Jokes aside, i love cherries! Especially sour cherries. We had a sourcherry tree in front of my childhood home and it was so delicious. Also interesting as well! The cherries were super dark, almost plum coloured when the fully ripened. Ahhh.. a loved it so much. Thank you for bringing back that memory! 🫂💞

Tiny Vessel also loves cherries. They are excellent for exercise and double as a delicious snack afterwards.

"And if I don't?"

"If you don't, we'll have a problem." the imposing presence of Jungkook makes itself known next to her.

She feels his hand on her lower back, his fingertips sending a slight shiver up her spine even through the thin fabric of her dress. Y/n glances to him, he's an epitome of perfection, from the top of his styled hair to his formal suit, but his eyes are fixed on Taehyung in a challenging stare.

Taehyung has the inclination to say something, it's clear this is not his first encounter with Jungkook. He doesn't in the end, swallowing a discontented gulp of his glass before walking away.

"Are you okay?" Jungkook's head swivels to her.

"I'm fine." she discreetly puts some distance between herself and the dark haired man, still avoiding to look him in the eyes. It's like he has such piercing gaze, searching for an inkling inside her that she's foreign to...

"Come, let's get you a drink. Don't just stand there all night." he grabs her wrist, not bothering with her evasion of him.

Her options are limited, she lets him maneuver her through the hallway and to a calm place in the foyer.

Jungkook whispers an order to one of the maids, not a minute later the woman's return bringing an iced, red colored drink with her on a tray that is unlike the champagne most other guests consume.

"I don't want alcohol."

"It's not. It's a cherryade receipe from Greece."

Satisfied with that explanation, Y/n accepts the glass, taking a few sips. The taste of sourcherries mixes a combination of sour, bitter and sweet, its fruity perfume offering it an aromatic taste. "Do you travel? Some of the items in the mansion are originar to other countries from Europe."

"You noticed?" he muses at her keen sense of observation. "Not anymore. I used to travel before old man Franco died and I inherited the mansion. I have to take care of business here." though that's not the entire truth.

"Aunt Charlotte told us you got your doctorate to the best university in France, why stay here when you could have become a successful businessman somewhere in a big city?"

"This island has sentimental value to me." his gaze dips upon her while she's glimpsing over the attendees of the party.

Y/n sees how it lingers on the curve of her neck from the corner of her eye, his irises darkening imperceptively, and she's shaken back to reality: even if he comes off as an ordinary man, it doesn't change the peculiarity of last night's scene.

"I know this might offend you, but please stay away from my sister." she hands him the drink, finally confronting the unspoken issue. "She's interested in you but if you have ill intentions, I ask you to think carefully about this. I will not let you harm my family in any way."

Jungkook chuckles. "Brave little thing, aren't you?" his touch is edged with the tug of his lips upward, stroking a strand of her hair between his thumb and index finger. "Pretty, too..."

Her brows knit, he's not taking her seriously, yet it's not just because she's a girl.

It's because she's unaware of many things.

"But are you really worried for your sister or for yourself?" he towers over her, once again messing her unyielding composure. "Do you want me to stay away from her...or from you?"

Here's a drawing of Mapleshade, before the incident.

+ her name i might be using for the slovak fan-translation i'm doing - Višňotieň!

(or Višňošero/Višňosrsť/Višňotma, meaning (sour) Cherryshadow/shade/pelt/dark. I am very indecisive.)

I decided to change her name because, the normal translation pf her name would be "Javorové šero", which is kinda long and i kept messing up her name with Appledusk's (Jablčný súmrak, or Jablkomrak (Applecloud)) and vice versa.

Plus it gives me the excuse to use Višňa- in a warrior name. Sourcherry- is not a prefix that you would use in english, but "Višňa-"? Sure is shorter than "Čerešňa-"! (a regular cherry).

Her name is still not set in stone though, i might think of other names for her that might also work.

(I have also been considering making a blog for the translation? We'll see about that. I do have the first chapter (mostly) fully translated though!)

As a clueless American can I ask about the yummy Hungarian food 👀

Hohoho boi.

Our main spice is paprika as i'm pretty sure everyone and their granny knows.

Hungarian cuisine is tradirionally a 3 parter: Soup, main dish then dessert.

The most known soup is Gulyás which foreigners often mistake for stew, which coincidentally we can make FROM gulyás soup.

Hungarians were never a rich people generally speaking, so culturally we formed this mentality where

A) you shall not waste food

B) whatever food you make shall be delicious and filling, to give you energy for the day

That means food here is also rich in fat. One dish can often be taken further to make another kind of dish of it. (Stew from gulyás)

Well known soups, and often used: bone soup(it's basic soup with string noodles, bone is cooked in water and gives the flavor, one of my fav soups)

Fruit soup(often also used as the dessert)

Sourcherry, cherry soup. Same as fruit soup except it only contains (sour)cherry. I personally don't like these since i don't like soups that are sweet.

Classic veggie soups, chicken soup.

Then the main dish is usually something thicker like Paprikás csirke(my top fav:chicken paprikás)

Or pottages like potatoe pottage with snitzel(fairly certain these kind of dishes are everywhere)

Or another i like is spinach pottage with meatloaf.

My lunch today was paprikás krumpli.

And then to switch to dessert(google these for maximum drool):

Gundel palacsinta(it's a kind of crépe), somlói galuska, arany galuska, mákos guba(hmmmmmmmmm)

Oh man i must stop for the sake of my sanity

Jennifer Gospod sour cherry and walnut cupcakes

I have a lot of feelings about Jenny and the idea for these cupcakes came in a flash of inspiration on my way back from work. I had to make them that evening! And I did.

Now, like Hanna is a foil for Lucifer, Jenny is a foil for Brutus and, while she's might not be the backup Rock, she is Brutus's rock and I tried to link them a bit with the walnuts and the vanilla. And the sour cherries just felt like the perfect fruit for her.

I can't describe this particular combination of flavors, but angels were singing when I took the first bite. Just... trust me on this (and give them a try, if you can)

Recipe on ao3 and under the cut

I you're wondering about vișinată, it's a sort of liqueur made with sour cherries

Ingredients:

50 gr butter

150 gr sugar

1 tbsp vanilla essence

2 eggs

3 tbsp ground walnuts

2 tsp baking powder

150 gr flour

5 tbsp sour cream

200 gr sour cherries (cut in half, no pits)

1/4 tsp salt

Preheat oven (Gas Mark 4/180° C/350 F)

In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar

Add the vanilla essence and beat in the eggs

Mix in the walnuts, the salt and the baking powder

Gradually mix in the flour and sour cream

Add the sourcherries

Spoon the batter into the muffin tray and bake for about 30min.

Frosting

Ingredients:

250 gr mascarpone

3 tbsp sugar

red food dye

1 tbsp vișinată (sour cherry liqueur) or sour cherry syrup

Mix everything together until stiff
