I'm bored, so here is how I'd fix 'The Bad Batch.'
Caveat: Obviously I would've preferred a show centered around clones like Rex, Cody, Fox, Wolffe, Echo, etc. instead of some random "special" clones we've literally never heard of, but that's not what we got so I'm making a post about what we have to work with. Also, obviously I'm not gonna cover every issue about the show, these are just the main things I'd change.
1. Un-whitewash them. In fact, un-whitewash all of the clones, but that's a given.
In the same vein, though, have them actually look like clones. It makes like 0 sense for them to have to hide or have to wear disguises or what have you to hide the fact that they're clones...when they don't look like clones.
I'm gonna be honest, if they weren't introduced as clones in the show, then I wouldn't have had any idea that they were clones. They look nothing like Temura Morrison or the other clones. Fix that.
Or, hell, if people are absolutely dead set on them looking different, have them hate the fact that they look different from the other clones rather than making them think they're so much better than everyone else.
Sure the Kaminoans might've said something or other about them being "better" then the other clones, due to their modifications, but they're also just as likely to have said something negative about them looking different since they want things to be uniform---not to mention that their "special modifications" probably got more attention on them from the Kaminoans, which would obviously be something that sucked ass and probably got them in more trouble/gave them more restrictions.
I feel like it'd be more plausible for them to want to blend in and not want that extra attention- (and everything that comes with it) -rather than them having a whole complex about being "so much better" than everyone else. Especially considering that, generally speaking, their modifications don't really seem to make them any more "special" than anyone else.
----------
2. Get rid of the animosity between TBB and the rest of the clones. It makes no fucking sense.
No more of the "regs" bullshit, no more of TBB not giving a shit about other clones, no more of the bullying that apparently went on on Kamino. None of that shit.
The whole "oh the regs bullied TBB because they looked different, boo hoo" thing doesn't even make fucking sense!!! 99 looked different than all the other clones and they fucking loved him! Not to mention the importance that the clones place on individuality, distinction, and being yourself---it makes no sense for looks, of all things, to be something the other clones make fun of TBB for!!
And, honestly, given how TBB consistently talked about/treated the "regs," I'm more willing to believe that the other clones started "bullying" them in retaliation to TBB calling them "expendable" and acting like they were so much better than them.
But, that's besides the point, anyway-
Have TBB actually care about the other clones, have them be close, have TBB have more than blank faced reactions to finding out their brothers are being mind controlled---actually have them give a shit and want to help, but they're unable to.
----------
1. In the same vein, get rid of the animosity Crosshair has with the rest of TBB. It makes no fucking sense, given the direction they're trying to take with the show.
It definitely makes no sense for them to have this whole plot/conflict thing about "saving Crosshair" when none of them actually seem to like each other.
In fact, make the whole team actually seem like they like each other---right now they seem like strangers who barely tolerate each other that just got locked inside a 7/11 together. If there's gonna be a show centered around them, that's gonna try and sell the idea that they care about each other or whatever, actually make it seem like it!!
Have them have more emotions about being separated from Crosshair, have them fuck up a mission on accident because they forgot he wasn't there, have them be more than just "😐" at everything, for the love of fuck.
----------
3. Instead of making them boring characters that are basically just stereotypes + a one-dimensional version of Echo, give them actual personality.
Also, assuming they keep the abilities the same, let their abilities actually affect them negatively instead of just being a way for them to one up everyone.
Hunter - Give him a habit of being overly anxious. He's supposed to be a leader and he's supposed to be close to his team, so have him be worried about making a wrong decision so he often overthinks things to make sure that doesn't happen. Have him look up to Cody and maybe try to emulate him, since Cody seems to take sort of "older brother" vibes when he's around other people, people just seem to look to him for answers- (yeah because he's Marshal Commander, but also let me just have this). Give Hunter sensory issues, have him get uncomfortable and irritable and upset when things get to be too much.
Wrecker - Instead of making him "stupid, childish, and strong," actually make him smart---he's supposed to be a demolitions expert, so he's not just gonna be a dumbass. Also, maybe make him really protective over everyone and self-sacrificing, believing that he's the strongest so he can take the things that everyone else can't---have him be reckless, not because he's stupid, but because he doesn't want his brothers- (including the "regs") -to do the same thing and get hurt. Give him chronic pain. It hurts to grow and he had to grow a lot more than the others---plus, with all the injuries he's endured from protecting the others, he's bound to have been a little fucked up by those.
