Another much overdue ask compilation! Some short-ish lore asks (Gale, Gort, DU drow relationships and pet-companion preferences) and a couple of art/advice ones sprinkled in. THIS IS BY NO MEANS ALL OF MY ASKS so as usual I appreciate everyone's patience!

I actually think he'd give them a pass entirely as soon as he noticed. Correct me if I'm mistaken but half-drow get No love from underdark drow and are usually surface babies right? So that fruit is miles away from the tree lol. I think he generally has a bit of a soft spot for mixed kinds since he himself feels like an amalgamation of sorts.

Thank you! They're kind of a pain in the ass to draw at times for that very reason but man I do like the look 😩if other people like it too then that makes it all worth it!

THAT'S TRICKY TO ANSWER BECAUSE OFTEN TIMES I'M NOT... REALLY TRYING. I've draw a ton of horror comics for mine and my partner's series' SAD SACK and SORTIE, so I think it just comes naturally to me 😅 also I do genuinely find expressive and, uh, rugged faces more attractive? (I think they look rugged, again that's what people tell me at least.)

I think the secret might be adding bits of realism in there. I get a lot of comments about the wrinkles and eyelashes I add to my art, as well as the way I draw individual teeth (though I've lately been making an effort to simplify my style in favor of drawing faster, so I haven't done that as much or in as much detail.)

Both symmetry and the lack of it can also add to that effect. I have employed both facial unevenness and almost point-perfect symmetry to achieve something a little frightening or otherworldly in my work. [MORE UNDER THE CUT]

Hahah well I somewhat doubt Bhaal would care that his spawn gets named, but either way he stripped himself of his name as soon as he killed his foster parents and abandoned the Underdark. He had a drow name that I jotted down somewhere but it's completely irrelevant because nobody has used it since he was a child, and he doesn't remember it (even pre-tadpole/having his brain scrambled.) Everyone just referred to him as his supposed race, or as Bhaalspawn or Bhaal's child, and any other similar titles. Orin called him "kin" and "brother" and Gortash likely called him his associate. Post-tadpole the camp grows entirely used to calling him "the drow" and he has no desire to change that or to choose a proper name.

THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH😭 no reason to be intimidated, I'm just some rando drawing BG3 fan art LOL I've been drawing since I was a child, and started taking it semi-seriously when I was 16 years old, so twelve years ago! That's around the time where I got my first non-display tabled and used that well into my twenties, prior to that I only did stuff on paper and liked to do inks color with pencils. I never really ventured into traditional painting at all except for a little bit of water-coloring in college.

Traditional and Digital art are very much different beasts. Which one you want to start with is, in my opinion, just dependent on what you want to do. Digital art gives you a lot of tools that makes learning easier, but you might find yourself having much steeper of a learning curve if you ever decide to do traditional art instead. If you want to be good at both, you need to practice both, since the skill doesn't entirely translate from one medium to the other.

Naturally you will be able to draw well on either, it's just... Different. I will say though, that I think if you're still learning you should use whatever allows you to look directly at what your hand is doing, so either traditional or display tablet/Ipad. I have no idea what a non-display tablet would do to a beginner, but remembering my experience with it I feel like it might be a huge detriment to developing the skill (feel free to share your experiences in the replies if you disagree, as I would definitely be curious to read them!)

YOU KNOW ME BABY IT WAS MESSY AND COMPLICATED the tldr.: is that they were "buddies", absolutely no romance intended there on either mine or DU drow's part, but due to his nature the friendship was extremely weird.

That's definitely reserved for the vamp LOL DU drow very much enjoys when Astarion teases and fusses over him, and while Astarion probably got a kick out of acting that way around such a big and scary looking guy at first, I think by "now" (later and post-game) he's pretty much immune to DU drow's looks and just enjoys doing it in earnest.

He's not at all averse to being touched (even rather intimately) by close friends, but he wouldn't be quite THAT vulnerable with anyone else.

HE REALLY DISLIKED GALE... He irked him out by seemingly fostering a rather persistent romantic interest in him for at least half the time they spent together (very much based on my interpretation of their in-game interactions at the time, though my Gale might have been a little bugged.)

But also they had a... Fairly in depth relationship still? Gale was a staple in my party, and even though I antagonized him constantly by the end of the game it still felt like they had so much weight in each other's lives, if that makes sense. I might need to do a bit of an "update" on the DU Drow/Gale lore sometime, I feel like I've had some thoughts since that warrant more exploration of their dynamic (you can find a lot of old asks about it if you just search the Gale Dekarios tag in my blog though).

The gist of it is that DU drow found him arrogant and duplicitous, his constant optimist irritated him to no end and felt like it veiled a stream of self-pity (two things DU drow despises) Gale's attempts to get through to him only added insult to injury. By the end of the game he decided to pursue the crown of Karsus and this only lost him even more respect in Drow's eyes, seeing as he doesn't value godly power at all.

I was pretty overwhelmed by the game at the start so I actually missed a lot LOL including Scratch. I did get the owlbear cub though, which DU drow gladly welcomed into camp since it was injured - but I think he would have wished for it to remain a wild animal and to return back to it's home after it had grown up a bit. He didn't really make a "pet" out of it more than he just looked after the little guy in the way it's mother might have, probably with Shadowheart's help.

He wouldn't be opposed to proper pets though if one were to stumble into his life. He'd definitely be more of a cat guy because of their independence and strong little attitudes.

It is very hard to build proper rapport with him. He will be "friendly" to most people who have a good sense of humor about them, but friendSHIP is another thing entirely.

I think it's kind of circumstantial. He's very economical in his relationships and doesn't really seek them out at all - so a situation where he's forced to be in someone's company might be the only way to develop a bond with him, as he doesn't appreciate insistence either and that's more likely to push him away. He doesn't value status or titles either (kind of looks down on them really) so that won't help.

I think he just likes people who are true to themselves and their nature, sometimes even if the nature is one he disagrees with at it's core. This is why he liked Gortash, why he and Shadowheart got along so well, and why him and Astarion fit together so seamlessly despite seeming so different. Likewise I think it's why he didn't jive with people like Gale or Wyll, because they seemed to be rather... Dishonest with themselves and their own end-goals.

hi Habs! :D i love your art and have seen ppl say they want to eat it and i would also like to partake lol. have you ever explained your methods of doing digital art? i love traditional but i would like to branch out into digital. i've tried different applications like krita, sketchbook, and sketch.io but i don't really vibe with them (if that makes sense). any tips?

Hello ! Haha thank you ! Totally get what you mean about vibes, I’ve used a few different programs, and I like paint tool sai and clip studio paint the most, and mostly use csp now !

Took me a long time to get into digital art, and the biggest breakthrough I had was that I didn’t have to do line art lol, now I only do it when necessary and 99% of my stuff is cleaned up sketches. Changing my process completely changed how I felt about my art for the better. It keeps my work dynamic, and also lessens feeling of the sketch looking better than the linework!

Generally my process is sketch, duplicate the layer and clean it (sometimes put the old layer on a low opacity so I can make sure I’m staying true to the sketch, so it’s like lineart with extra steps lol) then I block in one colour under the lines, either make a new layer with a clipping mask, or lock the opacity and colour on that layer.

