Guilt (chapter 1 - bjhm fanfiction)
Actually, I'll share two fanfics today since they're for totally different fandoms.
This one is very, VERY self indulgent. I wrote it mostly for myself, but I think there is no problem showing it to other people.
It's all about my AU that Mr Peanutbutter dates both Diane and Guy. I started shipping this not seriously, but now I love them for real. It'll be three chapters long in total, I already finished everything.
Once again, sorry for any mistakes: not only because English is not my first language, but also... I probably got something wrong about Texas or the movies mentioned. And here's something I drew for it:
Tumblr media
You can read it on this google doc or under the cut: (5662 words)
Chapter 1 - Guilt
.
.
.
Upon meeting Mr Peanutbutter after years, Diane tries to get used to a familiar feeling.
---
Honestly, Diane was used to the guilt.
She used to joke that it was something that had haunted her since she was five, but no one thought that joke was funny. Well, they just didn't understand it, she thought.
Sometimes she would be sitting at the kitchen table and the feeling would run over her like a truck. The old bitter guilt. She didn't know what she had done wrong though, that didn't stop the feeling from continuing to plague her throughout her life.
When she was at Boston University, she'd overhear conversations from her deer classmates, who had their own number of inside jokes. They laughed and talked about their "freeze" instinct: something about prey and evolution. Diane might not be a deer, but she related to it in a strange way, and it was not surprising to learn that humans were once hunted too.
Part of that remained deep in her brain and now expressed itself in the form of guilt. Walking the streets, it was as if she needed to run away, while at the same time she couldn't move a muscle. She felt in danger. Everyone hated her. She had done something wrong.
 But what?
Having something to feel truly guilty about didn't help, however. All those years had never taught her to get used to the feeling, so it only got twice as bad. Until later. Aside from the unfounded fear, it was like she was being haunted every second of her life.
She and Guy passed a palm tree on the way to the pharmacy. He had his arm around her neck when he asked "Feeling like LA again?" and that was enough to unlock all the memories she was trying to repress. She laughed as she answered, but the guilt had already set in.
Pickles had recently been hired as a television show host (along with her new boyfriend. Was he her boyfriend? Diane didn't know that singer, even though he seemed famous). Pickles looked happy, with her tongue hanging out and tail wagging like before.... before she met Diane. Guy surreptitiously switched channels when Diane became static, perhaps already understanding her unspoken feelings.
It was something she should just get used to….Probably.
 It was expected of her.
What she didn't expect was to have a new constant reason for guilt.
"If it isn't my favorite girl on this planet!!"
She heard him before she even saw him. She barely had time to react before being wrapped in a tight hug, even needing to take a few steps back to keep her balance. Such contact continued for a few seconds, Diane not knowing what to do with her arms and uncomfortably wrapping them around his waist.
When they separated, Diane had the opportunity to actually observe him. Mr Peanutbutter was staring at her, his brown eyes half closed by the smile that wouldn't leave his face. He looked exactly like he always did. Except not. She was well aware of the resistance that the other had for aging... Or rather, showing it. However, now it was as if he was finally accepting, his fur - naturally extreme yellow - becoming lighter. The region near his muzzle had been the most affected, several white hairs framing the nose. The tips of his ears also had the messiest short hairs, almost lightening too.
Only then did Diane realize that Mr. Peanutbutter was speaking to her:
"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre made it look so different! Here it's kinda... Cold? And look at the buildings! It wasn't quite what I was expecting."
"If your Texas home base is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre... You're sure to be blown away! Come on, California is right next door, it's impossible that you haven't been to Houston at least once" Diane tried hard to pretend that she understood what he was saying and that she hadn't been distracted during the whole beginning, but she didn't manage to avoid interrupting herself to say: “... You seem so different, Mr Peanutbutter.”
As always, it was difficult to translate her thoughts into words, however, that didn't stop the other from giving her a small smile:
"I've been to Houston several times, just never this early and... Here" He seemed slightly shyer while answering, lifting his shoulders and tilting his head.
"Never been here outside of a plane or car, is what you mean."
 "You seem different too, Diane."
The uncomfortable silence that fell between the two of them almost worried her. Maybe that's where it started: the guilt. The way he looked at her, his eyes practically glowing, disguising something she didn't understand.
Fortunately, this moment was broken by Mr Peanutbutter's inability to remain silent for more than 20 seconds:
"Let's get going!?" Without even waiting for an answer, he tightened his hand around the suitcase that was beside him, dragging it when he started walking. "I can't wait to see everything here! Where is Starbucks? Ah, my hotel too! What's in all those skyscrapers? I still can't get over that part!"
"Wow.... You and Guy are going to get along so well. He loves going out and just looking at the buildings. It's his ideal date idea” Diane smiled as she remembered how many times he'd taken her down those exact same streets, only to see the same buildings that looked exactly the same.
"Oh, Guy!" Mr Peanutbutter dramatically dropped his body weight, letting his head fall back. "You have no idea how much I look forward to meeting the man who stole my best friend's heart!"
His sincerity brought a smile to Diane's lips. She looked away and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear as she concluded:
 "I'm excited too."
When she got the message from her ex-husband a week ago, she genuinely thought the whole situation was going to be a little awkward. According to himself, he had just joined a new project - "but the contract doesn't let me tell anyone yet", he said before giving several details about the film - which would have its beginning shot exactly in Houston. It seemed like he was just commenting on the coincidence with her, but the truth was, the two of them rarely texted each other those days. Diane quickly read between the lines, innocently saying they could meet so she could introduce him to the city and... Well, she still thought it would be uncomfortable.
However, now she and Mr. Peanutbutter were crossing the street, the sun passing through the buildings and leaving everything with that slightly cold and comfortable color of the beginning of a day. They talked and laughed, updating each other on the last few years - Mr Peanutbutter would talk about how amazing it was to share the mansion with BoJack; Diane would talk about her new home; Guy and Sonny; her book series; and how well she was doing. The two apparently haven't lost the connection they once had. She almost forgot how easy it was to talk to him, and at that moment, it was as if they hadn't seen each other for just a few days. Maybe they didn't seem as different as they thought.
When the guilt found its usual place inside her chest, Diane knew the feeling was there to stay.
•∆•
She was wrong again and it didn't make anything any better.
They found Guy nearly an hour and a half later, which was when he was free for the rest of Saturday. Part of her thought it would also be a bad idea to introduce her ex-husband to her current one… For obvious reasons. She was afraid of making Guy insecure or Mr. Peanutbutter sad. It had taken her many, many months to just open up to her husband about how her old relationship had been like. Something about it all just didn't fit in her head, like there was something wrong.
But there she was, Diane fooled again, unable to read a situation well!
And there were Guy and Mr. Peanutbutter, walking as if they already knew each other, talking and pointing at the damn skyscrapers. Guy put his arm around Diane's waist, keeping her close. Mr Peanutbutter was wagging his tail and gesticulating with his free from the suitcase hand, completely at ease.
None of that made the situation any better, like she said. Of course. The guilt doubled and commanded her to flee…or to freeze. Whichever came first.
All those years of therapy never made the bad feelings and insecurities stop. But they helped her to control herself and to smile as if she had nothing wrong with her.
She suspected she'd learned that herself, though.
"Hm, I think it's here! It looks like the photo" Mr Peanutbutter muttered as they arrived at a specific building. Diane craned her neck so she could see the cell phone the dog was holding, comparing the photo with the view in front of her. Both looked like a slightly old-fashioned mansion, with details carved into their mostly white structure.
"It's on the same street as the website, that's it" She confirmed, still moving her gaze from the hotel to the photo and vice versa.
"I didn't know this was a hotel" Guy commented by raising an eyebrow. "I thought it was one of those haunted mansions they have all over town and nobody talks about, for some reason.
"I know, right!? "Mr Peanubutter's ears pricked up. "Inside? One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen, check it out! But on the outside, I feel like I'm about to enter a sequel to The Shining!
"Why are you making so many references to horror movies today?" Diane couldn't help but ask.
"Ah, I thought it would be good to open horizons for genres that I didn't used to watch that much and I'm actually enjoying it?"
Damn it! She regretted the question, her mind framing the next few seconds an instant before they happened.
