【2023 LAST】 I Wanted the Final Video to be a Conversation

Hello, this is Hikaru. Thank you for watching! This time, as this is the last video of 2023, I wanted to feel connected with everyone so I asked you submit questions and messages on Instagram. This is a video that answers your questions! Once again, it is a laid-back and casual video 🍀 I've answered all the questions except those that I can't answer on my own! What do you do to take care of your throat and vocal health? She always carries lozenges with her and uses a face mask all-year round

Do you take voice training lessons? From time to time, yes. But those lessons are extremely expensive so she can't afford them too often

Please share an episode with Keiko that left a lasting impression! Hikaru gets asked this question a couple of times but she doesn't really come up with any specific story or anecdote. She does however say that being able to perform together again has been really special this year. She also emphasises how Keiko is like a sister to her, a precious senpai/nakama she looks up to.

Any tips on how to distinguish Hikaru's voice from the other two in Kalafina songs with harmony? Hikaru can't really give any advice because for her, her own voice is obviously most noticeable. She asks all fans who listen to a lot of Kalafina to provide some suggestions in the comment section. [LOL, I am surprised there are still so many people who struggle with this]

Any fan messages that have left a lasting impression? Hikaru makes sure to read every letter, message and comment. They all mean a lot to her. But sometimes someone will tell her something along the lines of Hikaru's music having changed their life and of course Hikaru can't help but be incredibly moved by a sentiment like that.

Something she always pays attention to when singing? Never neglect your emotions, they should always shine through.

Are you in love right now? Hikaru obviously thinks that's a decidedly private question but kudos to her for even including it in the video. She wonders if anyone else aside from the person who sent the question would actually want to know about this. In her mind, the person is probably in the minority so she tells people to leave a comment if they really want to know about her love life. Also, she feels like no matter how she answers that question, people would start worrying about her and she would rather not have that happen.

How to take care of your physical health? Exercise to some extent, stick to a balanced diet with lots of protein, do a lot of strength training to build muscle.

Any overseas food that left a lasting impression? Not particularly but she enjoys trying local items at Starbucks or McDonald's whenever she is in another country

What's your ideal type? What stuff did you fight about in previous relationships? Another question about her love life but since it's not really about her current relationship status she tries to answer some of it. Her ideal type is someone who truly values their family and takes care of them. As for fights, Hikaru is a bit vague here on whether this refers to actual past romantic relationships or just all relationships in general but basically, she is not the type to have emotional outbursts or anything so she doesn't really "fight" with people. It depends on someone's definition of a fight though. For her that's everything that can't be resolved through a civil discussion and she personally never lets it get that far.

Will Hikaru do any anisong covers on her YouTube channel? Hikaru struggles with rights and licenses so it's hard to find songs she can sing on her channel but if she does, she will give it a try

What is your ambition for next year? Hold a solo live in a bigger venue.

What are your thoughts on Kalafina's current situation? Wakana, Keiko and herself are all pursuing a solo career so she would be happy if everyone listened to their music and continued to support them [very neutral but precious answer]

I love Keiko! What should I do? Hikaru is a bit baffled that she would get a question like that. She then goes off on a tangent about the difference between "ai" and "koi". The person asking the question is using the word "ai" to describe their love for Keiko but in Hikaru's opinion, "ai" is probably not the correct term here because if you are worrying about what the other person thinks of you and wonder how you should act, it's more likely a case of "koi" instead of "ai" (with "koi" being more frequently used for romantic love whereas "ai" usually refers to a more general concept of love). As for what that person should do, they should definitely support Keiko's activities.

Please share an interesting anecdote from Kaji.Fes? She thought it was special that she got the chance to change her outfit for the final song (into the world) even though ever performer was supposed to only have one outfit. Then, at the after party she was fortunate enough to be seated close to Yuki Kajiura on her table which is how she ended up drinking a bit of alcohol even though she never ever drinks. That was a fun experiences.

Will you be eating mucchan manju in Fukuoka? [This is a local snack in Fukuoka, Wakana has been doing a lot of promotion for it, it's that thingy she eat in Kalafina's 10th Anniversary Live] Hikaru hopes she has time to eat it

In my head there is a story, characters and everything.

