#she told me I should’ve learned that from her because I bomb every time we talk

Hey, really liked your analysis of Hinata. I feel almost the same way about her. Even though generally I dislike female characters who are naturally meek, subservient and pointless with no character arc in any type of media, what made me absolutely hate her character was how she treated Neji. If Kishi wanted to show her arc being developed organically, instead of proposing to Naruto that removes her stuttering and gives her new found confidence (because girls only get confident when proposing to guys 🙄), Kishi could have shown her talking to Neji after he literally told his bitter story on the chuunin exam grounds in front of everyone. She is shown like she is sympathetic but didn't do anything about it. She didn't even talk to him after he was hospitalized. She knew exactly why he was the way he was, and yet she fights him as if it was his fault. She, an heir of the clan, could have asked her father to support Neji, she had some clout. But nope. In fact, it was Neji who apologizes to her in a way, he is the one who trains her and help create a new jutsu for her. What did she ever do for him exactly? And Neji didn't have to help her. She was in the best position to help and understand Neji but what did she do? A lot of fans like her character because she is reserved but kind and sympathetic. She is reserved but a coward. She was not kind towards Neji. He died for her when he didn't deserve to, he had dreams and goals that were much bigger than Hinata's entire existence. She couldn't even see her own cousin's pain and she claims to understand Naruto?? Really??
Even Kishi said she was a pitiful character who only watches from a distance. He deliberately made her that way, no goal, no backbone and no lines. And I think she sucks the most after Danzo.
WoooW!!!! Thanks for the ask, Anon.
[[Hinata and Sakura fans!!!! Please stay away and don't interact. I fucking tagged them properly]].
Even though generally I dislike female characters who are naturally meek, subservient and pointless with no character arc in any type of media, what made me absolutely hate her character was how she treated Neji.
We definitely share the same thoughts on this one, Anon.
I am really tired on most of the media for their poor treatment of female characters.
The last time I was amused by a female character was from 'Game of Thrones', I loved Cersei Lannister, who is an absolute biashhh and Sansa Stark, started out as an annoying rose tinted princess but ended up winning everyone's heart. Both are non-combative, soft spoken and somewhat powerless women in a world dominated by men. But they just didn't let the inconveniences stop them and instead they learned how to fuck that world back and take control. Both are similar and yet very different.
After seeing, such well-developed characters..... For me girls in Naruto series, is blehhhhh..... Nothing to get inspired from them. And I knew it by episode 3 itself. I have no idea how can girls, in real life, treat Sakura as some feminist icon, which makes my skin crawl for number of reasons. If you point her mistakes out in any discussions, they will pull the misogynist card to your face. When in reality, I am also a girl and my world views are entirely different from Sakura or Hinata. There is no way a 12 year old girl would want to look at the Duck of another boy.
And the problem is, They form the majority, I mean people who can connect with Sakura or Hinata. So, as long as girls like them exists, we really should suffer from these crap portrayal I guess.
That's why I advise people that If you want to see a good woman character, Narutoverse is not the place.
Having said that, I find Temari, Konan, Tsunade were better (I mean inside the Narutoverse). Though their motivations or reason to achieve a goal revolve around their men, I find their attitude relieving. Unlike Sakura or Hinata, they don't wet themselves on the sight of the men they love.
What irritates me was, Kishimoto could've easily put a character like Temari or TenTen or Tsunade into Team 7. It would've made my viewing experience a lot better. If he doesn't want the strong girls to take over the attention from his boys, then he should've introduced a meek character like Rin Nohara. She is silent and cute but atleast she was willing to die for the Village and never wetted herself over Kakashi, though she loved him. And she treated Obito like her best friend. But he deliberately made Sakura hateful and he never stopped.
Sakura and Hinata were the lowest of the low, compared to any other side characters. And, in the end, they got the main Character's Ducks without actively doing anything. For me this tells me three things
He was using these girls as a shield to close the hetero normative mouths while in reality hiding those boys true feelings under that shield.
He really hated these kind of girls and constantly showing his hatred on them at every given chance and never redeemed them back.
He knew the target audience’ mindset and he simply caters them by giving them what they need and at the same time writing the important arcs according to his wish.
I think, it’s the combination of all three.
Just to give you an example.
There is this delusional SS shipper Who justifies Sasuke was acting Tsundere throughout the war arc. I mean, come on!!!!
I came across this post because, the Original Poster was an idiot who comes into the anti SS tag and reblogged my content and saying I was wrong... So, I don’t mind sharing that person’s content.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I don’t know where this delusion comes from... It's truly pathetic.
There are millions of idiots who believe in this kind of shit and Kishi is deliberately feeding them with bits and crumbs while making his boys go out and save the world.
These delusional mindset tells us they don’t give a single shit about the story as a whole. They watch it purely for the pretty faces and getting high over them. In this case, Sasuke.
It’s as clear as day that Sasuke didn’t care about anyone other than Naruto when fighting the war. You don’t have to be a shipper but even a non-shipper can point this out. I mean Sasuke wouldn’t have saved Jugo either, if he didn’t come to Sasuke and advice him. Do you think Sasuke would’ve tried to look for Jugo and saved him at all cost???? It’s just that he came to Sasuke and he helps him back. But Sasuke would’ve saved Naruto from the bomb blast even if he was standing a mile away.
So, if these delusions reflects the mindset of the majority of the women audience, then the creator will never try to give anything better but instead give us some low-life characters like Sakura and Hinata.
So, Anon, your expectation for Hinata’s character could’ve been developed much better is just a wishful thinking. Because, Hinata is a character for these kind of people and not for us. And the author deliberately did it.
Really??
For me, this also irked me a lot.
Hinata could’ve tried to talk to Neji about his problems even when he was a child. But she was simply playing innocent when in reality, she is just a coward. Even after the Chunin Exams, there was no apologies from her side, like you said. Because she is from the Main Branch. That hierarchy never changed. If she had the gall, she could’ve easily broken that hierarchy by saying, ‘I want Neji Nii-San to take over our Clan, He is the best candidate for this and I can gladly help him with all my efforts’.  A single line and just 2 or 3 panels, it all takes.
For me killing Neji is where Kishi asking us silently,
Do you really want these pair to happen despite having a blood stain of another character???
Most people said, ‘Yes!!!’, because they don’t give two shits about Neji. As long as Hinata gets Naruto, the main character’s Duck, that’s all there is to it. It doesn’t matter who dies, who lives.
That's why Kishi is shitting on them by making her as a non-existent woman in the Boruto Manga.
Even in real life, there are many hopeless foolish little girls who would do anything for the man she loves. I've seen them and I always stay 2 miles away from them. I mean, they even ditch their own friends and spends her entire time with him and when he dumps her later, she will come back to her friends for consolation. I think Sansa Stark is the best example for this. She started out much similar to Sakura and Hinata, believing in Princes and shit, she even naively betrayed her father for the man she had crush on. But the author made her to learn her lesson in a much painful way and later she came out as a Queen who no longer needed any man at the end. I think, this is called Development.
At the end of the day, Romance and Sex is all that matters. The author knew it. So, he is feeding these girls with some low quality cookies and they are very glad to take and eat it.

18th of April
alternative title: happy birthday badass bitch
for my dear friend emily @travellvogue
Tumblr media
“Working on your birthday shouldn’t be allowed,” you thought to yourself as you stepped inside the house, where you had longed to be all day, exhausted from a full work day. Your birthday started off amazing – with breakfast in bed prepared by your lovely boyfriend, a dozen presents that were way too expensive for your liking though you loved them a lot, and several bouquets of the prettiest flowers from that florist down the street decorating every room in the house. “Only the best for my favourite girl,” Trent had said with a smug smile, having really outdone himself for your birthday this year and he was proud. Even though he knew you’d be happy with some lush bath bombs or some books (which were of course included in the presents as well) he couldn’t stop himself completely spoiling you on your special day.
After that great start to your day you had reluctantly gotten dressed in your work outfit, hopped in your car after a goodbye kiss from Trent and drove to your work for a full day of phone calls and meetings. Now that you were finally home, you couldn’t wait to spend the final hours of your birthday with your man.
“There she is!” Trent smiled at you, coming from the living room to greet you in the hall. “How was your day baby?” he asked, pressing a kiss to your lips and gently brushing one of his hands through your long hair. “Tiring. I missed you,” you mumbled, leaning closer again for another kiss, and another.
“Mmm I missed you too,” Trent smiled against your lips. “I told you, you should’ve taken the day off,” he added, quite disappointed he didn’t get to spend the entire day with you, but it was alright – his plans for tonight would make up for it. “I definitely will next year,” you giggled, definitely having learned from this mistake, knowing you would have enjoyed your birthday much more if you could have spent it at home with him instead of having to smile at everyone who wished you a happy birthday at work – you could have done without all the birthday attention. Besides, you had discovered that planning other people’s birthdays on your own birthday wasn’t exactly ideal either, seeing all the great plans you were putting on paper and in moodboards for strangers while you spent your day at the office.
“Well madam, to show you what you’ve missed all day, I have prepared something for you,” Trent smirked, making you raise your eyebrows at him. “Oh? And what is this something that you have prepared?” you asked, the night already starting to look promising. “That’s a surprise, you’ll see in a few minutes,” he winked. Of course it was. “I hate surprises, you know that,” you rolled your eyes, but you couldn’t help the small smile appearing on your lips.
“Trust me?” Trent asked and came up behind you, covering your eyes with his hands after you nodded. He led you through the house, making sure you wouldn’t trip or bump into anything, until you could feel a breeze on your face, the sliding doors leading to the garden being pushed open. “Mind your step here,” Trent said as you stepped outside, letting you go a little farther to the place he had prepared everything.
“3,2,1… Tadaaa,” Trent removed his hands from your eyes so you could see, a small table in front of you with food that looked delicious, table decorated with flowers and even the plates were all set in a fancy way he had seen you do on special occasions like Christmas and other family dinners. As you looked around the garden you noticed how pretty it looked, fairy lights decorating the trees, some lanterns hanging around the area as well, and there were even some white and pink balloons floating in the air that said “Happy birthday Emily”, the strings attached to the railing of the steps that lead up to a raised terrace in the back of the garden. The fire pit was on for some extra warmth since evenings in April were not quite warm enough yet to stay out for too long, though since the sun was only just starting to set you could still feel the warmth of the sunlight on your face.
“Did you do all this?” you asked Trent with a smile, turning around to see a proud grin covering his face. “Yes. Well… I have to admit, mum helped me out a lot, especially with the food,” he chuckled a bit, knowing that if he would have done the cooking all by himself it would probably be a takeout, but he wanted you to have the best homemade food possible and his mum happened to be a real chef, your favourite meal being one of her specialties.
“I love it, thank you,” you pressed another kiss to Trent’s plump lips before taking a seat at the table, Trent serving you your food before sitting down in front of you. “Bon appetit,” he winked at you and took a forkful of carbonara in his mouth. You ate in a comfortable silence, talking about your day a bit but you didn’t want to talk about work too much while you were enjoying your birthday dinner. Instead, you listened to Trent telling you all about how he and Di spent their day preparing for your birthday, cooking and decorating.
“I know it’s getting a bit chilly out now,” Trent said after you had finished your meals, “but I feel like only now the sun is setting you’ll really be able to appreciate what I did with all the lights.” You laughed a bit, but nodded your head, agreeing that you couldn’t go inside now dusk was finally setting in and the lights lit up the garden beautifully. You couldn’t let all his hard work go underappreciated.
“The fire should keep us warm, and I’ve got some blankets so we can cuddle.” You followed Trent to where he had set up some blankets and pillows, happily sitting down in front of him with your back leaning against his chest, his arms wrapped around you to both keep you warm and pull you as close as possible to him.
“I love you so much,” he whispered after a few minutes, both of you looking up at the stars as if you could try and find constellations, though you never really managed to. “I love you too,” you smiled, turning your head to give Trent a kiss before letting your eyes go over the stars in the sky again, more of them appearing the darker it got.
“I’ve got one more present for you,” Trent broke the silence again after a while. “Trent! You’ve spoilt me enough!” Trent laughed, having expected this reaction from you since he had already given you a bunch of presents before, but this last one was perfect to give to you right now.
“I promise it’s not something expensive or fancy.”
He stood up to go inside and get you your present. A shiver ran over your back from the loss of warmth, the cool air getting to you now you no longer had Trent’s body heat keeping you warm. Trent quickly returned with a gift bag in his hand, thin paper on top to cover up what was inside.
“You can look,” Trent smiled and sat down behind you again, the warmth radiating off him already protecting you from the chilly air better than the fire could. You reached your hand into the bag, your fingers touching soft fabric. A grey sweater was revealed when you pulled out your present, the material being so soft you instantly wanted to wear it and feel it on your skin. You held it up in front of you, the size definitely way too big for your body, and the sweater was just grey other than something small embroidered at the bottom of the sleeves.
“You know how you always steal my hoodies? I’m about to have none left since they’re all on your side of the closet, so that’s why I bought you this. It’s in my size, so it fits you the same as mine fit you. And my initial is on the sleeve so you can always think of me when you wear it,” Trent pointed out the small black T you noticed earlier.
“I’ve even put my cologne all over it already so it smells like me,” he winked, making you giggle a little, knowing one of the reasons you always wore his shirts was because they smell like him.
“Thank you, I really like it,” you smiled, pulling yourself out of Trent’s embrace a little so you could pull the sweater over your head, the soft fabric feeling so comfortable, and the scent of your boyfriend’s cologne making it even better.
“Thought it was perfect to give you this now so we can stay out here a liiittle longer,” Trent said and wrapped his arms around you once again, not ready to go back inside yet as he was enjoying spending time in the garden with you a lot. The doggies, that had been sleeping in the living room most the time, eventually came out for a cuddle as well, a bit afraid of the fire at first but they enjoyed being all close to you and wrapped up in blankets with you, happily continuing their nap outside.
You spent your night in such a simple way – dinner, cuddles, kisses, and just Trent’s company – but it was all you ever needed. You didn’t need a big birthday party or many visitors, you just needed Trent to make your birthday a memorable one. Even going to work earlier in the day couldn’t ruin it for you, and the idea of your and Trent’s families visiting later in the week was something to look forward to, but in that moment, cuddling by the fire with your little family, you felt happiest and more content than ever.

