#personal autonomy
Note
I have a genuine question about youth lib
At what point would you give children similar autonomy rights like adults? Let’s for example take a relative of mine, they are pretty young, grade school age, and are still loosing their milk teeth. However one of them doesn’t want to come out and the tooth underneath is already growing. The dentist recommended pulling it out. But the child doesn’t want to go to the dentist, so their parents aren’t going to force them
What would you do in this situation?
i feel like a lot of the "problem" of "needing" to force children to accept medical care is that people refuse to properly explain to children the necessity of certain things. a lot of the "oh but they don't understand what's best for them" are things they CAN understand, but adults don't want to explain (-> because then they'd have to explain other things, and they don't want to do that so as to maintain authority)
so if i were the parent in this situation i would explain what the procedure actually is and does and why it's necessary without mincing words or simplifying more than necessary.
thank you for your question!

As of June 24th, 2022, I'm voluntarily celibate (volcel) because I'm uncomfortable risking my partner's bodily autonomy for my own hedonistic gratification. A women's only recourse could be to make this decision for herself, even though that's what the evil in our country wants.

I think so many people are so deeply alienated from themselves that they have no clue how to exercise their free will and autonomy. For some, this alienation runs so deep that they are afraid of their own autonomy and humanity. It is completely understandable why one would have those feelings, but it can be worrisome.
I want to help others who feel this way, so here are small things I have done to exercise my free will:
Add "guilty pleasure" songs to playlists and actually listen to them (I have a ton of late 1990s-early 2000s music I listen to now proudly that I never listened to in the past out of shame)
Getting the décor item, bath set, bed spread, ect. in the patterns you like, even if it's "childish" (I got a dinosaur-themed wastebasket from the kids' décor section and I adore it)
Taking a new route to get to a place you go to often
Eat dessert first
Celebrate well, and often
Collect things that are "odd" or don't seem like an "acceptable" thing to collect (somebody on my "for you" page collects dandelion crayola crayons and it was so cool!!!!!!)
Incorporate one new piece in an outfit you wear frequently (e.g., a new chain, a necklace, ribbons, bracelets, ect.). Challenge yourself to add onto the outfits if you feel up for it.
Sing along to songs without worrying that you sound "good" or your intonation is completely accurate
Read a book from a genre you weren't allowed to read as a kid (comics, thrillers, mysteries, anything!)
Walk without having a specific destination or goal
Pick up a new craft without expecting yourself to master it or to ever be "good" enough. Get your hands messy.
I don't want to shame anybody for not feeling as though they have free will or that they are exempt from exercising it. However, I wanted to give ideas so that you might read this list and find your own ways to express your intrinsic autonomy and will. You deserve to be a person, to feel alive, not just living. That is what our lives are for.

3 Ways Personal Autonomy Empowers Independence
Personal autonomy is about freedom and taking ownership of your choices and actions. Start implementing these three principles today and watch how your independence flourishes.
Introduction People have been discussing how to get to a level of personal freedom that helps them reach their goals. Being independent and caring for your needs has its benefits, like not answering to anyone but yourself. It helps you see the big picture while making you more aware of yourself. So, you’re not just thinking about your needs; you also know you’re part of a thriving community and…

The Unconventional Truth: Trading Pay for Freedom?
A substantial segment of the remote working population would willingly take a pay cut to preserve their work-from-home lifestyle. Are we undervaluing the perks of remote work, or are we overvaluing the traditional office setting? Let's explore...
The Unconventional Truth: Trading Pay for Freedom? As someone deeply immersed in the modern work-life discourse, I’ve noticed an intriguing trend. A substantial segment of the remote working population would willingly take a pay cut to preserve their work-from-home lifestyle. This paradox poses an unexpected question: Are we undervaluing the perks of remote work, or are we overvaluing the…

If you're worried you are going to do something impulsive with your own body that you believe will be a mistake, you should absolutely have the right and the means to make arrangements to stop yourself from doing so, whatever form those arrangements may take, and it would be extremely good if we had more social institutions set up for the purpose of doing that. What you should absolutely NOT have the right to do is project your mindset onto everyone else who might do the thing you're afraid of doing and prevent THEM from making that choice on the basis that it would be a mistake for YOU.

