It's time to talk about another OC!! This one isn't part of the same universe as the other ones, but is also a furry. Her name is Shelly and she has two human husbands.
When I created her, it wasn't that serious. It was almost a joke. I was thinking about my species swap designs for Diane, PB and Guy and I wanted to see if i could make them as full OCs - it sounded like a fun challenge. And now I can't stop thinking about them, I'm even creating a plot that I'm very happy with. I surely want to also talk about Harry and Patrick in the future (somehow they're even more developed than Shelly), but I'm focusing mostly on her today. She is 30 years old, works at a pizzeria and just wants to be loved. I love her!

The Pasts of the Forgotten Critters/Frowny fox (rewritten)
The forgotten critters were all part of different collections, paired with a smiling critter that was supposed to be part of the same collections.
Dogday, Catnap, Hoppy hopscotch, and Silly Shelly were part of the Pet collection
Jerry Giraffe, Clever Claws and Bubba Bubbaphant were part of Safari collection (In my au Bubba is an Indian Elephant but I could see Playtime co trying to sell my off as an African elephant thinking people wouldn't tell the difference)
Kickinchicken, Picky Piggy, and Molly Mc Moo were part of the farm collection
Craftycorn and Jolly jaws were paired up in a fantasy collection as Jolly wasn't any ordinary shark, he was supposed to be a Megaladon.
and finally Bobby and Frowny were made as a set for a Wild things collection (hence why their pendants are almost identical)
Their purposes and stories within the cartoons:
Jerry was going to be a love interest for Craftycorn. The two of them were paired up with the image of two shy souls who barely fit into the world coming together and changing each other for the better. Jerry was an expert at measuring, he could even guess how tall something was without needing a ruler. This, Without saying, was very useful for Crafty's art projects
Clever claws was smart but he was also dazzling, attractive, and oh so cool, everything that Bubba lacked. While Bubba was shown to get picked on and teased for not fitting in, Clever claws was able to mask himself and fit in with the crowd. He even tried to teach Bubba how to mask and fit in with the crowd but whenever Bubba tried it was met with failure, he did everything Clever claws did but it wasn't enough. Clever claws knew this and it wasn't fair, he became Bubba's best friend and taught him there was nothing to be ashamed of even if no one liked him.
Jolly jaws and Kickinchicken were paired as a playful duo, Jolly jaws was just as adventurous as Kickinchicken but he was more in favor of being save while doing (hence why a lifesafer is his pendant) While Kickin was more or less about being reckless and having fun. He teased Jolly jaws about being safe, calling him a coward, etc. One day the two of them had a surfing contest but during the surfing Kickin was knocked off his surfboard, Jolly jaws was happy until he realized that Kickin never resurfaced. He quickly dove under the surface and rescused Kickin from a watery grave. That's when Kickin really learned about the importance safety.
Molly Mc Moo's purpose in was to teach about how there needs to be a balance within someones life when i came to something they enjoy. In this case it was teaching Picky Piggy there was nothing to be ashamed of when it came to her love of Pb&J sandwhiches even if it wasn't healthy because Picky had control over herself and cared about her healthy. As long as she kept that up there was nothing wrong with a little treat now and then
Shelly and Hoppy were paired together as competitive opposites situation. Their story was supposed to be a parody of the tortoise and the hare. The two would race but Hoppy would hurt herself going so fast and Shelly would help her out teaching her that sometimes slower is better.
And finally Frowny was a fox who was hurt and bullied all his life. Then he met Bobby and she showed him what love is and how to be happy despite all the pain he's been through
Reasons for rejection:
The kids weren't impressed with Clever claws, some of the older girls thought he was a typical "self centered prince charming" and the kids thought that Jerry looked weird and made fun of him.
Similar reasons for Frowny fox, the kids hated how he smelled and saw no point in having a "Sad toy".
The kids were scared of Jolly jaws because he was a shark they tried removing his teeth but he looked too silly without them.
There was nothing wrong with Milly MC moo its just that Kickin and Picky were more popular so Molly was thrown away
Silly Shell was playing on the swings with Hoppy when he fell off, he retreated into his shell but it cracked and shattered upon impact with the ground. Shelly was deemed too hazardous for the children.
Without Molly and Shelly they could still have pet and Farm sets but they saw no point in realising Bobby, Bubba and Crafty on their own so they were all combined into the smiling critters we know today.
As time past the critters had moved on from their lost companions and forgot about them, not because they didn't care about them, it was more of a "I thought you were dead" type of forgetting