So I really thought Jamack and Boom Boom and co. were gonna be like: “JFC getting caged up and prodded and the needles and Emilia were awful”
And Hugo/Scarlemagne would overhear and was gonna be like, flat and bitter: “Oh wow, never heard that before.”
And Jamack and Boom Boom and the captured co. would just suddenly go “oh” and fully realize key parts of Hugo/Scarlemagne’s backstory and have a way better understanding of where the hell he was coming from, and feel more sympathy for him and bond with him and get him to talk more about what he went through and help him process it better, and be willing to help him. And Jamack and co. are like super horrified that Hugo/Scarlemagne endured what they went through way longer and endured it since he was born, as a child, that was his childhood; and they would be like, “ohwow no wonder you got so messed up.” It was bad enough for them, and they’re all adults (maybe K-Pop narwhal is a teen?); they can’t fathom enduring it as a child, and from since you were born. They’re super horrified Hugo went through what they just experienced but no one ever came for him, no one ever saved him like they got saved. It would particularly eat at Jamack because he kept the others’ spirits up by telling them that Kipo would come for them, and she did--but no one came for Hugo. And they would be even more horrified that Hugo went through what they suffered through all alone, he had zero other fellow mute lab subjects to even lean on for some support. Jamack and Boom Boom and co. would know it would’ve been worse if they didn’t have each other and had been experimented on in isolation.
And while Hugo/Scarl would be initially kinda overwhelmed by Boom Boom’s new fear of needles because it’s Hitting Very Close to Home, he becomes very sympathetic to them because it Hits Very Close to Home and he’s terrified of needles too, he gets it, so he tries to help Boom Boom, and Boom Boom tries to help him, and they both help each other.
Imagine one side of mutes being like uncomfortable with Hugo/Scarlemagne and wanting his apology and wanting him to make up for what he did, and another side of mutes with Jamack and Boom Boom and co. being like “he had every reason to freak out” and being more positively supportive of Hugo/Scarlemagne and trying to directly help him with his trauma over being Emilia/DNA Burrow’s lab experiment, and they’re like the first ones to ever do that for him.
Imagine a callback to Hugo/Scarlemagne’s public apology with Jamack like cornering Zane. (Thanks to @lemonadesoda for some inspiration on this.)
Jamack: Hey, if you’re sticking around, go the f*ck to the great hall place thing and apologize to Hugo for helping Emilia experiment on him.
Zane: ...Um, I was only following orders--
Jamack: GO APOLOGIZE.
More under the cut:
And later just like:
Jamack: Wait, Zane, shut up, before you say anything else-- *passes Hugo/Scarlemagne a plate of pancakes and fruit*
Hugo/Scarlemagne: Jamack, I’m actively having a stupid panic attack over being in the same room as Zane, I have zero appetite, you do realize I only ever saw him when Emilia was around or for some other horrible thing like sticking needles into me or when they were harvesting my pheromones, he’s not even as worse as Emilia and I’m still stupidly freaking out--
Jamack: It’s not for eating, it’s for throwing. The others threw junk at you before, you should get to do the same with Zane too.
Hugo/Scarlemagne: *is overcome with emotion and just drops the plate and hugs Jamack*
Jamack: *is keenly reminded of Kipo and it really hits him that Hugo and Kipo are siblings, and he awkwardly hugs back because he’s doing better but still unused to stuff like this and didn’t expect Hugo/Scarl to break down like this* O-okay how about Boom Boom and the others throw food at Zane for you, would that be okay--?
Hugo/Scarlemagne: That’sfinethankyousomuch.
Jamack: You bet. You guys ready?
Zane: What the f-- *gets covered in pancakes and such after Boom Boom and co. start enthusiastically and angrily throwing food at him*
Jamack: Okay Zane, go ahead. Apologize to Hugo now.
Omfg imagine Jamack and co. trying that with Lio and Song.
Jamack: Hey Song, happy for you and Kipo--well, mostly Kipo--but have you talked to your son since you got all un-megafied? You know, after he tried helping you communicate with the others andthat’sbecauseyouturnedyourselfintoamegabutthat’sawholeotherdiscussion.
Song: ...Not yet, it’s been a lot right now, things have been happening so fast--
Jamack: Haha okay so I’ve learned by now that’s not a phrase you should ever use with Hugo again, so don’t. C’mon, you need to apologize to him.
Kipo: Um, Jamack--
Jamack: It’s fine, burrow girl. You had Hugo apologize to the others, but he needs some apologies too.
Kipo: But Mom--
Jamack: And your dad.
Kipo: Well, Dad apologized already...kinda....
Jamack: Well Hugo’s apologized, and he’s kept apologizing, and he keeps actively doing something to make up for what he did, it’s been a process for him. Your dad could stand to do a little more too as an ongoing process.
Kipo: But why Mom--
Jamack: Look, Kipo, your parents meant well...I guess...but they still experimented on Hugo before. Like even after Hugo’s apologies and him trying to be better, the others still get to be somewhat bothered by what he did before. It’s kinda the same thing--Hugo can still be upset with your parents experimenting on him even if they’ve changed orsothey’vesaid.
Kipo: When you put it that way....
Jamack: And if I’m understanding this right--sorry burrow girl, but your family history’s just screwed up on multiple levels--your parents could’ve tried immediately escaping with Hugo right after the formula mutated him, right? Like Emilia didn’t suspect a thing. They had just realized they couldn’t continue with the “regress mutes” project. But they stayed to try to find another way for humans to live on the surface--as opposed to just going up there and actually trying and talking to us like you did--and that led to them just mutating you too, right? And they kept Hugo confined and told him to be quiet and that must’ve screwed with his mind, even if they meant well. But again, maybe that could’ve been avoided if they had left with him as soon as they decided they were done with trying to revert mutes.... Anyway after everything, they never got him out of the shitty situation that they were complicit in, for all their promises and “epiphanies.” They never made up for what they did to Hugo.
Kipo: ...I’ll get Dad.
Jamack: Thanks Kipo, that’d be great, I’ve been meaning to get ahold of him too--hey, Lio, you still haven’t visited Hugo at all, have you?
Lio: ...No....
Jamack: And we had a few slow months of just searching for Emilia and IdunnowhywehadtwomegamutesdoityouthinkthatwouldmakeiteasyforEmiliatoseethemcomingandgivehertimetorunbutthat’sagainanotherdiscussion so you could’ve--you know--ha ha, I wouldn’t say things were happening too fast that time, and you were the one to save him after all. Like, that must’ve been so confusing for him; you finally saved him, but then you just don’t see him for months afterward and kinda just leave him in a cage again--
Ahhh Later Later
Jamack: Hey so Hugo’s recovering but he’s well enough to take some visitors now, so Greta, come here, we’re gonna throw some pancakes and junk at you in front of Hugo--might cheer him up a little--and then you’re gonna apologize to him for helping Emilia with--
Greta: I like pancakes!
Jamack: Boom Boom, give the pancakes to Troy and Benson, we’re just gonna use apples this time.
And later later later
Jamack: Kipo, please tell me you didn’t get Emilia too.
Kipo: Fun-Gus took her...pretty sure she’s not gonna last long...either Fun-Gus is gonna suffocate her by accident or something or she’s gonna...off herself somehow, I don’t think she’d want to handle Fun-Gus for long...
Jamack: Ohthankgods Boom Boom and the gang were just gonna throw nectar bombs at her and be done with it if it came to that.
Just Jamack and Boom Boom and Hugo/Scarlemagne and the others should’ve bonded and become the “Humans Experimented on Us and It Sucked” support group, and most of them should’ve come together to help the guy most harmed by Emilia and also become the “Hugo/Scarlemagne Defense Squad.”
And of course Hugo/Scarl should’ve been saved in every way.

MacDesi is not it for me.
This is a leaked photo of what happens in 5x12 and I am freaking angry. It’s a photo without content. So we still have hope, I think.
I just want to address the whole MacDesi situation. I have no hate towards any actor, actress, character, and/or MacDesi fans. I just feel the need to talk about the reason I strongly disagree with this ship.
Relationships
Trust
I hate how this ship lacks trust which is one of Mac’s biggest beloved value. Mac has always been dealing with trust among his piers. I get that it’s normal to have doubts but when you compare it to all his other relationships, even Nikki. He takes trust seriously. He trusted Nikki even after everything. He saw the bad and still trusted her as a romantic partner. That right there shows that even at the darkest moment, his feelings for Nikki were pure. So why didn’t Desi do the same? Yes she was scared but you still got to have some trust to your partner and stick by them. When it goes tough you trust them and stay with them. Not try to bomb them.
Communication
I have a lot of things to say about this couple. There is legit no communication with them. They don’t work out their problems. They just “start from scratch”. I had a best friend and we did the exact same thing. We ignored our fights and looked at the positive things. Look at us now, we don’t even talk to each other anymore. How is their relationship suppose to develop if they don’t work out their problems?
Another thing that bugs me is that Desi has never apologized to Mac for not trusting him. Instead she got angry that he left and save the world. Even if she did betrayed him (slightly forgivable), she should have said that she was wrong and told him that she was proud for standing up and doing was right or something like that. Is it really hard to admit that she was wrong?
So what is up with Mac? Shouldn’t he be angry that his girlfriend didn’t even hesitate to drop a bomb on them? Shouldn’t be angry that it wasn’t the love of his life that didn’t trust him? I would be pissed if my boyfriend would do that. It make me feel how little they know about me and how he barely cares for me. Seriously, it doesn’t matter how angry and hurt she was at her traitorous boyfriend, she should have at least hesitated or take it back.
Normality
When Riley, Mac, Desi and whats his name went on a double date, Mac and desi knew that they weren’t a normal couple. And that ok. Not every couple has to have the same routine or dynamic. But the thing is that couples should be able to spend time together just enjoying each other’s company (not including sexual activities). Mac and Desi have only been able to work together when their a job and it’s good that they are a great team. But have they ever really just you know? Talk or eat and enjoyed it? Cause if not then it is really just the rush and the convenience of their jobs. They are amazing people and they deserve to be with someone who makes them happy even when they grow old and retire.
Feelings
There are feeling there but why does it feel like one of those crush types of love? It’s like having those high school crushes that you only like cause he’s cute. It’s there but it’s not solid. They don’t have to be one of those epic lovey dove couples. They just have to show that they protect them not because they are teammates and are heroes but because them dying is like a bullet to the chest.
Plot holes
There are so many plot holes in their relationship. For example, the whole “you are my guide back home” is absolutely BS. Did I miss something? From what I remember the compass that she gave was never brought up. If it really was Desi then they should have gotten a shot where he strokes the compass while he was in Codex’s headquarters. They should’ve also not taken the scene where Mac says “You just need that one person” because that defeats the whole purpose. Another is that Desi told Mac that she knew him so well. Like girl, weren’t you the first to declared Mac as compromised? Another huge thing is that Mac completely forgot about the whole being be able to be together and tolerate each other when they are in an operation made me stupid for a minute. Are you not even going to address or take proper notes as to why the relationship didn’t work when you got fired? And the “I never stopped trusting you”?
The proposal
I hated how Mac wanted to propose to Desi because he wanted to work things out for them. Isn’t that the same thing as “let’s have a baby so that our marriage will work” ? Relationship don’t work like that. It’s like you are trapping her or better yet giving yourself and her a reason to want to work the relationship. That’s not love, that’s just loneliness. A real relationship is when you want to work it out because you love/like that person.
I hate how Mac was more worried about how to keep their relationship maintain happy rather than just being happy that they are finally in good place. It just shows that Mac is either traumatized or he really doesn’t want to be alone.
Desi not being happy about the proposal doesn’t mean that she doesn’t like Mac. It could mean that she is not ready but the thing is though, she didn’t tell Mac maybe in the future. Does that mean that she doesn’t think they can make it through the long run? (This is just a thought.)
The next episodes
Hopes
I hope that they both realize how terrible they are being as couple. It’s either learn to work it out or understand that there is something missing.
I hope they address Desi almost bombing Mac and Riley, Mac’s feelings for Riley, Desi being Mac’s compass home.
Note
Note that I am not solely writing this because I am a MacRiley fan. I am writing this because I really think that this relationship is not realistic and is not healthy to both characters. I really did like them because duh, the nerd and the badass one? It’s an opposite attract and a hate to love relationship. But what I value more than each character’s storyline is their compatibility together and dynamic. Relationships should be born and continued because of genuine feelings and not familiarity and a safety net. It just makes me feel like they were not the option that they really wanted but they were the option that was the most available.
No hate to other people’s opinions. If you disagree with me then it’s ok. Your ship, your choice.

You walked into the little donut shop on your way to meet your best friend Vanya. She loved this place as a kid and you wanted to see her get that happy nostalgic smile when she thinks of all the nights she spent here as a kid. They were some of her better memories. You never met any of her family but she told you that they were a rowdy bunch. And you believed her.
You sat at the counter with a copy of Les Fleurs du mal. Poetry. It was something that you could pick up and read when you needed to pass the time and as you waited for your very simple order of two glazed donuts, a coffee, and a black tea, it kept your mind from drifting. For some reason there was this dark haired kid at the other end of the counter staring at you, breaking your focus.
"French poetry?" The boy finally asked. "Is it in the original language or are you one of those girls who likes to look foreign and smart? Because you don't look like one of those girls trying to be smart. You look like you are smart."
You sigh though your nose and sit straighter on your stool. "I learned French before I learned English so if you are smart you'd assume it's in French." You go to pick up the book again.
"That only answered one of my questions sweetheart." He smirks and you almost hit him.
"Listen I don't know who you think you are or why my intelligence is any of your business but I'd appreciate if you just let me get my order and leave before you embarrass yourself or worse me." You sass as a response.
"Oh? Feisty are we?" He says, leaning over the spot between the two of you. He's studying you. You know this. So you study him. "What instrument?" He asks, pointing at the small case behind you.
This completely catches you off guard but you try your best to recover quickly. "What?"
"What instrument do you play?" He repeats. "Violin correct? My sister plays."
"Actually cello but my friend talked me into trying the violin. Speaking of her, I should go." You say side-eyeing the bag the lady sets in front of you.
"Wait!" The boy jumps up and grabs your hand, you pull your hand from him and pick up the violin case.
You look at him expectantly.
"Go on a date with me." He half-plead.
"No. I-I can't. I'd like to but I'm already late. Maybe another time." You smile.
As quickly as you can manage you rush out of the shop and finish your journey to your friends apartment. You walk up the stairs to the second floor and knock twice. That's all it took for Vanya to appear and let you in.
"Hey I'm sorry about this but I have to go to the academy today. We'll have to save your violin lesson for another day." Vanya blurts.
"Vanya it's okay!" You chirped, "How about we eat first then head over? I could drive?"
"You sure? My family might have questions you don't want to answer." She rubs her sleeves together. Her cardigan was a size too big. It was probably one of yours.
"Yes, Vanya, you could use some back up with them. I'm perfect for that!" You beam.
"What are you going to do? Turn invisible?" She laughs as she pulls out her donut.
"Well," You smile, "I can also read minds, I could throw something at them if they're mean to you." You float your cup towards you as a demonstration.
"Remind me again how you got here?" She grumbled.
"You mean being 19 and having powers like you?" Vanya nods, though a mouthful of her breakfast. "All I remember is a white room. There was this other girl but I guess they liked her more. Instead of killing me when I was seven they gave me to an adoption agency in 2008. That's really all I remember." You glance at Vanya as she thinks.
"I should've told you this sooner but your a year and a half younger then one of my brothers." She smiles mischievously.
"I though you hated all of your brothers?" You question.
"Yeah, I do, but this one is not half bad. Little snarky but I know you and I know him and you could put him in his place!" Vanya cheers as she stands to get ready.
"Vanya I tell you this every time. I don't date people." You say, leaning on the door frame.
"Well you're in luck (Y/n)! Neither does he!!" She teased.
"Vanya you're my best friend and you know I'd do anything for you but I am not going out with your brother." You say, grabbing your keys and heading out the door with Vanya on your heals.
"We'll see." She giggles to herself.
At the grand entrance of the Academy, you stood taking the expensive antique furniture thinking of how Vanya turned out the way she did.
"Who invited the bomb?" Her bulkier brother questioned.
"I did." Her sister says. "Vanya!" She hugs Vanya and you stand awkwardly behind her, waiting to be introduced.
"Oh! Right... Allison this is my friend, (Y/n). We were in the middle of a practice when you called." Vanya explains.
"Well it is very nice to meet you (Y/n). I'm Allison. The rude one is Luther. The high one in my skirt is Klaus. Diego is in all black and..." She trails off in though.
"And I am Five." The boy from the donut shop smirks when you turn to face him. You assumed you masked your shock poorly.
"You. The boy from..." You point.
"Yeah it's so nice to see you again too Sweetheart." He uncrossed his arms and walked to the living room.
You followed behind Vanya and Allison.
You sat in between Vanya and Klaus, half listening to the "family meeting." It was a lot of Five talking and the rest giving input. Something about alternate timelines. It wasn't until Diego spoke that you sat up and paid more attention.
"Well Vanya brought her into this!" He provoked, "She doesn't even have powers!"
You look at Vanya, who just looks away as she rubs her neck. "Actually..." She trails off.
"Actually what?" Luther jumps in.
You stood up "Actually!" You pull a book off a shelf from across the room, startling everyone.
Five smirks as he nods at you, the rest are to embarrassed that you stood up to them.
"I can also read minds so if you could stop thinking of me as a burden I'd greatly appreciate it." You reveled.
"Okay so she's in!"Five concludes and with that the meeting disbands.
You find yourself looking at family portraits and notice that Vanya isn't in any of them.
"So French poetry?" A voice startles you and you turn invisible before you can stop it.
"Invisibility?" Five crosses his arms again.
"Sorry. I-you scared me. That one is a bit more of a reflex. And my head hurts from mind reading for the past two hours." You admit.
"How about we explore your powers a bit more over some coffee? For your headache?" Five offers.
You smile and look over his shoulder to see Vanya lurking in a corner, watching you interact with him.
"Um," You think, making eye contact with Vanya, who gives you a thumbs up. "Sure if it'll get you to stop staring at me." You whisper.

Okay, I’ve jotted down all of Ozpin’s Volume 8 lines so y’all can see for yourselves just how differently his dialogue is structured nowadays. (I think someone finally told him not every sentence requires an adverb and multiple clauses.) So yeah! Here’s a handy post with the lines:
Head’s up.
You’re not going to tell them?
And yet, it’s something I’m becoming increasingly concerned about.
You all have every right to be upset. Especially you, Oscar. I’m sorry I left you.
I understand. But even though it may not have felt like I was with you, I was never truly gone. You’re gaining control of my remaining magic, recollecting my longest-held memories. Which means… our two souls are still on the inevitable path to becoming one.
Neither do I.
We need to find a way to work together. Not just the two of us... All of us.
Oscar? Don’t panic. We’re going to be okay.
I’d like to express again, that this is my burden to bear. Not yours. His grudge is with me.
I understand, I do. But you’ve done so much already. The least I can do is give you a break and try to get us out of here.
Hm. Maybe you’ve taken one too many hits.
Maybe we should do the same.
We certainly are similar, you and I. Maybe we have been presented with an opportunity.
Oscar, please—
Hello, Hazel.
Why do you follow her?
I know. I know how you see me. But her? Look at what she does, how is she the answer? Why not stop her?
Someone has to try! Salem isn’t a force of nature because Salem can be fought! Unless she brings the relics together. If that happens…
You’ll only be helping her bring about the end! For all of you!
You’ve never wondered why she recruited you – you, specifically, to help her find the relics?
New world order. No. When Salem gets all four relics, there will be no world left at all. Don’t you get it? She’s been alive longer than you can comprehend. All she craves now is release. Death.
Oh, Hazel. Don’t you see that is why she came for you? Because she could make you believe that this is what you needed.
Yes! But Oscar? The people of Atlas, Remnant? You haven’t done what you’ve done for justice. You’ve done it for yourself. Because she pushed you to think it would help you. Well? Has it?
“So long as this world turns, you shall walk its face.” That was the curse cast upon her. But if Salem can divide humanity beyond repair, and bring all four relics back together, she believes that maybe, her curse will be broken. The gods will rule against us, and destroy Remnant, once and for all.
But, Oscar—?
I recognize that. ‘The Girl Who Fell Through the World?’
I’ve lived through my share of them. How are you holding up?
She wasn’t the same girl anymore.
I… think this plan to divide might have run its course. It’s time we start thinking about a way out. Not having our cane certainly limits the options, so...?
I don’t blame you. Honestly, I think you’re doing just fine on your own.
Thank you, Oscar.
I was recently… reminded of an old fairytale. A young girl flees the consequences of a choice. To a magical place. But, having never learned from her initial failure, she only succeeds in spreading it. I failed all of you. I should’ve trusted you with the truth. And should never have run the day you discovered it.
And I hope… it’s a risk you can take on me again.
The Staff of Creation...
The spirit in the Staff. Like Jinn. But, well, he’s a character. He can build you anything, but, only if you can explain to him how. Like any craftsman, he’ll need blueprints. Some sort of reference. It’ll help if we have real-world examples to show him.
There’s still James, and his bomb to consider.
The staff of creation... (flashback)
Oh dear. Ambrosius.
The end!