"That's great, Mr Peanutbutter!" Guy could barely contain his excitement. "I'm a horror movie lover myself, I used to collect DVDs when I was younger!"
"Have you watched Nosferatu of 1922? Do you believe that no streaming has this movie? I looked everywhere and! I! Can't! Find! It!"
"Are you kidding? My father gave me a copy for one of my birthdays. I have it at home!"
 "Really?"
"Do you want to stop by tonight so we can watch it? Yeah, I think that's a good idea!"
"Can I really have the honor of visiting your home now? Wow, I would love to."
"What? Of course! Having a Hollywoob star in my house has always been a personal dream of mine, y'know?"
Automatically, they both started to stare at Diane, as if waiting for a confirmation. Her already tight heart sped up, leaving her confused about what to feel. Part of her was dying to know what would happen. The other, more sensible one, knew it was a recipe for disaster and guilt. She was never one for superstition, however, this one came almost as an omen. Would it be worse if everything went right or wrong? Which one would make her feel less like crap?
 They expected an answer.
Diane almost froze in the middle of her trillion thoughts.
She wanted to run away. But of course Diane would run. It was what the old Diane always did.
 That's why she replied:
 "After 08:00 pm I'm free!"
Mr Peanutbutter's tail didn't stop wagging after that. Not even when they said goodbye and he walked into his haunted hotel. Diane let out her breath, but the tension remained. She still didn't know why.
Guy smiled and gave her a lingering kiss on the cheek, putting his arm around her neck to guide her back to the walk:
"I have to admit, babe, you have good taste in men!"
"You're flirting with my ex-husband... Is that what's going on?" Diane opened a sarcastic smile, making it clear that she was not serious.
"What? None of that! I'm flirting with myself!"
It made Diane laugh and feel lighter. She surreptitiously hugged Guy closer, as he always managed to make her feel better.
 The problem was herself.
•∆•
"Hm, how was your mansion there in California?" Guy asked as if he didn't want anything. He always used this same tactic when he wanted to know more about her old life, since Diane hardly liked to talk about that time. Something about bad memories and guilt, y'know?
She looked up from her laptop to him, who was sitting on the couch parallel to hers. Guy only watched TV before that, beer bottle in hand. Now he was looking at her with that small smile and twinkling eyes, probably trying to win her over for an answer.
Diane sighed, as he had succeeded:
"I didn't just live in mansions there. First I lived in a small and dirty apartment... Then in the mansion! So I went to another small, dirty apartment."
"Yeah, I more or less remember that part."
"Hmmm it was weird. But I liked it."
"The small and dirty apartments or the mansion?"
 "The mansion."
Yeah, it was true. On a certain level it was. One of the problems Diane had to deal with all her life was getting used to change. Even the little ones bothered her. So it was possible to imagine how, suddenly, living in a house seven times the size of the previous one - with a celebrity - had affected her. Diane could barely feel at ease. It was like she was an invader, far away from her natural habitat. She found the mansion too big and too empty, realizing how there weren't enough people for that space. It was just Mr. Peanutbutter, Diane, and various things that didn't belong to her. She usually got lost all the way to the kitchen and didn't know how to get back to her room.
Part of her was afraid she would never get used to it at all.
However, Mr Peanutbutter was the part that made her resist a little longer. The dog handled everything in a calm and even humorous way, waiting for her to get used to it in her own time. He came looking in the middle of the night when she took too long, lost... but that's how she found the roof. Unlike everything else in the house, this one became her place. She could breathe or smoke, taking time to herself. Mr Peanutbutter joked that she must have had several cats as her ancestors, as she just loved to be up high and watch the stars.
It was one of the only things Mr Peanutbutter automatically understood about her, always leaving her alone when she went up there.
Looking at the situation with the brain she had now, she could understand her ex-husband a little more. Maybe his fear of her just giving up on him had been there since that beginning. It gave new meaning to jokes and patience from him, internally nervous that she might never fit in. In this she could empathize, even though she already knew how it all ended.
Despite all the initial problems, Diane was amused to think how seeing the place as home slowly dawned on her. She would come home from work exhausted, automatically kicking off her boots in the entryway and heading straight for the sofa, where Mr. Peanutbutter was waiting for her and they would both watch a movie until they fell asleep, Diane laying her head on his lap to receive caress. Her things were spread around the house, her laptop and books were the common things to find on top of the tables. They turned a room into her office. Even though most of it still obviously belonged to Mr Peanutbutter - like all the decor, furniture and dog toys - he also printed several pictures he took of her, plastered on the walls right next to his.
That house became as much of Diane's as she allowed at the moment, and she was grateful for that. She was sure there were plenty of uncomfortable and bad moments in there, but the trick of nostalgia was to make the good ones the first to pop into her mind.
Oh, if only she could explain all these feelings to Guy...
"It was similar to when I first started living with you, I guess" then Diane shrugged, trying the best way she could find. "It was kind of uncomfortable... But I wanted to get used to it, so I did!"
"Yeah, I remember," Guy chuckled, already getting ready to get up from the couch. "Don't get me wrong, honey, but it really took a little while for you to get used to it."
 "I'm like that with everything."
She had her suspicions that this was a bit of a touchy subject for Guy. When they started living together, he constantly corrected her every time she called their home "his house". They had that same conversation several times, Diane not liking how much it reminded her of her life with Mr. Peanutbutter and becoming even more reluctant.
The environment she lived in Chicago, despite the extreme cold, was comfortable in an easy way that her mind was not prepared for. Guy's house was a lot bigger than her dirty apartments, but definitely smaller than the mansion in Los Angeles. Diane was a particular fan of the kitchen: something between the dark window, the plants and the decor made her feel at ease there. She used to bring her laptop so she could write on that table, finding it amusing how the closest thing she ever had to a home was actually a kitchen.
 Until Houston happened.
She had to let go of her comfort zone, because she really wanted things to work out this time... I mean, she already believed that it had already worked out with Guy. He never failed to make her feel comfortable and safe, even in the small things. So she allowed him to make this new house her home too. Diane's office was one of the first rooms they planned. She even picked out some furniture and made suggestions for the decor. Anyone who entered there could see the mixture of both.
Even now she couldn't help but glance at the various framed portraits they kept in the room, with all of Guy's family included… Diane being present in most of them. She was surprised by how happy she looked in the photos. And she was even more surprised at how genuine it was.
She wondered if the old Diane would be proud of how much she had changed.
"What does Mr Peanutbutter like to eat? Do you remember?" That's what Guy asked as he stood up, stretching with will and finishing drinking the rest of the beer. "To tell you the truth, I'm never sure what people eat watching a movie."
"Popcorn is too obvious as an answer" Diane replied, taking the question more seriously than she realized. "I think another kind of snack would be better... Do we still have Doritos?
"I'm going to the kitchen to check" He took a few steps forward, but stopped to continue. "Soda or beer? I vote for beer!
"Of course you do... Two votes then."
"Excellent! Do you think he'll like Kit Cat?"
 "Guy...."
"Oh, right. Chocolate. Dog. I forgot."
As Guy walked through the doorway into the hall, Diane closed her laptop with her fingertips and took a deep breath.
 She would be all right!
 Why wouldn't she?
 Yes, she would!
 No worries.
 Stop thinking about it, Diane.
 Diane, stop!
After checking that it was half an hour before 8:00 pm, she realized that she wasn't sure what to do. She took a quick look at the outfit she was wearing: her signature pink sweatpants and a pale yellow tank top. She even thought about wearing something more formal, but she couldn't feel the need when it came to Mr. Peanutbutter. He was more than used to seeing her for years at any time of the day and in all kinds of clothes... often without any at all.
 Diane, what's your problem!?
She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and walked into the kitchen then. Unfortunately, Guy was already doing pretty well on his own, expending all his skills to get Doritos and Ruffles into the bowls in an orderly fashion. She knew he knew all about his old, expensive beers and she couldn't wait to hear him explain about it when Mr. Peanutbutter arrived.
She walked around the house. She did nothing. She glanced at the watch several times and consequently made time pass even more slowly.
In the end, she and Guy ended up in the same place they started, only difference being them sharing the same couch.
