Natsu and Lucy - Running Version

Can I just say how much I love Hiro Mashima for creating these parallel scenes?!

The anime started with Natsu and Lucy running off to Fairy Tail (the beginning of their first adventure) and ended with the start of 100 YQ (the continuation of their endless adventures)

It’s so damn perfect I wanna cry!! In addition, every time Lucy was lacking adventure in her life, Natsu was there to take her to one.

1. Lucy wanted to escape her dad/old life as a heiress and was looking for Fairy Tail to start her journey as a Celestial Mage. Natsu (being a member of FT) held her hand and took her there. Can I also say that before Lucy, Natsu wasn’t that close with the guildmates?! I don’t think this is emphasized enough because Lucy changed Natsu in literally one meeting!! If that’s not soulmate behavior then idk what is

2. Future Lucy’s last words mentioned that she wanted to go on more adventures. And guess what?! Even after death, Natsu was there to take her to those very adventures. The golden plains have a special place in my heart because it’s so emotionally beautiful and ugh my NaLu heart loves it!!

3. FT disbanded and Lucy basically lost her reason for adventures. She was alone for a whole year and no one was there for her, even though she kept tabs on everyone. Natsu (who reckless left her —which is so annoying but understandable in his perspective— didn’t know of FT disbandment) came back into her life, held her hand, and started her adventures again. It doesn’t make up for what she suffered through but he realized how it impacted her and wanted to make her happy again.

4. One of my favorite scenes!! Lucy became sad after her trip down memory lane and thanked Natsu for all the adventures she had because of the very first time he held her hand and took her to FT!! Like it’s a full circle back to their first meeting. I love how Natsu promises that they will be together forever and go on countless adventures.

I feel like after Future Lucy died and mentioned she wanted more adventures with Natsu and FT, he subconsciously made that a priority. He not only started to protect her in the first signs of danger, he made sure she always had an adventure, especially when she was feeling down.

Another aspect I love about these is that Natsu is grinning with an idiot. He’s so damn cute!! And Lucy she is shocked and surprised by his actions but eventually starts laughing and smiling because she knows Natsu will be there for her during these adventures. I love it!!

I can not thank Hiro Mashima enough for these!! It’s so perfect.

“Uwah!” 

Lucy’s excited giggle pierced the cold night air as she held out her hands to catch the snow falling around her. It’s not very often that Tokyo receives snow, maybe a couple times in a season and rarely enough to blanket the ground. On the sidewalk around her, other tokyoites scurry past uninterested in a young girl’s childish antics for it is two days before Christmas Eve and there are errands to run. She grinned at Natsu before looking towards the sky and closing her eyes for a moment while the cold little drops of snow flurries touched her skin. He merely chuckled as a warm smile graced his lips. It never failed to amaze Natsu each time the woman did something to make him fall in love all over again. But here she was, her face bathed in the artificial glow of store signs looking like an ethereal angel. 

This was their first winter after graduating from high school when nothing was yet set in stone and the rest of their lives laid before them. Once Natsu turned 20, he already knew that his father wanted him to succeed as the Oyabun, but he wasn’t ready to be a boss of their yakuza group just yet. He’s still young! And as he watched his girlfriend catching snowflakes, it only steeled his desire to focus on love not business… especially because Lucy is opposed to him becoming the boss. He held back a sigh and put on a smile as she grabbed his hand again to continue walking down the avenue. 

“Did you order the meal from KFC?” Lucy queried.

“Of course,” Natsu lifted their conjoined hands, kissing the back of her knuckles. “I even ordered your favorite cake from the patisserie.” 

“Mmm,” she bounced up placing a quick peck on his cheek. “You take such good care of me,” she cooed and snuggled to his side.

‘I’d kill for you,’ Natsu mumbled in his head. “I wanna give you everything kitten. I’ll always protect and take care of you.”

He knew that she knew exactly what those words meant… and it only added to her opposition. It wasn’t that Lucy was against him being the boss, what she’s really annoyed with is the whole boys club aspect of the yakuza. Natsu didn’t blame her for feeling the way she did, hell one of the things that attracted him was her strength. People often assumed Lucy was just another pretty girl who traded on her looks and lacked in intelligence, but they’re dead wrong. Picture it. The woman who was just minutes ago childly catching snowflakes was always in the top 10 percent of exams and was accepted into Tokyo University, one of the toughest universities to get into for business. Beautiful, brilliant, and feisty. He loved her so much… It’s because of that love that he didn’t want her joining the yakuza. 

Time to change the subject.

“Hey, I was thinking we should go to an onsen after visiting the shrine for New Year’s.” Natsu suggested. “We haven’t visited one in a while.”

“That would be nice, a trip before I start college.”

Natsu kissed her temple. “I’ll book a room with a private onsen.” 

The couple spent a sweet and savory Christmas Eve together at Natsu’s apartment, cuddling under the covers for most of the evening. He lived in a one-bedroom flat on the 26th floor of a high-rise apartment building where the nighttime views of Tokyo were beautiful. Outside the picture window, snow flurries fell and swirled through the air, catching on the light coming from the apartment before disappearing into the darkness. A few scattered buildings around the city were lit up for the holiday season making them stand out in the skyline. These really were the best times, when they could forget the world and all the responsibilities of life that lay beyond the front the door. Here in their own little heaven, where they made the rules, it was always sad to leave it. 

The next morning, Lucy went home with plans to hang out with her best friend Levy because Natsu had to deal with some end of year matters for the organization. No matter, it’s just five days until they’ll leave for their trip. He really hated being apart from her for more than a couple days, but he knew he better get used to it. Once Lucy started school, there will be times she needed to focus on projects and exams that may keep them apart for weeks at a time. He too may have problems that pop up that he needed to deal with. As the current first lieutenant it’s his responsibility to take care of matters before they escalated and required the boss to get involved. 

Finally, the 30th arrived. Natsu picked Lucy up from her apartment and they headed out in his car to an onsen located in the Saitama region. It’s about an hour’s drive, but the route is scenic once they leave Tokyo with forested land flanking many sections of the highway. During the autumn, the colors… all the reds, yellow, and orange leaves are pleasing to the eye, now those trees lay barren, and the pines are blanketed with piles of snow. Mountains of white wintergreens gleaming in the mid-afternoon sunlight.         

The ryokan Natsu chose was a mid-sized inn tucked away from the nearby city. Its design featured traditional Japanese style accommodations from tatami floors to pillowy futon mattresses, complimentary yukata robes, and in-room dining services. There are sliding shoji doors that led to a private deck and covered onsen bath that’s open to the outside. It’s a perfect hotel if you’re looking for a cozy, intimate getaway, and that’s exactly what Natsu wanted to spoil his girlfriend with before school stress began. Let Lucy start off the new year relaxed and sated. 