Can we get more background on Lori and also a reason why Adele left
Adele Samuels and Lorelei Figgs had known each other for the better part of a decade, not the type of best friends to be attached to the hip 24/7-- they mostly went about their lives after high school following different pathways that would ultimately lead them to communicate on a casual basis. The every second-day check-in, the occasional Snapchat, Facebook tag under a meme that had them both crying with laughter. It was casual, a strong connection that didn’t need constant validation or communication to understand Adele would always be in Lori’s corner and Lore is Adele’s.
That was until, well, until Lorelei started dated Jacob Marshall. A Character to say the least and Adele’s slightly estranged step-brother, from her Fathers second marriage. In Jacobs short 21 years on earth, he had racked up a pretty hefty tally in regards to misdemeanours and assault charges. Swearing he’d be a better man for Lorelei he enrolled in community college, straightened himself out a little more. Got a job that didn’t see him evading his taxes or being paid cash in hand for jobs that had him running from authority. Sometimes people do indeed change? Other times? It’s just a matter of time before the bomb explodes--you can’t change those who don’t truly want to change. Jacob Marshall was absolutely no exception to the eons-old rule. Adele knew that well before Lorelei ever sensed the change.
She should’ve known better than to get mixed up with the kid from school who got caught selling cocaine under the bleachers to the football team before their homecoming game. But Lorelei and Jacob always had that on again off again classic toxic frenemies relationship. He had a spell on her, someone Lorelei nor Adele could ever explain. They were entangled well before Adele’s dad married Jacobs mum down at the courthouse on 5th ave-- whatever was meant to be had already been put in place years ago. It’s just the fact Lorelei and Jacob couldn’t have been more different, more polar opposites if they tried. Jacobs had always been the hardass, the guy with the home job tattoos, the roid muscles he swore were all-natural. The crackjaw that swung left to right whenever he’d get on the gear with the boys. The law-breaking, gym junkie with a white card that allowed him to work construction and heavy machinery.
Lorelei? Well, she could’ve had it all. But settling for the only guy that had ever given her the time of day was all she ever knew how to do- especially when throughout highschool? He wouldn’t let another guy ever get close enough to say hello. It was always mental mind games. The suttle manipulation-- always with the gaslighting that had Lore feeling less than. She was smart, bright. But her lack of street smarts always got the better of her. Especially when it came to Jacobs. Fuck, it was always Jacob.
By the time Grayson had finished with his much need shit shower and shave routine, Lorelei was finishing up with Ethan in the podcast room. Taking in all he had to teach her and all she had to learn.
“And don’t even sweat it, if you forget I can just show you again, or Gray can-- whoever’s around.”
“Seems pretty straight forwards, it’s an amazing setup.” Lorelei sat on the chair Grayson would normally sit on for filming podcast videos-- feeling a little lightheaded. Nothing she couldn’t mask. Focusing on her breathing, Lorelei watched as Ethan powered down the monitor and flipped back to the cameras. “Pretty secure security system huh?”
“We’ve had a few incidences, can’t put a price on security.” Ethan shrugged. “If you want we’re just gonna be hanging out for the rest of the day, so you can stay and chill or go home, either way, its a pretty full day tomorrow, have some errands and shit to do so we’ll need you here from what? Maybe 10?”
“That’s fine, I can do that, do you want me to bring over breakfast for everyone? Coffee?” Lore asked with a soft smile, she was just happy to be needed. Happy to be living. Happy to be in the presence of people who valued her. It was nice. A welcomed change.
“Monty’s open at 11 so we’ll do burgers for lunch instead, you vegan?”
“Not exactly but I try--”
“It’s the thought that counts.” Ethan laughed as Lorelei followed him down the hall out to the kitchen. “So you staying?” she wanted to. Lorelei would’ve loved to have said yes, but she needed to sleep. Suddenly overwhelmed with exhaustion.
“Id love it, but I better get going, still have some stuff to do at home so I better--”
“I’ll walk you out” it was Grayson. His hair a sopping mess of dark locks that could’ve used a towel dry. The Grey sweats hanging low on his hips as he pulled over his hoodie-- the same Ethan and gifted Lorelei yesterday. Her favourite. Lorelei stared for a moment too long but ultimately nodded in shyness.
“Sounds good.” there was a short shared silence for a few minutes while Grayson walked slowly beside Lorelei back to her car. He wasn’t exactly sure what to say, how to act.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t here for the whole hiring process, kinda have a few things going on.” Grayson pressed his lips together as the pair approached Lore’s car. “Sometimes a bit of fresh air is all I need, but I’m here now and I’m excited to have you here, really, Adele, she uh-- she said good things about you.” Grayson was never a fan of lying, but he didn’t think this little white lie would hurt anyone. A victimless crime. He knew only what Ethan had told him Adele had said. Lorelei blushed. She could instantly feel the heat on her cheeks.
“She’s such an idiot but I love her, she’s done a lot for me, especially setting this u, couldn’t thank her enough, or you guys, even if I wanted to.” Lore was speaking from her heart, Grayson could already tell she was genuine. Not a lot of people were genuine in L.A anymore. “I better get going.”
“Let me take you out for lunch soon? I feel like you and Ethan hit it off really well, I just want the same kinda opportunity to get to know you, you have access to my bank account I feel like I should at least have your number?” Lorelei chuckled but nodded in response. Grayson had never been so straight forward-- he wanted to crawl inside himself. Someone, anyone had to stop him before it was too late. Because he wasn’t about to stop himself, no not this time. Not with Lorelei. Her name alone had him making sure his inhaler was on his presence 24/7 and he’d known her for all of an hour. Grayson realised at that moment as she asked his assistant to go grab lunch with him, not for him, with him-- that he was in fact pathetic on a new simp level only unlocked by the very few men who fall in love in three seconds flat.
“Oh yeah, sure lets us, gab lunch-- but I’m pretty sure my numbers on the fridge, I put it there on a pink sticky.”
“Cool, alright well, ill see you tomorrow, uh here--” Grayson opened Lorelei’s car door for her. She beamed a bright smile. No one had ever done that before. Not for her, she thought it was something that only happened in movies. Sitting down, she strapped herself as her window went down.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, have a good day Grayson.”
“I’ll text you.” Lorelei laughed as she reversed, shaking her head playfully as she drove off biting her lip. Wondering if she was in fact reading too much into such a small encounter with the younger Dolan. Grayson stood in the middle of the drive speechless with himself:
“I need another shower.”

An uninterrupted, speed limit obeying road trip from Cincinnati to Quantico would have taken me and Hotch about eight hours to complete. The team probably figured that was our plan, but we actually took up Rossi’s advice to take back roads, and to take our time. We chose the long route, which went South, through West Virginia, which added another hour to the “scheduled” trip time. But what should have been only a few hours’ drive quickly turned into a three day adventure. We split up the drive into three days of two to three hours of driving, then stopping in a city to take some time to ourselves. Hell, we even did a little site seeing, even though that wasn’t really our thing. It was just nice to slow down for a bit. With everything that had been going on recently, I liked spending hours stuck inside a car with him, holding his hand, kissing his knuckles, singing along to music that he didn’t know. I enjoyed being in his company because there was a good hour or so in New York where I thought that I would never get moments like these. Every second with him mattered more now. Every fleeting moment was appreciated tenfold. I would never forget that.
On the first day, Hotch and I made a stop in Huntington, West Virginia. We found a hotel to hole up in, and we spent the day just relaxing, sleeping, and eating. We discovered a cute diner around the corner from the place we were staying at, and we learned for ourselves that they had the best milkshakes we ever had. It was there that we called Haley and Jack to let them know that “a case was running a bit longer than anticipated”, and we wouldn’t be home as soon as we thought. Haley was understanding, and just asked that we would call whenever we were about to fly home. She still didn’t know that Hotch wasn’t in good shape, and that was probably for the best. We didn’t want to worry her and Jack. I was already worried to death about him, they didn’t need that pressure, too.
On the second day, we drove from Huntington to Roanoke, Virginia. We knew that the way we planned the trip, it was only going to last three days and two nights, but that was better than nothing. Granted, it was already more than we should’ve taken off, anyhow. We would have to get back to work and Jack sooner than later. Anything more than three days would’ve sent the whole team into disarray. If Rossi were having trouble keeping them from sending out a search party for us already, I couldn’t imagine what would happen after seventy-two hours of not hearing from us. Rossi wouldn’t be able to hold them back very long, and that was alright.
I didn’t let Hotch drive at all. He kept insisting that he wanted to switch off, to give me a break, but I still refused. His hearing wasn’t necessarily getting better, but it wasn’t getting worse anymore, either. If the music were too quiet, he couldn’t hear it. If I mumbled something under my breath, he couldn’t hear it. If his phone started ringing, he couldn’t hear it. He was trying. I could tell that he was spending all of his energy on getting better for me and on acting like everything was normal, but I knew him. I knew when something was wrong, and I knew when he was lying to me. That was why I couldn’t let him drive. It wasn’t safe. Besides, I needed him to just take a break. After the bombing and his surgery, his body was still trying to heal. If he were behind the wheel and needed to make a sudden, calculated move in the case of emergency, I couldn’t trust that he’d actually be able to do it. Therefore, he was forced to sit in the passenger’s seat at all times.
Driving wasn’t the only thing I babied him over. Since telling me the truth about his ears and what the doctors told him, he had shown me the medicine that he was meant to be taking. There were a couple of different pills from his surgery, one to help with his headaches, and there was a bonding agent ear drop bottle— which happened to actually be the most important thing. At first, he insisted that he could do it himself, but when I caught him struggling to get the drops in his ear before we went to bed in Huntington, I made the executive decision that I’d be keeping track of his medication and that he was actually taking it. Hotch was surprisingly squirmy when it came to the drops. When I tried to help him for the first time that night, he fought against me until I sat on his lap and told him to just hold my hips. It managed to calm him down long enough for me to squeeze the drops in and move onto sorting out his pills. He was a little stubborn— actually, very fucking stubborn about me babying him. But I had to keep telling him that this was what happens when he would refuse to take care of himself. He proved that he wasn’t willing to do it, so I was having to do it for him. I didn’t think he appreciated the fact that I was bossing him around when he was used to that being his job in our relationship. I kind of liked it, though.
When we stopped in Roanoke for the second night of our trip, we stopped to grab lunch at a pizza place just a few blocks away from our hotel. After getting our food, I got Hotch’s pills out and started sorting the ones he needed to take in the afternoon, especially the ones he needed to take with food. He reluctantly took them, popping them in his mouth and drowning them down his throat with a swig of iced tea. He wanted a soda, but I glared at him and told him, “Over my dead body”, and I ordered a tea for him instead. Like I said, babying. But it was also like I said, he did this to himself. If he just would’ve obeyed the doctor’s original orders, then I would have never known that something was wrong, and I therefore wouldn’t’ve gotten involved. But now I was worried twice as much as before, and now I was spending all of my time making sure that he was only going to get better, and that he wasn’t going to do anything dumb to put his health in jeopardy again. Drinking a soda wasn’t the end of the world, I knew that. But if he wanted one so damn much, he shouldn’t have lied to me. It was as simple as that.
At the hotel, Hotch and I showered to get rid of the disgusting feel that came with sitting in a car all day. Hotch was taller than me, I’d be the first one to admit that, but that didn’t stop me from trying to wash the back of his hair when he seemed to struggle with that simple task. It was hard to miss how he cringed every time he rose his arms above his head, and how he still had to limp because his right leg wasn’t healed. His arms, chest, and left leg were all working overtime to try to keep up with me and prove that nothing was wrong. Every time he tried to wash his own hair, he’d bring his soapy hands to the front, and he could manage to lather it on slightly before giving up and deciding to let the water just rinse it through the rest of his hair. It wasn’t exactly the most effective way to do it. When I noticed his trick, though, that was when I jumped onto my tip-toes and tried doing it for him. He held my waist in his wet hands to keep me steady while I stretched to run my soapy fingers through his hair. That was much better than whatever the hell it was he was trying to do. It also didn’t hurt that it seemed to relax him.
I kissed him under the water as we spun around to face me so that he could wash the soap out of his hair. “I love you,” I mumbled against his lips. He kissed me harder, ignoring how the soap was dripping down his face. He squinted to make sure it wouldn’t sting his eyes. I smiled and wiped his face with my hands, using the water to help me wash it all away. “There. That’s better.”
He opened his eyes before kissing my cheek. “I love you.”
I reached around him to turn off the water. “Better?” I asked.
Hotch nodded and opened the shower curtain to grab us a towel each. He stepped out first. After he had his towel wrapped around his waist, he held his hand out for me to help me out. When we were both out of the shower, towels tight around our bodies, we headed to the bedroom to get changed into comfortable clothes. Then, when we were done, we crawled onto the bed to lay down for a couple of hours.
Hotch was laying on his back to my right while reading a book that he had picked up at a store a couple of small towns back. I was right beside him, my head tucked under his left arm, my torso pressed against his side as I hugged him close. One of his hands was holding his book open, the other one was on the outside of my left thigh, slowly and lightly rubbing circles over the bare skin. It was meant to be an innocent and comforting touch— and originally it was— but the longer he did it, and the wider the circle got, the more I took notice of how it was anything but innocent. Maybe in his mind he figured it was nothing, but his hands were clearly wandering, and I wasn’t naive.
At first, I tried to just ignore it and stay still in order to not give him the satisfaction of earning a response from me, but when his fingers slid their way up to my hip bone, it sent a chill down my spine that made me shiver and whine quietly. His fingers slid back down to my thigh and continued to circle slowly. Every second that passed, I could feel my stomach twisting into knots and my clit was throbbing with need. I let out a quiet sigh into his side, trying my best to hide it from him. He halted his movements and asked me if something was wrong, but I shook my head insistently, so he continued.
My hand that was flung over his chest and resting on his other side started inching back onto his body. I slid it up to the collar of his shirt and fisted the fabric in my grip as he slid back up to my hip bone again. I whimpered again, but he didn’t stop. He spent a few more agonizingly long seconds on teasing my hip with his fingertips before he laid his entire palm against my thigh, squeezed gently, and pulled my left leg over his. My shorts rode up higher on my thighs and he held me in place like that for a minute.
“Your fingers are cold,” I croaked.
“Maybe you should warm them up for me,” he responded, though he was still focused on his book.
Hotch’s left hand released my thigh and slowly slid down between my legs. I hissed at the feeling of his freezing cold fingers making space for themselves between my warm, shaking thighs. He was so close to where I needed him most. I wondered if he knew that. I wondered to myself if he knew that I was already soaking my panties and I was on the verge of begging for him. Maybe he did, because he began kneading the inside of my right thigh carefully and I finally let out a quiet moan.
“Sir…” I gasped, hiding my face in his side again.
“Shh...” he cooed, “I’m trying to read.”
I whimpered again and tried to pull my left leg off of him, but he trapped my ankle between his calves so that I couldn’t escape. I sighed, knowing that this wasn’t going to be good for me in the long run. Hotch had me stuck in a position that wasn’t realistic for letting me move or giving him access to where I needed him most. He wanted me exactly like that because there were so many ways he could play with me that didn’t include touching me where it would feel the best. He had proven to himself and me that just touching my skin slowly and lightly was enough to set me on fire, and he wasn’t about to give that game up yet.
The hand I had fisted around the collar of his shirt carefully let go. As his hand continued to grope the inside of my right thigh, I moved my hand down his chest, feeling how he tensed at my touch, and I rested it just below his belly button. He stayed tense, but he still didn’t look away from his book. In fact, he used his thumb to flip to the next page rather than tear his hand away from between my thighs to do so. I thought of a thousand different curse words that I wanted to throw at him, but I kept it all to myself as I dared to use my hand to wander down his body further.
“I’m trying to focus,” he said to me. His breath hitched and his hand grabbed my thigh roughly as I ventured under the waistband of his pajamas and felt how hard he was. “Baby…” he mumbled, biting back a moan.
I tried to pull my leg away again, thinking that he had let his guard down enough to allow me to do so, but when I made my attempt, his calves only captured my ankle again and with more force. The moan he had been holding back left his throat as I took his length in my hand and slowly pumped twice. Without warning, he threw his book to the side carelessly and pulled his hand out from between my thighs and used it to pull my own hand off of his length. Holding my wrist, his legs let go of my ankle, and he pushed me onto my back as he shifted on top of me.
He held my wrist against the mattress, but he stared at me with passion rather than uncontrollable lust, unlike what I was so used to. His eyes looked between my eyes and my lips before he finally said what was on his mind, “Can we just…” He swallowed hard. “Can we go back to basics for a second?”
I searched his eyes for a moment to make sure that he was okay. I didn’t want to pressure him into anything, and I certainly didn’t want to push him when he was still physically and emotionally recovering from New York. If he wasn’t ready, then he wasn’t ready. I wasn’t about to make him do anything he didn’t want to. I wanted whatever he wanted. If that meant just going back to cuddling, I was fine with that. If he wanted to fuck me into the mattress until I couldn’t walk, I was fine with that, too. Whatever he wanted. Whatever he needed. I figured that I’d let him take the lead, so I nodded.
Hotch leaned down and kissed me gently, his hand releasing my wrist. Both of his hands were planted on either side of my shoulders now, his knees were resting between mine, and his lips were gently pressed against mine, no tongue yet. My hands went up to his face and I cupped his cheeks earnestly. His hips dipped down and he grinded desperately against me through both of our pants. I moaned into his mouth, finally giving him access to dominate the kiss with his tongue.
He was so hard, and I was so wet. I just needed him inside me… I bucked my hips up against his, a plea for more, and he listened. He balanced his weight on his knees and one hand as he brought the other between us and snaked his fingers to my shorts and panties. He pulled them down with one effortless tug. He smirked as he threw them to the floor. I bit my lip while looking up at him, my eyes following his as he leaned over me again.
“Aaron,” I moaned when his fingers found my clit.
“Manners still,” he begged while grinding his hips down.
“Yes, Sir,” I nodded, holding his face in my hands.
“I love you.”
I swallowed his words as he slid two fingers into me, and I moaned a string of curse words before he kissed me deeply. Every inch of me was on fire— more than before. Hotch hovered over me with his mouth on mine to silence my words, his fingers working in and out of me at an intricately slow pace. They curled as they pumped inside of me slowly again, and as a result, my back arched off the bed, my head falling against my pillow, my eyes screwed shut. I was so used to Hotch either going so painfully slow in order to tease me for hours on end or so fast that as he was racing to catch my orgasms one after the other, I could see stars. There usually wasn’t any in between, and that was fine because it was fun to see where my games with him would land me on the spectrum of punishments to rewards. But this…
My hips bucked again as his thumb pushed against my clit and started rubbing figure eights.
This was absolute bliss and euphoria. He wasn’t trying to tease and edge me or force multiple orgasms out of me. His pace, mixed with the way he would spread and curl his fingers while buried deep inside of me were all for the sake of telling me: “I love you more than the moon loves the stars you see behind your eyelids right now.” And I had never felt more breathless in my life as my orgasm began to approach.
Hotch’s fingers curled right into my g-spot, and once he found it, he didn’t stop going for it. My mouth was agape as the back of my head buried itself further into the pillow underneath, and I cursed and cursed like it was the only thing I knew how to do besides moaning. When his thumb changed page and direction on my clit, that was when I was a goner. Hotch sat all the way back on his heels so that he could use his other hand to hold my hips still as I cried out his name, clenched my walls around his fingers, and came as hard as ever.
He smirked to himself and his little victory as I continued to buck around wildly, despite his attempt to pin me. Next thing I knew, after I had the strength to tell him to wipe that grin off his face, Hotch shrugged and leaned down to replace his thumb on my clit with his tongue. I yelped, thrashing around in response to the sensitivity of my throbbing clit and his unrelenting fingers inside of me.
“I know you can handle it, baby girl,” he whispered before licking a long, slow stripe up from his fingers in my core to my aching clit.
I nodded eagerly. “Yes— Yes, Sir—” Another moan broke away from me just when he added another finger and he spread me open ever so slightly. It certainly didn’t feel like being as full as when his cock was inside of me— nowhere near that length and girth— but when he spread them apart in order to stretch me… Fuck… “Please, Sir.”
“Please what?”
“Please make me cum again for you, Sir.”
“Good girl,” he complimented.
In an instant, his lips wrapped around my clit, and he used a mixture of licking and gentle sucking to set me on fire again. God, I loved learning the U.S. State Capitals. By Denver, my fingers were tangled in Hotch’s hair in order to keep him where he was, a silent plea to make him keep going. And he didn’t stop. Tallahassee sent me over the edge for the second time that night, but he didn’t relent. The three fingers inside of me ignored how hard I was squeezing around them in order to keep rubbing against my g-spot. My orgasm had barely just ended, and I felt the desperate need to cum again; but I just wanted him. I wanted every inch of his cock inside of me. Nothing else. I could keep learning the State Capitals all day, but we had only just reached the end of Atlanta and I never needed him more.
“Sir,” I moaned, tugging on his hair lightly to gain his attention. “Fuck me. Please.”
Hotch looked up at me through his lashes, still halfway through Honolulu, and I felt a third orgasm approaching, the knot in my stomach tightening, and my thighs tried pressing together around his head. The ‘B’ in Boise was what did it for me.
“Hotch, please!” I cried out. “Please, baby… Just fuck me. Please.”
Hotch’s fingers stilled inside of me once he was sure that I had come down from my high, then they carefully slid out. I gasped at feeling so empty suddenly but caught my breath when he brought them to my open mouth. I sucked on all three of them, focusing on the task he had given me rather than the fact that he was trying to clean up the mess he made with his tongue, which would surely make me cum again if he just added a little more speed and pressure— which he wouldn’t… but he could… if he wanted to.
He pulled his fingers from my mouth after he finally sat up again. “Baby girl,” he cooed.
“I know. I’m sorry.” I softened my eyes. I knew that I wasn’t supposed to say his name, but it had slipped from me while I was nothing but puddy in his hands and unable to think about literally anything. If I could have, I wouldn’t have said anything to him at all, but my desperation for him had been so strong that I knew that saying his name was a sure way to catch his attention. “It won’t happen again.”
Hotch smiled and tucked some of my hair behind my ear with his dry hand. “You did so well, baby girl,” he complimented. “I’m not mad.” That was a relief. I watched him, my hips still grinding against the mattress with anticipation, while Hotch struggled to get out of his pants. Once they were around his ankles, though, he gave up, figuring that it was good enough since he was just desperate to be inside of me. “I love you,” he whispered while hovering over me.
After I leaned up slightly and grabbed his face in my hands, I whispered, “I love you, too.” And in an instant, I felt his tip circle my clit then slide down to my entrance. “I love you, I love you, I love you…” I kept going as he entered me with everything he had to offer.
He groaned roughly as he bottomed out inside of me. “Fuck, baby girl. How are you still so fucking tight?” He pulled his hips back, nearly pulling out of me entirely, then he slid back in. “God…” he buried his face in the crook of my neck.
There was a point in New York, when Morgan and I were still in the car after getting the call about the bombing and we weren’t sure if Hotch and Kate were involved yet, that I asked myself if I would ever know this feeling again. I was so terrified that I had lost him, and I wondered if I would ever feel the warmth and kindness of his kiss, or if I would ever get to feel at home in his arms, or if I would ever get to feel on cloud 9 with him buried to the hilt inside of me ever again. He was the only person I had ever met who mattered enough to me like that. And the fear of nearly losing him still hadn’t left me yet, but getting the chance to be trapped in his arms as he hugged me close while his hips did all the work and he kissed me as passionately as he could… that was all I could ask for. That was only the tip of the iceberg of what I was scared of losing when I thought I had lost him forever, but I had him, and I wasn’t about to let him go ever again.
Crying during sex was less than ideal normally, but there was something about that evening. Between us, we usually spent our time in the bedroom fucking each other until our games could come to an end and we were entirely worn out. But that evening, there was a silent, mutual understanding that we weren’t there to play or just fuck. This was the truest, strongest way of telling one another: “I love you. I can’t lose you. Ever.” And I felt that with how fried and strained our emotions had been since New York, we were both just… broken, tired, and so grateful to be with one another. So as he lifted his head from my neck and I saw how soft and red his eyes were, so similar to mine, I kissed him before it could get out of hand.
Hotch’s right arm pulled out from underneath my back and he brought his hand to my face. After wiping away a tear from my cheek, and I returned the favor, he drove into me again with a little more force. “I love you so much,” he gasped against my jawline before nibbling down slightly. His cock hit just the right spot after stretching me further than his fingers ever could.
“Shit—” I moaned. “Please… Oh, fuck…”
He was going fast and hard now. Not like usual, but certainly a noticeable improvement from his slow hip thrusts only seconds ago. He was chasing his orgasm now, wanting to cum deep inside of me, and I wanted nothing less than that. He had given so much to me between the gingerly placed touches, the orgasms that just didn’t seem to stop, and showering me in so much love that could last a thousand lifetimes. I wanted all of him. Everything. I didn’t want the kisses to ever stop, I never wanted to leave his arms, and I wanted to feel the fullness he gave me every time.
He huffed as his muscles flexed while holding me. “I’m gonna…” I wiped my hand over his forehead as it wrinkled with concentration. He was so close; I could feel him tensing while his thrusts got increasingly sloppy. “Y/N,” he moaned my name into my mouth, and I begged him to do it again. “Y/N, Y/N, Y/N, Y/N…”
“Aaron—” I whined, almost as a warning. Once again, I was so close to the edge, too.
He let out an animalistic groan as his hold on my check tightened slightly and he came inside of me. I writhed around, holding him tighter, my hands moving to his back and clawing stripes into his skin as I came, too. He held me through our orgasms, moaning with every twitch his cock gave. When he stopped moving, he collapsed slightly, still careful not to crush me. I ran my fingers through his hair, feeling both the sexual and sensual relief waving over me.
He was there. He was with me. He was in me. He loved me. I loved him. We were going to be okay. I wasn’t going to lose him. I wasn’t going to let him go.
“I love you,” I whispered into his ear, feeling his arms snake around me so that he could hug me. “I’m here.”
After taking another moment to just hold me close, Hotch rolled off me, pulling out slowly, then falling onto the bed. His arms continued to stay wrapped around me, keeping me close to his chest as he laid down. He adjusted his head on the pillows, trying to get comfortable. I put my head on his chest, returning to the original cuddle position we had started out in the first place.
“Basics...” I patted his shoulder. “Basics is good.”
He let out a slight chuckle, “Yeah?”
“Oh, yeah,” I sighed, relaxing in his arms once more. I looked up at him slightly. “I love you, Aaron. I feel like I don’t say it enough.”
He pouted his eyes and wiped a tear from my cheek. “Every time you look at me, I know you’re thinking it. When you’re not saying it, I know it. That’s all I can ask for.”
“I love you.” I leaned up and kissed him. “I love you.” I hugged his shoulders. “I love you.” I wrapped my legs around his hips. “I love you.”
He held me close. “I love you.” He kissed me passionately. “I love you.” He grabbed my hips. “I love you.” He flipped us over again. “I love you.” He kissed my lips again. “I love you, Y/N. More than anything.”
We both leaned in for a passionate kiss.
“I love you,” we both said.

