🥀 + emily!
send me 🥀 + an oc and i'll tell you who will stand by their grave the longest!
First off, this may or may not be canon, since I go back and forth on having her to die in the end.
Sam is probably the longest out of both brothers. Emily was his twin - stuck by him no matter what. Of everyone, there was always a part of Sam that thought they would do everything together; they were born together so it only made sense if they died together too.
Dean would definitely stay long too - probably even go the rare moment he convinced Sam to take care of himself. He practically raised both Sam and Emily - they are his little siblings, his responsibility, no matter how old they got.
Jack and Castiel I feel wouldn't exactly visit her grave since they spend time with her in heaven. But they would definitely show up when both brothers are there to offer their support and confirm she's okay.
Bonus: if this takes place after the finale and she does die instead of Dean, I imagine late at night Chuck shows up. Because he's an ego-maniacal narcissist but deep down cared about her in his own way.

Outlaws 2 (Be The Young 15)
GIANT TW which will be valid for each episode for suicidal thoughts, self-h*rm, violence, cursing, relatives dying, mentions of s*x, s*xual assault*
All chapter titles are song titles, some of them translated from Italian songs. We start from the first season and make out way through the series. I will break canon (mostly from the S2 finale) but will try to get back into it for the sake of ✨ lore ✨ .
Summary: Emily's life used to be normal. Until one day, her family died, leaving behind just one letter.
"After reading this whole letter, call John Winchester. [...] He’s your real father."
MASTERLIST
Outlaws
They’ll never understand the honor among these thieves.
The journey was quiet. Both Emily and Sam had a lot of things to reflect on. Emily kept going through the names Ash gave them, thinking about how she was the only one left alive of her age. “Stop reading those names.” Said Sam, about five miles away from Lafayette. “It’s not doing you any good and I can hear you over thinking about them in your mind.” “Am I the only one who finds it a little bit disturbing how you can just hear me think?” “Trust me, I would turn it off if I could, but it’s not as easy as it sounds.” “Right.” She exhaled and put the paper away. “It happened to me too, you know?” “Really?” “Yeah, back in Portland. At one point I told you to shut the fuck up and I felt your feelings getting hurt. Like the princess you truly are.” She mocked. “Fuck you man, I thought we were about to die!” “We’re always about to die.” She exhaled. “But it’s alright, just- very weird feeling.” “Yup.” “You think Dean is already on our tracks?” “Probably, we’re lucky if he’s not waiting for us at the police station.”
To their surprise, Dean wasn’t there. After gathering Scott’s family address, they headed to his house. His mother welcomed them warmly, especially after they told her they were Scott’s high school mates. “Scotty was a good boy. He changed a lot since you knew him.” Said his mother. “What do you mean?” Sam’s interest seemed roused. “It started about a year ago with these headaches. And then he got depressed, paranoid, nightmares.” Sam and Emily exchanged a quick look before he investigated further. “Nightmares? Um, did he ever talk to you about his nightmares? What he saw, or…” “No, no. He closed up with me. I tried to get him help, but nothing took. He'd just lock himself in his room for days.” “Miss Carey, I’m sorry if this is an indelicate question.” Asked Emily. “But you think maybe we could see his room?” As they entered Scott’s room, Sam started taking a look around as Emily kept the conversation going with the mother. Suddenly, Sam walked behind her and sneakily pushed something into her left pocket. From touch alone, Emily thought it was some sort of container, but she ignored it and kept talking with the woman. Suddenly, he appeared next to her. “Miss Carey, it was very nice of you to let us in today. I hope we weren't too nosy." He smiled. "No, not at all. It's nice to talk with someone who loved him."
"So, what is this?" Emily took out the mysterious container out of her pocket. "Prescription pills?" "Yeah. They have the name of the doctor who cured him. Maybe he will know something his mother didn't." As they kept walking, Emily started noticing someone was following them. You see them as well? Yup. Be ready at the next corner we pass. They approached a turn in the sidewalk and right after passing it, they turned around, grabbed whoever was following them from one shoulder each and shoved them against the wall. "Please!" Said a female voice coming from the dark figure. "Who are you?!" Sam asked, upset. "Please, listen to me. You're in danger." Sam and Emily looked at each other briefly before carefully letting the girl go. She was shaking in fear, terrified. "Why were you following us?" "I told you, I came to warn you, you- you might blow up soon!" Emily raised her eyebrows. "Blow up?!" She repeated. Sam gazed at her. "Okay, maybe it's better if we talk somewhere more private." They entered the nearby motel, where they were staying. The girl was nervous and Emily could almost recognize herself in her behaviour: she was about to lose it and it was very clear. "Why don't you take a sit, ugh- I don't think I got your name, sorry." Said Emily, trying to calm her down. "Ava." "Alright, Ava, why don't you sit down, I'll bring you a cup of water, okay?" I'll try to keep her calm, you ask the questions, okay? She looked at Sam. He nodded and sat down on the bed in front of Ava. "Okay, look, I know how all this sounds, but I am not insane and I am not on drugs. Okay? I am normal, and this is way, way off the map for me." Said she, nervous. Emily handed her a glass of water, which spilled a little in Ava's shaky hands. "All right, all right, just, just calm down. Okay?" "I'm trying, but-" "Okay, so, my name's Emily." Said Emily, standing next to Sam. "And he's Sam. Ava, why do you think we're in danger?" "Yeah, uh, okay, about a year ago I started having these, like, headaches, and just, nightmares, I guess. And I really didn't think much of it until I had this one dream where I saw this guy get stabbed in a parking lot." "When was this?" Asked Sam. Emily pulled out the paper Ash had given them and looked through the names to find Ava. She wasn't there. Not even a similar name. "Uh, about a month ago. But, anyway, a couple of days later, I found this." Answered Ava, pulling out a newspaper clipping from her jacket. It was the piece on Scott's death. Sam took it to analyze it closer. "I saw this guy die, days before it happened. I don't know why, I don't know, it's just for some reason, my dreams are coming true. And last night I had another one." "Let me guess, we die." Said Emily, putting away the piece of paper. "Yeah." "How did you find us?" "I saw you- you had motel stationary so I looked it up and- here I am." Emily tapped Sam on his shoulder. "Can I talk to you? Privately." She gestured towards Ava. Sam nodded and they moved into the bathroom. "What?!" He asked, impatient. "She's not on the list." "And?" "I don't like this, what if she's lying?" "Emily, she's most likely just as scared as we are- Look." He said, seeing how his sister was growing more nervous. He put both hands on his shoulder. "Maybe we got the criteria wrong. I mean, we have very loose information, maybe-" "I'm not saying don't listen to her, I'm saying be careful!" "Okay, I'll be careful!" Sam said, impatient. Then, he hurriedly and nervously left the bathroom. They found Ava trying to nervously close her jacket, getting ready to leave. "I'm sorry, I never should have come, I'll just-" "No, no- It's okay, we believe you." Intervened Sam as Emily also re-emerged from the bathroom, nervous. Ava stopped. "You do?" “Yeah, of course you- you must be one of us.” Sam pointed at him and Emily. “Sorry, one of- one of who?” “One of the psychics. Like us. Look, Ava, I have visions too, all right? So we're connected.” “Okay, so, you're nuts. That's great.” Ava rolled her eyes, looking even more nervous than she previously did. “That’s a way to put it.” Said Emily, sarcastically making fun of Sam. He scowled at her. “Listen, did your mother happen to die in a house fire?” He asked. “No, my mother lives in Palm Beach!” Aaaand the plot thickens… Well done, Sam. Give me a break, I’m trying to find out the truth! He quickly gestured, dismissing her. Yeah, doing a great job, champ. You think you can get her to not run away and call the cops on us? I thought you wanted to find out what’s happening! I do, but- No, you know what, Dean is right, you-
“What’s happening?” Ava’s voice brought both of them back to reality. “What is this, some kind of… twins sign language?” With a hard scowl, Emily promised Sam the conversation was not over.
A whole later, Ava begged them to leave. “Listen, why don’t you just leave town? Please? Before you blow up?” “Not happening.” Exhaled Emily, who was aggressively making coffee in the motel’s kitchenette to blow off some steam. “Oh, god, why not?” “Ava, there’s something going on here. There might be other people with our abilities, so to call them, out there.” “We might be part of something.” Added Sam. That seemed to upset Ava even more, something Emily didn’t think was possible. “Okay. you know what?” Ava stood up. “Screw you, buddy. Okay? Because I'm a secretary from Peoria and I'm not part of anything! Okay? Do you see this?” Ava showed her hand, where she was wearing an engagement ring. “I am getting married in eight weeks. I am supposed to be at home addressing invitations, which I am way behind on, by the way. But instead, I drove out here to save your weirdo ass. But if you just want to stay here and die, fine. Me? I'm due back on Planet Earth.” “Don't you want to know why this is happening?” Asked Sam. “I mean, don't these visions scare the hell out of you? Because if you walk out that door right now you might never know the truth, Ava.”
The girl looked at him intensely for a second, then turned to Emily, who did not bother giving her any display of emotion. She didn’t like the idea of involving someone who knew so little in a matter that complicated and potentially dangerous. Ava sighed and left. Sam tried to stop her, but Emily talked to him telepathically once more. Let her go, Sam. Let her have the normal life we’ve always wanted.
Ava had left two hours before and yet, little to nothing had moved in the motel room. Emily had finished making coffee, handed a cup to Sam and they both resumed their research in silence. “I do want to know what’s happening.” Said Emily, a while later. “I just don’t think we should involve anybody else. Not like that.” “We could have used her help, Emily!” Sam closed his laptop shut. “Her help? She was scared to death, Sam!” She tried to resume her reading but more thoughts came up. “Also what, I’m not enough help? You need a random girl?” “I never said that.” Emily exhaled, nervous. “Didn’t need to.” “Alright, let’s talk about this. Why do you-” Sam trailed off. “What? Sam?” Asked Emily, finally closed her book. She was expecting Sam trying to shrink her as he usually would, but he didn’t. The glimpse of an idea lit up in his eyes. “I got an idea.”

Love In The Bureau 4/?
They hadn’t seen one another in 8 years until her boss decided to leave, leaving the position of Team Leader up for grabs. Kate wasn’t the happiest when she found out who it was, but maybe something can change this time round...
Enemies to friends to lovers. CM level violence. AU!
Tumblr media
Almost three weeks had passed since Dean's brother had come with a case and they'd figured it out. And, not much had changed between the two teammates. As much as Garcia had tried to pull a couple of strings, being thankful she and the others weren't the only ones to see it.
However, as much as she tried, it still didn't change anything. But, clearly, fate had different plans.
It was late - close to midnight - when Dean found Kate in the bullpen. They'd landed hours ago. Everyone else had gone home. They had the next two days off to recover since they'd done back-to-back. He'd only come in to pick up a couple of files to finish off his paperwork.
"You're still here?"
She was the only one there. A couple of lights were still on at desks but no-one was on the floor. Rain poured onto the windows loudly. A storm was on its way in.
"Hhm? Oh, Dean - Hey."
"Why are you still here? I let the team home hours ago."
Kate smiled softly. "I know, I just...lost track of time I guess."
Dean stood in silence for a moment before siting in the chair in front of her, her back to the window, now.
"Talk to me. What's going on? You were quiet on the plane, too."
"I'm okay," Kate smiled. "Honestly."
Dean searched her eyes. She wasn't lying. She was calm. Content.
"Then...what's going on?"
"Nothing, just thinking."
"About what?" Dean asked.
Kate smiled. "About when we first met."
Dean was a little confused but gave a small laughing-scoff as he sat back. "Okay, what? When I was a son-of-a-bitch bastard and you were a pain-in-the-ass?"
Kate smiled. "Yeah. Those were your first words to me, remember?"
"If I remember correctly, I warned you Not to be a pain in my ass."
~ ~ ~
"Hey, who's your trainer?"
"I don't know."
"What do you mean, you don't know?" The Agent asked again.
"I mean, I don't know. I was meant to get Agent Morgan but he's unavailable." Kate told them.
"So, who've you got?"
"I don't know." Kate answered again. "Look, all I know is that apparently the guy who fills in is a hard-ass so-"
"Carter!"
Kate turned around to find a green-eyed man dressed in all black with a gun by his side stood in the lunch room door way, a clipboard in hand.
"Carter! You here?"
Kate stood up from where she had been sat on the table. "Here."
He eyed her face, a look of clear judgement on his face before he looked back to the clipboard and checked something off.
"You're with me. Move."
Kate was a little shocked. They were meant to be introduced to their mentor-trainers in an hour. And definetly not in the lunch room on break.
"Y-Yes, Sir." Kate followed him. He couldn't be much older than she was but clearly he meant business. She was 23 and he was, what? 26? 27? Clearly, he was good at his job.
Kate quickly caught up to him as they marched down the hall towards the target lanes.
"Are you my-"
"Trainer? Yes. And a word of warning, don't be a pain in my ass. This job demands dicipline not dancing."
"Yeah, kinda why I'm not a ballet dancer. As much as my aunt tried." Kate joked only, he stopped in his tracks, stopping her too, and looked to her.
"Was that a joke?"
"Maybe. Why? Is that on your no-list, too?"
"Yes."
And he continued walking. And Kate caught up. "Don't be late. Every morning at 8am, I want you to meet my by the lanes."
"Shooting lanes?"
He just gave her a look.
"Got it." Kate nodded.
"For every minute you're late, is another lap you have to do of the running track so I suggest you get there earlier than me."
"Well, what time do you-"
"You'll take a break at 12 and you'll study in between. And call me a hard-ass all you like-"
"I'd call you something more than that, but sure." Kate mumbled under her breath, and he clearly heard.
"I've not had a bad agent go into the field yet. So, either listen to me or go and find another trainer who will hold your hand because you're not strong enough to stomach the job. Clear?"
"Crystal."
"Good. Now, show me what you've got so I can see what we're working with."
Kate was a little flustered at first, but quickly walked in as he opened up the door for her. At first she cleaned, loaded and unloaded her gun. He timed her.
"Good, but you need to be quicker. Again."
And then they began target practice.
She tried to listen to his every word, but the more he explained and gave her senarios in which she'd need to be more precise and quicker, the more she became distracted and missed the target.
She got a little better each day - usually, she was good. That was what got her in so quick to the academy. She was a good shot.
But, after three days, she finally snapped.
"Jesus christ!"
It was like a film came over her ears, blocking his voice out as she shot six bullets into the paper target, two hitting each target through the same hole.
He was stunned. She was a good shot.
"So, you gonna say something other than the many different ways I can be murdered? Or is it just gonna be more awkward silences from here on out?"
For the rest of the day, Kate tried to talk to him. Tried to get him to talk back. But nothing. During the training for the last 36 hours he'd said nothing more than why she needs to concentrate, be the best shot, be good. And, now? Nothing. Not a single word. Just more stares, judging her. And, even though nothing seemed to change on the outside, Kate knew something was different when she got in the next day, sat in the target range, waiting for him.
"You know, you're two minutes late." She told him. "I should be the one making you do two laps."
"You might be a good shot but I need to know you're a good agent. Having a good hand on a gun isn't enough."
"I got into the program, didn't I? That's why I'm here, isn't it?"
"Getting in is only the first step, and from what I hear, you didn't have to even take that."
Kate was taken aback. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It's supposed to mean, I took a look at your file. No-one has ever shot like you shot yesterday. No-one. Others have gotten close but yours? Yours was too much like somebody elses. I know your name, Carter."
"If you're implying that I got in here on my name-"
"I'm not implying, I'm saying."
Kate was stunned. She'd put her file on lockdown herself. No-one could get into it unless they had the Director's approval.
So he went to the top. Of course he did.
"I train Agents, Carter. Not wannabes who are looking to follow in their family footsteps. No matter where they come from."
"I didn't get in because of my name. I got in because I passed the exams. You don't believe me? I'll take them again. Not that I should have to prove myself to you-"
"I'm the one who gives you the green light for joining the Bureau. I'm the one you have to prove everything to, to say that you're good enough to be an agent. Not a gun-man."
"You've been training me as if I'm joining undercover ops. I've got a BA in Psychology. I'm looking to join the BAU. Not the CIA. Not the Pentagon. I'm making a life for myself because I want to. Not because of my blood."
"Training's cancelled today. Go home."
"But-"
"I said go home."
Kate couldn't do anything about it. He was her trainer. And as much as she hated it, he was the one that would give her the green light. And he had a point. She had to be a good agent, not just a good shot. But he shouldn't have judged her name. He should be judging her as a person, not as the daughter of one of the most famous Agents in the world and one of the most famous Soldier's in the world.
~ ~ ~
"If you think I still think of you that-"
Kate was quick to shake her head. "No. No. I know you don't think that anymore. Truthfully, I wasn't judging you."
Kate raised her eyebrow.
"Okay, maybe I was, but it wasn't just you. And this isn't an excuse. I could have been nicer." Dean reassured her.
"What do you mean, wasn't just me?"
"Once people knew who you are...they would have been nicer to you. Done more things for you. Maybe let you in a little eaiser than everyone else, all for who your folks are."
"Well, it wasn't." Kate told him. "Everywhere I went, it was always a little bit harder. But it was nice. Nice to know people weren't treating me like some...godess who could grant them wishes. I don't know. Maybe without you being the way you were with me, I wouldn't have made it this far?"
"How'd you mean?"
Kate shifted her eyes from Dean for a moment.
"Hey, talk to me. What happened?"
Kate managed to fight the tears back. "You remember when I told you I'd only been scared once?"
Dean nodded.
"I lied. It was only the second-"
"Oh, come on-"
Kate leaned in closer to Dean, meeting him at the half way mark between them. "I'm being serious, Dean. It...it was just after I got transfered to a different trainer..."
"Did he?"
Kate shook her head. "No. No, nothing like that, but he did send me on a mission. It was only a small one. He thought I was ready with what he had taught me. Gave the green light to the primary on the case and...well, it went sideways. I was 24 and I was on my first mission ever and I got scared. I froze."
"Everyone freezes their first time."
Kate shook her head. "I shouldn't have froze. The target started shooting, and...I don't even remember what was in my head, I just froze. I knew I wasn't ready."
"What was the mission?"
"I was part of an extraction team."
Dean sat up at this. "You were a rookie and he sent you in for extraction? That's like the..12th rule. You don't send in a rookie to do an experience job. What the hell-"
"I don't know. But I froze. And I got scared but then I remember what you had told me. God, I was still so pissed at you. You weren't even there and I still wanted to prove you wrong. So, I did. I guess you being a hard-ass worked. And, after all, I got where I wanted to be, didn't I? Apart of the BAU. My own 'found family', if you will."
"I'm still sorry for judging you. You're a good agent, Kate. Better than me, anyway."
"Says our Team Leader."
Dean smiled, "Well, I might have a few more years on you."
Kate rolled her eyes, hiding her smile. "God, you talk as if your ancient."
The pair laughed, their eyes landing on each others. They had been holding eye contact the entire conversation but something about this felt different. More...deeper. Deeper than just two co-workers talking in the dim lights of the empty office...