“Of course, I’m being clingy,” Natsu teased as they walked towards the guest room after check in. “It’s been a week.” He wrapped his arms around Lucy’s waist making it difficult for her to walk, but as much as she grumbled through gritted smiles, he won’t let go. The poor attendant carrying their luggage must’ve been so uncomfortable. 

The moment the door closed behind them… “Okay! Okay!” Lucy shrieked and clawed at the arms cinched around her waist. “So embarrassing!”

“Oww! Oww!” Natsu laughed as he finally let go. “Sorry kitten, I’ll leave the affection for behind the scenes.” Lucy rolled her eyes though there’s no malice in her expression, so Natsu still considered it his win. He kissed her cheek. “I’m just happy.” He kissed her cheek again. “Can you blame me?”

Lucy’s cheeks flushed. “No…” 

Yup, definitely his win.

The couple changed into the more comfortable yukata robes and hapi coats before venturing outside. For the three hours before the dinner service would be served, they spent it walking around the hotels zengarden and tea house. It’s a beautifully maintained garden replete with a koi pond that had a wooden bridge that crossed it, several intersecting pathways to follow, benches along the way to rest, and a couple of gazebo structures to enjoy the tranquility of nature. There’s a very light snow fall during the walk, but without much of a breeze the chill factor is tolerable. Natsu couldn’t remember the last time he’s been in a garden like this one. It might have been during a school trip. Had he held hands with Lucy then like he’s doing now? Possibly. Oh well, now there’s this memory to add to the collection.

Because the hotel is smaller it doesn’t have a sit-down restaurant, so meals are delivered to the rooms by request. Guests were also allowed to order specialty menus at the time of reservation, which is the route Natsu chose. He knew Lucy’s favorite dishes and made sure they were included. For dinner he’d chosen a mix of options. A chirashi bowl of sushi rice covered in a variety of fish, scallop, shrimp, and eel sliced thin in sashimi style. Braised pork belly coated with a sticky teriyaki sauce. Red miso soup with wakame seaweed, tofu, and scallion. Shrimp and vegetable tempura, and lastly for dessert, strawberry mochi ice cream drizzled with sugar glaze and kinako powder. The resident sake master included a top line junmai daiginjo sake to go with the meal. Everything was delicious. 

Now that their bellies are full and the sake has mellowed them, it was the best time to relax away the rest of the evening. They took turns taking a quick bath before slipping into the onsen. Natsu went in first. 

“Finally,” he teased from the steaming waters. “I was starting to worry you fell asleep in the bathroom.”

Lucy kneeled next to the edge with the towel wrapped around her body and her hair tied up in a loose bun. “I have a surprise to show you first.”

“Oh?” Natsu shifted his body to rest his elbows on the edge.

She turned around, still on her knees, then let the towel drop down to her waist to reveal her back. “I got it on the 26th so it’s still healing.” Lucy twisted her neck so she could see him. “What do you think?” Then before he started to respond, she let go of the towel and joined him in the water. 

Natsu prompted Lucy to sit with her back to him so he could look at it closer. “It’s a beautiful tattoo, fits you perfectly.” He ran his fingers over the soft, fluid line work that graced her upper back. Top to bottom it covered half of her back, perfectly centered over her spine with the wingspan stretching over her shoulder blades. He couldn’t quite place the style, a touch of whimsy, fantasy, maybe even tribal and the design was part butterfly, fairy, and angelic in its beauty. “Very delicate, perfect for a woman, but why wings?”

Lucy turned back to him. “Because you often call me kitten or angel, so when Levy and I visited the tattoo shop and I saw this design I decided to go with it.” She caressed his cheek and placed a pressured lingering kiss on his lips. “Now I’m forever your angel.”

Natsu pulled her onto his lap so she’s straddling his legs, wrapping his arms around her waist with hands draping over her lower curves. The steaming waters chased away the winter chill, while Lucy’s lithe body is framed by the lightly falling snow behind her and the overhead light created a haloed glow around her blonde hair. Just, breathtaking… and it’s all his. He grinned and returned the kiss in kind letting his forehead rest against hers, “Damn right your mine, and I’ll never let you go.” 

Snap Snap Snap “Boss? Oi Natsu, why the hell are you staring at the kids?”

“Kids?” Natsu’s eyes blinked and slowly readjusted from daydreaming. That’s right, the restaurant they ate dinner at was across from a park decorated with lights for the holiday season. He was waiting outside while Gray settled the bill when he noticed a young woman bathed in lights looking at the sky while two children, presumably hers, were laughing a few feet away as they made snow angels in the snow. Did he just flash back to a decade-old memory? The second he realized where he was, he turned around to address Gray. “I um, was just remembering how we used to make snow angels too as kids. Remember, Gray?”

Gray’s brow raised in suspicion, “not really, but whatever. I paid so let’s go.”

“Right…” Natsu glanced back to the park one last time before falling in step with his lieutenant. He’d almost forgotten that memory, but how could he. “My angel,” he muttered under his breath and gained another weird look from Gray. 

With the shinnenkai end of year celebration party coming up in a couple more weeks, Natsu had been too busy preparing to notice all the Christmas seasonal decorations around the city. Though a western thing, it was becoming more and more accepted as a secular holiday, especially in the bigger cities. But that wasn’t the issue of the moment. He really loved it when Lucy got that tattoo because he thought that it meant she’d accepted a future with him— Oh, how wrong he’d been because that was the year they broke up and ten years later he still wasn’t exactly sure why.  

“You go on in Gray, I’ll be in shortly.” They’d arrived back at the office building, but Natsu wasn’t ready to go in just yet. 

Natsu pulled the collar of his coat tighter to his neck to brace against a small gust of chilly wind. Lately his and Lucy’s current relationship as rivals was starting to wear on him mentally and it was getting harder and harder to control his emotions surrounding her. Guess ten years of pining really will drive a person insane. He closed his eyes and tilted his head to the sky to allow the little white flurries to chill his skin. Somehow, some way he’ll win his angel back and finally fulfill the wish he’d made at the shrine all those years ago. ‘I said it didn’t I Luce,’ he smiled to himself. ‘I’ll never let you go…’

Random barbie questions / thoughts part 2

1: why does prince Nalu from fairytopia look like a Peter Pan reject

2: Why do we not see any other puff balls until magic of the rainbow and the only other one we see is a puffball that very obviously had some sort of you nosy producer, or Director going no no it Hass to look obvious that it’s a girl we can’t possibly have Bibble be in love with something that doesn’t looks like it isn’t obviously a girl

3:Why are all of the other fairy guardians understudys absolutely annoying. Selfish unlikable pricks like the enchantress wouldn’t have just taken one look at these students and been on like no go pick someone else 