Waiting for Roses
Pairing: Dean x Reader... kind of 😏
Summary: Fridays are special. He waits for her on Fridays... and he waits for her with roses.
Warnings: mention of major character death, Dean’s daughter being cute and sad, Daddy!Dean, overall bittersweet sadness :)
Word count: 2.1K
Extra notes: Dean has a daughter here. Her name is Joanna. He calls her Jo or Joey. Also, I didn’t describe a lot of Jo and Y/N because I want you, the reader, to imagine yourself and the little girl in whatever shape or form you want. Dean loves you both with all he has.
This fic is based on the song “Rosas” by La Oreja de Van Gogh. You can listen to it here!
So, this is my first angsty one-shot here... and if I may say so, I’m pretty proud of it! I hope you guys like it! :D
Special thanks to @percywinchester27, @flamencodiva and @superfanficnatural for beta’ing this little fic. I cannot thank you enough <3
===========================================================
He’s done the same damn thing every Friday for years now and he’ll do it for years to come. Though, there is a rare occasion when he doesn’t follow through with it, and it’s more likely for him to have no plans on a Friday evening because of this little thing. It’s incredibly stupid (he always takes that thought back) and some days he finds himself swearing that this Friday would be the last, that he should’ve stopped doing this a long ago, but fuck it. It’s more of a tradition now rather than a bitter memory.
A young girl is sitting beside him on the park bench, a bouquet of pink roses lying on her lap. She looks at the matching bouquet of roses in her father’s hands as the people in the park come and go on this particular grey friday. She’s wearing small jeans, a colorful shirt and a pair of light-up tennis shoes that took months of begging on her part, until he gave in and bought them.
“Dad, can we play now?”
Dean takes a deep breath as he takes in the question, eyeing the now almost empty park in front of them. He has to admit, ever since Jo asked him to take her with him on his Friday outings, they’ve become a little less sad, a little less heartbroken and a lot more, dare he say, enjoyable.
He knows how much his daughter likes their Fridays now. She’s made sure that he does more than sit on this very same bench, with no other company than his spiraling thoughts, every fucking Friday until it’s time for the next destination. So he turns to look at her, takes the roses gently from her hands and lays both bouquets down on the bench before he smiles complicitly, “Pit stop at the swings?”
Joanna Winchester wastes no time in dashing out of the bench, “Last one to get there is a rotten egg!” she screams back at him.
Dean has to fight a knot that begins to form in his throat at her little taunt. So much like her mother.
The one thing he can still do at the moment is run, so he does. Dean screams exaggeratedly and loudly, telling his daughter, ‘it’s not fair! You're too fast and I’m too old for this!’
Her giggles in response are music to his ears.
Dean groans in defeat once more as he watches her take a seat in a swing and wave her arms and legs in a little dance, whooping and claiming victory.
He makes a show of falling to the ground, holding a hand to his chest and panting, “One day I’m gonna win, bug. Mark my words.”
Joanna giggles again, teasing him about being a sore loser.
They spend the next hour playing and goofing around the park. Both Winchesters keep looking back at their bench, making sure the roses are still there, beautiful and unharmed.
“Dad, can we go to Mom now?”
Her father stops dead in his tracks as the laugh dies right away. With a quick look at his watch, Dean nods, “Yup, time to go to Mom, bean.”
Bouquets in hand, they start walking out of the park and towards Baby. As soon as Jo has her seatbelt on, they’re out of there.
Dean checks on her every few seconds. She’s caressing the roses delicately, even playing with a few of the petals to open them up a little bit more. She has questions. He braces himself for a bomb.
“Dad, why do we always sit on that bench?”
“What bench?”
“The one at the park. Our bench.”
He has to clear his throat a couple of times as the memories flood back, “That’s where Mommy and I used to meet. For our dates.”
“Really?” her little eyes widened in wonder.
“Uh-huh,” he confirms. “I used to wait for her right on that bench with roses ready for her. Every time. We liked to go out on Fridays.”
Joanna stares down at the roses in silence for the next few moments. The next time he looks into the rearview mirror, his little bug is sniffling and he catches sight of a little droplet falling down her face, “But then Mommy had to go,” she sniffles.
“Mommy had to go,” he croaks in agreement. “But, she loves her roses. And I like waiting for her.”
“You don’t hate that I come with you?”
“Joey, there is nothing that could be better than waiting for Mommy with you.”
“Okay,” another sniffle.
“Bug, look at me,” he pleads softly, giving his daughter his best smile once she does. “I love you very, very, very much, alright? And there is nothing I would rather do than be with my wonderful little ladybug.” Dean takes the last turn, getting into the parking lot of the cemetery. With trembling hands, he kills the engine, takes his bouquet and gets out of the car to help Jo out of the backseat. As she steps out, he gives her a big hug, careful to not ruin her bouquet, “Okie dokie, Joey?” he mumbled to her ear.
Her little fist tightens in his shirt as a trembling and small ‘okie dokie, Dad’ is mumbled back.
They stay there for a few more seconds, clinging to each other with all their strength before stepping away to look at the gate that leads to the graveyard. Taking a hold of Jo’s free hand, Dean smiles down at her as tears begin to run down his face.
“Let’s go, bug. We can’t miss Mommy’s birthday.”
It’s fairly easy to spot that particular grave. It’s unmissable to both of them by now; the path is so familiar that they could find it blind. The funeral was the second worst day of his life, with a trembling six year old Jo clinging to him as she cried, an uncharacteristically quiet Sam, a crying Castiel and the few friends (more like family) they had left. He’d fought tooth and nail to not give her a hunter’s funeral.
Burning her was a point of no return and he couldn’t imagine how he’d live knowing that he’d completely closed the door on the possibility of her coming back. Back then, he’d reasoned that if she ever came back, (if he found a way to do it) she’d need her body.
But no demon ever agreed to bargain, no matter what he did. Angels were dicks, like always. Billie had gone on about balance and how the Winchesters couldn’t go around avoiding death forever, no matter how much she’d respected Y/N back when she still breathed. Rowena, Castiel and even the Winchester brothers themselves couldn’t find a spell strong enough to bring her back (or maybe Dean hadn’t been told if they ever did). She was gone. After two years, he still wasn’t okay with that, but fuck if he hadn’t learned to brace himself and be there for Joey.
Dean feels Jo squeeze his hand tighter when they’re only a few feet away from it. Her grave is simple, typical gray stone engraved with a name, a date and a quote in front of a large patch of grass where the coffin had gone down. There used to only be one vase for the roses he brought in weekly, but a second one had been added after Joanna began to ask her father to let her buy Mommy flowers, too.
They dust away any leaves or dirt that may have made its way onto the stone. Dean takes out the now dead roses from last Friday before setting the new flowers on the vases either side of the grave and sitting next to each other in front of it. Dean lays one arm across his daughter’s shoulders and takes a hold of one of her hands with the other.
“Happy birthday, honey,” he croaks.
Joey has begun to sniffle again beside him, “Happy birthday, Mommy.”
Dean screws his eyes shut at the way her voice cracks and turns to kiss the top of her hair, whispering how he’s here and mommy’s here as well, and that it’s okay, before looking at the stone one more time.
“We got you your favorites,” he smiles softly. “Most beautiful roses we could find. Joey thought you would be in a mood for pink roses.”
“I’ll try to find white ones next time,” the girl promised.
“I’m sure she’ll love them,” he chuckled sadly. “We miss you, babe. A lot… but we are doing good lately, don’t worry. Joey’s doing great at school. You’d be so proud of our little ladybug; she’s super smart. Like, super duper smart. Just like you. We learned how to properly bake cakes a few days ago, so we can surprise uncle Sammy next year on his birthday,” a little poke on his stomach has him rolling his eyes playfully, though the tears won’t stop coming. “Alright, and so we can also bake Joey’s birthday cake in a few months instead of buying it from ‘the creepy lady’ bakery.”
The kid is quick to defend herself, “I don’t like how she always grabs my cheeks!” she complains. “Dad and I had a flour fight when we made cakes. He even let me watch the Lord of the Rings!”
“She loved it, by the way. I’m telling ya, our kid is super awesome!”
The talks are the best part of every Friday most of the time. Both Winchesters get wrapped up in whatever ducktales they had during the week, or plans and aches and such and they tell her everything about them. Sometimes they stay for hours, sometimes mere minutes, but they visit most Fridays without fail. If they really try, it feels like she never really left. Dean can still hear her laughter, her jokes and puns and all the love she used to give him and their daughter. Joanna told him once that sometimes she gets scared because she can’t remember her clearly, but he’s quick to solve that with a quick trip to the living room in their house –where the photo album lives– and as many anecdotes he can tell her about.
They stay by her side for about half an hour.
Reluctantly, they get up and once again, they tell her they love and miss her. Dean promises they’ll be back next Friday and Jo is quick to confirm it. By the time they’re back in Baby, both Winchesters’ smiles are not so wobbly, not so sad.
Halfway home, Jo breaks the comfortable silence, “You really think mom would be proud of me?”
“Oh ladybug,” he huffs. “I know so. She’d be incredibly proud of you.”
When they get home, Dean feels lighter and he knows his ladybug is feeling better, too.
Fridays are special.
So he claps his hands together and proposes a movie marathon, followed by board games tomorrow morning. Jo’s excitement at the sole mention of the plan has him taking out popcorn and setting it in the microwave. She runs to the living room to pick out the movies they’re watching and get some blankets as well as changing into her pajamas.
Treacherous thoughts begin to invade his head: how he misses Y/N, how he wishes she could enjoy Fridays like always. All the big and little things that used to make this house a home (they couldn’t risk anything supernatural happening to Jo). Dean shakes his head. No. She is gone, but this house is still a home and their family is still loving.
Hunting is thousands of miles behind him; something he never thought could be possible. Joey will grow up. More important than that, he’ll be there for their daughter. He’ll do whatever he can to make sure she has a future and he’ll do it for Y/N, because if she can’t see it then damn it, he’ll be there to raise their little lady bug.
As the microwave lets him know the popcorn is ready, he makes his way to the couch in front of the TV, and Dean finds peace. He can do this. He’ll wait for as many Fridays as he can, with roses in his hands and love in his heart and all the cheesy things Y/N used to love.
He’ll wait to see his wife again even if it means it’ll take decades for that to happen.
Dean passes the popcorn over to Jo as the opening credits for The Princess and the Frog begin and he lays an arm over the back of the couch.
He has hope that next Friday will be good as well.

