASOBI, Fuji Kaze, Suda Masaki, Ado, etc.
I did not workout today, I did not do morning skincare, and I did not make my bed. I am planning on getting back on track tomorrow. I appreciate this platform and my followers who help me want to stay on track. I appreciate all 300+ of you <3
Til next time, lovelies 🩷

This project is going to be so bad - Luca Fantilli
a/n: okay this is a first and i’m nervous but whatever. hopefully it’s not too bad
Last year was rough, between the softball season and the demanding major that is Architecture, I was having a hard time balancing all of my work and my mom brought up the valid point that my major shouldn’t stress me out this much in just my freshman year.
After a long discussion with my parents over the summer, I decided to pursue another interest of mine, athletics. While i’m still technically undeclared, i’ve signed up for all the course work for a sports management degree, figuring I can do whatever I want with it in the future. I loved Architecture but it wasn’t working out. Besides, the students in this major are much more my speed than the Architecture students who will gladly spend a Saturday night working on a model over a party at one of the off campus houses.
I had known Luke Hughes last year. We were friendly and often attended the same parties, both of us being athletes. I didn’t really know what to expect walking into my first Sports Law class of the year, but a row of four hockey players turning their heads after Luke called my name was not it. He sent a smile and waved me over “New major, eh?” he asked me.
“New me,” I replied with a smile, I figured most of the boys with him were the new freshman as I only recognized Luke and Dylan.
“Here, take the seat next to Luca, on the end. “
I look at the closest of the boys and am met with the smiliest brown-eyed boy i’ve ever seen. “Hi, I’m Luca,” he said reaching his hand out as I drop my bag on the table in front of my seat. I sit and shake his hand smiling.
“These are some of the new froshes, Luca, Adam, and Rutger.” Luke explains. I smile and peek over towards the door, waiting for MY softball freshman to show up. Seconds later and my new teammate, Claire walks in. I wave her over and by the time class starts the row of us seven we’re getting along just nicely.
Flash forward four weeks and we have our first partner project in the class. We were assigned our table partners and due to the odd numbers, Luca and I were partners, Claire being put with the girl sitting on her other side. “We can try to move things around if you want to be with Claire, I don’t mind.” Luca says with a smile. I snort, “I think I’ll be fine putting up with you for one project Luca.” I respond with a smile. “Do you want to try and knock this thing out sometime this weekend? I’m free whenever.” I ask while we all make our way out to the hallway.
“Hmm yeah, Saturday work?” he says, I nod. “Alright I’ll text you. Have fun at practice, bopper.” A slight blush covers my cheeks at the nickname as Claire and I turn to head towards the Wilson complex for some lifting with the team.
It’s now Saturday, a little bit before noon and Luca has just texted me asking if I wanted to pick up some lunch on my way over to his dorm.
I stop at the cafe on campus and grab two lunches before making my way to Luca’s.
“Hey,” a smiley Luca opens the door before I can even knock. “Oh- hi,” I look up with probably just as big of a smile on my face. “Ready to grind out this project?” he asks.
A smaller smile fills my face “To be honest, I don’t even know what the project is supposed to cover.” I say bashfully.
“Hmm, well I guess we better start then.”
After a grueling one and half hours of explaining things we didn’t understand  to each other, I let out a sigh and flop onto my back across from Luca. “I still don’t understand all of these stupid labor laws. Why are there so many and why does the NCAA have to change them every year!” I let out with a sigh.
Luca chuckles, “Yeah, I think I’m done trying to understand injury protocol. It’s way easier when a coach just tells you you’re out.” Luca sighs.
“This project is going to be so bad. Why’d he even put us in a group together, we have one working brain cell working together.” I mutter.
Luca let’s put a loud laugh, “I don’t mind being partners with you. Makes it fun at least.”
I blush for probably the millionth time that week due to Luca and he smiles over at me.
“Really, I like hanging out with you, it’s a nice break from Adam for sure.” he continues.
“You’re not that bad to hang out with either, Fantilli.” I sit up and close my binder full of notes. Luca looks down at his computer but just stares, as if in thought.
I myself, was only slightly enjoying the view of the boy who’s bed I was currently in. Okay, maybe it wasn’t so subtle.
Luca looks like he’s thinking for a couple more seconds before he lifts his head and catches me. With a soft smile he says, “I like being your friend and all but would you want to go out sometime?” He mutters the last part and I have to lean in to hear him.
“Oh my god, I didn’t know if you were ever going to ask.” I let out a laugh as I nod my head,”Yes, Lu, I’ll go out with you.”
He breaks out in a huge smile before surging forward to kiss my lips. I kiss back immediately. The kiss was soft and sweet but soon turned into teeth on teeth as we both start smiling and giggling. He pulls away and stands up off the bed, taking my hands in his. “Come on, I didn’t even think you’d agree, but I’m sure going to start right away.” He says with his dazzling smile.
“Where are we going? Wait, I need to grab my stuff.” I say as he drags me to where my shoes are by the door.
“Just leave it, we can come back later, I’m taking you out on a date, don’t worry where.” he responds.
I give him a playful side eye as I slide my ugg’s on and walk out with him, hand in hand. “Better not be planning on murdering me or anything like that, Fantilli.”
a/n: let me know what you guys think of this one. i love this story line and could come up with more parts if they’re wanted -soph

What is your opinion of the episodes Confrontation and Collusion? What do you like and dislike about the episodes? What would you change about the episodes?
OH BOY
So I saw the leaks and I just. I've gone on rants on my mainblog. Actually I'm gonna comment on them with the Leaks in mind so if I mix up something that got cut, ignore it.