I feel like JC has some weird gender shit going on. Not even in the normal sense; in the ‘assigned ruined woman by the narrative’ sense. Like. Wow. JC, you really gonna get called childhood sweethearts with your rogueish evil shixiong? JC, you really gonna be left alone with naught but a single child, a widow in all but name? Wangji is out there trying to assign himself widower vibes but JC is getting constant woman scorned and wronged wife energies forced upon him from get-go.
Even his father was like *looking at an eight year old* “I see my nagging wife in you”
THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING
his parents really took a glance at that toddler and decided to project the most unhinged gender possible on him. JC, assigned neglected wife at birth.
JC performs it so conscientiously too! It's so so so important to how he is with WWX and how he views himself. 9yo JC after he's known WWX: "there he is. the cad that will break my heart." and can't ever everrrrrr stop loving WWX or break away from the utter grip WWX has on him. JC has known since before WWX came into his life that he was made to be neglected/scorned, by the person supposed to stand by his side and to whom he's supposed to be loyal.
Also lmao at the left with a child thing. It's totally that, except JC WISHES he was a widow!!! He's not even granted that dignity by society! But nah he's the ruined woman who was seduced and abandoned by someone who promised her marriage and then went off and died after making her look for a fool, while she was making excuses for him, and everyone knows what a chump JC was for it! Was WWX lying all along? Was is ever even real ?
(JC gets the answer to that question when WWX breaks it off at the temple by telling him nah, it was only duty to JC's family that made stick by JC's side. Probably not how WWX meant it! But wow, way to put it the least personal possible way. WWX's most intimate organ in JC's body had nothing to do with feelings for JC or JC as a person. Way to make sure JC never, ever reaches out for fear of being that nagging, clingy, shrewish, needy embarrassment of a person)

A bitter debate and a feminine fate
Lie in tandem like two precious babes
While the former gets warmer, it's the latter that matters
Except on the nation's airwaves
And custodians of public opinion stayed back
After vainly discussing her rights
Lay hands off her body
It's not your fucking life!

can you imagine how both the gotham rogues and jason must've felt during the events of gotham war?
here all the rogues are, people who've hurt and killed thousands. a lot of them barely show regret for their actions and are repeat offenders. they're considered the worst of the worst by gotham's citizens. yet here comes batman, a man who strongly believes in rehabilitation and endless chances for all criminals. every time he puts the rogues in prison, he doesn't talk to them like they're animals and ensures they know he believes in them becoming better.
but then they hear about what batman did to the red hood- how he took away red hood's autonomy and completely violated his rights. they hear about how batman made it so that red hood only feels crippling fear when he feels adrenaline- that batman is doing it for red hood's own good.
and they wonder what batman sees in the red hood to see someone beyond rehabilitation. they wonder how batman believes in people like them, people who repeatedly kill indiscriminately, if he only sees the worst in the red hood, someone they know who doesn't hurt others like they do.
imagine how jason feels, realizing that he is the one person batman doesn't believe in rehabilitation for. that batman considers him more of a problem than his other rogues- that he's the one who needs his autonomy taken away compared to someone like the joker.

You know, I'm not a cheerleader for cis people who get gender-affirming care (especially if it's "gender nonconforming," such as a cis guy who gets vaginoplasty) because I think cis people are superior or that they should be coddled, but rather, because I don't want people to respect my gender-related care simply because I'm trans. I want people to respect my bodily autonomy because... I'm a human person. It sometimes feels like people want you to prove that they should respect your bodily autonomy, and that's something I fundamentally despise.
I shouldn't need to be open about my transness in order to be respected because... that's not information you're inherently privileged to, nor are you entitled to somebody's transness/gender situation in general. I prefer that we start seeing gender care as something that isn't "for" one group of people when that's not how the world will work, y'know. There will always be people who seek specific care no matter what or who they are, because they're human people who can make decisions.