Supernatural: Castiel/Anya
Sam and Dean are arrested.
(Castiel walks into the bunker. He plods down the stairs and looks around. The lights are all on but the main area is empty. He sighs and walks down the hall. He should be celebrating with Sam and Dean after finally managing to get Lucifer out of the president and back into his cage with the help of Rowena and Crowley. Their new associate from the British men of letters was also helpful but he still doesn’t trust this Ketch fellow. He sighs again and stops, thinking. Sam and Dean have been arrested for attempting to assassinate the president and he has managed to lose the woman carrying Lucifer’s child. He sighs again and stops outside one of the doors. He can hear music quietly playing from within. He turns and looks at the door opposite before going to it and slowly opening it. He looks at the toddler curled up in bed sleeping. His daughter, Emily. Just one of the many things that happened while he was human. He closes the door again and turns back to the door across the hall. He knocks on it then goes inside. He closes the door behind him. Sam and Dean’s sister Anya is sat at her dressing table. She is wearing a black dress and her hair is done up in a bun. She is also wearing her emerald necklace and earrings. She hasn’t looked up. He notices that she has a half empty bottle of whiskey in front of her along with a glass.).
Castiel: Emily get to sleep okay?
Anya: She missed her dad. Again.
Castiel: I’m sorry. I’ve been tied up with Lucifer.
Anya: I know.
Castiel: He’s gone now. We got him.
Anya: That’s good.
Castiel: Um...Sam and Dean...
Anya: What now?
Castiel: They’ve been arrested.
Anya: Again? What for this time?
Castiel: Attempting to assassinate the president.
Anya: Oh is that all?
(She sighs and takes a large gulp of whiskey.).
Castiel: I’m sure it will be okay.
Anya: Hm.
Castiel: Hey we always seem to sort things out.
Anya: Do we?
Castiel: Yes. We do.
Anya: You’re not even here half the time. None of you are.
Castiel: Well...Lucifer was my responsibility I couldn’t just sit here while he wreaked havoc out there.
Anya: I guess not.
(She takes another sip of whiskey. He frowns.).
Castiel: I’ve called your mother.
Anya: Oh?
Castiel: She’s on her way here.
Anya: Don’t hold your breath.
Castiel: She’s your mother. She cares about you and her boys.
Anya: That why as soon as she’s back with us she leaves?
(Castiel frowns.).
Castiel: Are you alright? Is there something I should know about?
Anya: Not really.
(She looks down.).
Anya: I’ve been seeing someone. Well...Sort of.
Castiel: Yes. Sam said you’ve been going out a lot recently.
Anya: I saw him again tonight. He cooked me dinner.
Castiel: He came here?
Anya: No. He doesn’t know about any of this. I left Emily with Kim.
(She takes another sip of whiskey before pouring some more into the glass.).
Castiel: Did it not go well?
Anya: No it went great. He’s nice, funny. He’s everything I could want. But...
(She takes another sip of whiskey.).
Anya: I don’t know. When he was kissing me...Touching me...I couldn’t. It felt...I don’t know.
Castiel: I don’t understand. Has he hurt you?
Anya: You’ve never understood.
Castiel: Then tell me.
Anya: I was with someone. I lived with someone. I thought that we had something but then he left us. Then I found out I was pregnant and I was scared and I didn’t know if he’d even care. He was shocked too but he seemed to care. He said that he’d look after us. That we were all family here and I was dumb enough to think that maybe just maybe we still had something. But I soon realised that we never had anything at all. Coz I was just something to do while you were human. I didn’t matter, I’ve never mattered.
Castiel: Where has all this come from?
Anya: Oh you must know how much you’ve hurt me! How much you’ve hurt your daughter!
(He frowns.).
Castiel: I...
Anya: It was nothing to you was it? Just something to do while you were human. Some experimenting here. Some there. I thought I could be happy. Living with you I was happy. I didn’t think it possible for me. You know this life. Always moving, something always after you. Then of course it was ruined. You went home with someone else. A reaper no less.
(She scoffs and shakes her head.).
Anya: I realised how stupid I’d been. How naive. I felt like a bloody fool. Then I found out I was pregnant. Then you became an angel again. I was happy for you, I was. But...I knew that was it. You were gone again. Back to being some unfeeling soldier. I was alone and pregnant.
(She sighs.).
Castiel: It wasn’t like that.
Anya: So you didn’t use me while you were human then drop me as soon as you were back to normal? You weren’t living with me and sleeping with me while hooking up with other women?
Castiel: I didn’t realise you were upset. I’m sorry.
Anya: You don’t realise a lot of things. Maybe you just don’t bother to look.
(She gets up and picks up the bottle of whiskey before leaving the room. He follows her to the large bathroom. She starts running a bath.).
Castiel: What are you doing?
Anya: Having a bath.
(She takes a swig of whiskey.).
Castiel: How much have you had to drink?
Anya: What are you my dad now? Just leave. You’re good at that.
Castiel: That’s not fair.
Anya: Isn’t it? Hm.
(She turns to look at him.).
Anya: Life isn’t fair Castiel. You should get used to that.
(She goes to the counter and removes her jewellery.).
Anya: You know when we first met you, you were as Dean would say a bit of a dick.
Castiel: I believe he called me that yes.
Anya: But I admired you. I respected you. Then...I fell in love with you.
(He stares at her, his mouth opens slightly.).
Anya: Then you took that love and you smashed it to pieces. Now instead of being Anya Winchester, part time hunter, sister of Sam and Dean. I am Anya Winchester stuck in this Godforsaken bunker all day and night with a daughter who keeps asking when daddy is coming back. I often lie in bed at night unable to sleep wondering if you will ever come back.
(He looks sad.).
Castiel: I’m sorry.
(She takes her hair out of its bun and turns off the water. She then unzips her dress and lets it fall to the floor.).
Castiel: I’ll...Let you have your bath.
(He leaves the room and goes back down the hall. He is still wondering how on earth he is going to save Sam and Dean from this latest nightmare. He hopes Mary gets back soon. Her daughter clearly needs her. He has never seen Anya like that. Perhaps it’s just the drink. He goes back into Anya’s room. He didn’t realise she felt that way about him. He goes to her dressing table and looks now at the frame she has sat there. There is a photo of himself and Anya together. They are both smiling. It was taken when he was human. When they were living together. The frame has family written on it. There is also a photo of their daughter taken when she was eight months old slotted into the side of the frame. He sighs and sits down. He’s always known that Anya has cared for him. They are all like family here. They’ve all known each other for years. Been through so much together. But...What she said about being in love with him...He wonders now if he should have realised. He frowns and turns to see his daughter Emily in the doorway. She looks half asleep and rubs her eyes. Then she smiles and runs into his arms.).
Emily: Daddy!
Castiel: Hey. Have you been good for mommy?
Emily: Yep.
Castiel: Good.
Emily: Where is mommy?
Castiel: She’s taking a bath.
Emily: I think mommy’s been upset.
Castiel: She has?
Emily: Um. She misses you. I miss you too daddy. I think she worries about uncle Sam and uncle Dean.
Castiel: Oh she doesn’t need to worry about them. They are big boys.
Emily: Okay. Are you staying or do you have to leave again?
Castiel: I’m staying. For now.
Emily: Stay.
Castiel: Okay. Now you need to be getting back to bed.
Emily: Um. No.
Castiel: Yes.
Emily: Story first.
Castiel: You really should be going to sleep.
Emily: But you never read me a story.
Castiel: Okay. But just one.
Emily: Yay!
(She goes running into her bedroom. Castiel follows her. She gets into bed and Castiel looks at the bookshelf.).
Castiel: What story have you and mommy been reading?
Emily: Not one of those.
Castiel: Oh?
Emily: She told me a story about an angel.
Castiel: She did?
Emily: Um.
Castiel: Well maybe you can tell it to me.
Emily: You’re meant to read the story.
(She giggles.).
Castiel: Okay. So what story do you want?
Emily: The one about the angel.
Castiel: But I don’t know that one.
Emily: Okay. Read the swan book.
(Castiel frowns and looks through the books before spotting one with a swan on the front. Hans Christian Anderson.).
Castiel: This one?
Emily: Yes!
(He sits down next to her and starts to read. By the time he’s finished the third page Emily is asleep. He glances down at her and smiles before closing the book and putting it back on the shelf. He then leaves the room closing the door quietly. He frowns as he notices that Anya isn’t in her room. She must still be in the bath. He walks down the hall and stops at the bathroom door. He gently knocks on it.).
Castiel: Anya?
(No answer. He knocks again.).
Castiel: Anya?
(He hears nothing and frowns.).
Castiel: Are you alright?
(He sighs and tries the door handle. It turns and the door opens slightly.).
Castiel: I’m coming in.
(He opens the door and walks into the bathroom. Anya is lying in the bath with her eyes closed, her head turned to one side. He walks over.).
Castiel: Anya?
(He shakes her shoulder and she opens her eyes and blinks up at him.).
Anya: What are you doing?
Castiel: You shouldn’t sleep in the bath. It’s not safe.
Anya: What? Oh sod off Cass!
(She sighs and covers her eyes with her hand.).
Castiel: I’m sorry if I’ve upset you.
Anya: It isn’t all about you, you know? My brothers are banged up again and my mom is God knows where.
Castiel: She’s on her way back. I’m worried about them too. But we’ll think of something.
Anya: Whatever.
(She stands up and he steps back.).
Anya: Pass me the towel would yah?
Castiel: Um...
(He turns and grabs the towel before handing it to her. She takes it from him and wraps it around herself before stepping out of the bath.).
Anya: What’s up with you? It ain’t nothing you haven’t seen before. Looks a bit different now I’ve had a kid though I suppose.
(She goes to the counter and swipes her hand over the mirror before peering into it and rubbing under her eyes. She sniffs and picks up the bottle of whiskey before taking a swig.).
Castiel: Emily said you’ve been telling her a story about an angel.
(She freezes then puts the bottle down again.).
Anya: She’s meant to be in bed asleep.
Castiel: She is. I started reading her a story and she fell asleep.
Anya: Hm. Some nights she stays awake waiting for you. Even sits in her chair trying to stay awake to wait for daddy.
Castiel: Oh.
Anya: Oh? That’s all you have to say?
(She sighs. Then she drops the towel and grabs her dressing gown. She wraps it around herself and ties it up. She then picks up the towel and rubs her hair before picking up the hairdryer. She switches it on and dries her hair. She then runs the hairbrush through it. She turns around to find the room empty. He’s left again. He’s good at that. It’s all he seems to do. She sighs and goes to the kitchen. She pours herself a glass of wine and takes a sip before leaving the kitchen. She finds Castiel sitting in the main room at the table with the map of the world on it.).
Anya: Are you just going to sit there all night?
Castiel: I thought I’d wait for your mother to get back. Then we can try and come up with some sort of plan to fix this mess.
Anya: Hm. Or you could just come to bed.
(He frowns then looks up at her. She turns and walks off down the hall. She goes into her bedroom. She takes a large gulp of wine and puts the glass on the bedside table. She then gets into bed and lies down. She sighs as tears sting her eyes. She has a daughter who is always asking where her dad is. Emily deserves better than this. She needs a proper home with a garden and a father that is there for her. Her mother comes back from the dead then leaves them, now she’s on her way back here and she has no idea what to say her. Her brothers have been arrested for the hundredth time for trying to assassinate the president no less. She can’t see how they are going to get out of this one. She’s also just asked Castiel to come to bed with her even though it is completely ridiculous. She rolls onto her side and lies there crying quietly. A little while later the door opens. She sniffs and wipes her eyes.).
Castiel: Are you alright?
Anya: Fine.
Castiel: Humans don’t usually cry if they are fine.
Anya: Shut up.
Castiel: Anya...We will get Sam and Dean back. I will get them back. I promise.
Anya: I know.
Castiel: I’m sorry for hurting you. I didn’t realise...I...
Anya: Well now you know. You should be here for Emily more often. She misses you.
Castiel: I know. I’ll try my best but I can’t just abandon my other duties.
Anya: What other duties?
(She sits up and stares at him.).
Castiel: Saving Sam and Dean for one. Helping them rid the world of monsters one at a time. Looking for Kelly Kline.
Anya: Kelly? The chick carrying Lucifer’s baby? The one who ran away from you?
Castiel: Yes. I have to find her.
Anya: Why? Who cares about her and her kid?
Castiel: I do. This is Lucifer’s child we’re talking about and-
Anya: What about your child? You know the little girl sleeping in the next room?
Castiel: Yes of course. But-
Anya: Get out.
(She lies back down and turns away from him.).
Castiel: Anya-
Anya: I said get out. Go find this Kelly. Her and her kid are obviously far more important than your own.
Castiel: It’s not like that. You know it isn’t.
Anya: Just get out. I can’t talk to you right now coz I’m mad at you.
(He lets out a small sigh then nods and leaves the room closing the door behind him. He slowly opens the door to Emily’s room and closes it again. He sits down in the armchair and watches her sleeping. He smiles to himself as he watches her fidget. He still can’t believe that he’s a father. It’s the one thing he thought he’d never be. Emily lets out a small huff and he finds himself smiling. He leans back in the chair and hopes that Mary gets back soon.).
Castiel: I’m going to have leave again soon. I know you don’t like it when I’m not here but I need to help uncle Sam and uncle Dean. I need to find Kelly it’s important. I love you and I’m sorry. Grandma will be back soon and we need to figure some things out but I’m sure she’ll love to see you. She might even have you another present. I will be back as soon as I can. Hopefully with Sam and Dean. Look after your mom for me.
(He sighs.).
Castiel: No, I can’t ask you to do that. You’re just a child...You sleep well.
(He leaves the room and goes back into Anya’s room. She’s stood at the foot of the bed holding her glass of wine. Nick Cave’s O Children is playing the volume low. Her dressing gown is falling off her shoulder. She is clearly a little drunk. She turns and looks at him.).
Anya: I told you I’m mad at you.
Castiel: I know. I’m sorry. I’ve hurt you and I never wanted to do that. I didn’t realise that’s how you felt...About me.
Anya: Why would you? Your an angel. I’m just a human.
Castiel: It’s not like that. Your my family. You and Emily, Sam, Dean, Mary.
Anya: I know.
Castiel: You should get some sleep. You’ve had a lot to drink.
Anya: Um...
(She takes another sip of wine.).
Anya: I’ll go to bed in a minute. I like this song.
Castiel: I know. I remember us dancing to it.
Anya: You remember that?
Castiel: Of course. I was working at that store and you were...
Anya: Doing three nights a week at a strip club.
Castiel: Yes.
Anya: Paid for that apartment. Just about.
Castiel: You’d just finished work and it was gone 11pm. You came in and poured us both a glass of wine. Then you put this song on and started dancing.
(She laughs. Tears have filled her eyes again.).
Anya: It’s one of my favourite memories you know?
(She smiles and downs the rest of the wine before putting the glass down.).
Anya: Do you think we can really get Sam and Dean out of trouble this time?
Castiel: I have no idea how we are going to do it. But we are going to do it. I’m not going to give up.
Anya: I know.
(She smiles at him. The song ends and she starts playing it again.).
Anya: Will you dance with me?
(He stares at her then smiles slightly before nodding. He walks over to her and she steps into his arms. She wraps her arms around his neck holding him tight. She buries her head in his shoulder as they sway to the music. He wraps his arms around her. He then realises that she’s crying again. They stand there swaying to the music holding each other. She closes her eyes and inhales deeply. Once the song ends he stops moving. She pauses for a moment before moving her head so that her cheek brushes his. He turns his head slightly and suddenly their lips are inches apart. Tears are rolling down her cheeks. She gives him a quick peck on the lips then the cheek before turning around and turning off the music.).
Anya: I’m gonna sleep now.
Castiel: Yes. Get some rest.
Anya: I should.
(She sighs and gets into bed.).
Castiel: Goodnight Anya.
Anya: Night.
(Castiel leaves the room and closes the door behind him. He walks back down the hall and enters the main room. He looks up the stairs to the door expecting to see Mary walk through it. But she doesn’t. He sits down and stares into space waiting for Mary to get back.).

A/N - Since I found no faceclaim name for Ivy, I’m making an OC called Raye McClaren. Enjoy!
FIRST DAY ON SET
“Today we’re here with the cast of Supernatural.” The reporter, Haley, announced with a smile. “We have Jensen Ackles, who plays Dean Winchester, Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and the newest addition, Raye McClaren as Ivonne Rainer. How are you guys feeling having completed season two?”
“Do you want my honest answer?” Raye asked with a smirk.
“Absolutely.”
“Like I wanna leave- just kidding.” She giggled after getting a shoulder punch from Jared. “Exhilarating, cause I went into this not knowing whether the fans would like Ivy or not because, you know, late addition, so on and so forth, but she got an amazing reaction.”
“You really worked for that role.” Jensen grinned, nudging Raye.
“Like she actually worked out.” Jared teased, patting her on the shoulder. “Tell ‘em.”
“So,” Raye chuckled, “I got on set around halfway through the filming of season one, and I’m with Diane, the costume executive, and I meet Kripke, and he takes one look at me and goes ‘well…’ Cause Ivy’s a badass, we’re meant to have a-”
“- badass figure.” Hayley and Raye finished together.
“Exactly. So I’m wonderin’ what’s goin’ on and then Kripke just comes out with ‘ok, you’re gonna give us some muscles before your season two debut.” Raye then made a comical expression, which made Jensen laugh. “He gave me six months. I said ‘No, Eric, give me four’. I was that eager to get lean. Yeah, so I buy every exercise equipment thing and new-fangled object because I need to jack up.”
“We were like- are you sure?” Jared cackled, slapping his knee. “Cause she wasn’t an avid exerciser.”
“Now she’s terrifying; she’s a full blown adrenaline junkie, benching insane amounts and doing pull ups like she’s breathing.” Jensen chuckled, hand on her knee. “But we’re proud of her.”
“She’s our adrenaline junkie.”
“I can imagine.” Haley giggled. “And apparently you weren’t actually about to audition for Supernatural, Raye. What changed your mind?”
Raye giggled, running a hand through her hair. “Well, I was actually going to audition for The Devil Wears Prada, which I realise now that I had no chance for if Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt are in it, but Jensen called me up one day and told me about his TV show Supernatural, which he was on with Jared and they were lookin’ for someone with my description to play a character called Ivonne Rainer.
“I’d known Jensen since I’d been his colleague in Dawson’s Creek in ‘03 as CJ’s eventual girlfriend and best friend Autumn and again his love interest Alyssa in Dark Angel, so I was hyped to be on another set with him. I told my agent, Carly, to book me an audition and I turned up in the wardrobe which I thought Ivy would wear. I felt so nervous, but thank the stars that before every audition I start method acting - I terrified the hell out of Carly - and I was already in the zone.”
“Think about it.” Jared smirked, gesturing and Jensen. “If he wasn’t here, she wouldn’t be.”
“Shut up.”
“It’s true and you know it.”
“I’ve got a big head about it.” Jensen winked.
“You two won’t let me live it down.” Raye shook her head with a soft smile. Jensen patted her knee, then took her hand.
“Raye and I had worked together a lot and our on screen chemistry was insane, so I had to get her on Supernatural. And after Dark Angel, of course she’s fit for Ivy, and I can’t see anyone who’d do a better job.”
“Aw, Jen.”
“You’re great at what you do. Don’t sell yourself short, y’hear?”
“Loud and clear.”
“So, guys, what was your favourite scene to film so far?” Hayley asked, smiling a bit at Jensen and Raye.
“These two have done too much talking, so I’ll start.” Jared grinned. “Uh, I’d say the play fight scene in Tall Tales. That one was particularly memorable because Jensen and I are just rolling around, Raye pushes us both off the bed- it’s just an amazing scene.” Jensen and Raye shared a knowing smirk, which caught Jared’s eye. “Uh, the look on their faces probably means they have a shared answer.”
“I think we do.” Raye smirked, and Jensen nodded.
“Wanna say it together?” He snickered.
“On three. One, two-“
“The sex scene.” They chorused, then giggled.
“It’s cause while Jen and I had kissing scenes before, we’d never had a sex scene.” Raye shrugged, looking over at Jensen. “It tested our calibre as actors in the moment.”
“Eric Kripke’s only instruction was go intense.” Jensen grinned, his hand sliding up to Raye’s mid-thigh. “And we had to stay as in sync as possible cause a lot of things could go wrong, but we managed to get through it.”
“The fans loved it too.”
“Oh, they went mad.”
“See, these two have something brewing in the fan base.” Jared smirked, nudging Raye. “The fans call ‘em Raysen.”
“But, sadly, there’s nothin’.”
“Yet.”
“Shut up.”

Original Characters Masterlist [Vol.2]
Hello!
This masterlist feels both sudden yet incredibly expected. Over the years, I have created original characters (OCs) for a variety of fandoms. I adore them all, but many of them were not made with the intention of being more than a one-off story. That led to some stories that I am simply not as proud of as I would like to be. Also, they were written when I was a coward and was terrified of changing known canon. Now that I am much more comfortable doing that, I want to make something that I can feel much prouder of.
This will serve as a new beginning for many of my OCs and as the new official masterlist for all of the stories in those current timelines.
I have remade an OC before. I am not remaking all of them. This is merely a way for me to keep moving forward and not get stuck in one spot.
The remade OCs are the Hannibal OC, the Criminal Minds OC, and the Supernatural OC.
The other OCs will be left as they are, though I have done a lot of work behind the scenes in order to get those characters to flow much better than they did before.
I hope you all enjoy these stories!
If you want to read the original stories for the remade OCs, click here.
If you want to go to the main navigation guide, click here.
Special Note: Some stories feature other original characters outside of the reader. I utilize face claims for such characters as to have physical descriptions to separate them throughout the stories. No such face claims are used for the reader (main oc).