For colouring, I usually use a single layer, I put down messy flats and shadows then clean it up and render it, add highlights and funky details and then I’m done. I’ve explained my colouring process here before, and I have a time lapse that shows my sketching/colouring process here.

I have shaky hands, so a lot of my brushes have stabilization turned up, usually I set it at 15 on csp brushes idk how that translates to other programs though.

For my sketches/clean up, I like using brushes that have little to no variation in brush size, and have varying density or opacity. Not for everyone but I like how it makes my work look and I end up liking my stuff a lot more like that. Usually I keep my sketches at the start really light and build up pressure as I clean

In general, I think the best thing to do is try a whole bunch of methods and figure out what works and what doesn’t! Lots of people have very different processes, so looking at how other artists work and trying out how they do stuff for yourself can be great for learning! Good luck with digital art!

Thank you so much, I'm gonna respond to all the lovely folks who asked me here too about the weirdly specific art ask game! (Thank you to @phantomseptember, @wyrmzier , @grumpyoldsnake, @philcoulson-redtapeninja @swordsandspectacles and the other anons for asking!)

1. Art programs you have but don't use? I don’t think I have one! I’ve been playing on Photoshop for so long, though I’m thinking on getting Clip Paint Studio for comics at one point!

2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)? Mmmm, often find I draw folks looking to the left, but wouldn’t say I prefer one way or the other, especially when I’m flipping the canvas at least three times to make sure they’re all even!

3. What ideas come from when you were little? Mmm, lots of fantasy things, I have this old story about the green man that I made when I was 16 and it’s been rolling and remade ever since! It really needs another go other, it was my first dip into anything non cisgender before I knew, y’know?

4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw? Mmm, probably cars. Hate drawing cars, so annoying.

5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself? Ohhh, probably, 80%, but that’s what happens when you’re chronically online like me lol

10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw? Mmm, love a big floofy skirt or shirt, all those folds, very hard but so satisfying when I get rolling

12. Easiest part of body to draw? Mmm, eyes n’ mouth? I wanted to get good at them ever since I was a kid, cause they’re the expressive bits! I want to get better at Hands, the gay part of the body.

13. A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing? I honestly can’t think of any? I guess I try n see the good in any art, even if it’s not my vibe; the colours, the lines… There’s always something

15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)? At home! I try and keep Digital art to my desk, but If I’m doing ink art for fun, it’s on my bedroom floor, praying that I don’t mess the carpet

20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy? Mmmmmm, mouths and hair?

21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways? Ohhh, mmm, lineless art! the amount of effort that goes into it, love it!

27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with? Iiii should be doing it more! But it’s usually a pretty lady with voluminous hair and fangs, it’s a good go to!

Gus Knows Shawn Knows That He's Telling The Truth

(So note: I have that thing where I can't picture images in my head, so I have no fucking clue how it works for people who actually can picture stuff, so uhhhh if I describe memories/imagination weird, that's why.)

"Come on, that's not right and you know it! I just can't see it when I play it out in my head."

"Gus, play it back in your brain, I know we saw the same thing."

"I just don't see it playing out that way, there's something more here."

It's years of these comments before Gus finally asks, "Okay, what do you mean by that?"

"Hmm?" Shawn looks up from his laptop. "What, the camera grain thing? I told you they swapped to digital on season 4, Gus, you didn't need to google it to believe me."

"Not that, and I still don't believe they'd disrespect classic film like that. I mean the way you talk about remembering and imagining things."

Shawn sits back, eyes fully off his laptop. "How do you mean?"

"I've just never heard anyone talk about that kind of thing the way you do. Like it's a movie or something."

"I mean, it basically is," Shawn says with a shrug. "What, yours isn't?"

"No, Shawn!"

"What is it like, then?"

"I don't know. When I imagine something it's not like watching a movie, though. I have to work at picturing things, at least a little."

"Huh. Weird. Half the time I just see things, literally in front of my eyes." Shawn waves his hand in front of his face. "Literally, when I remember something I stop seeing things around me and see the memory. Same for when I piece things together, I stop seeing things around me and see what I imagine happened."

"Wait, what?" Gus sits up straighter, brow creasing. "You stop seeing things?"

"Again, you don't?"

"No! People don't literally see memories, Shawn, that's crazy."

"Huh." Shawn looks thoughtful. "Must be the eidetic memory thing, then. I thought everyone could literally rewatch things they saw, just, in worse quality. Sort of fuzzy, a little grainy. Sometimes things are highlighted."

"You're not pulling my leg, are you? That's really how your brain works?"

"How else did you think it worked?"

"I don't know! You know it's almost impossible to verbalize the inner workings of the mind and imagination!"

"I think I just did it pretty well, actually."

"Whatever, Shawn. I'm looking this up online, and i I find out you're messing around again, you owe me ice cream."

"And if you discover I'm telling the truth, you owe me ice cream."

"Deal."

"Told you." Shawn flicks his balled-up candy wrapper at the trashcan and misses.

"But it doesn't say anything about stuff being highlighted, so I still win."

"No, that doesn't count. Clearly that's just a side effect of The Sweetness mixing with the memory."

"And it's only near visual, it doesn't say anything about literally being unable to see the things around you."

"So mine is just stronger, probably because Dad had me sharpen it. ... Damn, I just gave him credit for something, didn't I? pretend you didn't hear that."

"Plus, it only applies to actual memories. You said it also happens when you imagine things. Check and mate."

"It does! Well, not always. Usually just on a case, or when I try pulling the psychic mojo out."

"Nope. Internet says you're lying about that."

"Well, then the Internet is the one lying. Which one do you believe, Gus? Your best friend for your whole life, or some random person with a laptop and love of lying?"

"You also have a love of lying, Shawn."

"... You've got me there."

"Thanks." Gus hangs up, and looks over at Shawn's desk, smiling smugly.

"Well, that's not good." Shawn checks his drawers for pranks, but nothing. "Alright, what'd you do? Am I about to stand up and have paint all over my butt or something?"

"I called your mom."

"You know her new number?"

Okay, that's can't go unaddressed. "I got her business number from the web. You don't know her personal number?"

Shawn just shrugs.

"Your folks are messed up. Now I wish I hadn't called her."

"I do too. Why'd you do it if we both agree it was a bad idea?"

"To talk about the memory thing."

"Again? Gus, I thought we dropped this last week."

"We did. And then you said that you just couldn't 'see' my suspect doing it on our last case."

"So perfectly normal phrases are cause for interrogating my parents now?"

"Yes, because, she said that's not how it works."

"Hers is only sounds, Gus."

"She said it's still not how it works, even with visuals. Your imagined wrap-up scenarios shouldn't be as vivid as your actual memories, and you shouldn't be unable to see the actual world around you when you remember things. She was really worried about that until I told her you were messing with me."

"I'm not!" Shawn leans forward. "Here, I'll do it right now." He puts his fingers to his head, and Gus rolls his eyes.

"Shawn, I've seen you do it a million times."

"Yeah, but get up and do something while I do this."

"You can just say you didn't see what I was doing."

Shawn yanks his hands down and clicks his tongue. "Man, what do I have to do to convince you that this is how my brain works?"

