— “ MAKE-UP “  Content tags: Gender Neutral Reader, Suggestive, Un-edited. Prompt: Vil does your Halloween make-up (or) Vil does your make-up. (In case you don't celebrate Halloween)
Tumblr media
Vil hummed, his hand traveled from your thigh to around your waist, his soft fingers touched your sensitive skin bringing you both closer than you both were before—your chest practically touching his own as his other hand fiddled with his makeup box. You could feel his hot breath linger on your neck as he searched for some sort of lipstick shade or whatever; your mind blanked on the minor details, a part of you was still confused as to how you got here, sitting on his lap as he does your makeup.
You didn't quite expect this—not once did it occur to you, that you'd end up in this compromising situation. Vil's hands gripped your waist tighter, his nails slightly digging just a bit deeper on your sensitive skin knocking you back to reality, he muttered a harsh, "Stay still" and you paused in place.
His soft fingers gently grazed the red nail marks, as if to apologize for his previous harshness. You closed your eyes tightly as you felt something outlining your lips—'Lip liner?', you opened your eyes, only to find him staring intently back at you, his violet eyes gazing at your lips, going over the outline, you could feel his warm breath, you could feel his chest rise and fall with every breath, his lips mere inches away from your own—And then he backed away, and the next thing you felt was a cold wet tissue, wiping away some mistake he made and you could see the way his brows furrowed in slight annoyance.
Somewhere along the lines everything blurred and the next thing you heard was; "Close your eyes", and you did, but for some odd reason it felt harder than before, your eyelids twitch as you try your best to keep them closed, you felt Vil's hands hold your face up high, his soft fingers grazing your chin pulling you upwards, and after a few moments you hear chuckling, "Why do you look so scared, like a rabbit"

Bobbing for Apples with Malleus
This is part of a Halloween collab sponsored by @jade-s-nymph. Do check out some of the other Halloween stories coming out on their page!
Tumblr media
He looks at you flatly before returning his gaze to the barrel.  Then, he puts one long elegant finger to his chin as though to ponder the situation.  “I promise,” you assure him, “It’s a real thing!”  Malleus tilts his head slightly, letting one of his long trailing locks brush his shoulder, “And what am I to do once I’ve captured this water-bound fruit?”  You shrug again, “Nothing really.  That’s it.  You just fish the apple out of the barrel with your teeth and that’s all.”  He returns his gaze to the barrel holding several prime Harveston apples (courtesy of Epel) and again, seems to deeply ponder the meaning behind the game.
You nervously wait for his response, but none was forthcoming; he appeared content to observe the waiting fruit indefinitely.  Finally, you ask, “Should I go first?”  While you’d thought Malleus content to merely onlook, you were proven wrong by the appearance of a pouty scowl.  He gives you a hurt look, “I’m simply strategizing before showing my skills.”  You hold in a smile, “Oh, I see.  That’s a great idea.  I’m sure you will show me something interesting then.”  His scowl clears and he gives you a confident smirk, “Be certain to observe me closely, my Child of Man.”
There was no chance you’d disobey that order.  As his gaze returns to the apples, your gaze returns to him.  You really didn’t care if your paramour impressed you with his apple catching skills or not.  You were just happy to have this time to be by the elusive Prince’s side.  As he presses his index finger to his bottom lip in concentration, he further exposes his brilliant white fangs.  While everything about the lovely fae catches your eye, those differences between human and fae stand out most.  You linger over the way the fang brushes against his soft lip, puckering the flesh around it.  An amused chuckle emerges from the same mouth, and you know you’ve been caught staring.
You look down, suddenly shy at the attention.  “Are you so eager to see me begin?” Malleus asks with a bemused smile displaying his satisfaction, “Very well then, I shall show you the strategy I’ve decided upon.”  You step away from the barrel, giving him room to make his attempt.  You watch in anticipation, knowing that regardless of his success, you are about to witness the rare sight of Malleus engaging in a whimsical activity.  It was good that you were attentive for the attempt is over disappointingly fast.  It seems that Malleus had indeed developed a successful strategy of herding the apples into a group before attempting to grasp one with his teeth.
You smiled at the proud fae displaying his caught prize and gave a little clap.  “Yay, nice job.”  He preens a touch under your praise before his face screws up in frustration.  You look at his puzzled, “What is it?”  He reaches up and tugs at the apple firmly secured in his mouth and you realize that he can’t remove it; the apple has become caught in his sharp fangs.  “Pfft,” you try to hold in the laugh, but it is too much for you.  Malleus glares at you as he continues to struggle to remove the trapped fruit from his open jaw.  “I’m sorry,” you gasp out, “it’s just so surprising is all.”  Having his lover see him in such a state seems to push him over the edge and with one powerful motion, he crushes the apple between his strong draconic jaw.
You turn away, not daring to meet his angry stare as he spits mushed apple from his mouth and huffs a small puff of flame as well.  He seems more upset than usual.  The murderous gaze he throws at the unassuming apples as he mutters under his breath chills you thoroughly.  “Say Malleus,” you try to redirect, “Why don’t we forget bobbing for apples and go do something else?”  He shoots you and angry pout, the tips of his fangs just barely visible in his pursed lips, “No more apples.  I’m going to write a strongly worded letter to the procurer of these faulty fruits.”  You cringe, thinking of the reaction Epel will have to hearing criticism of his apples.  “But apples can be nice too!” you try to convince him, pulling his hand to another stand.
Malleus frowns when he sees the caramel apple stand.  “Come on, give it a chance,” you beg as you squeeze his hand, “they are nice and sweet.  I promise!”  He huffs at you but allows his precious human to convince him to continue.  You bound up to the stand and pluck an apple from the display, setting the required amount of madol in the jar for payment.  You smile encouragingly at Malleus as you take the first sticky bite, letting the sweetness of the caramel candy mix with the juicy flesh of the apple in your mouth.  “Mmm,” you sigh happily before holding out the apple to your companion, “It’s good.  Try a bite.”
He grasps your hand instead of taking the apple himself.  After maneuvering it to his mouth, he turns the apple to take a bite from the same place you’d had yours from.  You felt your cheeks grow warm at the sight of it.  “Indirect kiss…” you mumble.  His eyes meet yours and you see his pupils dilate slightly.  He’d heard you.  Of course, he had.  Stupid powerful fae hearing.  You turn your head to the side, avoiding his gaze.  “Would you prefer a direct one instead?” Malleus purrs into your ear.
You gasp and turn unconsciously to face him again.  Then it is your turn to pout, “Don’t tease me.”  His eyes narrow in mischief as he replies, “Child of man, when have I denied you anything?”  You look at him for a moment, trying to control your emotions before answering.  “Fine then,” raising your chin in a haughty manner, “but only for the apple.  I’m not finished enjoying the taste.”  His smile takes your breath away moments before his kiss does.  You feel his fangs lightly nip at your lips as you taste just the smallest tartness of the apple lingering on his own.  When you break apart, you whisper, “See, I told you that you’d like these ones.”  He smiles as he pulls you close, “Yes, it was very sweet indeed.”

sunday hauntings || rook hunt
Tumblr media
there's a church in fleur city that's been abandoned for several decades, now used as a tourist attraction. despite what the townspeople think, rook decides to investigate.
a/n: @twistedchatterbox i'm so sorry TT^TT accept it super super late sobbing
word count: 646 words
Tumblr media
"listen to me, mon petit fleur. we could go there, explore, and be out before the sun sets! there is little to worry about if i am by your side!" rook exclaims dramatically on your lap as your hands card through his hair gently. "we could even go to the old church a distance away from noble bell college, non?"
"i heard the residents don't really like it when tourists try to explore that place beyond what they allow," you start, pausing your ministrations on rook's hair. "i'd rather not earn their ire, y'know?"
"ah, mon coeur! tu es belle quand tu t'inquiètes pour moi! but do not worry. we shall in and out as quickly as we can! i shall go in and explore while you distract them!"
"rook, you have got to stop looking like an excited puppy when you decide to commit crimes."
"does that mean you agree, mon fleur?"
standing outside the church a few hours later as the sun sets, you have never more regretted loving rook, your lover hopping swiftly from brick to brick onto the roof of the church, hidden from the view of the church caretakers and other tourists (including ruggie, jamil, and azul, who you were with today).
"shall we, [name]?" azul questions behind you as you turn and nod, and you only send a quick prayer-of-sorts to the seven (?), pitying anyone who would come across your boyfriend. you swear you can hear his chuckles echo in the passageways up above and the catacombs down below, which also makes you wonder whether he also has the ability to "split card" like cater does.
the church was large and sparsely decorated, and rook's weird-as-fuck chuckles echoing around didn't help the mood, with many of the sisters and priests from the other churches leaving as soon as they could. "what's the big deal?" ruggie yawns as a sister stares at him aghast.
"what's the big deal?" she says, approaching the group fearfully. "this church was where... where the city was first established. rumours are that this church was built on top of an ancient cemetery, and...." she gulps fearfully, "and the noises from down below are a sign. a sign of danger, prophesied more than 700 years ago."
"wow," azul blinks. "that's... mildly terrifying."
"mildly?!?!" jamil shrieks as you cover your ears. "how are you so calm right now? there's something in the damn catacombs!!"
"indeed," the sister agrees. "i was asked to usher you all out so we may conduct an investigation at a later date."
"later date, my ass, and i mean that respectfully, 'course, sister," ruggie huffs, "but i came to be spooked, and since we're mages, why don't to let us get in and chuck that creature out?"
"could be a bear, bucchi."
"a bear's milder than leona, that's for sure. have you seen the guy been pissed off?"
"how is leona worse than an animal than can LITERALLY MAUL US TO DEATH?"
"CAUSE LEONA CAN MAUL US TO DEATH TOO?????"
as an argument over whether to leave or stay started up front, you heard a quiet bonsoir from under your feet, mouth gaping as rook climbed his way out of the catacombs. "mon coeur, tu m'as manqué! the catacombs are wonderful, and- where are all the people?"
"evacuated over your hehehehehehehs in the catacombs!" you hiss, pulling him to your level. "the sister in front of us is scared shitless! apologise!!"
"oui, oui, bien sûr!"
nodding at you lover, you make your way to the front of the group. "um," you start, shuffling from the back of the crowd, dragging a messy rook (how did you not notice that before?) with you. "he's the culprit of the catacombs. he likes exploring weird places. he's very sorry, i promise."
"rook?!!?!?!?!" the others exclaim as the sister faints.
"great, ya killed the fuckin' sister, rook."
Tumblr media
translations:
mon petit fleur - my little flower non - no ah, mon coeur! tu es belle quand tu t'inquiètes pour moi! - ah, my heart! you are beautiful when you worry for me! tu m'as manqué - i have missed you oui, oui, bien sûr - yes, yes, of course

Invitation to the Midnight Masquerade-Leona Kingscholar x Fem! Reader!
Tumblr media
For the Halloween writing collab by @twistedchatterbox: Day 6: Secret Invitation.
Warnings: none, just pure fluff!
Word Count: 300 words.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a cold autumn day at the Ramshackle Dorm. (Y/N) was in the lounge, just chilling out by the fire and busy doing your homework. As for Grim, he was trying his best to focus on his studies, but he would get distracted in-between with some open cans of tuna.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. (Y/N) paused in your work and went to answer the door. When you opened the door, you saw that there was no one there.
You looked to the left and to the right, but there was not a soul in sight. Then, you turned your eyes down towards the floor. On the wooden floor, right near your feet, there was a pristine white envelope with gold decor.
You looked for the name of the sender, but you found none. As you tore open the envelope, (Y/N) could see that it was an invitation to attend the Midnight Masquerade ball hosted at the Sunset Savanna palace by the royal family. And so, after Vil and Rook helped (Y/N) and Grim get all dolled up, you both headed over to the Sunset Savanna to attend the ball.
Once there, you saw that the ballroom is filled with guests wearing luxurious costumes. As Grim dashed towards the buffet table, (Y/N) took the time to enjoy your surroundings.
Then, you saw him. Amongst the crowd was a dashing man clad in a pirate costume complete with golden pearls, coral and seashells. When your eyes met, you instantly recognized him. Leona Kingscholar, prince of the Sunset Savanna and your biggest crush.
He approached you and gently offered you his hand. You curtsied, took his hand, and soon, the two of you were waltzing across the ballroom floor, your feet gliding across as you spun and twirled.

The walls were dangerous, but not unclimbable. They scraped your knees and rubbed angrily against your skin, but you persevered onwards. Crimson beads of blood could be seen on the dull grey rocks if one cared to look carefully. There was a light in your eyes that couldn't, no, wouldn't be extinguished no matter what the elders of your village said.
"J-Just, just a bit more!" You grunted as your blister-covered hands finally grabbed onto a flat surface and you pulled yourself up with all the remaining stress you had in yourself. "This is for Rook..."
You could imagine Rook's deep, rich laughter and feel his curious gaze on you. You could practically hear him say, "Mon ami, just a bit more! There's so much beauty in climbing a cliff instead of just flying up here, isn't there?"
"Fuck that, Rook," You muttered and heaved yourself up. Lying on your back, you let out exhausted exhales and shakily pumped your fist in the air. "Made it at last!"
The sky seemed closer than ever. If you reached up, you could practically touch the wispy clouds. But the strange, slightly acidic air and the eerie silence of the wilderness reminded you of your duty and you crawled onto your feet.
"Holy shit...."
The castle, named 'Pomefiore', was covered in thorns and thick veins. The stonework was crumbling and cracking and the rusted chains on the drawbridge creaked as you walked across it. You vividly remembered climbing up here with Rook years ago; the moat was a crystal blue color that made the blond ramble and gasp with awe. Now, you crouched, and instead of sapphire blue, gooey thick green slurp stared back at you. A bubble formed and hissed as it popped; you flinched back.
"What happened to you?" You murmured, pressing a hand to the large double doors. They screeched as you pushed, grunting as you did so. It was dark inside. You twirled your purple-gemmed pen in a familiar motion and a small orb of light formed.
You laughed, staring at the orb. "Professor would be proud that I managed to do so...can't wait to show Rook!"
Rook Hunt...cold water drowned you, reminding you of what you were here for again. You sobered up. Pointing your pen forward, you slowly crept forward, attentive to each and every whisper of wind in the nooks and crannys of the castle.
A week ago, Rook had arrived at your house with a skip in his step and adrenaline glinting in his emerald eyes. He had come to you with a proposition - to join him on a journey to the haunted Pomefiore to appreciate its beauty. You had denied it (you never regretted a decision more in your life) because you were helping your friend, Epel, with the apple harvesting. The light in his eyes diminished, but he had respected your decision. Last time you saw him, he was walking away wearing his signature velvety purple cloak and his bow and arrows hoisted on his back. His blond hair shined in the sun as he took one last look back and waved to you.
