Tim Drake, an octopus!mer, stole his place in Bruce’s pod only a short few lunar cycles after.
Jason is going to make him pay.

🦈 the boys are scheming
Ramble under cut!
Killer: based on the Black-tipped Reef Shark and a Thrasher Shark. His tail is long and whip like but you can’t appreciate it’s length bc it’s out of frame. He uses it to give his prey a concussion.
Horror: is a whale shark because he is a big softie, a gentle giant. I can only have so many octopi, and next to a shark of some kind that’s my second choice for him.
Dust: manta ray. My logic behind this choice works like this; hoodie = soft + covers you = blanket. Blanket + fish = stingray. Manta Rays don’t have stingers. But I gave Dust one anyway.
Dream/Molt: I was torn between a classic fish tail for him or something with tentacles. So I drew three forms for him. his designs are loosely inspired by cuttlefish and a specific killifish I’ve lost the name of.
Because Molt’s goop is tied to his role as a Guardian of Positivity of the multiverse, I was torn about whether not his mer-form should be goopy. I’m still indecisive about this.
If we went with his cuttlefish form, just like real cuttlefish he would be able change the color and texture of his body and tentacles. He can’t change the color of his bones or magic, of course.
This also one of the few AUs that you get to see the damage done to his ribcage. If only bc he doesn’t have three layers of fabric to hide it.
Regardless of the kind of mer-skele, Molt steers clear of deep open water. The scars across his ribs are a literal beacon in the dark, as his magic glows, and are just as likely to attract a predator as they are to attract curious small fish. As dusk falls, Molt hides himself away in caves and crevices in the reef or cliffs. He is a day time hunter by choice, but his brother still prefers to hunt at night.
Nightmare/Rem: i had two ideas for Rem, Octopus or Orca. Orca, because of the general importance that family plays in their social dynamic. And Octopus for classic fandom interpretation reasons.
If we are using the octopus type mer for Rem; like his brother, he can change the pattern and color of his body but not his bones or magic. Though he can change his color to almost any hue he wants, he prefers dark colors.
The dark markings on his bones may or may not be natural, and may or may not be caused by the same incident that nearly shattered his brother’s bones. :)

Hi! Same Anon that sent in the human Y/N with the baby Sirens Sun and Moon (I'm so glad you liked it! :)
You wrote that piece so wonderfully! And I adore all of your stories so much!
I just can't help but imagine that the Reclusive Writer Y/N might be more open to becoming a Siren, with the irony being that their babies would get the chance to teach them things!
Of course that first day as a Siren might not go over that well because the babies-now-teens failed to register Y/N never had a fluke before and the things they knew the basics from birth. Like stopping...(Crashed into a rock) Depth perception (Missed the air hole and hit the ice with their head) and hunting... (Got sucker punched by an octopus)
First night ends with Orca-writer unconscious on Eclipse from a concussion...
I loved it so much, ahh! I'm glad you enjoyed it! <3
The recluse isn't an easy human to persuade into becoming a siren. As much as Eclipse adores you and wants you in the water with your siren sons, you're a bit stubborn and set in your ways. (Hence the recluse part.) So, you would spend a long time telling Eclipse no whenever he says you could swim with him, Sun, and Moon. It would be an easy song to sing.
You keep resisting due more to their nature than any logic or will, and Eclipse tells you that one day you will say yet (and you laugh at that), but eventually, you notice how Sun and Moon keep swimming farther and farther out, exploring the sea. You enjoy the closeness with Eclipse and know you could still be closer if you simply accepted...
It's just a hard thing to change about yourself. You love your babies (and you love Eclipse, you love raising Sun and Moon with him), but trading your legs for a tail is a big decision. It's not one you take lightly.
You finally ask Sun and Moon one day if it would change anything if you become a siren, if they might see you differently than the human who raised them. (Eclipse says they're almost grown, ready to be adults.) Sun and Moon look at each other before agreeing that no, it wouldn't change anything. They love you. So long as you are here with them, they are happy.
That's the only answer you need before you turn to Eclipse and tell him that you'll let him sing his song and take you into the water. Sun and Moon are thrilled.
Of course, the first day is full of baby steps (wasn't it just yesterday you were filling a bathtub for the baby sirens, and now they're helping you to swim under the ice sheet to open waters?) Eclipse guides you most of the time. Sun and Moon are a bit too eager and restless to truly teach you, but they do hold tight to your arm to keep you upright when Eclipse has to leave your side for a moment, and they sing and trill such joyous sounds because now, there's no reason to ever be apart from each other. You're with your family forevermore.

New Recruit
Orca!GN Yuu x Octotrio
Tumblr media
The ocean is a dangerous place. There is no telling what could be just below the surface. The most beautiful tend to be the most deadly.
The new student was from the far north and had migrated to warmer tides. Yuu wrapped themselves in thick pale fur coats that outlined the choker that kept their form in check. They could only attend NRC properly with their size shrunken. Yuu's species in human form was still well other 12 feet so the choker was necessary. It wasn't given by the headmaster however, it was a from their very own headwarden.
Yuu had heard of someone who could help them look less like a whale among guppies. Sticking out like a sore thumb wasn't comfortable for someone used to being small compared to the rest of their pod.
Azul made a deal they couldn't refuse as they offered a place working at the lounge in exchange for the collar. Perhaps it was naivety that made them agree. So the parka was traded for the silvery colors of the Monstro Lounge.
They fit the lounge quite well. Yuu had a wide toothy smile that wasn't unlike the twins. But unlike the eels, their eyes were a calming coal-black color.
Azul has a new worker. One he was very proud of because they found him not the other way around.
They were very endearing to the customers who found them cute or entertaining. Softly cooing to them, balancing dishes, and performing shows for customers.
They were very affectionate with the twins when the lounge was empty. Nuzzling them gently only to turn on them and using their teeth to nip them. The tweels gave no sign of hating it, in fact, they loved it.
Azul's new worker was his most prized position and was stationed at his side during deals. At first, it was a mystery why but after someone was foolish enough to cross Azul the truth was revealed.
The student was dragged deep into the ocean only to be tossed out with a swing of a powerful tail. He was batted around like a cat toy as the orca played its favorite game. The ocra dragged the student through the rushing water until their victim was exhausted before leaving their victim at the shore.
People forget that the orca is one of the most dangerous predators in the ocean. The half-eaten shark carcasses they share for lunch were a sign. Most would stare when they ripped their food apart to share with their friends.
Floyd enjoyed the view when Yuu put him on their shoulder like he was kidnapped by a kaiju. He also would use their mer form as a slide when above water. His own personal playground.
Jade found Yuu's "gifts" of dead animals flattering. He learned that orca are the natural predators of moose. The moose was missing a large chunk of its belly though.
Most also wonder how Azul felt safe around a beast like that. The truth was that the octopus was too wrapped up in the beauty of his find.
Their mer form was too distracting. The black and white pattern to their soft matching streaked hair. Azul never felt safer when all three of them can rest curled up in surrounded by the hold of their whale friend.
During the winter the orca would build igloos and bury their hunt in snow to eat later. Yuu's more southern water friends couldn't take the cold. Yuu would still try to share their love for snowy days and drink hot chocolate (their new favorite drink)

