The other side of ADHD

So one thing I don't see people talk about as much is the other side of focus issues. Like, I kind of hate that it's even called Attention Deficit because I don't think it's fully accurate. It's more like, attention meter gone haywire.

The best way to describe it is like a roleplay video game stat. Imagine the average neurotypical person has focus values in the range of about 4-6 points. For me, at random, my stats will flick between like 2 and 8. Sometimes in the space of hours.

In real terms, this results in:

Hyperfocus where I can write a 3000 word essay in one sitting; no breaks, no moving

Revolving fixations, never lost just reignited when I remember them. What follows is days of intense obsession

Being actively early for everything because of waiting mode

In the right conditions, crazy fast comprehension and reaction speeds

Tuning into other people's conversations in crowded spaces

At times, hypersensivity. Especially when it comes to hearing and smell

Ability to remember really random events in almost photographic detail. Like, sometimes I will have an easier time remembering some really mundane conversation from 3 years ago verbatim than what i did literally that morning

Don't get me wrong, I still struggle a lot and the lacking focus is more common. The frustrating part is that I have no control over when I'm able to do these things (aside from hyperfocus, I can kind of induce that - maybe I'll make a post about that) so it's rarely actually useful.

But yeah, I feel like it's a less spoken about portion of ADHD, closest it gets to the 'superpower' thing honestly.

I'll also note that, I'm personally unsure, but it might be that this isn't applicable to inattentive presentation ADHD. Would be curious to hear from y'all. I'm combined presentation but to me it seems more like it comes from the hyper side.

my interpretation of the Eggdaddy and Metal SONic dynamic is based on the games first and foremost, with inspiration taken from other media's depictions of it that feel accurate and faithful enough for me to apply in my own stuff too

I also really like the part in IDW where Eggman figured that Metal was feeling overlooked and a bit jealous for wanting in on the action and encouraged him to feel this way. Eggman likes how it makes Metal act to please him, being delighted when he scolded Rough and Tumble for failing.

I'm taking a bit of inspiration from that for how I imagine he'd feel around Sage and others too whenever they get any action and duties over him and make it a bit competitive as a result, which I touched on more here

then taking inspiration from the actual games the most overall of course, this type of affection and praise is conditional from Eggman and he's much more often ranging from uncaring to cruel towards him in punishment, as shown in this segment of my video

he will punish him in various ways when he fails or betrays him, such as removing his voice chip, leaving him at the scene, or deactivating him, etc as some of these examples show. but he can bring him back whenever he sees him useful.

but then taking inspiration from the Sonic Official post too, Metal is shown to be reprogrammed to have the rebelliousness programmed out of him so he feels "unconditional love" for Eggman and seeks his "fatherly approval", which can keep him loyal regardless of treating him like he does in the games.

so before you can say "there he goes taking inspiration from comics again and game Eggman isn't as evil and cruel" or something, the actual game canon is where he's cruelest towards him and he's never as nice and praising or affectionate in it and it's what I'm basing my concept on most.

so I imagine the Archie example of him hugging Metal in glee in the context of his excitement to use his prized creation in his plans with Metal loyally and successfully helping him fuck shit up, is what could get that more positive reaction out of his game self too. it's a way for it to happen at all that feels like it would fit, while still keeping the most important game canon in mind.

ON THE AI ART THING

i see three main points people are making, which i think are fair: first the supposition that the products of people's labor are being used somewhere in the process of art generation in an unfairly profitable way; second the supposition that the products of the artists' labor are being stolen before they can sell it; third that the other two result in a chain-reaction down the line where nobody's an artist any more because neural networks are adjective-er than humans.

for what its worth the way AIs combine images is just not the way you think AIs combine images. machine learning is complicated. neural networks are complicated. read up on GANs; watch a few Two Minute Papers videos (like this one, which is particularly relevant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCf8OA4GPvI). the way they combine im its not forgery (AI are not perfectly replicating your piece and selling it as it is for their own value; at some point it might involve copying/"looking" at it), its not stealing (you still have your art with you), its not even Youtube Poop remixing. generally the hypest way to do neural networks right now is to take a collection of items the AI knows to contain similar concepts and creates an understanding of that shared concept; a good dataset will be big enough to understand all the full variations of that concept, or accurately deduce the rest of the variations, all through the natural inconsistenties that a bunch of pictures of the same thing might produce. an AI knows how to do an oil painting style because it probably knows quite well the actual qualities of an oil painting. it also knows what the sun looks like, how cloth drapes at different weights, how holes in the ceiling of a building might imply shafts of light illuminating on the floor, and other incredible stuff. beats me how it does that, and you likely won't get it either. but the point is the way people are talking about AI on here seems solely informed by imagination.

for unfair and stealing bit, there's something to be said about how certain online communities, websites, people, blogs. etc are naturally private due to obscurity while also being technically completely public; like caves hidden in valleys that take quite a bit of looking to get to and see. in the past we just assumed they would stay hidden: the art on this blog will only be seen by its followers, or people i link the blog to, surely; ill teach you the way to my little cave. unfortunately the internet has been filled with extremely informed and skilled valley-treading and cave-finding robots, and unless you have big ol' signs that say "DO NOT FIND THIS CAVE!" (i remember for forums you could stop scrapers from coming to your website, i think on tumblr there is something like a "do not show in search results" button too), or somehow otherwise avoid their path using strange internet tricks or complete luck, they will totally find your little cave and rummage through it. what i mean to say is this: your art is already part of the publicly available data, and you're in a tough spot to do anything about it. i have no solutions.