A/N : Well. It's been a while 😅 But if anyone is interested on a new chapter, here it is ! Happy reading :]
Tumblr media
Emily’s POV:
I was still quiet as Jody brought us something to drink.
The welcoming woman had insisted on giving us something other than water but Eva told her that it was totally fine, neither of us wanting to bother her with another kind of drink. But Jody had none of it so my best friend asked for some apple juice, fully knowing that I loved this drink even though she wasn’t a big fan of it. This put an end to this discussion. Jody kindly accepted this answer and left the room to go and get us our drinks, ignoring my best friend’s and I’s proposition to help her.
Anyway, I politely thanked the sheriff when she offered me the glass but stayed pretty silent after that, a bit uncomfortable to be in a stranger’s place like this. But, aware of my discomfort even though she wasn’t at complete ease either, Eva sat down next to me on the couch, her leg touching mine to create some comforting contact between us. I gave her a light smile and got one in return.
I still didn’t know what had happened to her earlier, but whatever it had been, it was gone. Her face was brighter, her eyes showed more enjoyment and her smile was real. I liked that look way more. But even if I was now relaxed to see her like this, the curiosity and desire to know what had happened was still there and I was still wondering what could have gone through her mind to make her feel the way she had felt. I was planning on asking her about it soon.
“You boys want something to drink.?” Jody’s voice put an end to my thoughts and made me come back on earth.
“Sure, some beers would be fine. Thanks Jody.” Dean immediately answered and Sam nodded by his side, offering her an appreciative smile.
When Jody left the room to go get their drinks, I could breathe a bit more easily, the slight uneasiness of being there still making me tense. Sam turned his head towards us and my eyes unintentionally met his before quickly looking away. I didn’t know what it was about that day, but I could hold his gaze even less time than usual. The intensity of his gaze made me feel strange, almost uncomfortable. I wasn’t sure if he knew how his gaze made me feel or if it was even intentional but still, it was there and making me want to hide and disappear. I just wanted him to stop looking at me like this.
Ugh! I needed to stop this. I needed to stop feeling this way when my friend was looking at me. Because that was what Sam was: my friend. And the night before had been nothing but a… a friendly mistake.
“Hum… Aren’t you gonna drive again after this?” Eva asked hesitantly, making me raise my head again and offering me a nice distraction from my thoughts.
The tall girl next to me was looking at Dean who raised his eyebrows at the remark, letting a smirk spread his lips. He chuckled.
“Don’t worry Sweetheart, one beer won’t make me have a car crash.” He declared, full confidence in his voice.
I felt my friend shifting her leg next to me, probably flustered by the nickname. I knew what this word did to her. I slightly smiled at her discreet reaction probably going unnoticed by the brothers and looked at her, waiting for her response but Sam was the one replying to him instead.
“No, but your bad driving could.” He retorted with a sassy grin and I couldn’t help but let a quiet laugh out, approving his answer.
Sam looked at me when the light chuckle escaped my mouth and his lips stretched a bit to lightly show the dimples in his cheeks. Something new shone in his eyes and a part of me interpreted it as pride. But it was probably just happiness that, for once, someone appreciated his humor. He probably wasn’t often supported in his jokes, and certainly not by Dean considering the dark glare the older man was suddenly giving us.
Then, fully ignoring Sam’s eyes on me, I focused on Dean and offered him my best mocking grin. After what he had done to me while driving away from the gas station, I had every right to openly make fun of him. And yet, he should have counted himself lucky that I was only laughing at his brother’s joke, it wasn’t much considering how I could actually piss him off. Actually, after getting on my nerves that morning by basically telling me to get lost in the kitchen when I had only asked him if he was alright; then irritatingly interrupting Eva when she was about to explain me what was bothering her and, finally, making me fall in his stupid car, he deserved to be made fun of. So I wasn’t going to be shy about it.
“Yeah. I still don’t understand how you didn’t crash your oh so precious car yet. Did you get your driver license in a Kinder Surprise or is this thing fake too?” I asked, a proud smile on my face, holding Dean’s gaze that was clearly not amused.
But it didn’t matter if he was finding this amusing or not because I did. And according to the chuckling man next to him, so did Sam.
“You think you’re funny?” Dean asked with a mocking expression, clearly in need of a good comeback. But before I could say anything, Sam opened his mouth again.
“Oh, she is.” The taller man declared and I felt my ego grow bigger, a new pride invading me at the idea of Sam enjoying my humor.
I had never really paid attention to Sam’s reactions at my bickering with his brother before but, apparently, he was enjoying it. When I looked away from Dean to look at him again, his eyebrows were slightly raised, showing his brother how satisfied he was with my answer. And when Sam looked back at me, I could see in his eyes that he meant it. A warm feeling spread inside my chest at the idea of Sam sharing my humor. I hated this feeling as much as I liked it. Or maybe I hated that I liked it. I didn’t know anymore, I didn’t know what to think since the events of the night before. Events that I was desperately trying not to think about.
So why was I bringing it back again?
“Yeah, no, I know. I guess all I’m trying to say is… to be careful?” Eva tried to explain herself, her original comments with the best intention, and thankfully interrupted my thoughts. Preventing Dean from replying anything to my provocation in the process. And when I saw in his eyes the little bit of frustration from it, I couldn’t be happier.
My best friend had helped me win this argument in spite of herself and I loved her even more for that.
“I’m not gonna be arrested for just one beer. And even if I was, I’m in the Sheriff’s good grace.” He proudly replied, closing his eyes and raising his chin in a satisfied gesture.
I rolled my eyes at his face.
“Well, maybe you shouldn’t take it for granted, Dean.” Jody declared when she entered the living room again, holding two beer bottles in her hands. “Eva’s right, I shouldn’t give you this.” She joked, eyeing the bottles then Dean.
I slightly straightened when she reappeared, silently enjoying her picking our side and teasing the older Winchester too. She wore a satisfied grin while Dean’s proud smile fell at her comment and I savored the sight of him being annoyed to be mocked at. I could get used to Dean Winchester being not amused, it was a pleasant and satisfying view.
A teasing smile on her lips, Jody offered Sam a beer he gladly took, thanking her, before sending an amused look to his brother. Then, without adding anything, he walked to the couch, dangerously close to where I was sitting. I tried to hold myself back but my eyes followed his movements for a second, before returning to Jody and Dean, still standing in front of each other. The elder brother turned his palms towards the sky in an annoyed gesture. I felt Sam sit beside me, taking place on the armrest next to me, his very presence sending tiny little sparks all over my back. I gritted my teeth at the feeling, trying to suppress it while he nonchalantly opened the bottle, unaware of the sensation on my back.
Why did he have to sit right there? Couldn’t he just pick an easy chair to sit on?
“Come on, what is this? The Vice Squad?” Dean complained and I internally snorted at his comment. He could be annoying but, as much as I hated it, I used this kind of reply too when someone was on my case when I hadn’t asked for their opinion.
Eva turned towards me for a second, a not-so-suppressed grin on her lips and I understood that she was thinking the same thing, having heard me say it multiples times before. Like when she would judge me for eating sushi with ketchup. Apparently, it was an insult to sushi, but wasn’t eating raw fish the real insult? And everything was better with ketchup!
“Here.” Jody finally declared, slightly rolling her eyes at Dean’s sudden big smile as he grabbed the bottle and walked to the couch too.
The green-eyed man happily sat down next to Eva, making her turn her head towards him as he uncapped his beer bottle with his hand. Jody sat down on the other side of the coffee table, crossing her hands between her slightly opened legs and looked at us.
“Jody, can you tell us more about the case?” Sam’s voice asked next to me and I could almost feel his hot breath landing on the top of my head. I mentally cursed him, keeping my face neutral as Jody looked at him. She took a breath before starting to talk about the reason of our coming.
“Three people went missing. Zach Garrison, Hailey Hammond and Charles Odom. Zach’s a local kid who lives alone in an apartment a bit out of town and was the first one to disappear. It’s his girlfriend, Liv, who reported him missing after a few days without news from him. She came to his apartment and found it empty. That was last week. Then there is Hailey. She works at a bar downtown, the JL Beers, and didn’t come to work for three days before her boss, Harry Werner, started to think that maybe she wasn’t just sick. He didn’t have any news since Tuesday. The last disappearance is Odom, works in public library next town, nobody heard from him for two days now. And today, we found Zach’s body near the river…” Jody explained the first part of the case, filling the boys and us in with what had happened in this town.
It was clear in her voice and expression that she was concerned about those missing persons. Of course it was her job as the sheriff to make sure of the safety of the inhabitants of Sioux Falls but I could feel how seriously she was taking this duty, how finding this man’s dead body was affecting her. But, looking at her, it looked like it was also giving her a certain strength, a powerful desire to found the killer and put them behind bars. Or put the monster down as it seemed to be in this case.
“You mentioned him being drained of his blood.” Sam added and Jody immediately nodded, approving this information.
“Yes. The M.E. didn’t found any stab wounds or bites marks, only a tiny hole in his arms, the size of what seems to be a needle. I checked myself. A few bruises on his body as well but that’s it.” Jody declared and I turned my head towards Eva who was wearing a disgusted expression.
I was repelled by those information but I knew that she and I weren’t uncomfortable for the same reasons. I knew Eva could physically feel and picture the blood being drained from her body, even though it wasn’t truly happening. I, on the other hand, felt almost sick at the idea of a person murdering another one. And I still wasn’t quite sure how I felt when this person wasn’t even human but a monster lurking in the darkness.
“Well, definitely sounds like a djinn. They keep their victims alive for a while until they’ve sucked all the poor guy’s blood.” Dean declared and I felt Eva shudder next to me, hating everything they were saying.
Naturally, I put a hand on her knee to ease her a little and Dean must have felt her discomfort too because he looked at her for a second, his slightly concerned eyes ready to found hers. But Eva had already turned her head to me, offering me a thankful smile at my gesture, missing the hunter’s look.
“Yes, that’s what it seems to be. And I would have loved to not have call you for this, guys, but I never dealt with one of those before and three disappearances in a week… it’s a lot of missing people, already. And I don’t want it to get out of hands.” Jody added, looking like she was sorry to have asked for their help.
“No, no, don’t worry. You were right to call us on this. Djinns are powerful and all it needs is a single touch to trap their victims.” Sam quickly answered and the sheriff nodded, showing how she appreciated them coming to help her. The brothers hadn’t hesitated even for a second, answering her call for help in an instant.
“Thank you for coming.” She replied, a simple smile on her face.
“Of course, Jody.” Dean added before clapping his hands before him and getting up in a grunt. “Well, Sam and I are gonna have take a look at that body, see if we find anything you could have missed. No offense.”
“Sure.” Jody nodded, getting up from her seat as Sam left his too.
My eyes found the wide back of the tall hunter as he walked in front of me and I quickly looked away, refusing to stare at him for even a second. So, focusing on my shoes, I ignored the hunters standing in the living room, preferring admiring my holed Converses than paying too much attention to the obvious muscles on his back.
His back…
Stop it, Emily!
“Aren’t we coming with you two?” Eva suddenly asked, her voice showing how unsure of her own question she was. But it was a great question. The guys were going to inspect the corpse but what about us? Were we going to wait for them here, in a stranger’s home? Because as nice as Jody seemed to be, we didn’t know her at all and even if I didn’t doubt that Eva would have made conversation with our host, I wasn’t feeling really comfortable staying there all day long.
“Hum, no, not really.” Dean started and I tucked my chin at how sure of this he was.
“Why?” I immediately asked before I could even prevent myself from speaking.
“Well, I’m sorry to break it to you but you’re not an FBI agent.” He started and I glared at him at tone he had used. “And even if we wanted to bring you with us, we don’t have any fake badges for you two.” He explained, pinching his lips together when he was finished.
As much as I wanted to argue with him that we could still join them and hated to even think this: he was right. Eva and I had zero experience on impersonating federal agents and considering the look on Sam and Dean’s faces, they weren’t going to teach us any of this that day.
“Dean’s right, you can’t come with us for this.” Sam added, his voice leaving no room for argument and this time, I gave him a look too, frustration invading my body.
And what were we supposed to do during this time?
I hadn’t realized that, by agreeing to come with them on this case, we were going to stay behind, alone, waiting for them to come back. I hated this idea, it made me feel useless.
“Well, I can show you girls around during that time. I’ll have to finish preparing the bedding for your staying, if you don’t mind helping me?” Jody suddenly turned to us, offering a warm smile, as she tried to find a way for us to pass the time while the guys would be gone.
I appreciated how she tried to make us feel like we weren’t just going to wait there, on the couch, for the boys to come back. I wouldn’t have agreed to that either way. It was out of question to let her do everything without lifting a finger. She was welcoming us in her home, the least we could do was help her prepare the things we needed for our stay here. I certainly wasn’t going to let myself be serviced by her, especially when I already felt like I was inviting myself to her house.
So, I nodded, letting her know that we were going to help her, needless to say, and gave her a polite smile.
“Of course, we’ll help you.” Eva quickly replied with a smile.
“By the way, where are Claire and Alex?” Dean asked, furrowing his eyebrows for a second.
Right. The boys had mentioned Jody’s adoptive daughters and since we were here, we hadn’t met any other resident of this house. And now that Dean was mentioning it, I started to wonder how big Jody’s house was to welcome all of us there. I knew for sure that Eva and I could book a motel room for the weekend if it was complicated to find a bed for the two of us. But before I could look further into the situation, Jody answered Dean’s question.
“Claire went to a party with some of her friends and will sleep at one of her friends’. As for Alex… Alex is staying at her boyfriend’s place tonight.” She quickly let out in a breath, as though she wasn’t ready for her own words.
Dean’s eyebrows raised at her sentence, surprise written all over his face as he crossed his arms on his chest.
“Oh. And you’re alright with that?” Dean asked with an amused smile, leaning against the wall next to him.
“Well, no. But I can’t keep her locked in here forever, can I?” Jody replied, her motherhood showing at this sentence.
I internally smiled at how protective over her girls she seemed to be. I didn’t know anything about the woman, yet, but she appeared to be a great mother, worried about them even if she hadn’t been the one giving birth to them.
A movement to the right of Dean caught my attention and my eyes landed on Sam. He looked at the watch wrapped around his wrist, not paying attention to the conversation happening. Something strange happened in my chest at his taciturn behavior and he raised his head, his eyes founding mine. I quickly looked away, not wanting any kind of eye contact with him and stared at Eva instead, listening to Dean and Jody.
“Dean,” Sam interrupted, “I think we should go talk to the coroner.” The hunter declared, pointing at his watch to make his brother aware of the time passing and therefore putting an end to the conversation going on.
“Right.” The older man answered, turning around and bending to grab their duffle bags on the ground in a grunt.
“The two bedrooms at the end of the hall and the bathroom are free.” She simply said and Dean nodded.
“Where can we…?” He started when he straightened, pointing behind him with his thumb.
Jody seemed to understand whatever he was asking because she answered his unfinished question.
“Great, thanks.”
Dean placed one of the bags on his shoulder before throwing the other one to his brother. Sam caught the bag with surprise, a huff leaving his mouth and glared at his brother, annoyance in his eyes. Dean offered him a wide smile, amused by his own actions and turned around, heading to the stairs behind him, his brother following.

Eva’s POV:
As the boys went upstairs, Jody asked us how the road to her place had been.
Emily and I automatically answered that it had all went well, even if, for me, it had been far from it. Holding back tears, trying to breath correctly while fearing looking at the man I had spent the night with wasn’t what I could call ‘a nice trip’. But I had to be honest with myself and say that, now that he and I had talked, I felt much better, lighter, even if I was regretting acting the way I had.
I would apologize about that to him later.
In order to pass the time while the boys were doing whatever they had to do upstairs, Jody asked some basic questions to get to know us. I could feel how nervous and uncomfortable Emily felt, her voice all soft and high as she answered Jody’s questions. She was always like this when in a stranger’s house. Emily wanted to be as polite as possible, trying to make the other person as comfortable and untroubled as they could be, making her presence as less remarkable as possible. So, in order to make it easier for her, I was going to do the talking for the both of us. I didn’t mind answering Jody’s questions and according to my best friend’s look, she was appreciating it.
After a few minutes, the sound of footsteps going down the stairs caught our attention. Bringing my glass to my lips to take a sip of the apple juice, I raised my head towards the sounds, catching the sight of unfamiliar clothes. I frowned for a second when I didn’t see the basic jeans the brothers usually wore and my eyes widened when I took a better look at it.
Once I looked passed the Oxford shoes going down the stairs, I lifted my gaze, going up the dark darted pants covering familiar bowlegs. Then, passing the sight of the dark belt around his waist, my eyes landed on a strong chest hidden behind a bright white shirt, a green tie hanging at his neck and bringing out his already jade orbs, even ten feet away.
A suit.
Dean was wearing a suit. And he looked absolutely incredible in it. Hot and handsome.
Oh my…
Even if I had wanted to hide those thoughts, my body betrayed me as I choked on the beverage I was sipping. Slamming my glass on the table, I started to cough loudly, choking on the damn apple juice and the sudden amazing beauty thrown at me. Covering my mouth with a hand and resting the other one on my chest, I tried to breath properly, couching even more as some juice tried to leave my lungs. I felt Emily slightly patting my back in a comforting gesture, trying to make me breath again and I finally calmed down, clenching my jaws in concentration so it wouldn’t come back.
With watery eyes, I straightened, feeling everyone’s gaze on me – for obvious reasons – and I tried to avoid every one of them. But as though they had a mind on their own, my eyes naturally found Dean and his slightly pleased smile. I gulped, my heart hammering in my chest at the near-death experience and the sight of him. I took a deep breath, trying to find my composure back under his intense gaze and hardly swallowed when he kept staring at me, like no one else was in the room with us.
“You’re okay there, Sweetheart?” He asked, a satisfied tone in his voice and his eyebrows slightly raised. All of his face showed how proud and contented he felt to get this reaction out of me, as though he was forgetting for a second that we were supposed to keep the thing between us discreet.
“Yeah…. hum… Wrong pipe.” I tried to explain with a hoarse voice, slightly patting my chest to try and clear it out.
Dean gave a me a little smile, not buying my lie and I cleared my throat again. The more I was going to look at him the worst it was going to be, so, I turned my head to my best friend. Already looking at me, Emily sent me a look, silently making me understand her thoughts. Thoughts that I knew meant ‘Wrong pipe? Really? There is absolutely no other reasons behind you choking on apple juice?’. Of course there was another reason! So many other reasons.
Trying to avoid her knowing look, I turned my head towards the brothers. Briefly taking another look at Dean, my eyes fell on Sam. The tallest brother was wearing a dark blue suit, a plaid tie of a lighter blue resting on his chest and even if, to me, no one could compete with Dean’s look, I had to admit that Sam looked incredibly good too! He objectively looked hot and knowing my best friend, I would have been surprised if she didn’t thought so too.
At first, she refused to look at me, probably feeling my gaze on her but I saw the tips of her ears reddening. I smiled. Emily had become a master in hiding when she blushed, literally swallowing it down, but she still hadn’t managed to stop the tips of her cute little ears from reddening. And this was exactly what I needed to know how she felt.
I must have analyzed his looks for a second too long because Sam narrowed his eyes at me when I looked at his face, his brows furrowing. Or maybe he was suspicious about my sudden choking, seeing right through me and my reaction at his brother’s sight. I had already felt his suspicious eyes on me during the whole ride there but I had tried to ignore those, acting as natural as possible to prevent him from finding out what his brother and I had done the night before.
Hoping to not look too weird, I gave Sam a slightly embarrassed smile for staring at him like this and turned to my best friend again.
Oh, same here, Em’, same here.
“Alright, we gotta go. The sooner we see the body, the sooner we can search for the others.” Sam declared, not forgetting for a second the reason why they were here in the first place.
Dean nodded next to him and my stomach warmed up when I looked at him again. The green-eyed hunter had his arms crossed before him, his suit fitting his biceps perfectly and I took a deep breath. I had felt those under my hands, skin-to-skin. I knew what he looked like under those clothes. And the more I looked at him, the more I felt like everyone in the room knew that.
“Yah, we’ll let you know if we find anything.” Dean added and looked at me.
I wondered if he knew the affect he had on me, if he could see it as much as I could feel it. But from the look in his eyes, he seemed to, a discreet smile present at the corner of his lips.
The brothers checked their fake FBI ideas and I wondered what aliases they had chosen this time.
“You guys are not gonna leave on an empty stomach.” Jody declared standing up, the mother in her showing at her comment. I smiled, loving that they had someone like her in their life. They always took care of each other and it warmed my heart to see that Jody took care of them when they came visit her.
“We’re gonna grab a bite on the way, don’t worry.” Dean replied, offering her a big smile and she sent him a disapproving look. Next to him, Sam gave her a sorry smile too, showing that he agreed with his brother.
Before she could say anything else, the brothers turned around and headed to the front door.
“We’ll keep you updated!” Dean shouted, raising a hand in the air in a waving gesture and I couldn’t help but let a quiet snort out at his behavior.
The hunter took a few more steps and my eyes lowered on their own until they found his backside. I had often stolen a few glances at his behind but I had to say that those pants were doing real justice to his ass. But before I could think more of it, he disappeared at the corner of the living room, putting an end to my slightly inappropriate thoughts.
The door closed behind them and Jody let a sigh out, probably a bit frustrated with them leaving like that. The woman turned to us, a tight smile on her face and put her hands on her hips. I smiled at her, understanding her feeling and she gave us a warm look.
“Well. I’ll show you girls your room then.” She declared and I nodded, turning my head towards Emily who seemed tenser than before now that we were alone with the Sheriff. She was still going to need some time to adjust to being in her home, I knew that. But I hoped that it was soon going to be easier for her because Jody seemed to be a very nice woman.
“Sure.” I replied, looking at Jody again.
“Alright, follow me.” She asked and headed to the stairs, waiting for us to grab our bags and join her.
Glancing at Emily, I offered her a friendly smile and winked at her, a gesture she seemed to appreciate, and took the first step towards the short-haired woman.

