thinking about random moments shared in the jamie tartt x psych major!reader fic i have in my head... just cute shit tbh

okay so the reader has been with the Richmond club for a solid few months, she’s a familiar face and friendly to the team but not super close with everybody, minus Colin and surprisingly,,, Jamie hehe

the team seems to be having a serious tie-streak going on, and they’re all kinda bummed by it

Ted’s obviously still Ted, unwavering winners mindset that basically means ‘do your best, give yourself a pat, shake it off, and repeat’ - with the addition of a smile ofc!

the reader has been doing readings for her org psych class and knows that raising group morale is necessary but also so so hard.

sometimes motivational speeches just don’t cut it yknow?? sometimes you gotta think outside of the box to fix the vibes and spread positivity

so there she is, standing in the coach’s office with a bluetooth speaker in her hand, nervously waiting for it to be her turn to speak

“Coach Ted,” she calls him in a manner that’s playful but still professional - he’s insisted on just Ted in the past and she’s complied but for serious conversations, she enjoys leading with a ‘subtle sense of professionalism’

“Coach Ted, how do you feel about group cohesion and dance breaks?” she asks, fiddling with the speaker in her hand

“Well darlin, I love a good flash mob. Gosh, those folks must keep in touch, right?” He directs his eyes to Beard, who peaks over his book and replies affirmingly, “a bond has been formed,” causing both you and Ted to smile

“Well, less flash mob but more like... a bi-weekly dance break?” she continues as Ted’s eyes land on her again. “I know the boys are bummed with the tie-streak and I was reading in my org psych textbook about the importance of autonomy in decorating our workspaces, and how group morale helps cohesion which’ll lead to better attitudes and hopefully better performance - not that our performance has been poor, it’s been great, I’m proud of the boys really! But, it sucks to see them bummed out...So maybe a twice-a-week-song-dance-break will lift spirits??”

she’s rambling. she’s nervous!! it’s a good idea tbh but still, sharing means being vulnerable and the potential of getting rejected

Ted politely waits for her to finish, nodding along and then grins, “sounds wonderful darlin! Hey, maybe you can get the boys to give some song suggestions to help with the whole autonomy thing you mentioned.”

she’s happy !! grinning as she steps out to the locker room, dragging out the whiteboard from the corner and scribbling in a lil corner of it

Jamie’s eyes follow her silently. truth be told, they followed her when she entered and disappeared into the coach’s office. but he smiles a lil seeing her grin at herself

when she’s done with the whiteboard, she calls for attention and lets the boys know to write down their suggestions, and she’ll choose two songs for the week randomly!! she emphasizes nervously that it should help according to her textbooks and Jamie is silently nodding, eyes drifting to her hands as she fiddles with the whiteboard marker

Dani is the first to speak, “pardon me, can it be Spanish songs too?” and she smiles really big, “anything you like!!”

Isaac adds, “yea bruv, I fuck wit Bad Bunny” and there’s a wave of approving noises from the rest

SO, the plan has been implemented, and it’s frickin working!!!

the boys always look forward to whose song is chosen - lots of rap, some taylor swift, Work Hard Play Hard makes them go nuts, some musical songs from Colin but it’s okay cause the lads are hyped over Hamilton

Ted gets into it!! dancing!! Dani and Jan Maas share an imaginary mic!! it’s great, but Jamie’s favourite part is seeing her join them in the locker rooms for every dance break grooving to the music

one day SHE chooses the song... “Keep Your Head Up” by Andy Grammer cause the team seemed extra tired and bummed

everyone’s like ??? who chose this?? she’s like ‘me. I did.’

she’s trying to break the tension, so she takes her imaginary mic and goes to Ted, then Colin, then Sam, and soon everyone’s into it - just happily singing and dancing

she somehow ends up next to Jamie, shoulders bumping. she’s swaying as she faces him, playfully mouthing the lyrics to him as he smiles with a slight blush (not that she notices cause she’s blushing too)

they’re both dancing close to each other, and she lightly pokes his chin when the song goes, “you gotta keep your head up”, reaching up to pull down his headband at, “and you can let your hair down,” grinning at him when he’s like ‘hey!! :o... >:)’

the song ends, and they’re still laughing at each other, holding hands...a bit longer than they should tbh hehehe. Jamie loves her energy and kindness, it matches his goofiness and makes him wanna be a better person

but anyways!!! they pull away, hoping no one notices.. some do but don’t say anything

On this here February 1st, I'll be showing some love for the 21st Nova Corps, a unit lead by Marshal Commander Bacara and Jedi General Ki-Adi-Mundi. I couldn't find any other named clones from this unit outside of Bacara, and I haven't written for this guy before, so I'll do some headcanons just for him :)

The 21st Nova Corps

I did a quick dive on Wookiepedia first, and here were some things that stood out to me from what's apparently already been canonized:

The 21st Nova Corps has a reputation for being relentless and exceptionally conditioned/disciplined.