Tech - They wanna make him autistic coded? Great, we need more representation, but don't feed into stereotypes this time. Make him smart when it comes to his interests---engineering, technology, etc---but then also have him be lost when it comes to things that aren't in his areas of interest, don't make him know everything because that's not realistic. Maybe give him anxiety when it comes to social situations, me and a lot of other autistic people I know get anxious because we don't know what's "right" and "wrong" in social situations, let him actually have anxiety related to his social awkwardness instead of him just- 😐 -all the time. Have him be curious about things related to his interests and prone to rambling about them---let him be excited to tell other people what he knows instead of just saying- "I thought it was obvious." I'm not really sure what Tech's special ability is supposed to be other than just "smart," so let's just say he has an eidetic memory or something. Give him insomnia. Again, me and a lot of autistic people I know have trouble sleeping, and also let him have stress related to everyone always looking to him for the answers---let him mess up and feel guilty about messing up because "he's supposed to know everything/be the smart one."
Crosshair - Don't just make him an asshole who's always looking for a fight---maybe just make him quiet but with a sarcastic sense of humor, that way it's a lot more shocking when he starts speaking up against Hunter. Let him also be anxious in social situations since he doesn't know how to navigate them, let him look to Hunter or Cody for cues on what to do. Instead of basically saying "let's leave Echo for dead, he's just a reg" in TCW, maybe have him be vocally supportive of Rex whenever someone else shows doubt---have him understand not wanting to leave someone behind, have him care deeply about his brothers, and then let that make it hit so much harder when TBB has to leave him on Kamino. He's supposed to be The Best Sharshooter Ever due to genetic engineering? Great, give him eye problems. Make really bright lights hurt him, so he has to wear his helmet to make things easier on his eyes---maybe have him struggle with seeing things really close to him.
Echo - JUST GIVE ME TCW ECHO BACK, AND LET HIM ACTUALLY HAVE PTSD FFS
----------
4. Finally, change the direction of the story.
Make more of their story center around trying to help Rex save their brothers and try to figure out how to stop the Empire, not just them apparently having the world’s worst luck and being shitty bounty hunter knock-offs. When Rex asks them to help the Rebellion/their brothers/whatever, have them agree to help and go with him rather than Hunter basically just saying- "welp, that sucks ig, but I only care about my fellow "special" clones, so nah."
Have them join the Rebellion and help Rex free the other clones, use the show to give us a deeper look into the clones---what sort of culture they would’ve developed, the complicated relationship they would’ve had with the Republic, etc.
Give us episodes that center around Gregor, Cody, Wolffe, Fox, Rex, etc. and give us insight into what their lives were like after the Empire took over, rather than just having this show about a random group of "special clones" basically copying the style of The Mandalorian.

So I wanted to wait and let the new Bad Batch trailer sink in before posting about it.
Warnings: Spoilers, some thoughts/opinions will be critical
Alright so I don’t think it’s any secret that I don’t care for the Bad Batch. Even ignoring the horrible, incredibly RACIST clone model, the writing is mid/passable at best and not even watchable for me. Most of S1 and 2 combined is the typical ‘mission of the week’ type of story where only a few Empire-focused episodes stand out. There are also instances of ableism concerning Echo in particular (CF99 are also super dismissive of him in general—going along with that whole fucking ‘superiority over regs’ thing—seriously wtf).
Most episodes were very bland and predictable. S1 had no stakes despite its finale. By Mando/ST it’s clear that something has happened to Kamino. Didn’t really need to see a 2pt ep of the city getting wiped. Plus AZI should’ve been sacrificed. Even Ahsoka learns the lesson that you can’t save everyone in S1 when she disobeys Anakin and Admiral Yularen. TBB S2 had no character development from anyone besides a little bit for Omega (and Tech—but that was always speculated by fans since S1 and he’s dead now so it doesn’t really matter). A lot of the dialogue felt…basic. I think the only thing that TBB does well is the music. It’s really amazing and beautiful along with the smooth, crisp animation/scenery. Shame they ruined it with racist clone models, racist tones with the ‘reg’ dispute in both seasons, and being ableist and dismissive towards Echo.
