Saints and Zealots Bleed the Same: Kinda Sorta Official Launch
Ellie’s world is full of darkness, and all that stands between unaware mortals and the monsters that feed on them is the Congregation of the Body and the Blood of Christ. Since her 18th birthday, Ellie has been fighting these monsters, killing the immortal creatures known as “deathless” to protect humanity and free the trapped souls of the corrupted. Unfortunately, as the end times draw near and secular society falls further from God, the forces of the Congregation are stretched thinner, making their job more dangerous.
Sent on a solo mission to take down a cult of immortal heretics, Ellie accepts help from a risky source: a coalition of local deathless, looking to rid their community of the cult and their leader once and for all. With few options and dangerous odds, Ellie is left with no choice but to team up with Avery Jones, a self-proclaimed killer of Congregation soldiers with an all-consuming hatred for the cult’s leader.
But as she works more closely with Avery, Ellie starts to wonder if everything she has been told about the deathless is true. In spite of her disdain for the Congregation, Avery is far more human than Ellie was led to believe. As the true motives of both the Children of Dawn and the Congregation of the Body and the Blood come into focus, Ellie is forced to reckon with the tactics her own church and an insidious cult share, and realise she may have more in common with a soulless killer than she would like to admit.
Where is the line between faith and fanaticism? What is it that really makes monsters? How can we tell if the people we follow have our best interests at heart, or if we're just pawns in their own self-serving plans? Asking these questions puts Ellie in a dangerous position, but it might be her only way forward.

So check it out if you're looking for a new take on vampire stories, featuring actual adult protagonists, most of them queer, and a lot of (hopefully) new interpretations of classic themes in the genre.
I made a cover so it feels more real, and motivates me to work on it regularly. And because it looks cool.
Content warnings under the cut, for those interested but not sure what to watch for.
Content Warnings
Blood. It’s a vampire story, there is SO much blood.
Religious abuse. It’s also a story about cults.
Physical abuse. Mostly approached from survivors’ perspectives.
Emotional/psychological abuse. Ditto.
Gaslighting.
Violence. They’re hunting vampires, guys.
Needles.
Misogyny, mostly of the fundamentalist religious variety.
Homophobia, also of the fundamentalist religious variety.
Drug use, but not really until book two. Heads up.
Kidnapping. Any more detail would be a spoiler, but just know it’s there
Abusive relationships involving minors, but not until book two.
Death. Discussion of it more than "on-screen" character deaths, but again, this is a vampire story. It's there.
Lots of kinda triggering christianese, so if you came out of one of this type of cults, be aware it’s there, and pretty prevalent in the first book.
Things you can trust WON'T be there:
Sexual assault
Animal abuse
Overt racism (although there is some mention of growing up as a racial minority in a very white community)
Glorification of any kind of abuse. This story is about recovering from trauma, not causing it.
Transphobia. This isn't a story with a lot of trans content, but we're still here for it.

So close to reaching my goal on Kindle Vella for the first time!
Only 9 reads away from my October goal of 100 reads between my two serials. Anyone wanna check out at least the first 3 episodes of one of them (for FREE) and help me reach my goal for the first time since I started in July? :)
Here is a snippet from the journal entry in Episode One- "Dear Diary" and I won't lie, I cried as I wrote it. This story (I'm writing) feels personal, and timely, on so many levels. -April Washington (writing as Octavia Ambrose and referencing the Kindle Vella Serial, Whispers: The United States of Christ)
"When I found this notebook yesterday, I thought about that diary for the first time in years. I can’t help but wonder what may have happened to it after my parents were killed. It was in a tote of my childhood possessions in their attic, and the militia group that killed them is known for scavenging after their raids now. They leave behind a couple of their lowest-ranked members and some of the stronger men from the camps.
The armed militia guards treat the men like slaves, forcing them to sort and salvage whatever they can while they themselves smoke or play cards and watch.
Did they find my diary? If they did, did they toss it immediately, or did the guards read it out loud as entertainment? All I can imagine is them laughing as they slap each other on the back, mocking the young “sinner” who wrote it.
That thought brings tears to my eyes. Maybe I’m silly. It’s just a diary. With one little secret. But it was mine! My secret to keep. My right to keep it or share it. Without fear.
When I wrote that diary my secret wasn’t illegal.
I guess it’s not the diary, but the reminder.
Once upon a time, I was free. To live and love without fear."

Edit 4: Gazans have specifically asked us to put every effort into pushing for a ceasefire instead of donations. "Raising humanitarian aid" is a grift Western governments are pushing right now to deflect from the fact that they're sending billions to Israel to keep carpet bombing Gazans. As long as the blockades are still in place there will never be enough aid for two million people. (UPDATE: PLEASE DONATE to the Gazan's GoFundMe fundraisers to help them buy food and get out of Rafah into Egypt. E-SIMs, food and medical supplies are also essential. Please donate to the orgs linked in the How You Can Help. Go on the strikes. DO NOT STOP PROTESTING.)

The twitter accounts I reposted as it was given to me and I just now realized it had too many Israeli voices and almost none of the Palestinians I'm following, so it's being edited. Check back for more. I also removed sources like Jewish Voices of Peace and Breaking the Silence that do good work but have come under fair criticism from Palestinians.

Remember the 6 year old girl who was surrounded by Israeli tanks and the red crescent couldn't reach her? Her name is Hind Hamadeh. Here you can hear the phone call her 15 year old sister, Layan Hamadeh, made with the medics. She was killed exactly a moment later including all people in the car, except for 6 year old Hind who was stuck in the car with the dead bodies of her family, Israeli tanks and IDF surrounding her, shooting, preventing anybody to reach her.
That was last night (29.1.24). Today, still nothing. The fate of Hind remains unknown.
palestine red crescent ambulance team went to rescue her yesterday evening, but they have not returned as of now. We lost contact with them about 18 hours ago, and we still remain unaware of their fate and whether they succeeded in evacuating her or not.
Please, share Hind's story as much as you can on any platform. We need to know what happened to her. Put yourself in her place, how terrified she must be. Don't scroll past this.

Since western media (especial American) are working overtime to suppress South Africa's hearing and Yemeni voices I want you to keep these 3 points in mind:
Not 1 major American news outlet broadcasted the South Africa case hearing on Thursday, but they broadcasted Israel's case hearing, today, Friday 12/1/2024.
Yemen has repeatedly said that the Red Sea blockage is because it's following its duty to upload "Article 1 on the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the crime of Genocide" and IS NOT to "endanger the freedom of navigation in one of the world's most vital waterways" like Biden put it, in his statement.
Gaza Strip is still under severe bombardment. Don't allow yourself to get used to it. They just bombed an entire neighborhood in Khan Yunis which is a southern city! And as of recently the electricity has gone off in a hospital because gas has ran out.

in a time of knowledge suppression is it your duty to arm yourself with knowledge.
read about americas occupations in the middle east.
read about 9/11 from outside of america and see how they inflicted senseless harm and violence to countless amounts of people and have been suppressing your rights for the past 2 fucking decades.
read about any of the countless wars from the past 30 years. especially from a civilian's. and the victims and survivors' perspective. listen to the horror stories and do not plug your fucking ears as to what your country is doing.
and read about fucking gaza and palestine and keep up with what is happening no matter how "sad" or "uncountable" you might get.