This is in large part due to Bacara having super high expectations, he will kick anyone who doesn't meet them out of the squad, even without Ki-Adi-Mundi's approval.

Actually described as being "at odds with" Mundi, though in another section was said to have a grudging respect for him.

Bacara utilizes aggressive tactics and is extremely strict. He ignores the recommended GAR practice for commanders to remain inconspicuous in battle, and instead chooses to lead his troops from the front.

He's described as a loner and stern. I saw somewhere he was besties with Neyo, too, and they developed combat techniques together.

With that foundation, here are some headcanons I have for him:

Doesn't talk much, but not because he's shy or emotionally constipated. He really only cares about war and rarely meets people who are interested in discussing the topic with as much passion.

Like seriously, he has no other hobbies or interests. Music? Never heard of it. Sports? Boring. Holo-films? Food? Knitting? Yeah no, he's already walking away from this conversation.

If he is comfortable with someone though, he can talk about battle strategies for daaaays.

Fucking hates milk.

Has a mind for improvement. Not quite a perfectionist, he just won't ever settle for "good enough" when something better is still achievable.

Thus, he's constantly working angles in his head, coming up with possible solutions, thinking outside the box. Even for common, everyday situations like getting out of traffic or folding the laundry.

Jason Bourne vibes.

Has one small tattoo on his foot, will never say what it is.

Natural at picking up languages. Fluent in Mando'a but can carry simple conversations in plenty of others.

Spends his R&Rs pouring over wartime history/strategy books in the archives, with a beer.

If someone asked him on a date, he would straight-up say "why?" So confused.

He would be a pretty good partner, though, if he ever opened himself up romantically.

And if he could ever find someone who meets his high standards...

I also read that he was featured on a GAR campaign poster, and I firmly believe he secretly has a massive print of it taped to the back of his closet door.

Can not roll his tongue. Every other clone can and it pisses him off.

Has the best laugh you've ever heard in your life. He does use it occasionally, but very randomly. Not even his squad has been able to work out what exactly his sense of humor is.

His squad... All are just as intense and passionate as their commander. When they're not fighting, they're training to fight. There's no room for shenanigans or relaxing.

Other clones keep a respectful distance. They know the Nova Corps get sent to some pretty hardcore places.

Most of them have never set foot in 79s, or any bar for that matter.

Bacara goes every once in a while, because he does like a good beer, but he's very out of place. Just... kinda sits there... not doing anything...

He gets hit on a lot because he's smoking hot but has never taken anyone home. Not opposed to the idea of getting laid, but it would take a lot to catch his eye.

Eeeevery once in a while, when life gets a little too still and his thoughts wander past all the combat tactics and weapon factoids that are usually in the way, a deep and vulnerable feeling makes its way to the surface and almost cripples him: loneliness.

He has no idea what to do about it, so rather than face it like he would a charging battalion of droids, he instead pushes it right back down and moves on.

Okay but now I'm imagining Queer Eye showing up to help Bacara find some hobbies and a girlfriend 😂

The Gardens of Ynn is a point-crawl adventure set in an ever-shifting extradimensional garden. Each expedition randomly generates a new route as it explores, resulting in different vistas being unlocked with every visit.

The adventure is a perfect zero prep session or campaign for any party of fantasy adventurers, no matter the system or the sub-genre. We found most ‘zero-prep’ adventures to be bland and lacking in colour, so in Gardens of Ynn every room, encounter and monster is popping with vibes. It's a big garden full of whimsy and delight and surreal perils.

The Gardens of Ynn is statted generically for Old School Systems, making it easily transposed into any fantasy system of your choosing!

Hello everyone! I am pleased to share a great event we had in our Comrade Coe's Spouses discord server for Valetine's Day!

This server is full of wonderful creatives who all share one thing in common, our love for Starfield. Okay...maybe two and our love for the bisexual single dad space cowboy! We love to support each other in our creative endeavors and to showcase this this post is going to have all the pieces from our Valetine's Day Art Trade!

Each person who signed up was randomly paired with another. We had a channel to fill out a small form of what they preferred, what they were willing to create, and their do's and don'ts in receiving other creations! We allowed about 8 weeks for people to discuss, plan, and create their own masterpieces!

You almost died. Sam's grateful you're alive.

