Happy Birthday to the most precious and most beautiful Katsudon in anime history!
I wanted to celebrate Yuuri's birthday with something fresh, but lacked the time to come up with an idea, so I'm sharing the one-shot I wrote for his birthday last year. The story starts off a bit sad and angsty, but I promise that it will become cheerful and silly after a while.
Summary:
After another failed attempt at qualifying for the Grand Prix Final, Yuuri returns to Detroit on his birthday, defeated, disheartened, and determined to quit skating. All he wants is to mourn his missed chance to skate on the same ice as his long-time crush and idol in peace. But his roommate Phichit has different plans. For a defeat is no reason to give up on your greatest dream.
"We rarely ever talked because I always put him on such a high pedestal."
Buildings flitted by, veiled behind drifts of snow that came down from monotonous grey heavens and buried the monumental skyline of Detroit under the icing of the first blizzard of the season. Christmas lights defied the murk, where one week ago the facades of shops, office buildings, and tenements had loomed unadorned and naked. The sight held no joy for Yuuri as he gazed out of the window, his mind blank, his heart heavy.
Another attempt. Another failure. Another chance wasted.
The story of the unsensational life of Katsuki Yuuri.
He had moved here to start all over, but so far, thousands of hours of sweat, tears, and bruises had been in vain.
I couldn’t even work up the courage to talk to him.
Images of another figure skater stole into Yuuri’s mind as if they would ever leave for long. His dazzling smile when he greeted his fans and fellow skaters. His immaculate jumps with those swift running edges. His elegant posture that spoke of hours of ballet training. His beautiful twizzles. His flexibility when he pulled up his free leg from a layback position into a tight Biellmann spin as no other male skater could. The effortlessness with which he danced across the ice. The focus in his keen eyes of the blue of a clear winter morning. The way the see-through sleeves of his dark-red costume had emphasised his muscular arms as he had skated to Tango de Roxanne that weekend. The way he swept back his silver-blonde hair that shimmered like starlight.
That one time during warm-up… he was so close I could have touched him.

Across The Universe
Detroit: Yuri’s done the math. He done the research and the consideration and the planning. This will be his last year of competitive figure skating, and this time next year, he’ll be moving on to grad school. No matter what, though, Yuri hopes to hold onto Victor in any way that he can. Even if he has to compromise and change his own dreams to do it.
St. Petersburg: Victor is tired of compromising. Tired of having dreams deferred, of stealing moments in the off season and after competitions to spend time with Yuri. The way he sees it, there are only two options: keep Yuri in competitive skating, or find a way to stay by Yuri’s side after this year is through. Because if there’s anything that Victor knows for certain, it’s that he’s never letting anything come between him and his soulmate ever again.
But how far are Yuri and Victor willing to go to protect the other’s dreams? And with a whole universe separating them, will a soulmate bond really be enough to hold them together when it matters most?

Read Chapter Thirty-Two here!
In which Victor and Yuri feverishly hope that the other one will make the first move, and a stalemate ensues.
Posting every Friday (ish), chapter preview below the cut
Yuri was late to practice. In his defense, though, it had been a long flight, and a seemingly endless trip to the athlete’s village, and no sooner had he gotten to his room than Junichi was knocking on his door, peppering him with questions about how interviews had been and whether he’d managed to land a flip yet and by the time Yuri managed to actually eat something and change into practice clothes, he was supposed to be at the rink to start off ice warm-ups, and by the time he was there to start warming up, everyone else was already out on the ice.
So in the end he only got a weak warm-up in, nowhere near the amount of time he actually should have given it, and then an even weaker amount of time to actually get a feel for the ice.
And not just any ice. The ice. The main rink. Olympic rings below him. A scattering of spectators and media up in the stands to watch him, to speculate and criticize. It made Yuri want to throw up.
(How was it, just earlier today, that he’d managed to be excited for all of this?)
Seeing Victor standing at the other end of the rink, staring blankly at him, wasn’t any help. And Yuri didn’t have to wonder anymore if he had it in him to go up to his soulmate right away and reopen everything between them. He knew now that he didn’t have the courage to do it. And he was frankly relieved that Victor was the first person off the ice now that practice was over—while Yuri himself was still all the way at the other end of the rink—because that just meant he could put everything off for just a little bit longer.
Tomorrow, Yuri told himself. I can talk to him tomorrow.
Because one thing was for certain: even if Yuri’s cowardice and anxiety were swallowing him whole now, the moment he had seen Victor he had known in his soul that he didn’t want to let Victor go. He knew Patrick was right, that if he waited around to long, then Victor would move on. He had seen it in the way Victor was skating, before he’d come onto the ice. And Yuri didn’t want that. He wanted Victor to be happy, yes, but he wanted to be the one who made Victor happy. He wanted the life that Victor’s short program described.