So the main character, Seana or Sean who owns a clothing store which she runs with her friend even though people give her anxiety so. She is rich and went to college for business and acting. She has a online store that is successful along with a YouTube of her own (they all do, except Peter) which she uses as a diary, a safeplace for her talk, just a place to upload video no matter what it is may it be a tutorial or her babysitting.

She grew up in a Victoria Era manor just because her father loves living in old style manors which Seana is also following in. The manor is haunted. There are three (maybe more maybe just two I don't remember) mounted heads on the walls all threw the manor all from before Seana's family moved (all haunted but one more then any other, a moose in the library over a fireplace (I know very original, Katie) and a elk head in the hall towards the laundry. Haunted by the elk man who is a dream ghost who will stalk you in dreams or just locks you in a dream loop which is you wake up, do things through the day then surprise Elk man appears. You wake up and cycle repeats (pretty sure just made to symbolizes my fear of heads like that). Everyone but Sean's dad is terrified by the elk man but dad isn't afraid of nothing his a big strong Irish men (oh yeah, Sean's mom is northern Irish (don't know from where if I even put it dad is from other repuplic of ireland (it was supposed to be the same area Jack grew up in so there's like a conection) nothing scares him the manor is huge but only the main half has power and heat where the part that isn't is freezing all the time no matter the time of year. There is a basement that all is afraid of the nightmare crew (Sean and her friends) is terrified of but dad makes Irish whiskey down there (he's the only one who drinks it). Sean has an office/ sewing room which they turned a room next to it into a room for rolls of fabric that is linked to the office by a closet door. She also has filing cabinets that holds all you need for making clothes. This room (along with her room) is decorated with framed fan art. Sean's parents treat her friends like their own kids and when they're aren't in a safe home allows them too stay with them and try to get them help even so some of the crew died due to mental health problems which gave Sean depression because she always feels like it's her fault and her friends are like her family even though it's Peter who brought them together or they fight among themselves the care about each other.

She has a three legged cat named Gloom or Gloom doom. he is an ass to some people. He hates kittens even though they're most his. He loves cuddles and is terrified of Sean's dad and hides when he's around.

Sean has a sister and a brother named Sue and Bill (twins) and her twin brother/ best friend Peter who were separated from her at birth to save money but due to his dad being s lawyer he makes everyone sign contracts and treats what is written in the contracts as law! He's the camera man and editor for the nightmare crew even though he is perfectionist but he makes YouTube videos look like movies (when they need to , when they goofing around they look normal but they do performs videos with green screens, scripts, costumes all of it) also he's the tallest out of all the nightmare crew also is a faceless YouTuber (technology) and is terrified to face reveal but when he is in videos he wears a cloak or hoodie to hide his face.

They all have nicknames relating to spooky along with something associated with them like Sean is Stiches because she makes clothes)

They all have " birthdays" (more like it's the characters they made for themselves's birthdays) all threw October exsept for Sean and Peter's whose birthday is the eve of Halloween.

So basically it was supposed to be those stories where Antisepticeye haunts them/Sean was supposed to have his child because my brain messed up and is obsessed about having babies even though I don't want one. So my mind changed it so they there is this company wanting to make this place where you can basically become your favorite video game character and they want to test with minecraft (the nightmare crew has a minecraft on the channel so to the organization it counts) where Sean meets Dream and Sapnap and she's really shy and anxious because they're in a new area and new people even thought she wants to be there but Dream helps her meet people that is where Dream and his friends. Sean, Peter and his wife, Missy moved to the UK into a manor then they making videos with Sean's British girlfriend, Ella and best friend, Izzy takes the role of George and Sapnap and Sean is Dream.

Yup, this is the never ending story in my head summarize... pretty sure I missed so details but eh. I'm tired but can't fall asleep so here I am

By keeping a tray full of no prepare necessary food, in the fridge it can be used to aid neurodivergent or fatigued people.

By putting food like, cheese and crackers, or whatever is a safe food for you personally on the tray, it can be taken easily to the couch or bed to be eaten from whenever you are hungry.

This prevents executive dysfunction or fatigue and any reason preventing you from eating. You need to care of yourself because everyone needs food to stay alive including you.