To avoid an extreme urge to grab a Doritos too soon - and just wanting to stop thinking -, she settled her head on Guy's shoulder and let his fingers in her hair lighten her body. It had worked so well that she jumped when she heard the doorbell ring.
It was exactly 08:00 pm and come on, Mr Peanutbutter was still so punctual? She figured she still had a few minutes to prepare, or that she'd accidentally sent him the wrong address... Or that he just wasn't going to come.
Would she even rather he hadn't come? Her anxiety said yes. She, in fact, did not. One thing she also learned was that she could hardly lie to herself for very long. If something made her heart beat as hard as it did now, it could only mean that she cared.
She only moved when inevitably she had to pull her head away from Guy's shoulder, who decided to go answer the door, since his wife had stopped working. Diane got up right after him, even so, just standing in front of the couch like a game NPC.
 You're not like that, Diane!
 What is wrong?
Are you 12 years old by any chance?
Getting nervous about seeing your ex-husband?
 About seeing Mr Peanutbutter?
She thought time would make things easier, however, it had been the opposite.
She snapped back to reality as soon as Guy opened the door, her brain still not used to seeing him and Mr. Peanutbutter interacting so naturally. Stepping back, Guy allowed the dog to enter at last.
Mr Peanutbutter was dressed as he had been earlier - his usual: V-neck shirt and sweatpants. The only change was that now he was also wearing a colorful blue coat, which indicated that it must've been colder outside than inside, judging that it had already gotten dark.
"Hi, Diane, hi!" He waved with one hand, and only then did she notice that his other arm was occupied by a package he was holding. It was a... plant? Mr Peanutbutter followed her gaze. "To say thank you, I brought this! It's not much, but Diane told me that you like plants and that you had some at home.” He had turned to Guy when he said that last part.
"Serious? Oh! Thank you!" Guy finished locking the door and opened a smile. "They're in the kitchen... This one will fit well, it's so beautiful!"
"It's a... It's a, what's it called? No, wait, I decorated it. Aglaonema! I have no idea what it means, but I also thought it was beautiful. It is kinda pink!"
Diane barely paid attention to what was being said, her mind still stuck on the dog's first line.
"Did you remember me saying that?" She tilted her head. "Who are you and what did you do with Mr. Peanutbutter!?"
Obviously she'd said it as a joke but, as soon as the words left her mouth…she realized she just sounded cruel. Mr Peanutbutter gripped the potted plant a little tighter, laughing awkwardly. Even Guy stared at her with an enigmatic expression - but that couldn't mean any good.
"It's beautiful, Mr Peanutbutter, thank you very much!" Diane concluded this way, trying to undo her mistake.
Fortunately, the dog's attention quickly shifted elsewhere:
"Beautiful is this house of yours! Did I just walk into the Devil Wears Prada? Because this decoration is worthy of an award!"
Diane had never watched this film before and imagined he hadn't either... But she appreciated his effort to improvise.
"The place is not very big, but it makes up for it in beauty" Guy shrugged, already starting to walk closer to the sofa, where Diane was still. "I always wanted to own a house with brick walls, and our room has a balcony!"
"Ohhhhh" Mr Peanutbutter was wagging his tail from side to side, his gaze moving to every inch of the living room.
Diane pretended not to notice how much he paid attention to the paintings—it was her favorite part there, too.
The rest of the night passed in a blur as her brain could barely focus on anything. It was one of those days she just... wasn't there. She was nowhere to be found. The three went to the sofa, talked a little. Mr Peanutbutter still had a lot of questions and ended up learning the bare minimum of their relationship. Diane even responded, telling and reminiscing - with a warm heart - of her early days with Guy. Everything seemed so peaceful. So right. She just wanted her mind to be there as much as she was.
The fact that they were watching a black and white movie about a bat didn't help either, she had to admit. It was nearly impossible to get her attention, her view flickering between Mr. Peanutbutter and Guy, watching them eat and comment on the movie.
Yeah, part of her was right. Interacting with the two of them was really strange.
Or was it weird just how it wasn't weird?
Did she want it to be weird?
Did she want everything to go wrong and have a real reason for guilt?
That way, without nothing, she knew the problem was only her.
Diane sighed. She got a Doritos. She rested her head on the couch.
Maybe she was just nervous about how nostalgic the situation was.  Unconsciously, he remembered all the movie nights he had spent there in California. She ended up falling asleep every time, it was an inside joke between the two: how much she never managed to finish a single movie. She only regained consciousness when she felt Mr Peanutbutter lifting her off the couch, calmly carrying her to the bed and holding her until he fell asleep too.
At the same time, the first few days in their new home in Houston came to mind. Guy was proud of how big the new TV was, and Diane couldn't resist staying up late watching anything with him. She never cared what they watched, just lying in his lap and enjoying the feeling of him stroking her hair. The room had a huge window, every now and then Diane would turn her head and peek through, oddly reflecting how pleased she was with her new life.
The mix between these two good memories, however, only made her feel bad.
What did her mind mean by that? What are you thinking, Diane?
She got another Doritos. Mr Peanutbutter laughed out loud at something Guy had mentioned. That sight made Diane smile.
•∆•
The house without Mr. Peanutbutter felt silent and empty now, even though he'd only been there for one night.
Diane put the water bottle in the fridge, her thousand thoughts exhausting her and leaving her thinking, in the end, of nothing.
She just wanted to go to sleep.
Fortunately, she could hear Guy going to bed in the next room. All she wanted the most was to stay beside him, bury her face in his fur and realize that everything was still okay. Everything would be fine. It was something Guy was good at doing, as if his presence brought comfort in any possible situation. She knew that was one of the reasons she was so much better today, even if she didn't want to take credit for herself either.
She slowly opened the door to her room, closing it behind her. Diane didn't think much. Thinking would only make her regret it before she even did anything. So instead, she approached the bed with light steps, sneaking under the covers until she was close enough to Guy. This one barely had time to turn to her, Diane burying her face in the back of his neck right away. So he just relaxed, allowing her to envelop him in a warm, tight hug.
"Have I told you that I love you very, very much and that I appreciate every second I spend with you?" Diane murmured quickly, having some difficulty with how much her voice was muffled by all that fur he had.
"Well, you used to demonstrate that quite often, yes" Guy nodded, his voice already coming out lazy from sleep. "I really love you, too but... Any other reason for this all of a sudden?"
"What is this relationship that I can no longer spontaneously declare myself to my own husband?"
 "I never said you couldn't!"
Diane sighed, realizing that she couldn't hide behind jokes anymore—which, apparently, only she understood as jokes:
"You had every reason in the world not to agree with any of this. Thank you for taking such good care of him and being so nice... Mr Peanutbutter is not a bad person."
"Is it this!? I know he's not! I was nice because I genuinely liked him."
Diane sank deeper into the nape of his neck, planting a small kiss there:
"You handled it a lot better than I could."
"It wasn't difficult," Guy laughed, half sarcastic, half serious. "Do I look like someone insecure to you?"
 "Ehrrrrr..."
"You can't use anything I said when drunk as an argument!"
  "Hmmmmm...."
"Or anything I said after 11:00 pm!"
"Okay, I'll let you win this time."
  "I trust you."
Abruptly, Guy shifted, the sudden movement causing Diane to let out a quick, thin scream. It turned into a laugh when it was his turn to pull her into a hug, placing several kisses scattered across her face.
"You're drooling on me!” Diane pretended to complain, her humorous tone betraying her speech.
"Stop being so attractive and irresistible then!"
This took them to kiss each other for a few minutes, until sleep reached both of them and Guy ended up lying with his back on the bed - from living together, she knew that was the most comfortable position for him, since his horns always complicated everything.
Diane felt his breath. She had her head resting on his chest, which went down and up. She was quite relaxing. Diane almost felt relaxed. It was one of those moments when she loved another person so much that her body felt numb.
Guy was one of the best things that had ever happened to her.
That she could never deny, the guilt being there or not.
 Damn it!
 She had almost forgotten!
 Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!
No... She wouldn't blame herself. It was a loop that the old Diane was more than used to. None of it would work or make her better, no matter how angry she felt at her own feelings.
So she focused on Guy once more. It could be cheesy, but he was her safe haven most of the time. Even almost asleep, he ran his fingers through her hair, comforting her.
 Diane smiled at it.
