OOOOOOOH! so as with everything, i Definitely think jersey is a snob. movies are no exception. also he does not call movies 'movies', he 100% is annoying and pretentious as fuck and uses 'film' or 'cinema'. also speaking of being pretentious, annoying and the word 'cinema', i think ravesey's dynamic is super funny for a lot of reasons but in this case, it's funny to me bc when style watches movies together, kyle says shit like 'y'know i like the plot progression of the film, but i'm not a big fan of the cinema topography."

anyways, jersey is giving me the energy of those kids in elementary school that adults say have an 'old soul' and likes really complex abstract movies, foreign films in black and white that play at some tiny theater for $5 on fridays, which, kyle is obviously a homebody and hates other people, but when he needs air or is feeling briefly zesty/willing to endure human beings enough to see a movie ( which, granted, it's def just him and the old ass man/annoying indie college student that run the place shooting the shit in there ), he will...make the trip out there and buy a pack of skittles and a sparkling ice ( okay, i had an anon say that kyle probably drinks those sparkling ice drinks and i fucking cried bc he DEFINETELY does and it's def the black cherry flavor bc kyle is cherry coded, however he will also accept the raspberry one or the fruit punch in a punch ) and ofc only eat the red skittles, smh.

i do think he still likes all the regular kyle scifi movies/high fantasy movies, stuff with dystopian societies/political uprisings ( him & stan have overlap there and obvi some high fantasy/scifi stuff but kyle has to explain a lot of it, kyle do be mansplaining shit but its okay because stan loves the sound of his voice <3 gay ) specifically things with deep complex lore, movies with puzzles/things that need to be solved, def watched interstellar a couple times and like, donnie darko bc of all the time lore ( that movie does freak him out btw, he was clenching hard the first time he watched it because he thought that the fucking rabbit dude was gonna kill everyone and it was gonna turn into a horror movie which...more on that subject l8r )

and i bet you he says his fav movie is some big brain movie in like swedish, black and white, is all philisophical and pretentious and deep but tbh...? i think jersey's favorite movies are specifically old romance movies like fkn casablanca, gone with the wind type stuff. yes, kyle being a secret romantic boy is very cute to me, i fucking love him so much, he is secretly v sentimental and warm.

( which, okay sidebar for nina lore but i watched a fuck ton of gossip girl growing up and i had such a fat crush on serena van der woodsen, like not even blake lively, specifically serena van der woodsen like i have mental problems, i would not fumble her, fuck you so much, dan humphrey, serena please ONE CHANCE!!!!!! )

and i think he fucks very heavy with audrey hepburn and her movies, like roman holiday, sabrina, okay my fair lady is so jersey coded bc of his new jersey slaughterhouse accent/its a musical and he is a dork, he does like musicals so much buuuut i think his favorite movie is my favorite movie which is...breakfast at tiffany's. WHICH???

okay, if you think about it is super interesting given stan's previous line of work ( which okay, i know he wasn't really doing anything and just sort of enduring it to be able to sing, but being trapped in that uncomfortable, hypersexual environment and being constantly percieved & being constantly obsessed over. )

he do be skipping over the all the really insensitive shit w/ the overblown racist asian caricature of holly's neighbor ( that man is too loud anyways he's like please shut up, his ears are sensitive...both to sound and just in general, fml there's a nsfw headcannon abt that ) but idk all the romantic stuff is very cute, he likes the cinnamontophography, all of holly's stuff about getting over her fear of commitment, the fashion statements...chef's kiss to him.

i think he also fucks secretly with pride and prejudice like pep!kyle wHERE IS THE PRIDE AND PREJUDICE THEMED MARRIAGE PROPOSAL STAN I'M WAITING!!!! kyle can quote it line for line, i think he likes when they're set in victorian periods like omg i bet you he watched bridgerton and was obsessed lmaooo, all the adpations of emma jane austen movies, atonement...stuff like that. he does make stan watch them with him sometimes and stan is so hopeless his adhd is so bad he needs ACTION also all the shakespeare-y speak stresses him out so bad, he asks so many questions and can't sit still.

he does...sigh, strategically time makeout sessions In The Middle Of Movies when he gets bored, kyle is like stanley marsh that is not going to work...it does...work everytime skdhshds speaking of that nsfw hc, kyle's neck and ears are hella sensitive so if you like drag ur teeth along his ear or start trailing kisses down his neck, his mind goes completely blank, stan does it when kyle's yelling at him about stuff all the time, kyle gets so mad at him later...and i do mean later because he is like i have to do something first ( hint: it's stan, lmao )

SPEAKING OF STAN!!!!! in vein of them being opposites attract kings, stan is naught an old soul ( i mean, in terms of music, he is sorta vintage ) and fucks very heavy with new movies. he really likes actiony stuff, lots of explosions and shit, very loud, very fast-paced. i feel like he likes superhero movies, like part of the stan name is because he was like eight and thought stan lee was a GENIUS. he watched into the spiderverse like...40 times. he has mental problems. stan likes cars, he does like the fast and furious movies, smh.

i think he...Specifically likes horror movies, though? because he is a spooky ooky edgy boy halloween KING? they just scratch an itch in his brain and he is engaged the entire time because there is either constant suspense or crazy amounts of action and running around. KYLE HATES IT, BTW!!!! kyle is a scaredy cat. like he is the scariest motherfucker on planet earth in person, but the silences and shit freak him out so much, he is not good with jump scares, he is behind his hands, in stan's lap, swearing soooo much like stanstanstan what the fuck I SWEAR TO GOD IF THAT WAS THE INVISIBLE MAN, I AM GOING TO KILL MYSELF, HOLY SHIT DID THAT JUST mOVE??? stan is deeply amused and thinks it is adorable, so he does subject kyle to stan spooky scary movie hour sometimes just to hold him...gaaaaay! idk which one is his favorite i have to get back to you on that. if you have suggestions like me know haha i am also...a scaredy cat.

a couple last things on stan and horror movies though is, i feel like that might be a contreversial take because stan doesn't like blood, but i think the scenarios being fake and because he works with so much fake blood doing whore-ror crimson dawn music videos, he just knows what it looks like and can tell hella quick. if he knows it's not real, it does not freak him out. i think he only thing he doesn't like is animals being killed...like people are fine??? help??? oh my god??? but not dogs or anything. he will cry and cower.

i also think that...weirdly...it combats his ptsd? specfifically final girl type movies where someone lives and kills the antagonist in a horror movie because it's very...relevant to him and reminds him that you can survive something horrible and be okay. and again, even when it's a total wipeout and not a happy ending, the catharsis of being scared and surprised is relaxing to him and knowing scary things can happen and be fake/everyday is not war or hell is good for him. he does avoid specifically triggering things with farms or fire? unless there is something where setting something on fire as a final girl/boy saves the town or everyone because...again...relevant and healing.

idk...complicated, but we get my gist, yeah?

i think they do a movie night once a week or something and they alternate choosing...they also complain bc their movie tastes are so different but love conquers all lmao, and they can always watch lotr and star wars and stuff. I THINK WHEN THEY'RE BEING CUTE THEY WATCH STUDIO GHIBLI MOVIES AND STUFF??? SO CUTE OMG. speaking of cartoons and anime adjacent things...stan do be making kyle watch stanime...kyle is in hell...jersey is like why are there so many boobs, why are they screaming, why are there 1000 episodes, he does also strategically plan makeout sessions ( i am so sorry it doesn't always work, stans boyfail cringe energy is so strong it's so awful, kyle is like literally on top of him and is like ;) if you turn the tv off, i can turn something else on and stan is like baby, you are blocking the epic battle scene, he's about to charge up his attack!!! they do watch a lot of tv shows together, kyle's comfort television shows are still say yes to the dress and masterchef/gordon ramsey food network cooking competition type stuff — bc i'm watching next level chef, they are also watching next level chef and they scream so much like bRO HE'S GONNA MISS THE PLATFORM WHAT THE FUCK WHAT IS HE DOING!!!! it's so funny

speaking of say yes to the dress tho and stuff like that when kyle comes in all busted up from his bar fight and stan's patching it up, towards the end of that interaction right before they get back together, kyle is like "did you watch the new one?" and stan's like "no. i couldn't watch it without you. & even if i could, i wouldn't bc i don't know, i just didn't want to think about people being in..."

and kyle just takes a deep, steep breath and is like...

and stan nods.

• Cartman literally gets so excited it's funny, but if you say anything about him being excited he flips you off and tells you that you can't be his sidekick (he's lying)

• He kinda thinks of everyone on the team as his sidekicks but you're like, his special sidekick and he'll never admit it

• He loves having you as his sidekick, NOW IT'S LIKE ALL OF YOUR MISSIONS ARE DATES!