“...Makkachin has to come to the rink too. Minimum three times a week. For at least an hour.” He leaned down to scratch her ears, beaming. “Who’s the best girl? Is it Makka? It is! Do you want a treat? Do you?”
Makka sat up, wagging enthusiastically.
“Oh my god,” Victor whispered. “Yuuri, our child has been lured into a life of sin by a sweet-talking Italian. My worst nightmare has come to pass. We’ve failed as parents.”

Heavenly Pearl's Fic Review 2022 - The Morning After
"The Morning After" is the last fic I wrote for this year's Yuri!!! On Ice Rare Pair Week.
Summary: The morning after winning his first senior National title, Yuuri discovers that his coach and former ballet instructor had a one-night stand.
Thoughts: A couple of years ago, I wrote a fic called "Lonely Hearts", which was about a Christmas Eve hook-up between Yuuri's old ballet instructor, Minako, and his new coach in America, Celestino, after Yuuri wins his first senior national title. I never really planned to write any more in that universe, but when somebody on Discord suggested I write a fic about Yuuri finding out about their one night stand… Well, I couldn't resist! I do really enjoy the part where Yuuri realizes what had happened between Minako and Celestino, especially when he calls Minako a "mistress", all scandalized. (She is one, technically, but Celestino is in the middle of getting a divorce, so it's not quite so bad.) His freakout about what them dating could mean for him is also pretty amusing. The rest of the story is…okay. That's really the theme of most of my fics this year. Most of them are just okay.

Hi! How are you? I hope you're doing well ❤️
I'm new in the fandom and I'm looking for some fics centered around the banquet! Maybe Victor's pov, maybe a yuuri remembers au... It can be anything really.
Thanks a lot!
Hello and welcome to the fandom!
Here are banquet-centered fics I rec
Bottom's Up by @cryingoverspilledvodka, @lucycamui [T, 4K]
At the Grand Prix banquet, Victor's been asked to sign an autograph for a very enthusiastic fan. Unfortunately, there's a distinct lack of paper around. Fortunately, Yuuri has a suggestion. Alternatively titled, "Ever Seen An Ass So Fine You Had To Sign It 'Mine'? or "Autograph Me (Wherever You'd Like)"
Just Hold On (We're Going Home) by @kiaronna [M, 23K]
Where Yuuri remembers the banquet, Viktor forgets, and Yakov Feltsman has his own plans.
“I’ve been made aware of your recent break with Celestino Cialdini, and would like to offer you a trial period where you train under me, in St. Petersburg. There are only three conditions: you will board with another one of my students, you will take ballet with Madame Baranovskaya, and you will help me coach Yuri Plisetsky, who refuses to listen to my criticisms of his spins.” Yakov nods at this point, leans forwards and looks Yuuri in the eye. “I will charge no coaching fees.” With a deal like that, even if it means he has to face Viktor again, Yuuri has no choice but to agree.
say you'll remember by anyadisee [T, 18K]
It’s not that Yuuri blames Celestino, though. That’s really not it. He knows what Celestino’s feelings and intentions were – he’s not just a coach to Yuuri, after all, but also a friend. He worries, looks out for Yuuri, and tries to bring him out of the shell he always retreats to when things don’t go his way. If anything, it was Yuuri’s mistake. He knows how he is with alcohol. He should’ve known better.
But. What’s done is done. The only thing he can do now is damage control.
[or, in which yuuri remembers the banquet happenings]
you say sochi, i say fuck me by @spookyfoot [T, 5K]
“You couldn’t find your room key,” Victor continues, “and I certainly wasn’t going to let you sleep alone.”
“What…happened?” Yuuri squeaks, wincing. His voice cracks in a way it hasn’t since Victor skated to Rite of Spring.
“Oh!” Victor somehow leans even closer and now Yuuri can see Victor has a matching set of freckles scattered across his nose. “You showed me your pole!”
“Oh my god.” But clearly God is dead because Yuuri is still alive right now.
Victor continues, utterly oblivious to Yuuri’s distress, “….dancing skills. Pole dancing skills. Sorry, I had your come stuck in my throat.” He punctuates it with a conspiratorial wink.
Yuuri stares, dumfounded as his brain goes offline. He's not sure which part of that sentence is more horrifying.
_____
Yuuri wakes up in Victor's room after the Sochi Banquet.