Emily’s POV :
“Since the girls aren’t here I could have give you a room each, but I know Claire doesn’t like when someone goes into her bedroom, not even me. And if I don’t let either of you sleep in her room, it wouldn’t be fair to let you use Alex’s. I’ve heard you both have siblings, I’m sure you know what it’s like.” Jody explained in the hallway upstairs and I saw perfectly what she meant. Florian and I often bickered about who had more soda in their glass, equality was everything in our house. So, I understood what she meant.
Eva let a light chuckle at Jody’s words and the woman slightly turned around to look at us. I nodded.
“Yes, a little.” I replied, my voice higher than usual, shyer even, and I rolled my eyes at myself when she turned around.
Why was I always taking this high, shy and annoyingly honeyed voice when I was with a stranger? Ugh! Why couldn’t I just be natural? Plus, Jody seemed to be a nice woman, there was no reason to feel uncomfortable around her.
“I gotta say, living with those two… it’s not always a piece of cake. Claire is… she has her temper.” She admitted and I felt myself be sporting a polite smile even though she couldn’t see me.
Unable to respond anything to that, empty of any kind of answer to give her, Eva was the one speaking this time.
“Well… From what Sam and Dean told us, you seem to be handling it very well.” She declared and I could feel her smile in her voice. It was true that the brothers had spoken highly of her and from the look of it, she seemed to be true to her reputation.
The woman slightly turned around, looking at us behind her shoulder and smiled, clearly appreciating the comment.
“Thanks. I’m not perfect for sure but I’m doing my best.” She said and continued to walk through the hallway.
Jody’s house was big. We hadn’t seen every corner of this place but even from outside it was huge. Her living room was bigger than Eva’s bedroom and mine gathered; and our apartment was okay. And now that we were walking in the hallway upstairs, I wondered how many rooms were available in her place considering we had already walked pass two bedrooms. Claire’s and Alex’s from what I had understood. Taking a few more steps, two other doors were closed on each sides of the corridor. Another one was at the end of the hallway, a sign indicating that it was the bathroom pinned on the white wooden door.
Then, Jody came to a halt in front of the closed door on the left.
“You girls can stay in this room.” Jody started while opening the door and taking a few steps in the room. Eva followed her and I was the last one to enter. “I hope that you don’t mind sharing a bed, I assumed that it would be okay.” She said, turning to us and waiting for our reaction.
“It’s no problem for us, don’t worry.” Eva answered with a smile.
“Absolutely.” I timidly agreed and mentally cursed myself for appearing so… honeyed. It was one thing to feel a bit uncomfortable around Jody, but I hated to not act like myself like that.
“But maybe it won’t be the case for the boys.” Eva tried to joke at the idea of Sam and Dean sharing a bed and Jody chuckled at her comment.
“Well, they won’t have a choice.” She declared, not leaving room for them to argument with her and I liked how confident of it she was. And Eva was right, I wasn’t sure either that the brothers were going to be thrilled with the idea of sharing a bed with each other. We knew that they had slept in the same room basically all their life but I didn’t know if they often slept in the same bed.
“Alright, so there are some sheets just here.” Jody explained, opening a wardrobe and taking some in her hands and Eva hurried to take them from her, placing them on the undone bed. When she turned around, Eva smiled at me and I gave her a slight grin in return.
“You have some blankets just here in case you’re cold during the night.” The Sheriff pointed at an upper shelf of the furniture. “And feel free to hang your clothes in there too, it’s your space.” She explained and I appreciated how she was welcoming us in her house.
Eva nodded and I thanked Jody with a smile. My roommate put down her bag on the floor, next to the bed and I did the same, placing mine right next to hers.
“There are some towels in the bathroom for you two, under the sink, if you wanna take a shower. The changing of bath mode to the shower mode is a bit difficult but the trick is to slightly push it on the right.” She explained with a smile. Then the tallest woman started to walk towards the exit of the room, making us turn around to keep our eyes on her.
“I don’t know if you girls are hungry bu-” She didn’t get to finish her sentence as her phone rang. Jody took her phone out of her pocket and gave us an apologetic smile.
“Excuse me.” She told us, gesturing to the call she was receiving and we made her understood that she could answer it without any problem. She gave us a quick smile before answering to a certain Scott and left the room, disappearing in the hallway.
Turning to my best friend, Eva was playing with her hands, looking around the little bedroom we were in. The bedroom was small and cozy, the window opposite to the door was allowing the sunlight to get it and shine on the warm colored bedroom. The huge wooden wardrobe was placed opposite to the bed and created a very welcoming place even though it was clear that it wasn’t used often.
A few seconds later, Jody came back in the room, ending her call.
“Sorry, an agent of mine just called. One of our regular visitors is causing them some troubles and our new guy won’t be able to handle him alone. I have to go back to the precinct and give them a hand.” She quickly explained, slightly sighing as though it was bothering her to leave us.
“Of course, Jody. You have other things to do.” Eva told her and I nodded.
“I would have loved to show you around a little more but I really have to go. I’m sorry to leave you like this, girls.” Jody declared and I slightly shook my head at her.
“No worries, Jody, it was already really nice of you to show us your house.” I told her and she gave me a kind smile.
“Alright.” She suddenly said, clapping her hands before her in an attempt to get into action. “I don’t know how long I’ll be gone but from what I’ve understood, you two didn’t eat either. So, there are some leftovers in the fridge if you want, feel free to heat them up. But if you’d rather eat something outside, which I’d understand, Botski’s Bar and Grill in town is a great place. I recommend it to you.” Jody explained and the idea of eating her food while she wasn’t even being here bothered me. A lot. So, I didn’t know yet what Eva thought of this but to me, this diner sounded good.
The Sheriff exited the bedroom and with a move of her head indicated us to come with her. So we did and followed her in the hallway while she continued to explain us our options while she was gone.
“I’m gonna give you two a spare key to the house so you can come and go as you wish.” She suddenly declared as she went down the stairs, making me mentally freeze.
This woman didn’t know us even the slightest and she was entrusting us with the key to her home. How could she so fearlessly let us stay here in the first place was surprising me but the idea of leaving two strangers in my house and allowing them to go back and forth without minding at all was impressing me.
She was giving us a trust we didn’t even earned.
“Jody… are you sure? I mean, we would understand if you’d rather have us waiting here for you to come back. Or wait in town and you locking behind us when you leave.” Eva tried to say as if she had read my mind. She probably wasn’t feeling totally comfortable with this situation either and found the idea of staying at her place without her a bit much for a first meeting. But Jody didn’t seem to agree as she turned her head towards us once she reached the end of the stairs.
“I’m not gonna ask for you to sit and wait here while I’m at work. I want you to feel comfortable here so, if you’d rather spend the day outside, go. I’m just asking you to lock after you when you leave.” She declared with seriousness and I felt myself nodding at her words.
The tall woman continued walking until she disappeared behind a corner, the sound of a drawer opening reaching my ears. Eva stopped at the end of the stairs in sync with me and we looked at each other, silently agreeing with the fact that she was being incredibly nice to us. I was amazed by people’s kindness sometimes. And never knew how to react to it. Then, my best friend gulped as though she was thinking about something bothering her. I raised my eyebrows, trying to understand what was suddenly on her mind and she took a step towards me.
“Do you think that it’s wise to leave this house? I mean, with the… the monster in town and Dean and Sam gone… If they come back and we aren’t here… I don’t know, I don’t think they’d want us to leave without them.” Eva said, letting her worries out.
And I understood that she felt this way, Eva had always been one to ask for permission when I would rather ask for forgiveness. Even if, in most cases, forgiveness wasn’t even to ask. And in this situation, I neither wanted to ask for permission or forgiveness, I didn’t want to patiently wait for them just because they could be a little upset about us leaving a place they had left us alone at in the first place. At most, I would have stayed there without arguing if it had been what Jody has asked us, after all it was her house. But apparently, as surprising as it was to me, she was willing to let us decide whether we wanted to stay here or not while she was gone.
“Well, you’re not prisoners here, so you can do whatever you want. And if Sam or Dean have a problem with it, they’ll deal with me. They can’t expect you to just wait here for them to be finished with their work while you do nothing. So feel free to visit the town if you want and go eat something at this dinner. You’ll see, Gary is a nice guy.” Jody declared before I could even reply anything to my best friend. And how I loved this woman’s answer.
I could see Eva’s doubt in the way she breathed, a little out of words, and the way she slightly moved in discomfort but I, on the other hand, felt more comfortable around Jody than since the beginning of our meeting. I didn’t know what I expected of her, and to say she hadn’t scared me a little with her appearing knowing eyes would have been a lie, but in this moment it felt like we were sharing the point of view on things. And I liked this, the idea of neither of the boys having to say anything about what we did.
A smile appeared on my face in spite of myself and Jody must have seen it because she gave me one back. Giving me a single nod in understatement, she confirmed her words, silently saying that she was having our back.
“So, here the keys, make sure to lock when you leave.” She repeated and took a few steps towards us, handing me the key.
Quickly stealing a glance at Eva, I took the spare key and smiled at Jody.
“Thank you.” I simply said, my voice more natural than before and I mentally thanked myself for this.
“And I’m gonna give you my number, just in case.” She said, walking to the coffee table. Jody grabbed a pen and scribbled something quickly on a piece of paper. Once she was done, she came back to us.
“Here.” This time, she handed the object to Eva who gently took it, reading the numbers on it. “There is a bus stop down the road on the left, it can get you downtown in a short ten minutes. Feel free to come back whenever you want. All I’m asking is for you to be careful and call me if you there is anything.” She declared with a smile and put on her jacket before leaving her house without worrying for a second.
Eva’s POV :
She shouted to us to make ourselves at home before she shut the front door, leaving us standing in her living room before Eva or I – even if I was actually agreeing with her on most points – could argue with her. I turned towards my best friend who was staring at the closed front door, speechless about what had just happened. I, on the other hand, felt myself slightly smiling.
Yeah. Maybe I was going to like this woman, after all.
Staring at the opened messages section on my phone, doubt invaded my mind.
I was thorn between letting Dean know that we had left Jody’s place and taking the risk of him not liking it and the option of not telling him anything, enjoying my afternoon with Emily but risking him maybe being angrier that I hadn’t told him. I knew this mental debate was stupid because I was a grown up, so was Emily, and we could do whatever we wanted. It wasn’t like they had given us order to stay in Jody’s living room. But still, it felt wrong, like I had to let him know. But Emily surely didn’t agree with that, her free will was really important to her and she never let anyone tell her what to do. I, on the contrary, would rather have people telling me what I should do, it was easier and so mind freeing for me.
I knew how stupid that sounded but I couldn’t help it. I didn’t want to have to argue with Dean if I hadn’t texted him when I should have.
Ugh, why was I creating problems to myself like this? I could just live my life, I didn’t have to justify myself. And he wouldn’t be mad if I was being careful, right? Right?
“You’re not listening to me at all, are you?” Emily’s voice suddenly reached my brain and I raised my head to look at her, eyebrows high on my forehead in confusion.
“What?” I asked, coming back to Earth and to the diner we were sitting at, the sound of forks on plates and people talking filling my ears. Emily glared at me and I pinched my lips at her expression.
I hadn’t even registered her talking to me.
“Sorry.” I apologized, feeling bad for not paying attention to what she was telling me.
My best friend let a sigh out and I quickly locked my phone as though I had something to hide and straightened, placing the device next to my legs.
“Are you texting him?” Emily asked, slightly raising her eyebrows and I mimicked her expression.
“Who?” I asked, playing dumb even though I had no reason to lie about that, we both always knew who him was. At this Emily rolled her eyes, not believing me, and I gave her a little pinched smile.
“You know who. You don’t have to tell him where you are all the time, you know. I mean, like Jody said, we’re free and adults, we can take care of ourselves. Hell, we’ve been taking care of ourselves before we even knew them.” The blue-eyed girl in front of me said and I knew she was right. But something in me didn’t feel right if I didn’t tell him about this.
“I know, I know…” I sighed, my eyes landing on the menu I hadn’t even looked at yet. “I just don’t want him to be mad at me because I didn’t keep him updated about where we’ve been.” I explained and Emily took a deep breath, understanding my fear.
It was always the same thing with me, I didn’t want people to get mad at me. And after years of knowing each other, Emily knew that very well. When she had no problems speaking her mind and standing up to people, all I wanted was to disappear, avoid any conflicts and apologize for weeks. We didn’t deal the same way in those situation and where she found some kind of stimulation in it, I only saw danger and insecurity.
“Yeah, I think she can be pretty scary.” I joked and my best friend nodded rapidly.
“Well, the thing you need to understand in your little head is that no one can be mad at you. You’re just frustrating like that.” Emily declared and I let a little laugh out at her words. “And why would he be mad, huh? We don’t have to report him our every actions. So if he has a problem with us being outside and eating, he’ll get through me. And Jody, apparently.” She continued, a bit of amusement in the end of her sentence and I smiled, loving the sound of that.
I could always count on her even when I was being a coward and kept a low profile when I was caught red-handed, just like I did in high school. When we were being in the wrong because we were talking about everything but the class, Emily never feared the teachers, explaining herself without being disrespectul and finding a way to avoid us some blame while I would look at my feet and pray for the ground to swallow me. So if Emily was capable of facing her teachers back at high school, I had no doubt she wouldn’t have any trouble facing Dean.
“Right? I mean, she seems nice and I don’t wanna talk badly of her, but it looks like she can see right through you without even trying.” Emily said, clear in her voice that it wasn’t something she was enjoying.
“Do you think it’s a mom power or something? Like, the moment you become a mother you can see through people you don’t even know just by looking at them?” I wondered at loud and Emily made a face, shaking her head at me.
“God, I hope not. My plan is to avoid eye-contact and proximity with her.” She declared and I laughed, knowing that it wasn’t even a joke. Of course she was going to try and avoid Jody at all cost, probably fearing questions she didn’t want to answer to.
I crossed my arms and rested them on the table.
“I see, staying polite without being too close. This way you won’t have to answer to the least personal question possible. Good plan.” I joked and she chuckled.
“Exactly! It’s already embarrassing enough that I have this stupid voice every time I talk to her. I’m not gonna go and see if she can figure out everything about me. I won’t do this to myself.” She declared, shaking her head and I knew she meant it. She truly hated this sweetened voice even if it wasn’t that terrible actually.
“Hey, there’s nothing wrong in what you do and you really don’t sound as bad as you think. You’re just being really polite and that’s nice! The carefulness in your voice can be a bit surprising when we actually know you, but that’s all.” I explained and she let out an annoyed sound, throwing her head back to rest against the back of the booth.
“Ugh, I wanna punch myself every time I hear myself talking.” She grumbled and I chuckled.
“It’s really not that bad. Just be your amazing self and Jody will adore you.” I truthfully told her with a wink and she rolled her eyes.
“Yeah, right.” She replied, clear in her voice that she didn’t believe me much.
Before I could argue with her, a young man approached us, a notebook and a pen in his hand. A huge smile plastered in his face he seemed incredibly sympathetic and I grinned back, appreciating the kindness that emanated from him. Passing a hand through his dark hair, he stopped at our table, ready to take our order.
“Hi, what can I get you two?” He asked and my eyes widened for a second at his question.
Lost in my thoughts, I had totally forgotten to read the menu and even though my stomach was eating itself from the inside, I didn’t know what it craved.
“Huuuh…” I started, quickly grabbing the menu before me and scanning the list of food. “Sorry, I haven’t chosen yet, but I’ll be quick.” I apologized and he chuckled.
“It’s alright, I can come back in a few minutes.” He explained but I shook my head, I was starving and wouldn’t take long to choose what was going to fill my empty stomach.
“Em’, you can order if you made your choice.” I told her, trying to gain more time to go trough the menu.
I hadn’t seen the bagels options yet but if there were it was evident that she had picked that. She could eat those for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was safe to say it was one of her favorite food ever. And I agreed, it was a nice choice.
“Alright. I’ll take the veggie bagel with an apple juice, please.” Emily ordered and I raised my head at her.
Of course.
“Bagels sound good. I’ll take the Indiana one with a coke, please.” I finally ordered with yet another apologizing smile.
“Those are pretty good, I hope you’ll like them.” Our waiter told us, scribbling our order before looking at us again. “French fries or salad with those?” He asked and I took the greasy side order while Emily favored the more healthy one.
Once our waiter left, my stomach growled and I put my hand on it, trying to silence it.
“God, I’m starving.” I declared, comfortably resting against the booth.
“You don’t say! You didn’t eat anything all day, of course you’re hungry!” Emily replied and I shook my head at her.
“That’s not true, I ate a Twix bar earlier.” I answered even though I knew it wasn’t what she meant. And as I expected, my best friend rolled her eyes at me.
“Yeah, I’m fine now. Sorry for earlier, I didn’t wanna bring the mood down like that.” I apologized, lowering my head a little.
“Well you didn’t eat anything else than a Twix bar.” She playfully glared at me. “By the way, how are you feeling now? You seem better but, how are you?” She gently asked and my stomach tightening at her question.
Of course she had noticed it, everyone had, but I somehow wished that it hadn’t stayed on her mind.
It was the truth. Now that I had talked with Dean, I felt lighter and not like I was ready to cry if someone asked me what was going on. But I still felt a bit bad for being so quiet and bringing such a thick tension in the car. It hadn’t been anyone’s fault but me and my stupid brain.
“No, no, don’t worry about that. I’m glad if you feel better now, though. I am. You wanna tell me what was bothering you?” Emily asked both curious to know what had happened, I couldn’t blame her, and concerned about how I felt.
Yes. And I wanna tell you about my night with him and what I agreed to. I wanna tell you everything. I wanna tell you about him. I have so much to tell you.
But I couldn’t. I had agreed to not say a thing about Dean and I for the moment and the more the day went by, the less I felt like I could do it. How was I suppose to not tell the one person I said everything to that I had spent the night with the guy? And as much as it could be a bit excited to keep it a secret, it didn’t feel as right as it could have.
“It was just stupid and not important.” I tried, torn between telling her everything and avoiding this conversation.
Emily tilted her head to the right and raised her eyebrows, her face showing that she didn’t believe me in the slightest. And I knew that, she had seen my reddened eyes after all.
“When are you finally gonna stop beat around the bush with me and tell me right away what you wanna say?” She asked, a bit annoyed and I couldn’t blame her.
“I know… I just feel stupid about it.” I told her and it was the truth. Even if it was over, I still felt guilty and like an idiot for acting and thinking that way in the first place.
The brown haired girl in front of me stared at me, patience in her eyes, ready to let me talk about it if I wanted. And I wanted to. I always felt better when I talked to her about what was bothering or had bothered me. Talking to Emily was liberating and even if at first I was reluctant to do so, not wanting to annoy her with my stupid thoughts, I always felt better after telling her.
“It’s just my stupid brain who did stupid things.” I declared and she furrowed her eyebrows at me, shaking her head.
“Stop saying that.”
But I ignored her comment and continued.
“My day started well and I just… I don’t know, I started to see and feel things the wrong way. I misinterpreted that one little thing and just overthought from there. I mean, you know me.” I explained, letting a little laugh out at the end of my sentence and Emily gave me a light smile.
And it was the truth. A bit vague and unclear but still the truth. Everything had went well until I had started to think.
“I bet I can’t know about that ‘one little thing’, can I? It was about Dean, wasn’t it?” She suddenly asked and I felt my eyes widening at her question. “I’m sorry to break it to you but we could all see it was about him.” She said, a smile at the corner of her lips and I let a dramatic sigh out.
So much for keeping it a secret.
“Yeah… yes, it was about him. And it was stupid but we talked about it and it’s all good now, we’re all good.” I told her, feeling the easy smile on my face.
“When all of you just abandoned me in the car?” She asked, a bit of contrariety in her voice. It was right that I hadn’t seen it that way, I had actually selfishly didn’t think about it but it was true that at one point we were all in the gas station but Emily.
“Yeah… I’m sorry about that too.” I gritted my teeth and she let a chuckle out.
“No, it’s fine. I know that I’m the butt of this group’s joke.” She accused with humor and I lightly laughed at her falsely annoyed face.
Before I could add anything, the dark-haired waiter came back with our plates and widely smiled at us. Straightening a little to give him the space he needed to put the dishes on the table, I smiled at him in return.
“Here are is the Indiana bagel” He said, placing my order in front of him, then he put Emily’s in front of her too. “And the veggie one.”
“Thank you.” Emily and I replied in sync and he wished us a good appetite before leaving us to our meals.
“God, I’m starving!” Emily quickly declared, immediately grabbing her bagel and taking a huge bite of it, humming in pleasure when she started chewing.
I laughed, loving how she always had the same reaction and feeling when she ate a bagel. Closing her eyes and savoring every part of this food. I picked mine up and took a bite, my stomach already thanking me for finally putting actual food in it.
“Well, huh, yah. I mean, did you see him? This suit really, well, suited him. And with the green tie it was… phew!” I told her and she let a laugh out, a wide smile on her face at my words.
“Hum, speaking of Dean, care to explain me what happened to you earlier? Had some troubles drinking?” She teased and I almost chocked on my food, feeling myself blushing at the memory.
Hardly swallowing, I put my bagel down and stared at her. I couldn’t tell her yet about what had actually happened between he and I, but she knew what I thought of him, how I saw him so there was no reasons denying it. And thinking about it, it could actually free me.
Just thinking about it did things to my stomach but I knew for sure that I hadn’t been the only one who wasn’t left indifferent when they had came down the stairs. So, raising my eyebrows, I grinned in advance at my future sentence.
“Like you didn’t blush when Sam appeared as Mister fake FBI agent.” I teased and Emily raised her eyebrows high on her forehead, her face trying show me she had no idea what I was talking about but unfortunately for her I had seen her traitorous ears.
“Nope. Didn’t look at him, I don’t even know what he looks like, actually.” She feigned to not know, taking another bite of her bagel and I rolled my eyes.
“Oh. Well, that’s a shame because he looked really hot in his suit, really highlighted his chest and shoulders.” I declared, casually picking a french fry and dipping it in my mayonnaise, giving a knowing look to my best friend.
Locking eyes with her, she glared at me, not amused by my teasing but I couldn’t help my grin from widening.
“But weren’t you too busy looking at Dean, anyway? I’m sure you have more thoughts about it. I mean, you’re the one who chocked on your drink, not me.” She said back, a satisfied grin on her lips and took my glass of coke to have a sip.
Taking another bite of my food, I nodded, not denying it. Of course I had had troubles drinking, and everyone had been there to witness it.
“Well, I wasn’t expecting to see this. It took me by surprise, okay?” I defended myself and she let a little laugh out. “And I’m just telling you, you missed something with Sam. He looked really, really good in this suit.” I emphasized with a smirk and Emily shook her head, sipping at her drink this time.
“Meh. I don’t think so. He doesn’t even look that good actually.” She lied, not even meeting my eyes anymore.
“Oh yeah?” I raised my eyebrows and she nodded, putting her glass down.
“Yep.” She stated and continued eating.
I hummed, not believing her but finally stopping my teasing. I couldn’t force her to reveal anything she didn’t want to, even less admit anything about Sam. She had commented something about this man was when she either had been drunk off her ass at the bar or after their date. So, I decided to let it go, suddenly remembering that this teasing could back fire and that she could ask questions too. Questions I couldn’t answer to. Questions about the night before.
I took another one of my hot french fries and surprisingly Emily spoke up again.
“Plus, he made a poor choice in tie. Really questionable taste.” She declared, saying this like she was saying it had rained the day before when she was actually admitting she had looked at Sam Winchester. And had even taken a good look at him to know she hadn’t liked his tie at all.
“Ah! So you did look!” I replied with a huge smile I could feel in my cheeks.
But quickly, Emily faked a frown, shaking her head at me as though I had said something absurd.
“No…” She poorly lied, not even trying to hide it correctly. “Shut up.”
But her attempt to refute what she had just let slip was her way to admit that she had indeed looked at him – and potentially enjoyed it – without really admitting it either. We both knew that she didn’t just let slip things like those, it was an unspoken rule between us, if she ‘innocently’ said something like this, it was because she wanted to tell me about it. And it didn’t matter that she took it back right after. It meant that she was finally admitting it to herself, even if it was just a little bit, and it was the good step I hoped she would take.
So, in order to try and not make her regret saying this, I nodded, taking in her words and grabbed another fry.
“Oh okay. I thought so. My bad, then.” I declared, both of us clearly knowing what it all truly meant.
Turning her bagel in her hands, she shrugged.
“Nah, don’t worry, we all make mistakes.” She replied in a mocking tone before taking another bite, the conversation stopping there with a chuckle from me.
She hadn’t said anything too revealing, I knew that, but it was something. And I started to wonder if something had happened to change her mind or if she had just decided that she could finally admit a few things to me and to herself concerning the giant hunter. After all, she had been a bit strange too this morning…

Emily’s POV :
Ugh…
Why did I have to say that! I shouldn't have said anything. Why did I have to make a comment on his stupid tie!
I should have just kept this to myself, continue to pretend I hadn’t had a single thought when seeing him in this damn suit. Actually, I shouldn’t even have looked at him at all, it would have had solved everything. But I couldn’t helped myself and looked, internally blushing and screaming at him. Or at myself. I didn’t know even anymore. I wanted to yell at everyone, at everything. I wanted to yell at him to ask him why. Why had he kissed me? Why did make me fe… And of course Eva had to look at him too!
Couldn’t she have just stare at Dean and not pay attention to Sam at all, forgetting herself that he existed?
But contradictorily I also kinda wanted to tell her.
I wanted to tell her a lot of things, but at the same time I didn’t want to. I wanted her advice to try and clear my head, to put some orders upstairs after what had happened. I needed some guidance on what it all meant. If it meant anything, actually. I didn’t even know if I wanted it to. But I also didn’t want to tell her, I wanted to keep it to myself, I didn’t want to say something that wasn’t true. Saying it out loud made it real and I far from wanted that. I was aware that my secret and thoughts would be safe with her. I knew that if I told her that Sam had… she would just have been excited for me.
Why did he have to enter my life?
And I knew that I could tell her that I had indeed looked at him as a fake FBI agent and that I had indeed noticed the way his shirt stuck to his torso and how the jacket revealed his back muscles. And that I had had some shameful thoughts about it but I wasn’t ready to fully let them out yet, not to Eva and hardly to myself.
Why was everything so hard?
I was just tired. The day before had been full of strong emotions, things had been done, words had been said and I simply felt drained. I merely wanted to be home, put all of this aside, get away from Sam for the day and have a quiet evening wrapped in my flannelette. I just wanted to stop thinking. I needed a break from all those emotions but couldn’t and some new ones more were being added now. Because on top of all of this, we were meeting someone new and slept in her house. And as much as Jody seemed to be a great woman, I wasn’t natural around her and feared what she could interpret; making the option of staying be Eva’s side for the whole week-end the best and smartest choice. And maybe if I stayed next to her long enough she was going to tell me whatever she was hiding from me.
“I’m freezing my ass off. I hate Winter so much.” Eva complained, wrapping her yellow scarf a bit more tightly around herself.
“Okay. So, ten more minutes and we’re there.” Eva’s voice brought me back to Earth and I saw her looking at the digital maps in her right hand.
Deciding to take a look around Sioux Falls before getting back to Jody’s house, Eva and I had walked down the diner’s street until we turned at the corner of a movie theater. This town seemed nice, not too crowded but still active, the many shops in the streets still opened and running. Taking a few more steps before turning to the left, we came across a park and Eva informed me that it could be a way cut through town and get back to Jody’s place faster. I agreed to this idea, even though I would have loved to spend more time outside before facing everyone again, and followed her through the bare trees. Some children and families played at the playground next to a switched off fountain and I lightly smiled at the scene, loving the sounds of the kids laughing as they chased each others.
“I’m so not a Winter girl. Just because I’m born in this season doesn’t mean I like it. I like your month. May is great. The nature is coming back to life, the sun shows itself again and it’s not night at four in the afternoon. I can’t wait to put my t-shirts back on.” She explained and I let a chuckle out.
“It’s a bit ironic for a Winter girl.” I told after a quiet snort.
Eva turned around, her head buried in her shoulders in an attempt to keep her warmth. She looked like a turtle trying to get back into her shell.
While Eva hated Winter, I loved it. The hot chocolates in bed, cozy under a plaid and watching a Christmas movie. Christmas magic in the air and the best holiday on the way. And I never minded that the setting of the sun was earlier than the rest of the year, I actually liked it.
Shivering loudly, Eva tightened her coat around her before looking at her phone again, checking how far from Jody’s house we were. I followed her through the park, trying to keep my mind from thinking too much – or at all, really – when she glanced at me, frowning.
“You’re okay?” She asked, a bit of concern in her voice.
“Yep. You?” I immediately replied, slightly raising my eyebrows to make it appear as though her question was surprising. Eva looked at me for a second too much, narrowing her eyes a little.
“Okay… I just wanted to make sure you were.” She half-accepted and didn’t push the topic, probably feeling that I wasn’t going to talk about it.
I didn’t even know myself if I wanted to talk about it or not, or even what to say on the matter. I just wanted to make it through the week-end.
Tumblr media
Back to Jody’s place, I appreciated the warmth of her house and Eva let a loud and satisfied sigh out, clearly enjoying too. Quickly, my best friend hung her coat on the coat rack and took mine to put it there too. Then she locked the door behind us, putting the keys on the small piece of furniture next to the front door so Jody could open it when she got back.
I was amazed on how comfortable she was in this stranger’s place, already finding her feet somehow while I didn’t want to disturb anything in the house. But, the more Eva moved around the house, not sneaking into Jody’s stuff but simply looking around to discover her home and trying to get familiar with the place and the woman, the more I was starting to get used to the unknown house myself. At least slightly more comfortable.
After getting ourselves a glass of water, Eva reminded me that we had to make the beds for us and the brothers, so we went upstairs and searched through the wardrobe to get everything we needed. Standing up on the mattress, holding the quilt above my head while Eva was pulling at the quilt cover around it, we continued our conversation on the last Marvel movie that had just been released and how we would have to go see it back home. Apparently a certain Tom Hardy would make an appearance in it and I suddenly understood why she wanted to see this new movie so bad. Once we were done with our bed and were getting the pillows ready too, Eva’s phone rang, making her drop the pillow in her hands. The tall girl answered the call and brought the cellphone to her ear.
“Hey.” She started with a small smile on her lips. “Yeah we’re here… Oh right, okay, I’m coming.” She ended the call and turned to me, putting her phone back in her pocket.
“They’re here.” She declared and I followed her down the stairs, mentally preparing myself to face Sam.
Oh, how I hated feeling this way. So ridiculous.
Get it together, Emily!
Eva’s POV :
“Jody isn’t here?”
Was the first question Dean asked when he entered her house and I explained the brothers that an agent of hers had called and that they needed her help on something else. The Winchesters nodded and parted ways, Sam heading to the living room to sit on the sofa and already getting his laptop out of his bag; Dean on the other hand, walked directly towards the kitchen and I heard the fridge’s door open and close. A few seconds later, he came back with a beer bottle in his hand, uncapping it with his right hand. I liked seeing this. I didn’t even know why but I liked it. Dean took a few steps towards me and I felt my chest get warmer the closer to me he got. It was stupid how I was internally feeling when he stopped in front of me and asked if I needed anything. It took all my mental strength to not answer the first thing I had in mind – “you” – and simply shook my head, telling him I had a glass of water waiting for me in the living room. Nodding, he placed a gentle hand on the small of my back to lead me to the room and join Emily and his brother.
Once inside the living room, Dean sat down next to his brother who was typing on his open computer. Emily was standing at the entrance of the room and I stopped next to her before heading to one of the armchair around the coffee table. Emily sat in the other one next to me.
“So, did you find what you were looking for?” I asked while Dean took a sip of his drink.
“It’s a djinn for sure. The vic shows all the signs of being drained for about a week. The intravenous drip wasn’t clean, it most likely that it was done by someone who isn’t familiar with medical methods.” Sam explained, his eyes still on focused on the screen before him and I felt myself frown, feeling the needle in my arm.
“Or someone who doesn’t care about doing it safely and clean. Like a djinn.” Dean added and I nodded.
“And do you think the same thing happened to the other missing persons?” Emily asked and Sam raised his head to answer her.
“Djinns rarely make only one victim and from the numbers of disappearance in such a short time, it’s most likely that they were taken by the same monster.”
“So what do we do now? I mean, once you found out what kind of monster is responsible, what’s the next step?” I asked, curious to know what was the process of a hunt.
“Well, if we’re familiar with the monster, we usually have what we need in the trunk. If it’s something we’ve never came across before, we look through the lore and search for what would kill them. I usually take care of this.” Sam finished, sending a dark look to his brother who took another sip of this beer, not seeming to care much about what his brother was implying.
I let a light chuckle out.
“So we know what to use against djinns, right? You encountered one before, didn’t you?” I asked even though I was pretty sure they had, they talked about this monster like they were familiar with it. The brothers shared a look before Sam answered my question.
“Yeah. We met more than one.” He simply said and when my eyes drifted to Dean who seemed to remember something for a second. I made a mental note to ask him later.
“A silver knife dipped in lamb’s blood kills the bastard.” Dean declared and I nodded, silently wondering why that was what killed them.
“And you have some of that in your trunk?” Emily asked, probably questioning her company and I felt her. If we truly thought about it, those guys were weird, keeping endless weapons and lamb’s blood in the trunk of their car.
“Yep.” Dean said and Emily and I shared a look, silently agreeing that those men were another level of strange.
“Right. So, Zach’s body has been degraded by the water it was found into, erasing any clue we could have needed to have a location. We could think the place where he was held captive was clammy but it’s probably just to cover their tracks. Most of the times djinns choose a quiet, private and away place so they aren’t bothered by anyone.” Sam explained and it sounded like any serial killer’s hide-house.
“Like an old, abandoned factory.” A feminine voice suddenly interrupted and I flinched, Emily and I slightly gasping at the same time at Jody’s quiet come back. The sheriff got a smile at our reaction and entered the living room, a plastic bag in her left hand.
“Pretty much, yeah. Do you have anything like this in Sioux Falls?” Sam asked her and she let a small sigh out.
“Yes. But we’ve already searched the place, hoping to find Hailey and Charles there, ideally alive, but there was no one there. Just a few empty cans, some destroyed devices and graffiti on the walls.” Jody explained, some deception in her voice and Sam straightened, opening his laptop a little wider.
“Well, something else must exist. Another factory, an underground passage or an abandoned house. There must be a place where they keep them.” The younger brother declared, ready to find out where those poor people were trapped.
“Did you guys eat?” Jody suddenly asked and Sam didn’t even raised his head when he answered.
“Not hungry.”
At his sentence, Dean’s stomach growled in disapproval and he placed a hand on his belly, trying to reduce the sound. Sending an apologizing look to Jody and offering her an awkward smile, I couldn’t help but find him absolutely adorable. Even if he was still wearing this damn suit that made him look way more than adorable…
“I take this as a no. Well, I’ve grabbed something on the way so put this computer aside and help me set the table.” The older woman announced and the tallest man mumbled something, still not moving from the couch, the laptop on his knees.
“Sam Winchester. Put this laptop away, go change and come eat before you pass out on us. You’re not gonna fight monsters on an empty stomach.” Jody repeated, her voice a bit deeper and more serious. I couldn’t describe it any other way, it sounded like a ‘mom voice’.
At her tone, Sam raised his head and closed his laptop before placing it on the coffee table before him. I couldn’t help but stare at him for a second, astonished to not see him argue with her and when I turned my head towards my best friend, she seemed as stupefied as I was. From the short time – well, months – that we knew the Winchesters, Sam wasn’t one to back down or do something he didn’t want to do. And Dean had personally explained to me how his little brother didn’t even listen to him sometimes and only did as he pleased.
Maybe being a mom gave super-powers after all.