• Cartman literally throws a fit anytime he has a mission you can't go on, he wants you there SO FUCKING BAD but he'll never tell you that

• He's weirdly protective of you but it's really nice (this totally isn't based off me talking to the Cartman character ai)

• You definitely bring snacks for you guys during patrol and I swear to god his pupils are hearts I'm not even kidding

• In my opinion, patrols and stakeouts with Cartman would be the best

• Out of all of them, he's the one you do the most with. Every other night there's some sort of crazy bullshit y'all deal with

• Most of the crazy bullshit being because Cartman caused it but shhhhh we don't talk about it

• Being his sidekick is a soild 7/10, he can get a lil selfish but he's really fun

Kyle, Human Kite

• Kyle's excited but more nervous than anything, he doesn't have anything to worry about tho!

• Y'all are a pretty good duo, even though you don't normally go on missions where y'all have to fight

• You guys work more with damage control, I mean kites are pretty fragile and mans is a human kite alien so like

• Not to say he's weak, he's far from it actually! He just has pretty low health and stuff ya know?

• HOWEVER! You're a pretty good healer so it just makes sense that y'all are always near each other on the battlefield, plus sidekick so yeah

• Not only do y'all usually do damage control but also a pretty good amount of recon

• Half of the time you guys end up getting caught and have to run away so you get to be on Kyle's back as y'all are gliding the hell out of there

• Its like, surprisingly fun to be gliding. The wind in your hair and the excitement is the best

• Anyways, because y'all don't see combat too often the patrols are really calm. Sometimes even a little boring but you don't mind, neither of you are getting hurt and that's all that matters

• 9/10, it's kinda boring sometimes but it's pretty nice to be with your bf. At least y'all don't get hurt and can goof off during patrol

Stan, Toolshed

• Stan's kinda indifferent about it, he's like "cool you're joining me... why?"

• Don't get me wrong, he thinks it's cool you wanna join him! He just doesn't get it too much, isn't it gonna be boring for you?

• Well, ya know what? Now he has someone to spend sleepless nights with when he's on patrol!

• Ngl he underestimated how much he would enjoy having you by his side, he's not lonely anymore AND SOMEHOW HE DIDN'T NOTICE HOW LONELY HE WAS TILL YOU JOINED HIM

• Ahhh, imagine if you had tool themed super powers too?? Y'all share some of his dads power tools and have to awkwardly try fixing them when they somehow break during battle

• You can't tell me Stan hasn't broken them before! He literally throws screwdrivers at people and shoves power tools into the ground, they have to break at some point

• Good thing you guys somewhat know how to fix things, y'all both probably would've been dead multiple times if you didn't know how to repair the shit y'all break

• Y'all have definitely had to clean blood off the tools at the end of patrols/nights. Literally almost every time, he really has to stop throwing screwdrivers at people

• Anyways, Stan thinks you're the best sidekick ever and he loves having you around. Having you as his sidekick is really fun overall, he wouldn't trade you for literally any other

• Being his sidekick is a good 8/10, it's not the best thing to clean blood off tools at 2 am but you don't mind too much

Kenny, Mysterion

• Part of Kenny is over the moon! The other part, not so much

• He doesn't want you to get hurt while you're his sidekick so he's probably a lot more careful on his missions than he usually is

• There's definitely a lot of flirting between y'all tho, he gets SO cocky when he's Mysterion. Its one of his favorite things to get you flustered and flirt with you like, mid battle

• He doesn't die as much as he used to now that you're there so that's nice! He can't bare having you see him die tbh

• Y'all often patrol more dangerous parts of town so you guys see combat REALLY often

• I mean it's not Kenny's fault that homeless methheads and rednecks keep trying to kill you guys. It's whatever, he's good at fighting and so are you!

• You are by no means delicate, no matter how much he tries to protect you from all the battle you still end up seeing it anyways

• He kinda thinks it's hot that you're so good at fighting, he's literally like "damn bbg, you can beat my ass any day"

• Kenny never gets used to you flirting back with him, he practically short circuits. You think it's cute how he can flirt so easily but get so flustered when it's reciprocated

• In my opinion, being his sidekick is 8.5/10 because of all the fighting and flirting

Butters, Professor Chaos

• Omg Butters is ecstatic! He didn't know how you knew he was Professor Chaos but he doesn't dwell on it too much

• Now you guys can bring all the chaos your little heart desires to South Park and he's so happy about it

• First South Park, then WORLD DOMINATION!

• You're not exactly one of his henchmen and he doesn't have the heart to call you his sidekick, you're something higher than henchman?

• Does it really matter? He's gonna bring chaos to the world with you by his side and that's all that really matters in his opinion

• Every time Cartman and his hero team beat him up after foiling his plans you always end up having to patch him up which is kinda annoying but it's fun to scheme with Butters during that time

• You definitely end up being the one who reminds him of his common sense, you're kinda like his rock in a way?

• He's so glad to have you by his side, plus now that you're here his plans actually succeed sometimes!

• The younger henchman all ship you guys considering most of them don't know y'all are actually dating, it's pretty endearing

• Solid 8/10, you rarely get hurt and it's kinda painful to see Butters hurt but y'all have a good time in general

No hear me out, like I wanna pick them all up and hug them like teddy bears. They're all so cute as kids even tho Cartman would probably and most likely has committed war crimes they're my lil cutie patooties. They're literally all really close to my height but I don't care I wanna hug them like teddy bears

Lets you borrow his jacket when it’s really cold

Enjoys holding your hand; will grab at it unconsciously whenever he’s near you

Doesn’t care a lot about school but will take notes for you if you are absent

Will text you random updates throughout the day. “Cartman and Kyle are fighting again.” “I just saw a cute kitten” “listened to that song you recommended. Was good.”

feel like he's the type to make spotift playlist of songs thay remind him of you or songs you recommended him

Doesn't mind doing the matching couple things as long as it’s not too corny. Will buy matching converse or sweatshirts

Spam messages you constantly, especially if he knows you aren’t doing anything. They get more clingy as he messages you until you reply. Then he plays it off like he didn’t even want your attention; he was just bored.

Loves when you wear his clothes. Doesn’t like when you do it so much in public but once you had to borrow a shirt because you spilled something on yours. He just stared at you, in awe of how good you could look in something of his.

Will try on assignments he is working with you on. He respects you more and knows his slacking off will directly affect you. He still doesn’t put in 100% effort but you don’t have to carry his whole weight.

Loves calling you those really obnoxious pet names. Finds them so funny because you hate them.

Loves it even more when you call him a pet name. At first he will mock you for calling him something like "honey," but then he won't be able to stop thinking about it. Will reluctantly tell you you can keep calling him that stuff. But not in front of the guys.

This also applies to kissing. He will mock you the first you kiss his cheek as a goodbye but now he leans his head towards you if you're getting up to go.

His love language is making fun of you. Will call you stupid and ugly constantly but will throw hands with anyone else who dares try and call you that.

Kenny Mccormick

loves loves LOVES showing you off

Will bring you up in conversation, but isn’t as braggy as Cartman gets. Just loves you so much.

He is also with you as much as he can be. wIll walk you to each of your classes even if it causes him to be late.

The type to carry any books you’re holding while you walk. Will even balance them in one hand so his other is free to grab onto yours.

The type to wait by your locker to walk you home. He will rush to get there before you do.

Will pull down his hood when he’s with you for the sole reason he loves when you play with his hair. Enjoys putting his head in your lap, it’s his way of inviting you to do it.

loves listening to you talk! no matter what you are rambling about you have kenny's full attentions.

Although known as a serial flirter/perv, it dies down when he gets into a relationship with you. He’s very loyal and won't risk your relationship or your trust

Comes over to your house a bunch. Your parents are used to him coming over frequently. He probably has clothes left there and his own toothbrush.

Loves playing video games with you! Even if you’re bad. Will have you sit between his legs so he can help with your hand placement if it’s a single game. (In mario kart, his go to is princess rosaline or daisy)

Kung Fu Panda 4 Thoughts/Liveblog Thing

Just caught this at the theater for a grand total of five whole dollars, so I thought I'd do some quick opinions while it's fresh.