the objectionable part is not in this collection of references for analysis, nor in how the AI is usually interpreting what objects are what, but the misuse of the AI to produce things you don't like (which is part of the point i wanted to make in my first post, besides arguing for the artistic integrity of what the AI is doing with its sources). and i see how it seems unfair -- someone smarter and more knowledgeable about art, labor, intellectual property, and value could articulate this more -- that a customer of a neural network could so freely replicate someone else's work with the original stylist having nothing to show for it. it wouldn't be any better if a sufficiently skilled person was requested to draw original pieces in your style. so in that way this is less about AI and more an objection against the violation of someone's intellectual property, if that exists.

for the second point on losing artists, i understand the reasoning as following: nobody wants to be a starving artist, and to avoid that in capitalism one needs money, and if someone is dead set on being an artist (or for some reason can be nothing else) they must sell their art to make money. if no one is going to give them money for art, they will certainly be a starving artist, which we don't want. the conclusion here is, if we want artists (starving, at the very least), we should restrict anything else that makes art which might compete with the artist's. okay, that might work: we could stop having AI make art. but what if, despite our best efforts, we can't fully restrict such a thing? what if AIs are here to stay? more importantly, what if artists are actually already partnering with AI to make art, and you've just been none the wiser? What if you yourself could adapt to new technology and use it to better your own art? The improvement of this tech is, as far as anyone can tell, inevitable. Like any tool, it will be applied in obvious and creative ways. It will displace some people, it will be used by others, and further it will be ignored by the rest.

naturally we would think at least some artists could no longer be paid for what they currently do. if companies can afford a concept artist they likely could better afford a subscription to DALL-E. If their work is no better than AI and they cost more it seems clear they're out. but im simply not jumping to the conclusion that companies specifically will be replacing ALL artists with AI, since most trained artists are in fact better than AI, and come with the human factor. some companies will certainly try the switch to AI for the novelty of it, two or three might succeed, most will probably find out negotiating with an artist or two for long term projects is much easier than talking to the team of computer science geeks to see if the damn art-generating program will churn out something slightly more [quality], more palatable to today's changing tastes -- all that, IF "AI generated images" is even the zeitgeist in whatever hypothetical time period in the future this is happening. maybe by the time the tech is developed people will think handmade stuff is popular and companies will follow suit, with all their logos or whatever being painted on glass panes.

i mean, who are we even talking about, considering artists? the fandom artists definitely aren't disappearing because of neural networks. all those millionaire furry artists simply won't lose business because people are going to Midjourney and entering in "shirtless anthropomorphic tiger, [famous furry artist]-style". people who want oil paintings want some physical oil paintings and usually not a digitally-generated oil painting printed on canvas. people want a human intermediary for basically everything, and if you've ever worked retail with an older customer base you'd know that's true. id certainly prefer human-made art to neural networks if i was gonna spend money (and i apologize to our future robot overlords for such a statement).

so who is really completely losing out here? many artists are, quite frankly, not big enough to get fried. concept artists for triple-AAA shooters might take a hit, i imagine; its decently easy to generate generic cities and alien landscapes with AI. but frankly, artificial intelligence is a tool, and not a scooch-along robot replacing your cubicle in the office. you still need people who know about art, and artists willing to put in the work, for it to produce anything of commercial value. even if it gets so good that the CEO of a business can log on to ARTIFICIAL-INTELLIGENCE-WEBSITE.com and type into the text box "I wuld like to buy a compny logo for $50 please", im sure there will always be more status in having that "human touch" to your designs, and less status in those robo-packs of ugly slightly mismatched placeholders. besides, artists are already using AI to help create their products in the first place; i refer to that Two Minute Papers video again (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCf8OA4GPvI).

Edit: Considering Two Minute Papers, we do see that VFX artists and simulation scientists are trying to find ways to realistically simulate liquid, gases, fire, etc. with AI. This likely will have consequences for whatever hand-simulated stuff VFX artists have been doing.

your art is publicly available and you really don't have much control over what happens to it. unless little intranets for families and towns and cities and such become more popular, unless you start password protecting websites like forums used to do, your shits getting collected. its not a good reality and im definitely an advocate for internet privacy. for many artists the internet is unfortunately the only place they know how to get their stuff out there. its not a good situation for artists to begin with. the thing is, what's happening with modern AI art generation isn't... really that bad. unless some specific human wants to make it bad. if from this moment on we decide to push for legal-social-whatever punishments for not compensating the artists whom AI was trained on, okay, i guess. companies developing these AI probably have too much startup money anyway and most artists make far too little for the years of wrist pain. but i would say the customers requesting your art style or whatever are certainly at more moral fault, because it almost certainly wouldn't just pop out a given art style unless your prompt guided it to.

i will stand by the fact that the art of modern neural networks is more complicated, less hurtful, and way cooler than ripped off collage nonsense, and it will be exciting and scary to see where we go from an AI winning an art tournament -- for the moment you can be scared if you want, i guess, but if you didn't already lose your job to a guy utilizing a neural network then you're probably already safe. (and you might as well get on the train before you're left behind.)

My reactions to Evangelion episode 21: He was aware that he was still a child

If I must be completely candid, I've been putting off watching these last few episodes because I'm very frightened that something really awful will happen to my beloved Shinji and I really don't know how I'm going to bear it. I think I would be okay if he just turned out to be evil, but if he turns out to be good and sweet and dead, I don't know what I'm going to do.

Anyway, my stomach is churning and I'm about to start the episode.

Super solenoid (?) theory.

The spear!