While Jody turned on the oven to heat up the lasagna – that looked insanely good – that she had picked up on her way home, Emily and I stood awkwardly between the dining room and the kitchen while the boys explained to Jody what they had discovered. She had pretty much found the same thing and knew where those monsters usually hid and it was crazy how normal it was to talk about those things for them. How comfortable and casual they were to debate on whether they were one or multiples to manage kidnapping those people. Emily and I shared a few looks during their conversation, having nothing to add but still carefully listening to them.
We didn’t know what to do with ourselves and it was probably showing.
Still talking about the case, Jody opened one of her closets and pulled five plates out of it, placing them on the counter in front of her. Then she opened a drawer and grabbed the cutlery we were gonna need. Her hands full of crockery Jody turned around and faced the brothers, the younger one not interrupting his guesses on the case when Jody handed them the plates.
“Here. Take a break and set the table. Please.” Jody asked and Sam grabbed the plates, stopping his thinking out loud but it was clear that he wasn’t finished with his mental researches.
At Jody’s request, Emily and I jumped from our spot and immediately joined the brothers to help them set the table, finally making ourselves useful. Once everything was on the table, Jody opened the oven and grabbed the scorching hot dishes while I picked up some glasses in a closet and gave some to Emily. Following the sheriff into the dinning room, she put the dish on the table and we handed a glass to each person at the table.
Sitting next to Emily, I chose the seat closest to Jody, therefore facing Sam while my best friend was sitting in front of Dean. I offered to serve everyone but Jody quickly stopped me, declaring that we were her guests. Sam wondered out loud where the victims could be while Jody placed a large slice of lasagna in Dean’s plate, the youngest brother wondering if it was possible to get access to the blueprints of the buildings of the town.
“Sam, no talk about work during dinner. I wanna find them too, you know I do. But let’s talk about something else while we eat.” Jody declared and I could see the frustration on the tall man’s face, not really happy to not be able to continue working on this case for now.
Then the dark-haired woman turned to me and asked how much lasagna I wanted.
“Hum, not much thank you. I’m not very hungry.” I answered a bit shy, not wanting to say no to the food she had kindly brought us. But she suddenly raised her eyebrows a little as though she had just realized something.
“Oh, right! You ate not that long ago.” She said and I nodded, confirming her thought. “Did you go to Botski’s?” She asked, a light smile on her face.
“Yes, it was really nice, you were right.” I told her and her smile widened. I didn’t know if she was happy to hear good things about this place from us or if she was glad we’d left and had a good time.
“What did you try there?” She added and looked behind me, at Emily.
“The bagels. They were really good.” My best friend said and I nodded in agreement.
“Wait. You left the house?” Dean’s voice suddenly interrupted us, his voice louder than our conversation.
I shyly turned my eyes towards him, nervous to see his disapproval. His eyes were focused and a bit hard. I gulped and nodded, playing with my hands under the table, my heart beating a bit faster in my chest as he furrowed his eyebrows, clearly not liking my answer.
“What?” Sam voice joined his brother’s, the disapproval and unhappiness clear on his features, making him even more intimidating than usual.
“Are you crazy? What if something had happened to you? What if the djinn had decided to pick you for its next victims?” Dean asked, his voice loud with worry and care but the veil of anger in his tone and the idea of the monster picking us made my stomach tighten and eye-contact impossible.
I timidly looked at Emily at the corner of my eyes and I could see that she was holding back, her breath was high in her lungs and she stood straighter than usual, her jaws clenching lightly. She was ready to retort something if he continued with this tone. My only explanation to her lack of comeback to Dean was that she didn’t want to yell in a stranger’s house, otherwise she would have already replied something in the lines of being free to do whatever she wanted. But Jody was faster and quickly cut Dean off.
“Hey! I did. I let them leave the house how they wanted to. It’s you two who decided to leave them all alone. So if you didn’t want them to be left alone, you shouldn’t have left without them. Did you expect them to patiently wait for you two to come back, quietly and motionless? Well, that ain’t working for me. They’re big girls and can take care of themselves. They did before they even knew you two and I think they handle it pretty well. So why don’t you trust them a little?” Jody defended us and my heart grew a bit bigger, appreciating her help.
“Wha- We trust them, it’s the monsters we don’t trust. And you know how dangerous it is, you’re the one who called us. They should have at least tell u-” Dean argued, his ‘they’ echoing as a ‘you’ meant for me.
I so should have sent that text…
“Dean Winchester. I wasn’t going to keep them prisoners in my own house. Calm down, they just went out for a bagel. You know me, if I was truly scared about their safety, I wouldn’t have left them alone. And if you’re not happy with this, maybe you shouldn’t have left without them.” Jody declared, putting an end to the discussion.
I dared look at Dean, the frustration to not being able to continue this argument and the discontent clear on his face, and the only thing I wanted was to apologize. Then I stole a glance at Sam who hadn’t said a whole word but his dark gaze said it all, making me unable to look at him either. So, the safest option and the most comforting one was my best friend whose face looked both stoic and embarrassed. I had no doubt that she was a bit uncomfortable that Jody had defended us that way, and I was too. But I could see in her slightly clenched jaws that she was frustrated to not be able to shoot back at Dean’s reaction.
Staring at my plate, I awkwardly played with the food, picking it with my fork and moving some salad leaves aside, hoping that the heavy air in the room was going to quickly dissolve while millions of apologizes burnt to escape my lips.
Emily’s POV :
I thought I was going to explode.
Even if I deeply wanted to retort that they had no say in what we could or couldn’t do, I wasn’t going to make Jody uncomfortable by arguing in her own house, at her dinner table. And even though it was very nice of her to defend us the way she had, I couldn’t help but feel bad that she did so. The last thing I wanted was to put her in a difficult position, even more because of us. Because of me.
But soon after putting an end to the topic of Eva and I leaving for lunch, Jody changed the subject. By asking some lighter questions and mentioning a certain Donna’s fishing trip with her boyfriend, Jody brought back a better mood, much to my best friend’s delight whose gears I could practically hear in my own head.
The boys’ unhappiness of our departure started to disappear too but every time I caught a glance at Sam’s gaze, even for the shortest second, the desire to make clear that we were free to do whatever we wanted came back twice as hard. The black look he was giving me every few times our eyes met made me want to glare back at him and face his disapproval. To ask him what his problem was. To made him say out loud what he was really thinking and the reason behind his silent glare. To make him express his aggravation so I could let out my own irritation. But I couldn’t. Not at Jody’s place.
So, in order to both keep my composure and my frustration at bay, I tried to not look at him but even when I succeeded, I could still feel his gaze on me. A gaze I couldn’t help but notice, even though I was forcing my whole mind and body to ignore it. A gaze I wanted to face all day long. A gaze I couldn’t help but enjoy, probably more than I should have.
“Sure. You know that if she needs help she can always call us, we’ll be there. Right, Sammy?” Dean’s voice suddenly brought me back to the conversation going on.
At his mention, my eyes locked with the youngest Winchester’s for a short second before he looked at Dean. He mustn't have paid much attention to the conversation either because he slightly frowned and asked.
“What?”
Dean quickly looked from his brother to me as though something was suspicious and I raised my eyebrows in an attempt to kill whatever thoughts he was having. Probably getting the hint, he finally looked at Sam.
“That Claire can call us if she needs help on a hunt.” Dean repeated what we both hadn’t heard.
“Yeah, sure.” Sam nodded, agreeing with the idea but I was sure that everyone could see in the gesture of his head that he wasn’t fully thinking about it. No one paid attention at the detached tone he used in his response and his eyes found mine again when he finished his answer.
Something warm appeared in my stomach and before I could think anything about it Jody asked if we wanted a desert, the happy squeal of Dean at the mention of pie bringing me back to Earth.

Once the last slice of pie was served and eaten by the glutton in front of me, Jody got up and grabbed the empty plate of lasagna.
Immediately, Eva and I followed her lead, taking the empty plates and cutlery and bringing them to the kitchen to put the dishes in the sink. Sam cleared the used glasses off the table while his brother put the drinks back in the fridge. Then the tall Winchester disappeared at the corner of the kitchen without a word, leaving us with Jody who started to roll up her sleeves.
“Wait, Jody, I’m gonna do the dishes.” Eva quickly interrupted her, reaching the sink before the sheriff could.
“Oh, you know you don’t have to.” Jody replied at the offer and my best friend shook her head.
“It’s fine, really. You invited us, the least we can do is help you out.” Eva explained and I joined her in front of the turned off faucet, agreeing with her.
“I’ll wipe the dishes.” I said, next to my best friend and Jody smiled.
“Well, thank you, girls. It’s very nice of you.” She declared, sending a knowing and dark look to the hunter still in the kitchen. Dean slightly looked at the ceiling as though he hadn’t heard and exited the room too, leaving us alone with Jody for the second time of the day.
“Thank you very much for dinner Jody, it was incredibly good.” Eva started the conversation as she washed a first plate. I grabbed the dish towel resting on the drawer, getting ready for when she was finished with it.
“I’m glad you liked it. Marco’s lasagna are the best, I can’t make them as good as he can.” Jody said and I smiled at her comment before taking the cleaned plate Eva was handing me.
The sheriff cleaned her kitchen counter, putting the few things on them in their right place and Eva took care of another plate. Once I was finished with mine I looked around, trying to find out where to put them and Jody joined my side.
“Here. I’ll put them away.” She said and I gave her the dish, thanking her and she knelt in front of a closet on my right.
“I’m gonna invite you more often if you clean this well. Claire and Alex aren’t really fond of doing the dishes.” She joked when straightening and Eva and I chuckled.
“Well we’re used to it, we don’t have a dishwasher back home. And it’s actually usually this way. I wash and Emily dries.” Eva explained and Jody smiled.
“I see that everything is in order. You two are a great team then.” She declared and Eva and I shared a look, a smile on our lips.
“Yeah.” I answered and Eva gave me another plate, winking at me before going back to her washing.
Then Eva gave me a third plate when Dean reappeared in the kitchen.
“Hey, Eva, do you have an extra phone charger for me by any chance?” He asked, leaning against a closet and my friend raised her head to look at him.
“Hum, no, I only have mine. Sorry.” She answered, her voice not as assured as usual, as though she wasn’t totally comfortable in this very moment.
“Can I borrow it?” He asked and she nodded her head, looking back at her hands squeezing the sponge.
“Sure, no problem. It’s in my bag upstairs.” She explained him and gave me another plate without meeting my eyes.
“Could you show me? I don’t know which bag is yours.” He said and I frowned. I was pretty sure he knew which bags were whose by now. I looked at my best friend again and felt her nervousness. I hated that.
“It’s the gray one, next to the bed closest to the door.” She answered and he moved away from the closet.
“Eva.” He said and she raised her head to look at him, leaving the dishes behind. “Do you mind showing me?” He repeated and even I had understood he wanted to talk to her alone. And as though she had suddenly understood it too, she raised her eyebrows.
“Oh.” She turned off the water. “Hum, sure.”
Eva turned towards me to borrow the dish towel so she could dry her hands and gave me a quick look. I frowned at her timid behavior and before I could try anything about it, she stepped away and turned to Jody.
“Sorry, I’ll be right back.” She declared and Jody stopped her with a movement of her hand.
“Don’t worry, Honey. I’ll take your place, it’s fine.” The woman replied and Eva nodded, shyly smiling before she followed the older Winchester out of the kitchen, leaving me with Jody.
Looking at Eva leaving, something tightened in my chest and it took everything in me to not just follow her. I just couldn’t stand seeing my best friend uneasy like that. I didn’t know what Dean wanted to talk to her about but she seemed nervous about it; and I sure hoped he wasn’t going to do or say anything stupid or I was going to have to punch him in the face.
I felt myself straightening as I remained alone with Jody. Of course I had seen that she was welcoming and friendly, but she was still a stranger to me and I didn’t feel comfortable with people I didn’t know. Even with the ones I knew. Sometimes. And finding myself alone with her meant I would be the one talking with her. I would be the one she would ask her questions to. And I was far from ready for that.
Jody turned on the faucet again and started to clean the rest of the dishes, the silence around us way more appreciated by me than the potential questions she could have. But unfortunately, the silence didn’t stay long.
“So, Sam told me you’re a doctor.” Jody broke the silence and after tensing at the mention of the younger Winchester, I realized her question was about my career. Something I was way more comfortable talking about.
“Yes, I’ve been working at the ER for a while now. It’s pretty intense but I’ve always wanted to be a doctor.” And it was the truth. As far as I could remember, I had wanted to be a doctor. To help people, heal them, helping them get better. Understanding the human body and learning about it. Making a difference.
“Oh I’m sure it is. One of my girls, Alex, she’s a nurse at the hospital. And I know it’s not the same thing but she’s always exhausted after being on duty all night.” She explained and I nodded, taking the next cleaned plate.
“Being on duty is exhausted for sure and for all the health care personnel. But even when not working at the hospital, nurses have a pretty exhausting job as it is.” I told her and I appreciated to hear the tone of my own voice, the honeyed and timid one slowly replaced by my natural voice’s timbre.
“That’s true. Does being a doctor run in your family?” She then asked, adding some dish soap on the sponge.
“No. But my mom’s a nurse.” I told her and Jody looked at me, a smile on her face.
“Really? She must be really proud of you. Everyone, actually. Being a doctor is such an admirable job. And from what I’ve heard, you’re a remarkable one.” She declared and I felt myself blushing. I quickly looked away from her gaze, uncomfortable at her kind words in my regards.
“Thank you.” I shyly said and knelt to put the last plate at its place, using this action as an excuse to be away for a second. To be able to take a breath.
“You have a very laudable profession too, you know. And not an easy one.” I told her, trying to steer the conversation towards her rather than me.
“You’re being kind.” She chuckled and I smiled at her, meaning my words. “But thank you.”
Afraid that she would ask another question, I decided to take action and wondered about her daughters.
“So, hum, your daughter Alex is a nurse. What does Claire do?” I asked and I didn’t understand Jody’s expression for a second. She seemed almost surprised but quickly, a smile appeared at the corner of her mouth when she looked at me again.
“Well, I try to get her into college, learn about anything she wants but she doesn’t feel that way.” She sighed, rinsing the cutlery before giving them to me. “She’d rather hunt and it’s not that I’m against the idea. Or maybe I am… the only thing is that she isn’t being careful yet, she’s too young and too inexperienced. And of course she’s too stubborn to want help. At least not from me.” She explained and I felt bad for Jody. She seemed to try so hard to keep them safe, it must be difficult to see their child doing something dangerous everyday.
“I just worry about her.” She finally said and I nodded.
If I had decided to go crazy and become a hunter, I had no doubt my parents would have been worried to death too.
“But enough about this.” Jody quickly said before I could reply anything. “The boys told me you and Eva were roommates. Where do you live again?”
I wanted to try and reassure her, even though I had never been really good at this but she quickly changed of topic. And even if I was willing to go pass my discomfort of personal confessions to try and help her out, I respected her desire to not talk about it. If I was trying to change of topic, I would like her to follow my lead too. So I answered her question.
“Topeka, in Kansas. We’ve been living together for a few years now, actually. We had talked about this as a dream since forever but we actually did it after I graduated.” I told her, remembering the late night conversation in our beds at our childhood houses, talking about the apartment we would share. Me dreaming about the window walls and Eva already imagining our sexy neighbors. She had been quiet disappointed when she met Mrs McCarthy instead of two handsome guys she would have declared ‘perfect for us’.
“It’s not easy to actually live your friend, even when you get along with them. But you two seem to pull it off very well.” Jody said with a smile and I nodded, agreeing with her.
“Yeah, I was a bit worried about this, actually. We were spending all of our time together, but it’s not the same as living with them 24/7. But we tried it and now we’ve found our own balance, so it’s great. And with our work, we can also have our own alone time.” I explained, silently asking her where to put the cutlery and Jody pointed to a drawer next to me.
“I’ve been with a roommate too, but during college. It was a long time ago, now.” Jody joked and I laughed at her comment. I didn’t know her age but I was sure she wasn’t as old as she pretended.
Trying to not think about it too much, I took a short second to appreciate how comfortable I was starting to while speaking with her. Maybe it was something that emanated from her or maybe the topic we were talking about, but I enjoyed how less tensed I was starting to be.
“Where you sharing a flat with friends?” I asked, wanting to know more about her and her time as a roommate. And she seemed to appreciate my question as she smiled.
“I’ve done both, actually. I started with two friends and it went pretty well until they moved away. Then I had to find new roommates, it’s more convenient to share a flat when you’re a student.” Jody explained and I agreed with her. Having a roommate both have bad and good sides and while I hadn’t thought about it, Eva had pointed out how financially better it was than when we had our own apartments.
“So after a few months alone, I decided to open the apartment to anyone willing to share a flat. That’s how I met one of my greatest friends, actually.” Jody continued and I smiled at her story.
“Wow, that’s great. I would have never been able to share a flat with a stranger. I admire you for doing that.” I told her, meaning it and she smiled again, both at my comment and the memories obviously coming to her mind.
“I was a bit scared, not everyone around me thought it was a great idea but it turned out pretty well. Sometimes you have to take that scary step to have something great happening to you.” She declared and something strange tightened in my chest at her words. She sent me a look I couldn’t quite understand and I wasn’t sure I wanted to.
Before I could say anything back, I felt my body slightly tensing on its own before a voice resonated in the room.
“Found it. I know where they’re hiding. I tell Dean and we’re ready to go.” Sam declared before I could see him and I slightly turned my head to look at him. His eyes found mine for a second before he looked at Jody again.
“Alright, I’ll get my things.” She said, turning the faucet off and drying her hands before she left the room. Sam sent me another look before joining her.
I hadn’t even realized I had trouble breathing correctly before I was left alone in the kitchen.
What the hell was happening to me?
Eva’s POV :
Making sure to leave the door opened behind me, I knelt besides my bed and grabbed the grey bag at the foot of it. Searching for my phone charger, I heard the door slam, making me slightly jump in the process. But what really startled me was Dean’s sudden loud voice.
“Have you lost your mind?” He strongly asked and I quickly raised to my feet and took a step back, taken aback by the sudden sharpness of his tone.
“Wha-what?” I stuttered, not understanding the sternness of his features.
“What were you thinking leaving this house? Do you realize how stupid and dangerous that was?” Dean questioned again, his voice rough and his eyebrows furrowed.
He wasn’t yelling, but it was just like it. My heart hammered in my chest when I understood we hadn’t come up here to take a phone charger but so he could let me know of his disapproval, away from everyone. I had already felt guilty at the dinner table, intensely regretting the choice made to leave this place. But after Jody’s talk and the way we had changed of topic, I had hoped that we had all moved on. Of course I would have had my own guilt to deal with but it would have calmed down eventually. It just needed a little time. But knowing that Dean was still mad at me about it wasn’t going to help for sure.
“I- We-… It was just…” I tripped over my words, incapable of thinking at the moment.
A part of me knew we hadn’t done anything wrong per say. Emily and I had talked about it, she had reassured me at the diner. And there was Jody. Their friend and sheriff of the town had declared that we could leave her house if we wanted. She had only asked for us to be careful. And we had been.
“We’re not here on vacation, this a case. A hunting job. There are djinns in this town kidnapping and killing people. And you go out for a bagel? Without telling me?” Dean continued, his voice strong and his brows almost touching each other.
“I… Jody said it was okay to go out. She just said to be careful.” I finally said, trying to justify myself and I hated how childish I sounded.
Dean let out a scoff at this and shook his head, looking at the ceiling for a short second before looking back at me.
“To be careful? And how careful have you been, huh? Do you even know what djinns do? I’ll tell you.” He started, his face closed and upset.
“Dean.” I tried to interrupt him. The last thing I wanted was to hear about some scary story. I knew we weren’t there for pleasure, I didn’t need a reminder. But as though he hadn’t heard me, Dean continued.
“All they need is one little touch and you go sleeping beauty, trapped in a perfect fucking dream life you never wanna leave. And during this time? They drain you from all your blood until you die. That’s what you want?” He raised his voice, taking one more step towards me and my throat clenched, my stomach tightening at his words.
I was gonna throw up.
“No! Of course not. Stop it, please!” I let out and turned away from him for a second. My throat still in knots, I could feel my blood quickly pounding in the veins of my neck. Dean didn’t move and thankfully, he stopped talking too, giving me some time to think. I took a shaky breath and looked at the floor, trying to regain some courage before talking again.
“I’m sorry.” I started, already feeling a bit lighter by just saying the words. “We were careful, Dean.” I said turning back to him, my voice quiet and as calm as possible, hoping the tone I’d use would make his calmer too. And would slow down my speeding heart. “Jody… Jody said to call her if we had a problem.” I continued and Dean immediately cut me off, jumping at my words and taking a step towards me.
“No. No, no, no. Something happens to you, you call me. Not Jody. Me!” Dean shouted and my heart jumped in my chest.
“I call you, Dean!” I said back, closing my eyes for a moment and I could feel my own voice breaking a little. I took a deep breath, my eyebrows furrowing as I poorly tried to keep my emotions under control. I raised my head and Dean’s face softened when our eyes met. “I call you. When Emily was missing, you’re the one I called. Not the police. You. If I’m in troubles, I would call you.” I reminded him, looking in his eyes.
“And you don’t have to try and scare me with all the horrible details, I’m already scared as it is. Don’t worry.” I let out, falling on the bed behind me and played with my hands in a nervous gesture. I could see the tips of Dean’s boots in my peripheral vision as silence remained in the room for a moment. Then I added. “I know you’re mad at me but please… Stop yelling.” I asked, closing my eyes at my request.
I hated this. I hated this so much. I didn’t want him to yell, I didn’t want him to be mad at me. I just… If only I had send this stupid text message…
I heard Dean faintly sigh in front of me before feeling the bed lowering next to me. Dean’s arm brushed against mine as he sat by my side and somehow I could breath a little more easily.
“I’m not mad… I’m worried.” Dean declared and something heavy left my chest at his words. I raised my head to look at him and he continued. “Sweetheart, I don’t want anything happening to you or Emily because of a stupid bagel.” He declared, his voice calmer and his eyes softer.
“I know… I know. I don’t want that either, you know.” I told him, looking away for a moment and stared at my hands on my lap. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you but, Jody didn’t seem worried and we’ve been careful. I’m always careful.” I said and Dean put his hand on my thigh and I hadn’t even realized I was shaking it. I felt it calm down under his warm palm and took a quiet breath. My heart calmed down, my throat and stomach relaxed too and I felt a bit more like myself.
“I know, you’re careful, Eva. That’s not this I’m worried about.” He started and I bit my lip. “Listen, you just don’t know what it’s like to be under a djinn’s spell, okay. I do.” He confessed and I raised my head to look at him, surprise in my eyes.
I knew something had happened to him in relation to those monsters. I opened my mouth to ask questions, feeling like myself again, wanting to know more about what had happened. But Dean must have sensed that I was gonna ask questions and shook his head.
“Not now, please.” He asked and I closed my mouth, respecting his choice. I hoped that one day, he would tell me about this too. “Just… Promise me you’ll text me next time. Just let me know those kind of things. I don’t say I’ll be happy about it but…” He didn’t finish his sentence but I knew what he meant.
“But at least you’ll know. Got it.” I said, nodding. And I meant it, I got it.“I’m sorry, Dean, I didn’t mean to worry you.” I said seriously, finally holding his gaze and he gave me a light smile. I felt his thumb moving on my leg in a reassuring gesture and I tried to give him his smile back.
“And I’m sorry I yelled.” He said, searching my eyes and I appreciated it. This time I felt my smile reached my eyes.
Then Dean playfully pushed my shoulder with his, a smirk on his face, and all the previous tension in the room disappeared. “Was it good at least?” He asked, raising his eyebrows in curiosity and I frowned.
“Was what good?” I asked back and Dean tucked his chin at my question.
“Well, your bagel, of course.” He replied and my face relaxed in realization, a little smile taking place on my lips. Seeing his soft features made it all so much easier.
“Oh, yes. Jody gave us a very good address. I’m sure you would have loved it.” I told him, my grin widening at the change of topic.
“I’ll have to give it a try then. Even though I’m more of a burger kind of guy.” He declared with some pride in his voice, probably loving his own tastes and I chuckled at his face.
“Yeah, I noticed.” I told him with a smile, locking eyes with him.
Looking into each other’s eyes, it felt like all argument and tension had never happened. The silence surrounding us wasn’t heavy or stressful anymore but calm and quiet. Staring into his green orbs, my smile lightly faded and I felt the air shift around us. I wanted to know what had happened. I wanted to tell him I was having a really hard time keeping everything from Emily. I wanted to tell him I wasn’t enjoying hiding it. Hiding us. I wanted to tell him… I wanted…
Something was suddenly different and I felt my body moving closer to his on its own. As if pulled by an invisible strength, I turned my body towards his and his eyes fell on my lips before finding my irises again. My heart fastened when he lowered his head towards me, placing his hand on the side of my head and I ached to feel his lips on mine again. I closed my eyes in anticipation, felt his nose bumping into mine before his lips brushed against mine.
“Dean!” Sam’s voice from downstairs made me slightly jumped, breaking the moment and Dean sighed in front of me, resting his forehead on mine as he closed his eyes.
“I’m gonna kill him.” He whispered against my lips and I chuckled at his annoyance.
Then Dean straightened and moved away from me but kept a hand around my waist. Sighing again, he pinched his lips.
“What!” He screamed back to his brother and I cursed at his yell, turning my head away so he wouldn’t yell in my ear again. Surely, screaming from one room to another wasn’t the most enjoyable for ears. But apparently the brothers didn’t mind because Sam yelled back.
“Found it!”
Dean raised his eyebrows at Sam’s words and our eyes met. He must have found where the djinns were hiding. Where the victims were held captive.
“The hiding place?” He asked as to make sure they were talking about the same thing and Sam confirmed his thoughts.
“Yep. Now get your ass down here, we got to go.” Sam declared and he was right, if they knew where the djinns were hiding they needed to leave as soon as possible.
Dean stared at the door for a second then looked at me again. Searching my eyes for a moment, I didn’t know what he was looking for. But they couldn’t wait another minute here when people were in danger, I knew that. So, I patted his chest gently before moving him away.
“Go.” I simply told him and he nodded, standing up. I mimicked his movements and followed him to the door. But a tiny pressure appeared in my stomach and I needed to be sure of something before he left.
“Dean?” I stopped him, grabbing his wrist. The hunter turned towards me, eyebrows raised.
“What?” He asked and I slightly frowned.
“We’re good, right?” I shyly asked and Dean smiled at me, this simple expression easing everything.
“Of course we are. Now, come on.” He declared, grabbing my hand and leading me in the hallway.
Emily’s POV :
Dean and Eva went down the stairs and it felt like a breath of fresh air to see her. Not knowing what to do with myself between Sam and Jody once he had found out where the monsters were hiding, I was glad to see the familiar and comforting face of my best friend. And apparently, she seemed more relaxed than when she had left the kitchen. I was glad to see this and when her eyes found me, she offered me a wide smile, walking to me and confirming my thoughts.
“So, where are they?” Dean asked as he walked down the last steps.
“An old factory outside of town. The police department had already searched it, but didn’t found anything. But I had a feeling. So I looked it up and found the blueprints of it. Apparently, there’s a hidden basement in the left wing of the building. I’m sure they’re here.” Sam explained and I couldn’t help but feel a bit strange at the mention of the blueprints. This man could truly get any information he wanted.
Eva finally stood next to me, listening to the younger brother and I felt her head landing on my shoulder for a second. An affectionate gesture I appreciated. Then she put a light and discreet kiss on my sweater and I smiled at her when she straightened. I didn’t know the actual reason behind her loving gesture but silently enjoyed it.
“The original way to the basement ‘s been clogged, that’s why the police didn’t find it. But I’m sure they’re there. It’s quite, away from everything and everyone, in the dark. It’s the perfect location for them.” Sam continued, showing the blueprints as he talked and Dean nodded, not even doubting his brother’s theories.
“Alright. Let’s check it out, then.” The older hunter declared and Sam stood up from the couch, closing his laptop and putting it on the coffee table.
Jody, Sam and Dean, all three started to move around the living room, taking their coats, grabbing their keys, checking their guns. Preparing everything they needed to face the monsters they were heading to while we stood there.
“So, how can we help?” I asked, not wanting to be benched or locked in this house again.
But as soon as the question slipped from my lips, Sam raised his eyebrows at me and I stared at him. I knew we weren’t hunters but I was growing tired of being useless in this case and wanted to help them out. After all, there were people in danger and I wanted to help save them.
“No, you’re not coming.” Sam stated, understanding what I meant with my question. “This is way too dangerous and you aren’t prepared for this. So you’re staying here.” He declared and I hated him in this very second. I didn’t let anyone boss me around and tell me what to do. But as I was about to respond something, I met his gaze and shut my mouth. I didn’t know how he had managed to do that but I hated it. I hated him.
“We just wanna help you on this.” Eva tried, backing me up. I both loved her for this and hated how it made me feel like I couldn’t argue myself.
“We know. But it’s way too dangerous and you’re not hunters. We don’t want you getting hurt, that’s all.” He repeated and I clenched my jaws.
It had better not become the new excuse to everything.
“He’s right on this one, girls. I’m sorry.” Jody declared, incapable of supporting us in this argument. I knew she meant well but in this moment I just hated how everyone was babying us.
“Alright, let’s go.” Dean said, putting an end to all this and I glared at him too. But as though he was more open to discussion than earlier that day, he sighed and tilting his head. “We’ll call you if we need help, but for now, you stay here.” He said with a rapid smile and I rolled my eyes at his face.
All of them walked to the front door, Dean holding it so Jody could step out of the house first. Then Sam readjusted his jacket and sent me a look. A look that could both mean ‘Stay here. I’m serious.’ and ‘Stay safe.’ But I kept sending him a dark look, still upset to having to stay here again. Sam slightly clenched his jaws and I enjoyed the idea of annoying him, an imperceptible smile on my face.
Then he started to leave the house too but before he could fully step outside, Eva stopped him.
“Guys.” She called and both of them turned to look at her. “Be careful.” She asked and they nodded in sync, Sam leaving immediately after while Dean gave us another look.
“Lock behind us.” He declared and closed the door, leaving Eva and I alone again.
My best friend let out a sigh next to me and I turned to her, shaking my head when our eyes met.
“I hate them.” I told her and in this moment, I meant it. Eva chuckled, knowing what I meant and went to the door to lock it.
We were going to wait. Here. Again.
Ugh.