That was a week ago.
He hasn't returned since.
SCREECH
"Who's there?!" You pointed your pen in the direction of the noise. Your eyes widened at what you found. A loud shout tore from your throat as you stumbled backward. "What the fuck?"
A dead body, preserved perfectly as if it was just slumbering, greeted you. The only way you knew it was a corpse was because of the lack of breathing and the unnatural paleness of their skin.
He had red hair that reminded you vividly of the apples on Epel's farm, but richer in hue. His hands were folded over his chest peacefully as if he was just sleeping. The corpse wore a white coat dress with a variety of interesting card-like patterns and yellow rims. There were many roses adorning his clothing that curled into itself as if they were dying alongside their owner.
Nothing but morbid curiosity brought you closer to the corpse. Floating the orb over him, your eyes scanned his body for any signs of struggle...only to find none.
"Strange."
You leaned in closer. "He looks as if he's sleeping...no bruises."
You bowed your head to the corpse, praying for the youthful-looking boy before dashing the hell out of there. But now that your paranoia caused the light to shine brighter, you saw more and more of the corpses lingering in the hallways. Some were lying against the wall while others were in the middle of the walkway. They all looked so different; you saw one with bright blue hair, another had wolfish ears, and two had identical turquoise blue hair with a streak of black.
"Oh Sevens, Rook! Where are you?" You practically sprinted to the largest double doors you've ever seen. Something was inscribed on them with gold; you didn't care to look and only grunted while pushing with all your might. In hindsight...you should have never ignored the warnings and the gruesome series of pictures. Most importantly, you should have noticed the golden apple with a dagger stabbed in the core. The apple...that had skull eyes staring blankly at the viewer.
"Nothing to lose, nothing to fear. "
You spun around in the empty throne room, shrieking 'Who's there?!' without a reply. Your chest heaved up and down as you shuddered in pure terror and fear. You couldn't even see Rook's body anywhere and a lone tear fell from your eyes. How could you face his parents? His siblings? They were all waiting for you to come back like a hero and with Rook in tow. How could you dare face them?
"The shining crown is meant for me."
Your back hit against something firm and human. With fear flooding your veins, you slowly turned around and let out the most heartwrenching scream.
"Rook!" You shook his shoulders. They were cold. Too cold. Your shaking hands cradled his chin and his head lolled to the side. His emerald eyes were half-lidded and the color seemed murky. Something whispered in your mind, slowly building in tempo and crescendo. He's dead. He's dead. He's dead.
"ROOK!"
You let out another cry and it echoed in Pomefiore's lonely walls. Suddenly, you didn't care about how cold his body was or how unnatural it felt. All you wanted to do was just have one last hug from your platonic soulmate, even though he had left you alone in this mortal realm. You needed him because he was your sun and you were the moon drawn to his charisma and power. You and Rook were inseparable from youth to now and you didn't want to change it anytime soon.
"Fairest One Of All."
You froze in Rook's cold embrace. Ice gripped your heart in terror and you could only let out shaky breaths that rattled your lungs.
Heels echoed on the marble floors of the throne room. You couldn't look; something had forced you to stay still. You didn't know if you were fortunate or unfortunate, fortunate to know that you wouldn't have to face the enemy and instead the last thing you saw was Rook's reassuring figure or unfortunate to have so much suspense grip your throat.
Poisonous, acidic air flooded the throne room and you hacked out coughs. Blood splattered Rook's purple robes and you only widened your eyes in horror. Your grip around the pen tightened but no spell or curse came to your rattled mind. Just pure terror.
"Fall asleep for all eternity. Wither away with your friends. Accompany me in my loneliness until my end."
Your eyes drooped by an unnatural force. You could feel your limbs slacking and the muscles relaxing to a frightening degree. Your head lolled forward, thumping against Rook's cold chest and your body flop sideways.
The last thing you saw before eternal slumber took you in their grasp was the most beautiful man with blond-fading-to-lavender locks.
Vil Schoenheit
Sleeping Beauty
____________________________________________________________
It has been many years since she had last felt somebody roam her hallways. Only a week ago, there was a young soul, burning with passion and youth, roaming her walls. Rook Hunt was the soul's name and he burned brighter like any fire she had ever seen. It was his fatal flaw and his greatest strength that brought him to his knees in the throne room - his wanting to explore and treasure every bit of beauty the world had to offer.
He had whispered something in French as his shaky hands touched the golden carvings on the walls and marveled over the paintings of old. She watched as he delicately cradled the artifacts and gracefully placed them back to where they belonged.
She watched as Sleeping Beauty got to him. Time and time again, these explorers could do nothing but succumb to Sleeping Beauty's magnificient power. Once upon a time, she would have clapped her hands with glee and tried to recruit him to her ranks. 'We would be unstoppable together' she would have said, eyes gleaming with promises. Now, she just mourns the loss of another soul, another death indirectly caused by her haunting beauty.
She rests, soul aging and tired. She couldn't do anything but let Sleeping Beauty roam her halls like a ghost, she was powerless to his magic as well.
Pomefiore weeps.
Somebody creeps across the drawbridge.
A new soul had arrived.
And Sleeping Beauty awakens once more.

You woke up, a bit in a daze since you were just deep asleep, but the groggy daze of ‘Why am I awake… nevermind, I’m going back to bed’ quickly left your mind as a strong, acrid, smell filled the air; the smell of something burning. That grogginess quickly morphed into a slowly building and intensifying anxiety, but none of the smoke alarms were going off… you still got up though and turned on all the lights; you wouldn’t be able to rest easy until you found the source of the smell.
Room by room, you turned on the lights, and thankfully you didn’t find anything ablaze. Thinking about it, you didn’t even have anything on that could theoretically start a fire… better safe than sorry.
I mean, like, who wouldn’t wake up and not be freaked out? My brain is practically running around in circles and screaming FIRE! FIRE! FIRE! You thought to yourself, rubbing your eyes. You also knew full well that you wouldn’t be able to fall back asleep after this, the anxious part of your brain making sure that you stayed awake until you either found the source of the smell, or it went away.
You ended your quest of trying to find the smell in the kitchen, but there was no sign of smoke or the ‘fire’ that your brain imagined engulfing all of your earthly possessions. Yet, you didn’t feel relieved, instead, you hunched over your counter and started scrolling through your phone, looking for answers.
‘what smells like burning rubber’
You got everything from phantom smells caused by hallucinations, to electrical fires, to skunk. You let out a sigh and massaged your temples. Yeah, I should have seen that coming. Go looking for answers and instead, I have more questions than I began with.
“Lovely,” you sighed, straightening yourself back up and looking up at the ceiling, “just lovely.”
It was honestly no use trying to go back to sleep now, since you were fully awake. Glancing at the clock, you groaned again; it wasn’t even four in the morning; what kind of sick joke was that?
You gave your clock the stink eye but started your journey back to your bed, maybe you could start reading that book you’ve been meaning to get into… or you could just scroll mindlessly through social media while nice and comfy under your blankets. But right as you reached the threshold of your room, three knocks sounded out.
You paused and listened. Knock, knock, knock. There they were again, but they weren’t coming from the front door, no. You were half tempted to pull the blinds back from the window, but if there was some creep knocking on your window in the dead of night, you would rather not come across them. So yet again, you went through your place, triple-checking that all the locks were secure. First a fire scare, and now this? Today wasn’t going great, was it?
All of the locks checked out though, everything was good.
Knock. Knock. KNOCK.
A third round of knocking, but this time it was louder, more insistent. And the burning smell was back, and you could taste it from how strong it was. It commanded all of your attention and wasn’t going to be ignored… it was consuming, hungry almost.
You were back in the kitchen, and thankfully(?) there was no more knocking, it seemed like three sets of three and it was done, but the smell, the smell. It was oppressive, and you started coughing, but despite the all-consuming smell of fire and burning, there was no smoke anywhere to be found; with the smell this thick, you would have been able to feel it.
You went ahead to turn on the light, but despite you flipping the switch up and down multiple times, the light stayed off. And the rest of the lights just shut off suddenly on your final flip of the light switch, plunging you into darkness, engulfing you in darkness and the smell of burning.
FUCK! You fumbled around for your phone, trying to get the flashlight on.
Knock, knock, knock. The knocking was back, and it was slower and louder than before.
Finally, your phone’s flashlight turned on, and from the darkness, a pair of glowing yellow eyes stared at you, unblinking and looking into you, as if trying to see your very being.
And you? You just stood there, frozen, barely even breathing, since hey THERE WERE GLOWING EYES IN YOUR HOUSE STARING AT YOU? HELLO?! WHAT?!
You tried to move, to even open your mouth so you could make some attempt to either scream in horror, or hiss obscenities at whatever was in your kitchen, but you were frozen. And as you stared back into the glowing eyes, they were getting closer, and changing from a startling, eerie glowing gold, to something more dull and warm; a warm hazel. Despite this change from unnatural to something more human, they still pried into your consciousness, as if looking for something.
Soon, the former-glowing-eyed thing that was lurking in the dark corners of your kitchen stepped into the weak light of your flashlight. By the time he — yes, he — had stepped into the weak cold light, his eyes had stopped glowing. But the smell, the acrid smell of something burning, was stronger than ever, and it was coming from him. Yet, he looked like a polite neighbour who would offer you some sugar if you ran out, but you knew that wasn’t what he was.
He cleared his throat, and fixed his glasses, still keeping eye contact with you which you couldn’t escape. “You summoned me?”
You blinked in surprise at the question. It was out of pocket, but this entire situation was entirely ludicrous when you really thought about it. But the green-haired man just blinked back at you, as if he was just as confused at the current situation as you were. It was almost comical in a sense.
Finally, whatever spell you were under, lifted. “No,” you said, still gauging what he was since human was only the form he was taking on. “No, I really didn’t.”
He offered you a polite smile, which was unnerving as it was charming; and if you were in a completely different situation, it would have you feeling at ease. The hairs on the back of your neck stood at end though, and your brain screamed DANGER! DANGER! RUN AWAY!
“You did though,” he chuckled softly, scratching the back of his neck. “Don’t you remember? At the bakery?”
The bakery? … all you had gotten at the bakery was some sugar, flour, and some lemon squares. And you would have remembered him if you saw him at the bakery; since green hair wasn’t natural, yet it looked like it was for him.
You shook your head, “All I got was some supplies and lemon bars. I didn’t ‘summon’ you. And what do you mean by ‘summon’? Who are you? What are you? How did you even get in my house?”
He pursed his lips and looked at you pensively. “Must have been a mix-up then… you don’t seem like the type to summon…” He let out a deep sigh, and adjusted his glasses — apparently, both of you were not happy with your current situations. Also, you didn’t know if you should have been offended or not at that statement. “Can I see what you got?”
You nodded, bringing out the flour and sugar, which, judging by his lack of reaction other than saying, “That’s a good deal for that,” was not the reason why he just spawned in your house. But then you showed him the half-eaten container of lemon bars, with three still left over.
“Ah, looks like there was a mix-up,” he chuckled. He turned back to you, with your citrus confectionaries in hand. “These are demon bars, not lemon bars. Eating them summons, well, a demon.”
A demon… A DEMON?! You balked at him, looking from the traitorous sweets to his bashful smile. And no wonder they tasted devilishly sweet… You knew it was bad going shopping on an empty stomach, and now you were dealing with the consequences.
“No offence, but uhhhh, how do I… send you back?” You were going to say ‘get rid of you’ but you didn’t want to offend the guy; he seemed polite enough, but you also didn’t want to test your luck either. “And what do I call you? Since I don’t want to just call you ‘demon’?”
The demon brought his hand to his chin and looked at you.
Man, his eyes are pretty when they aren’t glowing in the dark— WHAT AM I THINKING?! GET A GRIP OF YOURSELF! You dug your fingernails into your palm to stop your wandering, and sleep-deprived, thoughts from skipping merely down a rose-tinted road.
He looked at the ‘lemon’ bars (apparently it wasn’t just a fancy cursive L then) and looked back up to you. “Trey, you can call me Trey.”
Like a serving tray? Or three in Spanish?
“As for sending me back? Well, you didn’t know they were actually contracts, so I think if we make three more of those bars you should be good.” He nodded at the end.
Your night had taken multiple turns; from you thinking your house was aflame, to being scared half to death by Trey in your kitchen, to now making demonic-infused lemon bars in your kitchen at four in the morning… at least you made it out with your soul intact with the whole experience only costing you some ingredients, which you could always get more of… and maybe you even made a friend in the process?

(n): the deep emotional bond between people, especially those separated by distance or death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you @jade-s-nymph for the opportunity on writing this!
Tumblr media
Fate does not favor anyone, especially towards heros and villains, so then why does it hate you? You have no past that you could remember as a ghost who happened to be woken up by students of a nearby school, you have no name for it had been scratched away by the hands of time.
You’re hurt, why couldn’t you have slept longer and not wake up? You do not belong to the mortal realm and do not feel as though you belonged there, so why have you been woken up? You feel an emotion, you feel… frustration.
“You… why have you woken me up?” Periwinkle eyes a lovely shade of purple, silver hair and a stone cold expression.
“How did I get roped into this…?” You’re puzzled by his words, wasn’t it him who woke you up from your sleep?
“Pay the price for waking me up, the living must pay for disturbing the dead” It doesn’t matter anymore who woke you up, you’ll just make the most of your time now that you’re awake.
“H-Hold on!” Not letting this chance slip by, you left the boy no chance to attack you. A mark you left on his neck, the mark of a ghost to reside, you’ve officially haunted him. “Damn it!”
Falling to the ground the boy struggled to stay awake, a side effect from receiving the mark, he and you are now bound. You can now freely travel from outside of your grave with how you’ve haunted this boy.
“I look forward to seeing the world with you, sleeping beauty.”
2 hours earlier…
In the festive season of Halloween, it was clear that this was the week of where the living and the dead connected, that is to say that ghost from the underworld go to visit the realm of the living as it is the only time of the year where they can freely do so.
“Come on Sebek! Let loose would ya?” Ace tried to persuade the green haired boy. “Can’t you just join us on this? It’s not like Malleus would mind.”
“Foolish human! Do you not know that the young master must be guarded at all cost?!” If it weren’t for the fact they were friends, Ace would love to duck tape Sebek’s mouth shut because of how loud he is.
“Just this once will you just chill out? You’ve got to chill” telling Sebek to chill is like talking to a wall, he ain’t listening to what others say.
The first years, more specifically Ace, Deuce, Epel, Howl, and Yuu we’re gonna summon a ghost at Ramshackle dorm and they were gonna convince Sebek to come along. Of course naturally, Sebek is a stubborn cabbage, a loud one at that.
“Just this once? I’m pretty sure Tsunotaro wouldn’t mind” Yuu begged hoping it would at least convinced Sebek, nothing moves Sebek unless it was Tsunotaro.