She woke up earlier than usual the next morning. To her it was always like that, either too late or too soon.
The blanket was more on the floor than on her body, and Guy had let go of her in the middle of the night, now facing the wall, his back to her. Diane yawned and it took a few more minutes for her to become truly conscious, her mind being in that strange state where no thoughts made sense, reality blending in with the rest of the dream. As her husband was a nerd for that sort of thing, - okay, she was also a little - she knew that middle ground was called the Twilight Zone.
Another yawn escaped her as she reached for her cell phone on top of the cupboard, unplugging it from the charger.
She was grateful that she was still so groggy when she noticed that she had a new message.
 It was from Mr Peanutbutter.
She clicked before she even had time to think. She knew exactly the way the dog wrote, full of emojis and exclamation points.
However, this time there were only a few lines of text:
"Good morning, sunshine! Thank you for yesterday, I loved coming to your house
I have to admit I was nervous about things getting awkward between us."
What the fuck did he mean by that?
Damn Twilight Zone and its power to make her so dumb and slow!
Diane yawned yet again. She realized that she did this when she wanted to pretend she wasn’t nervous. She then went back to bed, trying to sleep again.
She already missed when all she felt was just guilt. Not this other feeling that she was also quite used to.
(NOTE: Over the last few weeks, I've been slowly rediscovering my love for writing. It's been comforting!
This was initially supposed to be a oneshot, but it would be huge so I thought it’s best to separate it into smaller chapters,,, in my head, there will be 3! But you never know when it comes to me.
Oddly my favorite part so far is writing Guy's lines, I have so much love for him inside of me)

I love Mr Peanutbutter. I love how in any other show he would be a bit character to act as a foil for the lead, and he definitely is a foil, but at the same time he's so genuinely well developed. I love how he's extremely loyal to everyone, including BoJack. I love how he's so positive but to the point of actively denying the circumstances around him and trying to distract himself all the time. I love his quote in S3 "It's going to be great, as it always is, from my perspective" and how it summarises his personality so well. I love how he ends the show single and in therapy, and I wish the show spent more time on that. I love Mr Peanutbutter, he's such an amazing character.

Not to combine my two favorite things again (with an audience so niche it is just me and three other people) but: I feel like the study group member most likely to encounter a Leitner in the wild would be Britta, but the one most likely to own one would be Abed, even if he doesn't know what it is fully. Britta finds a haunted pamphlet at a protest made of human skin that gives her the ability to see death, but that clone comic in Geothermal Escapism is so expensive because its cursed (stranger connection). I also think it would be funny if Pierce owned a couple just like stashed away in his mansion (and that's why he's like that). Troy finds em one day and the only one he opens gives him the urge to go out to sea........... Perhaps join the tundra............ (SORRY)

CANON TBH
write a fictional story were bojack horseman gets hit on by Mr. Peanutbutter
Bojack Horseman had just finished a long day on the set of his new film when he decided to head to his favorite bar for a drink. As he walked in, he noticed that the place was unusually busy, and the atmosphere was charged with excitement.
Looking around, Bojack spotted Mr. Peanutbutter, his long-time rival and former co-star on the hit show "Horsin' Around." As Bojack made his way over to the bar, Mr. Peanutbutter called out to him.
"Hey, Bojack! How's it going, buddy?"
Bojack bristled at the overly friendly greeting, knowing that Mr. Peanutbutter was always trying to one-up him. But before he could respond, Mr. Peanutbutter leaned in and whispered, "You know, Bojack, I've always found you incredibly attractive."
Bojack recoiled in shock, not quite sure how to respond to Mr. Peanutbutter's sudden come-on. "What the hell are you talking about, Peanutbutter?" he muttered, trying to play it cool.
But Mr. Peanutbutter wasn't deterred. "I mean it, Bojack. I've always had a thing for you. I think you're hot."
Bojack was taken aback by Mr. Peanutbutter's blatant advances, but he couldn't help feeling a twinge of curiosity. Was it possible that Mr. Peanutbutter, his arch-nemesis, was actually interested in him?
As the night wore on, Bojack found himself drawn to Mr. Peanutbutter's charm and wit, and before he knew it, they were locked in a passionate embrace. Bojack had never felt so alive, so desired, so wanted.
But as the night came to a close, Bojack realized that his feelings for Mr. Peanutbutter were more complicated than he had expected. Could he really be attracted to his former co-star and arch-rival?
In the end, Bojack decided that he needed more time to figure out his true feelings. But one thing was for sure: he had never felt more alive than he did when he was with Mr. Peanutbutter.

Little Known Things About Me
There are a lot of basic facts about me that most people know about me or can ponder as guess to being a favorite or like of mine. Such as my favorite color is blue, any shade really but specifically the teals/turquoise shades. Or that I am a dog lover, and you will never convince me that another animal is any better. That Snoopy is probably the best thing ever in the world, and this is one…

hihi! :) (let’s hope the tumblr gods don’t eat this)
do you have any thoughts about modern sevika tastes? i.e how she dresses, the scents she likes to wear, the music she might like, what her phone case might be like. things like that! :)
- topdrop anon
i have a few, but i would LOVE to hear your guys thoughts in the comments too!!
men and minors dni
she dresses practically: pants with lots of pockets, shoes with steel toes, breathable and easy to wash fabrics. but i think she's got a little fashion sense in her, and she knows how good she looks, so she's always buying her clothes just one size too small so all her muscles are on full display, pulling and tugging at the tight fabric of her clothes.
lots of shades of gray and black. some earthy tones-- olive greens and tans and browns. a few pops of color here and there: her favorite red jacket, the purple beanie she wears in winter.
all her socks are black. but her boxers are the cutsy-est things you've ever seen. prints of little hearts, dogs, kitties, ducks, lolipops; writing over the ass like 'eat me' or 'kiss me'; she keeps most of her attire serious, but her undies are always goofy.
i think her left arm would either be a prosthetic or covered in tattoos. shoulder to fingertips.
she's totally the type of person to drive in silence. or listen to the news. she doesn't really listen to music, but she's got a few jazz vinyls she's always cycling through at home. i think it's mostly instrumental, but she does have a soft spot for some soulful singing (which means she cries when nina simone comes on every. single. time. and can you blame her?)
as much as i want to make her a punk-rocker, i just think she'd find it noisy and annoying hahaha.
her phone case is either clear, or it's super bulky and has a little latch on it so she can latch it to her belt lmaoooo.
she keeps the background photo as the default picture it comes with, until she meets you. (she changes it to a pic of the two of you kissing the SECOND you agree to be her girlfriend. she grins after you say yes, pulls her phone out, and quickly changes her background, whispering, "fuck yes, i've been waiting to get rid of this boring ass wallpaper.")
i don't know how to describe scents, but i picture her smelling fresh, like kinda minty, but in a irish spring way. sandalwood too. but on top of all her soaps and lotions, she wears a really warm scented cologne, like tobacco and brown sugar and whiskey and coconut. like amber-y smelling?
she tries to deny the fact that she's got a sweet tooth. she's always munching on chips or nuts or other salty snacks. but that's just because if she starts on a sugary treat, she won't be able to stop herself until it's all gone.
you find this out after you gift her a pan of brownies for her birthday in the morning, and find that they're gone by lunchtime.
now, you always keep little chocolates and hard candies on you to pass to her when she looks stressed. she always gives you the biggest, happiest eyes you've ever seen, like you've just handed her a check for a million dollars instead of a peanutbutter cup.
taglist!

How does Viv claim Helluva is mature in any way when it can’t even be adult enough to write a breakup, in case it makes the diehard fangirls cry? And, all at the expense of telling a good story.
Can you imagine if Bojack an actual mature adult yet silly and comedic show, were just way too scared to break up Diane and Mr Peanutbutter because of all of the cute “DianeButter” fanart and merch or something? It’s pathetic.
Viv will never achieve this kind of grace and maturity even if you force her to study it every single day for five years.

Mr. Peanutbutter and Todd would throw together an event just like that Willy Wonka shitshow except instead of intentionally scamming people they're just grossly incompetent
They have this grand vision of a magical wonderland and then at the last minute:
"Todd what do you mean you got kidnapped by meth dealers you were supposed to write the script that's due tomorrow!"