Non-spoiler opinion: It was Okay(TM), but the movies were considerably stronger as a trilogy. It's worth seeing one (1) time if you're a KFP fan (and really, who isn't), but I wouldn't bother paying full price for it or anything

SPOILERS FOR ALL 4 MOVIES UNDER THE CUT:

A list of things that slap:

The animation is stunning and fast-paced. Really loved the use of Chinese-style paint brush strokes to accentuate the action

Also I'll talk about the 5 later but I also really liked the animation change when describing where they are—all KFP movies have at least one animation shift and I'm glad this one kept up with it

Some of the fight scenes were super good, I liked the one that uses the tilting bar on a cliff in particular

(side note: the Missing Link did something similar, just on a ship. Go watch the Missing Link)

The Chameleon served straight cunt the entire time she was on screen and I kind of loved (almost) everything about her. Character design was incredible, voice was perfect, palace design was amazing, abilities were sick

Also the way she rides up chilling in a golden tree branch of all things? Fellas, we have no choice but to stan

Also I just appreciate the choice to both do a female villain for a change and to get a reptile in here after having only mammals and one (1) bird as villains previously

Speaking of character design there were a few really good ones in there, like a pangolin that moves Sonic the Hedgehog-style, a cool looking female boar, and a bunch of Komodo dragon henchmen. Good stuff

The jokes were a very mixed bag for me, some hit and some didn't. I will say that Zhen just going "that's great for you" in response to Shifu stating he's a red panda got me for some reason

If anyone hurts Po's gay dads I'm killing everyone in this room and then myself

Jack Black's cover of Baby One (1) More Time is unironically better than the original

A list of things that Do Not Slap:

Pacing/Plot:

This movie lacked a color scheme? KFP 1 was blue (also some gold), KFP 2 was red, KFP 3 was green. These colors weren't subtle either, there are entire scenes in each movie drenched in these colors and it was really obviously missing here

The whole first half the movie feels really breathless and too fast-paced. Apparently it was a studio mandate to have it not go over an hour and a half which is A) stupid and B) hurts the pacing

As much as I love Po's two gay dads we REALLY should not have been wasting time on their journey when the runtime is so tight

Also them tagging along felt off? Mr. Ping was worried sick about Po in KFP 2 but he doesn't tag alone because obviously he needs to let his son have his space. It's more in-character with Li Shan but it doesn't come across like he's talking Mr. Ping into it or something

In general there are so many plot points in this movie that feel under-developed. You could've made an entire movie out of the previous villains returning, Zhen and the Chameleon's relationship (see below), etc.

Po's Character:

People not knowing Po is the dragon warrior is weird, I'm pretty sure he would've been more well known than that

The entire thing with Po needing to give up his role as the Dragon Warrior doesn't really make sense? The Dragon Warrior is literally a made-up title. There's no need to have a Dragon Warrior because there is no such thing technically, it's why Oogway denied Tai Lung the title and then waited years and years to give it to Po. Like it's not a role that needs to be passed down, that's missing the entire point of the Everything

Also Po's only been like Dragon Warrior for a few years? I don't think we're ever given a time scale but it wasn't that long

The jokes about Shifu and Po having trouble with inner peace/mediating feels off given that was the entire plot of the second movie

It felt like Po regressed a bit character wise. He acts like he has no idea how to be a teacher in this movie but he already was a teacher by the end of the third, that was the entire point??

Also he seemed like he was more gullible in this movie but I could be wrong

Why is Po so impressed with Juniper city. He literally spent most of KFP 2 in Gongmen hello?? I think(?) Juniper is bigger but he shouldn't be acting like he has no idea what a city is

Zhen/Chameleon:

Zhen's character design doesn't match anything else, which is weird because most of the new characters in this film keep the distinct style in some form or another

Her wanted poster shows her with the bold markings KFP is known for and it looks SO much better

The plot twist with Zhen working for the villain was so obvious I did not realize it was supposed to be a twist at first

Also, the entire thing with Zhen was entirely unneeded? The Chameleon could've just just stood up and announced her plan to take over and Po would've shown up on her doorstep with the staff

I guess the idea is that Po needed to hand over the staff willingly for it to work? But if that's the case the Chameleon could've just impersonated Tigress or something and gotten it that way in like 1/3 of the time

Originally she was supposed to have kidnapped Shifu which would've been a much better plot point as it would've given Po extra motivation

The other problem with treating Zhen as a plot twist is that it hampers the relationship she has with the Chameleon effectively being her mom, which is FASCINATING. They had some really interesting chemistry together (the whole "stand up straight" thing as one example) and I could've seen it as a Mother Gospel from Tangled kind of deal, but we barely get any interaction between the two and it's like AAAAAAA

Fanfic writers fix this shit. I believe in you

I'll have to chew on it more but my pacing thought would actually be to start with Po finding out about the Chameleon's "take over everything" plan very early due to Shifu's kidnapping. He breaks into the lair like at the 1/3 mark or earlier and he meets Zhen inside which then leads into why she's doing what she's doing and the mother angle, etc etc blah blah

The Chameleon needed to just straight-up murder someone, comically shoving them down the stairs isn't good enough. I know stairs are Po's greatest enemy but I don't think that applies to everyone

Shen was allowed to stab someone on-screen so I think the Chameleon should be a allowed to strangle someone or something. as a treat

If violence was the concern just keep it off-screen like Master Rhino's death in KFP 2

The shapeshifter turning into a giant monster trope is overrated and I'm glad it was just used briefly here and not even for her defeat

Also the Chameleon's thing with her being rejected from Kung Fu because she's too small makes no sense b/c Mantis, which I'm pretty sure everyone's pointed out already. She does say "lowly" I think but was she ever poor? Could make a very interested parallel to Zhen if that was the case but it was never brought up again

I've heard some argue body image parallels w/ Po in KFP 1 but if that was the intent it's not explored, like, at all, which is a shame because it could've been an interesting angle

Also If they wanted a better excuse related to body image just say she was too frail instead of too small. I haven't owned chameleons but I've heard from people who have that they are very frail and very hard to keep alive, which would be a much better reason to turn her away

Cameos:

Yes I'm devoting an entire section to five second cameos don't judge me

I have mixed feelings on the Five not being present (save for the end cameos). On the one hand they are sorely missed but on the other hand they would've just made the plot bloat even worse

Lack of speaking was also bothersome. Part of me is glad they weren't recast with cheaper VAs because it's disrespectful to interchange them, but on the other hand that might've been better than just not having them speak and not paying anyone anyway

Tai Lung had all the best lines and was also the best used out of all the cameos, even if it would've been nice to have him on screen for longer. Also if they stuck with Shifu being kidnapped those two could've had some much-needed dialogue

Side note, while I don't think it contradicts anything from KFP 3 the spirit world having only kung fu masters in it feels off? It makes it seem so small and limited

Kai being there is weird. He's like. dead dead. Deader than dead. I guess you could argue that you can't kill something that's already dead but there's nothing even acknowledging this

Trying to take Shen's kung fu is really weird because the entire point of the fight with Master Rhino in KFP 2 is that he is not? a master?? like he's GOOD but he's not amazing, like if a master is like a 10/10 he's like an 8/10.

"The Chameleon has the powers of all my old nemesises!" WHAT'S SHEN'S POWER EXACTLY. HIS ONLY POWERS ARE GUN AND MOMMY/DADDY ISSUES

She does summon him way later than Tai Lung and Kai so maybe she was just camp spawning every single person she could think of regardless of skill level? she also uses his wings at one point so maybe she just wanted those, I don't think(?) there were other birds summoned

Though speaking of which she claimed she was using his wings but very clearly wasn't? not only were they black but they were raggedy and lacked the five longer feathers on the tips

Also Shen's model was super off, it looked way too fluffy and like an entire row of eyespots were missing from the edge of the train (which might have been a clipping error? unsure) it's been said the new models were made out of glue and popsical sticks and I believe it

Tai Lung has a habit of just like Grabbing anyone that's smaller than him and it amuses me

It's honestly really weird that everyone would just agree to go back into the spirit world willingly?

Like I think it works for Tai Lung because he's a noble person who just goes into a disassociative state and commits atrocities. Like I think he'd be willing to accept his death

Also it checks out for Shen because he killed himself and given his "dead belong in the past" mentality I can't imagine him wanting to stick around, he'd probably think it was unnatural

But Kai?? Kai was FURIOUS at being dragged back into the spirit world at the end of 3, like hell he'd just go quietly

Also I can see Tai Lung maybe respecting Po enough to bow to him but everyone else is pushing it unless they have therapists in the spirit world. Po offered Shen some nice advice at the end of KFP 2 and his response was to kill himself on the spot, I don't think him or Kai would be bowing

All of them were definitely in the middle of a mahjong match and were experiencing the equivalent of being woken up in the middle of a nap so they were just going along with things

I did like some of the more subtle callbacks. Stuff like Po seeing his reflection in the blade the way Shifu did or the "I can't even beat you to the stairs" scene were nice and not overly overt or in-your-face

If Po actively refers to himself as the "Kung Fu Panda" one more time I'm going to end it all

Gruß vom Krampus!

December 5th is Krampusnacht, and I've done some pieces related to that over the years. This year I decided to update my depictions of Stan and Ford in the older two pieces (from 2016 and 2017 respectively), and to put the three all together. The original piece from 2016 was done for the 2017 Hunkles calendar (December of course), and the sequel was done for New Years the following year, with the final pic in the sequence appearing in Dec. 2020.

As I said in the original post, my version of the Krampus is based on looking at traditional folk costumes actually worn by krampus figures in Austria for the Krampusnacht festival.

And finally, just to keep it all in one place: after posting the 2020 piece, I got an ask about the little collection of Pines dolls that hang off of Krampus's basket in the second pic, and that Stan is holding in the last pic. I went into a long explanation (including an overview of the Krampus tradition and celebrations), so I'll put it below a cut here:

Okay so like… the explanation is probably kind of dumb. And it’s me making stuff up, rather than relying completely on the actual folklore.