“Wait until Constellation hears about this,” you say, accompanied by a shaky laugh. “I wonder if they’ll even believe us.” He shakes his head. “They should, they don’t have to. We were there. We survived. You survived. That’s all that matters in my book.” His realism brings your gaze to the table, though a swirl of gratitude rises in the back of your mouth, coming out in a weak smile. This was nice. Peaceful, but not enough. There was still untouched territory to discuss. You lift your head, eyes soft and sincere. Unsure. “I wouldn’t be here without your help, Sam.” A pink flush spreads across his cheeks as he smiles. Averting his gaze, his pupils dart across the wall, and you notice they focus on nothing in particular. He shuts his eyes, and you suspected he was replaying the evening. You cock your head, curious. If you could pry open the contents of Sam Coe’s brain, you would, and you would soak up everything about that man, a fact you hadn’t truly believed until tonight.

Delgado is tired of Ghoul not resting so he takes matters into his own hands. His attempt means trying to teach her a new hobby.

She chuckles and he chooses not to engage any longer. He’s been toyed with enough. Even if that’s what they do. Argue and bicker. Pull their claws and bare their fangs until eventually he walks away with enough of his pride beaten down, dragging his ego behind him a little broken and worse for wear. It happens often enough that he can’t say he always comes out the winner. But he is weary of the game today. He wants to be nice. Try to be nice. He is determined to be nice. Another step and he reaches around her head and tugs at the blindfold. The knot unravels. Unfurls. He removes it in one smooth motion, tossing it to the floor. Then he thumbs her chin, tilting her head up to get a good glimpse of her. He gazes into her citrine eyes. The warm glow from his hanging lamp, hovering over the tall snake tongued leaves of the sansevieria in the corner of the room, reflects off her irises and they glimmer and shine just like a gemstone. Thoughts waxing poetic, he blinks them away before he speaks them aloud. “I wanted to surprise you.” He releases her chin.

Seren and Sam run into a little bit more excitement than they expected when taking down Tawny Adams...

Sam leaned against the wall. "We having fun yet?" He was breathing a little harder than usual; she gave him a quick once-over, but his suit seemed intact. He caught her look and gave her the grin she'd come to love. "I know you like what you see," he purred, "but maybe look a little less like you want to rip my suit right off until we're done? Mercs might get the wrong idea." Seren couldn't help but laugh. "Arse," she growled. "And a fine one," he agreed. "Though yours," he eyed her up and down, "might be even finer. Pity that your suit hides it, or we could do a real close comparison. Hands-on, even." "Focus, Sam," she reminded him, hitting the 'cycle' button. "Bad guys that way." "I am focused," he said, sounding innocent as the day was long. (In the case of this misbegotten little moon, that was only 4.5 UT hours, so… not all that innocent.) "I'm just a busy man. I have to work in all that quality time of thinking about me and you."

Draco Malfoy Headcanons

(Because it's time for the revival of my Harry Potter phase)

Hey so,, Hi. This blog has been sat postless for too long so to hell with waiting to think of aesthetic things to post. Have some Draco headcanons because I've been having crazy brainrot recently. Hope you enjoy~

(this is assuming he isn't an absolute prick like he was intended to be in the books.)

- Dimples. He has the cutest damn dimples anyone has ever seen. People don't often see them because he doesn't smile quite bright enough, but they're there and it's vv cute.

- Silver jewelry. Mostly rings. There's a couple that he never takes off but then he has afew that he switches out depending on what he's wearing.

- Speaking of clothes,, bro has a stupidly good sense of fashion. If you want an honest opinion on an outfit, go to this man. As for himself, he takes forever in the morning to choose the perfect outfit, and he always looks good.

- Has a thing for glasses, inexplicably so. He just finds them generally adorable. For some reason though, he does find thick-rimmed glasses much cuter.

^^ To follow up on that, he also does random things for his partner if they have glasses like pushing them up or randomly taking the glasses and cleaning them.

- With his partner, his arm always manages to find its way around their waist. He finds it very comforting to keep them so close, plus it's a sort of instinct. It's very cute if he's just with his partner in the library looking for books and his arm snakes its way around them.

- If, miraculously, he knows any Muggle music, it's definitely stuff from the 60s and 70s. Probably jazz in particular. He just gives those vibes.

^^ Favourites are probably Frank Sinatra and maybe Elvis??

- Building upon him knowing about Muggle stuff, I feel like he'd really enjoy slushies?? Maybe it's in a streak of rebellion against his father's perfect vision for Draco, but he loves a slushie. His favourite is probably blue raspberry, though he hates that it makes his tongue bright blue.

- Since Narcissa is probably quite busy alot (rich people things idk-), so when he was younger Draco learnt how to style hair. He does his mother's hair pretty often and he's actually very good at doing it. His speciality is probably braids; quite easy to learn at a young age and you can do lots with them.

^^ Because of this, if you have long hair and you're a close friend of his, you best believe he'll style your hair for you if you ask. He even carries around a couple of hair bands in case.

If his partner has long hair, he loves to just play with it and run his hands through their hair to relax. He also randomly does little braids in their hair, and finds it quite theraputic.