Then
Sam pulled on his jacket as he hurried through the corridors of the bunker, propelled by thoughts of Brooke. It had been over a week since he had seen her, and he couldn’t wait to be near her again. Eager as he was, he couldn’t deny his nervousness. He had decided that whatever happened, he was going to kiss her. Properly this time, not on the cheek. A full-blown, make-her-knees-weak kiss. At least, that was the plan.
They had communicated almost constantly over the past week, texting and calling whenever they could. Sam was captivated by every chat and wanted to talk to her again as soon they bid each other good night.
They talked about everything under the sun, asking probing, curious questions about everything from religion to snack preferences. Sam had been as honest as he could be without endangering his secrets.
He learned so much about her, and the more he discovered, the more he wanted to know. Everything he learned about her only intensified his hunger for her, emotionally and physically. So he had promised himself that, despite any interruptions, he would make a move regardless of what happened that night.
That was, if he could escape the bunker and the inquisition Dean was sure to subject him to. Sam groaned silently, seeing Dean nursing a beer, feet up on the map table, watching something apparently hilarious on his laptop. Though Dean’s eyes never left the screen, Sam knew he’d been seen and wouldn’t be able to avoid him.
“Going to see your girlfriend?” Dean asked, still without lifting his eyes.
“I’m just going for a drive.”
Dean chuckled, looking up long enough to throw Sam a skeptical smile. “Dude, we just drove nine straight hours to get home.”
“I just want to get out for a while.” Sam’s shrug did nothing to placate Dean.
“Uh-huh,” he hummed, unconvinced. “So you’re not going to go see the reason you’ve been smiling at your phone all week?”
There was no way Sam could deny it. He had taken private calls, texted furtively like a high school kid, and walked around smiling seemingly without reason.
Sam decided he’d be better off not answering and walked away rather than stand there any longer and allow Dean to interrogate him. He didn’t want to lie, but he wasn’t ready to tell Dean about Brooke. He didn’t want to hear Dean’s you’re-playing-a-dangerous-game-Sammy speech. And in some small way, Sam wasn’t ready for Brooke to be anyone else’s but his own happy little secret.
“What’s her name?” Dean called after Sam as he ascended the stairs, jogging slightly faster with each step.
“Don’t wait up,” Sam shouted back.
“I think I’ve met her,” chuckled Dean, “she’s trouble.”
Tumblr media
Emily, Cara, and Nikki had been Brooke’s best friends since first grade. The foursome had been inseparable and remained close even when they all went off to separate colleges. Nikki and Cara married each other a year after graduating. Emily and Brooke served as both maids of honor and best women for the couple.
Work commitments, families, and just being fully functioning adults took up a lot of their time, but they all made an effort to get together at least once a month. Tonight was Brooke’s turn to host. A mild summer's evening meant the friends could sit comfortably on the back patio as the evening turned to night. They consumed too many burgers and hotdogs, barely touched the salad, drank too much wine, and laughed louder and harder than they had for a long while.
Brooke loved nights like this; cherished them because it was rare in their busy lives that they got to spend time together. She giggled along with her three closest girlfriends at Emily’s latest hookup story. She’d literally fallen asleep partway through sex.
“I think he was more embarrassed than me,” Emilly chuckled, her cheeks a deep red.
“Maybe next time, lay off the white wine. You know it makes you sleepy,” Nikki suggested.
The melody of the doorbell chimed through the house, cutting off Emily’s snarky response. “Who the hell is at your door after ten on a Friday night?” Cara asked Brooke, her perfectly sculpted brows cocked suspiciously.
“It’s probably Old Man Simms,” Brooke guessed, rising to her feet, “asking us to keep the noise down.” She took the last sip of her wine and motioned for Emily to refill her glass before entering the house. Through the frosted glass of her front door, she could see the unmistakable silhouette of Sam’s large frame.
“Oh crap,” she muttered. She paused in the kitchen and checked her distorted reflection in the gloss-black sheen of her refrigerator. Her cheeks were a little flushed from the alcohol, but there was no ketchup on her shirt or food in her teeth.
She pulled open the door, an almost giddy smile on her lips.
Sam wore a similar grin. “Hey.” Laughter from the backyard filtered through before Brooke could offer a greeting of her own. His smile faltered, and his gaze followed the direction of the noise. “Ah, you’ve got company.”
“I do.” Brooke wrinkled her nose apologetically. She stepped out, leaving the door slightly ajar behind her. “It’s our monthly girls’ night. I thought you were the strippers.”
Sam lifted a brow. “Oh, it’s that kind of girls' night?”
She smirked. “I wouldn’t put it past Emily to actually hire strippers.” She laughed with him, but she’d only been half joking. Brooke looked up at Sam from under her lashes with a mischievous grin. “Although, I’m sure they’d pay you a pretty penny to get naked.”
Sam’s shoulders shook with laughter. “And what about you?”
Brooke liked the confidence Sam seemed to gain as time passed, and they became more comfortable with one another. He flirted more and grew bolder. She liked how she was around him, too, the person she could be, completely herself. She could shamelessly flirt and was never afraid to say something embarrassing. Sam wasn’t the type to judge or tease her unkindly.
She took a step closer to him and used the buttons of his shirt as stepping stones to walk her fingers up his chest. “Something tells me I could see it for free.”
Sam dipped down at the same time Brooke rose to her tiptoes. They inched closer. He went left; she went right. She inhaled his aroma: coconut shampoo and peppermint gum he must have been chewing on the drive over. She closed her eyes, eager to finally feel his lips against hers. Sam’s large hands encased her hips and drew her into him…
The door burst open behind them with a whoosh of air, and all three women sang a triumphant, “BUSTED!”
Sam and Brooke were startled but didn’t separate much. With her hands still resting on his chest and his on her hips, Brooke giggled as she walked him backward, whispering loudly, “Run, Sam! Run! Save yourself!”
He chuckled, leaning around her to address their audience. “Hi, ladies.” He waved awkwardly at the women crowding the doorway to get a better look at him.
“He does not look like Old Man Simms,” Emily teased, strolling to stand beside Brooke.
“Ladies, Sam. Sam, meet Emily, Cara, and Nikki,” she told him, pointing at each woman in turn.
“Key Thief Emily?” Sam asked, shaking her outstretched hand.
“The one and only,” Emily grinned. “So, you know about me, so why don’t I know about you?”
Brooke noticed the slight hurt in Sam’s eyes and the knit of his brow. He recovered quickly, cleared his throat, and flashed a dazzling smile.
“There’s not much to know,” he shrugged. “We haven’t known each other long.”
“Oh, there must be something,” Emilly disagreed, pulling her bottom lip between her teeth. Her eyes roamed his body.
Brook sighed heavily and rolled her eyes at Emily’s flirting. She wasn’t sure why she hadn’t mentioned Sam to them yet. It wasn’t as if she sounded the alarm every time she went on a date with someone new, but she already knew Sam was different. He made her happy. She often found herself smiling whenever she thought about him. Her stomach fluttered excitedly whenever his name popped up on her phone. He seemed too good to be true, almost like a fairy tale prince, and telling her friends about him would have plucked him out of the storybook and dropped him into the real world. Maybe he’d lose his magic here. Maybe she’d realize she’d been dreaming. She hadn't been ready to wake up just yet.
“He’s not a secret or anything. I was just- ”
Emily interrupted her, eyes still locked on Sam. “Keeping you all to herself... and I can see why.” She ran her gaze hungrily up and down Sam’s body, and he awkwardly pulled his hand from her grasp. “So,” Emily said, turning so she could see them both, “is this just a booty call?”
“Oh my god, Emily!” Brooke groaned. She’d heard enough. Emily and her shameless flirting were done. Emily knew Brooke wasn’t the booty-call type. Sometimes she wished she was, but being with someone on a purely physical level had never appealed to her. She didn’t like that Emily’s question could make Sam believe otherwise.
“Brooke, don’t tell me you haven’t got all up on that because if you won’t,” said Emily, stepping closer to him, “I most certainly will.”
Brooke laughed and mouthed a silent ‘sorry’ to Sam, who looked past Emily to her as if pleading for help.
“Y’know, I’ve been telling her for months that she needs to get under someone to get over Chris.”
“Emily!” chastised Nikki.
“And you’re done,” said Brooke, gently clasping Emily’s shoulders to guide her back up the step and toward the house. Nikki took over, escorting the overzealous woman back inside.
“We’ll give you two a minute,” she assured Brooke with a not so subtle wink.
Cara eyed Sam appreciatively, making no move to follow her wife and friend back inside.
“Cara, honey,” Nikki coaxed.
Cara held her hand up for a high-five from Brooke, an obvious gesture of approval. “I’m proud of you.” Brooke chuckled bashfully but obliged her friend, slapping her hand loudly. “You go, girl!” Cara called over her shoulder before disappearing into the house.
Sam waited for the door to be closed before he released a long breath. “I should let you get back,” he said when Brooke’s apologetic eyes found his again, “before they come back to interrogate me.”
Brooke agreed with a fond chuckle. “They really will.”
“Goodnight, Brooke,” he said softly as he backed away.
“‘Night, Sam.”
He gave her his megawatt smile and turned his back to her to walk to his car. Her brow furrowed as she watched him go. His stride wasn’t as sure as it usually was, and his head hung down a little lower. Maybe the disappointment of not finding her alone, the almost kiss, or the fact that she’d been keeping him from her friends had hurt him. She couldn’t be sure, but whatever the reason, she didn't like to see him that way. Sam had never had a cocky strut, but he’d always carried himself confidently.
Perhaps it was the fault of too much wine, being so close to kissing him moments earlier or seeing his almost dejected amble, but Brooke found her feet carrying her forward before she realized it.
As her wine-soaked brain finally caught up with the steps that carried her rapidly down the path after Sam, a smile crept to her lips; then lust and passion drove her forward.
Sam spun around at the sound of his name. Reading her intentions correctly, Sam planted his feet a second before she pushed off the ground and leaped into his arms. Her mouth found his as her legs wrapped around him, and he used a firm grip under her thighs to hoist her up so she could lock them tightly around his waist. Her hands tangled in his hair, and she pulled back to look at him.
Sam didn’t allow her to stare for long before he dove back in to kiss her again. Brooke felt his initial shock dissipate as he released a satisfied sigh into her mouth. She teased his mouth open with her tongue against his bottom lip, desperate to taste him. She moaned when he parted his lips for her, and their tongues found an eager rhythm. His lips were plush and soft, his tongue firm, and it danced with hers slowly and sensually.
Too caught up in the taste of him, it wasn’t until his hands squeezed her curves that she realized that they cupped her ass, helping to hold her in place but also taking advantage of the necessary placement. The sensation evoked another moan from her.
Air became an issue, and she prepared to pull away, but Sam must not have been ready for it to end because he ran a hand up her back, his long fingers finding the nape of her neck to hold her against him for a moment longer. When they eventually parted, they were gasping for breath. She kept her eyes closed, savoring the moment, committing the sensations to memory. When she opened them, Sam’s lust-blown pupils held her gaze. The emotion he clearly felt had made the pretty hazel of his irises all but disappear.
He exhaled slowly. “Wow.”
Breathlessly, she agreed, “I meet your wow and raise you a holy shit.”
Muffled hooting and hollering could be heard from the house, and they laughed.
“They’re all in the window, right?”
Sam reluctantly pulled his eyes from Brooke, and she turned her head to check her own suspicion. Sure enough, the three women stood in the large bay window of Brooke’s living room. Their thumbs up, clapping, and excited little dances made them both chuckle. She shooed them away with a wave of her hand as she untangled herself from Sam, and he helped lower her to the ground. His hands slipped from her butt to her hips to steady her. When her attention returned to him, he guided her into him and dipped to claim her kiss-swollen lips once again.
She grinned against his mouth before she broke the connection and began walking backward. “Night, Sam,” she winked as she turned.
“Really?” he scoffed in disbelief. “You’re going to kiss me like that, and then it’s just ‘Night, Sam’?”
“Yeah,” she called back without stopping. The smirk she wore was more than apparent in her tone. “I have to go tell my girls about this tall, handsome man I met who just so happens to be an incredible kisser.”
“Old Man Simms, really that good a kisser? Should I be jealous?”
“Immensely,” she laughed, twisting to look when she reached the top of the porch steps. “If you see him around here, let him know I’m free for breakfast tomorrow.”
“I’ll be sure to pass the message on.”
She bit her lip to stifle a grin. “Night, Sam.”
“Sweet dreams, Brooke.”
Tumblr media
Sam couldn’t wipe the grin from his face the whole drive home. He hadn’t even bothered to try. He had been disappointed to find she had company and that it meant he couldn’t spend the night with his head in her lap while she stroked his hair - which could have led to so much more - but that kiss had unquestionably made up for it.
He had been disheartened to learn Brooke hadn’t told her friends about him. Had their dates not been worth mentioning? Was she not as into him as he was into her? It stung more than he liked. Maybe Brooke hadn’t spoken about him because of his sporadic visits. He’d had to cancel plans with her twice that week and had given her less than twenty-four hours notice each time. He hadn’t wanted to, but duty called.
Granted, he hadn’t told anyone about Brooke, either. Keeping Brooke a secret was to delay the inevitable. Dean, and maybe Mary, would more than likely try to talk him into ending it with her. Dean would be the voice of reason, the one to make Sam see sense, to make him understand what he already knew deep down: that what he was doing was dangerous, playing a game they rarely got to win.
But that kiss…
After that kiss, he wouldn’t stop seeing her. Couldn’t. Already yearning to do it again, he would have driven back over there in a heartbeat if she were to call and ask him to.
Striding happily into the bunker, the knowing smiles of the war room occupants went unnoticed. His attention was focused on writing Brooke a text, his smile wide and boyish.
Sam: I didn’t see the old man. Sorry. I’ll have to take you to breakfast instead. x
Brooke: I’m disappointed, but I guess you’ll do. X
He chuckled at her response, jogging happily down the stairs. The joyful spring in his step faltered when he noticed Mary and Dean gazing expectantly at him.
“Your boyfriend not home?” joked Dean.
Sam tried to wipe the jubilant grin from his lips but was unable to do so. The sight of Brooke leaping into his arms replayed in his mind, and his mouth responded by twitching up and down a couple of times as he tried to suppress the smile. Once he realized it was a losing battle, he let it stay and opted to tell Dean, “Shut up.” A heated blush crept to his cheeks, and he lied, “I told you I was just going for a drive.”
“Yeah, but these ‘drives’ you keep going on are normally a lot longer than just an hour or two.” Mary pointed out, grinning at her youngest son.
“What happened to ‘don’t wait up’?” Dean aimed his shit-eating grin at Sam. “You strike out?”
Sam had known they would question him about his absences sooner rather than later. Dean had held back from teasing him for far too long already.
Neither Dean nor Mary was dumb enough to believe Sam was merely enjoying late-night ‘drives’, but they must have understood it was something he wasn’t ready to tell them. Or else, they wanted to give him time to enjoy whatever it was for as long as he could. The curiosity must have been eating them up, though.
“Leave him alone, Dean,” Mary reprimanded lightly. “Let him be happy.”
Sam smiled thankfully at her, taking a seat to join them at the map table. Mary twisted the cap off a beer. As she offered it to him, she pointed toward the side of her mouth, “You’ve got a little lipstick...”
Sam’s face fell with embarrassment, and he wiped at his lips. Mary and Dean burst into fits of laughter.
“I KNEW IT!” Dean yelled, pointing an accusing finger at his brother.
Sam shook his head at himself. How could he fall for something so simple? He knew Brooke hadn’t been wearing lipstick when she kissed him. He stood abruptly, told them good night, and started retreating.
Dean was still chuckling when he called after Sam. “What’s her name?”
“None of your business!” Sam yelled over his shoulder, leaving his laughing family in the war room.
Tumblr media
Now
Brooke covered her mouth to stifle a yawn as she readjusted her butt on the wooden seat. The library chairs weren’t the comfiest. She had been so lost in the timbre of Sam’s voice as he recounted asking for her number and their first kiss, so wrapped up in his storytelling and how much emotion shone in his eyes, that she barely moved a muscle for fear of disrupting his flow or inadvertently doing something that caused his adorably shy, dimpled grin to disappear.
She swirled the remaining whiskey in the tumbler before knocking it back and giving Sam a tight smile. Tears swam in her eyes, and she was unsure if the burning liquor or something he’d said had caused them.
Sam seemed to wonder the same and hastily apologized. “Brooke, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to upset you.”
“You didn’t,” she assured him, tipping her head back to blink the tears away. She took a deep breath to compose herself and steadied her voice before she looked back at him. “It just... it’s all a little overwhelming. It seems like we had fun, but it’s all still kind of hard to believe. They’re amazing stories, but they aren’t my memories. I wish I didn’t have to sit here not knowing for sure whether you aren’t just good at making up fairy tales. I wish I could remember you. Us.”
“You will,” he promised, his arm extending toward her out of habit.
She watched his hand, and panic widened her eyes. She didn’t fear him anymore, but she wasn’t ready for him to touch her. He was still, after all, a stranger. She didn’t know him, not in the way he knew her.
Sam seemed to understand her reaction, and he stopped his advance, his hand hovering above hers. He stared at it as if he hated his own hesitation to touch her, even in the casual, comforting way it was probably intended, but he must have known she felt it would be crossing a line she wasn’t ready to have crossed yet.
He withdrew his hand to his lap and spoke to his fidgeting fingers. “I promise you, Brooke, I’m going to make this right,” he told her with a resolute nod. “I’m going to fix it because I don’t know how long I can go without-”
He broke off and looked away. She waited for him to continue. When he didn’t, she prompted, “How long you can go without what, Sam?”
He shot her a tight-lipped smile. “It’s late. Or early, I guess. It’s been a really long day. I’ve bombarded you with information. We should get some rest,” he suggested, getting to his feet.
Brooke followed him as he walked out of the library toward the bedrooms without a word. He seemed to take measured steps to avoid getting too far ahead of her, or maybe he wanted to spend those extra few moments with her. Regardless, it allowed Brooke to focus on the side of his face she could see.
He seemed in such pain. To hear Sam tell it, they’d been happy, in the ‘honeymoon’ period of a new relationship, the fun stages of getting to know each other. To have that taken from him without explanation, he must have been confused and hurt, even without the added pressure of trying to fix it.
Brooke held a deep breath as she reached out and cautiously slipped her hand into his. Sam froze, keeping his eyes on the floor, and waited for her fingers to delicately hook around his. She sighed, somewhat relieved when he showed no sign of resistance and tugged to coax him to turn to her. He twisted to face her but hesitated to bring his eyes to hers.
“I guess this is what you meant, right?” she asked, holding out her other hand, requesting his. “You don’t know how long you can go without touching me?”
He watched as she wove her fingers with his. Her smaller, softer hand was a contrast to his large calloused one, but somehow they just seemed to fit. Her stomach fluttered, and she had a strange sense of familiarity.
Sam found the courage to meet her eyes, and she wore a small, encouraging smile for him. “Yeah,” he admitted, “that’s what I meant.” The admission proved too much, and he dropped his eyes again. “You don’t know how hard it is for me to have you right here and not be able to touch you, even just to comfort you.”
“Can this be enough for now?”
He brought their interlaced hands to his lips and kissed the back of hers lightly. “It’s enough. For as long as you need it to be.”
Her smile widened in gratitude. Hope ignited his eyes, and she figured even if he couldn’t fix whatever made her forget him, she’d probably end up falling for him all over again.
The urge to kiss him overwhelmed her, so she reluctantly pulled her gaze from his and let him lead her by the hand to the bedroom across from his.
“I’m right in here if you need anything.”