What kinds of merpeople the Termina Contestants would be
(already shared these thoughts on twitter, might as well share them here too)
Pav's a lionfish because they're invasive, they move their spines in a way that's similar to peacocking, and they have venomous stings.
Tumblr media
Marcoh's a mantis shrimp because they punch the shit out of their prey. Simple answer.
Tumblr media
Daan's a moon jellyfish because of Blank Soul, how they're the most common jellyfish for others to pluck out of the wild for a pet (but often kill them due to them needing specific tanks), and... moon and all... :3
He'd also be really cute as a jellyfish. I'm biased.
Tumblr media
Abella's a giant pacific octopus because they're incredibly smart and strong. Also the red reminds me of her hair and it'd be fun to imagine her using all her octopus arms to tinker with stuff.
Tumblr media
Olivia's a leafy seadragon because of how they blend themselves into the plant life they make their homes. Mermaid Olivia wouldn't be able to swim strongly but I like to think of her grabbing onto plants to help move herself around in kelp forests. :D
Tumblr media
Levi's a spotted garden eel because they live in these little sand holes (trenches :3c) and are rather shy. They can however get used to certain presences such as people in aquariums. I recommend looking at the Sumida Aquarium story.
Tumblr media
O'saa is a yellow boxfish because yes yes yellow mage, but these fish also can release deadly neurotoxins into the water which is basically hurting if you think about it.
Tumblr media
Samarie is a gulper/pelican eel because I was obligated to make her a deep sea fish and it reminds me of Dysmorphia. Also she'd be a cute eel mermaid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tanaka is an oarfish due to them being known for being found dead or dying in shallower waters before earthquakes or tsunamis. Literally the opening kill as a fish. So sorry Tanaka lol.
Tumblr media
August is an Orca because of their hunting tactics being so brutal and said hunting tactics being passed from parents to children in a pod, making different pods having different tactics and cultures. Like how Rag's influence can be seen in August.
Tumblr media
Karin is an orange-lined triggerfish because of how territorial and aggressive they are despite their appearance. They often catch new salt water tank owners off guard by how willing they are to throw down.
Tumblr media
Caligura is a goblin shark because it's a deep sea fish that feasts upon bottomfeeders. I also refused to let Caligura be a fish that even I could find cute. :3
Tumblr media
Marina is a clownfish because the anemones are kind of like a warding sigil and she's a silly billy among the horrors at times. :3 They are also one of the tropical fish to be able to change from male to female. They are also my favorite childhood fish. Someone had to be one.
Tumblr media
And finally, Henryk is a blue angel because despite how they look, they will poison the shit out of you and it will be painful and suck so much. Not worth touching.

