I do think it's funny that they thought they had to concoct Fake Reasons for Shawn to be put into a mental institution. First of all the Psychic thing alone would work, BUT aside from that there's

the complete and total disregard for personal safety that they can claim is passive suicidal tendencies (cough cough)

the obsessive lying that even people who don't know he's not psychic can see he engages in with enthusiasm

the Double Whammy Combo Daddy And Mommy Issues

the inability to comprehend what Boundaries are for both others and himself (seriously, is it possible to overstep with Shawn beyond literally actually being 1 second away from killing someone he loves? Clearly trying to kill him is not a disqualifier from friendship for him)

the inability to stop severely masking everything unpleasant/engage with his own strong emotions without something Severe forcing him to

The Manipulation and Puppermastering (how funny would it have been for Lassie to hear Shawn's "cover story" is that he's a genius manipulator and scoff about it because "Spencer just gets lucky," and then watch through the cameras and such as Shawn wraps the whole damn staff and patients around his finger but Lassie STILL CAN'T PROVE SHAWN DOES THAT TO FAKE HIS PSYCHICNESS BECAUSE IT MEANS ADMITTING HE'S A GENIUS)

The eidetic memory- imagine they put him in and don't tell him at first that there's cameras and such watching him and the staff hit Shawn with a "So we hear you can't forget anything and have witnessed multiple murders and are suffering from some PTSD because of it such as repression, dissociative episodes, disreguard for personal wellbeing..." and Lassie and Jules slowly realize watching "Oh shit wait... that's Real actually."

Anyway. We all know His Brain Is Fucked so I don't have to keep going on but I gotta say, I think a lot about how interesting it would've been for Shawn to be fighting to solve the case while avoiding being Actually Therapized For His Actual Issues as much as possible and Gus is kinda like "Shawn, maybe try to embrace this a little, they're not wrong."

"Gus, one of these people is working with a murderer to drug a witness!"

"But they're right about you hiding a lot of pain behind jokes-"

"Oh my god, I can't do this with you right now."

More streamer!Shawn headcannons based on this post:

He starts off with only a couple viewers, one of them being Gus, because, of course.

Then one day, he’s streaming and he’s doing what he usually does: reads a buzz feed unsolved, solves it, bids chat good night.

Except this time, there’s a police officer lurking on his stream.

And it’s not just any cop. They had been a part of the case that Shawn has just solved.

About a week passes, and he gets an email from the officer.

Basically, it’s thanking him for helping figure out this case, blah blah blah, here’s a picture of the newspaper article of that case he solved.

And it’s an article about how his stream had helped reopen the case and they caught the bad guy.

It doesn’t take long before his viewer count starts climbing from just Gus and a couple others to hundreds of people.

Like one of the best parts of Mr. Yin Presents is the way Yin is shown to have this... twisted, malicious admiration of Shawn. I think mainly of him having Shawn sit in that wheelchair above the little set, overseeing everything the way Yin is overseeing it all. He sets Shawn up to have a moment of Puppetmastering this game- Shawn directs Jules where to go, Shawn is the reason she gets captured, and Yin set it up that way deliberately. Then he involves Shawn in the process of this even further when he has Shawn make a choice between Abigail and Jules. He's playing with Shawn, but he's also guiding him, nudging him into this role of Puppetmaster, Capturer, and Killer.

And then when Shawn sees Yin, he asks, "She's under the pier, isn't she?"

And Yin confirms it. I've always seen that as a sort of... "Very good. You earned this," sort of moment. Yin is impressed, and Yin knows Shawn will save Abigail over capturing him, and I think the best thing to do for the 3rd would involve Yin trying to show Shawn "This is why you go for the kill and not the save." Like Yin trying to lure Shawn deeper into this cycle.

And the way Yin reacts to the photo at the end of the episode, it just doesn't track with the way they characterize things later. You're telling me he doesn't care about Shawn? That Shawn is just a random, albeit impressive, foe? That his only plan and end goal was to kill Shawn? No, it doesn't make sense, it doesn't align. Yin wanted Shawn to be like him, to be the new Yang, and I feel like a lot of Mr. Yin Presents is sort of him... seeing if Shawn is a fit for that.

It just feels so involved, doesn't it, compared to Yang? I mean even Shawn suspecting Mary was planned out, with the ankle thing Yin wore, just to get Shawn in that camera room to watch Mary die. That again feels like more than playing, it feels like prepping.

Just- guh. GUH