“They’re right, Sebek. Loosen up a bit and join them once in a while” Lilia who happened to be passing by, hung upside down eavesdropping on the conversation… technically it’s not eavesdropping anymore.
“Lilia-sama?! You too?!” Yuu somehow had gotten used to Lillia’s entrance was not fazed by the sudden jump scare, not the others though.
“I’ll take it from here~” Lilia smirked at the first years before turning back to face at Sebek properly, not upside down on the ceiling. “Malleus and I have a meeting with the queen later, which leaves you and Silver back at Diasomnia”
“Since you won’t be needed as we’ll be going for an entire week, I want you to have fun.”
“B-But-!” “No buts, I want you to join your friends and have fun Sebek, also you guys don’t mind if Silver joins right?” Till this day, Yuu could never understand how Sebek has a gap moe, he turns from angry chihuahua to a docile cat. Truly fascinating.
Present
The horrified looks on the faces of nearby students delighted you, you don’t know why though, maybe it was a common trait for all ghost to like scaring the crap out of the living? You hated the sound of screaming despite having no physical ears, the boys with a spade and a heart on their faces seemed to have hold back a… raccoon cat? Whatever it was it was screaming it’s head off begging not to be killed.
“By the sevens! Are all living being such snowflakes? You guys are loud and rude.” To have slept so long, and woke up to such a scene, you feel a bit irritated.
“W-we didn’t mean to disturb your sleep! So don’t harm Silver-senpai!!” You looked at the direction where the strange looking student pointed at and found the silver hair sleeping beauty, or in other words the person you’ve decided to haunt.
“Would you have preferred it if I haunt you instead?” The paled look on their faces told you they wouldn’t, but their actions seems to say otherwise.” Though even if I wanted to, I can’t just let go of this beauty that quickly.”
“Foolish ghost, let go of Silver immediately!” Another loud one, fearless and loud, what a headache.
“I won’t listen to you living beings, someone who has died like me can only wander around their grave once they are woken up, let me borrow this boy to travel will you?” that seemed to have trigger something because the wolf boy started getting defensive against you. “It’s useless talking to you aLL-!”
Suddenly you feel yourself being grabbed by someone, their grip on your pale ghost neck was strong, their aura was scaring you, even though you’ve died long ago and don’t even remember what death felt like just with those eyes you feel like you might know the pain of deat once more. Silver hair and auroral eyes, it looks like you’ve picked the wrong person to haunt.
“I don’t think I’ve ever had consent you to haunt me.” ‘Don’t say those things in such a scary face!’ was what you would have said, only if you weren’t so scared.
Tumblr media
Silver, the boy you're haunting, definitely was interesting, honestly anything was interesting to you since you don't even remember who you are and everything felt so new and alive. You didn't think you'd ever wake up but having to do so now you get to travel somewhere outside of your grave, but not too far away from the person you're haunting
"Are you done messing around with my room?" You shook your head as you floated upside down in the boy's bedroom, he didn't look bothered by your nosy actions while looking around rather he was bothered by your ghostly presence.
"Nahhh, but still why do you need so many alarm clocks?" Silver didn't think he'd bring back a ghost, even though he only stood to the side as the first years had fun waking you up from your sleep, how was he the one who had to suffer having you? It's like he was there as a sacrifice…
"It's none of your business, let's just get to discussing how I can stop getting haunted by you." You sighed in disappointment but, oh well, it's not like you don't know how to "un-haunt" him.
One of the only things you happen to know for as long as you have died, is to haunt and un-haunt a living being, to haunt is simple but to un-haunt something? It will take a lot more time since your mark has to at least fade for a very long time, give or take at least two months, but the fastest case would probably be to… hear your name.
Ghosts have a different variety, those who had lived a life of fulfillment and have no lingering wishes to the living world shall move on to rest and slowly reincarnate as a new person, their memories will be lost to time. The second type was the one with attachments to the living world, who knows how long they can be content with the wishes they couldn’t complete? Because of that they shall stay until their wish is fulfilled.
You obviously were the first type, as you have no memory of the past and had no wishes of attachment to the living. When you are woken up however it will take a while for you to “fall asleep” once more.
The name of a ghost and especially the name of someone like yours is lost to time, and due to your grave being ruined beyond repair, their was no longer a name to be remembered there. To call out your name along with a line of telling you to go back to your grave and rest, that will remove your mark and you from haunting Silver, furthermore you’ll be able to sleep.
“I see… so that’s the fastest way of being un-haunted, but what is your name though?” As if you could remember, you laughed liked it was a joke before looking him dead in the eyes.
“How should I even remember? I was on my way to becoming someone else.” You shook your head in disappointment, Silver looked bothered by it a little bit.
“I guess until we find your real name, I’ll call you under a nickname.” Wait what- “How about I call you Datura?”
“Well you accepted the news of this quite well… Datura sounds nice” you’re a bit flabbergasted by how Silver just accepted his fate so quickly.
“Well then, Datura. I don’t know how long but I hope you won’t cause me too many problems” You’re definitely gonna cause him trouble.
There were many instances of ghosts making deals with humans, and most of those deals usually don't end well, for some reason, you also had that feeling that yours won't end well. However one thing’s for certain, when you look into those eyes all you could think of was a way to make it shine in different emotions, it seems you’ve found something that has piqued your interest.
"You know I think I just remembered something... I remembered feeling just like this... back when I still breathed like the living."
Silver's life was... very uneventful and boring, rarely was there anything interesting that popped up, other than the repetitive needing twelve cups of coffee just to at least stay awake but failing to do so, alarm clocks that are almost useless seeing as how long it takes him to wake up, he’s an insomniac. Other than the most random places he’s fallen asleep at, you can’t really deny that he’s quite hard working when he’s awake. It’s a miracle his grades are even okay.
Sorry Silver but, you felt like you had to do something to change his uneventful and boring life, this doesn’t feel like the life worth living. So you began doing small things, turning invisible and stealing his pens and paper, nudging the teachers to look at his spot when he’s almost falling asleep, scaring him awake while he’s asleep which didn’t end so well since he for some reason always grabbed your neck.
Silver on the other hand was amused by what you were trying to do, most of them were harmless but still it was a bit annoying, though the faces you do when he caught you was cute enough for him to let you go so he’ll play your game for a little longer.
“You’re quite lively for someone who’s dead” you stopped reading his history book for awhile, that was an interesting way to start a conversation. “So free and bored to the point you mess around with my life, how cute.”
“Don’t just compliment me like that!” You are in fact a very shy ghost and are weak to compliments, something about pretty people giving you compliments just had you at a chokehold. “What’s with you living beings and compliments..”
“Well you’re like a child more than anything, but some of your mischievous actions do help me in a way so I can’t be completely angry at you, thanks for being with me I guess.” You’ve officially turned into a puddle of ghost goo, weak for pretty people.
“You’re truly alike to a prince from a bedtime story” he fell asleep again, head on his desk with his unfinished potionology homework, you’ll help him this time. “Rest well sleeping beauty.”
Silver didn’t know where to start when it comes to finding your name, something you said about being lost to time. There probably won’t be any record of you, after all judging by where your supposed grave was, he felt like there was more behind your mysterious passing.
The clothes your ghostly figure wore was something akin to when the school was first built, even before NRC became an all-boys school. Maybe he could find something about you there in the library?
“About when the school was first built huh? Now that’s been a very long time ago.” One of the library ghost said looking through the archive. “If it’s of any interest to you, you could research the area Z-764, there should be some old records there that should help you.”
Tumblr media
Time like water kept on flowing for you and him, from the little interactions and talking, you both became so close it’s hard to separate you both. A friend he’d never thought he would gain, an experience you’d never thought you’d have.
Silver kept on searching for your name, the name buried by time, not because he wanted to get rid of you, it was far from that, he wanted to call you by the name that suited you, Datura a flower of death doesn’t suit someone like you, not for someone who’s so full of life.
A ghost like you… was such a wonderful actor, no? Despite all the closures and loving acts you but on, the endless motivation you gave him, the support you planted, there was something you couldn’t have prepared him for. You were slowly fading away.
To remember who you are… you started getting memories from such a long time ago, you remember the joy you had as a student getting accepted to a prestigious college, you remembered the tears you spilt as your life grew harder and harder, you remembered things that you had long forgotten in your sleep…
You remembered now… you weren’t a ghost with no attachment to the world, you were one with attachments to the living. Your hopes and dreams of finding someone who you could call friend, your wish was to be happy and spend time like an actual student enjoying, laughing, working… that was what you lacked and your wish. And it’s been completed.
You’re so cruel, you used him to satisfy your dying wishes and finally had no more attachments to the living, you’re a monster for making him so happy only to leave him, you’re terrible. That’s why you’ll repent, you’ll un-haunt him while staying close by.
“Your pictures… you looked lovely in them.” The bittersweetness as you saw that fake joyful smile if only you could wipe it off, and drew on the actual feeling when you took it.
“Don’t go falling for me now~ I know I’m pretty.” That earned you a playful push from the smirking boy, if only these moments could last.
“I’m not joking when I say this though, you’re beautiful (Y/n)” ah… so he found your name, those smudge letters on the bottom of the picture, you thought he wouldn’t be able to make out those words.
“Thanks for the compliments” still you’ll smile sticking by his side… only a week left by his side.
Maybe you didn’t notice your name being spoken, but honestly Silver hoped that you wouldn’t have noticed his slip up. If anything he wished he could stay by your side a bit longer, he liked the feel of your mark whenever he happened to touch that place, the way you would float around his bedroom like a balloon when your in deep thoughts.
Silver isn’t blind to see the subtle change in your attitude, rather he chose to ignore it, like a mask you’ve been wearing for a while he felt like it would be too rude to just rip it off, you had your reasons to wear it.
“Silver, have you found a way to get rid of the ghost?” Truthfully he doesn’t think he’ll get rid of you, not like this, not while he’s gotten so used to your presence.
“Ah no, I haven’t found anything yet” just for another while, just for a little longer… he still doesn’t want you gone yet.
Tumblr media
Since when did you noticed that you began to fall asleep more often? Your slowly unable to stay awake and help him like you have been for the past few months, that mark of yours have already fade without you noticing, when you look at your reflection you noticed you’ve gotten more transparent, to the point it’s almost hard to see you.
“Looks like the ghost let you go, congrats.” Silver froze, what did Yuu mean by that?
“Sorry for getting you involved in the ritual, it must have been a real headache for you” reaching for that spot on his neck he started to panic, not yet… hold on, why couldn’t he feel anything.
“Yeah, I would have been super relieved when it’s all over, bet you felt the same huh?” Maybe it was the way that Ace said it but Silver snapped, he had to look for you immediately.
He can’t get those words out of his head, the painful feeling of losing someone he cared for, to never meet you again, he had no choice but to run and find you, no wonder… he could no longer feel your presence near him.
Where were you? The ghost who knew everything about him, where were you? The person who he unconsciously shared all his troubles and thoughts with, where were you? Why was all that left when he looked for you was the cold and loud silence?
Why were you so cruel? Someone he thought he could trust, someone who wouldn’t leave him, how could you bring him joy so easily take it all away just as easily? The memories of yesterday played in his head like a broken record, he understood it… your strange behavior and those words…
“I hope you will live a good life no matter what tries to bring you down” Your hands lacked the warmth of the living, but he liked it, those hands on his warm facing.
“Despite the short time I spent with you, there’s no doubt I cherished it” the way your voice broke for a second, something about it just made him want to ask you what’s wrong.
“Please move on when you don’t see me anymore, please forget me, I don’t want you to be reminded of me.” Tears… despite being a ghost you could still cry like how the living could, when he opened his eyes to consult you there was nothing… you weren’t there anymore.
There was one place he could only hope to see you again, please… at least give him some time to say goodbye to you, even for a moment…
Tumblr media
You would be a liar if you said you didn’t feel sad about leaving him, in front of your grave where the flowers have started to grow. This doesn’t feel like a very happy scene for you, no matter how many laughter and chatting you heard from a far, how lively people were to each other, did you mention the fact you had overstayed your time in the world of the living?
It’s beautiful for such a sad scene, night arrived rather quickly for you. Hopefully by this point he’d brush off your disappearance as exploring and nothing else, hopefully the words you spoke in his dreams are left unheard.
“I’m glad I get to go out like this..” soft winds blowing in your directions, fragments of light from your fading figure like fireflies they began to separate slowly.
The lovely night here to accompany you on your journey once more, a journey you’ve held back from going… you’re happy. However…
It felt like a scene from a story you heard of when you were younger, a separation happened just like this… if you were still alive you would have felt it was too much and that the person leaving should have stayed, they shouldn’t have left… but now that you’re wiser you understood, sometimes they had no choice but to leave.
“Took you a while, take a seat next to me" You patted the spot next to yours, it's cold on the ground but the view from where you sat was worth all of the trouble it brought. "Don't look at me like that~"
"...You're a terrible person, (Y/n)" You know that, and you won't deny what he said, after all, who would suddenly leave like this? "Can't I keep you by my side a bit longer?"
"You know that's impossible." You laughed it off scooting closer to him, such a lighthearted attitude for a last meeting. "I'm happy to have you as my friend for these last few minutes."
Taking your almost completely disappeared hand in his, he didn't know what he could say anymore, a feeling that made him weak to his knees appeared once more.
"I... I love you." Three simple words seemingly uttered out of nowhere, something you didn't see coming from someone like him. "We'll meet again, right?"
"Haha~ Of course we will" You couldn't hold back the painful tears that your cold heart was keeping at bay, you cried out of happiness despite this separation.
"Then it's a promise." Pinkies intertwined with each other you nodded your head, before finally scattering into the wind, the light of a peaceful passing.

the red hood and the gentle wolf
tw: gn reader, a little spooky
I believe that in your life, you have already heard the story Red Hood, no matter the variation of this story, there will always be the human and the wolf… here it will be no different.