4: Also, do you notice that some of the guardians changed colors between the first Fairytopia and the third one like I am all for diversity but it is a little weird However do I give them props for just not mentioning it at all they’re just like oh yeah, they have different skin tones now deal with it

5: In Barbie Rapunzel mother Gothal is the only mother we see in the entire movie we don’t see Rapunzels real mother, or her princes’s, just there Dad’s 

6: Also, who else is it annoyed that we never got like dress up expansion packs for the rapunzel Barbies that had all of the other dresses she drew

1: And why do we not have 2000s Barbie nostalgia merch yet? Where is my T-shirt with Barbie Fairytopia on it dang it

 2: who else had Barbie dolls with stuck on clothing on them and has result grew up  to hate Barbie Dolls was stuck on clothes on them but also we’d still track down and buy the those same dolls we had has a kid 

3: also, does anybody else have a teenage sister who just loves Barbie princess charm school because Porsche is hysterical to them mine is convinced that she’s high

4: And Barbie life in the dream house is a literally just one giant Barbie meme and as a result, even though it’s really stupid, I just can’t hate it 

5: nd we should be getting like a nostalgia releases of the Barbies from the early Barbie movies like where is Claire has the sugarplum princess Rapunzel Odette from Swan Lake Elena from fairytopia, Annalise and Erica from princess and the pauper could you imagine fully articulated versions of these Barbies? It would be so cool.

6: And does anybody else appreciate that for years Barbie has released multiple different versions of their main character dolls from the Barbie movies in different ethnicities. And if you ever pointed it out like they’re trying to earn brownie points, or something they just been like oh yeah, there are multiple versions of this doll so that all of the girls can feel included. I love that.

1. BNHA—Fuyukoto

Look, Fran basically already covered Tddk, and while they’re my OTP, this is the kayak I have built with my own two hands and I WILL get more people on board it if it’s the last thing I do. Have they met in canon? No! Do I still have shit to talk about? YOU FUCKING BET.

First off, they have the same goals for a relationship—on Fuyumi’s end, I think it’s pretty clear that what she wants is domestic stability. Makoto, meanwhile, has explicitly stated that her ideal partner is someone “ordinary”—someone down-to-earth and steady to balance out the glitz, glamour, and chaos of her professional life.

She’s also extremely assertive in a way that I think Fuyumi needs in her life—someone like Makoto backing her up would probably do her wonders. Plus, giving Endeavor a daughter-in-law who has blackmailed a pro hero and gotten away with it would simply be excellent.

Speaking of in-laws, this ship would also make Naomasa and Touya in-laws. This is objectively funny.

2. Free!—Reigisa

I have such a soft spot for these silly little guys. You know that one post about being a sitcom b-plot character? These two are the fun little b-plot romance to Makoharu’s pining and drama. I love how ridiculously persistent Nagisa was in getting Rei to join the swim club, and I love the scene where Rei scoffs at the idea of him being affected by “something as illogical as love” like it didn’t WORK.

They’re hilarious, they’re adorable, they’re opposites attract, they’re absolutely whipped for each other. I love them.

Also, the water gun fight. The fact that Nagisa successfully ambushed Rei, then proceeded to walk into the trap he’d set earlier, was comedy gold.

3. Lego Monkie Kid—Dragonfruit

I was on the fence about this one until the Samhedi Fire scene. Look, I’ve spent five years and counting in the Tddk community—you give me fire and an “It’s your power!” and I’m gone.

To be clear, when I say “on the fence” I mean I was deciding whether or not I shipped them—they were luring me in, that just sealed the deal. I love the scene were Red returns Mei’s dragon plushie, I love their dynamic in general, and the fact that they were cuddling after the battle got me in the heart.

I’m not as deep in this particular fandom, so I’ll leave it at that—they’re cute, they got me in my weak spot, I like them!

4. Fairy Tail—Nalu

Is it even really a meet-cute if you don’t end up running from the cops?

These two actually hold the honor of being my first anime ship—Fairy Tail was my gateway anime, and Nalu was my first ship from it (thanks, Faun on both counts!)

I like how there’s hints that they could be a couple right off the bat, like Natsu’s arrival snapping Lucy out of the love spell when none of the other girls under it were affected, but that it isn’t fully a romantic subplot immediately. The focus is more on developing their friendship, and even though they’re not together by the end of the original manga, there’s not any question of why they WOULD fall for each other at some point in the future. Time and time again, they’ve saved each other, been there for each other, and just enjoyed each other’s company. I like a good friends-to-lovers, what can I say.

Also: THE FUCKING TREE. NATSU UPROOTED A GIANT RAINBOW CHERRY TREE AND FLOATED IT DOWN THE RIVER JUST SO LUCY COULD SEE IT. THAT’S REALLY FUCKING CUTE OKAY. Especially because, for those unfamiliar, he did in fact put the tree back afterwards.

And finally:

5. Superwomen in Love—Honey Trap and Rapid Rabbit

This is mostly an excuse to talk about this manga, because it is a LESBIAN SUPERHERO ROMCOM and more people need to read it.

Honey Trap, a villain, defeats Rapid Rabit, the heroine, in battle, gleefully removes the helmet of her costume… and is immediately smitten. As a result, she lets her get away, gets kicked out of her villain org, and ends up as Rabbit’s roommate, because Rabbit is the sweetest person in existence.

Fun superhero battles ensue as they try to take down the villain organization Honey used to be part of, while meanwhile Honey tries her hardest to get Rabbit to fall for her, and there’s a healthy dose of “and they were ROOMMATES,” which is always a fun time! Plus, one thing I specifically like about this manga is that the fact that they’re gay is a complete non-issue—the only “how can two women—?” of any kind is when Rabbit is (understandably I think) baffled by a different lesbian couple in the story having what’s essentially a biological daughter.

Superwomen in Love!!! Go read it, it’s fun!!!

Hi hi! This is sorta a teensy bit off-topic, but I've yet to meet another aro Fairy Tail fan, especially one who is super into in-depth character analyses, so I got pretty excited when I found your blog!

I've got to ask, as an aro, how do you look at the ships in Fairy Tail without the amatonormative lens? What is your perspective of them? What's your favorite? (I bet you've been asked that loads of times, sorry)

Jerza is my absolute favorite ship because there's something so... so labelless about it, ya know? It's as far from traditional as it can get, and it's got so much depth and history between characters and the concept and existence of the ship itself to analyze and theorize!

I'm pretty indifferent to the ships, I've definitely been asked a ton, but my general perspective is that 'hey, if it looks cute and seems fun, all the power to it!' and I don't really care too much about who genuinely ends up with who, whether in canon or fanon. If the dynamic is fun, romantically or otherwise, I'm all for it even if the ships and characters overlap.