- Poor thing probably has some kind of anxiety. I think it gets worsened by the pressure his dad most definitely puts on him. Draco always seems abit fidgety when it gets close to the Christmas and Summer holidays because he has to go back to such high expectations n such. (Poor boy :((( )

They do bad things..after a few days, you already got used to it?.. until one day, you were talking to one of the crew. and a random attacked came in, she looked at you, her instincts was to..protect you immediately.

at that time, she just.. randomly became your big sister. She takes care of you, protects you

"hey y/n..do you know when your coming back?" that voice snapped her back to reality. Chopper asked "when were you coming back..?" She looked at you, with slightly wide eyes, she couldn't let you go back..no..you did so great in this ship..thanks to you they still have food for the next week..! Thanks to you..more reasons came to her mind why she shouldnt let you go back..to that..world of yours. "..I don't know exactly..but I think when I feel the same symptoms when I got here,I guess..that's when?" You responded. Slightly hopeful you still can come back, on the other hand, she felt the opposite, she's.. devasted? Disappointed? A mix of that..a lot of emotion she didn't knew she could feel. why were you coming back? "Well can you..like..choose to stay? Or just when you feel it you just automatically come back?" She asked, she wanted to ask more, a lot of questions came to her mind that was left unanswered. "I don't know..but I hope I can come back here again!" You said, smiling so bright that oh she loved so damn much. She wanted to protect that damn smile everytime..

It has been a week, and the you felt the "symptoms" coming back, you told everyone you had a week to come back in your real world, saying this also happened before when you came here.

She walked away, going back to her room, she felt..upset, devasted..she thought of how to..stop all of this, she searched and searched and searched

Until she found this old..book, "Going Back Time" she read it, and it's exactly what happened, instructions how to stop to go back-. That's when her eyes was filled with such happiness, and hope, if this works..you won't be mad right..it just takes a bit of time..she just need to..erase your memories..! That's all.. that was all..? A grin was forming to her face as she walked out the room.

NICO ROBIN

She didn't quite trust you, just yet. But of course, after she realized you have so much in common, reading books, studying on free time.. She had this vibe, a big sister vibe, a protective but caring, gentle sister vibe. You liked it, Then why come back?

Why do you have to come back, to your real world? Don't you like it here? You already joined. No turning back now.. Pirates don't like it when their own treasure is leaving, or gone. Don't you love it here? Here you can be calm, relaxed.

But another thing you didn't mention, things you don't like, the way she glance to you, the stare she gives you, it's like its telling you "That's enough." And it makes you stop talking, she smile at you everytime it works. She doesn't really give you.. Your own time, if you take things slow, not stressing about the deadline. Oh, she'll be impatient, she gives you.. A good amount of days to finish it.

lonely. You trust her a lot, giving her secrets but everytime you "misbehave" and by I mean by misbehave, talking to much, relaxing a bit to much.. Taking your time.

She uses your secrets to.. Simply blackmail you, misbehave once more and you'll eventually be hearing your secrets being talked about.

FRANKY

Oh? Who's this little one? Are you new here? A thousand of question was asked by the cyborg. You were a bit pressured by the question, but you lied your way out of it. And eventually, your answers have catch the cyborg's attention.

You knew a bit about.. Mechanical things.. Is what he said. You said, in your world, Your science teacher teach it.

He was amazed, he can't help but want to know more about you, things happened, he wouldn't let you get hurt, he's always by your side drinking his favorite drink, cola, if he has free time, He builds you your room. Making sure it has a lock that he can only open.

He prepares everything in your room of course, a bed.. Anything. Once you realized you were finally going back, you wanted to tell others, and say goodbye.. Once you tried

Opening your door, it wouldn't. You called someone and tried to get the doorknob twist. Locked.. Until Franky opened it, he was caught surprise by you trying to open the door, he didn't mind it and let you out. Once you informed them your going back to your world... And it's optional. Franky tried to make you.. Stay, he begged, he gave you reasons silently by actions.

Once you picked that.. You missed your real world, everyone was upset but understood, but Franky was just upset. He gave you reasons.. He build you a room, and put everything in it.. Once you've go to your room, it was immediately locked. Franky was mad, upset.

If he had to hurt you to stay, he will.

It's true what they say about writing what you want, no matter what people say.

There was this book. Skellig, in english, in the original. I first read it when I was nine, maybe, and our school temporarily had some books we could loan.That was the first book I ever read where I wasn't sure whether I liked it or not, but it made me think and feel and I was glad to have read it. I gave it to my dad, too. We both weren't sure whether we liked it as such. But it was a good book.

Now, what feels like ages later, I randomly remembered its existence. It's been years and this book stuck with me all this time. While searching for it online (it doesn't exist as new edition anymore, and nobody had the one I read back then, which is kinda a shame because that cover was also amazing), I found a site with reviews. Yeah. Anyways, I got a second hand copy of the book. I just read it. It's not long. And it still makes me think and feel and there's so much I forgot but the vibe is still exactly the same and I know that I love it.