"I hope you can't, because then that means you have hallucinations all the time, and I know you wouldn't go to a doctor about it."

"Hallucinations," Shawn huffs with a humorless laugh. "That's totally different, man. I'm not seeing or hearing things that aren't there around me, I'm using things I know to make a scene in mind and playing it out."

"But it's directly interfering with your perception of the current reality." Gus's smug look slides off as Shawn doesn't make any jokes back. "... You're really serious about this?"

"Oh, now that I might have something wrong with my brain-"

"No, Shawn, I didn't mean it like that." Gus stands up. "But you're serious? About seeing stuff like it's really happening, right in front of you?"

"Not always in front." There's a seriousness to Shawn's voice that Gus doesn't hear often. It's not angry, it's not upset, but it's not lighthearted either. It's... genuine. A little vulnerable. "Sometimes off to the side or behind me. It's clearer when I have more information or a solid idea to play off, and I'm not there. Not usually, anyway. It's more like TV, like I said, and I'm the camera, but I'm not a person."

Shawn glances up at Gus for one second before quickly looking away, searching his desk for something to fiddle with. "You're sure that's not how it works for everyone else?"

"Pretty sure." Gus sits in the armchair closest to Shawn's desk. "Shawn-"

"Did you ask my dad?"

"What?"

"If he sees things that way."

"No."

"So maybe it's from him." Shawn hunches back over his desk to keep doodling pineapples. "Probably some kind of trick or technique he drilled into my head."

"But-"

"I'm not seeing things." The sudden defensiveness makes Gus snap his mouth shut. Shawn balls up the paper and tosses it into the trashcan without looking. It goes right in, dead center. "Look man- it's enough that I can't just walk in a room or go on a date without all of this going on."

Shawn waves his hands by his head. Gus thinks this is the first time he's heard Shawn complain about his gift themselves, and not just the way his dad always pressures him to use them.

"If I'm hallucinating on top of that, I just don't want to know. So let's drop it."

"... Okay." Gus looks out the window. "You want some peanuts then?"

It works, Shawn's body language relaxing again. "Not today, I saw him sneeze into his hand and then fill a bag without the scooper yesterday."

"What?!"

Gus snaps his laptop shut, but it's too slow. Shawn's mouth quirks at the corners, like he's so overwhelmingly, evilly gleeful that his face can't process it yet.

"It's not what you think."

"Gus." Shawn puts a hand on his best friend's shoulder. "Gus, buddy. It's a lie, remember? If you need me to explain my process more just say so."

"I was just looking, Shawn."

"At How TO Tell If You're Psychic websites? Come on, buddy." Shawn pats his shoulder again and drops a packet of powered doughnuts onto the desk before sitting down in one of the window armchairs. "At least try to come up with a good backstory man. Wait, let me guess."

"No-"

But Shawn already has his eyes closed. "You came in today and sat around for all of five minutes before looking it up, because you're a fool."

"How'd you know-"

"The sweetness. Plus you had like a million tabs open already."

"Yeah, well." Gus adjusts himself in his chair, refusing to feel ashamed. "These websites say you're not alone."

"They all say that Gus, they're about ghosts."

"No, with the way you see things. Most of these are just random garbage, but some of the dinkier ones actually say the same as what you described when you imagine stuff."

"Gus-"

"I'm not saying you're psychic, but I'm saying that based on what I've found, you're not the only person who thinks like that. In fact, based on what I read, your eidetic memory and detective training work hand-in-hand with what you've got."

"What I've got?"

"And overactive imagination and out-of-body experiences."

"Great." Shawn stands up and grabs the doughnuts back.

"Hey!"

"People who psychoanalyze me don't get doughnuts, Gus."

"I'm not psychoanalyzing you! You seemed upset that I thought it was weird-"

Shawn scoffs. "When has that ever upset me? I'm proudly eccentric."

"-so I wanted to show you it's not that unusual. I was trying to be nice, Shawn."

"Well, you did it poorly, because now I know my brilliant mind works the same as people who think they can actually speak with ghosts."

Gus tsks at Shawn and opens his laptop back up. He goes back to reading the page, and glances up at his friend from behind his screen. "... Hey Shawn?"

"Yeah?"

"You think the peanut guy is still sick?"

"Nah, he should be fine." Shawn pulls out some paperwork from the station and groans. "A fi- really? We're filing things away now? Why'd you have them send this over?" He reads it. "What is this, a witness statement? Gus."

"Nothing to do with me."

"It's got a note from Buzz stapled to it that says 'Here's what you asked for, Gus, have a good day.' Look, he added a smiley face. That's adorable."

Stop calling full grown men 'adorable'."

"He's not a full-grown man. He's a full grown Labrador that turned into a man, and you can't prove me wrong. ... This is from our last case."

Gus starts to sweat.

Shawn narrows his eyes. "This is the statement about the thing with the van..." He looks up. "Gus... why exactly did you ask me to explain that deduction to you in as much detail as possible?"

"Just curious, like I said then." He knows it's a bad lie. Even a non-Shawn would clock it.

"Oh, Gus. Buddy, you're not seriously thinking I'm psy-"

"Why're you checking the mail anyway? You never do that."

"I felt like checking it today."

"Why? Felt important?"

"Oh my god."

"I can see it, clearly!" Shawn shouts, hand to his head as he stands atop the picnic table in the park. He swivels around, pointing among the crowd of soccer moms gathered for their now ruined potluck. "You, June, despised Carol for her status among the neighborhood! The best barbecues, the best garden, the best book club picks-"

"This is absurd," June spits, looking frantically at Jules and Lassie. "You can't believe him!"

"AH!" Shawn stumbles back, squishing a plate of lasagna under his shoe. "Oh, sorry, um- it was all veggie anyway, it's-it's not much of a loss. Ahem. Oh, OH, OH! I feel it! I see it and I feel it! You and Carol were both looking to become head of the PTA, and you knew she was a shoo-in! It was just one more in a long line of titles you wanted that she took!"

"She didn't even want to ban the right books from the classrooms!" June backs away. "She-she flaunted everything! She was tacky!"

"You couldn't stand it." Shawn points at her. "You just couldn't stand it, any longer! She got the house you wanted, her husband got the promotion over yours, she got the parties and the gossip and all you got were passive-aggressive pies!"

"Those stupid pies," June seethes.

"That's what she's most upset about?" Jules says, not whispering but not shouting.

"It was the final straw. You went to her house and you gave the pie back, but she laughed at you! She told you it wasn't a big deal!"

"SHE DID!"

"And so you took that glass pie dish and you slammed it over her head! You did it over and over, until she couldn't. laugh. any. more."

"Yes," June sobs as her fellow soccer moms collectively make a wide berth around her. "Yes, I did! She didn't even try! Every pie was overcooked, every decoration in her house was the wrong color for the walls, everything was wrong! She was ruining my LIFE!"

"Sure," Lassie says as he cuffs her. "Four bedroom with no mortgage to pay off, seems like she really dragged you through the mud."

"It's only two full bath," June sobs as she's lead away. "The other two are only half-baths, it's squalor, it's a slum-"

Shawn hops down from the table and wipes his heel on the grass. "I'm reminded yet again why I'm not a homeowner, Gus."