I had to go back and watch it with subtitles. So the Longinus Spear just came from the dead sea and there's talk about a donor. A personality donor, maybe?

They put DNA into Adam. Is that why he's so fucked up looking?

Gates of Guf.

"It's wings are spreading. It's going towards the surface." This makes me feel like they did create the Angel that caused the Second Impact but that it might have been the first Eva rather than an Angel. They were talking about an anti-AT field.

Am I imagining things or is there new stuff in the video during the opening song? I just saw an Eva with biblically accurate golden wings.

"One last job". He's fucked.

"We have no intention of creating a new God". Hmm. That's even more sacriligeous than I expected. Gendo is certainly Tower of Babeling hard right now.

So is Seele a super computer like the Magi? I assumed it was an organization.

I was expecting Gendo but it was Yui.

If her last name is already Ikari, then... Are she and Gendo actually siblings? Or did he take her last name...?

Unit 1 is a god now.

Okay, Gendo did change his name. Because he's a criminal.

Okay, no. It looks like I was right and Seele is an organization. They're just talking through giant speakers, I guess?

God, Gendo is just the worst.

A child to care for at home. But if I'm mathing right it can't be Shinji who would be no more than a twinkle in his father's eye at this point. So Rei? Please consider I am not very good at math.

Oh, wait, actually, if it's after the second impact Shinji could be a baby.

Adam and Eva. How glaringly obvious it's been all along.

So ostensibly Seele is trying to prevent the third impact.

Baby Shinji. I'm a puddle on the floor. He's patting his mom's face.

Oh, it's Shinji as a little guy!

Shinji was there on the day Yui died. Or, rather, disappeared and was presumed dead, it sounds like.

Gendo the godmaker. So is he trying to make humans gods?

Gendo and Ritsuko's mom, huh? Were they having an affair?

So Gendo shows up with Rei, claims she's a friend's daughter, but she reminds Mom Ritsuko of Yui, so... Clone Rei or kidnapped child given Yui's personality?

Rei lol.

Did she kill the (first?) Rei??

Did Dr Akagi kill herself?

Did Misato kill Kaji?

I can't tell. I just know she got her gun back and then he seems to have been shot. Maybe it was Ritsuko, though.

Shinji running away again.

"I was just a child."

In Conclusion

Yeah, idk. Just waiting for everything to come together.

Seeing Gendo's past was interesting. He's such a garbage bag.

Thinking about Yui and what happened to her. It was on the day of her big experiment and she believed it was going to show Shinji hope for a better future. I also believe that's what he was wearing when we saw the quick flashback of him when he realized that he had seen an Eva before and knew what they were. Maybe his mom developed Unit 1 and was dissolved inside it like he had been? Could explain its ability to act without the battery pack, perhaps?

How does this all end, though? Like, we're building up to answers but I'm having a hard time predicting what the climax will be. I assume Misato will discover something awful about the Angels, maybe Rei will try to protect Gendo and get hurt? Shinji is going to probably go through some horrific metaphysical experience. I don't know!

I'm going to watch one more episode and then it's bedtime.

Billy Butcher is a genuinely worse person than Homelander and this is plain to see when you actually read the comics.

Homelander actually feels disgusted with himself when he does bad things. And he only does them because he's been led to believe he was horrible without actually having done any of the shit he's blackmailed for in the photos and videos. Including what happened to Becky.

If it's not clear. It was Black Noir, a clone of Homelander, who put on his costume, did those terrible things and enjoyed them, and then took pictures and videos to frame Homelander. Noir was the one to rape Becky, but Homelander got the blame.

And the very few things we actually see Homelander do show us how much revulsion he feels from doing them, to the point where he throws up and has a visceral reaction, like he doesn't actually want to and isn't used to it. Asking himself "what have I done?".

That's far from a spoiler at this point, these comics have been out in full, for several years now. I'm not gonna pull punches or be dishonest about it like some people confessing weird out of context bullshit either.

In contrast.

Butcher kills all of his friends, excuse me. All of the people he used and lied to and made believe he was actually their friend, with no remorse or second thought. Or at least tries to.

Kimiko. Frenchie. MM. Even Vas (Love Sausage). All of them die by Billy's hands. For no other reason beyond.

"They're supes."

Despite the fact that this is after he discovered he was wrong about Homelander the whole fucking time.

Down to trying to kill MM's momma. Down to killing Janine's fucking mother in front of her so that she witnesses it. And then makes sure MM knows that for Billy, he "ain't got no mates".

Hughie is the only one to survive because after killing the others, Butcher threatens to kill Starlight and says he won't stop unless Hughie stops him.

There's no question here. Butcher was always the bigger monster. He just didn't have the power to be as bad as Homelander could be. Potentially.

Potentially. And that is a huge fucking key word.

Barring the fact that Homelander never actually met that potential or even wanted it. Noir was the actual monster, using Billy to confuse him into believing he had, so he would try. Just so the clone could swoop in kill him.

Imagine that.

And there are still people deranged enough to think there's any kind of contest on who's worse between Billy and Homelander?

Fuck's sake, this guy immediately kills a fucking premie baby instead of trying to pacify it because it's terrified out of its mind and has powers it can't control. With a lamp.

I love the show, I love the portrayals and the jobs done by the actors. I think it does a great job touching on the important topics and themes in the comics while connecting it to current events. I do hope it has a different ending. But one thing's clear.

While the characters are fundamentally the same at their cores. They made Billy softer and sweeter while they made Homelander harder and more ruthless in order to make the dynamic more mainstream and less controversial. Which is honestly a bit disappointing.

