Ok so, I have only ever watched one episode of Adventure Time, and it was on a hotel room TV, in terrible hindi dub, and I barely remember it on account of being 10(?) but it horrified me.

there wasnt exactly a focused plot, per say. i mean, there was, but it wasnt something methodical and planned out, it was played by ear. and i think it really worked. the way they did it turned out a really cool magic system (based on the idea that reality is just collective perception, and magic users are aware of this and can manipulate perception ergo reality. but the more cosmic knowledge you have the more insane or depressed you become etc especially if youre mortal), and also cool world building (it takes place in a post apocalypse after a nuclear war, now far into the future the face of the earth has completely changed but the horrors unleashed still impact it today), and also a lot of really amazing themes (the world is always changing and nothing is ever permanent, but no matter how things change things also stay the same, in a different way. especially where bonds and love are concerned. everything stays.)

and YEAH there are lesbians (i mean i always hc marcy as bi but still). and they also come from the shows improvisational nature. theres a lot of genuinely really amazing relationships and plotpoints born out of that to me. like, as the show starts to get a lot more thematically dense later on it can seem like a weird shift. some ppl say it got pretentious over time bc its not as goofy (its still pretty goofy lol), but i think it worked... like... perfectly.

because its a coming of age story where the main character actually ages, it actually feels so right that the world around him begins to seem different too. it makes sense that when he was 12 we were doing stupid goofy adventures, when he was 15 we were watching him deal with a lot of really fucked up trauma, and when he was 17 we watched him learn to grow as a person who thinks beyond simple terms of good and evil.

i know im tottaaallly rambling at this point but theres really an insane amount to talk about with adventure time. the timeline alone is ridiculous. but mostly i think my passion comes down to the fact that i was also growing up with the story, always around the same age as the mc going through similar stuff... even now, the story is focusing on a depressed 20-something trying to find whimsy in her life again. and technically the last episode timeline-wise is about accepting death lol

so like idk how exactly id recommend it to a new viewer, its really possible that a lot of ppl wont be able to really tolerate the early seasons as adults (i mean, i think theyre charming, but i have nostalgia goggles lol). that being said i think that its a series totally worth a shot for everyone... eventually. if it sounds interesting you just gotta accept the goofiness at first and trust that youre in for something wild in a totally different way later on. and totally unique and cool and special in a way nothing else has really been able to capture for me since.

TL;DR: no yeah the show was incredibly fucked up and that swan did eat that other swan. but it does have themes and also lesbians.

reviewing loki s2 ep4 (major spoilers!)

i was bit hesitant thowards this ep cuz i started noticing how this season parallels the previous one, which went very downhill after ep3 however, i think it seem to get better this time? 🤔🤭 this is so far my fav episode and hopefull they'll keep this energy for the last 2 eps. ok let's get into it:

i don't think this was timed like this on purpose but love how we're 3 days away from halloween and this episode fits with it so well. i could be biased as a horror fan but i loved the eeriness (is that even a term?)

brad you stupidass why are you listening to ravonna when she clearly doesn't care about any of your lives on the time line 😭

ooouu the box scene 😧 not miss minutes' psycho ass smiling like she's getting creepier each ep- also as someone who watches gory movies i expected to see what was left of all the prisoners but then i remembered disney tries to keep shit as "family friendly" as possible altough i am not complaining cuz it's a lot more cinematic to just hear the blood droplets & it leaves space for our imagination!

why does it feel like b-15 is lowkey the true leader of the tva now? i can definitely vibe with that.

(notice how in 1x04 mobius told him to grow up?) he's possibly even more mature then he was in the sacred time line but that was due his sctripted fate of being a "loser" that sabotaged him from more rational choices but now he's free to think & do what he wants n i love that for him.

goodbye miss minutes i assure you that nobody's gonna miss yew. 💁‍♀️

despite of sylvie & loki not fully agreeing on moral issues and stuff, i enjoyed them working together, it was finally sylvie's turn to show off her magic 😋

loki was so soft & reassuring with victor timely only for him to be spaghettified ?? i knew they'd probs kill him off but i didn't expect it to be such a weird & immidate death 😭 kinda sad cuz i don't think they'll bring that version of him back.

idk how to feel about ravonna getting pruned. not sure she'll get redeemed cuz it's too late for that now but pruning doesn't kill an invidual so it's likely that her story doesn't just end here.

love the soundtrack in this series generally but in the latest episode it's outstanding ! natalie holt truly added her whole 🐱 into this ost 🙏

the cliffhanger is absolutely killing me, i'll have to absorb all the theories until next friday like i fr cannot wait ngfddjfsvbm

this is just me jokingly dunking on mysme's other routes and pointing out the weird and wacky shit that happened in comparison to jaehee's significantly more tame route (because i love her route. we stan jaehee in this household.)

Part two of getting banned from every dorm

So idia is. Not as easy to find as most other housewardens. He does not leave his room like, ever.

I managed to catch ortho in the lounge and asked if I could speak to idia, to which ortho said I could just tell him whatever it was I wanted to tell idia. I told him it was somethinf I absolutely had to say to idia himself, to which ortho said he’d try his best to get me in contact with him. I then asked what Idia’s favorite anime is, I don’t remember how to spell the name it was some weeb shit (and I don’t wanna piss off other fans) so I’ll call it Some Anime.

Pls note I have never seen or heard of this anime in any capacity and my best friend is the 2nd biggest weeb in the whole school, second only to idia himself.

Anyway, ortho never got back to me. But I did run into idia on one of the three times he leaves his room in a month, he was in the kitchen pretty late at night getting snacks. I asked him why ortho wasn’t getting them for him but appearantly ortho was charging? Idk it was like 12am I was just getting some water cuz I have a normal sleep schedule and don’t eat Oreos by the box at 12am like some of us do

Obviously neither of us wanted to make small talk cuz we were both out of it as hell, but I managed to make an off handed, “hey aren’t you into Some Anime? I just finished it yesterday.” In reality I had skimmed the list of character names on google and vaguely memorized how many episodes there were and a brief summary, I don’t know shit abt the plot or any of the characters past their names.

When I tell you this mother fucker lit up, I almost felt bad for what I was abt to do cuz he looked more joyous than I’d ever seen him. He asked who my favorite character was to which I said the first one I thought of and he seemed generally nuetral on that character, I was hoping to pick someone he despised but oh well. I started simple, a “yeah I enjoyed it at first but the plot kinda got lost around episode 6”, to which he drops a “episode 6? That’s like the best one in the season.”