It's an amazig book. I know some random person complained that the characters weren't relatable; personally, I'm in love with them.That's just what it feels like to be a kid who thinks too much. I don't know.

Anyways, it's a good book. I don't know why I even red those reviews They didn't even bother to to think about it at all; declared subjective reasons and then said the book was objectively bad. But like. Those people exist. I don't care. Those people don't matter.

Skellig is a wonderful story. I loved it as a kid, and now, as a teen, and it's a story that may or may not have influenced the way I think, a lot. I know it will influence my stories now. It makes me think.

There's bad faith readers. But they don't matter. I think it might be one of my favourite books, if I had to choose any.

Why do you like or dislike this character? i like grooves because he has a lot of complexity to his character. i like that he's not JUST outwardly nice and has selfish qualities to him. it's just very interesting to talk about and explore. though i also love that he's completely earnest in his behavior too.

Favorite canon thing about this character? i think it's probably how he was voice acted that REALLY makes me like his character and find it to be effective. his VA has a lot of range and portrays his character very well.

Least favorite canon thing about this character? i always agonize about this but i wish he got more of a role in the game beyond his chapter. especially because if you choose conductor as the winner, grooves' character is basically forgotten from there on out. i just wish he at least had more of a presence in the finale of the game, seeing as all the other characters get something to say but he didn't. Caught in agonies of indecision, I turned to the internet and asked "what should I read next?". Most of what I found was recommendation lists or tools, which was less than ideal. I already have a to-read list that would take ten years or more to complete. I wasn't looking for new book recs but for help making a choice.

In the end, I found a suggestion that appealed: hit 'shuffle' in my preferred music player and choose a book that matches the ~vibes~ of the randomly selected song. I listened to Fear and Delight by The Correspondents, and decided to read The Henchmen of Zenda by K.J. Charles.

Very fun method, I may use it again.

100 Albums // 2024

One of my resolutions for 2024 was to sit down and listen to more albums (mostly) uninterrupted from beginning to end. Here is where I'm compiling those albums + my thoughts on them as I go.

How I'm choosing the albums: most of these are "I randomly found one song off this album, I've been meaning to listen to more". But some are just iconic, genre-defining albums that I know I'm doing myself a disservice by not listening to yet. Some are also suggestions!

How I'm rating them: this is PERSONAL TASTE ONLYYYYYY. Some albums I acknowledge will be impossible to rate this way, but for the most part I am JUST rating based on MY taste. I'm trying to be open minded to any and all genre's but I'm aware my tastes lean indie.

1. Self-Titled - Bon Iver (2011)

Rating: 4/10

Fav Songs: Holocene, Towers, Wash

Notes: I like a handful of Bon Iver songs but I haven't really listened to his stuff, much. I REALLY wanted this whole album to be like "Holocene" but overall it's pretty... Meh, save a few songs. The bits I enjoyed were experimental aspects that remind me of my favorite song of his off another album, "33 God". I will listen to that album at some point. I haven't given up on Bon Iver anyway.

2. Get to Heaven (Deluxe) - Everything Everything (2015)

Rating: 8/10

Fav Songs: The Wheel (is turning now), Only As Good as my God, Blast Doors

Notes: I LOVE this album. A friend of mine put "Only As Good As My God" on a playlist for me a few years ago, I've been obsessed with it ever since, and most of the album is just as good if not better. I really enjoy the religious imagery and overall messaging. Not every song totally landed, though, which is why it's only an 8/10.

3. Nearer My God - Foxing (2018)

Rating: 6/10

Fav Songs: Nearer My God, Five Cups, Lambert

Notes: I listened to this album on a rainy Sunday morning while finishing up a book, and I'd say that's the perfect way to listen to it. Solid mellow vibes and sweeping, yet gentle instrumentals- nothing that really stands out or knocked my socks off, either.

4. The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess - Chappell Roan (2023)

Rating: 9/10

Fav Songs: Pink Pony Club, HOT TO GO!, Red Wine Supernova

Notes: I love "Pink Pony Club" so much and the rest of the album does not disapoint. High points are danceable, low songs still catchy as fuck. One part Madonna, part Lemon Demon?? Its just great. However, I think the opening song 'FEMININOMENON' is awful. I couldn't even finish it. Only thing keeping this album from a 10/10.

5. Born in the U.S.A. - Bruce Springsteen (1984)

Rating: 🫡/10

Fav Songs: Downbound Train, No Surrender, Dancing in the Dark

Notes: I won't even try to rate this album because it's so classic and contextual. I really love it though- especially with an eye on the way Springsteen satirizes, critiques, yet appreciates masculinity. It's crazy to me that people really listen and take him at face value- True Patriotic Americanism- ignoring any obvious commentary on war, the working class, racism... Anyway, he's good! I already knew it but this really gave me a deeper appreciation.