When I was young, I definitely loved Loke and Lucy, because the Loke Arc meant so much to me. I also loved Natsu and Lisanna, because the tragedy she brought to the story with the reveal of her death brought so much to Fairy Tail's narrative.

When I look at ships, honestly, I see the romantic side of things as secondary to any other relationship they would have. I like better to think of their unique and potential dynamics, the story they're trying to tell, rather than the fact that they're going to fall in love or end up together at the end of the story.

Alzack and Bisca are the iconic gunsligner duo who've gone through travels and missions leaving their backs to each other. In Edolas, they're proud to show of their love and that's funny, but it stops being interesting when all they do is repeat their names at each other with no hint of their subtle personality differences, the way they meld, the way Alzack and Bisca would unhesitatingly protect each other, but are still strict enough to lightly scold when either of them lets their guard down. It was all gone, and eventually, everything about Alzack and Bisca was just the fact they had a cute daughter. They just became the 'nice FT background characters', rather than the bold and prominent duo that spearheaded the protection of the guild in Phantom arc.

Though, my idea of Fairy Tail ships is mostly on the fandom side of things, because I'm not too big a fan of how they are in canon. Nalu's the one I'm most indifferent about in a romantic lens. But of the other big 4, I adore the cute potential of the 'redeemed villain with a cute fairy' dynamic that Gajevy has. Gruvia is fascinating to me, because it's an interesting pit of the 'cool guy' and the 'girl that's not his type', and watching them grow from enemy to tolerance to eventually learning to understand more than just their horrible first impressions was an arc I wanted to see executed better overall.

And though I love Gajevy very much, it does sadden me to see all these characters get shafted for a primarily romantic narrative. Gajevy is a story of protection, so it's fine in the way I can see something important about Gajeel's redemption in their advancement, but there's little for Levy as herself.

But Gruvia, I'm always rather on the fence. I still don't understand why Gray rejected Juvia after GMG. I think Mashima was trying to enforce the Tsundere stereotypes on him, which, you know, he's never been a conventional Tsundere and that scene was hardly the picture of a boy hiding his embarrassment, so all it portrayed was Juvia blatantly ignoring his crude rejection, which set off my aro flight or fight response. Being an aroace who's never been able to openly say it in real life (because I live in a country where people don't believe ace people are real) has made Juvia's advances rather uncomfortable at times for me.

And it honestly makes me sad because I love Juvia all the way up to Fantasia. I wish the crush she had on Gray remained secondary to her character rather than become her main thing. In TOH, she wanted to impress Gray very much, but her priority was on contributing to getting through the tower as part of the group, and helping to save Erza (the scene where she tells Gray to go to Erza because she's in danger, at the start of the arc. She willingly told Gray to leave her side and go to Erza!). On Tenrou, she wanted to ignore Wendy's wellbeing to look for Gray, and she was actually miffed she didn't get to do it. I don't like that.

But from childhood to now, the only Big Four I truly invested all my heart into for their development? Jerza. Jerza is good. I'm indifferent to it now because eh, they're not really written all that well as a whole, but I love their story. It's not about typical or unconventional love story tropes like Gruvia or Gajevy, Jerza is the story of two broken people who adore each other, just desperately finding a way to be together again. It seems like the entire world and fate's odds are always stacked against them and they're never allowed to be together, but they're trying their best anyways. it's slow, it's gradual, and it's a genuine healing process that needs a lot of time.

A lot of people complain about the almost-kiss at the beach, but I don't get it. People complain Gajevy is rushed and then say that Jellal should have kissed her there, as if that isn't the pure definition of rushing a romantic development. It was perfect that they didn't kiss there, because they're not there yet. Erza just got out of a seven year coma and is busy picking up her guild's pieces. Jellal's just gone on a seven year redemption road trip, barely recovering from brainwashing and amnesia and imprisonment, and he's wildly a different person, mentally, emotionally, and physically, from the last few times they've seen each other. (All of those situations were also bad, trauma-inducing situations.) Heading straight into romance from there is just ridiculous. I love that he pushed it away and stated that they needed more time. That moment enforced one fact--- that they understand each other (they both know the fiancee is a horrible lie), like they've always been able to do when they were young and when Jellal allowed himself to be arrested for what they thought was life. It made them emotionally closer once again, without taking things too far. It was one step forward, and they don't overachieve with another step. It was beautiful, because they were healing, not as people who are romantically involved, but as two people. They're very human, in the fact that neither of them want to truly and officially get together without being ready for a relationship. I love that.

I love talking about ships, as an aroace. Though, I think what I want to see in a 'romantic' relationship is different from what's usually given in media. 

I like to describe romance the same way I enjoy fantasy and sci-fi. It's not real and a lot of the specifics and logic is dismissed as 'just how it is', but it's very enjoyable to feel involved in it, even if it's something I can never personally experience.

My name is Briar, I use She/They but any/all is also chill, and I run this blog and made its characters. When/if I officially produce anything know that I am not the only person working on this project, I’m just the creative lead and the only one with a social media account.

What is Incarnates of Mortis?

IoM is a story focusing on a group of magical girl esque figures who protect the land of the dead from souls that have been corrupted. These figures are dubbed Incarnates by the public and believed to have been born from Mortis itself. Our protagonist, an Angel girl known as Merry Tolli, leads a faction of the incarnates who believe it is better to reason with corrupted souls and heal their suffering. She is rivaled by an Incarnate who has dubbed herself The Crypt Keeper of the River Styx, who leads a faction of Incarnates who believe the simpler solution is to fight the sinners in order to destroy the source of their suffering through force.

Who are the main characters?

Merry Tolli- An Angel with a heart of gold who is unwavering in her compassion. She earned her status as an incarnate by saving the life of a drowning boy as a child. She goes by the alias Odette the Swan when fighting as an Incarnate

Nalu Ikaika- A loyal and fun-loving Nymph who is childhood friends with Merry. She earned her incarnate status by saving a girl from a fire that burnt down her family cafe. She goes by the alias Lily Loch while interacting with other Incarnates.

Felix Chatmao- A chill and down to earth cat therianthrope who is friends with Merry. He earned his status as an Incarnate by saving the life of a lost child in the forest. He goes by the alias Acteon of Felis while an incarnate.

Styx- Styx, or Crypt Keeper of the River Styx by her full title, is the leader of a rival group of incarnates. She is cold and analytical. Her true identity is unknown. She seems to be blind, but seems to be able to predict attacks.

Plague Mascarade- A gunslinging and mouthy incarnate who seems to be a siren. He insists his reasoning for allying with Styx is just so he can shoot stuff, but it’s unclear if he’s telling the truth. He often leaves battles before their finished in a rush without explaining.