Which brings me to the trailer. Oh boy. First, right off the bat I noticed how similar the trailer opening is compared to the S2 trailer. I do like that Phee is back. She did take time to grow on me but I do like her character and am curious to see where they will go with her.
It’s interesting we are seeing Crosshair back with the group so soon. Personally I do believe that is Crosshair and not just someone else wearing his armor like some think. I like the idea of Omega and Crosshair escaping early on but Omega gets recaptured/separated and taken back to Tantiss.
I’m interested in Hemlock and his backstory (is his gloved hand robotic?). I wish they’d create more interesting and unique characters like Phee and Fennec Shand instead of relying on cameos of established characters/fan-favorites like Ventress. I loved Dark Disciple and I thought it was a great ending for her.
I know it’s officially said that Ventress’ story will follow Dark Disciple but I don’t see how unless they retcon her death or pull a ‘somehow she survived’. Either way that sucks. Reminder!! DAVE FELONY DIDN’T EVEN FOLLOW REBELS FOR AHSOKA. SABINE IS NOT FORCE SENSITIVE IN REBELS. DAVE RETCONS THE SHIT OUT OF EVERYTHING. I have no faith that they will remain loyal to DD. Anything that will be ‘canon’ will be mid at best because even Crosshair’s arc has been messy (which is due to the weird S1 ‘reset’ the characters go through. Like they totally should’ve appreciated ‘regs’ by the end of TBB arc in TCW S7–there was no need for that awkward food fight scene in S1).
I hate that this show has to rely on cameos to get the viewing numbers. Here is a list of every character cameo we’ve seen so far:
—Rex*
—Tarkin*
—Palpatine*
—The Lawquane Family
—The Syndullas/Chopper
—Nala Se/Lama Su*
—Cad Bane
—Bail Organa
—Riyo Chuchi
—Gungi
—Gregor
—Wolffe
—Cody
—Scorch
—Saw Gerrera
—Martez Sisters
—Kanan/Depa*
—Muchi/Rancor from RotJ
—Taun We/Halle Burtoni
—Ventress
*I consider these important/relevant cameos and am not bothered by them like the others*
What a list right? I might even be missing one. These were just off the top of my head. Some are big players, others smaller and almost not-relevant to the plot. Not counting the one’s I asterisked, it’s 15 characters. There are original characters but a lot of them, especially in S1 felt like one off, not important characters. And I hate Cid so much—glad to see she was absent in the S3 trailer. I’m really starting to love Phee and I’ve always loved Fennec Shand, and Hemlock is definitely an intriguing villain and Emerie feels like a total mystery (though the reveal was not shocking due to the similar design and accent to Omega). Like why can’t they create more characters like these? The rest just feel forgettable. And it’s clear that characters like Saw, Gungi, Scorch, Cad Bane and even the Syndulla and Lawquane families just felt like fan service. The rest kind of make sense that they’d show up but it also feels a bit like fan service.
Moving on..
I know a lot of people think that new weird dark trooper at the 1:40 mark is Tech. While I’m inclined to agree as I think the ‘Winter Soldier’ story is an obvious choice to pick, I also think that Tech is dead. I’ve changed my mind and kind of hope that Tech isn’t brought back.
I hope this is someone new. I also wouldn’t mind if it was a bounty hunter we’ve seen before. Due to the frame and stature, I could almost think of Boba due to him being older than Omega but it’s definitely more likely to be Tech than either of these choices.
It’s interesting a lot of cameo characters from S2 do not make an appearance in the trailer. Bail, Riyo, Gungi, Gregor and Cody are all absent from the trailer. Trailers usually show action shots to avoid story spoilers, but with Gungi, Gregor, and Cody all being capable fighters, I’m surprised they didn’t appear (usually stuff with politics is a story spoiler).
Overall I’m skeptical of the trailer. I don’t like Ventress being alive/in TBB being a Dark Disciple lover. There’s a lot of mystery surrounding the story of S3 so I don’t feel like I can give an accurate take on that. I hate how Omega’s longer hair looks. Curly haired Omega is adorable!! The animation (everything but the clone model) is definitely getting better. However, based on how S2 was marketed as a ‘darker story compared to S1’ and was like 80% fetch quest I’m definitely skeptical.