CUP ARGUMENT:
In the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley i firmly believe his creation to have been made from scratch
Rant from last time i talked about this:
Another thing I don't like, how frankenstein's monster is always depicted as an abomination
In the book victor himself said it was sickeningly beautiful, and all that at once was unsettling
And made from morgue parts? Just implied
Victor may have been a college dropout but he was looking at the morgue stuff for reference mostly and designing from there
I guess it's the yellowed skin that made people think that, but honestly he probably did borrow skin
But the bones and teeth and some organs were all custom made, no electricity needed, the moment the process was complete it started to live
This dropout studied structure of the morgue parts, he may have been full of shit but he wanted to create a new *organism* not just a life. He was struck by a vile and random series of thoughts that were the blueprints for making something
He could've started with something that was openly not human shaped but instead he decided to try human 2.0 even though he put zero whole thought while he was making it
So there's nothing to stop you from thinking
The scientist
Tumblr media
The creation
Tumblr media
The scientist's wife
Tumblr media
It's almost parallel
The difference is that pb made a second lemongrab when he was all huffy from being alone. Victor didn't do that, all he had to do was suck it up and build his creation another so he wasn't painfully lonely. But instead he stopped halfway through and it resulted in his creation killing his wife on their wedding night
Except marceline would absolutely destroy lemongrab instead of being quietly strangled to death in a barn like she did
It was the 12-1800's. If his creation was to have fucking pearl white teeth there's no way that they came out of corpses. Victor hand carved those in his haze (probably stolen pearls?) And they were a unit, extremely powerful muscles that are essentially passive body armor against gunshot and can one-hand someone's neck like throttling a goose
I read it in sophomore year and not only did victor betray everyone in his life and his child, but even though he's a deadbeat dropout most adaptations don't give him credit for actually making something so beautiful that it's scary
Imagine that lemongrab but with long black hair and that's the creation actually, except long nose
Like imagine just being born a full grown human with the same mental capacity but no information on what to do to exist
A REVISIT OF MY THOUGHTS AS STATED ABOVE
Chapter 4 of Frankenstein states that he was studying the human body and looking at the decay when he got the vision of how to create life
ALSO IT EXPLICITLY STATES THAT HE COULDN'T REANIMATE CORPSE PARTS i didn't notice that
"pursuing these reflections, i thought that if i could bestow animation on lifeless matter, i might in process of time (although i now found it impossible) renew life where death had apparently devoted the body to corruption (Shelly cp 4, page varies by typing)
So to revise my previous statement: VICTOR, A FUCKING COLLEGE DROPOUT, madw a WHOLE ASS BEING from scratch and was surprised when he seeked vengeance against the "god" that created him

I’m THIS GODDAMN CLOSE to writing a Jumanji AU for someone- literally any fandom, I don’t care
Batboys?? Fantastic. Damian becomes Ruby because he IS a feminist, Jason made the same mistake of wanting to be a moose and ended up as a mouse, Dick is Mr. Smolder, and Tim is Shelly (Jason is pissed about his position but absolutely does not miss the opportunity to make fun of Timbo for that one).
Riordanverse? Legendary. But listen: it’s either only the guys or only the girls. Hit shuffle for Annabeth, Piper, Hazel, and Calypso, or Jason, Percy, Leo, and Frank for who’s who and you’re golden no matter what. The girls beat the game considerably faster than the guys, although that was because they had to do Level 2 (they guys went first and were all “YOU GOTTA TRY ITTT”) and knew how to fake a marriage way better than the movie crew.
Spiderverse? DUDE. Miles for Smolder, PB for Mouse, Gwen for Ruby, and MCU!Peter for Shelly XD. It’s just as hilarious as the first movie because… well, it’s them. You know. ✨Them✨.
Hermitcraft? Absolutely lovely. Bdubs for Mouse and Doc for Smolder. Grian for Ruby, but he insists on being called Ariana for some reason. Ren for Shelly, simply because that’s fucking hilarious.
DSMP? Gorgeous. Dream for Smolder (naturally). Punz for Mouse because of fucking course. George for Ruby, because he’s the only one who wouldn’t immediately look down their shirt, and Sap for Shelly. Let’s all have a moment of silence and picture PunzOP being blown up by a piece of cake.
anyways. Jumanji AUs my beloved