Let's go!
Confrontation:
First, I think the whole setup is a bit ridiculous. Why is the class fine with Chloé being anywhere near the class president spot again? I forget if she was just the VP to Lila but still. Then there's the paperwork. Why was Marinette the one in charge of filling out this paperwork for everyone? It should be their teacher. Even if everyone's filling it out on their own, why hand it over to the class president instead of Bustier herself or the principal? Why were Lila and Chloé allowed to take the paperwork home with them instead of turning it in at school?
Secondly. The teachers are going to discuss the choices on the paperwork with Lila and Chloé but.... not the students themselves? What?
Thirdly: Why does everyone get their new class assignments now? Like? I know that when I was in school, I got my class schedule the first day of the new school year. Not the last few weeks of the previous year at an entirely different school!
Fourth: Sabrina suddenly has a moral compass???? What the fuck?
Fifth: Nothing will get me past the fact that Marinette committed so much property damage and installed a peep window into the girl's bathroom. That is making me lose my fucking mind. Idc that she wasn't being a perv she was trying to catch two mean girls it's still creepy on principal and who knows who got caught in the crossfire! If I had used that bathroom and later found out it had a hidden peep window I'd feel violated as hell!
sixth: It is so narratively unsatisfying to have Marinette 'win' against Lila by using lies and trickery since the whole thing with them has been about how the Truth Prevails and the Power of Friendship is stronger than her lies!
So yeah. Changes.
Ideally I'd let Chloé keep her character development and have this be just Lila, but we can't have nice things so fuck it.
I'd also like to have Marinette take down Lila by genuinely getting people to see the truth. Like, ya know. Smacking some sense into Alya with "You know I'm Ladybug. Lila claims to be BFFs with Ladybug. I hate Lila because she lies about things. Have you connected the dots yet??????". And other such things where, again, friendship and truthful communication help save the day!
If we have to do this same plot then four things should change.
Have Lila and Chloé steal the paperwork from Bustier's desk and replace it with the forged copies instead of the nonsense of the class president doing the work.
Have Sabrina's change of heart be either genuinely foreshadowed in other episodes of her being redeemed, or have her not care about 'morality' so much as 'Chloé is no longer being her friend, so fuck her and her plans'.
Have the students find out the paperwork was changed, not because they get their schedules way early, but because they're in the meeting to discuss their futures instead of just the teachers listening to Chloé and Lila on their behalf! The duo play dumb with the 'but that's what was written down on your paperwork?' thing whenever the other students panic about it being wrong.
literally anything but the bathroom peep window!!! God DAMN that won't stop bothering me! Just. Just have Sabrina record them! Or have her lure them into an empty room with a laptop and a zoom call going! Anything else!!
Collusion:
BOY FUCKING HOWDY
Chloé manages to trick Bustier into thinking Marinette slapped her and they're brought to the principal's office? Fine whatever.
Bustier, for some reason, begging Chloé to apologize for getting slapped? And attempts to emotionally manipulate her by bringing up confided private things and Chloé's fucked home life in front of the girl who, as far as Bustier believes, just assaulted her? Yeah no girl you deserve to get fired!
Getting Akumatized over being 'unjustly' fired? Okay fine. A little sus that she later just can de-Akumatize herself once she gets what she wants. Like, did you willingly get Akumatized to run the mayor out of office?
Speaking of: LB and CN teaming up with the Akuma(and therefore Monarch) to run the Mayor out of office????? What?????
Chloé being the voice of reason on how that was fucked up and Ladybug immediately attempts an assault with a deadly weapon????
I know it got cut from the episode but Andre declaring a divorce, abandoning Chloé in favor of Zoé who he's known for like 2 months and has little legal rights to have custody of(seriously what does Zoé's dad think?) while saying that Chloé deserves to be abused???? FUCKED UP and I'm not letting it go because TA himself didn't know it was cut until the episode aired!
A 14 year old declares herself mayor and the town is okay with that? Like I'm guessing they don't like her but it's considered totally legal? I guess???
Ways to fix it: You can't. Throw the whole thing out.

Memory is not deduction!
Welcome to another one of Damian's rants, the last one I made got a lot of attention, I hope I can reach as many people with this one. This time we're discussing memory! a very cool topic but also one I've seen misused more times than I can count, some very recently. So here are my two cents on how it relates to deduction and how to use it correctly.
Tumblr media
So anyone that's ever gotten into deduction has at some point heard of amazing memory feats being used in the process, we've all seen Sherlock talk about his mind palace, claiming to know 243 types of tobacco ash, or know the number of a flight that takes off from London that week. Hell, whoever's seen a deductionist do their thing in real life has probably heard them talk about how they've memorized the most common plants from a certain area, or the phone passwords of everyone in their class, and we've all probably assigned more importance to memory than we should've
My theory as to why this happens is simply because when we see anyone deduce, and we see memory being implicated, we latch onto it because it's the most familiar of the two skills at hand. This leads to people developing their memory skills and orienting it towards deduction, and before you know it you've trained a completely different skill and you're getting almost nowhere with your deductions
So the question becomes, what separates the two? why do we see memory be used in deduction so much and how much importance should we actually give it?