Those of you that made it through this post, thank you for your time and I hope I gave you something to think about. If you wanna learn more about the racism and ableism portrayed in this show, check out @unwhitewashthebadbatch for more info.

On December 4th, we are one month away from The Bad Batch season 2 premiering.
And I just want to make it clear that I don't want to see anybody who didn't say squat about Rex's remaining whitewashing and eurocentric features in Tales of the Jedi, suddenly going up in flames about the whitewashing of The Bad Batch.
If you call out and fight against something as important as racism, you do it all the time. You don't only do it when it's about a character you like, and you certainly don't get to turn a blind eye to it when its your favorite character on screen.

✨ EDMON RAMPART (Amalthia's Version) ✨ You know I once swore to never draw him, well that was of course before he got the James Norrington treatment so it's the Alexsandr Kallus Effect for me again. Talk about from fuck this man to I wanna fuck this man.
Tumblr media
Teeny weeny fandom salt and salt in general coming up so if you don't like that, you can go scroll down. There used to be a cut here but I removed it. I will always be polite, but I know WHEN to talk.
From now on, I will be calling my fanart "Amalthia's version". I hope I don't come across as tone deaf or insensitive about this, but I wish I was good at art.
I've seen posts that say "I wish artists would stop drawing [character name] with [this] or [that]" or "stop drawing [character] with [this]". While it's great to hear about your preferences, please bear in mind that at the end of the day, fanart CAN BE an artist's take on a character. For me, THIS is how I draw Edmon Rampart. This is with regard to the art style I developed and the color palette that I constantly use to keep up with my blog's theme.
Another ick is an ongoing issue in the TBB fandom. In my Hunter and Omega art, I did something I don't usually do, which is add a secondary light source. A few minutes after posting, I got an anon telling me to unwhitewash the characters. I immediately messaged one of my friends for their honest opinion and they said I don't whitewash the characters. I went on to the drawing file and tried to study my own drawing and see if I really did whitewashed the characters. Edit: There really are some artists who whitewash the characters and I was trying to do a SELF-CHECK bec maybe I'm one of them.
I found out that the thing that made the difference is the secondary light source that I added. This secondary light source is lighter in color than their skin, and it created the Contrast Effect. Due to the nature of the human eye and visual processing by the brain, there's an optical illusion that the same color will look different depending on the color beside it and/or the background. It's in psychology class, paying attention would help.
In addition to the secondary light, it could also be the brown background color that caused this effect. And before anyone goes, "are you sure?" Yes, I am. I sat with a Psychology major to discuss about this whole Contract Effect thing.
This does not only apply in colors, it could also be to objects, that why they say all things are relative. One thing could appear bigger or smaller depending upon the object beside it. One of the things they 'check' to see if a certain artist whitewashed a character is the size of the nose. Once again, please do apply Contrast Effect. Some artist really draw their characters stick-like so try to compare all the noses they had drawn in their entire lifetimes and maybe, just maybe they did draw the noses wide in comparison to their other artworks, it just looks like that because it's part of their art style.
Edit: Please do try to analyze things first before casting down your judgement.
It's so difficult to be an artist AND IN THIS FANDOM. We never seem to be enough. If we do the character with artistic freedom, you'll say "stop drawing them like that bec they don't have that in the show" and when we try to draw them as close to the show, you'll say "unwhitewash the characters". We are never good enough for you.
So yeah, I wish I was good at this.

i went on a reblog spree of the unwhitewashing of clone troopers and portrayals of temuera morrison’s characters in star wars a bit ago, mostly awesome edits and stuff, bc like
when i was little i watched Attack of the Clones the most and then Revenge of the Sith the most after that when it came out not necessarily because of their perceived quality but because they had the most lightsabers right, i also played the shit out of Bounty Hunter on the gamecube- point for now is i spent a lot of time looking at tem
i don’t understand why some star wars mediums seem to have so much trouble portraying him accurately? i mean i know exactly why and it’s obv the big R but even if we were giving the maximum benefit of the doubt here… what tf is the deal??? like, my gay ass has known *exactly* what this very pretty man has looked like for years now and this ain’t it?? i’m noticing it more as i’m moving to tumblr and following all these clone-related tags bc i love clone content, so i’m constantly seeing these tcw/tbb screenshots these last several days and i just. ???