Flared Fins Mer AU Lore Dump
You can find the fic on tumblr and on AO3
Character Breakdowns:
Wind: 8 (Pup) - Tropical Mer
Adult coloring will be Orange with light blue splotches, like a koi fish’s pattern
Fun fact: He and Warriors are, in fact, very distantly related.
Hyrule: 13/14 (Juvenile) - Octopus Mer
Adult coloring: Green with golden freckles all over him
Fun fact: His healing magic is not as strong in this fic, or at least not as developed. Most of his magic
Wild: 15/16 (Juvenile) - Deepsea Mer - Adult coloring: Dark blue with teal lines. The markings on one of his arms are strangely more of a green color, for some reason
Fun facts: His fins are bioluminescent (and his markings as well, when he gets older.) He has giant fins that are good for threat displays but are very delicate. He’s a better fighter then Hyrule, but being in more fights leads to him having a lot of torn fins. Due to being a deepsea Mer, who would naturally have less opportunities to eat, he metabolizes his food well and doesn’t need to feed as often.
Four: 16 (Juvenile)  - Tropical Mer (Based off a beta fish)
Adult coloring: On one side is green fading to red on the fins, the other is blue fading to purple. As a juvenile, he only has the split green and blue
Fun fact: Four absorbed his twin in the egg, which is why his colors are split down the middle. He is the most territorial in the pod. When he and Wild get to know each other, they like to flare their fins at each other to show off and get rid of territorial aggression. Four bites
Legend: 19 (Almost an adult) - Tropical Mer (Based off a Sea bunny, which is a kind of sea slug)
Adult coloring: Light Pink with red markings
Fun facts: He is courting Ravio (A purple sea bunny.) His tail ring functions the same as his pegasus boots, which is why he could catch Hyrule
Sky: 21 (Adult) - Tropical Mer (Based off the flying fish)
Coloring: Red with silver fins and small yellow marks
Fun facts: He is courting Sun. He has a giant pet Grouper called Crimson. (Sky: Crimson is friend, not food!) Crimson is nine feet long and can pull him along faster than most mers can swim. (Groupers really can get that big. They probably aren’t really that fast though.)
Twilight: 23-25 (Adult) - Tropical/Freshwater hybrid
Coloring: Dark green with gray underbelly and thick black marks
Fun fact: His colors are so much duller because of his freshwater ancestry. He can survive in freshwater for a lot longer than others can. Sometimes goes and hunts in nearby rivers. He has an orca tooth necklace that can turn him into an orca. Yes, the Orca is called “Orcie.”
Warriors: 25-27 (Adult) - Tropical Mer
Coloring: Royal blue with orange marks on the ends of his fins. HE has a kind of iridescence to his scales that most Mer consider very pretty
Fun fact: Warriors has a twin, Linkle, who is currently very lost, wandering around in deep sea Mer territory.
Time: Very old (Adult) - Tropical Mer
Coloring: White/silver with thin red and blue line markings
Fun fact: He is mates with Malon, who is a deepsea Mer. Malon prefers to live in the deep, but they visit each other often. Yes, it is weird that a deepsea Mer would take a permanent mate but Malon does what she wants. She thinks it’s very funny that her husband adopted so many kids, and dots on them when she visits.
Worldbuilding:
Very young Mer are called fry. They are a lot more competent than human babies, being able to swim right after hatching, but during the first year of their life, they run mainly on their fish instincts. Fry are not considered super valuable to Mer, because Mer may have up to 20 fry from one clutch of eggs. Very few of survive the fry stage. Often a pod will choose the best looking/biggest fry and focus their energy on them, leaving the others to fend for themselves. (They won’t be chased away or killed, and if one does make it to puphood by themselves, all the better. But smaller pods can’t afford to feed 20 new mouths at once when all of them won’t survive.)
Those that reach a year old are called pups, at which point they shake off the more intense instincts, and become a little more reliant on their guardians. At 12-14 years old, they become juveniles. They have a huge growth spurt, and they turn from their dull pup colors to their main adult colors. Pup colors are usually either neutrals (other than white) or a very desaturated version of their adult colors. They are considered adults at around 20, around which time they gain their makings. They stop aging at around 30 years old, but keep getting bigger.
Tropical Mer stay in their birth pods unless they get a mate and decide to go to their mate’s pod, or decide to try to start their own pods. There are exceptions though, where juveniles/new adults will leave their pod because they don't fit in well.
Mer “Species” are more vague categories. There are tropical, deepsea, fresh water, octopus, etc. Most of them can still interbreed with only a little difficulty, (as long as they can get over their different social practices) so they’re not really distinct species. (Thought sometimes interbreeding can be difficult to achieve, and sometimes those children turn out sterile, like Mules are)
Tropical Mer are territorial, but they do still interact with neighboring Pods and trade at designated market areas. They aren’t isolated. Deepsea Mer are solitary, and Octopus Mer are solitary/only share territory with mates. If you are part of a social species but do not have a pod, you are considered a loner.
For one reason or another, Time ended up taking each of the boys under his fin, so to speak. Four was abandoned by his birth Pod because of his strange colors when he became a juvenile. Twilight went exploring up a river where his Tropical Mer mother could not follow, and couldn’t find her again when he came back. Sky fell asleep as a pup and got left behind when his pod moved on. Due to being twins, Warriors and Linkle were small coming out of the egg, and their pods decided to focus more on their other fry. Warriors never really integrated himself into the pod after that and left early. Things like that.
Mer can’t breathe air. A typical adult Mer can hold their breath comfortably for about 30 minutes though, so they still like to sunbathe on beaches if they can. They have gills on their neck and sides of their chest. Water flows into the neck gills and out the chest gills. The mouth is just for vocalizations and eating. As long as their necks are in the water, they can stick their heads out of the water as long as they want. They have bad eyesight above the waves.
Mer have their own language that needs to be taught to children, but they also have more internal vocalization that does not need to be taught. These vocalizations can get across more specific messages than just emotions, but the meanings aren’t as advanced as language. If you spend a lot of time around a Mer, you will be able to pick up on some of their vocalizations’ more subtle meanings, like discerning “hello” from “good morning/evening/etc.”
Mer are mostly carnivores, and they obviously do not cook their food. They do not scavenge unless they are desperate, preferring to hunt for themselves. Sometimes they eat plants like kelp for variety, but that’s not essential. Mollusk type shellfish (Clams, oysters, ect) are good snacks but aren’t really filling.
Mer that are social sleep cuddled together and all intertwined, to keep themselves from drifting apart while they're asleep. (Less of a fear when sleeping in a cave, but in the open ocean? Many pods have been permanently split on accident because of currents moving them three miles apart in the night)
Hylians exist in this au and they know that Mer exist, but they don't interact much. There’s a language barrier, and Hylians can’t make the right sounds for Mer language and vice versa. There have been exceptions, where one species’ sign language is taught to a member of the other, but this isn’t common. Hylians are at the same level of development as in the LOZ games. They do not have modern science, etc