“I thought it was a bit fast paced… didn’t quite get the point across very well.”

To which we start bickering and he somehow has still not noticed that I have not seen this fucking show in my life, also I was stealing his Oreos here and there

He looked livid by the end, the tips of his hair were turning orange. Then I “accidentally” knocked his box of Oreos off the counter, spilling and/or breaking what was left. He looked like he was desperately trying to compose his temper and told me to go back to my dorm (literally told me to go to my room 💀) to which I said smth to effect of “yknow, I don’t think I wanna live under your roof anymore.”

So now, I am typing this from the hall of mirrors, in the middle of the night. I’ll probably head to Scarabia cuz I know a couple ppl there and they seem welcoming enough, but I am, as it stands, homeless, I think. Idk. Ortho will probably let me back in tmrw so idk if this is even a success but yeah

Okay, first of all, everyone is entitled to their opinion / interpretation of him and his character. I mean, I'm a firm believer that he is an adult, but I know other people disagree. And that is okay.

That being said, one of the reasons I head canon him as an adult is simply because the ambiguous age, and the fact that I am one, and ship with him and I'm not going to ship with a 12 year old. (I know, shocking.)

But it goes further than that.

THE ART BOOK

we know from the art-book, that 🐐🌈 is canonically an adult.

I see the 🐐💚 form as nothing but a memory of what he once was.

Fifth anniv. ⏰ dialogues

I've seen a lot of people on Twitter saying that using this dialogue doesn't count, and that people 'erase the context of it' so I'm going to show the full context here.

Here, he sort of claims that he is grown up.

A lot of people argue that right under this line of dialogue he is being childish, and that kids refer to themselves as grown ups all the time, which that is true. But we have to take into consideration that adults are allowed to enjoy things, as well.

He goes against his own statement by hinting at exactly what type of gift he wants, and a lot of people argue that this is proof that he's just a child playing pretend, but I disagree with that mindset. Adults are allowed to want things, when you become an adult you do not just magically stop wanting fun things like coloring supplies and colorful things.

My best example/argument... would be 🍝🦴 himself.

A majority of the fandom interprets 🍝🦴 as an adult (from what I am aware of?) - despite him acting much more childish and innocent than 🌻 is.

He collects action figures, he wants to have a shiny red car, he gets read a bedtime story about fluffy bunnies, he plays dress up with a "battle body" constantly, there's more examples but need I say more??? Point being, despite his childish demeanor and innocent portrayal (despite him being one of the toughest monsters imo) - he is often portrayed or interpreted as an adult.

There is a point, where I feel like it might become a double standard??? imo??

How come 🍝🦴 can act just as, if not more childish than 🌻 does, and yet still be considered an adult?

Now the argument could be something like, oh 🌻 is more childish emotionally.

Well, yeah. He's traumatized???

He got murdered, and is stuck in a time loop and a flower essentially, and has grown too cold to feel for others. Of course he is going to be explosive, irrational at times, and immature. It's because he's been hurt, his mind works different than 🍝🦴's because he has gone through more pain than he has and remembers it.

I feel like the argument that "Oh he acts immature so he's a child" is harmful not only bc it stimulates this belief that adults just magically lose their immature / happy fun sides, but also I think it's a little bad for neurodivergient people out there who are a lot like him.

There are adults out there who can still want childish things, and that is okay. There are adults out there who still react immaturely to their emotions, and that is okay.

Hell, I'm gonna be turning 19 in like... 2 months, and I still would KILL to have like, toys and colorful things decking out my room and whatnot. It would be really, really nice. Does that make ME a child?

And I still spiral out of control sometimes with my emotional outbursts.

There are bipolar people, there are narcissists, and there are plenty of other things, and I know an adult who is about to be in their 40's who get excited over batman toys at five below.

Point being, I interpret him as a neurodivergient adult who is traumatized and deserved time to heal.

I probably will have more to say about this at some point later. Again this is just my interpretation/thoughts on it ur allowed to see him different

6. which ship fans are the most annoying?

i think id have to say funpoison AND I SHIP FUNPOISON OKAY- i just think they're by far the most popular ship and they tend to be the default dd ship for most ppl, which leads a lot of especially newer fans to bring the up at Every Possible Moment even when the content they're interacting with isn't funpoison based (stuff like "wow i loved this story but i think id work better if it was funpoison instead of poisonstar"). its not a super huge or common occurrence, but in comparison to fans of other ships i think funpoison fans are just more likely to be annoying like that bc theres a lot more of them and its the main ship for new fans

9. worst part of canon

THE RACISM. the whole "japan takes over the world" thing is a gross and racist trope that stems from WWII propaganda, the way the director in particular is portrayed in the comics is just FILLED with racist stereotypes of east asian women, and the comics in general severely lack actual characters of color. this post and this post go a lot more in depth into these issues and id highly recommend reading them for those who havent heard a lot on this subject

10. worst part of fanon

ALSO THE RACISM. the best part of fanworks is that creators have the ability to improve upon parts of the original text in their own works, and yet there is is this refusal from white fans that fans of color have pointed out time and time again to acknowledge said racism in canon and how it carries over into fanon works. i know i was absolutely guilty of this in the past and im trying to do better, and i know the only way for us white fans to do better is to LISTEN TO PEOPLE OF COLOR. stop using aave as killjoy slang, stop turning jet star into the motherly one/making him an overbearing caretaker, stop recycling racist shit from the comics in fanart/fics

Every single thought I have about the Doctor Who 60th specials… (Part 2/2)

Part 1

I feel like I’m losing my mind with all the opinions, questions and theories I have about what we’ve watched over the last three weeks so this is part 2 of a full semi-comprehensive list of pretty much all of it so I can get it out of my head and (mostly) move on

The Giggle

Toymaker Stuff

I didn’t love the mad guy’s speech at the beginning, it felt very unnatural idk

Wilf isn’t affected by what’s going on so that would surely mean that Kate shouldn’t be affected either because they both went into the TARDIS for pretty short amounts of time. Wilf probably even less than Kate as far as I can remember. I’m kinda just gonna assume it’s to do with when episodes were written, filmed and aired like I guess RTD didn’t know that Kate would end up in the TARDIS during PoTD and it was too late to change it when he found out

The tune in everyone's head reminds me of the Master in S3 using the beat to get everyone to vote for him

I don’t know how I feel about the Toymaker showing up because of the salt in WBY like.. Okay I guess. Wait I don't think I really care that much either way actually. It’s fine

NPH did a fine job for the most part but I low-key wish the Toymaker was played by someone unknown because I just couldn't get out of my head that it was NPH lmao but maybe that’s just a me problem

I liked the Spice Girls scene but I didn't love the lip-syncing idk, it didn’t have enough power to it, just felt kinda awkward. Also while I loved it, it is probably my least favourite out of the three scenes like that that we’ve had. Rasputin number one!

