Addiction's Pathway From a Mourner's Perspective
Addiction’s Pathway From a Mourner’s Perspective
My family has a personal connection to the opioid epidemic. Shortly after my grandmother’s death 10 years ago, my grandfather took a quick turn for the worse in terms of grief and coping.
He continues to be in his ever non-linear stages of denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance – though I would say acceptance is the phase in which he lingers farthest from.
When he lost the love of…

Applied Knowledge
The greatest area I applied my knowledge was in thinking about critical issues facing higher education and how those issues affected the groups I was serving. Coincidentally, I have been taking my critical issues class the same semester as my internship. Undocumented/Daca students made the American Association of State Colleges and Universities list for top issues facing higher education in 2017 ( AASCU Government Relations, 2017). College affordability and social issues also made the list. Time and time again I saw students being faced with these issues. One thing I really admired about UEP that was a little less traditional was their invasiveness. I learned it is okay to be very transparent and aggressive in a positive way when trying to make solutions for students.
What was interesting to me was the intersectionality of many of these issues, and the ways I saw them affecting certain groups more often than others. In my experience, students with certain identities also faced many other similar challenges. Because I was in critical issues the same time I was surrounded by these students in person, I was able to compare and contrast suggestions from the readings and discussions to what I saw happening in reality. UEP was successfully implementing many strategies that addressed the needs of these students.
Another very important take away for me in this regard is that students often do not know what they need or are missing. It helps as a practitioner to have a concrete knowledge of theory and institutional policy, in order to suggest effective solutions for students.

Still talking about my daily read and writes for the month of January and not even at the halfway point yet. In the months time I read bits and pieces of all of these through the day and month plus so much more on Nook, prime, and online - especially essays, #writersresources articles and news topics and more. It's a LOT in a day/month! I am a seeker of knowledge, emotion, heart, story, adventure, balance, and self. At random in a day I'll read bits and pieces of many things. These shared this month are my January reads. I read weekly @newyorkermag Which holds so much for a writer. If you are a writer not reading this are you even a writer? I am currently loving that my subscription gives me access to archives and am reading through the #1930s #1940s and #1950s archives. #amreading #january2020 #januaryreads #coffeeandthenews #newsandcoffee #newyorker #thenewyorker #coffeeandthenewyorker #writer #read #reading #currentevents #politics #pointofview #American #weeklymagazine #journalism #commentary #criticism #essays #fiction #poetry #modernfiction #shortstories #literaryreviews, #socialissues https://www.instagram.com/p/B7oKPRjgYky/?igshid=173w10b6a3w78

In general we talk about sustainable development of resources as in the natural resources, our ecosystem etc. It is quoted by LAILAH GIFTY AKITA that human are the greatest sacred resources. And do we ever see it that way? That we human beings need improvisation and should not exploit ourselves to a level that the future lives on this planet are compromised. Like if we consider only the social development, the question arises is that are we working on this enough that along with taking care of the present issues, are we at the same time leaving the place socially a “better” place to live in rather than a “bitter” place to live in? Speaking of women, are we as women aware, awaken, conscious enough in today’s world so that we have knowledge and we can pass on the same and hence not dumping the garbage and leaving on others to clean it. This is quite ironic because in one hand we are not doing anything and in other hand also hoping that somehow things get better. I’m in no way demeaning those who are doing so much and are fighting for the betterment of women or human in general. All I’m trying to convey is that as a community we need to work together, for each other. We should push each other more, motivate each other to do things that empower us and try not to pull each other down because then we are weakening ourselves only. And then I don’t know how to make this place peaceful for coexistence. One of my favorite quote says “if we are to live together in peace, we must come to know each other well” by LYNDON B JOHNSON. So at least we can start by knowing each other and understanding each other. We can definitely share our similarities and celebrate our differences because only then we can build each other up. Did that make any sense?? 😅 Those who read the whole thing, thank you.. It means a lot. 💟 . . . . #digitalart #womenempowerment #coexistence #paintingoftheday #socialissues #art #artwork #artist #artoftheday #artist_support #young_artist_help #art_sanity #artgalleryhq #art_empire #artist_features #art_promote #art_dailydose #art_spotlight #artstation #artselect #colors @surelysimpleblog @worldofartists @watercolor_daily (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtduMOHgYxn/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=olbfpyy8az1p

We were blown away by this man's brilliant testimony. This is the authenticity of a true activist turned professor who has been through it all and he took us there. It was like we were in Lindsey Dunn's class. To understand #blacklivesmatter, one needs to understand slavery, the oppression of black and brown people, Apartheid, the Civil Rights movement, The Black Panthers movement, etc. The Black Lives Matter atrocities and the fight for freedom and civil rights have always been a global movement and it will never end. In a logical sense and wishful thinking, the only way to get rid of racism, white supremacy, whiteness and entitlement, is to send all white people on a remote island and let them kill each other. And then, we'll finally have our freedom, justice and our peace. Thank you for sharing your rich knowledge. Your wealth of insights will inspire, enlighten and educate so many people. As a producer, I love it when my people are socially conscious and woke. This is exactly what we need in this society. Let's give it up for Jubil Khan who did an amazing job as the interviewer! Someone give this woman a job on The View. 👏🏽🙌🏽😍🎥✊🏽 #resistthroughoureyes #jadefilms #pocdeaftalent #aslvoicesmatter #tellingourstories #socialissues #humanrights #civilrights #freedom #spreadingawareness #Docseries #documentaryfilmmaker

The Delicate Balance of Profiling & Ignoring Stereotypes
The Delicate Balance of Profiling & Ignoring Stereotypes
In the social work profession, the practice of cultural competence is largely talked about and desired in any practicing social worker. It is so sought after, that the National Association of Social Workers has Cultural Awareness listed in the Social Workers’ Ethical Responsibility to Clients section of the Code of Ethics. As it is spoken of in many freshmen-level courses, the goal of cultural…