Well while memory is very much its own, complex skill, when studying deduction we should treat memory more as a tool than as a discipline. Deduction is, at its core, based on reasoning and logic, and yes, memory can be important when employing reasoning, for example as humans we inform our reasoning by past experiences, which are after all memories, but memory and knowledge mean nothing if we're not able to apply them correctly. On the other hand, just because you don't have the knowledge about something or someone committed to memory, doesn't mean you can't apply logic to gain information and reach conclusions. I may not know 243 types of tobacco ash but I do know tobacco ash means someone's been smoking, I do know smokers take regular breaks from activities to go smoke, I do know smokers can have nicotine stains on their fingers, I know smokers carry packs of cigarettes and lighters, that their smoking gets more intense under stress, and that they can develop an intense, dry cough, all of that is information I know about an individual without ever having a knowledge bank about cigarettes in my head.
So, long story short, deduction is a skill that does not by any means hinge on memory, but that rather can be aided by it, which leads me to my next point: how do we make memory useful?
Imagine downloading the entire internet onto your phone, it sounds cool right? all the information about everything in history, and you can access it on the go no matter what, no data? no wifi? no signal? no problem, you have it all there! It's an exciting concept, but now sit back and think about how much of that you'll actually use, probably not even 10% of that information will be touched 90% of the time, simply because it's just not useful for you. Now in that same vein imagine having a mind palace and filling it with all the crap you can think of, the periodic table, phone extensions for every country in the world, the 100 most common medications, all the countries in the world, and more. Now think about how much of that is actually useful to you, even better, think about how much of that is knowledge you can't get with a 5-second googling session, the answer is almost none of it will be useful to you most of the time and all of it can just be googled.
These are the two most important things to keep in mind when filling a mind palace or memorizing anything:
Is it actually useful for me? don't memorize the phone extensions of every country when most smartphones today tell you what country someone's calling from, plus, again, you can just google it, it takes 5 seconds. To quote one Sherlock Holmes (or at least the BBC version): "ordinary people fill their heads with all kinds of crap and that makes it hard to get to the stuff that matters"
Is it information you can't just google? Look, Sherlock Holmes was written in the 1800s, they didn't have the entire internet in their pocket, having information memorized was basically all they could do to carry it around, unless they wanted to carry bags full of books, tomes, and encyclopedias. You don't have to memorize everything, most information is already in your hand right now
So, for example, I do a lot of chemistry, I don't always have a periodic table with me, and while I do have my phone I have to use information about the elements so often that looking it up actually slows down the process (seriously, I have to work with 3 or 4 different elements and check them multiple times for a single problem or lab calculation, the back and forth on a phone ends up just being annoying). So for me, it's very useful to have the periodic table stored away in my mind palace for easy access whenever I need it (trust me, it's saved me in countless exams)
A final, but definitely not less important point I want to hammer down is this: Make sure you know how to use the information you memorize. Look, I have the periodic table memorized, but I've done it in a very specific way so it maintains its structure in my head, because the place where an element is on the table actually gives you information about it, and this is something not everyone knows. I had a friend who also memorized the table and had no chemistry knowledge, and he did it in a way that was almost useless if he ever wanted to put it in practice, it was quite literally wasted mind palace space.
That's all for this talk, I hope it was useful!
Happy Observing

What are your ideas on what Anne did in between leaving Amphibia and becoming a herpetologist?
oh god never try to answer long asks on mobile i had so many words typed of this and then i saw a rainbow and took a picture of it and when i went back to the tumblr app it was gone 😭 anyway this is a rly cute question here are some ideas (got long so i put it under a readmore)
she gets a new phone since she gave her previous one to sprig. only the old phonecase she has isn't made for her new model of phone. she finds a similar, cat-themed case but, ugh. it just isn't the same.
she joins her school's basketball team. she still plays tennis of course, but she also likes doing a team sport.
she also tries out fencing, but soon tires of it once she realizes that it's forbidden to fight dirty.
she and sasha start dating a little while after marcy leaves. they're together for less than a year when sasha starts to get worried that they might be getting too codependent and that some space could be good for them. anne agrees under the assumption that they'll get back together sooner rather than later, but in high school sasha gets a serious boyfriend. anne is extremely conflicted by this development, and starts distancing herself from sasha. they still talk and hang out and have sleepovers, and they always hang out with marcy whenever she comes to LA, but they're not as close as they once were. sasha just assumes that anne is busy with her other friends and doesn't overthink it.
her high school is way bigger than her middle school, and anne makes lots of new friends very quickly. some of them are also into amphibians, and they go to the woods together to look for frogs.
she gets really into baking, and starts making desserts for her family's restaurant. they're really good. some people come just for the desserts.
she starts applying herself more in school, and realizes that she actually really enjoys science. she even likes physics, despite the fact that it involves math and she sucks at math.
terri offers to tutor her in physics, but they barely work on homework together, and mostly just talk theory and philosophy. anne is fascinated by it, and thinks that maybe if they discussed this in class instead of kinematics she wouldn't be falling asleep all the damn time.
whenever anne is struggling with her schoolwork, she calls up marcy and has her walk her through it. marcy will always drop everything she's doing to help anne with her assignments. one time marcy stopped in the middle of making out with a girl to explain anne's math homework to her. that really killed the mood.
anne briefly considers applying to harvard, and uses this as an excuse to go to massachussetts to visit marcy. she knows not so deep down that she wants to be close to her family, and also that harvard is pure evil, but it's a fun notion to entertain for the sake of spending a very fun week with her oldest friend.
after sasha gets herself a boyfriend (who is anne's mortal enemy for reasons unclear), anne is determined to get a girlfriend. this shouldn't even be too difficult, considering that a few of anne's friends have crushes on her. but after a few failed kisses in which it's evident to all parties involved that anne feels nothing romantic for them, anne decides to give up. it's only in college (once she no longer sees sasha on a daily basis, funny that...) that anne enters a serious relationship. they're together for three years, but break up when her gf gets a job offer in florida (she's also a herpetologist) and decide that long distance isn't for them. they stay friends and still text all the time though.