"You're not a homeowner because you don't make money, Shawn, not because you chose not to be."

"I've heard it both ways."

Gus's eyes flicker over to June sitting in the squad car. "So how'd you know Carol laughed at her?"

"Oh, not this again."

"What?! I'm just asking a question, Shawn!"

"No, you're yet again digging into my head because you have somehow gotten sucked into the lie that you help me fake!" Shawn whisper-yells.

"All I asked was how you knew she laughed!"

"I knew because that's what people like this do! They laugh at each other and make fun of stupid things until one of them snaps!"

"Did you see her laughing?"

"GUS!" Shawn grabs him by the shoulders and shakes him. "Snap back into the real world, I am begging you!"

"Get off of me!" Gus slaps Shawn's hands off. "Fine! What else have you seen through this case?"

"What?"

"What other things have you seen?"

"Why are you asking?"

"If anyone is here right now that you 'imagined' something about, we can settle this by asking them."

"This is ridiculous."

"Scared I'm right?"

Shawn takes the bait. He looks around and, with a huffed laugh and sly look, takes off. "Hey! Debbie!"

The woman looks up from where she's packing up the potluck. "Oh, not you again. Don't you have more ghosts to speak to?"

"I do. In fact, one is bothering me right now." Shawn elbows Gus. "The spirit is asking me to verify a vision I had of you. It was fuzzy, and possibly a malicious spirit trying to deceive me. I need to check."

"Fine. You have until I'm done bagging this up."

Shawn raises one hand to his head and presses his middle fingers fingertip to his temple. "Early in this case, I had a vision of you doing your dishes and seeing June and Carol's husband arguing on their front lawn."

"You already asked me about this."

"Yes, I did. But the spirits are insisting there are details that were cosmically tampered with." Shawn gives Gus a smarmy look, which is odd, since he's trying o prove something he thought is wrong. "I... I heard you humming, yes. I believe it was... Livin' La Vida Loca."

He looks at her with a face that says he fully expects to be wrong. But her jaw drops.

"Y-yes. How-how did you know that? I don't even like that song, it just-it came on while I was driving earlier that day."

"Oh, um... well, that-that's good, then. That that part was right." Shawn takes a second, and then nods. "Um, I also see the detail of you opening your window to hear it better. You thought it could be interesting gossip for... a lunch with your sister?"

"Yes!"

"Really? ... Okay, um-" Gus nudges Shawn to get him to keep going, because Shawn is visibly losing his nerve. "I also see..."

He squeezes his eyes shut tighter. "I see... you dropped a plate when you heard June accuse Carol's husband of insider trading. It was a... blue? Plate? One of those ones that's more of a bowl, really. And it chipped."

"Yes." Debbie hasn't been bagging food for a while now, staring at Shawn with complete awe. "Yes, and-and I thought I should stop listening then."

"But you didn't." Shawn blinks his eyes open. "Even though you told us you did the first time we did this, right?"

"... I-I didn't want to be considered complicit if it turned out true... oh, I-I didn't- tell the spirit I'll report her husband-"

"No need, ma'am," Gus says soothingly. "He was investigated already, he's clean."

Debbie deflates with relief. "I didn't mean to lie, I just... I was scared."

"It's fine." Shawn turns on his heel and speed-walks to The Blueberry, visibly rattled. Gus lingers for a moment to give Shawn some space.

"Thank you for clearing that up, his visions can make it difficult to tell what's relevant and what's not sometimes."

"I-I can't imagine. How does he manage to live, with that in his mind all of the time?"

"I'm still figuring that out too, honestly." And now so is Shawn. "Have a nice rest of your day, Miss Debbie."

Gus jogs to The Blueberry. As soon as he gets in, the puting Shawn beside him speaks up.

"That doesn't prove anything. I probably saw the chipped plate when we talked to her."

"You didn't go through her cabinets."

"Could've been in the dish drainer."

"Was it?"

Shawn doesn't answer. Only he can conjure up an image clear enough to re-examine like he's right there in the room in real life, so Gus can't say for sure if the plate was put away or not. But Shawn knows.

And his silence says everything.

"I'm not entertaining this, man." Shawn tosses the ball up and nearly misses the catch on it's way back down. "It was a couple of weirdly good guesses. Besides, it was all tiny, irrelevant details. I still got our last case wrong half the time."

"We've checked with witnesses for our last three cases, and you were able to describe details you shouldn't know for all of them."

"I do that all the time."

"But you can't explain how you got those guesses right. Come on Shawn, guessing that the kid who only wore pastel floor-length dresses was a hardcore hip-hop fan? There was nothing about her that should have tipped you off."

"Some of what I notice is subconscious, you know, I'm not always aware of every little thing my brain picks up on. That's what a gut feeling is, man."

"Sometimes, for sure. But sometimes it might be psychic visions."

"If these are real psychic visions, they're the most useless visions of all time. Do you really want to be friends with a psychic who can guess the shoes someone was wearing last Tuesday but can't find a murderer until the fourth try?"

"All the websites and books-"

"Why do I talk to you?"

"-say that the less a psychic practices seriously, the more they get wrong."

"That's just a way to cover their asses when other fakes get caught."

"Or, you just need to practice, and we can stop making fools of ourselves with false accusations."

"So that's what this is all about? You just want me to accuse fewer people? That's how process of elimination works, Gus!"

"We're trying it again, right now." Gus wheels his chair over to Shawn's desk.

"I'm not doing this."

"Yes, you are." Gus thinks for a moment. "Try to tell me what your dad said to me after that birthday party where you caught someone trying to steal the cake corner I wanted."

"When we were nine? How do I know you'll even remember that well enough to say if I get it right?"

"Trust me, it's burned into my memory." Because it freaked him out.

"This is stupid."

"Just tell me what you think happened after you left. He scolded you for tackling the kid as they ran away, and you left, and I wanna know what you see when you imagine what happened after that."

Shawn shrugs, face scrunched with hesitant frustration. "I-I don't know Gus, something like-"

Henry kneels down and pats Gus on the shoulder. He gives the child a sharp smile, looking at the door Shawn had just stormed through. "Just you wait, Guster. Someday you'll be able to tell people your best friend is the perfect cop."

"-or something." Shawn opens his eyes and pulls his hand down from his head. He locks eyes with Gus-

Who's mouth is open and eyes wide as they can get.

"What?"

"That was word for word, Shawn!"

Shawn blinks, and then scoffs, a crooked grin spreading across his face and his leg beginning to bounce nervously. "Okay, I just happen to guess what my dad said to you decades ago-"

"No, no," Gus moves closer, pressing one hand to the desk as he fully rounds it and then putting both on Shawn's shoulders. "Dude, I mean the whole thing was exactly like that. The kneeling to my eye level-"

"That's just how he used to talk to us."

"-and the weird smile-"

"All his smiles are weird, it's something I thank the universe every day I didn't inherit."

"-the way he said 'perfect' that made me a little worried he wanted to replace you with a robot-"

"Because he probably did want to."

"Shawn!"

"Gus!" Shawn slaps his best friend's hands off of his shoulders. "I am not psychic! Come on, I thought if either of us was going to forget that one day it'd be me!"