"Don't worry about it man I can still get it done with help from my buddy AI. Did you get the decorations and stuff?"
"Oh biscuits, that totally-not-suspicious looking website never delivered my packages"

Longing (chapter 2 - bjhm fanfiction)
(I don't know how to put titles on mobile, in case it looks weird)
Anyways, I finally finished editing the second chapter of my AU fanfic!
Tumblr media
You can read it on google docs or under the cut:
Longing
.
.
.
Diane's routine remains exactly the same, except for the constant presence of Mr. Peanutbutter
(I think it would be nice to say, as a warning, that there are a lot of reflections about emotional cheating in the first half of this chapter. But everything will be alright, you’ll understand when you read it ^^’)
"I miss you" the words came out of Mr. Peanutbutter's mouth quickly, as if he would lose courage if he didn't say them in that exact second.
"You saw me, like, last night." Diane shrugged and moved the phone to her other ear, already starting to feel uncomfortable in her own skin.
"I know... Yeah." He laughed to himself, his voice losing its serious tone when he completed. " I need to go back to recording, ehrrrr... now! See you later, Diane!"
Did he really need to say her name like that every time?
"Bye, Mr Peanutbutter."
After disconnecting the call, she continued standing in the same place, trying to regain her concentration.
Texas might be even hotter than California, but even that didn't save it from certain freezing nights. At least it didn't come close to that freezing hell Chicago called winter. It was funny, right? How many places has she once called home?
That thought got her feet moving again, walking down the middle of the street. It had just gotten dark, which meant that was the time her eyes still hadn't gotten used to how bright the shop windows were. Everything got her attention. Her legs shivered in the icy wind, and soon her eyes were caught by the jeans in the store next to her, now being twice as interesting.
The cafeteria next door looked warm and comfortable, the walls painted dark browns and oranges. She was almost dragged inside, only stopping herself because she knew Guy was waiting for her at home - she imagined it well: he would be on the sofa with his feet on the table and the sketchbook in his lap. He would flash his typical smile when he saw her coming, and Diane would quickly remove her boots and coat and slip into her warm pajamas. By the time she was out of the shower, he would’ve prepared two mugs of hot chocolate. The two of them would drink in bed, and Diane would hide again among the fur on his neck, even forgetting the cold.
What was a coffee shop next to that?
She quickened her steps, excited.
When her mind returned to place, she was already facing a window again, almost hypnotized. That was certainly a nice coat... If she was going to buy it, it would be in the future. Now, home! This same thought process happened another 20 times until she reached her destination. As soon as she finished climbing the short staircase leading to her front door, she kicked her boots off her feet. She couldn't wait to stop shivering and be able to breathe without blowing a puff of smoke from her mouth.
Her house was quiet and dark, but none of it was too out of character for it. Guy always used to arrive around that time, staying in the room until he stopped being too lazy to do anything else. So Diane walked with calm steps into the room, not surprised by the sight she found:
Her husband had the sketchbook on his lap, but it nearly fell off his knee. He was far more interested in what he was typing on his cell phone, letting out a small chuckle to himself. Only then did he noticed her presence:
"Diane! Babe, it's too cold today, isn't it?"
She didn't need another word to understand the invitation:
"Very…" She mumbled, lazily crawling under the covers beside him. Changing clothes could wait a little while. The bath too. This was the moment she'd been waiting for all day, already feeling her body heat up completely as she made herself comfortable and started rubbing her cheek against Guy's shoulder.
"Do you have any theories about what the movie Mr Peanutbutter is shooting is? He doesn't want to tell me!" Guy commented, with even better humor than usual.
Oh, sure. Mr Peanutbutter.
Diane curled up a little to answer, yawning and stretching her legs out from under the covers one second, only to curl back up like a cat the next.
She couldn't get away from it, could she?
"He didn't tell me anything about it either," she shrugged, "but I think it's kind of obvious."
"It's a horror movie, isn't it!?"
"For sure! I guess it's even a sequel to some other famous franchise."
Guy took that as the confirmation he needed, perking up and getting back to typing. Out of the corner of her eye, Diane caught a few written words: "The Ring 5?"; "It 3?"; "No, I don't think it's this one"; "But it's horror."
Mr Peanutbutter responded at the exact second: "No more guesses!!!", "They'll kill me if this gets out!! :(".
She should stop being so nosy!
Her stomach lurched when she noticed that Guy was already laughing again.
"You and my ex husband having any intimacy was not in my bingo of bizarre things that would happen to me" she tried to make a joke to lighten the mood… for herself.
"Well, he's here all the time now."
Yeah, she couldn't deny it.
The presence of that yellow dog became a constant another time, and that wasn't something you could prepare for.
During the last few years, she found herself thinking about Mr Peanutbutter from time to time. Usually it happened on nights when she couldn't sleep and lost control of her thoughts. Or when everything went bad again, and her mind found confusing and desperate solutions for any kind of comfort.
She had already accepted that guilt was a feeling that would always accompany her when she was around her ex-husband.
Now the longing mixed and started several other reflections.
Since she'd moved from California, she'd learned what it was like to genuinely miss someone. A faint smile broke out when she saw a rare selfie posted by Princess Carolyn. She perked up every time Todd and Maude made a sudden visit, bringing with them another chaotic day that she was growing increasingly unaccustomed to.
With Mr. Peanutbutter... It was a little different. With him everything always was.
Every time he texted her or dropped by her house to watch another obscure movie with Guy... Diane learned something new about longing. It was like she was living her story with someone for a second time.
She would never forget the time she met the dog. She was walking alone in her apartment, completely silly, while the two chatted on MySpace. He was kind and happy and so different from anyone else she had ever met. Gradually, she began to open up more to him, who always seemed interested in listening and praising her and making her feel good in her own skin. It was an almost addictive feeling, her head feeling light as she felt a small hope inside of her.
Conversations turned to dates, and Diane finally accepted that a celebrity was really interested in someone like her. Someone, in general, was interested in her. Yeah, it was a good thing to think about. When she realized it, she had already moved in with him and lived the ten most bittersweet years of her existence, in which she was relieved that they were over, but which she didn't regret for a second.
Things weren't so different these days, which was why she was worried. Part of her -the most selfish one- almost begged for the shooting of that shitty movie to end so that she would never have to look that labrador in the eyes again. Because she didn't know how to react anymore every time Mr Peanutbutter complimented her new hairstyle or said he missed her.
It was an old feeling. So old it fooled her into thinking it was something new. And that made her nervous.
She let her head fall back onto Guy's shoulder, who was still distracted by his messages, seeming to be having the conversation of his life. What would he do if he knew what she was thinking? She thought it was time to accept a truth about herself, letting all these feelings hurt as much as they should:
It didn't matter if she was talking about Mr Peanutbutter or Guy: she had never been a very good wife...
•∆•
Things were always easier after acceptance. This was the last phase, above all.
Now she opened the door when Mr. Peanutbutter came to visit after the shooting, greeting him with a comment or a joke. He smiled every time, his eyes glued on her and the tip of his tail flicking back and forth. In the background, she could hear Guy saying how he had prepared cookies - "with no chocolate!"
On second thought, maybe she and Guy were bored before that. The adrenaline of a new city had long since worn off, and they didn't have much to worry about outside of work. Guy had been promoted to news anchor, and Diane still had ten months to release the next volume of Ivy Tran. It was almost inevitable how long she took to write, spending most of her days boringly watching TV, walking around or dozing on the couch until her husband got home.
With Mr Peanutbutter there most nights now, she at least had new information to occupy her mind:
"Everything went wrong today, not even if we had recorded a sequel to 2012 by Roland Emmerich it would have been so catastrophic!" The dog commented as he deliberately shook his shoulders, heading to sit on the sofa (feeling as much at home as he could).
Intrigued, Diane followed, going beside him and leaning her arm on the back of the sofa.
"What happened?"
"Someone forgot to blow out the candles we were using and WE LOST HALF OF THE SET!" He explained everything by gesturing with his hands. "This should take a couple of weeks to be redone, we'll even have to delete some scenes from today because of continuity."
He would spend more time there then, wouldn't he?
"Wow, that reminds me of when we recorded Philbert" Diane smiled at the memory. "It was almost impossible to have a quiet day.”