she majors in bio of course, but she minors in film studies. anne has always loved cinema, and being in LA, her college offers a lot of really great courses in the subject. she even works at a movie theater for a couple summers, which her friends love because it means she can take them to go see movies for free.
she gets a tattoo of a lilypad on her wrist (where she broke her hand the first time she defended wartwood) and a lotus on the small of her back (where marcy and sasha have their scars). they're tastefully done, and mean a lot to her.
when domino dies, anne holds a funeral, and all her closest friends come, including sasha. she delivers a eulogy and then they watch her favorite movies on the couch while eating ice cream. the boonchuys wear all black for weeks. they loved that cat more than life itself.
she gets a tattoo of a domino on her other wrist.
okay i didn't want to end on a sad one so: anne asks sasha to go see love choice 3: the choicening with her. they haven't talked in a while, so sasha is surprised when anne asks her, but anne tells her that there's no one else with whom she'd rather see the final installment of the best series that totally isn't a ripoff of twilight and the hunger games ever.
they get a big bucket of popcorn and red and blue slushees (respectively). afterwards, anne remarks that she thinks the main girl should end up with cyborg guy's sister who was introduced in the second movie. sasha's like "wow you are literally too gay to appreciate these movies" and anne's like "you're saying that like you're not gay" and sasha's like "im bi" and anne's like "yeah sure whatever."
as they leave the theater sasha's like "you know, if marcy were here, she'd criticize this movie for its commercialism, lack of originality, and promotion of shallow love narratives invented by the patriarchy." anne's just glares at her like, "yeah, so it's a GOOD THING MARCY ISN'T HERE."

I was not having a good day already today. The kid I am in charge of looking after is the most foul-mouthed, spiteful, obstinate, rude, disrespectful, and disruptive child I have ever seen in my entire life. Nothing I do reaches him, I can make deals and promises to the kid - and he promises to behave and he'll get something out of it like using a chrome book for the last hour of school, but breaks them and then freaks out and acts indignant after being warned what he is doing will null anything fun I had made plans with him.
And on top of all that, the kids thought it was fun to throw pens at me when I have my back turned to them. I even texted the principal that we needed to have a discussion about "my" kid's behaviour.
But hey, the best part was when he smacked a much smaller younger kid on the head when he was roaming around in the hallways, and I told him firmly that this was not okay - as to which he saw it as a challenge and hit ME on the head. As to which I held him by his arms, and raised my voice that I did not find that funny, I do not want to ever see that happen again, and he is going to knock that off.
His regular teacher even walked by, did not say a single thing.
And then, while having dinner at home today, I get a call from the principal that two teachers did not like what they saw I did, and I was asked to stay home for the rest of the week, and the two teachers, the principal, and me will meet up and talk about this.
So yeah. Good times. I try to do my job, and I fully admit I lost my temper, and it feels like such a cowardly measure when every single person I have talked to at this school have either turned down my position, or told me that they could never do what I am doing.
This child understands consequences, but does not choose to take responsibility for his actions. He lies, cheats, is violent to smaller children, and acts as if he will die if he does a single assignment in class, and refuses to believe that good grades = opportunities in adulthood, and he will just play games all day. If he needs to pay rent? He will get a job for a day and then quit. If he needs a car, he'll just steal one. If he can't find a place, he'll just stay with mom.
And of course you don't go to jail for stealing a car, of course not. You just get an ankle bracelet. My coworker, who is in charge of another child with other issues, said he got the better kid, and told me this kid I got will, and I quote, "cost society a lot of money through the years."
It sounds awful to rag on an elementary school student, and it is. And maybe I am ranting, but this is such a shit situation that I was not given any information about this kid or really any genuine expectations until -after- I had signed the contract. And I am just handed this menace, because no one else wants to because they know they can't handle it - and I am treated like a villain for doing the things everyone else knows they would end up doing.
I don't know if it is, but it fucking feels unfair. Maybe I should just give up, let him have one of the chrome books he tries to steal from the classroom and run away, and just let him sit in one of the unused rooms all day and just take easy checks.
If that is all they want, having given up on the kid - and they expect me to do the same? Fine. Whatever. Like the kid realize 10 years later he fucked himself over. I am just so damned mad because he doesn't even realize how badly he is sabotaging himself. It honestly makes me feel bad for the kid, as much as he drives me crazy.

jaws drop - Jack van Poortvliet
Tumblr media
Y/N x Jack van Poortvliet Theme: very light smut (touching, kissing) you're surprising Jack during a public training session x @tigerschampignons with a little bit of teasing him word count: 1220+
Jack would always invite you to visit a public or a private training session of the Leicester rugby team, to basically show off a little. Sadly, due to uni, so many assignments, and other stuff happening all at once, you haven't had the chance to do so. Just like today, when he left for a session, you had to decline due to several deadlines. However, you are well prepared. Even though you said you were busy, actually, you managed all that work a day early, to surprise him.
Being about 15 minutes late on purpose, you enter the training grounds, walking straight to the rugby field. A couple of other people are already watching the team getting ready, they're stretching right now, and you join a group of girls on the right side. Dressing for the occasion, you snatched one of Jacks's jerseys from his cupboard, combined with blue jeans and comfy sneakers. Luckily, it's not as cold as you thought it would be. It doesn't take long for you to spot Jack on the field, being the class clown like always.