Your family always spent their holidays in a mountain house, you, your parents, uncles, cousins and grandparents never missed the tradition and you loved it when that time came, no more than your maternal grandmother, this lady was thrilled every time she arrived at the house. home, which sometimes worries you and your family because she would simply disappear for a few hours and come back saying "I just took a walk in the forest, what an unnecessary fuss, I'm old, not dead". However, one day you managed to follow her, entering the large dark forest, entering a cave and… your grandmother was gone! how was that possible, there was no other entrance, just a mirror, wait a mirror? Why is there a mirror in a cave? there were so many questions in your head, but you felt like that mirror would answer them. with slow and determined steps, you stood in front of the mirror… no reflection, a big black void, it gave you goosebumps, but you needed to find out what happened to your grandmother. reaching out your hand, touching the mirror, the surface ripples and when you least notice it, you are being sucked into the mirror, the feeling was like being in water, but you could breathe, not that it comforted you.
you are thrown out of the mirror, like someone unwanted, falling face first into a soft, icy surface, you open your eyes and see snow, you were in a snowstorm, surrounded by a forest of tall trees. You get up, taking your red coat off your waist and putting it on, looking for warmth and comfort, you look around and don't see your grandmother or anyone else. You start walking through the woods, always looking back so as not to lose sight of the mirror, afraid of losing the only way you have to return. As your new adventure unfolds, you wonder how this was possible, a magic mirror that teleports you, was your grandmother a witch? Did she dabble in the occult? Did she have a contract with the devil? You had collapsed in the forest and this is all a long lived dream? They all disappear with the feeling of being watched, you look everywhere, there is no one, not even a single living soul, you keep walking, praying that it's all in your head… but it wasn't… When you look back again, you find glowing golden eyes, its fur so white you can barely distinguish it from the landscape, but you've seen this animal in more movies and documentaries than you can count, a wolf, a huge wolf. out of pure instinct, you run, the fastest you have ever run in your life, your heart filling your ears with its rapid palpitation, and fear, pure fear filled your veins and in the midst of the chaos you heard the footsteps of the wolf next to you. side, chasing you, hunting you, you would die here and no one would ever find your body for your family to mourn. As if fate wanted to laugh at you some more, you end up tripping over the roots of a tree, again with your face on the ground, you give yourself over to death, no longer able to escape, it's over, you close your eyes and wait for the The beast's teeth in your skin, but the only thing you gain is getting up off the ground, your feet not touching the ground, this left you confused, you look back and there is a boy with brown skin, yellow eyes like a wolf and white hair and wolf ears…what… "that's good, you didn't faint, if you're going out in a blizzard like this, dress warmly, if you can't handle it, stay home" the boy said in a stoic voice. you blink, not believing your eyes, a wolf boy, the two of you remain in an awkward silence before he speaks again "hey, are you okay?", you answer yes, he puts you down and asks you what you is doing in the forest, you say you came after your grandmother, he furrows his eyebrows before starting to walk in silence, you follow him, the wolf boy being your only support, you put your hands in his red coat and ask his name from him. "Jack"
The path was smoother thanks to Jack, upon arriving at the cabin of what you assume to be his family…or should you say pack? You are welcomed by curious children, a worried woman and your grandmother! She tugs your ear and says that was dangerous and you complain that this happened because she keeps secrets while they enter the cozy house. They take off your wet red hood and place you in front of the fireplace and hand you a cup of hot chocolate, you appreciate their kindness. your grandmother sits down and explains everything. when she was seventeen, she had gone into the forest, wanting to explore the forest, then she found the cave and the mirror and like the adventurous woman she was, she touched it, ending up here, but it wasn't in a storm, that's what she found a lost little girl, Jack's mother took care of her until she found the other wild men, they thanked her and rewarded her with several things, but the best gift she received that day: it was their friendship, she laughed a little still remembering the questions that some children asked. "why are your ears so small?" "Why don't you have fangs?" "why are your eyes like that?" You also laughed a little at that, they offered you some cookies and your grandmother continued telling stories from her time, Jack arrived later and sat next to her, that moment was really fun.
here you started a new tradition with your grandmother, under the pretext of going on a trail in the forest, the two of you came to visit the wolves, you and Jack getting closer as time passed, and you realized that even with your face it would be and Indifferent at times, he cared a lot about everyone around him.
"hey big bad wolf, what big ears you have" "…do you really think I'm evil and have big ears, little red hood?" Jack said jokingly.
"hehe, you know better and...why that face?" Jack wasn't paying attention to you but was sniffing the air, a troubled expression on his face "let's go back to the cabin" "ok..."
An arrow burst into the air, but Jack was quick enough to dodge it, growling in the direction the object came from. you get scared and get ready to run.
"that was a good move Messier wolf" a melodic voice said right next to you, making you jump and stumble, but your wrist is grabbed, stopping you from falling "i'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you" a man with bowl-shaped blonde hair said, still holding you. Both you and Jack were impressed by the speed and stealth with which the man appeared at your side, Jack growled and pulled you into his arms, this only made the man laugh, you realized he was carrying a crossbow in his hand. "interesting, I've never seen any wolf be so protective of food" "f-food? he would never do that!" the man remained silent with a serious expression before smiling again…this guy is strange.
"and how can I be sure? the several disappearances happening lately" you look at Jack "that's why you guys are so protective of me and grandma?" he nodded.
You were determined to protect Jack, but when you opened your mouth to speak, a scream echoed through, all three of you tensed up. Jack hurried to get you out of there while the man hurried to go to the scream. Jack wouldn't say anything as he dragged you by the hand, he wouldn't say the smell of blood that flooded your sensitive nostrils, the protective instinct that rose with it. Jack never took you to that part of the forest again and you didn't insist on going either.
author's notes: the first time I kept an eye on the number of words, my goal was to reach 1000 and I'm happy to have passed! It was so fun to write this and at the same time stressful, anyone who has been here since the beginning knows that my mother tongue is not English, so there may be a lot of mistakes, even if I have proofread there will still be mistakes, I decided to do something very basic because I'm terrible at horror and didn't want something very romantic
thanks @twistedchatterbox and @jade-s-nymph for the opportunity
without further ado HAPPY HALLOWEEN

A not-so-perfect first halloween
Halloween collab with @jade-s-nymph !!
TW: fluff, reader can be Yuu or not, they/them pronouns used, Cater is wearing a skull hairpin, post book 1, reader is mentioned to have hair and a costume, (name) used to mention reader, a lil bit of crack, not edited, (name) has like one line, second person POV, switches between (name) and Riddle randomly
characters: Riddle x reader, honourable mention to Cater, Vil, Jade I added Jade just for you @jade-s-nymph be grateful and Floyd (not shipped)
Not accurate to the Halloween event in-game! This is an au where NRC students set up stalls with challenges and if you win the challenge, you get candy which you can eat or trade in for prizes
I am still an amateur writer so writing may be cringe/out of character! Constructive feedback would be much appreciated!
🌹🌹🌹 Riddle was…Nervous, to say the least. He had experienced Halloween at NRC before, and he’d like to say he enjoyed it. However, this was his first Halloween with someone other than his dorm mates or friends: you. What was your favourite activity on Halloween? Did you like candy? Had you gone trick-or-treating before? Riddle had asked you these questions and more in advance to make sure both of you enjoyed yourselves. He smoothed out his costume—a skeleton with heart embroidery—and straightened his back. I’m going to make sure this is the best first Halloween with them, Riddle told himself. One of the benefits of wearing heels was seeing Heartslabyul students straighten up immediately after hearing the click-clack of Riddle’s heels as he stepped into the dorm lounge. Usually, Riddle would’ve greeted them and even brought up some small talk if he was in a good mood, but it was almost 6:00 in the evening, about time for Riddle to set out to meet you. “Looking good, Housewarden! How about a selfie for Magicam?” Cater winked, taking out his phone. He was wearing a similar outfit to Riddle, only difference being the size and the fact that he had a skull hairpin in his long, ginger hair. Riddle sighed at the tall student in front of him. “Make it quick,” He said, “I am sure you are aware that I am going to meet (name), and it is against the rules to be late.” After snapping a photo with Cater, Riddle set out. You both were to meet in front of the school, on Main Street, and then explore the festival together. It was 6:00 exactly when Riddle arrived at your meeting place. As he waited for you, Riddle couldn’t help but admire the decorations. After all, NRC students always went the full nine yards for Halloween. Candles littered Main Street, all set aglow by Headmage Crowley himself. Pumpkins which had different faces on them—Riddle thought he saw one that looked like him—some in the sky, some on the apple tree branches, candles inside them flickering bright. Small lanterns hung from the now-bare branches of NRC’s historic apple trees, adding a subtle but noticeable glow to the dark brown branches that hung over the statues of the Great Seven. The sky was a cloudy sunset, with gaps in the clouds where remnants of the sunny October day before peeked out for one last chance to glow before the moon came up and night arrived. As the sun set and the moon rose, more and more people started to arrive to participate in the festivities, and soon Riddle found himself smushed between a little girl and who Riddle thought to be her big brother. Great. With this much rush, I doubt I’ll be able to find them. Riddle mentally sighed, and started to search for you among the crowd. Meanwhile, you came running to the decided meeting place and were about to apologize for being late, but as soon as you opened your mouth, you realized you couldn’t see Riddle in the crowd. You guess at some point Vil showed up in his Halloween costume, because people started running and pushing forward, taking their phones out and screaming. Just as you told a guy to watch it and another woman and a few teenagers to please stop pushing, you finally fell to the ground because of the stampede. It left your hair a mess, and your Halloween costume soiled slightly. As the stampede thinned a little bit, you saw a familiar pair of skeleton heels and rose-red hair.
Riddle searched for your face when the crowd thinned. His mind went all sorts of places. What if they didn’t want to come and just forgot to tell me? What if they’re in trouble? I should probably call them… The last place Riddle expected you to be was on the ground.
“(name)..? Is that you? Are you alright?” He questioned, surprised. As you raised your hand in greeting and weakly made a thumbs up, Riddle bent down to offer you a hand, which you gladly accepted.
“Great seven…You can’t go a day without causing trouble for me, can you?” Riddle said as he pulled you to your feet and fixed your clothes and hair. As you opened your mouth to apologize, he stopped you. “…Well, it’s not like I mind.” He mumbled, looking satisfied with his work and nodding. You two walked through the mini-fair, making idle talk about recent events and often stopping to make comments like this booth is decorated beautifully, and oh, let's try this game! Riddle kept a close watch on you. There might be more rush and another stampede, and he didn't want you to get hurt.
Eventually, you came across a stall run by some Octavinelle students, where you had to throw a ball and break glass to win candy. Riddle turned to you. “Do you want to give it a go? I will be here.” As you nodded, Riddle stepped back so the ball wouldn’t accidentally hit him. You threw the ball with all your might, but none of your balls hit. The Octavinelle student at the stand sniggered.
“Sorry, better luck next time, I guess.” The student sneered. (Was it rigged? Were your throws actually horrible? You never know…)
You and Riddle both tried a bunch of games, winning some and losing some. Eventually, your bags were reasonably full with candy, and the night was coming to an end. Guests were starting to leave, but in the darkness the decorations around the school shone yet brighter. Riddle checked his watch. It read 10:34 PM. He looked at you. “We should probably get going. We do have school tomorrow, and if we sleep late we will wake up late for school tomorrow. Let’s go exchange our candy and head back.”
As you two walked to the exchange stall, a familiar—yet unnerving—voice spoke. “Well, look what we have here. Why, it’s the Housewarden of Heartslabyul and his paramour. How are you on this fine night?” Jade Leech peered down to make eye contact with you and Riddle. Behind him was Floyd, energetically giving out and restocking prizes, and the prize wall. The bigger plushies were hung higher on the wall, and the smaller fidgets hung lower, both in price and on the wall. You looked at Riddle, who was conversing with Jade about the candy, and you looked at a hedgehog plushie with a Halloween mask on that you had just enough candy for. It wasn’t too big, but it was freakishly adorable. You interrupted Jade mid-speech to point at the hedgehog you wanted. He looked a bit irritated, but quickly changed to his normal expression. “Ah, that one. I’m assuming you have the candy to pay for it, yes?” He smiled politely, but it didn’t reach his eyes. You nodded as you dumped out your entire sack of candy. Jade reached for the hedgehog hanging mid wall—you couldn’t help but think Riddle would’ve struggled to get that if it were him—and handed it to you. As you and Riddle left, you couldn’t help but notice Floyd suddenly stop his work and going to annoy Jade. In the background, you could hear Jade saying “Now, Floyd. I don’t think Azul will be happy if you leave those customers hanging.” It was almost 11:00 now. The mini-fair closed, only reopening next year. You and Riddle walked in comfortable silence. The fall breeze was crisp but chilly. A lingering scent from the apple pie stall remained, and you could hear the crunches of the leaves beneath your feet as you walked toward the Hall of Mirrors. It really seemed like Halloween was over now, and so was your first date with Riddle.
“…I’ll walk you back to your dorm,” Riddle said, breaking the silence. You nodded and walked in the direction of your dorm. When you finally arrived at the Hall of Mirrors, you smiled and waved goodbye to Riddle, giving him a quick peck on the cheek before you left for your dorm. Riddle’s face turned red like a tomato, but he couldn’t stop thinking about that peck on the cheek. It was a simple but romantic gesture. As he went through the Heartslabyul mirror, Riddle noticed you had forgotten the hedgehog plushie you got at the exchange stall. Riddle pulled out his phone to let you know that you had forgotten it and he would give it to you tomorrow, but he was met with a text from you that read:
(name): dw about the plushie. I know you like hedgehogs so I decided to give it to you. I’ve seen your room. it’s neat, sure, but it’s lacking that personal factor. Keep the hedgehog, take good care of him for me ;)
Riddle sighed and shook his head. This definitely sounded like something you would do. The click-clack of Riddle’s heels could be heard as he stepped into the Heartslabyul lounge. Students still in the lounge didn’t say anything, but they stared at the plushie in their Housewarden’s arms. As Riddle gave them a dirty look and they straightened up and pretended to do something else, he walked up the stairs, replaying the night and its ending in his head over and over. Riddle slept peacefully that night with the plushie in his arms.

The Hunt for a Break
Fandom: Twisted Wonderland
Characters: Floyd x reader, honorable mentions to Jade and Azul
Word Count: 1303
Genre: Crack, Fluff
Warnings: the reader is being chased but nothing graphic, the fic is mainly crack but can be a bit considered scary to some readers
Notes: the reader is gender neutral, this is not canon to twisted wonderland or its Halloween event, it is a first person perspective.
A Halloween Collab with: @twistedchatterbox , @jade-s-nymph
A/N: Thank you so much to @twistedchatterbox for letting me participate in this event. I was originally planning for my prompt to be a bit more suspenseful but it turned more into a crack fic than anything else XD. Anyway, thank you for letting me be part of the event, I hope you enjoy my little piece. 💛
🦇🦇🦇🦇🦇
It was a dark and cloudy evening, which to you was an irony as most of the suspenseful books you read had started close to this very description. The other irony was just how well it matched the current situation you found yourself in.
Sticks and leaves crunched under your shoes as you sprinted down the wooded path, trees streaming by you in a blurs of brown and white. The cold of the fall air bit at your fingers and your nose, but you didn’t have the time to stop and warm them up. The thing that was coming after you wouldn’t stop just for you to pitifully rub your hands together in an attempt to warm up a bit, and some part of your brain cursed your decision to leave the dorm without gloves on.
A particularly loud crunch near to your right made you yelp. Yep, it was definitely getting closer, and you were not particularly happy with that development.
“BEGONE WITH THEE!” You screeched to the thing behind you, pushing yourself to pick up the pace. “DON’T YOU HAVE SOMETHING BETTER TO DO!?”
