My post-apocalyptic Lesbian Cowgirl Mailman choose-your-own adventure has just updated! Read it here, for free on my Patreon! This is only the third installment of PART TWO, so it's still a great time to hop on board!! I just made a summary of the first part, here, which tells you basically everything you need to know about Lou, her unrequited(?) love, and the ill-advised journey she is beginning as of this update.
In the previous update, we found out (kind of) what the object of Lou's affection wrote to her in that heavily, heavily perfumed letter. In this update, she has to deal with what she learned. Her traveling companion/special delivery, Holliday, is being... quite nice? At least, comparatively? They have a bit of "And There Was Only One Bed" going on, in that they're sharing a tent made for one. That's fun, right? Sleepover!!
Excerpt under the cut!
“I’m sorry to have been the bearer of such bad news, Lou, truly I am,” she said. She stroked the back of Lou’s hung head. Lou was surprised to find she found the gesture comforting, not condescending or overly familiar.
“It’s not all bad,” Lou said, her head still resting face-down on her knees. Her voice sounded pinched and nasal to her own ears and her throat felt almost too tight to speak. The knees of her jeans were thoroughly soaked through with tears. “She said she loves me.”
“Oh,” Holliday said, her brows knitting together. She held her other hand to her chest. “Oh, you poor thing.”
“She said. Right? That she loves me back?” Lou said. “She did say.”
“Oh, honey,” Holliday said. She cupped Lou’s chin and tilted her face up, searching her face for something, but Lou didn’t know what. Her hand was not as soft as Lou had expected it to be since everything else about her was so refined. “Bless your heart.”
Something about having to meet her eye made the tears start back up with renewed vigor. It hurt. It hurt bad. She wanted to say that it wasn’t fair, but that wasn’t how these things worked and frankly, Venus was right. That only made it hurt more. She couldn’t even gnash her teeth and wail against the injustice of it all. Venus was right, she was never around. She was always away. She was unpredictable and unreliable. She’d been so happy to be a rolling stone, gathering no moss for so long and now it was biting her in the ass. Turned out, girls liked when you were a little mossy.

“Andy Warhol’s Lonesome Cowboys may be a bit too much for many people, but that’s their problem. Lonesome Cowboys is a magnificent and very funny satire of the American Western that is liberally seasoned with our favourite 4, 8, 10 and 12-letter words and a cornucopia of carryings-on that is – in combination – perhaps unprecedented.”
/ Critic John L Wasserman of The San Francisco Chronicle /
Released on this day (5 May 1969) at New York’s Garrick Cinema: Andy Warhol’s joyous, freewheeling homoerotic X-rated Western parody Lonesome Cowboys (tagline: “Definitely not for the young-uns!”). I vividly recall seeing this one at an impressionable age at London’s legendary much-missed grindhouse sleaze pit Scala Cinema in the early nineties. (I say “sleaze pit” with love). I caught many Warhol films there (including Couch (1964), My Hustler (1965) and Chelsea Girls (1966)) and the pattern was consistent: the theatre would start full, there would be a steady drip of walkouts who couldn’t cope with Warhol’s “challenging” pacing and filmmaking choices, and by the bitter end there was just a handful of hardcore attendees left. I for one found Warhol’s underground pop art cinema entrancing (and sexy as hell). I haven’t seen Lonesome Cowboy in decades, but I remember it featuring Warhol’s most beauteous leading men (Joe Dallesandro, Louis Waldon, Eric Emerson and Tom Hompertz), a glorious moment of Dallesandro (in tight white jeans) go-go dancing with Taylor Mead, and a long, meandering monologue from Viva.