"Speaking of Philbert," Guy joined them at that moment, taking the empty spot on the sofa and offering the pot of cookies for both, "I know nowadays the plot holes are more noticeable and some parts haven't aged well... But I'm still sad that it was canceled... And it's kind of weird knowing that I'm now together with two people who worked on the production, yeah.
"You get used to it pretty soon," Diane shrugged, taking a second bite of her cookie.
"And you know what's going to be even weirder?" Mr Peanutbutter laughed as he completed. "When you watch my new movie and realize you couldn't figure out what it was."
"That's it!? No! I still have time! Did you say candles? Something with exorcism then?"
"Nope!"
Diane rolled her eyes, enjoying her seemingly new routine.
The next day, she had helped Guy make lasagna. At the kitchen table, her husband asked:
"It's not supernatural, right? Maybe a slasher movie?"
"It's kind of supernatural, yes," Mr Peanutbutter replied, still with his mouth full.
"Are you kidding? What more options are left?"
"Think a little more~"
The following week, they'd stayed up until midnight watching a few episodes of Mr Peanutbutter's House and Horsin' Around, just laughing and talking a little about the past. Diane increasingly realized how much lighter it was to talk about such matters now, quite different from when she first moved from California. Guy was starting to pick up on their inside jokes, commenting on how Blarn had been a great idea. Diane accepted the compliment, feeling nostalgic.
That same day, the three put on a random documentary, talking until dawn. Diane only woke up—and realized she had fallen asleep in the first place—at 2:00 am, finding it kind of amusing to realize that Mr. Peanutbutter and Guy were doing the same, in a competition of who was in the most uncomfortable position. Asking the dog to go back to the hotel felt wrong, so Diane just woke Guy up and the two of them silently went to their room.
The next morning, after the mess, they had breakfast together, Mr. Peanutbutter taking one of the spare toothbrushes and changing for work in their bathroom, saying goodbye in that stupidly domestic way.
Diane's more selfish side returned, and she almost hoped something would destroy the other half of the set for whatever movie he was shooting.
•∆•
Taylor Swift's The Way I Loved You was looping in her head, and for a good reason. She couldn't fall asleep, her thoughts starting to bother her again. Then she kept saying to herself, "nostalgia is a lying bitch and you DON'T miss your life with Mr Peanutbutter. The divorce was the biggest proof of love you ever made for each other."
Yes, that was the truth. Yes Yes Yes. Now she just had to accept it.
To make her point even more clear, she forced herself to remember all the bad times they ever had. All the times he didn't listen, that infuriated her and made her feel terrible about herself and for not getting to be the wife he thought she was.
She also couldn't forget how disastrous and selfish they were together, doing what they'd done to Pickles, only to get nowhere with it.
She certainly didn't miss the fights and the thousands of nights they slept without speaking after yelling at each other.
She just thought so because everything was fine now.
She sighed, shifting her position. Unlike her, Guy was in a deep, peaceful sleep, on his back and snoring softly. Carefully, she brought the back of her hand to his cheek, lightly stroking his fur.
She still loved him. Very very very much. In a way as strong and desperate as she was when she first met him. He was kind, funny, and all the company and comfort she needed in her life.
Diane was confused, and admitting anything in her own head scared her.
But she needed to state the obvious.
She was still in love with Mr Peanutbutter, wasn't she?
•∆•
Now the way was to be angry at him, she realized. It must’ve been her brain's way of not blaming herself so much and pretending that she wasn't about to destroy her whole life all over again.
However, it got so... so difficult when he still showed up on her doorstep every time, tail wagging, another colorful coat and a bottle of expensive wine in hand.
"Something tells me that Guy is going to like it there..." She commented, a light smile involuntarily appearing on her lips.
And she was right. The three of them gathered at the kitchen table again. Diane sipped from her glass, the taste taking her years back. Mr Peanutbutter always bought that same wine for them to drink.
"Tastes like wealth," was the conclusion Guy got, and she laughed because it had been the same as hers.
She missed that, didn't she!?
They watched Hereditary. Guy tried to guess Mr Peanutbutter's movie and failed. At night, when the two were in bed, her husband murmured:
"I know that's how dogs are, but he shouldn't stick his head out the car window... It's dangerous."
Diane smiled.
If she had that routine for even one more day, she would freak out.
Fortunately, that was not what fate had prepared for her.
When she got home the next night, Guy was already there, just like usual. He sat on the sofa, however, something was wrong. She could feel it. She entered the room with some caution, trying to notice what gave her such an impression. It was even easy to know. The TV was off this time, leaving the whole environment in an intimidating silence, mixed with how Guy didn't do anything, just sat there.
When she was close enough, he began to speak:
"I've been waiting for you to arrive," his tone was hard to read. It didn't have much emotion, giving her the awful impression that he must've been rehearsing it in his head while she was gone "we need to talk about something."
Her brain stopped working, going to the past. A few years in the past. "It was good while it lasted". BoJack? BoJack had told her that phrase once, hadn't he? For some reason, it was what was repeated over and over in her thoughts.
"Okay..." She murmured, almost whispering, taking her pose as a child who was about to be scolded. She didn't have much choice but to sit next to him, avoiding eye contact for as long as she could.
She thought she was hiding it well, at least. She didn't even let herself believe that, and this was the hope she was moving forward with... apparently, she wasn't even right about that.
Now her anxiety peaked, feeling her fingertips begin to tingle.
She had almost forgotten what that felt like.
What would become of her now? Would she stay in Houston? Would she go back for another round of small, impersonal apartments? Would it go back exactly where it started, half a lifetime ago?
Or would she try to convince Guy that she could ignore it... and forget about it? - something she would genuinely like to do.
"Look, Diane, I don't even know how to talk about this," Guy continued finally, and Diane struggled to make out the words. Just like her, he didn't look in her direction, "It's going to be kind of weird, okay?"
Maybe she couldn't even stay in Houston. She wouldn't know how to handle the situation. Maybe she would have to go back to being Diane and run away to whatever other town that would accept her.
"Okay," she sighed, giving up. "I think I already know what it is."
"You know!?" He looked oddly surprised, almost scared.
Wait.
"What? What... What is it?"
The silence then returned in double. The two stared at each other, their expressions blank and not daring to speak a single word.
Diane ventured:
"Guy?'
He needed yet another few seconds to continue:
"Now I don't have the courage to talk anymore..."
"Don't you dare! What happened, Guy?"
"Nothing!" It was his turn to be defensive. "That's the case, okay? Nothing really happened and I don't mean to suggest that we should break up or anything."
"What are you talking about?"
"You have every right to be angry, but..."
"With you winding up like that, it's really hard not to be!"
"I don't think there's an easy way to say this."
Then another pause, and now that was the last straw. Diane was so nervous that she could barely feel her hands; her body sweated and she saw white:
"G..." But she was soon interrupted.
"I think I'm in love with Mr. Peanutbutter!"
What?
"What!?"
Now it looked like a challenge to who looked the most terrified, both of them looking like wild animals that would run at any sudden movement.
Diane changed position, almost getting up from the couch:
"Did you just tell me... that YOU are in love with Mr Peanutbutter?" Disproving her theory, saying it out loud didn't make it any more real. Quite the opposite.
"I thought I told you that I was bisexual and that..." He stopped mid-sentence. Normally Guy was someone easygoing and calm, traits that fit her perfectly. Guy always had solutions to any problem, making her feel like she was on the ground every time she needed to.
Now, however, it was like he was about to pass out from embarrassment.
"That's not the problem, of course!" Diane shook her head, trying to control all the trillions of feelings and speak more calmly. "With Mr Peanutbutter, my ex-husband?"
"It's as ridiculous as it sounds," he tried to smile, giving up in the next second. "I wanted to tell you because... I don't know why, it felt right. I swear I never got close to doing anything to him.... I thought you could help me - no, not that! We could think of a solution together. Or not. I don't know."
"I'm a pretty bad person for that."
"Huh?"
"Guess who's in love with Mr Peanutbutter, too?"
It was as if a switch had been flipped, the mood in the room completely changing in an instant. The silence had disappeared and given way to the laughter that now came out.