“NOPE!” Came the enthusiastic shout from behind, instilling more fear at the realization that he was not going to stop until it caught you. Leaping over a tree that blocked the path you, you tore off to the left, trying to lose him in very weird, jerky manuvers around the trees and rocks down a small hill. Lighthearted giggling reached your ears as you wove your way down the slope.
“Shrimpyyyyy~ I’m gonna get ya!” Came another shout from behind, followed by rapidly approaching footsteps. In a last ditch effort you flew over a large rock, promptly digging your heels into the dirt upon landing only to dive off to the side of the rock. Squatting down by its side you tried to become as quiet and small as possible, puffs of steam hanging in the air from the quick inhales you took to try and catch your breath. The footsteps in pursuit became louder and lounder until the incredible lanky figure flew over the rock, landing square on his feet before popping up excitedly. A familiar head of teal-colored hair cocked to the side, looking around for where you ran off to.
“Aw come on shrimpy! Where did you go?” His heterochromatic eyes swept the small clearing, full of excitement and confusion. When his gaze swept over the rock again you folded into yourself, trying to get as small as humanely possible. You could have sworn he had seen you as he had looked directly towards you in his wild searching circles. But to your surprise he shrugged, let out a disappointed huff, and started sauntering off towards the left whistling as he went.
It was only when he was out of sight that you realized you had been holding your breath. Air rushed out of your lungs as you exhaled, relief settling over you as you slumped against the rock. Raising a hand to your chest, you could feel your heart beat hard against your ribcage.
“Wasn’t he supposed to be at the lounge at this hour?” You whispered to the rustling leaves. The circumstances behind the sudden chase scene were weird to say the least. Classes had just ended for the day, with half the student body dispersing to discuss what their plans were for the upcoming Halloween events. The housewardens were planning for the yearly Halloween party, the Monstro lounge was busy solving the issue of what the main menu would be, and the students were tasked with decorating their dorms for the season. You had just gotten back to Ramshackle dorm, putting your schoolwork down to tackle later in the day before heading back outside. Your original plan had been to take a brisk walk around the campus to clear your head, get some fresh air and just to take break before going back to tackle the rest of the evening. But it seems that some merperson had other ideas. You hadn’t even made it two steps out the gate before spotting a familiar teal headed merman standing in a menacing half-crouch in the middle of the path, but facing the opposite direction. Before you could even begin to question what you were witnessing he snapped his head around at the sound of the gate shutting, spotting you immediately with a wide grin. You froze when he shouted “Shrimpy!” in earnest excitement, and took off running once he had managed to flip himself around start sprinting at you at an ungodly speed. In short, you seemed to have found yourself the source of entertainment of a guy who was definitely skipping his shift at the Monstro Lounge.
“GOTCHA!” Came a shout from above you, causing you to let out a startled scream. Speak of the devil, Floyd definitely knew where you were now, staring down at you from his newfound rock perch. Scrambling to stand you started to try running off again, but was promptly tackled to the ground and sent rolling across the forest floor with your attacker. Floyd let out a wild bought of laughter once the two of you stopped careening around the clearing, sprawled flat on his back with his arms flung out to the sides. You were in a similar position, lying stomach first across his waist with your arms flung out in front of you. You could feel his stomach shaking with laughter underneath you, which in turn caused you to start laughing along with him once the shock factor had worn off.
“Floyd what the hell!” You laughed, your head falling forward as you shook with hysteria. Floyd laughed harder at your words, shifting to his side and sliding you off of him.
“Ahahaha! Your the best to play with Shrimpy!” He exclaimed, giggling and kicking his feet like a child. “That made my day so much better!”
“Well, glad to be of assistance I guess.” You shifted yourself onto your back, looking up at the sunlight starting to break through the clouds. “Shouldn’t you be at the lounge?”
“Ehhhh, Azul can manage, plus its so boring. This was way better!” Floyd flung his arms above him, emphasizing his point. “I needed a break from all that boring stuff.”
“Well we had one heck of a break.” You snickered. “So, want to go back or do you just want to keep lying here for a bit.” His face scrunched up in faux consideration before he responded.
“Well, lying here won’t hurt anyone.” He said, eyes closed with a soft smile on his face. Linking arms with him, you joined him in lying on the forest floor, enjoying each others company in the growing dusk of the day.
Bonus: “WHERE IS FLOYD!? HIS BREAK ENDED TWO HOURS AGO!” Came a shout from the VIP lounge, Azul storming into the main restaurant soon after.
“I believe he said he was off doing some important things. It must be quite important if its taking him this long.” Jade replied, a cordial smile on his face as he addressed the housewarden.
“Oh please he’s probably off gallivanting around campus looking for someone to mess with.” Azul grumbled, adjusting his glasses so the sat higher on his nose. “He’s picking up an extra shift when the Halloween rush comes around to make up for this.”
Jade let out a hum, letting his smile fall a bit as he spoke. “That will make for a very eventful holiday indeed. I cannot wait to see his reaction when you tell him.”
“No Jade I was planning on you telling him, as if its you it might lessen some of his temper…Jade get back here this instant.”
“I believe I will be taking my break now Azul. I have important things to do.”

Phantom thief
October TWST collab with @jade-s-nymph - day 13.
(Riddle × reader fluff)
There was still a week or two left before Halloween, but, punctual as always, the Heartslabyul Housewarden started preparing in advance. Considering this event will gather residents from all over Sage Island, including high-standing individuals and elite of all kinds, putting any less than maximum effort into costumes and decoration is ultimately out of option.
Not like Riddle has ever done anything other than his best. His mother would have had his head on a platter if he had - after all, Mrs. Rosehearts expects only perfect reputation and flawless image from her child.
That means every little detail must be in order. And whatever is happening right now is, in fact, nowhere close to order.
"WHAT?!", rings out an outraged screech, loud enough to crack glass, alarming students from all around.
Riddle was pacing back and forth in the common rooms, leaving a clear circular pattern with heel imprints in the carpet. Deuce sweatdrops, having already regretted coming here. The Housewarden had already been stressed enough on a daily basis, but the shade of red that his face this time around gained was alarming.
Barely a minute ago, he was notified of serial disappearances all around the dorm; Some fiend had apparently thought it would be a great idea to steal all the clock and watches in the entire Heartslabyul! As absurd as it was, the little prank set Riddle, a natural perfectionist, off on a whole another level. His card soldiers always come late as it is, but with all the watches disappearing every day is bound to become a disaster.
The Queen's most trusted soldiers, Trey and Cater, had to go an extra mile to console their dormleader that day. The former even decided on baking extra sweet strawberry tarts just to avoid the younger boy's mental meltdown.
"Just think about it - a phantom thief appearing as if out of nowhere, disrupting peace and urging the detective to unravel the mystery behind their act... It's, like, straight-out-of-a-novel scenario!", Cater exclaims, "Take it easy, consider this a game. Or, eh, a... puzzle of sorts? You like those, right? Leave all the prep work to froshies and go catch the criminal!"
"YOU- You think this a game?! How can I-", the red-haired boy takes a deep breathe. 'Keep calm, breath and count to three...', he repeats to himself. "How am I supposed to 'take it easy' when I have a rulebreaker on a loose? The Queen of Hearts' rule number 53, stolen items must be-"
"He's right, Riddle", Trey chimes in, wiping hands with a towel, "You've been running yourself ragged lately, way more than needed, and Halloween is over a week away." He steps closer to the counter, leaning on it and giving one of his signature smile - warm and reassuring, befitting a typical older brother, "Our dormmates are working extra hard, all of them are excited for the holiday, so they're motivated to do their best; and aren't all these preparations the same we do before unbirthday parties? We got it down to a fine art, nothing bad will happen if you leave the freshmen unattended. At worst, Cater and I can supervise them. Right, Cater?"
The boy in question didn't answer, too occupied with choosing hashtags for his new photo (he switched his attention from one thing to another again...), mumbling under his breath. Trey heaved a sigh, planting hands on his hips like a stern teacher that was forced to deal with a notorious troublemaker.
"Cater.", he said in a harsher tone. Having gotten used to Clover's usual patience and soft voice, both Cater and Riddle shivered.
"Y-YES, sure thing!"
Nobody would ever want to deal with an enraged Trey...
Tumblr media
"Why are they so insistent on me doing this personally and, moreover, alone...? These two are acting strange.", Riddle was standing at a balcony overlooking the Gardens, where students of Heartslabyul were working on preparing decorations. Everyone had a task of their own - no slackers in sight.
The two upperclassmen managed to talk Riddle into stepping away from his duties to focus on investigating. Which was weird, as there was nothing 'fun' about having to fish out troublemakers and give out punishments, at best it only added more stress to his life...
Taking a deep breath, he slid a card out of his back pocket - Seven of Hearts. Deuce said that cards like this one were found in place of every stolen item. Whoever was behind this all was being bold, to leave a piece of evidence on purpose? But why a card; was it a reference to their dorm setting? A mocking in the face of THE Queen of Hearts?
"Unacceptable...", the Housewarden grumbled, "I'll see to it that the rulebreaker receives a suitable punishment."
Another 'surprise' was waiting for him in his own room. The tall Grandfather clock, surprisingly enough, was standing steady in its natural place. Nothing would've been amiss, if not for the lack of clock hands. In their place was pinned another card - seven of Hearts. The floor under the grand clock had faint trails of scratches, as if somebody had tried moving it but, after failing to do so, had decided to put everything back in place. Riddle took a long furious stride towards the clock, heels clicking with each step. Even with the shoes' added height, he finds it difficult to reach the card, which infuriates the boy even further. With a stomp and a 'hmph' Riddle (unwillingly so) goes to fetch a stepping stool.
"I can't believe this petty little-... what does this mean?!"
"Dear Mr. Detective ;) Riddle,
You must've noticed some things missing in Heartslabyul. I hope you don't mind me stealing some of your precious time.
If you want me to return all that has disappeared, I expect to see you tonight, south of the rose maze. Make sure to look your best!
Truly,
Your phantom thief.~♡"
...were they... toying with him? Who would dare to demand an unscheduled audience with him, and in such a bold manner, too?! The audacity them must have to assume he'd just follow their demands blindly!
Tumblr media
Late evening rolled around, just an hour before curfew. Even the tough fabric of his school uniform couldn't keep the chilly autumn wind away. Riddle folded his arms, tucking palms into his jacket to preserve warmth. Rose bushes and hedges stretch out far, high and wide.
...He came here out of his own will, not because he had no other option. Of course.
Nobody's in sight. Only crickets' song fills in the cold silence. Whoever had left that note must've played a prank on him to make him out as a fool. That's what he was about to think of, if only he hadn't noticed a faint glow of a candle from behind a bush. Rounding a corner, Riddle notices a path of rose petal leading deeper into the maze, straying from the general path.
Getting into a ready stance with a magic pen in hand, the Housewarden sets off to follow the trail.
A hint of a classical piece, one from his personal collection of favorites, plays from afar, growing louder with every step taken forward.
The petals take him to a clearing. A round table is served with a dainty teapot, a set of matching cups and plates with a colorful flowery pattern. Next to them are fresh tarts and cupcakes that emit mouthwatering aromas and puffs of heat. Fairy lights decorate the area, painting it in a warm pink glow. An old-fashioned gramophone creaks with every spin of the needle, playing a merry tune. This setting doesn't seem hostile.
He only lost his composure for a second, but that was more than enough for the phantom thief to make their appearance without being noticed.
"Do you like this?", they whisper in Riddle's ear, blowing some air and almost making him squeak in fear.
The flustered boy turns around, just to come face to face with the Ramshackle prefect, [Name]. Their figure was covered by a dark coat, the cape falling off their head to reveal a mischievous smirk on the prefect's face. After taking a step closer to Riddle, they take a hold of his hands, placing gentle kisses on knuckles of each with a fond smile.
"Sorry about making you worry and run around all day long...", they mutter out, "...but I just couldn't find a way to keep you from entering the gardens otherwise. I know for a fact that Ace and Deuce wouldn't be able to distract you without spilling everything, and Trey and Cater are already busy."
"Are you saying that they were all in on your scheme?", the boy asks, bewildered. How hasn't he noticed sooner?
"Aha, ma~ybe? It doesn't matter! Now, as a payback for wasting so much of your time today, let me treat you to some tea.", [Name] loops their arm with Riddle's, leading him closer to the table and move a chair out for him.
He hesitates for a while, making prefect furrow their brows in worry.
"You should've already memorized it by now... All stolen things must be replaced. So you better make this worth the time I spent.", he says, turning to look them in the eyes, grabbing them by the collar of their shirt and pressing a kiss on their cheek with a little too much effort, almost making them fall backwards. He takes a seat on his chair with a huff, desperate to mask his growing embarrassment, and hides his blossoming blush with a hand.
[Name] takes a few seconds to process the notion before they erupt in a fit of giggles, taking a sit opposite of the housewarden, happy with the outcome.
This evening date promises to be a pleasant one.

Kill Your Darlings (Redux)
(in collaboration with @twistedchatterbox ‘s event, Spooky Chattering 2023)
Tumblr media
AN: If you were one of the five people that read the original Kill Your Darlings, then strap in because this is a reimagining that is way more cracked than it’s archived original counterpart. And if you weren't, well, you're not missing much. This version is leagues above the og and way more fun. Reader is my yuusona, Darling (she/her), who is very in love with Idia (but feel free to live vicariously through her like I do). Other characters in this little (*cough* 7k word) fic include Azul, Ortho, and Grim (with a little bonus scene at the end with Crowley) Vil is mentioned quite a lot, but makes no appearance.
CW: more of a dark comedy than anything, but there are still points of tension, anxiety mention (in response to the tension), feelings of being stalked/hunted, minor injuries/blood, and one (1) fbomb, meaning that it could safely be rated pg-13.
AN2: Also i am super new/unaware of fanfic etiquette so if there's anything i've missed/should label differently/etc, please let me know! now, without further adieu…
Tumblr media
It was a day like any other, really. Foggy, but hey, I like overcast weather so I’m not complaining.
“I guess I never realized that the fog here is different from the fog back home,” I muse to Grim while we walk to class.
“Myah? Whaddya mean by that?”
“The fog back home didn’t stick around this much, I don’t think.”
“The fog here isn’t really that sticky, Darling.”
“Whatever you say, Grim.” I give him some pets as we walk. “Also, before I forget, I have Board Game Club after classes today. Remember the plan?”
“How could I forget?” he grins. “You offered me five whole cans of tuna to help you with this scheme!”
After the events of that phantom bride- oh how I hate her still!- I can’t afford myself the luxury of pretending that Idia doesn’t know that I like him anymore. With the lengths (and songs) I went to without hesitation, there’s no way he doesn’t know; but it’s polite to tell him point blank in no uncertain terms. I mean, that’s what you do when you like someone, right?
