#reproductive abuse

i frequent teacher Reddit and teacher TikTok and i just saw this horrifying TikTok from a woman saying her pregnancy was ended by a first grader and what’s even more disturbing is that other teachers in the comments seconded the fact their pregnancy was ended by a student hitting/kicking/punching/running into their stomach while it was known they were pregnant, and also that they felt they had to hide their pregnancy until it was impossible to because they knew they had a violent child in their elementary school class who would target this about them if they happened to become upset because they were very violent and psychopathic.
Honestly we don’t talk enough about the violence in many forms that women teachers experience from students and often specifically male students. Also that hitting, kicking, punching, or in any way targeting a woman’s stomach while she is pregnant is reproductive violence against women, and this is something that CANNOT happen to men or men cannot be targeted for.
Men can say oh a kid kicked me in the nuts is that not targeting me for being a man. And in my opinion the answer is no because that’s just targeted towards trying to be the most painful to the person and it happens that that’s where it is for a man, and while it is physical abuse it’s not reproductive targeting or abuse.
And also not only is the woman not pregnant anymore, it’s not like the fetus just reabsorbs and is gone, it likely sends this woman to the hospital and causes her to have a miscarriage, which most if not all miscarriages are deeply traumatizing and disturbing, not to mention they can be very painful if you are further along in your pregnancy.
I may not want to be a mother, but i will always speak up for and defend mothers.

Is it true that rhaegar didn't wanted to impregnate elia third time because he didn't wanted to put the life of elia in danger? I'm very new in asoiaf fandom but still I haven't read anything like that. In the book maestar simply told rhaegar after aegon that elia simply can't get pregnant again in the near future but still after that line why many people in this fandom saying that it was rhaegar who choose not to impregnate elia again.
Elia was never worthy of him. She was frail and sickly from the first, and childbirth only left her weaker. After the birth of Princess Rhaenys, her mother had been bedridden for half a year, and Prince Aegon's birth had almost been the death of her. She would bear no more children, the maesters told Prince Rhaegar afterward. (ADWD, The Griffin Reborn)
Combines with:
He shared my belief when he was young, but later he became persuaded that it was his own son who fulfilled the prophecy, for a comet had been seen above King's Landing on the night Aegon was conceived, and Rhaegar was certain the bleeding star had to be a comet. (AFFC, Samwell IV)
Given that Rhaegar valued his "three head" prophecy babies more than Elia's health already when jumping on her barely out of bedrest because he saw a light in the sky, it's fair to say that the part that motivated him was the "bear no more children" part, rather than any concern for her well-being. So he went and nabbed himself a teenaged girl to endanger next. After writing a letter to maester Aemon about it, of course, since he left pretty much right after Aegon was born, leaving an Elia who had barely escaped death by childbirth to recover without him. Priorities!

Here's the thing I don't get. Even if you, for some reason, think 'not taking away Feyre's joy' is a valid reason not to tell her that her pregnancy is going to kill her, Rhys is still a terrible person.
Why?
Because The Stupid Wing Thing is a known danger. Rhys knows about it. Cassian knows about it. Azriel knows about it.
And Rhys slept with Feyre with the purpose of conceiving a child with her that had a high likelihood of having the Illyrian wings that are apparently such a danger without telling her about it. For it to not have come up ever in this group of people where fully half have full time or part time Illyrian wings, there had to have been intent.
I am aware it's a retcon because Sarah Janet wanted drama. I am aware this is lack of skill or care on the author's part. She thinks her readers are stupid and won't notice blatant retcons or shit she added last minute. She's taking her fans for all she can get and okay sure, it's a capitalist hellscape, get your money I guess, but could you put a little thought into your craft? Because the RESULT is that Rhysand knowingly put his wife in mortal peril from the second he started putting his dick in her and knowingly kept the information from her so he could use her to breed an heir.
Feminist hero my ass. Feminist books my ass.