I’m not sure if I like the bit where the Doctor basically does what he did with the Master and offers to be with the Toymaker and go travelling and stuff like.. Did he mean that? What would have happened if the Toymaker agreed? I do get what he’s saying though about how the Toymaker can do all of that and chooses to cause problems for people but idk, offering to go out to space with him isn’t my fave like why are you tryna give the Toymaker a redemption arc rn fuck him

The flashback to 1 and the original Toymaker!! Love it

RTD said in the commentary that the ‘I made a jigsaw out of your history’ comment was kinda to relax the rules a bit and make more sense of contradicting things we’ve seen like the half-human thing and the Timeless Child for example and like.. Okay, I guess. I think it’s an unnecessary addition tbh. And the ‘Did you like it?’ comment is like right, are we saying the Doctor has memories of, say, believing they were half human because that’s so silly to me. Just chalk it up to a dumb writing choice that went nowhere and move on. We don't need an in-universe explanation for it.

‘I made every opinion supreme. That's the game of the 21st century. They shout and they type and they cancel. So I fixed it. Now everyone wins.’ - CRINGE sorry. Like ppl say Chibnall has on the nose commentaries (@ the Orphan 55 speech) but some of the stuff in this ep was like yeah okay Russ mate we get it. Also I don’t trust that a 60yo man fully understands what ‘cancelling’ is and it always makes me side eye ppl when they mention cancelling bc I’m like right but ‘cancelling’ is a lot of the time actually just people being held accountable for things but whatever. I get though that the point in this episode was to make people extreme so there were examples of ‘cancelling’ in the ridiculous sense rather than the holding accountable sense so whatever

I cba to check what he specifically said but there was a moment where the Doctor was like ‘if I told you he [could do this thing] would you believe me’ and the person he was talking to was like ‘can he do that’ and the Doctor was like ‘no’ so um why mention it then? Dumb as fuck

Not sure about the Toymaker being racist, feels unnecessary? Obviously recognising that the original character is fucked up is important but I don’t know if having the new Toymaker straight up be racist towards someone and spend the episode doing different accents was really needed? Like was the actual character of the Toymaker racist in that original serial or did he just have aspects to him (like name and outfit) that we now recognise as being fucked up? And he’s not from Earth so idk why he would be racist and also in unleashed they’re like ‘he is now a white character played by a white actor’ which he also was in the 60s so?? Unless what they’re saying is that back then the character was intended to be Chinese but was obviously played by a white person? Idk everything about the original Toymaker so maybe overall it does work that he’s racist, idfk

Hints

The Master - RTD said in the commentary for this episode that he hasn’t got any Master plans right now and if that’s true then I truly do not understand why he would bring the Master up at all let alone hint at their return (in the same way he hinted at it back in S3 mind you like get some new actually decent ideas Russell I’m begging). It’s just such a waste of time to do that. Let whoever decides to bring the Master back in the future figure out how they want to do it, and if it’s RTD that ends up doing it, do the hinting and explanation at a time when it makes sense, not in the midst of an episode two plus seasons from the Master even coming back. Baffling choice. I did love the laughs we heard as someone picked the tooth up though and also I love the idea of the Master going up against the Toymaker.

The One Who Waits - Okay. Idk how anyone can have any theories about this tbh but someone who the Toymaker would rather avoid has gotta be pretty rough

‘My Legions are coming.’ - They say in the commentary that this is true and every few episodes the story is kinda supernatural and the rules are suspended a bit and I’m SO excited for that, sounds really interesting

Name Drops

Obsessed with the companion puppet show. I’ve seen a lot of people basically try and clown on the fact that no Chibnall companions got mentioned during that as if it’s the funniest thing in the world and Chibnall has been skipped for shady reasons or something and I find it so embarrassing. It’s literally like well no, 13 managed to get all her companions home safe so why would the Toymaker mention them in a puppet show about the Doctor’s dead companions? Like ppl seem to think it’s funny bc they’re skipping Chibnall’s companions but imo it’s more funny bc it makes the Toymaker’s little story less impactful like he’s got a run of three companions that leave via traumatic experiences but then he has to skip four whole companions bc they literally got home fine like it ruins the flow and is kinda embarrassing for him if he’s tryna prove that the Doctor get’s everyone killed all the time bc clearly they don’t. But anyways

The lack of Yaz mention in the scene at the end literally full of namedrops is frustrating icl. Like, the whole conversation they’re having is around the Doctor never resting. The Doctor is literally about to go and rest by staying in one place for an extended period of time with a companion, FIXING THEMSELVES SOMEWHERE, and you don’t think now would be a good time to do a quick mention to the companion the Doctor left less than 24 hours ago that they decided they couldn’t be with because they ‘couldn’t fix themselves to anyone’? Are you being fr? Like, a Yaz mention fits in so perfectly with that conversation so the fact they left her out is CRAZY.