It also makes me a little worried because if they don't find a way to navigate that well, it may mean they've messed up the finish line before we could ever reach it. They could definitely go for something more comic accurate or even include Billy killing Ryan and just not caring anymore as per typical Butcher fashion, but given that they've already chickened out on some of the more intense stuff, I can't say it's high in the hopes factor.

And a happy ending doesn't exactly feel appropriate either.

But who knows, maybe the set up is there specifically to make everything hurt that much more in the end if or when Billy betrays everyone.

And this is coming from someone who is ecstatic to see Homelander go on a chaotic rampage of blood, death, and destruction. Bring it the fuck on you goddamn chaos cockteases.

But yeah, no. It's no contest. Billy is a far worse character than Homelander in the comics, and he has the potential to get a lot worse in the show. He's not there yet, but it's pretty clear he actively wants to be and it's grating him that he isn't yet.

Guess it'll be interesting to see if that comes to fruition or if there's even some crazy twist that shows us Homelander isn't as bad as people think.

TF2 Character Analysis: Scout

I should probably mention this in advance-some of this teeters on the verge of headcannon territory, sprinkling in some theories and probably going overboard when it comes to jumping to conclusions. I should also mention that I don’t know everything about the tf2 lore, some of my knowledge comes from fan content that my brain has stored as canon, and there’s only so many details from miscellaneous sources that my brain can accurately store-Plus I haven’t read all of the comics because my adhd brain gets bored easily.

“Grass Grows, birds fly, sun shines, and brother, I hurt people!”

Ok! So! Scout! Scout is the fastest of the 9 mercs and the first of the offensive trio on the class selection screen. He’s the only (?) class capable of double jumping-or triple jumping with the right weapon equipped-but has one of the lowest healthpoints.

Scout is the youngest of 8 brothers and is the weakest-the runt-of them all. A lot of the fandom has suggested the idea that all-or at least most of-the boys come from different fathers-Scout being the only one with Spy as a dad-and being several years apart-to the point where some were moving out when Scout was born. I’m not entirely sure if this is canon or not but it’s what I like to consider.

When you have 7 older and stronger brothers, fights aren’t exactly going to be easy. Scout had to learn how to be fast and unpredictable-since when you can get to fights BEFORE others, there’s no chance for someone stronger to actually get a hit in-meaning he could get his weaker but quicker hits in right away and at the very least weaken them for a proper fair fight. This is even assuming a fair fight would happen in these situations-even before Scout became-well-Scout-It’s pretty easy to imagine that these fights could be between anybody at anytime, anywhere, with any rules.

As much as we can say most of his meet the team videos is his ego talking-I actually genuinely believe he’s telling the truth when he says you’d be dead if you were from where he’s from. As a dumbass teenage boy who has stepped foot in a high school before I can tell you first hand that fights over stupid petty shit can get fucking brutal, especially when it comes to more rowdy annoying boys like Scout. If scout was someone who picked fights or ended up in fights frequently he’s going to know how to survive in chaotic, unpredictable situations like that. He may be physically weaker than others but he’s not weak if you get what I mean?

He does actually try his best and will genuinely try to use his brain when he needs to-even if his reading level is low to nonexistent. This is delving more into head canon territory but it’s not a far stretch to believe he at least subconsciously picked up how to trick people-taking after his dad in a way. He’s an idiot, yes, but he knows how to play his cards. For example, when to strike or when to at least try to hold back a bit-When to rush in or when to actually play his role as Scout and scout out what’s ahead. Another definitely less canon example from a role play with my friend and I-Scout taking his time and playing his cards right for elaborate pranks to piss off the other mercenaries. Hell he knew exactly what to say to get Spy on board with his request to get a date-even if it was at the expense of his own ego.

Another thing I’ve seen people overlook is the fact that he has some actual basic life skills-he can drive, although it’s a motorbike and we can assume it’s at least decent enough with Heavy’s lack of actual reaction to the drive itself-he’s just calmly sitting there. There’s also his fancy dating trivia he earned in Expiration Date. That shit literally helped save him and Miss Pauling from a bomb-

And if we want to go and dive into the shit show of chaos that is the Mann Co No More comic series-Scout literally meet God. I still don’t know if that was his ideal god or just-straight up God talking to him. I mean-it’s not far off considering Medic literally dealed with Devil-whiiiichhhh I will get to at another time-Slow Down Oliver this post is about Scout not the bloodthirsty man without a medical license/j

Scout never knew his dad-or hid the truth from himself for-all of his life really-It wasn’t until he genuinely died that he got a sliver of closure-which in reality was a lie from Spy.

It’s-very visible throughout the comic that this does effect Scout mentally in less than positive ways. Going a bit far out on a limb here but it wouldn’t surprise me if Scout’s ego was a coping mechanism-alongside his general stupidity and unreasonable genuine belief that he truly is just-that amazing. He gets defensive and aggressive anytime his dad is even briefly mentioned as anything other than dead and only seems positive about it when under the impression that his dad is indeed his hero-not to mention the fact that he was technically recovering from literally dying-which yeah no he’s not gunna be one hundred percent okay after-No ones going to take literally dying and walk it off without at least a little mental stability-

Unless your Medic and Sniper apparently. They’re a different breed ig. The support trio scares me /j