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
for a bit i thought maybe they were so audacious as to attempt to blend tem’s features with dbb’s (white) features but no?? the clones don’t really resemble him at all whatsoever?? idk where tf the jaw, cheekbones, chin, eye spacing, hairline & texture, skin tone and even face shape came from, i guess hell or something
Tumblr media Tumblr media
& people have pointed out countless times how they nailed Typho so it’s not as if they just struggle with “✨ethnic✨” features, it was a choice to not really make any concentrated effort to portray tem faithfully? Typho’s model (minus the eyepatch obv) looks more like Temuera in many ways than the clone trooper model and it’s not even fucking based on him, and the two men don’t look alike in real life! They’re both brown men from New Zealand, both Polynesian, yes, but Tem is Māori and Jay is Samoan.
and yknow i could forgive like, the angularity in the lines of the face itself because in the movie and most of season 1 all of the core cast has that kind of exaggeration even where their live action actors totally lack it, and i think it was an art style thing they chose to carry over from the 2003 series? i still wouldn’t *like* it, but if that was it while Tem’s real skin tone and hair texture was intact then I don’t know if we’d be having this discourse. especially when looking at typho and literally seeing that it was done already (but even if there wasn’t already another example), there is no justifiable reason to leave out the bare minimum when adapting a person of color, period
it’s hard to imagine ppl like filoni and lucas literally speaking the words “no make him whiter” or whatever the fuck to the people working on these models at their computers, or for them to literally just make it this way unprompted and for every single person to sign off on it and nobody to be like wait a damn minute… this doesn’t look like the dude in the movie at all??? but also when you really look at all of this stuff and think it through and ask *why* this is “stylized” to the extent it is, where it hardly resembles Tem at all, and *why* this way was preferable to the alternative where it totally looks exactly like Jay, you really burn any plausible deniability there *possibly* miiiight have been.
Why was it fine for one but not the other? Is it that they didn’t want a character model with features like Typho’s shown as often and as prominently as the clones? Why might that be?
at least the toy companies got our backs

Confused why we’re rooting for this. Explain? What did I miss?
[linked post is one calling for the cancelling on the bad batch]
okay so assuming this is in good faith, you missed the whole unwhitewash the bad batch movement. basic summary: the clone models of the bad batch (and season 7 the clone wars) are highly whitewashed. the narrative of the bad batch also has some really terrible racist overtones (because they’re not undertones at this point).
the idea that this batch of clones, all of whom look significantly more like white men than their ‘regular’ compatriots, and all of whom share very little/ no resemble to the man they’re actually clones of, tem morrison, believe themselves to be better than the ‘regular’ clones? and the narrative enforces this! they have ‘desirable mutations’ that make them better suited to elite missions, they get to keep their individuality, they survive order 66 etc.
while all the clone models in TCW and TBB are whitewashed, with varying minimal resemblance to temuera, the whitewashing combined with the general kinda gross idea of the bad batch, is why people want the bad batch cancelled
there’s so much more to the unwhitewash TBB movement though and a much more thorough explanation linked here.
it’s also just. not a good show lol

Lol, I forgot to post this omfg 😭✋️
But anywaaay, here's unwhitewashed Wrecker in the tbb/tcw style-ish simply cause people kept insisting that it was the animation style and that mine were too realistic. So ✨️please✨️ be so kind and just stfup, and realise that the shows are purposely whitewashing the clones and for some reason completely change Temuera's and Taylor's (the actors) face.
I don't ever wanna draw in this style ever again after this project, I am losing my sanity here. 3/6 batchers unwhitewashed 3 more to go 😭
// og pic ⤵️ because it's fkn cray cray //

Hello there! I just wanted to respectfully ask why this is only focused on TBB? Shouldn't it be trying to unwhitewash all clones? Like in Tales of the Jedi? Is it cause it's still coming out so could be changed? Idk, just a question, I love your page!
Thank you for the question!
The hashtag and subsequent social media accounts were built around the airing of the first season of The Bad Batch. We are refocused on TBB because the new season just started airing but we have and will continue to speak about the broader issues of the Star Wars franchise.