Tilting your head slightly, you ask yourself why you haven't done this way sooner. Seeing him in his training gear, short shorts, a tight shirt, messy hair, long socks, and boots, is pure eye candy. The things you'd let him do. Biting your lower lip, you try to think about something else, any distraction is welcome. "Isn't he pretty?" A shrill voice snaps you out of your daydreaming. "Have you seen his ass?" Another voice rings through your head, causing you to turn your head slightly toward the noise, spotting those two girls gossiping. 'Whatever' you roll your eyes and turn your attention back to the players.
They're now standing in a circle, probably discussing today's training, but you can still hear these two women talk rapidly. Suddenly, the shriller one raises her voice. "JACK. JACK." She throws her arms up in the air, wildly flailing them around. Trying to avoid getting hit by those razor-sharp nails, you take a step further back. "You spot Jack standing with his back turned to you, and he turns his upper body toward you. He couldn't have overheard that thought-piercing voice. At first, he wears a coy smile, but when he spots you, Jack turns around completely and raises his arm. "HEY, YOU." He says loudly, and you lift your hand slightly, a little embarrassed to be honest.
"Did you HEAR THAT?" The girl shrieks. "He totally noticed you!" The other one shrieks in unison. Closing your eyes to block them out of your mind, you struggle to not change sides, but you've got a good view from here. Training starts, and you watch them doing some sprints, more stretching, and some exercises with the ball. Jack, of course, aware of you, makes sure to position himself always at the right spot, for you to have the best look at him. Annoyingly, those girls right next to you thought it was just for them.
"You're a jack fan too?" One of the girls asks you, spotting his name on the jersey. "Oh, me?" You say surprised they even noticed you. "Nah, it's my boyfriend's. Just borrowed it." Shrugging, you look at them, trying your best not to burst out laughing. "Okayy, then." They say at the same time, giving you an annoyed glance. "We've been here week after week, and Jack finally noticed us." Her voice is so shrill, you can barely pay attention to her words. "That's awesome." You basically give a verbal thumbs-up, before you turn your head toward the pitch again.
It seems like they finally have a little break, you spot every player walking towards the group of fans, Jack, obviously, walking towards your side first. "JACK. SIGN OUR STUFF." Those girls shout again, and with a polite smile, he nods. You barely shrug, causing him to chuckle to himself. For what feels like an eternity, they besiege him, but he is able to finally break out of it, taking a few steps towards you. Casually leaning on the railing with your arms, you give him a knowing look.
A gigantic smile spreads across his face, as a few shining drops run down the side of his face. "You're here?" Jack says softly, his voice a bit exhausted by the workout. "Yup." You say, tiptoeing to meet his face with yours as he leans in to kiss you lovingly, once, then twice. "I thought you had assignments to do?" He asks you once he separates his lips from yours. His face is still close enough that you still feel them. "Finished them already." You say quietly, putting a hand on his cheek, tracing his jawline with your thumb to his chin. He hasn't shaved for a couple of days, and a very light stubble tickles your skin. Jack embraces your hand on his skin, slightly giving in to your touch. Those two girls are awkwardly quiet, and with a side glance, you check up on them. Of course, they noticed, and for the first time in forever, they were speechless. "Thank you." Jack's smile gets even bigger, his voice a little softer, as he leans in again, kissing you more passionately than before. "I thought yo-uu had a boyfriend." One girl suddenly says, her voice shaking slightly.
The two of you turn towards them, and taking advantage you place a hand on the small of Jacks's back, stroking him gently. "I do." You smirk, placing a hand on Jack's firm chest, patting his pecs tenderly. He blushes instantly as he notices your other hand now on his butt. "Y/N." He says shyly, turning his head towards you. Both of the girls are speechless once again, their jaws dropped to the floor. "You're making me blush." He says, fully aware that he's been teasing you all morning. You narrow your eyes playfully, and he does the same. Getting closer and closer, he suddenly starts to tickle you shortly, causing you to flinch. "Jaaack." You giggle, and the two of you share a laugh. Then, he turns around, realizing training is about to start again. Before he leaves you, however, he leans into you again, but this time, to whisper something into your ear. "Thank you again." He breathes against your skin, sending shivers down your spine. "Don't mention it." You steady yourself against his strong frame, both of your hands now on his chest. "No, it means a lot." He whispers, and his voice shakes slightly once you run your hands down his body to feel his muscles tensing through his tight shirt. "I owe you." Jack exhales, breathing down your neck. you lick your lips quickly as he separates from you again, wearing a playful grin on his lips. "Wait for me, okay." He says, taking one of your hands, squeezing it as to say goodbye for now. You nod, smiling brightly. "Will do." Taking a deep breath, you still smell his faint scent all around you, while you watch him walk back to the other players. "Damn Jack." You mutter to yourself, shaking your head subtly to his body filling that gear fully. As soon as he's out of earshot, those girls approach you, having a gazillion questions, which you answer as much as you feel comfortable. Together, you enjoy the rest of the training.