"Reproductive freedom is critical to a whole range of issues. If we can’t take charge of this most personal aspect of our lives, we can’t take care of anything. It should not be seen as a privilege or as a benefit, but a fundamental human right." — Faye Wattleton
"Women are not an interest group. They are mothers and daughters, and sisters and wives. They are half of this country and they are perfectly capable of making their own choices about their health." — Barack Obama
"No woman can call herself free who does not control her own body." — Margaret Sanger
"As a Christian and a feminist, the most important message I can carry and fight for is the sacredness of each human life, and reproductive rights for all women are a crucial part of that. It is a moral necessity that we not be forced to bring children into the world for whom we cannot be responsible and adoring and present. We must not inflict life on children who will be resented; we must not inflict unwanted children on society." — Anne Lamott
"Defending women’s health means defending access to abortion — not just in theory, but in reality. We know that restricting access doesn’t make women less likely to end a pregnancy. It just makes abortion less safe. And that then threatens women’s lives." — Hillary Clinton
"It is unthinkable to allow complete strangers, whether individually or collectively as state legislators or others in government, to make such personal decisions for someone else." — Sarah Weddington
"I believe feminism is grounded in supporting the choices of women even if we wouldn’t make certain choices for ourselves." — Roxane Gay
“You’re not really mad that I’m not having children.
In fact, I would probably love to one day.
You’re mad that I’m expressing autonomy of choice.
You’re mad that I’m considering other options.
You’re mad that I don’t view that as my ultimate potential.
You’re mad that I dare be selfish enough to make choices based on my best interest, something women are not supposed to do.
You’re mad that I consider it a choice, and that I, a woman, am exercising choice.
You’re not mad that I’m not having babies.
You’re mad because I’m acting like a man.” — Alice Minium
“Worse than aborting is birthing in instability.” — Abhijit Naskar
“Is having a child actually fundamentally bettering the world as a whole in any way? There is no shortage of children. Wouldn’t it be better to let people who want children have them, and leave everyone else alone?” — Alice Minium
“Until the state or the church takes full responsibility for a newborn, no bill or bible is qualified to even offer suggestions on a woman's right to abortion.” — Abhijit Naskar
“Only two things matter in the reproductive health debate: the medical opinions of doctors, and the will of women. Also, feminism is intricately connected with all aspects of our society, including health, but also labor and the economy. A woman can't be an equal player in our society until she has total autonomy, and that includes determining the destiny of her own body.” — Allison Kilkenny
“If the Constitution doesn’t say anything about a woman’s right to abortion, I’m damn sure it doesn’t say anything about the rights of the unborn.” — Israel Morrow

Finally got all the ducks in a row to start the process toward top surgery, but now all I can think about is, "should I use this money to try for a bi-salp instead??"
#please somebody tell me convincingly that i'm being outrageously paranoid even for the dystopian society we're living in now#I don't want to be afraid that within the next 20 years the GQP will find a way to corral everyone with a uterus for forcible insemination#but I'm legitimately afraid that any of us who don't get irreversibly surgically sterilized NOW will end up enslaved & used as incubators#like in that episode of battlestar galactica#not trek#personal log#american politics#us politics#politics#dystopia#america is being ruled by a hyperconservative minority#I've never had & pretty much never intend to have sex and yet this backwards fucking country has me worried that I might be impregnated#voluntary human extinction movement#thank you for not breeding#may we live long and die out#reproductive freedom#reproductive rights#reproductive abuse#top surgery#bilateral salpingectomy#sterilization#afab problems#nonbinary#welcome to new home aka scorched earth republican hellscape where no one but cisgender white male landowners will have any rights anymore#sorry i'm just completely saturated with despair right now totally immobilized by fear dread nausea worst-case horror/scifi scenarios etc#soul sick#jtkchu's brain#stfu jtkchu#keep thinking 'this is the writing on the wall & if I don't get sterilized NOW while I still CAN it'll be too late if things get that bad'#I no longer feel confident/secure in the belief that no matter how long I live I'll be left alone & 'allowed' to be single/childfree

It’s in their faces because nobody wants them
Almost every child would choose the poor woman
They will try to lure your own children away from you with money, and when I find that this is true, I promise you there will be some dead motherfuckers some of them work in the medical profession. There is no doubt in my mind, and I believe that Dr Brian is very very scared about this right now.
Honey, they took your testicles
I’m not sure why Mark lost his
And I don’t know what they do to veterinarians when they find them stealing children from children
Maybe they just have this delusion that only they can control things, even though they should know better those people are very sick in the head
I never gave any of you permission to my reproductive property
But I can promise you this if my child is living in your house, you will be murdered. I will be reunited with my baby and I’m not worried about how many people get killed. You should have thought of that before you stole babies from babies.
Yeah, but I think that some of the veterinarians actually have a delusion that they are somehow more in control of situations they have the least amount of control in
Probably something I am an expert at
Let’s go ahead and steal the children from medical doctors and veterinarians, since most of them are unfit