You deserve to eat even when on a bad brain day and are unable to prepare a meal for yourself.

If not having a full meal doesn't satisfy you, a snack may even give you the energy to make a full meal afterwards!

This book is about a little girl who wants to become a doctor and wants to go to school.

Sadly her family has to do endless chores and it’s hard for her to earn enough money for school.

Can she stick to her dreams even with all the challenges Serafina faces? Even an earthquake?

This book is written by Ann E. Burg and is written in verse. I loved it a lot because it

gives a nice message which is to stick to your dreams

no matter what happens.

Also the story is place in a place called Haiti , it is in the Caribbean.

It is the third largest country in the Caribbean

Some more interesting tidbits:

Keiko has been active in the entertainment business for 18 years. Time really flies.

The tracklist matches different sceneries of daily life in a more or less chronological order

Yutaka Ozaki and Koji Tamaki inspired her to become an artist. Yuki Kajiura was the one who cultivated her voice and musical life.

Keiko says it feels very natural to her to be a part of someone else’s work rather than create her own work. That is why she has always felt at home with Yuki Kajiura and Kalafina. She was allowed to immerse herself in someone else’s world and bring that to life. The moment she left the safe confines of Kalafina, she became very anxious and didn’t really know what to do or what to offer as a singer. Making the 3rd album felt quite rewarding and was a lot of fun because she didn’t have to focus on lyrics or composing - which she did for her 1st and 2nd album. She just entered the world of various composers, playing different characters and expressing a variety of world views.

“Watashi Update” has a complicated rhythm with many words and way too much information so it’s important to absorb the lyrics to keep up with the fast pace.

For “Alcohol” she chose a very sloppy singing style because otherwise her voice would have gotten in the way of the song.

Fly, Black Swan is very “out there” and invites quite a lot of different interpretations. Keiko says it’s like a painting and maybe you shouldn’t try to look too closely and judge any of the details. Just experience it and allow it to take effect on your senses. According to Keiko the song is very similar to Yuki Kajiura’s music with its many imaginative margins. That’s why the vocal range and singing style somewhat resembles her work during the Kalafina era.

The stories in “KIRAI.” and “Yura Yura” resonate most with Keiko’s true self. Occasionally she might also feel like the protagonist of “Hitori Janai Kara”.

As someone who has worked in the entertainment business her entire life, it was actually quite interesting and refreshing for her to sing about everyday life of people with "ordinary” jobs.

“KIRAI.” is about a girl who is determined to find a perfect match and thus becomes very calculating. She is someone who looks for the best possible partner and is very honest about her demands. Keiko is very impressed by this sort of woman who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to tell others about it. She also likes the woman depicted in “Alcohol” because she is incredibly strong but when she decides to get drunk, she will show a little weakness

Keiko compared “Yura Yura” to a Makoto Shinkai movie. There’s a strong sense of nostalgia. There’s a pure and fizzy atmosphere to the song, Keiko wanted it to be like a safe bubble.

“Your” was very difficult to record, it took a lot of takes.

Keiko made it a point to not “oversing” in this album. She refrained from getting too involved in the singing itself and instead focused on things like rhythm. That was important with the type of fast-paced tracks she chose to sing.

Types of AO3 Summary

Option 1 - The Excerpt:

The quickest, the easiest! Find a section of your fic that contains the main premise of said fic and also showcases your writing. Copy paste that into the summary box. BOOM! Done.

Best used for any fic, unless it's so short the excerpt would be the whole fic.

Option 2 - The No Frills:

Just a description of the fic. No need for drama. No need to complicate matters. Keep it simple, keep it safe.

Example: "A short character exploration of Blorbo's thoughts after Daisy leaves."

Best used for short fics, poems and fics where the style/format is more important than the plot. Or fics that tie directly into a scene/episode from canon or another fanfic.

Option 3 - The Hook:

Draw the reader's interest by giving them a set up with no conclusion. Introduce the main character(s), introduce the status quo, describe an inciting incident, leave a question in the reader's mind.