Hi welcome to university tips as a final year student with unmedicated ADHD who has worked part time for 2/3 years of his degree. I have made so many mistakes and after much trial and error have actually created a healthy working lifestyle, here are some tips so that you don't have to make the same mistakes as I did
If you are going to get a job while at university I would very much recommend trying to work for the university. They are typically a lot more understanding and flexible for students (this is not always the experience but this tends to be more the case than non-university jobs) which allows you to pick up and drop hours depending on how much free time you have
Try to get things done early. I know this is said over and over again but it genuinely improves the quality of your work and life
Do this by setting yourself earlier deadlines. I know that this is repeated so often and when you look at it that way it doesn't work. If you set yourself an internal deadline you are still going to know when the external one is so it just doesn't count in practice. However, the life hack is to turn your internal deadlines into external ones. You want to finish an essay a week before it's due? Tell people. Tell your friends, your parents, your academics if you are comfortable with that. Turn your internal deadlines into external ones for all the bonuses of feeling that time pressure while maintaining a high standard of work and life
Source: I spent YEARS thinking internal deadlines were fake news and writing everything at 12am running on anxiety and a prayer. I have been telling my parents what my internal deadlines are for the last year and a half and nothing I have ever done has been better for my mental health
On a similar note, use the people around you. Do proofreading exchanges with friends (preferably not ones working on the same assignments). You'll get a fresh set of eyes on your work and proofreading things for other people can actually be very good for your own work because spotting other people's mistakes can make you more mindful of your own
Utilise your university's resources. Have an essay coming up? Go to office hours and talk about it. Don't understand something discussed in class? Go to office hours and talk about it. Academics are there to help you and usually want to talk about the topic they're passionate about anyway. Have a disability? Use disabled students support, they are there to help you. Universities have so many resources available but you have to be the one to reach out. 99% of the time nobody is going to check on you, but once you make that first step there is usually some form of support available
Take breaks!!! I cannot stress enough how important this is. For my first two years of university I just did work whenever and I was so unbelievably stressed. This year I have refused to do any work on weekends no matter what. Yes, this increases my workload during the week but taking time to switch off actually makes you so much more productive. This has been the best academic year of my life, and so much of that is because I have allowed myself to take a break no matter how much work I have to do
Similarly, create a separation between the space where you work and the space where you live. I do not work in my bedroom full stop. By doing all of my work in public spaces (e.g. the library) or in the living room if I can't leave the house for whatever reason my bedroom has become a space entirely devoid of university stress. I have spent most of my life working in my bedroom and I honestly can't even begin to explain how much of an improvement this has made to my stress levels and overall mental health
Get involved in student life outside of academics. It doesn't matter if you're representing the university in sports, working in student journalism, joining your university's Taylor Swift society, or all three. University isn't just about learning inside of the classroom and you will enjoy your work a lot more if you have space away from it
Actually sleep, I guarantee it will make your life so much better
Find little things to do every day to help you wind down. I like reading for half an hour every evening, but it's really dependent on who you are as a person. It is just good to have something that you do to indicate to your brain that the work day is over so that you let yourself rest
You will find your learning style, but it really helps to actually listen to academics and older students when they give you tips. I spent a year turning my nose up at the idea of reading things through once before going back and taking notes on them because I was worried about how much time it would take. I now spend a similar amount of time on readings as I did when I refused to reread anything, but I actually understand the content now
Make note of your feedback on assignments and record what you did well as well as what you need to improve on, it will genuinely really help you improve. It is important to make sure you know what you do well because will just put you in a bad place mentally
Find friends who have similar working styles to you, it's so much easier to get things done when you have someone to keep you in check. I really like going to the library with friends because I feel that I get more work done that way, but obviously this isn't the case for everyone
These are things that work for me, and will not necessarily work for everyone, and I have probably forgotten some things. If the mental health/general wellbeing aspect doesn't motivate you, my work has gone from on the low end of average to bordering on the highest it can possibly be as I have implemented more of this into my life. Obviously, some of this will be practice, but having the time and energy to dedicate myself to my work has helped a hell of a lot as well. University is a brand new working environment and you need to change your approach to working in many ways, but everyone struggles at first and everyone learns from those struggles, you will find your place like many people have before you

How to Form and Manage a Successful College Study Group
Studying in college can be challenging, especially when you have to deal with complex and unfamiliar topics. Sometimes, studying alone is not enough to master the material and prepare for exams. That’s why many students choose to form or join a study group in college. A study group is a small group of students who meet regularly to review course content, discuss questions, and share notes. Group study for learning can have many benefits, such as improving your academic performance, enhancing your motivation, developing your communication skills, and expanding your social network. However, not all study groups are equally effective. To get the most out of your study group experience, you need to know how to form and manage a successful college study group. Here are some tips to help you do that.
Tumblr media
How to Form a Study Group in College
The first step to creating a successful study group is to find the right members. Ideally, you want to have a group of 3 to 5 students who share the same course, goals, and expectations. You can look for potential members among your classmates, friends, or dorm mates. You can also use online platforms, such as social media groups, forums, or apps, to connect with other students who are interested in forming a study group.
When you invite someone to join your study group, make sure you communicate clearly about the purpose, schedule, and rules of the group. For example, you can say something like this: “Hi, I’m looking for a study partner for our biology class. Would you be interested in joining a study group with me and two other students? We plan to meet once a week for two hours at the library. We will review the lecture notes, do practice problems, and quiz each other. We expect everyone to be prepared, punctual, and respectful.”
How to Manage a Study Group in College
Once you have formed your study group, you need to manage it well to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability. Here are some things you should do as a group leader or member:
Set goals and agendas. Before each meeting, decide what topics or assignments you want to cover and how much time you want to spend on each one. You can also assign roles and tasks to each member, such as facilitator, note-taker, or presenter.
Prepare in advance. Don’t rely on your study group to teach you everything. You should review the material on your own before the meeting and bring any questions or problems that you need help with. You should also bring any relevant resources, such as textbooks, notes, or flashcards.
Participate actively. During the meeting, engage with your group members by asking questions, sharing ideas, explaining concepts, giving feedback, and solving problems together. Don’t be afraid to voice your opinions or doubts, but also be respectful of others’ perspectives and learning styles.