I'm new to TCW but...
Do the ones who don't like cloneship/clonecest and yet, devour reader/clone smut or their oc/clone smut, somehow think that makes them better than everyone else?
Because if you think you aren't fetishizing these POC copy and paste men or whatever dog whistle term you are using now, you are my dudes. You are.
Also its a good thing that these self proclaimed "better" TCW fandom milfs don't have people who take them seriously outside fandom (and even there, it seems like they are the ass of the SW fandom joke) because calling people "Incest apologists" is called SLANDER. Because, I don't know how to tell you this kids, but no, no one is okaying incest/apologizing for it/supporting it in the real world. And just because someone writes on their blog claiming that they are -- doesn't mean its true.
Just like the hostile proship ANONS some of these people claim they get. They could be sending it to themselves to get attention. It seems like a lot of them have lost their audience. Weird how when you pollute your good message of Unwhitewash the TBB with falsely accusing disabled people of abilism, calling POCs who disagree with you "internalized colorism?!?" and then supporting artists who CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE MAORI CUSTOMS (they start with an O) and think its okay because someone told them it was okay, you end up on the many block lists floating around TCW fandom.
And that's a YOU problem.
I have surfed around and seen MANY UniBomber style manifestos on these "blogs" with 10 paragraphs of why supposed cloncest/cloneship is, I dunno, fiction that is causing real-life incest? Like, what the fuck? Trying to sound all scholarly, saying that fiction "always influences real life"?
So.. by that logic, all murder authors condone murder? All smut writers condone S&M and dubcon and abusive sex? This is what happens when you try to be a Social Justice Warrior, and use a strawman argument. It doesn't work. I'll assume that most of these people are not even over the age of 25, and have been listening to people tell them everything in black and white. Evangelicals with a gay hat, I guess.
I do not read clone/clone, but I don't consider 3 million guys siblings. Shared DNA only matters for procreation in this context. (and NO I am not saying real life incest doesn't matter because the victim and perpetrator share DNA, I am saying in this context of 3 million xeroxed people, who, and I'll say it slowly, DO NOT EXIST)
I share DNA with people I have never heard of, don't know and never will according to Ancestry. It may be something as small as a single strand from a common ancestor 100-300 years down the line. They are not my family, never will be and anyone arguing that is a lunatic searching for a straw to cling to.
Again, these guys don't exist. Its really fucking sad and scary you guys have to be repeatedly told that.
I challenge these bloggers to go to a Sexual Assault crisis center and tell them that fictional SW character ships are equal to incest victims trauma. Better yet, do something to support those centers, instead of screaming into the void.
Don't like being called out? Tough shit. Reader/Clone is fetishizing. OC/Clone is fetishizing. Spreading slander makes you a piece of shit. No one believes you anyway.
Let people enjoy the fandom how they want.

Okay, first of all, I 100% agree that The Bad Batch has a serious whitewashing problem, and it should be addressed. However, I've seen a lot of complaints specifically relating to Omega and, again, I'm not saying those complaints aren't valid, but I do think a lot of them are based on the false assumption that she's a Jango clone.
Because, guys? For real?
She clearly is not:
Tumblr media
She looks nothing like the baby clones from the Youth Brigade!!! Literally, like, the only similarity is their eye color! Otherwise, their eyes are shaped differently, their facial structure is different, their noses, their lips, their eyebrows - none of it matches!
Yes, Omega is a female, but human sexual dimorphism is ridiculously small you guys - biological sex does not change that much about a person's appearance.
And before anyone says anything about style differences between The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, look at this screenshot from episode 1:
Tumblr media
What's that in the corner there?
Tumblr media
Oh look! It's a baby clone, looking the same as they did in Clone Wars and, again, nothing like Omega
Like, yes, I do think Omega's character shouldn't be white (and that the clones' skintone should actually match that of Temuera Morrison, the guy who played Jango), but that's because people of color are wildly unrepresented in media and imo they should have modeled her more after Michelle Ang, who voices her - not because she's Jango's clone. Because as it stands, I really, really doubt she is
(And if she is then for real whoever did her design fucked up immensely like come on, she barely even looks like she could be related to the baby clones)