So the Krampus figure is actually a collection of figures from Central Europe, particularly in the Alps, and the specific traditions associated with the Krampus can vary from region to region and town to town. Thus, while a set of the Krampus tropes have kind of been exported and caught on in popular culture, that pop culture figure now only resembles *some* Krampus traditions. I don’t think it’s accurate to talk about “a” Krampus or “the” Krampus, exactly, because of that regional variation. It’s also worth noting that Krampus celebrations are very much alive in various towns in the Alps.

Generally speaking, though, Krampus is a “wild man” figure, often with a demonic face (mask), a furry body, and goat-like features (especially horns). There are some theories that the basic figure itself is pre-Christian (like a lot of the wild-man traditions of Central and Northern Europe). (I personally think that’s pretty plausible, given the range of costumes we see.)

After the advent of Christianity, though, the Krampus became associated with “the devil” or demonic figures. And eventually, in a lot of traditions within the Central European mountain area, Krampus got paired with St. Nicholas, as a kind of tag-team. St. Nicholas in those traditions is almost certainly one of the origins of Santa Claus, in that he rewards well-behaved children with presents. (But, traditionally he dresses like a bishop, and not in the outfit that a lot of Americans are familiar with.) The 6th of December is the Feast of St. Nicholas, so Krampusnacht (”Krampus night”) is the 5th of December. And Krampus acts as the opposite of St. Nicholas – if presents are a means of encouraging good behavior, then Krampus is the threat used to discourage bad behavior.

So, some of the accreted trappings of the Krampus are a whip and a bundle of birch branches, for beating children / people, and a basket that he carries on his back, into which he puts the naughty children he finds, to carry them off for punishment. (Obviously, the message there is: don’t be naughty or the Krampus will get you.) A number of the Krampusnacht traditions involve men costumed as Krampus running wild through the streets, threatening people with their birch branches or whips and so on, making noise (thus all of the bells worn around the neck) and kind of terrorizing people (not just kids), as a set-up for St. Nicholas to come in the next day and reassert order. (Sometimes it’s only “terrorizing” in an “all in good fun” sense, similar to Halloween scariness; but apparently in some towns, it can get kind of rough.)

So with all of that background… I was originally just looking for a sort of “crytpid” or monster for Stan and Ford to be fighting, with a December theme, for that 2017 calendar piece. They are encountering more of a magical, “real monster” version (rather than the folkloric ritual version), and therefore I took some liberties with the idea, even though I incorporated a lot of design elements from a variety of real Krampus costumes.

I didn’t want to put any actual children into Krampus’s basket for Ford and Stan to rescue, though (in the original calendar piece, they wouldn’t have been that visible). But when I did the second piece, I included the doll versions of the four Pines, hanging from Krampus’s basket, as a sort of… symbolic magical threat, an expression of the idea that the Pines are its supernatural targets. The dolls act as kind of representations of Krampus’s targets, and I also thought of them, in that sense, as a darker reflection of the St. Nicholas gift-giving tradition (still toys, but toys with a sinister meaning). If Krampus was a “real” supernatural being that goes around punishing the “naughty” or “wicked”… then what is its definition of “wicked”, and would it be a fair one, or unfair?

In this scenario, Stan and Ford are not in the mood to debate with it over whether it is fair to take them to task for being “naughty”, but they are DEFINITELY not going to stand for the idea that the Krampus might go after Dipper and Mabel, so – time to take it down!

Anyway, for more about the actual Krampus, I recommend taking a look at the Krampus article on Wikipedia, or listening to this excellent podcast (which I was listening to as I finished the piece the other day; am very interested in getting that guy’s book!).

Sally and Paul fighting!!

The Ares vs Apollo cabin fight. Honestly I think that was so good. Because it gave us a way to feel like Percy was going to fail. And it showed Clarisse’s fatal flaw.

Speaking of that I want more fatal flaw stuff.

Finally I want the moment when Ares shows approval of Clarise. That moment got me. Honestly I am a Clarisse stan.

Over all I’m just ready for more episodes of this show.

Alright, final thoughts on Inheritance.

Eragon continues to be the guy of all time. I love him. He really displayed a maturity in this book that I think supersedes anything we've seen of him in all the previous books, and just like... His strength really is that he is compassionate and thoughtful towards everyone. Even Murtagh, now, too. He had the realization of how close he was to sharing his fate, sought to understand him, and that was ultimately what led him to realizing his true name had changed, tearing down Galbatorix's wards, etc etc. I don't know that I could properly articulate everything about him here, but Eragon definitely became the hero he needed to be by the end of the series, 100%. He is the only person who could've possibly thought of the final piece of magic to defeat Galbatorix. Even the dreams of starlings are equal to the worries of a king. Ahhh, it's so good. ❤️ I'm so proud of him.

On the other hand, Barst was some bullshit. Bro. Like, on the one hand, it was a very good climactic battle for Roran to participate in, and his triumph was the perfect culmination of his character- cunning in battle, cunning in strategy, the intelligence and charisma to sway everyone around him into cooperating and working together, sheer determination so intensely strong that he was able to crush and Eldunarí with his bare hands. His role was perfect! But Barst as a villain was kinda... Well, first of all, he came completely the fuck out of nowhere. He wasn't mentioned at all until they were already on their way to Uru'baen, and then he was only MENTIONED. They didn't hype him up enough before the actual battle in my opinion. And ONE human and one Eldunarí being enough to beat the QUEEN OF THE ELVES in hand to hand combat...? I mean, I guess that could work but... Ehhh... I dunno. It kind of felt like an excuse for Islanzadí to die, and Roran to triumph more than anything. It was cool, but it was probably the weakest part of the plot in my opinion.

That said though I think it's pretty safe to say this was my favorite book of the series. I'm having trouble recalling all the iconic shit (I took a pretty long break from reading about halfway through the book) but there was soooo much cool stuff in here. The Nasuada being kidnapped and being helped by Murtagh arc is GOLD, Vroengard was amazing, and all the battles were SO well written??? I need to study these books more closely just to learn how to write compelling fight scenes. Honestly, it's gripping stuff. I was on the edge of my seat, despite knowing how everything turns out.

Nasuada is amazing, Arya is amazing, Saphira is amazing, Roran is amazing, MURTAGH is amazing... I think I already liked basically every character in this series going in, but I somehow like them even more now that I've read it again. Everyone is so good, and interesting, and I want to be everyone's friend. I think the only character I liked less this go around was Orrin (sorry to my Orrin stan friend out there). That said, though, I don't dislike him, I think I just went from positive to neutral about him.

Orrin honestly just didn't get nearly as much screen time as I remembered? We only see him a handful of times throughout the book and each time the only thing he's doing is getting drunk and making an ass of himself, though... Idk, he also has a point? He has his own unique point of view, and his own unique experiences that lead him to his own ideas of how to conduct things, and it is definitely kind of true that like no one ever really listens to him or takes him seriously, despite being the King of Surda for w while at that point. I don't think there was a more graceful solution to the division of power/territory after Galbatorix was killed than what was decided upon, because like... Realistically, Orrin was never gonna be high king. He had good reason to assert for the throne, sure, but actually ascending to the throne? That is SUCH a far reach for power, unless the aim was to assimilate Surda in and have all of the humans under one crown. Nah, Nasuada giving up territory and ascending to the throne was the better choice, even if I do empathize with Orrin's point of view. It seems like Nasuada did as well, because even though she was persistent, she seemed to be gentle and sympathetic with him. He even had his line about like... "Why do you even want to do this?" "None of you would understand." Idk. Very interesting, but not tremendously notable compared to others, and he definitely was a bit of an asshole at times.

Murtagh my beloved my BELOVED I'm honestly just gonna make a whole separate essay post about him because his shit is Complicated™️ but one little note it was such a small detail at the end but I love that he said to Eragon "Hey check in on Arya about killing Shruikan. It couldn't have been easy for an elf to kill a dragon." And Eragon hadn't even THOUGHT of that and Arya probably would've been the last thing on his mind but he still was just so thoughtful. He is thoughtful like his brother and he cares so deeply and AHHH!!! And actually I want to see him and Arya be buds. I think they would have a cool dynamic. And also I love that he never once hesitated to acknowledge Eragon as his brother and just wanted to be with him and finally Eragon also acknowledged him as a brother too that last scene with them was just so good 🥹

Also I love how Thorn's like only spoken line in the whole series (until November) is to boop Eragon on the forehead and say "Hi. Thank you for not killing my rider. :)" and Murtagh is just like "Yeah thanks for that. 😒"

Love how quick Saphira and Fírnen hit it off lol. They really played tag and wrestled for like five minutes and then were like "Alright we're gonna go fuck like now see y'all later ✌️" And Eragon's like "Is this??? Okay???" And Saphira's like "Pfft dragon's don't mate for life 🤷‍♀️" Their little romance was so cute.