I don’t think it would have made sense to mention her along with River and Rose because the vibe of the conversation was about like, hugely devastating moments/experiences and the Doctor leaving Yaz isn’t quite on that level in terms of Yaz is just in Sheffield if the Doctor wanted to see her whereas they lost both Rose and River in devastating ways. But I think when people point that out they do it as a reason to not mention Yaz but to me it’s like, well no, she should still have got a mention, just at a different point in the conversation. Even if it wasn’t in relation to the whole fixing themselves to someone thing, they could very easily have had 15 been like ‘Yaz left less than 24 hours ago and I bet you haven’t even tried processing that’

Idk. I know so many ppl are clowning on the fact Yaz wasn’t mentioned or trying to justify why there was no reason to mention her anyways but it’s like no matter what you think of the previous era and the quality of it, it is a FACT that the Doctor thought of Yaz very highly, literally comparing her to River, so not mentioning her during that scene, especially when the Doctor left her not even 24 hours ago, is beyond ridiculous and I’ll genuinely never stop being baffled by it

I know some people don’t like the Sarah Jane mention and feel like she deserved something bigger but I liked it tbh. The Doctor was like ‘Can you just think for a second about how crazy it is that you’ve been so busy doing shit that you not only haven’t been to see your old companion in YEARS to just catch but also it’s taken you so long to do so that she’s died.’ I get wanting more emotion but I kinda liked that it was more of a call out and also like a ‘woah’ moment because I think Sarah Jane is one of those characters you wouldn’t think of dying so her being gone is in universe now too IS a woah moment

The Mavic Chen mention was kinda unnecessary. Idk I don’t really know anything about the character other than it’s a white guy portraying an Asian character so like… of all the characters to mention idk why that would be the one. I don’t even know if they’re that significant of a character, the racism is literally the only thing I hear people mention which leads me to think there’s not really much else going on there that’s worth them getting a name drop after however many decades but whatever

I think bigeneration as a concept is interesting and I actually do like the moment where it gets brought up and they’re like ‘It’s a myth apparently not’ and 15 is like ‘myth, myth, myth,’ like ‘the details don't matter right now, what’s happened has happened, moving on’ but at the same time, while the details didn’t matter in that moment, I actually do want details.

I can’t remember which Doctor it was but one of them says to the Toymaker, ‘you did this, you doubled us’ so I guess we’re saying that the reason the bigeneration happened is because of the Toymaker. That’s fine by me tbh. Like okay, the Toymaker, and people as powerful as the Toymaker, are rarely around to make that happen so I guess it makes sense that bigeneration could be SO rare that it’s thought of as a myth rather than a real thing. But that’s about the only thing about bigeneration that I think is even remotely clear or like, un-annoying enough for me to just be like okay cool whatever

From the commentary - ‘I think down the timeline they all separated and came back to life with their TARDISes, the gift of the Toymaker. What I'm calling the Docterverse. I want to create a future in which Sylvester McCoy could just survive and have an adventure. Because one of the thing about The Star Beast is to get you back we had to jump through so many hoops which is a great story but it's like why can't you just arrive and step out of the tardis. So hopefully it creates a story where that happens.’ - This is just unnecessary and I don’t really see the need for it and the reasons RTD gave aren’t really THAT compelling to me.

First of all, the ‘gift of the Toymaker’ comment is proof of him being why the bigeneration happened. I don’t think the bigen is in any way related to the state the Doctor was in after years of bottling things up like I think some people have speculated. But also there is a moment in the episode where 15 says ‘bigeneration has never happened before’ so that makes me be like well if it hasn’t happened before why would it be a myth? And I guess how do you know it’s never happened before? IDFK

Second, ‘we had to jump through hoops to get DT and CTATE back’... You quite literally did not. 13 regenerated into DT, Donna magically survived with the help of girl power and her plot device daughter. It was actually quite simple.

Third, I get the thing of wanting to be able to tell a story that’s set in a world where Sylvester McCoy didn’t regenerate when he did and instead went on to continue travelling with Ace or met new companions or grew old or whatever else but I just don’t think bigeneration was the solution for that. You can absolutely write those kinds of stories without bigeneration. Like somebody introduce Rusell to the concept of Alternate Universe fanfiction fuck me. All of that stuff does not need to be added to the official canon timeline of the Doctor. Doctor Who is already a massive franchise with content all over the place but imo the idea that every Doctor bigenerated adds to that on such a ridiculous level. And also I know that there’s already so many Doctors travelling the universe but the fact that now I guess there’s TWO of every Doctor is like.. Why?

I also think all of it happening in the same universe cheapens the story of our main Doctor and each incarnation’s life and ‘death’ on some level. Like, now RTD is basically saying that 13 bigenerated and 14 went on like we saw in the 60th but 13 coulda gone back to Yaz and said ‘Actually I’ll be with you because I can do that now.’ and I just HATE IT. That would completely take away all the emotional impact of their ending because it’s all in the same universe as what took place in the show. That’s not some AU Yasmin Khan that now gets to have a happily ever after with the Doctor, it would be OUR Yaz from this universe and that’s STUPID. For another example, 10’s final words of ‘I don’t wanna go’ well don’t worry, he didn’t go! Like omg write all the AU fanfics you want about 13 running back to Yaz or 10 crying about not wanting to go only to then actually not have to go or whatever else but don’t put that shit into the actual canon Russell?? Not that 13 going back to Yaz is in the canon now (10 not actually ‘going’ is tho according to RTD’s everyone bigenerated theory), but it’s possible we’ll get some EU book that’s about that and I just would much prefer stuff like that to be kept to fanfics or even be official DW content but be specifically alternate universe/what if style stuff.

Idk like at the end of the day I will just be ignoring that RTD is saying every Doctor bigenerated in that moment unless we see some stuff related to it in the main show (though even then I’ll probs be like nah) because it’s genuinely one of the dumbest things a showrunner has ever come up with but even though I’m gonna ignore it, it still winds me up because I’m just so baffled that it’s even real and the reasons for it aren’t even good.

Like ‘now we can bring a Doctor back whenever and not have to worry about where they fit in their timeline or how old they look’??? How STUPID omg I actually can’t cope. There’s basically infinite space in every Doctor’s timeline where you can just be like okay let’s say they came from that point. The need to be like well now we don’t have to figure that out is SO lazy. A lot of stories don’t even get too specific, because half the time it doesn’t really matter much

And the whole them aging thing is like did anyone give a fuck that they looked old in Power of the Doctor? No. Because it doesn’t matter. And if it did matter, just recast them. Like if we ever got a full on multi Doctor episode with a Classic Doctor (like TUaT) I would much prefer to see them be recast than have the character be played by the older actor and have it rationalised by saying ‘Well they bigenerated and they’ve got old’ like how FUCKING DUMB get me out of here. Just recast them and think for two seconds about what point in their timeline they could be coming from.

And if you want to tell stories where they magically survived and met new companions or went on adventures that wouldn’t fit with what we know their general timeline/arc is then create specific alternate universe content, don’t make every Doctor magically survive their regeneration. The Tales of the TARDIS stories on iPlayer are interesting but the idea of it being in our main Doctor’s universe/timelines is just silly. Say it’s an alternate universe where the Doctor didn’t regenerate at the point they did omg, it’s that simple

He also literally says ‘it’s what everyone does in their imagination’ and ‘it's Big Finish’ and um yes Russell, there is a reason that stuff is imagination and alternate universe and not like, canonically a part of the Doctor’s life, because it’s just silly.