I really hope y’all liked it! Please lemme know what you think, whether it’s with a reblog, an ask, everything and anything is welcome! :D

Leather n’ Red - Reggie Peters
Summary: Much like the deceased boys of Sunset Curve, Duchess died right before the gig that could’ve been her band’s big break. Thing is, she left the dark room a little earlier than they did, made a couple friends and learned a few tricks. What will happen when she and the boys can be seen when singing with Julie, the only alive person that can see them all?
Paring: Reggie Peters x Duchess Himura (OC)
Word count: 3.2k
Warnings: One f-bomb dropped, 2020 slang and the boys being confused
Thank you to @beansisarat7 for beta reading this chapter for me!
A/N: Here’s the second chapter! A quick little disclaimer, I’ve never actually been clubbing, so I’m sorry if this isn’t really right. That being said, I had a lot of fun writing this chapter, especially since I did it instead of doing homework, anyway, I hope you enjoy!

Chapter 2 // No cap, but go off I guess
After hanging out in the garage for a bit, Luke poofs us somewhere. The guys grunt a little, not used to poofing everywhere.
Reggie looks down at himself for a second, letting out a "Huh?"
We all look out below us onto a familiar street, watching people passing on the sidewalk in silence.
Luke breaks it, "Hey, I know being dead isn't our first choice, but I mean, it sure is easy getting around."
"It's like, super easy to get everywhere," I agree.
"Easy for you, maybe," Reggie says, "I lost my shirt on that one," he gestures to his bare torso. I let my eyes linger a little longer than they should've.
Then his shirt poofs back and I let out an almost inaudible, "aww." Based on the look Alex gave me it wasn't as quiet as I meant for it to be.
"Ooh never mind! There it is," Reggie says, happy his shirt is back and Luke chuckles.
Alex and I notice the sound of neon buzzing and look up to see a sign for the Orpheum.
"Okay, so, why'd you bring us here?" Alex asks, "Just another painful reminder of where we never got to play?"
"Yeah, thanks Luke, not cool," I back him up, Luke and Reggie look up to the sign before Luke brings his eyes back to Alex and I.
"I mean, dudes, the game isn't over yet," Luke says before poofing us down onto the pavement below and begins walking, "I'm telling you, we've been given a second chance. Let's find some music. Let's see how many clubs we can hit before sunrise."
"We're going clubbing! A'right!" I exclaim, getting excited and giving Luke a high five.
We keep walking for a second when we realize Alex isn't with us, we turn around, walking backwards, "Hey Alex, you coming?" Luke asks.
"Let's go!" Reggie yells to him.
"We're partying tonight!" I yell before poofing away the red and black striped sweater below my AC/DC graphic tee.
"So, where are we hitting first?" Alex asks, running to catch up to us.
"I, uh, I actually have no idea," Luke reveals.
"Okay, don't worry, I know a few places," I say confidently before remembering that they think I arrived at the same time as them, "If they're still here that is."
"Okay, tell us, where we heading first?" Reggie grins excitedly.
"We're gonna see if we can get into The Doe," I tell them, "It's about three blocks over," and with that I poof us to The Doe.
The boys look at the sign for the club, and then to the line to get in. If we were alive then we'd have to wait like an hour to get in, but since we're ghosts we can sneak in in two seconds.
"Come on!" I say, grabbing their arms and dragging them in.
There's some music playing, but it's not any 90s songs, nothing they'd find familiar. It takes me a second but I'm pretty sure it's that band named 5 Seconds of Summer or something, Billy's been trying to get me up to date with music and I've been doing fine so far.
"She looks so perfect standing there
In my American Apparel underwear,"
Yup, it's 5SOS, Billy would be proud.
"Wow," Reggie says, looking around at all the lights and people on the dancefloor.
"Yeah," I smile, "What d'you think? Is music different now?"
"Well, this is one song, but it's pretty good, no Sunset Curve though," he grins.
"Yeah, I agree. But it's pop rock, so it won't be as full on as Sunset Curve."
"Wanna dance?" he asks me, extending a hand for me to take.
'Fuck it,' I think, "Sure," I take his hand and we begin to dance. It's not really a song you can dance with a partner to, unless you're grinding I guess, but we make it work, dancing next to each other and he spins me every now and then which is fun.
When the song finishes we go to check out what Alex and Luke are doing. When we find them they're looking at the DJ's playlist, and they are skimming through the names trying to figure out which are rock bands and which they think would be best to listen to.
"Luke," I say, taking his arm, "Just let the DJ play her playlist. If you wanna hear the new music then just listen to it."
"But, Duchess, I wanna hear the competition. I wanna find out what rock bands are like now!" he protests.
"Please Luke?" I say, tugging on his arm again, "I'll dance with you?" I offer.
"Ugh, fine, only because I can't say no to a pretty girl that wants to dance."
"Sure you can't Patterson," I smirk, pulling him onto the dance floor as a slower song begins. It takes me a second until I recognize it as a song by the Vamps, Somebody to You.
"Look at me now, I'm falling
I can't even talk, still stuttering,"
We hold hands and dance, lip-synching to a song we don't even know, laughing when we clearly mess up. He spins me around a couple times, and I dip him at the end of one of the choruses making us burst into giggles. I'm really starting to like hanging out with the boys, they're great fun to be around.
The song ends and we hug, "So," I begin, "What did you think of that song?"
"Well, it's not rock, and it's definitely not Sunset Curve," I roll my eyes at these observations, "But it was good, I had fun dancing to it."
"See? Just because it's not rock doesn't mean it's trash," I laugh, and he rolls his eyes.
I turn to Reggie and Alex before taking a step towards Alex, "Well, since I've danced with these two morons, I guess I owe you a dance?"
I put my hand out for him to take and after looking to Reggie and Luke, who both nod at him, he looks back to me and takes my hand.
The song we dance to is Girls Like You by Maroon 5. It's a nice song, slower and a pop rock song that's more pop than rock. We both have a lot of fun doing turns and exaggeratedly pointing to each other for every,
"When I come through
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah,"
Alex is definitely a dancer, and a good one at that. We both have fun dancing more hip-hop when we get to Cardi's verse and we're laughing the entire time.
When the song ends we join the other two and they just look at us both wide eyed.
"What?" we ask.
"You two really like to dance," Reggie says.
"Yeah, guess Alex isn't the only dancer in the group now," Luke comments. Oh, if only you knew.
"So, next club?" I ask.
"Sure, where to next?" Reggie asks me.
I think for a bit before deciding, "How about we go to Okay?"
"Okay?" the boys chorus.
"Yeah, Okay, it's a club, you down?"
The boys exchange a look before shrugging, "Sure," Luke says, "Take us to Okay."
♪°•°∞°•°♪°•°∞°•°♪°•°∞°•°♪°•°∞°•°♪
I take the guys to Okay and we dance for a bit, Okay plays a few older songs from like the 2000s and the 90s, so we actually know the words to these songs. We're goofing about and dancing when Reggie and I bump into someone, we exchange a look before looking back at the person we bumped into.
The person has short green hair, a long sleeved black and white top and a black skirt with black suspenders seemingly holding it up, they look great.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry," they say before realizing what just happened. "Ghosts?"
"Yeah, we're ghosts, I'm Duchess," I tell them.
"And I'm Reggie," Reggie says, putting out his hand to shake theirs.
"Well, I'm Kai," Kai says, shaking Reggie's hand," And in case you were wondering I use they/them pronouns."
"They— th- what?" Reggie stammers, confused.
"Oh, uh, Kai, Reggie died in the 90s and only just left the dark room, he's still catching up," I explain to them.
"Oh, that's okay, I can explain if you want," Kai offers, and Reggie nods his head.
"When we refer to people we use pronouns, right?" Reggie nods again, "Well, instead of using he/him or she/her, I use they. Like what you would do if you didn't know if someone was a he or a she. Think of it like you found a wallet, you'd say 'oh, someone left their wallet here, I'll leave it so that they can find it,' do you follow?"
"Yeah, I do. Thanks for teaching me," Reggie smiles, still slightly embarrassed, "I use he/him pronouns, is that right?"
"Yeah, it is," I smile, "And I use she/her."
"Well, now that we're properly introduced, do you wanna come meet my friends?" Kai asks.
"Sure, can we go get our friends, Alex and Luke?" I ask.
"Sure, go ahead," Kai says, "We'll be over in the booth over there," they point to a booth in the corner of the club.
They walk to their both and Reggie and I scramble to find Alex and Luke. When we do we tell them we found other ghosts and Reggie explains to them Kai's pronouns, he seemed really proud to be educating them and it was honestly adorable.
We go over to the booth Kai pointed out to us and meet their friends, Mel, who died in 2017, is cis and uses she/her and Eli, who died in 2019, is trans and uses he/him. They're really cool people who told us a lot about newer music, and what it's like being a ghost. They also told us that they like to prank alive people even though they don't really know how to do much as ghosts.
"Just because you can't touch 'em doesn't mean you can't mess with 'em," Eli says with an evil grin.
"What do you mean?" Luke asks.
"Well, for instance, they can't feel your skin, but they can feel fabric and texture," Mel explains, "They can feel the wetness of water on your hand but not your hand. Ya get me?"
"Yeah, I get you."
"I know this is off topic but tbh I don't care, Luke, your fit is so 90s but like it's also fire," Eli compliments.
"Uhhhh," the guys sit with their mouths open, not knowing what to say, because they are not up to date with 2020 slang.
"Eli, dude, they're literally from the 90s," I laugh, "They highkey have no clue what you're saying."
"Oohhh, tea," Mel gasps.
"Yeah, they make knowing basic slang seem like a flex," I giggle.
"Cap, that's gotta be cap," Eli shakes his head.
"No cap, but go off I guess," I shrug.
"Damn, no need to be salty."
"I'm not salty, they're just himbos."
"They're himbos?" Mel asks, "You sure?"
"Well, yeah, but like they also create a himbo when combined. Luke is beefy, you see those arms? And Reggie is dumb of ass," I say before turning to Reggie, "said with love. And Alex is pure of heart. Ergo, they create himbo."
"Can't argue with that logic, but I'm shook, how do you understand what we're saying, and they don't?"
"Well, first off I died in 2005, second off, I've been here a little bit longer than they have, that's why I have the 200 IQ plays that they don't."
"Still don't know what you're saying," Reggie says.
"Stop messing with them," Kai scolds, "I'm sorry about them, I died in 2014 and spent a little while in the dark room, it took me a while to figure out what they were saying."
"It's fine," Alex says, "We just, uh, just have a lot to catch up on I guess."
"You do, but it's getting late and if we don't yeet ourselves back home then Angel is gonna kill us, again," Eli says.
"Bet!" Mel agrees.
"We gotta get going, is what they mean, but we'll see you around?" Kai asks.
"Of course," I say, "See ya."
"Bye guys," they all say.
"Bye," the guys reply before Kai, Eli, and Mel poof away.
"Shall we hit the next club?" I ask the guys and they nod. And so I take them to what will be our final club of the night, a place called Midnight.
I poof us there and the guys drag me to a table before all turning to me.
"What?" I question, confused.
"How the hell do you know all that stuff?" Luke interrogates me.
"Yeah, I thought you showed up same time as us," Alex adds on.
"And what's a himbo?" Reggie asks, the guys look at him, "What? It's a valid question!"
"Okay, well, I didn't appear into the afterlife with you," I elucidate, "I just became visible to Julie with you guys. I've been here for like a month and a half already."
"A month and a half? And you didn't think to tell us?!" Alex all but yells at me.
"Sorry! I was confused when I was brought to you and Julie and then I realized who you were, and then I found out Julie could see me! Sorry if I didn't spill my life story to you," I sass.
"Yeah, no that makes sense," Reggie agrees.
"Yeah, I mean it's not every day you meet your music idols," Luke says arrogantly.
"And it's definitely not every day you realize they're huge dorks either," I say, pushing Luke's shoulder gently and he laughs.
"Reggie did raise a good question earlier though," Luke says.
"Oh? And what is that?" I ask.
"What is a himbo?"
"Ah, no. You're not ready to learn that yet."
"What do you mean?" Alex questions.
"You're just not ready. Trust me on that. Now come on, do we wanna stay here or will I show you some new things in LA?"
"Let's stay here a bit," Luke suggests, and the boys agree.
"Okay, let's dance then," I say grabbing them to the dance floor. It's definitely different clubbing as a ghost, there's no eating or drinking and no mingling unless you meet other ghosts.
After a bit of dancing the music quiets down, it's still playing but if you sang into the mic onstage then you could drown it out. I look to Reggie and he smiles at me, I nod to the mic and he taps Luke's shoulder and points to the mic, we smile and go onstage.
I look at the DJ's playlist and find a song that would absolutely be fun to sing with the boys. It's a song by Green Day and so although it came out in 2004, they'll still know the band. Before I put it on, I explain to them that although yes, the song does have a slur in it, it was meant as a reclamation and beyond that we can just not sing it, we agreed on the latter. I hit play on the karaoke option and make sure the boys can see the lyrics.
And so we begin as any normal person would start a song, screaming at the top of our lungs,
"DON'T WANNA BE AN AMERICAN IDIOT
DON'T WANT A NATION UNDER THE NEW MANIA,"
Singing with the boys was so much fun, honestly, I want to sing with them again for sure! People are confused when we finish because no one was up on the stage and we don't exactly sound like Green Day, but they enjoyed it, nonetheless.
♪°•°∞°•°♪°•°∞°•°♪°•°∞°•°♪°•°∞°•°♪
After staying in the club for a while the boys decided that they did want me to take them around the city. I show them all the new venues and places where bands play gigs, I show them what places shut down and what's there in their place.
The guys immediately stopped the tour when I revealed that I learned a couple ghosting tricks from my ghost friend. They really wanted to see what I could do, I can't really do much, but I showed them regardless. I lifted a couple things and set off a couple car alarms but I couldn't do much other than that. The guys found it really cool though, I gotta introduce them to Billy at some point.
The sun starts to rise and we decide that we need to start getting back to the Molina house, the boys want to wander for a bit longer, but I decide to go back to go check on Carlos, he's gotta be a little confused, especially after seeing Julie see me last night.
I poof to the door outside his room and knock quietly before hearing Carlos saying, "Come in."
"Hey Carlito," I smile after walking through the door.
"Hey Dee," he smiles, sitting on his bed, "What's up?"
"I just thought you'd want to know what's going on. Ya know, because of last night."
"Oh, yeah, could Julie see you?"
"Yeah, she, uh, she can."
"She can see you? How?!"
"Well, it's a long story, and I'm not 100% sure how she can see me either, but she can," I then whisper to myself, "I really don't understand why she can see the others and you can't though."
"What?" he asks.
"Oh, nothing. So, what's new, what are you gonna do today?" I deflect.
"Since we're moving, I have to pack my room, which means cleaning under my bed, and we both know that I don't wanna clean under my bed," the boy says, shaking his head.
"Hey!" I say, offended, "You found my demo under your bed!"
"Yeah, and who knows, I might find more demos and summon more demon ghosts!"
"I'm not a demon!" I protest, "I'm a ghost! A normal ghost, just tryna get through the afterlife."
"That's fair, well, I gotta get ready for school, but I'll see you after?"
"Yeah, of course Calo," I assure him, "I'll see you later."
"Bye DeeDee."
And with that I poof to the guys, they were still wandering around LA and when I show up we all decide to go back to the studio.
We all poof into the back of the studio and we hear Julie singing and playing the piano. This is surprising to the boys because she told them that she doesn't play, and it's surprising for me because I know that she hasn't played since her mom died, so it's a little crazy for all of us.
"Wake up your dream and make it true Look out, look inside of you When you feel lost Relight that spark, time to come out of the dark Wake up, mm-mm, wake up"
We all look at each other in awe of Julie. This girl has an incredible voice and she plays the piano amazingly, honestly I'm glad she's playing again, depriving the world of her talent is almost criminal!
When she's done, Julie lifts the last sheet of music off the piano reading the note that her mom left at the bottom of it before hugging it and crying softly.