"Well I think you are!" Gus stands and puts his hands on his hips. "You know, this is actually making a lot of little things make sense to me."

"What? No, don't pretend you've always thought this." Shawn shakes his head. "This is going too far, okay?"

"I haven't always thought it, but now some things make sense! Like when you told Nigel St Nigel to stop smoking before you did your noticing-things squint at the electric box."

"I just didn't want the man to have holes in his lungs."

"How about you getting on board with your own joke theory with the Frazen case?"

"That was just me being even better than I realized, and the day I vowed to never dismiss my own jokes again."

"Uh-uh." Gus steps back and points at Shawn, making Shawn cross his eyes to watch his hand bob back and forth. "No, I know this is real. Do it again."

"Gus, it doesn't work like that."

"How does it work then?"

"I don't know, man! Sometimes I just get an idea in my head and it plays out! This is kind of insulting, honestly!"

"How?!"

"You're saying all of my hard detective work is just because some spirits told me something!"

"I'm not saying that at all! I know most of it is just you figuring things out, but I think you really do have some psychic abilities! You're always guessing what I'm gonna say like you can read my mind-"

"Because we've known each other our entire lives!"

"-and you always end up being onto something even with your wildest theories-"

"That's called luck-"

"-and you always manage to get us into the right places at the right time to come face-to-face with the bad guy!"

"Those are bad situations, so that would mean the spirits hate me. Do you want a psychic friend who's being lead into death traps by ghosts?"

"Shawn-"

"Gus, I'm being serious about this. I. Am not. Psychic. So drop it."

"Nuh-uh, no way. I'm getting you to believe it."

"Yeah, good luck with that."

"Really?" Shawn looks at Gus, completely unamused.

"The websites say they work."

"Crystals." Shawn gestures at his desk. "You have covered my entire workspace with crystals. This is getting sad, man."

Gus shrugs. "They're supposed to help open the third eye and hone psychic abilities."

"You sound like a hippie."

"You sound like a guy in denial."

"I'm not doing this." Shawn opens a drawer to shove the crystals into. "Really?! The whole drawer?!"

"All of them. And I put some in the kitchen."

"This is a problem. You, have a problem."

"Yes, and it's name is Shawn."

"What is this- did you sign me up for a meditation class?!"

"This Friday."

"You signed your completely unmedicated ADHD and hyper-observant friend up for a meditation class. I'm going to end up torturing that poor teacher, Gus."

"If you genuinely try at it, I'll buy you a year's supply of corn nuts."

"... A whole year?"

"A whole year."

"One for each day."

"I have the check from our last case set aside just for this."

"Fine. But when I'm still not psychic by the end, you're not allowed to go back on this deal."

"Fine."

"Fine. ... These crystals are actually kind of cool. Dammit, I might take some home., look at this. This one is shaped like a butt. ... You found the cool ones on purpose, didn't you?"

"One looks like a pineapple."

"Which one- oh, yeah, look at that! This, is delightful. But this, as a whole, is still a problem."

"We'll see."

Shawn sits at his desk, staring at the wall, as Gus does a little victory dance behind him.

"Yes, yes, we are finally in the clear-!"

"Gus." Shawn buries his face in his hands. "Please give me at least one minute to process this? Should I be the one celebrating having actual superpowers?"

"You're not the one who thought we'd get caught!"

"We still might, it-it's barely even actual visions." Shawn looks at the board of their latest case, the one solved in the morning and the one solved in record time, the one solved thanks to a very small detail and a gut feeling.

And the one irrefutably, undoubtedly, solved by a psychic vision.

"It still happened!" Gus continues his dance. "I told you those crystals and classes would show you! What, what?" He fans himself. "What?"

"This is the weirdest turn my life has taken," Shawn mumbles, rubbing his face. "Of all the ways to find out, it had to be a vision like that? It wasn't even cool."

"Cool is getting paid, Shawn, and it made that happen!"

"But a vision of the victim's flu symptoms? That's- Gus, that's just lame."

"Lame? You knew the guy never had clamminess, that was the whole key! He never had clammy hands, so he never lost grip after falling off that balcony, he was pushed. That was the entire closing argument, Shawn, the killer confessed right away!"

"I could've found other evidence." Shawn sits back in his chair, arms crossed. "Something better than 'Oh, he wasn't sweaty!' What kind of wrap-up is that?"

"Shawn, seriously, what's up with you? Why aren't you more excited about this? We're not lying to cops anymore, you've got actual superpowers, and we can probably solve cases twice as fast."

"Because, Gus, how would you feel if you learned you had superpowers your whole life and just never noticed, so now you have to go back and think about everything you've ever done to try and find out what was you just being an awesome genius and what was some kind of metaphysical interference?"

Gus stops his dancing. "What?"

Shawn grinds his jaw.

Gus sits down.

"... Am I even actually a good detective? A good shot? Have good instincts?"

"Yes, you are. We both know you are."

"Do we? We didn't know I can have visions for three whole decades, so-" he laughs, sharp and bitter.

"... Well, I think it all just goes together." Gus picks up a pencil and starts writing down ideas on how to help Shawn hone his newfound skills. "You can have visions and use your detective skills to examine them way more effectively than a psychic without could, and you can recall each one perfectly. All of the website I read talk about how frustrating it is to have a vision that only become relevant weeks later, and by then it's hard to remember. You don't have to deal with that."

"... That is pretty cool, I guess."

"Plus, they say mind-reading is possible once you practice enough, especially with people you're already close to."

"We already know I can do that." Shawn's mood sours again. "We don't know each other so well I can, I just can."

"I think it's both. You've never practiced it, so maybe we've just known each other so long you managed to do it anyway."

"Are you saying... it was the magic of friendship?" Shawn cracks a smile. "That's adorable, man, really."

"You know that's right." Their friendship is adorable, and he's proud of that fact. "Besides, you realize what you can do once you practice having clearer visions?"

"What?"

"Confuse your dad."

Shawn blinks. And then grins. "Gus. You mad genius."

Gus bows a little.

"He'll never know what hit him! Oh, that'll drive him nuts! He'll never be able to figure out how I'm figuring things out!"

"And now when Lassie says you're a fake, you can hit him with real psychic information."

"Holy- Gus! Why didn't you point this out form the beginning?! I would have totally gotten on board! Show me those websites right now, I'm about to psych it uppppp!"

Meet the Artist!

I felt inspired by @samantha-and-her-chaotic-desires, who did a Meet the Artist post on her blog, and I thought it looked like fun to do one myself.

So, here's a little drawing of myself and some fun facts (that are hard to read, so they will be transcribed below)!

"Meet the Artist

I change my hair color every 2 months. I've done red, orange, green, turquoise, violet, pink, raspberry, and several two-toned ombrés (and a three-toned once!). I see violet as my default.

My favorite colors are pink, violet, red, and orange.

Aside from drawing, I'm a big crafter and enjoy sewing, making jewelry, and painting. I also love baking!

I have a collection of over 100 dolls: this includes antiques, clown dolls, Living Dead Dolls, BE Goth dolls, rag dolls, and plastic fashion dolls.