Read the full article

Quote
Most of the errors of philosophers have arisen from considering the human being in a point of view too detailed and circumscribed. He is not a moral, and an intellectual,—but also, and pre-eminently, an imaginative being. His own mind is his law; his own mind is all things to him. If we would arrive at any knowledge which should be serviceable from the practical conclusions to which it leads, we ought to consider the mind of man and the universe as the great whole on which to exercise our speculations. Here, above all, verbal disputes ought to be laid aside, though this has long been their chosen field of battle. It imports little to inquire whether thought be distinct from the objects of thought. The use of the words external and internal, as applied to the establishment of this distinction, has been the symbol and the source of much dispute. This is merely an affair of words, and as the dispute deserves, to say, that when speaking of the objects of thought, we indeed only describe one of the forms of thought—or that, speaking of thought, we only apprehend one of the operations of the universal system of beings.

Where is the best place to start for AT comics? (Coming from someone who really loves the show but never read any of the comics)
Fair word of warning - the comics tend to depart from Finn and Jake a lot. They’re usually involved, but almost never the focus. The comics try to take advantage of AT’s expansive cast, who dont have much time to themselves in the TV show. The comics also have a lot of OCs.
Issues #1 to #35 (I believe volumes #1 to #7) of the original “Adventure Time” run - by Ryan North, Braden Lamb, and Shelli Paroline - are considered at large to be the best experience of the comics. These issues also have a self-contained continuity that diverges from the TV show at some point in season 3, but does reference some events that happened in later eps of the show, like Flame Princess appearing. The volume I was discussing was #7, which is awesome.
This continuity is referenced in the other mainline comics later, but issues #36 and onwards are generally considered to be a downgrade, in art and writing. I really, really don’t like the art style. It’s not comic book at all. Way too clean and “on-model”, without realising that AT constantly goes off-model for the purpose of better expressions.
If you want a more focused experience, try the graphic novels. However, of the ones I’ve read, I’m not really that big on any of them. I love “Thunder Road”, but it’s one of the last graphic novels ever released - right when the show was about to end. The ones that came out before all have a bunch of continuity and characterisation issues. They also have the same problem with the art as the later AT comics, which makes sense since half of them are done by the same artist!
I read “Seeing Red”, which is a DECENT Marceline graphic novel. I also read “Bitter Sweets”, which is unfortunately a bad PB novel. I liked the Flame Princess novel “Playing with Fire”, and “Pixel Princesses”, which stars a bunch of C-lister princesses. Bear in mind - none of the graphic novels have accurate descriptions for what happens in them. They’re all wrong. Why? I have no idea.
There are a bunch of miniseries for the comics, but I was never big on any of those either. I haven’t read many of them. “Fionna and Cake” is a bit aimless but it’s by Natasha Allegri! Drawn AND written. It’s referenced in the show, with Fionna using her sword from this comic in later episodes.    “Banana Guard Academy” could be canon - it was written by Kent Osborne himself. This one was fun, but it stars a bunch of C-listers.
I read Scream Queens when it came out but it... really hasn’t aged well. Marceline’s character is awful in those comics. (And PB dates a random guy......yeah, this released during season 4.)   The scream queens sequel series “Marceline: Lost In Space” is written by the same person and has similar issues, though they’re less pronounced, but I still don’t dig it. Art is nice mind you.
“Simon and Marcy” and “Season 11″ have gorgeous art, but like Lost in Space, they suffer from bad writing and storytelling. A shame since “Simon and Marcy” was written by Olivia herself! Her work on “Marcy’s Super Secret Scrapbook” is OUTSTANDING, so give that a read.   “Season 11″ does have a following, so there are a lot of people who liked it, even if I think it departs far too much from canon. It looks like it was written/drawn while the finale was still in concept stages, so the creator had no idea what the characters were dressed like or doing in the finale.