we’ll sweep out the ashes in the morning |CHAPTER 7|
Even in the middle of New York's freezing month of February, a scandalous familiar fire is ignited within Jake and Amy when they run into each other after years apart. Luckily there's nothing wrong with being caught up in a fire that has to die out soon, right?
Read chapter here or on AO3
CHAPTER MASTERLIST HERE
Being a cop, experiencing so much harm, hopelessness, chaos and everything in-between, was the hardest thing he’d ever have to handle.
Or that’s what he thought right up until the moment Jake stood on the doorstep to Sophia and, weirdly, his apartment in an attempt to get himself to come forward and confess to what he’d done - or just knock on the door would be a good start. For the last minutes, he didn’t even remember how many at that point, he’d been restlessly pacing back and forth outside the front door to their, his and Sophia’s, so-called “home”. But it being Brooklyn it was probably just a matter of time before someone would call the cops on him since he did look kind of disturbed and creepy: he couldn’t keep pacing forever.
His heart was beating so fast; so fast he was absolutely persuaded of having never experienced any similar feeling before. Another thing he noticed, he could’ve sworn, was that he could hear every pumping movement his heart uttered, which made no sense considering he simultaneously felt lightheaded and like no oxygen was getting to his brain. Man, he had messed up so hard. Not only with Amy, but with Sophia too.
Nevertheless he didn’t get much more time to consider, suffer and make up his mind, in reality none at all, because a loud repetitive knock from inside the apartment beat him to it and completely threw him off guard.
“Who’s there!?” he could hear a woman’s voice yell from inside the apartment: Sophia, of course. Her sounding upset was an understatement. “I’ve been hearing pacing and mumbling for the past 5 minutes so don’t act like no one’s there! I can and will call the police!”
Oh, shit - no more time to think. He had to just jump, head in first and… do whatever he could. Either that or cops, probably from his own precinct, would be there to arrest him within 5 minutes.
“No no no, please don’t! It’s me Jake!”
The yelling and warning bangs from her side of the door seized but probably not because, if he knew her well enough, she was relieved. Not that he’d expected her to be though; he couldn’t even begin to imagine how she was feeling, abandoned by the person whom she thought she would spend the rest of her days with, and now, without her knowledge, he was back to make it even worse.
“Can we talk?” He called out.
Silence. 5… 10… 15… seconds.
“I don’t think we have anything to talk about, Jake. I think where you stand has been made very clear.”
Venom coursed through her voice, every syllable, word and sound, which Jake couldn’t even blame her for: he deserved it. All she’d done was love him, saying yes to loving him forever when he had asked her to marry him, and all it’d gotten her was being left on her wedding day; being cheated on though she wasn’t even aware of this. Yet.
“You don’t have to say anything; you don’t even have to look at me… I just need to-“ he cut himself off trying to think of the right words to say though he knew nothing would ever be perfectly right. “I need to come clean: lay it all out on the table. I’m a the world’s biggest dick, and I’m not here to try to convince you of the opposite… Let me just explain a few things, okay? Please, Sophia…”
A sigh full of regret put a period to what he had to say; what he could say as he stood outside the gates to confession waiting to learn if his admission of guilt would be welcomed. On top of this he also felt deep regret knowing he’d hurt an incredible woman, knowing he could’ve acted so much more wisely, but also at the same time not regretting every moment he’d gotten with Amy.
Then, to his surprise, the door swung open revealing an exhausted-looking Sophia clad in sweatpants and being the exact opposite of what he knew her for: put together, cool, always on the move, determined. He’d done this to her and, if possible, he now hated himself even more.
“Hey,” to say smiling felt inappropriate was some understatement as he put on a weak one, but he didn’t know what else to do. Scream? Cry? He sure did feel like it. The smile ended up being the less weird option although it didn’t earn him one in return and that was okay.
Another tense silence, one more than before now that the door was no longer present as a buffer between them, crept up the stairs to where they were by the front door. It immediately let Jake know that no, he probably shouldn’t expect to be let in.
“I don’t have time for small talk, Jacob. Get to the point.”
Jacob. Oh, he was in so much trouble.
“Eh- okay,” his hands shifted uncomfortably in his jean’s front pocket, he took a deep breath and then jumped into the freezing ocean of truth: eyes closed, head first, can’t lose.
“So, first of all, I know this must mean nothing to you which is far beyond understandable, but just wanna say, again, how so very sorry I am for what I did to you - to us…” he paused to see if he should expect some kind of answer, reaction, the bare minimum but alas no. The only moving she did was crossing her arms defensively in front of her chest as if she was gearing up for war. His most qualified guess was that this was his cue to continue.
“…and I’m not here to rub salt in the wound and this might be selfish, I’m not really sure anymore, but I need to tell you the truth. The whole truth.”
This to some extent seemed to catch Sophia’s attention, a sudden curiosity lighting up her darker than usual eyes as if she was a kid who’s just been told they’re going to be let in on a secret. Only this secret surely wouldn’t make her feel any good.
“A few months back, in February, something happened and I already should’ve told you back then but I didn’t because I was a confused and a huge stupid coward and I didn’t know how to tell you.”
From the look on her face Jake could tell that Sophia was slowly starting to put the pieces together. It was only a matter of words, no matter how carefully picked they were on his part, before she would crack the code and know. The secret would be out with taking it back being no option.
“Remember that night I said I was going to Shaw’s with a friend from work?” he tried, not expecting an answer but hoping she’d recall which would allow him to spare her from the details.
Then a look of realisation, the last puzzle piece falling into its designated spot consumed the look on his almost-wife’s face. He could physically see the microsecond it all came together in her mind and it felt like witnessing someone pulling the safety pin of a grenade, and now he had to stay, stand his ground, and handle the explosion.
“Y-you…” she stammered before closing her eyes as to compose herself after the shock of the truth bomb. “You… cheated on me?” he could tell the word was laced with venom, tasting horridly in her mouth as she couldn’t believe she had to say it. “And you didn’t even have the balls to tell me!?” within seconds her voice transitioned from disbelief to loud, ringing anger.
What else could he do but comply? He knew he was the traitor; the culpable; the one in the wrong.
“I’m so sorry.”
“I don’t give a shit about your apologies! I was here, by your side, working my ass off for this wedding and us, meanwhile you were out and about screwing some chick?”
The flinch Jake’s face upon hearing Amy be put on a par with ‘some random girl he’d just screwed’ was in no way discreet, and Sophia of course noticed. It was indeed inevitable that their relationship was over Jake knew that Sophia knew him well - they’d been together for long and about to get married after all. Also, she was a lawyer so there was really no where for him to hide. Her entire demeanour quieted down upon internally analysing the facts.
Jake Peralta, a good guy with no scandalous past, goes out to get drinks with “someone from work” and cheats on her, flinches when she belittles this other woman…
“I know her, don’t I?”
Perhaps yes he was coming clean about everything but still he didn’t exactly feel like exclaiming the mystery woman’s identity. Alas the silence he met Sophia with was enough of an answer. The wheels continuously turned inside her mind, so loud that Jake could’ve sworn that he could actually hear it.
Jake Peralta. Good guy. No scandalous past or track record. Drinks. “Someone from work”. Flinch.
There must be feeling involved. She knows her.
“Someone from work,” Sophia repeated out loud as to speed up the answer coming to her. It was all one big mess in her head but somehow comes together forming a perfectly clear answer.
“Amy… “ she tasted the name on her tongue trying to find the second half of it. “… Amy Santiago. The girl you used to work with back at the Nine-Nine.”
Another silence; another answer; another soundless yes. Suddenly Jake wished he’d never told Sophia about Amy. The two women had never met, but of course Jake couldn’t enter a relationship without bringing home a lot of shop talk, which involved anecdotes and pictures about his squad: ex-partner Santiago who’d by then moved on to work with Major Crimes included
“I can’t believe you went out and screwed an old colleague while I sat at home like the good, naive wife-to-be!” She cursed loudly after having gotten over the big blow of the mistress’ reveal. Jake flinched having no defence as he knew very well that he deserved the rough treatment. What he’d done to her was inconsolable and unforgivable.
“Fuck you, Jake,” her eyes and words were equally life-draining as they dug into him like daggers. “Fuck you for being with me, fuck you for telling me you loved me, for you for building a life with me, fuck you for proposing and the biggest of all fuck yous for almost leading me into a what was already a dead-end marriage.”
By then, having already threatened moments ago but had only actually fallen in the midst of her last outburst, tears were falling on her cheeks.
“I deserve every single ‘fuck you’ you have to offer and I’m so sorry, Sophia. Really, I truly deeply am and, not that it matters now, but I did love you and still do… It’s just-“
“I’m not her,” she finished his sentence for her making it much simpler than whatever long, intricate explanation he would end up forming. And she suddenly looked very calm; upsettingly calm and settled even.
Jake froze. He knew he was thinking it but didn’t exactly expect Sophia to catch up on it so fast.
“You might be the world’s worst person to me right now, and I’m not about to forgive it…” Her eyes for the first time tonight, through the tears, showed a sign of sadness, regret even, rather than anger like she’d come to realise something. “… But I also know that you’re a man who does love and probably did love me, even though it doesn’t feel like it right now, which is also why I know you would never do this to me if there wasn’t someone you…” she halted as if the words didn’t want to come out of her. “… if there wasn’t someone you loved even more, and I don’t want to be with you if there’s someone out there you love more than me. I don’t want to waste my life being someone’s number two: I jut wish you’d told me earlier… Or simply in a way that didn’t include screwing around.”
Jake had never considered the fact that perhaps he had what resembled love for Amy, but hearing Sophia somehow explain his mess to him though she was the victim, it suddenly seemed more clear and obvious than ever before.
“You’re worth much more than I can offer you, Sophia… And I’m sorry I didn’t communicate that properly.”
“Well…” his almost-wife had seemed to calm down although the clenching feeling in his gut, guilt, would surely stick around for some time. “Just make sure to at least offer that Amy something equal her worth. Don’t be an idiot twice.”
Jake nodded trying to change it all in; the switch in tone and mood, all the new facts hitting him harder than a storm.
“Did she know?” Sophia quizzed again after a moment of silence.
“What?”
“That you had me?  That you were engaged?”
“Oh, uh…” Jake frowned hating that he knew the answer. Even though it didn’t matter he didn’t want what she did that night to represent Amy. But he couldn’t lie. Not anymore. “Yeah, I think… I believe I mentioned it.”
“Well,” Sophia took a moment to compose herself, grabbing the door as to get ready to close it. “Then perhaps you’re already offering her something equal to her worth.”
-
Between the confessing to Sophia and trying to win Amy back (is it ‘back’ if he never really had her?) Jake’s having a week from hell, and it very quickly turns out that talking to Sophia very surprisingly comes down to being the easiest task of the two.
It was a dark evening with clouds assembling threatening to spill rain and thunder covering the sky. Perhaps the weather knew how he felt; hopeless, somber, alone. After obviously not being able to stay in his and Sophia’s apartment anymore he’d offered to take the high road and move out - or at least move himself out along with a bag of clothes and bare necessities. The rest of his stuff would come around once he’d found a new place to call his own.
Until then he crashed at Charles’ which both he, Genevieve and especially nephew Nikolaj immensely enjoyed. Although he seemed not as happy and joking as usual, Nikolaj noticed, there was nothing better than spending evenings playing with his priceless collection of trucks and uncle Jake who always impressed him with conniving truck-sounds.
But as soon as the darkness and the moon reigned over New York, when Niko and his parents were fast asleep and the apartment was dead silent, Jake was left to himself in the guest room to ponder endlessly and hating himself so much more. At least during the day he could repress and distract himself from these thoughts and feelings.
The end of him and Amy, though he barely even knew what that meant anymore, suddenly seemed inevitable. Turned out that getting back in contact with a person whose trust you’d lost was harder than one would think - especially when you were obsessed, dying to be with said person, and she wouldn’t answer any calls, texts or voicemails which would allow you to explain.
Jake experienced this first hand as he dialled her number only to be met with her by now all too familiar voicemail.
“Ames, it’s me for the…” he took a brief glance at his phone immediately feeling slightly embarrassed by the sight of call list. “… 4th time today (20th time this week). Please, I’m begging you, pick up. I talked to Sophia and I’m-“ he searched his mind for the perfect words to say but they seemed so far gone, used up and meaningless by now. It already felt like he’d tried every way of wording possible to explain his renewed, honest intentions.
A deep sigh filled the pause before he preceded, slowly feeling himself slipping and giving up. “I miss you. I never meant to hurt you, and I know nothing will undo that I in fact did but please let me explain. I’m at Charles’. I’m staying here until I can find a new place to live and, yeah, Sophia is no longer in the picture. It’s just you, Amy. I just want you. Please call me back - or even just a text would be good too.”
He hung up before putting down his phone and turning over to lie sleeplessly, one more night to add to the list, in his lonely borrowed bed.
To no one’s surprise, least of all Jake’s, this declaration and plead number 20 wasn’t the one to convince Amy of giving him the time of day either. There was no way over, under or around the fact that she simply didn’t want to hear from him, and even less let him hear anything back. Though he was dying to explain himself, wanting nothing more than run to her apartment and kick down her door, tell her he wanted her,  he also knew that wasn’t the way things worked. Maybe in movies but not in real life with real people, real feelings and real consequences.
No matter how badly he needed and missed her he respected her wishes, which seemingly was not seeing him. Giving up on her felt wrong, unreal and excruciating when just five days ago he’d been lying in bed with her in his arms in the warm morning sunlight. And though he wasn’t officially about to back down and give in to the screwed up circumstances that had gotten them here, there sure wasn’t much motivation left in him but one thing: Amy.
Seeing Amy. Talking to Amy. Apologising to Amy. Admiring Amy. Touching Amy. Loving Amy, someday when that word seemed rational. Anything with Amy, he wanted it and would go to great lengths to earn it.
That, all that, he hoped, would be enough to mend them again someday hopefully soon.

Under those sorts of circumstances, a chance to repair his fragile friendship with Buck might be possible - but it won't be easy when Buck has a new boyfriend.
121k - 25/25 Chapters
Commentary: Right, I've read this one before, and I have conflicted feelings about it... the writing is really good, but well, they deal with Eddie getting amnesia, and there's not a real resolution of him getting al of his memories back, only some of them. Now, for me, that didn't really work out just as I wanted it, but I still liked the story, and like it's written really well with good character driven story and whatnot... So yeah, read at own risk

a leaf falls on loneliness
Buck doesn’t think that if he were to say, “I’m in a bad place”, that anyone would turn him away. Really, he doesn’t. The 118 has too many good, kind people for that.
But every time he wants to open his mouth, to say something, to reach out to Eddie or Bobby or Hen or Chim, he hears Eddie yelling, “you’re exhausting.”
—you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting, you’re exhausting—
So each day he does his job and he laughs and he jokes and he pretends he’s the care-free goofball he’s always been. And each day he packs away his bruises and his worries, takes them home to his empty loft with its quiet rooms, and licks his wounds in silence.

Commentary: Okay, so, I think I've read this one before... and I can't remember if it's like quality or what it is... but imma leave it for you to figure out, cause there's a lot of other ones that I wanna read for you to make sure they're good, so... read at own risk!

Commentary: So, this was the one where he had a kid, and like, man, dad!buck was a thing I didn’t know I needed that much, but apparently I did, cause man I love it so much! Also, now I really wanna read more dad!buck kid!fic’s, preferably where like Buddie is together, and they want another kid, and so they decide to do surrogacy with Buck this time, and like, have most of what happens in this fic happen, but with some additions to it that I wished they added, with there being more Christopher being a big brother... anyhow, read it! It’s very good and adorable!!!

22k - 6/6 Chapters
Commentary: Right, read it, and like it’s good, but the writer said herself that she was thinking of continuing it (But she has yet to do so) so though it has an ending to it, it’s not really a resolved one... more like a very very open-ended one... So again, read at your own risk.

Stay
Buck’s voice was soft and hesitant, but full of patience when he finally spoke again. “Did I do something to upset you, Chris? I can leave—”
“No!” Chris whirled on him, a complete shift from the standoffish vibe he had been giving a second ago. The tears he bravely held back finally broke free from his eyes, sliding down his rosy cheeks from behind his glasses. He shook his head vehemently, the yellow crayon falling to the table. “No, I’m not mad. Please…” His words turned to whimpers, his lip trembling. “Please don’t leave me too.”
31k  -  10/10 Chapters
Commentary: This was the one I linked you too on messenger. It has like a minor supernatural element to it, that they don’t warn you about, cause it’ll like spoil it, but it should not make you shy away from it, because it’s a thing that makes the story fits so well together and makes it so heartbreaking and good! So yeah, check it out, and be prepared for the angst!