There are more, but I don’t want to spoil the fun ;))

If i'm being honest, i'm not really a fan of JeRza cuz not having grown up with FT or "The Big 4 ship", I'd just find them completely moronic. I kinda don't mind GruVia or GaLe cuz I don't really care for them that much however, I greatly despised NaLu cuz I get the feeling, it will be an abusive relationship where that Natsu would caused so many problems to Lucy to the point of extreme levels of headaches. Lucy deserves so much better than that retard. As for JeRza... I used to hate Jellal but now I don't really care about him, he's kinda just.... there? That ship just wasn't for me. Sometimes I don't understand what Erza sees in him? But truth to be told, I also have a fictional crush on Erza, too. I don't like Jerza cuz they're relatinship feels kinda tiring and kinda boring. Also, they need years of psychological therapy which I never see them do. I really don't like it when Erza changes deamanor wherever she's around that pretty boy. It kinda feels just like when Sakura changes wherever she's around Sasuke(although I hate Sakura). I mean, why ship that when Erza can have so many fun ship dynamics with other characters. But hey, it's just an cartoon/anime/manga. Non of these relationships would work in real life... Although, I could be wrong.

P.S. If I wanna ship Erza with someone, I'd ship her with Denji(Chainsaw Man).(Okay, I'm joking, that's was joke XD)

P.S.2. I'm kinda pissed off when Jellal accidently grabbed Erza's cans as well feeling them. Some people thought it was sweet and funny. As for me, come on! Anybody, could have done that!... Although, I could be wrong.

P.S.3. I kinda get the feeling that some/most people ship JeRza cuz they're both hot and attractive characters.

Like I'm sorry but idk how to respond to this in a way that's not just telling you to not use the r slur in my blog, and I'm all for criticizing the big four but if you wanna be petty (which is fine, love being petty) just be it in your own blog not in my inbox. Besides I've already touched upon all these points about jerza in a previous ask. And I don't understand how you think nalu would be abusive, for as much as i criticize it, that is in fact one of the few things i don't think would apply to that ship. Is it just because Natsu is a bit of an idiot (only a bit, flanderization has been at work in the manga for a while)? Having a partner who's a himbo and kind of impulsive doesn't mean the relationship is going to be abusive. Likewise, don't understand why you care more about the ways in which nalu could be abusive but you don't mind gruvia which has actual disgusting and toxic behaviors from early on.

Natsu (Fairy Tail)

Sexuality headcanon

Natsu is bi/pansexual. To me he is the kind of person to not really notice gender, but rather someone's fighting ability/kindness. He has shades of himbo, which probably adds to me thinking he thinks all genders are cool and interesting.

2. OTP

I really like NaLu (Natsu/Lucy). I think the big reason why I like it is because they are friends first and foremost. They bicker, care, and support one another as friends. So, even if I didn't ship them, I would be on board with them as friendship duo. However, since I ship them I think their friendship is an excellent springboard for romance. Many straight ships in media just bank on the characters being together because "they're a man and a woman", but have no chemistry. I think Natsu and Lucy have a ton of chemistry and thus they're my OTP.

3. BROTP

Natsu and Sting both have dumbass energy that when combined create an even stronger dumbass. I really love their interactions during the tournament arc and I like how they're sort of foils of one another, with Sting also being a bit of a hot-head.

4. NOTP

Natsu/Erza. To me they have sibling energy with Erza as the older sister and Natsu her little brother. They both care for one another and are there to hold one up, but both have some dumbass energy that's just enough for them to both get into stupid situations of their own doing.

5. First headcanon that pops into my head

It's been a long while since I watched Fairy Tail so I cannot remember if this is canon, but I think Natsu loves spicy food. Not only does he like spicy food, but it doesn't affect him. He can eat some of the hottest peppers in the world and barely flinch while others are Dying.

6. Favourite line from this character

Oh boy... there are simply too many episodes and lines for me to remember. So, I think I'll go with a scene, because that's easier. I have two scenes in mind.

The first scene is during the tournament arc when Natsu says something along the lines of "one point matters in the end" as he's competing in his first "battle". What I like about this line is how Natsu believes in always giving things your all, even if you think you're going to "lose". I think that mindset is very important for people to have, especially young kids, who don't know how to deal with loss and try to give up.

The next scene is a softer one: it's when Natsu first sees Zeref during the S-Wizard rank arc. I like this scene because upon first watch, everyone is as confused as Natsu. However, if you re-watch the scene, the tragedy, joy, heartbreak, and sorrow are so plain to see in Zeref's face that for a moment he forgets everything except Natsu.

7. One way in which I relate to this character

I think I relate the most to Natsu's unwavering kindness. He sees the best in people and that's how Lucy entered the guild: he simply believed she's a good person and gave her a chance. And that's what Natsu represents to me: chances. He never believes people cannot have another chance at redemption and that's a quality I think is very admirable.

8. Thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character

Look, if I named everything Natsu does that gives me second hand embarrassment, we'd be here all day. He's just a goofy character and unapologetically living his best life. I suppose if I had to pick one thing it would be the motion sickness? But that's a shared trait all dragon slayers possess, so it's not just Natsu who embarrasses me.

9. Cinnamon roll or Problematic Fave?

This boy is the very definition of a cinnamon roll.

Junko Enoshima (Danganronpa)

I'm forewarning everyone: Junko is the character in Danganronpa I am the most "head empty" about. This doesn't mean I don't like her, it's just I'm pretty neutral.

Sexuality headcanon

I don't really have a sexuality headcanon for Junko. I just don't think Junko has ever thought about her sexuality and wouldn't care about gender. If she is looking for someone to date then she'd want someone who is interesting and not boring, which whittles the cast down to like two people? I think?

2. OTP

I don't really have a ship for Junko. I know in the light novel, DR0, she has an interesting relationship with Matsuda, but since I haven't really read the light novel (just a summary) I don't have an opinion.

3. BROTP

Again, I don't really have a clue. I guess if we went with a "non despair AU" then I think Junko and Naegi being a BROTP would be hilarious. Mostly because I think it would consist of a Very Confused, but Polite Naegi and a Junko who goes around calling Naegi her "bestie".

4. NOTP

I don't ship Junko with anyone so therefore I don't have a NOTP with her too.

5. First headcanon that pops into my head

Junko spent WEEKS deciding what Monokuma looks like and what kind of voice and personality she wanted to give Monokuma. Like, she literally did not sleep for almost an entire week planning what she wanted for Monokuma. All the Monokumas we see in Towa City are either beta concepts she scrapped or ideas she wanted to implement but didn't fit the "school" vibe she wanted. Also in this process I think she sewed a lot of stuffies and thus her (and Mukuro's) room were covered in bear plushies.

6. Favourite line from this character

I think my favourite line from her is from Danganronpa: Another Episode (Ultra Despair Girls), "Oh well. I suppose I'll leave the rest to you. Though, the next time I see you you'll be someone else entirely. I hope the future is one you cannot predict."

