Transphobes are freaking out over this because if trans women can give birth then their piss-poor list of what it takes to be a "real woman" gets smaller and they're freaking out over "the man who stole some poor woman's uterus!"
Except, like you can read without clicking on the article right there- this transplant is between two cisgender sisters. (Cisters, if you will.) One sister was infertile.
Now, could this mean that trans women might be able to give birth in the future with a uterus transplant? Maybe. I hope to see that day. (I'd donate mine if I could. I dunno if my organs would be any good to anybody because of my blood disorder.)

Hay guys! So I’m going under the knife again! My uterus has fibroids and I’m getting them removed this fall. I’m asking for $7k to cover what my insurance wont cover. And also for funds so I can stay afloat after I take 3 weeks off from work. If you like you can also send funds to my [email protected] My Cash App-$SophiaChes My venmo is Sophia-Chester-1 Sharing this post and tagging others is just as important as making a donation. I would greatly appreciate any help.

"the uterus is only for making babies and if I don't want to have babies I actually don't need it and they can just cut it out" is really just medical misogyny but you aren't ready for that conversation

My grandma and I were talking about my period pain yesterday. While it's not completely debilitating me, it's just very inconvenient and makes me feel awful for one or two days (which I'm really grateful for. Because I know there's ppl with worse pain and longer periods (haha) of pain.)
But now my grandma was like... that's not normal that you feel awful every month. And I just said that most of my friends deal with this pain and even worse pain and it's very much normal.
(My grandma apparently never had a lot of pain... if any, lucky her. (She also had my mom at 16 and my uncle 8 years later and then soon got her uterus removed bc of some health issues, I think. ...)
So now I wanna know and prove a point.
If you want to, you can tell me in the tags how long your pain lasts.
And pls ignore how I misspelled debilitating 😂

Should I stay or should I go now?
Should I stay or should I go now?
If I go, there will be trouble
And if I stay it will be double
So come on and let me know

Just found out that period cramps are caused due to transient ischemia of the uterus. In simpler words, blood supply gets cut off for a few seconds, cells die, uterus screams in pain.
You know where else this happens? In a heart attack. That's fucking where.
I'm literally having the heart attack equivalent of the uterus every single month. What the fuck.

Erasing MOTHER XX
Tumblr media
The British General Medical Council (GMC) has updated its internal policy to remove all mentions of the word “mother” for its employees, opting instead for “parent” to avoid female-specific language.
The guidance also changed the term “surrogate mother” in favor of “surrogate parent,” explaining in a maternity document that the “GMC offers maternity to all colleagues going on maternity leave,” including so-called surrogate parents.
The GMC further updated its menopause advice to suggest that it does not only impact women, making clear that it “will work proactively to make adjustments where necessary to support individuals experiencing the menopause.”
Heather Welford of the maternity action group With Woman told one outlet following the guidance update, “[t]he decision by the GMC to obscure the fact that only women have babies is ideologically driven, medically inaccurate and unhelpful to women and babies. It moves away from the drive for plain English and makes medical literature unclear.”
“For medical professionals, the sex of a person is salient to their health care. Reputable organisations such as the GMC should not be changing language on a population level to pander to ideologically driven pressure groups,” she added.
This follows a British government-funded LGBT organization recommending people refer to vaginas as “bonus holes” to increase inclusivity earlier this summer.

So according to various evolutionary models I have seen, they pinpoint the first childbearing/birthing animal to a female shrew-like mammal in the middle Jurassic period. And Idk what the science behind that would look exactly, but it got me wondering about how the uterus evolved with that ability.
I know a lot of feminists and women’s activists argue that the uterus is not primarily a childbearing organ. But maybe we should respect the fact that it kinda is? Maybe it isn’t a sexist thing to say if it’s literally ingrained in our normal biology?
Regardless of whether you have children, a healthy and functioning uterus has health benefits of all sorts for the woman who has one. I’m not saying that if the uterus is primarily for pregnancy then you have an obligation to become pregnant. BUT, the uterus was formed before, during, and after our mammalian ancestors gained the ability to birth live offspring. That is a fact, and you know what else?
This switch from egg laying to gestation is likely what enabled our ancestors to survive the meteor strike 65 millions years ago. Little pregnant Juramaia were able to flee into caves and other safe crevices while the world burned and froze over and struggled to equalize. Countless lives of our own ancestors in turn were able to share space more effectively by not having to leave behind eggs to guard in what little room they had.
It was the childbearing purpose of the uterus that has allowed humanity to thrive and survive. This primal tradition can even be seen in historical and present day women figures fighting for changes and their own destinies while pregnant!
I’m not saying that pregnancy is all sunshine and roses, or that it should be mandatory. I’m just saying that this ancient gift should be respected, at the least, for literally and figuratively birthing us. That we should respect the power our uterus holds for our own lives, just that fact that we COULD birth and raise little humans who can change the future.
The uterus is a childbearing organ that gave us life. I am okay with that; maybe if society was too, we can make it into a new age of true equity.