I had to do a double take when I saw your post about Desperate Hollow, cause I've been rotating a couple of gay cowboy OC's in my head the past couple of weeks, and suddenly I see one of my favorite creators is writing about gay cowboys?? I was really intrigued just by the concept alone, but the summary got me incredibly excited and made me wish I could read it right this second! Wishing you all the luck with the pitching, publishing, and the probably many other steps I'm not knowledgeable enough to list :D
I was curious if there's any media which particularly inspired you in the writing of Desperate Hollow? I've been looking for something to scratch that Western-style itch recently, but haven't found something which has fully hooked me yet.
ahhhhhhh omg I LOVE this! if you ever make posts about your own gay cowboy OCs, let me know 👀 I cannot get enough queer western in my life!!!
so part of what inspired my desperate hollow-posting is that I wrote up this month's mixtape newsletter and, uh, wrote 3,000 words about these two (if you want to get this newsletter, sign up here!). and in that, I talk about the original inspiration which, in short, is that in 2018 I played red dead redemption 2 and then started dreaming about enemies to lovers outlaws lol. I talk about this a bit more in the newsletter (it'll go out on monday), but I started developing it as a podcast in 2019 and then the last few years have been working on a novel, which I think is what it's truly meant to be!
your wishes of luck mean the world!! I'm really hoping I'll get it out to pitching this year and that someone will want to buy it, because I want you to be able to read it right now too! until that time, I'm definitely going to be posting about it here because I need to get some of these thoughts out
red dead isn't actually explicitly queer (there is a side character who is gay and clearly struggling with that, and a genderqueer sidequest character) so for great queer westerns that you can already read: The Pits by @katy-l-wood (plus it has GORGEOUS art), Outlawed by Anna North, and Lucky Red by Claudia Cravens are all absolutely amazing!

I haven't posted anything here in a while, so this is gonna be like a reintroduction post to my blog.
Hi! I'm Neo/Richie (he/they/it). I'm queer, trans, autistic and adhd. I also use xenogenders. I mostly post about things related to my special interests. But that's about me for now.
This is a personal blog, so there's no specific theme, but the things I will post/reblog the most are American regional gothic (western gothic, southern gothic, midwestern gothic, ect), vampires, queer western, the California regions deserts, photography, Danger Days (by My Chemical Romance), Ghost (band), xenogender flags, gothic subcultures, aesthetic and music. And whatever else I'm interested in at the moment.
In the past is used this blog mostly to reblog content related to Danger Days by My Chemical Romance, the California deserts, and photography.
I'm posting this to find blogs/people interested in the same things as me, and to reintroduce myself. I want this blog to be a place to talk about and find content about my special interests :)
If you stuck around this long and we have similar interests, I'd be happy to follow your blog.

I know some dickheads have now decided that Judaism is the "bad, violent, terrorist religion" and Islam is the "good, peaceful" one, which is only to be expected of white people, but how much of an issue is it currently? Like I've seen some USAmericans sharing how the Islamic faith shapes Gazans values and perseverance (good) except with that distinct white hippie "I'm about to imprint on this like the world's most racist duck" vibe (bad), but I didn't think they're already turning on Judaism in numbers.
Do they realize that Christianity is also the same kind of comfort to Christian minorities in Asia and Africa? That it was Buddhists that genocided the Rohingyas in Myanmar and Tamils in Sri Lanka? That Hindu fundamentalists are even now trying to ethnically cleanse Muslims in India? How Hindus and Christians are terrorized and persecuted in Pakistan? That Muslims have a history of persecuting and ethnically cleansing Jews too?
Really tired of asking y'all to be normal about people's religions man. There's no religion that's inherently violent or exceptionally peaceful. It's just like any other ideology that becomes a weapon in the hands of ethnic power. Interrogate power, not religion, and respect people's belief systems insofar as they aren't in your business.
Edit: I've amended the "long history" of Muslim persecution of Jews because it might be misleading in the current political climate. Zionism and antisemitic Arab nationalism are twin births resulting directly from Christian colonization, and Islamic empires tended to actually be more tolerant of other religions compared to Christianity, especially Judaism, which was considered a sibling religion. Antisemitism wasn't ideologically entrenched in Islamic tradition. It's simply that ethno-religious power will lead to ethno religious domination and intermittent cleansing of minorities, and Islam is no exception. Humans be humaning always.

Human connections were never easy when I was alive. And now that I'm dead, they seem to bring somehow even more baggage. There are these feelings that I'm not used to. I thought those feelings were never to be spoken of. But once you have them… it's hard to hold them back. And that terrifies me.