I think I like this line because it's directed to Kamukura and the call back to SDR2 (since you play SDR2 before AE, even if in the timeline SDR2 is after) makes me so happy.

7. One way in which I relate to this character

Junko is a twin and so am I. The thought of what she did to Mukuro, while utterly horrific and tragic, is strangely something I can understand as an act to "create despair." Not just for Mukuro who was betrayed but for Junko who did the betraying.

8. Thing that give me second hand embarrassment about this character

In the final trial for DR1 when she's flipping through personas and lands on the really crass one with her tongue sticking out... yeah... I know that her personalities are reflecting the final members of the trial (so this one is for Touko), but yeah... never liked that.

9. Cinnamon roll or Problematic Fave?

I want you to take Problematic Fave, put it at the beginning of the spectrum, then put Junko as FAR AWAY to the other side of the spectrum. That's just how much of a problematic fave she is.

Dating Sting be like: (SFW)

You’re dating one of the most popular Sabertooth members, and now guild master. Expect lots of looks of jealousy from everyone when you go out together.

Because of that, Sting is hyper aware that you’re probably self conscious about it so expect soft pda- nose kisses, forehead kisses, hand grabbing, tight hugs.

He’s shit at cooking, but you’re his princess so he’s going to try. But by try, it means he ropes Minerva and rogue to help him make something worthy of you.

Tell him you love him. Often. Whispering it in his ear or giving him encouragement to do the thing will be the quickest way to get a smile on his face.

He’s secretly a soft boi, but he’s got a reputation to uphold in the guild as it’s master.

He knows you’re incredibly powerful and can handle yourself on jobs, but he’s so protective. If it’s not him going with you, it’ll 100% be Rogue or Yukino. You’ve argued that you’re just as capable but he wouldn’t approve any jobs until you compromised.

Rogue is absolutely your shadow. You hated it at first, feeling like you’re being baby sat by your boyfriends best friend. Until you got to know rogue. Quickly the quiet shadow dragon became your closest friend too. Plus, who can resist Frosch and the cuteness of that bean?

When Sting meets his future s/o -

* When Sting first notices future s/o was during the Grand Magic Games X791. She was on Fairy Tail team A. She was really gorgeous, to which Lector teased him about staring for too long, but Sting of course denied that.

* The next round of matches found this mystery girl paired up with Minerva. Sting settled back into his chair, content to watch Minerva wipe the floor with this girl to help erase her from his mind.

* Imagine Sting and the rest of Sabertooth’s surprise when future s/o unleashes Dragon Force and proceeds to beat Minerva’s spatial magic without breaking a sweat.

* Jaws. To. The. Floor. Sting and Lector couldn’t help but stare as future s/o grinned directly up at the Sabertooth booth. Sting wasn’t sure what to make of it, apart from the fact he was instantly curious about this girl.

* Sting Rogue and the exceeds went for a walk later that evening to escape the wrath that Jiemma was going to unleash on Minerva. They wandered through Crocus just enjoying the weather and sights, when Sting spotted future s/o in a shop, talking with an elderly woman. He pulled his friend into the shop, pretending as if he was suddenly craving a pastry.

* “That’s a really funny way of saying you wanted to talk to her, Sting,” Rogue calls him out on his shit because he finds it hilarious.

* Throughout the rest of the games, Sting tries to find any and every chance to talk to future s/o, or be within five feet of her to try to get a read on her, but she tries to pay him no mind, thinking he was trying to distract her.

* After Fairy Tail wins the games, he corners her during the celebratory party and asks her on a date finally. To which she smiles and says “maybe.”

Part 4: Author and Book

While this might not necessarily be part of the Invisible String tying Natsu and Lucy, it is worth mentioning since I think it’s very convenient for their relationship.

Natsu life essence is found in END’s book. This is due to Zeref Dragneel - the infamous Black Wizard, creator of demons, and Natsu’s older brother - reviving Natsu as the most powerful demon.

Lucy becomes an award winning author at the end of Fairy Tail. Throughout the series, it is mentioned that Lucy is a huge bookworm. (Even the first official mission she has with Natsu involves a book!). She is also depicted writing a story, which is revealed at the end of the series as The Adventures of Iris.

If the connection is not obvious by now, let me point it out. Natsu is a book. Lucy is a writer. She even goes as far as rewriting END to ensure Natsu lives even after the death of Zeref as she sees him as just a normal boy.

I think it’s is absolutely poetic that Lucy loves books and writing and has the opportunity to write Natsu life essentially.

I just wanna talk about how blind I was about my lesbianism. My comphet pals, my shot to you!

1- I used to read a lot NaLu fanfics when I was 14-15 on Wattpad (don't blame me, I was bored and delulu (I still am)).

There were always those being-in-love things description, especially butterflies and I was staring at my screen thinking "wow that's bullshit, I don't feel any of this about my crush." Of course when I first got a conscious crush on a girl, it turns out any of this was bullshit- these butterflies, man-

2- Basically, no one ever explain med to me what romantically loving smb means. So younger me, who had been told multiple by guys how ugly she was, thought thinking often about some mid boy who didn't treat them like crap was love (lmao)

3- I used to pick crushes during elementary school. "Oh, he's pretty, that means I now love him", "Now I'm gonna love him!"

4- I was exagerrating my fictional male """crushes"""(I thought they were cool) because I apparently was hyped enough

5- I thought I couldn't blush about love- For context, I'd almost never turned red outside of when I was lacking air and I'm somehow black (in my one of those light-skin carribean that are in fact mixed with everyone on that earth but mostly africans) since blk ppl don't blush that has my head messed-up.

But in junior year, my friend was making fun of me about the girl I was smitten with and she yelled "OMG you're blusing!". Here was the moment I realized my cheeks had this ability...

6- I didn't get why ppl (men-lover girls) would get crazy over yaoi/bl but def got it about yuri/gl (bfr)

7- At 13, I once asked myself how can gay men not being attracted to women... but never have I ever reversed that question for lesbians

8- I stared at lingeries ads/posters but rolled my eyes and feel sick at any image of man's 6 packs

9- I liked the idea of having boyfriend (I mean by that havung smb in love with) but whenever I tried to picture life together that would stress me out and gimme distgust

10- I never felt anything when I kissed my ex-boyfriend I was apparently in love with but after all this time I still remember the sensations after the first two girls I kissed. I even spent hours with a butterfly in my stomach about one of them even though all my feelings for her were entirely platonic!

11- I first rejected my ex-boyfriend but two days later I had made-up feelings in my head bc as middle-ugly person I was so flattered smb was finally interested in me and didn't to waste my only chance to be in relationship.