Now
Brooke slept better than expected. The stress of the day and the whiskey with Sam caused her eyes to close as soon as her head hit the pillow. She woke just after ten thirty. She’d have rolled over and gone back to sleep if she hadn’t felt guilty. After all, she hadn’t gotten to bed until after six, but it was a Thursday. She should have been two hours into the day's work by now. She didn’t, however, feel guilty about missing her five a.m. morning run. She was sure the stress she’d endured in the last twelve hours had burned just as many calories, if not more.
She dressed in the same clothes from yesterday and made a mental note to ask Sam if she could go back to her place and grab some stuff as she made her way to the kitchen seeking coffee.
Her phone's text tone immediately chimed when she turned it on as she slid onto a stool at the kitchen table. She had sixteen messages and three voicemails from Tommy, two texts from her personal assistant, and three WhatsApp messages from her BFF group. She opted to read the ones from her friends first. Emily (who worked for Brooke as the Operations Manager) would have covered for her at work. Nikki, Cara, and Emily’s messages were all supportive - concerned but understanding her need to escape. She felt a pang of guilt for lying to her friends, but maybe she would be able to explain soon enough, if Sam kept his promise.
Tommy wasn’t so understanding. His messages got progressively angrier, asking where she was so he could join her, demanding she answer the phone.
Where are you?
Why is your phone off
tell me where you are I’ll come join you
you’re pissing me off, answer your phone
answer your fucking phone!
She stopped scrolling after reading the first six.
Dean entered, scrubbing his hands down his tired face. Brooke welcomed the distraction. “Morning,” she smiled brightly.
He grumbled something that resembled a greeting, and she laughed to herself, wondering if Sam was more of a morning person than his brother. The anticipation of seeing him made her stomach do a happy flip.
Dean’s butt had barely made contact with his seat before she asked, “Sam not up yet?”
He scoffed. “Please. That fitness freak is probably running his tenth mile.”
“He’s a runner?”
Dean sighed. “I forgot you don’t know him.” He gave her a small, sympathetic smile. “Yeah. Sam runs.” Dean rolled his eyes. “Every morning. Bit much, if you ask me.”
Brooke chuckled. “You're not a fan?”
“The only time this Winchester runs is if something is chasing him.”
Brooke laughed, but she felt like running back to her temporary bedroom and googling Sam Winchester. He’d been careful not to tell her his last name, and she hadn’t pried. Apparently, Dean hadn’t gotten that memo.
“You get chased often?” she asked, but the second the question left her lips, she knew she’d made Dean realize his own mistake. She had only meant that he must be chased often to be in such good shape, but that was not how Dean interpreted it. Being in his own environment and still half asleep, he had slipped up, and the realization was written all over his face.
“Look,” he began, setting his features into an unreadable mask, “if we’re gonna help you, then you should-”
Sam’s voice called for them from nearby, and Dean smiled tightly, almost as if he regretted his brother’s interruption. “In here!” he called back.
Sam grinned broadly when he saw Brooke and greeted them both, heaving a grocery bag onto the countertop.
“You went on a supply run already?” Dean asked. “I thought you’d be jogging with your woodland creature friends.”
Sam ignored the latter part of his comment, unpacked the loot from his early morning trip, and explained to Brooke rather than Dean, “I went to the grocery store. Thought you’d want your favorites.” He held up a jar of Brooke’s preferred coffee, and she smiled her thanks. “And I, um...I went by your place. Figured you’d be more comfortable in your own clothes.”
Brooke was taken aback. It was a sweet gesture, she’d had the same thought, but it also seemed like an invasion of her privacy. He’d gone through her things, no doubt her underwear drawer. He may already have seen most of its contents, but the thought made her a little angry. He didn’t have the right nor the permission.
She sighed heavily. She couldn’t keep going around in circles. She’d agreed to stay for four days to give Sam time to fix whatever he thought was wrong. She had never been one to do things by halves, so she needed to fully commit to it, embrace the doubts but push past them.
“Um, thanks,” she grinned as genuinely as she could muster. “I guess I can use it as a test to see how well you know me.”
Sam chuckled, and his returning grin made it easier to find the sincerity in her own. “I grabbed the essentials and all your favorites: gray Nike sweats, purple hoodie, white sneakers, and your work laptop. I know the guilt of taking a day off is probably eating you up.”
Brooke laughed authentically -- he does know me, after all -- and her ears pricked up at the mention of her computer. She could work remotely, ease some of her guilt, and google the man she couldn’t stop smiling at.
“I left it all in the library. Feel free to go change or hop on your computer. I’ll bring you some breakfast.”
Tumblr media
Now
Sam brought Brooke a plate of food, and the two of them sat quietly in the library. While she ate and caught up on emails, he stared into his own laptop, occasionally lifting his eyes to her. He’d already started working on the mystery surrounding Brooke’s amnesia. His mind was filled with weather reports and her social media feed, and he almost didn’t notice Dean setting a fresh cup of coffee in front of him.
Dean’s smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. He dropped a steaming mug in front of Brooke and took a seat across from her, kicking his boots up onto the table.
“So...” He cleared his throat, giving Sam a look. “I think it’d be best if Sam and I get a full rundown of everything you remember so we can start filling in the gaps.”
Brooke nodded and closed her laptop, and Sam gave her a tense smile. “Have you been anywhere new?”
She shook her head. “Other than here, no.”
“Meet anyone new?” Dean chimed in. “Someone that maybe offered you something that seemed kind of weird, and you just brushed it off as them being quirky?”
She eyed him suspiciously, “You mean like to grant me three wishes?”
“Not exactly,” Dean shrugged, “but something similar.”
“No.”
“Have you noticed any weird smells or powders?” Sam asked quickly after. “Found any small bags lying around? Any electrical interferences like flickering lights?”
“...No,” she said carefully, giving them both a sideways look, and Sam worried he might have lost some ground in gaining her trust. She seemed to be rethinking her decision to stay.
“I…need to make a couple of calls,” she said, excusing herself from the table.
Sam winced as she passed. Those questions almost always elicited the same mixture of confusion and reservation, but there wasn’t really a better way to put them. Sam watched her walk away and waited until she’d disappeared around the corner before turning to Dean. “Well, that rules out a few things.”
“Did you check out her place while you were out sniffing her panties?”
Sam shook his head at his brother, but not in answer to his question. “I did a quick search, EMF, sulfur, hex bags. Came up empty. I tried calling Rowena, but she didn’t answer, so I left a message. If it’s a spell, she’ll know how to fix it.”
“I tried Cas while you were making googly eyes at your girlfriend over breakfast, but he didn't answer, either.”
Sam nodded. It was a small step in the right direction, at least. He just hoped that one of them would return their calls soon.

Love each other the wrong way (Be the young 27)
GIANT TW which will be valid for each episode for suicidal thoughts, SELF H*RM, violence, cursing, relatives dying, mentions of s*x, s*xual assault
All chapter titles are song titles, some of them translated from Italian songs. We start from the first season and make out way through the series. I will break canon (mostly from the S2 finale) but will try to get back into it for the sake of ✨ lore ✨ .
Summary: Emily Reed, born and raised in Portland, is preparing her admission papers for Stanford, medical school. Little does she know, her life is about to change forever.
"After reading this whole letter, call John Winchester. [...] He’s your real father."
A/N:  yesss, we are back to canon (kinda), I’ll try to follow episode by episode, of course I’ll skip some, but this season I’ll have to kind of be detailed with adapting Emily with the lore. ALSO YOU SHOULD KNOW I NAMED RAMIEL BEFORE I WATCHED S12 SO YES HE’S CALLED LIKE THE PRINCE OF HELL SORRY LMAO
MASTERLIST
Love each other the wrong way
There will never be the time to do what we want We drive all of our poetry to hell But you, love me like I would love yourself if you were me and viceversa So bad and without really understanding anything But with the sky at its place in a trafficked city And a life upside down, dreams in half We ran out of happiness
“Sam, for the last time, angels are not a thing!” Said Dean, flustered, sitting around the same table as Sam and Emily. Days had passed since Emily and Dean had their last fight, and nobody had brought it out again. “Dean, I know what you mean-” Interrupted Emily. “But why would two different creatures lie to us about being angels?” “I don't know, maybe they're some kind of demon.” “Castiel is immune to Ruby's knife.” “Yeah, but don't you think that if angels are real, some hunter would have seen one? Ever?” “We just did, Dean.” Sighed Emily. “Look, I'm not saying they are the same angels that we see in movies, just- There is a possibility that angels are a thing.” “You chuckleheads want to keep arguing about religion, or do you want to take a look at this?” Interrupted Bobby, clearly pissed. The three siblings walked to the man and they all rounded up to hear what he had found out.
Later that day, while she was deep into angel lore, Dean entered the room and handed her a phone. “Uh, okay?” She said, confused, taking the object. “It's your phone. They brought it back after you-” He trailed off and exhaled, standing next to Emily’s chair. “I kept it charged.” “Ah.” She opened it. There were a couple of missed calls and a single text from Daniel. It read Where are you? Getting pizza for tonight She immediately thought of Daniel: was he okay, did he know what happened to her? Should she maybe call him and tell him she’s fine? Dean caught her staring at the text message. “Are you okay?” Emily forced her eyes off of the phone. “Yeah, just… it’s nothing.” She concluded, putting the phone away and going back to her book. “Actually…“ Dean exhaled. “I think we should talk.” “Again? Come on, Dean, I don’t feel like fighting right now.” She didn't lift her eyes off the book. “Then let’s not fight.” He sat down on the armchair next to her. “Let’s just… talk.” “Alright.” Emily sighed and closed the book. “What do you want to talk about?” “Hell.” The word resonated in the room for a second before Emily reacted. ”...so you remember.” She sighed and looked away. “I remember you, if that’s what you mean.” He said. “I know, I-” she scrathed her nose. “I remember you down there, but- It's not clear, you know? I’m still trying to piece it together.” ”...right.” Dean suddenly went silent. “So?” Asked Emily. “What did you want to talk about?” “Nothing, it's… it's nothing.” “What do you mean nothing, you came here to talk about hell and now- now it's nothing?” “Yeah, trust me, it's better this way.” “Why don't you just tell me what's going on?” She said, getting nervous. “Nothing is going on.” He said. “If you ever remember, well- then we'll talk about it.” Emily watched him leave, her brain shuffling questions left and right.
That night, Emily went straight to bed. After spending the day trying to reach hunters just to find them all dead, she was exhausted. But when she woke up, someone was staring at her. She hastily grabbed her gun from under her pillow and pointed it towards the person standing in her room, but she soon realized it was someone she knew. She knew him, but he wasn’t supposed to be there. “Daniel?” Was all she could utter while the figure of her boyfriend stared at her. He looked exactly as she remembered him: he had black, ruffled hair and his freckles were all in the same place. But he didn't look alive. He looked pale and worn out, as if he had not slept in months. He looked just like a ghost. “Are you-” She started to lower her gun. “Dead? Yes.” A loud bang informed Emily that something was going on in the rest of the house. She moved the gun back to pointing at Daniel. “I had a good life, you know?” He muttered, angry. “But you had to come and screw it up with all your shit.” “Daniel, I'm sorry, I didn't know this happened to you.” “Of course, how would you know? You have never thought about me again since you decided to call it quits. Thanks for the note, by the way. Very thoughtful.” “I'm sorry, really. Did the Russians do this to you?” “Of course they did.” He exhaled, releasing a small cloud of condensation. “Who else? You escaped, their favorite meat toy, they were desperate to get you back. So desperate that I had to be involved.” Daniel was getting closer and closer, his hands reaching towards her neck. The door slammed open and with a gunshot, Sam made his entrance as the ghost dissipated. “Are you okay?” He asked, gesturing to her to leave the room. “Yes, I'm okay-” She checked herself while Sam tried to hurry her out of her bed.” What's going on?” “We don't know just yet- get into the basement.”
Shielded into the panic room, Emily tried to get her head around the fact that Daniel had died. “Did you know?” She asked Dean. He sighed and looked away. “Oh my god, you did! Why didn't you say anything?!” He didn't answer. “I’ve been back, what- seventy two hours? I already want to punch you!” She stood up to look away from Dean. “Look, we've been having other issues, okay? One of them being a bunch of ghosts trying to hunt us outside that door!” Dean also stood up and pointed to the door. “You lied about how I died, you didn’t tell me by boyfriend is dead, I discovered that all those months of you hitting me like I am some kind of practice target -which of course you haven't said anything about to Sam-” She added, seeing confusion in Sam's eyes. “...have been good to nothing- Can you go one fucking day without-” She stopped. She felt the tears come up for the first time since she had come back from hell and she knew she could not afford to lose her shit at that moment. She clenched her fists. “Without what?!” Asked Dean, “I was going to tell you, just- when we had a moment of peace!” “A moment of peace?” She snapped, angry. “WE NEVER HAVE A MOMENT OF PEACE!” With three steps she was in Dean's face. She knew Sam and Bobby were about to drag her back, but they were stopped by Dean's gesture to wait. He touched her shoulder. “Alright, listen to me. I'm sorry I didn't tell you about Daniel. But it's late now. You need to focus on what's happening now because we are in the middle of a crisis!” Emily tried to get rid of Dean's hold, but he grabbed her from a wrist and stopped her. The second he did, a very quick flashback from hell went through her mind. Dean immediately let go of her wrist, like it was made of fire. When Emily met his gaze, she could almost see the image of hell disappear in his eyes. “Are you done? Because I think I got something.” Said Bobby, scowling at them. Emily gave one last quick look at Dean, who briefly seemed scared but quickly recomposed himself, before taking a step back. “So, the symbol Sam and I saw: the mark of the witness.” “What is that?” Dean went around the table to look at the symbol. “Basically, these people didn't die ordinary deaths and they were forced to rise. They're rabid. More than any other ghost.” “Who forced them to rise?” Asked Emily, sitting back down. “I don't know, but they used a spell and they had big plans. This is the rising of the witnesses.” “Wait- I heard about that…“ Emily was trying to retrieve that information from her brain. “Revelations?” Bobby nodded. “But- isn't that a sign of the apocalypse?” “Yup.” “Apocalypse?” Said Dean, incredulous. “The apocalypse, apocalypse? Four horsemen, 5 dollar gas apocalypse?” “That's the one.” Bobby nodded, opening another book. “Okay, so what do we do now?” Intervened Sam. Dean tried to speak, but Emily was faster. “I think there was a spell- I read it somewhere.” She leaned closer to the pile of books and took out one, passing it to Bobby. “I have to say it, I'm impressed you remember all that.” he said. “I was stuck here with only those books for months, and there's only so much I can clean, you know.” Bobby inspected the spell. “This should work. I've got everything in the house.”
Once the fight was over, they approximately cleaned the place and went to sleep again. However, it seemed like she could not get a full night of sleep, because when Emily woke up, she was not in her room anymore, but in the living room, next to Dean who seemed as confused as her. In front of them were Ramiel, the alleged angel that had brought Emily back and another man in a trench coat. They were both staring at them. Emily gazed at Dean, who slowly advanced towards them. “Excellent job with the witnesses.” Said the unknown man. Emily raised her eyebrows. “So, is this Castiel?” She asked, finally putting the pieces together. The man nodded. “Well, good evening to you too.” She said, sarcastic. “And it would have been nice if you came down to help, you know?” “Emily, tesoro.” Said Ramiel, with a strong Italian accent. “Everything worked out.” “I thought you were supposed to be guardians, not dicks?” Asked Dean. “We're supposed to be warriors.” Answered Castiel, cold. “Well, then fight!” Yelled Emily. “And by the way, when is your boss going to come down here and help us poor bastards?” “As I said already, I'm not here to make you believe.” Ramiel paused, suggestively. “But, if you really need to know, God is busy with something much bigger than your ego.” “Like what? Come on, Al Pacino, humor me.” “The rise of witnesses was one of 66 seals that, if opened, will bring the apocalypse on earth.” “And who-” “Lilith.” Interrupted Castiel. “She's trying to raise Lucifer.” “Lucifer?” Emily raised her eyebrows. “The devil, Lucifer? With horns and goat feet?” “Well, not in that form, but yes. That Lucifer.”