CAN WE FUCKING TALK ABOUT QUEEN AND RIDER ARYA??? That shit is by FAR the wildest endgame decision Chris made because like. That. That's so fucking. Oh my god??? Like, one, poor Arya!! She just wanted to be a rider and have adventures! She probably would've either spent her time happy herrying eggs across Alegaësia, or she would've gone with Eragon to Mount Arngor, but you can NOT convince me that she would be particularly happy as queen. She's grieving the loss of her mother that she barely had a relationship with, and denied the other eleven leaders for a full week before they convinced her to do it!!! Girlie!!! You deserve to be happy!!! And, two, the obvious point of holy shit that is such an enormous power imbalance in favor of the elves. Like, there is a REASON the riders were separate in the first place!! And, you know, Galbatorix JUST died and now there is another rider/monarch and it's the ELVES who have historically been both the most powerful race, and the race with the best relationship with the dragons. And Arya is the ONLY RIDER LEFT IN ALEGAËSIA!!! Because Eragon is gone (and stubbornly convinced that He Shall Never Again Return Oh Woe Is Him) and Murtagh is... Also gone to an extent. He at the very least holds no political power. Basically everyone hates him, and those that don't can't do more than, like, pardon him, for whatever that's worth. I just can't see this not rubbing people the wrong way, and not coming to an eventual head. Nasuada and Arya are both great, but I just get the feeling there is going to eventually be some sort of conflict between them, no matter how much neither of them want it. I do think Arya is perhaps the least corruptible person, other than maybe Eragon but... I don't knowwww maaaan it's complicated!!

Also I regret to inform everyone that rereading the last little bit did make me ship Eragon and Arya a teensy tinsy itty little bit. Just a liiiiittle bit. Like idk the last fairth and the telling each other their true names and calling each other their true names and Eragon's grief at leaving and his vow to love her forever and her insinuation of maybe one day just got to me alright???

There were a lot of cool magic things in this book! Like the pocket space that the Eldunarí were kept in? Cuaroc's body? More shit that I'm forgetting? God I would just love, like, a magical encyclopedia or something idk. Lots of cool shit. And artifacts!! I want to learn about more magical artifacts.

Also at my Galbatorix stan mutual? I'm a certified Murtagh Girlie™️ and therefore obligated to hold a grudge but like. I do get it. He is a... Very competent villain.

Alright I think that's it for now but. Wow. Man oh man. There is a reason I love this series. I'll probably think of some more things to talk about later, and I'm gonna be participating in the Big Bang, and I'll probably post about The Fork, The Witch, and The Worm as I reread that but yeah!!! Can't wait for November!!

Okay, can I just say he's a bit startled by how...Aggressively encouraging you are? He thinks it's pretty fun, but he must admit he's very impressed by just how energetic you can be, mixed with your firm behavior as well.

He will never, ever say it out loud...But this boy is a bit intimidated by your physical power to be honest. Okay, he's pretty muscular, but he's not nearly as strong as you are.

But be prepared for him to still encourage and guide you whenever he gets the chance to. He thinks it's a good way to indirectly tell you that you're allowed to rely on others too sometimes and you don't always have to be strong.

You're a good partner on missions too. He respects the way you're so determined on upholding your duty and don't mess around, he's faithful that any enemy you may face is screwed as long as he's got you with him.

He understands why you'd prefer to rely on your physical force rather than your stand, he doesn't like using Purple Haze either. Even so, he does partially think that it's a bit of a waste not to put it in action, since yours doesn't put everything and everyone in danger as soon as it shows up.

Okay let's be honest, boy's probably got the physical strength of a little girl, unless he's angry.

Therefore, some advice or words of encouragement from you are always more than welcomed, they push him to better himself while still reminding him that he's already doing fine.

When you show him your more sentimental and awkward side, Fugo gets you so well. He may seem smart and all but he's an embarrassing simp himself.

So, you guys go together like two peas in a pod, you just feel very understood by the other and don't fear their judgment at all. You're both messes so you cancel your goofiness out.

I'm sorry but Abbacchio couldn't stand you at first.

Your whole behavior just reminds him too much of the person he used to be, and just looking at you feels like looking at himself in a broken mirror.

Tries to avoid you as much as he can, and when it's not possible, he's the rudest, meanest, coldest fucker around.

The two of you only started to get along after you either saved or was a huge help to him during a mission. He was taken aback by your raw sstrength, but literally all he did once this was over was calling you a moron for not using your stand.

Secretary, he thought it was the most badass scene he's ever assisted to in his life. No, he'll never say it directly, screw you.

Complains and claims that he isn't going to follow your orders, before doing exactly that. If you were to brought that up, he'll interrupt the conversation as soon as possible and simply tell you that he did it because he wanted to, not because you told him to or anything.

He acts annoyed everyone you encourage or hype him up, saying that he doesn't need your support, but from the way he always looks away and lacks his usual bitterness in his tone, you can tell that he secretly appreciates your efforts.

Slowly, very slowly, but surely, you begin to notice small shifts and changes in the way he treats you. He doesn't look at you with disgust, willingly follows your advice and overall feels more comfortable in your presence, even cracking a few smiles here and there.

You end up becoming a huge source of inspiration to him. He still sees a lot of the person he used to be whenever you're near him, yet he doesn't view it in a negative light anymore.

A small part of Abbacchio wants to go back to be the man with the string sense of justice he once used to be. You're a constant reminder that just because he made a mistake, that doesn't mean he can't make up for it or has to live stick in the past forever.

And just when he starts to respect you... You change too-

What the?- Is this really the Y/N he knows? The stern, serious one? The wise one? The responsible one?

Is he startled? Yes, yes absolutely. Then again, he HAS to admit to himself that you being in his life has led to him modifying his own behavior quite a lot, so he shouldn't be that surprised about you being different from your usual self as well.

He's not the best with your awkward or sensitive side, but he does what he can. He knows that emotional support is something he just has to give in a relationship, so he sucks it up and never makes you feel embarrassed for what you do or say.

He's most likely amused by your romantic nature and may think it's kinda cheesy, but he secretly loves it with all his heart, and wouldn't trade it for anything else.

Ok, Trish is a bit conflicted when it comes to you.

Like- she doesn't really have anything against you particularly. The thing is, she sort of has very split opinions concerning your behavior.

For example, she admires how stern and professional you are, how you seem to always have stuff under control and never be scared.

At the same time, however, the thinks that you sometimes take things way too seriously, you should learn to let loose a bit more and just enjoy life at it this.

Because of this, she tries to get you to break free from your shell and probably takes you dancing or shopping whenever she has the opportunity to.

Another example is that she loves when you act as her personal life coach. She's a very self-confident going lady and lives for praise...Especially from you, although don't expect her to tell you this often. You're always there to motivate her even on those rare occasions when she isn't feeling her best, she adores you for this.

BUT, she can't stand when you act all pushy and boss her around, she deposed being told what to do and there's a high chance she won't listen to you if she doesn't agree with you...At least during early times.

She'll become more willing to follow your advice if you're patient with her, but she'll always make it very clear that she doesn't think it's the best option.

No but like- the first time she saw you fight, her only thought was "Wtf?!"

She didn't think someone could possibly be as strong as you are, she just exchange concerns looks with Spice girl while encouraging you herself, even if you're already doing great.

Honestly, she doesn't question your personality shift too much. She knows that'd how people are: the more you get to know them, the more you realise they're fundamentally different from what you actually thought of them.

And honestly, since she does also begin to show her softer side herself when you get together, knowing you won't think less of her for being open about her feelings truly makes her glad to have chosen you as her partner.

In return, no matter how awkward you can be, you can expect Trish to 100% support and be there for you at any given time. Although she will tease you for getting flustered if she got the chance to.

She lives for your romantic side, it's literally her ideal relationship coming true. Being courted and loved and feeling all special...God, she adores it.

It had taken him a lot of time and effort to get rid of his alter ego created by Hydra and it wasn't fair to ask him to play that role again. You didn't care if it was for a couple of hours, you didn't think it was a good idea to let Bucky step back into the shoes of the Winter Soldier.

"It's the only way." Zemo tried to reason with you. "We need leverage if we want to get something from Selby."

"I can do it." Bucky spoke, making you take your intense murderous gaze off Zemo to rest your eyes on him. "He's right, doll. We need to do this. We have no choice."

"Bullshit, there's always another option." You grumbled, hoping your words would bring Bucky to his senses. "Sam, back me up here."

"She's right, Buck. We can't ask you to do this." Sam intervened, understanding the complexity of the situation. Zemo was asking him to relive his nightmares, his deepest traumas as if that was nothing. It wasn't fair and he was willing to find another way to get information if they needed it. He would never ask Bucky to do something like that for a mission.

However, he insisted that he would be okay. He assured you that he could handle it for a couple of hours and that he wouldn't be telling you that if it wasn't true. You snorted at his words, knowing full well that wasn't true. Bucky didn't always talk about what was going on with him, let alone about the things that had to do with that period of his life. Even Steve used to have trouble getting him to talk about his feelings and he was his best friend and the person he trusted the most in the whole world.