6. Fine Line - Harry Styles (2019)

Rating: 4/10

Fav Songs: Cherry, Fine Line, Adore You

Notes: Another tame background listen. A few bangers but the rest is very meh. Also included my second song skip on this list so far (Canyon Moon) which is never great. I will probably not listen to any more Harry, but maybe.

7. Mystére - La Femme (2016)

Rating: 7/10

Fav Songs: Ou ve la Monde, Sphynx, Mycose

Notes: First foreign language AND rec album for an artist that I'd never listened to! Really cool stuff here, very experimental- some of it is more straightforward electronica, some of it almost 60s sounding Halloween beats, some psychedelic rock- but I enjoyed almost all of it!!

8. Put Yourself Back Together - Real Friends (2013)

Rating: 3/10

Fav Songs: Skin Deep, I've Given Up On You

Notes: Chose a short one to end January on 8 albums, but I found this album tremendously disappointing. All in a row like this, the whininess of Real Friends REALLY starts to grate after about 3 songs. And its way beyond your usual pop punk whininess, too. By the albums end I was so grateful it was over. I've Given Up On You still goes hard, though.

9. Self-Titled - Vagabon (2019)

Rating: 7/10

Fav Songs: Flood, Full Moon in Gemini, Water Me Down

Notes: This album is objectively good, but the best songs are unfortunately the ones I had already stumbled on. That isn't to say there wasn't some treasures to be found- and on continued listens I think "In A Bind" could grow higher in my tastes. Overall, pretty damn good!

10. The Slow Rush - Tame Impala (2020)

Rating: 9/10

Fav Songs: Borderline, Breathe Deeper, On Track

Notes: GREAT album. I used to really not understand the draw of Tame Impala, then one day I heard Eventually and it clicked. This album does not disapoint. Even the songs that don't stand out are so fucking funky, it's impossible to not vibe. I listened to this while cleaning the kitchen at work and I was half-dancing through parts of it. Great stuff. I'll listen to Currents at some point, too.

11. Pin-Up Daddy - Rett Madison (2021)

Rating: 10/10

Fav Songs: Pin-Up Daddy, God is a Woman, Emily

Notes: Finally... a 10/10 album. Pin-Up Daddy is a song that impacted me very deeply upon first listen, and the rest of this is just as emotionally gutting. First album of this list to bring me to tears. Definately not a listen-in-the-background album, Rett demands involvement in the stories she is painting you.

12. You Are All I See - Active Child (2011)

Rating: 7.5/10

Fav Songs: Hanging On, High Priestess, You Are All I See

Notes: A friend recommended 'Hanging On' to me an eternity ago and it's been a go-to "in my feels" song since. This album is really good- mixing R&B flawlessly with 80s synth, and add this mans beautiful, Bon Iver-esque falsetto, its a dream. However, the worst bits of this album are definately where he's trying to... *Sound* more black than he is. Lol. There's really no nice way to say it. Also! This album led me to Ellie Gouldings cover of "Hanging On", and this next bomb of an album...

13. Halcyon - Ellie Goulding (2012)

Rating: 1/10

Fav Songs: Hanging On

Notes: think I've avoided this album subconsciously. "Lights" is a 10/10 album for me, but this albums single track "Anything Can Happen" is probably one of my most hated songs of the 2010s. Its awful. And I'm sorry to report that the rest of this album is just as bad- giving "overproduced" a new standard, in the meantime losing every appealing and unique thing about Ellie Gouldings ARTISTRY in "Lights". The dubstep beat running through the background of every GD song is SO grating and was actually starting to piss me off. "Joy" is my third skip of this list, it's so intolerably corny. The gem keeping this album from a total 0 is her cover of "Hanging On", which is very different from the original but seems to be the only song that she put even an OUNCE of Pussy into.

14. Miss Universe - Nilüfer Yanya (2019)

Rating: 7.5/10

Fav Songs: Heavyweight Champion of the Year, Baby Blu, Safety Net

Notes: Great album that I listened to while deep-cleaning at work. Its high energy makes it good for cleaning, and I really enjoyed the pacing/content of the album breaks. Really atmospheric. Her vocal range is just INSANE too and you can really feel the impact of Turkish music on her sound.

15. Self-Titled - Elliott Smith (1995)

Rating: 7/10

Fav Songs: Good to Go, Needle in the Hay, The Biggest Lie

Notes: Another great album for Doing Tasks at work! I've been meaning to get to some Elliott Smith forever- he is, after all, SO influential and an iconic Portland figure. I was really vibing to his stuff- but nothing on this album really jumped to stand out to me. That said- it's amazing how you can feel his influence on many other artists- Phoebe Bridgers, Frank Ocean, Bright Eyes... I especially felt that he was similar in tone to Sufjan, whom I just adore. Another great rec!