Also I’m not fully clear on what this means for 14 like okay so (1) is he going to get old and die, (2) is he his own Doctor now that will regenerate as normal for potentially an infinite amount of times or (3) is he gonna at some point regenerate and magically appear as the 15 that bigenerated out of him however many years previously on the roof?

I want to say it’s (3) mainly because of 15 saying ‘I’m fine because you fix yourself’, and it does make sense that 15 is the way he is because he’s a result of the recovery 14 goes through but it raises more questions because like... How tf does that happen? 14 regenerates one day and turns into a puff of smoke while his consciousness travels across the country to the roof and implants itself into 14’s brain as the Toymaker shoots him and then he pops out as 15? Like? It’s SO ridiculous. This is kinda the only thing that makes me want bigeneration to come up again in future seasons because maybe RTD has a clear explanation in mind that will play out better on screen and make more sense than what we’re working with right now

Tbh I think option (1) would’ve been my favourite if we’re saying every Doctor bigenerated because it makes things a lot simpler and also would mean that whatever the Doctor goes through post bigeneration doesn’t effect the main Doctor so essentially our main Doctor would be existing as if the bigenerations never even happened because unlike if option (3) is what’s going on, they won’t have any memories of what the post-bigenerated Doctor got up before they magically get transported back to become them yknow? It does kinda make 15 being like that (happy, therapized) less interesting though because it would basically mean that he is a true fresh start for the Doctor and he basically fobbed all the trauma off onto 14 when he popped out rather than having memories of overcoming that trauma etc while living with Donna. And that’s kinda cop out-y and doesn’t make sense if we’re saying EVERY other Doctor also bigenerated (which I’m not saying bc fuck that but it’s Russell’s theory so).

Like if 11 bigenerated in Time of the Doctor, 12 would NOT have that personality bc he presumably would have fobbed all the trauma onto 11 and came out fresh as fuck like 15 did (and like obviously the reason that actually didn’t happen is because bigeneration wasn’t invented back then out of universe but you know what I mean, if we’re saying retroactively that it DID happen then it doesn’t make full sense. Unless 14’s bigeneration was a one off and not every bigeneration results in one Doctor being left with the trauma and the other Doctor being fine. Wait, I'd much prefer that actually…

If the explanation we’re going with is every Doctor bigenerated then I prefer the idea that both Doctor’s that come from the bigeneration are exactly same, but maybe bc 14/15 are the main focus and reason the bigenerations happened, that’s why 14 is fucked still and 15 is recovered. So then 14 lives his life, dies of old age. Then 15 continues as the Doctor. And for previous Doctors, 12 would still be the 12 we know because the bigeneration didn’t change the Doctor’s personality.

This is what kills me about Russell saying EVERY Doctor bigenerated btw. I'm so down for 14 bigenerating then living his life resulting in 15 being the way he is but it happenining to EVERY Doctor is where it falls apart. It’s STUPID. Because if we’re saying 15 is the way he is because 14 lived his life and go therapy then surely the same would’ve happened with all previous Doctors? And maybe they wouldn’t necessarily be thereapized but they wouldn’t have the traumas of what they just regenerated from because they would have just lived however many years between then becoming slightly or largely different people. Like if 10 bigenerated and didn’t go, essentially getting what he wanted, would the 11th Doctor then have wanted to run away to a fresh start like he did in S5? Because who knows what sort of things 10 would have got up to between bigenerating as himself and magically getting back there again as 11. Does any of this make sense omg I feel like I’m waffling like crazy

As for option (2), yeah, I hate that idea. Like, 14 (and every previous Doctor that apparently bigenerated (fuck you Russel T)) going on to live that life out but then also continue on regenerating and basically being their own person now that’s branched off from our main Doctor? Horrific. No thanks.

Regardless of how he got that way, I am so in love with 15’s vibes and just how happy he is. I feel like it’s not gonna last long (which I’m fine with because I love a traumatised Doctor) but I’ll love it for as long as it lasts

I love that 15 basically takes over the episode instantly like he says to push, he explains stuff, he has the throw that makes them win. Idk I understand why people were worried about the first main black Doctor being overshadowed by the people’s princess but I think anyone who believes DT overshadowed Ncuti in those final 15 or so minutes is SOOOOO wrong. 14 still had his moments obviously, but 15 was absolutely present and had great stuff too, probably more so

The ‘do you come in a range of colours’ comment from Donna was honestly kinda jarring like I know what she was asking and why she was asking it but the way she asked felt crazy. But also if she has memories of what the Doctor has been through since he left her then surely she knows he ‘comes in a range of colours’ because she would’ve seen 13 meet Fugitive? Unless I’m misremembering and Donna was being fr when she said she couldn’t remember the stuff she saw properly. Idk

There’s vibes to it that I don’t love but overall I think I am happy and okay with 14’s ending like I’ve seen a lot of people say it ruins 10’s ending for various reasons or like, it’s not fair that other Doctors didn’t get this but I think that’s kinda silly. In terms of 10’s ending, him bigenerating (according to Russell, I'm pretending that shit didn't happen) is what ruins his ending, not the fact that 14 now gets to be happy. And in terms of other Doctor’s deserving it, you just sound childish icl. Like yeah okay every Doctor deserves to be happy and healthy and rest up but that just isn’t what happened, grow up. Wish they got that, sure, but don’t act like 14 getting that instead of them makes the story bad because clearly if you want that for your fave Doctor then you mustn't think the story is that bad

I don’t think I looove the explanation that his face came back because he was wearing himself out and wanted to go home or whatever like idk. It feels kinda simple and boring. I do like the idea of the Doctor just being so worn out that he ends up spending a regeneration recovering, that’s VERY real and the Doctor defo needs that. But that being the whole reason the face came back is very cop out-y imo, much like the explanation for Donna surviving the metacrisis. Two big story points that could’ve had really interesting explanations but were kinda nothing in the end. I’m glad 14 got the ending he did but that part of the explanation was a bit boring

14 accepting he’s regenerating only to then.. Not regenerate is kinda haunting like everyone has BEEN saying oh it would be nice if 10 didn’t want to go and 14 finally got closure or whatever and was okay with it and then that literally happened and he didn’t even end up going like.. Okay. I think it makes sense for him to be okay with going bc as much as people love to say it, he’s not ACTUALLY 10 and the Doctor’s attitude to regeneration has changed since he was 10 but idk, I’m just wondering if the bigen kinda ruins that moment of acceptance from him

14 saying he fought all those battles and now he knows what for because he’s living a happy life makes me feel INSANE. Honestly, I think that’s the line that really makes me remember that this isn’t just 10 3.0, this is the Doctor with pre- and post-10 baggage and I really felt his age and felt how deserving the Doctor is of just being happy and living that life.