Right now, it’s been tough so the things that make me happy are more like goals.

1) I enjoy writing, but haven’t been able to do much in over a year. So, little by little, even if it’s a sentence I push myself to do something. I’m proud of myself for finishing a secret Santa story on time this year!

2) the friends I’ve made online have gotten me though a lot of the tough times, so please know I love you guys a lot! Getting back to you all helps to motivate me to get better 💜 and I’ll try to pop into Discord here and there when up to it. Oh, and I even got to meet two of you irl this August! You know who you are. That’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.

3) related to above is interacting with the fandom. I had to drop out of the nalu blog cause I couldn’t keep up anymore. Giving up sucked, since I’d been doing it since fall of 2018, but it wasn’t fair to everyone else to let it flounder. Seeing it continue makes me really happy.

4) my irl bestie of 27+ years has been living with me for a couple years while their family home is rebuilt after a fire. It’s made me undeniably happy to be able to help her, and her helping me through all the shit I’ve been dealing with. I’m blessed to have such an amazing friend. I’d lost tough with most of our old friends from hs, but this has motivated me to rekindle the relationships.

5) lastly, imma be selfish and say myself cause I’m proud I didn’t give up. 20 years ago this strife might’ve led to suicide, so that means I have gotten stronger. Looks like I just have more information I can stick in a story 🙃lol. Making myself happy is a big motivator.

Even with help, surviving whatever happens to you is ultimately due to your own efforts of not giving up, so Always remember to pat yourselves on the back!

I’ll explain why I’ve been MIA from here for so long below.

From spring 2019 to august 2021 so much crap happened with my family. My uncles cancer/death revealed an explosive skeleton in the family closet that left my grandma homeless in November 2019. Neither her surviving kids would take her for selfish reasons so she lived with me. She was doing so well!… but In September 2020 her daughter finally took her, stuck her in a room sending her health plummeting and she died by the following April 2021. The final straw was my mom dying from Covid in august 2021 because my trumpster half-siblings who didn’t believe in Covid brought it home. They’re now all dead to me. I’ve also been having a lot of medical problems on top of this so, in September 2021 I just… cracked… Three psychiatrists, two anti-depressants, one antipsychotic, and two therapists later I’ve finally found a good therapeutic fit. Psychotherapy is tough but I really like it and I think I’ve started the road to recovery. I highly recommend this form of therapy when you need to fully break free from past traumas.

hey uhhhh im door. when i was 15 i spent like a whole year obsessed with fairy tail. if i charge my old ipod touch i'll even find old ft fics i used to write in there lmao. i stopped reading after/during the tartaros arc because of real life issues and then time passed. fast forward to december 2023 somehow this passion was ignited again when i saw nalu art on twitter and i got hit with the overwhelming need to read fairy tail again.

so that's what i've been doing.

currently on: volume 20, finishing the oración seis arc. (ill update this)

idk i know nobody realistically cares but i created this side blog kind of on a whim so i can reblog stuff like crazy and maybe post stuff of my own since there's a LOT of plot points i did not remember. it's been really fun relearning fairy tail again :) i definitely remember why i had so much fun with it as a kid. i feel lucky.

anyway. i ship everything under the sun. kid-me loved the big 4 (especially jerza) and i still do, but i honestly love everything lmao. been trying to find poly team natsu content but its been hard. i feel like there's a lot of potential there. i just really like the thought of everyone in the team being kind of in love with lucy a little bit. (im obviously excluding wendy here.)

my favorite character is erza but lucy natsu gray and juvia come real close. im trying to acclimate myself to drawing the gang again but im really slow when drawing, so.

ANYWAY ill stop rambling. thank you for your time. i hope to stick around (lord knows how many side blogs ive created for different hyperfixations).

Dragon Swan Song

It’s been a very long time since I wrote a drabble on Tumblr for NaLu. But I have had an itch lately to write something for them, because I haven’t written anything passionately in a very long time, and what could be more fun to jump back into writing than to write about my OTP?

I hope you all enjoy this short NaLu drabble where Natsu is a knight assigned to protect the princess, Lucy!

The skirt of my dress flowed freely around my ankles as I paced back and forth from the end of my bed to the chamber doors. A feeling of impending dread was steadily building in my stomach and each time I stopped to take a breath the anxious knots only seemed to pull tighter. The late morning sunlight streaming in from the balcony created patches of heat on the cool stone floor. While the warmth on my skin brought brief comfort, my thoughts were still troubled and they swirled in my head, going ‘round and around, making me dizzy. My pacing stopped only when I heard a low rapping on the doors behind me.

“Excuse me, Princess. I’m coming in,” a husky voice called.

I swiveled around and straightened my back, and hastily tucked a couple loose strands of hair - which had fallen over my face - behind my ear. After clasping my hands together with a firm grip, I answered, “C-come in!” There was a momentary pause before the doors opened and a familiar mess of pink hair peaked into view.

Natsu, I thought with a soft sigh. I could already feel my worries sliding off from my shoulders. As he stepped into the room, I could see his firm build. He stood almost a foot taller than me and his skin was tanned from spending long days training in the sun.

“Princess Lucy, is everything alright?” He asked. “I could hear your footsteps from the other side of the doors. Is there something on your mind?” His voice was deep and sincere, but the formality of his speech felt strange.

“Y-yes! Everything is fine, really. No need to worry. I’m just overthinking some plans that my father had proposed to me this past evening.” I did my best to brush his concern away with a smile and a curt wave of my hand, but the crease between his eyebrows remained and his lips did not move from the slight frown they were set in.

“Hmm,” he hummed aloud. “Well, though I believe you’re telling me the truth, I cannot take your words at mere face value.”

“Huh?” I questioned.

“You don’t look like you’re in full health, Princess. So I will do my own inspection to make sure you are feeling well,” he said in a raised voice while peering down the long hallway. I waited with anticipation as Natsu quietly shut the wooden doors. He paused, and I watched his shoulders rise and fall as he slowly breathed in and out. When he turned around and looked at me I could see the glimmer of mischief dancing in his onyx eyes.

“Natsu,” I said. “What are you doing? It’s the middle of the day. We could be caught!”

He smirked, briefly flashing his sharp canines. A jolt rippled down my spine and my heart beat faster in my chest.

“We’ll be fine, Luce,” he said. Natsu took a couple steps closer to me. He had a confident air about him. “Anyone who was around thinks I’m simply checking on the princess to make sure she’s feeling well. Nothing wrong with that, right?” He raised his eyebrows and the devilish flare grew in his eyes. My knees wobbled underneath the intensity of his stare. As he entered further into the room, the sunlight illuminated the details of his face. I couldn’t help myself from studying him.