The plan is that Grim is going to distract Azul somehow to make him late to the club meeting. Hopefully this will mean that Idia and I will be alone, allowing me to tell him how I feel in person without anyone else there to watch.
Before I left the dorm, I made sure to spritz a bit of perfume on me, just something that makes me smell a bit like candy. I’m only thinking of this because I left the bottle on the stairs since I was running late to class, but I’m always running late to these early morning classes. Anyways, I need to remember to put it back in the bathroom when I get home.
After classes with Grim, we diverge on our separate paths; Grim to distract Azul with some random fetch quest and I to the Board Game Club to confess my love to Idia, though hopefully not in song while holding a heavy flamer this time.
I show up early to the club meeting, jittery and anxious. When I was out there white knighting and wedding crashing, I was so hopped up on anger, adrenaline, and the anxiety that my Sister of Battle armor would run out of battery too soon that I didn’t even notice that I kept singing the lyrics to “A Grave Mistake” wrong. When you meet the girl whose love you stole… Cringe, but I feel more on edge now than then. Why does this of all things make me anxious?
Time refuses to march on to my best nightmare, so I stay frozen in place as I pace the floor.
And then I hear the door creak open, forcefully shaking me from my thoughts and making my heart pound harder. I see the blue flames of his hair before I see him. I sit down and start nervously shuffling a deck of cards to keep from spontaneously combusting.
He eventually notices me and takes off his headphones. He too avoids eye contact. We haven’t spoken much since that phantom bride left.
“Magic?” I ask him, holding up the cards.
“Uh... sure,” he responds flatly, pulling out a deck of his own.
My brain is on fire, screaming at me to say something. Now is my chance! But I go to speak and find that my lips are welded shut as I draw my hand, only just now realizing that the deck I’m playing is my Ezuri, Stalker of Spheres deck. I feel bad, until I see that he brought his Juri deck and decide that it’s time to destroy him with toxic and proliferate keywords.
He notices my commander and smirks. “Feeling competitive today?”
“I have some things I want to win.”
Our eyes meet briefly and I feel my heart stop. I bury my face in my opening hand, but out of the corner of my eye I see his hair swiftly turning pink.
“Your hair looks purple today,” he stammers out.
“It’s purple everyday.”
“Oh. Right. Sorry.”
The game continues on as normal.
I manage to ask him, “So, what’s your Halloween costume going to be?”
“Haven’t thought much about it yet.”
“Halloween is in four days, Idia,” I remind him. When I say his name, the tips of his hair turn pink. He’s so cute. I still can’t believe he’s single.
“What about you, Darling?”
Hearing him say my name makes my brain short circuit.
“Oh!” I snap out of my daze. “I was thinking Springtrap or Ennard or something like that since the ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ movie comes out today.”
“That’s today?” his eyes light up with excitement. Now’s my chance now’s my chance now’s my-
“Yeah,” I smile. “I’ve already made plans to go see it. After this club meeting its gonna be one hour at Pomefiore to cover my arms with nose and scar wax.”
“With Vil?”
“Who else? He’s gonna help with the scars I have to put on the back of my neck.”
“Oh,” he retreats back to his normal energy levels. “That makes sense.”
And there goes my chance.
We finish the game without talking (aside from reading the cards to explain the cards). He won, obviously.
“Get rekt,” he grins. I can feel my cheeks get hot.
“I took a bad opening hand,” I justify my loss to him. I really want him to think I’m good at this game (even though I am painfully mid).
“Yeah, I saw that mana drought.”
“I had Oko, Thief of Crowns, in fairness.”
“Ohhhh,” he remarks sarcastically, “that makes it totally worth it.”
“If it had paid off I would’ve destroyed you,” I threaten him toothlessly.
“Sure you would’ve.” As he fidgets with his life counter, he says, “I, uh... you mentioned that you wish you had more hands to hold things as you cut out patterns the other day.”
“Especially with Halloween coming up,” I lament, realizing too late that he’s probably dropping hints for something.
He sets the counter down. “Wait here then.”
He glides out of the room as quietly as he entered. I crumple up in my chair. What a wasted opportunity.
When I was younger, I used to spend my free time outside catching butterflies. There was a slight degree of skill that went into it. If you ran up too quickly, the butterfly would get scared and fly away, but if you went too slow, you would lose your surprise and it would fly away then too.
It’s five minutes past. Where is he? My heart is beating out of my chest. What if something happened to him? I should go find him. My anxiety is fueling my paranoia, springboarding me to the worst possible conclusions. Maybe he died, or worse, I already scared him away for good.
It’s been too long. I’ll go find him. I set down my cards and start making my way down to Ignihyde. The halls of the main building are eerily empty. There must be a logical explanation for all of this. I’m bad at time and I haven’t checked my phone in a while, not that it would matter now because I don’t know how long our game of Magic lasted. He’s probably fine. He’s probably fine.
Despite all my logic, I still can’t seem to shake this paranoia. I hear screams of terror wafting down the halls. Film Club must be watching a horror movie for the spooky season. I hope so, at least. Against all good judgment, I push on. I wish literally anyone was here, some big guy who could do the fighting for me if things got tough, like Jade or Floyd.
Amidst my thoughts, someone grabs my hand and yanks me around a corner.
I shriek and cover my mouth before I realize that it’s just Ortho.
I almost let my body relax, but then I see the fear in his mechanical eyes.
“Ortho?” Panic rises in my voice like bile. “What's wrong?”
“It’s Idia. He’s sick.”
“Oh, is that all it is?” The tension in my shoulders releases, but only a little. “From the sounds of the screams, I thought that gladiatorial games were back in fashion. Where is he? I can help take care of him.”
“Sick isn’t the right word,” his voice is hard and serious as he flits through words in his databank. What has this kid seen?
“What movie is Film Club watching today?” I ask him as some more screams bounce off the walls of main hall.
Ortho looks me dead in the eyes. “Film Club didn’t meet today.”
I hear Idia cackle off in the distance, this time sending chills up my spine rather than releasing butterflies in my stomach.
“Ortho?” I ask, that old fear bubbling up once more.
“Yes, Darling?”
“Do you know what Idia was going to show me?”
“He never told me,” Ortho remarks. “But I did find a word that I think fits better than sick.”
Everything feels prickly and bad. The blood vacates my face as I hear another one of Idia’s cackles in the distance. Of all my worst case scenarios, none were like anything of what Ortho said next.
“Well, what word is it?” I ask him, panic leaching into my voice.
“Possessed. I don’t know what could’ve caused it, but...” His voice trails off, as if he’s having trouble coming up with a proper hypothesis. At least, that’s what I was hoping.
His eyes grow wide, his mechanical whirring hushing. The hand around my wrist clamps harder. The tips of my fingers are starting to turn a bluish purple.
“Ortho?” I whisper. “My wrist-”
I hear the soft tap tap tap of some boots prowling down the adjacent hallway. I can feel the temperature rise with each tap.
“Darling…” I hear Idia’s voice rasp, a mechanical grinding amidst his organic vocals, “I know you’re hiding here…”
My eyes are watering. I can’t turn around. I can’t even blink. My breath catches in my throat. Has he turned the corner? I can’t tell.
By the shadow on Ortho’s face, he must be looming right above me.
Ortho’s tugging on my ever-numbing wrist, a silent plea for me to run, but my body refuses to move from its position. This is my worst nightmare, and I can’t even wake up.
“Seems I’ve found you,” I feel hot breathing on the back of my neck. “And with Ortho, no less.”
I feel his hand land on my shoulder. I can’t even find the voice to scream as Idia’s grip gets tighter on my shoulder.
Ortho yells something I don’t make out and finally yanks me from my spot, flinging me onto his metal back. I cry out in pain as I’m ripped from Idia’s grasp. I feel something cold and metallic and sharp scratch up against my cheek. I hear him howl in frustration as we make our getaway.
Ortho and I end up hiding out in the empty classroom on the first floor where the Board Game Club meets.
“That’s a lot of blood, Darling,” Ortho remarks.
I reach up and touch my cheek and find that my face is slick with blood. My fingers are covered in the viscous red liquid.
“It’s just a scratch,” I inform him. “It’s not that bad.”
“Are you sure?” Ortho asks me, searching around for something to clean up the blood.
I laugh nervously. “I have more blood than this sitting on my bathroom counter.”
“Isn’t that blood fake, Darling?”
“And peppermint flavored, but that’s besides the point,” I awkwardly wave the question away. “You’re programmed with medical stuffs, right? Do you have a bandaid?”
“My lab body is back in Ignihyde,” he informs me, “so I don’t have any of my medical supplies.”
“Okay. That’s okay.” I see the Magic cards left abandoned on the table. The panic starts creeping back into my brian. We won’t stay hidden forever. Idia was originally coming back here. “I should’ve told Idia how I felt while I still had the chance.” “What was that, Darling?”
“Nothing, Ortho,” I try to smile. “Nothing.”
I close my eyes to try and think of a better place to hide, but I keep thinking of what I could’ve said to Idia before he got possessed by... whatever it was that possessed him.
“That’s quite a bit of trouble you’ve got yourself into,” a familiar voice cuts through my thoughts as its owner gently places a bandaid in my hand. “I can help, for a price.”
I open my eyes and see Azul staring back at me. I beam, my eyes starting to well up as he hands me a tissue. “What are you doing here?”
“It’s time for Board Game Club,” he answers, an edge lacing his voice. “Or are you asking about why I was late. I think you know why.”
From the satchel I didn’t notice before now, he holds up a very angry Grim.
“I kept him stalled for as long as I could, myah!” Grim responds, not thrilled about being held by the scruff of his neck.
“Uh, guys?” Ortho asks, but none of us hear him.
“For the band aid stuck to your face and the tissue now covered in your blood,” Azul continues, “all you have to do is tell me why Grim showed up to the Monstro Lounge and started pulling the table cloths off the tables and swinging from the chandeliers once my employees caught on to what was happening.”
“Grim!” I take the mischievous cat weasel thing from Azul to scold him. “I told you to distract him, not trash the Lounge!”
“Guys?” Ortho pipes up, but Azul pays no mind.
The school’s resident mob boss continues, “So, why did you send Grim to trash the Lounge?”
“My plan was to get Idia alone to tell him that I have a crush on him,” I confess to Azul.
“A crush on him?” Azul teases me. “Greaaaat taste there, Darling.”
And then Grim asks me, “Did the plan work?”
I laugh nervously. “Not exactly...”
“Guys!” Ortho yells at us from the open window. “Idia will be here any second! At least according to my tracking.”
“What?” Azul asks, almost offended at the fact that we didn’t tell him something sooner.
“Idia’s possessed,” I summarize for Ortho.
Grim hops back in Azul’s satchel and asks from there, “Possessed by what? One of the ghosts?”
“We don’t know,” I respond, the panic creeping back into my voice as I remember the problem at hand.
Ortho pipes up, “Yet!”
I nod hastily, “Yet, yet is good.”
“Guys…” Panic creeps into Azul’s voice like mold. “I don’t think we’re alone anymore.”
That’s when my ear zeros in on the sound of boots on linoleum and something metal scraping against the walls. I didn’t get a good look at whatever he was wearing when I last saw him. Maybe with his new personality he got a new wardrobe, too. I don’t know.
Looks like we’re about to find out as he starts throwing his body against the door Ortho barricaded from the sound of it. The first thud makes me jump, with each subsequent hit causing my adrenaline levels to rise.
“Good time to jump out of the window,” Azul remarks between thuds, “unless we all wanna end up sleeping with the fishes.”
I can’t bring myself to move. The barricades loosen and once again I am frozen. I have to see what he’s wearing. I have to see if anything about his design changed. I have to know what possessed him.
“Henchman!” I hear Grim yell above Ortho and Azul’s pleas, “I command you to follow us.”
The door breaks open.
Tumblr media
I catch just enough of a glimpse of Idia, only a mere silhouette surrounded by fiery red with a bloody crimson light from the center of his head piercing through my being; a horrible, horrible glimpse, but enough of a glimpse to will my legs to work again and jump out of the window.
“We should run while we still have something resembling a lead,” I anxiously quip as Azul groans.
“Azul,” Ortho rolls his eyes. “Your only other option is dying.”
Grim pokes his head out. “Can I ride with Ortho?”
“Fine.” Azul hands Ortho the satchel. “It’ll make running easier.”
“Don’t worry,” I clasp a hand on his shoulder, “I know a shortcut.”
We share a smile, but the moment is shattered by a mechanized roar from Idia. “Oh you sussy baka!” Robotic tendrils shoot out from the window, just barely missing us. “Where did you vent off to?!”
I don’t acknowledge what he says, rather grabbing Azul’s hand on instinct as a signal to get him and Ortho to start following me.
I’m not the best at running, but at least my theatre kid energy makes me better at it than Idia.
“So where are we running to?” Azul wheezes after a few minutes of nothing but woods.
“By the looks of it, Ramshackle,” Grim responds, chilling oh so smugly in his little satchel.
“Narrishackke,” I correct Grim.
“Is now really the time to try and make Narrishackke happen, henchman?”
“It’s not gonna happen,” Azul manages to get out before collapsing against a tree.
I stop running and ask Ortho, “How far away is Idia?”
He calculates for a second before responding, “Idia will catch up to us in roughly ten minutes.”
“Okay,” I squat down to conserve energy, “so we have some time. We can formulate a proper plan.”
Grim hops out of the satchel and starts pacing. “We have to figure out what’s turned him into such a bloodthirsty monster!”
“Ghosts?” Azul muses.
I shake my head. “Unlikely. He still talks like himself.”
“There were those mechanical tentacles,” Ortho recalls. “And he was wearing some sort of hat.”
Grim rolls his eyes. “So he wanted to be dapper? Big deal!”
I dig deep in my memory for a detail that’s nagging at me. “Ortho, was the hat glowing?”
“There was some sort of red camera lens attached to it,” he replies.
“Like a headlamp?” Azul asks.
“No,” I continue trying to think, “More like-”
I’m cut off by the sound of falling trees and cracking wood.
“I thought you said we had ten minutes!” Azul hisses at Ortho.
Grim climbs back into the satchel and hides.
Ortho looks concerned as he rechecks his math. “I didn’t think he could move that fast.”
“A side effect of this possession?” Azul thinks out loud.
Another roar from Idia shakes the birds from the trees.
“Guys, we’re so dead if we don’t get out of here soon,” I snap them out of their conversation and start running again. Ortho nods and follows close behind me.
Azul takes too long to get up off the forest floor. At the speed of light one of those tentacles we saw earlier wraps its metallic phalanges around Azul’s wrist.
“Guys! It’s got me!” he cries, fear lacing his voice like bleach.
I turn to Ortho and tell him, “Take Grim back to Ramshackle. He knows the shortcut.”