But my mention of his ego and narcissism being a coping mechanism isn’t me saying you can’t joke about it. I do all the time and honestly I doubt all of its a coping mechanism. He definitely is at least partially just an idiot who thinks he’s the best person on the planet. Only so much of *gestures to Scout’s everything HTTYD style* that can be a coping response. This is the dumbass teenage boy vibe 27 year old who drinks radioactive soda all day and runs around hitting people with a bat while calling them virgins. Use him as comic relief. Write him to be the biggest dumbass to ever dumbass. Make him an awkward romantic mess. Hell exaggerate everything to an over the top extreme manor for all I care-Tf2 is Tf2 and all of the idiots are batshit insane. What makes Tf2 fun is it’s lack of logic so go pop off and write Scout eating a car battery /ref

This took me. An hour and a half to write. And you’d think with that fact that this would be longer than it is but no I just get easily distracted by memes and find random dumb shit to obsess over for ages at a time-

This was a lot of fun to write tho and I hope I got my points across decently well-I have a rough order outline that I wrote my points in and intend on using it to do an analysis of each class. Some will definitely be longer than others as my opinions can get-a lil much for some of them *pushes the Support trio behind me* /j but overall it’s just me having fun and goofing off. Take all of this with a grain of sand if you want idc-I just hope this was at least a semi enjoyable read as I did put a decent amount of effort into making it

Meta for Face to Face Chapter 54

First off, thank to anyone who read this chapter and this long post. This chapter was one of the most self indulgant things I have ever written. XD So many concert memories went into it. I'll talk about some of them below. There are also links to the songs "performed in the chapter" as well as some videos of each band performing live. As I told my sister after I wrote the scenes at the beginning when the trio met Josh and Travis, writing dialogue for the real people felt like playing with dolls, but in the worst, most embarrassing possible way. (Don't worry, I actually got permission from everyone featured, but more about that at the end). So I watched a lot of videos and tried my best to make everything accurate and use actual quotes when I could.

Chaotic Resemblance- Travis and the rest of the guys are from Oklahoma if that helps with imagining his accent. It's not particularly unique but when I was writing him this chapter and trying to remember how he speaks, that twang is what my brain kept remembering. Travis and all the guys are super nice, awesome to talk to. And on the short list of irl people who know about my fic writing.

Two songs are mentioned in the chapter. First- "Virtual Reality"

And Second- "Riot Anthem". Live video here. The band played this song the first time I saw them and I remember that set vividly for how much fun this song was. It definitely pushed me to run back to the merch table and buy a cd.

Relent- The first song mentioned is "Ghost," of the famed T shirt which I have Danny buy and which I bought irl. XD

"Heavy" - (Video of this song at Uprise 2022). The words I have Miggy say before the song are based on his commentary on the lyric book for their album. "Rape. Sexual Manipulation. Sex Trafficking. The devasting emotions that come with it. This song is my wife’s story, and I'm honored to tell it. She’s been through so much. She has come out victorious, and now her story will help millions, breaking the silence around topics not talked about enough." Admittedly, much heavier (no pun intended) than the blurb in the fic. But when applying the song to Danny and his story, I needed to make some changes.

I have Heavy be a emotionally significant song for Danny in this chapter. When I was thinking about his reaction to each band and songs I wanted to feature, I realized that it made sense for that song to be the token "song you cry to". It just made sense, having previously said that he listened to the album a bunch of times and having him list Heavy as a favorite, that that song would have had an emotional impact. I really wish I had thought to put that fact in the text before now so that little character moment doesn't feel like it come from nowhere. But what are you gonna do? 🤷‍♀️

(A bit of religious discussion below)

Also, I have Danny talk to the band a little bit about what the song meant to him, something I've done and seen done with many bands before. The band offers to pray with him and though that has never happened personally with me with Relent (of the 4 bands here, they are actually the one I have seen the fewest times and know the least), I have had other Christian musicianaries (musicians who view their touring and performing as a ministry) offer to pray with me and I have accepted that offer. Not including that moment would have been a disservice, considering how much I love all these groups and respect what they stand for. But I decided to cut away from the actual scene to give a sense of privacy. It felt right for something often so tender.

GFM- Cries in GFM broken up. 😭 Seriously though, this band consisted of three sisters, who went they started we all teens. I realized after writing the chapter that for the time I am imaging for the story (just before they disbanded last year), calling the oldest two teens would be inaccurate; CJ and Maggie are both in their early twenties. But I decided to keep it since them all being teens would make the group cooler in the Phantom trio's eyes. And I should mention, they're not entirely out of the scene though; the basest and screamer, Maggie, still tours and makes music under her name, Magdalene Rose.

As for the songs featured- The one during sound check is "Give me a Sign"

S.M.I.L.E- (Live video) The song where Jack gets in the circle pit. XD Inspired by my dad getting in circle pit at metal shows. He's 53 now and broke his leg last year, messing up his knee pretty badly, so his moshing days are over. But as recently as Warped tour 2017, he was still doing it. I'm over here too clumsy and short to even think about it; just head banging is good enough for me, thanks. 🤣

And the last song- "I don't need your fantasy" A Sam Manson song if I've ever heard one. Also, this is the song with the famed cupcakes. (Sadly, I couldn't find a video of this on YouTube to demo 😥) I really wanted to write about the ridiculous fanatical joy that comes with having icing and cake thrown at you during a metal show. 🤣 Words can't really capture the experience but I tried.