Some of my favorite bands are The Birthday Massacre, Creature Feature, The Kentucky Vampires, Vandal Moon, TR/ST, and Maria Loves Me.

As of posting this, I've drawn DT 136 times. This counts traditional, digital, posted and unposted, unfinished, and drawings where more than one DT are present (such as the rainbow outfits series). I just. REALLY. Like. Double Trouble."

I have many request to complete so this is me knocking out one of the request. My inbox is closed at the moment but I'll still be posting and will open it back up soon.

Husk didn’t really care about working at this hotel. In his words he didn’t want to do any charity work. But Alastor made him stay and help out. Husk really couldn’t say no and there were reasons behind it. Reasons Husk didn’t feel like telling anyone and couldn’t tell anyone. So Husk did his work at the hotel. Sometimes he complained here and there. Having to tell Angel to screw off and for Charlie not to hug him for doing a good job. The only people he could stand were Nifty and Vaggie. Husk would just work, drink, and sleep. Everything just felt like a cycle that was until Joey had joined the hotel. Husk stared at Joey for a moment and felt a weird feeling in his chest but he thought it was just from the alcohol so he pushed it aside. Charlie had called a meeting and introduced Joey as someone who will be working here at the hotel. That he would be helping with the teenage sinners. Husk hoped that Joey wasn’t annoying as the others. And to Husk surprise he wouldn’t but Joey would make sexual jokes with Angel or silly jokes with Alastor. Joey was great at his job when it came to teens understanding certain patterns that landed these teenagers in Hell. He was always helping Charlie with ideas for the hotel like when they threw a summer festival at the hotel and everyone had fun. Husk himself even enjoyed it. Husk found himself enjoying seeing Joey. It was night and Husk had finished closing the front desk, he decided he earned himself a smoke break and walked outside to the back alley. That’s where he stopped Joey and saw him smoking. Husk wasn’t up to date with many things but he could see that Joey was vaping. Husk never understood anything about vaping but he wouldn’t judge because times are changing and things are and will be different. Husk walked over and saw that Joey was upset. Husk pulled out a cigarette and lit it. “ What’s up with you? “ Husk said as he placed the cigarette to his lips. Joey looked over at Husk and sighed. “ I made a stupid choice. You see I wanted to impress Alastor even though Vaggie warned me not to do so. I asked Alastor to dance thinking I could wing it since I love to dance but I accidentally knocked down Alastor’s radio and broke it, even though he said it was okay. I couldn’t help but cry and run off because I embarrassed myself and I feel so fuckinf stupid! “ Joey said. As he weeps and looks down. Husk sighed and looked at Joey, feeling bad Husk knew how it felt to be embarrassed when trying to impress someone. “ Hey, now don’t beat yourself up, sure you might have embarrassed yourself but come on we all screw up and make fools of yourselves. I’m surprised that Alastor didn’t send you to a different part of Hell for breaking his radio. So if he didn’t then he must not have been upset. But again don’t beat yourself up. “ Husk decided to try a tactic that Charlie had him do whenever he was upset. “ Joey, look at me. “ Husk said. Joey stared at Husk with tearful eyes. Husk wipes away Joey’s tears and gives him a serious look. “ This may seem silly but just follow my lead. “ Husk looked around and lifted his arms in the air. Joey stared at Husk with confusion.

“ Come on, just do it. “ Husk said. Not wanting anyone to walk into the alley and see them. Joey nodded and lifted his arms in the hair. “ Close your eyes. “ Husk said while he closed his eyes. Joey closed his eyes. “ And now deep breathes in and out. “ Husk said. As he was teaching Joey some breathing exercises. Joey did what Husk said. The two of them taking deep breaths, pausing, and then breathing out. This continued for a few minutes and Joey started to feel better. It also made Husk feel better that he didn’t want to smoke. Husk opened his eyes and dropped his arms to the side. “ Alright, do you feel better. “ Joey opened his eyes and smiled and gave a nod. “ Yeah, I feel a bit better thanks Husk, can I give you a hug? “ Joey asked. This surprised Husk because his boundaries usually weren’t respected mostly by Angel, Alastor, and Charlie. “ Eh…. sure but make it quick. “ Husk said, mumbling. Joey hugged Husk for about five seconds then pulled away. A part of Husk wished the hug lasted longer but he couldn’t get attached. “ I~I’ll I’ll see you around Joey. “ Husk walked back inside the Hotel. Joey smiled and was grateful that Husk calmed him down and talked with him. The next morning Joey was listening to just a couple of songs from the musical Hamilton. He had gotten Charlie addicted to the musical that the two would sometimes listen to it. Husk couldn’t stop thinking about Joey yesterday after what happened. He thought about asking Joey to have a drink with him but he wasn’t sure if Joey was a drinker so he thought maybe he could take Joey to a magic show that was happening. “ Come on, just ask them. “ Husk thought to himself. Husk closed his eyes and sighed. Maybe getting out of the hotel would be good and he could share his special interest with someone. Husk took a deep breath and walked over. He tapped Joey’s shoulder and Joey turned around, he took off his headphones and smiled. “ Hey Husk, what’s up? “ Joey said, with a sweet smile on his face. “ There is this magic show happening tonight, do you wanna go or not because you don’t have to go if you want, I don’t care. “ Husk said, mumbling the last part.

“ Sure, Husk, I would love to go with you to a magic show. Better than staying up another night and playing my game. “ Joey said, chuckling nervously. Joey didn’t want to tell Husk that he stays up late at night playing Mystic Messenger and Genshin. So maybe a change of routine would be nice and Joey hasn’t really explored all of Hell. Husk was happy to hear that Joey agreed to go to the magic show with him. “ Great! “ Husk coughed and looked at Joey. “ I-I I mean great… I’ll pick you up at 8pm. “ Husk said, trying to sound more serious. Joey chuckled seeing that Husk was trying to act chill. “ I’ll be ready then, I have to go now. I promised Angel and Niffty that we’ll go shopping. “See you tonight Husk. “ Joey smiled and walked off as Husk felt his heart do a little dance. He walked off not knowing that a certain radio demon was watching. When it was getting close to 8-pm Husk was dressed up all and had one single rose that he didn’t steal from the hotel garden. He walked towards Joey’s apartment and knocked on the door. When the door opened, Joey stood there dressed up in their romantic goth style which Husk thought Joey looked amazing. “ This is for you. “ Husk handed Joey the single rose. Joey reached out and grabbed the rose and smelled. “ Thanks. “ Joey turned around and placed the rose in a vase and stepped outside his apartment to lock the door. The Husk and Joey walked to the entertainment place called Demonic Entertainers. Husk walked up to the booth and paid for two tickets. He walked over and handed Joey his ticket. “ The show shouldn’t be too long so if you want we can go get dinner after. “ Husk looked at Joey while rubbing the back of his neck. “ I don’t mind paying for the dinner either. “ Husk said. He wanted to impress Joey u tonight and treat him this night. “ Dinner would be nice. “ Joey said. Husk smiled and walked with Joey inside as they handed their tickets to the guy.