"There are many perks to marine biology"
I really enjoy your headcanons of specific sea creatures as merpeople! The little details and facts just make them so much more interesting! My current favorite is the vampire squid!
If your time is free and you are willing, would you mind perhaps Octavinelle with a box jelly fish or orca? Obviously it's your choice, but these specific two are just very interesting to me.
Since I had a few other jelly asks, ima go for the orca. also kinda struggled to make these very long due to the Orca mer being a bit more on the mean side.
a bit mean but incredibly smart. The wolves of the sea in how they work best in packs.
Description
you were a large mer, with black skin and white patches along your large strong body. your large body and pack working to hunt down larger prey, from seals to even some fishing boats. You loved being with your pack and whenever you were with them you loved to play with the smaller creatures around you. From messing with other dolphin mers to taunting smaller prey mers and watching them hide away.
When you got your legs you were still incredibly strong and liked to push others around. You were a staggering 7 feet tall and had Vitiligo patches that resembled your black and white skin from your merform. If anyone tried to make fun of you for your spots though they would be beaten senseless. You made quite the reputation for yourself in savanaclaw and with others. You were incredibly strong and smart, very few stood up against you.
Octavinelle
Azul: He HATED you, you reminded him of other mers that picked on him growing up. It didn't help that when he did try to con hire you, you started to tease and mock him. So with the near bullying, he set out a way to get some blackmail on you and get you to work for him otherwise risk expulsion. You both had quite the rivalry. When he overblotted you were somewhat taught the error of your own ways too, just seeing how your action affected others kinda was like a slap to the face, you didn't change much but you did ease up on the bullying. You two were very awkward around each other but eventually became good acquaintances.
Jade: Thought you were fairly easy prey to get into the lounge as a stronger worker. A bit miffed at how angry and physically violent you became. Enjoyed finding blackmail on you for Azul and liked watching you squirm as you were cornered into working for the lounge. Found even greater joy in seeing you struggle under the work he put you through. Even snuck in some experimental mushroom dishes for you to try, you'll probably be fine~ Liked to watch what made you tick and laughed with Floyd at how you and azul struggled to get along after the overblot incident. Kept you at an arm's length and as a work acquaintance, wich was more than fine by you.
Floyd: Called you Orca. Teased and poked at your unique spots. he got a good slap to the face and laughed at you and that made you angrier. He liked poking fun at you since you would get so angry with him. You were very fun to play with and you didn't go easy on him so he wasn't easy on you either. Crazy enough you both started to have fun during these games and started messing with others too, it was like you were back with one of your pack buddies! You both were now the scariest people in the school so congrats I guess? messed with you when you were both working and laughed at you and Azul's rivalry turned awkward friendship. Still likes to drag you around to play with him and mess with some rude fishies.
Realized I forgot about merform stuff, they are all fairly impressed with your size and strength. jade liked to poke and prod at you. Floyd liked when you launched him or played just as violently with him, obviously you would both stop if there was any blood though. Azul stayed away from you as you teased him with the tweels about how you enjoyed octopus.

As I'm a bit bored, I'm gonna assign a sea animal to each fear:
Eye: Barreleye fish (Have green eyes visible from their transparent head that they use to detect camouflaged prey from otherwise unseen depths. Its eyes always lock onto its prey no matter where it faces. Alternatively, just about every single reef fish with eyespots count)
Lonely: 52-Hertz whale (Trying to assign entire species to fears instead of just one case, but I can't just pass this one)
Vast: Blue whale (Don't think I need to explain this one)
Buried: Bobbit worm (Worm that hunts prey by dragging them deep into its underground burrow. A real life version of the Dune worms)
Dark: Stoplight loosejaw (A sea bogeyman; its prey can't see it, but it's adapted to be able to see and follow them in the dark. Plus it's a deep sea fish)
Stranger: Mimic octopus (I could put the anglerfish here, but there's an animal named after its ability to partially mimic the coloration and movements of other animals so yeah)
Spiral: Basket starfish (Seriously, just look at this thing. It's like Gertrude used a starfish instead of Michael to stop the Great Twisting)
Slaughter: Tiger shark (A toss up between this and the humboldt squid, but I remember that tiger sharks eat and attack just about anything they can get their hands (fins?) on)
Hunt: Orca (They strategize hunting tactics in groups, know how to use bait, hunt sharks by turning their own biology against them, and even breach themselves just to get an extra bite. That's how good they are as hunters)
Flesh: Pyura chilensis (People it this thing. Why the fuck does it look so meaty?)
End: Boneworm (Eat the bones of dead whales, fully ending the existence of something as not even their bones remain)
Extinction: Jellyfish (If the ocean fully acidifies yet is still livable, they'd possibly be the only sea animal alive. We did this, we ruined the ocean's biodiversity)
Desolation: Mantis shrimp (Tbh I'm not so sure what else to put here, but they punch so hard that the area around the temporarily heats up to be as hot as the sun's surface and can break about anything. They're also called thumbsplitters by some people because of how painful a punch from them is)
Corruption: Lionfish (Venomous fishes that appear in just about every coral reef around the world as invasive species, assimilating themselves into places that they shouldn't be as if they're naturally part of it)
Web: Cuttlefish (Look at this one using hypnosis to disarm a crab)

Types of Merfolk
Tumblr media
Summary: The obey me boys as types of mermaids.
Tumblr media
1. Lucifer: Lionfish Mermaid
Lucifer, the eldest of the demon brothers, is often depicted as a lionfish mermaid due to his powerful and commanding presence. His striking appearance and sharp wit are akin to the lionfish's venomous spines, making him both alluring and dangerous.
2. Mammon: Shark Mermaid
Mammon, the second-eldest of the demon brothers, is often seen as a shark mermaid. Known for his greed and love of wealth, Mammon is like a shark who constantly needs to hunt for his next treasure. His loyalty to his brothers, however, makes him a valuable member of their group.
3. Leviathan: Eel Mermaid
Leviathan, the third-eldest of the demon brothers, is often depicted as an eel mermaid due to his slender build and love of water. Eel mermaids are known for their ability to move quickly and stealthily through the water, much like Leviathan does in his virtual world. His introverted personality and love of anime also make him an ideal fit for this aquatic creature.
4. Satan: Octopus Mermaid
Satan, the fourth-eldest of the demon brothers, is often seen as an octopus mermaid due to his intelligence and love of books. Octopuses are known for their problem-solving abilities and their ability to adapt to their environment, much like Satan's quick thinking and adaptability. His love of literature and curiosity also make him an ideal fit for this aquatic creature.
5. Asmodeus: Jellyfish Mermaid
Asmodeus, the fifth-eldest of the demon brothers, is often depicted as a jellyfish mermaid due to his flamboyant personality and love of attention. Jellyfish are known for their vibrant colors and eye-catching appearance, much like Asmodeus's love of fashion and beauty. His seductive personality and charm also make him an ideal fit for this aquatic creature.
6. Beelzebub: Orca Mermaid
Beelzebub, the sixth-eldest of the demon brothers, is often seen as an orca mermaid due to his muscular build and love of food. Orcas are known for their impressive strength and agility, much like Beelzebub's love of sports and physical activity. His kind-hearted nature and loyalty to his brothers also make him an ideal fit for this aquatic creature.
7. Belphegor: Anglerfish Mermaid
Belphegor, the youngest of the demon brothers, is often depicted as an anglerfish mermaid due to his love of sleep and his tendency to hide away in the shadows. Anglerfish are known for their ability to lure in prey with their bioluminescent light, much like Belphegor's love of napping and his mischievous nature. His loyalty to his brothers and his ability to adapt to any situation also make him an ideal fit for this aquatic creature.