Please can we know about your OCs, I've seen the odd mention to them in your fics on AO3
Oh, I love my OCs and can say so much about them.
THE PLAYERS;
Harry Winters - Goal keeper who moves up from the academy team at 16. Good frieds with Noah and Drew, boyfriend of Chloe.
Ezekiel Noah Gordon - Goes by Noah because he hates his first name. Came up from the academy. Plays as a right back defender. Good friends with Harry and Drew
Andrew "Drew" Cameron - A Scottish trans player who also went to the AFC Richmond academy. Plays as a striker and looks up to Jamie and Dani. Unofficially adopted by Paul and Tom.
THE FAMILY MEMBERS
Isabella "Izzy" Rosenfeldt - Anders girlfriend, later wife. They've been together since they were 15. You know the woman who hugs Anders at the end of the last episode when Richmond wins? This is her, I just made her interesting. She's half Spanish, half American. Her dad works for the US Government which is how she ended up in London.
Erin Reynolds - Paul Reynolds wife. They met at church and are the only Richmond couple to get married in a church due to both of them having a Catholic upbringing. Erin speaks Irish as a first language and didn't learn English until she was 16 when she decided she wanted to go to law school.
Olivia Catherine "Liv" Reynolds - Paul and Erin's eldest child. Named after her godparents. She is smarter than most children her age, likes hanging out with the team and calls them all her uncles. Based on the line "You told my daughter..." in series 2 when everyone has a go at Jamie
Emily Grace Reynolds -Erin and Paul's youngest daughter. Based on the line "What about sonograms?" when everyone has to delete photos off their phones.
Sophie O'Brien - Tom O'Briens wife. They met when Tom accidentally crashed his car into Sophie's. They get married after 6 months because they both like each other and they think it is a good idea. Sophie has a masters degree in chemistry and teaches at a private all girls school. She eventually gives up her job to focus on her PhD.
Pippa Kukoč (nee Edwards) - Sasha Kukoč's girlfriend, later wife. She is a nursing student who has a placement in the local Accident and Emergency department which means she sees a lot of the Richmond players. She is Jeff Goodmans cousin so he disapproved of her relationship at times.
Elizabeth - the fabulous creation of @orbitalpirate, she is a curvy goddess who is loved by Thierry Zoreaux.
Chloe Morgan - Harry's girlfriend. Knows nothing about football beyond what colours Richmond play in. Grew up in care so had a rough start in life. Rebecca offers her a job working for Richmond as a means to support herself and she loves it.
THE PETS
Spagetti the Corgi - Arlo Dixon's corgi. Occasionally looked after by Olivia Reynolds. Spagetti is a rescue dog, so everyone jokes Arlo is a rescue human after he moved in with Jeff.
Alfred Bumbercatch - Moe's cat. Alfred turned up one day and that was that. He is a Sphynx cat so Moe knits him a lot of jumpers.
Arthur the Rabbit - Tommy Winchester's rabbit. Arthur is spoiled and has free run of the house. Decan claims not to like him, this is a lie. Jamie laughs every time he hears the name.
Marshamallow McAdoo-Bumbercatch - Isaac and Moe's Pomeranian puppy that they get when they get married. Pretends not to like Alfred. Isaac treats her like a princess and it shows at times.
Cleo the cat - Jamie and Colin's maine coon cat. She is stubborn and only likes Jamie and Colin. She has been known to poop in the shoes of people she does not like.
Rocky the horse - Izzy's horse, brought for her by Anders after they found out they couldn't have children. Izzy swaps horse tips with Rebecca after Rebecca also gets a horse.
There are more OCs to be added, both human and pets but they are still in development.

Hey! I did a rewrite of the ending of Supernatural. It took a really long time to complete, so it would mean a lot to me if you check it out. Here’s a link! (it’s on my personal account)
---------------------------------
I had no idea how I got dragged out to a bar for the night.
Well, that's not true.
Emily asked me to join the rest of the team.
We were meant to have a fun night after a stressful case. It was going to be fun. Just all of us relaxing without worrying about a case.
I usually wouldn't go to something like that, but when Emily asked, I was pretty happy to join.
After she had joined the team, I found myself just a little... okay... absolutely smitten. She was nice and funny and amazing at her job. I went out of my way to try and make her feel comfortable with the team.
So, yeah... I ended up at the bar because of Emily.
The two of us were sitting around a table with Hotch, Haley, and Garcia. Garcia was focused on watching Morgan dance, but Hotch and his wife were much more interested in the conversation between us.
"How are they treating you at the B.A.U, Emily," Haley asked, having to shout a little over the music.
"She means, am I being nice to you," Hotch corrected.
"Actually, everyone has been incredibly nice," Emily said. I felt her nudge me with her elbow. We both grinned at each other for a moment.
"What about you, (Y/n)," Haley turned to me.
"It's good," I nodded.
"Hotch mentioned something about your brothers," she replied.
I glanced at Hotch. Why the hell had he mentioned that?
"Yeah, they reached out," I shrugged. "It's nice to talk to them both again."
We continued chatting together until J.J walked over with a sad look on her face.
"No," I said instantly.
She stopped.
"I can see the 'we have a case look'," I explained.
"There's a look," Haley asked.
"I don't know, is there J.J," I looked over at her.
J.J sighed, "We have a case."
"I knew it!"
We quickly paid the tab and took off toward the B.A.U office.
"Y'know, it never fails," Morgan complained, pouring himself a cup of coffee. "Just as I'm getting my groove thing going, we're back at the B.A.U."
"Something tells me you will have no trouble getting your 'groove thing' going again," I replied. He stuck his tongue out at me. "Mature."
"Shut up."
"Sorry I'm late," Gideon muttered as he walked in.
"Where were you tonight," Hotch asked.
"I told you, I went to the Smithsonian," he explained.
"Have a good time," I scooted forward in my seat a little bit.
He nodded as he sat down, "I did."
"Well, that's definitely over," J.J said as she stormed in.
We all turned our attention to the screen.
"Georgia," she explained, using the remote to bring up images. "The Kyles; Dennis and Lacy. They were murdered an hour ago in their suburban Atlanta home."
"An hour ago," Hotch asked.
"Police were on scene unusually fast," she continued. "One of the unsubs called them and told them that the other was about to murder the victims."
"You're kidding," Morgan commented.
"From inside the house," she added. "According to the dispatcher. The first male sounded terrified and begged them to get there because the other, who they both identified as Raphael, was about to kill the sinners that lived there."
"Sinners," Hotch noted.
She nodded, "The 9-1-1 center is gonna send Garcia a copy of the tape."
"How fast was police response time," Spencer asked.
"4 minutes, 26 seconds," she replied before clicking the remote again. "In that time, Raphael managed to do this."
The next page was bloody images of the couple. You almost couldn't recognize them. It was passion-based.
"In four and a half minutes," Emily muttered.
J.J went on to explain how rich and relatively popular the husband was. The media was going to be all over the case.
"Do you think Raphael is a real name," I said.
"You think it's not," Gideon looked at me as he spoke.
"Killer identifies himself and is identified by his partner by the name of an archangel and then they kill two 'sinners,'" I replied. "I think it's entirely possible that this man is using a fake name to manipulate his partner, or truly believes himself to be the archangel. If he's hunting sinners, he's on a mission."
"And he won't stop on his own because the mission will never be completed," Hotch added. I nodded.
"That explains why this was prominently displayed at the scene," J.J pulled up an image of a blood-splattered bible that had a section highlighted.
"Revelations, chapter 6, verse 8," Hotch noted.
"Definite mission," I replied.
"Let's go," Hotch said as he stood up. "Wheel's up."
--time skip--
It wasn't until there were two more victims that we had gotten anything more than a theory. One was a confirmed death; the other was an abduction as far as we knew.
There was a record of a call to the police from outside of the first victim's house. Something about a witness seeing someone outside.
Hotch sent J.J and me out to ask the man who had called.
Tobias Hankel.
We had driven all the way out to the farm only to have the door pretty much slammed in our faces. He denied knowing anything. He refused to even acknowledge the call had ever occurred.
"Why make a call to the police and then deny it ever happened," J.J asked as we got ready to get in the car.
I paused, about to get in, "To check response time."
"What?"
"If you were going to call the cops before you killed someone, you need to know how much time you have," I explained. "He was checking how fast they responded."
"Tobias Hankel's the unsub."
I nodded before pulling out my gun, "I'm going around back to see what I can find. Get a hold of the team."
"(Y/n)-"
"Trust me."
I circled the back of the building. I found a window looking in on a wall of computer skins. Each one was linked to another person's computer camera. That's how he had been tracing his victims.
I heard something shift behind me.
I turned around quickly, managing to grab whatever Tobias was about to swing at me and pull it away from him. I threw the object out into the cornfield and tried to point my gun at him.
He grabbed my wrist and yanked me forward.
It was almost an instinct and it probably made zero sense to J.J, but as he did, I yelled out to her, "Poughkeepsie!"
Tobias grabbed my throat and slammed me again the wall of the house. I frantically tried to kick at him, desperate to get out and start running.
His grip loosened for a moment, "I don't want to do this."
It tightened again, his voice suddenly deeper and gruffer, "This is the lord's work son."
I barely had time to put the pieces together as black dots filled my visions. The last thing I felt before losing consciousness was my body hitting the ground underneath me.
--time skip--
I came to and found myself tied to a chair.
I was in some small shed. My face scrunched up on instinct. It smelled awful.
"They're gone."
My eyes focused in on the man in front of me. Tobias.
"Who's they," I asked.
"It's just me," he continued.
"Okay," I nodded. "Who are you?"
His spine straightened as he looked down at me, "My name is Raphael."
My heart dropped. Angels weren't real. I knew that. Of all of the monsters in the world, the angels were the only ones that I knew for certain didn't exist.
"What is that smell," I asked.
"They're burning fish hearts and livers," he explained. "Keeps away the devil."
"Pretty sure salt works just as well," I mumbled.
"Don't challenge me," he snapped. "They believe you can see inside men's minds."
"No," I replied. "I just study human behavior. It's a science-"
"Hush," he pulled out a gun, holding up one bullet for me to see. "I'm not interested in the arguments of man. Do you know what this is?"
"A bullet," I answered. I was admittedly being a bit of a smartass considering I was facing the man who kidnapped me.
"It's God's will."
"If he exists, God gave up on us a long time ago."
Go figure, the old hunter had religious trauma.
He held the gun up to my head.
"You don't have to kill me."
"I am just an instrument of God," he replied.
I closed my eyes and looked down. I refused to give him the satisfaction of watching me react to his shot.
The gun clicked... and nothing happened.
That was the beginning of my journey through hell.
--Dean's P.O.V--
I told Sam to sit his ass down as I grabbed my phone. I didn't want to pull (Y/n) away from working but suddenly finding our brother covered in blood with little to no memory of how he ended up there felt like a good reason to ask for help.
I dialed the number quickly, pacing around the small motel room as I did.
"Hello," I was caught very off-guard when a gruff voice answered the phone.
"Who the hell is this," I asked.
"This is Aaron Hotchner with the F.B.I," the voice replied. Shit. (Y/n)'s boss. "Is this Sam or Dean?"
I fought whether or not to lie.
"Okay, you don't have to answer," the man continued when I didn't respond.
"Why do you have (Y/n)'s phone," I questioned, putting the call on speaker. Sam furrowed his eyebrows.
"(Y/N)...," the man trailed off and sighed. "(Y/n) was abducted last night."
Sam and I looked at each other immediately.
"We're doing everything in our power to find them," Aaron explained. "We have the team focused on it."
"Where did they go missing," I asked, running a hand over my face.
"Rural area outside of Atlanta," he replied. "I promise I will call with any updates."
"You better," I snapped. Sam glared at me. I just glared back.
I heard Aaron mumbling back to someone. Sam and I looked at the phone, trying to listen in on what they were discussing.
"What's going on," I finally spoke up.
"What do you know about the word 'Poughkeepsie,'" Aaron asked.
Sam and I both froze.
"It's... It's an old code word from when the three of us were kids," I explained, trying to avoid all of the hunting terms. "Think there's danger, say Poughkeepsie."
"(Y/n) apparently shouted it when they were grabbed," he explained. "What does it mean? What do you do when you hear it?"
"Drop everything and run," Sam spoke up for the first time. "Whoever (Y/n) yelled that too... they were trying to protect them."
There was a long pause on the other line.
"We'll call you with any updates."
With that, the line went dead.
Sam and I looked at each other. We needed to get out of here and to wherever (Y/n) was being held.
--(Y/n)'s P.O.V--
I was tired.
I could feel the blood drying on the side of my head and there were bruises forming all over.
When Raphael wasn't ranting to me, Charles was attempting to beat me in the hopes that I would confess my sins. I refused to break. After a while, I just went silent.
I wouldn't speak unless I knew Tobias was in the driver's seat.
I hissed when Charles grabbed my hair and pulled my head up so I would face him.
"Are you ready," he asked. I clenched my jaw and glared at him. He let go of my hair. "My weakling son thinks God gave you to him for a reason. Let's see if we're both right."
He circled me, turning my chair so I was staring at a camera and four computers, each streaming someone else's camera feed. He turned on the camera.
"You can really see inside men's minds," he said. "These vermin. Choose one to die. I'll let you choose one to live."
"No," I replied instantly.
Even as a hunter, I didn't get to choose life versus death. I saved as many people as possible. It was almost a code.
"I thought you wanted to be some kind of savior," he snapped as he marched over.
"You're a sadist in a psychotic break and I never said that," I replied. "You won't stop killing. Your word's not true."
"What do you think you are, some kind of prophet?"
"No, I just think I'm adorable," I said sarcastically. "I will not choose a person to sentence to death."
Charles looked down at the camera, "The other heathens are watching. Choose a sinner to die, and I'll say the name and address of the person to be saved."
"I won't choose a person to be slaughtered in the twisted name of God," I looked into the camera. "I won't choose whose remains you leave behind like a poacher."
Subtle hints. That was my only way out. He grabbed my hair again so I would face him.
"Can you really see into my mind," he asked. I clenched my jaw. "Can you see I'm not a liar? Choose one to die, save a life. If you don't, they all die."
I let out a pained breath as he let go and stepped back again.
"Alright," I muttered. "I'll choose who lives."
I scanned the screens for a few moments. There was no right answer to this question.
"Far right screen," I said.
I closed my eyes as he read out her name and address. When I opened them again, his posture had changed.
"Raphael," I mumbled. He walked over and turned off the camera.
"You've done your part," he explained. "Now, it's my turn."
I was left waiting until I saw something on the monitor. That night, a couple was slaughtered in their living room. I watched it happen. I shut my eyes tightly.
I sobbed as I saw the cops walk through the scene.
I saw Hotch hand something over to Gideon as he walked to the computer.
"(Y/n), you are not responsible for this," he said bluntly. "He's using the word of God to justify murder. You have done nothing wrong. Hold out just a little while longer. We will find you. You are stronger than him. He cannot break you."
I looked down.
I knew in my heart that he was right. It was just hard to believe that when I was in this position.
I let out a breath.
The door slammed open a little while later.
I barely looked up before Tobias knelt in front of me. I could tell by the look on his face. It was soft. Scared.
"Tobias," I mumbled.
"You're like me," he said as he tied something around my arm. "I can see it when you talk to my dad. You... You had a dad like him, right?"
I shook my head.
"Yes, you did," he insisted.
"My dad was a bastard," I confirmed. "But he wouldn't instruct me to kill random people that hadn't hurt anyone. He would never use his role as my dad to do that."
Tobias reached into his pocket as finished securing the tie on my arm. He pulled out a needle and a vial.
"No," I said immediately. "No, no. Don't do this."
"It's going to help."
"Tell me where we are and my friends can help," I tried to move away, but it was impossible. "Please, don't do this. I don't want it-"
"It's going to help," he repeated.
"Tobias, stop, please-"
I let out a pained gasp as the needle found its place in my arm. As he pushed down on the syringe, I felt my mind getting foggy. I found myself losing consciousness as it moved through my veins.
I didn't come back to the conscious world for a few hours.
When I did, Charles was watching the computers. A virus notification popped up. He started panicking before turning to face me.
"They're trying to silence my message."
"I can't control what they do," I replied. "I'm not with them."
"Really?"
He pressed a button. The video of Hotch played again. My jaw clenched. He turned all of the computers off.
"You think you can defy me."
"I have no idea what he's talking about," I said.
"You're a liar! You got it into my son's head that he should defy me! Disrespect the word of God."
The camera turned on again.
"This ends now," he said.
I felt my heart speed up as he walked over.
"Confess your sins."
"I have nothing to confess."
I tried not to make any noise as his hand swung down at my face.
"I said confess."
"I have nothing to confess."
Another hit landed.
"Tobias," I tried to get through to him. "You can stop them."
"He can't help you," Charles snapped. "He's weak."
"Tobias-"
"Confess!"
I gasped for air when he grabbed my throat again. I struggled for a moment, trying to fight him even though I was already so tired.
I heard something in my neck crack just before the world went dark.
When I was able to see again, I wasn't in the shed.
I was home.
In Kansas. My family home was intact. Standing in all of its glory. I looked over as I heard the rumbling of an engine. I watched the impala pull up to the house. My dad stepped out of the car.
"What're you doing, kid," he asked. I just stared at him. "Come on. Your mom is waiting. Your brothers will be by any time now."
I ran over and hugged him tightly. He chuckled as he hugged me back.
"Come on, kid," he pushed me to the house.
I ran in ahead of him. I saw my mom. Mary. Standing there in front of me. Alive. Breathing.
"Mom," I whispered, running over to hug her. I started crying as I held onto her. "I missed you."
"I missed you too."
I stepped back and she cupped the side of my face.
"You grew up well," she commented. I grinned. "You're a hero."
I nodded.
"I love you."
"I love you too, Mom."
And then, she was gone. Everything was gone. The world around me went black again.
"No," I whispered. "Mom! Dad!"
I let out a sob.
"Come back... please."
I hissed and closed my eyes as a bright light surrounded me. It felt warm. Like it was trying to burn through my skin.
"Not... yet," I heard in some deep voice that sounded like it was fighting through static.
A burning touch seared into the skin by my collarbone, and I felt like I was suddenly shoved backward. I felt like I was falling down a bottomless pit, waiting for the harsh impact of the ground.
I gasped loudly as I was suddenly awake again. It felt like I had been slammed back into my body. I looked around. I was still on the floor of the shed. Still tied to the chair.
What the hell was that?
I didn't have time to question much before the chair was pulled up. Before I was met with Tobias's face again, I saw a gravestone off to the side.
I was still exhausted.
The camera was still on.
"You came back to life," Raphael said.
"And you killed me," I replied. "Let's call it even."
"I can only be for one of two reasons-"
"I can think of at least ten-"
"How many members are on your team," he asked.
"8," I replied.
"There are seven angels that held the seven trumpets prepared to sound," he continued. "So, you must not be one of death."
"That's a stretch," I muttered.
"Tell me who you serve."
I understood what was happening. My team were the angels of death. I was somehow not one of them. I had one way out of this.
"You," I replied.
"Choose one to die."
"What?"
"Choose a member of your team to die."
"No," I shook my head.
"They are evil," he explained. "You said you were not one of them."
"I'm a liar."
"There are seven other members of your team. Choose one to die."
"No."
He pointed a gun at my head.
"Choose and prove you'll do God's will."
"No."
He pulled the trigger. Empty click.
"Choose."
"No."
Another click.
"Life is a choice."
"I won't play your game."
Another click.
"Choose."
I took a deep breath as I stared down the barrel of the gun. They had Spencer. He was a genius. Perfect memory. He was the only reason this plan would work.
The Winchester way: choose the plan that may be the dumbest.
"I choose... Spencer Reid," I said, trying to not shake as I spoke. "He's a classic narcissist. He insists that he's the best member of the team. Genesis 23:4: Let him not deceive himself and trust in emptiness, vanity, falseness, and futility, for these shall be his recompense."
The gun was pointed over my head and a gunshot rang out.
Raphael loaded another bullet, "For God's Will."
I was dragged out into the field. It was then I felt a burning by my collarbone. I yelped just as he threw me to the ground.
The burn had followed me back. What the hell?
A shovel was thrown in front of me.
"I'm sorry," he softened again.
"Tobias," I said. He nodded. "Hey, it's okay. I'm okay."
"He'll win in the end."
I tried to ignore the dread in my stomach.
"Tobias," I asked. "This is a cemetery, right?"
He nodded. I grinned to myself. Nothing more was said before his demeanor changed again. Raphael.
"You're a liar," I said. "There are no angels. And even if there were, they would never act as you have."
"You think angels don't kill in the name of God?"
"They wouldn't kill outside of God's plan. And I know this isn't it."
"What do you know of God?"
"I know that he filled the world with monsters and evil, and then sat back to watch us play," I explained. "He made some of us warriors. To fight the evil he made; you are that evil. Our world is nothing more than his favorite thing to watch. But he forced all of us to worship him like he anything more than an absent father."
"Dig."
I grabbed the shovel and started digging. I had dug a grave before. I wasn't scared of this.
I only paused when I spotted a few flashlights off in the distance.
"What are you stopping for," he asked.
I ignored him and continued digging. I saw another flashlight and stopped. Charles took over.
"Dig faster."
I looked at him, "I'm too weak."
"All of you are!"
He threw his jacket and gun to the side. He shoved me away and took the shovel, starting to dig for me. I slowly crawled closer to his jacket.
I grabbed the gun and pointed it at him. He grabbed the one he had stolen from me and pointed it.
"There's only one bullet in that gun."
"I'm faithful."
I pulled the trigger and listened to the gunshot ring out. His body fell to the ground.
"(Y/n)," I heard someone yell out.
"Here," I shouted, voice cracking. I pulled myself to the body. I saw the soft look on his face. "Tobias?"
He was still breathing, but he wasn't going to survive. I knew that.
"Am I... Am I free now," he asked. I nodded. "Am I going to see my mom again?"
I felt tears in my eyes, "I... I hope so, Tobias."
He reached over and grabbed my hand. I held onto his hand, forcing a small grin.
"Thank you."
The grip weakened as he closed his eyes and let go. He was gone.
I stared down at him until I heard someone yell my name again.
I looked up, having to shield my eyes from the flashlight.
"Oh my god," I saw Emily run over. She pulled me up into a hug. I hissed when my shirt was pressed to the burn. She jumped back. "Are you okay?"
"I... I got burned somehow," I muttered. "I don't know when."
I looked over to see Spencer walking over. I moved around Tobias and tried to go as fast as I could.
"Spencer, I'm sorry, I just needed you to get the hint and-"
"I know," he nodded. I was pulled into a side hug as he tried to be mindful of my burn.
"Let's go get you some help," Emily said. I nodded.
As we made it to the ambulance that was waiting, I looked off toward the road. For just a moment, I thought I saw something. A black car in the distance.
I grinned. They had found me too.
--time skip--
It was late when Hotch finally convinced the team to go back to the motel. He stayed back for a moment.
"I promised to keep some people updated," he explained. "I'm gonna wait until they get here."
"You called my brothers," I asked.
"Well, one of them called your phone and ended up speaking to me."
I nodded.
We sat in silence until we heard loud footsteps heading down the hall.
When Sam and Dean ended up in the doorway, I felt tears well up in my eyes again.
"I'll give you guys the room," Hotch said before walking out.
"Hi," I muttered in a shaky voice.
"Holy crap," Dean walked over and hugged me carefully. Someone must've mentioned the burn to them.
I leaned my head on his shoulder as I started crying. Sam reached out and grabbed my hand.
It was nice.
Through all of the tears and panic. It was nice to have them there. It was nice to know that the three of us had gotten back to normal.
"Thank you," I mumbled to them. "Thank you for being here."
"Of course," Sam replied.
"We're your brothers," Dean muttered. "You're stuck with us."
I nodded.
I was perfectly okay with that.