Joey and Husk took their seats while the show was about to start. Joey could see how excited Husk was for this show to be at this place. Joey made a mental note. Husk was like an excited child while watching the show on stage. The magic was always amazing to Husk. After the show was over Husk couldn’t stop talking about the magic show. Joey thought this was adorable watching Husk go on about the magic show. Once Husk was done speaking. This is a little long so I’ll put it below the break:

I currently work entirely digital in the Procreate app using an iPad Pro (3rd Gen). I used to use photoshop but then Adobe got greedy and I refuse to pay a subscription service for a drawing program I had already paid hundreds out of pocket to use.

My go to brush is the “MaxU Ballpoint Pen” from the Max Comic brush pack. Easily searched on google, he’s very well known in the community for his brushes and offers free ones sometimes I think. Here’s a demo of the brush mentioned and some of my other favorites:

It seems sort of long and tedious looking at my list now, but I don’t always bring a drawing into Thunderdome Art Piece Territory. Often they stay as part of my digital sketchbook. So then I stop somewhere around ‘CleanUp’ and Flat Color.

Here’s a video time lapse of a recent drawing to show you a quick glance at me cleaning up a sketch from the initial gesture/thumbnail. I don’t usually draw over the sketch on a separate layer - just erase it out of existence and draw it over:

Otherwise everything stays pretty loosely-goosey! It’s takes me a long time to bring it to this stage bc my drawing involves lots of little lines and building up darker edges with that ballpoint pen brush. Lots of pushing and pulling until I get the shape and edge I want, like an oil painting (if you’re familiar sorry lol).

i love your postcard artwork for the zolu playlist SO much!! the colours are so so good and i love the brushwork! i think my favourites are a tie between the one for chikai and the one for simple song <3 also, I was wondering if you could share what brushes you used + how long they took you! looking at your art makes me want to draw again after not doing it for so long

While we're talking settings I want to give a quick PSA to all digital artists:

CHECK UR ASPECT RATIO!!!: (MOST IMPORTANT SETTING BY FAR)

DO NOT DRAW WITH THIS ALL MESSED UP, IT WILL DRIVE YOU CRAZY. It's probably good to check this after every system update (I don't, but, you know...). Windows likes to mess w your shit when it updates.

If you have a really tiny tablet you might need to trace outside a bottle lid or something.

Okay now on to the meat of the post

-- Brush Stuff --

I use Clip Studio Paint. For my playlist drawings I think I only used these brushes (these are my main 3 in general) (p.s. they're all default brushes! but i've adjusted the settings):

1) Gouache This is most of what i used for the postcards. I nuked Color Stretch because i hate it (it blends colors together as you're painting, like painting over wet paint. I prefer things to look more crisp)

2) Real G-Pen Used this as little as possible, to keep the painterly effect. My preferred fine-detail pen, has a nice crunch to it. I've fine-tuned my setting further in the thickness dynamics / brush size dynamics settings because I mostly use this brush for linework and wanted it to handle really, really naturally and precisely

The random box is checked by default, probably to make this brush feel more like handling a real inkdip pen (I don't like that)

3) Mapping Pen Least used. I generally keep this brush at the 50-70px range. It's unpleasant to use for detail work (the taper is really fiddly at my tablet pressure settings) but good at filling in large areas very opaque very quickly, with a crisp edge (Also, doesn't lag as much as the gouache brush at large-ish sizes). Has enough wiggle room that it can be used to approximately fill tighter spaces at large brush sizes. Used for when I needed to quickly color over an area that wasn't working or quickly fill in background color that didn't need paintbrush texture. Did not realized the stabilization was set to 10 until just now. I usually turn that waaay down to prevent lag (my laptop isn't very old but it's a sensitive beast)

Other stuff that'll help:

General pen pressure: (under File -> Pen Pressure Settings)

tweaking how CSPaint handled my pen pressure helped a lot with making lineart look more natural. It's worth messing around with this and trying out different settings for a while to see how they feel.

-- How Long it Takes 2 Draw --

I don't really keep track of how long art takes me from start to finish, and making the playlist drawings was kinda nonlinear 😅 sorry!

-> I started out sketching really quick composition and color ideas as the songs were playing, limiting myself to just the duration of each song (so like, 5 minutes for this part) -> i did that again at least 2 more times per song -> after that, idk. I would work on one pic then get stuck and move to another. Some I could hammer out in like... 5 hours? Some took me upwards of 20 (30?) hours for no real reason (I have "will graham clock" days, where I'll try to draw a face over and over and it'll look really strange, like will graham's clock drawing every time) (this seems to be either a vitamin deficiency or a brainfog inflammation type thing 4 me 😵‍)

I'll use ur two favorites as specific examples: -> Chikai was one that went pretty quickly (with the exception of their arms and the clothing folds there giving me trouble). Probably took 4-6 hours? -> Simple Song had a couple different versions, partially because I initially had the cards all laid out landscape-style, and I decided I actually wanted them all portrait-style & repainted it after it was already done. That aside, the colors /atmosphere on that one gave me trouble and the general composition / perspective had a lot of tweaks (I was trying to figure out if I wanted it to be a kinda flat stylistic perspective or if I wanted it to make more literal sense, trying to figure out what to do with luffy, trying to make him not look Too baby boy sweetie pie). Probably took 7-10 hours...?

You can call me Mylo or Comet and I’m transmasc, my pronouns are they/he! I’m 16, ~5’10, and I have long (I want to cut it!!) brown sorta curly hair! I’m bi but have a preference for masculine presenting people!

Some things about me are that I really want to dye my hair different colors, probably purple as the first color but the only colors I don’t want are yellow blond or orange! I really really love art, all kinds but I’m best at digital, pencil, water color, and sometimes animating. Funny enough I do kinda suck at painting (I’m working to get better)! I really love my family and I have 3 brothers, two younger and one older! I have a really big age gap with my younger brothers so I take care of them a lot, and I’m kinda good with kids because of it. I love my mom so much and I’m really close with her! I love listening to music, I write poetry sometimes, I suck at sports so much, I make jewelry for my friends and me, I love swimming and tubing and being around boats and docks, I really annoy connecting with people and having meaningful deep conversations, I used to love reading so I’m trying to get back into that, I enjoy baking too and sometimes going on hikes.

When I first meet someone I can be a little shy or reserved but I come out of my shell quickly if I’m comfortable. I care really deeply about my friends and I think they would describe me as someone who always tries to help out or doesn’t know how to relax sometimes, I can be pretty stubborn, I have anger issues but I’m working on them and I’ve never dealt with them full force at anyone, I’m protective of the people I care about but if they don’t need me I trust them to take care of themselves. I can get excited really easily and I’m positive when around other people, but if I get stuck in my head when I’m alone I can get into a pretty bad headspace. I always try to make people laugh and let them know I care about them (usually I don’t say anything out loud) by spending time with them, or getting them something.

Some random silly fun facts

I verbally stim so sometimes I’ll just repeat what someone says or something that gets stuck in my head

I’ve broken 2 bones. My arm when I was about 9 and a couple years later my pinkie. I’ve also broken my nose by running full speed into a pole (long and embarrassing story)

I was really clumsy as a kid and still kinda are as per my last fun fact

I love sweaters and I get cold super easily

I have a lot of moles and I have a couple on one part of my arm that looks like a constellation

I have this joke with flamingos that my friends and family know about so I have a ton of flamingo stuff lol

I love stuffed animals and blankets

I really enjoy writing and English class

Newt!!!