Evaluate and improve. After each meeting, reflect on what went well and what could be improved. You can also ask for feedback from your group members or instructor. Based on the feedback, you can make adjustments to your goals, agendas, roles, or rules as needed.

Day Seventy-Five
Today was ugly sweater day. I have a fleece hoodie covered in bright holiday patterns- like, rows of trees, snowflakes, presents, etc...- that’s really soft and warm, so I wore that today. Some staff and students were way more delightfully tacky than I was, but I was wicked comfortable. I told my GOV kids that one thing about being an adult in a job with a professional dress code is that any opportunity to dress down, or dress silly, or whatever is awesome.
Speaking of GOV, how many times have I re-written my lessons for this week? I don’t know. I’ve lost count. Today’s was solid, though, because it’s the first lesson of a unit on political ideologies and political participation. We reviewed political socialization and the common agents of socialization, and then I had students read and discuss this Pew Research report about the changing US electorate. I’m planning to do a lesson about political parties and party identification tomorrow, but, who knows, I might change my mind again. Heh.
My World students were also starting a new unit- current world issues- so I went over the unit’s goals, how they’d be assessed, etc... and then finished up the vocab list they’d started yesterday. It took longer than expected in my Block 2 class because students kept stopping me to ask questions, but it’s actually fantastic when they do that, and it makes that part of the lesson so much more interesting, so I had a ton of fun. Then it took longer than expected in my Block 3 class because some of my students kept attempting to be disruptive and I had to redirect them. Lately, I’ve had to keep a white-knuckle grip on control of the room or else they start shouting and riling each other up. That’s not a ton of fun, but I hope we’ll have a new year’s reset.
After we finished with the vocab, students started a multi-step current affairs assignment. I gave them a list of topics to choose from: the war in Ukraine, the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, Taliban rule in Afghanistan, the drug trade in the Americas, economic competition between the US and China, the growth of far-right extremism in the West, the Yemeni civil war, the Uyghur genocide. For each topic, I linked a doc full of resources (articles, videos, slides, etc...) explaining what’s happening and why. Students have to use those resources to answer some guiding questions, and they have until the end of the week to do it. I like the assignment because it gives students some guided choices, and they can work at their own pace, and so they’re in charge of their learning more than I am. It’s like taking the training wheels off the bicycle, and it’s how it should be towards the end of a course.
Ms. A dropped by during Block 4, which is when we both have prep, to chat and share some poppy seed bread she’d baked as a Christmas present- super good!- but left when one of my students arrived to retake a test. The student was there until around 3:00, so I puttered in my classroom, rewrote my GOV plans at least twice more, prepped my boards, did some grading... Dean 1 ended up walking out at the same time as me, so we chatted about our holiday plans on the way to our cars.
Just a few more days...

okay hello hello I’ve spent six hours this morning overhauling our application materials + making a new faculty reference form + doing a bunch of project planning and work. my big picture goal for today and tomorrow is to get the application into shape—meaning I need to complete the following things:
revised page 1: program description, funding info, eligibility requirements
revised page 2: selected list of past projects, research topics, and community partners (to give students a clearer understanding of the kind of work we do)
revised page 3: reworked essay and short answer questions + application checklist
revised page 4: faculty reference form
start compiling the list of student orgs I want to reach out to with a personal invitation to apply—like, I want us to really prioritize recruiting students from women’s, trans, and LGBTQ+ groups this cycle, in addition to our usual focus areas (racial justice, immigrant rights, healthcare, etc).
I am going to take a break now then switch to my laptop to work on compiling the other pages. I need to remember that the goal here (the goal for this entire prep process!) is to be as efficient as possible and to reuse as much stuff as I can. good enough is good enough!!!! there is no point in spending a million hours reworking stuff to make it slightly better when the original is perfectly serviceable. it would be awesome if I could finish today, but I also think I might run out of steam pretty soon, so if I don’t finish it’s okay—maybe I’ll focus on doing a few timed bursts of work where I’m just COMPILING material but am not allowed to edit or tinker with it yet.
Thursday will be busy with meetings mostly but hopefully I can finish app materials then. Friday will be another BIG push…

I will try to give myself one weekend day on and one weekend day totally off. then next week I’ll plan to work pretty hard on monday and tuesday, because I think with four days of sustained work I can get a complete syllabus in place with those week-by-week mentoring goals. I don’t need to have every lesson completed as long as I know generally what the objectives are for each week.
the other big pieces:
REMEMBER I HAVE ALL THESE SAMPLE ARTIFACTS FROM STUDENTS TO USE AS TEACHING MODELS that was a big favor I did for my future self last year and I need to not forget I did that
I need to do some serious thinking about project management tools. I just feel like I don’t have the brainpower to learn a new system right now aaaaa. I think this will be a “good enough is good enough” thing. Our low-tech google docs system works fine and will work even better if we have those clear mentoring goals in place. if I have time and want to mess around with Notion or Asana I can do that later once everything else is done.
I want to sit down and make a list of skills or consultations I can outsource to other campus centers. for instance I can do some of the time management strategies stuff in class but if someone is struggling I can send them to our study skills center with an extremely specific assignment/list of questions to discuss. same goes with students who are really struggling to narrow down their research questions. if I have a really clear sense of what’s out there, I don’t have to reinvent the wheel or figure out how to solve every problem that comes up.
I need to sit down and really spend some time figuring out what I want homework to look like for the class. I would like to standardize the type or form of assignment even if the content changes week to week, so that they consistently know what they’re expected to bring each week and about how long it will take them. ideally this will somehow be directly tied to their week-by-week goals.