Mermay still :) how about a fic where Alec is a orca mer and Magnus is a megaladon? In this au, your "size" is determined by what species you are, so a dolphin mer would be about the size of an average human, whereas orca would be twice the size of a dolphin mer. Which means Alec, who is used to being on of the biggest mer around, is suddenly DWARFED by Magnus.
For plot, I was thinking maybe Alec's pod had set up in a new territory, only to find out Magnus had territory nearby. They are obviously afraid of him for being a muc bigger and deadlier predator than them, Magnus isn't super thrilled with the pod being nearby. Until one day when he's near the borders of there territory terrorizing them with his presence, he meets Alec, who was patrolling today and decided to go ask Magnus if he needed something because Magnus sets off allll his prey instincts and he's both not used to that, and kind of into it and it freaks him out.
every single week you do this to me. i also got requests to add more to your last prompt (which i'm getting to but like, i have to do some research first). not that i'm complaining, to be clear. i am wallowing, not complaining.
did i obsessively write this while making breakfast because @saeths got super excited about it? yes lol

Alec stares with cold disdain at the dolphin mer who tried and failed to woo him. As much as his parents resent his refusal to take a mate, they also can’t push the issue. Alec is the only reason they were able to move their pod when mundane expansion and pollution intruded too far into their past territories.
That doesn’t mean, sadly, that they stop encouraging others to pursue him.
Most of the pod are dolphins and narwhals and while many have powerful tails and fins and some even know how to use their horns, they’re small. Which means that Alec is the only one of the pod who can take on their larger enemies. Those whose blood mingles more with squid and octopus.
Alec is exhausted from the long journey of finding a new territory and he’s only barely allowed himself to finally rest
“Alec—” Izzy says, and her voice is soft with fear, as if she’s afraid the current will take her voice to a predator. He’s never seen her so frightened.
“What is it?” He asks, trying to work his gills faster so he can wake up more quickly. “Did the scouting parties find something?”
“Our scouts made a mistake—” her lower lip trembles and a pearl slides down her cheek. “Alec we’re not in his territory, but we’re so close. He hasn’t done anything, but we can’t move again so soon Alec, the clave doesn’t know what to do.”
“Izzy you’re not making sense.”
“He’s a megalodon mer, Alec. He’s at least twice as big as you.”
Alec swallows, because he’s the biggest in his pod by a lot. The only way other mer can take him is if they swarm him and even that is hard with how powerful his tail is.
Alec shudders at the thought of an enemy even bigger than himself, because he’s never seen or met one.
“I’ll go.” Alec offers and then swallows hard at the gleam in Aline and Helen’s eyes. He’s never been sent to offer a tribute before except as a guard and it will be odd, being the one dressed to impress.
Magnus knows exactly what kind of mer has taken off the small open territory that Magnus has never bothered to claim. It’s an almost neutral route that is often taken by those he doesn’t care to waste time on.
However, the fact that he’s left it open doesn’t mean he’ll allow just anyone to live so close to him. Especially not when they’re annoying, chirpy little dolphin and dancing narwhals who flinch at his shadow and scream at his teeth.
The water reeks of fear and it’s feeding Magnus’ hunger, making it grow quickly until he’s ravenous and hunting only two days after he last feed.
He gluts himself on fish and small whales and then moves to where a small current will help him clean his hair and nails of the worst of the gore.
If it happens to also be on the border of the new pod’s territory and his own, where they can see him dipping his fingers casually into a current that could rip off any of their own limbs and lets the scent of blood fill the water.
Well, it’s still Magnus’ home.
If they’re intimidated, they can leave.
That’s his opinion for the first two days at least, until he finds a very clear tribute post near to his border and the pods but without actually crossing into his own. It shows a healthy dose of wariness and fear, though it’s a bit disappointing. Magnus thought he might actually get a fight or two before they submitted to his rule.
He leaves an agreement, takes the meager offering and then crushes it, leaving the remains behind.
If they think Magnus is like any great white, easy to please with a little bit of groveling another nothing of impressive value, then he’ll send them back to wherever they fled.
“You don’t remember what sharks like as tributes?” Alec asks dryly, ready to slap Imogen into the cave wall and Jia gives him a nervous look.
“We grew lax—” Jia admits slowly, which is as good as acknowledging they just started relying on Alec as soon as he outgrew the rest of his pod.
“So, then I’ll wear what you want but I’ll pick what to take.” Alec retorts, because he’s not taking a megalodon twice his size sea grapes.
There are murmurs from the elders and Alec snorts, because the clave can either do it his way or they can try it out on their own and honestly, they’re all to scared to.
Alec isn’t taking kelp baskets or anything else to a treaty with a predator.
Instead, once he’s dressed, he takes a moment to see how he moves with all the decorations and accessories they put him in and then, when he’s used to it, he hunts.
It takes time and strategy to get the most impressive squid he can, rather than just the easiest. Alec can’t afford to offer insult instead of respect.
He gets the squid wrapped up in kelp to make it easier to transport and then sets out with it trailing behind him. He gets as close as he dares to without permission and then lingers on the edge of a current that would batter him but break others of his pod.
Alec doesn’t want any interruptions or pod members spying on such an important meeting, especially if the presence of others could set off such an intense predator.
Magnus scents freshly killed, delicious squid and he swims towards the scent. It’s too close to his territory line to be anything other than a gift, a taunt, or a very deadly mistake.
It’s a gift.
Magnus has never seen a mer dressed so prettily that wasn’t some kind of tribute. He’s also only seen a few orca mer and never any as big as the one drifting on the lines of the territory.