They stayed like that for a long time, laughing. So much that Diane began to suspect the obvious and how it wasn't because they found the situation funny.
After that came, of course, silence. They stared at each other, and Diane thought the last time she felt so uncomfortable around Guy was when he made her jump out the window to hide it from his son:
"And now...?"
"We admit that we are equally terrible and forgive each other...?" Guy ventured, cocking his head to the side.
"Deal!" She would like to put that behind her, for sure. "But... What about him?"
Now Guy shrugged:
"I don't know that."
They were screwed.
Of course they were.
There wasn't even a chance that this story would end well. But that wasn't the only part that concerned Diane. She felt confused, which left her mind almost blank, not knowing what to think or how to react. Almost as if her life didn't belong to her and she was just watching an episode of TV. And, in the midst of it all, she couldn't help but notice how strangely light she felt. She had gotten so used to carrying that weight that she never even imagined what she would do after that.
Without the guilt and longing, who was she now?
•∆•
Now that she could finally accept it, she let herself enjoy the good parts of the present and the past. When they said that time away from someone was sometimes necessary, they were completely right. The Mr Peanutbutter she lived with now still had all the traits that made him him: an oddly charismatic personality; always praising everyone and trying to be positive, for better or for worse; he still looked kind of distracted, as if he didn't hear her, but he ended up proving the opposite every now and then.
However, his only change was not just the whitish hairs on his muzzle that made him even more endearing: just as she noticed when she first saw him in Houston, it was as if Mr. Peanutbutter had finally matured. He never crossed the line or tried to prove himself to her. He was calmer. Nicer.
She's never forgotten that call she'd had with him one day, years ago, in Chicago. When she suggested that their relationship would probably work with them as they were at the time, Mr Peanutbutter replied that they were only the way they were because of the relationship they once had.
How he had changed. They both had, didn't they?
She asked, every time, if she was right that day. If only they could try a second time. Would everything go back to the way it was before, when the anxiety killed her knowing that they would fight again, practically daily? Or was it closer to the beginning of their relationship, where everything had that rare emotion and she started to feel like she belonged somewhere?
When Mr. Peanutbutter was at her house or they went out with him to see the city, she had to stop herself from kissing him, without saying a word. She liked to imagine that he still felt the same way, having all the same questions but choosing to ignore them for the moment.
If only things were that easy... But at least she wasn't alone. And she could tell Guy all this now, so that he would do the same with his own doubts:
"Wasn't it weird?" He questioned, turning his head on the pillow to face her. "Dating someone so famous, I mean. How did you deal with all his fans? Weren't you jealous?"
"In the beginning, I kind of was," these were such distant memories that she wasn't sure anymore "but I was winning, wasn't I? At least he never gave me the impression that he was going to cheat on me, so I stopped worrying one day."
"Wait, wasn't there something that he cheated on his girlfriend a few years ago? That pug girl, huh?"
Diane's complete silence and Guy's increasingly worried expression indicated that he was starting to connect the dots.
"Ehrrrrr promise not to judge me too much? "Diane asked, smiling sheepishly.
"WAS IT WITH YOU!? Oh dear lord, this is why you want to change the channel when she appears, it all makes so much more sense!"
"What did you think that was the reason?"
"That he had left you for her or something."
"Nah, it was after our divorce. But very close to our divorce, which must have been one of the reasons it happened, now that I stopped to think about it..."
"Diane... I think it must be time for you to tell me the whole story, no?"
"Of my ten years of marriage?"
"As much as you want to tell."
They went to sleep only hours later. Diane didn't try to hide the bad parts, figuring Guy deserved to know what he was getting into. She never thought she could be so honest with him. Maybe she really was past the stage of fear that he would abandon her if he found out who she really was. Instead, he laughed at parts of the story, and only lightly judged her when she deserved it. There was no disgust or heartbreak in his gaze, just pure interest. Obviously she didn't come close to telling everything, not even knowing if that would be possible. But at the end of it all, she was able to return to his arms until they fell asleep. Just like every day for the last few years.
Guy was here to stay.
Diane still wasn't quite used to having company at times as confusing and complicated as this one... But it was something she could get used to.
•∆•
As it was Sunday again, they took the opportunity to go out into the city. Even though it wasn't close to snowing, Houston winters were still quite cold at night. This fact always slipped her mind, until she found herself clutching her coat. She walked closer to Guy, who soon got the message and put his arm around her shoulder to warm her up more.
He had the slight impression that Mr. Peanutbutter watched the scene for a second longer than he should have, but at that point, it could just be her imagination.
The dog walked faster again, his attention going from window to window, with the same admiration of a child:
"The buildings remain my favorite part of here!" He commented, his tongue sticking out of his mouth as he turned to them.
"Aren't they going to be part of any scenery in your movie?" Guy questioned. Diane thought that if he didn't talk about it once a day, he would die. "Why haven't they closed any streets for recording yet? Since it needed to be here in Houston?"
Mr Peanutbutter hesitated a few seconds before replying:
"It doesn’t need the street itself."
"I've given up guessing which one it is, okay?"
"Ahhh Guy, come on, just think about the things you..." Then he interrupted himself, his attention being stolen by yet another shop window. Diane couldn't judge him, soon joining him to look at the clothes displayed there.
It was one of those more expensive stores that Diane suddenly had to wean herself off going to. Most of what was on the mannequins were coats and flannel shirts, all with an extra layer of fur, which could only indicate that they were warm.
"I've never seen this jacket in California, I've been wanting to buy it!" Mr Peanutbutter pointed to one in particular: jeans and a medium coppery blue. It didn't look like the clothes he normally wore, but he could easily picture him in it.
Diane had such a terrible moment when she forgot to control herself, the words just coming out of her mouth:
"I'll buy it as a gift for you!"
Guy and he stared at her at the same time, the labrador practically without reaction as he raised his eyebrows:
"You're really lovely for the offer, but I was about to buy it already."
"No!" She was insistent, knowing that now her pride was at stake. "I was wanting to give you a gift anyway," Lie "so you'll have a souvenir when you get back to Los Angeles."
It was almost imperceptible, but his smile faded a little. During that very instant, he looked…disappointed? Maybe sad. That simple demonstration made Diane's heart want to race, everything in her body telling her that she must say something, that this was her chance.
But she obviously continued in the same position, static, letting Mr Peanutbutter mumble:
"Yeah... If you insist, who am I to say no!?"
While Guy was chuckling beside her - he would certainly throw that in her face later, the two had a little personal competition on who would humiliate themselves more in front of the dog - Diane walked into the store with the two of them, only to grab the jacket from the hangers she found and pretend she didn't read the price tag that hung with it. If Guy wanted to murder her after that, it would be just as deserved. She had to thank him for being in such a good mood.
She headed to the cashier to pay, after realizing that Mr. Peanutbutter wasn't even going to try on the outfit - he and Guy had already gotten distracted and gone to another corner of the store, pointing and amused at everything. They were just looking at jeans, what was so funny?
Diane smirked as she watched the two of them, again in that stupidly domestic scene that she wanted more and more of.
Coming back to reality, she turned to the woman at the cashier - an Abert's squirrel, with her fluffy ears and all - who was glaring at her gleefully:
"Is it a gift?"
"Yes, it is," Diane smiled back, soon after choosing a package with a baseball print. She knew he would like that one.
She took out her card to pay, the squirrel cocking her head in her direction again:
"Do you know who Mr Peanutbutter is?"
"Huh?" Diane's brain apparently worked very slowly today. Or she was just very distracted, in her own thoughts. "I do!"
"It's him back there, isn't it?" She looked anxious, surreptitiously pointing to where the dog was.
Already knowing what to expect, Diane glanced around, seeing how he and Guy had already moved into another section of the store, with more colorful clothes. Picking up a purple T-shirt, Guy commented something along the lines of "I already told you that I'm bisexual?", in the most unnatural way possible, making Diane have to control herself not to laugh. Okay, now she would have a point for the conversation they would have before bed.
"Of course it's him!" Diane said to the squirrel. "He's talking to my husband."
"Serious? What? Wait, so are you... You are..."
"Diane Nguyen."
Of course, that poor saleswoman had no idea who she could be. Something she'd learned from the life of being famous enough was that you'd be almost recognizable far more often than totally.