The Protest- In the chapter, the trio meets Josh at the merch tables before the show. This is very reminiscent of when I met him actually. This was in 2016. My sister and I drove about 2 hrs for the show; they were playing with another band we knew of and we'd heard a few songs by The Protest on a local radio station. We arrived super early and went to the door of the tiny church they were playing in to beg to use the restroom before the doors opened. Josh came right up to us before we even got to the restroom. He introduced himself as Josh, asked our names, shook our hands, and said he was excited we were here tonight. And the whole time, I was thinking about needing to use toilet and didn't even realize who he was until the show started. XD The band was significantly less popular then but I know from going to a dozen plus shows since then, he (and the rest of the guys in the band) are like that with everyone. So I am being absolutly serious in the chapter; Josh Bramlett is one of the kindest, most genuine people I know.

The first song is "Paper Tiger." The sound goes out because of Shadow, during this song and the guitarist stales for time. His name is Adam, nickname Sarge, but I couldn't figure out how to put that in the text. The joke that he tells in the one his real life counterpart suggested when I asked him in March. I also based rest of the what he said during technical malfunctions (the joke about being voted out of the band) during their set when I saw them last October with Disciple.

The next song- "Welcome to the Freakshow" This is my favorite song of theirs to hear live. It's so much fun to head-bang/dance to! Also, Maddie films her son instead of the band, as my mom likes to do to me and my sister. 😝

This message in between the songs- This is word for word part of what Josh said during their set at Kingdom Come Festival 2022; I looked up the video (Message starts at 31:40) and recorded what he said word-for-word to be accurate to Josh and the guy's conviction and the heart behind what they do. It was really important to me that I was authentic there, since I love these guys and what they stand for so much.

And the last song- "Valor." When I was trying to pick which song to end on, I wanted a very specific feeling. I told my sister I was trying to describe that rare moment when you're singing your heart out and you met someone else's eyes and they're singing the same words with the same passion. There's a moment of connection and you know you both believe every single word. I asked what Protest song it should be and she said "Valor." So I went with it.

Guardians of the Children is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization comprised of motorcycle enthusiasts that use motorcycles as tools to help children who have overcome child abuse, ages 0-17, become strong, confident, and courageous again. Once a child has made an outcry of abuse and the criteria for our support is met, that child is “adopted” into our family as a Little Guardian. Members of G.O.C will escort the child to court, attend school and social events at the child’s request, provide protection and support, and sponsor “Little Guardian” private events, yearly. The goal of these events is to provide a safe space where the Little Guardians can have fun,socialize with others that have experienced similar trauma, and forget for a moment about the fear, doubt, and insecurity that was forced upon them at such a young age. Every child has all the power and strength within themselves, just like a motorcycle on the open road, and the biker behind it, we just encourage them to unleash it as we fight their demons together.

A few years I went to a show they hosted at a local park, featuring GFM and Chaotic Resemblance, hence the similarities to the concert here.

Gotta Rock ‘em all Tour - This is the name of the tour The Protest hosted in March this year, thought the line up was different from the one imagined here (In real life, Behold the Beloved, Relentless Flood, and The Protest). I was lucky enough to see them on this tour. And got to tell the guys about this chapter. 😳😅😊 Honestly, it was one of the most embarrassing thing's I've ever done but in good conscious, I couldn't not say anything, especially since I have talked to Josh about my writing before.

Their song "Greater" had been really important for me, to remind me about why I do what I do. And at KCF last year, I talked with him about that song and our shared conviction for a little bit. From the song:

My goal isn't to write for the comments, hits, or bookmarks. Not being well known in the fandom or well liked by people. I write for a greater purse. And this greater thing is Jesus Christ and his kingdom. I love Jesus for who He is and what He's done for me, in and through me (and that is a whole long, complex story there). But a small part: I fervently believe writing these stories is one of the reasons God put me here and gave me the interests I do (yes, including DP) and the talent in writing I have. From the messages I sent to The Protest and the other bands in this chapter, asking if they wanted to take a look at the chapter.

"I write this story for fun and post because I love the characters and the community of other people who do too. But I also see it as a mission field, as a way to write about God's love and grace and show it to people who otherwise wouldn't hear. This chapter is also a love letter to the Christian Rock community as a whole. I love you guys, your music, and the community a lot. The Protest, other bands, and fellow fans have had a huge impact on my life: encouraging me, inspiring me, reminding me of Jesus's love and strengthening my conviction to serve Him. The Protest inspires me to write, ministering in the way I know I've been called."

The point is: I put a lot of heart into this story and all my others. I pray that God will guide my words and be glorified in them. I pray that the people who need to read them will, and they will be encouraged, strengthened and inspired. And most importantly- that God will speak to them, not me. That they will, that you will, see just a hint of His love and grace in what I write and in how I interact with people in this community. I pray that lives will be changed, even in small ways. That seeds will be planted, even if I never see them grow.

idk if this is like a universal experience but when i started writing smut (even after like a couple years of Not Writing like i did) i was so embarrassed?? by the words i was putting down?

as a side effect of this sort of shameful feeling i think too many people make smut too 'fluffy' so to speak using vague and unsexy words like 'pearl' 'center' 'length' (to some extent) 'apex' 'release'- which imo.. is as i said is not sexy. like ur writing erotica, so be erotic!!! telling it like it is is better. but even more than that AVOID AT ALL COSTS using 'penis' 'scrotum' 'vagina' like those words belong in a textbook. theyre unsexy (and gross tbh) on PURPOSE and doesnt belong in any smut whatsoever.

but also... big/fancy words ≠ better writing. u end up sounding pretentious if this is done too much.

i feel like this is most important. u dont have to have sex to be good at writing smut (i am asexual LOL). sure it helps but u can look up videos/photos/read other fanfics that are good (that is to say arousing to u) and look closer. what words do they use and how do they describe? what sounds good? and for images, what did that noise sound like? breathy, bitten, sharp? look, and does this person have sweat on their skin? how hard are they blushing? it's the details, and with writing smut, try to imitate ur favorites' style of writing (but obviously never copy).