“Be careful, Darling!” Ortho chirps before zipping away.
I rush over to Azul who’s still wrestling with the mechanical hand around his arm.
“You should’ve gotten away while you still had the chance!” he weeps, voice catching in his throat.
“And leave one of my best friends behind?” I remark as I start my attempt to break the tentacle’s grasp. “Fat chance!”
“Do you even have a plan?!”
I continue to stomp on the tentacle, using my foot to create the tension necessary to try and get this thing to snap. “Not at all!”
I survey the scene as it stands. The noises from the forest are getting louder. If I don’t get Azul out of here fast, I can almost guarantee that more tentacles will come for us.
I start trying to pry the fingers of the metal claw off of Azul’s wrist.
“If it breaks, it breaks,” I mutter under my breath.
“I’d rather you didn’t break my wrist,” Azul gripes through the pain. He then takes the cue and helps me pry with his free hand.
A red glow is coming from the foliage.
“We’re running out of time!” he cries out.
“Oh for the love of- Just yank your wrist out!” I scream, my panic getting the better of me.
Azul clenches his teeth and does so. He shrieks in pain as the claws scrape his wrist so hard that royal blue blood starts dotting the ground below. I pull him away from the tentacle and run before it can grab anything else. I lead Azul off the trail, hoping that Idia won’t be able to find us amidst all the trees.
Once the sounds of his jaunt through the woods fade to near inaudibility, I stop running to examine Azul’s injury. His face is pale as tears continue to pour down his cheeks.
“Good news,” I tell him as I wrap the sleeve of my blazer around the wound, “it looks to only be surface level. Keep some pressure on it and then I can get it bandaged up once we get to Narrishackke.”
“Ramshackle,” he corrects me with a touch of laughter in his tone.
I smile. “I said what I said.”
We move carefully through the woods, only by the Seven’s protection or some unrelated miracle that we make it to Narrishackke before Idia. Ortho and Grim look overjoyed to see us.
“Glad to see my henchman is still in one piece, myah!”
I tell Ortho to take Grim upstairs to keep watch and to bandage up Azul’s wrist.
“But Darling,” Ortho gently takes my cold hand in his, “what will you be doing?”
“Keeping watch downstairs,” I respond solemnly. “We still don’t know exactly what’s caused this.”
“Be careful with him, then,” Ortho cautions me.
I nod and start my vigil. “Nothing would hurt me more than making him suffer.”
Ortho takes Grim and Azul upstairs and I double check all of the downstairs locks. The ghosts seem to be keeping their distance today. I guess whatever this is is too much for even them. I could use their comfort now though.
Why is it that the one day I want something to go right everything goes catastrophically wrong? I can’t even cry properly right now, lest I drain what little moral is upstairs with the sounds of my sobs.
What if we can’t fix him? What if all of this is permanent? What if I can’t put him back together? After all the phantom bride stuff, things were starting to look up. I should’ve just left when he did to start getting ready to go to the movie. I have two tickets. I could’ve invited Vil.
Through my sobs, I start to sing quietly in a futile attempt to ground myself or summon the ghosts to my side, or even just to right this upside down world.
“Is it a crime to kill,” the melody of the song passing through my halfhearted sobs in a heart wrenching staccato. “if we’re only sinking deeper and love can’t stop the fever?”
A knock on the door startles me from my thoughts. I frantically look for something sharp and pointy.
“You open that door and I’ll kill you!” I threaten the person on the other end. I don’t care if it’s Crowley himself, I'll stab if he opens the door.
All I find is a pencil. I’m doomed.
“I finally leave my room,” my best nightmare’s voice scrapes against my ears, “and this is how you react? RUDE.”
He slams the door open, confirming my worst fears.
“Darling!” I hear Ortho call from upstairs. “What’s wrong?”
I can’t even open my mouth to scream as I stand in the shadow of the Prefect of the Underworld standing in my doorway, his halo of fiery red hair devilishly backlighting his face, making him look like a fallen angel. I just start crying again as I shakily hold my pencil out in front of me.
I don’t want to hurt him. He’s not himself. But he’ll hurt me if I don’t do something. But I don’t want to hurt him.
He slowly walks towards me, his boots making a heavy thud with each footfall. I slowly back up towards the stairs. My hands tremble, still holding the pencil pathetically between him and I.
“It’s game over for you, Darling,” he bares his fangs in a twisted grin.
In this moment I understand why moths fly towards candles and burn up in their fiery light, for I too am now a moth staring down a candle, every part of my mothy being crying out to be enveloped by the warm, inviting light. Oh how I’d love to grant my cells their wish and let them collapse in the melted candle wax; but, unlike a moth, I have a job to do. I can’t give up now!
The lens attached to his bowler hat glows brighter, as if a light could be filled with rage. If I try to run now, he’ll just grab me and rip my throat out with his teeth.
“I thought you felt differently about me, Darling,” he continues, “but my eyes have been opened. There’s only one thing that could love me as much as you claim to.”
He continues to advance on me, pushing me up the stairs with his presence.
“Are you going to hurt me?” I ask out of the blue, as if I’ve seen this scene before.
I see a pink plastic cylinder on one of the steps through my tears. A candy scented body spray, within arms reach.
“Oh, I’m not going to hurt you, Darling,” the robotic sheen on his voice makes him sound like a vocaloid.
I never moved that bottle of perfume back up to the bathroom, and I’d say my life is at least worth the seventeen thaurmarks the bottle cost.
Idia continues, “I’m just going to bash YOUR FUCKING BRAINS IN!”
He lunges at me, but that Shining reference telegraphed his moves so much even I was able to dodge him and  spray what feels like half the bottle of body spray in his face, causing him to recoil and retch. I pump a few more sprays for good measure and bolt upstairs to Ortho, Grim, and Azul.
“I’ve got more info!” I inform them as I lock the door and wedge a chair under the knob.
I was in the middle of redecorating my guest room, which means furniture is rather scarce. Aside from the chair I just wedged under the door knob, the only place to sit is the floor. Thankfully, there’s still places to hide.
“Well, spit it out!” Grim commands.
“It’s gotta be the hat! Think about it,” I postulate, “first, he tells me he’s got something for me. Ortho, when you found me in the hallway, was Idia wearing a bowler hat?”
Ortho thinks for a second before his eyes widen and his apertures dilate. “Yes, he was!”
“And then something scratched my face as we fled,” I continue. “After that, we started seeing the tentacles.”
“The same ones that scratched up my arm!” Azul exclaims.
“But how is this proof that the hat possessed him and not something else?” Grim asks.
I take time to remember Idia’s exact wording, but Idia beats me to the punch, yelling from down the hall, “Fine! I never needed you, Darling! I’ll just keep this gift for myself!”
“Yeah, that works as evidence,” I remark as he cackles.
“So we have to rip that hat off,” Ortho states. “At least to prove or disprove our hypothesis.”
“I have a plan to get that hat off his head,” Azul announces. “Darling, you’re going to hide and get the jump on him. Us three will distract him so that you can knock his hat off.”
“Any idea what I can knock it off with without braining him?”
Just then, there’s a loud thud against the door.
“No time,” Azul responds. “You’re smart. You’ll think of something.”
I nod and move the chair back to where I decide to hide just as Idia kicks the door off its hinges.
He starts to growl, “There you are, Azul! And Ortho, too. How wonderful.”
“H-hi, Idia,” Azul stutters, eyes wide.
“You don’t appear to be at the club meeting today,” Idia rasps menacingly. “That’s not very poggers of you.”
“I had some,” he shoots a glare at Grim, “things to deal with at the Lounge.”
“A shame, really,” he sighs maliciously, “because based on that look you gave Darling earlier, I would’ve assumed that you would’ve wanted to hang out with her.”
“What are you going on about?” Azul asks, genuinely confused.
“Don’t play dumb!” Idia shrieks, moving closer to him, and therefore me. “I saw the way she looked at you through Doris. I know what I saw!”
Grim pokes his head out from behind Azul. “Myah? Who’s Doris?”
He grins and gestures to the bowler hat enveloping his face. “She’s Doris. I found her in some storage room around campus. She promised she would help me and she opened my eyes.”
Just walk a little bit closer. Just walk a little bit closer and I can knock that evil thing off of your head.
And then Ortho asks him, “But what does this have to do with Darling?”
Idia whips his head around and focuses on Ortho with laser-like intensity.
“Darling,” Idia runs over each syllable in his mouth like a flavorless wad of gum, “is a tease. She may act like she likes me, but Doris and I know better. There’s any number of guys she likes more than me. Like Vil,” he turns his attention back towards Azul, “or you.”
Azul sighs, “I’ll have to pay her back for this, but I have photographic evidence that Darling likes you.”
Idia scoffs, “Like I would believe you over Doris! Get pwned!”
I tighten my grip on the chair I’m hiding behind to keep from screaming. You’ll have to pay me back in a lot more than Monstro Lounge drinks if you leak those DM’s, Azul!
At this point, Idia is looming above the still seated Azul. Once Idia’s distracted again, I’ll strike. Now is not the time to miss my chance overthinking everything.
Azul grins mischievously. I’m almost more terrified of whatever he’ll say next than this “Doris.”
“Okay, so what if Darling likes me then?” Azul asks. “Are you just that terrified of me liking her back? Of the possibility of me treating her better than a loser like you ever could? I mean, if Vil couldn’t keep her happy, then what chance do you have?”
He’s a good liar, I’ll give Azul that. I know he’s lying and I’m still a little pissed.
Of course, Idia doesn’t take any of this well, letting out a mechanized screech as he lunges towards Azul.
“Well, Azul!” A new rage alight in the red lens on the hat, “looks like it’s time for you to show the audience your flashback sequence!”
Now! Now’s my chance!
Time feels like a thick jelly as I spring up from behind the chair to knock that hat off of Idia’s head. The sound grabs his attention as he turns to me.
“Found you,” he growls, a devilish smile painted across his face.
Using nothing but momentum and lucky timing, I manage to tackle the unsuspecting gamer and rip the hat off of his head. Before we hit the ground, I fling it into the wall. I can hear it spark and sputter in the background.
I gently brush his now blue hair out of his face. The tension in his face melts away when he’s asleep. Based on what Ortho’s told me before, this is a rare site to see. His face is so damp. It looks like he’s been crying for an hour or so. Poor guy...
Ortho taps my shoulder. “Darling?”
“Yeah?” I respond, continuing to brush Idia’s pretty blue fire hair out of his face, gently cupping his face in my hand, running my thumb over his cheek. He’s so... beautiful.
“I need you to get off of him so that I can perform a medical examination,” Ortho continues. “Just to make sure that the hat was indeed the culprit.”
“Oh, right,” I snap back to reality and get up to sit by Grim and Azul.
I don’t talk much. Azul walks me through the recent changes he made to his Urza deck, but it all goes over my head. I hold Grim in my lap and give him pets. I can’t seem to find where I threw that bowler hat.
Idia eventually comes to, given a clean enough bill of health by Ortho. Azul immediately rushes to Idia’s side to apologize for baiting him by calling him a loser earlier, while also telling Idia that he will not be giving him any emotional compensation for it.
I see the way Idia looks at Azul, and I can only wonder if a quiet guy like him could ever want to be with a high octane girl like me. He smiles, and laughs, and takes Azul’s hand. I must just scare Idia. He’s never that calm with me.
It all comes back to butterflies. My heart feels like a butterfly crushed underneath a hunter’s boot.
“You alright, henchman?” Grim asks me.
“I will be,” I respond, dejected.
I get up to go get Idia a glass of water. Seven knows he needs it.
I grab a glass from the cupboard and fill it up with tap water from one of the good sinks in the dorm. I should get him a snack, too. So, I set the glass of water down on the counter and rummage around for a bag of chips or something.
I feel a low rumble, like a car driving by, only shorter. Not to mention cars don’t drive out this way. My heartbeat picks up the pace. I drop what I’m holding and look at the glass of water on the counter. There are faint ripples on what should be a still surface. There’s no way...
As the rumbles become more pronounced, the ripples do too. I start to pray that I’m wrong and that this sound of thunder is only attached to a storm, but there’s no way. There’s no way!
I race back upstairs to the others and blurt out, “There’s a t-rex coming.”
“What are you talking about, Darling?” Azul pinches the bridge of his nose.
“Do you not feel the rumbling?”
“It’s probably just a storm,” he continues.
Ortho pipes up, “According to the local weather report, it’s clear skies for the rest of the day.”
“Well,” Azul tries to save face, “there’s got to be a logical explanation for this that isn’t t-rex.”
And then a mechanized roar like something out of Transformers rocks the dorm. I look out the window.
And I see it. I see the terrible lizard king himself. I see the beast trampling through my forest. And I see it heading straight for us.
“Dammit, Doris,” I hear Idia mumble. “I just needed you to hold sewing patterns in place, not this!”
“Doris?” Grim asks, “What does that cursed hat have to do with this t-rex?”
“She told me that she had a plan if things went wrong,” he continues. “And I guess getting slammed up against a wall counts. I have no idea how she could’ve gotten a t-rex but it doesn’t surprise me that she did. I should’ve known that hat was sus.”
“You didn’t build it?” I ask him.
“I found her in one of the storage rooms. She was broken, and soaking wet, so I fixed her up.”
The t-rex has gotten closer and at this point I can now see the tiny little bowler hat on its massive reptilian head.
It roars again; an earth shattering, mechanical scream as it starts to bull rush the dorm.
I sprint across the hall, too panicked to tell the others to do the same. Thankfully, they all had the same idea I did.
From across the hall, we watch the t-rex smash a hole in the side of my guest room. Note to self: twist Crowley’s arm to make sure he repairs that.
The boys ready themselves to fight this fierce beast. As always, it’s my job to keep them on track.
Grim looks up at me, crackling with excitement. “What’s the plan, henchman?”
“Try not to kill it,” I say, “but if you must, make it instant!”
They ready their pens and start slinging as many spells necessary to take the beast down.
I was doing my part by singing “Walk the Dinosaur,” since it’s the only dinosaur song I can think of, not to mention a bop.
It was a ferocious battle, with Idia’s defense being the only thing between them and a fate similar to that of the lawyer from Jurassic Park. Azul manages to sharpshoot the bowler hat dead in its lens with a jet of water so pressurized you could powerwash the grime off of Narrishackke with it. The thing eventually roars its last as it is soon felled by my team; falling to the earth with a thunderous crash. We go out to investigate, but the hat is nowhere to be found.
I examine what I thought was a corpse of a t-rex, only to find that it’s somehow only been knocked unconscious.
Azul sees the gleam and my eyes and asks me, “Do you want me to shrink the t-rex down for you so that you can keep it as a pet?”
I nod rapidly. “I’m gonna name him Nathaniel.”
“Of course you are,” Azul sighs. “This won’t be cheap, you know.”