And now our protagonist, Skater Kaedehara Kazuha <3
(Taking the role of Yuuri Katsuki)
Tumblr media
And some close ups!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some story bits and fun facts about kazuha!
His performance costume is based off of 3 of Yuzuru Hanyu's outfits he actually wore!
(In case you cant read the text) Kazuha is 23 and his home rink is in Líyuè and his birthday is October 29. He is described as 'an underdog in the ranks and a champion in the rinks. Under his coach's guidance, he'll prove himself worthy of a gold medal!'
Kazuha's former coach is Ayato (as Celestino Cialdini) and learned ballet from his adopted mother, Ningguang (Minako)
His (former) Rinkmates in Inazuma are namely: Gorou (Phichit), Ayaka and Yoimiya whereas Kokomi was Ayaka and Yoimiya's coach most of the time
His rinkmates in Líyuè are: Xinyan, Xiao, Yunjin, Keqing and Ganyu
Kazuha mostly skates with Gorou in Inazuma and with Xinyan and Xiao in Líyuè
Kazuha has competed multiple times before in competition with both Xiao and Gorou.
In the most recent Teyvat Grand Prix Finals series, Kazuha competed against Xiao and Gorou. Gorou finished in 6th place, Xiao who was unable to make the finals and Kazuha taking his spot in 2nd place.
Kazuha started skating at the age of 5 before his parents died two years later. After their passing, Kazuha was brought to an orphanage and was adopted by Ningguang and Beidou. When he turned 18, he returned to Inazuma and was coached by Ayato, before being coached by Heizou a few years later.
Heizou had previously wore Kazuha's current performance costume during his debut in the senior division, with only a few alterations to suit Kazuha's measurements (and an addition of a maple leaf)
Kazuha's eyeliner is a gift from Xiao as a welcome gift

Happy birthday to the most beautiful fictional figure skater who in one year taught me more about myself than my entire life!
In case you all haven't had enough birthday stories for today, here's a one-shot I wrote last minute. It's nothing special, but the idea resonated with me a lot.
Summary:
After another failed attempt at qualifying for the Grand Prix Final, Yuuri returns to Detroit, where his roommate Phichit cheers him up with a very special birthday surprise because a defeat is no reason to give up on your greatest dream…

Read Chapter Twenty-Four here!
In which the Grand Prix Final of tears comes to a close.
Posting every Friday (ish), chapter preview below the cut
The first tear slipped out before Victor could stop it. Hot and fast, down his cheek. It landed on the back of his hand. There was a thing, in movies, where they would replace sound with ringing after an explosion, muffle all the voices. Victor had always thought it was laughably unrealistic. But it was happening to him now, and yet it still somehow felt laughably unrealistic.
We need to stop dating.
He swallowed, as if that would get rid of the lump in his throat, but the second tear still came, just like the first one. He could see the vague shape of Yuri sitting next to him. The ugly pattern of the hotel carpet on the floor. The door, just beyond his reach.
We should break up.
He felt more than saw Yuri brush his bangs away, and on instinct more than anything else, he slapped his soulmate’s hand away.
“Victor—” Yuri started.
“I—You—” Victor tried. It was surprisingly hard to speak around his tears. “Where is this coming from?”
He was twelve again, in the car with his mother as they were hit, and he was fine, and he was fine, and she was falling apart.
Vitya, she whispered. Brushed his cheek with a trembling hand. Tu es blessé.
Non, Maman, he wanted to say. C’est vous.
But he was here, in a hotel room, with Yuri. His Yuri. His soulmate, Yuri.
“It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while, actually,” Yuri said, “and don’t tell me you haven’t been thinking about it, too. I know you have. You know this is for the best, same as me.”
Victor could laugh. He could cry. He did cry, tears coming harder and faster than they had before. For the best? He felt like his heart was getting ripped out. Actually, that was accurate. That was what was happening here.