The old scar that ran down his right cheek stopped at his jawline, and another stretched across the right side of his neck. The rough skin healed a bit darker than his normal shade, which only made them appear more prominent. His cheeks were dusted a soft rose giving him a healthy and youthful likeness. Light freckles speckled the bridge of his nose and under his eyes, but if you weren’t looking close enough you wouldn’t think he had any at all. There was a bit of dirt on his forehead and his hair was in mild disarray, so he had probably been training in the courtyard or tending to the horses in the stables earlier. My eyes continued to scan over his face. I didn’t want to miss a thing.

“Like what you see?”

“Huh?!” Startled, my concentration broke and our eyes locked.

Natsu chuckled and closed the little distance that was left between us. His smile was warm. “You’re cute when you get lost in thought,” he muttered bringing his right hand to rest on my cheek. It was as if there was fire in his fingertips. His touch was gentle, but every one set my skin ablaze. I could feel the rough callouses on his palm that had formed from years of hard work wielding his sword and perfecting his skills.

“Don’t tease me like that,” I pouted. My hair fell loose around my shoulders as I turned my head to the side.

“Aw, come on, Luce. I was being serious,” he whined, but the slight twitch at the corners of his mouth gave away his amusement. A gasp escaped my lips as I felt two strong arms circle around my waist and pull me forward. Our bodies pressed together and the palms of my hands rested on his chest. All I could think about was how firm and strong it felt.

“Natsu th-this is embarrassi-!”

“You really are beautiful, Princess,” he murmured. His voice was low and tender and every word sounded so sincere. I really admired that about him. Though sometimes he could be honest to a fault, it was just another one of his many charms.

He used his hand that was on my cheek to brush the hair from my face and place it back behind my ear. “There they are,” he said. “Hey, Doe Eyes.” A quiet chuckle rumbled in his throat.

“Hi,” I whispered almost breathless. Natsu smelled like warm linen and earth, with a hint of something sweet, like honey or vanilla. I wished that I could bottle that scent so I could revisit it whenever, but did my best to focus so I could at least commit it to memory. His dark eyes held me as a willing captive and I couldn’t tear myself away. As frustrating as his teasing could be at times, I was never more at ease than when I was enveloped in his embrace. Whenever it seemed like everything was turning upside down and I felt as if I could float away at any given moment, I could always count on him to tether me and bring me safely back to solid ground.

His face relaxed as he scanned over me. “Now,” Natsu said clearing his throat. “Are you gonna tell me why you were pacing so much? Your footsteps were so loud, I bet everyone in the castle thought an ogre was stomping around in here.” Natsu’s eyebrows lifted and his lips puckered ever-so slightly. I could tell he was holding in laughter.

“How dare you!” I huffed and pushed against his chest so that he would relinquish his hold on me. “And just when I thought you were being genuinely sweet for once.” I crossed my arms over my chest and marched onto the balcony.

There was a cool spring breeze and the sky was bright blue with thin white clouds floating lazily overhead. I positioned myself so that my arms rested against the thick metal railing that overlooked the castle garden. All of the flowers were in full bloom and their many scents mixed in a harmonious melody which filled the air and swirled around me. I took a deep breath in to fully appreciate the wonderful aroma. As my muscles began to relax the sound of heavy boots came closer to my turned back.

Natsu stood quietly beside me with his back leaned against the railing. He craned his neck to the side and looked across the castle grounds. “You always did enjoy the garden, didn’t you?” He asked, although it seemed like it was more of a statement to himself. “Even when we were kids, if you were ever upset you’d always go someplace where you could see the flowers.”

I glanced at him from the side. “Of course I like the garden,” I sighed. “The flowers are pretty, it’s always quiet, and I can lose myself walking around in it. I can pretend like I don’t have a care in the world—like I can do whatever I want—be whoever I want—love whoever I-” I stopped myself and turned to look at Natsu. He was smiling at me, but it was small and there was sadness underneath. Natsu shifted his eyes away from me and turned around so that he faced the garden. His broad shoulders slumped forward and his weight pressed down on his forearms that he’d rested on the railing.

“Do you remember that day?” He asked. “When we met?” I ran my eyes over his face, trying to discern what he might be thinking. “You were picking daisies in the far corner of the garden to make a makeshift crown, and I was running from Makorov ‘cuz I accidentally tore a hole right through his trousers with my sword.”

“As I recall, you caused that tear because you were sparring with Gray again over who was going to get to eat the last slice of Miss Mira’s strawberry shortcake that she’d baked earlier that day,” I mocked. “But then Erza knocked your heads together, claimed it for herself, and ate it right in front of you! So neither you nor Gray got any cake and you were both punished for fighting—no sweets for a whole month!” I raised my hand to cover my mouth as I laughed.

“Y-yeah… Erza’s scary,” Natsu muttered.

I stood with my hands on my hips and gave a disapproving stare. “I haven’t forgotten how you ran straight into me and crushed all of my daisies before I could make that crown, by the way,” I said. “And you caused me to fall face first into the dirt and ruin the new dress Father had gotten for me, too,” I huffed. Natsu grimaced and rubbed the back of his head, ruffling his hair.

“Uh, yeah, sorry,” he said. “I remember getting an earful about that too.”

I scoffed in mild amusement. “It’s fine. To be quite honest, Father always ordered the most stuffy dresses back then, anyway, and the one you ruined was particularly stifling to wear,” I said. “Especially when I was out in the garden.”

“Well, I wish you had said something back then before Erza chewed me out for that in between mouthfuls of cake,” Natsu laughed.

“Why would I when it’s so amusing to see how you and Gray shake like puppies when she scolds you?” He pretended to pout at my taunting which only made me laugh more. “Miss Erza’s not so terrible, you know,” I said gaining my composure.

“You only think that because you’ve never had to fight her. After one training session I can barely move for days whenever she’s put in charge of combat practice. She’s merciless!” He whined.

I giggled and Natsu turned his head so he could look at me. His eyes were serious when they met mine. Something about his steady gaze threw my stomach for a whirl. “W-what is it?” I asked.

Natsu shifted his weight and stood tall. His stature blocked the sun and cast a shadow over me. To someone else, he might seem scary using his full height to his advantage like this. But to me, he was no more threatening than a dragonfly.

“Lucy,” he said. His voice came off stern but his eyes were almost pleading. “Tell me why you’ve been so stressed lately. I won’t continue to pretend like I haven’t noticed.” Natsu took my hand in his. I could feel his thumb tracing gentle circles over the tops of my fingers. Unlike before, he kept a respectable distance between us and was careful to hide our clasped hands behind the railing.

We couldn’t risk the groundskeepers or any other castle attendant seeing us, and the balcony was a very public spot. Any affectionate display witnessed by the wrong person was sure to circulate through the castle grapevine, and there would surely be repercussions to face. I knew this, of course, but I still felt my heart longing.