"Fine, then I'm coming with you." You said crossing your arms in a defiant pose.

"What? No, doll. It's too dangerous." Bucky was probably right, you were not a trained agent with years of experience in that kind of mission. You had joined the Avengers relatively recently, and you had spent most of that time in Wakanda with Bucky, caring for him and supporting him in the process of healing his mind. But that's why you refused to leave him alone. You had been with him in his worst moments and you weren't going to leave him now.

"I'll be fine." You shrugged. Bucky narrowed his eyes at you. He knew what you were doing and he didn't like it one bit. You were using his very logic against him in an attempt to get your way, but he wouldn't let you. At least not without giving you a fight.

"We don't have time to create a cover for you."

"You don't have to. I already have a reputation around here thanks to my… past activities." You weren't lying and Bucky knew it, defeat written all over his face. He tensed his jaw, pursing his lips into a thin line as he struggled to find an excuse to justify his stance. You gave him a smile, feigning innocence and he rolled his eyes.

"Really?" Zemo asked with surprise and you nodded.

"I used to work with Fiona." The mention of the woman's name was all Zemo needed to understand what you meant. Fiona was a well-known dealer of valuable artifacts who excelled at working for whoever paid her the most. She had raised you, treating you as if you were her own daughter, and had trained you—along with other kids your age—to steal for her. You had lived under her care and protection until you had crossed paths with Steve on a mission. He had made you reflect and realize that Fiona was just using you and that you deserved something much better. Shortly after that you joined the Avengers and got to know what a family really was.

"So it's settled then.” Zemo spoke again, interrupting the silent fight you were having with Bucky through simple glances. “We all have a part to play so I'll suggest we get to work."

Everyone spent the next few hours going over the plan and getting into character. Sam had the most work to do out of everyone, having to learn as much as he could about the Smiling Tiger in just a couple of hours in order to present a convincing characterization. Zemo and you didn't have to do much due to the fact that you wouldn't be taking on anyone else's personality. And Bucky chose to seclude himself from everyone, sitting in a corner, quietly observing the scene. It was part of his characterization process, mimicking the movement patterns of his hated alter ego.

When your eyes fell upon his figure you were momentarily startled, noticing how much he resembled the Winter Soldier. His body stood rigid, his posture straight and the muscles of his face contoured into a slight frown. But when you looked into his eyes you realized it was Bucky. His beautiful blue orbs showed emotion, something the Winter Soldier's gaze lacked. It hurt you to see him in that state. You wanted to go up to him and hug him, spread kisses all over his face until he had no choice but to smile, but you stopped yourself. He had gotten himself into that mess and now it was too late to back out. Besides, if you listened to what your heart wanted all you would do was expose your feelings for Bucky, and you weren't ready for that yet.

As the sun began to set everyone started to get dressed, changing out of your dirty combat clothes into attire appropriate for the occasion. Sam complained the whole time, mentioning that he looked like a pimp. You laughed at him until Zemo approached you with clothes he thought were appropriate for you. All amusement disappeared from your face as you refused to wear such a short and tight outfit, arguing that you didn't have to keep up appearances because you would be going as yourself. Then he revealed to you the little detail he had been planning from the moment you said you would join them. Zemo wanted you to pretend to be his date.

"That is ridiculous!" You laughed in his face. "No way! I'm not going to be around you for longer than necessary."

"Well, I think it's the perfect cover and it explains the rumors of you leaving Fiona to work with the Avengers." The laughter died in your throat when you heard those words. You didn't know the rumors had spread so far. Did Fiona have been badmouthing you in front of her clients?

"How exactly does that explain anything?"

"Simple, my darling. You left Fiona for me and all this time you've been working as a double agent just to help me get my hands on the Winter Soldier." You looked at Zemo for a few seconds, refusing to admit that his plan made sense. There was no way you would agree to pretend you were dating. You'd rather risk being discovered first.

"That's ridiculous. No one is going to care about me."

"Selby is a very paranoid person. That's why it's so important that we all play our roles to perfection." You rolled your eyes, grumbling in frustration. You knew Zemo was doing it on purpose. He wanted to annoy you, he enjoyed annoying others. He was an expert in the art of manipulation and you were convinced there was nothing he loved more than getting under people's skin. He did it with Bucky all the time and now he was trying it with you.

You hated him and were ready to tell him to go to hell if it wasn't for Bucky's voice interrupting you.

"Well, you said you wanted to come so…" You looked at him with narrowed eyes. What was that supposed to mean? Was he implying that you weren't ready for a mission like that? Because if that was the case you were happy to prove him wrong.

"Fine." You accepted reluctantly, taking the hideous outfit Zemo had offered you before disappearing behind the bathroom door.

You didn't know what had gotten into you. You didn't use to be a competitive person, but now all you could think about was proving to everyone how capable you were. Especially Bucky. Sure, maybe you weren't a Shield agent with years of experience like Natasha nor did you have incredible powers like Wanda, but you were still capable of participating in missions. You knew how to maintain a character to get what you wanted, Fiona had molded you to be the perfect thief. This wasn't your first risky mission and it wouldn't be your last either.

You didn't quite understand why Bucky's words had affected you so much, but you felt a strange need to prove your worth to him. Maybe it was because you wanted to impress him. Or maybe you wanted to show him that you belonged in that world as much as he did. A little voice in the back of your mind told you that you were looking to make him jealous, but you shut it up immediately, burying it deep inside you. No, that was ridiculous. You were there to do your job and show Bucky that he wasn't the only one who could take risks without a second thought, and that if he didn't like it when you did it then he should stop doing it himself.

You spent the trip to the bar sitting in the back seat of the car, squeezed between Sam and Bucky while Zemo rode in the front. You were uncomfortable, not because of the small space in the car—seriously, how did Bucky manage to be so big?—, but because of the outfit you were wearing. The black dress Zemo had given you was much tighter and more revealing than your normal clothes, and the high heels, though pretty, hurt your feet. You fiddled nervously with the seam of the dress, stretching the fabric in an effort to make it cover more than half of your thighs.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Bucky's voice whispering in your ear startled you. He had spent the entire drive in silence, watching the streets of Madripoor through the tinted windows of the car, so you didn't expect to hear him speak.

"Are you?" You glanced up looking at him through your lashes and arching an eyebrow defiantly. You wanted to prove a point and you wouldn't stop until you did.

Bucky clenched his jaw, holding back the urgent need to cover you with his jacket and take you to a safe place. He knew you were uncomfortable, he could read it in your face and body language. He knew you too well and was able to read past your defiant and confident attitude. But you didn't want to give in, so he remained silent. His eyes scanned your figure one last time, lingering a little longer than necessary on your exposed thighs, before returning his gaze to the car window.

When you reached your destination, Zemo immediately put his arms around your figure, drawing you to him. Bucky found it hard to maintain a neutral expression when all he wanted to do was take you in his arms and snap Zemo's fingers for daring to touch you. He managed to restrain himself, clenching his fists at the side of his body in anger. The bar was packed with people, hundreds of eyes settling on you as soon as you entered the establishment. He had to try hard to maintain his character no matter how much he hated being in that position.

There was a tension in the air as you made your way to the bar to order drinks. You could hear the whispers, people surprised to see Zemo, others wondering if that tall, strong man was truly the infamous Winter Soldier and a couple mentioning Fiona's name in the distance. You hated it. You hated being associated with her after all you had done to change your life. But you kept your cool, walking hand in hand with Zemo feigning happiness.

It's for the mission.

You settled in at the bar, waiting to be served. You scanned the room for potential threats and escape routes in case things went wrong. When your eyes fell on Bucky you noticed he was doing the same. His expression was rigid, but you could still see some of your Bucky in him. You were sure that to the rest of the people there was no difference, but you were able to notice it. Maybe it was because you had already seen the Winter Soldier a couple of times, the coldness in his eyes and the firmness in his stance something that was not easily forgotten. Or maybe it was because you spent more time than necessary admiring Bucky in secret, to the point where you were able to recognize his mood changes with a simple glance. Whatever it was, you were slightly relieved to see the humanity in his eyes, though not enough to completely erase your concern. You knew it couldn't be good for his mental health to get back into the Winter Soldier's mindset. You just hoped it would at least be worth it.

"Hello gentlemen. Miss." The man behind the bar greeted them with a slight nod. "Wasn't expecting you, Smiling Tiger."

"His plans changed. We have business to do with Selby." Zemo was quick to say, taking control of the conversation.

"The usual?" The man asked Sam and he nodded without giving it much thought. That was until the bartender took a snake from a jar, cutting the animal to take who knows what from inside it and add it to the drink.

"Ah Smiling Tiger, your favorite!" Zemo exclaimed, amused by the situation. A silence fell between you as you watched Sam horrified by the drink that had been placed in front of him. He looked at you for a moment and you tried to give him an encouraging smile.