All Bets are Off
"Enough!" Bobby sighed, he pinched the bridge of his nose, obviously exhausted. "Alright, I'm gonna need everyone to be completely straight with each other from here on out. No more fighting. Okay?"
Hen rolled her eyes but nodded. "Okay Cap."
"I'm always straight." Eddie called defensively.
Bobby's mouth opened to respond when they heard a strangled chain of coughing behind them. When they turned, they saw Chimney, choking on a bagel.
"Oh man…" Chimney coaxed through his wheezing. "That's the biggest lie you ever told."
Or, the five times the firefam realized Buck and Eddie were in love, and the one-time Eddie finally did something about it.
35k  -  6/6 Chapters
Commentary: So it’s a 5+1, but it’s a lengthier one than the other one, and it’s so good! It’ll both satisfy your buddie need, but also your Bobby being a father to Buck need!! And like a lot of other good stuff, so yeah, should definitely give this a go

Commentary: Now, this is a two part story, I'll add the summary for both parts.
Part 1:
Evan Buckley left his past behind when he left home for good at age 19. But an unexpected phone call on a quiet shift disrupts the life he's built for himself: forcing him to confront his past in order to build a new future.
Part 2:
It was fall at the 118. That was supposed to mean pumpkin spice lattes, Athena’s world-famous pumpkin pie, and the yearly tradition of getting bullied by children at the annual firehouse trick-or-treating.
Instead, it was a disastrous cornucopia of Maddie’s pregnancy, the Buckley parents visiting, and a sexuality crisis for good measure.
Oh, and?
It was wildfire season.

just stay for a moment & heal with me | brightwell (post 1x10)
dani reunites with malcolm after his kidnapping.
this fic is based off the song All of the Love in the World by Lily Kershaw. I fell in love with it and it's literally brightwell and now I'm emotional!!!
read here on ao3 | word count: 3.2k
Dani woke up to her phone ringing on her nightstand. She grumbled, knowing full well she put her phone on do not disturb before she fell asleep. The moonlight coming in from her window allowed her to see in the darkness as she fumbled for her phone, answering it without even checking the caller ID.
“We got him,” Gil’s voice came through before she could even say anything. “Malcolm…we…we got him.” His voice was full of emotion, as though he couldn’t believe it himself.
She shot up like a light, suddenly fully awake. Her hand shook as she gripped the phone. “What…what? Is he...” she couldn’t bring herself to say it. “Where? How?”
“He’s alive, but it’s not looking good Dani,” Gil’s voice cracked. “Just…get here, to the hospital.”
Dani had never obeyed an order so quickly as soon as Gil hung up the phone, presumably calling JT or Edrisa. She nearly fell out of bed, rushing to her dresser to throw on a pair of jeans and an old college T-shirt. Her mind was racing in a thousand different directions. They got him. They got him…They saved him.
It had been six weeks since Malcolm disappeared, taken by the Junkyard Killer. Six weeks of Dani crashing on the couch at the station, of Gil and Jessica fighting, of JT not cracking a single joke. Six weeks of Ainsley bringing coffee for the team on her way to work every morning and Edrisa bringing homemade desserts every other night. Six weeks of exhausting every resource, every lead, every interview, and they always came up with nothing. For six weeks, Dani had never felt so alone.
Malcolm Bright came into her world unexpectedly, crashing into her life like a hurricane. At first, she didn’t know what to make of him. Here was the son of The Surgeon, one of the world’s worst serial killers, brought onto a case without any clarification from her colleagues. Within hours of meeting he was in her arms waking up from the worst nightmare she had ever seen someone go through. She frantically caught him as he held a person’s hand in a cooler after a bomb had gone off in a building. She made sure he stayed alive the night he accidentally got high, admitting to him more about her past than she had ever planned on sharing.
That was the night she started to feel things for Malcolm Bright, but she’d never admit that. The night he told her she could trust him, and the night she decided to let him in.
Then he was gone.
The drive to the hospital was the longest drive of her life. It was raining but Dani didn’t think about running back inside for an umbrella. At 2 am the only thing on her mind was Malcolm. An ambulance passed her apartment complex as she was walking to her car, and her heart stopped. The chances of it being Malcolm were next to nothing as she knew darn well Gil would have a police escort to the hospital, but it still made her pause. It still made her heart drop as the rain fell on her.
The street lights felt like spotlights as she drove. Each one highlighting a different part of her short time with Malcolm Bright. She smiled to herself as she remembered when Malcolm brought her tea, or when he told her that her hands were too cold. She didn’t bring gloves and knew JT would tell her she’d get hypothermia, but she didn’t turn back. Her hands were cold and all she wanted was Malcolm to get the chance to tell her that one more time.
She parked badly but didn’t stick around long enough to check. She followed the sounds of sirens to the back of the hospital, to the ambulance entrance. She recognized Gil helping Jessica and Ainsley out of a police car, no doubt he sent an officer to pick them up.
“Gil!” She called, running to catch up to them. She was out of breath by the time she reached them, Jessica putting her arms out to steady her. In the past six weeks, Jessica and Ainsley Whitly had become something of a family to her, another part of Malcolm’s life she never thought would intertwine with her own.
“Dani, where’s your umbrella?” Ainsley asked. Dani shook her head.
“Where is he?” She asked as they walked into the ER. There were cops everywhere.
“They flew him in about a half-hour ago, he’s in surgery,” Gil explained. A helicopter meant things were serious…it meant Malcolm didn’t have a lot of time left.
“Where was he? What happened?” Dani knew she was still shaking, but she wasn’t sure if it was the adrenaline or the cold.
Gil pulled her and Ainsley aside as Jessica spoke to doctors across the room. “I need to prepare Jessica and Ainsley for this, but I meant what I said on the phone, it’s not good.” He gestured for Ainsley to step aside. She refused.
“Gil,” she protested. If Dani had learned anything about the Whitly family in the past six weeks, they all were extremely stubborn and resilient. Asking Ainsley to walk away would be asking Malcolm to walk away from a homicide case. It wouldn’t happen.
Gil stared at the two for a moment before nodding. “We found him about two hours north of here, in the middle of nowhere in a cabin. Watson was shot on scene after he attempted to shoot at officers. Malcolm was in the basement.”
“What was his condition?” Ainsley asked.
“He…he was barely conscious. I got to him first and he was dehydrated, starved, and badly injured. There was…a lot of blood. He was holding on for us, and when they prepared to take him to the hospital...” he trailed off.
“He what?” Dani asked. When Gil didn’t answer she raised her voice and asked again, “What happened?”
Nothing could have prepared her for when Gil said the words, “His heart stopped.”
Suddenly, Ainsley had dropped into the chair behind her. Dani was frozen, stuck standing in what felt like hell. This had to be hell because what could be worse than this? She didn’t even realize she was crying until she felt a teardrop.
“No,” she mumbled. “He didn’t die, he’s…he’s in surgery. He’s going to be fine, right? Gil, please tell me he’s going to be fine.”
“Dani, I can’t promise anything…you know that.”
“I should’ve been there!” She argued. “I should’ve been with him! Why didn’t you take me with you? Why’d you send me home tonight?”
“It was a long shot, Dani, you’re too close to this. The FBI said they didn’t want any of us there, I fought tooth and nail just to override that for myself. I did my best, but I knew it was better to not disappoint you again in case we came home empty-handed.”
“But you didn’t come home empty-handed,” her voice broke. “Gil…I can’t…” she sobbed, feeling Ainsley’s arm pulling her down into the chair next to her.
“Dani,” she started. “He’s going to be fine, he held on for us, remember that. He held out until we got him, now we have to hold on for him.”
Dani nodded, looking up when she heard footsteps entering the room. JT and his wife came in, both looking frantic and confused. Both were speaking to Gil in hushed tones, probably not to alert Jessica. Dani knew Gil would tell her in a few minutes, but wanted to spare her the pain for as long as possible. JT came to her, pulling her into his arms, and Dani let herself cry.
Malcolm was in surgery for eight hours. Gil broke the news to Jessica about Malcolm’s heart stopping, and Dani feared she’ll never forget the sound of Jessica Whitly’s heart shattering. Gil and JT did their best to comfort her, reminding her that Malcolm was still alive, just as Ainsley had to remind Dani. Regardless, his heart had stopped. They got there in time, but was it enough?
Dani paced the halls of the ER for the first few hours until Edrisa showed up around 4 am. She took one look at Dani and shuffled her and Ainsley out the door to the nearest 24 hour Starbucks down the street. Together the three of them sat and watched the sunrise, as the city woke up and began their day. Cars honking, people running in for coffee before work, even doctors from the hospital coming between their shifts.
“How can the world still be going?” Ainsley had asked at one point, her eyes not leaving her coffee cup. “How are they so oblivious to what’s happening?” Her voice was so quiet, it reminded Dani that even though she was hurting, Ainsley was hurting more. She was still Malcolm's baby sister, the one who saw his night terrors first hand and slept on the floor of his room when they were children. Dani didn’t say anything, but Edrisa reached over and took Ainsley’s hand.
They got back to the hospital around 7 am, not even realizing they had spent the past three hours in a coffee shop. Dani felt guilty but also knew the fresh air was good for her. They had brought back breakfast for everyone else, even though Ainsley had begged Jessica to go with them, knowing it was no use. The ER was different, a shift change meant new nurses and new doctors, new families waiting for their loved ones. A doctor had come out at one point, briefing Jessica and Gil about something Dani didn’t understand. Something to do with his brain activity and that was all she needed to force herself not to listen anymore.
Malcolm was out of surgery at 10 am.
By some miracle, his heart kept beating. The next 12 hours were critical for his brain, but things were looking positive. A doctor had the group moved into a private waiting area in the hospital as Malcolm was taken to be admitted to the ICU. He had a punctured lung, a few broken ribs, and had wounds on his abdomen causing him to bleed out, most likely from a knife of some sort. His lack of oxygen and his heart working to make up for the lost blood is what put him in the cardiac arrest.
Right now, Malcolm needed blood and a lot of it. The critical part was until Malcolm woke up, there was no way to tell how much damage was done to his brain during his arrest.
Dani refused to go home and change, let alone leave the waiting room. Jessica, Ainsley, and Gil went into the ICU first, not wanting to overwhelm Malcolm or the nurses. The doctors were slowly taking him off the sedation medication, but the time it would take him to fully wake up would at least be a few days. Regardless,
Dani knew she was here for the long haul, regardless of the circumstances.
Ainsley came back around thirty minutes after she had gone into the ICU. Her eyes were red and her face was stained with tears. Her normally curled blonde hair was falling out of the messy bun she had it in when she arrived, and Malcolm’s old college sweatshirt looked as though she had been chewing on the sleeves from her nerves. She sat down in the chair next to Dani, tucking her feet under her.
“How is he?” JT asked after a moment of silence. Ainsley took a deep breath, fiddling with the sleeves of Malcolm’s sweatshirt.
“He’s on a lot of morphine,” she started. “The nurse said he could potentially hear us talking to him, but he wasn’t reacting to anything Mom or Gil were saying,” she wiped tears from her eyes. “They aren’t giving him any more sedation medication, so he could start waking up in a few hours or as long as a week.”
“How are his injuries?” Edrisa asked, sipping her coffee.
“It’s hard to tell. The doctors decided he didn’t need to be on a ventilator because he never crashed during surgery and his heart rate was able to maintain normal levels once they started the blood transfusion. The nurse who changed his bandage on his stomach said it looked better already compared to when he came in, but he isn’t out of the woods yet. Not until we know his brain function.”
“Go see him, Dani,” JT said. Dani shook her head.
“Family only,” she muttered, nodding to Ainsley. “It’s okay, I don’t mind.”
“Gil pulled strings. We all can’t go in together until he’s out of ICU, but I can sneak you in Dani.” Ainsley stood up. “He’ll want to hear your voice.”
Dani had never been in an ICU. It was a small unit with nurses at every turn. Code blue machines were parked in the hall, ready to go at a moment’s notice. Dani noticed one was outside Malcolm's room as they went in. Gil and Jessica had stepped out of the room when she and Ainsley arrived.
Dani covered her mouth with her hand to hold in her cries when she saw Malcolm. He looked so vulnerable, so broken lying in that hospital bed. He was connected to too many machines to count, one for his oxygen, one for his heart, and one for monitoring his brain function. Ainsley nudged her so she’d walk into the room.
“He might hear you if you talk to him,” she muttered, before stepping out herself.
Tentatively, Dani walked towards the bed. If you took away all the machines, Malcolm just looked as though he was sleeping. He had a bandage on his forehead, one on his chin, and Dani knew the rest were under his hospital gown. The only sounds in the room were the machines, and Dani was so grateful to hear the heart machine. It meant he was here, that he was alive.
He was home.
She moved to walk around the bed, but her hand brushed his. She pulled back…he was so cold.
“Your…your hands are cold,” she said, forcing her voice not to break. She stared at him for a moment waiting for him to blink, to smile, to laugh, even though she knew he still had the sedation medication in his system. Gently, Dani put his hand in her own, careful not to pull on his IV. She tucked it under the blanket. The nurses would have to access his IV for medication, but for now, Dani wanted him to be warm. He needed to be warm.
Malcolm woke up three days later.
Even though she wanted it to, life didn’t stop. Dani was needed at the station and was grateful Gil had placed her and JT on desk duty while Malcolm was in the hospital. It wasn’t safe for them to be in the field when their minds were somewhere else.
Dani had gotten into a routine of going to the hospital after work, meaning that during the day she was going stir crazy sorting through case files that needed to be digitalized. On day three, she had enough. She told Gil she was taking a sick day, and he had smiled at her knowingly, gesturing his head in the direction of the hospital.
Dani stopped at home to grab another book and a coffee. It felt like a lifetime ago when she and Malcolm had gotten into the topic of reading and Malcolm had a list of book recommendations at the tip of his tongue. Most were about serial killers, not surprisingly, but Dani had taken note anyways. She didn’t look at the list while he was gone, but now had a small pile of books on Malcolm’s hospital nightstand that she had read. When everyone stepped out to speak with doctors, Dani even read out loud to him.
She wasn’t expecting Ainsley to run at her when she entered the ICU. Dani panicked, what happened? What went wrong?
“He’s awake!”
It took Dani a moment to process what Ainsley said. “What…what?”
“Apparently it happened last night. My mom didn’t call me because she wanted me to sleep, but I found out when I got here this morning. He’s been responding to us most of the day, but sometimes he struggles, especially because his body has been through so much. They’re going to sedate him so he can sleep without night terrors tonight because they don’t want him to hurt himself.” Ainsley let out a huge breath, having said all of that without pausing.
“But…” Dani shook her head. “His brain? It’s fine?”
“It looks like it, physically anyways,” Ainsley’s voice softened. “He isn’t talking about anything he’s been through; he just stops talking if we come close to mentioning it. Even if I tell him about things that have happened while he was…missing…he stops.” She shrugged, crossing her arms. “It’s more than I expected to be honest,” she looked back at his hospital room. “He’s been asking for you. I’m going to call my mom,” she patted Dani on the shoulder on her way out of the ICU.
It took Dani longer than she’d like to admit to getting her legs moving towards Malcolm’s room. Once she had processed everything Ainsley had said, she nearly sprinted to his room at the end of the hall.
Malcolm was watching something on the television, the curtains of his room pulled back to let the light in. He was sitting up in bed and once he heard her, his eyes turned to Dani. As soon as their eyes met, Dani knew she was going to cry again. She rushed to his bedside.
“Hey,” she smiled softly, not wanting to overwhelm him. God, she missed those blue eyes. She gently sat herself in the chair next to his bed, fully prepared for
Malcolm to ignore her when he turned back to the TV.
“You said my hands were cold,” he whispered. Dani wasn’t sure if it was the mental or physical trauma that made him speak so quietly.
She wiped her tears with her sleeve. “You heard me,” she murmured.
He nodded. “You read to me…it was nice.” She moved to cover his hand with her own. He wasn’t cold anymore.
His eyes found her own. “Thank you for finding me.” It was the first time he acknowledged the past six weeks.
“That was all Gil…I wasn’t there,” Dani felt the guilt build in her stomach. She bit her lip to stop herself from breaking down in front of him.
“You were,” he murmured, a tear falling down his face. “You were always with me.” He had visibly relaxed since she had entered the room, and his hand that was in hers held on tight, as though he was afraid she’d let go. She didn’t.
He was silent for a while and Dani assumed he had fallen asleep. She muted the TV and with one hand, awkwardly reached in her bag for the book she brought. She looked up to see that Malcolm’s eyes had met her own once more.
“Can you read it out loud?” He asked.
Dani nodded, reaching with her arm to brush the hair out of his face. “Yeah, I can.”
Malcolm smiled softly and drifted off to sleep. Thirty minutes later, that’s how Jessica and Gil found them: Malcolm with his hand in Dani’s, her head in his lap, with the book half opened, both sleeping soundly.

