In many places, including the US, a psychiatrist or a therapist is not going to diagnose you with autism unless they are attached to an autism clinic and have specialty training - though legally they can.

Usually diagnosis is left to a developmental psychologist or a clinical psychologist that has training in administering standardized tests, performing tests that require subjective interpretation, observational evaluation and interviews, and finally, putting all those elements together to get an accurate picture of a person.