"I love these!" Sam said in an attempt to hide the horror in his expression and convince himself that the drink wasn't so bad. After hesitating for a moment, buying himself time to mentally prepare, Sam drank his shot in one big gulp. You felt proud of him, if it were you in his place you weren't sure you could do that without throwing up.

After that scene you decided not to drink anything, so you turned your back to the bar and concentrated your gaze on the crowd of people. There was still a certain tension in the air and there were a couple of people who kept their eyes on you, but overall things were back to normal. People drinking and dancing on the dance floor, swaying their hips to the music without paying attention to their surroundings.

That was except for one man who didn't seem to be able to turn his gaze away from you. His eyes were fixed on Zemo, occasionally straying to the others, but always coming back to him. You wondered what he wanted, though you didn't need any specific details to know that he was trouble. You wanted to warn the others, but it was a difficult task when that man wouldn't take his eyes off you. You didn't want to be too obvious for fear that it would escalate the situation somehow, so you opted to stick to your role.

Wrapping your arms around your supposed boyfriend, you positioned yourself in front of Zemo, settling your body between his and the bar. His hands traveled to your hips immediately, pressing you against him. He gave you a charming smile and you had to fight every fiber in your being not to roll your eyes. You pulled your face closer towards his, your breaths mingling and noses almost brushing. To anyone else it looked like you were about to kiss. You could have sworn you noticed a hint of surprise in Zemo's eyes at your sudden boldness, convinced you were going to kiss him.

But that was not your goal. At the last moment you turned your face to the side and with a mischievous smile whispered in his ear. "There's a guy staring at us." Your hands ran up his chest until you found a place on his neck. Your fingers fiddled with the ends of Zemo's hair, trying to keep up appearances so no one would get suspicious.“I think he wants trouble.” Your lips brushed his earlobe as you spoke and you felt him shiver. You pulled away with a triumphant smile, returning your attention to his face.

“And you want to put up a show for him, my darling?” Zemo spoke in a playful tone with an arrogant smile planted on his face.

"I'm just warning you because I don't want this mission to go to shit." You murmured against his lips, your grip on his hair tightening menacingly. "He could kill you for all I care, but we still need you so I'd rather you stay alive for a couple more hours." Despite the coldness of your words, Zemo's smile only widened. You wanted to slap him to wipe that arrogant expression off his face, but you restrained yourself because you saw that someone was approaching out of the corner of your eye. "He's coming." You warned before releasing Zemo and returning to your position next to him, between his body and Sam.

Your eyes searched Bucky for a brief moment, embarrassed that you had to do that little number in front of him. His gaze was fixed somewhere on the horizon. He was tense, you could tell by his stiff expression and the position of his shoulders, although you didn't know if it was due to the situation in general or to what you had just done. You hoped it wasn't because of the latter, you didn't want him to get mad at you for fake-flirting with Zemo. Though the way he avoided your gaze told you otherwise.

"I got word from on high, you ain't welcome here." The voice of that mysterious man brought you out of your thoughts.

"I have no business with the Power Broker, but if he insists he can either come talk to me," said Zemo gesturing towards Bucky in an implied threat. "Or bring Selby for a chat." The man walked away after keeping his gaze on Zemo for a few seconds longer than necessary. You let out the breath you hadn't realized you were holding, relieved that the situation hadn't escalated. For a moment you really thought things wouldn't end in violence, at least not this early in the mission. But then another man approached you and this time Zemo ordered the Winter Soldier to attack him.

You bit your tongue to keep from letting out a startled yelp as you watched Bucky deliver the first blows. He was acting in a way you hadn't seen him act in a long time, using his metal arm on his opponent to generate more damage. You knew he was acting, using a couple of key moves to fool everyone in the bar, but it still hurt to watch. Your stomach sank as you watched him fight multiple people at once, seemingly indifferent to the damage he might be causing them. In the frenzy of the fight you couldn't see Bucky's eyes, you couldn't notice in them his special characteristic glow that attracted you so much, so you had no way of distinguishing him from the Winter Soldier.

It saddened you because you knew Bucky would feel bad when all this was over. You were sure that with every blow he delivered he was reliving something from his past, memories that would haunt his thoughts for a long time. It broke your heart to think about it. All you wanted to do was run to him and force him to stop, wrap him in your arms and not let go until the bad moment was over, but you restrained yourself.

"Didn't take much for him to fall back into form." Zemo said while watching the fight. You and Sam gave him murderous looks, silently blaming him for the situation your friend was in.

When Bucky grabbed his opponent by the throat, dragging him to the bar to strangle him, everyone in the bar pulled out their guns, ready to shoot you. Sam grabbed Bucky by the arm in an attempt to stop him, but Zemo interrupted him. "Stay in character or the whole bar turns on us." He whispered before ordering Bucky to release the man.

"Selby will see you now."

Things went off the rails so quickly that you barely had time to react. Not that they were very on track to begin with, but they weren't too bad. Selby believed your stupid story about infiltrating the Avengers in order to get to the Winter Soldier and gave you some interesting details when you offered to hand him over in exchange for information. You hated referring to Bucky as if he were an object, a weapon you just had to aim to hurt your enemies, but you put up with it because Selby gave you a new piece of the puzzle. However, before you could finish negotiating with her, Sam's cell phone started ringing and everything went downhill from there.

She discovered that Sam was an imposter, but before she could hurt him, she was shot dead. You escaped the scene before being found and blamed for her fate, but it wasn't enough. From one second to the next you found yourselves running through the streets of Madripoor, escaping the hail of bullets aimed at you. In the midst of the chaos, a bullet grazed your leg causing you to stumble and fall. Luckily for you, it hadn't hit any major arteries, although there was more blood coming out of the wound than you would have liked. Bucky rushed to your rescue, taking the weapon from your attacker and knocking him unconscious with a single blow. He then helped you up and you took the opportunity to get rid of the high heels that were hurting your feet before standing up. They were probably worth a lot of money, but that was the least of your worries at that moment. Your life depended on your ability to run and move freely, so you didn't hesitate for a second to leave them forgotten in the middle of the street.

'Good luck to whoever finds them.' You thought as you walked away leaning on Bucky so you wouldn't fall.

Sharon saved your life at that moment, appearing suddenly in the dark street where you were seeking cover. It took some convincing to get her to help you, seeing as you were working with Zemo, but in the end she agreed. She took you to her house—a mansion filled with stolen art—, where you could rest and process the information you had obtained. While everyone was talking, you collapsed on the couch pressing a cloth over your wound to stop the bleeding. Sharon left you a first aid kit on the coffee table before disappearing behind the doors to get everything ready for her clients. The others followed her, except for Bucky who stayed with you to help you.

Sitting on the opposite end of the couch, he removed your hands from your leg and stretched it across his lap so he could examine the wound more closely. As soon as his fingers made contact with your skin, a shiver ran down your spine. You watched him work in silence, admiring his face in the warm light of the room. His hands brushed your leg gently, cleaning and disinfecting the wound before stitching it. His metal hand was a little cold, but you didn't care. All you could think about was how much you loved feeling him so close. For a moment all the pain disappeared from your body as you relished in the warmth his touch awakened on your skin.

However, even though his touch was gentle you couldn't help but notice the frown that graced his face. It was as if his hands and his expression were demonstrating two completely different emotions, as if they were not part of the same person. You bit your lower lip nervously as you wondered what thoughts were running through his mind. You had an idea of what he might be thinking, so you tried to strike up a conversation in hopes that he would open up to you as he had done many times in the past.

"Are you okay?" Your soft voice broke the silence of the room. Bucky looked up from the bandages he was placing on your leg to look at you for a moment before nodding.

"Yeah, I'm alright." He assured you even though his voice and expression told you otherwise. Bucky sounded... cold, distant, and for a moment you wondered if you had anything to do with it.

"Are you sure?" You insisted and he nodded again, lowering his gaze to continue his work. You remained silent for a few seconds, until the silence seemed unbearable. "Are you mad at me?"

"No, I'm not mad at you, doll." Bucky said, closing the first aid kit as he finished bandaging your leg. "I'm just frustrated."

"Frustrated?" You repeated with confusion. That was something you didn't expect to hear him say. Why would he be frustrated? Was it because of the mission and having to work with Zemo? Or was it because Selby had died before she could give them any more information?

"I told you it was dangerous. You shouldn't have come with us." He said in a firm tone, confusing you even more.

"I wasn't going to leave you guys alone. We're a team."

"You could have died, Y/N!" His voice was serious and in his eyes you were able to sense genuine concern. "I shouldn't have let you come."

"Excuse me?" You spoke in a surprised tone, watching Bucky with raised eyebrows. "Let's get one thing straight, you don't let me do anything. I'm a big girl and I can make my own choices." The mood in the room changed completely, the tension getting increasingly heavier in the air. You were glad to know that he cared about you, but he was in no position to dictate your actions. You were free to decide how and when to risk your life if that was what you wanted to do, just as he repeatedly did. If you didn't have a say in his decisions then why should he have a say in yours?