—XANDAR—
“Yo, Groot! Keep up! If you run into another wall because of that damn game, I'm recording it and showing it to Drax.”
“I am Groot.” The tree spat without looking up from the small screen.
We strode across the open pavilions of the Nova capitol. The city was magnificent; bright squares, water fountains, massive spirals of buildings. It had a futuristic tinge to it—like Star Trek, but I couldn't remember what that was.
“Have you ever tried replacing that thing with a book?” I asked.
Rocket gave me a weird look. “What's a book?”
My eyes widened and I looked away without a word. Rocket had a certain feel to him...a passive aggressiveness. But he cared. All of the snide comments, the special attention he took to Groot, it was because Rocket cared. I could work with that.
“Isn't there anything else you're interested in, sweetie?” I looked over at Groot.
He barely glanced up from his machine. “I am Groot.”
“Woah! Have some respect, young man! When we get back to the ship, I'm rinsing your mouth out with a bar of soap,” Rocket’s lip curled up in disgust. “No more spending time on Uncle Quill’s screens.”
“I am Groot!”
Rocket translated, “Oh, that's true. He likes cheesecake. But cheesecake ain’t gonna redeem you for what you said.”
I shrugged as we started to ascend the ramp. We had a marvelous view of the square, and the pools of water shimmering like a blanket of diamonds under the heat of two suns. Two shadows instead of one followed me up the slope instead of one.
I pressed a finger to my lip. “Cheesecake is good. There’s got to be other things that you like...have you ever thought of starting an environmental awareness club or something?”
“I am Groot.”
“Wait, you did? Drax ate the berries you invited? That's rude.” Rocket said.
We stopped at the front of a building.
I shielded my face from the sweltering orbs in the sky. “So what are we doing here?”
“Negotiations, kinda. We meet with the Ravagers every now and then, show off the cool junk we got, exchange information.” Rocket replied.
I walked in beside him, followed by the sounds of Groot’s video game. The inside was dark and full of neon lights. We ended up at a booth in the corner; Rocket insisted that Groot was too young for the bar.
I crossed my legs beneath the table and felt my shoulders straighten—I must’ve done it a lot, before. It felt natural, even though it seemed too professional. Groot’s game continued to make imitations of explosions.
“Mute that thing, would ya?” Rocket snapped. “Jeez, should’ve given you Quill’s headphones.”
I glanced over at the screen. Groot’s console shone bright against the windowless room. “What are you playing?”
“I am Groot.”
Rocket made a face. “Some stupid game called ‘Galaga.’ Quill and his stupid human crap…”
I leaned over. “If you use your branches to hold it up, maybe it’ll be easier to use the controls with your fingers.”
“Don't encourage him!” Rocket complained.
A waiter came over with crystals for teeth and neon-colored hair. Rocket ordered a few drinks and a slice of cheesecake for Groot. Groot took my advice and angled the screen so I could watch.
“You’re really good,” I said, impressed. “He is awesome at this, did you teach him, Rocket?”
“I am Groot.”
“You learned it from me…? You watch me when I'm flying the ship,” There was a crack of emotion in Rocket’s voice.
“I am Groot.” He offered me the controller.
My eyes widened. He barely looked up from the game since I’d arrived. Now his tawny eyes stared into mine, warm and tender against the exotic streaks of color across the room.
“Thank you, I don't think I’ll get anywhere near your high score though. What do I press again?” Groot pointed out the right buttons and the screen came to life. Little dots started flying around the screen.
—AVENGERS COMPOUND, 2018—
“Get that one—yes yes yes!” Thor’s arms tightened around me from behind as I pressed the buttons on the controller.
“You get so excited when we play this, it's adorable,” I smiled as Dragon Age: Inquisition came to a cutscene.
“I love spending time with you,” Thor replied, pressing a kiss on my neck, “and killing demons together—” another kiss, “and fighting dragons together.” his beard tickled my collarbone.
“ Honey ! We have company.” I hissed, resisting a smile as he nuzzled into my neck.
“It’s cool, Ms. Angie. You guys are like my OTP,” Ned was a friend of Peter Parker’s, who sat on the loveseat next to him with the other controller. “Besides Wanda and Vision—but I'm still upset that Clintasha never happened.”
Parker’s face scrunched up. Shuri was sitting down by the coffee table, eyes trained on the screen. She could probably solo everything, but for now, we were kept around as a few disposable lackeys. “Templar Ned of the Silver! Get your head in the game! Chaplain Korg of the Seven Kingdoms, diverge on that lava demon!”
Thor’s new friend from space made of rocks overpowered the other half of the couch, while the caterpillar-like creature Meep curled up in the armchair.
“Hey Thor, can we vote in Admiral Shuri of Dragonstone as our new Asgardian general? I think she’d be good for the job,” Korg replied. A loose pebble fell from his shoulder when he talked.
“Keep up the pace, ladies! You’re making the picture of Agent Carter in my room cry!”
“Hmm. We’ll consider it,” Thor’s lips brushed against my ear. “What do you think, Khaleesi?”
“I think Shuri would overthrow you and take the throne.” I admitted. As I muttered the words, Shuri let out a battle cry as the screen exploded with light.
Thor nodded. “Fair enough.”
Shuri shot up from the ground, waving her controller in the air. “Victory, peasants! Yes!”
I was suddenly buried in a tidal wave of muscle as Thor peppered me with kisses. I couldn't help laughing. “Thor, stop it—”
—*—
I looked up from Groot’s game. “This is so cool—you should show it to Rocket, I'm sure he’d love to know how to play.”
I returned the game back to Groot. Rocket shot me something close to a thankful look as Groot scooted closer to him and started pointing at the screen.
What's an OTP? And who the hell is Templar Ned of the Silver?
I thought about the faces that had flashed through my mind, grasping at the memory before it could be locked away with the rest. I mulled over them for some time until the table shook.
I looked up. A thin man dressed in red leather sneered with crooked teeth from the other side of the booth.
“Kraglin,” Rocket greeted him as he leaned back on the seat.
“ ‘Ey Fuzzy. Where’s Quill?” Kraglin glanced at me. “And who’s the fairy?”
“Quill is busy.” Rocket rolled his eyes as if it were an obvious question.
“Doin’ what?”
“Grocery shopping. He pulled the shortest stick,” Rocket snapped.
“And the fairy?” Kraglin’s hair was piled up on the top of his head, topped with some kind of red attachment. It was like he added the extra inches on purpose, to appear more intimidating.
“Fairy?” I asked.
“Yeah. You got the face of one—like those elvy dudes on Alfheim,” Kraglin’s eyes narrowed with skepticism.
“This is our new recruit. Found her floating around in the middle of nowhere.” Rocket answered.
Kraglin nodded. He glanced down at the table when he asked another question, “Did...did Nebula get that hat I sent ‘er?”
“I am Groot.”
“We know, you have a low opinion of hats.” Rocket sighed at Groot.
“It's not a hat. It's a beanie,” Kraglin said defiantly.
“What the hell’s a beanie?”
“Something soft you put on your head!” Kraglin’s hands crumpled into fists on the table. “Did she like it?”
“How the hell should I know! Nebula hates everything. Enough with the interrogation, already.” Rocket stood on the cushions so he was eye level with Kraglin. “What do ya got?”
Kraglin started to admire the tips of his gloves. “The Ravagers got some shiny things...some secrets too.”
“Shiny things?” Rocket leaned forward, greed glinting in his eyes.
“What secrets?” I asked politely.
“Forget the intel! Show us the goods!” Rocket complained.
From the look on Kraglin’s face, the “goods” weren't as good as he claimed. I tried to think—I didn't have much to work with. I still barely knew the Guardians, and even if I did have my old memories, there was nothing valuable about them.
Except for what Peter told me…
“You’re speaking to someone who keeps a bomb in a box.” I said, straightening in my seat as I felt all eyes on me. “The Guardians already have a fine collection of shiny things.”
“Collections can always grow,” Rocket pointed out.
“Secrets can be more valuable, and lead to other shiny things.” I said. My voice stayed light and calm and neutral—it was activated on instinct. “From what I’ve gathered in the time I’ve spent with the Guardians, the Ravagers are one of our closest contacts.”
“Contacts?” Kraglin shot Rocket a shocked expression.
“It's a big galaxy. We have friends in high places. But we will not deny our close relations with the Ravagers,” I finally leaned forward, capturing Kraglin with my eyes. “If you tell us what we need to know, the Ravagers may benefit greatly. Our victories are our traders’ victories.”
I had managed to capture Groot’s attention away from his game again. Rocket and Groot gaped at me. Part of me was shocked: someone taught me how to bargain. Not even that: I could slay with words. Was I a politician?
Kraglin struggled for words across the table, “Yeah, but…”
He already gave me the leverage to seal the deal. “I’m sure our other companions, including Nebula, would be grateful for your contribution.”
Kraglin sat there for a minute, his foot tapping underneath the table. Then he caved. “Alright. We got some shiny things, but we found somebody… a shiny man.”
Rocket and I exchanged a look. “There’s some rumors about him. He’s been sniffin’ around the galaxy. Don't know what he's up to...but he may be guardin’ a heap of units somewhere. Or he’s lookin’ for one. Either way, we get the feelin’ that there’s some money in that lead.”
Rocket whistled. “We hit the jackpot! This is better than any casino I've ever been to.”
Kraglin unfolded a piece of paper from his jacket pocket and slid it over the table to me. When I reached for it, he caught my gaze.
“Be careful with that lead. There’s a reason us Ravagers haven't pursued it ourselves. And tell Nebula…” He swallowed and glanced at the counter. “Tell ‘er that ‘er nails look pretty.”
I nodded, finding myself smiling sweetly as I handed the slip to Rocket. He kissed the paper and stuffed it into his suit.
Kraglin stood from the booth and nodded to us. “Looks like you lucked out there, Fuzzy.”
“Damn right I did.”
Kraglin looked at me. “I wasn't talkin’ about the lead.”

I found an unfinished KI fanfic from my computer and some stuff in it was pretty funny
“It’s hard to get any friends when you’re only angel around...”
“And what about Dark Pit? Is he currently unobtainable or something?”
“Well, he doesn’t want to fight right now, so... I guess he is.”
- Pit and Palutena
“Saltwater springs do indeed exist.”
“They do?!”
“Didn’t you just say you found one?”
-  Palutena, Pit and Dark Pit
“Hah! I only speak the truth and if Palutena thinks she’s so much better than me, she should come down here and challenge me herself!”
“... Challenge accepted, mortal.”
-  Arachne and Palutena
“It’s not like you have to. Dad never told mother about Dionysus and it turned out fine.”
“Palutena, mother killed Dionysus when she found out where father was keeping him and his heart had to sewed to father so he could be born again...”
“... You know what? You’re right. That was a terrible example.”
-  Palutena and Ares
“Hey! I thought this was about your daughter, not about that who has the biggest harem or horde of children.”
 -  Palutena
“I don’t know what responsible parents do!”
-  Ares
“You youngsters, always bored because there’s supposedly nothing to do...”
“You’re getting old, auntie Palutena.”
“You take that back!”
-  Palutena and young Nike
“You truly are a one big softie when it comes to your children, aren’t you?”
 -  Palutena
“Are you sure this isn’t about that golden apple? Because it sure does sound like it is...”
“Shut up.”
-  Hermes and Palutena
“You know what Discordia? You take your job way too seriously.”
“When I’m with you, the job practically does itself.”
“I hate you.”
“That’s a one strong word, Palutena! You can’t truly mean that, insulting your own dear sister like that-”
“You caused that problem in the first place!”
 -  Palutena and Eris, who’s referred by her Roman name
“Who’s Pyrrha?”
“... Please tell me you’re joking.”
-  Palutena and Pandora
“I did always found it weird that he just came out of nowhere. I should’ve guessed that dad was on it again.”
 -  Palutena
“My snakes are much cuter than hers.”
“... He sure lives up to his name.”
“He’s not wrong.”
-  Erichthonius, Medusa and Palutena
“What happened to our sweet baby brother?”
“... I was killed. Do you really need more reasons?!”
“Fine then, don’t tell.”
 -  Palutena and young Dionysus
“How was your day?”
“I must say auntie, I didn’t expect to save so many people from their own stupidity today.”
-  Palutena and Phobos
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, maybe you could make an argument about his hair resembling that of a black-maned lion. They too seem to have a horrible case of root growth.”
-  Palutena and Deimos about Phobos
“I’m not going there alone Lucina. And don’t forget that I’m smart.”
“Palutena, you know that’s highly debatable.”
 -  Palutena and Eileithyia, who’s referred by her Roman name
“And what’s Poseidon going to do? Put me on a trial?”
-  Ares
“That rings hollow considering that dad isn’t your only brother. And it’s not like my aunts are all that smart either.”
“Are you insulting me?”
“Maybe.”
 -  Nike and Palutena
“For the last time, I’m not going to do your dirty job! Get rid of your mother yourself!”
-  Viridi to Phosphora
“You do have some experience about killing giants, don’t you?”
 -  Palutena about to make Artemis cry
“What’s that in your hair?”
“It’s dried blood.”
“But why-”
“Oh, there’s luxury urns with hot springs and rivers in them? Well, apparently giants can only afford cheap knock-offs then!”
-   Palutena and Ares
“Why you’re acting like this?”
“Oh shut up you old hag, you’re not my mother!”
 -  Viridi and Aphrodite
“All this happened because of her?!”
“She’s my mother. I couldn’t let them hurt her!”
“She caused this mess! Why are you protecting her!?”
“...You know what? Fine! It’s not like you understand any of it because you never had a mother! You could never understand the bond between parent and child!”
-  Palutena and Ares
“Bath bomb!”
“Brainfart!”
“Traffic-light-eyed freak!”
“... Is this why childhood is important?”
-  Palutena, Aphrodite and Hermes
“So sweetie, could you please explain why you don’t like Viridi?”
“Apollo told me she’s going to ruin my wedding!”
-  Palutena and young Harmonia
“What’s the point of having wings if they’re useless?!”
“Sweetie, it’s because you haven’t learn to fly yet. All you need is practice.”
“I have to do what?”
-  Palutena and young Adrestia
“I don’t know how to read yet.”
“Don’t worry, sometimes I think your father doesn’t know that either.”
-  young Adrestia and Palutena
“And why do you think so?”
“Because unlike you, I have every-man-appeal.”
-  Palutena and Aphrodite
“That has a lot of sexual energy in it. Are you sure these are for warfare?”
“I knew you were a freak Palutena, but what made you think that anyone would ever use bows and clubs in bedroom?”
-  Palutena and Aphrodite
Why is that import god still here?!”
-  Apollo about Pyrrhon
“Can things get any worse?!”
“I founded a city and got married!”
 -  Viridi and happy-go-lucky-drunk Dionysus
“Your descendants don’t count as your children.”
“Pothos and Himeros are my sons.”
“... Fine, you win this round.”
-  Palutena and Ares
“How did he manage to fit Thanatos into that small box?”
“Really? That’s what you’re wondering?”
-  Ares and Palutena
“Angels aren’t allowed to get married, is that right?”
“What? Of course not! What made you think that?”
“Well... Actually, now when I’m thinking about it... Nobody would want to marry Adrestia anyway.”
-  young Harmonia and Palutena
“What’s scarier than a bomb?”
“According to your sister, sex is.”
“Things like these are why I don’t understand what Cadmus sees in her.”
 -  Deimos and Palutena
“You look a lot like their deceased son.”
“... What?”
-  Palutena and Dark Pit
“Young lady, explain this blasphemy right now!”
“She pays me better. It makes everything much easier.”
“For the last time, it’s not my job to pay for you!”
-  Palutena and Adrestia
“He’s adorable. What’s his name?”
“As if I would tell that to you, brainfart.”
-  Palutena and Aphrodite
“Hey! If you’re dumb enough to throw a tortoise, it’s your fault if it hits you on the head and you die.”
“But who threw the tortoise?”
“Hawks. They do that on a daily basis!”
“But they can’t throw, only drop...”
“And I saw when a hawk dropped a tortoise which lead to a death of a philosopher. Nature is scary.”
 -  Zephyr and Pit
“I have two girlfriends because I’m a better lover than certain others.”
“If that’s so, what about-”
“He’s a playboy.”
-  Zephyr and Palutena
“Honestly, I’m surprised that this hasn’t happened before. I guess all you needed was little help from mortals.”
“That sounds so morbid when you put it like that...”
 -  Palutena and Pit
“What was he even doing?”
“My guess is that he tried to make Viridi proud, but got drunk.”
“Because of you?”
“He’s a danger to society when he’s sober!”
-  Palutena and Hermes
“Then be thankful you haven’t heard stories of certain gods or mortals.”
“Like who?”
“Trust me Pit, you don’t want to know.”
-  Palutena and Pit
“Oh, so when lions do it it’s ‘sad, but normal part of life and we shouldn’t interfere’ but when I do it to a city that stopped worshiping me, I’m abusing my powers?”
-  not-so-happy-go-lucky-drunk Dionysus
“Oh don’t you dare! I’m going to make you...”
“Make me what, suffer? You can’t kill me and even if you could, you wouldn’t be able to make it painful.”
“That’s it you little son of a-”
“Children, TIME OUT!”
-   Macaria, Phobos and Palutena
“I’m this close of sending him to Underworld.”
“Aren’t you overreacting a bit? He’s grieving...”
“And it’s getting on my nerves! He must get his fiancee back!”
“... A stone just dropped from my heart. Thank heavens.”
-  Apollo and Palutena
“Who names their child ‘breath of life?”
“It says ‘soul’, idiot.”
“You’re both wrong, it actually says ‘butterfly’. But they’re all practically the same thing so I don’t blame you for confusing those words.”
“Somebody isn’t telling the truth here.”
 -  Pit, Dark Pit and Palutena
“It wasn’t me! It was my body!”
-  Pit
“Hey! What do you think I am, a monster?!”
“Well, you do have six limbs...”
“I have six limbs?!”
“Palutena, did you teach him anything?!”
-  Pit and Apollo
“Lady Palutena, is he always this angry?”
“No, just when someone rejects him. He doesn’t take it well if people don’t like him.”
 -  Pit and Palutena
“You should be careful. Those sheep could kill you otherwise.”
“I figured it out myself. Do you have any advice that could be useful?”
“Well, there’s those thorn bushes there.”
 -  Dark Pit and Psyche
“That’s... Disturbing.”
“That’s rich coming from someone who locked a girl into a house full of invisible people.”
- Pit and Dark Pit