16. Self-Titled - Tracy Chapman (1988)

Rating: 💧/10

Fav Songs: Fast Car, Mountain O' Things, Talkin' Bout a Revolution

Notes: I LOVE Fast Car, so I gave this album a listen and I was not disapointed. I don't know why I wasn't expecting it to be SO political when, in my opinion, Fast Car is VERY political. But Tracy has a lot to say about being black, being poor, being a woman- not even to mention being gay! In the 80s!! This was trangressive and inspiring stuff then, and I can't possibly rate it now- except to say that this album is excellent, worth a listen, and contains so much more than just Fast Car can offer.

17. Fantastic Planet - Failure (1996)

Rating: 5/10

Fav Songs: Dirty Blue Balloons, Saturday Savior

Notes: This was another blind suggestion for a band I've never even heard of! Overall, it was very cool and super different from my usual stuff. As it is, I'm a bit more into softer grunge/shoegaze, myself- but that said, this album has a lot to offer musically, and I even watched a biographical video on Failure afterwards, because I was so interested in their production process. This album also REALLY made me want to listen to a full Tool album, so...

18. Lateralus- TOOL (2001)

Rating: 8/10

Fav Songs: Schism, The Grudge, Reflection

Notes: This album rules. I got stoned as hell and listened to it while doing a mindless task (filling my queue) and it feels like I really heard all the instruments and vocal depth of Tool for the first time. Not every song captured me, but considering Tool is known for their LONG songs, I'm surprised it's as engaging as it is.

19. Crimes of Passion - Pat Benetar (1980)

Rating: 4/10

Fav Songs: Wuthering Heights, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, I'm Gonna Follow You

Notes: This album is certified mid. Her cover of Wuthering Heights is inspired and obviously HMWYBS is iconic, but this album offers little else besides a few decent guitar riffs. Any given song had really clunky lyrics and this is just not as refined as I know Pat Benetar can be.

20. Caught in Still Life - VAULTS (2016)

Rating: 8.5/10

Fav Songs: One Last Night, Cry No More, Hurricane

Notes: Ive been really enjoying 'One Last Night' for years now, so I was more than happy to give this a listen and it didn't disappoint. Vaults basically encapsulates my favorite musical themes; electronic percussion mixed with some pure instrumentals like strings, piano, harps, or chimes, plus clear, lovely vocals... It's just excellent. 8 just because not every song totally landed.

21. Currents - Tame Impala (2015)

Rating: 9/10

Fav Songs: Eventually, Disciples, The Less I Know the Better

Notes: Told you I'd listen to Currents too! I liked this album a tiny bit more than The Slow Rush, I just feel like it was better put together and the flow between songs is perfect. It's just really good.

22. Modus Vivendi - 070 Shake (2020)

Rating: 7/10

Fav Songs: Morrow, Rocketship, The Pines

Notes: I think this is my first hiphop album of this project, which is insane because I love a good hiphop album. This album is a good example of how the flow between songs can really make or break it. I didn't love too many specific, individual songs off this album, but I loved the album structure as a whole which can carry a lot. I also just teally enjoy 070 Shake. Her voice is so pleasant, like bubble wrap to the brain.

23. Proof of Life - Joy Oladokun (2023)

Rating: 8/10

Fav Songs: Changes, Somehow, Friends

Notes: Another album from someone I'd never heard of, and it's great! Joy was recommended to me as someone who likes Taylor Swifts 'Folklore' album. I would not say it's very much like Folklore, but it was still wonderful. She has a voice like velvet and a folky way with words. 'Changes' could have been my pandemic anthem.

24. 3.15.20 - Childish Gambino (2020)

Rating: 2/10

Fav Songs: 42.26, 35.31

Notes: Upon lamenting that I needed more hiphop, my partner reminded me of this album. Starting it, I wondered to myself "this has been out for 4 years. Why haven't I heard any songs from it out in the wild??" And the answer is; because they're bad. Like, really bad and not even in a fun way. Songs listed are listenable but I don't forsee myself revisiting them. I like experimental stuff but this one is not for me!

25. Strange Trails - Lord Huron (2015)

Rating: 7.5/10

Fav Songs: Meet Me In The Woods, The Night We Met, Fool for Love

Notes: After that last one, I wanted an album I knew would be decent at LEAST, so I went with Strange Trails as I'm already familiar with a handful of songs. It's great! I feel that Johnny Cash would really appreciate Lord Huron, and I like the way he tells stories. Redacted points for putting both 'Love Like Ghosts' and 'Meet Me In The Woods' on there, though. In theory, the idea of the same instrumentals with different lyrics is interesting, but in practice just feels like LLG is the rough, first draft of MMITW and shouldnt have been included? That's a very small beef.

