The story of how I was diagnosed with ADHD and Autism

Having been born with ADHD and Autism, my life has gotten rough and also having to deal with it has been a struggle for me. Like I mentioned in a previous blog, I was born with ADHD and Autism, but wasn't diagnosed until I was 13 years old. I remember the day I was diagnosed like it was yesterday. I had been seeing psychologists and an occupational therapist on and off for a few years, when I was younger. My parents decided to take me to a psychiatrist, when I turned 13. I sat in the waiting area of the practise, thinking: "Just another specialist I have to see for my what looks like a never-ending list of problems I seem to have. I wonder what this one will say?" The psychiatrist came out of his office and called me to follow him.

I followed him to his small and neat office. He sat on one couch and told me to take a seat on the other couch that faced him, naturally I sat down, apprehensive the whole time. He looked at me then proceeded to write something on his notepad. I don't know about you, but I have always hated it when people do that.

Anyway, we then talked for a while, him sometimes looking at me, sometimes writing in his notepad. Then he told me something that, at that time shattered my whole world. He told me I was born with ADHD and Autism, but nobody could diagnose me until now. I sat there thinking, you know my whole life I thought I was "normal."

That's what's the problem in today's society. We all are trying to fit into the ''social norm", trying to be "normal." The thing is, I don't think we, as a society know what's normal anymore. Just because a person's different, doesn't make them less. I think that I will always emphasize this message.

It's January 4th, World Braille Day. On this auspicious day in 1809, a child named Louis Braille was born in 🇫🇷 Coupvray, France. Young Louis was 👨🏼‍🦯 blinded at the age of three by an accident in his father's harness-making shop. Despite his disability, Braille excelled in his education.

While he was a student at the Royal Institute for Blind Youth in Paris, he began developing the 📚 reading system for the blind that he'd eventually become world-famous for. Braille's creation involved a code he invented himself and used cells that contained up to six dots, making it possible for a 👆🏽 fingertip to feel an entire cell with just one touch and move quickly to the next cell.

Braille spent the rest of his life teaching at the institute and perfecting his system, but unfortunately didn't live long enough to see it put into use. Braille suffered from a respiratory illness (probably tuberculosis) most of his adult life and finally succumbed to the disease in 1852 at the age of 43.

Two years later, thanks to the unrelenting insistence of his students, the Royal Institute for Blind Youth finally officially adopted Braille's system. Its use quickly spread throughout the French-speaking world, but was slow to catch on elsewhere. After his introduction to the system at the first European Conference of Teachers of the Blind in 1873, 🇬🇧 Britain's Dr. Thomas Rhodes Armitage championed Braille's invention, and its use quickly spread over most of the rest of the planet. The 🇺🇸 US was slowest to see the light. It didn't adopt the system until 1916.

In November 2018, the 🇺🇳 United Nations proclaimed that from now on, World Braille Day would be celebrated as an international day every January 4th to show appreciation for Louis Braille and to promote "awareness of the importance of his creation as a means of communication in the full realization of the human rights for blind and visually impaired people." ok im going to say this once and once only:

islam is not a religion that encourages violence

muslims are not inherently violent

so pls don’t make such assumptions

in fact, islam is a religion of peace. extremists who commit despicable crimes “in the name of islam” are going against our deepest core beliefs. it’s like a child being found beating up the school bully and her reason being “my mummy told me”, but in reality, all her mother said is that what the bully does is wrong. similarly, we are never taught anything to even remotely encourage violence.

but do you want to know what we are taught as muslims? we are taught to never force ourselves or our religion upon anyone.

when there is war, we are taught to treat our prisoners with utmost respect.

we are taught that even something as simple as smiling is a form of charity and so we try our best to smile at others.

we are taught to never, ever harm anyone with intention.

it’s ok if you didn’t know this. society has a bad habit of spreading groundless rumours. but if you are reading this right now, i advise you to at least educate yourself properly using reliable sources before you decide to discriminate against muslims.

today, we celebrate a very special occasion in islam, eid, so i want to take this chance to spread awareness.

12.00 am.. It's New Year again 🎊 Crackers exploding, merry melodies, merrier greetings, people in the pubs drunk in that truly old fashioned ritual while their ecstasy knowing no heights, cell phones with their varied tones beeping and beaming with glittering wishes, resolutions painted dark only to fade away while the days passed... "Look at that lone star mumma is he wishing us with a wide grin?", a warm voice made way from the honey smeared lips, munching waffles that made her look like a teddy bear without whiskers. "I wish I could wish him too like I did that day!" Little Diana was only 3years old the day her superman, her Paa took his last breath which makes her feel it was just that day he was by her side.. A year passed the empty country house, with emptier halls and dark vacuum still bear windows huge enough for sunshine to tread in but failed to replace the warmth of those loving arms that kept them safe even in blue winters . "Yes Diana, It is your Paa wishing us a Happy New Year and some extra strength for these little hands to help mumma in baking snowman cookies", a tiny spark lighted up her blue eyes deep like an ocean with truths deeper for lies to drown in sympathy. She was different, divine and angelic. Her happiness in baking snowman cookies was more than watching cartoons and playing toys.With the nose of her father, she was no less than a warrior,ready to fight battles ,swearing to protect her mumma with a plastic sword in her hand.As the night crawls in, a myre engulfs her mumma, " I wish you didn't drink that night, I wish you drove safe and reached sound by our side, I wish you could eat our snowman cookies, while laughing at some crooked shaped ones... Only if ..you were..here..." A year passed, with their hearts bearing the dry flowers in the old vase, still yearning for a spring to plant a green garden 🌿🌾of hope and never ending love 💖 This New Year take up a vow to not drink and drive.You never know the souls attached and the fingers entwined with yours might lose a direction, a guiding light.🌻