also reading other fics/consuming not sfw media will make your writing more accurate. sucking on someone's nipples for instance won't immediately make them soaking wet. he's not hard as a rock as soon as his partner gives him bedroom eyes. stuff like that. inaccuracies like those (for me) take me out of the smut the most.

however: the realities of sex are vastly different from fanfic. there are more embarrassing moments. you get a wedgie from lingerie. anal sex requires a ton of prep beforehand (as in. cleaning it out). fiction is fiction (and fanfic is an idealized fiction) so you can take liberties.

along these lines PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE as with all art i guess. that embarrassed feeling will go away i promise, and you will 'get good' at it if you make a consistent effort to make it good. an easier way to put it is u will look back at ur old smut (like i have done) and cringe bc you've gotten better without realizing. it always happens slowly.

there is no perfect way to go about writing smut tho. everyone has their own style. dont be like me and only read works by one specific author and base how u write smut on how they do (even if they're rly good). in general it's good to branch out so u arent limited to a narrow view/style of writing and what's good or not.

what's sexy about smut isn't the sex for the most part. yeah sex is . sexy, but the build up to it makes it so much more satisfying. include kinks u like from time to time. what are the emotions?? that's what makes it both satisfying to write and read imo.

and besides if u go on writing smut just for the literal sex, u get bored and blocked and jaded. (but this may apply more to me?)

don't be like I was and describe every single thing everyone is feeling and thinking and doing. ur doing too much work both for urself and it's unexciting to the reader if ur writing is doing all the work for them. like saying 'he put his hand here which made her blank because blank and so she blank, feeling blank and he blank... and so on'. it's better to write more REACTIONS to something a character does which makes it more vivid to imagine how it feels. like: 'her hand roamed down and pressed between his legs. a sharp gasp. his toes curl'. for example ?

don't use commonly used and 'cliche' i guess phrases. infamously, 'their tongues battled for dominance'. it's a weird image and kind of gross. it's lazy and doesn't make the reader feel as much as they could when phrased more creatively, like, 'she pushed her tongue past his lips, and buried inside. with a grunt, he swings his arm over her shoulders and yanks her closer' for example.

not to say metaphors or just rhetorical ways of phrasing don't belong (i am not the rule maker on smut either), but depending on whether it's quick and rough or passionate+slow+this is the result of build up after 18 chapters - ur smut should be written differently. the latter should have a large focus on how special it is, or how long overdue with lots of emotions. rough and fast has quick, sharp sentences and a fast pace. for example.

and remember... ur writing established characters having sex, so keep showing their personalities while it happens. a character like levi for example isnt automatically reduced to begging and pleading if that makes sense. depending on other details... like is this makeup sex after an argument? how comfortable are they together (which is especially important to take into consideration if it's levi.)? what are their boundaries? is this couple new to smth this risky?

mmm i can't think of anything else. others feel free to add on though. hope that helps / makes sense!

Fallen Dynasty

This sh*t with Jonathan Majors is getting real serious, man. Dude is getting dropped by his representation left and right, more cats are alleging brutality, and Disney might have already fired the dude from the Kang role. This sh*t is wild to see, man. Majors was finally, deservedly, on the upswing with his career. Dude had some stellar performances under his belt, both Lovecraft Country and The Harder They Fall come to mind, but was poised to have his signature role, this far, really leave a mark. I was a little hesitant to give this man the nod as Kang the Conqueror when Marvel announced his casting, not because of his performance or his race, but because Kang is just a goofy ass villain. But then Majors sauntered through as He Who Remains and I was sold. That one episode we got of his, was more than enough for me to get behind what Feige had planned. Dude was so nonchalant about the destruction of an entire timeline, so smarmy with is inevitable fate. I loved it! I haven’t personally seen Ant-Man III but I’ve heard that Major’s performance as the Conqueror proper, is the best thing about that film. I was looking forward to The Kang Dynasty but all of that is up in the air now because of this chick’s allegations.

It must be stated that Majors has steadfastly denied the allegations and that his primary accuser has basically recanted her initial claims but, goddamn, does this sh*t look grim. His lawyer finally released the evidence she had and, while I think it reads clearly as someone who has come to their senses and wants to try to mitigate the damage they have done to a person’s life, I can see how it can be interpreted as another abuse victim kowtowing to their abuser. As one Twatter reaction stated, “This ain’t the flex you think it is.” I get that. I also get that Majors removed himself from the situation and it was he who called the cops that night. I also understand that the cabbie gave a statement and even handed over the video of the ride where the incident took place. For my money, Majors is being wrongfully accused because, you know, giant, rich, black man. Wouldn’t be the first time. Definitely won’t be the last. But this time is wild to me because of the worms coming out from under their years long hibernation on this subject to make their own claims. If Jonathan Majors abused this many people, if he was violent to all of these alleged victims, where the f*ck have they been? Major’s has been in the spotlight for some time and not a word. But now that he’s on the cusp of super stardom, there’s a line of bodies in his wake? Make it make sense.