Notes: Trying to avoid EPs for this project, but I really wanted to listen to this and I didn't want to discount it either. And it's great! 'Fare Well' is a bit of a weak ender, but oh well.

27. Saved - Now, Now (2018)

Rating: 8/10

Fav Songs: SGL, Powder, MJ

Notes: This album is one of the original that inspired this project, so I'm not sure why it took me so long to get to it. Now, Now has a truly unique sound that I struggle to classify, and I simply just love it. Catchy, yet complex and dreamy. Not every song landed but I'll be coming back to this one for sure.

28. Sahar - Tamino (2022)

Rating: 7/10

Fav songs: The First Disciple, The Longing, Fascination

Notes: Gave this album a listen at my partners bequest, and she totally loves it, so... Pressure! Overall, I think I like his album Amir a bit more. This ones still great, though, especially to throw on in the background while you're doing stuff. His music is so layered and rich, truly unique sounding. That said, I REALLY don't like "Sunflower". I've heard it a few times now and I like it less every time. Something about it feels... Off, for a Tamino song.

29. Spirituals - Santigold (2022)

Rating: 6/10

Fav Songs: No Paradise, Fall First, Ain't Ready

Notes: This one was a coworker recommendation (and my coworkers have officially heard about this project so I imagine I'll be good on recommendations for a while). Its just okay! I appreciate how unique and difficult to genre-fy Santigold is, but I prefer some of her older stuff. This album still has some great flow and a few total gems, though.

30. Beauty Pagent - The Bobby Lees (2018)

Rating: 9/10

Fav Songs: Radiator, Mad Moth, Bobby Lee

Notes: Another coworker rec and I LOVE this album. The old-punk feel is so visceral, you could close your eyes and be in an 80s basement show. I couldn't BELIEVE how new this is. Not a casual listen for sure (I mean- it's punk), but worth a quick dive if you feel like going hard.

31. Чёрный альбом - Kino (1990)

Rating: 🎸/10

Fav Songs: N/A

Notes: This was a bestie-rec but I've listened to enough Kino in the past to know it probably... Wasn't gonna be my vibe! And sure enough, it wasn't really. I enjoyed it well enough, though most of the songs just blended together for me, and I spent a good chunk of time reading about Kino afterwards. They were so influential to Russian rock that I dont feel its fair to give them a number rating, but I don't see myself returning to Kinos black album!

32. Older - Lizzy McAlpine (2024)

Rating: 8/10

Fav Songs: Drunk Running, Staying, Broken Glass

Notes: Lizzy's album before this, 'ten seconds flat', isn't just a 10/10 album for me- it CONSUMED my entire Spotify wrapped last year. I was cautious about this album and I'm glad for it, because it's VERY different. I still enjoyed it a lot, but to compare the two would be weird. This is a melancholy album with very few highs, a jazz-feel throughout, and features Lizzys voice on full display. A few songs bored me to tears musically, though- so just an 8/10. Not a bad follow up at all, Lizzy!

33. Apocalypse Whenever (deluxe version) - Bad Suns - 2022

Rating: 3/10

Fav Songs: Maybe You Saved Me, When the World was Mine

Notes: This was my first truly disappointing album listen :^( I love the Bad Suns, and 'Disapear Here' is an album I just absolutely BLEED for. This album lacks in comparison, and the culprit is obvious. I'm not sure if the singer is trying to do it more healthily or something, but his voice just totally lacks that indescribable *thing* he does. The special sauce, if you will. As a result every song sounds really low-energy? A few years ago a Bad Suns/PVRIS collab would have slayed me but I'm so underwhelmed now.

34. Fade to Bluegrass (a Bluegrass tribute to Metallica) - Iron Horse (2003)

Rating: 7/10

Fav Songs: Nothing Else Matters, Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam

Notes: Another coworker recommendation, but I pushed it to the top of my list because the concept intrigued me. I don't even like Metallica but I am familiar enough with them to admit these songs went hard. A few of these songs I even feel like lend themselves better to the Bluegrass genre?? A really interesting listen!

35. The Tortured Poets Department (ANTHOLOGY) - Taylor Swift (2024)

Rating: 4/10

Fav Songs: I Look in People's Windows, Down Bad, The Black Dog

Notes: Certifiably mid. Does not justify being 31 songs long. Most sound indistinguishable from one another and one is such an offensive dupe of 'Cardigan' I think it should have been cut completely. Every song is so densely packed with lyrics I wish she would just write a fucking novel or something. And this low energy 'talk-singing' thing she does now sounds awful and bores you to tears by the end. But because you can't throw 31 rocks without hitting SOMETHING, I found some enjoyable songs. Hilarious that the best song is also the shortest. World's most long winded pop star /neg.