He has a squid nearly as big as he is and it’s tied with kelp, clearly an additional offering that he’s hunted himself.
“Oh—” Magnus croons, sharp teeth gnashing at the taste of awe and the scent of a predator recognizing another as he gets closer. “Where were they hiding you?”
The mer bristles, not surprised by his presence but there is something proud in the gleam of his eyes, “I wasn’t hiding.” His eyes are dark and watchful but as Magnus circles him, his tail sways with clear discomfort as he takes in the clear difference in their sizes.
Magnus’ little mer is used to being the biggest in a territory, that much is clear, and Magnus is sure the little orca has taken down many lesser sharks with ease.
“Oh no, of course not.” Magnus soothes and he moves his tail in an idle slap to the water behind him, smirking as the ripples he creates rock his little visitor. “You wouldn’t hide, not from me. The others though, they kept you away. I haven’t seen you and I’ve been watching.”
“I don’t like a lot of noise.” Is said quietly, “I sleep on the far side, in the deep caves. It’s further away from any territory lines and also our least defensible. It made sense that I’d rest there, keep alert.”
Which is perfect, because Magnus also dislikes the tedium and noise of mer pods.
“And you needed rest for so long?” Magnus asks, circling again and watching hungrily as the mer’s gills flutter.
“We uh, hit a jellyfish field when we got close.”
Magnus knows exactly what he’s talking about and he makes a deep, clicking noise that normally makes prey go still but has his mer swaying towards him. It’s easy for Magnus, but for regular mer, the field is a horror and tragedy waiting to happen. It’s more shocking that so many survived and are uninjured than anything else and Magnus realizes it’s because his tribute took the brunt of it.
Magnus gets closer, inspecting the skin under the layers of delicately woven pearls and shiny decorations. There are small, angry lines of silver across his mer’s skin and Magnus presses fingers to the nearest ones, earning himself a hitched breath.
“Your name?” Magnus asks, because he’s too impatient to wait any longer.
“Alec, Alexander by the old tongue.”
“Magnus Bane.” Because even though mer do not have pod names like humans, and Magnus has no pod, he is still renown.
He has a name because he has become a bane to all who cross him.
“Alexander,” Magnus says, and he reaches out to grip Alexander’s neck, just below his gills, so that his thumb teasingly caresses the sensitive membranes. It’s an incredibly intimate gesture and Alexander whines and goes still, staring at Magnus in shock.
“I accept the tribute.” Magnus tells him, “and in return for such an impressive mate, I will allow your former pod to remain. I will even
“Wha-?” Alexander starts to ask and then he nods, eyes wide and gills kissing the tip of Magnus’ thumb.
Magnus moves slowly, pressing his tail up against Alexander’s sleek, smooth one and Alexander goes instinctively still. Magnus skin is smooth against him, so long as he doesn’t try to move away.
“You’re worth far more than a small feeding ground, aren’t you Alexander?” Magnus has killed tributes trying to offer themselves to him before, but Alexander is the only one who has ever caught his eye.
Alec has a moment where he almost explains, and then he decides it really doesn’t matter.
Even if Magnus were willing to forgive the misunderstanding, he’s not going to be willing to let Alec’s pod stay without something of equal worth and now that Alec knows how much value Magnus sees in him, he finds he doesn’t really care.
Alec’s body is covered in scars and while he likes fighting, he’s tired of it being for the survival of other people. Especially when half the mer in his pod do stupid things, convinced of their own hubris because they expect Alec to come save them.
Magnus is three times his size, not the two Izzy predicted, and his hands could cover the entirety of Alec’s gills, but he’s being gentle in a way the pod stopped being long ago. For all that they covet Alec’s size and skills, even those in his family unit stopped being soft, as if Alec is always a weapon and protection both.
Magnus is treating him like he’s delicate kelp, like he’s something fierce and incredible but still precious and it makes Alec warmer than the sun on the surface ever has.
“Magnus—” he murmurs because words are lost to him and it’s all he can think of to say.
The massive, heavy tail against his own presses closer and Alec shifts, shivering when he can feel the promising bite of Magnus’ tail against his own. The scales of Magnus’ tail are larger than any shark he’s fought and if he moves wrong, he’ll be shredded.
Magnus merely chuckles and pulls him closer, so that the scales are smooth against him once more.
“As long as you stay close, you’ll be fine.” Magnus tells him, the hand not holding Alec’s throat and gills wrapping around his waist. Fingers play where his body melds from torso to tail and Alec gasps out a stream of bubbles at how intimate such a simple gesture can be.

Planet Earth 3: Ocean
Ah the ocean episode, the one I looked forward to the most. Did it live up to my expectations? Absolutely I'm an easily pleased person.
Again spoiler for the episode sorta???
The primary purpose of a nature documentary is to introduce the audience to wildlife and natural world they're unfamiliar with, and this episode gave us flying fish laying eggs, orcas hunting mobula rays, pearl octopus nursery and moments that only bbc can manage to capture(honestly how are they doing this???) The efforts and techniques of the film crew must be recognised here, many of the segments of this episode take place in open ocean, and are about behaviors that only last for perhaps a couple of minutes. The ocean episode brings us wonder and spectacles(and also reminded me a lot of blue planet 2 so I guess this review has a heavy nostalgia bias).
But besides the wonderment, what else did the episode give the audience? Perhaps hope so the audience can build a connection to these wilderness? Compared to the coast episode, this one is relatively weak in this part, humans for the most part are present as the polluters and exploiters of the ocean. Which makes it hard not to leave with a sense of misanthropy.
Another critique, this one more of a nick-pick. Reusing shots is common and very much acceptable in nature documentaries, but there are a couple of reused shots from other documentaries in this episode that last too long and don't connect very well.
But all in all, this is still amazing I love every second of it.
9/10, my boy glass squid made it to the big screen.