There’s a moment where 15 says about how they’ve never just stopped and rested and I’ve seen people not like that and bring up things like Darillium or the time 11 spent mourning the Ponds or 12 working at the university and I defo understand where that POV is coming from but I think for me there is a difference between those and 14’s ending because 14’s ending is really just as simple as he is living on Earth pretty much permanently with the odd trip away and that’s just his life now whereas with all the others there was bigger things going on that the Doctor simply staying at a place because they feel like it. Darillium is probably the closest to being like 14 but I cannot imagine 12 and River just spent 24 years doing nothing, I’m sure they travelled during that time. And then 12 at the Uni had watching vault duties and 11 was in deep mourning. 14’s ending is a lot more simple y'know and focused specifically on his recovery and just living his best life.

Misc

The TODAY text that came up when we first saw 14 and Donna was so unnecessary. It’s 100% the kind of thing Chibnall would've got shit for bc ppl have a weird hatred for his location texts but I haven’t really seen anymore mention it even though it’s defo the worst location text the show has seen

I am obsessed with the music when 14 first appears in the ep and when they first meet the Toymaker in the shop, it’s so good. I’m not that happy about Murray Gold being back bc it’s suuuuuch a ‘getting the band back together’ thing like omg just hire some new ppl but I’ve always liked his stuff so whatever I guess

I like when the Doctor calls out about people and how they love to poison and hate each other like yeah, the Doctor loves humans but also he can see how shit we are at the same time, and calling those things out specifically was just really good imo idk

Idk why Mel was in this tbh like I have no attachment to her so I can’t even say it was nice to see her bc I don’t know her. All she did was sing a song, hold 14’s hand and carry a box around. I feel like she could’ve been used better. I’m hoping she gets used better the next time we see her. Also I’ve seen some ppl literally say that she was used better than Ace and Tegan were in POTD and genuinely if you think that you’re an idiot

Giggle Commentary Misc

Russell said something like there’s proof Ncuti has the real TARDIS because he’s sure people will worry but um.. Why would people worry about it?

DT says in there that he didn’t make a conscious effort to play 14 differently to 10 and I find that baffling for two reasons - first because he FELT different, so the fact he wasn’t trying to be is kinda impressive and second because I’m like surely you know the character has changed over that time? Like I know 14 is essentially 10 but he is 10 with 1000+ years of extra baggage and not taking that into consideration when going into the part is borderline unprofessional? Naive? Embarrassing? Makes me think he wasn’t taking the story/character seriously? Idek. I find it strange. RTD’s fault too, I’m sure. Though the fact 14 feels a bit different is in part to do with the scripts etc

Also in the commentary they were laughing at the idea of DT coming back and playing the Doctor differently and like, I get it, obviously the excitement about him coming back was because people love 10 and the story they told made it make sense he was acting a lot like 10 but to laugh off the idea of him playing it differently is CRAZY, there’s surely interesting stuff that coulda been done there. Like one day an actor coming back to the role as a main incarnation and playing it completely different to how they played it the first time round and having a completely new arc etc would be really cool imo

I love seeing the Doctor be high on regen energy when they first regenerate, it’s one of the best parts of seeing a new Doctor, but I also kinda agree that it’s nice to do something different and seeing 14 and 15 interact with each other was 10/10. I do hope the next regeneration is a back to basics one though after two fuckeries in a row.

i guess catradora and skk are actually kind of similar in their set up in that you have two children who’ve grown up basically like soldiers of their organisations but are still incredibly close until one of them somehow realises that there’s a world of good out there and deflects to join the “light”.

from there on out there are quite a lot of differences, mostly because skk aren’t actually the main pairing of the show (sskk is) while catradora are the central conflict dynamic of shera.

as much as the fandom loves him, chuuya really is a side character, and even though we know that he knows what’s going on in the mafia and he knows mori (in that he’s not blind to the things mori’s doing but he recognises that he’s a good boss and works willingly for him) his innermost thoughts about the pm aren’t really explored in the main story - at least not on the same level as catra’s are.

catra’s the half of catradora that stays on the evil side (to start off with). i watched it a while ago so i don’t remember exactly but i believe that she either doesn’t realise that the evil side of evil or doesn’t realise the extent of their evil for a long time, mostly bc her “mori” is this toxic mother gothel type figure called shadow weaver (again, kids show, not subtle) who she’s been actively neglected by giving her an insane need to deliver results and impress her and their overarching boss (which eventually becomes her taking over power)

sorry for the rant - i know you said you’re not gonna watch it which - fair enough, i was definitely not the target demographic when i saw it and it definitely tested my patience at times - but i thought that if you like skk you may be interested in the way catradora’s dynamic works too (and plus i forgot how much i loved this show and just really wanted to ramble abt it)

for anyone planning to watch one day at a time for lesbian rep, they should also know numerous ppl make lowkey homophobic comments to the girl who's a lesbian that are never challenged("we know youre gay but do u have to act so gay?" type shit as well as her mom like. ughh, there's a whole episode where her mom is just really homophobic and in the end shes like "i may be thinking these things but its ok because i sould never say them to her and anyway my daughter coming out was an understandable shock") and also that the main family says some rlly racist shit( specifically their grandmother repeatedly saying theyre the "good kind of cubans" bc they're white, as well as referencing her family being invokved in the plantations where they lowkey owned black and brown ppl as a good thing, lots of pro us military bullshit as well, like, extremely,.) and that's never treated as a real issue either, just something to laugh at. so yea h. just throwing it out there because a lot of ppl recommended the show to me but being a brown lesbian, well, lol, lets just say it sucks to have to realize on tthe show that's being recommended to u for being "so progressive" and "such great latino rep" is racist af and repeatedly has homophobic insinuations about like, the only regularly seen queer character on the show. i lowkey doubt you'll post this anon, bc most ppl dont give af but. id appreciate it.