"If that bullet curved a few more inches you could have bled out in the streets."

"You could have died too! They were shooting at you too, you know."

"I can take it." Bucky shrugged it off and you rolled your eyes. You were tired of him doing that.

"Well, so can I. I'm perfectly fine, see." You jumped up from the couch, but immediately regretted it when a twinge of pain assaulted your wound. You tried hard not to show it, though you were pretty sure Bucky was able to notice your discomfort anyway. "You have to understand that you are not the only one that can risk his life without even thinking about the consequences."

"You're unbelievable!" He exclaimed, shaking his head.

"I'm unbelievable? What about you?"

"You risked your life just to prove a point?"

"No, I risked my life because my friends were risking theirs." It was a half-truth. A part of you had decided to go because there was no way you were going to leave them alone with Zemo in a bar in Madripoor. But another part of you had done it for Bucky, to show him that you were capable of going on missions, but more importantly, to make him understand how frustrating it was for you when he took risks without even thinking about the consequences. Although you weren't going to admit that last part. "You know what? I'm too tired for this shit. I'm not gonna keep arguing with you about it."

You began to walk toward the door with some difficulty. You intended to leave him alone, to stay away from him until you both calmed down and could talk like civilized people. But Bucky opened his mouth again, blurting out a comment you couldn't ignore.

"That's right, run off to your new boyfriend. He's probably waiting for you downstairs." You stopped dead in your tracks when you heard him say that. So that's what his bad mood was about. He was all grumpy and bitter because he was upset about Zemo. Unbelievable!

"You know what? Maybe I will!" You exclaimed in exasperation, turning to look at him. Bucky had his arms crossed over his chest, muscles flexing deliciously. You wanted to slap him because it wasn't fair that he looked so good while you were fighting. "At least Zemo doesn't act like a complete asshole."

You turned and continued on your way, reaching the door and taking the handle in your hands. You barely managed to separate the wood from the frame a couple inches before it closed again with a loud thud. You flinched in surprise and when you looked up you discovered Bucky's metal hand resting on the door just above your head. How had he reached you so quickly and so silently, you didn't know. All you knew was that he had done it and didn't seem to want to move.

You pulled on the doorknob once more, but the door didn't budge under the pressure Bucky was exerting on the wood. So you turned to look at him one more time and if you weren't so upset you were sure the air would have caught in your throat at the closeness. "Bucky, let me go." You protested, but before you could say anything else the super soldier's lips crashed against yours.

There was nothing soft or gentle about the kiss. Bucky's lips moved desperately against yours, his tongue exploring your mouth curiously. His right hand cupped your face while his metal one wrapped around your waist, pulling you even closer to him. It took you a few seconds to comprehend what was happening, but when you did you kissed him back with the same fervor, losing yourself in the warmth of his body. Your hands found their place in his hair, tugging lightly on the dark locks in a desperate attempt to pull his face even closer to yours to deepen the kiss. Bucky let out a soft growl and you felt your pulse quicken. Holy shit, he was hot.

"You were killing me in there, doll." Bucky muttered, pulling away from you to catch his breath. His voice was deeper than normal and you loved it, every word that came out of his mouth went straight to your core. "Letting him touch you and pull you close, acting like you were his." His lips trailed down your neck leaving a path of wet kisses across your skin. You tilted your head to the side to give him better access, closing your eyes as you lost yourself in the heat his touch aroused inside you. You were completely at his mercy, letting him mark you as his.

"Bucky…" you moaned his name as he sucked a mark on the sensitive area just below your ear. "Please." You didn't even know what you were begging for. Your brain had stopped working, overwhelmed by the attack of Bucky's lips on your skin. He was all you could think about, all you could smell and feel. His scent assaulted your nostrils and the heat of his body enveloped you completely. But somehow that wasn't enough. You wanted more, so much more. And so did he.

“What?” Bucky spoke against your lips, your quickened, choppy breath mingling with his. You looked up at him through your lashes and in his eyes you noticed something you had never seen in them before. He was looking at you with desire, his pupils slightly dilated as he admired your face in the dim light of the room. “You wanna go with him, huh? Is that it, doll?”

He was teasing you. He knew there was nothing you wanted more than to feel his lips on yours again, he could read it in your eyes, feel it in the way your hands clung to his shoulders, desperately trying to pull him closer to you. But he wanted to hear you say it. He wanted to hear you say that you wanted him and no one else, that his hands were the only ones you wanted on your body and that his lips were the only ones allowed to kiss you. He wanted confirmation that he wasn't the only one who felt that way.

So you gave him what he wanted.

“I want you, Bucky. It’s always been you.”

Your brain was short-circuiting so you couldn't put into words everything you really felt for Bucky. There was so much more you wanted to tell him, but you didn't have the ability to do so now when your legs were shaking, threatening to drop you to the ground if Bucky's metal arm wasn't holding you up by his grip on your waist.

However, your little confession seemed to be enough for him as he brought his lips back to join yours. You let out a desperate moan at the contact, reveling in the softness of his lips. When Bucky rested his hands on the back of your thighs, you jumped without a second thought. The pain of your injury was forgotten as you locked your legs around his hips, clinging to his broad shoulders for support. His lips never left yours as he used his big, muscular body to trap you against the door, your tongues intertwining in a sinful dance.

You could feel him. All of him. His chest pressed against yours, the muscles of his back flexing with every little movement, his hands pressing you against the outline of his growing erection. You got drunk on him as you kissed, trying to memorize every detail of his body and the way it felt to be trapped in his arms. You wanted more. You needed more. Your center throbbed with desperation so you moved your hips in search of some friction. Bucky's chest vibrated with a low moan, his hands gripping your ass tighter before pulling away from the door.

He walked with you in his arms until he reached the couch, where he carefully dropped down without taking his lips off yours. You straddled his lap with one leg on either side of his thighs, his hands gripping your waist. The new angle allowed you to feel him in a different way. Your short dress had ridden up even higher, exposing your covered center. Bucky settled back on the couch and you let out a slight moan at the subtle brush of his pelvis against yours. Your skin was on fire and so was his. You let your hands travel down his body under his shirt, trailing your fingers over every inch of skin you were able to reach until Bucky had enough and decided to remove his shirt.

When his chest was exposed you trailed your wet kisses down his neck, sucking and biting his skin as a way of marking your territory, just as he had done with you seconds before. Bucky tightened his grip on your waist as he pulled his head back to give you more room to continue your assault on his body. He was enjoying being claimed as yours more than he would like to admit, letting out a series of incoherent moans each time you sucked on his sensitive parts.

In the heat of the moment, your fingers brushed over the scars on his left shoulder and a couple of seconds later your lips made contact with the area, spreading kisses all over his skin. You started at his left collarbone, moving slowly towards his shoulder until your lips made contact with the metal, and then you moved back up. These kisses were different from the rest. They were not wet and desperate, but slow and full of love. They were a silent way of showing him how deep your feelings for him were. A way to tell him you wanted more than a one night stand with him without having to use words.

Bucky opened his eyes as he noticed the change in the mood. And when he saw you there, showing love to one of the parts of his body he hated the most, his heart squeezed in his chest. A wave of heat washed over him, but it wasn't lust or jealousy as he had previously felt. This time it was love. Love that coursed through his whole body, filling him with that euphoric feeling he didn't think he would ever be able to feel again after all he had been through.

And then he knew he could no longer deny what he felt.

Bucky pulled you off his chest, lifting your face so he could look into your eyes. His flesh hand caressed your cheek, delighting in the way you closed your eyes and leaned into his touch. He slid his fingers delicately across your skin until he reached your chin. When you opened your eyes again you found his intense gaze locked on your lips. His thumb gently caressed your lower lip before his eyes focused on yours again.

"I love you." It was barely a whisper, as if he was afraid to say those words out loud. But you heard it and your heart burst with joy at the confirmation that your feelings were reciprocated.

You took his hand between yours, bringing it to your lips to place a delicate kiss on the back of it, a subtle way to calm his nerves. His eyes followed your every move, admiring your face as he waited for a response. "I love you too." You whispered before joining your lips again, only this time it was in a slow kiss charged with love and affection.

It was the kind of kiss you always imagined sharing with him, your lips moving together in perfect harmony as you allowed yourself just to feel. Feel the love you had fought so hard to suppress. Feel the intimacy of the moment and the sheer bliss that came over you at the proximity. Feel how well your lips seemed to fit together, like two pieces of a puzzle, and how right it was. Feel the true extent of your connection.

"Ah finally! Seems like everything worked out according to plan." Zemo's voice forced you to separate. According to plan? "I'm glad, I was getting tired of the sexual tension in the air whenever you to where in the same room. I would love to leave you alone to… continue this, but Sam is looking for you."

Without another word, Zemo disappeared behind the door leaving you looking at each other in confusion. So that had been his plan all along, huh? You couldn't say you were mad at him. Yes, maybe the manipulation and mind games were annoying, but at least this time they had worked in your favor.