Could you imagine being trafficked and tortured for racist amusement?
Doesn’t matter if you recited. It’s not yours.
So that you can’t remember your mother and father.
Everything means child abuse to whites though
Tumblr media
The chucks don’t say that stuff anymore because they got caught with less.
Jealous morons who never should have been allowed life.
They were all nearly retarded
Every last one. Allen, Jenny, melody, etc.
They think torture is funny because they’re aware that they’re slow.
Reflection of the undereducated in usa

If Dennis had had a blood daughter, I would say she’d be sold into traffic and raped by him without knowing it was her daddy.
It’s what they do in Kentucky sometimes.
Just like the racist incest game? Yeah. Those drs and cops do deserve to be killed.
Kentucky doesn’t need your mockery, Arizona.
You’re nothing special and don’t lie. You guys are very shy sometimes because I see straight through you.

Let’s deal with the F grade hate Arizona.
My brothers flipping his wannabe shit.

"Under a Missouri statute that has recently gained nationwide attention, every petitioner for divorce is required to disclose their pregnancy status. In practice, experts say, those who are pregnant are barred from legally dissolving their marriage. “The application [of the law] is an outright ban,” said Danielle Drake, attorney at Parks & Drake. When Drake learned her then husband was having an affair, her own divorce stalled because she was pregnant. Two other states have similar laws: Texas and Arkansas."
"Missouri is particularly restrictive when it comes to reproductive health and autonomy. It was one of the first to ban abortion after Roe v Wade was overturned in 2022, including in cases of rape and incest. Research shows that abortion restrictions can effectively give cover to reproductive coercion and sexual violence: the National Hotline for Domestic Violence said it saw a 99% increase in calls during the first year after the loss of the constitutional right to abortion."
"Advocates are currently trying to gather enough signatures to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot that would make abortion legal until fetal viability, or around 24 weeks."
"In Missouri, homicide was the third leading cause of deaths in connection with pregnancy between 2018–2022, the majority (75%) of which occurred among Black women, according to a 2023 report by the Missouri department of health and senior services, which examines maternal mortality data. In every case, the perpetrator was a current or former partner. And in 2022, 23,252 individuals in the state received services after reporting domestic violence, according to the latest reporting from Missouri Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence, which compiles data from direct service providers in the state."
The dystopia we speak of -across many of issues that women and marginalized folks face is HERE already. This is terrifying.

Cut for grooooossneeeeess
I forgot that for some reason this society has decided that giving a girl sleeping pills and telling her to get literally fucked within the marriage program is the better option than artificial insemination
The book is entirely unaware of that, and in fact seems to be treating artificial insemination as the WORST option
Idk about other people with uteruses but if for some reason the population was the lowest in recorded history and we couldn't do pod babies or cloning, I'd pick artificial insemination before a convoluted marriage plan, not least because it would get shit on track quicker
(Literally one woman has had three husbands foisted upon her and allowed to divorce one before being out back in the program it makes no sense from a dystopian worldsaving standpoint)

Gee, vengeful abusive men using the new anti abortion laws to continue to control and torment their exes. Who couldn’t have seen that coming? Oh, right. *Everyone*.
The law says he can’t go after her (which he almost certainly would have) so he’s going after her friends instead, knowing how bad it’ll make her feel.
And he totally stole her phone. How else could he have gotten the screenshots?

This is a very very unfinished thought but I've been thinking a lot as I reread the books about how the women of House of the Dragon don't really get catharsis and how that'll likely be worse in S2. Say what you want about asoiaf but a number of named women there experience catharsis.
They kill their abusers (Lysa, Cersei, Dany). They regain some agency after a violation (Lysa, Cersei, Lady Stoneheart, Dany), and they refuse to forgive the people complicit in their subjugation (Lysa, Cersei, Dany, Lady Stoneheart, Jeyne Westerling).
Obviously, three or four isn't enough in such an expansive cast of characters but the point remains that they claw back their autonomy however they have to. They're allowed to be angry, bitter, unforgiving and cruel to their abusers in a way women in House of the Dragon just aren't allowed. They're allowed grief, grief that is violent and destructive.
The women of House of the Dragon don't get angry. They stand around and stare plaintively at the camera, they cry prettily, and they plead for peace and non-violence. They suffer and suffer and suffer and there's no relief.