No, actually you’re right. When I said it was a good lesbian rep I was mainly talking about Elena, not how the other characters treat her or how they see her identity, it’s very very rare seeing lesbians being represented in a more positive way, not fetishizing or anything like that, and the fact that they do use the word lesbian (not as frequently as I’d like to but still better than never) is a huge thing because most lesbian characters are never referred as lesbians.

After I rewatched some episodes there really are some things that bothered me like those you brought up. That particular scene of “acting gay” I did not really like it, I don’t know if the character who said that (from what I remember it was either Alex or Lydia) was actually supposed to sound homophobic or not. But considering that scene is supposed to be funny I do think it’s just a way to kinda mock her. Also that scene of Penelope saying she can think homophobic things about her daughter because as long she doesn’t say anything to her is okay… That sounded so wrong. It’s not okay. Just because you’re not saying those things out loud it doesn’t mean it’s not wrong.

I’ve never actually noticed Lydia said that because they were white… wow. The part of the pro military I can’t really say anything because that’s the most common thing in american movies/shows. It’s very annoying though.

Yeah about being a great latino rep I don’t think it is, I say that as a latina. It’s still very much stereotyped, which is one of the things us latinos hate about how gringos see us. Tbh I don’t think I’ve ever seen good latino rep in american movies and shows.

Considering the show is still pretty much (from what I know) made by Americans for Americans, I’ve never really expected great rep from it.

We've been catching up on some TV recently 😄

Obi-Wan Knobie

I thought the series was excellent! and think they should do a Season 2. The only problem I had was with his interaction with Leia it kinda doesn't mesh with Episode 4 like when she is leaving the message for him in R2 it like she doesn't know who he is but she should know or remember who Obi-Wan Kenobi is becasue as a kid she spent quite a bit of time with him. that is pretty much my only gripe with the show a continuity error

She-Hulk

I wanted to see this being I'm a fan of the character and I was happy they were going with the funny/silly 4-wall breaking version which is the version of She-Hulk that I like. Now I actually the series was awesome! I enjoyed it alot! I laughed at parts and giggled at parts and did a few eye rolls here and there. Its all very fun I liked the references and the 4 wall breaks I thought Tatiana Maslany was perfect as Jennifer Walters the way they did She-Hulk was awesome I liked how they kept her origin somewhat close to the comics love the Cameos and thought Tim Roth is still killing it as Abomination. but like I said I enjoyed the series and as a comic reader I have to say that the show is very She-Hulk very similar to the comics.

Ms.Marvel

Now next we watched Ms.Marvel now I can't say I know alot about the Kamala Khan version of Ms.Marvel being I didn't and haven't been reading her series. the Ms.Marvel I grew up with was Carol Danvers Ms.Marvel before she became Captain Marvel. but like I said I know the basics about Kamala Khan from her team-ups and guest appearances in other books. the show is really good it has the fun almost silliness to it but at the same time a very seriousness as well similar to how Spider-Man: Homecoming was it had that same feel as that movie almost. there was some funny moments and some nice action and visuals and speaking of which I knew they changed her powers for live action and she is no longer "stretchy" with her shape shifting powers in the show she is now more like the MCU version of Green Lantern where she puts on a The bangle and it gives her the power to create Hardlight constructs similar to what a Lantern Ring does also there was one thing that bothered me the "Bad Guy" in this were suppose to be djinn but they didn't seem to have any type of magical powers? you would think they would? djinn are suppose to be magical creatures aren't they? also another thing the ending I remember ppl saying that the '97 X-Men animated theme is heard during a scene but I didn't hear anything I watched the scene like 3 times and couldn't hear anything. other then that I thought it was a good and fun show.

Moon Knight

and finally on the Marvel side of things we watched Moon Knight. I know a lil bit more about the character the Kamala Khan's Ms.Marvel. I thought the series was really great plenty of action and adventure and some funny moments I thought I thought the visuals for this were also really well done and kinda impressively cool at times. One thing tho I did feel at a few moments during the series it felt a bit disjointed but got back on track quickly it was like it hit a "speedbump" for a minute. I also think Oscar Isaac was great as Moon Knight and he pulled off the somewhat craziness that the character is know for perfectly! the duality that they do in this was excellent. but yeah I thought it was great and a good introduction for the character into the MCU

Now after watching all three Marvel shows I thought they were all really good and I enjoyed them all but I would have to say I enjoyed She-Hulk the most. I actually thought it was the best of the 3 I probably think that being that I am an actual fan of She-Hulk but also I thought it was witty and funny and full of all kinds of moments and things that I enjoy like comic references and Easter eggs and also I felt it was very close to the actual comics so I'd say I liked it the most.

Also I watched Werewolf by Night now that is something I thought I would never see in live action! but it was pretty great! I liked the whole B&W aesthetic where it looked like a 1950's monster movie that was great! and I loved how they did Man-Thing (aka "Ted") he was perfect! it was a great an somewhat funny introduction of the character into the MCU and I like how they had him use his acidic/burning touch thing too. but it was a good lil special I do wonder if this will have any connections to the upcoming Blade movie?

call me a skeptic, but i do not want to get my hopes up for byler, lol. i would go crazy for it if it actually happens, but idk, i’ve been let down too many times before... my heart can’t take more clownery. but the cast has been acting so sus about them that at this point, it would be blatant baiting if they didn’t get together🤔 tbh i didn’t even realize byler was a thing until season 4. i suppose i was oblivious to it until it was pointed out to me. so i wonder what a general audience is thinking -- the ppl who are not Extremely Online and involved in the fandom. will they be expecting it? and what about mileven? something tells me that will would be the one to confess first, but then mike would get all defensive and afraid of facing his true feelings that he would sideline will and go back to eleven. maybe the show would initially do that and then in the next season have byler get together, idk. and we can’t forget about eleven’s feelings... i wonder if she’d resent will for “taking mike away” from her? do you think she even knows gay ppl exist😳 yeah, as much as i want to see it, i don’t envision them immediately getting together. i’m calculating their current chances as a snowball in hell. i would love to be wrong though.