OVA Taro is a Tiger Shark with a flip switch from friendly to feral upon nightfall for hunting mode as tigers are nocturnal hunters. I refer to him in emoji ship tags as a shark even before. A Japanese friend at the time had made him a Great White but adored the idea of OVAta as a shark so changed him to a Tiger Shark. Favourite x Favourite~
This one is said jpn friends design that I had permission to draw. Their design included their fins being worn whilst I changed them to fuse their fins to their skin and gave them nails the same shape as their teeth; why OVA's looks alittle different to the others. TVA Taro to them was a Bottlenose Dolphin.↓↓↓
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was heavily into 33 (TaroTaro) at the time...I still love them but my brain is preoccupied by other pairs too much to draw them as religiously as I used to 😖
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
TVA Taro is a Common Dolphin, he is the most popular and the yellow ontop of the black and white makes him stand out amount other dolphin specials (like how he stands out among other students as well as a nod to all his golden accessories)
PB film Jona was a Pilot Whale/ False Killer whale (film was a piolet :D) TVA Jonathan is an orca/killer whale
The DIOs I had different plans for, TVA DIO never got one however OVA DIO was a giant octopus that could grab onto and fight the joestars with (as well as other things...)
The AU was beautiful though sucked at ocean backgrounds at the time...maybe I'll draw JotaJonaDIO as them soon~ Thank you for the suggestion ✨

Monsterverse!Ruby's outpost would be a facility situated near the location of the Mariana trench. Considering that Krakens in the Monsterverse would probably eat vegetation, meat, sealife and even the thermal nuclear energy that comes out of volcanic vents.
Her entire skin is also boiling hot to touch, probably a unique defence mechanism for Krakens.
It's also noted that there is a HUGE possibility that Kong's race feasted and hunted the Krakens for something from them or within them. Like maybe some magical properties or something.
This would be another reason why godzilla's race would go to war with the Kong's to protect the Krakens from facing near extinction.
It's also unclear what's beyond the thermal layer in the Mariana trench, where Ruby's own "lair" is.
Oh and what would Ruby's "Ultimate" form be? Burning Ruby or Freezing Ruby?
Also Kong also might not know what his people did to Ruby's race, only the war between Gojira's and Kong's race.
And again, let's hope nobody tries to use the orca on Ruby. It may have worked on Mothra but if were to be used on the kraken.... You can say goodbye to both of your life and afterlife because apparently Ruby goes into a frantic frenzied state.
Ruby has been theorised to be the most intelligent titan currently as she has been reported to try and communicate vocally.
Her first words was "Fish please!" And it melted Chelsea's heart at how cute she asked.
And I think we forgot about a godzilla/Zilla (1998) version of Ruby.
Sorry if this is very long, I like hyperfixating on stuff.
Oooooh! That's a neat idea though!
I can definitely see Kong's kind going after the krakens, maybe to skin them because their body is capable of being hard armor or something like that.
If she wasn't aware of it either, I could see Ruby being very curious of Kong. They're both very intelligent and Ruby might attempt a level of friendship with him. Kong would probably be more hesitant since the last 'Kraken' he dealt with was a real big jerkwad but he's able to at least recognize the one he dealt with isn't the same kind as Ruby's is.
What if Burning Ruby glows so intensely that it can literally blind an entire city or some poor unfortunate onlooking monster. It just straight up kills your retinas.
I feel like for the Orca it'd be more of a case that she recognizes it's not at all natural. Curiosity would bring her to listen to it but not really obey what's being said. She only listens to one alpha and that's Godzilla.
Oh man that is adorable. I can just imagine she's watching a giant shipment of fish being moved or whatever and instead of using sign language, she wants to attempt human speech. It's not all that good but it goes like, "F..f...fa...faa...fiii...fissh...fish. Pl...plll...ple..le...plea...please. Fish, please. Fish, please!"
Everyone is just completely floored when they heard the giant kraken mutter actual human words.
Hmmmm.
Maybe an octopus mutated as it consumed irradiated fish and the like before growing into the giant but shy Ruby. She's relatively harmless and tends to stay away from big cities, though she will get close sometimes if only because she's curious about all the lights and stuff. Was probably mistaken for eating a lot of sea life near a costal area before it's revealed to be another monster as the culprit. Otherwise she tends to stay by herself or hovering around Monster Island.
You're fine! I hyperfixate on stuff too, heh heh!! :D