I already addressed the stuff about the cats claiming battery from back in his college days but these new “victims” are nuts to me. I get that the case against him was floundering because of the recantation and the cabbie’s statement so now the cops needed way more, which they got. Sh*t just seems real fishy to me, especially considering that there are rumblings of coaching being caught on the body cam footage of the initial response. I imagine it’s not a coincidence that the strangulation charge was dropped but I digress. If that sh*t is sus, how am I supposed to take the sudden influx of other victims seriously? Obviously, I could be wrong and Jonathan Majors could be a decades long violent psychopath but that doesn’t feel real to me. It doesn’t feel accurate. It feels made up. It feels like a false claim. It feels like the systemic lynching of a another rich, famous, black man. But that remains to be seen. I want to believe Majors is innocent in all of this because I want him to be Kang. I want him to get that Marvel shine. I want him to be that superstar. We already lost Chadwick, we need Majors. Time will tell how history sees this situation but, so far, these optics are real bad.

idk how it is in Korea, but ppl in the west are full of propaganda about how in the DPRK they just line up schoolchildren and shoot them, that's the worst one i've heard but there's millions of other things similar, so when you say anything about the DPRK they immediately imagine these kinds of things, its a knee-jerk reaction for many westerners.

yeah it's the same but more intimate cuz we r literally the same people they've only been separate from us as a national identity for a few generations now. videos from the dprk appear in the south korean news often like how their crops are doing and what small political things are happening within their government. south koreans just don't have the thick ideological veil of foreignness and orientalism. there's still immense propaganda and recent history of dictatorship led propaganda but it's not so ridiculous and the news stories about the dprk are pretty much accurate.

the vast majority of people will have this knee jerk reaction and i ignore most of them. they're so willing to believe in the oriental despot trope they don't actually need facts. but sometimes the stuff they say rly bothers me and i just have to tell them the truth as i know it.

So I just watched the last episode of season 4 of What We Do In the Shadows. (As of writing this that is, which is really late. It’s posted at a different time) And.. holy shit that was.... a lot to take in. The song made me tear up, the revelations.. the.. well loss. Colin not remembering the childhood Laszlo and Guillermo had tried to give him, is so.. sad. Like when he’s at what could be consider a “teen state” is described as being in between child and adult; which is true. But it’s the fact it’s only there for.. 2 episodes, hell technically 1 1/2 episodes!! Which is accurate to how it feels to.. grow up. Your a kid one second, the next your in some weird state that isn’t a kid anymore but.. your not an adult, and next your an adult who can’t picture what being a kid was anymore. That’s not the same for everyone at all, but that’s what I got from this. (I also saw briefly someone point out that there is hope that maybe Colin could get his childhood memories back from his YouTube videos, and hell even the footage from the documentary!! So here’s hoping; though I am mostly wishing for these memories to come back so Colin and Laszlo can have their bond back.)

The other thing though, Guillermo.. him going to Derek to get turned is.. A BIG TURNING POINT. Like, when he said he’s going to make a change he MEANT it! This gives me so many... thoughts about what could happen next. There are multiple ways it could play out honestly. Guillermo is turned by Derek and it shifts the dynamics more and forces change in a way to the other vampires! Derek refuses (Which is.. only half likely as the only reason I can see Derek not turning him is because he might think being a vampire sucks,) and Guillermo goes off to find someone else to turn him, and that’s a whole thing which.. would be, interesting I guess. BUT the one thing I have focused on is.. if he does get turned, how will his Van Helsing DNA react? Because clearly Van Helsing DNA is supernatural itself, since it gives Guillermo and his family innate vampire slaying skills, and what that requires! Plus how there is a physical reaction to being around vampires... so it’s clearly supernatural, even if it’s a little bit. Will this make it so he can’t even become a vampire? Probably unlikely.. but what if instead, he is a half vampire? Like well Blade. Since it is canonly possible in the WWDITS universe that half vampires exist, with Wesley Snipes just, being a real half vampire there.

If Guillermo does become a half vampire, it could represent how he still got what he wants but it didn’t.. well change him in the same way as vampirism changes the others. I’d be a really big shift in the status quo. Him becoming a vampire itself already does that but, a half vampire it’s different. He has humanity in a way still, something Nandor has strived for. And with how cut off he is slowly making himself distant from Nandor, so the fact that Guillermo gained what he wanted but also kept something Nandor had been striving for, for himself is like great salt in the wound.

Guillermo being a half vampire not only would put him on level playing field with the other vampires more, aside from the growth that has already occur over the seasons, but actually above now. Since he was already a vampire slayer by blood, but now he’s a vampire like them BUT he can still do what they can’t.

If Guillermo becomes a full vampire, the impact will be the same of the dynamic getting flipped on it’s head. And showing the vampires that things DO change and won’t go back to the status quo. But the impact of him being a half vampire could... do a lot too in my opinion.

The Vampiric Council is already iffy on Wesley because he’s a half vampire who is also a slayer. So imagine the stress and intrigue of Guillermo not only being a half vampire slayer too, but one from the Van Helsing blood line. Now I don’t think anyone besides the vampires of the house and The Guide know about Guillermo’s Van Helsing blood, but the council do at least know he’s a slayer. They probably would do some digging cause he would be on their radar if he was another half vampire, and then be prepared to execute him if they figure out his heritage. Not only does he have the innate vampire slaying abilities, he now has their abilities as well, and if he IS a half vampire.. he can come for them at any time of day while they are vulnerable.

This started as a simple thought of the different ways that last scene could end up in season 5 (and some talk about Colin and Laszlo).. but now I just really like the idea of half vampire Guillermo. It’s more likely he’ll become a fully vampire. if one at all but come one.. he will be one, but it’s still something that could be interesting!

Hey, ya'll, I was looking over Niki Lauda's birth chart because of curiosity and to pass the time, and I thought it might be interesting to make a post going over his signs and houses, writing down all that it says about him.