Example: "Blorbo is a barista at a coffee shop, struggling to pay their bills, but after handsome rockstar Obrolb walks into their coffee shop they find that they have to decide whether a chance at love is worth the cost of fame."

Best used for mid to long fic where there's a strong premise and follow through. Especially good for AUs. Can be expanded for more complex plots or used multiple times in one summary for multiple characters or subplots.

Option 4 - The Sitcom One-Liner:

"The one in which [over simplified description of one of the main plotlines]" This is essentially 'boil your plot down to the very simplest statement you can, oversimplify if possible. The more bizarre or unhelpful the better.

Example: "The one in which Blorbo learns to like cake".

Best used for fics with at least a little humour in them.

Option 5 - The Rule of Three:

Three is a magic number. Find three key moments in your fic and just list them. That's it. Often ends with 'not necessarily in that order' if used for comic effect. If it's an AU, establish that quickly (i.e. 'Star NHL player Blorbo…').

Example: "Blorbo makes a friend, falls in love, and almost burns to death, not necessarily in that order."

Best used for anything, really. Three is a magic number. The human brain loves things that come in threes.

Option 6 - The Trope Lure:

Why bother describing the plot? We all know AO3 readers are here for the tropes. Similar to The Sitcom One-Liner just using tropes instead of plot. Often followed by the phrase 'that nobody asked for'.

Example: "The Space western / A/B/O / Mail Order Bride fic that nobody asked for."

Often tacked on to the end of The Hook or The Excerpt as a tl;dr.

Best used for fic that plays its tropes straight with no shame or second guessing.

Option 7 - The Pre-emptive Strike:

(Not recommended) You just wrote this fic, the self doubt is consuming you. You feel the need to apologise profusely for your existence for no apparently reason. You feel cringe, you think the fic is cringe, you want everyone to know that you think the fic is cringe in case they don't like it and judge you for it.

Example: "So I fell in love with this pairing and had to write this. It's weird and terrible. Lol! I suck at summaries! Sorry!"

Best used for no fics ever. I cannot stress this enough.

(Seriously, I am begging you, don't do this. If you're planning to use this option, rethink it and do one of the others. I guarantee you more people will want to read your fic.)

Sometimes added on to any other summary as a strange disclaimer. (srsly. don't.)

Option 8 - The Unapology:

Embrace the mayhem, embrace the deep dark depths of your soul. The opposite of The Pre-emptive Strike. A combination of The No Frills and The Trope Lure that truly gives no fucks.

You have committed crimes and you are proud of them. You know what your USP is and you're going to make sure your target market finds you. Look upon my works, ye readers, and despair!

Example: "There aren't enough tentacle fics in this pairing, so I had to write one myself!"

Best used for fics with controversial/polarising tropes with all relevant details already clearly stated in the tags.

Option 9 - The Interrogation:

What if you wrote a summary entirely in questions? What if your readers had to read the fic to discover the answers? Who knows what will happen if you do this?

Example: "What happens when Blorbo McBlorbo gets his wish and Daisy doesn't make it to the plane on time? What happens when Obrolb finds out? How will this change Daisy and Blorbo's friendship?"

Best used for... I honestly don't know. This style of summary does not vibe with me. Mystery fic maybe? Sorry guys.

Option 10 - The Multipack:

Got a bunch of shorter fics in one work? No way of summarising them all without a wall of text larger than the Great Wall of China? This one is similar to The No Frills in that you're not describing the plots themselves and similar to The Trope Lure in that often broader genres and tropes are mentioned. What links those fics? Are they all in the same fandom? The same pairing? The same challenge? Just slap that right in the summary. A chapter list with 1-2 word trope/pairing summaries can be included or not.

Example: "A collection of Blorbo/Daisy/Obrolb fics based on Tumblr prompts. Chapter 1: Regency AU Chapter 2: Werewolves vs vampires Chapter 3: Ghost!Daisy Chapter 4: Space pirates!"

Best used for (obviously) works that are compilations of fic.

Option ? - The Void:

I said The Excerpt was the quickest and easiest summary to do. I lied, well... I didn't exactly lie. What is quicker and easier than not having a summary at all? After all, that's what the tags are for.

Example:

Best used for... nothing? Write a summary, guys. Please?