“I figured,” I say as I text him an IOU. “Next time I have my wallet, come talk to me.”
He nods and starts getting to work. Grim and Ortho wander off to continue looking for the hat, but I have something more important to do.
“So... Idia,” I slide up next to him, wringing my hands anxiously, “ I know you said earlier that-”
“When I had the hat on?” he cuts me off, voice pinched. “Darling, whatever I said about you when I was possessed by Doris, just, pretend I never did.”
Now’s my chance now’s my chance now’s my-
“Then, would you like to come see the ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ movie with me?” I ask him. “I originally bought two tickets, and you’re the only person I know that cares about this series as much as me.”
His hair turns bright pink tip to root. I can practically see the 404 error screen plastered on the walls of his mind right now.
“I wouldn’t want to intrude!” he finally exclaims. “You probably bought that ticket for someone else!”
“I did,” I confess. “For Grim. Because I was going to drag him along if you said no.”
“But you said you were going to get all dressed up for this.”
“Plans can change, and if we leave now we’ll arrive just in time.” I smile, extending my hand for him to take. “And I’d rather have you there than some nose and scar wax.”
He grins; nervously, excitedly, dreamily. He smells like candy. He gently takes my hand, as if I’m a Warhammer model he’s afraid of breaking or an unsleeved Black Lotus card. His hand is so soft, and warm, and wonderful. I’m holding his hand! I could cry if I wasn’t already so giddy.
I see a moth flying away in the distance towards some unknown light. I smile. The dust from the t-rex is still settling, making everything look hazy and dreamlike. And yet, I’m so lucky. Eat your heart out, Eliza! Eat your heart out, Doris! Eat your paradoxical heart out, Eckles!
The next day, Azul and I meet up to talk to Crowley about what is to be done about Narrishackke.
“Oh! So that’s what happened yesterday afternoon,” Crowley laments. “Has the press caught wind of this?”
“Not yet,” I respond, still worn out after the events of yesterday.
“We’ll leak it if you don’t answer some questions first,” Azul applies some pressure.
“Ortho did record everything,” I state.
“Fine, fine,” Crowley reclines in his office seat. “What is it you would like to ask?”
“First, where the hell were you?” I ask, doing my best to censor my language.
“Oh, well I was in my office. I initiated lockdown mode when it notified me that there was a prehistoric creature roaming the woods.” He smiles. I can feel my blood pressure spiking.
“How nice for you,” I respond, pissed.
“Next question,” Azul takes the floor. “What was that hat Idia found?”
“Unfortunately, I don’t know,” he sighs. “I would check the library or ask one of the ghosts if you really care.”
“Okay, final question,” I ready my statement, “what are you going to do about the damage Nathaniel caused to House Narrishackke?”
“Narrishackke?”
“She means the ramshackle dorm building she and Grim are living in,” Azul pipes up.
“And I named the t-rex Nathaniel,” I state proudly.
“I’ll just give you a blank check,” he says quickly, exasperated. “Aren’t I just so generous?”
I take the blank check from him, “Yeah, generous works.”
After we leave the office, Azul asks me, “So what else are you gonna charge Crowley’s card with?”
“Whatever it takes to deck out a room for Nathanial,” I beam. “And an Emrakul, the Promised End.”
“Why?” he asks me, baffled.
I smirk. “I still have to beat Idia in a game of Magic.”

Grim
Lilith
Ghost King?
Tumblr media
"to the notes!" Lilith takes out her note book "ok according to the client he lost his watch in the abandoned house outside of the schools walls it was taken by the ghost king! heh i told him I'd search for clues on Saturdays sense Fridays we have school!"
the shrill voice of Grim spoke up "can't we go tonight!?" Lilith gives him an upset face "no school is important we have a test on Friday!" Grim groaned as she mentioned that "why would you make me remember that?"
Lilith smiled "Saturdays we're on the case Grim, unless of coerce your scared!"
Grim jumped up an puffed out some fire "i an't scared of nothen especially of some ghost!" he huffed
"good! can't have your henchmen get hurt can yea" she giggled
--- Saturday night---
Grim pouted "why did we have to show up at night?"
Lilith took out the notebook "according to the client the ghost king doesn't show himself unless it's night time! we won't be able to ask for the watch back if he's not around"
"we could just take it?" Grim says hating to have to explore another abandoned building
"stealing is wrong! an besides the ghosts we've met so far have been nice once he sees we mean no harm I'm sure he'll give us back the watch!" she skipped down to the trail making it to the abandoned house that stuck out in the woods outside the school
"Lilith look!" Grim points at the house as the windows lights flicker one window on the second floor turn on then off an the ones on the first floor turn on then off just as fast.
"this is a good thing!" Lilith cheered
"good how!?" Grim yelled
"we know the ghosts are home!" she said smiling getting up to the door an knocking on it. a huge crash could be heard on the inside which did manage to make Lilith jump a little only because it was so loud.
but as soon as the crash subsided the door creaked open on it's own sense it was so dark she turned on her flashlight as her other hand held Grim's paw so they wouldn't feel alone or left out.
"hello! Mr. Ghost king! I'm here to get the watch that my friend left here" while she couldn't see anything she heard disembodied voice threw the walls spoke in almost a whisper in both her an Grim's ears
"we've been expecting you~"
Grim shivered he glanced to the side seeing a shadow move in the hallway across from them "stay back Lilith!" Grim jumped in front of her shooting his flames at the figure that retreated in the hallway
"was that the ghost king?" Lilith asked she didn't see what Grim saw
"not sure but he got way to close for comfort, Don't worry Lilith i'll protect you after all I'm your boss-" before Grim could finish his speech the wood planks on the floor shook
Lilith grabbed Grim an jumped on a table "how's a table gonna stop-" as soon as her feet landed on the table the shaking stopped "seriously!!! why did that work?" when Grim tried to jump down the floor shook again so Grim jumped back up on the table "what gives"
Lilith hums to her then then rests her fist on her palm "i got it! they're playing a game!"
"a game?" Grim spat
"yea a game! Deuce told me about something similar he said it was called....oh right the floor is lava!"
"that's dumb"
"got a better idea?"
he did not so they went with that theory for now Lilith carefully jumped from the table to the couches that seemed to be placed near each other convenient! Lilith thought.
Lilith jumped to the next room this time as she stepped on the floor it didn't shake "we passed heh!"
Grim was huffing an puffing "the ghosts are playing games!"
"maybe that's why the ghost king took that guys watch because he lost all the games" that's her theory anyway
"so then what's the next game then!?" Grim asks puffing mad as can be
Lilith turns on her flashlight "oh no" Grim gripes as Lilith is practically skipping with joy "hopscotch! Quinn taught me how to play this one!"
Grim rolled his eyes "i know once he showed you he gave you chock an you wouldn't stop making them for weeks!"
"you just don't like it cus your bad at it!" she teased
"that's not true i could be good if i applied myself!"
"then apply yourself!" she said as she then started to jump the hopscotch jumping across before reaching the finish line "your turn Grim!"
Grim was annoyed but saw how much fun Lilith was having an deciding to go with it. after completing Lilith was clapping which suddenly filled him with pride "see told you i was cool!"
"never doubted you!" she said holding his hand as she walked to the next to the room
the voice returns again louder then last time
"you have done well you have one last challenge if you pass i shall return what was taken!"
"bring it on!" Lilith said ready for whatever the challenge could be
"A brave one we shall see how long that lasts!"
a vase floats down to the center of the table
"reach inside if you dare!"
"leave this to me Lilith as your boss i can handle this!" Grim was practically shaking but Lilith was being brave all night so it's his turn! he reached his paw in only for the vase to vanish to completely disspear.
"Congratulations the both of your have past!"
out from the ceiling descends a ghost with mask an long cape
"it is i the ghost king! you both have proven yourself worthy of my respect, Here the item you have come for!"
the ghost floated over a big shiny watch
"the foolish human who came before failed all my challenges so i took this as punishment!"
"i knew it" Lilith whispered
Lilith got out her notepad "Mr. ghost king can i interviews for my paper"
the ghost seemed to be thrown by the by that question
"o....of coerce but make it quick I'm a busy ghost after all!"
"sure thing! First question how long have you been the ghost king an when have you started challenges?"
"years long before you were born as for the challenges that was only recently!"
"why is that?"
"hmm i guess i wanted to see if i could keep the living on there toes"
"oh i see an in the paper do want me to call you Ghost king or do you prefer another name?"
"...Ghost king is fine! now human return to your home it is quite late after all"
"ok an thank you for the interview!" Lilith picked up Grim an headed out it was all around a eventful night
--the paper!--
The client was a student in Octavinelle who came to me telling me that the ghost king stole his watch! the place was abandoned house outside of the walls of the school. why he was there so late he didn't comment however as soul detective of the news paper club i had to investigate further!
according to client the ghost only appears at night so me an my trusted partner Grim.
good news the ghost king is real an in fact only took the watch in the first place was because the client failed all the challenges luckily me an my partner was able to get past them!
so he was kind enough to return the watch! it seems the ghost king is just eager for people to take his challenges seriously!
I was able to return the client his watch he seemed surprised but that's understandable he probably didn't think i could get past those hard challenges!
Another case closed! please come by if you have another mystery for me to solve my door is always open!

Okay, but what if Fazbear’s Fright opened? (And other concepts)
This version of the (in?)famous FNAF 3 attraction did float in my head sometime ago, but looking at spooky attractions on my off-time has made me want to revisit and expand it. This’ll essentially be a concept (maybe for a fan game or fan model? idk), so don’t think I’m working on anything straight away.
With all that preface, let’s kick off Spooky Season properly, shall we? Details will be below the cut, since it’s somewhat lengthy.
*It’s a couple of years after 2023. By some miracle, the attraction known as Fazbear’s Frights has successfully opened to the public and is still going. Yes, even with Springtrap as one of the leading “stars”.
*In fact, it’s been so successful that the company’s wanting to expand the building and work with newly uncovered legends. Tales of circus-themed animatronics escaping some bunker, a pigtailed ringmaster haunted by her maker’s daughter, and even things that could only be found by those looking into newspapers further back from the 80s.
*The remodel is almost complete, save for some animatronic “training” that has to be done for the newcomers. At least they’ve found an unused Baby animatronic that seems to be cooperating with the staff.
*...But I’m getting ahead of myself. I’m supposed to be giving a tour of the building, not a tour of the “lore”.
*So, let’s go back to the beginning. Or, more accurately, the hallway that greets you as you walk in. Here you will see various items hanging up on “brick” walls. Old posters, newspaper clippings, and even a few drawings left over from actual Freddy locations. A person dressed in tattered Fazbear employee attire will be in the sales booth, acting as if you were returning to the remains of the restaurant itself. You even get a few souvenir Faz-Tokens, if you want to try the arcade machines.
*After you get your safety warning spiel from a more urban-looking employee, you step inside an updated version of the original FNAF 3 office/hallway combo. The lighting is more bluish-gray than musky-green, the night guard should be looking more bored than stressed, and your nerves are to be more relaxed... Until you realize that Springtrap is nowhere to be found.
*(Side note: The reason for this is to prepare the guests for a different type of horror on top of all the jump-scares. Something a bit more.. concerning without crossing the line. Besides, Springtrap’s been weirdly antsy about one of the new finds and nobody’s been able to convince him that it’s just another rabbit robo-skeleton. So the jumps are more environmental-based than monster-based.)
*Everything else looks “normal” up until you reach the hallway in CAM 5. For whatever reason, it’s been transformed into a spinning tunnel that threatens to tear the establishment apart. Bricks whiz past, colored streaks of light swirl around, and whispers of unfamiliar voices echo as you draw nearer to the tunnel’s exit.
*But, once you’re past that tunnel, everything is different. The rooms are still dilapidated, but it’s clear you’re not in the remains of a pizzeria anymore. In fact, things are now seem a bit more disjointed. At least there are unseen voices of the past (provided by cleaned-up video recordings) giving you some context.
*One of these areas is where the newfound Baby animatronic resides. You suddenly take on the role of an technician on your first day, ready to repair the robot. However, there is a chance that your operation will “wake” her up— Especially if you give her one too many controlled shocks.
*Another is a smaller replica of Fredbear’s in its glory days... But the animatronics are nowhere to be found, along with the chattering guests you hear all around you. It should be a happy place to rest your befuddled minds, but it’s not— Especially with the ancient newspapers lining the stage floor as you are forced to climb up there. If you look closely at these papers, however, you’ll at least have a decent frame of reference for what could have made this place so empty.
*The last place I’ll mention is both the most normal and the most bizarre: A living room pulled straight from the mid-1950s. Why is this here? Well, the company’s found a unique type of horror story to tie all the other ones together: The apparent childhood of one of the Fazbear founders.
*So, in this place, there is a chance that you’ll catch something alarming: A sudden change to a (recreated) local news report on the analog TV, projected shadows on the wall showcasing a typical afternoon in this tense household, or even the cries of a small British boy as thumping comes from underneath the floorboards..
*If you happen to flee the scene during that last part, you’ll have a near-seamless transition to the last section. By this point, you’ll have returned from the “Land of Memories” to Fazbear’s Fright.. All while an equally frightened and pleading Springtrap is waiting for you behind a locked door.
*You see, the company’s decided to offer a workaround for the rabbit’s sudden skittishness. If he’s so determined to hide out of sight instead of jump-scare out in the open, then why not “lock” him back up in the ‘Safe’ Room and let him scare guests indirectly? It’s not like putting him right next to the ‘50s Afton household is going to drive him even more hysterical..
*Anyway, the tour wraps up with a robotic skeleton of a rabbit bidding guests farewell. This guy was supposed to just be Springtrap’s replacement for the first half, but it appears that his AI’s made him too smart for his own good. Not in a “oh he mimics everyone too well” sort of way, but in this... uncanny, manipulative sense. Like he’s done this before when he wasn’t a bare-bones pile of metal. The fact that he can tie a tie like a normal human does not help shake off that ‘haunted’ sentiment.
*There is a gift shop after you exit, but nothing’s been really stocked yet. Plans are to include new plushies of Springtrap, “Circuit-Baby”, and most likely some Freddy Fazbear restocks. T-shirts and other merchandise should line the walls, but that layout’s not set in stone yet.
*Of course, there’s always the chance of a last minute change. Props could be moved, not-recorded story beats could be altered, and last-minute animatronic malfunctions are possible. This is just a rough outline of what the company is planning on a “perfect” walkthrough could look like... Jumpscares aside, because where’s the fun in detailing where those could be?
*I guess if you want a synopsis of Fazbear’s Fright 2.0, it’s this: You return to the place where fun and fantasy have fled, go down a “supernatural” rabbit hole, and you somehow wander through the haunted mind of a once-arrogant Springtrap. Will you make it back without being consumed by the past of someone– or something– else?