Hi!! I would really love if you were up for this phrase! any ship would work for me!
❛ are you ever going to choose me ? ❜
—  ❛❛  //   𝚂𝙷𝙸𝙿𝙿𝙸𝙽𝙶  𝚃𝚁𝙾𝙿𝙴  𝚂𝙴𝚁𝙸𝙴𝚂  ://    𝙵𝙾𝚁𝙱𝙸𝙳𝙳𝙴𝙽  𝙻𝙾𝚅𝙴.        (  please  substitute  pronouns  as  needed.  )
Amarië had been so certain that she timed her request right. She knew that Aikanáro was supposed to be taken to Alqualondë for the summer month, as it had become customary in Findaráto's household that he sends his younger brother to Alqualondë for one month of summer, to be with their Atar and Amil. She was certain of this, and when she put her request to her betrothed that he go with her to Taniquetil for a month, Findaráto agreed, but with a caveat-- they take Aikanáro and his wetnurse Nemmirilë with them.
Amarië, who had been raised to rarely take back what she asked, had no choice but to allow the unexpected...imposition. So here they sit, in her royal carriage on the way to Taniquetil, and instead of basking in the privacy of a moment hard-won with her fiancé, she finds herself sitting across Nemmirilë, with a chatty Aikanáro on her lap, playing with toy seahorses and toy orcas.
"Wooooosh!" Aikanáro declares to himself as he wiggles around the big orca plush toy in his left hand. "The Great Lord Salmar comes forth! And the Seahorses Division scatter! Ai, ai, ai! Lord Ossë! Lord Ossë! Help us, help us! Lord Salmar comes, and he prevents us from hanging about the giant kelps!!!!! Ai, ai, ai!!!"
Nemmirilë giggles quietly as she gathers her charge's flaxen blonde curls and ties them into a ponytail. Beside Amarië, her betrothed Findaráto laughs that melodious laugh of his. He leans forward and gives his brother -- whom he calls Egg, for some reason -- a big wet smooch on each chubby cheek.
"Why is it your Lord Salmar is always an orca, Egg? Ai!!!! Does he not want to be a giant octopus sometime?" Findaráto coos at his baby brother. "No!" Aikanáro chirps. "Orcas are cool! Orcas-- orcas can eat anything, even, um, seals, and they hunt in packs! In packs, hanno, they're so intelligent and cool! Uwah!"
Amarië watches and listens to this exchange. Tis a very strange situation, this. Findaráto was not supposed to be raising his younger brother, but there had been a problem in Alqualondë -- something about Aikanáro being a baby yet when their youngest sibling, a sister, Nerwen, was born. Eldar usually spaced out their children conscientiously, in order to be able to focus on the rearing of one elfling at a time, but Nerwen and Aikanáro were so close in age. And Arafinwë and Eärwen had wanted a daughter so, so much, that when Nerwen was born, their third son they practically relegated to the sidelines. Findaráto explained this to her. That he often found Aikanáro in a state of neglect, always crying, the servants spoiling him terribly just to get him to be quiet. And he said he would not stand for it, and so brought his baby brother home with him to Tirion so he could raise him, himself.
She had no qualms about this initially. It was a very nice plus point to find that Findaráto was very adept in taking care of infants and young ones. He would make a good father for the children they would have in the future. But then, as the days went by, all of Findaráto's attention and affection were channeled more toward Aikanáro.
She complained not. She endured. And prayed to the Valar that perhaps Findaráto would realize one day that he is betrothed, that they will wed, and once they do, Aikanáro would have to be...well... Amarië wanted children of her own to raise.
They stop for the midday pause upon the road and her fiancé helps the footmen and carriage driver to set up half a camp and get a cookfire going. Nemmirilë and Aikanáro walk around, with the little elfling hopping about, chasing some fluttering butterflies.
Findaráto stretches luxuriously and kneads his own back. Amarië takes the chance to approach him, and she circles his waist with her hands, then kneads the sore spot for him with a firm touch.
"Ai, thank you~" Findaráto hums appreciatively, turning his summer blue eyes to her and smiling radiantly.
Amarië returns the smile. "Findaráto, I wanted to say..."
"Yes, dear?"
"How long are you.....expected to care for Aikanáro?" She asks, voice quiet, so only they may hear each other.
A mild frown creases Findaráto's brow, though his radiant smile remains on his face. "By which you. mean?"
"I mean that we are betrothed," Amarië says slowly. "And we will wed. We will establish our household, and..."
"Egg will stay with me as long as he likes, even until his Majority, or beyond, if he wants it."
She looks up a bit too fast. They regard each other, both sporting blue eyes in differing shades. Summer blue and ocean blue. Findaráto's smile remains.
"Are you ever going to choose me?" Amarië asks him, still in quiet. Her left hand bunches into a fist, clutching a handful of his tunic.
"Goodness, Amarië, you were chosen for me, is that not enough?" Findaráto says, and he pulls away from her, already turning away, his golden blonde hair swaying. He walks away, breaks into a jog toward the little brother he loves so much, and Amarië watches him go.
She exhales only slowly, and the first formed by her hand only clenches tighter.

Facts of the Day: 🐋Beluga Whales🐋
Tumblr media
Scientific Name: Delphinapterus leucas
Length: Up to 18 feet long
Weight: Up to 3,530 lbs
Lifespan: Up to 90 years
Reproduction: They mate in late winter or spring with a gestation period of 15 months. They give birth to one calf at a time, and then nurse the calf for two years. Due to this beluga whales breed every two to four years.
Diet: Fish, octopus, squid, crabs, shrimp, clams, snails, and sandworms.
Habitat: The Arctic Ocean, and it’s nearby surrounding waters in the Northern Hemisphere such as Alaska, Russia, Canada and Greenland.
Status: Endangered
Summary: Beluga Whales are highly social animals, nicknamed the “canaries of the ocean” for the variety of sounds they make to aid in echolocation for hunting prey. Every year, these whales will return to their birthplace to feed and reproduce, conglomerating in groups of several hundred whales during these seasons. While these whales do enjoy sticking in small groups outside of the breeding season, they seem to be able to move between pods, unlike Orcas which have strong ties with their maternal lead pods. Like with most whales, Beluga Whales are highly intelligent along with their social capabilities. They’re capable of swimming backwards, have an unfused vertebrae in their necks allowing them to turn their heads like humans, and have even been reported to mimic the sound of their human handler’s speech in captivity.

what’s your favorite animal and why?
Hmmm, so I don't exactly have a favorite animal, so much as I have a favorite animal per category.
Favorite common wild animal would be the fox, they're fluffy and cute, while also being very clever and cunning. There's a lot of cool mythology about them, and a lot of my favorite fictional characters are foxes or fox related.
Favorite domestic animal: Housecats. I like kitty cuddles and purrs, and I'm a natural cat person.
Favorite bird: Peregrine falcon. They're very adaptable, moving into city spaces. I dig their dive maneuver, and they help control pest populations.
Favorite exotic wild animal: Tiger, a lot of the same stuff as for housecats actually, plus they look really cool.
Favorite aquatic animal: Octopus, particularly the mimic octopus. They are way smarter than anyone gives them credit for. They can squeeze through incredibly small openings and are known for sneaking out of their own enclosure and into other tanks to eat food and then going back to their own tank. They're very curious and bold. They can learn and then teach skills to each other. They all have cool camouflage abilities, but the mimic octopus takes it a step further and can actually pass itself off as other types of fish.
Favorite smart animal: Orca, they're scary smart. A pod in Australia (I think) formed a hunting pact with a human whaling village. The pod would drive large whales they couldn't actually take down into the bay and keep them there, then alert the villagers to come get it. They would get tasty snacks, the tongue, and the village got the rest. They have a part of the brain devoted to empathy that humans don't. Honestly, I think they might be fully sentient.
I get kind of rambly sometimes.
