I've been trying to learn how to draw over the last few months (primarily so I can draw Them), but I realized I haven't been posting my attempts to Tumblr, just Twitter, and that is a travesty :PSo here ya go! My most recent finished drawing! (Please be nice lol)

okay don’t get me wrong I love The Good Place and obviously it’s a fantastic piece of media, so this post is lighthearted and in good fun -- but no matter how many times I rewatch I STILL cannot get over how they spent 4 seasons talking about moral philosophy without:

1) So much as mentioning Benjamin Constant?? Despite Chidi’s idol being Immanuel fucking Kant??? I kept WAITING for him to bring it up because Constant was the philosopher who proposed the key counterargument to Kant’s rigid idealism, by posing a scenario in which a known serial killer comes to your door and asks where your friend is hiding so he can kill them. By Kantian ethics, it’d be more moral to tell him the truth, because lying is “always inherently wrong,” and he justified it by arguing you’re not responsible for what the killer does with that information.

This was like. Chidi’s main dilemma for most of the series and the source of most of his pain in life. Not to mention that rigid moral structure made his ethical decisions throughout the show Constant-ly Kantradictory. Someone get me in a room with him, I need to know how he’d respond to that thought experiment, dammit!!!

2) Ever exploring Sartre, when the show itself is CLEARLY based on the premise of Sartre’s play No Exit, in which 3 people are sent to Hell to live in one room together for eternity, selected to torture one another without knowing it, and it is torture because they consist of a lesbian who’s in love with the straight woman in love with the gay man. That play is the origin of the famous philosophical quote “Hell is other people.” There’s even an episode title that makes a pun on that phrase: “Help is Other People”!!! The perspective of the play is that prolonged emotional torture (especially inflicted via others in an exchange of mutual torment) is a worse pain than any physical torture could bring. Sound familiar?

i visited the library today!!

UNFORTUNATELY my mother forgot her library card so i wasn't able to check out anything.

FORTUNATELY there was a box of free shit right outside, and i took a book called Atomic Anna. it somehow involves nuclear science.

i haven't immersed myself in a new book for...quite a while, so i'll definitely make reference to it in some later posts.

having read about nuclear tests before, i can't help but remember even the smaller things the u.s. has gotten away with...

in the 1954 castle bravo bomb test, a 15-megaton nuclear weapon detonated on an atoll in the marshall islands.

there was an enormous fallout, leading to severe radiation sickness for the marshallese people and a crew of japanese fishermen.

even in "weak" forms, nuclear weapons truly terrify me.

the fact that only a handful of privileged countries control weapons of mass destruction should terrify everyone...

i'll end today's post with my acknowledgement and thanks to two anti-nuclear activists i learned about today:

HOLY SHIT OSCAR'S MUSIC STARTS PLAYING RIGHT WHEN THE PAPER SAID "MERGE WITH THE TREE" ON THE EXACT MOMENT RUBY FLINCHED AND KEPT PLAYING HIS MUSIC THE WHOLE TIME PAPER FELLA WAS TALKING ABOUT DEATH VS REBIRTH???? HOW HAS NO ONE NOTICED THIS I JUST WATCHED IT WHERE ARE THE POSTS?

AND THEN RUBY'S COMMENT AT BEING "SOOO HAPPY FOR YOU" TO HAVE WORKED THROUGH YOUR FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER, IN A MONOLOGUE CENTERED ON "WHAT ABOUT MY FEELINGS?"

Not to mention how much she sounded like Oscar, both as in his outburst in the Dojo scene (which we've all talked to death but this PARALLEL?), and just in the things she was saying. Stopping someone from trying to cheer them up, bluntly stating how bad things are, wanting to work through difficult feelings, etc....

And the orange pine trees right behind her. (Reach? Idk)

And the way her outburst in the Schnee dining room was immediately following Oscar saying "All of this doubt, and worry, and distrust, it isn't getting us anywhere." "Then nothing has changed! We're in the exact place we were yesterday! Fighting over what to do while the kingdom waits to die!"

And when he'd earlier said "And Ozpin is back" she pulled in her arms with a grumble, a movement which she also did the moment Oscar's music began following the PP mentioning "merging" with the tree... There is no way she isn't thinking about him there. You cannot convince me that music at that moment after that word was coincidence, you can't.

Ruby did EXACTLY what he did to her in the dojo scene by telling Blake, who was trying to cheer her up/unknowingly diminish her feelings -- to shut up /cutting her off. I always thought we'd get a Dojo Scene 2.0, but I always thought Oscar would be there when it happened.

I know we say "rosegarden canon" a lot but... y'all... rosegarden canon?

@ Whiterose shippers, I have a genuine question for you! Because I am a forgetful & curious cat :P

So I know there are several instances of Weiss opening up to Ruby and Ruby comforting her (which is super sweet and wholesome), but I'm struggling to recall an instance of Ruby opening up to Weiss? I feel like there's gotta be something at Beacon, at least, and I don't rewatch those volumes often.

More specifically, I mean like, have there been any heart-to-heart moments between the two of them where Ruby confides in her? I remember in v8 when Ruby says to the team, "It's all just... too much" Weiss puts a hand on her shoulder, but I'm thinking more along the lines of having a talk. Doesn't even have to be a full-on conversation or scene with just the two of them, I just... there HAS to be a moment I'm forgetting where Ruby opens up to Weiss in particular. Weiss did TRY to get her to open up about Penny in v9, but Ruby just silently turned and walked away from her.

This isn't meant negatively, btw! I just forget a lot, and keep seeing people who ship them say Weiss is Ruby's confidant, and it makes sense since ship or not, they are partners and bffs, so I figured y'all would know! <3