After saying goodbye, she noticed how the squirrel followed her with her eyes while she called the two men with her hand, without having the courage to approach. It was a shame, Mr Peanutbutter enjoyed interacting with his fans.
Once outside, Diane remembered how cold it was, practically being knocked out by the wind. Imagine if she was in Chicago? She would never take it!
She then turned to Mr Peanutbutter, holding out the bag with the package:
"It doesn't have the same excitement as a surprise gift, but here it is!"
He didn't react at first, but the way he tilted his head slightly to the left, the tip of his tongue sticking out between his teeth… Yeah, he liked it. Years ago, in the midst of her despair over her doomed marriage, she read about the 5 love languages. Classic thing that everyone knows nowadays, you know? The conclusion she reached was that Mr. Peanutbutter delivered exactly his own, which he would like to get back.
An extra gift for him would be worth it, wouldn't it?
He held the package in his hands, glancing at the package and enveloping her in a sudden strong hug. He was still so warm, just the right size for her to sink her chin into the yellow fur on his neck. So familiar. So weird.
"Thank you," he said when separating, a little shy. That was new! "I'll get revenge one day for that, huh!"
"Anytime you want!"
Finally, she gave Guy a wide smile: her underhanded way of saying she'd won this time. He nodded and lowered his head, giving her the pleasure of victory.
She felt like a teenager doing that sort of thing, in a way she hadn't genuinely experienced in decades.
It was still good.
They didn't do much more than that before they parted ways. They took Mr. Peanutbutter to his hotel, where they had another rather uncomfortable farewell, where none of the three knew how to react. Just wave? Shake hands? Hug? All options were bad.
"Sooo, see you again on Monday, which means tomorrow!?" The dog opened a big embarrassed smile as he took a few steps back, pointing to both of them with his index fingers. "Oh, I just remembered. Guy, about what you told me inside the store?"
"What...?" The other looked genuinely confused.
"Forget it! It was nothing! I'll be there tomorrow night, I miss you two already!"
And so he was gone, walking into the hotel. He had fled.
Whatever it was, Diane and Guy just stood there, not daring to move.
"Diane... Do you think that us telling him would be the worst thing that could happen?"
"I don't know anymore," she shrugged, releasing all the air she had in her lungs. "I just spent $600.00 dollars on a jacket."
(Finally my knowledge of horror movies has come in handy for something!
After a few months, I finally got the inspiration to finish this chapter! Now there's only one left)

god I am just having such a great fucking time I've missed being an active part of the DW fandom I really have
rambling flailing-my-arms thoughts for anyone who wants them about Wild Blue Yonder below
HIGH. BUDGET. MIDNIGHT. WHAT THE FUCk. OH MY GOD I LOVE WHEN DOCTOR WHO DOES FUCKED UP COSMIC HORROR.
I forgot how terrifying the Miss Evangelista Face Warp Effect could truly be
I FUCKING LOVE EPISODES THAT JUST. GIVE REALLY GREAT ACTORS SOME REALLY GREAT CHARACTER WORK I AM ETERNALLY A SUCKER FOR THE "IM PLAYING TWO DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE SAME BODY AT THE SAME TIME" SHIT IT'S SUCH. GOOD. TV. JADFLKSDLFKJSDFLASDKFLSD;JF
They have got to fucking explain what's going on with Mavity, they wouldn't just. Write that whole sequence with Newton and Gravity being named something different. It's gotta Mean Something.
To be meta about some of the writing, it's soooooo smart to have Everyone's Fave David Tennant up there doing all the Queer Shit like acknowledging Newton is hot bc it's suchhhh a good way to grease the skids for what is, inevitably, going to be SUCH a queer era of DW with Ncuti. And by putting this all up front, it really does weed out the bad earlier than later so it can't be pinned on Fifteen specifically. Bc I really don't want to see that happen
CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW TEN DONNA WAS IN THE SEQUENCE WHERE THEY GOT UPSET WITH EACH OTHER. The way she chastised the DOCTOR for wandering off. And the little Sniff of Indignation. It's SO FUckinG fascinating to see Post-Metacrisis Donna bc her character is Inevitably Somewhat Changed and it's SOOOO COOOL
THE PRACTICAL. FUCKING. EFFECTS. I CANNOT GET OVER IT. THE BEHIND THE SCENES WAS SO COOL I HATE THOSE FUCKING ARMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think one post really recapped it well, I'll have to reblog it - it just makes my blood boil all over again for Jodie is that like. I got more emotional catharsis out of Fourteen working through the Flux conversation with Not Donna than I did out of the end of Jodie's run. I'm realizing it's not even that I didn't like a lot of Chibnall's ideas - I DO! It's the lack of emotional follow through! LET THIRTEEN EMOTE AND EMOTE HEAVILY.
Tennant really is still the actor ever, you can so easily see 11, 12, 13 and a touch of something new in all of his performance and it's FABULOUS it's so obviously Not Ten and I know everyone is saying it but it's so reassuring (this take stolen from @peanutbutter-nutella bc of course we were flail-texting <3)
WHAT ABOUT THE SALT SUPERSTITION WHERE ARE WE GOING WITH THIS
God. God. Anyway. So far, RTD2 is really forcing me to reckon with my own biases and hypocrisies too, because I find myself going "fuck yeah more of THAT" and then realizing it's functionally the same as something from (gestures at everything from Eleven to Thirteen). And frankly it's making me fall back in love with more of the show all over again. And appreciating each piece for what it is, and where it falls short, and how that can still... be okay. I just really, REALLY love this silly show

If anyone is a PeanutButter type it's Wade, you're telling me he doesn't ask "woah, is this a crossover episode?" To the forth wall? , Wade is the type of person to get really mad when someone says he isn't Mr PeanutButter. Anyway to my actual ask, I think Peter would be Diane, he's just.. Her. It feels like Diane's drive to write so her damage isn't good damage, it's just damage is very similar to Peters drive to protect others and use his powers responsibly because for Pete, if he doesn't follow responsibility then all the things he's been through, and especially uncle Ben's death, if he's responsible it means something good came out of it.
I think I could talk forever about the parallels between Peter and Diane. Even the parallels between Peter and Wade's relationship and Mr PeanutButter and Diane's relationship.
i really do think there's a huge - huge parallel to be drawn between mr peanutbutter and wade, yeah. i was actually thinking about the way wade "copes" as i was writing this stupid little deadpool analysis in my head this morning.
like - okay. bojack and mr peanutbutter are kind of the same beast, but their outlooks are different. both bojack and mr peanutbutter are kind of tirelessly looking for validation and attention. but bojack fails at it because of his rancid, self-pitying negative vibes - whereas mr peanutbutter tirelessly tries to be a crowd-pleaser, all the time. like he's trying to please an audience, all the time.
and that's wade wilson.
Tumblr media
wade doesn't want to be a downer. he feels empty inside, sure, and tirelessly seeks to fill that void, but he doesn't want to bring down the vibes. he wants the audience to love him. he wants love from anywhere. he doesn't care. he knows that nobody loves a killjoy. so he's going to be the fan-favourite, no matter how fake it all is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
very mr peanutbutter core, yes.
and so am i. i try to be a mr peanutbutter. a crowd-pleaser. i want all of you to think i am really really funny and attractive and loveable and the best ever so you should love me. but actually, i am sad and kind of a jerk inside. but i don't want to be a downer. i want to be a fan-favourite. so i try my darndest to make you all laugh so you'll like me.
i think i need to rewatch bojack to get into the parallels between diane and peter - but i do see where you're coming from. but i think diane is a more difficult character to reduce into a single thing - she's - well, she's complex. i think that's good, that you know, no two characters are entirely alike. peter and diane are both really very complex beasts with their own thing going on.
even in the vein of mr peanutbutter and diane's relationship vs wade and peters - i don't immediately think that wade is the mr peanutbutter in that equation. i think wade and peter both have their mr peanutbutter moments. i don't think it's a 1-1 comparison at all. but that's because every relationship has their own thing going on, and i'd really hope peter and wade's relationship doesn't have any sort of parallel - i think it's kind of one-of-a-kind, and so is diane's and mr peanutbutter's.
i can't believe i can be talking so seriously about a character named mr peanutbutter.