When you come up the box, there's already many other boys living their life as best as they can in the glade. You don't have to go through any of what Minho or Newt went through, you just have to deal with the fact that all you can remember about yourself is your name and that you'll be stuck for an undefined amount of time in this hellhole of a place, which, you know, is already bad enough. So you're understandably freaked out for the first few days and even quieter than you usually are. Out of all the boys, Newt is the one who helps you out of that state of mind the most.

You spend most of day one to three in the Med Jack's hut because you hit your head pretty badly in the box, but Newt shows you around and explains everything, slowly and delibaretly, and he even makes you smile once or twice. It's where your friendship begins.

You start helping out Frypan in the kitchen on your fourth day there because Alby thinks working will help you manage your situation better. And truly, you do a good job. You find out you enjoy baking, then you find out you're actually really good at it too, and from then on Frypan puts you on bread duty. You help him chop and cube and stir as well, of course, but mostly Frypan lets you bake to your heart's content.

Newt visits you from time to time. He comes in with a smile and waits for you to dust off your hands and nods at Frypan to let you go for five minutes, to check on you and how you're handling your new home. It's a lot to take in, after all. But you're getting better, you're doing better with Frypan around and the work you're doing, with all the people you're getting to know and the distractions.

Maybe a week and a half in, you're starting to settle. It's all beginning to come together as a routine. But then you drop your knife, try to pick it up and slice across your hand and somehow, your temper gets the better of you. Frypan can't calm you down and before he can go and get Alby (who he's not that sure could calm you down either), Newt appears in the doorway and rushes to your side and from then on, whenever you're struggling with your anger, he's the one you go to.

He keeps visiting you regularly (even when he shouldn't) and after a while, he starts bringing you flowers.

just imagine a happy ever after! 😂😂

ok as an artist i personally find traditional painting to be. really really annoying. like. i do not have the patience for it and i just find it to be really frustrating to set up and actually do and i end up not liking the results. i find that there's little room for mistakes and trying to fix them usually ends up with me making 50 other ones, paints can be so inconsistent and having to rely on availability and certain brands to continue making the paint is really inconvenient, not to mention expensive. spending a bunch of time trying to mix the right shade of paint, only for it to go down a completely different shade of colour and not being able to do anything about it is so frustrating as someone who likes consistency and having things just, y'know, not change colour as soon as it dries. plus, they all use different chemicals and can go off really easily or change textures and i am just not ok with having all my materials having an expiration date like food. lead and graphite pencils just don't do that and they can last for years, they're more reliable. every paint is drastically different and trying to find the right one is not only time consuming but, again, expensive, and i don't even see the point in experimenting when most of my materials end up not even getting used if i don't like using them. plus, i'm just.... really impatient. waiting for paint to dry sucks and is why i much prefer digital or just drawing something because i don't need to wait for anything, it just works. and then when i do want to take my time and work slowly for a better result, it dries too fast. it's kinda hellish trying to balance that time, especially considering how inconsistent paints are.

i like to use guidelines when doing art and i find painting straight onto a canvas to be really tricky because there's a lack of direction for me to actually paint. i'm at a complete loss at what to do when i pick up a brush because i can't map it out first without risking screwing up the paint. there's just so many things to keep track of and so much wet paint to avoid and i just do not have the mind for it. putting colours on a canvas and praying that it works just isn't it for me and requires a discipline that i just don't wanna involve myself with. painting is also just like... really exhausting and kinda painful. i got some pretty bad back issues and my arms tire and get sore easily and quickly when i'm standing in front of a canvas. it's a really physical activity for me and i just don't find something to be very fun to do at all when it's physically hurting me. i know drawing on a canvas has this issue too, which is why i prefer sketchbooks. sitting down and drawing something that doesn't break my entire spine every time i do it is much more preferrable than questioning if i should go to the doctor every time i make a brushstroke, lol

that's not to say that there's nothing i like about painting though! i can paint simple little things, and i like doing that. i like mixing colours with a palette knife and i find it fun and even a little relaxing. i painted some cute little chibi cardboard cutouts of the mario brothers one time and i found that to be really fun and i think i'd like to do that again! but apart from that, i just do not have the patience for it. i love the look of traditional paintings and i find many to be really beautiful, but i could never get into actually doing it myself because i hate the process. i'm content with just sketching and doing digital stuff because that's more fun to me and less stressful of a process to do. it's fun, it allows for more mistakes, it's easier to build up layers of shading and lines, not to mention using building up a figure with guidelines is super helpful with visualising what i want it to look like, and i can just erase something if i don't want it there or want to change something. it just makes sense to me.

tl;dr i dont like painting because it's inconsistent, expensive, time-consuming, directionless, frustrating and it makes my back hurt really bad. i'll just stick to drawing stuff :)

• I think you would get along best with Charlie!

• While I do headcanon her with ADHD, She’s very patient in her own sort of way. She’ll find ways to distract herself or find things to do in order to wait for things to happen; mainly with squishies I imagine. She understands where you’re coming from when you can’t stay focused because of your disorders, but is willing to show you some techniques she’s picked up to help her!

• She’s very quick to rush to your side and help you whenever you need it.

• Charlie doesn’t see anyone as awkward, so even if you feel that way just know she doesn’t see it like that.

• She loves to ramble! You can ramble together!

• She appreciates how observant and attentive you are, as it makes it easier to help patients/guests at the hotel (that is if you wish to help or work there. If anything, I think you’d be great advice!)

• You’d be a big help to her with any issues that plague her. She has so much on her mind; with you making simple solutions means a lot.

• When you have times where you’re scattered, she’s quick to jump to you and calm you down. Be it a nice hug or verbal reassurance.

• She does live in hell of course. I’d imagine vaping is a normal occurrence. On another note, she’s the owner of the Happy Hotel! She’d absolutely help you seek other coping mechanisms if you wish.

• We obviously see how much of a singer and dancer Charlie is, and as I said before I headcanon her as a theater kid!

• That being said she’d love to dance with you. Since she’s a princess she must know how to slow dance as well!

• The first time you used a nickname for her she stared blankly at you. Her heart was melted, even if she didn’t know what it meant. She’d soon learn what your nicknames mean eventually.

• When the hotel is in the hands of other managers, she’d have days to just focus on you. Date days! She’d love to have a day just focused on the two of you hanging out and doing whatever you wish specifically.

• She wears some sort of business goth (I think?), but I think feminine mall goth suits her well (Think like the band Kittie). She’s more on the cutesy and comfortable side of mall goth, but only dresses like this outside to hotel, mainly on date days.

• She indulges in lots of your hobbies by buying gifts that correlate with them! Since she is busy with the hotel and can’t do everything unfortunately.

• Silly headcanon, but she’d literally kicks Angel out for as long as you’re in the room knowing you don’t like spiders, but she’ll fail to acknowledge he barely looks like one aside from his long legs and multitude of arms. Maybe you appreciate it, maybe you don’t. I’ll leave it to you.

• You mean so much to Charlie, and she hopes it’s the same!