I also need to revisit the fall research portfolio and decide which pieces to keep vs. which weren’t as useful. I also really liked this as an assignment but I don’t feel like I deployed it as effectively as possible. I think a better way to do it is to integrate the component pieces into the week-by-week goals.
I think so for example…
core weekly goals: students should research, identify, and reach out to 5 potential contacts for exploratory interviews by the end of the week. they should also begin brainstorming questions for each interviewee.
research portfolio component the lesson is tied to: partially satisfies the informational interview + the feedback plan requirements
seminar topic: how to build a personal feedback network & why it’s important (possibly with a guest visit or video from a previous student).
seminar activity 1: mock exercise where they give me a random topic and I model how I would go about identifying experts I could talk to… I make a list with annotated notes of why I want to talk to each person (setting myself up for next week’s task of generating interview questions). they observe, take notes, ask questions… then they spend 15 minutes independently researching and coming up with a list of 2-3 contacts.
seminar activity 2: I explain what cold emailing is and how it works. I show them a few good sample emails from last year’s students and they discuss in groups what makes them effective… maybe they take notes using a structured worksheet that lists elements to include so they leave with a little “how to” guide. (maybe I also mix in a fake “bad” email and we talk about what to avoid.)
seminar activity 3: they start making a bullet point list of details they want to include in their own cold email template (could be part of the structured notes worksheet or we could create a mad libs style template as a group). end seminar by having them compare their list to a peer’s to get quick feedback.
individual advising meeting: they bring a draft of their cold email template + a list of 5-10 prospective contacts to the session to get feedback from their project advisor. we review the list + discuss who they want to prioritize and why. maybe we show them a sample list of questions from a past student + then work with them to brainstorm specific topics for the first person on their list.
their task: they send out their first 5 cold emails (cc’ing their advisor). then on the research portfolio checklist (shared with the program advisors), they check the first two sub-tasks for the informational interview component.
end of week: advisors quickly review the portfolio checklists for their student caseload and flag any students who didn’t complete it or might need additional help

Chasing Starlight
St. Petersburg: Victor’s city is the same, but different. Or maybe it’s just that he’s the one who’s changed. Alone again, Victor aches to be back with Yuri, so they can keep exploring what they started together, instead of worlds apart.
Detroit: Yuri’s eyes are on the future, and the promise he and Victor made to each other at the end of the summer. But when Yuri and Patrick get pulled back into each other’s lives, Yuri knows there’s no moving forward without tying up all the loose ends in his past.
The Promise: To come together again, even when life keeps them apart. When Victor and Yuri are both assigned to Skate America in Chicago, they have the chance to do just that. But will the world get in their way, or will they have the chance to finally admit what they feel in their hearts?

Read Chapter Nine here!
In which Victor meets Nolan, and the gang attends Strip to Stop Suicide.
Posting every day at 5:00, chapter preview below the cut
There were times that week when Victor felt, almost, as though he had never left Pontiac. He and the others quickly settled back into their old routine—spending time studying or just hanging out at the student center, or Graeme’s. He went to practice every afternoon with Yuri or Phichit at the rink, which Ciao Ciao had been generous enough to let him make use of. They had dinner together. They laughed. Talked about their days, caught Victor up on all the new jokes that he had been missing while he’d been away. He had been sliding back, while he was in Petersburg, to his old habits, spending too much time in his head instead of with other people who coaxed him out of the glass castle he sometimes surrounded himself with. It was a relief, in so many ways, to be seen as Victor the person instead of Victor Nikiforov, the concept of a person. It was a relief.
On Friday, he spent the afternoon in Graeme’s while his friends traipsed in and out. He had dropped his things off at Yuri’s earlier that morning, with a spare key that Theia gave him, because Yuri had been in class and wasn’t around to receive Victor himself. He had been in Yuri’s apartment before when Yuri was absent, but Phichit had always been there. He had just been another supervised guest. It was a different matter to enter the code to let himself into the building, then unlock the door to let himself into the apartment. It hadn’t been hard to let his mind wander to daydreams as he did it, doing this one day with a place that he and Yuri shared, or when Phichit was in college next year, and if he ever came to stay with Yuri…
It was strange, to be trusted with Yuri’s space, if even only in passing, and to be given a key with which he could enter and leave the apartment as he wished.
He had left his things in Phichit’s room and tried not to linger for too long. There was a sticker on the door, reading in small, shiny letters “The Theater Kid,” surrounded by little gold stars. It had made Victor smile to see it. Inside, the walls were covered in posters, most for Broadway shows, or some parody on that theme, a few of famous skaters. As he had left, he had thrown a furtive glance over at Yuri’s door, which was closed, and tried not to wonder about the posters that were on the walls there, how Yuri had decorated his personal space. He had looked away quickly and headed for the door. It had felt like a trespass, somehow, to even think about Yuri’s room when Yuri himself was not around, even if Victor was all alone.
His phone buzzed now and Victor tore his thoughts away from Yuri’s apartment to the coffee shop around him, and the book open in his hands. He set the book aside and picked up his phone from where he had left it on the couch besides him.
Theia (Mom) Yo come over to Patrick’s
He frowned. He knew there had been some discussion of coming over and hanging out with the group of them, and/or having dinner with them tonight before StS2, but Patrick’s? Of all places, they had to meet at Patrick’s? He tapped out a response to her quickly and tapped his fingers on the side of the phone while he waited for her response.
Victor Nikiforov Now???? Why????