that being said i AM on my ronance bullshit lmao. it’s funny bc when i watched the first and second seasons a few years ago, i was all about jancy, i was glad to see them get together. and now, on my most recent rewatch in preparation for ST4, i felt 100% indifference for them. i truly couldn’t care less whether nancy chooses jonathan or steve. thankfully my girl robin came the fuck through in this season so all eyes are currently on ronance. i don’t expect nancy to have like a full bi awakening tho -- if byler has a snowball’s chance, ronance is like a snowflake on the snowball. it’s always hard judging “will they or won’t they” in some of these newer shows, because the second you think you know the show’s direction and feel confident, they pull some bullshit (cough killing eve cough cough supergirl supernatural).

what i can see happening in vol 2 is robin at least acknowledging her feelings for nancy. i’m envisioning vickie coming back and actually asking robin out on a date or something. and rob is internally doing backflips, but after a while of going out, she realizes she no longer has feelings for vickie but instead has a crush on nancy. or maybe in the initial moment that vickie asks robin out, rob is elated but ultimately disappointed because she has to tell vickie she “has feelings for someone else” (nance). maybe some life-or-death moment happens to all of them and that’s what makes rob realize she’s down bad (don’t even talk to me about that leaked pic of her in vecna’s vines).

i don’t know if i see her coming out to nancy just yet, bc i can’t decide whether that would be the moment rob reveals her crush, or if she would just decide to tell her ‘hey i’m into girls.’ another moment i’m envisioning: nancy questioning robin as to why she and steve aren’t dating. bc yes rob and steve keep saying they’re just friends, but nance, being her smart and curious self, wants to know more. so she asks for more and rob says something like “oh he’s not my type” “i’m not interested in dating atm” “i’m into someone else” some bs answer that just has nance ask more questions. i think maybe rob would end up coming out that way or revealing her crush or something. idk idk just some thoughts.

i’ve seen some ppl say that robin acts like a “different character” this season compared to last, and on first watch i was like yeah she seems a bit more talkative/quirky/upbeat. so i rewatched season 3, and i remembered that the show had her as the “cool girl” character LOL. i gave it some thought, and i came up with the headcanon that rob was probably depressed in season 3, and then in the year between ST3 and ST4, she became closer friends with steve and started feeling better. there’s also the concept that she’s autistic, so she could’ve stopped masking her autistic traits as she became more comfortable around steve. THEN i listened to the rebel robin podcast (netflix did a podcast that’s basically a series of meetings and conversations robin has with her favorite teacher, set in the first season. there’s a book that goes along with it too) and my headcanon was essentially proved right. poor rob was the saddest most awkward little thing in her sophomore year omg. she was so insecure and depressed and had no friends and constantly emphasized how she felt different from everyone else in school. it pained me to listen at some parts. she talked about how hawkins was suffocating her and how she had to escape the “monster” of the town (the monster being the neurotypical-heteronormative-conformism that makes up their community). and now in ST4... now my girl is doing so much better. she is so different from the podcast, making friends, out to someone who accepts her... so she fucking BETTER NOT die. or i will be very emotional (i lowkey want her to get vecna’d just for the angst and also to find out her favorite song. but after that yall better pull her ass BACK to the GROUND).

another thing robin mentioned in the podcast is how she used to be friends with barb before barb left her for nancy. and that just makes me sad for both rob and nance. sad for rob bc of her struggle to keep friends (and how do you think she reacted upon finding out barb was dead? in the podcast she was convinced barb ran away and “escaped the monster”🙁), and sad for nance bc she has grown so close to robin this season -- i’m convinced it’s bc rob reminds her of barb. they’re probably each others’ only close female friend since barb and of course nance doesn’t want to make the same mistakes and lose rob too😭

overall, ronance and byler are the only two ships i’m invested in. jopper is basically a guarantee so i’m not too worried (as long as neither of them dies). lumax getting back together would be cute. honorable mention to elmax. um that’s it lol. i’m currently pointing and giggling at anyone who thinks steddie has any basis in reality... they are the tip of the snowflake on the snowball.

i wonder why playing a favorite song is what gets through to vecna’s victims. it makes me think of how people with dementia/alzheimer’s are known to perform better on memory tests and show improved mood when listening to songs that have a strong connection to them, like music from early childhood or their teen years. so maybe there’s a correlation there. if anything, it just makes me want to know what everyone’s favorite song is, but i don’t want to have all these different characters vecna’d just to find that out😐

i doubt if she’ll be in vol 2 but you know who should come back? kali. we haven’t heard peep from her since ST2 and she seems like such an important character in eleven’s narrative to confine to one episode only. it seemed like the approach kali took in using her powers wasn’t sustainable over a long period of time, and i wouldn’t be surprised if none of the gang she rode with were still around. i’d love for her and eleven to reunite. they could easily combine their powers to face whatever comes in ST5.

i’ve heard that season 5 is gonna skip forward in time a bit. i hope they skip to 1989, because 1. it would catch up closest to the actual ages of the youngest actors, and 2. there is a lot of fuckin good music that came out in ‘89. ‘86-’88 as well, but i’m partial to ‘89 lol.

finally... the duffers confirmed that vol 2 is gonna have a “body count” ??? i’m Very Scared, but here’s who i think is safe and why, and i’ll put an asterisk by who i think is most at risk: will or mike - that would effectively be bury your gays at this point, and the cast and crew are making too big a deal of byler to have either die; eleven* - everyone is fucked without her, buuuut; lucas or erica - um the show damn well better not bc they are the only black characters; max - we just saw her fight for her life against vecna so i don’t see the point in having her die; dustin* - tbh he’s been lucky. maybe a little too lucky...; jonathan* - we already almost lost will and the byers’ are fragile as is, but i have a bad feeling about him; nancy* - y’know i’m drawing a blank for what’s keeping her safe. but i’ll be so damned if the duffers touch a HAIR on her head; robin - bury your gays; steve - fan favorite (tho i won’t be surprised if they do kill him); joyce - provides for will and jon, hopper loves her. would just be fucking sad; hopper - already had death scare + too much screentime spent on getting him out of russia; brenner* - omg let’s hope; owens* - i got nothing; murray or jason - not characters i care about but i think having them die would be pointless; vickie - hell if i know. but if they kill her it would just be for shock value and i would be pissed (see: bury your gays); eddie - another fan favorite. since so much time has been dedicated to saving his ass, i think he’s safe; argyle - go make pizzas and smoke weed, man.
